- 0:03Speaker 1: Good morning, good morning, good morning.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Welcome, welcome, welcome. It is time now for Car Talk
- 0:07Speaker 2: right here on K1, the one you trust. A little
- 0:12Speaker 2: bit of rain, but it's doing everybody a little bit
- 0:15Speaker 2: of good. Brad, how you doing, Brad Dunst?
- 0:17Speaker 1: A typical sunshiny Thursday morning that we like for Car Talk.
- 0:21Speaker 1: You can almost bet on those. Yeah, well, lately it's
- 0:24Speaker 1: been predictable, hasn't it?
- 0:26Speaker 3: We'll take the rain, though. It's kind of nice, isn't it, Rhonda?
- 0:29Speaker 4: Yeah, it is. And the cooler temperatures.
- 0:31Speaker 3: It's nice, a little bit cooler.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Especially this weekend, I think on Friday and Saturday morning, it.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Would be nice and cool.
- 0:39Speaker 1: But my guest today is Rhonda Hudson from Ray of
- 0:42Speaker 1: Hope Advocacy Center.
- 0:43Speaker 3: How are you today?
- 0:45Speaker 4: I'm good.
- 0:46Speaker 1: I'm good.
- 0:46Speaker 4: Thanks for having me today. Of course.
- 0:48Speaker 1: It's great to have you here. I want to talk
- 0:51Speaker 1: about Hops for Hope and everything else going on with
- 0:55Speaker 1: you guys. I know you're probably in the final stages
- 1:00Speaker 1: of planning for this year's event.
- 1:02Speaker 4: We are such a cool.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Party out at the hangar five at the airport and
- 1:08Speaker 1: get hundreds of people out there it's a big deal.
- 1:11Speaker 5: It's a fun event um one of my i mean
- 1:14Speaker 5: you know of course it's my favorite of all the
- 1:17Speaker 5: non-profit events and really bartlesville is so lucky we have
- 1:20Speaker 5: so many creative fun ideas that some of the non-profits
- 1:23Speaker 5: are doing for fundraisers but we're Hops for Hope is
- 1:27Speaker 5: a little bit of a unique one in that it's
- 1:29Speaker 5: pretty relaxed in a big old airport hangar, and just
- 1:34Speaker 5: people can eat and taste beer at their.
- 1:38Speaker 4: Own pace and just have a good time with friends.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's homebrew focused, and I think you're kind
- 1:44Speaker 1: of celebrating the Route 66 theme this year.
- 1:47Speaker 3: Yeah, it's the.
- 1:49Speaker 5: 100th anniversary, and so we're celebrating with Brew 66, and
- 1:53Speaker 5: so we're going to have some fun.
- 1:55Speaker 4: Food ideas that celebrate.
- 1:57Speaker 5: Route 66 and some beer tastings and some of the
- 2:02Speaker 5: decorations and stuff. It's going to be really a fun
- 2:05Speaker 5: event celebrating Route 66.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Cool. It is a great event and one of those
- 2:12Speaker 1: that I look forward to every year and love to.
- 2:14Speaker 1: I mean, it's just that venue is so cool.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Oh, it's true.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:17Speaker 4: People don't.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Go out to the big hangars all that often. And
- 2:23Speaker 1: at the Bartlesville Airport, it's a chance to hang out.
- 2:26Speaker 1: I think over 800 people usually are there. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:30Speaker 3: It's a big party.
- 2:31Speaker 4: Yeah, and we're grateful.
- 2:33Speaker 5: The airport hangar, they have been so gracious to donate
- 2:37Speaker 5: the use of that space.
- 2:38Speaker 4: And I know they put in a lot.
- 2:40Speaker 5: Of time to clean it up and clean it out
- 2:42Speaker 5: for us so that we can fit 800 people in
- 2:45Speaker 5: there and all those things.
- 2:47Speaker 1: All the beers and the food. How many home brews?
- 2:50Speaker 5: So we are probably going to have about 30 beers there,
- 2:57Speaker 5: I think is what our count is at right now,
- 3:00Speaker 5: that people can taste. And there'll be some light beers
- 3:03Speaker 5: and dark beer. what we call mixed culture, which is just.
- 3:07Speaker 4: Whatever somebody decides to put together. You're mentioning the kombucha.
- 3:11Speaker 3: I don't drink anymore, so.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I like to look for the kombucha.
- 3:16Speaker 4: Yeah, so we'll have some of that. And, of course,
- 3:19Speaker 4: we'll have root beer and water and tea and coffee
- 3:21Speaker 4: for people who want to come out and have fun
- 3:24Speaker 4: but who aren't tasting beer.
- 3:25Speaker 6: Yes.
- 3:26Speaker 5: I don't drink either at the event because, you know,
- 3:28Speaker 5: I'm kind of on duty.
- 3:29Speaker 4: So, yeah. So I'll be I'll be over at the
- 3:32Speaker 4: kombucha with you.
- 3:33Speaker 1: The food is good. Yeah.
- 3:34Speaker 4: So the eatery is doing food again this year.
- 3:38Speaker 5: They've done it the past couple of years and they
- 3:40Speaker 5: do such a phenomenal job and they're so fantastic to
- 3:43Speaker 5: work with.
- 3:44Speaker 4: You know what I mean? Like just local vendors who
- 3:46Speaker 4: are just good to, yeah.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Local one.
- 3:49Speaker 4: So they're doing. They're focused on.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Our, you know, serving us. Yes. That's what they do.
- 3:53Speaker 5: And so, but yeah, they've got some really cool ideas
- 3:56Speaker 5: about some ways to pick up on that Route 66 theme.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Okay.
- 4:00Speaker 4: So we're excited about that.
- 4:02Speaker 1: And it's all to raise money for your, you know,
- 4:06Speaker 1: to fight child abuse and provide a place for people
- 4:09Speaker 1: who've suffered child abuse or domestic violence. Right. To get help. Right.
- 4:15Speaker 5: Yeah, it's so important for us to make sure that
- 4:20Speaker 5: we have the resources that survivors need when they come
- 4:25Speaker 5: to us for help. And so having sponsors and people
- 4:29Speaker 5: buying tickets for a fun event, that's such an easy
- 4:33Speaker 5: way to support making sure that survivors have everything that
- 4:38Speaker 5: they need to get the help after a like you said,
- 4:41Speaker 5: child abuse, domestic.
- 4:42Speaker 4: Violence, sexual assault.
- 4:44Speaker 5: We want to be sure that we're ready to serve
- 4:47Speaker 5: them as best as we can. And so our donors,
- 4:50Speaker 5: Hops for Hope, that is where this money is being directed.
- 4:53Speaker 1: There really is a growing need for your services, I understand.
- 4:57Speaker 5: Yeah, our numbers are up 20% from where they were
- 5:00Speaker 5: last year. And those numbers are up from the year before.
- 5:04Speaker 5: We have just It's just exploded.
- 5:07Speaker 4: I mean, Tom, you and I have talked before.
- 5:10Speaker 5: I don't know if it's more awareness and so more
- 5:13Speaker 5: people are reporting. Part of it, you hope that's some
- 5:16Speaker 5: of it, that we do a good job of letting
- 5:18Speaker 5: people know. Or if things are just getting a little
- 5:22Speaker 5: bit worse out there. And sometimes it's hard to know.
- 5:27Speaker 5: What I do know is the cases that are coming
- 5:29Speaker 5: to us.
- 5:31Speaker 4: Are more complex.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Hmm.
- 5:34Speaker 5: So there's usually multiple types of abuse or multiple risk
- 5:39Speaker 5: factors that are going on in a home.
- 5:41Speaker 4: And so that just makes it more complicated.
- 5:44Speaker 5: It makes it more complicated for survivors to get the
- 5:47Speaker 5: help they need because it's hard to untangle, you know,
- 5:52Speaker 5: all of those aspects. And so we're really grateful when
- 5:56Speaker 5: survivors are brave enough to come forward.
- 5:59Speaker 1: And when... The only way they get help, right?
- 6:01Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely.
- 6:02Speaker 5: Or when community members are concerned about the safety of
- 6:05Speaker 5: a child and they make a report. You know, everybody
- 6:09Speaker 5: in Oklahoma is a mandated reporter of child abuse. And
- 6:12Speaker 5: so we're grateful for those people who take that responsibility
- 6:16Speaker 5: seriously and report child abuse. We're grateful for community members
- 6:20Speaker 5: who get training on how to recognize and report child abuse.
- 6:23Speaker 5: If If that's something that somebody's interested in, we'll come
- 6:27Speaker 5: and do some free training just so you'll know what
- 6:29Speaker 5: to look for.
- 6:30Speaker 4: And tell.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Us about the services you provide and how that works.
- 6:37Speaker 5: So for the child abuse services, we take referrals from
- 6:43Speaker 5: law enforcement and child protective services. Like I said, in Oklahoma,
- 6:48Speaker 5: everybody's a mandated reporter of abuse, and so we don't
- 6:51Speaker 5: want to circumvent that system that's in place to make
- 6:54Speaker 5: a report to DHS or to law enforcement if you're
- 6:56Speaker 5: concerned about the safety of a child. So if you are,
- 7:00Speaker 5: make a report to the DHS child abuse hotline, and
- 7:04Speaker 5: then those referrals come to us from those departments if
- 7:08Speaker 5: they rise to the level of probably what's going to
- 7:11Speaker 5: be a criminal investigation of either severe physical abuse or.
- 7:16Speaker 4: sexual abuse of a child. And so we do those.
- 7:21Speaker 5: We offer medical exams for kiddos and adult survivors of
- 7:26Speaker 5: sexual assault there on site. And so we can provide
- 7:29Speaker 5: that just kind of all in one stop. And then
- 7:33Speaker 5: we provide ongoing advocacy and resources. We have mental health
- 7:37Speaker 5: on site because we know People do the really hard
- 7:42Speaker 5: thing of coming in our door one time, and so
- 7:44Speaker 5: we want to make it really easy for them to
- 7:46Speaker 5: feel safe coming back. And so we try to really
- 7:49Speaker 5: make sure that everything they might need to get that
- 7:53Speaker 5: immediate safety and get some stability and then move towards healing. Yeah,
- 7:59Speaker 5: so like once you can make it to Ray of Hope,
- 8:02Speaker 5: then our hope is that.
- 8:03Speaker 4: We've got everything you need.
- 8:05Speaker 5: And then we also offer adult services to domestic violence
- 8:08Speaker 5: survivors and their families, and that often includes children as well.
- 8:12Speaker 5: We have a 24 hour crisis line. And so if
- 8:17Speaker 5: at any point, day or night, if somebody is feeling
- 8:20Speaker 5: like they're not safe, they're not sure what to do,
- 8:23Speaker 5: and they're experiencing domestic violence. And of course, that's not
- 8:26Speaker 5: always just physical abuse that can look like a lot
- 8:30Speaker 5: of different things. And so if if somebody is concerned
- 8:33Speaker 5: about their safety or their well being in a relationship
- 8:37Speaker 5: at home or with a partner, they just need to
- 8:40Speaker 5: call our crisis line and we'll help them walk through
- 8:45Speaker 5: some safety planning. What's a safe way for you to
- 8:48Speaker 5: get help? Because it's not always safe to just.
- 8:52Speaker 4: You know, get help right when you need it. Sometimes
- 8:55Speaker 4: you need to do a little planning around that.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Well, it's got to be a complicated thing to deal with.
- 9:03Speaker 1: It's kind of one of those hidden services in our
- 9:05Speaker 1: community that, you know, nobody likes to.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Think about that.
- 9:10Speaker 5: Oh for sure it's easy to just go okay that's
- 9:13Speaker 5: not happening in my house so i'm just going to
- 9:15Speaker 5: not worry about it but really it is happening in
- 9:18Speaker 5: a lot of homes in our community and it is
- 9:20Speaker 5: impacting our neighbors our family our friends the people we
- 9:24Speaker 5: go to church with people we work with um.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Puts people in that situation where they're vulnerable too where
- 9:31Speaker 1: they may if they don't have that support they might
- 9:34Speaker 1: you know just leave or something right yeah homeless Oh, yeah.
- 9:39Speaker 1: And I'm sure that is a cause of homelessness.
- 9:42Speaker 5: Oh, that is one of the number one predictors of
- 9:45Speaker 5: homelessness in women in particular. But across the board, if
- 9:50Speaker 5: you have experienced domestic violence, you are at much higher
- 9:54Speaker 5: risk to experience the loss of your home, loss of income,
- 9:58Speaker 5: if your partner was the primary earner in the home
- 10:03Speaker 5: and you're scrambling once they leave or if they've gotten
- 10:05Speaker 5: arrested or whatever, all of a sudden you're scrambling to
- 10:10Speaker 5: figure out how do I pay the bills?
- 10:11Speaker 4: I have a lease agreement. I've got utilities. I need
- 10:14Speaker 4: to feed my kiddos.
- 10:16Speaker 5: So it can really disrupt the stability of a family.
- 10:20Speaker 5: And that's why Ray of Hope is there to help.
- 10:24Speaker 4: And to make sure they can kind of figure out
- 10:25Speaker 4: those next steps.
- 10:27Speaker 3: And how long has Ray of Hope been around?
- 10:29Speaker 1: I don't remember.
- 10:31Speaker 4: We first opened our doors in 2005.
- 10:33Speaker 5: And so we saw about, I don't know, like 48,
- 10:35Speaker 5: 50 kiddos that very first year.
- 10:37Speaker 4: Last year we served almost 2,000 individuals.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Wow. Yeah.
- 10:48Speaker 5: So across the board, you know, I was looking at
- 10:52Speaker 5: some numbers. We probably provided services to about 16,000 people
- 10:58Speaker 5: in our community.
- 10:59Speaker 4: Some of that is prevention services.
- 11:01Speaker 5: So when people get some training or.
- 11:04Speaker 4: You know, when we do some prevention training at the schools.
- 11:08Speaker 5: But so about half of that or probably a little
- 11:11Speaker 5: more than half of that, though, is direct services to
- 11:14Speaker 5: individual clients who've needed assistance. And so it's a responsibility
- 11:19Speaker 5: that we take really seriously and we're really so grateful
- 11:23Speaker 5: to our donors who donate throughout the year but then
- 11:26Speaker 5: also our sponsors who sponsor hops for hope and want
- 11:30Speaker 5: to thank you for being a sponsor of hops for hope.
- 11:32Speaker 4: It's happy to do that again i mean truly we
- 11:35Speaker 4: could not do it without.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Without you guys well it's a we're proud to help
- 11:41Speaker 1: and you know we'd love to be involved in our
- 11:43Speaker 1: community like you know like you guys.
- 11:46Speaker 3: This is This is where we are.
- 11:47Speaker 1: This is all we do is Bartlesville.
- 11:49Speaker 6: Exactly.
- 11:50Speaker 1: And our great customers here, and we're focused on them
- 11:53Speaker 1: and our community. And, you know, Bartlesville is so unique
- 11:57Speaker 1: in its network of nonprofits and.
- 12:01Speaker 3: All the kinds of full spectrum, I'll say, of everything
- 12:06Speaker 3: we need.
- 12:06Speaker 4: It seems like.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely. And it's great how each niche is filled
- 12:11Speaker 1: with great organizations like Ray of Hope and how you
- 12:15Speaker 1: You know, and it takes volunteers. You have a staff.
- 12:18Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 12:19Speaker 5: We've got a top-notch staff. We've got fantastic volunteers. And really,
- 12:24Speaker 5: you know, I just want to highlight what you mentioned
- 12:26Speaker 5: about the other nonprofits in town. We rely on the
- 12:32Speaker 5: nonprofits in our communities to support the survivors that we see.
- 12:35Speaker 4: And so if we're.
- 12:37Speaker 5: Helping somebody who's experiencing domestic violence, but they're not sure
- 12:40Speaker 5: where their next meal is going to come from, we're
- 12:43Speaker 5: going to be referring them to Agape or to Concern or,
- 12:47Speaker 5: you know, Mary Martha for... You know, all these different
- 12:50Speaker 5: organizations in town are creating a safety net for our clients.
- 12:55Speaker 4: And so, you know, we refer kids and.
- 12:58Speaker 5: Families to the Boys and Girls Club or to On
- 13:00Speaker 5: the Rock and, you know, all of these different programs.
- 13:05Speaker 4: There's so many. Samaritan for counseling. You know, so.
- 13:10Speaker 5: The network of nonprofits in our community is so fantastic
- 13:14Speaker 5: because there's a lot of behind-the-scenes support and collaboration that
- 13:18Speaker 5: probably the general public doesn't even see because we really
- 13:22Speaker 5: all value each other and the presence here in Bartlesville
- 13:25Speaker 5: because it really takes all of us to make sure
- 13:28Speaker 5: that people have what they need.
- 13:30Speaker 4: You know, if they're in crisis.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Well, that's just a wonderful way to put it, and
- 13:33Speaker 1: it is so valuable to our community, and I know...
- 13:37Speaker 1: you know, in a way it probably happens in every
- 13:39Speaker 1: community around the country, but, but I think, I hope so.
- 13:42Speaker 3: I think Bartlesville is.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Is, uh, is great because they, we do just can,
- 13:47Speaker 1: no matter what happens, all the change in the world,
- 13:50Speaker 1: we continue, continue to support those, support those organizations you mentioned.
- 13:54Speaker 3: And they all, they all seem to have their own niche.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Right.
- 13:57Speaker 3: And they do in a kind of a puzzle put.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Together to, to provide, provide that safety net that you mentioned. Yeah. And, uh,
- 14:06Speaker 1: You know, so if that inspires you folks, I'm sure.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Can you still get tickets to the.
- 14:11Speaker 4: Yeah, we still have great T-shirts. Yeah, we have. OK,
- 14:16Speaker 4: and I don't know if you've seen the logo yet,
- 14:18Speaker 4: but it is so.
- 14:19Speaker 3: Well, maybe I did on the website.
- 14:21Speaker 4: Yeah, it is so cute. Kind of leaning into that
- 14:23Speaker 4: Route 66 theme.
- 14:25Speaker 5: And so the T-shirts will be there. If you're a sponsor,
- 14:29Speaker 5: you get some shirts. And so we're excited about that.
- 14:32Speaker 5: But you can absolutely still get tickets. They're on sale
- 14:35Speaker 5: on our website. You can find a link to that
- 14:38Speaker 5: on social media, on our Ray of Hope Facebook page
- 14:41Speaker 5: or Instagram, or just on our website.
- 14:45Speaker 1: And are there still spots for homebrewers?
- 14:48Speaker 5: If somebody has been brewing beer and they forgot to
- 14:51Speaker 5: sign up, they need to call me today.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Okay, so last minute.
- 14:54Speaker 4: Last minute. I've checked on a couple.
- 14:56Speaker 5: So, yeah, some last-minute sneak-ins. We could probably accommodate them, but...
- 15:01Speaker 5: We're kind of winding down on that piece, too.
- 15:04Speaker 3: Well, then these folks are, you know, this is not.
- 15:07Speaker 1: A one-off for them.
- 15:08Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly.
- 15:09Speaker 5: And, you know, we'll also have Cooper and Mill and Scissortail.
- 15:12Speaker 5: They come and they serve samples. Both of those breweries
- 15:18Speaker 5: competed as home brewers many, many years ago. This is
- 15:23Speaker 5: our 17th year. So those first couple of years, we
- 15:26Speaker 5: had some... um home brewers that have.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Turned into i mean it has that whole industry it's
- 15:32Speaker 1: kind of blossomed in yeah.
- 15:34Speaker 5: Oh yeah i really um i tell people all the
- 15:36Speaker 5: time when we had a former board member who suggested
- 15:39Speaker 5: this idea and i was like you think people are
- 15:41Speaker 5: gonna pay money to come taste a beer someone made
- 15:44Speaker 5: in their.
- 15:45Speaker 4: Like garage really it turns out they will they will
- 15:49Speaker 4: and it turns out it's a really.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Fun event I mean, I must say, there's a full
- 15:53Speaker 1: spectrum of types of beer.
- 15:55Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 15:55Speaker 1: And it really is neat to talk to the brewers.
- 15:58Speaker 5: Oh, they put so much energy into doing this, and
- 16:01Speaker 5: it really is a labor of love. And they donate
- 16:04Speaker 5: that to Ray of Hope, and so we're really so grateful.
- 16:08Speaker 1: And I'll recommend everybody look for the kombucha out there.
- 16:12Speaker 3: We talked about that. That is good stuff.
- 16:15Speaker 1: It's kind of a fermented tea that that people brew
- 16:20Speaker 1: at home too.
- 16:21Speaker 4: It's supposed to be really healthy for you.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Yeah, it's probiotic. Very good stuff. That's what I'll be
- 16:29Speaker 1: searching out. So that's all coming up on November 7th
- 16:35Speaker 1: out at Hangar 5 at the airport, 6 to 10 p.m.
- 16:38Speaker 1: I think. Something like that. I've got food, brew, other drinks. Come,
- 16:47Speaker 1: have fun, bring your friends.
- 16:48Speaker 3: You get to judge.
- 16:50Speaker 4: Yeah, you get to vote on your favorite beers. And
- 16:52Speaker 4: we have a really great silent auction every year.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Yeah. And there are some really cool prizes.
- 17:00Speaker 4: Yeah, there are. And then we're going to have our
- 17:02Speaker 4: trips again this year.
- 17:03Speaker 5: We've had a company that we've partnered with to offer
- 17:06Speaker 5: some really special vacation packages.
- 17:08Speaker 4: And so they're going to be there again this year.
- 17:10Speaker 4: And so it'll be a lot of fun.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Great.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Well, we're looking forward to it. And, you know, we've
- 17:18Speaker 3: been very busy out at the dealership.
- 17:20Speaker 1: I was out last week. We had to run a
- 17:23Speaker 1: show from the past about this weekend's event. Hopefully the
- 17:27Speaker 1: rain will part and the dad's walk could continue. Dwayne's
- 17:32Speaker 1: going to walk it like Moses, baby.
- 17:34Speaker 3: I'm sure he will. There'll be.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Good. Talk about another great organization, Hope Stone, and their
- 17:40Speaker 1: big event coming up this weekend.
- 17:42Speaker 3: They're fantastic.
- 17:43Speaker 1: And they've got their big country music stuff.
- 17:46Speaker 3: By the time that starts, I think the weather will
- 17:48Speaker 3: be great. It'll be great.
- 17:50Speaker 1: It'll be awesome. And it should be pretty good as
- 17:53Speaker 1: it gets out of here tomorrow, but I think the
- 17:55Speaker 1: first parts of.
- 17:56Speaker 3: The walk might be.
- 17:57Speaker 6: A little soggy this morning when they started, but... So
- 18:01Speaker 6: hit know what this afternoon, Bartlesville tomorrow and then Saturday
- 18:06Speaker 6: up in Copac.
- 18:06Speaker 1: That's right. So excited for that. We've got viewership. We've
- 18:12Speaker 1: been very busy getting just continuing to the pace has
- 18:17Speaker 1: been so dramatic this year. And, you know, a lot
- 18:20Speaker 1: of that's just to take care of people. We're focused on,
- 18:23Speaker 1: you know, making it easy to buy a car, focused
- 18:26Speaker 1: on our customers and, making it, keeping it simple is
- 18:29Speaker 1: what we say. We have great markets, market-based pricing. We'll
- 18:34Speaker 1: try to eliminate the need for big negotiations. We don't
- 18:38Speaker 1: do the, the shell games and move things around. And,
- 18:42Speaker 1: you know, I, I think, uh, you know, I remember
- 18:44Speaker 1: when I got in the car business the first time, uh,
- 18:47Speaker 1: or back in long ago, uh, that seemed to me,
- 18:51Speaker 1: some of the ads were kind of hard to believe
- 18:53Speaker 1: the offers that were over the top. And, you know,
- 18:56Speaker 1: that we don't do that stuff. We don't, We don't
- 19:01Speaker 1: want to make fools of our customers. We want to
- 19:04Speaker 1: keep it simple, get you a great deal. Our non-commissioned
- 19:08Speaker 1: sales team is really focused on you, wants to guide
- 19:11Speaker 1: you through the vehicle purchase process and save you time
- 19:14Speaker 1: and money. And one of the customers called it, they
- 19:18Speaker 1: didn't get the salesman hick.
- 19:21Speaker 2: That's a good way of putting it.
- 19:22Speaker 1: I like that, yeah.
- 19:24Speaker 5: Well, I think people put off car buying sometimes because
- 19:26Speaker 5: they think, I don't want to, like, have to deal
- 19:29Speaker 5: with what I think.
- 19:30Speaker 3: I'm going to do.
- 19:31Speaker 1: I know they do. And, you know, there's this shift
- 19:34Speaker 1: going on in our business where, you know, it's changing rapidly,
- 19:39Speaker 1: not just through the technology, but, you know, big corporate
- 19:43Speaker 1: dealers are taking over. And, you know, there's still a place,
- 19:47Speaker 1: I think, I hope, for a small local dealership that
- 19:51Speaker 1: you know that's focused on one community i read this
- 19:53Speaker 1: morning the penske automotive group that sold 260 000 vehicles
- 19:59Speaker 1: in a year is you know it's taking themselves private
- 20:03Speaker 1: and and going through this about big thing over millions,
- 20:08Speaker 1: probably billions of dollars, $ 60 billion. I can't even, 16.
- 20:13Speaker 1: I can't even fathom that. I mean, that's not the
- 20:17Speaker 1: business we're in. Since 1929, my family's been here in
- 20:21Speaker 1: Oklahoma taking care of people.
- 20:24Speaker 3: By no means are we.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Perfect, but we're there every day, family in the business,
- 20:30Speaker 1: every day.
- 20:30Speaker 3: At the store, small businesses. We like it that way.
- 20:35Speaker 1: I do. It's the business I want to be in
- 20:38Speaker 1: and kind of continue that focus on one community. We
- 20:41Speaker 1: enable the support of organizations like Hops for Hope.
- 20:45Speaker 3: And keep it simple. Take care of people.
- 20:49Speaker 1: If that sounds good to you, you know, we are small.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Sometimes the idea is basically if you don't have the car, sure,
- 20:57Speaker 1: you can go to Tulsa and look, but we kind
- 21:00Speaker 1: of hope you want to buy from us and give
- 21:02Speaker 1: us a chance. You know, let us know what you want.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Give us a little time. We can get anything.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:08Speaker 1: And we will. And our team is trained to help
- 21:12Speaker 1: you through that process, to answer questions, to help you,
- 21:15Speaker 1: you know, some of the complex math involved in buying
- 21:19Speaker 1: a car because not everybody can stroke a check for
- 21:22Speaker 1: a car. Very few people in today's world. And so
- 21:28Speaker 1: we put tools on our website where you can work
- 21:30Speaker 1: your own deal. And it's the same tool and math
- 21:35Speaker 1: we use at the dealership to calculate your payment, to
- 21:38Speaker 1: structure your car deal. And at the same time, that
- 21:42Speaker 1: helps save you time. So a lot of the struggle
- 21:47Speaker 1: in buying a car comes from the back and forth
- 21:50Speaker 1: and the attempts to squeeze a little more profit out
- 21:54Speaker 1: of each part of the process. And Of course we
- 21:58Speaker 1: need to make a profit. It doesn't work if we don't.
- 22:01Speaker 1: But the reality is we know we can do that
- 22:05Speaker 1: and take care of our customers. That's something we're very
- 22:08Speaker 1: focused on.
- 22:09Speaker 5: As nonprofits, we think about this a lot because it
- 22:13Speaker 5: is our local businesses here in our community that are
- 22:19Speaker 5: the small business owners, the local business owners who are
- 22:22Speaker 5: sponsoring Hops for Hope or other nonprofit events.
- 22:27Speaker 4: I mean, it's not TJ Maxx that is, you know, sponsoring.
- 22:30Speaker 1: There's a good example of that too.
- 22:33Speaker 4: So there's lots of great places to shop and visit
- 22:37Speaker 4: in our community.
- 22:37Speaker 5: And we love the conveniences of some of them, but
- 22:40Speaker 5: we really do try to highlight our, you know, small
- 22:43Speaker 5: business owners that are in the trenches with the nonprofits
- 22:47Speaker 5: every day. They're the ones doing the silent auction baskets
- 22:50Speaker 5: and the local sponsorships. And so, Yeah, so it's important
- 22:54Speaker 5: to support our local businesses because they're supporting the nonprofits,
- 22:58Speaker 5: which is keeping our community safe.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Well, again, let's promote the event coming up again, Hops
- 23:06Speaker 1: for Hope. Great homebrewing competition, great prizes for you to
- 23:12Speaker 1: bid on, all coming up November 7th at 6 to
- 23:16Speaker 1: 10 p.m. at the Bartlesville Municipal Airport, Hangar 5. And
- 23:21Speaker 1: it does provide critical funding for child abuse and domestic
- 23:25Speaker 1: violence survivors. And thank you, Rhonda, for your focus on
- 23:32Speaker 1: that and all the years you've given to this cause.
- 23:36Speaker 1: And I know it's a calling for you.
- 23:39Speaker 4: Yeah, it's been my honor, truly.
- 23:42Speaker 3: It shows. We appreciate you in our community.
- 23:46Speaker 1: And hopefully the community will want to keep investing In
- 23:49Speaker 1: Ops for Hope and in the safety and stability of
- 23:52Speaker 1: these folks who need help at that critical time. So, well,
- 23:59Speaker 1: we've nearly used up our half hour.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Indeed, we have.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Once again. Yeah. Tell everybody where we can find you, Brad.
- 24:08Speaker 1: We're at 1911 Southeast Washington Boulevard, the big Toyota pylon there.
- 24:13Speaker 1: And on the web at dungestoyota.com. And there you can
- 24:19Speaker 1: do all kinds of things. A great new tool. Cool, yeah.
- 24:22Speaker 1: I don't know if it's quite live yet, but there's
- 24:25Speaker 1: a little, it's an AI chat tool. But now you
- 24:29Speaker 1: can schedule your service in there without having to click
- 24:34Speaker 1: and find your VIN and all kinds of things. It's
- 24:37Speaker 1: much faster for scheduling service. Nice. I think it's going
- 24:40Speaker 1: to be a really great, great way to.
- 24:43Speaker 3: Just simplify things and keep, you know, while we're, We're
- 24:47Speaker 3: not big.
- 24:48Speaker 1: We know we have to compete with these big companies
- 24:50Speaker 1: investing in technology and changing fast. We definitely are not
- 24:54Speaker 1: going to sit on our hands and wait for the
- 24:58Speaker 1: world to change around us. We're going to keep driving
- 25:01Speaker 1: that change and try to be the best at taking
- 25:04Speaker 1: care of our customers. They're moving from simple pricing to
- 25:06Speaker 1: simple everything.
- 25:07Speaker 3: No, that is.
- 25:08Speaker 1: We definitely want to do that throughout the dealership. And
- 25:12Speaker 1: that's part of the plan for sure. We know we
- 25:14Speaker 1: have to stay competitive.
- 25:17Speaker 6: I want to thank everybody for being a part of
- 25:20Speaker 6: our program today, Car Talk with Dungeous Toyota. And, of course,
- 25:24Speaker 6: we've been talking with.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Ray of Hope.
- 25:25Speaker 6: And don't forget Hops for Hope's November 7th. Folks, we've
- 25:29Speaker 6: got news coming up in just a moment. Going to
- 25:31Speaker 6: give you a check on the weather here in just
- 25:34Speaker 6: a flash and let you know just how wet it's
- 25:36Speaker 6: going to be.
