- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, welcome to this episode of the Daily Writer.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: The way some of us writers shrink back from a challenge, you'd think that we all are gonna live forever.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: We hesitate to write that book because we fear what others will think.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: We don't set up that website because it feels too hard.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: We don't meet with that person who's five years ahead of us because we're too intimidated.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: We don't make that social media post because we question whether we're a good enough writer.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: It might feel scary in the moment, but what about a hundred years from now?
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: Well, a hundred years from now we're all going to be gone.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Now that's a hard truth to hear, but it's still the truth.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Our lives are but a blink of an eye compared to the endless expanse of eternity.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Steve Jobs gave us a helpful perspective when he said this.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Remembering that you're going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: You are already naked.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: It's a pretty powerful quote, isn't it?
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: The truth is that when you die, you can't take anything with you.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: All those words and ideas and stories that you've been storing up to write someday, well, they're just going to vanish.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: You can't take that material with you.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: If you don't write it when you're alive, it won't get written, and we're all going to be the worse off for it simply because you were too scared to do it.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: When you're gone, everything goes back in the box.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: All your ideas, all your stories, all your plans, your goals, your hopes and dreams and visions, it all goes back in the box.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: So you might as well just go for it now while you still have the time.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: What have you got to lose?
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Here's today's question.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: Does knowing that you will die someday help motivate you to say what you want to say in your writing?
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: If you've been listening to this show for any length of time, you know that one of the four practices of a great writer is creativity.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: And in order to stay creative, you've got to have great input.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: And that's where writing prompts come in.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: A writing prompt is a sentence or two that helps you break through creative blocks, brainstorm new ideas, and get back into a state of flow.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: Writing prompts are an awesome creative tool for journaling, storytelling, creative writing, stress relief, social media posts, and so much more.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: But the great news is that you don't have to create these yourself.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: We've put together an amazing package of 365 daily writing prompts.
