Transcript
- 1:05Emeal Zwayne: And look when you're living with God himself as your purpose.
- 1:09Emeal Zwayne: It allows you the ability to endure the unthinkable.
- 1:14Emeal Zwayne: I mean, think of Paul's heart, right Again, driven not only to know his maker, be known by his maker, but make his maker known.
- 1:19Emeal Zwayne: Listen to what he said to the Ephesians, to the Ephesian elders, in Acts 20, 22 to 24.
- 1:25Emeal Zwayne: He said and see, now I go bound in the spirit to Jerusalem, not knowing the things that will happen to me there, except he's saying I don't know what's going to go on, except I know this the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me.
- 1:45Emeal Zwayne: So he didn't know what was going to happen.
- 1:47Emeal Zwayne: I don't know about any good stuff, but I know this I got chains coming, I got tribulation coming.
- 1:52Emeal Zwayne: And then he says this but none of these things move me.
- 1:59Emeal Zwayne: What a focus, yeah, I mean, but that in and of itself, like we could spend an hour just talking on that.
- 2:07Emeal Zwayne: None of these things move me.
- 2:08Emeal Zwayne: Because ultimately that's what it comes down to, right, like what I said earlier staying our course, not being moved, swayed by oh, my car broke down.
- 2:16Emeal Zwayne: Oh, I have this bill I got to pay.
- 2:18Emeal Zwayne: Oh, these people don't like me.
- 2:19Emeal Zwayne: Oh, they unfriended me.
- 2:20Emeal Zwayne: None of these things move me.
- 2:22Emeal Zwayne: What things that you're going to be persecuted.
- 2:24Emeal Zwayne: You got chains coming, or do I count my life dear to myself?
- 2:30Emeal Zwayne: That's the key.
- 2:35Emeal Zwayne: Welcome to the Living Waters podcast.
- 2:38Emeal Zwayne: Name that movie from that line game where we try to name that movie from that line these are all clean movies.
- 2:47Oscar Navarro: I'm assuming.
- 2:49Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, that's the caveat, friends, this is not endorsing any of these movies.
- 2:53Emeal Zwayne: Some of them we may have seen, may have not.
- 2:55Emeal Zwayne: Maybe if we saw them, it was in the best past.
- 2:58Emeal Zwayne: If we've seen some of them today, maybe we use Clear Player, vidangel or something like that.
- 3:02Emeal Zwayne: But anyways, here are some of the most memorable movie lines of all time.
- 3:06Emeal Zwayne: I'm normally pretty good at this Name, that movie.
- 3:10Ray Comfort: So Been who.
- 3:13Emeal Zwayne: I should have expected that right.
- 3:14Emeal Zwayne: All right, here we go.
- 3:16Emeal Zwayne: So your talent is a chance.
- 3:20Emeal Zwayne: Wow, oscar, go on.
- 3:23Emeal Zwayne: Did you look at my screen?
- 3:24Emeal Zwayne: I promise Okay.
- 3:26Ray Comfort: Boy.
- 3:27Ray Comfort: I so wanted to watch that movie because I so identified with it, but it was dirty.
- 3:30Ray Comfort: Was it dirty?
- 3:31Ray Comfort: One, Ray, we got to get you on VidAngel and Clear Player.
- 3:33Ray Comfort: Yeah, I'd really like that.
- 3:33Ray Comfort: I'd love to watch Dumb and Dumb, Seriously Well you know that scene, mark.
- 3:36Emeal Zwayne: You remember that scene right, and we were talking about it recently.
- 3:38Emeal Zwayne: It was he.
- 3:40Emeal Zwayne: He's this nerdy guy and he comes as a beautiful girl and he's like.
- 3:42Emeal Zwayne: I need you to let me know I drove all this way.
- 3:44Emeal Zwayne: Is there a chance?
- 3:45Emeal Zwayne: Like he's like, like one in a hundred.
- 3:46Emeal Zwayne: She goes more like one in a million.
- 3:48Emeal Zwayne: And then he goes Sawyer's saying there's a chance.
- 3:52Emeal Zwayne: Okay, here we go.
- 3:55Emeal Zwayne: I'm going to make him enough that he can refuse oh the Godfellas Woo?
- 4:02Ray Comfort: I never seen it.
- 4:02Emeal Zwayne: I never seen it.
- 4:03Emeal Zwayne: I've never seen it either.
- 4:05Ray Comfort: I've never seen it, but I remembered you and how you spoke on that.
- 4:07Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, I told you, there's not one cussword in that movie, not one.
- 4:11Mark Spence: I'm actually told there's not one cussword in that movie.
- 4:13Ray Comfort: Are you serious For real?
- 4:14Ray Comfort: How many is there?
- 4:15Ray Comfort: What?
- 4:17Mark Spence: I've never seen it, but I'm told not one.
- 4:18Mark Spence: It's a series, it's a series.
- 4:19Oscar Navarro: It's a series, and that was Marlon.
- 4:21Ray Comfort: Brando by the way, it's a series of 200 cusswords.
- 4:23Ray Comfort: It's not one enough.
- 4:25Emeal Zwayne: It's a series and it's believed to be one of the best ever, is what they say.
- 4:28Ray Comfort: I mean, it's one of the kinds of awards.
- 4:29Ray Comfort: It's horribly vicious, isn't it?
- 4:30Emeal Zwayne: But the acting, I think, makes it, oh yeah.
- 4:32Ray Comfort: Brando was a great actor.
- 4:34Emeal Zwayne: Okay, here's another one.
- 4:35Emeal Zwayne: You're killing me, smalls Sandlot, wow.
- 4:38Oscar Navarro: That's a good movie.
- 4:39Oscar Navarro: You've seen that Oscar?
- 4:40Oscar Navarro: I mean, I haven't seen it in a really long time.
- 4:42Oscar Navarro: Actually, I liked it as a kid.
- 4:44Oscar Navarro: I am just now remembering we put it on for our kids and it was one of the ones.
- 4:47Oscar Navarro: We ended up taking off pretty quick.
- 4:49Oscar Navarro: We got 20 minutes into it, oh yeah, I know you can get it.
- 4:53Ray Comfort: We got 20 minutes into it.
- 4:54Emeal Zwayne: Come on, Ray Mark, get into this Oscar's whipping, you guys.
- 4:56Ray Comfort: Hey, I've just got to say it we have lives.
- 4:58Emeal Zwayne: Oh yeah, you're right.
- 4:59Emeal Zwayne: Good point.
- 4:59Emeal Zwayne: Okay, here we go.
- 5:03Emeal Zwayne: My mama always said, dude, stop it.
- 5:07Emeal Zwayne: Are you seriously not reading my comments?
- 5:09Emeal Zwayne: I'm not looking at your screen.
- 5:10Emeal Zwayne: You're insane.
- 5:12Emeal Zwayne: No, that one's a no-brainer, that one doesn't matter what was it that one's a no-brainer?
- 5:14Emeal Zwayne: But I just said my mama and the way you said You're terrible for us.
- 5:19Emeal Zwayne: No, I'm so good.
- 5:20Emeal Zwayne: Oh, that's what it is, but she got it, it's about a gump, right?
- 5:22Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, that's right, tom Hanks.
- 5:24Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, okay, here's another one.
- 5:26Ray Comfort: I watched that on Clear Play.
- 5:27Emeal Zwayne: That's good.
- 5:28Emeal Zwayne: That's one of the most brilliant movies.
- 5:29Emeal Zwayne: We watched it as a family on Vin Ange, I think and it was amazing.
- 5:33Emeal Zwayne: Okay, here we go, you can't handle the truth.
- 5:37Oscar Navarro: Good film no, oh, it's Nicholas K, no, jack Nicholson.
- 5:43Oscar Navarro: Jack Nicholson and Tom Cruise, and the movie is called A Fugit.
- 5:51Emeal Zwayne: Man Wow 1992.
- 5:54Emeal Zwayne: Good job Okay.
- 5:55Emeal Zwayne: With great power comes great response.
- 5:59Emeal Zwayne: Spider-man.
- 5:59Emeal Zwayne: That was Spider-Man, spider-man, yeah.
- 6:04Oscar Navarro: Okay.
- 6:04Oscar Navarro: What's crazy is I don't have a single Bible verse memorized.
- 6:07Oscar Navarro: Okay.
- 6:08Emeal Zwayne: If Ray doesn't get this, I'm disassociating from him forever.
- 6:12Emeal Zwayne: It's a wonderful life.
- 6:13Emeal Zwayne: Wait, are you kidding me right now?
- 6:16Emeal Zwayne: Every time a bell rings, an angel gets its way.

- 6:19Emeal Zwayne: Yes, what it's a wonderful life.
- 6:22Ray Comfort: Look, I move in realms you guys just go out and stuff Ray Comfort.
- 6:26Ray Comfort: How did you do that?
- 6:27Ray Comfort: That was insane that was good looks.
- 6:30Emeal Zwayne: You meant like that yes, yeah, right, let's scale again.
- 6:33Oscar Navarro: I've never witnessed a miracle that was pretty crazy.
- 6:36Emeal Zwayne: Okay, it's the only movies I've ever watched, all right, other than Ben Hur.
- 6:42Ray Comfort: Actually, you know, I watch a lot of old black and white movies.
- 6:45Ray Comfort: I mean literally hundreds or even thousands of them.
- 6:47Ray Comfort: I've seen every black and white movie.
- 6:50Emeal Zwayne: I love black and white movies they were clean, wholesome they're very colorful, all right.
- 6:55Mark Spence: Speaking of that, do you have a colorblind friend of mine?
- 6:58Mark Spence: Colorblind friend of mine I apologize who insists that apples are yellow?
- 7:04Mark Spence: Stop it Really.
- 7:05Mark Spence: It's bananas.

- 7:09Ray Comfort: Marquis.
- 7:10Ray Comfort: Okay, I wouldn't say that That'll do pig.
- 7:14Ray Comfort: Oh, that's from Babe.
- 7:16Emeal Zwayne: Yes, I think you'd get that one right, Wonderful.
- 7:18Ray Comfort: I love that movie.
- 7:19Ray Comfort: Don't move on, just talk about Babe.
- 7:21Emeal Zwayne: Oh seriously, it wasn't Babe Cool.
- 7:24Ray Comfort: Yeah, I watched it five times and I normally don't watch movies more than 10 times with Ben Hur.
- 7:27Ray Comfort: But I really really enjoyed that because there's something spiritual about it.
- 7:32Ray Comfort: It's foolish things to confound them.
- 7:34Ray Comfort: Why is all the animals talking?
- 7:35Ray Comfort: It's a great movie.
- 7:36Emeal Zwayne: Well, the scenery was heartwarming to the whole farm setting and I think it was the first movie where they incorporated animals with moving mouths.
- 7:45Ray Comfort: Actually, I think they trained them to do that.
- 7:48Ray Comfort: No, no, and it almost carries the gospel in it, that stupid pig doing something wonderful at the end that stopped the mouths of all the markers.
- 7:54Ray Comfort: Yeah, it was beautiful.
- 7:55Emeal Zwayne: All right, oscar are you not seeing it?
- 7:57Emeal Zwayne: No, I'm not, I'm not.
- 7:57Emeal Zwayne: I'm gonna watch you with your kids.

- 8:55Ray Comfort: Yeah, he was a little big.
- 8:56Ray Comfort: That's the problem, poor guy.
- 8:58Ray Comfort: But yeah, just the first time I ever heard it, he brought tears to my eyes.
- 9:01Ray Comfort: It's just beautiful.
- 9:02Ray Comfort: What's it called?
- 9:03Ray Comfort: Somewhere over the rainbow by the guy?
- 9:05Emeal Zwayne: with the ukulele, izzy.
- 9:06Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, okay, mark, you better get this one.

- 9:41Mark Spence: I just I'm looking.
- 9:42Mark Spence: This is an opportunity to have a 3-hour nap when I'm on a trip, 3-hour nap when I have kids.
- 9:47Oscar Navarro: The movie theater version is 2 hours and 47 minutes yeah.
- 9:50Emeal Zwayne: It was filmed in New Zealand, Mac.
- 9:51Emeal Zwayne: He just allowed me to keep sleeping and by the way it was colorized.
- 9:54Ray Comfort: It was deceitful.
- 9:55Ray Comfort: Everyone goes to New Zealand because the scene was just so incredible, I know but that movie was colorized and everything you see in New Zealand, oh.
- 10:02Oscar Navarro: Yeah, it's just it's.
- 10:02Oscar Navarro: I'm actually in the middle of rereading, lord of the Rings right now.

- 10:07Emeal Zwayne: Listen, this is iconic here, ready, my name is Maximus.
- 10:11Emeal Zwayne: Glad to hear it.
- 10:11Emeal Zwayne: I'm the Army's of the North, general of the Felix legions, loyal servant to the true Emperor, marcus Aurelius, father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife, and I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.
- 10:25Mark Spence: You butchered that by now I actually think that was pretty good.
- 10:29Emeal Zwayne: Thank you, mark, that was brilliant, that was a great impression.
- 10:32Mark Spence: I don't.
- 10:33Mark Spence: What is her name?
- 10:33Mark Spence: Jezebel, that's funny, okay.
- 10:38Emeal Zwayne: How about this one?
- 10:39Emeal Zwayne: What you doing, life will echo in eternity.
- 10:43Ray Comfort: Glad to hear it.
- 10:44Ray Comfort: Yeah, same thing.
- 10:45Ray Comfort: No, that was a trick question.
- 10:46Emeal Zwayne: Three more and we're done, ready.
- 10:47Emeal Zwayne: Three, oh it's really Ready, here we go, here we go.
- 10:50Emeal Zwayne: No water for him.
- 10:52Emeal Zwayne: I said no water for him Ben her, ben her Ray.
- 10:55Emeal Zwayne: How many times have I done that?
- 10:57Ray Comfort: Oh, it's just it's a wonderful scene and, folks, if you've never seen that scene, please watch it.
- 11:02Ray Comfort: Just the scene or the whole movie, just that scene.
- 11:03Ray Comfort: No, you don't watch the whole movie, just the scene where Jesus gives water to Ben her or give you a goose bump.
- 11:08Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, it's amazing, you guys definitely won't get these next two.
- 11:11Emeal Zwayne: What are we doing?
- 11:12Oscar Navarro: Hasta la vista, baby and Terminator, I'll be back.
- 11:18Emeal Zwayne: Boy, I think I'll be back is probably the most quoted line from the movie, but what does he say it in?
- 11:24Mark Spence: What movie is that?
- 11:24Emeal Zwayne: That was Terminator 2.
- 11:26Mark Spence: 1984.
- 11:27Emeal Zwayne: Terminator 2, judgment Day.
- 11:28Emeal Zwayne: I'll be back, boy, he's so specific, he's gotten a lot of mileage out of that All right friends what a contrast, I'll be back.
- 11:36Emeal Zwayne: Here's a comment.
- 11:36Emeal Zwayne: I'll be back.
- 11:37Emeal Zwayne: My name is Jaren Hembroff and I'm 20 years old.
- 11:40Emeal Zwayne: I love the Living Waters podcast and I would not be upset if you started to do three episodes per week.
- 11:45Emeal Zwayne: Wink, wink.
- 11:46Emeal Zwayne: You want to kill us, jaren.
- 11:49Mark Spence: My son, ethan, said the same thing.
- 11:51Mark Spence: He's all dead.
- 11:51Mark Spence: I have Listen.
- 11:52Mark Spence: One thing you need to change with your podcast three times a week Go Monday, wednesday, friday.
- 11:56Mark Spence: That would.
- 11:58Oscar Navarro: You were just about to kick him out of the house and do that.
- 12:01Emeal Zwayne: It's encouraging that people want more.
- 12:03Emeal Zwayne: Really, that doesn't mean a lot.
- 12:04Emeal Zwayne: I first discovered Living Waters when the Mario video popped on my YouTube feed.
- 12:08Emeal Zwayne: Praise the Lord for that video.
- 12:10Emeal Zwayne: Four million views Popped on my feed when I was 17 or 18.
- 12:14Emeal Zwayne: I grew up in the church, but it wasn't until I saw this video that I heard the gospel presented so clearly.
- 12:20Emeal Zwayne: I don't ever remember hearing about repentance or what it means to truly believe in Jesus.
- 12:24Emeal Zwayne: I believe that this is what led me to getting saved by Christ.
- 12:28Emeal Zwayne: Praise God, I've been hooked on Living Waters probably since then.
- 12:32Emeal Zwayne: Please do more biographical episodes.
- 12:34Emeal Zwayne: I would love to hear one on Luther, as well as others.
- 12:37Emeal Zwayne: Also, please do at least one episode with all of your wives.
- 12:40Emeal Zwayne: We've only got one each.
- 12:41Emeal Zwayne: I'm sure thousands of people would love to hear their testimonies.
- 12:46Ray Comfort: Oh, I'm sure they'd be thrilled to be on.
- 12:49Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, right, thank you guys for your passion and your work.
- 12:51Emeal Zwayne: I love you guys.
- 12:52Emeal Zwayne: Hopefully Would Rachel ever come on.
- 12:54Emeal Zwayne: I can see Rachel coming on.
- 12:55Emeal Zwayne: Rachel, yeah, your wife.
- 12:57Emeal Zwayne: I think Rachel would Hello.
- 12:59Emeal Zwayne: I love Aze so much.
- 13:00Emeal Zwayne: Talk about all my great attributes.
- 13:04Emeal Zwayne: All right, Frank.
- 13:06Mark Spence: That would be a very short program.
- 13:08Emeal Zwayne: Laura would not come on.
- 13:09Emeal Zwayne: Have you asked her?
- 13:11Emeal Zwayne: Would Kelly come on?
- 13:11Emeal Zwayne: Oscar, I don't know.
- 13:14Emeal Zwayne: Isn't it funny, our wives.
- 13:16Emeal Zwayne: I don't know if Laura, I'd call her an introvert but she wouldn't come on.
- 13:18Emeal Zwayne: But the rest of us, our three wives, are at least introverts.
- 13:21Ray Comfort: Kelly is definitely an introvert, oh, rachel.
- 13:23Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, but Rachel's, she's coming out of her shell.
- 13:27Mark Spence: She's a snaggle.
- 13:28Mark Spence: She's got 80.
- 13:28Emeal Zwayne: She's got 80.
- 13:29Emeal Zwayne: Almost 85,000 followers on her social media.
- 13:32Emeal Zwayne: She speaks now.
- 13:33Emeal Zwayne: What's it called?
- 13:34Emeal Zwayne: Oh, joyful mothers For you ladies out there, check it out.
- 13:38Emeal Zwayne: Okay, friends, this podcast is brought to you by the Ten Commandments Scroll Pen, one of the best resources I think we have.
- 13:45Emeal Zwayne: You pull out and then retract, and it's got just a creative way to memorize the Ten Commandments.
- 13:51Mark Spence: I used to use the boomerang pens when I was a server in a restaurant.
- 13:55Emeal Zwayne: Oh really, yeah, I shall not steal Ray.
- 13:56Emeal Zwayne: How'd you get that idea?
- 13:57Emeal Zwayne: That, seriously, was really really.
- 13:59Ray Comfort: I just found it in my brain.
- 14:00Ray Comfort: It's just, it's seriously, it's something we never mentioned, but it's their ballpoint pens and everyone steals them and it's got Rindhamon on the pen that shall not steal and it's got the Bible verse and that's going to appeal to the conscience.
- 14:12Ray Comfort: Oh yeah.
- 14:14Emeal Zwayne: It's called boomerang, because boomerang comes right back to you.
- 14:17Ray Comfort: Yes, and the thing is, you just let people steal them.
- 14:21Oscar Navarro: The Ten Commandments Scroll Pen inks hold separately, can you?
- 14:25Emeal Zwayne: imagine.
- 14:26Emeal Zwayne: And don't forget the Living Waters mug and they have it in the Study Bible all at LivingWaterscom.
- 14:30Emeal Zwayne: We didn't do that in the last episode.
- 14:34Ray Comfort: I didn't do that in the last episode.
- 14:37Emeal Zwayne: Alright, guys, we are today talking about what it actually means to have purpose in life.
- 14:44Emeal Zwayne: I think after this opening, people are abandoning life.
- 14:47Emeal Zwayne: Guys, purpose is probably, I would say, one of the biggest buzzwords of the 21st century.
- 14:53Ray Comfort: That was about purpose, purpose.
- 14:57Ray Comfort: It's like a New Yorker saying purpose, isn't it?
- 14:59Ray Comfort: It's a bit of a purpose.
- 15:02Emeal Zwayne: What's your purpose?
- 15:02Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, but seriously.
- 15:04Emeal Zwayne: I mean, I talk about this in one of my messages where I discuss a sort of thing.
- 15:07Emeal Zwayne: But if you were to do a Google search on the top trending buzzwords of the 21st century, I wouldn't be surprised if purpose was close to the top of the list.
- 15:15Emeal Zwayne: Books written on it sermons, preached on it, movies, podcasts, radio programs.
- 15:21Emeal Zwayne: You're really hard-pressed even to go to a conference or listen to a sermon where someone, to one degree or another, isn't talking about purpose.
- 15:29Emeal Zwayne: And yet, unfortunately, a good chunk of the answers on what the purpose of man is have nothing to do with really the biblical call to the purpose of man.
- 15:40Mark Spence: So what are some futile purposes of life that people don't go for Everything?
- 15:45Ray Comfort: Fantasy fear juggling, not juggles.
- 15:47Ray Comfort: He's a good juggler really.
- 15:49Emeal Zwayne: Oh yeah, Mark.
- 15:50Emeal Zwayne: Why don't you stop juggling, Mark?
- 15:51Mark Spence: I could only juggle like three things.
- 15:54Ray Comfort: Yeah, but hang on, I can only do two, so three is pretty good.
- 15:57Ray Comfort: You can do three.
- 16:00Emeal Zwayne: I'm a mime, you know I can do mime.
- 16:01Ray Comfort: Man in a box.
- 16:02Ray Comfort: Get out of that box.
- 16:07Mark Spence: People have erroneously gone down some rabbit trails when it comes to purpose and meaning, and some of them are very popular, like business success.
- 16:17Mark Spence: What are some of them that you're not afraid of?
- 16:21Mark Spence: Just simply saying that that is not the meaning of life, that is not the purpose of life, because I would imagine we're going to get into what is the purpose and the meaning of life.
- 16:29Mark Spence: Westminster.
- 16:30Ray Comfort: Catechism.
- 16:30Ray Comfort: I'm sure will go there.
- 16:31Ray Comfort: Yeah, a lot of people don't discover that their life is futile until they get to the end of it, their life doing everything but serving God, loving God.
- 16:41Emeal Zwayne: Ray, you've often talked about and we've discussed it before.
- 16:44Emeal Zwayne: I want two things.
- 16:45Emeal Zwayne: I want you, after you answer this, to touch on vanity fair.
- 16:48Emeal Zwayne: He doesn't have to, he will.
- 16:51Emeal Zwayne: We throw that out there, that term, vanity fair there's a magazine by that name, but there's a place where that came out of.
- 16:57Emeal Zwayne: But before that, you've always talked about your biggest nightmare being seeing these guys walking down the street walking their dog, their elderly, and you're thinking they're retired, and the nightmare for you is the thought of having nothing to do I don't even say that and just walking your dog all day.
- 17:15Ray Comfort: No, it's not walking the dog, the dog is walking the man, that's true, that's the tragedy of it.
- 17:20Ray Comfort: The guy is just he stayed at home, woke up, had breakfast, looked at the TV, didn't want to watch the soap, so whatever's on All the woman's talk shows goes for a walk with a dog, comes back and sits down and has a cup of tea and lunch and he's just waiting to die Because he's left God out of the equation.
- 17:36Ray Comfort: And when I was a non-Christian I had an incredibly exciting life my own business.
- 17:43Ray Comfort: At 20 years old I could slap a note on the door gone surfing.
- 17:46Ray Comfort: It was my dream.
- 17:46Ray Comfort: I left a bank to open my own business.
- 17:48Ray Comfort: People say what do you do for a living?
- 17:50Ray Comfort: I'm mind my own business.
- 17:51Ray Comfort: What do you do?
- 17:52Ray Comfort: But it was just wonderful.
- 17:54Ray Comfort: I own my own home at 20 years old and had everything I want.
- 17:58Ray Comfort: And I was horrified because I had no purpose.
- 18:01Ray Comfort: It just didn't make sense.
- 18:03Ray Comfort: I thought it was really.
- 18:04Ray Comfort: I had a Solomon experience, condensed.
- 18:07Ray Comfort: I didn't have a thousand concubines, only one.
- 18:09Ray Comfort: But I thought what do I do now If I make more money?
- 18:14Ray Comfort: My friends, my surfing buddies, are going to hate me.
- 18:16Ray Comfort: It was crazy.
- 18:18Ray Comfort: And I was absolutely floundering at the age of 22, I think Just before I got saved.
- 18:24Ray Comfort: I thought I just don't get this, and that's what drives me to reach the lost.
- 18:28Ray Comfort: There's just millions, billions out there that are just absolutely lost.
- 18:32Ray Comfort: I don't know where they came from, don't know what they're doing here, don't know where they're going.
- 18:35Ray Comfort: And Jesus said the Son of man has come to seek and save that which is lost.
- 18:38Ray Comfort: So we've got to run to them.
- 18:41Oscar Navarro: Ray, your testimony in that regard reminds me of Ecclesiastes Vanity, vanity, and I think you asked the question earlier.
- 18:48Oscar Navarro: What are some of the false purposes that are out there?
- 18:50Oscar Navarro: I mean, they're endless.
- 18:51Oscar Navarro: There's a consumeristic purpose aspect in which I need to gain, obtain experience, wealth, prosperity.
- 18:58Oscar Navarro: That's the purpose of your life.
- 19:00Oscar Navarro: There's a power purpose out there, and I need to have power and control over my lives.
- 19:04Oscar Navarro: There's also a purpose out there in which the working definition of their life is to receive praise, to be recognized and known by a wider audience, and, of course, some of the most well-known people truly feel unknown.
- 19:18Oscar Navarro: You know, if so many eyes are watching you, none of them really actually know you.
- 19:21Oscar Navarro: There is a purpose, though, that I think everybody deep down longs for, that is given to them by God and rooted in the gospel, and that is this.
- 19:31Oscar Navarro: I think everybody knows that their true purpose is rooted in some way, somehow, in love, but they don't understand the love that they desire.
- 19:42Oscar Navarro: I think everybody wants to be known and wants to be loved that aspect that touches on the purpose that God has given us, and Westminster Catechism, written in 1648,.
- 19:55Oscar Navarro: For those who don't know, catechisms are a question and answer type survey to help children learn about the Bible.
- 20:02Oscar Navarro: This one was written in 1648.
- 20:04Oscar Navarro: So they're not primarily Catholic.
- 20:05Oscar Navarro: I think a lot of people want to hear Catechism.
- 20:07Oscar Navarro: They think Catholicism.
- 20:08Oscar Navarro: These were Christian tools to start 1648.
- 20:11Oscar Navarro: First question what is the chief end of man?
- 20:14Oscar Navarro: Now the word chief end sounds archaic.
- 20:17Oscar Navarro: What it's ultimately asking is what is the meaning of man?
- 20:21Oscar Navarro: What is your purpose?
- 20:23Oscar Navarro: Why are you here?
- 20:24Oscar Navarro: Why did God create you?
- 20:27Oscar Navarro: And the answer is a man's chief end is to glorify God and enjoy him forever.
- 20:34Oscar Navarro: Amen.
- 20:35Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, and I've mentioned it a number of times on the podcast, but this is really the foundation for the family vision statement that I crafted for us, for the Zwayne family household, to gladly and passionately glorify God and every thought, affection, word and deed, while constantly enjoying him as our greatest pleasure and most precious treasure.
- 20:55Emeal Zwayne: That's what it comes down to, you know, and I love that.
- 20:57Emeal Zwayne: We have it on a big plaque in our living room.
- 20:59Emeal Zwayne: All of our kids have memorized it.
- 21:01Emeal Zwayne: My wife and I have memorized it.
- 21:02Emeal Zwayne: It's become the foundation.
- 21:04Emeal Zwayne: Willow's memorized it, so we've become our foundation for our family devotions, a common topic of discussion in our home, and that's giving your family purpose right, and I encourage everyone.
- 21:16Emeal Zwayne: Unbelievable two for two.
- 21:20Emeal Zwayne: You dropped it again, ray.
- 21:21Emeal Zwayne: We're two for two today.
- 21:22Ray Comfort: Look guys, it's not my fault, it's this gravity thing.
- 21:24Ray Comfort: I'm always seriously, I always have problems.
- 21:27Emeal Zwayne: I drop eggs, I spill milk whatever it's the gravity thing yeah, gravity, blame it on gravity.
- 21:33Emeal Zwayne: But you know, it's something I would encourage every family to do is to craft some sort of vision statement that will give your family something to aim towards in terms of purpose.
- 21:47Oscar Navarro: How has that practically helped you guys Like as you disciple your children?
- 21:51Oscar Navarro: How do you guys refer back to that statement and memorize how has that worked for you?
- 21:56Emeal Zwayne: It's become a reference point, because, if we're dealing with issues of discipline, the question is hey, was that glorifying to the Lord, as you did?
- 22:03Emeal Zwayne: That that's so good?
- 22:04Emeal Zwayne: And every thought, affection, word indeed, which is everything we think, say, do and feel, you know, and so you bring it back to that.
- 22:10Emeal Zwayne: When we're pursuing different things, we'll ask the question well, will this glorify the Lord, or is this being done to glorify yourself, as we're maybe pursuing things that are in keeping with pleasure and maybe they might be questionable.
- 22:24Emeal Zwayne: Well, hey, christ should be your greatest pleasure.
- 22:27Emeal Zwayne: You're pursuing riches.
- 22:28Emeal Zwayne: He should be your greatest treasure.
- 22:29Emeal Zwayne: The ramifications spill over into so many different things.
- 22:35Mark Spence: If you don't get this question right, you're not going to get any of the questions that come your way, right?
- 22:40Mark Spence: I mean, that's how important this is.
- 22:43Mark Spence: I have a car, we all have a car.
- 22:45Mark Spence: Ray has a baby car.
- 22:49Ray Comfort: The most popular car in the world is the Vida Betel.
- 22:52Ray Comfort: That's number one.
- 22:53Emeal Zwayne: So that's what you have.
- 22:54Emeal Zwayne: So you're falling the ways of the world.
- 22:56Emeal Zwayne: That's popular.
- 22:59Ray Comfort: No, I'm using it to reach the world.
- 23:01Ray Comfort: Oh, that's what it is.
- 23:03Mark Spence: So the main purpose of a car is to get you from point A to point B.
- 23:06Mark Spence: But if I never put gas in it and I just kept it inside my driveway, then you're not using it for the purpose for which it was designed.
- 23:12Mark Spence: In past podcasts, oscars talked about our telos.
- 23:17Mark Spence: Right, the main, the purpose for which it was designed.
- 23:22Mark Spence: And if the car is not actually used for the purpose for which it was designed, well then it's just a big paperweight.
- 23:29Mark Spence: Wow, right.
- 23:30Mark Spence: And so you and I, we have a purpose, and that is to know God and to make our God known.
- 23:36Mark Spence: So when we do anything extracurricular outside of that and there's nothing wrong with extracurricular activities right, whatever you do, you do all to the glory of God.
- 23:45Mark Spence: But if we don't have that purpose, well then you become just a big paperweight, right, you become something other than that which you are designed for, and what you do that day will not have any meaning in life.
- 24:00Mark Spence: And you had mentioned Russell Crowe earlier by a quote of his.
- 24:05Emeal Zwayne: Well, maybe his what you're doing, time will echo in eternity.
- 24:08Emeal Zwayne: Why did you bring it up?
- 24:09Emeal Zwayne: What you're doing, time will echo in eternity.
- 24:11Mark Spence: And isn't that true right?
- 24:12Mark Spence: Whatever we did last night, we found it so important that we exchanged a moment of eternity for it.
- 24:17Mark Spence: Like what we're doing today, we are willing to say I want that to echo forever into eternity, that I can be known by that, and not to overemphasize and overspiritualize, but just by virtue of the fact that we are spiritual beings created with a purpose, that everything we do is holy onto him, that we can be mindful of Christ in the midst of it.
- 24:38Mark Spence: And if we had that mindset, we will walk out of more movies, we will not listen to as many jokes, we will utilize the money that God has entrusted into our care a little bit more proper than the person next to us, and because everything we have is on loan from him, and that includes not just money but our time.
- 24:57Oscar Navarro: I think the Telos argument is a really good evangelistic approach, especially to younger individuals.
- 25:03Oscar Navarro: I think I've talked about that on the podcast before, because maybe one of the reasons why we're doing this is that the newer generation of kids I shouldn't say kids, because honestly it's people my age, newer generation of people are not asking the same question that the generation before them was asking.
- 25:18Oscar Navarro: The generation before you know that the existential question that was on everybody's mind is what happens when I die.
- 25:26Oscar Navarro: And so if you talk to somebody from generations prior and you ask them what do you think you're going to die?
- 25:29Oscar Navarro: They've probably contemplated it at some point.
- 25:32Oscar Navarro: But when you start drifting towards younger generation, you ask that question.
- 25:35Oscar Navarro: What often you'll see is I don't know.
- 25:37Oscar Navarro: Didn't really think about it.
- 25:38Oscar Navarro: I'm not sure it wouldn't be fair for us to say that they're not interested in spiritual things.
- 25:44Oscar Navarro: It's more helpful to think what is their existential question?
- 25:49Oscar Navarro: And the existential question that is being asked, I think, by many today is this question what is my purpose, what is my meaning, what is my value in life?
- 26:00Oscar Navarro: And here's where the Telos argument I think helps a lot, because if again, you know, I like to use the idea of a watch.
- 26:07Oscar Navarro: Like if I grab a watch and I try to use a watch as a hammer, it's going to make a mess of things.
- 26:12Oscar Navarro: I'm going to break the watch.
- 26:13Oscar Navarro: The hammer's not going to go into the wood.
- 26:15Oscar Navarro: Nothing is going to work out Now.
- 26:16Ray Comfort: it's not going to go into the wood.
- 26:17Oscar Navarro: Sorry, you're right, you're hammering a hammer with a watch.
- 26:20Emeal Zwayne: That's why I hire construction workers Hammer a hammer with a watch.
- 26:24Oscar Navarro: And if you are going about your life with the wrong Telos, if you're a watch trying to be a hammer, you're going to feel it.
- 26:35Oscar Navarro: Your lived experience is that you're going to feel lost.
- 26:38Oscar Navarro: And that's a key word.
- 26:39Oscar Navarro: When you talk to younger people today and you ask them do you feel lost?
- 26:43Oscar Navarro: It's like they have this look like how did you know?
- 26:45Oscar Navarro: It's because they're not living out their Telos.
- 26:48Oscar Navarro: And then we get to, through the gospel, explain to them you're Telos, the reason why you exist is to glorify God and enjoy him forever.
- 26:58Emeal Zwayne: And then, a minute ago, you looked like you had something brilliant you wanted to say yeah, it wasn't brilliant, it's pathetic.
- 27:02Ray Comfort: But it's Revelation 4, verse 11, because it's going to lift up.
- 27:05Ray Comfort: You're saying scripture is pathetic.
- 27:06Ray Comfort: Whoa, I'm moving on to scripture from my pathetic thought.
- 27:10Ray Comfort: But listen, revelation 4, verse 11, king James Version.
- 27:14Ray Comfort: They are worthy, o Lord, to receive glory and honor and power, for you have created all things and for your pleasure they are and were created.
- 27:23Ray Comfort: And we look at this world and think, yeah, it's all for our pleasure.
- 27:26Ray Comfort: What we don't realize is that our pleasure is God's pleasure.
- 27:30Ray Comfort: When you look at your kids, nothing thrills you more than seeing your kids enjoying themselves.
- 27:35Ray Comfort: You think this is wonderful.
- 27:36Ray Comfort: So your kids' pleasure give you pleasure, and us living in righteousness and enjoying the gifts that God has given us gives God pleasure, which is wonderful thought.
- 27:44Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, you know, in the verse that goes along with our family vision statements.
- 27:48Emeal Zwayne: First Corinthians 10 31,.
- 27:49Emeal Zwayne: Whether you eat or do, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do, all to the glory of God.
- 27:54Emeal Zwayne: Mark, I love that earlier you were just referencing some power.
- 27:58Ray Comfort: So when you're going to stop slurping your soup and stuff like that.
- 28:01Ray Comfort: I often think of that verse when I'm eating, Slurping.
- 28:07Ray Comfort: Do whatever you do with your drink, do it to the glory of God it's really hard for me to do that with finger food after this, yeah.
- 28:13Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, that's true.
- 28:14Emeal Zwayne: That's a good way to find the Lord.
- 28:16Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, but, mark, I love the fact that you referenced that you know how are we spending our time in that regard.
- 28:22Emeal Zwayne: When I was a newer believer, I wrote this yesterday live, each live, each moment in wisdom and in holiness, and not for the moment itself, but rather in view of the moment to come, so that, when this moment passes away, you may be left with the results of a positive action and may be able to reflect with rejoicing rather than remorse and regret.
- 28:45Mark Spence: What is that resolution?
- 28:46Mark Spence: Was it Jonathan Edwards?
- 28:48Ray Comfort: Hang on that was very good, Aisy.
- 28:49Mark Spence: Merci beaucoup it goes along with that that one of the resolutions from Jonathan Edwards was to Live each moment as if it's your own.
- 28:59Mark Spence: No, it was so when he looks back on his life, he would, yeah boy, he would he have 99 resolutions, or something crazy by the time he was 17, some like that, yeah yeah, and you know the point.
- 29:09Emeal Zwayne: The point in that is that you know we're only left with what we did with the previous moment, how much time we spent already doing this podcast.
- 29:19Emeal Zwayne: Those moments are all gone.
- 29:20Emeal Zwayne: They're literally history, trust me.
- 29:22Emeal Zwayne: No, oh, all we're left with is a memory and an effect.
- 29:26Emeal Zwayne: So I want to so in every moment, in such a way that, when it's gone, in the next moment, I'm reaping a positive memory, a positive impact.
- 29:34Emeal Zwayne: By the way that I live for the glory of God.
- 29:36Oscar Navarro: That's a great thought another good example is like something not living out its purpose is the like the printer in my office.
- 29:42Oscar Navarro: It's like every time I go to print something it starts playing like this little tune, like music.
- 29:47Oscar Navarro: It's the papers, german.
- 29:49Oscar Navarro: I.
- 29:52Emeal Zwayne: Found it.
- 29:53Mark Spence: It's the seventh resolution from Jonathan Edwards.
- 29:56Mark Spence: He said resolved never to do anything, which I should be afraid to do if it were the last hour.
- 30:00Mark Spence: Yeah, that's right.
- 30:02Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, those are powerful.
- 30:03Emeal Zwayne: Those are be good to look up, friends.
- 30:05Emeal Zwayne: If you haven't Jonathan Edwards resolutions, they're so convicted.
- 30:08Emeal Zwayne: I think he wrote him when he was 17 or something.
- 30:10Ray Comfort: He had a brilliant mind, didn't he?
- 30:12Emeal Zwayne: yeah, and he would.
- 30:12Emeal Zwayne: He would read them weekly and strong and review them weekly and and, if you want to, learn more about them.
- 30:18Oscar Navarro: We actually did a podcast on Jonathan Edwards and, if I remember correctly, you read a handful.
- 30:22Oscar Navarro: Yeah, I did be good when I go back and listen to yeah.
- 30:25Emeal Zwayne: So you know, I wrote this whole thing to back way back in the day.
- 30:29Emeal Zwayne: Boy, I must have been I don't know 18, 19, but it's a long.
- 30:32Emeal Zwayne: In terms of the purpose of man, you guys have heard it dozens of times but oh, it's beautiful.
- 30:37Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, but it's funny.
- 30:38Emeal Zwayne: I remember I was, I was sitting down, I went over it meticulously and it all.
- 30:43Emeal Zwayne: Actually it makes sense.
- 30:44Emeal Zwayne: That's an accurate statement.
- 30:45Emeal Zwayne: But in terms of the purpose of man, the purposes of man is to know his maker, be known by his maker and make his maker known so that others may know his maker as their maker, be known by his maker as their maker, and make the maker of him, who made his maker, known to the M Eachir maker None is a maker of others so that others may know the maker of him, what made his maker known as a maker of the ones who made the maker of the one who made his maker known as their maker, known as their maker, as their maker, and that they may also make him known to others who will turn already be known by him and, in multiplicity, to the degree of infinite, to make him known.
- 31:16Ray Comfort: And you didn't read that.
- 31:17Ray Comfort: You did that by memory and I couldn't understand what you were talking about, to be quite honest, but it did make sense.
- 31:22Ray Comfort: Well, my brain scares me.
- 31:25Emeal Zwayne: But you know what the reason I do that is?
- 31:27Emeal Zwayne: It's a joke, because I say, hey, the purpose of man is very, very, very, very simple.
- 31:31Emeal Zwayne: There's nothing complicated, complex or intricate about it.
- 31:34Emeal Zwayne: It's very, very simple.
- 31:34Emeal Zwayne: Here it is.
- 31:35Emeal Zwayne: First, man is a nosy maker, but a nice maker, and maker is a maker known.
- 31:37Emeal Zwayne: And they think, oh, that's it.
- 31:38Emeal Zwayne: And then I do all that and I say, as you saw about that ridiculous illustration, we as people have a way of complicating the simple.
- 31:44Emeal Zwayne: That's good, and so yeah, but to know our maker I mean John 17.3, and this is eternal life to know you, the only true God to be known by our maker Romans 8, 29, and 30, whom he foreknew, he predestined.
- 31:59Emeal Zwayne: God knows us so well, he foreknew us.
- 32:02Mark Spence: And the glory is glorying this, that he knows me and he understands me.
- 32:05Mark Spence: Yeah, amen.
- 32:06Ray Comfort: So what would you say?
- 32:07Mark Spence: if someone said to you.
- 32:08Ray Comfort: I've been asking people what is a Christian, asking non-Christians what is a Christian, and you and I know a Christian is someone who knows the Lord, says, and I think he bruised or somewhere you'll no longer say know you the Lord?
- 32:21Ray Comfort: And then the scripture you just quoted, this is eternal life.
- 32:25Ray Comfort: They might know you, the only true God and Jesus Christ whom we ever sent.
- 32:28Ray Comfort: I've got a video coming out with this girl who was a Christian for many years and she just rips into everything and the point is that she didn't know the Lord, cause if she said she did, then she's saying everything she said.
- 32:42Ray Comfort: What she's saying isn't true and if she didn't know the Lord, she was a false conversion.
- 32:46Ray Comfort: She faked it.
- 32:47Ray Comfort: But that's what a Christian is someone who knows the Lord.
- 32:50Emeal Zwayne: That's a question you often ask people, right, because I know you're gonna ask it.
- 32:55Emeal Zwayne: I love it cause I know what's going on in your brain, but people are so unsuspecting.
- 32:57Emeal Zwayne: Are you saying you knew the Lord?
- 33:00Emeal Zwayne: Yes, oh gotcha.
- 33:04Ray Comfort: I don't point the finger in the.
- 33:06Ray Comfort: I don't do that face.
- 33:09Emeal Zwayne: Turn into a witch?
- 33:10Ray Comfort: Yeah, that's like sick Gollum.
- 33:13Oscar Navarro: My brain is you know we started about movies and let me circle back to movies.
- 33:17Oscar Navarro: I know you guys have heard me talk about this at our ambassadors academy and this is sort of going back to act 17, which we talked about last episode.
- 33:24Oscar Navarro: How can we look at the world and redeem the things that the poets are saying?
- 33:29Oscar Navarro: Because, again, there's common grace out there, and I think one of the best examples of this is in the movie Toy Story, because the thing about purpose is that it tends to speak about our identities and I think for many people we have an identity crisis, and I think the first movie, toy Story, gives this great common grace, poetic example of what it means to have true purpose.
- 33:48Oscar Navarro: And so in that movie, as we all know and if you haven't watched, it.
- 33:51Ray Comfort: We all know.
- 33:53Oscar Navarro: We may not all know, but if you haven't watched it, I'm about to ruin it for you.
- 33:56Oscar Navarro: But you should watch it.
- 33:57Oscar Navarro: It's a really good movie.
- 33:57Oscar Navarro: In that movie we meet Buzz Lightyear.
- 33:59Oscar Navarro: And when you first meet Buzz Lightyear he thinks that he is the real Buzz Lightyear of star command.
- 34:05Oscar Navarro: You know what I mean.
- 34:06Oscar Navarro: He ignores all of the realities, that he's just a toy To him.
- 34:10Oscar Navarro: His LED light is a real laser light To him.
- 34:13Oscar Navarro: His plastic wings can really make him fly.
- 34:16Oscar Navarro: And so when we first meet him, you know he's got like the name Andy has written on his shoe by the boy and he's like look, your chief leader has inaugurated me into your tribe.
- 34:26Oscar Navarro: And so all throughout the movie Woody is trying to convince Buzz that he's not a real space ranger.
- 34:33Oscar Navarro: Towards the end of the movie they get caught by the neighbor and kid who loves to torture toys, and they're trying to escape to get back to Andy's room.
- 34:42Oscar Navarro: And there's this moment where Buzz is gonna be able to prove himself.
- 34:46Oscar Navarro: He's gonna be able to say look, my identity and purpose comes from what I do.
- 34:52Oscar Navarro: I am gonna tell you who I am.
- 34:54Oscar Navarro: And so he gets up.
- 34:55Oscar Navarro: He has this opportunity to be the hero of the day.
- 34:57Oscar Navarro: He stands on a ledge, he opens up his plastic wings.
- 35:00Oscar Navarro: There's an open window.
- 35:01Oscar Navarro: All Buzz has to do is fly out that window and he is who he says he is and he's the hero of the day.
- 35:09Oscar Navarro: And of course, in that moment he jumps and in slow motion you sort of realize as he does.
- 35:16Oscar Navarro: What Ray does every day is find out about gravity.
- 35:18Oscar Navarro: He starts to plummet to the ground and he hits it and his arm breaks and he's sitting there depressed because he's realizing that he is not who he says he is.
- 35:27Oscar Navarro: And so, like in a scene or two later, buzz is strapped to a exploding rocket and Woody is trapped right next to him and Woody's like still trying to get him to escape.
- 35:38Oscar Navarro: And Buzz tells him what's the point?
- 35:41Oscar Navarro: What's the point?
- 35:42Oscar Navarro: I'm just a toy.
- 35:44Oscar Navarro: And Woody says to him almost in a prophetic moment just a toy, just a toy.
- 35:51Oscar Navarro: He says, buzz, over there is a kid who thinks you're the greatest, is a kid who loves you.
- 35:57Oscar Navarro: And in that moment in the movie, buzz looks down at his soul, on his shoe, and he sees a name written there Andy.
- 36:06Oscar Navarro: And he finds the wherewithal to continue in life and to escape and to get back to his home.
- 36:11Oscar Navarro: What gave Buzz Value in that moment?
- 36:15Oscar Navarro: It's not what he is, it's not what he can do, but who he is loved by.
- 36:21Oscar Navarro: He is loved by someone so much greater than him, and that's.
- 36:25Oscar Navarro: The good news to us is that there is a name Written on our souls, and it is the name of God.
- 36:31Oscar Navarro: That is the chief in the man.
- 36:33Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, it's not who you are, it's who's you are in our reading last night it's having a sue.
- 36:39Ray Comfort: We read that famous portion of scripture where Jesus appears the resurrection and Mary doesn't know who he is and he just turns and says, mary, oh, that's just a goosebumps moment.
- 36:51Ray Comfort: He didn't need to say anything more, and that's the throwing part that God knows us by name.
- 36:56Ray Comfort: Yeah, amen, he knows us by name.
- 36:58Ray Comfort: She hear his voice.
- 36:59Emeal Zwayne: Yes, he calls him by name.
- 37:00Emeal Zwayne: Well, yeah, and, and, yeah, and.
- 37:03Emeal Zwayne: So that's the joy for us as believers.
- 37:05Emeal Zwayne: You know we?
- 37:06Emeal Zwayne: We know what our purpose is.
- 37:08Emeal Zwayne: It's to know our makers, to be known by our maker through that intimate, close relationship.
- 37:13Emeal Zwayne: And that third part, to make our maker known, and We've discussed it many times with second Corinthians 5, right it?
- 37:21Emeal Zwayne: We are Ambassadors for Christ.
- 37:24Emeal Zwayne: God wants to plead through us to the world to be reconciled to him.
- 37:27Emeal Zwayne: We are full-time ministers of reconciliation, with the ministry of reconciliation, and so we have to keep that in mind and I think a part of really living out purpose is Doing.
- 37:40Emeal Zwayne: You know what the famous statement says, beginning with the end in mind, and you know I love what.
- 37:47Emeal Zwayne: What it?
- 37:47Emeal Zwayne: What Paul said in second Timothy 4, 6 to 8, for I am already being poured out as a drink offering and the time of my departure is at hand.
- 37:56Emeal Zwayne: I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
- 38:02Emeal Zwayne: Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give to me on that day, and not to me only, but also to all who have loved his Appearing I love that by Paul.
- 38:13Emeal Zwayne: You know he's saying, man, he's reached the end of his life and he's saying, look, I've done all this.
- 38:17Emeal Zwayne: My, my, my fight has been fought.
- 38:20Emeal Zwayne: But he fought it valiantly, you know he didn't.
- 38:23Emeal Zwayne: He didn't throw in the towel, he didn't give up.
- 38:24Emeal Zwayne: I finished the race.
- 38:26Emeal Zwayne: He didn't just kind of run half-heartedly, he ran as though to win.
- 38:30Emeal Zwayne: As he sold us in another place, he's kept the faith.
- 38:32Emeal Zwayne: He didn't just keep it, but he contended for it.
- 38:35Emeal Zwayne: He fought for it with all his being.
- 38:37Ray Comfort: He reminded me when you, when you quoted it, poured out as a drink offering, how David Long for a drink from the well of Bethlehem and a three mighty men broke through the risk their lives to bring back the drink from the well of Bethlehem.
- 38:50Ray Comfort: And instead of drinking it, he poured it out as a drink offering to the Lord.
- 38:54Ray Comfort: He says how can I do this?
- 38:55Ray Comfort: Because it's the blood of you.
- 38:56Ray Comfort: Know those, those mighty men?
- 38:58Ray Comfort: And we look at the gospel and say the, the great mighty three, the triune, god, broke through and to Bethlehem to purchase Water from the wells of everlasting life.
- 39:07Ray Comfort: And how can we drink it in self indulgence?
- 39:10Ray Comfort: But we must pour our lives as a drink offering to the Lord.
- 39:14Emeal Zwayne: Oh, I love that right.
- 39:15Emeal Zwayne: You know, mark, there's so many things that get in the way of us fulfilling our purpose and being driven by purpose, and it's the distractions of the world, when you say and, and the weakness of our flesh and the attacks of the enemy.
- 39:33Emeal Zwayne: How do we fight that?
- 39:34Emeal Zwayne: How do we?
- 39:34Emeal Zwayne: How do we get past that and stick to our purpose?
- 39:37Mark Spence: I think daily we have to kind of regroup, we have to kind of pause and have that say la moment where we realize and recognize what is the meaning of life.
- 39:45Mark Spence: Well, why am I truly here?
- 39:47Mark Spence: You know, I was reading an article recently talking about the meaning of life and how it's wrapped up in the Glory of God, and there's a couple scriptures here that let me share with you.
- 39:56Mark Spence: And calling God's elect, in Isaiah 43, verse 7, it says bring all who claim me as their God, for I have made them for my glory.
- 40:06Mark Spence: It was I who created them and the reason we were made is for God's glory.
- 40:12Mark Spence: That that is it.
- 40:13Mark Spence: And for somebody who's outside of the faith, they begin to think well, that's very narcissistic.
- 40:18Mark Spence: God is a very jealous God and we begin to equate God's jealousy like man's jealousy.
- 40:25Mark Spence: But if you pause anything through for a moment, the most loving thing that God could do is Command worship from his creation, because he knows that the worship of God will bring the ultimate satisfaction.
- 40:40Ray Comfort: In man to man right.
- 40:41Mark Spence: So with God being a jealous God, he knows the greatest need of man is God.
- 40:47Mark Spence: So he says draw near to me and I'll draw near to you.
- 40:49Mark Spence: That is the absolute best thing that God can give.
- 40:53Mark Spence: Man is himself.
- 40:54Mark Spence: Jesus said is in Matthew 16.
- 40:57Mark Spence: He says if anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
- 41:02Mark Spence: For whoever wants to save his life will lose it.
- 41:05Mark Spence: But whoever loses his life for my sake will Find it.
- 41:09Mark Spence: And then that ultimately leads to a promise that Ray has shared since the moment I've met him.
- 41:15Mark Spence: You know, you delight yourself in the Lord.
- 41:17Mark Spence: He'll give you the desires of your heart.
- 41:19Mark Spence: But that's not to be confused with.
- 41:21Mark Spence: If I delight myself in the Lord, well then I get riches, fame, popularity and everything else attached to that.
- 41:26Mark Spence: No, but when we are delighting ourselves in God, then we want what God wants for us.
- 41:32Mark Spence: Yeah right, that's what we, that's what we want.
- 41:34Mark Spence: It's like pray the Lord of the harvest to raise up laborers.
- 41:36Mark Spence: If we continually are praying to the Lord of the harvest, we're gonna recognize as we look inside the mirror that we are part of that prayer.
- 41:43Mark Spence: But we are the answer, the solution to the problem of the world not hearing about Jesus Christ.
- 41:49Mark Spence: So, as we delight ourselves in God, what does he do?
- 41:53Mark Spence: He gives us things that matter, which are heavenly spiritual things.
- 41:56Mark Spence: We've been blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenlies.
- 41:59Mark Spence: No good thing Will he withhold from those who walk up rightly that what we need is Christ to light ourselves in God we're gonna find everything we need is satisfied in him alone.
- 42:11Emeal Zwayne: Amen, so well put mark.
- 42:13Ray Comfort: Richard Orkins said, the universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is at bottom no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind pity, lessen difference.
- 42:22Ray Comfort: What a load of onions, oh.
- 42:26Emeal Zwayne: Absolutely Call them.
- 42:28Ray Comfort: Richard, open up your Bible.
- 42:30Ray Comfort: Yeah, created by God for God to enjoy pleasure forever more.
- 42:36Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, and and look when, when you're living With God himself as your purpose, it allows you the ability to endure the unthinkable.
- 42:47Emeal Zwayne: I mean, think of, think of Paul's heart, right again, driven not only to nose maker, be known by his maker, but make his maker known.
- 42:52Emeal Zwayne: Listen to what he said to the Ephesians, that to the Ephesian elders, in Acts 20, 22 to 24, he said in see, now I go, bound in the spirit, to Jerusalem, not knowing the things that will happen to me there, except.
- 43:07Emeal Zwayne: But he's saying I don't know what's gonna, what's gonna go on, except I know this the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me.
- 43:18Emeal Zwayne: So he didn't know what was gonna happen.
- 43:20Emeal Zwayne: I don't know about any good stuff, but I know this I got, I got chains coming, I got tribulation coming.
- 43:25Emeal Zwayne: And then he says this but None of these things Move me.
- 43:31Emeal Zwayne: What a focus, wow, I mean.
- 43:33Emeal Zwayne: But that in and of itself, like we could spend, and you know, an hour and just talking on that.
- 43:39Emeal Zwayne: None of these things move me.
- 43:40Emeal Zwayne: Because ultimately, that's what it comes down to, right, like what I said earlier Staying our course, not being moved, swayed by oh, my car broke down.
- 43:48Emeal Zwayne: Oh, I have this bill I got to pay.
- 43:50Emeal Zwayne: Oh, these people don't like me.
- 43:52Emeal Zwayne: Oh, they unfriended me.
- 43:53Emeal Zwayne: None of these things move me.
- 43:55Emeal Zwayne: What things that you're gonna be persecuted?
- 43:56Emeal Zwayne: You got chains coming.
- 43:57Emeal Zwayne: Nor do I count my life dear to myself.
- 44:03Ray Comfort: That's the key.
- 44:03Ray Comfort: Wow, there's not Crucified with Christ.
- 44:06Ray Comfort: Yeah, I'm no longer live Right.
- 44:09Emeal Zwayne: My life isn't dear to me because my life isn't mine, doesn't belong to me.
- 44:13Emeal Zwayne: The things that happen to me here on this earth don't matter anymore.
- 44:15Emeal Zwayne: I've set my mind on the things above, where Christ is seated, seated up in the heavenlies, right, but none of these things move me.
- 44:22Emeal Zwayne: Nor do I count my life dear to myself so that I May finish my race with joy and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus to testify to the gospel, the grace of God.
- 44:36Emeal Zwayne: There's a van Whoo.
- 44:38Emeal Zwayne: I mean again, anyone who thinks that these words are derived.
- 44:42Emeal Zwayne: Read that, by the way, that was really good.
- 44:43Emeal Zwayne: I'm just stirred by this because I'm convicted, right, because I'm so easily Deterred from my purpose.
- 44:49Emeal Zwayne: Paul saying, yeah, this is what I know definitely will happen.
- 44:52Emeal Zwayne: I don't know about anything else, but I don't care, I'm not moved, my life isn't dear to myself.
- 44:56Emeal Zwayne: What's my goal?
- 44:57Emeal Zwayne: What's my purpose?
- 44:58Emeal Zwayne: To finish that race.
- 44:59Emeal Zwayne: It's to.
- 45:00Emeal Zwayne: It's to do it with joy, to fulfill the ministry that I receive from Lord.
- 45:05Emeal Zwayne: This came from God.
- 45:06Emeal Zwayne: To what?
- 45:07Emeal Zwayne: To testify to the gospel of the grace of God.
- 45:09Emeal Zwayne: That's purpose, right there.
- 45:11Emeal Zwayne: And you know we need to be like Jesus.
- 45:14Emeal Zwayne: Isaiah 57 prophesied of him right, his face was set like flint and then we see it revealed in Luke 9.51.
- 45:20Ray Comfort: What happens when you strike flint Sparks?
- 45:23Ray Comfort: Yeah, they're trying to tear him from his Purpose and you'll get sparks like Peter.
- 45:28Ray Comfort: God, don't go to the cross, lord.
- 45:30Ray Comfort: Yeah, get behind me Satan.
- 45:32Emeal Zwayne: I love it.
- 45:32Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, yeah, I love that.
- 45:34Emeal Zwayne: Luke 9.51.
- 45:35Emeal Zwayne: Now it came to pass, when the time had come for him to be received up, that he stead, fastly, set his face to go to Jerusalem.
- 45:40Emeal Zwayne: I'm going, and he knew what awaited him.
- 45:43Emeal Zwayne: All right, but you know, it is so important to know the meaning of life.
- 45:48Mark Spence: You know, when Jesus said I've come, that you may have life and have it to the full, the church today has erroneously dissected that and Falsely said that that means to have an abundant life, meaning a joyous life, a happy life.
- 46:04Mark Spence: And then we use that as a draw card for salvation and then people experiment with our claims to see if those are true, and they've experienced trials and tribulation.
- 46:13Mark Spence: But Jesus did say that I've come, that you might have a full life.
- 46:18Mark Spence: And the reason why this is so important is because that word full that we're abundant it just means full.
- 46:26Mark Spence: Sure, jesus came to give us a full life, but if we're focused on what that actually means, it is a meaningful life.
- 46:34Mark Spence: It is devoid of aimless wanderings inside this life Now, is it wonderful in the sense that it will not have the trials and tribulation?
- 46:44Mark Spence: No, you get to determine whether or not you like it to that extent, but the truth is that we've been created for good works and it's a life filled with good works.
- 46:53Mark Spence: So we are continually walking in good works and it is at times uncomfortable, but it is a full life and Jesus came to give us that full, meaningful life, devoid of aimless wandering.
- 47:05Mark Spence: Amen.
- 47:07Oscar Navarro: Augustine has a great quote.
- 47:09Oscar Navarro: I finished his book Confessions back in January, I think it was in January.
- 47:12Oscar Navarro: He says our hearts are restless until they find their rest in you talking of the Lord.
- 47:21Oscar Navarro: And, yeah, the restlessness that so many out there feel.
- 47:25Oscar Navarro: Isn't it possible that you feel restless because you're not living out a truly purposeful life?
- 47:31Oscar Navarro: No, a life that glorifies and enjoys your maker.
- 47:35Emeal Zwayne: Amen Augustine was brilliant.
- 47:37Emeal Zwayne: Friends.
- 47:38Emeal Zwayne: Let me leave you with this.
- 47:39Emeal Zwayne: I wanna give you a word of exhortation.
- 47:40Emeal Zwayne: We've become friends now over the course of these past two years.
- 47:44Emeal Zwayne: You're telling about us guys, no, our listeners.
- 47:47Emeal Zwayne: You guys are my friends and it's been a journey, and the feedback we've gotten from so many of you about how this podcast has become a regular part of your life is so encouraging to us.
- 47:59Emeal Zwayne: But I wanna encourage you to really take to heart what I'm about to share.
- 48:03Emeal Zwayne: If we do not recalibrate and I've mentioned this word before recalibrate every day, we're going to veer off course.
- 48:14Emeal Zwayne: You know I wear a watch that is linked to the Boulder Colorado atomic clock, which keeps perfect time Like our smartphone.
- 48:24Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, exactly, but this is on my wrist, but every night it goes into this mode at midnight where you see this like a satellite dish doing lights on and off.
- 48:37Emeal Zwayne: It's recalibrating, it's connecting to that clock in Boulder, colorado, so they can realign, cause over time, even if it's a fraction of a second, it'll go off, so it's always perfectly aligned, like my phone.
- 48:49Emeal Zwayne: I mean, they turn at the exact same time Because you got no excuse of being late all the time.
- 48:53Emeal Zwayne: Yeah, constantly.
- 48:54Emeal Zwayne: Anyway, my point is friends.
- 48:56Emeal Zwayne: Look, if you really wanna live out your purpose in life, to be vibrant, like Paul the apostle you're not deterred, you're not moved, your life is not dear to you you must recalibrate.
- 49:05Emeal Zwayne: You cannot have a life that's lived out in vibrant purpose if you don't spend time with God.
- 49:11Emeal Zwayne: It's not legalism, it's not some form of attaining spiritual bragging points.
- 49:18Emeal Zwayne: It's your lifeline.
- 49:20Emeal Zwayne: How can you have a vibrant life if you're not recalibrating by connecting with your God, by pouring your heart out to him, bringing your burdens to him, by listening to his voice, through his word, and receiving guidance and truth into your life?
- 49:33Emeal Zwayne: And so you need to examine yourself I do my brother's here to need to and ask yourself what are the things that are deterring me from a passionate pursuit of God by spending intimate time with him.
- 49:45Emeal Zwayne: I hope you do that today.
- 49:47Emeal Zwayne: All right, friends, that's the end of it.
- 49:49Emeal Zwayne: The final purpose is hearing my voice.
- 49:53Emeal Zwayne: Don't forget the 10 Commandments.
- 49:55Emeal Zwayne: Scroll pen.
- 49:56Ray Comfort: They just surreaked the whole program.
- 49:59Emeal Zwayne: And the boomerang pen that Ray greatly reminded us of.
- 50:02Emeal Zwayne: Or was it Mark?
