Transcript
- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another French session with Fexingo? Luna: Yes! I've been practicing my possessives from last time, but I think I need more practice with mon, ma, and mes. Lucas: Perfect, because today we're going to do a quick recap with some new examples. So, mon is for masculine nouns. For example, mon livre — my book. Luna: Mon livre. My book. Lucas: Exactly. And ma is for feminine nouns. So, ma maison — my house. Luna: Ma maison. My house. Lucas: Good. And mes is for plural nouns, like mes clés — my keys. Luna: Mes clés. My keys. Lucas: Let's put them in full sentences. C'est mon livre — that's my book. Luna: C'est mon livre. That's my book. Lucas: C'est ma maison — that's my house. Luna: C'est ma maison. That's my house. Lucas: Ce sont mes clés — these are my keys. Luna: Ce sont mes clés. These are my keys. Lucas: Now, let's do a little scene. Imagine you're showing a friend around your apartment. You say, 'C'est ma cuisine.' Luna: C'est ma cuisine. That's my kitchen. Lucas: Then you point to your bookshelf: 'Ce sont mes livres.' Luna: Ce sont mes livres. Those are my books. Lucas: And then you show your bedroom: 'C'est mon lit.' Luna: C'est mon lit. That's my bed. Lucas: Nice. Notice that even though lit is masculine, we use mon. So it's mon lit, not ma lit. Luna: Right, because it's masculine. Mon lit. Lucas: And what about if you have a feminine noun starting with a vowel? Like amie — friend. It's mon amie, not ma amie, because it sounds better. Luna: Oh, I remember that! Mon amie. My friend. Lucas: Exactly. So to recap: mon for masculine and before vowels, ma for feminine, mes for plural. Let's practice one more time. Repeat after me: mon livre. Luna: Mon livre. Lucas: Ma maison. Luna: Ma maison. Lucas: Mes clés. Luna: Mes clés. Lucas: You know, it's amazing how these little words help you express ownership. And speaking of support, if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with French, a handful of listeners chip in monthly through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo, and that's literally what funds making this many of these. Luna: Yeah, it's a small group but it makes a big difference. Keeps the show ad-free and focused on teaching. Lucas: So anyway, let's try one more phrase: C'est mon chat. That's my cat. Luna: C'est mon chat. Lucas: C'est ma voiture. That's my car. Luna: C'est ma voiture. Lucas: Ce sont mes chaussures. These are my shoes. Luna: Ce sont mes chaussures. Lucas: Perfect. You've got it. Keep practicing, and next time we'll build on these with more possessives. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. This was really helpful. See you next time!
