- 0:00In today's fast-paced and constantly changing world, it's more important than ever to have a growth mindset and take personal to initiative in order to achieve your goals and live your best life.
- 0:13This is a true entrepreneurial mindset and helps business owners and team members create success in their companies and lives.
- 0:23That is why this virtue, having personal initiative is a great one to focus on today.
- 0:29But oftentimes it's not as simple as saying to yourself, I'm going to shift my mindset, and sometimes that can seem like a daunting task.
- 0:38I'd like to reframe that idea.
- 0:40In today's episode, I can tell you from personal experience that it is more powerful and helpful to have a personal initiative that comes from a place of kindness to self and others in the spirit of harmony.
- 0:55Today we're gonna talk about unleashing your potential and the power of personal initiative.
- 1:01This is one of the virtues that is in my free 12 week program of personal virtues.
- 1:08You can find that program, have it delivered to your InMail box, or have access to the private blog at kathieowen.com/virtues.
- 1:20You're listening to the Kathie's Coaching Podcast.
- 1:23I'm your host, Kathie Owen.
- 1:26I have been a certified fitness trainer and certified life coach since 2002.
- 1:32On this channel, we talk about having a growth mindset, healthy habits, fitness, and even some Reality Transurfing.
- 1:39And today we are talking about the power of personal initiative.
- 1:45It's one of the virtues in the 12 week virtue building program.
- 1:50So a growth mindset is what is going to help you achieve personal initiative.
- 1:56What is a growth mindset?
- 1:58Well, a growth mindset as defined by psychologist Carol Dweck refers to the belief that abilities and intelligence can be developed and improved through hard work, dedication, and effort.
- 2:13On the other hand, a fixed mindset is the belief that abilities and intelligence are set traits that cannot be changed.
- 2:21Now I'd like to remove the words hard work from that phrase, because honestly, when your heart and intuition are connected, it won't be hard work at all.
- 2:32Your heart and intuition are also considered to be what Reality Transurfing calls, outer intention.
- 2:39listening to your heart and intuition can also play a big role in personal initiative.
- 2:45This is where things become easy, not hard.
- 2:48Your heart and intuition are the inner voice that guides you towards your passions and purpose.
- 2:54By paying attention to these inner signals, you can tap into your authentic desires and take actions that align with your values and goals.
- 3:03When you are in tune with your heart and intuition, you are more likely to feel motivated, inspired, and driven to take personal initiative.
- 3:12As you are following your own path rather than someone else's.
- 3:17Following your heart and intuition can bring a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction as you are pursuing what truly matters to you.
- 3:26So don't be afraid to listen to your heart and intuition and let them guide you toward your own personal initiative and success.
- 3:34As Steve Job says in his commencement speech, follow your heart and intuition because it already knows the way.
- 3:41But he also says it takes courage to do so.
- 3:44But I can promise you that when you do this, the pathway definitely won't be hard, and synchronicities will be everywhere from training programs to new opportunities at every corner.
- 3:59Research has shown that people with a growth mindset tend to be more resilient, persistent, and successful in their personal and professional lives.
- 4:07This is a true entrepreneur mindset.
- 4:11They are open to new challenges and opportunities, and they embrace failure as an opportunity to learn and grow.
- 4:19I talked about.
- 4:21Embracing failure in last week's virtue, and I'll have a link to that in the show notes and description below.
- 4:31They also believe in their ability to change and improve, and they are more likely to take action toward their goals.
- 4:38This is a proactive mindset, and obviously it takes courage to think in these new ways.
- 4:44That is what Steve Jobs meant when he said to have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.
- 4:50In contrast, people with a fixed mindset tend to avoid challenges and give up easily when faced with obstacles.
- 4:58They also tend to shy away from feedback as they view it as a reflection of their limitations rather than an opportunity to grow.
- 5:07Personal initiative beats a fixed mindset every single time.
- 5:12but this isn't just a competition here, it's just life.
- 5:18Personal initiative or the willingness to take action without being prompted by others is also critical to success.
- 5:25People who take personal initiative are proactive and self-motivated, and usually can become very successful entrepreneurs.
- 5:33They don't wait for someone else to tell them what to do or to take action on their behalf.
- 5:38Instead, they take charge of their own lives.
- 5:41And make things happen.
- 5:43They are able to take those life lessons and create long-term success.
- 5:49This is atypical entrepreneurial behavior.
- 5:53I'm just saying.
- 5:56Personal initiative and a growth mindset.
- 5:58Go hand in hand..
- 6:00As they both require a willingness to step out of your comfort zone, take risks, and embrace uncertainty.
- 6:07.Actually personal initiative could become a very positive traditional business training.
- 6:14When you have a growth mindset, you are more likely to take personal initiative as you view challenges and obstacles as opportunities for growth and development.
- 6:24Many young people of today could benefit from adding this to their entrepreneurial soft skills.
- 6:31Consider adding a personal initiative program to your human resource management and traditional training programs.
- 6:39When you take personal initiative, you're more likely to adopt a growth mindset as you see your ability to create and shape your own life and circumstances.
- 6:50So how can you take action on today's episode?
- 6:53Well, first of all, you could go download your episode at kathieowen.com/virtues, and I have a free download that goes with this episode and all of the virtue episodes, as well as this article and the video and episode on the podcast.
- 7:12In order to cultivate a growth mindset and take personal initiative, there are several things you can do.
- 7:18Number one, embrace challenges and failures.
- 7:21And I talked about this in last week's virtue about, um, embracing failure and it's important to view challenges and failures as opportunities to learn and grow rather than as reflections of your limitations.
- 7:38This will definitely pay off for your interpersonal skills and can become innovative behavior.
- 7:45Number two, surround yourself with the right people who are positive, you know, supportive people, and those who believe in your abilities and support your goals.
- 7:54By doing this, you can ensure that your fellow team members are pulling their own weight, and it will definitely improve your problem solving skills as a team.
- 8:03Number three, seek out feedback and constructive criticism and use it to improve and grow.
- 8:10Sometimes this can take the form of formal education, or perhaps you seek out some type of coaching and community that provides accountability and feedback on your actual business performance.
- 8:23Number four, take small, consistent steps towards your goals rather than waiting for the perfect moment or circumstances.
- 8:31Oftentimes this will take the form of persistent behavior over the long term.
- 8:36This type of work will pay off in the future.
- 8:39and it can be much like a dance, you know, a few steps forward, a few steps back.
- 8:45Just remain persistent and consistent.
- 8:48And number five, believe in your ability to change and grow and take personal responsibility for your life and circumstances..
- 8:57I talk about responsibility all the time, but I view responsibility as a positive aspect of life.
- 9:04Responsibility can actually help you to take accountability for your actions and behavior.
- 9:10That right there is the best mindset and the best state of mind to be in.
- 9:15If you were to ask me.
- 9:18In conclusion, having a growth mindset and taking personal initiative is critical to unlocking your full potential and living your best life.
- 9:27By embracing challenges and failures surrounding yourself with positive and supportive people and taking small, consistent steps towards your goals.
- 9:36You can cultivate a growth mindset and take personal initiative to create the life you want and that my friend makes personal initiative an excellent virtue to study and return to cultivate on a regular basis.
- 9:52Alright, that's my episode for today.
- 9:54I hope you like that.
- 9:55And if you did and you know someone who could benefit from this, please share it with them.
- 10:00And until next time, I will see you next time.
- 10:03Peace out and Namste.
