- 0:09Speaker 3: The World's a vaginal podcast.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:19Speaker 3: In other Miami news, the owner is selling I think
- 0:23Speaker 3: eighteen percent of the team.
- 0:24Speaker 4: Oh is it?
- 0:25Speaker 5: I didn't know that.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Yeah, so interested.
- 0:27Speaker 3: I'm still trying to buy a TV. You think the
- 0:29Speaker 3: Crafts would give me a piece of this team when
- 0:31Speaker 3: I retire.
- 0:33Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean it's not really that bad.
- 0:36Speaker 3: A lot of calls, a lot of emails. People are excited.
- 0:39Speaker 3: I think it's because of the picks, but I'm not sure.
- 0:42Speaker 5: I'm disappointed that some people sort of questioned his loyalty.
- 0:46Speaker 6: I de escalated. I'm tossing the grenade.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Yeah, so, I noticed you came in here without your
- 0:53Speaker 3: little windbreaker, he said. My three favorite aspects of Evan
- 0:56Speaker 3: returning from practice when Evan is put on the spot
- 0:59Speaker 3: and asked to settle on argument from earlier in the
- 1:01Speaker 3: show you a lot. Patriots are gonna shock the world
- 1:05Speaker 3: this week, and they're gonna score twenty one points. This
- 1:09Speaker 3: is Patriot's.
- 1:10Speaker 7: Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website for deals by a
- 1:14Speaker 7: Toyota dot com.
- 1:17Speaker 3: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:20Speaker 3: at ji Lets Stadium, another episode of your favorite podcast
- 1:25Speaker 3: having to do with the New England Patriots. We're here
- 1:27Speaker 3: for the next two hours. It's Evan, it's Paul, it's me,
- 1:29Speaker 3: it's Deuce, it's Matt and Nabooth. And yeah, things aren't
- 1:36Speaker 3: good in Patriots Nation. I can tell you that that
- 1:40Speaker 3: was a that was a to say it's a winnable game,
- 1:43Speaker 3: I think is an understatement, and they blew that one.
- 1:47Speaker 3: And I don't know if historic fashion is the right word,
- 1:49Speaker 3: but in ugly fashion. Uh. And then you know, things
- 1:54Speaker 3: are happening and oh, it's just not good. And and
- 1:58Speaker 3: then I can all I can say is at least
- 1:59Speaker 3: we're not the Jet right.
- 2:01Speaker 8: Well, we still have a head coach.
- 2:02Speaker 3: I guess right. Some people would with the emails that
- 2:07Speaker 3: we're getting, people are losing confident. Well, patience is a
- 2:12Speaker 3: good word, and I would say confidence, Uh, you know,
- 2:19Speaker 3: I mean the hope, Like what again, I've said this
- 2:22Speaker 3: a couple of weeks ago. What were you really hoping
- 2:24Speaker 3: for this this year? You know?
- 2:26Speaker 5: So that's accurate to me in terms of the record
- 2:30Speaker 5: you know, like one in four. It's probably not completely
- 2:35Speaker 5: you know, unexpected by a lot of people, right, but
- 2:38Speaker 5: I think you can expect more than the performance than
- 2:40Speaker 5: they put on Sunday now, more than you know, fourteen penalties,
- 2:43Speaker 5: twelve accepted, you know, not being able to muster more
- 2:47Speaker 5: than ten points most, I mean, twelve point four points
- 2:50Speaker 5: per game. I think you could have reasonably expected more
- 2:52Speaker 5: than that. Yeah, some of those things.
- 2:54Speaker 3: Yeah, they dropped the ball at least not actually Remondre
- 3:01Speaker 3: didn't have a fumboat for the first time. I mean,
- 3:03Speaker 3: but they dropped the ball.
- 3:04Speaker 5: How you guys feel it almost kind of feels worse
- 3:06Speaker 5: that they're really not turning the ball over and looking
- 3:09Speaker 5: this bad.
- 3:09Speaker 8: Right, Yeah, yeah, do you know what I mean?
- 3:11Speaker 5: I know that sounds silly, like why would you say
- 3:13Speaker 5: it's it's worse they.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Want excuse for losing.
- 3:16Speaker 5: Yeah, look, jeez, if you could just hold out of
- 3:17Speaker 5: the ball and not hand them points, we'd be winning
- 3:20Speaker 5: these games. Well, we're not handing anyone any points. Well
- 3:23Speaker 5: with turnovers, we're handing opportunities, right, but not with turnovers.
- 3:27Speaker 8: Yeah, I think that first game made you think that
- 3:29Speaker 8: maybe this is a team that you know, we of
- 3:31Speaker 8: course talked about the sustainability of playing that way, but
- 3:33Speaker 8: at least it felt like they're all on the same page.
- 3:36Speaker 8: They're not going to make like the terrible mistakes, and
- 3:38Speaker 8: you know, I think some of those things have really
- 3:40Speaker 8: started to pop up the last couple of weeks where
- 3:42Speaker 8: that's that's that's killing them. They can't they're not talented.
- 3:45Speaker 3: They cannot afford it. I mean, to me, the one
- 3:48Speaker 3: that I just keep going over is the twelve man
- 3:50Speaker 3: penalty on the fourth kind of stuff, you know, just
- 3:53Speaker 3: like you can't and I know what to give the
- 3:55Speaker 3: other team a secondary.
- 3:57Speaker 5: And it didn't cost them anything because Gonzales makes the
- 4:00Speaker 5: couple of plays later, but it's still indicative of the
- 4:03Speaker 5: things that they're doing that are so preventable.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Yeah, it has.
- 4:07Speaker 5: Nothing to do with talent, you know, going back to
- 4:09Speaker 5: my Austin Hooper, you know, refrain from the training camp.
- 4:12Speaker 5: You know, you want to be a track team, you
- 4:14Speaker 5: want these are all preventable. Thing doesn't take talent to
- 4:17Speaker 5: stay on side, to know you're supposed to be out
- 4:19Speaker 5: there off off the field at that time. Whatever.
- 4:21Speaker 8: Even the elis pass interference one. I mean, that was
- 4:24Speaker 8: devastating and I mean, again, it's a third and long.
- 4:26Speaker 8: I mean, even if the guy catches a situation attack.
- 4:30Speaker 6: It seemed like there was a miscommunication of who had who.
- 4:33Speaker 6: It's it's man to man coverage, and we don't know
- 4:35Speaker 6: who's on which guy. You know, who's got the tight end,
- 4:38Speaker 6: who's got the back, And so then he gets over
- 4:41Speaker 6: there late and ton Ley throws right at him and
- 4:44Speaker 6: he was just completely a mess on the play.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Yeah, you know. And and and you got Kean White,
- 4:49Speaker 3: who's now giveth and taking away. It reminds me of
- 4:52Speaker 3: that game that Zay Flowers had last year for the Ravens,
- 4:55Speaker 3: where he had some great plays and then he had
- 4:57Speaker 3: some bonehead plays that hurt the team and you known'
- 5:00Speaker 3: you know, with Barmore out. Uh, you know, Keon White
- 5:05Speaker 3: is like, we're he's been thrust into this position of
- 5:08Speaker 3: having to make these plays. I don't think he's ready
- 5:10Speaker 3: for that yet. And maybe he's just just going overboard
- 5:14Speaker 3: and and and you know, I wouldn't say trying too hard,
- 5:17Speaker 3: but just kind of not staying within himself. Yeah, you know.
- 5:21Speaker 8: So it's frustrating because I felt like, personally, looking back
- 5:25Speaker 8: at it, I saw some strides of him maintaining pocket
- 5:27Speaker 8: integrity and you know, not being a bull in the
- 5:30Speaker 8: china shop. But again, it's it's just the inconsistency. It's
- 5:33Speaker 8: the same thing across the board. One play it's this guy.
- 5:36Speaker 8: The other play it's this guy. One play, the protection's okay.
- 5:38Speaker 8: The next play Jacoby Brissett is missing a layup. You know,
- 5:41Speaker 8: it's just around and around.
- 5:42Speaker 5: You go, yeah, it's a good point yep.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:46Speaker 5: So well, we do this all the time on Tuesdays,
- 5:48Speaker 5: like we get to talk on the post game show.
- 5:50Speaker 5: I don't anything nothing since Thursday.
- 5:57Speaker 6: I would just say, you know, the biggest thing that
- 5:59Speaker 6: I that I see right now is that there's guys,
- 6:02Speaker 6: and we were talking about this a little bit off
- 6:04Speaker 6: the air deuce, that they've lost the layer of top
- 6:09Speaker 6: players here and there's guys that are in positions that
- 6:12Speaker 6: are probably a little bit above where they should be
- 6:16Speaker 6: on the pecking order.
- 6:17Speaker 3: You know.
- 6:18Speaker 6: Keon White's a great example, like if Christian Barmore is
- 6:20Speaker 6: inside with him, then now he's Robin instead of Batman.
- 6:24Speaker 6: And you know Christian Barmore is the Batman. You know,
- 6:27Speaker 6: David Andrews goes out and Nick Leverett allows the highest
- 6:31Speaker 6: amount of pressure a center has ever allowed in the
- 6:33Speaker 6: PFF era with ten quarterback pressures allowed by a center,
- 6:38Speaker 6: and you know, I wrote an after further review that
- 6:40Speaker 6: the guard play could have been better around him in
- 6:42Speaker 6: some certain instances. It certainly wasn't all on Nick Levertt.
- 6:46Speaker 6: But ten's ten, you know, that's that's the number next
- 6:49Speaker 6: to his name. So you have guys that are just
- 6:52Speaker 6: you know, that should be David Andrews, that there should
- 6:54Speaker 6: be a Christian Barmer out there. You know, Christian Ellis
- 6:57Speaker 6: is now playing man to man coverage on a running
- 6:59Speaker 6: back on a big third day late in the game, Like,
- 7:01Speaker 6: these are not things that they expected to be the
- 7:03Speaker 6: case two months ago. Yeah, and now you're seeing some
- 7:07Speaker 6: of those guys, you know, not be able to step
- 7:09Speaker 6: into those shoes.
- 7:10Speaker 5: Yep.
- 7:11Speaker 3: You know, So when when that's the issue, when you've
- 7:14Speaker 3: got injuries combined with you know, maybe a lack of
- 7:18Speaker 3: talent compared to you know, some of the other teams
- 7:20Speaker 3: you're playing, you're going to get that. So then you
- 7:23Speaker 3: turn to the coaching and you say, okay, well, now
- 7:26Speaker 3: they got to coach these guys up. They got to
- 7:28Speaker 3: they have to at least try to eliminate the stuff
- 7:32Speaker 3: that you can control. You can't control, you know, that's
- 7:35Speaker 3: Elliot Wolfstrob. You can't control your roster. You can't control
- 7:39Speaker 3: the other team's roster. But there's mistakes that maybe you
- 7:42Speaker 3: can have a hand in helping your team not commit.
- 7:45Speaker 3: And I think even then, let's be frank, I think
- 7:48Speaker 3: the coaching is falling short too.
- 7:50Speaker 5: No, I I think there's a really good points that
- 7:52Speaker 5: you just made, because it's not like there were a
- 7:54Speaker 5: lot of holding calls in the game on both teams.
- 7:57Speaker 6: You can't really like.
- 7:58Speaker 3: That's sometimes that's because they're better than you.
- 8:01Speaker 5: That's not coaching right. Sometimes you just got because they're
- 8:04Speaker 5: not teaching a technique that's going to lead to holding calls.
- 8:07Speaker 5: Especially yeah, especially when both teams are getting called for
- 8:10Speaker 5: a lot of holds. But you can prevent it, doesn't
- 8:13Speaker 5: you know, like the ones that we're talking about, you know,
- 8:16Speaker 5: the too many men you know on a punt, inexcusable
- 8:20Speaker 5: to me on a punt, especially not calling a timeout
- 8:23Speaker 5: and recognize it. You can prevent twice now in five weeks,
- 8:28Speaker 5: the same kind of scenario unfolds at the end of
- 8:31Speaker 5: the first half where you're backed up inside your ten.
- 8:34Speaker 5: The other team has timeouts. Your goal should be to
- 8:36Speaker 5: make sure they use their timeouts. And then on top
- 8:39Speaker 5: of that, you get eight yards on first down. And
- 8:41Speaker 5: I was joking about this during the game, so you know,
- 8:45Speaker 5: everybody remembers the sequence. The Dolphins bought a snap just
- 8:50Speaker 5: before the two minute warning. They lose a field goal
- 8:52Speaker 5: because no one's looking and they snap it. They lose
- 8:55Speaker 5: twenty two yards. Huge break for the Patriots. Miami ends
- 8:59Speaker 5: up having your punt up seven to three. The Patriots
- 9:02Speaker 5: get the ball, and their goal should be this is
- 9:04Speaker 5: the last possession of the half. Right, they get eight
- 9:07Speaker 5: yards on first down. Right, eight yards on first down,
- 9:11Speaker 5: so it's second and two. I joked to Evan and
- 9:13Speaker 5: Mike at the time. I was like, well, this is
- 9:15Speaker 5: the time they take a couple of shots down the sideline,
- 9:17Speaker 5: Am I right?
- 9:18Speaker 4: And they did.
- 9:20Speaker 5: They took two deep shots down the right sideline, one
- 9:23Speaker 5: of which was I think it was Polk. I keep saying,
- 9:26Speaker 5: I meant to check that. I think Polk did a
- 9:28Speaker 5: great job. It was preventing an interception, which you could
- 9:31Speaker 5: have given them the ball back even quicker. But sure enough,
- 9:34Speaker 5: Miami has the ball back at the end of the
- 9:36Speaker 5: half on the Patriots forty four yard line because you
- 9:40Speaker 5: threw two passes there when I'm sorry, the way the
- 9:43Speaker 5: Patriots have run the ball in twenty twenty four, they're
- 9:46Speaker 5: gonna take two downs and they're gonna pick up two
- 9:48Speaker 5: yards if they just run the ball and make the
- 9:50Speaker 5: other team use timeouts. They got so much yards on
- 9:53Speaker 5: first down that Mike McDaniel wisely didn't call time out,
- 9:57Speaker 5: So well, I'm not going to kick start there two
- 9:58Speaker 5: minutes drillier like they're going to get a first down,
- 10:01Speaker 5: so I'm not going to get the ball back. Like
- 10:04Speaker 5: that's the same thing they did against Seattle. And Mayo
- 10:06Speaker 5: recognized it against Seattle, and the same thing happened again,
- 10:09Speaker 5: and he again said, yes, you're right, that's bad execution.
- 10:13Speaker 3: Bob always hesitant to criticize play calling because I don't
- 10:16Speaker 3: know what the hell i'm you know, but like that
- 10:20Speaker 3: one seems to be universal. Like everybody who was looking
- 10:24Speaker 3: at that game said what was going on?
- 10:26Speaker 5: I'll be defensive of the play calling later in the show.
- 10:28Speaker 5: Ye how about that for a previews?
- 10:29Speaker 3: Okay, okay, you know, but that's what I did.
- 10:32Speaker 5: I did a little research. It kind of annoyed me
- 10:34Speaker 5: with some of the narratives. Yesterday, Alex man pelt.
- 10:37Speaker 3: That that one seemed to be a.
- 10:41Speaker 5: Repeat mistake, yeah, you know, and Girod said it was
- 10:44Speaker 5: a mistake. He said it was a carbon I think
- 10:46Speaker 5: he used the term carbon copy of the Seattle game.
- 10:49Speaker 3: And so I don't know, like what was going through
- 10:52Speaker 3: a VP's head, Like maybe they put ten guys in
- 10:56Speaker 3: the box, all right, so what like this is a
- 10:58Speaker 3: better call maybe then to throw it down the sideline.
- 11:02Speaker 3: I don't know, that's.
- 11:02Speaker 5: Specially this second.
- 11:03Speaker 8: Yeah, but that's weird to me if I was like,
- 11:05Speaker 8: they seem so acutely aware of who they are sometimes
- 11:08Speaker 8: when they talk to us, and then they get into
- 11:10Speaker 8: situations like that and they like lose their minds of
- 11:12Speaker 8: who they really are. It's like you tell us all
- 11:14Speaker 8: the time, you want to run the ball, you want
- 11:16Speaker 8: that to be your bread and butter. Well, and he's
- 11:18Speaker 8: gotta have it moments, Why are we taking shots?
- 11:20Speaker 3: Especially?
- 11:20Speaker 8: You know, it's such ill time situational football.
- 11:23Speaker 3: It's just I mean, I'd rather see Brissett charge ahead
- 11:27Speaker 3: on second down for what yard? Now it's third and one?
- 11:31Speaker 3: Do it again? Sure, you know, maybe it's posible.
- 11:34Speaker 5: But I didn't even hate the idea of throwing the ball.
- 11:36Speaker 5: I mean I would have run it, no question. But
- 11:39Speaker 5: I said at the time, how.
- 11:40Speaker 6: About like a little play.
- 11:41Speaker 5: Action, a little dump into the flat to Hunter Henry,
- 11:43Speaker 5: you know, like I'm gonna get five yards on this,
- 11:45Speaker 5: He's probably gonna get out of bounds, and I, you know,
- 11:48Speaker 5: now I get my first down and I can get going.
- 11:51Speaker 5: I can if I want to. Yeah, taking a shot
- 11:53Speaker 5: down the sideline for a team, especially that doesn't take
- 11:56Speaker 5: a lot of shots down the field to me, maybe
- 11:58Speaker 5: no sense at all.
- 12:02Speaker 6: Mayo says, it's, you know, execution, And I don't know
- 12:04Speaker 6: exactly what he means by that, like if he means.
- 12:07Speaker 5: We got to do it better. And it's not necessarily
- 12:08Speaker 5: to play.
- 12:09Speaker 6: Because when you watch right so then you watch the
- 12:12Speaker 6: second and third down play second down, Brissette just takes
- 12:17Speaker 6: the shot. He doesn't even there's routes on the left
- 12:20Speaker 6: hand side. He's not even looking over there. He's not
- 12:23Speaker 6: going through the progression. He's just I got one on
- 12:25Speaker 6: one here. I'm just gonna take a shot. Third down
- 12:28Speaker 6: to me, he he opens to the wrong side of
- 12:32Speaker 6: the field and Jalen Polk is open on third down
- 12:35Speaker 6: going into the left sideline, and he's looking right, and
- 12:38Speaker 6: so it's if you're the coaches, like, do you sit
- 12:40Speaker 6: there and say, well, he just didn't execute the play right.
- 12:44Speaker 6: You know, if you if his eyes are in the
- 12:46Speaker 6: right place here, then Polk's got the first down. And
- 12:48Speaker 6: we're not talking about how we watch the scenario at
- 12:51Speaker 6: the end of the half. But you're putting players in
- 12:55Speaker 6: a position where they have to do things that maybe
- 12:57Speaker 6: they're not capable of doing. So that's that's the part
- 13:01Speaker 6: of it from a coaching perspective that I had pushed
- 13:03Speaker 6: back on, is that you know that Jacoby Brissett is
- 13:06Speaker 6: not necessarily going to put the team on his back
- 13:08Speaker 6: and drive the ball here in the two minute drill,
- 13:10Speaker 6: So run the ball and if you gain eight more yards,
- 13:13Speaker 6: now maybe you know, take a shot down the field.
- 13:16Speaker 6: But you look at the end of the game. Do
- 13:18Speaker 6: the coaches look at that and say, well, we were
- 13:21Speaker 6: a heel away from that being a great play call. Now,
- 13:24Speaker 6: other people have said, you ran the ball for straight
- 13:27Speaker 6: times at the minute and twelve to go. When you're
- 13:29Speaker 6: run first team, why you why are you throwing the ball? Yeah,
- 13:32Speaker 6: a VP might say well, we had the exact right play.
- 13:35Speaker 5: Call out as definitely not as critical of that as
- 13:38Speaker 5: as some others have been. That's a great point, Like,
- 13:40Speaker 5: you know what, when you call a play and get
- 13:42Speaker 5: a guy open like that, I'm sorry, that's that's what
- 13:46Speaker 5: that's what you're looking for, right, I'm not. I don't
- 13:48Speaker 5: want to do it because I want to have to
- 13:50Speaker 5: run the ball, like because that's my identity. Yeah, yeah,
- 13:54Speaker 5: I'm gonna save that because it's a little bit long winded.
- 13:57Speaker 5: But the execution thing that you guys are talking about, Yeah,
- 14:00Speaker 5: I understand that a coach is going to say, well,
- 14:02Speaker 5: it's you just got to execute better. I get like
- 14:04Speaker 5: every play is designed to work, Like there are no
- 14:08Speaker 5: plays in the playbook that said, you know what, if
- 14:10Speaker 5: all goes well here, we might be able to gain
- 14:12Speaker 5: the yard. Like if everybody blocks any play properly, it
- 14:18Speaker 5: should work right, should pick up you know, a modicum
- 14:21Speaker 5: of yardage. But to Evan's point, you have to weigh
- 14:25Speaker 5: those kinds of execution percentages with your personnel. What are
- 14:30Speaker 5: your chances backed up inside your own ten yard line
- 14:34Speaker 5: of this is going to be the time we're going
- 14:35Speaker 5: to hit a deep ball right at the end of
- 14:37Speaker 5: the half, Like for a team that is so like
- 14:41Speaker 5: limited offensively, this is when we're going to go bombs away.
- 14:45Speaker 5: Like the way the pluses and minuses.
- 14:47Speaker 6: Yep, I get it.
- 14:49Speaker 5: If they executed the play properly, maybe there's a little
- 14:51Speaker 5: bit more room there, maybe they catch Miami by surprise. Yeah,
- 14:56Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 14:56Speaker 6: I'm not like a big situational play call guy like
- 15:00Speaker 6: I kind of that's Paul's side of the street. Yeah. Yeah.
- 15:04Speaker 6: But the lack of scheme related conflict, like play action, motion,
- 15:12Speaker 6: different formations, there's just not a lot of that that
- 15:15Speaker 6: goes on in this offense. And when you look at
- 15:18Speaker 6: a lot of the stats from next Gen Dallas, Cleveland,
- 15:22Speaker 6: they're Patriots, They're all in the same category and all
- 15:26Speaker 6: these things. It's all the same offense. It's the Mike
- 15:28Speaker 6: McCarthy offense that they're all running. And so the Patriots
- 15:32Speaker 6: right now are thirty first in the league and play
- 15:34Speaker 6: action rate. You don't have receivers that are that are
- 15:37Speaker 6: these great receivers. You know, if you had Jamar Chase
- 15:39Speaker 6: and t Higgins out there, then fine, just run routes
- 15:42Speaker 6: and get open and Joe Burrow's gonna get you the football,
- 15:45Speaker 6: they're thirty first in play action, they're twenty seventh in motion.
- 15:48Speaker 6: I know that's been the big topic. They don't they're
- 15:52Speaker 6: a spread formation offense, so everything is like these isolated
- 15:56Speaker 6: routes across the field. And you know, Mayo said last
- 15:59Speaker 6: week when we were talking to him about the motion,
- 16:01Speaker 6: that team's motion as an advantage when you don't have
- 16:06Speaker 6: the personnel. And when he says that, I'm like, well,
- 16:09Speaker 6: you don't have the personnel.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Well, I don't know if that's absolutely true either, but
- 16:14Speaker 3: he did say that. I know he said that. But
- 16:16Speaker 3: like Miami has the personnel and they motion right, you know.
- 16:20Speaker 6: So there's a lot of it.
- 16:21Speaker 3: Like you said, it creates conflict, it can be a
- 16:24Speaker 3: tell for the quarter. But there's a lot of reasons.
- 16:26Speaker 5: There's a lot of criticism in New York right now
- 16:28Speaker 5: with the Jets, who obviously, you know for those that
- 16:31Speaker 5: are listening didn't know, they just fired Robert Salah that
- 16:33Speaker 5: the same kinds of criticisms. Their offense Stacked doesn't use
- 16:38Speaker 5: any motion. Now it's all blamed on Rogers, which may
- 16:41Speaker 5: be true. Evidently Rogers doesn't like motion. I don't like it. No,
- 16:45Speaker 5: I don't care for it. I don't care for his comportment.
- 16:48Speaker 3: As I told you, I don't taken away from me.
- 16:52Speaker 5: And you know, but for whatever reason, those are similar
- 16:55Speaker 5: kind of criticisms of the Jets offense, which has been
- 16:58Speaker 5: just meh, hasn't been as bad as the Patriots, but
- 17:01Speaker 5: hasn't been great. And you know, they're, you know, gonna
- 17:05Speaker 5: move on from their head coach now because they're two
- 17:07Speaker 5: and three and obviously they had higher aspirations.
- 17:10Speaker 3: Yeah, and like we were talking about it before the
- 17:12Speaker 3: show started, they can still salvage their season.
- 17:15Speaker 5: I think it was a good move to do it
- 17:16Speaker 5: because there's a chance that you can sort of make
- 17:19Speaker 5: a move, put someone else in there, and maybe you
- 17:21Speaker 5: get a spark. I thought it was going to be
- 17:23Speaker 5: another week. I thought they would probably lose Monday night
- 17:25Speaker 5: to Buffalo and then two and four they would do it.
- 17:28Speaker 5: But I think it's a good move. They can't wait
- 17:30Speaker 5: around with a forty whatever year is he forty forty
- 17:33Speaker 5: one forty. You can't just say, well, we'll get a
- 17:36Speaker 5: new coach in next year and we'll take another run.
- 17:38Speaker 5: It's a very sm Your window is much smaller with
- 17:42Speaker 5: that team than.
- 17:43Speaker 3: Buffalo, probably, Yeah, that's what you hope with it, Like
- 17:45Speaker 3: you tell me, window close.
- 17:47Speaker 8: I know there's not a lot of Patriots positivity right now,
- 17:49Speaker 8: but that's what you hope. That you hope that the
- 17:51Speaker 8: Jets are going to fall off this year and that
- 17:53Speaker 8: you know, the window might start to open for the
- 17:55Speaker 8: Patriots a little bit. And I'll see what happens down
- 17:57Speaker 8: in Miami too, But they can, you know, find a
- 17:59Speaker 8: way to salvage yea.
- 18:00Speaker 5: The only difference is they have a ton of young talent.
- 18:02Speaker 8: They do they do the quarterback.
- 18:04Speaker 5: The quarterback is what they're missing.
- 18:06Speaker 3: Yeah, but you know, going back to our team, we're
- 18:11Speaker 3: in a tough spot. We've got Drawd Mayo, who is
- 18:15Speaker 3: this is the first time he's done this, but his
- 18:17Speaker 3: support cast is some guys who it's the first time
- 18:21Speaker 3: they're doing what they've done, they're doing as well, and
- 18:24Speaker 3: that that's a that's a tough combination, uh for Mayo
- 18:29Speaker 3: right now. So you wonder if he's getting the support
- 18:32Speaker 3: that he needs, especially during games, you know, in the
- 18:36Speaker 3: heat of the moment, Like you know, we talked about
- 18:39Speaker 3: the twelve guys, the twelve man you know, oh running
- 18:43Speaker 3: off on that play, like you would hope that Mayo
- 18:47Speaker 3: would see that in call time out, But Jeremy Springer
- 18:50Speaker 3: can call time out too, or somebody else can, you know,
- 18:53Speaker 3: it doesn't have to be Mayo. The other play that
- 18:56Speaker 3: I was thinking about, uh it was uh you know, yeah,
- 19:01Speaker 3: no it was. It was a jail break up the
- 19:03Speaker 3: A gaps and it was right and just before the
- 19:09Speaker 3: snap Miami shifts, you know, and that's something where you know,
- 19:14Speaker 3: an experienced quarterback should see that and either call out
- 19:18Speaker 3: of the play or call a different coverage, or if
- 19:21Speaker 3: you have to because you're in just the wrong play,
- 19:24Speaker 3: call time out, you know, and nobody does anything. Nothing
- 19:29Speaker 3: was done, and it was overloaded to the sets right
- 19:33Speaker 3: and they just came and just he had one second
- 19:36Speaker 3: and he was like, somebody's got to see that and
- 19:39Speaker 3: do something. Nobody did anything.
- 19:42Speaker 8: And you wonder with all, you know, the changes that
- 19:44Speaker 8: they've implemented, with all the different people being on the radio,
- 19:47Speaker 8: and I mean, it's just it's are there too many
- 19:49Speaker 8: cooks in the kitchen right now and not one single
- 19:51Speaker 8: chef that's you know, being able to make those calls.
- 19:54Speaker 8: It's like that's the thing I'm a little worried about
- 19:57Speaker 8: right now, is like there's just everybody's got an opinion
- 20:00Speaker 8: in there, I'm sure and there, and but at a
- 20:02Speaker 8: certain point, like I feel like Girott has to put
- 20:04Speaker 8: his foot down and be like, this is what we
- 20:05Speaker 8: need to do. We need to run the ball at
- 20:07Speaker 8: the end of the first half. We need to run
- 20:08Speaker 8: the clock out, like, you know, he needs to come
- 20:10Speaker 8: down and start, you know. And I don't know, maybe
- 20:12Speaker 8: he is transfor I don't know.
- 20:13Speaker 5: I put that particular that element. That's a head coach thing.
- 20:17Speaker 5: A head coach needs to say, hey, Alex, we need
- 20:22Speaker 5: to make sure we're running the ball here, right, No,
- 20:23Speaker 5: we need to make sure that this is the last
- 20:25Speaker 5: possession of the half. We're backed up inside our ten.
- 20:28Speaker 5: We need to make sure that, above all else, this
- 20:31Speaker 5: is the last possession of the half. So you know,
- 20:34Speaker 5: if you want to say specifically to run it, fine,
- 20:36Speaker 5: Bill used to do that all the time. Yeah, Josh,
- 20:38Speaker 5: we're running it here. He would say it all the time. Situationally,
- 20:42Speaker 5: they need to be better.
- 20:43Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, we're running it. You call it, you know,
- 20:46Speaker 6: like if it's power, if it's outside zone, like that's
- 20:50Speaker 6: that's your your way, that's your school, right, But we're
- 20:54Speaker 6: running it here. Just find a way to run the ball.
- 20:56Speaker 6: And what's our plan on third down? Like what how
- 21:00Speaker 6: are we picking up this blitz? How are we getting
- 21:03Speaker 6: receivers open? Who's hot? You know? Where's what are we
- 21:06Speaker 6: doing to handle these blitzes that they're throwing our way
- 21:10Speaker 6: right now? Too many times on film it just looks
- 21:13Speaker 6: like there's no real plan of protection routes. You know,
- 21:18Speaker 6: they're they're blitzing the crap out of per set. You
- 21:21Speaker 6: know that that's that's the plan right now, Manta man coverage,
- 21:24Speaker 6: Send everybody and get make him make a quick decision
- 21:28Speaker 6: with the ball. And you know he's just throwing like
- 21:31Speaker 6: a spot route over the middle of the field to
- 21:33Speaker 6: Austin Hooper, Like that's our best blitz beater is Austin
- 21:36Speaker 6: Hooper running seven yards up the field and turning around
- 21:39Speaker 6: and hoping that Persett hits them. You know that that's
- 21:42Speaker 6: that's our You know, we have guys like Pop Douglas.
- 21:45Speaker 6: You have guys like two running backs that can catch
- 21:47Speaker 6: the ball out of the backfield that if you get
- 21:50Speaker 6: them on the move somewhere against the blitz pressure like that,
- 21:53Speaker 6: then they're gonna have some space in some room to
- 21:55Speaker 6: run and right now, it's just okay, we're gonna go
- 21:57Speaker 6: five wide, they're gonna send pressure and we're gonna throw
- 22:00Speaker 6: the bottle a spot over the middle of the field
- 22:01Speaker 6: and hopefully it works out. And yeah, it's just not working.
- 22:04Speaker 6: Yeah that's not good enough.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Yeah, so we've come to a crossroads, I think. Uh
- 22:11Speaker 3: and you know, there are rumors out there that maybe
- 22:15Speaker 3: Mao makes the decision.
- 22:17Speaker 5: I thought your aunt sounded like he was ready. Yeah,
- 22:19Speaker 5: on Monday, I sort of fall in line. Normally, I
- 22:22Speaker 5: don't as you know, there's a lot of like media
- 22:24Speaker 5: narratives that I don't necessarily see the same way. But
- 22:27Speaker 5: I thought he sounded like a guy that was ready
- 22:29Speaker 5: to make it.
- 22:29Speaker 3: Oh, we talked about it on the postgame show. I
- 22:31Speaker 3: think I think it's time. I think you've got, you know,
- 22:35Speaker 3: a home game here and then you go to London,
- 22:39Speaker 3: which is gonna be kind of a neutral atmosphere. Uh
- 22:42Speaker 3: so maybe two environments in which a rookie quarterback can
- 22:45Speaker 3: operate for the first time in terms of you know,
- 22:48Speaker 3: being heard and getting signals out and all that stuff.
- 22:52Speaker 3: I think it's a good time to put him in.
- 22:56Speaker 3: I think if you wait any longer after these two games,
- 22:59Speaker 3: you might as well wait tilap to the buy.
- 23:00Speaker 5: And I would just say, you know, my two senses,
- 23:03Speaker 5: I don't think there's an ideal situation to put him in,
- 23:06Speaker 5: So why.
- 23:06Speaker 3: Not right right now? There's never going to be oh,
- 23:09Speaker 3: this is perfect, it's and and if and when they
- 23:12Speaker 3: put him in, it probably won't look that great. You know,
- 23:16Speaker 3: I'm perfectly you know, expecting there to be a lot
- 23:21Speaker 3: of bumps and bruises and hiccups and roll.
- 23:24Speaker 5: You know, we ask you him like, did you think
- 23:26Speaker 5: it's you know, probably more geared to Evan because I
- 23:29Speaker 5: know you watched the film.
- 23:30Speaker 8: I did grind it again yesterday?
- 23:32Speaker 5: Did you grind it again? You know what, I'll open
- 23:34Speaker 5: it to you.
- 23:35Speaker 6: Good for you.
- 23:37Speaker 5: Do you feel like there were some signs, because this
- 23:40Speaker 5: is something that's been talked about a little bit the
- 23:42Speaker 5: last day and a half or so, that maybe there
- 23:45Speaker 5: were some plays that were to be made a little
- 23:48Speaker 5: a little bit more like they were a little closer,
- 23:52Speaker 5: let's put it, that, a little closer to having a
- 23:54Speaker 5: semblance of an offense in this game than maybe in
- 23:57Speaker 5: the previous four.
- 23:58Speaker 8: I mean, personally, just I'll tell you what I saw.
- 24:00Speaker 8: I didn't feel that way so much, not saying I
- 24:02Speaker 8: didn't I did either last game. I felt more that
- 24:05Speaker 8: way in this one. I saw a little bit more
- 24:07Speaker 8: out of the offensive line. I thought a couple you know,
- 24:09Speaker 8: the tackles specifically, Evan and I were talking about just
- 24:12Speaker 8: one play that stood out to me. It was the
- 24:15Speaker 8: first or second third down that they faced, but the
- 24:17Speaker 8: right tackle just threw his arms and the rusher just
- 24:21Speaker 8: died at the spot. I mean, it was like, and
- 24:23Speaker 8: I'm like, is that a strike system? Like did I
- 24:25Speaker 8: just see what this is what they've been talking about?
- 24:27Speaker 8: Because it was there was just a really impressive play
- 24:28Speaker 8: by it.
- 24:29Speaker 6: There was three guys on the ground on play.
- 24:32Speaker 8: Boom and the guy just drops in a way, and
- 24:34Speaker 8: I was like, well, where's the other guy? So that
- 24:37Speaker 8: to me stood out a little bit more as a positive.
- 24:39Speaker 5: I didn't generally you didn't necessarily see like no, not
- 24:42Speaker 5: not close, not just I would say I would agree, like,
- 24:45Speaker 5: I just thought it looked very similar production wise. Is
- 24:49Speaker 5: the other the other four One of the things people
- 24:51Speaker 5: have been saying, like, you know, they got this, they
- 24:53Speaker 5: get that. I mean, I I'd make fun of the
- 24:55Speaker 5: defense a lot for like like this this game a
- 24:58Speaker 5: lot of people say, you know, Girod said it, we
- 25:00Speaker 5: played defense good enough. I don't think you did. But
- 25:03Speaker 5: to me, no one ever takes the opponent into consideration.
- 25:07Speaker 5: Right the offensive line settled down after a tough start
- 25:10Speaker 5: because the other team didn't have any pass rushers available
- 25:12Speaker 5: in this game.
- 25:13Speaker 6: They were out Now, Phillips.
- 25:15Speaker 5: Didn't play, Jubb didn't play.
- 25:16Speaker 8: That's that's another thing about the strike system. I was like, well,
- 25:19Speaker 8: I don't know who this guy even is.
- 25:20Speaker 5: Chopping Steeler looked pretty good.
- 25:22Speaker 8: But one thing I didn't want to ask just run
- 25:24Speaker 8: past Evan Like what stood out to me a couple
- 25:27Speaker 8: of times and you kind of hinted at already were
- 25:29Speaker 8: on some of the blitzes, like who's the hot read
- 25:31Speaker 8: like who? Like because a couple of times there were
- 25:33Speaker 8: blitzes and there's no there's just no one to throw
- 25:35Speaker 8: to and they're sending five six guys and they're getting
- 25:38Speaker 8: there and it's like somebody's got to pop open quick,
- 25:40Speaker 8: and everybody's just running down the field just you know,
- 25:42Speaker 8: there's no chance. That was one thing that stood out
- 25:45Speaker 8: to me a little bit.
- 25:45Speaker 6: Yeah, that that happened too often, even the last third
- 25:48Speaker 6: down at the game where they have six, they're bringing six,
- 25:51Speaker 6: they're bringing the house, and everybody's running into the end zone.
- 25:54Speaker 6: And I know it's third and ten, but like you
- 25:57Speaker 6: have two downs to get third and ten. So even
- 25:59Speaker 6: if you complete a five yard pass, like you still
- 26:02Speaker 6: are gonna go for it on fourth down anyways, but.
- 26:05Speaker 5: It's kind of my point. Yeah, so like you get
- 26:08Speaker 5: the near if you're Miami, you see what happens on
- 26:10Speaker 5: second down. You're lucky that you didn't give up the
- 26:13Speaker 5: go ahead touchdown, right right, So what did they say, Well,
- 26:18Speaker 5: we ain't letting that. We're not leaving this to chance again.
- 26:21Speaker 5: We're gonna come at them with everything on third and
- 26:23Speaker 5: fourth down because we're gonna get there if we do,
- 26:25Speaker 5: and they did on both plays. They got the ball
- 26:28Speaker 5: out real quick. I mean the fourth down play had
- 26:30Speaker 5: no shot.
- 26:31Speaker 6: Yeah, there was pressure on all three of those final plays,
- 26:33Speaker 6: and we can get to the polk one in a second.
- 26:36Speaker 6: But I thought in this game there were four or
- 26:40Speaker 6: five opportunities, which granted is is small, Like we're talking
- 26:44Speaker 6: about very small margins. You know, I just watched the
- 26:47Speaker 6: Houston Texans offense against Buffalo last night, and they have
- 26:51Speaker 6: four or five opportunities a half. Not four or five
- 26:54Speaker 6: opportunities a game, but there's four or five opportunities where
- 26:59Speaker 6: a great throw would produce a big play for the Patriots.
- 27:05Speaker 6: I did not think Brissette was a train wreck in
- 27:07Speaker 6: this game. I didn't think he was terrible. I agree
- 27:10Speaker 6: he was worth it.
- 27:11Speaker 5: He had a couple opportunities for Polk. I mean obviously
- 27:13Speaker 5: a touchdown, there was one earlier in corn first half. Yeah,
- 27:17Speaker 5: Polk ran a nice route, got behind and the throw
- 27:20Speaker 5: was just overthrown, but not a lot. I didn't see
- 27:23Speaker 5: a lot of that.
- 27:24Speaker 6: Yeah, he was definitely worse in San Francisco, And like
- 27:28Speaker 6: to Paul's point, it's a much better defense in the
- 27:30Speaker 6: forty nine ers and the Dolphins. But there's four or
- 27:33Speaker 6: five plays two to Polk. One was the corner route
- 27:36Speaker 6: early on that you're referencing. He had an out later
- 27:38Speaker 6: on in the game on third down that a great
- 27:41Speaker 6: quarterback and a great throw is a completion there. And
- 27:45Speaker 6: he also had a deep shot to Pop Douglas on
- 27:48Speaker 6: a play action play where he twisted the safety around
- 27:51Speaker 6: and he had a step on the safety and it
- 27:53Speaker 6: wasn't a great throw. And you just look at this offense,
- 27:56Speaker 6: and they can't afford to miss on those opportunities because
- 28:00Speaker 6: they don't present enough of them. So if you're wintling
- 28:04Speaker 6: it down to four or five plays, it's tough. It's
- 28:07Speaker 6: a tough, you know, grading system for Bersett. But at
- 28:12Speaker 6: the same time, does Drake May get in there and
- 28:15Speaker 6: does he hit that deep shot to pop Douglas, does
- 28:17Speaker 6: he hit that third down play under some pressure. Well,
- 28:21Speaker 6: we don't know until he gets out there and we
- 28:23Speaker 6: see it. But when I heard Girod talk about it,
- 28:27Speaker 6: that's what it is. It's not like he threw three
- 28:29Speaker 6: picks and two pick sixes and was an absolute mess
- 28:32Speaker 6: on Sunday. It's that there. It's just not good enough.
- 28:36Speaker 3: Like it's just not good And I'm not saying like
- 28:38Speaker 3: if May comes in, it's all of a sudden going
- 28:41Speaker 3: to be good enough and they're gonna win these games.
- 28:44Speaker 3: I want him in just to start the process of
- 28:47Speaker 3: learning how to play quarterback in the NFL. I don't
- 28:50Speaker 3: think that. I don't I'm not. I don't know, Like
- 28:53Speaker 3: if that throw to Poke at the end, if if
- 28:55Speaker 3: it's lower and Poke scores the touchdown, I maybe.
- 28:58Speaker 5: He sails it further off his head.
- 29:00Speaker 3: And I want him to start learning how to play quarterback.
- 29:03Speaker 5: And he played exactly the same as Prissette has played
- 29:07Speaker 5: for the most part. I mean, you know, obviously it
- 29:09Speaker 5: would look different because he has a different skill set,
- 29:11Speaker 5: but the similar production. I would still feel better about it,
- 29:14Speaker 5: right because I'm getting the guys some development time, some experience,
- 29:18Speaker 5: and I'm assuming he's going to get better. You know,
- 29:21Speaker 5: I have immense respect for what Prissette has done in
- 29:24Speaker 5: the first five weeks, so I know it probably doesn't
- 29:26Speaker 5: sound that way.
- 29:26Speaker 6: I have a lot of respect.
- 29:28Speaker 5: Like some of the throws he made in the fourth
- 29:30Speaker 5: quarter the other day while getting popped, we're pretty act.
- 29:35Speaker 6: The throw that he made to Kaishan Boudy on like
- 29:37Speaker 6: the true last drive of the game.
- 29:39Speaker 5: He breaks I didn't even see that he breaks down.
- 29:41Speaker 6: He breaks out of two sacks and then throws off
- 29:44Speaker 6: platform across the field on the move to a bullet
- 29:48Speaker 6: to Kaishan Boody. Like that's a great throw, Like that's
- 29:51Speaker 6: a big time throw. But the throw to the polk
- 29:54Speaker 6: on the potential game winner is just it's just too high,
- 29:58Speaker 6: Like it throw is too high, just a little too high.
- 30:01Speaker 6: And those are the margins for them right now, you
- 30:03Speaker 6: know that that.
- 30:04Speaker 5: That it was really he didn't have to get that.
- 30:06Speaker 6: Over well, so you know we thought that so on
- 30:09Speaker 6: when who gave up some pressure on the inside on
- 30:11Speaker 6: the play, and like my one critique of that was
- 30:14Speaker 6: just that's your eighteen million dollar a year guard, you know,
- 30:17Speaker 6: he he he draws, he draws the one on one
- 30:20Speaker 6: because he's the.
- 30:21Speaker 5: Guy, and hey, there's any any sort of coverage in
- 30:25Speaker 5: front that he had.
- 30:28Speaker 6: But it's a it's a classic Tampa two hole shot.
- 30:31Speaker 6: Like right, you know, Tampa two lineback course. So the
- 30:34Speaker 6: linebackers carrying the vertical three up his three. Right, when
- 30:37Speaker 6: three guys go vertical, the linebacker carries the vertical, the
- 30:40Speaker 6: two safeties are in the split field, and he's splitting
- 30:43Speaker 6: the two safeties up the middle. What you want to
- 30:46Speaker 6: do is put the ball right over the guy's head,
- 30:48Speaker 6: like right, like put it right over the linebackers because
- 30:51Speaker 6: he's his back is to the quarterback, so he can't
- 30:53Speaker 6: see the ball coming. So all you gotta do is
- 30:56Speaker 6: just zing it right over his head and then Polk
- 30:59Speaker 6: doesn't have to to jump. Yeah, and that's the difference,
- 31:03Speaker 6: you know, do I does Drake may make that throw.
- 31:05Speaker 3: I don't know, but but at least I want him
- 31:07Speaker 3: in there trying, yeah, right, like and learn from it.
- 31:10Speaker 5: If he threw that same throw into the third row,
- 31:12Speaker 5: I would still feel better.
- 31:13Speaker 6: But I am dead.
- 31:14Speaker 3: I totally get what you're saying with you.
- 31:16Speaker 8: I just think with May when he gets in, and
- 31:18Speaker 8: I think it's good that we're having a conversation now
- 31:19Speaker 8: about you know, before it happens, of like reasonably, what's
- 31:22Speaker 8: the expectations, because there probably are some fans out there
- 31:25Speaker 8: that expect that it will be better, and I don't
- 31:27Speaker 8: know necessarily to be better. I just want to see flashes,
- 31:29Speaker 8: you know, I want to see what we saw this summer,
- 31:31Speaker 8: which was all right, yeah he airmailed that one, like you,
- 31:33Speaker 8: there's gonna be some airmails like that's kind of what
- 31:35Speaker 8: he did in college a little bit too. But there's
- 31:37Speaker 8: also just that arm and that willingness to throw the
- 31:40Speaker 8: ball down the field and some of these plays where
- 31:42Speaker 8: some of them it's a guy has a half a
- 31:43Speaker 8: step and looking on you know, when we look back
- 31:45Speaker 8: at it, it doesn't look like he missed the play. But
- 31:47Speaker 8: for May, if that might be a misplay, what would.
- 31:50Speaker 5: You say is the most think the thing that you've
- 31:52Speaker 5: been most impressed about with Brissett through the five games toughness, right,
- 31:55Speaker 5: So that perfect. Finally I asked her, I had no question,
- 31:58Speaker 5: and he got it right.
- 32:01Speaker 8: I always get scared when you ask me a question like
- 32:02Speaker 8: what road are you trying to watch me that ball?
- 32:04Speaker 5: I'm not going to mount Cooks with you, but I
- 32:06Speaker 5: would totally agree that like his ability to take hits
- 32:09Speaker 5: and keep getting up in his toughness. So I also
- 32:12Speaker 5: think that's a really valuable thing. And I don't want
- 32:14Speaker 5: Drake May to get hurt. I've said this a million times,
- 32:16Speaker 5: but I think it's great that you're going to find
- 32:19Speaker 5: out a little bit about the toughness of your your
- 32:22Speaker 5: presumptive franchise quarterback. Yeah, you know that's why I You know,
- 32:27Speaker 5: if I would grad, i'd make I'd make the move.
- 32:29Speaker 5: If it's not this week, it would be in London.
- 32:31Speaker 5: It's got to be soon.
- 32:33Speaker 3: I'm ready.
- 32:33Speaker 6: Yeah. I just think the biggest thing too, is, you
- 32:35Speaker 6: know I mentioned earlier that they're playing they're seeing a
- 32:37Speaker 6: ton of man coverage and they're seeing a ton of
- 32:39Speaker 6: blitz pressure. No team in the league sees more man
- 32:42Speaker 6: coverage than the Patriots.
- 32:43Speaker 3: Right now.
- 32:43Speaker 6: Yeah, because they just know the outside receivers are not special,
- 32:46Speaker 6: so they're not going to win against man to man consistently.
- 32:49Speaker 6: But the difference is is that if you put Drake
- 32:51Speaker 6: in there, he can run.
- 32:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 32:53Speaker 6: So like now, if you're gonna blitz him and then
- 32:55Speaker 6: you're gonna be man to man everywhere. If you don't
- 32:57Speaker 6: have a spy or something like that accounting for the coquarterback,
- 33:00Speaker 6: then he's gonna get outside the pocket and he's gonna
- 33:02Speaker 6: pick up the first down with his legs, or he's
- 33:05Speaker 6: gonna get out and he's gonna improvise and he's gonna
- 33:07Speaker 6: throw on the move. And I understand people want him
- 33:09Speaker 6: to play quarterback from the pocket, but that is what
- 33:12Speaker 6: this offense needs right now, is somebody to elevate that element.
- 33:15Speaker 5: Something extra to make up for the fact that they
- 33:18Speaker 5: can't win all of these one on one messages all
- 33:20Speaker 5: the time.
- 33:20Speaker 3: And we see it every week in almost every game.
- 33:25Speaker 3: Quarterbacks have to run every once in a while, and
- 33:26Speaker 3: when they do, it's a backbreaker for the defense. It's
- 33:29Speaker 3: you know, they got everybody covered down downfield, the pocket's
- 33:34Speaker 3: broken up, and then the quarterback runs for fifteen yards.
- 33:37Speaker 3: You need to have a couple of those in a game.
- 33:39Speaker 8: Did you see any of those Mahome scrambles last night?
- 33:41Speaker 6: Like you see the one d.
- 33:44Speaker 5: The play was an incomplete pass. But and this is
- 33:46Speaker 5: where I know that, you know, I know, I know
- 33:48Speaker 5: the Patriots fans love these when when as as as
- 33:51Speaker 5: TJ said last night, I'm so sick of them glazing.
- 33:56Speaker 5: I just started laughing that just looking us like I'm
- 33:59Speaker 5: not that.
- 34:02Speaker 2: Language.
- 34:02Speaker 5: There was a play in the red zone where he
- 34:04Speaker 5: started scrambling around and he just did a like a
- 34:06Speaker 5: complete spin spin spin around it. There was no one there,
- 34:10Speaker 5: and I was just like like, what was that?
- 34:12Speaker 6: Unbelievable?
- 34:13Speaker 3: But there was another play around midfield where you know,
- 34:16Speaker 3: his pockets broken, you know broken, contained makes a guy
- 34:21Speaker 3: miss in the backfield and he's not even running, but
- 34:24Speaker 3: he's got such field awareness and all of a sudden
- 34:27Speaker 3: and then he just runs out of bound just before
- 34:29Speaker 3: the guy gets to him, and he's got like twelve
- 34:31Speaker 3: thirteen yards.
- 34:32Speaker 6: Yeah, the play that he made, the when he dove
- 34:34Speaker 6: for the pylon, he out to two tackles at once.
- 34:38Speaker 6: I was just like, holy crap. I didn't know he
- 34:41Speaker 6: was that quick, you know, Like that was impressive, but
- 34:43Speaker 6: like not to put it all on Drake May that
- 34:45Speaker 6: he's got to do those kinds of things. But he
- 34:47Speaker 6: can do those kinds of things. And then if you
- 34:50Speaker 6: get outside the pocket and we're man to man across
- 34:52Speaker 6: the board, maybe Pop Douglas pops free late in the down,
- 34:56Speaker 6: Maybe Polk gets opened down in the field, and now
- 34:58Speaker 6: it's a big play, you know, we're talking about maybe
- 35:00Speaker 6: Juju smith Hussey.
- 35:01Speaker 5: Yeah, twenty yards or whatever he got.
- 35:03Speaker 6: I was so mad about that.
- 35:05Speaker 5: But that dropped touchdown for a pick.
- 35:07Speaker 8: That's oh yeah, that's so. That's why I wake up
- 35:09Speaker 8: this morning. I didn't watch all the game enough. But
- 35:12Speaker 8: then I see do we make a mistake letting? And
- 35:14Speaker 8: I'm like, I refuse to ever get off of the
- 35:16Speaker 8: hill that juju was washed here.
- 35:18Speaker 5: It would only be a mistake if Mahomes was our quarter.
- 35:21Speaker 3: But every catch he had, He's.
- 35:23Speaker 8: Like, why no one even near him? And then of
- 35:26Speaker 8: course I'm like, oh, wait, what's this. Oh he fumbled
- 35:28Speaker 8: it off his hands in the end zone into the
- 35:30Speaker 8: other game. That's the juju we saw and he turned what.
- 35:33Speaker 5: Was I mean, I don't know how much of the
- 35:34Speaker 5: game you saw. That was an absolute blowout last night.
- 35:36Speaker 5: I mean, like it was not competitive y. Yeah, And
- 35:39Speaker 5: that play made the game somewhat competitive on the scoreboard
- 35:43Speaker 5: in the fourth quarter, like they're going in to make
- 35:46Speaker 5: a twenty three to seven. He drops the touchdown and
- 35:48Speaker 5: basically leads to a touchdown the other way. It's all
- 35:50Speaker 5: of a sudden, it's sixteen thirteen in a game that
- 35:54Speaker 5: I don't know, Like the Chiefs felt like they were
- 35:56Speaker 5: ahead by four scores.
- 35:57Speaker 6: They doubled up them in yards time of possession.
- 36:00Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean it was not a competitive game.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:03Speaker 8: It's the weird part to me that with May is
- 36:05Speaker 8: like I never thought with Brissette, like I for some reason,
- 36:07Speaker 8: I just thought he'd be able to take the easy
- 36:09Speaker 8: stuff and like that seems a struggle to me. And
- 36:11Speaker 8: I'm surprised. And I know that it's probably asking a
- 36:14Speaker 8: lot for Drake me to come in and process as
- 36:16Speaker 8: quickly as gonna need to hit those quick shots. But
- 36:19Speaker 8: I never thought that. That's what my biggest complaint with
- 36:21Speaker 8: Jacoby Brissett would be, Like he can't take the layups,
- 36:24Speaker 8: Like the layups that are there.
- 36:27Speaker 6: I think a lot of it. I'm not gonna like
- 36:33Speaker 6: I'm not in I don't know what they're coaching them
- 36:35Speaker 6: to do when it comes to pre snapper reeds and
- 36:37Speaker 6: things like that. But if you're going to be a
- 36:39Speaker 6: quarterback that's a little bit limited in terms of his
- 36:41Speaker 6: physical tools, then you gotta dominate mentally, Like you gotta
- 36:45Speaker 6: be able to come to the line of scrimmage, know
- 36:47Speaker 6: where your numbers are, know where the line is, you
- 36:49Speaker 6: know where's the pressure coming from, how are we blocking this,
- 36:52Speaker 6: Where am I going with the ball? And just all
- 36:54Speaker 6: of that just right now just doesn't seem to be clicking.
- 36:57Speaker 3: Get it out.
- 36:57Speaker 8: I mean, that's maybe my biggest question with Drake is
- 37:00Speaker 8: would he be able to get it out quick? When
- 37:01Speaker 8: he gets it? You know, is going to be or
- 37:03Speaker 8: is it.
- 37:03Speaker 3: Going to be like it's all going to be? Yeah,
- 37:05Speaker 3: you know, this is where we have to be watching.
- 37:07Speaker 3: How is he processing, what decisions is he making? How
- 37:12Speaker 3: is he under pressure? That's what it's all about.
- 37:14Speaker 5: And that should be the only thing for or against
- 37:18Speaker 5: him playing those things.
- 37:19Speaker 8: The speed of the game, and compared to some of
- 37:21Speaker 8: the performances of the other rookie quarterbacks who have all
- 37:23Speaker 8: you know, had some success but have had ups and downs.
- 37:25Speaker 8: Two in these few first.
- 37:26Speaker 5: And I would hope that we're not doing that at all.
- 37:30Speaker 5: I would hope that the coaches don't really care what's
- 37:32Speaker 5: going on in those other three places because they're not here.
- 37:34Speaker 5: I would hope that it's just about what Fred just
- 37:36Speaker 5: talked about, like how quickly is he processing here?
- 37:39Speaker 3: And here's something I'm anxious about. We talked about Drawed Mayo,
- 37:44Speaker 3: first year head coach, having the support that he needs.
- 37:48Speaker 3: Does Mayo have the support he needs? You know, is
- 37:51Speaker 3: at this point Alex van Pelt so caught up in
- 37:55Speaker 3: how he's calling the game and getting ready, you know,
- 37:57Speaker 3: the game plan that May's not getting the attention, and
- 38:01Speaker 3: and you know, what's Ben mcadoo's role, Like, how is
- 38:04Speaker 3: he supporting Tissa McCartney is a young guy, Like, I
- 38:08Speaker 3: don't think that he can be that much of a support. So, like,
- 38:11Speaker 3: is what support is may getting in this critical time?
- 38:15Speaker 3: I don't know. Maybe it's great, I just don't know.
- 38:18Speaker 3: I'm anxious about it. I'm anxious.
- 38:20Speaker 8: I mean the reps thing was a little bit of
- 38:22Speaker 8: a glimpse of, you know, prioritizing his development even though
- 38:25Speaker 8: he's still the backup quarterback. I would just hope that
- 38:27Speaker 8: when they do make the switch Jacoby Brissett. I mean,
- 38:30Speaker 8: now everybody's focused on getting the kid ready, preparing him,
- 38:33Speaker 8: making sure he's you know, it's not like Paul said,
- 38:36Speaker 8: it's it's gonna be dicey no matter when he gets
- 38:38Speaker 8: in there for a variety of reasons. But you just
- 38:40Speaker 8: you want to give him all the tools you can.
- 38:41Speaker 3: Good luck kid, all right, TPX heutline is eight five
- 38:44Speaker 3: to five past five hundred, eight five five past five hundred.
- 38:48Speaker 3: Let's get to some of the listeners and emailers and
- 38:51Speaker 3: callers and and all that good stuff. We'll start with
- 38:54Speaker 3: Patty and Agawam. What's up Patty?
- 38:58Speaker 6: Hey, Patty.
- 39:01Speaker 9: So I've sent Tom down since I woke up this
- 39:04Speaker 9: morning because I was pretty heated. I was gonna go
- 39:07Speaker 9: on a rant. But what basically all boils down to
- 39:10Speaker 9: is Jacoby's a backup quarterback. We all know that I
- 39:15Speaker 9: said before you know I said leading up to the game.
- 39:18Speaker 9: I said in the pregame show, I thought the past
- 39:19Speaker 9: we're gonna lose. And my reason was you can't consistently
- 39:25Speaker 9: throw for as a team one hundred and fifty yards
- 39:28Speaker 9: or less every game and expect to win.
- 39:31Speaker 3: Go ahead, Well, it didn't happen. Fred, No, I know,
- 39:35Speaker 3: but but go ahead and you.
- 39:39Speaker 9: Could say he wasn't a train wreck. But I don't know.
- 39:42Speaker 9: To me, it's just I like, like you like you
- 39:45Speaker 9: guys said, like I want to see if the kid
- 39:47Speaker 9: can play, put him in there, and Paul like, I'm
- 39:51Speaker 9: with you, like, I don't know. I don't know if
- 39:53Speaker 9: the Mario Douglas is a good player. I don't know
- 39:55Speaker 9: if Jalm Polk is a good player, because at this
- 39:57Speaker 9: point we have a backup quarterback on to him and
- 40:01Speaker 9: I don't I'm not saying the rookie is going to
- 40:02Speaker 9: be any better, but at least give him a chance
- 40:04Speaker 9: to be better. And I'll say this, like, if we
- 40:09Speaker 9: might have a chance to win maybe three games for
- 40:12Speaker 9: the rest of the year, if Drake may plays, if
- 40:15Speaker 9: if Jacobe's the starter for the rest of the game,
- 40:17Speaker 9: for the rest of the season, I mean, we might
- 40:19Speaker 9: have seen the one game that we won all year.
- 40:22Speaker 9: But that's that's kind of where I'm at right now.
- 40:25Speaker 9: I'm not gonna you know, I'm gonna watch every game
- 40:28Speaker 9: so I can just do this, you know, pretty much
- 40:32Speaker 9: like after that that touchdown that wasn't and it wasn't
- 40:36Speaker 9: a touchdown to anybody that's gonna call up and complain
- 40:38Speaker 9: and say they should change to the rule. That's always
- 40:41Speaker 9: been the rule.
- 40:44Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I don't think we didn't get any
- 40:46Speaker 5: calls like that in the post game, which if we're
- 40:48Speaker 5: going to get him that half his.
- 40:50Speaker 9: Toes and lifts his feet up and his butt hits
- 40:52Speaker 9: out of bounds, it's a touchdown. Hit the ground exactly.
- 40:58Speaker 9: It's just like but I just I'm sorry, go ahead, Paul, Now, I.
- 41:02Speaker 5: Was just gonna say, it's just like the opening game
- 41:04Speaker 5: of the NFL season, the kickoff Baltimore and Kansas City,
- 41:07Speaker 5: Isaiah likely catches it pass at the end of the game,
- 41:10Speaker 5: he has one foot in bounds. The second foot the
- 41:12Speaker 5: heel comes down and comes all the way down, and
- 41:14Speaker 5: then his toe ever.
- 41:16Speaker 6: So slightly hit the white right.
- 41:18Speaker 5: That's only one foot in bound.
- 41:20Speaker 3: A lot of people are under the mistaken impression that
- 41:23Speaker 3: a toe tap ends the play. It doesn't end the play, no,
- 41:27Speaker 3: you know.
- 41:28Speaker 5: Usually toe taps are on the sideline and a guy's
- 41:31Speaker 5: leaning over the sideline toes you know, toes first and
- 41:34Speaker 5: he tumbles out of bound.
- 41:35Speaker 3: Right right, and go ahead, Patty.
- 41:40Speaker 9: I was gonna say, and like, if you look at
- 41:43Speaker 9: the defense we we I think we have studs on
- 41:45Speaker 9: defense in my opinion, that's just my opinion. Gonzales is
- 41:49Speaker 9: a stud. You know, God willing he comes back healthy.
- 41:53Speaker 9: I think Briston Marmore is a stud. I know I'm
- 41:56Speaker 9: throwing some caveats, but like legal problems with stan thing,
- 42:00Speaker 9: Jabil Peppers, in my opinion, is a stud. And we
- 42:04Speaker 9: got good guys. You know, there are no studs on offense,
- 42:08Speaker 9: or at least we don't know if we have any
- 42:10Speaker 9: studs on offense. If we if Drake May turns out
- 42:12Speaker 9: to be a stud, that is a huge building block.
- 42:15Speaker 9: Let's get the friggin process started.
- 42:17Speaker 3: Yep, that's where guys. All right, thanks Patty. Patty woke up.
- 42:22Speaker 3: He was ready to go. You know, he's not a rant.
- 42:26Speaker 3: Let's go to Cameron in North Carolina. I hate Cameron.
- 42:30Speaker 9: Hey, guys. I was listening to the Post and.
- 42:35Speaker 10: A couple of things that really stood out to me
- 42:38Speaker 10: was with Jacoby's interview and Remandre's interview. And I feel
- 42:43Speaker 10: like there was a lot of subtle shots taken, but Jacoby,
- 42:46Speaker 10: he just kept harping on fundamentals fundamentals that we do
- 42:50Speaker 10: fundamentals this and that, and then Remandre was really hopping
- 42:53Speaker 10: on that the play that's called should be the play.
- 42:56Speaker 10: It is what it is, and we need to just
- 42:58Speaker 10: run the play. Am I looking too much into that?
- 43:01Speaker 10: Or did you guys also know that something with that.
- 43:04Speaker 3: Well with the Jacoby in the front of metals, that
- 43:06Speaker 3: was the message in the locker room for from Mayo.
- 43:08Speaker 5: So I'm sure penalties. Yeah, So like I think he
- 43:11Speaker 5: said we take one step forward and like twenty steps back.
- 43:13Speaker 3: Yeah, so that's what Mayo was saying. So I think
- 43:16Speaker 3: Brissette was just saying what Mayo said the Remondre one.
- 43:19Speaker 3: I don't know what do you guys?
- 43:20Speaker 5: I was not aware of that comment. Have we taking
- 43:22Speaker 5: that as a shot at maybe some of his teammates
- 43:25Speaker 5: who are freelancing on offense? Like I know we had
- 43:28Speaker 5: defense freelancing, you know, accusations from Godschaw the week before.
- 43:32Speaker 5: Is that what that means? I didn't know.
- 43:34Speaker 6: I'm not familiar with the steam.
- 43:35Speaker 10: I mean I was in there like three or four
- 43:37Speaker 10: different times about just like you know, he touched on it,
- 43:41Speaker 10: you know, like the play call of the play call.
- 43:43Speaker 9: It is what it is we need to just run
- 43:45Speaker 9: the play that's called.
- 43:46Speaker 10: And he said it like two or three different times.
- 43:48Speaker 5: So it sounds to me like people were complaining that
- 43:50Speaker 5: they didn't run the ball up.
- 43:51Speaker 6: Yeah, that's what I was going to.
- 43:52Speaker 5: And he's saying, it doesn't matter what the play call is,
- 43:54Speaker 5: it's on us. So he's not I would say, he's
- 43:57Speaker 5: not calling out his teammates they were at all. I
- 43:59Speaker 5: think he's saying, what's on us to execute the play.
- 44:01Speaker 6: Yeah, so they ran the ball well in this game.
- 44:04Speaker 6: They averaged almost eight yards of carry and they ran
- 44:06Speaker 6: it with the running backs eighteen times.
- 44:08Speaker 5: Right, So now I'm going to get to this.
- 44:10Speaker 6: This is what I I've talked about.
- 44:11Speaker 5: So all right, the whole thanks to well, they didn't
- 44:13Speaker 5: run the ball enough and you know, they got way
- 44:15Speaker 5: out of whack and like, yeah, I mean I think,
- 44:19Speaker 5: and I think Evan said it earlier. There's always like
- 44:21Speaker 5: an individual play you could say, like, well, why didn't
- 44:23Speaker 5: they run it there? And I certainly think it's a
- 44:25Speaker 5: fair second guess, second guess on first and first and
- 44:30Speaker 5: ten from the twelve at the end of the game,
- 44:31Speaker 5: with that much time left and all three timeouts, you
- 44:34Speaker 5: certainly had plenty of time to run the ball if
- 44:36Speaker 5: you wanted to. Okay, I have to be honest, and
- 44:38Speaker 5: I'm going to be completely forthcoming. Watching the game and
- 44:42Speaker 5: watching four straight passes, I did not even blink. I
- 44:45Speaker 5: didn't blink at all. I expected them to throw the
- 44:48Speaker 5: ball into the end zone four times, and they did.
- 44:52Speaker 5: It didn't bother me at all. If they had run
- 44:54Speaker 5: the ball wouldn't have bothered me either, because of what
- 44:57Speaker 5: I just said. They had plenty of time. They threw
- 45:01Speaker 5: the ball thirty four times, they ran it nineteen times.
- 45:04Speaker 5: You do realize they were looking and one of the
- 45:08Speaker 5: narrators was in a game they were leading the whole way. Okay, yes,
- 45:12Speaker 5: they were leading the game the whole way until the
- 45:15Speaker 5: last two times they had the ball, in which case,
- 45:18Speaker 5: the last seventeen plays of the game they threw it
- 45:21Speaker 5: fourteen times.
- 45:23Speaker 6: That's where it got out of whack.
- 45:26Speaker 5: Otherwise in the game it was basically fifty to fifty,
- 45:29Speaker 5: which in the NFL is rare.
- 45:32Speaker 3: Well, that's a great example of you can't just look
- 45:34Speaker 3: at the box score after the game and make conclusions.
- 45:37Speaker 3: You have to see it in contact.
- 45:38Speaker 5: They had a fourteen play drive that got down to
- 45:41Speaker 5: the twelve yard line. That was eleven passes in three runs.
- 45:46Speaker 5: And then the last time they got the ball, obviously
- 45:48Speaker 5: they threw it. You know, it was desperation. They threw
- 45:51Speaker 5: it all three times. So I believe listen, I might
- 45:55Speaker 5: be off by a play or I might have counted
- 45:57Speaker 5: a penalty, and I believe it was fourteen into the
- 46:00Speaker 5: last seventeen plays they threw the ball. So if you
- 46:03Speaker 5: take away fourteen pass attempts, it goes from thirty four
- 46:07Speaker 5: to twenty.
- 46:08Speaker 6: Right, Is that outrageous?
- 46:11Speaker 5: They're losing fifteen to ten with four minutes left in
- 46:13Speaker 5: the game. Are they supposed to just say, you know what,
- 46:16Speaker 5: let's go three yards with the call to dust and
- 46:17Speaker 5: see if we can go seventy yards?
- 46:19Speaker 2: Right?
- 46:21Speaker 6: Like they were.
- 46:22Speaker 5: Losing at the end of the game, that's why they'd started.
- 46:24Speaker 6: Throwing the ball.
- 46:26Speaker 5: Like I absolutely think when you average, as Evan just said,
- 46:30Speaker 5: your two running backs averaged over seven yards of carry,
- 46:33Speaker 5: I believe they set a franchise record for average per
- 46:37Speaker 5: carry for an entire game. They ran the ball exceptionally well.
- 46:40Speaker 5: And it wasn't just believe me, you guys know, I
- 46:43Speaker 5: pick on these things. It wasn't just thirty three yard
- 46:46Speaker 5: run for Stevenson, twenty four yard run for Gibson. Take
- 46:49Speaker 5: those out, they still had healthy averages, both of them
- 46:53Speaker 5: over five yards of carry without the big plays. So
- 46:56Speaker 5: they ran the ball really well in this game, and
- 46:58Speaker 5: I would not argue that maybe they should have run
- 47:01Speaker 5: it a little bit more.
- 47:02Speaker 6: But this hole, like they did it backwards.
- 47:05Speaker 5: Mike, which I heard yesterday from my boys, right like,
- 47:09Speaker 5: I just did they watch the game and did they
- 47:12Speaker 5: think that it was out of whack all game? And
- 47:14Speaker 5: if you go back and you look when they stopped
- 47:16Speaker 5: running the ball, there is almost always a good reason.
- 47:19Speaker 5: If you see it, it's run, run, run, holding call
- 47:23Speaker 5: first and twenty Now we're behind the chains, right, yeah,
- 47:28Speaker 5: because they had a ton of holding calls in that game,
- 47:32Speaker 5: which by the way, wiped out a lot of runs
- 47:35Speaker 5: because a lot of the holding calls were on runs,
- 47:38Speaker 5: you know. And how many holes did we have five?
- 47:40Speaker 6: I think it was seven total in the game between
- 47:43Speaker 6: the two teams.
- 47:44Speaker 5: So four or five on the Patriots, and some of
- 47:47Speaker 5: those were runs, they weren't just I know one at
- 47:49Speaker 5: least was on a pass. But you know, they had
- 47:53Speaker 5: like a run around the end by Gibson, I think
- 47:56Speaker 5: toward the end of the game that got called back
- 47:57Speaker 5: for a hold. So now it's first and twenty, you know,
- 48:02Speaker 5: with you know, inside the too minute warning. Should we
- 48:05Speaker 5: see if we can run three times and get twenty yards?
- 48:07Speaker 2: Right?
- 48:07Speaker 11: Like?
- 48:08Speaker 5: This is all I'm saying is I think it's too
- 48:10Speaker 5: easy to just blame it all on Alex van Peltz.
- 48:12Speaker 5: I don't think that he called a horrific game in
- 48:15Speaker 5: this game. I just don't think, you know, there were
- 48:17Speaker 5: things that I would nitpick, because that's what I do.
- 48:20Speaker 5: But I don't think that they didn't run the ball
- 48:22Speaker 5: like they ran the ball exceptionally well in that game.
- 48:25Speaker 5: You want to run it a few more times, fine.
- 48:27Speaker 8: But what's a good example for what happens when you
- 48:29Speaker 8: run rights? That's your example of a.
- 48:31Speaker 5: Oh and by the way, the Dolphins had one hundred
- 48:33Speaker 5: and ninety three yards rushing and they didn't score either.
- 48:36Speaker 6: I just think the part that I just can't wrap
- 48:39Speaker 6: my head around is how they're not productive in the
- 48:41Speaker 6: play action game. It just it doesn't compute that they're
- 48:44Speaker 6: a good running team and these teams are stacking the
- 48:48Speaker 6: box and they're putting you know, seven eight guys in
- 48:50Speaker 6: the box all the time because they're a good running
- 48:52Speaker 6: team and they just generate no yards off of play action,
- 48:55Speaker 6: like they had twenty three yards off of four play
- 48:58Speaker 6: action dropbacks in this game, twenty three Like they should
- 49:01Speaker 6: be a prolific play action passing team, you would think,
- 49:05Speaker 6: and they just can't get that element of their offense going.
- 49:09Speaker 6: So now you don't have like the yin and the
- 49:11Speaker 6: yang of the run games, so can you have, Like.
- 49:15Speaker 5: I'm curious as to what you think the reason why
- 49:17Speaker 5: they haven't been able to hit more of those plays.
- 49:18Speaker 5: Is it just because or is it too simplistic for
- 49:21Speaker 5: simpleton like me to say when they're taking those shots
- 49:25Speaker 5: with play action, it's still predominantly man coverage, and they're
- 49:29Speaker 5: able to cover the guys well enough that they're not
- 49:32Speaker 5: getting Amari Cooper, you know, for a sixty yard touchdown
- 49:35Speaker 5: like Cleveland would, or David Nujoku, you know, winning his
- 49:38Speaker 5: matchup down the seam, you know, is different than Austin Hooper,
- 49:42Speaker 5: as you said, running an eight yard come back.
- 49:44Speaker 3: I think it's a combination of that and Jacoby Brissett.
- 49:47Speaker 6: And yeah, the line player. Yeah, no, there are some
- 49:50Speaker 6: man coverage opportunities where they run play action I think
- 49:56Speaker 6: of not in this game necessarily, but last week in
- 49:59Speaker 6: San Francis, they put six offensive linemen on the field
- 50:02Speaker 6: and they called one shot play play action, and it
- 50:05Speaker 6: was man to man coverage. And when you play man like,
- 50:07Speaker 6: those guys are not worried about the run, so it's
- 50:10Speaker 6: not really as much conflict. You're trying to that's what
- 50:12Speaker 6: you're trying to. You're trying to dial it up against zone.
- 50:16Speaker 6: They did in this game have a couple of split
- 50:18Speaker 6: safety zone shots where I didn't love the timing of
- 50:22Speaker 6: the play like that to me is like, okay, if
- 50:24Speaker 6: you see the two deep safeties like check back into
- 50:27Speaker 6: a run, Like, why are you calling play action into
- 50:30Speaker 6: a split safety coverage. That's not what you're looking for.
- 50:33Speaker 6: You're looking for the single high safety. So that happens sometimes,
- 50:37Speaker 6: and then they miss some opportunities down the field too.
- 50:40Speaker 3: All right, TPS outline eight five five past five hundred.
- 50:43Speaker 3: Let's go to James and Idaho. What's up?
- 50:47Speaker 12: James, Hi, thank you for your content.
- 50:52Speaker 3: You're welcome.
- 50:53Speaker 12: So I have been listening. My question it's sort of expanded.
- 50:56Speaker 12: I'll try to keep this brief. I guess could you
- 51:01Speaker 12: or would you tell us about quarterback coaching. So the
- 51:06Speaker 12: question that was just asked is why can't we hit
- 51:09Speaker 12: some of those play action playoffs and passes? And my
- 51:14Speaker 12: thoughts on Jakoby is that I think he's the perfect
- 51:16Speaker 12: guy for where we are. He's a mile better than
- 51:20Speaker 12: Cam Newton or mac Jones. But he looks like he
- 51:25Speaker 12: telegraphs all this passes. His head goes to one side
- 51:28Speaker 12: of the field and it doesn't move, And I want
- 51:33Speaker 12: to know if he can be coached to look at
- 51:39Speaker 12: if he can go through his reach fast or whatever
- 51:42Speaker 12: it is. It just looks like, you know where he's
- 51:44Speaker 12: trying to go with the ball every time, and then
- 51:46Speaker 12: it ends up that they're covered, and then he's trying
- 51:49Speaker 12: to force the ball in somewhere else and he's run
- 51:51Speaker 12: out of time because the offensive line is that great.
- 51:57Speaker 12: What I really want to know is about Drake May
- 52:00Speaker 12: because every time they showed Drake, he's on the sideline,
- 52:05Speaker 12: standing by himself and playing with his earpiece or something,
- 52:11Speaker 12: and I'm wondering why he's not on watching the game.
- 52:16Speaker 12: You know, Jacoby is not a bad quarterback, He's not
- 52:19Speaker 12: one of the greats, obviously, but why isn't Drake May
- 52:23Speaker 12: studying the Kobe.
- 52:26Speaker 3: All right, what I got it, James, That's exactly what
- 52:29Speaker 3: he's doing.
- 52:30Speaker 6: Yeah. So he stands on the sideline behind the offense,
- 52:33Speaker 6: like where a play caller would stand, and he's playing
- 52:36Speaker 6: quarterback with the earpiece in his head so he's hearing
- 52:38Speaker 6: the call. And then he's literally standing right behind Jacoby
- 52:43Speaker 6: but obviously to the side, and he's going through the
- 52:46Speaker 6: motions of what he would be doing pre m post snap.
- 52:49Speaker 6: So he's he's literally doing exactly what James was describing.
- 52:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I wouldn't worry about that. No, Yeah, he's paying
- 52:58Speaker 3: attention and he's doing what he's being told to do.
- 53:02Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 53:02Speaker 6: Yeah, I think a big part of it too. You
- 53:04Speaker 6: know some of the conversations that I've had with him is,
- 53:06Speaker 6: you know, he's not the quarterback, so like he doesn't
- 53:10Speaker 6: want to get in Jacoby and at Alex vand Pelt's
- 53:12Speaker 6: way on game day. You know, it's it's not I
- 53:16Speaker 6: know people are saying all wise and he's sitting there,
- 53:19Speaker 6: you know, as they're going through the stills and stuff
- 53:21Speaker 6: like that, it's because it's their show, Like they're working
- 53:24Speaker 6: with Jacoby. They're not there to to work with him.
- 53:28Speaker 6: Necessarily in that moment, you know. So he's doing exactly
- 53:31Speaker 6: what he's told.
- 53:32Speaker 3: Yeah, Dcent Baltimore, Hey d.
- 53:36Speaker 14: Hello, Hey, yea, how you guys are doing good?
- 53:42Speaker 15: But we all agree we want to see Drake may
- 53:44Speaker 15: play at one point.
- 53:45Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, I want to see him play, right now.
- 53:48Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 53:49Speaker 15: Yeah, but I don't know how good he had been.
- 53:51Speaker 15: His offense that Alason Pelp is calling, it's too plain,
- 53:55Speaker 15: it ain't creative at all. It doesn't make the defense
- 53:58Speaker 15: break at all. He just come on there and it's
- 54:00Speaker 15: just straight to the point. They don't make the defense think.
- 54:04Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, but you're you're could be one hundred percent right.
- 54:09Speaker 3: But for me, that's no reason not to start playing
- 54:11Speaker 3: them and maybe they can evolve a.
- 54:13Speaker 15: I'm saying for Drink, I would like for him to play,
- 54:15Speaker 15: but I don't know how it will be good. I
- 54:17Speaker 15: don't think he know how to coach this this type
- 54:19Speaker 15: of quarterback.
- 54:20Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, I think his offense.
- 54:23Speaker 15: Is like it's outdated, it ain't creative, and it don't
- 54:25Speaker 15: use no motion. Most of the teams that use the
- 54:28Speaker 15: motion is the highest score officers in the league. Yeah,
- 54:31Speaker 15: so how you not using no motion motion makes the defense.
- 54:34Speaker 3: Think I'm hoping. I'm hoping that the only reason it
- 54:39Speaker 3: is the way you say it is right now is
- 54:41Speaker 3: because Brissett's limited and once May gets in there, they'll
- 54:45Speaker 3: cater a little bit to his talents a little bit more.
- 54:48Speaker 15: But we'll say this new style offense, I think he's
- 54:51Speaker 15: stuck in his ways and make Drake May play the
- 54:53Speaker 15: way he wanted the players that it was working for him.
- 54:56Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm not as worried about that piece. But you
- 55:00Speaker 6: know the way that De's describing creativity, I mean, Dallas
- 55:04Speaker 6: and Cleveland do the exact same thing. So like this
- 55:07Speaker 6: coaching tree just doesn't believe in motion in the way
- 55:10Speaker 6: that Mike McDaniel and Kyle Shanahan and uh, those guys
- 55:13Speaker 6: believe in motion. And I don't necessarily agree with it either,
- 55:16Speaker 6: but that's their philosophy. They motion with the purpose. They
- 55:20Speaker 6: don't motion as window dressing. They're not just gonna send
- 55:23Speaker 6: a guy across the formation just to as eye candy
- 55:27Speaker 6: for the defense. If they're motioning, it's because there's a
- 55:30Speaker 6: reason behind why they think it's gonna help the play operate.
- 55:34Speaker 6: And a lot of these guys that motion as much
- 55:36Speaker 6: as you know the Rams, the Dolphins, like those teams,
- 55:40Speaker 6: they're just motioning sometimes just to as window dressing like.
- 55:44Speaker 3: So so when Kansas City runs in a circle like that,
- 55:46Speaker 3: and then that's not what eye candy, I'm only kidding waste.
- 55:52Speaker 6: The time, I mean before end looks.
- 55:56Speaker 5: Last night brought back bad memories of the Patriots when
- 56:00Speaker 5: had the four tight ends with the Scott Chandler era.
- 56:03Speaker 16: There's a Chandler, Yeah, And it is unbelievable the amount
- 56:09Speaker 16: or the how few like tight window throws Mahomes has
- 56:13Speaker 16: to make because dudes are just wide open down the field.
- 56:17Speaker 5: It's uncann In particular last night, I thought it was
- 56:19Speaker 5: amazing with how many times that happens, given you know,
- 56:23Speaker 5: another personnel loss and then suddenly that's probably was the
- 56:27Speaker 5: best offensive game of the year.
- 56:30Speaker 6: How is Travis Kelsey still so open in the middle
- 56:33Speaker 6: of the field.
- 56:33Speaker 3: Well, I mean remember back to the early knots when
- 56:37Speaker 3: Peyton Manning was our biggest rival, and you know, games
- 56:41Speaker 3: that the Patriots were, you know, Marvin Harris would be
- 56:43Speaker 3: wide open. It's like, how is that? How is that possible?
- 56:46Speaker 3: Julian Edelman, you know it's because of Peyton Manning. Like
- 56:49Speaker 3: they're so afraid and they're like, you know.
- 56:53Speaker 8: I don't know, third and fifteen might want to cover
- 56:56Speaker 8: an Edelman.
- 56:57Speaker 6: It is the super Bowl.
- 56:59Speaker 3: Yeah, three in a row.
- 57:00Speaker 2: Whatever.
- 57:01Speaker 3: Kendall's in North Carolina. Hate Kendall.
- 57:05Speaker 15: Hey, what's going on?
- 57:05Speaker 12: Guy Ken?
- 57:08Speaker 15: Hey?
- 57:08Speaker 9: I want to know how many peaks I think we
- 57:10Speaker 9: would have total in the draft of April, and which
- 57:13Speaker 9: I think we can get for.
- 57:16Speaker 3: It's kind of muffled. They can't hear.
- 57:18Speaker 5: Where could they get for Tae Kwon Thornton. Maybe a
- 57:22Speaker 5: conditional Day.
- 57:22Speaker 8: Three picky, I would like just one snap.
- 57:26Speaker 5: Yeah he's not I mean he's I've sort of like
- 57:30Speaker 5: felt like I kind of championed his cause a little
- 57:32Speaker 5: bit this summer. I thought he had another good training camp.
- 57:35Speaker 6: I was, I was cautious.
- 57:37Speaker 5: I wasn't all in. But he's just not really playing
- 57:39Speaker 5: a role. The draft.
- 57:43Speaker 8: I think they got about ten right now.
- 57:45Speaker 2: Do they?
- 57:46Speaker 6: I haven't low.
- 57:50Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, that's the only one I knew of.
- 57:54Speaker 6: I haven't in my notes.
- 57:56Speaker 5: I would think that the best they're going to get
- 57:58Speaker 5: for Taekwon Thwton is a conditional seventh round pick. If
- 58:01Speaker 5: he ends up staying on a team's roster, then maybe it.
- 58:05Speaker 8: Seems like Booty has you know, I mean I thought
- 58:07Speaker 8: Booty was was probably a little bit better than him,
- 58:09Speaker 8: maybe a little bit more consistent, But it seems like
- 58:11Speaker 8: Booty surpassed him. And now it's born Polk and Douglas.
- 58:15Speaker 8: That's probably the main trio, and you'll see a smattering
- 58:18Speaker 8: of Booty in there. But I don't I don't know
- 58:20Speaker 8: if Thornton, I mean, he might really be on the
- 58:22Speaker 8: way out.
- 58:23Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean you have two other receivers that run
- 58:25Speaker 5: the inactive list. Yeah, you know, you know, Osborne for
- 58:28Speaker 5: injury and Baker obviously a healthy scratch. But I just
- 58:31Speaker 5: don't know if there's a role here for Thornton that
- 58:35Speaker 5: you know, we should mention luck On fora threw that
- 58:37Speaker 5: out there late last week that the Patriots have, you know,
- 58:41Speaker 5: willing to take offers calls on on Thornton. That to
- 58:44Speaker 5: me is usually the precursor to a release. I wouldn't
- 58:49Speaker 5: be surprised. You know, they have a lot of receivers
- 58:52Speaker 5: that aren't playing, and I don't know how many roster
- 58:54Speaker 5: spots you can afford to do that with.
- 58:58Speaker 3: So I was waiting for an email like this, and
- 59:00Speaker 3: here it is. Jake writes, in can we get a
- 59:03Speaker 3: wrap from Evan and Fred? And what happened last week?
- 59:06Speaker 3: Patriots Unfiltered? No, No, I think it's fair. I was
- 59:10Speaker 3: waiting for somebody to ask, and I don't know. If
- 59:14Speaker 3: Evan you want to go first, I'm willing to go first,
- 59:17Speaker 3: but go ahead.
- 59:18Speaker 6: I'll let you go first.
- 59:21Speaker 3: Well yeah, yeah, I mean my part of that is
- 59:26Speaker 3: after Evan's comments, Uh, you know, I felt that it
- 59:30Speaker 3: was just so egregiously inaccurate that I scrubbed it. I
- 59:37Speaker 3: scrubbed it from the on demand version. And that was
- 59:41Speaker 3: a bad move by me. I shouldn't have done that.
- 59:44Speaker 3: It was out there, everybody was talking about it.
- 59:48Speaker 13: You know.
- 59:48Speaker 3: My instinct was I just didn't want it living on
- 59:51Speaker 3: our platforms. But I made it worse by by scrubbing
- 59:55Speaker 3: it and created a second story that was all on me.
- 59:59Speaker 3: That was no one telling us to do that, And
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: that's that's what That's what pissed me off the most
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: about what I did is that other people were getting
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: blamed for it. Uh. And I'm the one that did that.
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: I you know, Paul, you know, we've never been told, never,
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: not once by anyone on the team to take something
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: down or to not write this or to not say that.
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: Have they been pissed at what we've done. Absolutely, we've
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: gotten in trouble of those times. Yeah, but we've never
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: been censored.
- 1:00:31Speaker 15: Uh.
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: That was all on me that I did that, and uh,
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: you know it was a bad move, so meacopa, yep.
- 1:00:41Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean obviously, I I feel like what I
- 1:00:45Speaker 6: said on the Sports of is what I would say now. Uh,
- 1:00:49Speaker 6: you know, I misspoke, Like I misspoke, I used a
- 1:00:51Speaker 6: word now was way over the top, and exaggeration of
- 1:00:56Speaker 6: what was going on got carried away in a in
- 1:01:01Speaker 6: a debate. I think the one thing that I would
- 1:01:03Speaker 6: just say for myself to get off my chest a
- 1:01:06Speaker 6: little bit, is just I wasn't reporting anything like that
- 1:01:09Speaker 6: was my opinion of the situation. I feel like it
- 1:01:13Speaker 6: got a little bit misconstrued that I was reporting on
- 1:01:17Speaker 6: that we.
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: Don't Well, that's why we have to be careful, right
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: and I understand what a team.
- 1:01:21Speaker 6: I understand it's a gray area, and that's why I
- 1:01:23Speaker 6: wanted to kind of put that out there. You know,
- 1:01:27Speaker 6: that's that's not what we do. Like, we don't break
- 1:01:30Speaker 6: news here, we don't report news here. So that wasn't
- 1:01:33Speaker 6: what I was doing. But I obviously got carried away
- 1:01:36Speaker 6: and used a word that I can't even say anymore
- 1:01:40Speaker 6: because it's I remember ever again, I remember my dictionary.
- 1:01:44Speaker 6: But I apologize to obviously to Fred and to you guys,
- 1:01:49Speaker 6: and but most importantly I to girod in in Jacoby,
- 1:01:54Speaker 6: most importantly, because that was obviously totally wrong of me
- 1:01:59Speaker 6: to do.
- 1:02:00Speaker 5: Can I just throw it was? It was a tough weekend,
- 1:02:02Speaker 5: it was, and we it's it's a reflection of all
- 1:02:05Speaker 5: of us, even though like in this particular case it
- 1:02:08Speaker 5: didn't really have much to do with with me and Mike.
- 1:02:10Speaker 5: We're still all part of one team here. Content I
- 1:02:15Speaker 5: would just say number one, I'm sure that a lot
- 1:02:17Speaker 5: of you listening were like I had Paul in that pool.
- 1:02:21Speaker 5: I had Paul to say something right, and you know,
- 1:02:25Speaker 5: and I have actually absolutely been in Evans shoes, you know,
- 1:02:29Speaker 5: sort of you know, getting out over my skis a
- 1:02:31Speaker 5: little bit and getting carried away. So it happens the
- 1:02:35Speaker 5: other part. And just to sort of reiterate with Fred's
- 1:02:38Speaker 5: talking about like taking the Maya helper and you and
- 1:02:40Speaker 5: I talked about it Friday morning, so I know how
- 1:02:43Speaker 5: how much you were bothered by what you did, and
- 1:02:47Speaker 5: what we ended up backfiring. It wasn't just like well
- 1:02:50Speaker 5: people had already seen it, but now what happens is
- 1:02:53Speaker 5: just the line lives on, just the money line that
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: Evan can't say anymore. If you listen to it, if
- 1:03:02Speaker 5: you if you've got a chance to go back and
- 1:03:03Speaker 5: listen to it, you'd hear the context. And I'm not explaining,
- 1:03:07Speaker 5: I'm not excusing. We definitely we went too far, but
- 1:03:11Speaker 5: like it's talking about sort of a frustration level in
- 1:03:14Speaker 5: the locker room, and there's some context there that unfortunately
- 1:03:18Speaker 5: gets lost. Our decision gets you know, it makes it
- 1:03:20Speaker 5: get gets lost a little bit. But yeah, yeah we
- 1:03:23Speaker 5: did it. We own it and we move on.
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: And I was even thinking, oh, I'll put it back up,
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: and it's like, no, no, don't do that.
- 1:03:28Speaker 6: Friend.
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: Now you're creating a third store, you know, like just
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: just let it go, let it go. I'm my bad. Yeah,
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: so my yah too. Yeah. So you live and learn.
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: I mean, you know, like Evin said, our our job.
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: I remember when Belichick first got here, I sat down
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: with Brian Maury and you know, we kind of went
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: over the ground rules because you know, back then we
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: that you were in on.
- 1:03:53Speaker 5: That, but that was before I was shunned.
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, we were doing the newspaper back then,
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: and so we were doing a lot of writing. And
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: you know, the agreement we had with Belichick is we
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: don't break news. We don't you know, disclose injuries. We
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: don't take cheap shots. You know, we try not to
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: do that. And I think we we did it up.
- 1:04:14Speaker 5: We did a really good job of adhering to those rules.
- 1:04:17Speaker 3: We screwed up, But when you look at the volumes
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: of stuff that we produce, I think we've done a
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: decent job at that, you know. And like anybody that
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: watches our show, they know that we're as objective as anyone.
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: You know, just listen to this show right here. We
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: we try to be fair, though, and we try to
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: not take cheap shots. You know. We try to not
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: take guys who you know, can do things we only
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: wish we could do and say that they suck and blow.
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:04:44Speaker 5: We have some freedom, you know, and that comes from
- 1:04:47Speaker 5: from the crafts that want us to do it that way.
- 1:04:49Speaker 5: They want us to cover the team. I just has
- 1:04:52Speaker 5: no value if we're not and I keep track a
- 1:04:55Speaker 5: little bit, I don't listen and watch what every other
- 1:04:57Speaker 5: team does. But I see stuff, and I tell you,
- 1:05:00Speaker 5: there's teams that would have taken the game that the
- 1:05:02Speaker 5: Patriots played Sunday and they would have done a two
- 1:05:05Speaker 5: hour radio show today on Marty Marpoo and man like
- 1:05:09Speaker 5: that was really because I think he was impressive in
- 1:05:11Speaker 5: that game, not necessarily his performance, but just the fact
- 1:05:15Speaker 5: that he did everything that he was asked to do
- 1:05:17Speaker 5: in that game, playing every snap. There's there's teams in
- 1:05:20Speaker 5: the league they wouldn't even talk about the fact that
- 1:05:22Speaker 5: they lost. They would just talk about this guy came
- 1:05:24Speaker 5: off of injured reserve and in his first game, he's
- 1:05:26Speaker 5: got the green dot. He's playing linebacker, he's playing safety.
- 1:05:30Speaker 5: We haven't even mentioned that yet more over an hour
- 1:05:32Speaker 5: in and we talked about that a lot in the
- 1:05:34Speaker 5: post game show. No, I know, I know, but you're stifled,
- 1:05:39Speaker 5: stifled by the constant negativity. They won't show no. But
- 1:05:44Speaker 5: I'm just saying, like, as an example, that's the way
- 1:05:46Speaker 5: that they want us to do it. They want us
- 1:05:47Speaker 5: to sort of cover the team. And Jonathan himself told
- 1:05:51Speaker 5: me my first month here, if we lose a game
- 1:05:54Speaker 5: and you don't tell people we lost, no one's ever
- 1:05:57Speaker 5: going to listen to you, right, Like, you can't just
- 1:05:59Speaker 5: pretend that they want to gain and they lost.
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: You know, I've always it has no value if if
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: we're not honest, then you know, what's the point of listening,
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: you know. So we're trying to be honest, but we
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: try to be fair and when we can, we try
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: to accentuate the positive. I mean, I it's good for
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: us for this team to be good. You know, winning
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: is good for us. Gerard Mayo being a successful head
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: coach is something that I really really want to happen to,
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: you know.
- 1:06:26Speaker 6: And uh so, you know, I think that's like, honestly
- 1:06:29Speaker 6: where my frustration is coming from, because I want Girod
- 1:06:33Speaker 6: to succeed, Like I want the team to be good
- 1:06:35Speaker 6: more than anybody. And you know, I just let that
- 1:06:40Speaker 6: kind of get to me a little bit that they
- 1:06:42Speaker 6: are where they are right now. And obviously, I.
- 1:06:45Speaker 8: It's funny you guys had the challenge of doing that
- 1:06:48Speaker 8: after you know, when you started Paulo. The team was
- 1:06:50Speaker 8: so good over that period, but it was still challenging,
- 1:06:53Speaker 8: you know, like it was still hard for you guys,
- 1:06:54Speaker 8: I'm sure to yeah, well, yeah, you're first two but.
- 1:06:59Speaker 5: Then obviously it becomes a lot easier to avoid the
- 1:07:02Speaker 5: pitfalls that we fell in this week when you go
- 1:07:05Speaker 5: twenty plus years of boring twelve and four seasons according
- 1:07:10Speaker 5: to you, I know, yeah, so it obviously was a
- 1:07:12Speaker 5: lot easier to follow those rules.
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: An now it's the four and well, I think when
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: we had our meeting with him, it was two right, Yeah,
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: it was early, so early had the early success, to
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: be honest, and then the next year they didn't make
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: the playoffs.
- 1:07:24Speaker 5: Right, And you know what I think was the I
- 1:07:27Speaker 5: think that drew bledsoe trade was the impetus read yeah,
- 1:07:30Speaker 5: because you know, we all recall we broke that. That
- 1:07:33Speaker 5: was the last bit of news that we broke on
- 1:07:35Speaker 5: pitch start.
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: No, but in all fairness, we were allowed to break that.
- 1:07:39Speaker 5: We didn't break any We didn't do it by yeah, no, no, no,
- 1:07:42Speaker 5: But I'm saying I think that was kind of like
- 1:07:44Speaker 5: you know, but I would not.
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: Be for give another example where we screwed up, not
- 1:07:48Speaker 3: not intentionally, but I think it grew. I think it
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: was the Ted Washington uh either extension or no. We
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: were signing him and his agent called us.
- 1:08:00Speaker 5: That the Herald had a story and told us saying
- 1:08:03Speaker 5: that that the Ted Washington re signing was all but done.
- 1:08:06Speaker 5: The hell this was. Felger was actually the beat writer
- 1:08:09Speaker 5: at the time, and we were not allowed to break news,
- 1:08:12Speaker 5: but if it was out there, we were allowed to
- 1:08:14Speaker 5: put it up, and we put it up based on
- 1:08:17Speaker 5: you know.
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: Harold Report talked to the agent.
- 1:08:19Speaker 5: Right the Herald Report said that this was and then
- 1:08:24Speaker 5: and then all of a sudden it wasn't a done
- 1:08:26Speaker 5: deal and they thought that us, like the agent went
- 1:08:32Speaker 5: to the team and said, your team sight is saying
- 1:08:35Speaker 5: this is all done. It's that was, you know, and
- 1:08:38Speaker 5: that was one of those deals like wait till it's
- 1:08:40Speaker 5: done and then.
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: Well, also we could have a reliable source. Our problem
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: was using Felger as the source. Well you know it
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: was Shefter. He wasn't around right now.
- 1:08:49Speaker 6: Felger is my biggest fan, so we want to kill him.
- 1:08:54Speaker 5: So yeah, I mean, we've had those things. Question I wrote,
- 1:08:57Speaker 5: I wrote something that Bill didn't like once and we
- 1:09:00Speaker 5: had a very uncomfortable conversation in an elevator once. But
- 1:09:04Speaker 5: I and I said this a million times since Bill
- 1:09:07Speaker 5: was tough to deal with, like, you know, because he
- 1:09:09Speaker 5: never made you really feel comfortable. But he was as
- 1:09:12Speaker 5: professional with me every day after that as he was
- 1:09:16Speaker 5: with anybody else that covered the media now that covered
- 1:09:19Speaker 5: the team, You know, did I I felt like that day,
- 1:09:22Speaker 5: I you know, I was out for him, like, yep,
- 1:09:25Speaker 5: he's you know, it's like Fred's old fur. You're either
- 1:09:27Speaker 5: fur or you're again. I was again. I was in
- 1:09:30Speaker 5: the notes like I was out for him. But you'd
- 1:09:32Speaker 5: never know that. He never like ignored my questions or
- 1:09:36Speaker 5: didn't acknowledge me, you know, or any time after that.
- 1:09:39Speaker 5: He was a tough guy to for everybody to cover,
- 1:09:42Speaker 5: but he was remarkably consistent.
- 1:09:44Speaker 3: I have Bill was plenty of emails from him when
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: he thought I screwed up, and probably half the time
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: he was right. The other half of the time we
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: could have a debate about.
- 1:09:53Speaker 5: It, but it was nothing worse than opening your email
- 1:09:57Speaker 5: and seeing Bill Belichick. Yeah, but that's good feeling.
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: They never told us what to write, what to say,
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: or that's never you know. I think people have this,
- 1:10:07Speaker 3: and I've heard it. People have this perception that it's
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: ESPN up there and the commercials, and you know, the
- 1:10:13Speaker 3: mascot's working at the computer and players are walking around
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: and Bill Belichick was looking over our shoulder. That is
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: one hundred percent not what goes on here to this day,
- 1:10:25Speaker 3: to this day. That is not what goes on here. Now.
- 1:10:28Speaker 3: We have a relationship with football where when we ask
- 1:10:31Speaker 3: for and are granted behind the scenes access, just like
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: NFL films, we whatever the produced pieces from that behind
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: the scenes access, we run it by them just like
- 1:10:41Speaker 3: NFL films does. But that's the extent. Yeah, miked up
- 1:10:45Speaker 3: stuff that we do. We let the player look at it,
- 1:10:48Speaker 3: you know, because we're being granted access that not everyone
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: has it. That's the collaboration, the cooperation, which is understandable,
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: but they're not telling what to say or right. That's
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: not how it works, you know. All Right, my food's here,
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: so I think it's a good time to take a break.

- 1:12:37Speaker 18: now meets next for residential delivery only.
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: Good morning to Rod. All right, May.
- 1:12:43Speaker 19: Just heard you on EI.
- 1:12:45Speaker 20: You were asked about the quarterback situation in recent weeks
- 1:12:49Speaker 20: after a game. The next day when we talk to you,
- 1:12:52Speaker 20: you've reiterated that Jacoby was said as a starting quarterback.
- 1:12:55Speaker 20: Today you didn't go there, and I know you said
- 1:12:59Speaker 20: you haven't watched the film.
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: Is do you feel like.
- 1:13:03Speaker 21: I've watched the film. I just haven't watched like some
- 1:13:06Speaker 21: of the other things. I watched the offense and the
- 1:13:08Speaker 21: defensive film. For sure, I get the special team. So
- 1:13:10Speaker 21: what I would say is, you know, I think I've
- 1:13:12Speaker 21: been pretty consistent, and my messaging is that every single
- 1:13:16Speaker 21: week we're all or I should say every single day,
- 1:13:18Speaker 21: we're all being evaluated, and it's no different.
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: Now that's kind of how I see Thank you.
- 1:13:26Speaker 19: I just remind you turning your cameras before asking your
- 1:13:29Speaker 19: question if you can just helps them and so coach
- 1:13:32Speaker 19: can see you as you asked, the question will go
- 1:13:34Speaker 19: mark Daniel's fall up at the quarter ring.
- 1:13:36Speaker 11: Edro, good morning. When you meet with your coaches today,
- 1:13:40Speaker 11: do you anticipate talking about the potential of starting Drake
- 1:13:43Speaker 11: May and making a change of quarterback.
- 1:13:46Speaker 21: When I meet with the coach today, it's about you know,
- 1:13:48Speaker 21: we're in a solution driven business and we aren't playing
- 1:13:51Speaker 21: good football, and so we have to look at every
- 1:13:54Speaker 21: single unit and every single player and figure out how
- 1:13:57Speaker 21: we use this roster to go out there and win games.
- 1:14:02Speaker 14: Coacoda Randall, followed by Mike Riesee Rod.
- 1:14:07Speaker 11: While understanding the struggles of the offense aren't on just
- 1:14:10Speaker 11: one person, is making a change at offensive play caller
- 1:14:14Speaker 11: during the season something you'd ever consider that's not under consideration.
- 1:14:23Speaker 7: Next question, Mike Priese Gud, how would you evaluate Jacoby's
- 1:14:28Speaker 7: performance yesterday?
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: Yeah, it just wasn't good enough.
- 1:14:34Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:14:34Speaker 21: I thought we played well enough off sorry defensively on
- 1:14:38Speaker 21: special teams to win the football game. And look as
- 1:14:41Speaker 21: the quarterback and he understands this. You know, he touched
- 1:14:44Speaker 21: the ball on every single play and we didn't win
- 1:14:46Speaker 21: the game. Was four enough points to win the game?
- 1:14:48Speaker 21: And I think he would echo that same sentiment that
- 1:14:51Speaker 21: it wasn't good enough.
- 1:14:55Speaker 14: We'll got Doug kie faulbout Chris Ryan, and we'll keep
- 1:14:57Speaker 14: it with just one question and then we'll come back
- 1:15:00Speaker 14: to you. If you have a follow up question, just
- 1:15:02Speaker 14: raise your hand again, which I get to everybody.
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: Drad on the Jabrill Pepper situation.
- 1:15:07Speaker 20: Have you heard anything from the NFL about potentially putting
- 1:15:10Speaker 20: him on the Commissioner's exemptal list?
- 1:15:12Speaker 21: So you know, we informed the NFL and we're still
- 1:15:15Speaker 21: gathering information. I know the team put out a statement
- 1:15:18Speaker 21: earlier today, So I'm not sure you know how the
- 1:15:22Speaker 21: league and how we are going to handle that going forward,
- 1:15:24Speaker 21: but we should. We should find out some more information
- 1:15:27Speaker 21: over the next few days.
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: Thank you, Thank you.
- 1:15:31Speaker 19: Chris Fryan, followed by Sophie Rome.
- 1:15:34Speaker 13: Born in Draft football as well with you, I'm on
- 1:15:37Speaker 13: the quarterback situation. You know, seeing what bo Nix is
- 1:15:40Speaker 13: doing Williams and you know, obviously Jayden Daniels is doing.
- 1:15:43Speaker 13: Is that in any way make make you inclined to
- 1:15:48Speaker 13: kind of see what what Drake can do, and particularly
- 1:15:51Speaker 13: that they struggled a little bit early on and then
- 1:15:53Speaker 13: have a transitioned into being effective in the league.
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I watched those guys on film.
- 1:16:02Speaker 21: I would say each each situation is unique, and so
- 1:16:05Speaker 21: it is our situation, and like you, I think you
- 1:16:07Speaker 21: hit it on the head. You know, those guys it
- 1:16:09Speaker 21: was a little bumpy at first. Jade and Dane's aside.
- 1:16:11Speaker 21: But those guys are playing at a high level, and
- 1:16:12Speaker 21: so it's natural for fans and for the media to say, well,
- 1:16:16Speaker 21: we have you know, a good quarterback waiting in the
- 1:16:18Speaker 21: wings as well. But at the same time, you know,
- 1:16:20Speaker 21: our mentality is how do we develop him? How do
- 1:16:24Speaker 21: we get the guys on the field around him to
- 1:16:26Speaker 21: develop and and move forward from there?
- 1:16:30Speaker 19: Thank you, Thanks Sophie Willing.
- 1:16:36Speaker 22: Hi, Jerrod, I was just curious having Jabrill and Kyle out.
- 1:16:41Speaker 22: How do you feel like your safety group with Dell,
- 1:16:45Speaker 22: Jalen and Marte stepped up? Uh, given that they were
- 1:16:50Speaker 22: out kind of those two major forces, it.
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: Was very encouraging. And those guys grew up yesterday.
- 1:16:55Speaker 21: So like the way that they played, and hopefully here
- 1:17:00Speaker 21: going forward they continue to develop at that at that pace,
- 1:17:02Speaker 21: you know, there is no injury and you know what
- 1:17:05Speaker 21: Pep's going through right now, We're gonna need guys to
- 1:17:07Speaker 21: step up, and I thought they did that yesterday. It
- 1:17:10Speaker 21: wasn't perfect, but I thought they played hard. I thought
- 1:17:12Speaker 21: they uh did what we asked them to do, and
- 1:17:16Speaker 21: there's something to build off of.
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: Thank you so much.
- 1:17:18Speaker 6: Thank so.
- 1:17:23Speaker 23: Andrew kill him, Giord, what did you guys find out
- 1:17:26Speaker 23: about Jabril's situation.
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: And was the injury report last week? The fact that
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: he was on it?
- 1:17:36Speaker 6: Uh?
- 1:17:36Speaker 23: Would he have played if it weren't for this situation?
- 1:17:39Speaker 23: Just to just yeah, I don't, I don't want to.
- 1:17:42Speaker 23: I don't want to speculate or do anything like that.
- 1:17:44Speaker 23: He was dealing with an injury throughout the week and
- 1:17:46Speaker 23: so that's why he was on the injury report.
- 1:17:49Speaker 11: Uh.
- 1:17:49Speaker 21: Like I said earlier, Look, the team put out a
- 1:17:51Speaker 21: statement about it, and you know we're still gathering information.
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: Where did you guys find out about it? He called
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: me the morning.
- 1:17:59Speaker 19: Though expression Hendrew County by Phil Perry.
- 1:18:04Speaker 24: Hey, good morning, Girod. I know you're gathering information. That information,
- 1:18:07Speaker 24: I'm sure will dictate your ultimate decision. But just based
- 1:18:10Speaker 24: on what you know now, would Dabroll be welcome in
- 1:18:12Speaker 24: the building today and tomorrow?
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: You know, based on well he's not. He's not in
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: the building today. You know, he has his appearance and
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: things like that.
- 1:18:22Speaker 21: But as we gather information, he can he can definitely
- 1:18:24Speaker 21: be in the building. Like we don't know, we don't
- 1:18:26Speaker 21: know enough to say he shouldn't be in the building.
- 1:18:30Speaker 7: Thank you, Thank you, Phil Perry, Mike, is Jabrill situation
- 1:18:35Speaker 7: something you will address with the team or you have
- 1:18:38Speaker 7: addressed with the team already and what would your message
- 1:18:41Speaker 7: be to them on that front.
- 1:18:42Speaker 21: Yeah, I've already addressed it with the team. That messages
- 1:18:45Speaker 21: is really for the team. And what I will say is,
- 1:18:48Speaker 21: you know, all through training camp, all through you know,
- 1:18:51Speaker 21: the season, we talk about you know, uh situations that
- 1:18:55Speaker 21: happen around in the league.
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: So we can learn from other people. This is uh.
- 1:18:58Speaker 21: Look, as we gather information, I think the players need
- 1:19:01Speaker 21: to know about it and so we can learn from
- 1:19:03Speaker 21: whatever happened.
- 1:19:07Speaker 19: Colbert to come.
- 1:19:09Speaker 7: But I just had a couple of situational football questions.
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: At the end of the second quarter.
- 1:19:15Speaker 11: Were you happy with or I don't say were you happy?
- 1:19:18Speaker 7: But was that like the same thing that we saw
- 1:19:20Speaker 7: against the Seahawks in terms of the two throws and
- 1:19:24Speaker 7: what were your thoughts on that?
- 1:19:25Speaker 11: And then I'd love to ask you about the last
- 1:19:27Speaker 11: play too.
- 1:19:27Speaker 21: Yeah, those were the I mean, it was like a
- 1:19:29Speaker 21: carbon copy of that game. What I would say is,
- 1:19:32Speaker 21: you know, our execution throughout the season at the end
- 1:19:35Speaker 21: of the half and the end of the game, they
- 1:19:37Speaker 21: just have to be better. And that's exactly what you
- 1:19:39Speaker 21: saw at the end of the game where we ran
- 1:19:41Speaker 21: out of time once again. Uh, it wasn't the call.
- 1:19:44Speaker 21: It was just that we weren't we didn't execute the.
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: Playfall and and now great moments.
- 1:19:57Speaker 6: History and I lost.
- 1:19:58Speaker 5: Right, Well, you do exactly predict it properly if if
- 1:20:02Speaker 5: you're wrong, if you if you think they're gonna win
- 1:20:04Speaker 5: by two touchdowns and then win by two touchdowns the
- 1:20:06Speaker 5: whole game. Yeah, no, it kind of unfolded the way
- 1:20:09Speaker 5: everybody thought it would. But if it was properly, and
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: then you were wrong, it's not proper You know they're wrong.
- 1:20:15Speaker 5: And this is why I don't wrong and the only
- 1:20:17Speaker 5: one that that counts exactly.
- 1:20:19Speaker 6: And this is why I don't gamble. One.
- 1:20:21Speaker 5: This is exactly why I don't gamble, because you get
- 1:20:23Speaker 5: it right and you can still lose a because the
- 1:20:27Speaker 5: games that play all right, So did I get so
- 1:20:29Speaker 5: I got it right? Well on Aaron, So I got
- 1:20:31Speaker 5: it right? Then right, did you win or lose?
- 1:20:33Speaker 6: I won, then you got it.
- 1:20:35Speaker 11: But if you lost, got it wrong.
- 1:20:37Speaker 5: But but but just as easily they could have gotten
- 1:20:38Speaker 5: the yard and I wouldn't have covered.
- 1:20:40Speaker 6: Aaron, what's up? That's why you don't gamble.
- 1:20:42Speaker 5: That's why I do not Gamble's trying not to agree
- 1:20:44Speaker 5: with Paul.
- 1:20:45Speaker 6: This is the effort.
- 1:20:46Speaker 4: This is got it wrong.
- 1:20:49Speaker 6: You got it wrong, but I didn't get it wrong.
- 1:20:51Speaker 6: You were rubbish.
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: That's another great moment from.

- 1:21:52Speaker 3: could use a bud light.
- 1:21:53Speaker 8: I had a nice tall Boy bud light at holy
- 1:21:56Speaker 8: Cross Hockey.
- 1:21:57Speaker 3: Delightful. Now did you get announced when you watch into
- 1:22:00Speaker 3: the arena they really were going to do it well
- 1:22:03Speaker 3: sometimes look because I mean well travel Bill nineteen ninety nine.
- 1:22:12Speaker 6: MAC champion Mike Dessault.
- 1:22:14Speaker 8: Yeah, uh, now, how the delightful time there at Uh?
- 1:22:18Speaker 8: I don't know what's that aganis arena?
- 1:22:21Speaker 5: That was beautiful.
- 1:22:21Speaker 8: I didn't find the Baseball Hall of Fame though, told
- 1:22:24Speaker 8: me it was around there somewhere.
- 1:22:25Speaker 5: It was in the back, in the back, run the back,
- 1:22:28Speaker 5: you know. From my mouth, I was like, where's my guy?
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: What?
- 1:22:32Speaker 8: I at least want to go see the baseball diamond
- 1:22:33Speaker 8: where you dominated. And they didn't even get that.
- 1:22:36Speaker 5: That's even further back.
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: We were talking about the Baseball Hall of Fame of
- 1:22:39Speaker 3: the week. Yeah, I said that they I think they
- 1:22:43Speaker 3: moved it to a dorm room and Warren Towers.
- 1:22:46Speaker 5: I told you it's a different exhibit for me there
- 1:22:49Speaker 5: have I told my son, uh, was was at a
- 1:22:54Speaker 5: fraternity event at b U and he.
- 1:22:56Speaker 6: Was like, ah, this is great.
- 1:22:57Speaker 15: You know.
- 1:22:57Speaker 5: He just like love the campus and everything right in
- 1:23:00Speaker 5: the city. And I said, hey, make sure you take
- 1:23:03Speaker 5: your boys to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Recognize some greatness.
- 1:23:07Speaker 5: So I told Fred. I sent the text. I go,
- 1:23:09Speaker 5: I'd read this in my friend voice with a sniff.
- 1:23:14Speaker 5: But then I had a text back and say, hey,
- 1:23:16Speaker 5: make sure you don't really do that, because there's no
- 1:23:18Speaker 5: building that actually exists.
- 1:23:21Speaker 3: Noah from Toronto says the postgame show needs more levity
- 1:23:26Speaker 3: and less negativity. This year. We all know the team
- 1:23:29Speaker 3: is terrible. I'd rather laugh about it than cry or
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: argue about it.
- 1:23:33Speaker 5: That's why I thought, Noah from Toronto, I thought we
- 1:23:35Speaker 5: took a good step to the the former. The levity
- 1:23:38Speaker 5: part this week, I thought we had and I think
- 1:23:40Speaker 5: it was because you were here.
- 1:23:42Speaker 6: Fred.
- 1:23:43Speaker 5: You bring you are you know, you bring high comedy generally,
- 1:23:48Speaker 5: you know, like when you insist that Christian Illis didn't
- 1:23:50Speaker 5: interfere with that guy.
- 1:23:51Speaker 3: I thought the ball was whizzing by. I thought it
- 1:23:53Speaker 3: was well.
- 1:23:54Speaker 6: Timed, it was high comedy.
- 1:23:56Speaker 3: I don't know it was.
- 1:23:58Speaker 6: It was bang bang bang, but it was ridiculously dumb
- 1:24:02Speaker 6: and he was like eight yards.
- 1:24:04Speaker 3: I mean, he didn't have to tackle. But I thought
- 1:24:07Speaker 3: that the ball was already out of play.
- 1:24:10Speaker 6: That one was more questionable than Polk being out of bounds,
- 1:24:12Speaker 6: Like Polk was clear.
- 1:24:15Speaker 5: I kind of felt, what about the only one that
- 1:24:16Speaker 5: doesn't think Polk was out of bounds?
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: Just Pole?
- 1:24:18Speaker 6: I know he was, you know, two weeks in a row.
- 1:24:21Speaker 5: He doesn't know the rules, but he's trying to What
- 1:24:24Speaker 5: about Deleveret moving the ball?
- 1:24:26Speaker 6: That was bs I honestly that I didn't see. I honestly,
- 1:24:30Speaker 6: it's on the film. It's on the film, and it
- 1:24:33Speaker 6: is it is quite ridiculous.
- 1:24:35Speaker 8: Kicks the ball up and you know, yeah, turns it
- 1:24:37Speaker 8: a little bit.
- 1:24:39Speaker 5: That I think those things are stupid. I agree with you.
- 1:24:41Speaker 5: I think that happens on a lot of plays. I
- 1:24:42Speaker 5: didn't see this one. The passing eperience was past.
- 1:24:46Speaker 8: I just I just watched him like as it like
- 1:24:48Speaker 8: dawned on him, because I think he had no idea.
- 1:24:50Speaker 8: And then you know, and then Jacobe started doing palms up,
- 1:24:52Speaker 8: and then he went to like palms up, and you
- 1:24:54Speaker 8: watch it all kind of unfold, like, what who are
- 1:24:56Speaker 8: you calling?
- 1:24:57Speaker 3: That one was tick tack Dylan in North Carolina on
- 1:25:00Speaker 3: the TVX utline, What's up, Dylan? Hey, how a y'all
- 1:25:04Speaker 3: doing good.
- 1:25:07Speaker 25: My biggest thing is everyone. I feel like a lot
- 1:25:10Speaker 25: of Patriots fans think that our defense is, you know,
- 1:25:13Speaker 25: going to keep us in every single game, and in reality,
- 1:25:16Speaker 25: I think we have two good guys in Gonzalo or
- 1:25:20Speaker 25: Gonzales and far more other than that. I mean, I
- 1:25:22Speaker 25: think you've got a lot of decent guys, but I
- 1:25:25Speaker 25: don't think that it's worth saying like they're going to
- 1:25:28Speaker 25: keep us in every single game. I mean, and you
- 1:25:30Speaker 25: saw that last last week. You've seen that against great
- 1:25:33Speaker 25: quarterbacks over the last three years. I mean, it's not
- 1:25:36Speaker 25: like in the twenty fifteen twenty sixteen era. And I
- 1:25:39Speaker 25: just think we need to pump the brakes on our
- 1:25:43Speaker 25: defense and how good the Patriots really are, because reality,
- 1:25:47Speaker 25: we're not good at all, Like really nothing offense, defense,
- 1:25:49Speaker 25: special teams. It all needs major work.
- 1:25:52Speaker 26: And I'll think it up the air.
- 1:25:53Speaker 3: Guys say okay, thanks.
- 1:25:54Speaker 8: I think Evan wrote wrote it in his after further review,
- 1:25:58Speaker 8: and I agree. It's like they've really missed you one
- 1:25:59Speaker 8: Bentley right now. They just they don't have guys in
- 1:26:01Speaker 8: the middle of the field that you know, can make
- 1:26:03Speaker 8: plays and can get through the trash and can defeat blocks,
- 1:26:06Speaker 8: and a lot of times what you're seeing is that
- 1:26:09Speaker 8: those inside linebackers are just getting swallowed up and they
- 1:26:11Speaker 8: cannot get off, and it's it's a really hard way
- 1:26:14Speaker 8: to live. And I mean, I you know, I do
- 1:26:16Speaker 8: kind of question a little bit the personnel overall behind
- 1:26:19Speaker 8: Bentley because and I don't know, I mean, maybe I'm
- 1:26:22Speaker 8: being too critical because it just seems like a very
- 1:26:24Speaker 8: specific kind of job. But inside, I mean, I I
- 1:26:28Speaker 8: was okay with Mapu. I mean, I don't think he
- 1:26:29Speaker 8: was great. I do think that he's got a little
- 1:26:31Speaker 8: bit of the smarts and anticipation and a little wiggle
- 1:26:34Speaker 8: to get around guys inside and to be able to
- 1:26:35Speaker 8: make plays. It's not there yet for him. But you know,
- 1:26:38Speaker 8: Ray Coui McMillan, it was it was a struggle for him.
- 1:26:40Speaker 5: Yeah, I think I think they definitely miss Bentley. I
- 1:26:43Speaker 5: think he's a really valuable player for them, and I
- 1:26:47Speaker 5: think his experience makes him better probably than his talent.
- 1:26:52Speaker 5: And I would just say, like I think the caller Dylan,
- 1:26:57Speaker 5: he's there is a perception that this defense is like
- 1:27:01Speaker 5: elite and they're going to keep the team in every game,
- 1:27:05Speaker 5: and it's not that if that's what you're thinking, then
- 1:27:07Speaker 5: they're not that good. They're not that bad either. And
- 1:27:09Speaker 5: I've been kind of critical of the defense at times
- 1:27:12Speaker 5: over the years. I don't like listening we talked about,
- 1:27:18Speaker 5: like some of the things that Mayo said. I don't
- 1:27:20Speaker 5: like the coach saying like we played defense good enough,
- 1:27:23Speaker 5: defense and special teams were good enough to win this
- 1:27:24Speaker 5: game when there were litany mistakes on both of those
- 1:27:27Speaker 5: units on Sunday. You know, so this is not that
- 1:27:30Speaker 5: wasn't just an offensive loss. That was a team loss.
- 1:27:35Speaker 5: The defense. You know, you're playing against the team that,
- 1:27:40Speaker 5: believe it or not, scores less than you do without
- 1:27:45Speaker 5: its quarterback. Yep, okay, they had scored less points than
- 1:27:50Speaker 5: you allowed them to score Sunday in their previous three games.
- 1:27:55Speaker 5: And you had the lead in the fourth quarter and
- 1:27:58Speaker 5: let them go fifteen plays eighty yards almost entirely on
- 1:28:02Speaker 5: the ground because they don't have a quarterback. You know,
- 1:28:06Speaker 5: it would be one thing if they had like Josh
- 1:28:08Speaker 5: Allen out there and they they tricked you, you know,
- 1:28:11Speaker 5: you were playing too deep and they would daring you
- 1:28:14Speaker 5: to run because yeah, Josh Allen, he's gonna rip you
- 1:28:16Speaker 5: a pot if you play anything different. This is Tyler
- 1:28:19Speaker 5: Huntley who missed a lot of throws in that game.
- 1:28:23Speaker 5: So yeah, I don't think the defense was terrible the
- 1:28:25Speaker 5: other day, but they faded. How many three and ounce
- 1:28:29Speaker 5: did the Patriots have offensively? How many did Miami have? One? Yeah,
- 1:28:34Speaker 5: and I'll even say two, except for you gave him
- 1:28:37Speaker 5: an extra possession by having too many men on the
- 1:28:40Speaker 5: field on the three and ol punt that you forced.
- 1:28:42Speaker 5: Like the Dolphins drove the ball virtually every drive they had.
- 1:28:47Speaker 5: They should have had more points if not for the
- 1:28:49Speaker 5: Dolphins themselves with just dumping, like snapping the ball when
- 1:28:52Speaker 5: no one's looking to get out to lose a field goal,
- 1:28:55Speaker 5: having a rolling a ball back on another field goal,
- 1:28:58Speaker 5: which by the way, came after they gated a field
- 1:29:00Speaker 5: goal with a fall start penalty. Like for all the
- 1:29:03Speaker 5: things that we said about the Patriots, Miami did all
- 1:29:05Speaker 5: the same stupid stuff. I mean, they just were the
- 1:29:07Speaker 5: last one standing at the end. They were two terrible teams.
- 1:29:10Speaker 3: Like forget about Tom Brady, but can you imagine a
- 1:29:13Speaker 3: Patriots team in the past playing in a game where
- 1:29:16Speaker 3: the other team made that many mistakes? I mean, it
- 1:29:19Speaker 3: would have been over it. So I just hear a lot.
- 1:29:21Speaker 5: A lot of the Bill people came out.
- 1:29:22Speaker 6: I heard anything.
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: The Patriots made these mistakes the last four years.
- 1:29:27Speaker 5: A lot of people will tell you, like, you know,
- 1:29:29Speaker 5: if Bill was coaching this team, they'd be three and two.
- 1:29:32Speaker 3: That might be true. It could be.
- 1:29:33Speaker 5: I don't know how much better I'd feel today. Honestly,
- 1:29:36Speaker 5: I like winning more than losing news flash. But like
- 1:29:41Speaker 5: they could have won the game the other day if
- 1:29:43Speaker 5: if Bersett throws a little bit lower and Polk is
- 1:29:46Speaker 5: able to get both feet in bounds, Like, we still
- 1:29:49Speaker 5: have the same issues.
- 1:29:50Speaker 3: Same issues. And let's face it, over the last few years,
- 1:29:55Speaker 3: special teams has been not what we you know, are
- 1:29:59Speaker 3: used to. Yeah, penalties will have been a problem over
- 1:30:02Speaker 3: the you know, turnover, some mistakes, turnoversational places is a continuation.
- 1:30:08Speaker 5: So special teams again.
- 1:30:09Speaker 10: So I.
- 1:30:11Speaker 5: In that game Special Team Chad, they block a punt,
- 1:30:13Speaker 5: big play, They missed a thirty three yard field goal.
- 1:30:16Speaker 5: They have the one bad punt. I believe that Bryce
- 1:30:20Speaker 5: Baringer has like two bad punts all year. They both
- 1:30:22Speaker 5: came in those situations.
- 1:30:23Speaker 3: By the way, his bad punt is forty one yards, which.
- 1:30:26Speaker 5: Is bad for him for anyone.
- 1:30:28Speaker 6: Well, yeah, that's bad.
- 1:30:29Speaker 5: That's a bad punt and it gets returned twelve yards,
- 1:30:32Speaker 5: so it's even worse. So that was a bad punt,
- 1:30:35Speaker 5: bad situational punt there. Antonio Gibson taking the ball out
- 1:30:40Speaker 5: of the end zone Castius some yardage at the end
- 1:30:43Speaker 5: on a kickoff he and I don't know if he
- 1:30:46Speaker 5: thought because it landed in the landing zone he had.
- 1:30:48Speaker 6: To return it.
- 1:30:49Speaker 5: I think he could have taken the touch back. And
- 1:30:51Speaker 5: Evan you says that ye twenty five, so it's like
- 1:30:55Speaker 5: six yards they lost there.
- 1:30:56Speaker 6: I think he got.
- 1:30:57Speaker 5: Tackled at the nineteen. So special teams weren't great either,
- 1:31:01Speaker 5: you know. So I don't know why you, as a
- 1:31:03Speaker 5: coach go out and say, you know, defensive special teams,
- 1:31:05Speaker 5: you know we did enough to win.
- 1:31:08Speaker 6: Yeah, I just think defensively, And I get that some
- 1:31:13Speaker 6: people are gonna hear it as making excuses. But at
- 1:31:16Speaker 6: this point in this game on Sunday, you know, you're
- 1:31:18Speaker 6: they don't have bar Moore, you know, they don't have Bentley.
- 1:31:21Speaker 6: They're also down there starting safeties, who are two impact
- 1:31:24Speaker 6: players on that on the defense, so they're.
- 1:31:26Speaker 3: Down a lot of guys.
- 1:31:28Speaker 6: Yeah, and you know, you walk at some of these
- 1:31:31Speaker 6: run plays, like they're they're trying to stop the run
- 1:31:34Speaker 6: out of too high. They don't have Bentley in the
- 1:31:36Speaker 6: middle of the defense to be able to get off
- 1:31:38Speaker 6: blocks and make things happen. They don't have Dugger and
- 1:31:40Speaker 6: Pepper's filling from you know, eight ten yards off the ball,
- 1:31:43Speaker 6: and those two guys come, you know, flying down and
- 1:31:45Speaker 6: car crashes all over the place.
- 1:31:47Speaker 5: Most of the time, I agree with all that. I'm
- 1:31:49Speaker 5: just saying I'm not gonna call it anything different than
- 1:31:51Speaker 5: it was. Yeah, all of those things are true. The
- 1:31:53Speaker 5: other team lost their starting running back in the first quarter.
- 1:31:56Speaker 6: Yeah, no, that's it's totally fair. I just I think defensively,
- 1:31:59Speaker 6: where where I critique them schematically is just you have
- 1:32:05Speaker 6: a outstanding corner in Christian Gonzales.
- 1:32:08Speaker 5: Like, this guy is a star, He's he is the
- 1:32:11Speaker 5: real the best player you know for the Patriots through
- 1:32:15Speaker 5: five games. I don't really think this is a close section.
- 1:32:17Speaker 6: Yeah, he is the real deal. And if I was
- 1:32:21Speaker 6: the Patriots, and it's just my opinion, I would lean
- 1:32:24Speaker 6: as far into that as you possibly can extend him now,
- 1:32:27Speaker 6: and I would.
- 1:32:28Speaker 5: Say do like, you know how like I'm sort of
- 1:32:31Speaker 5: not as on board with the Christian Gonzalez as everybody else.
- 1:32:34Speaker 5: That's why what Evan's talking about, lean More into that
- 1:32:37Speaker 5: if you're the guy, if you're the man, just let
- 1:32:40Speaker 5: just do the Tai law thing and have ten guys
- 1:32:43Speaker 5: over there. I got this guy right.
- 1:32:45Speaker 6: They don't do that. No, they play too much zone.
- 1:32:48Speaker 6: They're still playing too much zone. And I just if
- 1:32:50Speaker 6: I if I was them. You know, remember in eighteen
- 1:32:54Speaker 6: and nineteen when Gilmore was really at the peak of
- 1:32:57Speaker 6: his powers, it was cover zero. It was Manton across
- 1:33:00Speaker 6: the board all the time, single high safety up top
- 1:33:03Speaker 6: five man rush. Like you have a guy that can
- 1:33:07Speaker 6: cover Tyreek Hill for the entire game.
- 1:33:10Speaker 5: Cooks and the Super Bowl pick and not Cooks and
- 1:33:13Speaker 5: not give.
- 1:33:14Speaker 6: Up an explosive play, one of the most explosive guy
- 1:33:17Speaker 6: in the league, and he's stride for stride with him
- 1:33:20Speaker 6: the entire game. And yet you're gonna drop out into
- 1:33:23Speaker 6: Cover two, Like, I don't understand what the point of
- 1:33:26Speaker 6: that is, Like, especially with that playing quarter right, Like,
- 1:33:30Speaker 6: get get up in the receivers faces, disrupt the timing
- 1:33:34Speaker 6: on the outside with some physical coverage, and blitz the
- 1:33:37Speaker 6: crap out of the quarterback because you're not getting home
- 1:33:39Speaker 6: with four because you don't have a bar More, you
- 1:33:42Speaker 6: don't have a Jude On like, you don't have the
- 1:33:43Speaker 6: guys to get home with four when they rush four guys.
- 1:33:46Speaker 6: They're thirty first in the league in pressure rate, second
- 1:33:48Speaker 6: to last. So if you're you have corners in Gonzales
- 1:33:53Speaker 6: and I would also put the Joneses in this category
- 1:33:55Speaker 6: two who can cover man to man? Those guys can cover,
- 1:33:59Speaker 6: So let them go and go, you know, give the
- 1:34:02Speaker 6: resources to the pass rush and try to get after
- 1:34:05Speaker 6: the quarterback a little bit. I just don't think they
- 1:34:07Speaker 6: do that enough. And the other example I'll just give
- 1:34:09Speaker 6: quickly right now, in Denver, Patrick Curtan is like the
- 1:34:13Speaker 6: best defensive player in the league. I mean, he's outstanding.
- 1:34:16Speaker 6: Denver right now is running man to man coverage forty
- 1:34:19Speaker 6: five percent of the time. It's the highest rate in
- 1:34:22Speaker 6: the league. They're running cover zero at almost ten percent
- 1:34:26Speaker 6: of their passing place because they know that Cirtan is
- 1:34:29Speaker 6: just gonna take his man out. So even if we
- 1:34:32Speaker 6: face a Tyree kill, a Garrett Wilson, whoever it is,
- 1:34:35Speaker 6: we don't have to worry about him getting beat man
- 1:34:38Speaker 6: to man. I'm not trying to say that Gonzalez is
- 1:34:42Speaker 6: on that level yet, but for this team he might
- 1:34:44Speaker 6: have to be on that level if they want to
- 1:34:46Speaker 6: get the defense back in order.
- 1:34:47Speaker 8: Love it great, n I'm fired up. You get them
- 1:34:50Speaker 8: fired up.
- 1:34:52Speaker 5: That's basically my feeling is for five minutes. It's not
- 1:34:55Speaker 5: like I keep getting chirped every time someone says Gonzales
- 1:34:59Speaker 5: had a really good game, which I still, by the way,
- 1:35:01Speaker 5: want to point out that your bible, you people your bible,
- 1:35:05Speaker 5: say that he's not having a good year. But whatever,
- 1:35:08Speaker 5: I watched games and I just used the dinosaur eye test.
- 1:35:13Speaker 5: I think he's pretty good. I think he's played well.
- 1:35:15Speaker 5: I don't understand why he doesn't cover very average graded
- 1:35:21Speaker 5: in PFF, but he does over the guy, but it's
- 1:35:24Speaker 5: not always man to man like he So he covered
- 1:35:26Speaker 5: hill twenty one times in this game, but only five
- 1:35:29Speaker 5: of them were pure man to man and.
- 1:35:31Speaker 6: It's like five and all five of them he's literally
- 1:35:35Speaker 6: in his hip pocket like they ran it.
- 1:35:37Speaker 5: I thought it was more than that. Again, is the dinosaurs,
- 1:35:40Speaker 5: Well some of it.
- 1:35:40Speaker 6: Some of it is like match zone, where like if
- 1:35:42Speaker 6: he runs a vertical it converts to man to man.
- 1:35:45Speaker 6: So those are like the lines, but they ran Hill
- 1:35:48Speaker 6: on like one of those cheap motions where he comes
- 1:35:50Speaker 6: in motion and rolls into the route and Gonzo has
- 1:35:54Speaker 6: him in man to man and Hill takes off and
- 1:35:56Speaker 6: he literally looks like he is not even running that hard,
- 1:36:00Speaker 6: and he keeps up with the fastest receiver in the league,
- 1:36:03Speaker 6: and it's like, why wouldn't you just let him do
- 1:36:05Speaker 6: that the entire game?
- 1:36:06Speaker 5: I so this week could be interesting with that too,
- 1:36:08Speaker 5: because Nico Collins is going to be out. Diggs is
- 1:36:10Speaker 5: a guy that's given them fits.
- 1:36:12Speaker 2: Yeah, you know in the.
- 1:36:13Speaker 5: Past, do you just lock him up with with Gonzales
- 1:36:17Speaker 5: on digs and worried about Tank Dell with with the
- 1:36:19Speaker 5: smaller guys, with Marcus Jones.
- 1:36:21Speaker 8: Lock him on, frustrate him, he'll turn to start tanking him.
- 1:36:24Speaker 5: He's not anywhere close to what he was last year
- 1:36:26Speaker 5: coming off but Ton acl.
- 1:36:28Speaker 6: Yeah, Strap missed him a couple of times in this
- 1:36:30Speaker 6: last game, I thought, But it's it just it screams
- 1:36:36Speaker 6: to me twenty nineteen Patriots, like put everybody on the
- 1:36:40Speaker 6: line of scrimmage, Glegg Gonzo, take his guy one on
- 1:36:44Speaker 6: one and just come after the quarterbacks, like you're not
- 1:36:47Speaker 6: sitting in these zone you can't protect is not working.
- 1:36:51Speaker 5: Houston has had a hard time protecting Shroud, been sacked
- 1:36:54Speaker 5: fourteen times.
- 1:36:55Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, let's get back to the TPX outline.
- 1:36:58Speaker 3: Craig's in California.
- 1:36:59Speaker 4: Hey, Craig, I know, Craig, crag I'm supposed to wait
- 1:37:05Speaker 4: for us there, Craig, how about I gotta let you go.
- 1:37:13Speaker 3: Speaking of Houston, Let's go to Colleen in Houston. What's up, Colleen?
- 1:37:18Speaker 27: Hey, guys, I hate to bring the mood down, but
- 1:37:22Speaker 27: I gotta to talk about the Jabriel Pepper situation. I'm
- 1:37:26Speaker 27: really disappointed by the team's non reaction basically, I know,
- 1:37:32Speaker 27: with like the Jack Jones thing and with the Kishambouti thing.
- 1:37:36Speaker 27: You know, wait for all the evidence and stuff. But
- 1:37:38Speaker 27: this is the same team that refused to uh draft
- 1:37:42Speaker 27: Joe Mixon, the same team that released Antonio Brown based
- 1:37:47Speaker 27: on my text message. And this woman had bruises and
- 1:37:53Speaker 27: scrapes all over her body and he was arrested for it,
- 1:37:59Speaker 27: and we need more evidence.
- 1:38:01Speaker 3: I just I didn't hear about the bruises and scrapes. Yeah,
- 1:38:05Speaker 3: that was repet.
- 1:38:08Speaker 5: He alleges that he has video. His lawyer alleges that
- 1:38:11Speaker 5: he has video evidence that that's not how it happened.
- 1:38:15Speaker 5: She fell down the stead, Now, I know that's the
- 1:38:17Speaker 5: that's the cliche of domestic abuse while I fell. I
- 1:38:22Speaker 5: you know, I understand where Colleen's coming from totally. You know,
- 1:38:26Speaker 5: we'll see, you know, I don't know what's going to happen,
- 1:38:29Speaker 5: But that was I'm not gonna lie. That was my
- 1:38:31Speaker 5: initial response yesterday, is like, why he's still on the team,
- 1:38:35Speaker 5: Like domestic to me, Yeah, that's the that's one of
- 1:38:38Speaker 5: the things that you can't come back from. Yeah, Like,
- 1:38:42Speaker 5: you know, I I agree with Colleen. I was a
- 1:38:44Speaker 5: little surprised that there was no action. Yeah, but I
- 1:38:48Speaker 5: don't know all the information either.
- 1:38:49Speaker 27: There's video evidence, why not release it? That was also
- 1:38:54Speaker 27: I just think that's muddying the water.
- 1:38:56Speaker 5: That also came to my mind, Colleen, because if you, okay,
- 1:38:59Speaker 5: so you didn't show this to the police, you have
- 1:39:01Speaker 5: video evidence, and you didn't show this, you might have
- 1:39:03Speaker 5: been able to avoid all of this.
- 1:39:05Speaker 27: Right you know, Yeah, no, exactly. So thanks, Paul, I
- 1:39:10Speaker 27: appreciate your sport, and yeah, let's hope.
- 1:39:12Speaker 5: They do the right thing, all right, Thanks Colleen, And
- 1:39:15Speaker 5: I just want to reiterate I don't have the information,
- 1:39:18Speaker 5: So like if it comes out in like a couple
- 1:39:20Speaker 5: of weeks that this is all made up by the woman,
- 1:39:22Speaker 5: and people go, yeah, Paul I wanted to cut him. No,
- 1:39:25Speaker 5: I don't have the information. My initial reaction was exactly
- 1:39:28Speaker 5: what Colleen's initial reaction is though, Like, domestic abuse is
- 1:39:33Speaker 5: different to me. You can't lay your hands on it's
- 1:39:35Speaker 5: not you know, speeding, Yeah, it's it's different.
- 1:39:38Speaker 8: Even bringing guns to the airport.
- 1:39:40Speaker 5: I would have cut him too. I was very consistent
- 1:39:44Speaker 5: with that. Violence to me is a different animal.
- 1:39:48Speaker 8: I just say overall, I mean, it's just so disappointing
- 1:39:51Speaker 8: what's happened to the captains, what's happened to a lot
- 1:39:54Speaker 8: of the players that they sign to long term extensions
- 1:39:57Speaker 8: have now gone onto IR or have been And you know,
- 1:40:00Speaker 8: this is its own situation, but just from a team
- 1:40:03Speaker 8: building standpoint, so much of what they invested in right
- 1:40:06Speaker 8: now is not what it's going to be rolling out
- 1:40:08Speaker 8: on the field here.
- 1:40:08Speaker 3: And so much of what's happened I think gives Mayo
- 1:40:11Speaker 3: the excuse to like all of a sudden turn into
- 1:40:14Speaker 3: a hard ass right now. You know, Like I know
- 1:40:17Speaker 3: he wants to be collaborative and supportive and you know,
- 1:40:21Speaker 3: it's the new wage athlete. But like he's he's got
- 1:40:24Speaker 3: an excuse right now to like clamp down, you know.
- 1:40:28Speaker 8: So he's got to do something. I mean, it's you know,
- 1:40:30Speaker 8: and I mean I don't think that necessarily this incident
- 1:40:34Speaker 8: with Gabriel Peppers is a reflection of the locker room
- 1:40:37Speaker 8: or those you know, Like this seems to me like
- 1:40:39Speaker 8: Gabril Peppers is maybe a bad guy and that's just
- 1:40:41Speaker 8: you know, what happened. But at the same time, there's
- 1:40:45Speaker 8: no discipline on the field, right there's self inflicted wounds.
- 1:40:48Speaker 8: I mean, those are the bigger concerns.
- 1:40:50Speaker 9: To me.
- 1:40:50Speaker 8: This is a little bit of its own headache and nightmare.
- 1:40:54Speaker 8: But just echo what Paul said. I mean, if if
- 1:40:56Speaker 8: it turns out to be true, that he's got to
- 1:40:58Speaker 8: be gone and I and I'm a fan of the
- 1:41:00Speaker 8: player on the field, you know, and that's and.
- 1:41:02Speaker 5: I just wonder to you know, until they find out
- 1:41:06Speaker 5: if it's true, Like I'm okeny, I'm curious to see
- 1:41:09Speaker 5: what he's what he's his role is this week? Is
- 1:41:11Speaker 5: he here? Is he going to be in the building
- 1:41:13Speaker 5: tomorrow when they have practice or are they going to
- 1:41:16Speaker 5: say you know what, we will stand by you. We'll
- 1:41:19Speaker 5: wait to see what the evidence shows, but you're not
- 1:41:21Speaker 5: playing until we find out. Like to me, airing on
- 1:41:25Speaker 5: that side and being wrong is better than airing on
- 1:41:28Speaker 5: the other side and being wrong.
- 1:41:29Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:41:29Speaker 5: And that's how I would wagh if I were the organization.
- 1:41:31Speaker 8: Which they might even get killed, just letting them in
- 1:41:33Speaker 8: the building, like even just let them be in the lock.
- 1:41:35Speaker 5: I would say, you know what, you're not off the team,
- 1:41:38Speaker 5: but you stay home. You're going to be an act of.
- 1:41:40Speaker 8: This, and that way is it. The NFL could take
- 1:41:42Speaker 8: a little bit of the pressure off them by putting
- 1:41:44Speaker 8: commissioners let me exemplist and saying, let's just take this
- 1:41:47Speaker 8: out of the team's hands.
- 1:41:48Speaker 3: And until this, you know, Ray Rice is the sort
- 1:41:53Speaker 3: of example that everyone uses. When that first happened, the
- 1:41:57Speaker 3: Ravens stood behind him. It wasn't until that elevator video
- 1:42:01Speaker 3: came out that the raven said, okay, we've got.
- 1:42:03Speaker 5: To well but just you know, and also the league suspended.
- 1:42:06Speaker 3: Him when the elevator thing came out.
- 1:42:09Speaker 5: Before the elevator came out, then they looked horrible because
- 1:42:13Speaker 5: it was learned that they saw the video and that
- 1:42:15Speaker 5: was I think it was like a two game suspension
- 1:42:18Speaker 5: of something.
- 1:42:18Speaker 3: Laughable and then they made it six or something, and
- 1:42:21Speaker 3: then you.
- 1:42:21Speaker 5: Know, obviously to your point, Baltimore said, we can't have
- 1:42:24Speaker 5: that guy on it right now that everybody knows, right,
- 1:42:27Speaker 5: But that's but I hope that's not the case. And
- 1:42:29Speaker 5: it's a different to I think. I don't know, Like
- 1:42:35Speaker 5: I'm willing to you can't, you can't. I'm willing to
- 1:42:37Speaker 5: have due process.
- 1:42:38Speaker 3: I'd rather I would rather be winless this year, and
- 1:42:44Speaker 3: like I said, I would rather.
- 1:42:45Speaker 5: Be wrong and find out that he was innocent after
- 1:42:49Speaker 5: the fact and have dealt with something that he's been
- 1:42:52Speaker 5: accused of strongly then the other way around, right, Like, well,
- 1:42:56Speaker 5: you know, I'm gonna let it play out. He can
- 1:42:58Speaker 5: play in these three games and all of a sudden
- 1:42:59Speaker 5: you find out he was absolutely guilty.
- 1:43:01Speaker 8: But that would make me sick, right, No, I'm all
- 1:43:03Speaker 8: set with seeing him until unless.
- 1:43:06Speaker 5: That's coming from Mike, right, I mean, biggest guy.
- 1:43:10Speaker 3: And now that said, I hope I hope the evidence
- 1:43:12Speaker 3: does prove him innocent.
- 1:43:14Speaker 5: For more reasons, yeah, like for a lot more football.
- 1:43:17Speaker 5: I hope he didn't do this, right because I hope
- 1:43:19Speaker 5: this this woman did not you know, suffer domestic abuse.
- 1:43:24Speaker 3: That's what I hope.
- 1:43:24Speaker 6: It's just it. It's tough to see to Mike's point
- 1:43:28Speaker 6: that so many of the guys that they were counting
- 1:43:31Speaker 6: on coming into this season all for different reasons. But
- 1:43:35Speaker 6: you know, Barmore, they signed him to this big extension.
- 1:43:38Speaker 6: He's a great player, Blood.
- 1:43:40Speaker 5: Clottsmore Bentley, andrews now Peppers.
- 1:43:44Speaker 6: And Pepper's you know, checks the core for for all
- 1:43:47Speaker 6: intensive purposes, quits on the team and goes home, you know,
- 1:43:50Speaker 6: like he's your your left tackle signing in the off season.
- 1:43:53Speaker 8: Really good point, Michael inconsistent. Yeah at best.
- 1:43:57Speaker 6: Yeah, Ramandra Stevenson fumbles and four straight games out of
- 1:44:00Speaker 6: the gate.
- 1:44:01Speaker 8: Like, it's just so many of the I mean, this
- 1:44:03Speaker 8: is it's crazy to go right down through it.
- 1:44:06Speaker 5: So it's bad enough that you sort of went into.
- 1:44:08Speaker 3: Can we talk about Christian Gonzales, You went.
- 1:44:12Speaker 5: Into the season sort of knowing, you know, I get
- 1:44:15Speaker 5: like Girod said, we're going to take some lumps. I
- 1:44:16Speaker 5: think that's the phrase that he used a lot more.
- 1:44:19Speaker 5: But these are some of the things you thought were
- 1:44:21Speaker 5: going to be on the plus side, and you guys
- 1:44:24Speaker 5: just rattled up a laundry list of things that haven't yep.
- 1:44:26Speaker 6: Now because just to be a little bit positive, Remandred,
- 1:44:31Speaker 6: I thought, whether we want to call it a benching
- 1:44:34Speaker 6: or what. I wouldn't call it necessarily a benching, but
- 1:44:37Speaker 6: I mean, he played great in the game, didn't fumble,
- 1:44:40Speaker 6: so there's that. I thought he handles it during the
- 1:44:43Speaker 6: week and after the game perfectly. So that was a
- 1:44:47Speaker 6: really good example by him. And you know, just that
- 1:44:49Speaker 6: that's what you're looking for, is accountability and then obviously
- 1:44:53Speaker 6: getting better and not being an error repeater.
- 1:44:55Speaker 8: And just Antonio Gibson I think has been pretty good
- 1:44:58Speaker 8: and it's been a good signing. And you know it's
- 1:45:00Speaker 8: another piece that that you know, did work out. And
- 1:45:03Speaker 8: I'm just gonna take this moment to glow about Mappoo
- 1:45:05Speaker 8: a little bit. And I think, you know Paul's right
- 1:45:07Speaker 8: about you know, did he play all that great? Did
- 1:45:09Speaker 8: he impact the game all that much? I think was
- 1:45:11Speaker 8: a six tackle or something like that? I mean not really,
- 1:45:14Speaker 8: but like I was just so impressed for a guy
- 1:45:16Speaker 8: that we spent you know, last year. I think he
- 1:45:18Speaker 8: played maybe one hundred defensive snaps the whole the whole year,
- 1:45:21Speaker 8: Is that right? One hundred defensive snaps.
- 1:45:23Speaker 5: He played like seventy plays the other day, and you've
- 1:45:25Speaker 5: only played a hundred half.
- 1:45:26Speaker 6: It might have been close.
- 1:45:26Speaker 8: Sorry I might. I might closer to two hundred. Sorry,
- 1:45:28Speaker 8: I think it's two hundred defensive steps total. So I
- 1:45:31Speaker 8: wrote he played basically half the snaps in one game.
- 1:45:34Speaker 8: So when we kind of joked this summer, we got
- 1:45:36Speaker 8: hurt the first day at training camp, and day two
- 1:45:38Speaker 8: he's out there watching. He'd trudge out, he'd sit there,
- 1:45:41Speaker 8: you know, he'd stand behind the defense, and we're like,
- 1:45:43Speaker 8: who's this guy? I think he is calling the defense
- 1:45:45Speaker 8: back there, making you know, making hands signals to himself
- 1:45:49Speaker 8: and stuff. And even you know, last week, it was like,
- 1:45:51Speaker 8: are you gonna play this week? And he'said, I hope,
- 1:45:53Speaker 8: So I hope, So I want to play. And then
- 1:45:54Speaker 8: Jirod came on the radio before the game was like,
- 1:45:56Speaker 8: I hope he can go the whole game. So I
- 1:45:58Speaker 8: just think it's a it's a really good sign that
- 1:46:00Speaker 8: a kid who look, I don't need him to be
- 1:46:02Speaker 8: perfect in his first game of the season, but that
- 1:46:05Speaker 8: they trust him that much to call the defense to
- 1:46:07Speaker 8: play multiple roles with. Like I said, one hundred times.
- 1:46:10Speaker 8: Three practices, like three real practices, which and let's be honest,
- 1:46:14Speaker 8: these practices aren't anything like the training camp run a
- 1:46:17Speaker 8: football where you're getting physicality and you know, you're kind
- 1:46:19Speaker 8: of going through the motions at least two of the
- 1:46:21Speaker 8: three days out there. So I just think it's a
- 1:46:23Speaker 8: good sign. Like I said before, they made a guy
- 1:46:25Speaker 8: like that, who and especially with Peppers now in question
- 1:46:28Speaker 8: and possibly no no longer dressing for the Patriots again,
- 1:46:31Speaker 8: it's a it's it's a that's a really positive piece
- 1:46:33Speaker 8: to take out think.
- 1:46:34Speaker 5: It might put them on the good list on Sunday.
- 1:46:36Speaker 5: We both go absolutely no idea how.
- 1:46:39Speaker 6: Well we played, But he's on the good one.
- 1:46:40Speaker 8: I mean, he's got some wiggle though to him, Like
- 1:46:42Speaker 8: like I went back and when I was watching, when
- 1:46:44Speaker 8: I was grinding the film yesterday, like I really wanted
- 1:46:46Speaker 8: to you know, am I am? I just was he
- 1:46:48Speaker 8: just out there? I didn't want to come out here,
- 1:46:50Speaker 8: you know, doing the whole band. But he's he's always
- 1:46:53Speaker 8: had kind of a quick ability to change direction, recognize
- 1:46:57Speaker 8: something and go the other way. And I just and
- 1:46:59Speaker 8: it translates, it's like he didn't look out of place
- 1:47:01Speaker 8: at linebacker. He had good size, and you know, I
- 1:47:03Speaker 8: think for some of the people who've been banging that
- 1:47:05Speaker 8: drum about getting a mobile, second level guy like you know,
- 1:47:08Speaker 8: and maybe he's not a full time week side linebacker
- 1:47:12Speaker 8: like some people might want, but but maybe he's going
- 1:47:14Speaker 8: to play an even bigger role because he's you know,
- 1:47:16Speaker 8: gonna be calling the defense. He's going to be you know,
- 1:47:18Speaker 8: I just think he's going to be a key piece
- 1:47:20Speaker 8: going forward. They got to keep him healthy in the
- 1:47:21Speaker 8: lineup and then you know, that might be a real
- 1:47:23Speaker 8: piece to build off of.
- 1:47:24Speaker 2: Goal.
- 1:47:24Speaker 6: Yeah, there was one play in the red side. I
- 1:47:26Speaker 6: think it was the play which a finally gets hunting
- 1:47:29Speaker 6: down on a sack. He covered three different reads I
- 1:47:31Speaker 6: know exactly what he covered, three different reads he recognized open.
- 1:47:36Speaker 6: He started on the left hand side in like a
- 1:47:37Speaker 6: bracket I think it's like a cover seven quarters And
- 1:47:40Speaker 6: he starts in the bracket and he goes in the
- 1:47:41Speaker 6: middle of the field. Then he gets on the post
- 1:47:43Speaker 6: to take away Tyreek Hill over the top, all on
- 1:47:45Speaker 6: the same play and I was like, that's a guy
- 1:47:48Speaker 6: that mentally is seeing the game, you know.
- 1:47:51Speaker 12: Now.
- 1:47:52Speaker 6: The one thing I would just say that for improvement
- 1:47:55Speaker 6: is just play action. You know, there's a couple of
- 1:47:57Speaker 6: times where play action plays. He he came hard charging
- 1:48:00Speaker 6: at the line of scrimmage, playing to run and they
- 1:48:02Speaker 6: threw it right by fake. Yeah, Johnny Smith beat him
- 1:48:07Speaker 6: on a crosser off play action for seventeen yards. He
- 1:48:10Speaker 6: was getting pulled out of those passing lanes a little
- 1:48:12Speaker 6: bit too much. But that's all processing and that can
- 1:48:16Speaker 6: improve over time and things like that. And they have
- 1:48:18Speaker 6: a really tough time right now covering the middle of
- 1:48:20Speaker 6: the field. So if you can add some range and
- 1:48:23Speaker 6: athleticism and cover talent to that area of the field,
- 1:48:26Speaker 6: I'm all for it. And maybe Taki Taki comes back
- 1:48:29Speaker 6: to and that's another guy that can cover and can
- 1:48:31Speaker 6: move a little bit, and they can get some of
- 1:48:33Speaker 6: these plays that they're giving up in the middle of
- 1:48:34Speaker 6: the field taken care of.
- 1:48:35Speaker 8: I just say, you hear so much them talk about always,
- 1:48:38Speaker 8: you know, film junkie loves it and get like you know,
- 1:48:41Speaker 8: and you know sometimes that but with him, I kind
- 1:48:43Speaker 8: of believe it now, like to be able to do that,
- 1:48:46Speaker 8: Like they clearly trust him on a different level than
- 1:48:48Speaker 8: they might trust other guys.
- 1:48:50Speaker 3: Yeah, Cole's and Saint Louis Hey, Cole Cole, Yes, Hey, how's.
- 1:48:58Speaker 12: It going on?
- 1:48:58Speaker 8: Hey Cole?
- 1:49:01Speaker 26: So my two cents and the whole Drake May situation is,
- 1:49:05Speaker 26: I just say, a loss of online. How we are
- 1:49:10Speaker 26: ruined Drake May, how he ruined mac Jones. And last
- 1:49:14Speaker 26: time I checked, Drake May was got the third overall.
- 1:49:17Speaker 26: Mac Jon's got the teams Nobody when we drafted mac Jones.
- 1:49:21Speaker 26: Did we expect mac Jones to get top five quarterbacks
- 1:49:23Speaker 26: in the league. So if we're worried about ruining him,
- 1:49:27Speaker 26: then we messed up drafting third overall.
- 1:49:29Speaker 15: Begin with.
- 1:49:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:49:31Speaker 8: I mean, I just think you played Drake. You played
- 1:49:34Speaker 8: mac Jones like. You didn't ruin mac Jones by playing like.
- 1:49:38Speaker 3: In all fairness, though, when they drafted mac Jones, he
- 1:49:41Speaker 3: was supposed to be the most NFL ready quarterback in
- 1:49:44Speaker 3: the draft.
- 1:49:44Speaker 5: Right. But I think Mike's point is, I don't really
- 1:49:47Speaker 5: think that they ruined mac Jones. I know that's the
- 1:49:49Speaker 5: common narrative that they ruined him. I don't think that
- 1:49:52Speaker 5: they they did him any favors and year two and
- 1:49:55Speaker 5: year three, but I think if mac Jones was the
- 1:49:58Speaker 5: real deal.
- 1:49:58Speaker 3: The ruined to stay, that's for su But I'm just.
- 1:50:00Speaker 5: Saying, if he was the real deal, you'd still be
- 1:50:03Speaker 5: seeing him play.
- 1:50:04Speaker 8: I'd say, if there aren't real strides taking next offseason
- 1:50:07Speaker 8: to ensure ensure that the tackle position and the offensive
- 1:50:11Speaker 8: line in general has a good starting place, and that
- 1:50:14Speaker 8: there's a little bit more speed at the wide receiver position,
- 1:50:17Speaker 8: like you know, then we can talk about because I
- 1:50:19Speaker 8: think those are the things that didn't help mac Jownes.
- 1:50:21Speaker 8: I don't want to say they ruined him, but they
- 1:50:23Speaker 8: didn't give him enough of a chance to succeed because
- 1:50:25Speaker 8: they didn't take care of those pieces.
- 1:50:26Speaker 5: Maybe we won't bring Brian Flores in to be the
- 1:50:29Speaker 5: offensive coordinator, right.
- 1:50:31Speaker 8: He can be the defensive probably the best talk about
- 1:50:35Speaker 8: Cover zero Matt and des moines.
- 1:50:38Speaker 28: What's up, Matt, Hey, I just had a question as
- 1:50:42Speaker 28: far as, uh, when we're gonna start Drake May. So,
- 1:50:46Speaker 28: I know you guys previously said that it should be
- 1:50:49Speaker 28: pretty obvious when we're going to be starting Drake May.
- 1:50:52Speaker 28: But when you guys think the announcement will happen during
- 1:50:56Speaker 28: the week, well, if if.
- 1:50:59Speaker 5: They're gonna play him, I think yeah, I think that yeah,
- 1:51:03Speaker 5: Mayor will tell us if they're going to play him.
- 1:51:05Speaker 5: I think London. I think that London. This is what
- 1:51:08Speaker 5: I said on on on Sunday. I just think it
- 1:51:11Speaker 5: makes some sense Fred's looking for.
- 1:51:14Speaker 3: I think, I know, I think this week's better than
- 1:51:16Speaker 3: London because London, if you're talking about getting him prepared
- 1:51:19Speaker 3: for the game, London is a disruptive week. You're gonna
- 1:51:22Speaker 3: be leaving on a Thursday late afternoon, you're gonna be
- 1:51:25Speaker 3: flying on a red eye to London, and you're gonna
- 1:51:28Speaker 3: go right to practice when you get to London. This
- 1:51:32Speaker 3: is a better week to start, just from a preparation standpoint.
- 1:51:36Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:51:36Speaker 6: I've heard London too, and I was telling you know,
- 1:51:38Speaker 6: because not that we have to play in the game,
- 1:51:40Speaker 6: but we do the travel aspect of it, and it's
- 1:51:44Speaker 6: it's quite disruptive of your whole routine and all this
- 1:51:47Speaker 6: kind of stuff to go throw him into a European
- 1:51:50Speaker 6: game like that, where it's a weird week. He's traveling
- 1:51:53Speaker 6: midweek and not on a Saturday, and then you know
- 1:51:56Speaker 6: he's jet lagged and like all this stuff. It's it's
- 1:51:58Speaker 6: just an odd situation.
- 1:52:00Speaker 8: He's never been out of North Carolina before this year.
- 1:52:03Speaker 6: Yeah, but I also think you even have a passport
- 1:52:06Speaker 6: I hope so rank. I also think that, you know, Sunday,
- 1:52:09Speaker 6: I would play him Sunday against the Texans. But it's
- 1:52:13Speaker 6: like the number one defense in the league right now.
- 1:52:15Speaker 6: Their pass rush is number one in the league, and
- 1:52:17Speaker 6: pressure a you know, so like five yeah, Will Anderson
- 1:52:21Speaker 6: and Daniel Hunter coming off the edges at him, you know,
- 1:52:23Speaker 6: welcome to the NFL, rookie, like, you know, like, but
- 1:52:26Speaker 6: maybe that's good for him. That's why I just can't
- 1:52:29Speaker 6: believe they didn't play him against this Miami team was
- 1:52:31Speaker 6: kind of garbage like that. That was just the shock
- 1:52:33Speaker 6: to me. It was like, this is such a layup
- 1:52:36Speaker 6: game for him to play against a really lousy team.
- 1:52:39Speaker 6: Your left tackle is a clean sheet tacks playing at
- 1:52:44Speaker 6: home against the team with their third string quarterback who
- 1:52:47Speaker 6: has no pass rushers healthy, Like it just seemed like
- 1:52:50Speaker 6: that was the game.
- 1:52:51Speaker 3: But Dan is in New Jersey.
- 1:52:54Speaker 29: Hey Dan, big guys, this is not a Drake may call.
- 1:53:00Speaker 29: But you could see the headlines if they do, wait
- 1:53:02Speaker 29: a week, it's going to be London calling right.
- 1:53:07Speaker 2: Today.
- 1:53:07Speaker 29: Here's here's my question. Though I don't think this was asked,
- 1:53:10Speaker 29: but I didn't hear on the postgame show today, But
- 1:53:15Speaker 29: at the end of the game when they're down by
- 1:53:17Speaker 29: six or five. Excuse me, it's fourth and fifteen. Why
- 1:53:21Speaker 29: don't just kick the field goal, play the defense, get
- 1:53:24Speaker 29: the ball back. I mean it played out that that
- 1:53:27Speaker 29: would have worked, because they would have with polkached about
- 1:53:31Speaker 29: like the thirty five, they could have had a cheap
- 1:53:33Speaker 29: a long field goal.
- 1:53:34Speaker 5: But everything changes. I mean, you could have done that.
- 1:53:37Speaker 5: I'm not saying that that would be that would have
- 1:53:39Speaker 5: been wrong. That was an option, absolutely, Dan, But don't
- 1:53:42Speaker 5: go by like they ended up on the eleven yard
- 1:53:45Speaker 5: line or whatever it was, and they would have kicked
- 1:53:46Speaker 5: a field Like everything changes, Miami's urgency to get a
- 1:53:50Speaker 5: first down is much greater. If they know that they
- 1:53:54Speaker 5: can't give up a field goal, they lose, you know
- 1:53:56Speaker 5: what I'm saying, it's much harder. Like Miami's goal there
- 1:53:59Speaker 5: was don't turn the ball over, make them use all
- 1:54:02Speaker 5: three timeouts. They can't go sept sixty yards, you know,
- 1:54:06Speaker 5: with no timeouts. And who was it how much time
- 1:54:08Speaker 5: was left?
- 1:54:09Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:54:09Speaker 6: Twenty seconds? Yeah, thirty seconds, thirty seconds. They got the
- 1:54:12Speaker 6: ball back with twenty nine seconds.
- 1:54:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:54:14Speaker 5: So like to me, it's different if Miami has to
- 1:54:17Speaker 5: get a first down to prevent you from getting a
- 1:54:19Speaker 5: field goal. Plus, even if it does work out exactly
- 1:54:22Speaker 5: the same and you get the three in out, Miami's
- 1:54:25Speaker 5: playing defense differently than they played. They're not giving you,
- 1:54:28Speaker 5: you know, that catch the Hunter Henry right right, you
- 1:54:31Speaker 5: know they're not just in the end zone. They're preventing there,
- 1:54:33Speaker 5: trying to prevent a field goal range right completion you.
- 1:54:37Speaker 6: Look at it's just it's just probabilities, right, Like what's
- 1:54:40Speaker 6: more likely? And remember it was fourth and ten before
- 1:54:44Speaker 6: Hunter Henry jumped off side.
- 1:54:46Speaker 5: So it's to pick up in fifteen from the seventeen, Yeah,
- 1:54:49Speaker 5: that being right.
- 1:54:50Speaker 6: Yeah, So converting that fourth down or kicking the field goal,
- 1:54:55Speaker 6: maybe recovering an on site kick, or getting a three
- 1:54:57Speaker 6: and out and then getting down the field again to
- 1:54:59Speaker 6: kick another field to win the game. You know, the
- 1:55:02Speaker 6: nerds would probably say it was more likely that you
- 1:55:04Speaker 6: pick up the fourth down.
- 1:55:05Speaker 8: Can I ask you, guys, did you know that's not
- 1:55:07Speaker 8: a lot of people really reacting strongly to that last
- 1:55:10Speaker 8: past that were set through to Hunter Henry and you know,
- 1:55:13Speaker 8: were like, it can't go to him of anybody like,
- 1:55:15Speaker 8: and I just I wasn't as upset because I just
- 1:55:18Speaker 8: felt like he just was chucking it up, like.
- 1:55:19Speaker 5: You saying, why he didn't just check it up into
- 1:55:22Speaker 5: the end zone.
- 1:55:22Speaker 6: I've cheened some.
- 1:55:23Speaker 5: Still shots which I don't know, I know that's what
- 1:55:26Speaker 5: I thought. I've seen some still shots that are laughably misleading,
- 1:55:29Speaker 5: like one has like Douglas running toward the sideline, like
- 1:55:33Speaker 5: you could have fitted into that role and then he
- 1:55:35Speaker 5: could have gotten out of bounce like this is like
- 1:55:37Speaker 5: a zero.
- 1:55:38Speaker 6: This this guy's everywhere.
- 1:55:39Speaker 5: Miami had everybody back, Like I just would have chucked
- 1:55:44Speaker 5: it into the end zone and hope that maybe he
- 1:55:45Speaker 5: gets deflected, you know, like you know, I would have
- 1:55:49Speaker 5: given myself a shot. It was only was thirty six yards, right, No,
- 1:55:53Speaker 5: it's further than that. I think, Oh okay, maybe it
- 1:55:56Speaker 5: was their own thirty six they took over and that's
- 1:55:58Speaker 5: what's sticking out.
- 1:55:59Speaker 3: Yeah, and if you throw it in the end zone,
- 1:56:01Speaker 3: it wasn't fourth down, right, so.
- 1:56:02Speaker 5: You know, but there it was going to be the last.
- 1:56:04Speaker 5: You might have had time for two plus, right, if
- 1:56:06Speaker 5: you threw one in the end zone, and you might
- 1:56:08Speaker 5: have had time for two plus.
- 1:56:09Speaker 6: I actually kind of liked the design of the play,
- 1:56:11Speaker 6: like I thought it was.
- 1:56:12Speaker 5: I'll tell you what I think they were trying to do. Yeah, well,
- 1:56:17Speaker 5: the one guy one guy Street, you know, the Mario
- 1:56:19Speaker 5: Doug was streaking across the field one way, catching it
- 1:56:23Speaker 5: boom to a guy going to maybe Polk coming the
- 1:56:26Speaker 5: other way.
- 1:56:26Speaker 6: But they had all the crossers going in one direction
- 1:56:28Speaker 6: boom win. So they had like the it was like
- 1:56:30Speaker 6: vertical and to clear it out. And then they had
- 1:56:32Speaker 6: three clock crossers at three different levels coming across from
- 1:56:36Speaker 6: the left to right, and like all three crossers are
- 1:56:39Speaker 6: going into the sideline, like pretty well designed play where
- 1:56:42Speaker 6: you think, you know, if I hit one of these levels,
- 1:56:45Speaker 6: then the guy's gonna have a chance to get out
- 1:56:46Speaker 6: of bounds. The problem was is that I had Hunter.
- 1:56:49Speaker 6: The ball just stopped Hunter Henry in the middle of
- 1:56:51Speaker 6: the field instead of carrying him into the sideline. But
- 1:56:55Speaker 6: you know, I he might have been able to get
- 1:56:58Speaker 6: it to pop on the second level crosser. I don't
- 1:57:00Speaker 6: know if the safety might make the tack.
- 1:57:02Speaker 5: And I don't know that that's what they were trying
- 1:57:04Speaker 5: to do, but I just wonder, like, do you have
- 1:57:06Speaker 5: a better chance of maybe hitting someone on a dead
- 1:57:09Speaker 5: run across the field and having them lateral or just
- 1:57:11Speaker 5: throwing one up for grabs in the air.
- 1:57:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:57:13Speaker 6: So he had said on the EI that he go
- 1:57:16Speaker 6: al Mary, Yeah, that he was that the design of
- 1:57:19Speaker 6: the play is to hit pop at the second level
- 1:57:21Speaker 6: crosser and so then you're out of bounds at like
- 1:57:23Speaker 6: the thirty or something like that.
- 1:57:24Speaker 5: And I know people had that still shot of that.
- 1:57:27Speaker 5: I don't think he was wide open now as some people.
- 1:57:29Speaker 6: The safety is sitting on it.
- 1:57:30Speaker 5: So the safety is you know, some outlets are reporting
- 1:57:33Speaker 5: that he was wide open on that and they missed
- 1:57:34Speaker 5: him some outlets.
- 1:57:36Speaker 3: Okay, all right, that's gonna be it for this.
