- 0:21Speaker 1: Welcome to the Potter's Touch. I am your host for today,
- 0:24Speaker 1: Sarah Henson, and I cannot wait for you to hear
- 0:27Speaker 1: this message called What's the Big Idea? It is for
- 0:30Speaker 1: anyone who thinks that they are a planner. Sometimes God
- 0:34Speaker 1: will shake up your life so that he can put
- 0:36Speaker 1: his plan in front of your plan. If you're going
- 0:39Speaker 1: through this shakedown, you need this message. Take a look
- 0:43Speaker 1: and be blessed.
- 0:45Speaker 2: When injustices occur, we always look for lotching. We are
- 0:51Speaker 2: such rational people. We try to reason, how did this happen?
- 0:58Speaker 2: Why are you leaving me? I was good to you?
- 1:01Speaker 2: Why why do you treat me like that? I've been
- 1:04Speaker 2: good to you? Why are you cheating on me? I've
- 1:08Speaker 2: been good to you? Why we look for logic to life.
- 1:14Speaker 2: If you look for logic, you're gonna go crazy, because
- 1:21Speaker 2: life actually like it drank a fifth of Gordon Stin.
- 1:27Speaker 2: You get a good fifth in you, you might say anything,
- 1:29Speaker 2: It doesn't even make any sense. She just you ever
- 1:32Speaker 2: seen old drunk go to crying that they don't even
- 1:34Speaker 2: know what they was laughing a minute agoing? You know,
- 1:37Speaker 2: my mama died and you think she just died thirty
- 1:41Speaker 2: years ago mama every time. Oh my god, I'm preaching
- 1:54Speaker 2: somebody's life. Every time Joseph thought things were gonna get better,
- 2:01Speaker 2: the Middy Knights came down there and they bought him
- 2:04Speaker 2: for twenty pieces of silver and brought him out, and
- 2:07Speaker 2: he thought, at least I'm out of the pit. You know,
- 2:10Speaker 2: I'm enslaved, but I'm out of the pit. And when
- 2:13Speaker 2: you've been down real low, bad looks good. Some of
- 2:20Speaker 2: y'all don't know, because you've never really been down. But
- 2:23Speaker 2: when you've been down real low, you can't trust your
- 2:25Speaker 2: own judgment because bad will look good when you've been
- 2:29Speaker 2: real lonely. Can't nobody even hug you in church because
- 2:37Speaker 2: it can't nobody just smile at you anything, because any
- 2:40Speaker 2: sign of attention or affection or admiration or anything like that,
- 2:46Speaker 2: you don't even evaluate. I don't know this person. I
- 2:49Speaker 2: don't know it. You're just so desperate for any sign
- 2:53Speaker 2: of hope that you then fell in love because they
- 2:56Speaker 2: handed you the communion stuff. Oh the moment I saw.
- 3:09Speaker 2: And when you when you know you're vulnerable, you can't
- 3:12Speaker 2: trust your own judgment because terrible makes bad look good.
- 3:20Speaker 2: And so you thought things were getting better and he
- 3:23Speaker 2: went to work for Potiphar's house, and for season things
- 3:26Speaker 2: were going really good. And and then they lied on
- 3:29Speaker 2: him again. They lied on him before, and now they're
- 3:33Speaker 2: lying on him again. And they lied on him and
- 3:37Speaker 2: everything turned bad, lied before, lied again to keep lying.
- 3:46Speaker 2: It's it feels like a cycle. Have you ever gone
- 3:50Speaker 2: through something that you say, this is just another version
- 3:53Speaker 2: of something I went through before? And and and uh
- 3:59Speaker 2: the names have changed, you know. Last time he was
- 4:06Speaker 2: on the highway, This time it's in the alley. Last
- 4:08Speaker 2: time we're on the bridge. This time we're on the
- 4:10Speaker 2: front porch. But it's the same cycle of pain. And
- 4:16Speaker 2: if you're not careful, you will mistake the process to
- 4:21Speaker 2: be your purpose. You will think that the process is
- 4:28Speaker 2: your purpose, and you will misalign yourself with your process
- 4:32Speaker 2: and say, I'm not supposed to have it any better.
- 4:34Speaker 2: And even if God were to offer you something better,
- 4:36Speaker 2: you would not be attracted to it because you have
- 4:39Speaker 2: fallen in love with the process and not the promise
- 4:44Speaker 2: and not the purpose. Every time he went up, he
- 4:48Speaker 2: went back down again, And every time he went up
- 4:50Speaker 2: and went But now he's running from Potterfar's wife, who
- 4:54Speaker 2: she's this crazy broad is chasing him around the bed
- 4:58Speaker 2: and out the door and through the windows, and he's
- 5:00Speaker 2: trying to hold onto his job because the brother like
- 5:03Speaker 2: him needs a job and trying to make good. You
- 5:06Speaker 2: know how when you've been down and you get a
- 5:08Speaker 2: chance say good, you're holding on the good for dear life.
- 5:11Speaker 2: And now she'd have messed around and he didn't lost
- 5:13Speaker 2: his chance, said good behind something that he didn't even
- 5:16Speaker 2: want her, no way, and she was tripping and she lied.
- 5:20Speaker 2: And now he's in jail through no fault of his own.
- 5:23Speaker 2: And he's sitting up here just looking at his life,
- 5:26Speaker 2: you know, just saying, how in the world did I
- 5:30Speaker 2: get here? I thought that by this age I would
- 5:36Speaker 2: be so much further. I thought that by this age
- 5:39Speaker 2: I would be here. When I was a little kid,
- 5:42Speaker 2: I did not say this is what I wanted to be.
- 5:44Speaker 2: I didn't sign up to live life like this. I
- 5:47Speaker 2: didn't sign up to deal with the issues I'm dealing
- 5:49Speaker 2: with right now. I didn't sign up for any of
- 5:52Speaker 2: this at all. I did not sign up to go
- 5:56Speaker 2: through this kind of hell. This is not what I
- 5:59Speaker 2: was creating to be, But this is where I am.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Maybe this is all I'm ever going to be and
- 6:10Speaker 2: in the midst of this painful experience down in prison,
- 6:15Speaker 2: he's gifted. He's gifted. And if you got a gift,
- 6:22Speaker 2: I don't care where people put you. If you got
- 6:26Speaker 2: a gift, you just got a gift. You just got
- 6:32Speaker 2: a gift. The last time I heard I'm Satisfied with Jesus,
- 6:39Speaker 2: it was like a twenty something year old girl singing
- 6:42Speaker 2: it to me through a glass cage from a maximum
- 6:46Speaker 2: security prison where she was waiting to be executed. And
- 6:51Speaker 2: I have never heard anybody sing like Erica Shepherd sang
- 6:56Speaker 2: to me through the bars in my life, most amazing voice,
- 7:02Speaker 2: locked up in prison, waiting to be executed, singing like
- 7:06Speaker 2: she could be a recording artist from a prison. The
- 7:10Speaker 2: prison had stripped her clothes, she had no makeup, she
- 7:13Speaker 2: had no dignity, she hadn't been to the beauty shop.
- 7:16Speaker 2: She had none of the things that you take for granted,
- 7:18Speaker 2: and she still had a song. It is funny how
- 7:22Speaker 2: you could be all dressed up and having all this
- 7:24Speaker 2: makeup and all these clothes and all these suits and stuff,
- 7:27Speaker 2: and you lost your song. If the cage's bird can sing,
- 7:33Speaker 2: if the inmate can sing, if the elderly with arthritis
- 7:39Speaker 2: and backs and swollen ankles can get up and dance
- 7:43Speaker 2: and rejoice and run all over the church. If people
- 7:45Speaker 2: can roll in here in wheelchairs and shake the side
- 7:49Speaker 2: for the wheelchair and praise the Lord, how can you,
- 7:52Speaker 2: with your healthy glass straw self sit there and lose
- 7:58Speaker 2: your joint when you walk and hear and drove up
- 8:01Speaker 2: here and moved up here. Joseph is operating his gift
- 8:10Speaker 2: from a prison. He's gifted in a prison. The oxymorons
- 8:17Speaker 2: in life, and on one side, I'm gifted and on
- 8:21Speaker 2: the other side, I'm bound. Oh I could stay there
- 8:26Speaker 2: all day, because sometimes your life makes no sense. How
- 8:33Speaker 2: could somebody as gifted as me have this kind of problem?
- 8:39Speaker 2: Anybody every thought, it's just me. He's just me, Am
- 8:41Speaker 2: I the only one you know. You would think that
- 8:44Speaker 2: if I was going to be in prison, I would
- 8:46Speaker 2: not have any gift, or you would think if I
- 8:48Speaker 2: was this gifted, I wouldn't be in prison. But here's
- 8:51Speaker 2: the conflict of life that it can be the best
- 8:54Speaker 2: and worst moment in your life all at the same time.
- 9:00Speaker 2: And it's weird to me because people see the good
- 9:03Speaker 2: part and hates you over the giod part, never knowing
- 9:09Speaker 2: that you're dealing with stuff that's worse than what they're
- 9:12Speaker 2: dealing with and they can't even see. And so Joseph
- 9:18Speaker 2: ministers his gift from and from a prison seal. He translates,
- 9:25Speaker 2: interprets the dreams of the butler and the baker, and
- 9:29Speaker 2: he does it from a jail cell. And he's helping
- 9:31Speaker 2: other people and can't help his self. Is then funny
- 9:36Speaker 2: how when you start talking about living on purpose, how
- 9:38Speaker 2: you go through a season where you can help other
- 9:42Speaker 2: people and can't help yourself. I bet you the best
- 9:49Speaker 2: advice you ever gave was for somebody else. You know
- 9:55Speaker 2: exactly how they can get out. You know exactly what
- 9:59Speaker 2: they need to do to get a breakthrough, You know
- 10:01Speaker 2: exactly what they need to have a happy home. You
- 10:04Speaker 2: know exactly what they need you talk about it. That's
- 10:07Speaker 2: the thing that drives me crazy about gossipers. I am
- 10:10Speaker 2: amazed at people who have the nerve to be talking
- 10:12Speaker 2: about other people when your life is in a mess
- 10:15Speaker 2: and all myself and you sit up pointing to somebody
- 10:18Speaker 2: else and you know what tie, You know what she
- 10:21Speaker 2: ot to do? Girl, she crazy, and you got a
- 10:24Speaker 2: mess way bigger than the one you're talking about. That's
- 10:27Speaker 2: how it is still to come on the Potter's House.
- 10:31Speaker 2: I don't even understand myself how I made it. I
- 10:35Speaker 2: don't even know how I got to hear myself. I
- 10:38Speaker 2: don't even know why I didn't die myself. I thought
- 10:41Speaker 2: I was gonna die. It felt like I was gonna die.
- 10:44Speaker 2: My emotion said I was gonna die. But somehow Allah
- 10:48Speaker 2: God kept me going. TPT. God be in the glorie.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Everybody's being promoted but you. Everybody's being recognized with you.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Everybody's being loved, but you.
- 11:02Speaker 3: Your opposition is your opportunity. When you ask Watch the
- 11:06Speaker 3: Big Idea, you.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Got talent, but you're overlooked, and God allowed it to
- 11:10Speaker 2: be sold because there's power in being overlooked. When you've
- 11:15Speaker 2: been hitdled back a long time and you finally do
- 11:18Speaker 2: get an opportunity to get a release, you say, I'm
- 11:21Speaker 2: gonna live on purpose. Somebody to dinner by.
- 11:26Speaker 3: We'd like to give you Bishop jakeson illuminating message Watch
- 11:29Speaker 3: the Big Idea on DVD. Just visit our website. We're
- 11:32Speaker 3: called one eight hundred Bishop to today.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Cloverd to God touch Somebody say save the best wine
- 11:48Speaker 2: for last. He made you wait for it, He made
- 11:52Speaker 2: you set forward, He made you frustrated. He didn't serve
- 11:56Speaker 2: you with your thoughts ornaments, sir. He didn't points out,
- 11:59Speaker 2: He didn't let get no, sir. He didn't let you
- 12:01Speaker 2: sit there and sit there and you say hello, when
- 12:05Speaker 2: am I gonna have it? Then? And he said be
- 12:07Speaker 2: still that. And finally, after years, I asked, brother, how long?
- 12:29Speaker 2: How many weeks or months or years did it take
- 12:33Speaker 2: him to get to the place that he could forgive?
- 12:37Speaker 2: He answered me in decades. Did you know what I'm saying?
- 12:43Speaker 2: I said about weeks, months and years? He answered me
- 12:46Speaker 2: in decade. He said, well, it wasn't in the eighties.
- 12:55Speaker 2: He then maybe up around the middle of the nineties.
- 13:03Speaker 2: Joseph finally gets out a prison, finally gets out. Everybody
- 13:16Speaker 2: spends all the time talking about what happened til he
- 13:20Speaker 2: got out, m But the real power is that he
- 13:26Speaker 2: did get out, and when he did get out, he
- 13:37Speaker 2: did better than the people who had never been in.
- 13:42Speaker 2: That's that's up. Yah. A group of my friends and
- 13:50Speaker 2: I were having a debate about how people can come
- 13:52Speaker 2: to our country and be more disciplined than us and
- 13:55Speaker 2: go to school and take night classes and don't party
- 13:58Speaker 2: and don't get drunk and don't get high. And while
- 14:00Speaker 2: we're trying to take the easiest major that's available to us,
- 14:04Speaker 2: they're graduating with degrees in chemical engineering and robotical science
- 14:08Speaker 2: and philosophy. And you wonder how in the world somebody
- 14:11Speaker 2: who can barely speak the language comes over here and
- 14:14Speaker 2: does better than we did. It's because when you've been
- 14:17Speaker 2: held back a long time and you finally do get
- 14:21Speaker 2: an opportunity to get a release, you say, I'm gonna
- 14:24Speaker 2: live on purpose. I'm totally on purpose. I didn't come
- 14:27Speaker 2: here to get high. I didn't come here to snore it.
- 14:30Speaker 2: I didn't come here to drop it like it's high.
- 14:32Speaker 2: I didn't come here for none of that. I came
- 14:34Speaker 2: here with focus because I'm gonna get my life on purpose.
- 14:37Speaker 2: I got something to do. I got a time to
- 14:39Speaker 2: reclaim God restoring to me the years set the take
- 14:43Speaker 2: of worm and the palmer worm and the lock, and
- 14:46Speaker 2: say it up, somebody, Hollah, get it back. You sitting
- 14:56Speaker 2: around just chilling. I ain't going to class today. I'm tired.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Sometimes God holds you back, restricts you so that when
- 15:13Speaker 2: he releases you, you really have appreciation. You talking about
- 15:20Speaker 2: a woman that a really appreciated man. I mean, for real,
- 15:26Speaker 2: it's really the one that ain't never had none. Just Lord,
- 15:29Speaker 2: if I ever did have a husband to cook for,
- 15:32Speaker 2: if I did, I'd roll this. I run his bad father.
- 15:35Speaker 2: You don't see married women saying that stuff too much,
- 15:42Speaker 2: sitting up planning how good you're gonna treat somebody, because
- 15:45Speaker 2: when you've always had it, you take it for granted.
- 15:49Speaker 2: But when you've never had it, you're so grateful for
- 15:52Speaker 2: what other people call ordinary. I've always been taking care of,
- 16:02Speaker 2: always been sheltered, always been covered, You're always can easily
- 16:06Speaker 2: make you unthankful. When Joseph got out, ooh, he shot
- 16:13Speaker 2: right to the top, right to the top. There. He
- 16:17Speaker 2: is an inmate one day and the next day he's
- 16:21Speaker 2: riding in the chariot behind Pharaoh in Egypt. He's not
- 16:26Speaker 2: even an Egyptian, and he's running the Egyptian economy. Let
- 16:31Speaker 2: me explain this to you. He is in control of
- 16:35Speaker 2: the gross national economy for a country that he is
- 16:39Speaker 2: not even from. He bawling, shot calling down with it,
- 16:55Speaker 2: got it going home. He don the fan. Nobody would
- 17:02Speaker 2: believe that you could come from that and go to this.
- 17:06Speaker 2: He is there, He had the ride, he had the
- 17:09Speaker 2: maid It see some of you can't give your real
- 17:12Speaker 2: testimony because if people would have seen you yesterday, they
- 17:16Speaker 2: would never believe that Elda Haley over here used to
- 17:20Speaker 2: be that over there. But to God being the glory
- 17:31Speaker 2: touch a naer say, you can't handle my truth. If
- 17:35Speaker 2: I told you what I've been through, you couldn't handle it.
- 17:39Speaker 2: I just gave you a water down testimony because you
- 17:42Speaker 2: wouldn't believe the hell I've been through to getting where
- 17:46Speaker 2: I am. Purpose doesn't have anything to do with place
- 18:08Speaker 2: or space. It doesn't have anything to do with address
- 18:13Speaker 2: and locations zip codes. Purpose can exist in a prison.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Purpose can exist in a painful place, isolation, isolation, demotion, segregation, adversity, trauma,
- 18:36Speaker 2: divorce cannot destroy purpose, so that's good health. Purpose can
- 18:48Speaker 2: exist in the desert with no water, no care, no development,
- 18:55Speaker 2: no nurturing, no nourishment, and you can steal live on purpose.
- 19:04Speaker 2: In fact, purpose is the only thing that sustains you
- 19:06Speaker 2: in the desert. It keeps you from dying. You know
- 19:11Speaker 2: why Jesus couldn't die on the whipping post, even though
- 19:14Speaker 2: they whipped him with a cat of nine tails until
- 19:16Speaker 2: his entriiols were hanging out, his intestines were hanging out.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Before he got to the cross, he had been beaten
- 19:24Speaker 2: so severely that most people died on the whipping post.
- 19:27Speaker 2: You know why Jesus didn't die on the whipping post. Purpose.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Purpose will keep you alive in places that would have
- 19:37Speaker 2: killed anybody else. But some kind of way you survived it.
- 19:41Speaker 2: You bled, you cried, it hurt, but you made it
- 19:45Speaker 2: because it was written, she shall not die here. I
- 19:49Speaker 2: have a place for her to go. And some of
- 19:52Speaker 2: you are living on purpose and you don't even know it.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Anybody else that have been through what you've been through
- 19:57Speaker 2: would a lost her mind. God come leading me crazy
- 20:01Speaker 2: and threw in the town. But because God had another
- 20:04Speaker 2: purpose for your life. Cancer couldn't kill you. Liars couldn't
- 20:09Speaker 2: kill you. Hatred couldn't kill your miless couldn't Oh my God,
- 20:25Speaker 2: am I helping anybody? Am I helping anybody? Slapped somebody
- 20:30Speaker 2: and tell them I'm a survivor. I don't even understand
- 20:34Speaker 2: myself how I made it. I don't even know how
- 20:37Speaker 2: I got to hear myself. I don't even know why
- 20:40Speaker 2: I didn't die myself. I thought I was gonna die.
- 20:43Speaker 2: It felt like I was gonna die. My emotions said
- 20:46Speaker 2: I was gonna die, but somehow Allah God kept me
- 20:50Speaker 2: going till God be the Gold. I have tried all
- 21:13Speaker 2: of my life to understand why God uses people, and
- 21:21Speaker 2: especially certain people, because if you get close enough to
- 21:25Speaker 2: anybody that God uses, and you have this superhero ideology
- 21:31Speaker 2: of who they are, but if you really get to
- 21:34Speaker 2: know them, they're crazy too. That's the truth. And it
- 21:46Speaker 2: blew my mind because I thought a too bouteque. You
- 21:54Speaker 2: would think that you were this super special individual who
- 21:59Speaker 2: was just above everybody else, and God used you because
- 22:02Speaker 2: of the superior quality of the equipment. This is crazy,
- 22:09Speaker 2: the drunk water bug. And yet you'll get it when
- 22:18Speaker 2: you get home. But you know, so I tried to
- 22:24Speaker 2: understand why God used Joseph because now, let's be fair
- 22:27Speaker 2: with his brothers, I can kind of understand why they
- 22:30Speaker 2: would have an attitude. You know. I raised twins, and
- 22:35Speaker 2: I was very careful that if I bought one twin
- 22:38Speaker 2: a toy, I brought the other twin a toy. So
- 22:40Speaker 2: I always had to multiply by two. It wasn't gonna
- 22:43Speaker 2: be no one bicycle, it had to be two. If
- 22:45Speaker 2: it's gonna be one set of middens, it had to
- 22:47Speaker 2: be two cents of middens. We could my sister could
- 22:50Speaker 2: live off a dozen eggs for a week. I told her,
- 22:52Speaker 2: my sister, we would blow a dozen eggs in one
- 22:55Speaker 2: breakfast easy. She said really, I say, yeah, yeah. We
- 22:59Speaker 2: had five kids. You know, it was like feeding the
- 23:02Speaker 2: United Nations. They bring my groceries home in a truck.
- 23:09Speaker 2: I lost my ability to cook for one person. There's
- 23:11Speaker 2: just no excitement at all. And it was always like
- 23:15Speaker 2: that because you try to be fair. Try to be fair,
- 23:18Speaker 2: Try to be fair, try to be just. I understand
- 23:20Speaker 2: these brothers because I mean, hey, Dad, i'm your son too.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Why would you give him the Code of Many Colors
- 23:29Speaker 2: and not give it to me? You had me first.
- 23:34Speaker 2: I'm the oldest. I was working in the fields when
- 23:36Speaker 2: Joseph wasn't even born. See, there's bitterness. All bitterness does
- 23:41Speaker 2: not come through what happened. Some bitterness comes through what
- 23:45Speaker 2: didn't happen. You know, how come it didn't happen for me?
- 23:57Speaker 2: And I don't care who you are, and you might
- 23:58Speaker 2: not admit it, but when you see God blessing other
- 24:01Speaker 2: people and you know they ain't no better than you.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Sometimes they worse, I mean you just a little off.
- 24:09Speaker 2: They plumb out right crazy, and you find God blessing them,
- 24:14Speaker 2: and you've been in the background waiting a long time.
- 24:17Speaker 2: You say, this makes it sense. I might. I don't
- 24:20Speaker 2: think I would have thrown him in the pit, but
- 24:21Speaker 2: I can understand the frustration over what didn't happen. When
- 24:26Speaker 2: you start talking about letting it go. It's not always
- 24:29Speaker 2: letting go of what did happen, it's letting go of
- 24:34Speaker 2: what didn't happen.
- 24:39Speaker 1: We have to stop the message right there. But I
