New NASA renderings show Earth as lumpy
The viral "lumpy potato" images do not represent Earth’s actual physical shape; rather, they are a 10,000x exaggerated visualization of Earth’s invisible gravity field, known as a geoid. Released by NASA's Scientific Visualization Studio, this model illustrates how the ocean's surface would warp if it were only shaped by gravity and the planet's rotation—completely free from tides, winds, or currents.
