- 0:10Brad picked up the chemical set and put it in
- 0:14the middle of the table to hide the spot that
- 0:16he burned. Time was around 6 p .m. and Brad just
- 0:22wanted to go home. He left when he felt the lab
- 0:28was presentable and the alcoholic professor would
- 0:31not know the difference. Brad went home on the
- 0:34hopes of seeing and spending time with his mother
- 0:37and his younger sister, but he knew deep down
- 0:41in his heart he would not spend time with them.
- 0:45Not to his surprise, the house was totally empty
- 0:48when he arrived home. His mother spends most
- 0:52of her time with her new boyfriend, and she usually
- 0:56sends Brad's sister down the street with the
- 0:59neighbors. Brad found a bottle of Cranberry Al
- 1:04in the refrigerator that his mother bought for
- 1:07Christmas Day, and he drank half the bottle within
- 1:11an hour. He drank that fought off depression
- 1:16from being alone once again. In the meantime,
- 1:21Theo started to feel bad because of the way he
- 1:24ignored Brad. Theo checked his messages and heard
- 1:27Brad asking him to come to the lab and help clean
- 1:30up. Theo's aunt, uncle, and his girlfriend was
- 1:37due to be at his mom's house at 7 .30 p .m. for
- 1:40Christmas Eve get together. Theo headed out to
- 1:44the lab around 6 .30 to help Brad clean up. He
- 1:48knew that he was going to be late for the family
- 1:51Christmas Eve get together. but he did not want
- 1:55Brad to feel too mad at him. Theo arrived at
- 2:00their lab and hollered out for Brad as he walked
- 2:03back to the back. As he walked past the table,
- 2:15he slipped on a piece of paper. As he fell, the
- 2:22green and blue vial fell off the table onto his
- 2:24nose and mouth. At first, he had no idea what
- 2:29this was because it had a sweet taste. A few
- 2:34seconds later, it started to burn his nose and
- 2:36mouth. He grabbed a vial that contained clear
- 2:40liquid that he thought was water and drank it.
- 2:48This liquid caused him to vomit because it contained
- 2:51some roots from the afganiva plant. His nose
- 2:57and mouth were still burning and he was going
- 2:59crazy. As he ran across the street, he was putting
- 3:07snow in his mouth and nose. He ran up to a neighbor's
- 3:12door. screaming while banging on the door and
- 3:35the neighborhood watch couple peeked out of the
- 3:38window to see a black boy standing on the porch
- 3:40with his tongue hanging out covered in hair other
- 3:46neighbors were starting to peek out of the window
- 3:49and lock the doors dogs start barking cats start
- 3:53running and screeching boys doing in their suburban
- 4:04neighborhood a dark they wondered they did not
- 4:10know he had been living on Sweet Street for the
- 4:13past three years. Sweet Street was a couple of
- 4:19streets over from the house. Theo was just never
- 4:24seen because his family did a lot of things together
- 4:27around the house. His house had a large gated
- 4:31lot, swimming pool, tennis court and a home theater
- 4:35in the basement. Theo's house was at the top
- 4:39of the street so his family never had to go past
- 4:42the neighbor's street to get where they were
- 4:44going. The neighborhood couple only came out
- 4:48of the house to go to the doctor's office or
- 4:51to go to the monthly neighborhood watch sessions.
- 4:55H -O -A. You know how those are. Murder. This
- 5:06neighborhood was so quiet that the local police
- 5:09hardly had serious crime. Most of the calls they
- 5:13would get would be for idiotic reasons. Gladys
- 5:17called the police as soon as she saw a black
- 5:19boy on their porch. This couple was raised in
- 5:23a dirty South where the KKK and white supremacist
- 5:28group lived and practiced hatred against other
- 5:33races. Older people and their own parents raised
- 5:38them to believe that people of color were always
- 5:41up to no good. The policemen took their time
- 5:45going to the crime scene because they were too
- 5:48busy drinking and strip pub downtown and they
- 5:51figured It's just a nosy neighborhood couple
- 5:54calling for something minor. One time, they called
- 6:00when their neighbor's dog pooped on their freshly
- 6:07manicured lawn. Another time, they called was
- 6:12when the neighbor who lives on the right side
- 6:14of their house, showered some snow in their driveway.
- 6:18On accident, these kinds of time -wasting calls
- 6:22justified the officers taking their time responding
- 6:26to the call. During this long wait, Theo's situation
- 6:31became worse. He started to itch all over his
- 6:35body and hides were popping up under his nail
- 6:41bed. He started to scream, a high -pitched scream.
- 6:50The neighbors started to hold their ears. More
- 6:52neighbors began peeking out of their windows
- 6:54and coming outside to see what was going on.
- 6:57Angie lived down the street and she came out
- 7:03to see that Theo was in pain. She figured he
- 7:13must have gone to the lab and some chemicals
- 7:16spilled on his body. She did not feel much love
- 7:31for Theo because he would always be lit on her
- 7:35in front of Brad for no reason. But she felt
- 7:38sorry for him because no one else was trying
- 7:41to help. Angie started calling out for Theo to
- 7:45come with her to her house. Theo! Theo! But not
- 7:57covering him due to his constant crying out from
- 8:00his pain. away from that monkey. The neighbor
- 8:08shouted at her. Gladys, the wife of the nosy
- 8:12couple, shouted at the neighbors that they called
- 8:15the police a while ago, and they still were not
- 8:20there. The most prejudiced neighbor on the street
- 8:28asked her did they give the police the required
- 8:31information that would make this situation our
- 8:34priority. Gladys said, I will call back again
- 8:39and do that. One again. Police dispatch trying
- 9:02to help you. I caught earlier, imported a man
- 9:07on my porch, and no one has showed up yet. This
- 9:12is a Negro on my porch. The dispatcher ran the
- 9:17call through for the second time. This time,
- 9:29she told the police they have a NOC emergency.
- 9:40NOC means Negro Out of Control. This same code
- 9:47is used for every interzine we walk. involving
- 9:50a black person in this neighborhood. Do you know
- 9:54these same two policemen who ignored the car
- 9:57earlier left this strip club as soon as they
- 10:01heard the code word NOC? They were dying to kill
- 10:06a black person and this made it even sweeter
- 10:08because this was happening in a well -to -do
- 10:11area. They arrived at the scene in less than
- 10:18five minutes and this time they immediately withdrew
- 10:21their guns as soon as they got out of the car.
- 10:37Due to the high -pitched screaming coming from
- 10:43Theo, no one could hear what was coming out of
- 10:48the bullhorn. By this time, Angie was on a porch
- 10:52with Theo trying to calm him down. Theo could
- 10:55not recognize Angie because of the brown glaze
- 10:59over his eyes and her voice was not familiar
- 11:02to him. Theo thought she was one of the cops
- 11:05with the gun. So he started throwing his arms
- 11:08at her. You know, like a girl would fight most
- 11:12of the time. She kept backing up saying, Don't
- 11:16Theo, it's me Angie. Steve was shouting at the
- 11:21cops to kill him before he kills one of their
- 11:24people. The cops told Steve to back up and stay
- 11:29out of the way. The cops did not see a weapon
- 11:37on Theo, but they wanted to get rid of him in
- 11:40a bad way. They were trying to think of different
- 11:43scenarios they could use to justify killing an
- 11:47unarmed black man. After thinking of several
- 11:52ideas, they agreed on one. This is a last warning.
- 11:59Get down on the ground. A shot rang out, and
- 12:08several more followed. At the same time, Angie
- 12:14screamed, still close to the ground. Glass and
- 12:17her husband's house were filled with bullet holes.
- 12:22By this time, The policemen were at the door.
- 12:26Everyone in the house already took cover and
- 12:33went into a black room. Some policemen shouted,
- 12:44Hold your fire! Hold your fire! They were not
- 12:51the ones who just charged their guns. Some people
- 12:56thought that the nosy couple were the shooters.
- 13:03And a few policemen were on the verge of shooting
- 13:05back. Everyone outside started to look around
- 13:09to see he was doing the shooting. While everyone
- 13:11was looking around and having a brief conversation
- 13:14about what just happened, Theo got up and ran,
- 13:21leaving Angie on the porch. The man started shooting
- 13:28at Theo again, but they were a little too late.
- 13:39Theo ran like a brown cheetah off into the woods.
- 13:43The policeman told Angie that she did not have
- 13:46to take cover any longer and to get off of the
- 13:48ground. He also told her, that she needed to
- 13:52be checked for injuries. She did not respond
- 13:55or get up. They figured that she was stricken
- 13:59with panic and that's why she was frozen scared.
- 14:03Skyler's husband went over to help Angie stand
- 14:06up. As soon as he bent down, he noticed blood
- 14:08coming from her head. He shook her, but she did
- 14:13not move. He turned her over and it looked like
- 14:16her head had a big hole in it from a shotgun.
- 14:20He screamed, Someone killed the girl! After a
- 14:30few minutes, there was complete silence. It was
- 14:34so silent that you couldn't hear the lights because
- 14:36of the snow blowing and everyone breathing in
- 14:40the cool air. Everyone started looking around
- 14:53slowly at one another to see if they could figure
- 14:55out who the person was with the gun. One of the
- 15:00policemen radioed dispatch to get an ambulance
- 15:03to the scene. One of the EMTs that arrived Was
- 15:12on a job for 23 years and never saw anything
- 15:15like what he saw on this night He started to
- 15:19shake and mumble something that no one could
- 15:21understand Why this gray foam start to come out
- 15:29of his mouth and he ran from the porch back to
- 15:33his ambulance vehicle He was not able to care
- 15:36for the patient. So he told a rookie that was
- 15:40right on him to take care of her Patsy was the
- 15:44only on the job for five months and can handle
- 15:48just about anything. When Patsy stepped on the
- 15:53porch and saw Angie, even she was in disbelief.
- 16:00Patsy was a hard, tough female who wanted to
- 16:02impress everyone. She took a big gulp and applied
- 16:08pressure to Angie's head while she began to wrap
- 16:11it up. Once she wrapped Angie's head, she grabbed
- 16:16a sandwich bag out of her emergency case. place
- 16:21Angie's eyeball in it. The shotgun blast blew
- 16:26off one of Angie's eyeballs and the other one
- 16:30was hanging on by the laminate attached to her
- 16:34eye sockets. Patsy had a feeling Angie was dead
- 16:39but she had to do her best to try and save her
- 16:42life no matter what. In the meantime the police
- 16:46went door -to -door trying to determine who might
- 16:49have shot Angie. Two hours went by and still
- 16:53they had no luck. They were suspicious of a couple
- 16:57of people. By the way, they were acting. Steve,
- 17:01the neighbor who wanted the police to shoot Phil,
- 17:07would not open the door. He closed all of his
- 17:11curtains and turned out all of the lights in
- 17:15his house and garage. Andy's mother told the
- 17:20police she was glad that black boy was dead.
- 17:24because he disrespected Angie so many times that
- 17:27she forbid Theo from calling her house. Three
- 17:33hours passed and they still had no luck finding
- 17:36out who the shooter was. The policeman went home
- 17:40for the night. They will continue their investigation
- 17:45in the morning.
