- 1:14Speaker 1: Joining us now, Jared Stillman, friend of the show, friend
- 1:17Speaker 1: of ours as well.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Good to see you, Stillman. Hope things are well, bro.
- 1:21Speaker 4: Yeah, no, really excited to be on the program. And
- 1:24Speaker 4: I heard Chad saying that his brother-in-law is a big
- 1:27Speaker 4: Crockett coffee guy now. So I hear that ad read
- 1:30Speaker 4: and I'm like, man, I need some Crockett coffee in
- 1:32Speaker 4: the morning.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Just made myself a new order recently, Stillman. I just
- 1:36Speaker 3: got the alert from Amazon. That the delivery is on
- 1:39Speaker 3: the way, so I'll have some new flavors.
- 1:42Speaker 4: So I'm not a coffee guy, but you got to
- 1:44Speaker 4: tell Clay, for hillbillies like me, and I know he's
- 1:48Speaker 4: got a lot of hillbilly fans.
- 1:50Speaker 5: Not all his fans are hillbillies, but he's got a
- 1:52Speaker 5: lot of hillbilly fans.
- 1:52Speaker 3: We love hillbillies. We love hillbillies on this show, too.
- 1:55Speaker 3: We love everyone.
- 1:56Speaker 4: Diet Crockett Dew is what I think I would eat
- 2:00Speaker 4: in the morning because I'm not a coffee guy.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Are you a diet do guy or a hardcore Mountain
- 2:06Speaker 3: Dew guy?
- 2:07Speaker 4: So I am definitely a diet. I'm too fat to
- 2:09Speaker 4: drink regular soda. So everything's got to be like a
- 2:13Speaker 4: diet or a zero sugar for me.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Have you guys tried Sundrop?
- 2:18Speaker 4: I've tried Sundrop like 50 years ago.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Back at the farm, everybody drinks Sundrop with peanuts in it.
- 2:28Speaker 5: So I started drinking Celsius.
- 2:32Speaker 4: Like just the little sticks and, you know, shake it
- 2:34Speaker 4: up or whatever and drink it in water.
- 2:36Speaker 5: I used to drink no caffeine. Then I had a kid.
- 2:38Speaker 5: Chad can attest to this.
- 2:39Speaker 4: Then I had a kid and it was like, well,
- 2:41Speaker 4: the idea of no caffeine is completely out of the water.
- 2:44Speaker 4: Started drinking Celsius. I became the most productive I'd ever been.
- 2:48Speaker 4: And then I would forget about everything that I had
- 2:50Speaker 4: done during the day.
- 2:51Speaker 3: I mean, I'm to the point now where I have
- 2:54Speaker 3: withdrawals if I don't have coffee in the morning or
- 2:57Speaker 3: some form of caffeine. I can get to two o'clock
- 2:59Speaker 3: in the afternoon. I'm thinking, what's going on? Oh, I
- 3:01Speaker 3: haven't had caffeine recently. That's why I feel the way
- 3:03Speaker 3: that I do. So welcome to the kid.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Club, Stillman.
- 3:06Speaker 3: You're going to drink more and more caffeine as you
- 3:08Speaker 3: go along. And I promise you that I may, I
- 3:10Speaker 3: may send you some Crockett coffee so I can get
- 3:12Speaker 3: you hooked on coffee. Cause that's the next, next frontier
- 3:15Speaker 3: for you, my friend.
- 3:17Speaker 4: You know, I think my fiance is a huge coffee
- 3:20Speaker 4: drinker and she's going to be applying for a green
- 3:23Speaker 4: card here once we get married. So if go ahead,
- 3:26Speaker 4: send us some Crockett coffee and, And if Clay could
- 3:29Speaker 4: put in a good word with President Trump on Saturday
- 3:31Speaker 4: at the game for my fiance's green card, we would
- 3:35Speaker 4: appreciate it.
- 3:36Speaker 3: You may need some help. Trust me. I've gotten some
- 3:37Speaker 3: calls from people that are like, hey, can you call Clay?
- 3:39Speaker 3: I've got a family situation on a green card. I'm like,
- 3:43Speaker 3: I don't think Clay just texts the president and gets
- 3:46Speaker 3: people admitted into the country like that. But I tell them, yeah, sure,
- 3:49Speaker 3: I'll get with Clay. And then I never reach out
- 3:51Speaker 3: to him. Hey, speaking of New Frontier, Stillman. Stillman on
- 3:54Speaker 3: Floyd Street, your new podcast covering Louisville athletics. What can
- 3:57Speaker 3: you tell us about it?
- 3:58Speaker 4: Yeah, so Floyd Street Media, which is, trying to think
- 4:02Speaker 4: of the right way to say this, collectives used to
- 4:04Speaker 4: be the thing as far as NIL was concerned. Now
- 4:07Speaker 4: they are no longer the thing. It's no longer the
- 4:09Speaker 4: collective directly pays the player. But in order to go
- 4:14Speaker 4: over the cap, which was set in the House agreement,
- 4:17Speaker 4: You know, each college kind of has their own NIL arm,
- 4:20Speaker 4: and it's a separate entity, not technically connected to the university,
- 4:24Speaker 4: but the Floyd Street Media is the NIL arm of
- 4:29Speaker 4: the University of Louisville that, you know, again, has great
- 4:33Speaker 4: players that just beat SMU, almost beat Ole Miss in
- 4:36Speaker 4: week one down in Nashville. And so Stillman on Floyd Street,
- 4:39Speaker 4: it's a new three-time-a-week podcast. It's going to have access
- 4:41Speaker 4: with the players. And, you know, it's funny because– You
- 4:46Speaker 4: guys know this. You guys know I went to Louisville.
- 4:48Speaker 4: You guys know I'm a huge Louisville fan. You guys
- 4:50Speaker 4: know I'm friends with so many people in the athletic department.
- 4:52Speaker 4: But I enjoyed not being, you know, covering the teams,
- 4:58Speaker 4: not kind of almost being like an unofficial ambassador where
- 5:01Speaker 4: I could come in and out whenever I wanted to.
- 5:04Speaker 4: This is going to put me, in my opinions, which
- 5:06Speaker 4: sometimes can upset some people, right back into the mix.
- 5:12Speaker 4: I'm really excited to do this show because it's not
- 5:15Speaker 4: going to be the same as, say, my own podcast
- 5:18Speaker 4: where I yell into the mic about the Titans for
- 5:19Speaker 4: an hour, but it'll be more about learning about the
- 5:23Speaker 4: athletes and It'll be more of like a Pat McAfee-style
- 5:26Speaker 4: type show with the athletes. Lincoln Keenholz will be on
- 5:30Speaker 4: our first show Friday. He may be a contender for
- 5:32Speaker 4: the Heisman Trophy this year. And it'll be more about
- 5:36Speaker 4: kind of like building the athletes' brands. Because I think
- 5:40Speaker 4: in college football, at this point, you have two choices.
- 5:43Speaker 4: You can either accept where it's going, and you can
- 5:45Speaker 4: accept the fact that these guys have brands, and they're
- 5:48Speaker 4: going to make money, and they want endorsement deals, and
- 5:51Speaker 4: they want Instagram followings. Or you can bury your head
- 5:54Speaker 4: in the sand and be Dabo Sweeney. And I don't
- 5:56Speaker 4: want to be Dabo Sweeney. And I don't think here
- 5:58Speaker 4: at Louisville they want to be what Dabo Sweeney has
- 6:00Speaker 4: become at Clemson. So for me, I think this is
- 6:03Speaker 4: kind of their venture, their NIL venture into how do
- 6:07Speaker 4: we take the agreements that we've made.
- 6:09Speaker 5: With the athletes.
- 6:10Speaker 4: in which we produce NIL opportunities, and how can we
- 6:14Speaker 4: put a show that people will watch with somebody that
- 6:19Speaker 4: can interview, that has the skills, that knows what's going on,
- 6:23Speaker 4: and I'm really excited to get started doing this.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I'm fascinated to get feedback from you on this whenever
- 6:30Speaker 1: it starts going, because nowadays it's very difficult, and I
- 6:33Speaker 1: think you guys would agree, to get college players to
- 6:36Speaker 1: say anything. You know, like it just, they're all buttoned up.
- 6:40Speaker 1: We just saw what happened in Texas with Arch Manning.
- 6:43Speaker 1: And everyone's behind a podium now instead of one-on-one. So
- 6:47Speaker 1: I love the access that you're getting. Tennessee does a
- 6:49Speaker 1: little bit of it with Mike Keith, but these are
- 6:52Speaker 1: few and far between now where everything's in-house, if anything.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Available to the media.
- 6:58Speaker 1: It's a different way of going about the interview now.
- 7:03Speaker 1: You've got to be strategic with how you are going
- 7:05Speaker 1: to ask the questions to try to get to know them.
- 7:07Speaker 2: You did this with Floyd, right? Getting to know him
- 7:10Speaker 2: early on.
- 7:11Speaker 1: We did that with Delaney Walker and Logan Ryan, where
- 7:15Speaker 1: they were starting to say so much on our show.
- 7:17Speaker 1: that the coach was like, hey, stop saying so much
- 7:20Speaker 1: about injuries. Or Paul pissed them off and they didn't
- 7:24Speaker 1: want to do the show anymore. But point being, have
- 7:27Speaker 1: you thought about the player show now versus what it
- 7:30Speaker 1: would have been like 10 years ago and how much
- 7:32Speaker 1: that has changed despite NIL?
- 7:34Speaker 3: Sure.
- 7:35Speaker 4: I think to a certain extent, the player has to
- 7:37Speaker 4: want to talk and the player has to be able
- 7:39Speaker 4: to understand what comes with the talking. And that's kind
- 7:43Speaker 4: of where I look at my role, right? Aaron Rodgers
- 7:45Speaker 4: has no worries of going on McAfee and saying whatever
- 7:48Speaker 4: he wants to say because in Aaron Rodgers' world, he
- 7:51Speaker 4: can deal with whatever criticism and he doesn't care. I
- 7:54Speaker 4: think he likes the attention so much that he doesn't
- 7:57Speaker 4: mind the negative feedback that comes. Arch Manning clearly was
- 8:01Speaker 4: affected by the negative feedback that came from the Holly
- 8:03Speaker 4: Rose situation, which, I mean, to me was really not
- 8:07Speaker 4: a story, but I can't decide what stories are.
- 8:09Speaker 5: They are what they are.
- 8:11Speaker 4: I think that's where I want to be really transparent
- 8:14Speaker 4: with the Floyd street audience, as opposed to say the
- 8:18Speaker 4: Titans audience or my serious XM audience, or even my
- 8:22Speaker 4: college football podcast audience that when it comes to this show,
- 8:26Speaker 4: I mean, this is like a partnership of me and
- 8:28Speaker 4: the athletes, you know, and I want the players and
- 8:32Speaker 4: the coaches to a certain extent. I want them to
- 8:34Speaker 4: know like, Hey, we're going to go over before we
- 8:37Speaker 4: sit you down, we're going to go over What it
- 8:41Speaker 4: is you want to say. What it is you want
- 8:44Speaker 4: to make sure people understand. I did an interview with
- 8:48Speaker 4: Awful Announcing two weeks ago. After the Titans got crushed
- 8:51Speaker 4: by the Jets, they wanted to do an interview with
- 8:53Speaker 4: me about my.
- 8:54Speaker 5: Credential being revoked by the Titans.
- 8:57Speaker 4: And as I was doing that interview, I was listening
- 9:00Speaker 4: in my head as if I was my own PR director.
- 9:03Speaker 4: Almost analyzing the words that were coming out of my
- 9:06Speaker 4: mouth and how that it would sound in an article. Well,
- 9:10Speaker 4: Lincoln Keenholz has Wake Forest to worry about on Saturday.
- 9:13Speaker 4: He doesn't exactly have the time to worry about that.
- 9:16Speaker 4: I want to help the athletes with that because it's
- 9:19Speaker 4: all a big part of the brand. And that's what
- 9:21Speaker 4: this is nowadays. And so I think to your point, Hutton,
- 9:24Speaker 4: there's always going to be guys who talk. There's going
- 9:26Speaker 4: to be guys that aren't interested in talking. I want
- 9:29Speaker 4: to get to know the guys that do want to talk.
- 9:33Speaker 4: And I want to kind of coach them up and say, hey,
- 9:35Speaker 4: If this is what you're looking for, then let's position
- 9:39Speaker 4: it like this. If this is what you're looking for,
- 9:42Speaker 4: let's position it like that. And I'll use Kienholz as
- 9:45Speaker 4: an example. I think right now in the odds, he's
- 9:47Speaker 4: 13th as far as the Heisman Trophy is concerned. But
- 9:50Speaker 4: you guys know how this works. Guys will lose some games.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Guys will win some games. He could move up into
- 9:55Speaker 4: the top five, top six, something like that. Is this something,
- 9:59Speaker 4: and I'll say to him, off the air before we do,
- 10:01Speaker 4: is this something that, hey, you really want to push?
- 10:03Speaker 4: You know, do we really want, you know, to sit
- 10:05Speaker 4: there and talk about the Heisman Trophy? Because if he
- 10:07Speaker 4: comes on here and he starts talking about how, hey,
- 10:10Speaker 4: you know, I think, you know, I was right there
- 10:11Speaker 4: with Julian San with Ohio State, and I think he
- 10:14Speaker 4: was a Heisman finalist last year.
- 10:16Speaker 5: So I feel like I'm right there too.
- 10:20Speaker 4: If he says something like that, is that something that
- 10:22Speaker 4: gets clipped and gets sent out to college game day?
- 10:25Speaker 5: And does that become a talking point? You know, it's like,
- 10:27Speaker 5: What do you want out of this?
- 10:29Speaker 4: And, you know, the number one thing that I've learned,
- 10:31Speaker 4: and I think we've talked about this, my show in
- 10:36Speaker 4: Nashville was a very controversial, very opinionated, very, I don't
- 10:42Speaker 4: want to say conspiracy theory.
- 10:43Speaker 5: But very speculative show.
- 10:47Speaker 4: And when I stopped doing the radio and I went
- 10:49Speaker 4: to a one hour podcast, what that did was that
- 10:51Speaker 4: gave me time to cut up that show and put
- 10:55Speaker 4: it more on social media. The Titans got mad at
- 10:58Speaker 4: me and I realized it wasn't about the content because
- 11:02Speaker 4: the content was the same. It was the fact that
- 11:05Speaker 4: I was able to put the content out there on
- 11:07Speaker 4: social media, specifically Twitter for a or X.
- 11:11Speaker 5: For a sports audience and more people saw it.
- 11:16Speaker 4: And so it's almost learning the game from that perspective
- 11:19Speaker 4: and communicating that to the athletes to say, okay, like,
- 11:23Speaker 4: what do you guys want?
- 11:25Speaker 5: Now, if you want to say this, then this can
- 11:27Speaker 5: be the outcome there.
- 11:28Speaker 4: But I look at it as like a partnership of
- 11:31Speaker 4: me and the athletes and building that brand.
- 11:34Speaker 5: And I'm pretty excited about it.
- 11:36Speaker 1: You want my theory on the whole social media thing
- 11:38Speaker 1: with the Titans?
- 11:39Speaker 3: They got pissed off.
- 11:41Speaker 2: They got worried because Amy Adams Trump can see it.
- 11:44Speaker 1: They don't want any perception of anything negative going out.
- 11:47Speaker 3: And she's on social media. Let's talk Titans here, too,
- 11:52Speaker 3: for a minute still on that point. You said on
- 11:55Speaker 3: our show that you wanted your credential back at one
- 11:57Speaker 3: point when I asked you about it. And I questioned
- 11:59Speaker 3: you and I said, you really want that credential back
- 12:02Speaker 3: after they treated you the way that they did? My
- 12:05Speaker 3: response would be F them. I'm never taking it back,
- 12:07Speaker 3: even if you offer it to me. And now I'm
- 12:09Speaker 3: going to live to give my strong opinion away from
- 12:12Speaker 3: your building because I forever will be the guy that
- 12:16Speaker 3: you booted from there when you haven't booted anyone else.
- 12:19Speaker 3: Have you changed your stance to come around to my
- 12:21Speaker 3: opinion since you said on our show that you would
- 12:23Speaker 3: take that credential back?
- 12:24Speaker 4: You know what's funny is I don't even remember saying
- 12:26Speaker 4: that on your show. Like if the Titans called me
- 12:30Speaker 4: and they said, hey, bygones are bygones and we're just
- 12:32Speaker 4: going to give it to you back. I mean, I
- 12:34Speaker 4: wouldn't say, no, I'm never stepping foot in your facility again.
- 12:38Speaker 3: But I'll raise my hand and be like, yeah, no, you,
- 12:43Speaker 3: you don't want me. I don't want you. Thanks. No, thanks.
- 12:46Speaker 3: I would go on your show and talk about it.
- 12:48Speaker 4: The way that I feel about this is like, you know,
- 12:52Speaker 4: if I worked for the local paper and this happened,
- 12:56Speaker 4: we'd have to have a meeting and it would be
- 12:59Speaker 4: the editor and it would be, you know, the PR
- 13:02Speaker 4: and comms directors.
- 13:04Speaker 5: And, you know, we'd find a solution.
- 13:08Speaker 4: When it comes to this, I almost feel like at
- 13:11Speaker 4: this point, because I have done every interview imaginable and
- 13:16Speaker 4: have not shown any remorse at all, I highly doubt
- 13:19Speaker 4: they would ever be interested in giving it back to me.
- 13:22Speaker 4: But if the idea of me going to practice or
- 13:25Speaker 4: me going to a press conference is, okay, Jared, now
- 13:30Speaker 4: you have to tone down the coverage. You have to
- 13:32Speaker 4: tone down the takes. Like, that's just not going to happen.
- 13:36Speaker 4: Even on this show, the Louisville show, which is a
- 13:40Speaker 4: Homer show. I'm a Louisville fan. I'm working with the athletes.
- 13:43Speaker 4: I'm here at the football stadium today. It is a
- 13:47Speaker 4: Homer show compared to, say, my Titan show. But if
- 13:51Speaker 4: there's talk about a coach getting fired, I'm still going
- 13:53Speaker 4: to be talking about the coach getting fired because you
- 13:56Speaker 4: can't keep me away from a conversation about the coach
- 13:59Speaker 4: getting fired. So I just kind of feel like, long
- 14:04Speaker 4: story short, If they ever wanted, if they ever reached
- 14:09Speaker 4: out to me about bringing me back into the building
- 14:11Speaker 4: so I could see practice, so I could go to
- 14:14Speaker 4: press conferences, when I choose, I'm not going every day.
- 14:17Speaker 4: There's no reason for me to talk to the coordinators,
- 14:20Speaker 4: especially when the defensive coordinator.
- 14:21Speaker 5: Doesn't call the plays. I'm not interested in that. I'm
- 14:24Speaker 5: not going to do that.
- 14:25Speaker 4: But if they were to say, hey, you're back in,
- 14:28Speaker 4: no restrictions, no nothing, but we fired the person that
- 14:32Speaker 4: got mad at you or we got rid of Cam
- 14:33Speaker 4: Ward and that was who was mad at you, OK,
- 14:36Speaker 4: if they wanted to have a meeting and they wanted
- 14:40Speaker 4: to sit there and say, OK, well, you know, now
- 14:42Speaker 4: we don't want you to curse on your show. And
- 14:45Speaker 4: we don't want you to say that Robert Salas, 20
- 14:47Speaker 4: and 38, is a head coach. And we don't want
- 14:49Speaker 4: you to tell everybody that Cam Ward sucks in June,
- 14:52Speaker 4: even though as soon as he starts playing in September,
- 14:54Speaker 4: they'll all see it. If that were the case, then
- 14:57Speaker 4: there would be no point in doing that because it's like,
- 14:59Speaker 4: you guys remember when Snoop Dogg shot all that money
- 15:01Speaker 4: into the crowd at Kansas and Jeff Long, the athletic
- 15:04Speaker 4: director at the time, was like, we didn't know that
- 15:08Speaker 4: Snoop Dogg was going to do that and bring strippers
- 15:11Speaker 4: onto his program. Well, Snoop Dogg said, when you pay
- 15:14Speaker 4: for Snoop Dogg, you're going to get Snoop Dogg. And
- 15:17Speaker 4: I feel like at this point, and this is something
- 15:19Speaker 4: I tell the players here at Louisville, when it comes
- 15:21Speaker 4: to branding, at.
- 15:22Speaker 5: This point, that's who I am. So, I mean, I can't.
- 15:26Speaker 4: Now all of a sudden turn in from Cam Ward
- 15:29Speaker 4: sucks to, boy, Miss Amy is just running a great
- 15:34Speaker 4: operation over there. That's not me. That's not my brand.
- 15:38Speaker 4: I just, I can't do it.
- 15:40Speaker 1: We're just spitballing here, but as we're talking, it's hitting me.
- 15:44Speaker 1: It's not about your access to the building. It is
- 15:48Speaker 1: social media.
- 15:49Speaker 2: It is because you name names and you name names
- 15:52Speaker 2: outside of the football department.
- 15:54Speaker 4: See, I think I believe the more I thought about
- 15:56Speaker 4: this and boy, I mean, the week that it happened,
- 15:59Speaker 4: everybody kept asking me who did it, who did it,
- 16:00Speaker 4: who did it.
- 16:01Speaker 5: And I didn't know the answer.
- 16:02Speaker 3: And how dare you hold somebody accountable? How dare you
- 16:05Speaker 3: mention a very convenient.
- 16:06Speaker 4: So, well, so Yahoo asked me, they said, who do
- 16:11Speaker 4: you think did it? And I was like, well, you know,
- 16:12Speaker 4: I don't know, but my gut would be the owner,
- 16:15Speaker 4: which at the time I thought. So Yahoo puts out there,
- 16:18Speaker 4: you know, Jared Stillman thinks it was the owner.
- 16:20Speaker 5: <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>.
- 16:22Speaker 4: <HAL> So then I had Caroline Fenton on my show
- 16:25Speaker 4: who was hosting that Yahoo show. And she said, you know,
- 16:29Speaker 4: we went through all the potential candidates of who it
- 16:31Speaker 4: could have been. And she ended up thinking that it
- 16:33Speaker 4: could have been Cam Ward's family. So I put that
- 16:36Speaker 4: out there on social media. Caroline Fenton thinks that it
- 16:39Speaker 4: was Cam.
- 16:40Speaker 5: The more I've dug into this, the more I think
- 16:42Speaker 5: it was Cam's family.
- 16:43Speaker 4: Cam's family is so... I'm getting text messages in the
- 16:48Speaker 4: middle of the night.
- 16:50Speaker 5: This happened. I am not kidding. This happened last night.
- 16:54Speaker 4: So I've gotten calls from like no caller ID a
- 16:57Speaker 4: handful of times. I got a text message from a
- 17:00Speaker 4: 404 number yesterday, which is an Atlanta area code. And
- 17:05Speaker 4: the text message was, Jared, you need to get your
- 17:08Speaker 4: phone number off the Internet, to which I didn't even
- 17:10Speaker 4: know my phone number was on the Internet. But someone said, Jared,
- 17:13Speaker 4: you need to get your phone number off the Internet.
- 17:15Speaker 4: And when I put in that phone number into a
- 17:18Speaker 4: Google search, it came back as like some sort of
- 17:22Speaker 4: like full body massage kind of thing. Like, I don't
- 17:25Speaker 4: know what it was.
- 17:27Speaker 2: But I don't, I don't know.
- 17:31Speaker 4: It must've been one of those, uh, Jed York. It
- 17:35Speaker 4: must've been one of those like apps where you can
- 17:38Speaker 4: switch your numbers around. And I don't know who did
- 17:41Speaker 4: that or whatever, but I mean, between the blocked calls
- 17:45Speaker 4: and the tech, I mean, and Quentin jammer, who's the
- 17:48Speaker 4: old NFL corner, who's camp wards, cousins blowing me up
- 17:51Speaker 4: on Twitter all the time. I personally think, and I
- 17:55Speaker 4: don't have any proof on this, but I think it
- 17:57Speaker 4: was Cam Ward's family that got.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Super- Then why hasn't Paul been banned for the same
- 18:01Speaker 1: type of question?
- 18:02Speaker 4: Because Paul is the vice president of the Pro Football
- 18:05Speaker 4: Writers Association, and if they were to do that to Paul,
- 18:09Speaker 4: it would be a much bigger story than if they
- 18:11Speaker 4: were to do that to me.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Well, I mean, there's so many– after the start of
- 18:16Speaker 1: the season, there's been so many people that are not
- 18:18Speaker 1: in the Pro Football Writers Association that's been talking. I'm
- 18:21Speaker 1: just saying, like, I don't– Cam didn't hire the offensive coordinator.
- 18:26Speaker 1: You know, didn't hire the head coach like he wanted to.
- 18:29Speaker 1: I don't think it was– I think this goes back
- 18:31Speaker 1: to you saying this team effing sucks and all this
- 18:33Speaker 1: stuff and naming names.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Inside the building.
- 18:37Speaker 3: Yeah, it's– to Hunt's point, it's like that screenshot of
- 18:40Speaker 3: this team– Effing socks that's put out there and plastered
- 18:44Speaker 3: on a graphic that they're going to run with.
- 18:47Speaker 1: You name people that I would know your reference to,
- 18:50Speaker 1: but a lot of people have never heard the names
- 18:52Speaker 1: you're naming. And I think that's interesting. Because, again, Amy
- 18:58Speaker 1: Strunk is on social media. Burke Nihill speaks for her
- 19:00Speaker 1: within the building and outside the building.
- 19:02Speaker 3: Here's what I want to normalize.
- 19:04Speaker 2: I'm fascinated by it.
- 19:05Speaker 3: To Hutton's point, if they're upset about public-facing people normally
- 19:13Speaker 3: being named. Now, and some of these people are not,
- 19:15Speaker 3: they are public facing, like a Burke Nihill. But if
- 19:18Speaker 3: they are mad that you name names of someone that
- 19:21Speaker 3: normally they're not named names, a Jared Puffer, who had
- 19:24Speaker 3: a back and forth with you as an example, right?
- 19:26Speaker 3: My stance is if you have the authority and the
- 19:29Speaker 3: power to affect someone else's job by either removing access
- 19:34Speaker 3: or kicking them out of something or firing something, then
- 19:37Speaker 3: you can face public scrutiny from that person who is
- 19:40Speaker 3: public facing. You don't get to run and hide when
- 19:43Speaker 3: you do something that could affect someone's livelihood. Now, I
- 19:46Speaker 3: think this whole thing has affected your livelihood in a
- 19:48Speaker 3: positive way. So you should probably be thanking the Titans
- 19:51Speaker 3: for doing this. But you get my point. Like, you
- 19:54Speaker 3: can't be like, hey, I want this guy out. I
- 19:56Speaker 3: have the power to do it. They're out. I'm not
- 19:58Speaker 3: saying they did that or didn't. But if you did
- 20:00Speaker 3: and then someone says, hey, I'm mad that such and
- 20:03Speaker 3: such did this to me. And then they're mad that
- 20:05Speaker 3: you said that. I mean, come on. Like, what are
- 20:07Speaker 3: we doing here? Like, you can face the heat also.
- 20:10Speaker 4: I think a lot of people like the idea of
- 20:11Speaker 4: being senior vice president more than they actually like what
- 20:14Speaker 4: comes with being senior vice president.
- 20:16Speaker 5: And life's a two-way street, you know?
- 20:18Speaker 4: So when it comes to, well, I'm the senior vice
- 20:21Speaker 4: president and today we're unveiling the new uniform. So come
- 20:24Speaker 4: interview me so I can tell you about how great
- 20:26Speaker 4: it was. Well, then when something in your department's not right,
- 20:30Speaker 4: that's who I'm going to is the person that is
- 20:33Speaker 4: supposedly in charge of something. I mean, I think when
- 20:36Speaker 4: it comes to the Titans and it comes to the people,
- 20:39Speaker 4: the names that people don't know, um, I mean, I
- 20:42Speaker 4: think that the name that people should know is, and
- 20:45Speaker 4: I think this should be part of the discussion. And
- 20:47Speaker 4: I'm not saying that Burke Nihill is the reason the
- 20:50Speaker 4: team CEO is the reason why the team sucks so bad.
- 20:53Speaker 4: But when Steve Underwood was the president of the team,
- 20:56Speaker 4: they were winning and they were headed in the right direction.
- 21:00Speaker 4: And ever since they've made that transition to Burke Nihill,
- 21:03Speaker 4: it's been one disaster after another. And while I know
- 21:06Speaker 4: Burke decided to transition from being the true president and
- 21:09Speaker 4: CEO of the team to To this more.
- 21:12Speaker 5: To getting.
- 21:13Speaker 4: People to believe that he was more stadium-oriented and more
- 21:16Speaker 4: business-oriented when it came to the Titans than he was
- 21:20Speaker 4: football-oriented with the elevation of Chad Brinker. I mean, somebody
- 21:24Speaker 4: has to be the one that is co-signing with Amy
- 21:29Speaker 4: on the decisions to elevate Chad Brinker to the president
- 21:32Speaker 4: of football operations. Or that is involved in these coaching
- 21:37Speaker 4: searches that yield these terrible candidates that they end up hiring.
- 21:40Speaker 3: Or.
- 21:41Speaker 4: So I think Burke Nihill, when it comes to him,
- 21:44Speaker 4: I mean, I think he very much is a part
- 21:48Speaker 4: of the discussion as to why this team is so bad.
- 21:51Speaker 4: And I think Burke has done a good job of
- 21:54Speaker 4: shielding himself from that criticism because of the access and power.
- 22:01Speaker 5: With which he yields.
- 22:02Speaker 4: And I like, you know, every interaction I've had with
- 22:05Speaker 4: Burke for the most part, we've had some contentious moments,
- 22:08Speaker 4: but for the most part, it's been fine. But I
- 22:10Speaker 4: think if we're really going back to why this team
- 22:13Speaker 4: is so bad, we know it's not just the coach
- 22:15Speaker 4: because they've changed coaches and they lost with Vrabel. We
- 22:18Speaker 4: know it's not just the general manager because they've changed
- 22:21Speaker 4: general managers. We know it's not just Cam Ward because
- 22:24Speaker 4: they were bad before Cam Ward.
- 22:27Speaker 5: And the one constant in this is Amy and Burke.
- 22:29Speaker 4: And I do think that if we were having a
- 22:31Speaker 4: discussion as to who's culpable for the state of the franchise,
- 22:34Speaker 4: Burke has to be a part of the discussion.
- 22:36Speaker 5: And for some reason in local circles, he absolutely is not.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Well, the structure, I don't think people realize the structure
- 22:42Speaker 1: that was set up insulates everyone at the top. There's
- 22:45Speaker 1: always an insulated job beneath them. They just rotate who
- 22:49Speaker 1: gets fired and elevated.
- 22:51Speaker 3: Someone else to be blamed at all times. There's a
- 22:55Speaker 3: cushion there for everyone.
- 22:56Speaker 1: But now the structure, Borgonzi now reports to ownership directly.
- 23:04Speaker 1: I think that's important here. The structure is how it
- 23:08Speaker 1: should be now and then how it was when they
- 23:10Speaker 1: were winning. And then they got all this insulated layers
- 23:15Speaker 1: to their organization that made no sense. They couldn't define
- 23:19Speaker 1: who was doing what, who was making the call. They
- 23:22Speaker 1: wouldn't sit there and answer that question. Berganzi was mute
- 23:26Speaker 1: whenever that question came up.
- 23:27Speaker 2: It was bizarre.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Now it doesn't have to be. I think there's clear
- 23:31Speaker 1: leadership from the football angle. But the question would be
- 23:34Speaker 1: how much is the voice of ownership overseeing everything versus
- 23:39Speaker 1: letting those guys just do football? And the other part
- 23:43Speaker 1: of this, Jared, and I know you said you defended
- 23:46Speaker 1: solid this week, which I liked. They also hired a
- 23:49Speaker 1: coach who didn't win in his previous job. So, I mean,
- 23:54Speaker 1: that's also part of it is the quarterback and the
- 23:57Speaker 1: head coach hire, of course, the offensive coordinator. But those
- 24:01Speaker 1: have to be home runs. Have to be home runs. Otherwise,
- 24:05Speaker 1: it doesn't matter who's calling the shots if you don't
- 24:08Speaker 1: have the identity that is being installed because you let
- 24:13Speaker 1: it erode over the last several seasons.
- 24:15Speaker 4: I think the biggest issue here, too, is we don't
- 24:18Speaker 4: really know who picked Cam Ward, do we? You know,
- 24:21Speaker 4: Mike Borgonzi came out and has planted his flag in
- 24:23Speaker 4: the Cam Ward camp. But Mike Borgonzi at the time
- 24:27Speaker 4: was beneath ownership and beneath Chad Brinker. And Chad Brinker
- 24:30Speaker 4: had final say over the football decisions. And if somebody
- 24:33Speaker 4: has final say over the football decisions and you have
- 24:35Speaker 4: the number one pick, I mean, that has to.
- 24:37Speaker 5: Go through all of those channels. And the owner ultimately
- 24:40Speaker 5: is the one who signs off on it.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Brinker wasn't even going to the workouts. You know, he
- 24:44Speaker 1: didn't go to the Shadoor workout.
- 24:45Speaker 2: Remember that?
- 24:46Speaker 4: I feel like when it comes to Cam Ward.
- 24:50Speaker 5: I almost wonder if that was an ownership thing.
- 24:52Speaker 4: Because the story of Cam Ward is better than Cam Ward.
- 24:58Speaker 4: The story is this zero-star recruit who persevered and was
- 25:03Speaker 4: a day-three pick and went back to college and bettered
- 25:06Speaker 4: himself and set a record at Miami and brought the
- 25:09Speaker 4: U back and all of these things. It's better than
- 25:13Speaker 4: the reality, which is an undersized, inaccurate quarterback with bad
- 25:17Speaker 4: mechanics who was selfish enough to play in the Pop-Tarts
- 25:19Speaker 4: Bowl until he set the record and then took himself out.
- 25:23Speaker 4: And the structure with which the Titans have put him
- 25:26Speaker 4: in has failed him. as much as maybe he's failed them,
- 25:30Speaker 4: but there is a percentage of this fan base that
- 25:33Speaker 4: just thinks Cam can do no wrong, and they think
- 25:35Speaker 4: Cam is going to be the next Mahomes, and they
- 25:37Speaker 4: use every quarterback in the book.
- 25:39Speaker 5: They use Josh Allen. They use Peyton Manning.
- 25:42Speaker 4: They use Geno Smith as examples.
- 25:45Speaker 5: Don't give up, Jared.
- 25:46Speaker 3: Don't.
- 25:47Speaker 5: Cam, he's the guy.
- 25:48Speaker 4: I'm like, did you not see the coach take the
- 25:51Speaker 4: ball out of his hands at the end of the
- 25:53Speaker 4: game on Sunday?
- 25:54Speaker 5: Even he knows Cam's not very good.
- 25:58Speaker 4: I wonder if the owner is the one that is,
- 26:01Speaker 4: you know, like these fans, that is obsessed with Cam Ward,
- 26:04Speaker 4: thinks he's Mahomes, and that that's why everybody there has
- 26:08Speaker 4: to say Cam's good all the time. And if you
- 26:10Speaker 4: push back on Cam in a press conference, you get
- 26:12Speaker 4: kicked out of the building.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Fair enough on that. And I would also add, go ahead, Jets.
- 26:17Speaker 3: Well, no, I was going to say there's too much
- 26:18Speaker 3: agreement going on in this discussion right now. So I've
- 26:21Speaker 3: got a bone to pick with you, Jared, on something
- 26:23Speaker 3: you tweeted. You tweeted a day ago. I'm not giving
- 26:27Speaker 3: up on Carnell Tate. I don't think he's been good
- 26:30Speaker 3: by any means, and we want to see it because
- 26:32Speaker 3: he was the fourth pick. But I never saw from
- 26:34Speaker 3: Corey Davis or other receivers that didn't pan out what
- 26:37Speaker 3: I saw from Tate in OTAs and practice. I still believe.
- 26:44Speaker 3: If anybody else in Titans media was going to be
- 26:47Speaker 3: hyping up OTAs and practice for the fourth overall pick
- 26:52Speaker 3: who has done absolutely nothing, Through the first two games
- 26:55Speaker 3: of the NFL, you would be all over that person
- 26:58Speaker 3: for relying on what you saw in OTAs in practice.
- 27:00Speaker 3: Please explain, Jared.
- 27:01Speaker 4: Okay, so I want to go back to something that
- 27:03Speaker 4: I randomly saw yesterday, actually, which was a rant from
- 27:07Speaker 4: your former partner called Paul Kaharski. about me on my
- 27:11Speaker 4: old radio station when I was still on my old
- 27:13Speaker 4: radio station. It was a two-minute rant where Kaharski was
- 27:15Speaker 4: yelling and screaming because it was OTAs of 2024, and
- 27:21Speaker 4: I was upset about the fact that Legereus Sneed was
- 27:23Speaker 4: not practicing and that Tavondre Sweat was not practicing. Two
- 27:26Speaker 4: guys that the Titans acquired, one via the draft, one
- 27:30Speaker 4: via technically a trade, but a free agent addition, basically,
- 27:33Speaker 4: and both with huge risks and huge red flags, and
- 27:37Speaker 4: they didn't partake in OTAs. And I went nuts. And
- 27:42Speaker 4: Kaharski went on this rant about how, you know.
- 27:47Speaker 5: Oh, it's OTAs. It's May. It's June. It doesn't mean anything.
- 27:51Speaker 5: He's just trying to stir the bodies.
- 27:54Speaker 4: And I would say that, no, that foreshadowed what Sneed
- 27:59Speaker 4: and Sweat were for the Titans.
- 28:02Speaker 5: I went to OTAs.
- 28:04Speaker 4: And I saw Cam Ward had not improved his footwork
- 28:07Speaker 4: whatsoever from last year to this year.
- 28:09Speaker 5: He was missing, guys.
- 28:11Speaker 4: He threw a check down so far over Tony Pollard's
- 28:14Speaker 4: head that I turned around and I said to Easton Freeze,
- 28:17Speaker 4: who was standing next to me, Cam Ward's pass incomplete
- 28:20Speaker 4: intended for Victor Wimpinyama because that's how much he overshot
- 28:25Speaker 4: Tony Pollard by. And you guys know that after that practice,
- 28:29Speaker 4: I came down my show and I said, bust. I said,
- 28:32Speaker 4: he's a bust. He hasn't improved. And all of the
- 28:35Speaker 4: local media said, it's June. We don't take too much
- 28:39Speaker 4: out of OTAs. Well, if you're not good in OTAs,
- 28:43Speaker 4: then you're not going to be good in the game.
- 28:45Speaker 4: It would be like putting me out there in OTAs.
- 28:48Speaker 5: I'm not good, so I wouldn't be very good.
- 28:49Speaker 3: Your argument, though, Jared, it sounds a lot like Cam
- 28:52Speaker 3: Ward when he's telling everybody, you guys didn't see what
- 28:55Speaker 3: we just did against the Seahawks in practice. My God,
- 28:58Speaker 3: we put on a show. We showed them who their
- 29:00Speaker 3: daddy was. It was belt to ass in that practice.
- 29:03Speaker 3: And then they get out there in the game and
- 29:04Speaker 3: they suck. against the backups for Seattle. And I'm pretty
- 29:07Speaker 3: sure you probably came back and said, why is this
- 29:10Speaker 3: not lining up? Well, why do all the game film
- 29:12Speaker 3: and all the preseason games look so bad? I saw it.
- 29:16Speaker 3: This is true for Carnell Tate. Now you're going back
- 29:18Speaker 3: and saying, I believe in him because this guy's great
- 29:21Speaker 3: in practice. He was great in OTAs and great in practice.
- 29:24Speaker 3: He's going to be fine.
- 29:26Speaker 5: I lost it when they drafted him.
- 29:27Speaker 3: Very selective by you on this one with Cam Ward
- 29:30Speaker 3: and Carnell Tate is.
- 29:31Speaker 2: All I'm saying.
- 29:31Speaker 4: I lost it when they drafted him because he ran
- 29:33Speaker 4: a 4.52 at the combine and Floyd Reese, you know,
- 29:36Speaker 4: cared a lot about the 40 time. That's what I
- 29:38Speaker 4: learned growing up. So I, so I didn't like it
- 29:41Speaker 4: when they drafted him. And I went out there for
- 29:43Speaker 4: OTAs and I went out there and watched him catch
- 29:46Speaker 4: a ball. And it was like, he had magnets in
- 29:48Speaker 4: his hand and the ball just melted in his hand,
- 29:51Speaker 4: like butter. And his route running was so beautiful. It
- 29:54Speaker 4: was like watching a gazelle. And so even though he
- 29:57Speaker 4: has stunk, in all of the public showings that he
- 30:00Speaker 4: has had in terms of production, I still believe, and
- 30:04Speaker 4: I'm not going to say, like, I'm not, I don't
- 30:06Speaker 4: think they should bench Cam because I do think that
- 30:09Speaker 4: they need to see if Cam can make the jump.
- 30:12Speaker 5: I don't think Cam can make the jump, but, you know,
- 30:15Speaker 5: at this point.
- 30:15Speaker 2: It's an indictment on Brian Dable if they bench him
- 30:18Speaker 2: right now.
- 30:19Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, at this point, like, Mitch Trubisky is
- 30:22Speaker 4: not Tannehill, and Cam still, you know, we got to
- 30:25Speaker 4: see a little bit more. But do you guys remember
- 30:28Speaker 4: how much better Ryan Tannehill showing up made absolutely everybody?
- 30:33Speaker 5: It was like.
- 30:34Speaker 4: Immediately, oh, a real quarterback came in, with all due
- 30:37Speaker 4: respect to Mariota, who I liked a lot, but just
- 30:40Speaker 4: he wasn't very good. Tannehill came in, and all of
- 30:42Speaker 4: a sudden, Jonu Smith was a much better tight end.
- 30:46Speaker 4: And the offensive line, much better offensive line.
- 30:50Speaker 5: And A.J. Brown, much better receiver.
- 30:54Speaker 4: Anthony Ferkser, much better with Tannehill. I believe that if
- 30:58Speaker 4: Ryan Tannehill showed up tomorrow, we would see a different
- 31:01Speaker 4: Carnell Tate. We would probably see a different Calvin Ridley.
- 31:05Speaker 4: We'd probably see a different offensive line. I think that
- 31:10Speaker 4: the reason that I still believe in Tate is because
- 31:12Speaker 4: I've seen the talent from Tate. I think he's got it.
- 31:14Speaker 4: And I just don't trust the guy who's throwing him
- 31:16Speaker 4: the ball. Even though Tate did have a drop that
- 31:19Speaker 4: hit him right in the hands on Sunday.
- 31:21Speaker 1: I trust him, Chad, because he went to Ohio State
- 31:24Speaker 1: and they have a huge success rate.
- 31:26Speaker 3: Yeah, look, I don't have a problem with you not
- 31:28Speaker 3: giving up on Carnell Tate or anybody. I still believe
- 31:32Speaker 3: he could be a really good NFL receiver. My point is,
- 31:35Speaker 3: if Easton Freeze posted that.
- 31:38Speaker 4: I was about to say, if it was Easton Freeze
- 31:41Speaker 4: who said it.
- 31:42Speaker 3: Guys, guys, guys. I mean, I always sucked, and he's
- 31:45Speaker 3: the fourth overall pick, but I saw this guy's body
- 31:48Speaker 3: lean in OTAs, and I'm telling you, he is a
- 31:51Speaker 3: Hall of Fame wide receiver, and he is a star
- 31:53Speaker 3: in this league. That's my only point is, I don't
- 31:56Speaker 3: disagree with you, by the way, but you're being hypocritical
- 32:00Speaker 3: because you would pounce on any other media member that
- 32:02Speaker 3: said that. You'd pounce on Paul if he said that.
- 32:05Speaker 3: After two weeks, I'm sure. But that also is the
- 32:07Speaker 3: name of the game, so I get it.
- 32:08Speaker 4: To your point, I don't know why this was a
- 32:12Speaker 4: discussion in May when I was at the Boston airport,
- 32:14Speaker 4: but I was texting Easton Freeze.
- 32:17Speaker 5: And I said, why do you people think Cam.
- 32:19Speaker 4: Ward is so good when by every metric last year
- 32:23Speaker 4: he wasn't good? And Easton texted me back and said
- 32:26Speaker 4: the eye test. And I have texted him every week.
- 32:29Speaker 4: You know, the preseason games, the Jets game, last week
- 32:34Speaker 4: when he had six yards passing before the last drive
- 32:37Speaker 4: of the second quarter. And I said, how's the old
- 32:41Speaker 4: eye test safe for Cam Ward, Easton?
- 32:42Speaker 3: Oh, the eye test.
- 32:45Speaker 1: Jared, always good to catch up with you, bro. Congrats
- 32:48Speaker 1: on the new podcast. Loving the college football show as well. And,
- 32:51Speaker 1: of course, Stillman & Company crushing it. I love the open.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Never change the open with the ban by the Tennessee Titans.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Well done, man.
- 33:02Speaker 5: Guys, thank you.
- 33:03Speaker 4: I actually was listening to Sport and State on my
- 33:05Speaker 4: way up here yesterday. I've been a huge fan of
- 33:07Speaker 4: the podcast. And I love what you guys have on
- 33:11Speaker 4: the pod. I'm going to do a little advertisement for
- 33:12Speaker 4: your pod.
- 33:13Speaker 2: Go ahead.
- 33:15Speaker 4: If there's something you'd rather listen to, like it's all
- 33:18Speaker 4: chaptered out to where you can just click like the
- 33:21Speaker 4: content that you guys are talking about. Like for me yesterday,
- 33:24Speaker 4: driving up, I wanted to hear your Titans content more
- 33:27Speaker 4: than your college football stuff. So on the podcast, I
- 33:30Speaker 4: was just, Oh, Hey, they talk about, uh, Eagle fans
- 33:33Speaker 4: taking over the stadium.
- 33:34Speaker 5: Click.
- 33:35Speaker 4: Oh, Hey, they talked about, and you guys know this
- 33:38Speaker 4: as well as anybody. Cause I think you guys were
- 33:40Speaker 4: ahead of the curve by about two years, uh, The
- 33:44Speaker 4: radio and the, hey, I need you to watch this
- 33:47Speaker 4: at this time.
- 33:48Speaker 5: Unless it's a game.
- 33:50Speaker 4: Nobody cares about that anymore. Everybody's watching. Everybody's listening on
- 33:54Speaker 4: their own time. This is not election night. This is
- 33:59Speaker 4: not the Super Bowl. So everybody is doing things on
- 34:03Speaker 4: their own schedule. And I absolutely love the ease with
- 34:06Speaker 4: which on Apple Podcasts I can get the content you
- 34:09Speaker 4: guys have that I love. So just kudos to you
- 34:11Speaker 4: and your team and everything that you guys have done
- 34:13Speaker 4: here at Sporting State.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Thank you. Thank you, Stillman.
- 34:15Speaker 3: Very kind of you and a big fan of yours
- 34:17Speaker 3: and what you're doing also. And by the way, I
- 34:19Speaker 3: know exactly what you're talking about. And I love it
- 34:21Speaker 3: because I listen to a television podcast and you can
- 34:25Speaker 3: go to I just go to the show recaps that
- 34:27Speaker 3: I'm watching. So there will be three shows they're talking
- 34:30Speaker 3: about I've never seen an episode of and don't care about.
- 34:32Speaker 3: But when they review the latest episode of Lanterns on HBO,
- 34:36Speaker 3: which I am watching with Kyle Chandler and I love it,
- 34:38Speaker 3: then I'll go to their recap of that show. And
- 34:41Speaker 3: you can go to the marker on the pod and
- 34:43Speaker 3: it labels it, okay, the next nine minutes are about this.
- 34:46Speaker 3: So I'm completely with you on that. And I think
- 34:49Speaker 3: you and I talked about it. Sport and State, I think,
- 34:52Speaker 3: is a more fun version of OutKick. At this point.
- 34:56Speaker 3: That's kind of what we're doing, right? It's more Southern.
- 34:59Speaker 3: It's more fun-loving. And that's what we love here on
- 35:02Speaker 3: this show and love having you on the show. Thank
- 35:04Speaker 3: you so much, man.
- 35:04Speaker 2: Hashtag you people.
- 35:07Speaker 5: See you guys.
- 35:08Speaker 3: Yes. Do not tweet us about saying you people. That
- 35:12Speaker 3: was Jared Stillman who said, why do you people always
- 35:16Speaker 3: talk about the eye test or say that KM Ward
- 35:18Speaker 3: is good? Great line from him. And he would absolutely
- 35:20Speaker 3: destroy Easton Freed's.
- 35:23Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 35:24Speaker 2: He would. He would.
- 35:25Speaker 3: If he said something like, guys, he sucks in games,
- 35:28Speaker 3: but this guy's going to be good because of what
- 35:30Speaker 3: I saw in OTAs in practice. That dude was a
- 35:32Speaker 3: magnet for the ball. He caught everything. And I'm thinking,
- 35:35Speaker 3: anybody else says that, Stillman is all over them. And
- 35:38Speaker 3: by the way, I don't disagree with him. I still
- 35:40Speaker 3: think Carnell Tate could be very good. I'm not giving
- 35:43Speaker 3: up on the guy yet. I know what you're saying, though.
- 35:45Speaker 3: But he's not good enough. I mean, he's also another
- 35:47Speaker 3: in line of Titans that just aren't good enough. Jeffrey Simmons–
- 35:52Speaker 3: Not good enough right now. Very good player. Don't be
- 35:55Speaker 3: gesturing to the crowd before the game's over, telling them
- 35:59Speaker 3: to SMD while grabbing yourself. You've got to be better, too.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Right after they took the lead, yeah.
- 36:07Speaker 3: When you're about to go back on the field, by
- 36:08Speaker 3: the way, dude, and have to stop Jalen Hurts.
- 36:11Speaker 2: He's been dominant, dude.
- 36:12Speaker 1: He has been dominant, but no one else is taking
- 36:15Speaker 1: on that attitude defensively.
- 36:18Speaker 2: They are just getting.
- 36:20Speaker 1: When they took the ball over Philadelphia, we knew they
- 36:23Speaker 1: were going to go down the score.
- 36:25Speaker 2: We knew.
- 36:26Speaker 1: Coming up, our Hard Rock Locks. Will any of us
- 36:29Speaker 1: take Titans-Giants in some way? That's next here on Hutton & Withrow.
- 36:34Speaker 1: It's Hutton & Withrow presented by Hard Rock Bet. Hardrock.bet.com
- 36:40Speaker 1: is where you go to take advantage of the new

- 36:46Speaker 1: hardrock.bet slash clay. Download the app now, hardrock.bet slash clay. Chad,
- 36:52Speaker 1: this is the week. This is the week where we
- 36:55Speaker 1: can lock it in. And we tell everyone, join us
- 36:59Speaker 1: for our Hard Rock Lock of the Week. I'm kicking
- 37:02Speaker 1: things off here. I'm taking Oregon and USC, the over 62.5.
- 37:08Speaker 2: And here's why.
- 37:11Speaker 1: We saw that Oklahoma State put up 550 yards on Oregon.
- 37:16Speaker 1: Rutgers just put up over 450 yards against USC's defense.
- 37:21Speaker 1: USC with 12 touchdown passes on the season. Oregon scored
- 37:25Speaker 1: 84 last week. I don't care who they're playing, 84
- 37:29Speaker 1: stands out to me. Do I think both teams can
- 37:32Speaker 1: score in the 30s?
- 37:33Speaker 2: Yes.
- 37:33Speaker 1: So I'm taking the over 62.5 as my hard rock.
- 37:36Speaker 2: Lock of the week.
- 37:38Speaker 3: I like it. We're about to go 2-0 this week.
- 37:40Speaker 3: I can feel it in my loins when I look
- 37:43Speaker 3: at these games. I looked at two different Big Ten
- 37:47Speaker 3: road underdogs to cover. Actually, sorry, two road favorites to
- 37:53Speaker 3: cover the spread. I looked at Nebraska at Michigan State,
- 37:56Speaker 3: and I think it's now minus 6.5 or minus 6
- 37:59Speaker 3: for Nebraska. I think Nebraska wins that game comfortably. I
- 38:01Speaker 3: don't think Michigan State is very good. The other one
- 38:04Speaker 3: I looked at is the one I'm going to go
- 38:05Speaker 3: with on my lock.
- 38:07Speaker 2: UCLA.
- 38:08Speaker 3: Going to College Park to take on Maryland, a one-and-a-half
- 38:12Speaker 3: point favorite. Look, I know this game's early in the day,
- 38:14Speaker 3: and it's way early West Coast time for UCLA. I
- 38:18Speaker 3: know about travel and all of that. I think UCLA's
- 38:21Speaker 3: flat out better than Maryland. I think that UCLA is
- 38:25Speaker 3: going to do to Mike Loxley and Maryland what they
- 38:27Speaker 3: did to James Franklin and Penn State a year ago,
- 38:30Speaker 3: which was start the line, or maybe even end it,
- 38:34Speaker 3: to fire the head coach. UCLA and Nico, they're going
- 38:38Speaker 3: to go to College Park. They're going to win by
- 38:40Speaker 3: more than one and a half. Give me UCLA as
- 38:42Speaker 3: a slight road favorite to cover in the Big Ten.
- 38:47Speaker 3: I also, just for a second here, when I did
- 38:48Speaker 3: look hard at taking Nebraska at Michigan State this week
- 38:52Speaker 3: in their Big Ten opener, but I'm going UCLA on
- 38:55Speaker 3: this one. Let's go two and up. Let's go two
- 38:57Speaker 3: and up.
- 38:57Speaker 2: Absolutely, let's do it.
- 38:58Speaker 1: I considered Indiana 20 and a half against Northwestern.
- 39:03Speaker 2: I mean, that.
- 39:05Speaker 1: I haven't thought about Indiana this season, and I'm going,
- 39:08Speaker 1: come on. This is the team that's trying to run
- 39:11Speaker 1: it back, and they're looking for a statement game. This
- 39:15Speaker 1: is the first one they'll have the opportunity to use.
- 39:17Speaker 1: I didn't take that. I'm going with the over in
- 39:19Speaker 1: USC and.
- 39:22Speaker 2: Oregon.
- 39:23Speaker 1: It's going to be a home game for Oregon. I
- 39:25Speaker 1: fully expect Oregon fans to take it.
- 39:27Speaker 3: They're going to show out, Oregon fans. Two other ones
- 39:29Speaker 3: in the state of Kentucky I looked at. Kentucky minus
- 39:32Speaker 3: 20.5 against South Alabama. I feel like Kentucky's not going
- 39:35Speaker 3: to have a letdown after that big win at A & M.
- 39:37Speaker 3: They're going to win by three touchdowns or more. We
- 39:40Speaker 3: just had Jared Stillman on. Louisville's 13.5 point favorite over
- 39:43Speaker 3: Wake Forest at home. And I think both games, it's
- 39:46Speaker 3: kind of a rat poison week for both. I think
- 39:49Speaker 3: going into that game with Louisville with a big win
- 39:51Speaker 3: over SMU, Kentucky with a big win over A & M,
- 39:54Speaker 3: that's why those lines are reflective of that. They're going
- 39:56Speaker 3: to have a bit of an emotional letdown in those games.
- 39:59Speaker 3: I like both to cover the spread in those games.
- 40:04Speaker 3: I would probably lean Louisville if I was going to
- 40:06Speaker 3: take one or the other. But again, for the Hard
- 40:09Speaker 3: Rock Locks segment of this, I'm going UCLA as the lock.
- 40:13Speaker 3: but I'd really do like those other plays as well.
- 40:15Speaker 1: On Sunday, I had the Vols at 7.5, and it's
- 40:19Speaker 1: down to 4.5 right now at hardrock.net.
- 40:23Speaker 3: I don't think it's going to go back up either.
- 40:25Speaker 3: I think it's going to be 3, 3.5 by kickoff.
- 40:27Speaker 3: I think it will continue to swing towards Tennessee on
- 40:31Speaker 3: that line. Hey, Hutton, real quick.
- 40:33Speaker 2: Yes, yes.
- 40:33Speaker 3: I want to give a shout-out to my dad, Tom. Absolutely.
- 40:37Speaker 3: Had a big surgery this week. He had a kidney removed.
- 40:39Speaker 3: He had cancer on his kidney. He's in recovery right
- 40:42Speaker 3: now at home. He's watching the show. My dad has
- 40:46Speaker 3: one of the best senses of humor that you're ever
- 40:48Speaker 3: going to find with any human being. And his defense
- 40:52Speaker 3: mechanism is to always laugh and make fun of himself
- 40:55Speaker 3: and have a sense of humor about it. So much
- 40:57Speaker 3: so that he was being wheeled back into the recovery
- 40:59Speaker 3: room at his hospital room. And me and my mom
- 41:02Speaker 3: and my brother and my uncle, his twin brother were
- 41:06Speaker 3: waiting on him to get wheeled back in the room.
- 41:08Speaker 3: And I didn't even think he was conscious. You know,
- 41:09Speaker 3: he's so groggy from having a kidney removed right before
- 41:12Speaker 3: this walks in and kind of barely opens his eyes
- 41:15Speaker 3: and looks at me and says, uh, Hey bud, be
- 41:18Speaker 3: careful where you sit. I think I lost a kidney.
- 41:21Speaker 3: And I'm thinking that's, that's Tom Withrow right there for you.
- 41:24Speaker 3: The dude's making a joke half in on anesthesia, just
- 41:27Speaker 3: having a kidney removed. Um, but, uh, God is good.
- 41:32Speaker 2: He's good. I'm glad everything went okay.
- 41:35Speaker 3: Thanks to you guys for checking in on him and
- 41:37Speaker 3: everybody that's been checking on him. But my dad is home.
- 41:41Speaker 3: He's watching the show. He was originally watching Monday's show.
- 41:44Speaker 3: Cause he didn't get a chance to see that because
- 41:46Speaker 3: he was under anesthesia.
- 41:47Speaker 2: Watch them all. Yeah.
- 41:48Speaker 3: Look, we'll take a view. However we can get it.
- 41:50Speaker 2: Watch them all.
- 41:51Speaker 3: Monday shows getting pumped up with the views. I heard
- 41:54Speaker 3: something about Monday show that he liked and I'm thinking
- 41:56Speaker 3: that's not the right show. You're not watching today's, but
- 41:59Speaker 3: I've been told he is watching today. So shout out
- 42:01Speaker 3: Tom Withrow the best and wishing him a speedy recovery.
- 42:06Speaker 2: Absolutely. And I'm glad to hear that.
- 42:08Speaker 1: And hopefully I get to see him soon. Isn't it
- 42:12Speaker 1: just incredible. And I've, Seriously, like how routine some of
- 42:16Speaker 1: these operations are now?
- 42:18Speaker 3: And a robot did it.
- 42:19Speaker 1: Like you hear about it and it's just like, it's
- 42:21Speaker 1: nuts what we are able to do.
- 42:25Speaker 3: It's crazy. And it was a robotic surgery.
- 42:28Speaker 5: Wow.
- 42:28Speaker 3: And even the incisions, like there's three dots around the
- 42:32Speaker 3: kidney and then there's like one four inch incision. And
- 42:36Speaker 3: that four inch incision is where the kidney was pulled
- 42:39Speaker 3: from the body. And then they, I mean, that's it.
- 42:42Speaker 3: Like it's not a lot. It's two to four hours
- 42:46Speaker 3: when it's a partial removal, when they're removing and they're
- 42:49Speaker 3: having to repair tissue that's on the remainder of the kidney.
- 42:52Speaker 3: When it is a clean kidney removal, just taking the
- 42:54Speaker 3: whole thing out, I think it was done in an hour,
- 42:58Speaker 3: maybe a little bit less.
- 42:59Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 42:59Speaker 3: From the moment they took him back to surgery and
- 43:01Speaker 3: then maybe another hour and a half that he was
- 43:04Speaker 3: in the actual recovery room before they took him to
- 43:06Speaker 3: his hospital room for the night. And my dad, who
- 43:08Speaker 3: is 82 years old, was released the next day. He
- 43:11Speaker 3: was doing so well. It's supposed to be two to
- 43:13Speaker 3: three days in the hospital. He was home the next
- 43:16Speaker 3: afternoon after having it done the evening before. So it's
- 43:20Speaker 3: crazy what they can do now with robots. I know
- 43:22Speaker 3: this doesn't surprise anyone in the technology field.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Are we surprised that he went home the next day?
- 43:28Speaker 1: I mean, the Withrow men get it done.
- 43:30Speaker 3: He was also ready to get to that recliner to
- 43:32Speaker 3: watch this show and watch reruns of Walker, Texas Ranger,
- 43:36Speaker 3: and whatever it is they do. During the day. Two
- 43:38Speaker 3: and a half men reruns, probably. I'm trying to think
- 43:41Speaker 3: of what's rolling at the Withrow House once this show ends.
- 43:43Speaker 3: But I know he's watching this show right now.
- 43:46Speaker 1: Coming up tomorrow, Lance Taylor will join us from Next
- 43:49Speaker 1: Round Live. We're looking forward to that. We're going to
- 43:51Speaker 1: prop it like it's hot. The fastest growing segment with
- 43:55Speaker 1: Hard Rock. Looking forward to seeing what props we're going
- 43:58Speaker 1: to hit on. We nearly, last week, hit on our bundle.
- 44:04Speaker 1: Thanks to me, we didn't. Saquon got hurt in the
- 44:07Speaker 1: first play wearing one of those neck roll things.
- 44:12Speaker 2: Crazy.
- 44:13Speaker 1: We're going to hit this week. This is a winning week,
- 44:17Speaker 1: including in Knoxville. Chad, you'll be there for a big
- 44:19Speaker 1: party on Friday. It's going to be a blast. Yes,
- 44:22Speaker 1: this Friday night, Dixieland Delight Friday night. Live show with myself,
- 44:27Speaker 1: Kelly Stewart, Ariel Epstein, Levi Clark. Excuse me, let's say
- 44:31Speaker 1: Levi Brown. It's a different person I know. Levi Clark,
- 44:33Speaker 1: catcher for the Tennessee Vols, will be there live also.
- 44:36Speaker 1: Big thanks to Mark Jernigan and Wagon Wheel for hosting us.
- 44:38Speaker 1: 8.15 Eastern time. If you're in town, already heard from
- 44:42Speaker 1: a bunch of you. Come on out to Wagon Wheel.
- 44:45Speaker 3: Hang out with us. May even be a special appearance
- 44:47Speaker 3: by Clay Travis at some point during that show. We're
- 44:50Speaker 3: going to have a blast. It's a huge weekend. You're
- 44:53Speaker 3: not getting around that town with ease anyway, so come
- 44:57Speaker 3: just in bed with us at Wagon Wheel. We're going
- 44:59Speaker 3: to be there throughout the night. We're going to have
- 45:00Speaker 3: a big time, and that show is going to be
- 45:02Speaker 3: a lot of fun.
- 45:03Speaker 2: You could be like them and enter Knoxville on Friday.
- 45:06Speaker 2: We will. Just stay up. Just all the way through.
- 45:09Speaker 2: Get ready for Neyland. We might. The noon show.
- 45:12Speaker 1: Eastern kickoff. Hey, enjoy the rest of the Sporting States slate.
- 45:16Speaker 1: We're back at it tomorrow morning right here with Hudson Withrow.
