Speaker 1: and see the High and Mighty Tour. I'll give you
0:49
Speaker 1: some LSD.
0:51
Speaker 2: Hi, Catherine.
0:52
Speaker 3: Hi, Chelsea. I have a new member in our family.
0:55
Speaker 4: Oh, my God.
0:55
Speaker 1: Watch out.
0:56
Speaker 3: There she goes.
0:58
Speaker 4: Incredible.
0:58
Speaker 1: Dougie came over to protect her. Dougie, was that a
1:00
Speaker 1: protective move? I have added to my family.
1:03
Speaker 3: Everyone, I've given birth. Her name is Denise.
1:07
Speaker 2: When I saw her, I just like gasped.
1:08
Speaker 1: It is a live mashed potato. She is not real.
1:12
Speaker 1: I can't even believe it. It's like what you fantasize
1:15
Speaker 1: about when you're a little girl and you want a puppy.
1:18
Speaker 1: She is so perfect and she already fits in nicely.
1:21
Speaker 1: I slept for about 12 hours yesterday and guess who
1:23
Speaker 1: slept by my side? And then she was on my
1:25
Speaker 1: chest at one point. I'm like, how long is this
1:27
Speaker 1: going to last? I better enjoy it.
1:29
Speaker 2: It just like, it makes your heart swell three sizes.
1:31
Speaker 2: Like it's just, it's just the best when they snuggle
1:34
Speaker 2: with you.
1:34
Speaker 3: Oh my God. She's so delicious. She is an angel.
1:37
Speaker 5: I know.
1:37
Speaker 6: And she's like a nice, perfect creamy color.
1:40
Speaker 3: Dogs all black. They coordinate so nicely.
1:43
Speaker 1: I just think from all of my dogs, I must
1:45
Speaker 1: have good dog karma because look at this.
1:47
Speaker 3: Look what I'm bringing to the table. And she's very
1:49
Speaker 3: chill for a puppy.
1:50
Speaker 4: I know.
1:51
Speaker 3: Well, she's chill.
1:51
Speaker 1: She can play or she can relax, which are two
1:53
Speaker 1: of my favorite qualities. You need to be able to
1:55
Speaker 1: get down to business and then shut the fuck up.
1:57
Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
1:58
Speaker 4: Absolutely.
1:58
Speaker 1: I'll be in Spokane this weekend. Spokane and Boise. Boise's
2:01
Speaker 1: Friday night. Spokane is Saturday night.
2:05
Speaker 3: I'm on my last... No, no.
2:09
Speaker 1: Oh, she's trying to eat our computer. Yeah, she does
2:12
Speaker 1: try to eat some things, but that's the least.
2:14
Speaker 3: Of my worries.
2:14
Speaker 1: She can eat a book if she wants. I have
2:17
Speaker 1: enough books to go around.
2:18
Speaker 4: She's so cute.
2:19
Speaker 2: Now, can we just take that from I'm on my
2:21
Speaker 2: last leg?
2:22
Speaker 4: Okay.
2:23
Speaker 3: Yes. Yes. I'm on my last leg, everybody. It's a wrap.
2:27
Speaker 1: Come see me on tour before I film my next
2:28
Speaker 1: Netflix special, which I'm filming in December. I hope to
2:32
Speaker 1: see you in the great state of Texas if you're there.
2:35
Speaker 1: I hope everybody's getting ready for the midterms, no matter
2:37
Speaker 1: what you hear or reading about. Fucking vote. This is
2:41
Speaker 1: the most important election of your lifetimes. We've heard this before,
2:45
Speaker 1: and it just keeps getting more and more important.
2:47
Speaker 4: Yes.
2:47
Speaker 1: So make sure you are registered and that you go
2:50
Speaker 1: in person because now there are people stealing ballots out
2:52
Speaker 1: of mailboxes.
2:54
Speaker 6: Yeah, and like who knows when the mail-in ballots will
2:56
Speaker 6: actually arrive, be counted.
2:57
Speaker 7: Right.
2:58
Speaker 1: So if you can go, please go on Election Day,
3:00
Speaker 1: November 3rd. And we have a special guest today. You
3:05
Speaker 1: know her from Mr. Mercedes, from Succession, and from Netflix
3:09
Speaker 1: breakout hit, Nobody Wants This, now in its third season.
3:13
Speaker 1: Please welcome Justine Luke. Hi, hearing you get set up
3:18
Speaker 1: on your Zoom is very similar to every time I
3:22
Speaker 1: have to get on a Zoom as well.
3:24
Speaker 2: Oh, it was worse before you got on. It was like,
3:28
Speaker 2: I just am. I don't know. I feel like I
3:30
Speaker 2: shouldn't be this bad by this late in the game,
3:32
Speaker 2: but I still am.
3:33
Speaker 3: So I mean, you're 37. I'm 51.
3:37
Speaker 1: So I have more of an excuse because I'm older.
3:40
Speaker 1: But you're in the exact, I don't understand.
3:42
Speaker 3: You're a digital native. I know, you're a digital native.
3:45
Speaker 3: So yeah, you don't have an excuse really.
3:48
Speaker 1: I was also dating somebody who was 37 who also
3:51
Speaker 1: didn't get tech.
3:52
Speaker 3: So yeah.
3:53
Speaker 1: So I guess it must be a younger age that
3:56
Speaker 1: is the demarcation age of people who know how to
3:58
Speaker 1: do things and people who don't.
4:00
Speaker 2: Or it just has to do with what you do.
4:03
Speaker 2: Like I'm sure that all these people with, you know,
4:05
Speaker 2: like office jobs who have to use a computer every
4:07
Speaker 2: day really understand it. But I'm like barely on a computer.
4:11
Speaker 2: So for me, I just need help with like all
4:13
Speaker 2: the things. I don't use the computer that much.
4:17
Speaker 4: I know.
4:17
Speaker 1: Don't you feel like we're going to be like a
4:20
Speaker 1: lost generation? I don't even know if we're in the
4:24
Speaker 1: same generation, but we're all going to get left behind.
4:28
Speaker 2: I'm okay with that. I'm okay with that, aren't you?
4:31
Speaker 2: I don't really want to be with my head suspended
4:34
Speaker 2: in a different place for too long. I kind of
4:37
Speaker 2: want to be on planet Earth. I feel like that's
4:39
Speaker 2: the whole problem right now is everybody's brains are just
4:41
Speaker 2: so tied into an imaginary place. space that it's like
4:45
Speaker 2: hard to get anything done here on the ground. I
4:47
Speaker 2: don't know.
4:49
Speaker 1: I've chosen massive or I should say major escapism. I
4:53
Speaker 1: have read more books in the last month than than
4:56
Speaker 1: I've ever read in my life in that short a
4:58
Speaker 1: period of time because I refuse to spend time reading
5:03
Speaker 1: about what's happening. There's nothing I can do. So I've
5:06
Speaker 1: decided to disengage and putting my phone away and reading
5:10
Speaker 1: books reminds me of what it's like to be a kid,
5:13
Speaker 1: like the escapism. I know you're reading The Correspondent.
5:17
Speaker 3: I read that. That was a great fucking book. I
5:20
Speaker 3: loved it. I read that in like two days. I
5:23
Speaker 3: love that. I love the whole framework.
5:26
Speaker 1: I like an older woman who's an interloper getting involved
5:29
Speaker 1: in other people's business.
5:31
Speaker 4: Yeah.
5:31
Speaker 3: I like that.
5:32
Speaker 1: That's exactly how I am. I like how nosy she was.
5:35
Speaker 1: I like how fucking organized she was. And I like
5:39
Speaker 1: that she had relationships with people of all different kind
5:42
Speaker 1: of like walks of life.
5:43
Speaker 3: I thought that was good.
5:45
Speaker 2: Good. I did, too. And I like that you could understand, like,
5:48
Speaker 2: why this person would be, like, insufferable to a lot
5:50
Speaker 2: of people. Yes. And, like, why her daughter hates her or, like, feels, like,
5:57
Speaker 2: so estranged. And yet, like, because you're, like, in her perspective,
6:01
Speaker 2: you really have some empathy and sympathy and you understand, like,
6:05
Speaker 2: kind of the loneliness that she's stuck in and the
6:07
Speaker 2: trauma that has brought her there. I just thought it was, like,
6:11
Speaker 2: really good. Really fun to read, really easy to go through,
6:14
Speaker 2: and also kind of, like, heartbreaking, you know. Like, it's just, like,
6:17
Speaker 2: horrible to, like, wrap your mind around, like, what this
6:20
Speaker 2: poor woman went through with her son. And I don't know.
6:24
Speaker 2: I just thought it was, like, such a sweet little
6:25
Speaker 2: portrait of life, like a woman who's lived her life. Yeah.
6:29
Speaker 3: And also a love story, a late in life love story.
6:32
Speaker 1: I really appreciate because I think, I think the older we,
6:35
Speaker 1: I know you just got married, but well, not just,
6:37
Speaker 1: but this year, right?
6:38
Speaker 3: You got married?
6:39
Speaker 2: Last, not this last February, but the February before. So
6:41
Speaker 2: it's fresh.
6:42
Speaker 4: Yes.
6:43
Speaker 2: Yeah.
6:43
Speaker 4: Okay.
6:43
Speaker 3: Congratulations.
6:44
Speaker 1: It wasn't a, I thought it was a shotgun wedding,
6:47
Speaker 1: but then I realized you had your baby there and
6:49
Speaker 1: your dog at the wedding.
6:50
Speaker 3: So what is that called?
6:52
Speaker 2: It was like, it really could have been a shotgun wedding.
6:54
Speaker 2: I mean, I didn't have my parents there. I had
6:56
Speaker 2: no relatives there. It was what we call like a
6:58
Speaker 2: cheap wedding. Like I just kind of wanted to like
7:01
Speaker 2: get him on my health insurance. And so.
7:06
Speaker 3: It's the opposite of your wedding in succession, basically.
7:09
Speaker 4: Totally.
7:10
Speaker 1: When I was doing research on you, I looked up there.
7:13
Speaker 1: I can't find it, of course, now on my iPad.
7:15
Speaker 1: I was just looking for it. But the description of
7:17
Speaker 1: your character in succession is so funny.
7:20
Speaker 3: It's like. She plays a woman who is not there
7:24
Speaker 3: for traditional reasons.
7:26
Speaker 2: That's a really generous way of describing her.
7:29
Speaker 1: That's what I thought. I'm like, let's catapult into the
7:34
Speaker 1: future and identify what this is called because there's definitely
7:38
Speaker 1: a word for it.
7:39
Speaker 2: It's like a work-for-hire situation.
7:41
Speaker 3: A work-for-hire. How did your family react to not being
7:44
Speaker 3: invited to your wedding? Were they upset?
7:46
Speaker 2: They were totally sweet about it. They knew the kind
7:49
Speaker 2: of you know, like you're constantly, I'm constantly dressed up.
7:54
Speaker 2: I'm constantly like playing like people who have to wear
7:57
Speaker 2: like a lot of hair and makeup and there's a
7:59
Speaker 2: lot of pomp and circumstance. So like for us, it
8:01
Speaker 2: was just, we already had a baby and it was
8:04
Speaker 2: just like, let's go down to the courthouse, like take
8:06
Speaker 2: care of this, like very cheaply. I'm sure my parents
8:08
Speaker 2: like loved that because they didn't have to put a
8:11
Speaker 2: dime into the whole thing. And then we just went
8:13
Speaker 2: out to dinner with a bunch of friends. So it
8:15
Speaker 2: was so casual that I don't feel like they felt
8:18
Speaker 2: like they were missing out I feel like they actually
8:21
Speaker 2: would have had more of a problem with like a
8:24
Speaker 2: big like massive wedding I mean my brother's going through
8:27
Speaker 2: that right now and I feel like that feels like
8:31
Speaker 2: way more out of their comfort zone than like what
8:33
Speaker 2: we did which was just like let's just like take
8:37
Speaker 2: care of this on a on a Wednesday you know Yeah.
8:40
Speaker 3: I like that.
8:41
Speaker 1: I like that transactional, even though it's not trans, it
8:45
Speaker 1: is transactional slightly, but I guess every wedding is kind
8:48
Speaker 1: of transactional, but I would also, I would, I'm with you.
8:51
Speaker 1: I don't need any more celebrations about myself. Like, you know,
8:56
Speaker 1: I'm with you on that front.
8:58
Speaker 2: I understand why women who don't have those days to
9:01
Speaker 2: like really feel like the princess, like want that moment.
9:05
Speaker 2: And I just don't have that desire at this point.
9:09
Speaker 4: Right.
9:09
Speaker 7: Right.
9:10
Speaker 3: I'm with you.
9:11
Speaker 1: Speaking of desires, I want to talk about some of
9:13
Speaker 1: your co-stars and who you have. The three I'm going
9:16
Speaker 1: to mention, I want you to choose who you had
9:19
Speaker 1: the biggest crush on before you worked with them. And
9:23
Speaker 1: then also who you have the biggest crush on after
9:25
Speaker 1: working with them, if any.
9:27
Speaker 3: So it's between, I guess, Adam Brody. Okay.
9:30
Speaker 1: So he's on your current show with you. Alan Ruck
9:34
Speaker 1: or Kathy Bates.
9:36
Speaker 3: Oh, wow.
9:38
Speaker 2: Okay, so by far, I had the biggest crush on
9:44
Speaker 2: Adam just because he was like, he was like injected
9:47
Speaker 2: into my veins when I was like 15. So I
9:50
Speaker 2: was like a very aware of him in the time
9:52
Speaker 2: where that was like the thing, like boy crazy obsession.
9:56
Speaker 3: I could just tell by the way you touched your
9:58
Speaker 3: hair that that.
10:01
Speaker 4: you back.
10:01
Speaker 1: It brought you back to those days.
10:03
Speaker 3: I see you.
10:05
Speaker 2: And weirdly, I didn't even watch The O.C.
10:06
Speaker 4: Regularly.
10:07
Speaker 2: I just, like, knew about him as, like, a star.
10:10
Speaker 3: Totally.
10:11
Speaker 2: He's, like, exactly, like, my vibe. Like, I just think he's, like,
10:14
Speaker 2: got that kind of, like, boyishness that, I mean, if
10:17
Speaker 2: you look at my husband, you can see, like, oh,
10:19
Speaker 2: she likes that kind of guy.
10:20
Speaker 3: Yeah.
10:20
Speaker 2: Right, right, right. And then I'd say afterwards, I'm deeply, like,
10:26
Speaker 2: in a platonic relationship with Adam. I just feel like he's, like,
10:29
Speaker 2: brotherly energy now that we work together. And he's, like,
10:33
Speaker 2: just there's such proximity to him. I would have to go.
10:38
Speaker 2: With Alan, maybe because Kathy just felt like this intimidating
10:42
Speaker 2: presence who was like so wildly talented and like such
10:46
Speaker 2: a like an icon. And so like, I guess I
10:50
Speaker 2: just knew I knew her work so well, but I
10:52
Speaker 2: never really felt like I got close to her. And
10:55
Speaker 2: for me, intimacy is like something that I really need
10:57
Speaker 2: to get like a crush on someone unless it's just
11:00
Speaker 2: based on like pure attraction like I was with Adam.
11:04
Speaker 2: So I would say Alan, I feel like after working
11:07
Speaker 2: with him, I have a little bit of a I
11:09
Speaker 2: would I would say he's the most crushable to me
11:11
Speaker 2: just because we became like very, very close friends. And
11:15
Speaker 2: and and he's so charming. And he's I have like
11:18
Speaker 2: such a talent crush on him. I think he's like
11:20
Speaker 2: makes the hardest stuff seem so easy. And he's kind
11:25
Speaker 2: of he's just like because he's kind of had this like.
11:28
Speaker 2: the blue collar version of a celebrity lifestyle, I guess,
11:32
Speaker 2: like kind of just like working without like being this
11:34
Speaker 2: like movie star guy. He's just like super grounded and
11:39
Speaker 2: really normal and totally, I just really, I just love
11:42
Speaker 2: being around him. He's great.
11:44
Speaker 3: That's nice. That's a nice compliment.
11:47
Speaker 1: What was it like going from a show like Succession
11:50
Speaker 1: to Nobody Wants This?
11:53
Speaker 2: It was a very different kind of joy. I think
11:55
Speaker 2: also like both of them are tied to different parts
11:58
Speaker 2: of my like times in my life succession. I was
12:00
Speaker 2: in my 20s when I started and I ended at
12:03
Speaker 2: like 32, I think, or 33. And and I was
12:07
Speaker 2: like kind of virtually single through that time. I had
12:10
Speaker 2: like a boyfriend, but I didn't have a kid. And
12:12
Speaker 2: I like wasn't my boyfriend. It wasn't like like a
12:15
Speaker 2: thing where I felt like I couldn't just like go
12:17
Speaker 2: out and party and have fun. And so that cast
12:20
Speaker 2: like we would be in croatia and we'd be in
12:22
Speaker 2: italy and we'd be like jumping off of boats and
12:24
Speaker 2: going swimming and then going out to dinner and it
12:26
Speaker 2: was like the best material i'd ever worked on just
12:28
Speaker 2: like really incredible writing with like really incredible actors where
12:32
Speaker 2: i got to like stand back and just watch like
12:35
Speaker 2: these kind of like powerhouse murderers row of actors just
12:39
Speaker 2: like do the most remarkable work and then moving to
12:43
Speaker 2: um nobody wants this i feel like the joy has
12:46
Speaker 2: been that i get to like be on a um
12:50
Speaker 2: a show that's got like levity and fun. And then
12:52
Speaker 2: I'm working in LA and I get to like go
12:54
Speaker 2: home to my baby and my husband and like be
12:57
Speaker 2: done by like five or six and have like a
13:00
Speaker 2: life that feels like it is normal to some degree.
13:06
Speaker 2: I think Kristen like really protects the fact that like
13:09
Speaker 2: everybody gets to have a life and not have to
13:12
Speaker 2: be there for like 16 hour days. So It's just
13:15
Speaker 2: like really been a gift to be able to like
13:18
Speaker 2: drive home in 12 minutes and go to bed like
13:22
Speaker 2: next to my husband and not be like on the
13:24
Speaker 2: other side of the world working till like one in
13:26
Speaker 2: the morning, you know?
13:28
Speaker 1: Yeah, it sounds like you got those jobs at the
13:30
Speaker 1: perfect time, both of those jobs at the perfect times
13:33
Speaker 1: in your life for those jobs.
13:35
Speaker 2: Exactly. That's how I feel too.
13:37
Speaker 4: Yeah.
13:37
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's really lucky.
13:39
Speaker 1: Okay, so you have a baby. Let's talk about parenting.
13:42
Speaker 1: Let's talk about the highs and lows of parenting. What
13:45
Speaker 1: would you say is the most boring aspect of parenting?
13:50
Speaker 2: I think the most boring.
13:53
Speaker 2: I'm not one that, like, loves sitting around. So, like,
13:56
Speaker 2: when we're just, like, home and she's just kind of, like,
13:58
Speaker 2: we're just trying to keep the ball in the air, like.
14:02
Speaker 2: It's pretty bad. It's, like, it's just deeply boring. And
14:08
Speaker 2: I'd say part of, like, the other side of the
14:11
Speaker 2: boring coin is kind of speaks to what you were
14:14
Speaker 2: talking about. It's, like, it's a great escapism because you're just, like,
14:17
Speaker 2: putting your brain into things that, like, kids put their
14:20
Speaker 2: brain into.
14:21
Speaker 3: So, like.
14:22
Speaker 2: I'm going to like a music class and I'm just
14:24
Speaker 2: like listening to like lively music and watching like children
14:27
Speaker 2: like clap and dance. And I'm like reading a children's
14:32
Speaker 2: story and I'm going to a playground and like putting
14:35
Speaker 2: my head into like that kind of, it's just like
14:37
Speaker 2: a very sweet spot to put your brain into like
14:41
Speaker 2: in a very dark time. And that's kind of like
14:44
Speaker 2: a reprieve that I'm finding. And it was like, it
14:46
Speaker 2: was kind of a surprising, a surprising thing that I
14:49
Speaker 2: found where I was like, oh, okay, this is like,
14:51
Speaker 2: is not necessarily like where I wouldn't be putting my time,
14:55
Speaker 2: but like, I love that, that these things have such
14:58
Speaker 2: like gentleness and like sweetness to them. And I get
15:02
Speaker 2: to like put my brain here a lot of the time,
15:05
Speaker 2: you know?
15:06
Speaker 4: Yeah.
15:06
Speaker 3: It's, it's fun to see kids brains light up too.
15:10
Speaker 1: And like watch their development process in those environments, especially
15:14
Speaker 1: when there's multiple children, it feeds your soul in the
15:17
Speaker 1: right way. Not that I'm at those classes very often, but.
15:21
Speaker 2: It's like such a small moment, but it bores the
15:24
Speaker 2: fuck out of me. And I just hate it is
15:26
Speaker 2: like the process of getting out the door and like
15:29
Speaker 2: putting her into a car and putting on her shoes
15:32
Speaker 2: and like getting all the shit that you need to
15:34
Speaker 2: get to get out the door. Like I'm such a
15:36
Speaker 2: type B person as a person. And so like trying
15:40
Speaker 2: to like get all the things that you could think
15:43
Speaker 2: of to put in a bag to bring with you
15:44
Speaker 2: every time you go out and like Getting her prepared.
15:47
Speaker 2: And then, like, something about putting a baby in a
15:50
Speaker 2: car seat is just, like, the worst. Like, I don't
15:53
Speaker 2: know why it, like, bothers me so much. But it's just, like,
15:56
Speaker 2: such a bore and so lame. And, like, all the
15:58
Speaker 2: little clicking things and the arranging around her body. And, like,
16:02
Speaker 2: it just is laborious and probably, like, my least favorite.
16:05
Speaker 2: favorite part of being a parent, truly.
16:08
Speaker 1: Whenever I'm skiing, I ski a lot in the winter.
16:10
Speaker 1: Whenever I'm skiing and I see a two or three
16:12
Speaker 1: year old on the slopes wrapped up in all that
16:15
Speaker 1: fucking shit that they have to put, they have to
16:17
Speaker 1: put baby ski boots.
16:19
Speaker 3: It's hard to get a ski boot.
16:21
Speaker 1: On if you're an adult and you have control and
16:23
Speaker 1: mobility over your body. Imagine putting ski boots on a
16:27
Speaker 1: baby and then wrapping them up in like three layers
16:30
Speaker 1: of clothing and then carrying their little two by four
16:33
Speaker 1: skis around And I mean, every time I see parents
16:37
Speaker 1: skiing with their kids, I'm like, you're a fucking hero.
16:40
Speaker 2: I'm like, why? Like, don't do it. Just like, just wait.
16:43
Speaker 3: Don't do that.
16:44
Speaker 4: Just like, why?
16:45
Speaker 2: I mean, even like we've gone on a couple trips
16:48
Speaker 2: and I'm like, we are not doing this unless it's
16:51
Speaker 2: absolutely necessary. I'm like never doing this again. It's just
16:55
Speaker 2: not worth it. Like this whole, like getting things ready
16:58
Speaker 2: and packing them up and putting things on and taking
17:00
Speaker 2: everything out and putting it. It's just like, I just
17:03
Speaker 2: decided it's a no for me. Like, unless it's like 100%
17:07
Speaker 2: we're doing it. Like vacations are just like, we're not
17:09
Speaker 2: doing it for a while. I'm not interested. I'm not
17:12
Speaker 2: interested in all the stuff that you described. Yeah.
17:18
Speaker 5: Yeah.
17:19
Speaker 3: I hear you. I hear you. Definitely.
17:25
Speaker 1: So you based your character on Sarah, right? Aaron created
17:30
Speaker 1: the show, and it's based on Sarah. Did you do
17:32
Speaker 1: Sarah watching research? I think I heard you talking about
17:34
Speaker 1: that once.
17:35
Speaker 2: I did.
17:35
Speaker 3: Sarah Foster and Aaron Foster, the Foster sisters, for people listening.
17:39
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I kind of, to say that it's
17:42
Speaker 2: based off of Sarah, I feel like she's offended by that,
17:45
Speaker 2: and I understand. I kind of, like, used her as, like,
17:48
Speaker 2: a light approximation. Like, she's definitely... I like kind of
17:53
Speaker 2: dug into their podcast. I listen, I've listened to every
17:56
Speaker 2: single episode since I was cast and kind of like
17:59
Speaker 2: went on a deep dive before that, just because I
18:01
Speaker 2: knew it was semi-autobiographical and I was like, oh, I
18:03
Speaker 2: can get some of the essence of who this person is.
18:07
Speaker 2: I think Morgan is like less, she's a little bit
18:11
Speaker 2: more sloppy than Sarah. Like, you know, Sarah, like Sarah's
18:14
Speaker 2: like this kind of specimen. Like it's just like insane
18:19
Speaker 2: what's happening with her. And I remember also I was
18:22
Speaker 2: growing pregnant on the show while I was shooting it.
18:25
Speaker 2: I just remember being like, well, my body has left
18:28
Speaker 2: the doc. The Sarah Foster doc is back there and
18:30
Speaker 2: my body is on a different plane. And I kind
18:34
Speaker 2: of feel like that's the case with everything about her.
18:36
Speaker 2: She just feels so presentable. And Morgan's got a little
18:39
Speaker 2: bit of me, a little bit more me in there,
18:43
Speaker 2: which is just a little bit more like loose and
18:46
Speaker 2: a little bit more, I would just say sloppy, you know,
18:50
Speaker 2: like a mess. She's a little bit more messy.
18:52
Speaker 3: To clarify, Sarah is a mess.
18:54
Speaker 1: She looks beautiful and she is gorgeous. And like you
18:58
Speaker 1: look at her and she's like, it is really a
19:00
Speaker 1: sight to behold. But she's also a hot mess.
19:03
Speaker 3: I mean, she DM'd me.
19:04
Speaker 1: This is so funny because my trainer just was talking
19:06
Speaker 1: about her yesterday morning. He goes, Sarah texts me every
19:09
Speaker 1: week and is like, are we going to train this week?
19:11
Speaker 1: And he goes, I go, yeah, whatever days you want.
19:13
Speaker 1: He goes, and then I never hear from her again.
19:15
Speaker 1: And I go, that's so funny. She DM'd me or
19:18
Speaker 1: texted me like weeks ago going, would you ever do
19:20
Speaker 1: my podcast?
19:21
Speaker 3: I go, absolutely. Absolutely. Of course.
19:23
Speaker 1: I don't hear from her for three weeks. And then
19:26
Speaker 1: she DMs me and goes, what about my podcast? I go,
19:29
Speaker 1: I already said, I'll do it.
19:31
Speaker 3: And I said, here's my assistant. I go, I'm not
19:33
Speaker 3: pawning you off. Like I follow through on shit.
19:35
Speaker 1: Like I'm very regimented about making sure I follow through,
19:38
Speaker 1: especially in this town. And then I saw them at
19:41
Speaker 1: the Netflix. I'm like, you're a hot mess. I'm like,
19:43
Speaker 1: you asked me, like, I wouldn't do it.
19:46
Speaker 3: I said, I'd do it. And I've never heard from
19:47
Speaker 3: you since. She's like, what?
19:49
Speaker 2: I've heard this and her texting that it's just like
19:51
Speaker 2: the least consistent, just like drops off. I have friends
19:55
Speaker 2: like that. And I, so I know what you're talking about.
19:57
Speaker 2: I guess I just don't know her too well interpersonally.
20:00
Speaker 2: So I'm just like seeing the like version of her
20:03
Speaker 2: that is like presentable, you know, like we don't really.
20:06
Speaker 4: Right, right.
20:07
Speaker 2: Well, but that track, I like, I like. That's good
20:09
Speaker 2: to know. Maybe there's more of a similarity between the
20:13
Speaker 2: characters than I know.
20:14
Speaker 1: Yeah, you can pick that habit up for your character.
20:17
Speaker 1: You wrote an article about the best way to spend
20:19
Speaker 1: time or to spend a Sunday in LA.
20:21
Speaker 3: So I want to talk about that.
20:23
Speaker 4: Yeah.
20:23
Speaker 1: And what are the things in LA that everyone's doing
20:26
Speaker 1: that you would never do? And I think we have
20:28
Speaker 1: some insight to that from your talk about leaving the
20:31
Speaker 1: house with your child.
20:32
Speaker 3: Strapping a baby in the car.
20:33
Speaker 1: But there's a lot of things like I, because I
20:34
Speaker 1: struggle with LA a little bit in terms of atmosphere
20:39
Speaker 1: like I feel like it's a little bit soulless and
20:42
Speaker 1: it's like you really have to make things happen here
20:45
Speaker 1: when you're in New York it's literally no problem wherever
20:48
Speaker 1: you go has character or soul most of the time
20:51
Speaker 1: I find but in LA I find it to be
20:53
Speaker 1: a little bit like stunting I'm always like uh where
20:57
Speaker 1: do you live I live in Brentwood which is part
20:59
Speaker 1: of the problem yeah but now I can't leave because
21:02
Speaker 1: I just built this house so I'm stuck here for
21:04
Speaker 1: a while.
21:05
Speaker 2: I mean, it's beautiful. It's beautiful. But I do feel
21:07
Speaker 2: like I'm on east, east, east side of things, which
21:12
Speaker 2: I do feel like has a little bit just a
21:14
Speaker 2: tiny bit more of that on the table.
21:17
Speaker 3: Maybe, you know.
21:19
Speaker 2: But yes, I understand the feeling for sure. I think
21:21
Speaker 2: that's why I've like gone further and further and further
21:24
Speaker 2: away from like L.A. proper, I guess I would say.
21:28
Speaker 1: Yesterday I went to pick up. This is a great
21:29
Speaker 1: example of L.A., I went to go pick up my girlfriend.
21:32
Speaker 1: I had sets last night at like the comedy store
21:34
Speaker 1: and the improv. And I went to pick up my
21:36
Speaker 1: girlfriend for early because we were going to dinner. She
21:38
Speaker 1: lives in Mar Vista. It took me, and I live
21:41
Speaker 1: in Brentwood. It's a 20 minute drive. It took me
21:44
Speaker 1: one hour and 15 minutes. So I'm on the 10
21:47
Speaker 1: and there's some nonsense happening, some accident or no, they
21:51
Speaker 1: close off the freeway because it gets too packed. So
21:53
Speaker 1: they close it off to create more. And so I
21:55
Speaker 1: just give up. Like I'm laughing. I'm like, well, we'll
21:57
Speaker 1: probably won't make.
21:58
Speaker 4: It to dinner.
21:59
Speaker 1: We'll make it to my sets. And then I was like,
22:01
Speaker 1: let me do a social experiment. I was like, there's
22:04
Speaker 1: like men on the shoulder. There's cars all over the
22:06
Speaker 1: shoulder and people trying to get in because there was
22:08
Speaker 1: a car stopped on the shoulder.
22:09
Speaker 3: So it was misleading.
22:11
Speaker 1: And then people are trying to get back in. And
22:12
Speaker 1: I'm like, none of us are going anywhere. This is
22:14
Speaker 1: a parking lot. I'm going to let people come in.
22:17
Speaker 1: What else do I, who cares? Let's spread good vibrations.
22:20
Speaker 1: So I waved to a man and I was like,
22:22
Speaker 1: do you want to go in?
22:23
Speaker 3: And he's like, what, what?
22:24
Speaker 1: And I'm like, come on in, go in, go in
22:26
Speaker 1: front of me. And he goes in, no thank you.
22:28
Speaker 1: Just goes in, nothing, nothing. I do it to another
22:31
Speaker 1: guy and no thank you, gets in front of me.
22:34
Speaker 1: A third guy, I go, okay, third time's a charm.
22:37
Speaker 1: Let's see if this guy says fucking thank you. He
22:40
Speaker 1: gets in front of me and doesn't say thank you.
22:42
Speaker 1: I go, okay, that's enough with the men. So I
22:44
Speaker 1: look around for a woman. I look around for a
22:46
Speaker 1: woman and I'm like, I see a woman. I'm like, hey,
22:48
Speaker 1: do you want to get in front of me at
22:50
Speaker 1: this point? The guy behind me is like, fucking stop
22:52
Speaker 1: letting people in front of you.
22:53
Speaker 4: Yeah.
22:54
Speaker 3: But I was like, you know, none of us are
22:56
Speaker 3: going to do it.
22:56
Speaker 5: I know.
22:57
Speaker 3: I was like, let's try it. Make this fun. And anyway,
23:00
Speaker 3: and then the woman's like, thank you so much. And
23:02
Speaker 3: I was like, oh, God. I mean, it's unreal.
23:04
Speaker 2: It's just a wave.
23:04
Speaker 3: It's just unreal. He didn't say thank you.
23:08
Speaker 1: But when my friends were asking, we were away, and
23:11
Speaker 1: my friends were asking what the biggest, they were asking
23:14
Speaker 1: my assistant what the biggest acclimation to L.A.
23:16
Speaker 2: Was.
23:17
Speaker 3: And he was like, traffic. Traffic.
23:20
Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, yeah, because we're so used
23:21
Speaker 1: to it that you don't even think about it.
23:24
Speaker 3: But it's absolutely absurd. It's just so.
23:27
Speaker 2: It's bad. It's bad to the point where I'm like,
23:30
Speaker 2: I'm like scrambling because, you know, all the doctors are
23:33
Speaker 2: in Beverly Hills and I'm all the way in Eagle Rock.
23:35
Speaker 2: And I'm like, just I'm like, I guess like the
23:37
Speaker 2: great experiment of my life or the great thing that
23:39
Speaker 2: I'm like, like the constant question is like, who are there?
23:42
Speaker 2: Is there anyone else? Like, is there any other way?
23:44
Speaker 2: I just like don't want to drive over there anymore. Yeah.
23:48
Speaker 2: Like I'm so done with the like cross track, like
23:52
Speaker 2: cross town trek to go see doctors, especially like when
23:55
Speaker 2: I was pregnant and you're at the last like stretch
23:57
Speaker 2: and you have to go back like every single day
24:00
Speaker 2: at the very end. And I was just like, this
24:01
Speaker 2: is torture. Like just being like a pregnant woman in
24:04
Speaker 2: a car, like for two hours every day, at least
24:08
Speaker 2: two hours, like an hour there, an hour back just
24:10
Speaker 2: to get to a doctor's office. Like this is so dumb.
24:13
Speaker 7: I hate it.
24:13
Speaker 5: I know.
24:13
Speaker 1: It's so funny that they don't have doctor's office spread
24:16
Speaker 1: out throughout the city.
24:17
Speaker 3: Not really.
24:17
Speaker 6: Yeah.
24:18
Speaker 1: I should actually just move into a medical building. That
24:20
Speaker 1: would make my life a lot easier.
24:21
Speaker 3: You're pretty close, right? And I'm not even pregnant.
24:23
Speaker 2: You're pretty close.
24:23
Speaker 3: I am close. I am close. In the daytime, it's easy.
24:26
Speaker 1: But at nighttime, if I have dinner, tonight I have
24:28
Speaker 1: a dinner at 7.30 and I have an appointment at
24:30
Speaker 1: 4.30 and I'm like, why better just.
24:32
Speaker 3: Stay on that side of town?
24:33
Speaker 2: Yeah, really.
24:33
Speaker 1: Because it's going to be a hot mess. But what
24:36
Speaker 1: are your favorite things to do in LA? Like talk
24:38
Speaker 1: more about that. What are some of like the highlights
24:41
Speaker 1: that you would make sure you do when you have
24:43
Speaker 1: somebody in town or recommend to people?
24:45
Speaker 2: Yeah, I would say Olympic spa. is one of my
24:49
Speaker 2: favorite places. I love like a full day at Olympic Spa,
24:53
Speaker 2: just like basically just soaking, getting my body scrubbed, feeling
24:59
Speaker 2: like I'm just like being manhandled by the masseuses. I
25:02
Speaker 2: don't know if you've ever been to like a Korean
25:03
Speaker 2: spa experience, but it's just like amazing. They like kind
25:05
Speaker 2: of just like flip you around and scrub you and
25:07
Speaker 2: like you don't, you feel like a piece of me
25:09
Speaker 2: and it's kind of like this like amazing experience and
25:12
Speaker 2: it feels like so singularly LA.
25:14
Speaker 3: I feel like.
25:17
Speaker 2: Food. There's really good food. I feel like there's good
25:20
Speaker 2: sushi here. So I would like if you're into sushi,
25:22
Speaker 2: maybe do some like sushi in Studio City. I mean,
25:25
Speaker 2: it's so hard now because I'm I'm like all the
25:28
Speaker 2: things that I used to do, like I don't do
25:31
Speaker 2: as much anymore, like go to movies and go on
25:33
Speaker 2: walks and go on like hikes and stuff. I like
25:36
Speaker 2: it's just not. As like now my whole life is
25:39
Speaker 2: like we're going to the library on Tuesdays and Thursdays
25:42
Speaker 2: for this like singing class or we're going to like
25:44
Speaker 2: kids space, which is like an amazing children's museum or
25:47
Speaker 2: we're going to, you know, like in the free time
25:49
Speaker 2: that I have, we do so much her and I
25:52
Speaker 2: together that it's hard. There's amazing museums in L.A. I
25:55
Speaker 2: would say like. LACMA is pretty stellar. The Getty is amazing.
26:00
Speaker 2: I feel like it's some of the best art in
26:02
Speaker 2: the country is in LA.
26:03
Speaker 3: So that would be- Have you been to the Broad? Yes,
26:06
Speaker 3: I have been to the Broad. I love it.
26:07
Speaker 4: I love that.
26:08
Speaker 2: And Hammer is great.
26:10
Speaker 1: It's funny that some of the things that people talk
26:12
Speaker 1: about in LA are some of the most ridiculous activities,
26:15
Speaker 1: like some of the tentpole things.
26:16
Speaker 4: Yeah.
26:17
Speaker 2: What do you think of?
26:19
Speaker 1: I'm thinking of like the Magic Castle and the tarp
26:22
Speaker 1: and like the Brea Tar Pits. Like People do these
26:25
Speaker 1: things when they come here and you're like, what are
26:28
Speaker 1: you doing?
26:29
Speaker 3: Like people talk, there are people that take, is it,
26:32
Speaker 3: what's it called? Medieval castle?
26:33
Speaker 2: Magic castle.
26:34
Speaker 4: Okay.
26:35
Speaker 3: Matt, people talk about that.
26:37
Speaker 1: I mean, I remember being 19 years old when I
26:40
Speaker 1: moved to LA and someone taking me there. And me
26:42
Speaker 1: just seeing like the decor and I was like, no,
26:46
Speaker 1: this is not happening at all.
26:48
Speaker 2: No, I'd heard about it for years and years and years.
26:50
Speaker 2: Everybody talks about it. It's like, and also they make
26:52
Speaker 2: it seem like it's like this like really special place.
26:54
Speaker 2: You've got to get like a connection to get in
26:57
Speaker 2: to go there. And then I went there one time
27:00
Speaker 2: and I thought it was going to be like, I
27:01
Speaker 2: treated like four people. I was like, let's go. Like,
27:04
Speaker 2: this is going to be amazing. Like it's the magic castle.
27:06
Speaker 2: And I went there. And it's, like, all, like, icky feeling. Like,
27:10
Speaker 2: everything feels like it's sticky. Like a magician. A magician
27:14
Speaker 2: during the daytime. That's what that place feels like. And
27:16
Speaker 2: it's not even, like, I mean, our time that we went,
27:19
Speaker 2: I just remember being, like, this is, like, I love magic.
27:22
Speaker 2: I actually am, like, into magic. I've had.
27:24
Speaker 3: Oh, I'm sorry to hear that.
27:25
Speaker 4: I know.
27:25
Speaker 2: I'm a nerd. I... But like good magic. I'm like, great.
27:29
Speaker 2: I'm in like I love a good magic show. I
27:31
Speaker 2: thought that was like kind of mediocre pedestrian magic that
27:34
Speaker 2: was kind of like, what are we doing? We spent
27:36
Speaker 2: this much money and then we have to sit in
27:37
Speaker 2: this like kind of gross restaurant and eat pretty bad food. Like,
27:42
Speaker 2: it was just a weird experience for me. And I
27:45
Speaker 2: feel like the people that I went with had fun
27:46
Speaker 2: because they just, like, got drunk. Like, they just, like,
27:48
Speaker 2: got drunk enough that they were like, this is a blackout.
27:50
Speaker 3: Alcohol is a heavy component there. You have to get
27:52
Speaker 3: drunk at that place. Do you like magicians? Like, do
27:55
Speaker 3: you like David Copperfield and, like, those types of people?
27:58
Speaker 3: I like a.
28:00
Speaker 2: David Blaine kind of guy.
28:02
Speaker 3: Okay.
28:02
Speaker 2: The ones that just do like the crazy like street
28:05
Speaker 2: magic where you're like, what the fuck? How did you
28:06
Speaker 2: even do that? I do. I do kind of like
28:09
Speaker 2: that kind of magic. I'm not as into like the
28:11
Speaker 2: grandiose like I like street magic more than I like
28:14
Speaker 2: the like, it's a magic show.
28:17
Speaker 1: You know, I like that phrase or the term street magic.
28:20
Speaker 3: Yeah, I guess I haven't really realized.
28:22
Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know if it's an official. I
28:24
Speaker 2: just made that. I just I just said it. But
28:26
Speaker 2: you know what I'm talking about where it's like. They
28:28
Speaker 2: just it's like it's like they're like kind of casual
28:30
Speaker 2: guys that are just like want to see something crazy.
28:33
Speaker 2: And it's like less of like the whole like magician.
28:36
Speaker 3: OK, copy that.
28:41
Speaker 1: How do you feel about Universal Studios and Disney World
28:46
Speaker 1: or Land?
28:47
Speaker 3: Are we in Land? We're in Land.
28:49
Speaker 2: Love for kids. Loved it as a kid. not into
28:54
Speaker 2: it as an adult. I think I would like, I
28:56
Speaker 2: I'm waiting for the day that I get to bring
28:58
Speaker 2: my daughter there just to see her excitement around it.
29:02
Speaker 2: But when I've gone as an adult by myself, it
29:05
Speaker 2: does not do it for me. It's too much of
29:08
Speaker 2: a production. I feel like I just like, I'm so
29:11
Speaker 2: tired by like hour three. So that's my, that's my
29:15
Speaker 2: hot take. I have, I have a friend who literally
29:20
Speaker 2: like his idea of a good time is, is to
29:22
Speaker 2: like go there every weekend and like go on a walk,
29:25
Speaker 2: like just go on a walk. Like he has one
29:27
Speaker 2: of those passes and he's like, it's the best place
29:29
Speaker 2: to go on a walk and like just loves Disneyland.
29:32
Speaker 2: And I'm like, wow, that's not for me. Do you
29:34
Speaker 2: like it? No, no.
29:36
Speaker 3: And I also, as a child, did it. appreciate it either.
29:41
Speaker 4: Oh, really?
29:41
Speaker 2: As a child, I loved it. I remember my parents,
29:48
Speaker 2: I think I was maybe five, and we drove. I
29:53
Speaker 2: remember them loading me into the car in the middle
29:55
Speaker 2: of the night with a bunch of pillows and my
29:58
Speaker 2: little brother, and they drove from Denver to LA and
30:03
Speaker 2: we like stayed at Disneyland and we did the whole thing.
30:06
Speaker 2: And I still remember just like being like, this is
30:09
Speaker 2: the most amazing place. Like I remember the Peter Pan ride.
30:12
Speaker 2: I remember Pirates of the Caribbean. Like I really, it
30:17
Speaker 2: made an impact on me as like a kid. So
30:20
Speaker 2: I was also just obsessed with Disney when I was
30:22
Speaker 2: little though. So maybe that was part of it.
30:24
Speaker 4: Yeah.
30:25
Speaker 1: I mean, I think we all are obsessed with Disney
30:27
Speaker 1: as a kid. That's what we grow up on. Everything
30:29
Speaker 1: is Disney adjacent or related, right?
30:32
Speaker 2: Yeah.
30:32
Speaker 7: Yeah.
30:32
Speaker 2: I mean, a lot of stuff.
30:34
Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah.
30:35
Speaker 3: I remember just going and being like, what?
30:37
Speaker 1: I just remember being disgusted by it.
30:41
Speaker 3: What a shithole.
30:42
Speaker 1: Just a shit show. I just thought, what a shit show.
30:45
Speaker 1: You know what I thought? I thought, what a racket.
30:49
Speaker 3: No, it is that.
30:49
Speaker 1: And then I also had the thought, and I remember
30:52
Speaker 1: because it was a very older person's thought, but I'm
30:54
Speaker 1: the youngest of six kids, so I was older before
30:57
Speaker 1: I was older.
30:57
Speaker 3: I remember thinking, this dynamic is off. That's what I remember.
31:03
Speaker 3: I remember thinking.
31:05
Speaker 1: So tell me about working with Kristen and tell me,
31:07
Speaker 1: has her biohacking rubbed off on you?
31:09
Speaker 3: All her biohacking?
31:11
Speaker 2: I know. Not really. I know. No, it hasn't really
31:16
Speaker 2: rubbed off on me. I like I think prior to
31:19
Speaker 2: meeting her, I already liked a cold plunge sauna situation.
31:22
Speaker 2: So like that is kind of where it begins and
31:24
Speaker 2: ends with me. Like the glucose monitor. I had like
31:28
Speaker 2: a curiosity about it, but I like it was like
31:31
Speaker 2: another one of those technology things where it's like all
31:34
Speaker 2: the steps that you have to take to like get
31:35
Speaker 2: this program and get it set up and get the
31:37
Speaker 2: like the right setting where it's not for diabetes. It's
31:40
Speaker 2: just a glucose thing.
31:42
Speaker 4: I don't know.
31:42
Speaker 2: It just felt hard for me. Again, technology.
31:44
Speaker 3: Yeah. Do you wear an aura ring?
31:46
Speaker 4: No.
31:46
Speaker 2: Uh-uh.
31:46
Speaker 4: You?
31:50
Speaker 1: No, but I had a guy I was dating give
31:52
Speaker 1: me one Oura ring as he brought it for me.
31:55
Speaker 1: And I gave it straight to Yamanika, my friend. I
31:57
Speaker 1: was like, here's an Oura ring. I don't like obsessive behavior.
32:03
Speaker 1: My brain, it doesn't go well with checking stats or
32:07
Speaker 1: sleep scores or how many steps. I mean, steps are
32:10
Speaker 1: fun once in a while. If I'm in the city,
32:12
Speaker 1: I'll be like, oh, how many steps? Or if I'm
32:14
Speaker 1: Walking a lot.
32:14
Speaker 8: Okay.
32:15
Speaker 1: That's fun to look at, but I know the way
32:18
Speaker 1: I get and I become consumed. So it's better to
32:20
Speaker 1: disengage from too much information for me.
32:23
Speaker 3: Like I don't like the data. Yeah.
32:26
Speaker 2: Cause you could go there. You can go there and
32:27
Speaker 2: you're like, I don't want to go there. I don't
32:29
Speaker 2: want to be that, that gal.
32:30
Speaker 3: Yeah, and I have other things to do. You know
32:33
Speaker 3: what I mean? Like, I don't want to spend my
32:35
Speaker 3: time doing that.
32:36
Speaker 1: I already feel like I've been robbed of some of
32:39
Speaker 1: my intelligence from social media and our reliance on that.
32:43
Speaker 1: So I'm like really trying to take the power back.
32:46
Speaker 1: But yes, I don't like monitoring sleep. I don't like,
32:48
Speaker 1: you know, I don't, first of all, I don't want
32:49
Speaker 1: to hear about anyone's sleep score, to be clear.
32:52
Speaker 3: Like, I'm not interested.
32:54
Speaker 1: That's great for you to monitor, but it becomes a
32:57
Speaker 1: like competition with yourself.
32:59
Speaker 4: Yeah.
32:59
Speaker 3: How much did I sleep? I didn't sleep.
33:01
Speaker 1: And what are you going to fucking do about it anyway?
33:03
Speaker 1: I guess alter your behavior, but I'm not really going
33:06
Speaker 1: to alter any behaviors.
33:07
Speaker 2: I imagine for me, it would, I would like, it
33:09
Speaker 2: would create a little bit of like anxiety around like
33:11
Speaker 2: what I need to do to create the best environment
33:13
Speaker 2: to get the sleep.
33:14
Speaker 3: I don't know.
33:15
Speaker 2: It's just never gotten, it's never been something that I'm like, uh,
33:19
Speaker 2: that interested. I think I'm interested in things that feel good.
33:23
Speaker 2: So like, I like the cold plunge sauna thing. I like,
33:28
Speaker 2: I mean, I like eating healthy because I just feel
33:30
Speaker 2: better when I eat healthy. So like there's like things
33:32
Speaker 2: that I do that are just like smart, but I
33:34
Speaker 2: wouldn't call them like biohacking. I'm not into the peptide
33:38
Speaker 2: thing yet.
33:39
Speaker 6: Didn't you play like a bit of a biohacking based
33:41
Speaker 6: prank on Kristen at some point?
33:43
Speaker 4: Yes.
33:43
Speaker 2: So she's like because she's so obsessed with biohacking and
33:47
Speaker 2: she does like every single thing. Like she's done the peptides.
33:50
Speaker 2: She's done the like the glucose monitor. She's done She's
33:53
Speaker 2: like obsessed with the cold plunge, the sauna, the I mean,
33:56
Speaker 2: it's like anything that's like kind of on the table
33:58
Speaker 2: she's interested in. So I was like, oh, what would
34:00
Speaker 2: be like a funny, fun thing like that kind of
34:02
Speaker 2: feels like one step away from like reality that someone
34:06
Speaker 2: could do. And so like I spent like three months
34:09
Speaker 2: convincing her that I was drinking my own urine as
34:12
Speaker 2: a bit. Just because it was fun for me to
34:16
Speaker 2: see how much she would buy in and how she
34:20
Speaker 2: would respond. I never thought she would actually drink her
34:22
Speaker 2: own pee, but I was like, how curious can I
34:24
Speaker 2: get her about the benefits of this made-up thing? And
34:28
Speaker 2: I created fake articles about it.
34:31
Speaker 4: And.
34:34
Speaker 3: I didn't know that part. I didn't know you created
34:36
Speaker 3: fake articles.
34:37
Speaker 2: I would like call a PA and like the PAs
34:39
Speaker 2: were all in on it. And like, like pretty much
34:41
Speaker 2: everybody was in on it but her, but I would
34:43
Speaker 2: call a PA and be like, hey, can you grab
34:45
Speaker 2: my water bottle from my trailer? And like full disclosure,
34:48
Speaker 2: like I do feel like I should tell you if
34:49
Speaker 2: you don't feel comfortable, there is like my own pee
34:51
Speaker 2: in there. So like, if you don't want to bring
34:54
Speaker 2: it to me, like I really understand. And she would like,
34:57
Speaker 2: she'd be hearing all this. And so there was like
34:59
Speaker 2: a whole like bit about it. And then it ended
35:01
Speaker 2: with me bringing her six like large jars of chamomile
35:06
Speaker 2: tea that I told her was like my best pee
35:08
Speaker 2: that I had gotten ready for her. It was like
35:11
Speaker 2: so dumb. The whole thing was so dumb, but I
35:13
Speaker 2: was just like, this is fun. And it's, I don't know.
35:16
Speaker 2: It was, it was, it was the only long game
35:19
Speaker 2: prank I've ever played. And it was like a pretty
35:22
Speaker 2: satisfying one.
35:24
Speaker 4: Yeah.
35:24
Speaker 2: That's a good one.
35:25
Speaker 3: That's fun. That's fun when you're on a set and
35:27
Speaker 3: you can do stuff like that. That reminds me of, yeah.
35:31
Speaker 3: I like that kind of nonsense.
35:32
Speaker 2: I mean, it's like it sounds like you're like, wow,
35:35
Speaker 2: you're a really committed actress that this is what you're
35:37
Speaker 2: spending your time on set doing. But it was fun.
35:42
Speaker 2: It was fun. And it's like a relaxed environment. So
35:45
Speaker 2: it lent itself to stupid stuff.
35:47
Speaker 1: Yeah, it sounds like an ideal situation and an ideal
35:50
Speaker 1: job at the exact right time in your life.
35:53
Speaker 3: Did you have a difficult pregnancy, by the way, or
35:55
Speaker 3: was it easy?
35:57
Speaker 2: The first trimester was really exhausting. I didn't have any nausea,
36:01
Speaker 2: but I just felt like I had like what I
36:03
Speaker 2: imagined mono was like. I just pretty much like canceled
36:06
Speaker 2: everything and just like was flatlined for the whole thing.
36:10
Speaker 2: And I luckily I wasn't working during that trimester. The
36:14
Speaker 2: second trimester was amazing. And I did like the whole
36:17
Speaker 2: first season during my second trimester, which was like the
36:20
Speaker 2: best because you just have this like kind of like
36:24
Speaker 2: renaissance after that terrible three months and you just feel great.
36:28
Speaker 2: And you're like, I kind of feel like, I don't know.
36:30
Speaker 2: I just really enjoyed that time. And then the end
36:33
Speaker 2: of it, uh, is psychologically like for me, my body
36:38
Speaker 2: felt okay with like a few exceptions of like some
36:40
Speaker 2: sciatica that was like pretty crippling. Um, but by the
36:44
Speaker 2: end of it, I was just like, I was just
36:47
Speaker 2: so ready to get the baby out of me. Like
36:50
Speaker 2: I was loose. I think that was like the hardest part.
36:53
Speaker 2: stretch for me and my husband like I was just
36:55
Speaker 2: like a miserable person and that was like crying all
36:58
Speaker 2: the time just being like I'm done I'm over it's
37:00
Speaker 2: over for me I'm like we've got to it's got
37:02
Speaker 2: to happen now do.
37:04
Speaker 3: You remember what your first drink was after you or
37:07
Speaker 3: do you drink.
37:08
Speaker 2: Uh I I do like a little bit I I
37:10
Speaker 2: come from like a family of alcoholics so I try
37:14
Speaker 2: not to drink much.
37:16
Speaker 1: Wonderful I'm actually a first generation alcoholic in my family.
37:19
Speaker 1: So I'm taking the tour. I'm creating a new lineage.
37:22
Speaker 1: Thank you. It's the final frontier or the first frontier.
37:29
Speaker 3: I'm not sure.
37:30
Speaker 1: Um, yeah, my parents didn't drink at all, but we
37:32
Speaker 1: all drink except for my one sister.
37:35
Speaker 3: She pretends to drink. She can't really handle it.
37:37
Speaker 4: Wow.
37:37
Speaker 2: You all drink and they didn't at all.
37:40
Speaker 1: No, they didn't drink anything. I mean, my dad once
37:42
Speaker 1: in a while, uh, But it's so, yeah, it's so funny.
37:46
Speaker 1: Like people are like, oh, they assume our parents were
37:48
Speaker 1: just heavy drinkers because we all like to party.
37:50
Speaker 3: And we're like, no.
37:51
Speaker 1: We were so bored in our childhood. We're like, let's
37:53
Speaker 1: get the party started. When is the party start? Like
37:56
Speaker 1: it was always just boring. I kind of, I know
37:59
Speaker 1: I not to be, it's silly to be envious of
38:01
Speaker 1: people who grew up with parents that were alcoholics. But
38:05
Speaker 1: when every book, I don't know, have you ever read
38:07
Speaker 1: Lily King? This author, Lily King, writers and lovers. Like
38:11
Speaker 1: all of her books always have the, I'm reading one
38:13
Speaker 1: of her books right now, Father of the Rain. And
38:16
Speaker 1: all of her backdrops, somebody's an alcoholic because obviously she
38:19
Speaker 1: grew up like that. And I'm, I just think it's so,
38:22
Speaker 1: it's colorful to read about much more than I'm sure
38:25
Speaker 1: to live it.
38:25
Speaker 3: But as a reader, I'm always like, this sounds fun
38:28
Speaker 3: and juicy.
38:29
Speaker 2: Yeah.
38:30
Speaker 4: Yeah.
38:30
Speaker 2: Not, not as fun. Not as fun. But I mean,
38:34
Speaker 2: even myself, I find when I was listening to, um,
38:37
Speaker 2: I was just listening to a song by Casey Musgraves
38:44
Speaker 2: and Zach Bryan or whatever his name is, this huge
38:48
Speaker 2: country singer. It's about these two lovers that are wasted
38:51
Speaker 2: all the time. They're wasted all the time and they're
38:54
Speaker 2: talking about how they would just get drunk and you
38:56
Speaker 2: only smile like that when you're drinking. And I was
38:58
Speaker 2: just like, this is so hot.
39:01
Speaker 3: Like, this dynamic.
39:03
Speaker 2: I was like, I want to write a movie. I
39:04
Speaker 2: want to be in a movie about this story. But
39:07
Speaker 2: the reality of it is just, like, far more, like, just, like,
39:10
Speaker 2: kind of, like, ugh, God. It's not that. It's not it. So, yeah, I, like,
39:16
Speaker 2: I honestly, I don't remember what I drank after. I
39:20
Speaker 2: also drank a little bit during my pregnancy. I would
39:23
Speaker 2: have like a glass of wine here and there. And
39:25
Speaker 2: I just like because it wasn't an issue for me,
39:27
Speaker 2: I was just kind of like a little bit more
39:29
Speaker 2: relaxed about it. I read a really great book by
39:33
Speaker 2: Emily Oster, who's this like incredible. She like basically is
39:38
Speaker 2: does like incredible research on pregnancy and and prenatal health
39:43
Speaker 2: and all that stuff. And she was basically like one
39:45
Speaker 2: glass of wine is fine. One glass of coffee is fine.
39:48
Speaker 2: One is like. Pie and sushi, a little bit of
39:51
Speaker 2: that is fine.
39:53
Speaker 3: One glass of anything is fine, pretty much.
39:57
Speaker 7: True, right?
39:58
Speaker 1: I mean, what's going to happen? Unless, I guess, maybe
40:01
Speaker 1: not fentanyl or something like that.
40:03
Speaker 3: But you can't really. That's not really a glass anyway.
40:05
Speaker 3: One little hit of the crack, it's fine. One needle
40:09
Speaker 3: is fine. Yeah, one glass crack pipe.
40:11
Speaker 4: One syringe full.
40:16
Speaker 3: Okay, we're going to take callers, Justine, and we're going
40:19
Speaker 3: to give advice, okay?
40:20
Speaker 2: Yeah, great.
40:22
Speaker 3: These are real people. Is the first one a caller?
40:24
Speaker 4: Yeah.
40:24
Speaker 3: Okay, great. Yeah, we're going to start with callers.
40:26
Speaker 1: Awesome.
40:27
Speaker 3: Let's hit it. Okay.
40:30
Speaker 6: Okay, so let's start with Demetrius.
40:33
Speaker 3: Demetrius? Demetrius. Is that short for Demetriosis?
40:37
Speaker 2: I think so. He is a fun one.
40:40
Speaker 3: So he says, Dear Chelsea. My name is Demetrios. Quick recap.
40:43
Speaker 6: I was born and raised in Greece, moved to Dubai
40:45
Speaker 6: and traveled with work globally for seven years, fell in
40:48
Speaker 6: love in San Fran, quit my Dubai job, moved to NYC,
40:52
Speaker 6: won the green card lottery and cut to today. I've
40:54
Speaker 6: been living in West LA the past five years, pursuing
40:57
Speaker 6: my acting and standup career. As I focus on my
41:00
Speaker 6: personal growth, I always feel like my dating life in
41:02
Speaker 6: LA is imaginary. Dating is terrible in LA. And on
41:05
Speaker 6: top of that, it's harder to date when I work
41:07
Speaker 6: in hospitality, weird hours and weird days off.
41:10
Speaker 2: Also, I'm not the king of England.
41:12
Speaker 6: I'm barely middle class in Greece, but I guess due
41:14
Speaker 6: to traveling in every continent and tasting culture, I'm well-rounded,
41:18
Speaker 6: question mark, but most of the times the people I
41:20
Speaker 6: meet at my workplace or the people I come across always.
41:23
Speaker 2: Seem a bit unpolished.
41:25
Speaker 6: I've been trying to make friendships in LA, but I
41:27
Speaker 6: find it difficult because I've lived like a celebrity without
41:30
Speaker 6: the fame, so it's hard to meet someone cosmopolitan the
41:32
Speaker 6: way I live right now, but I can't dumb down
41:34
Speaker 6: my taste. Also, I'm comfortable alone, but I just believe
41:37
Speaker 6: that life is better shared. Chelsea has been one of
41:40
Speaker 6: the three to four influences in my life that made
41:42
Speaker 6: me want to chase my wildest dreams, leave everything. I
41:45
Speaker 6: lived in Manhattan for five years and was loving it.
41:47
Speaker 6: The pace, the people, I made friends easily. I haven't
41:50
Speaker 6: yet liked LA. I haven't met genuine, nice, and cool people.
41:53
Speaker 6: Sad to say. Any advice, ladies? Kisses, Demetrius.
41:57
Speaker 1: Oh, hi, Demetrius. This is our special guest. Justine Loop
42:02
Speaker 1: is here.
42:02
Speaker 4: Hi.
42:02
Speaker 3: Oh, hi.
42:03
Speaker 4: Nice to meet you. I'm very nervous I'm sorry it's.
42:09
Speaker 1: Okay don't worry about it nothing to be nervous about
42:12
Speaker 1: we're just on TV together yeah right First of all,
42:16
Speaker 1: Justine wrote, she had a great piece about things that
42:19
Speaker 1: she loves to do in L.A., which you should look up.
42:22
Speaker 3: Is it the L.A. Times? What was that for?
42:24
Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so.
42:25
Speaker 3: It was the L.A. Times, yeah. A thing she likes
42:28
Speaker 3: to do in L.A. I would say, A, L.A.
42:30
Speaker 1: Is a little tricky place because there's a lot of, like,
42:34
Speaker 1: it's very centered, it's obviously centered around the industry. And
42:37
Speaker 1: so there's, it's, it's, there's a lot of flakiness and
42:40
Speaker 1: there's a lot of weirdos here. So I understand what
42:43
Speaker 1: you're saying, but I think when, when that happens and
42:46
Speaker 1: life kind of presents in that way where you're like
42:48
Speaker 1: not finding your people, you really have to get out
42:50
Speaker 1: of your comfort zone and do things that you don't
42:52
Speaker 1: normally do. So like, what are things that you like
42:56
Speaker 1: to do or, or what are things that you want
42:58
Speaker 1: to do that you haven't done? Like, have you done like,
43:01
Speaker 1: have you done all the museums in LA? Like, have
43:03
Speaker 1: you thought about like joining a tennis club or doing
43:06
Speaker 1: something that's like outside of your comfort zone and in
43:09
Speaker 1: terms of like just socializing with people of different walks
43:12
Speaker 1: of life, like joining different groups of things. I think
43:16
Speaker 1: the dating apps are just a wrap on them right now, honestly.
43:19
Speaker 1: I think if you like someone, you should hit them
43:21
Speaker 1: up on Instagram or you should scroll through Instagram. I
43:23
Speaker 1: think that's a more comprehensive view of someone's life anyway,
43:27
Speaker 1: whether it's real or not, you'll find out. But I
43:29
Speaker 1: find these dating apps, the whole nature of swiping, like
43:32
Speaker 1: everyone is complaining about the same thing.
43:34
Speaker 4: Yeah.
43:35
Speaker 1: So like, what are some things that are outside of
43:37
Speaker 1: your comfort zone that you can think of that would
43:39
Speaker 1: be of interest to you?
43:41
Speaker 7: I haven't done a lot of activities out of like
43:43
Speaker 7: working my way to zero because when I moved to LA,
43:47
Speaker 7: I felt like I was sub-zero for five years. So
43:49
Speaker 7: I was like, take your credit, move to a better house,
43:52
Speaker 7: get this, get that. And now that I reached to like,
43:55
Speaker 7: you know, my surface or my ground floor, I'm like,
44:00
Speaker 7: personal life, where, when, what, and I haven't done, maybe
44:04
Speaker 7: I should take like a class because I will meet
44:08
Speaker 7: people like with the same interests probably. And hit or miss,
44:13
Speaker 7: I'm 42. That's the worst thing when you're moving in
44:16
Speaker 7: your city and you're not like 25. Right. But we'll
44:19
Speaker 7: figure out probably maybe somewhere in the ground links, something
44:24
Speaker 7: I can use on my you know, work life and
44:27
Speaker 7: at the same time, like maybe meet people.
44:28
Speaker 4: I haven't done anything like that. I haven't had the
44:30
Speaker 4: luxury of the time Yeah.
44:32
Speaker 1: I mean, I think that's like the first step. Like
44:34
Speaker 1: when you put efforts out like that, I feel like
44:36
Speaker 1: you always get rewarded. It's not just where your interests lie.
44:39
Speaker 1: It's like, what haven't you explored that might be of
44:41
Speaker 1: interest to you? Whether that's, you know, like a dance
44:45
Speaker 1: class or groundlings class, whether it's a pottery class or
44:48
Speaker 1: whether it's like a movie club where you guys all
44:51
Speaker 1: watch the same movie and discuss it in person. There's
44:53
Speaker 1: all sorts of shit going on in the city that
44:55
Speaker 1: we don't know about because everyone kind of, it's kind
44:58
Speaker 1: of like books, right? we always tend to read what
45:00
Speaker 1: we want to read about, right? We don't really tend
45:03
Speaker 1: to read, like you're not going to pick up a
45:04
Speaker 1: book about Russia if that's not of interest to you.
45:07
Speaker 1: But that's where the information lies, where you're getting new information.
45:11
Speaker 1: So I would think about just like stretching your muscles
45:13
Speaker 1: in that way and to know that you're not alone
45:15
Speaker 1: in the way that you feel about L.A. And like
45:18
Speaker 1: bringing that up to someone that you might be interested
45:21
Speaker 1: in or finding like a group of people that also
45:23
Speaker 1: feel that way is not going to be hard for
45:24
Speaker 1: you to do because a lot of people feel misplaced
45:27
Speaker 1: in L.A., It's like kind of like what you were
45:29
Speaker 1: saying about college. When you go to college, everyone's nervous
45:33
Speaker 1: about approaching another person, but like everyone's in the same boat.
45:36
Speaker 1: You're all brand new to college. So there's a lot
45:40
Speaker 1: of people that are in the same place as you.
45:42
Speaker 1: And is there anyone at work that you would hang
45:44
Speaker 1: out with?
45:45
Speaker 4: Yeah, we do hang out with some people from work.
45:47
Speaker 4: We do.
45:48
Speaker 1: Well, you don't have to reveal that you've done cocaine or.
45:51
Speaker 4: Anything with them. No, no, no. I'm just very picky
45:54
Speaker 4: as a person. I don't know.
45:55
Speaker 7: After 20 years of living in different continents, rapping with
45:59
Speaker 7: different people, I know who I am and what I like.
46:02
Speaker 7: And it's very tight end. My boundaries are very strong.
46:08
Speaker 7: But most of the times, people are willing. I'd rather
46:11
Speaker 7: stay home or work.
46:13
Speaker 5: Out or make a big joint home and read a
46:16
Speaker 5: book than join them. You know, like, I'm not being difficult.
46:20
Speaker 5: I'm just saying I won't do anything for company. I'm
46:23
Speaker 5: comfortable in my own skin.
46:24
Speaker 7: But I would like a few individuals I can appreciate
46:28
Speaker 7: and we'll spend some time together.
46:30
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. I don't think you should be desperate.
46:33
Speaker 4: I'm just saying.
46:34
Speaker 3: you're not desperate.
46:35
Speaker 1: Like, yeah, if you enjoy your own company, A, that's
46:38
Speaker 1: a huge plus because a lot of people can't even
46:40
Speaker 1: be alone. But just like get a little bit outside
46:43
Speaker 1: your comfort zone and just do a couple things that
46:46
Speaker 1: you wouldn't normally do just to see if you meet
46:48
Speaker 1: anybody of interest, you know, and anybody that is like-minded. Justine,
46:53
Speaker 1: do you have any LA ideas?
46:55
Speaker 2: No, I mean, I would say the same. I kind
46:58
Speaker 2: of feel like you're in a great position because you've
47:00
Speaker 2: got you're in a spot where you feel like you've
47:02
Speaker 2: got all your ground floor has been built. So you're
47:05
Speaker 2: not like overly overwhelmed with trying to focus on other things.
47:08
Speaker 2: You're like in a, in the perfect place to start
47:10
Speaker 2: doing these things. And you don't have like a desperation
47:15
Speaker 2: around it. So it's like kind of just like, Oh great.
47:18
Speaker 2: Like this would be in a wonderful, like you can
47:20
Speaker 2: have some ease about it. And I'd say like LA
47:23
Speaker 2: is such a choose your own adventure that like the
47:25
Speaker 2: idea of finding things. And I, I kind of agree
47:28
Speaker 2: with Chelsea. Like, an improv class would be great, but also, like,
47:32
Speaker 2: why not just pursue something that's, like, a little bit
47:35
Speaker 2: out of what you need to be doing or should
47:38
Speaker 2: be doing for your career and more of, like, oh,
47:40
Speaker 2: what do I, like, what am I interested in besides
47:43
Speaker 2: this that will make me just feel like a more
47:45
Speaker 2: well-rounded person and turn me on in a different way
47:49
Speaker 2: and light something up that hasn't been lit up before?
47:52
Speaker 2: I feel like that's when I started feeling, like, most,
47:55
Speaker 2: I guess... at home in LA and at home in
47:58
Speaker 2: myself when it wasn't all about acting and all about work,
48:01
Speaker 2: it was like, who, what am I interested in as
48:03
Speaker 2: a person? And then like the whole thing feels just
48:06
Speaker 2: like a more easy ride, like both like socially and
48:10
Speaker 2: like artistically and ambition wise, like there's just less like
48:13
Speaker 2: tightness around it all. So I feel like you can
48:15
Speaker 2: only like It just sounds like an easeful way to
48:18
Speaker 2: go about it that will just only like liven things
48:21
Speaker 2: up and you can't help but meet new people. And
48:24
Speaker 2: some of those people might be exciting and attractive to you,
48:27
Speaker 2: like as friends who then can introduce you to people
48:30
Speaker 2: or as someone that you're interested in as more than
48:33
Speaker 2: a friend.
48:34
Speaker 1: And if you like, like even if you go to
48:36
Speaker 1: like LACMA and you do one of those group tours,
48:38
Speaker 1: we were just talking about museums and like there's really
48:40
Speaker 1: some cool art museums or.
48:42
Speaker 7: I.
48:43
Speaker 4: Used to joke around there. Yeah.
48:45
Speaker 1: Like there's, they have group tours at all these museums
48:49
Speaker 1: and like, that's actually a cool way to meet people,
48:51
Speaker 1: especially when you're talking about like being cosmopolitan and having
48:54
Speaker 1: a very well-rounded background. Like if you want to like be,
48:58
Speaker 1: you know, you're looking for people to enhance your life, obviously,
49:01
Speaker 1: and that are more sophisticated, then start with more sophisticated things.
49:05
Speaker 2: Yeah. Or like a cooking class would be kind of great.
49:07
Speaker 2: Like there's like finding like a cuisine that you're really
49:09
Speaker 2: interested in learning how to cook because then you're like
49:12
Speaker 2: with people who also love food and it sounds like
49:13
Speaker 2: you like being home and smoking a J and like
49:16
Speaker 2: eating you know like having some good food like just
49:18
Speaker 2: like finding things that like oh that fits into my
49:21
Speaker 2: life it's not exactly like on the track that I
49:24
Speaker 2: like imagine you know everything has to revolve around but
49:26
Speaker 2: like that would fit really well into like what I'm
49:28
Speaker 2: excited about you know yeah.
49:31
Speaker 6: And the nice thing about going to a multi-week class
49:33
Speaker 6: or something like that is you can kind of get
49:35
Speaker 6: to know people a little bit before you're like hey
49:37
Speaker 6: do you want to hang out like let me get
49:38
Speaker 6: your number or whatever Or like if you're taking a
49:41
Speaker 6: class that everybody like, let's all go grab a drink
49:43
Speaker 6: afterward and you kind of like suss out who is
49:46
Speaker 6: kind of interesting.
49:47
Speaker 2: Yeah.
49:47
Speaker 3: I would do like three different activities.
49:49
Speaker 1: Like you don't have to do them all at the
49:51
Speaker 1: same time, but like pick a cooking class. take a
49:53
Speaker 1: dance class or if that's not up your alley, like
49:56
Speaker 1: go to the museum and go online and look for
49:59
Speaker 1: things that, you know, you like other like-minded people.
50:02
Speaker 3: And if you're looking.
50:02
Speaker 1: For a partner in that area, then be forward about that.
50:07
Speaker 1: You know, just, I think it's really good just to
50:10
Speaker 1: be honest and open instead of I know you're like saying,
50:13
Speaker 1: you know what you like and everything, but that rigidity
50:16
Speaker 1: kind of closes yourself off to a lot of options.
50:19
Speaker 3: So just try to be a little bit.
50:21
Speaker 1: More open-minded and write down like what you're going to
50:23
Speaker 1: do and your intention. Those things kind of come to
50:26
Speaker 1: fruition when you make them happen in your life and
50:28
Speaker 1: you put one foot in front of the other.
50:29
Speaker 2: I agree.
50:31
Speaker 4: I've heard a lot of great suggestions.
50:33
Speaker 7: It's nice to know that I'm not like in my
50:35
Speaker 7: head and it's like LA, it's not like the, I
50:38
Speaker 7: was saying like Manhattan was a playground.
50:41
Speaker 4: It was so easy. I loved it.
50:43
Speaker 7: I would hop like bars every night with people like
50:46
Speaker 7: from different aspects and backgrounds. But LA has its own
50:50
Speaker 7: pockets and areas and you have to find your people,
50:53
Speaker 7: your niche. And I should be dipping my feet in
50:55
Speaker 7: different pools that I haven't. But I was kind of
50:58
Speaker 7: in survival mode for.
50:59
Speaker 8: A few years.
51:00
Speaker 7: So it's a weird vibration and I didn't want to
51:02
Speaker 7: share that. And once I got out of it, I
51:04
Speaker 7: was like, again, I'm ready to surface kind of and Yeah.
51:08
Speaker 1: So you've got the whole world at your fingertips. So
51:10
Speaker 1: it's nothing but like positivity and optimism. And find some
51:14
Speaker 1: other Greek people.
51:15
Speaker 3: Hang out with some Greek people because they're going to
51:17
Speaker 3: show you what they like too. And you're probably going
51:20
Speaker 3: to have a lot in common with them.
51:21
Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe.
51:23
Speaker 3: Or maybe not. He's like, I fucking hate Greeks.
51:25
Speaker 4: No, I don't find.
51:26
Speaker 7: I just find, like, we have to have more in
51:28
Speaker 7: common than background or language.
51:31
Speaker 3: To hang out. Okay, fair enough. That's fair enough.
51:33
Speaker 4: No, I know many amazing Greeks. Don't get me wrong.
51:36
Speaker 4: I don't hate anyone. I mean, I hate everyone equally.
51:39
Speaker 7: But what I'm trying to say is, like, we need
51:41
Speaker 7: to have more things in common than our background or culture.
51:44
Speaker 7: I lived in Dubai and I had three Greek friends
51:46
Speaker 7: and all my friends were, like, English speakers.
51:47
Speaker 4: But.
51:48
Speaker 3: Go to a comedy club, too. Go out.
51:50
Speaker 4: Last night, I went to a comedy club, but I
51:53
Speaker 4: was late. I was working. I tried to watch the comedy,
51:58
Speaker 4: the horribly funny show. Oh, I was.
52:01
Speaker 3: Yeah.
52:01
Speaker 2: Did you.
52:02
Speaker 4: I was.
52:02
Speaker 3: Oh, I was there. You missed it.
52:04
Speaker 4: I'm going.
52:05
Speaker 3: Come on Thursday. I'm doing a set on Thursday.
52:07
Speaker 4: Tomorrow. You're the main liner, right? So it's like you're earlier.
52:12
Speaker 4: So I missed it. No, no.
52:14
Speaker 3: I'll go on later tomorrow. Come to the improv tomorrow. Yeah,
52:16
Speaker 3: that'll be fun. That's a fun night.
52:18
Speaker 7: Oh, great. That's my favorite nights are like movies. Stand-up nights,
52:23
Speaker 7: the rest are like hit or miss. If it's an
52:25
Speaker 7: event or a dinner with friends, yes. But stand-up and
52:27
Speaker 7: movies are my favorite nights out. Oh, okay.
52:29
Speaker 1: Well, that's an easy way to meet people. Go to
52:31
Speaker 1: the comedy store, the improv, the laugh factory. You get
52:34
Speaker 1: seated next to strangers. Like that is a perfect way
52:36
Speaker 1: to meet people.
52:38
Speaker 3: Yeah, there we go.
52:39
Speaker 7: And I wanted to say to... To wrap it up,
52:41
Speaker 7: because I don't want to take too much of your time.
52:43
Speaker 7: I'm not doing the main thing here. Chelsea, you've been
52:46
Speaker 7: an influence for real. I remember flying in. I used
52:49
Speaker 7: to live in Dubai, fly in LA and just go
52:52
Speaker 7: to watch your show. And it's one of the few
52:54
Speaker 7: people that made me want to quit my job, find
52:58
Speaker 7: a way, do a lottery visa, move here. And the
53:02
Speaker 7: way you live your life, it's respectful.
53:05
Speaker 3: Oh, thank you.
53:06
Speaker 4: Thank you. Such a pleasure. Of course.
53:09
Speaker 3: Oh, thank you.
53:10
Speaker 7: All right.
53:11
Speaker 3: Well, hopefully I'll see you tomorrow.
53:12
Speaker 4: I'll be there.
53:14
Speaker 7: Okay.
53:15
Speaker 3: Well, then I'll see you. I'll be there too.
53:17
Speaker 4: Great. Sounds amazing.
53:18
Speaker 3: Okay.
53:19
Speaker 4: Bye.
53:20
Speaker 3: Thanks for calling.
53:21
Speaker 4: Have a lovely day.
53:22
Speaker 7: Yeah.
53:22
Speaker 1: You know, like people need to be reminded of the advantages.
53:25
Speaker 1: I'm glad you brought that up, Justine. It's like you,
53:27
Speaker 1: he's settled financially, which is everyone's biggest stress when they
53:30
Speaker 1: moved to LA.
53:30
Speaker 4: Right.
53:31
Speaker 1: You know, like that is the biggest hurdle I think
53:33
Speaker 1: for anyone living today is like to be financially stable.
53:36
Speaker 1: And then you can actually have a good time and
53:39
Speaker 1: pick and choose what you want to do.
53:40
Speaker 6: And I like that you brought up like movie clubs
53:42
Speaker 6: because there are actually a ton of those here in L.A.
53:44
Speaker 2: And that's not just like going to a movie by yourself.
53:46
Speaker 3: You actually meet people that way.
53:47
Speaker 2: Yeah.
53:49
Speaker 1: I mean, there's a lot of activities that I would never–
53:52
Speaker 1: like participate in that would probably yield a lot of
53:55
Speaker 1: like interesting people, not, not for participate, but that just
53:58
Speaker 1: wouldn't occur to me. But if like I had to
54:00
Speaker 1: really hunker down in a new city and meet people,
54:03
Speaker 1: I would do those things.
54:04
Speaker 6: And I like what you said about like pick three,
54:06
Speaker 6: even if it's not at the same time. So that
54:08
Speaker 6: way you have like, all right, if this one didn't
54:09
Speaker 6: really work out, I've got some other backups.
54:11
Speaker 4: Yeah. I think that's great.
54:17
Speaker 6: Our next caller is Veronica and she says, dear Chelsea,
54:21
Speaker 6: I need help figuring out whether I have healthy boundaries
54:24
Speaker 6: or if I'm being too rigid in a relationship that
54:26
Speaker 6: keeps pulling me back in. Four years ago, I met
54:29
Speaker 6: a man I really connected with. He was funny, kind,
54:31
Speaker 6: and I saw real potential. A few months in, his
54:34
Speaker 6: insecurity started showing up as jealousy, suspicion, defensiveness, and accusations
54:38
Speaker 6: that weren't based in reality. I fell in love with him,
54:41
Speaker 6: but it ended because I knew I couldn't build something
54:43
Speaker 6: healthy like that. Over the next few years, we stayed
54:46
Speaker 6: in loose contact. He went to therapy, apologized, and eventually
54:49
Speaker 6: asked for another chance. I believe people can grow, so
54:52
Speaker 6: I gave it another try. Even after his progress, it
54:54
Speaker 6: feels like the same dynamic is still there. I'm 47,
54:58
Speaker 6: I raised two kids on my own, I'm financially independent,
55:00
Speaker 6: and I'm finally in a place where I can focus
55:02
Speaker 6: on my career and building for retirement. I have a
55:04
Speaker 6: demanding job, a dog, and my days are very full.
55:07
Speaker 6: He works from home, and there's often tension when I
55:09
Speaker 6: don't respond to texts quickly enough during work hours. I
55:12
Speaker 6: end up managing his insecurity, reassuring him, and feeling like
55:15
Speaker 6: I have to be careful not to trigger his jealousy
55:17
Speaker 6: or suspicion.
55:18
Speaker 3: Hi, Veronica.
55:19
Speaker 4: Hi, Veronica.
55:42
Speaker 8: Hello.
55:42
Speaker 4: I'm so excited.
55:43
Speaker 3: I love you, Chelsea. Hi.
55:45
Speaker 1: And this is our special guest. Justine Loop is here today.
55:47
Speaker 4: Hi.
55:48
Speaker 3: Oh my gosh.
55:49
Speaker 4: Hello.
55:50
Speaker 3: Well, it sounds like the writing's on the wall here.
55:52
Speaker 2: Yeah.
55:53
Speaker 1: I mean, giving somebody a second chance is generous, A,
55:57
Speaker 1: and I think the work there is done.
56:00
Speaker 3: I had this conversation last night.
56:02
Speaker 1: I had the same conversation three nights ago, all with
56:05
Speaker 1: different girlfriends.
56:07
Speaker 3: When men reveal.
56:08
Speaker 1: There is a honeymoon phase, obviously, which we all are
56:12
Speaker 1: aware of, where people are on their best behavior. And
56:15
Speaker 1: when that subsides, and the pain starts to chip away,
56:19
Speaker 1: you start to see the real person, and their front
56:21
Speaker 1: isn't working anymore because their real insecurities.
56:24
Speaker 3: Come to the fore. And we, as women, and as
56:27
Speaker 3: a 47-year-old woman... have no time.
56:31
Speaker 1: To be dealing with a man that is insecure and
56:34
Speaker 1: not understanding that you're at a job and that you're
56:37
Speaker 1: not going to be responsive to his texts in 30 seconds. Like,
56:40
Speaker 1: it's just, I don't have time for that. And I
56:42
Speaker 1: don't think you have time for that either. I don't
56:44
Speaker 1: think women are down with this anymore.
56:47
Speaker 3: It's just too much.
56:48
Speaker 1: We're dealing with too much other stuff happening in the
56:51
Speaker 1: world to have to make somebody feel secure.
56:54
Speaker 3: That is a grownup. I agree.
56:57
Speaker 2: I agree. I just kind of feel like it sounds
56:59
Speaker 2: so exhausting. And I've been in relationships like that. And, um,
57:05
Speaker 2: and it's just like, it's like now it's just like, it's, it's,
57:08
Speaker 2: it's not, oh, he's a bad guy or whatever. It's
57:10
Speaker 2: just like, it's just not, it's just not something that
57:13
Speaker 2: you need to be putting your brain and energy into.
57:15
Speaker 2: And it feels so much nicer to be with someone
57:18
Speaker 2: who has confidence and trusts you. And I kind of
57:21
Speaker 2: feel like that's like the main thing is like respect
57:25
Speaker 2: and trust. And in terms of like sustaining a relationship.
57:29
Speaker 2: So if you don't have that, like if there's not
57:32
Speaker 2: like this kind of innate feeling of trust, then it's like,
57:34
Speaker 2: what are we, why, why even do it? Like, what
57:37
Speaker 2: are we doing?
57:38
Speaker 6: And I don't think there's anything you can do to
57:40
Speaker 6: make someone else feel that like they either have to
57:43
Speaker 6: have it intrinsically or learn it through therapy or, you know, it.
57:47
Speaker 1: Seems like he needs, he needs more therapy and that's
57:50
Speaker 1: also not your problem either.
57:51
Speaker 3: Like he's got to go, that's an inside job.
57:53
Speaker 1: He has to go deal with it and you just
57:56
Speaker 1: need to let him know nobody wants this.
57:59
Speaker 8: Well, and there's a little bit of an update on the,
58:02
Speaker 8: on the therapy issue as well. I found out just
58:06
Speaker 8: through conversation that, Because I was kind of curious, like,
58:10
Speaker 8: are you seeing a psychologist? Like, what is their, you know, what,
58:14
Speaker 8: what's the program here? And he was actually meeting with
58:19
Speaker 8: a life coach.
58:21
Speaker 2: So not the same, but yeah, there you go. Yeah,
58:24
Speaker 2: not a therapist.
58:25
Speaker 1: So that's not going to help with his insecurities or
58:28
Speaker 1: anything like that. And yeah, so very, these are, I've
58:32
Speaker 1: had this same kind of conversation, like I said, with
58:36
Speaker 1: various different women over the past few weeks. It's a
58:38
Speaker 1: recurring theme for some reason that's happening right now. Men
58:41
Speaker 1: are feeling pretty insecure and we, I don't think that's
58:46
Speaker 1: our job to, you know, like fix them.
58:48
Speaker 3: And I don't, I think.
58:50
Speaker 1: There's just, we're just like, we have so much to offer.
58:52
Speaker 1: Like don't, it's a drag.
58:55
Speaker 6: Do you guys live together? Do you live separately? How
58:58
Speaker 6: back together are you? Are you totally back together at
59:01
Speaker 6: this point?
59:02
Speaker 4: No.
59:02
Speaker 2: No, so we're not.
59:04
Speaker 8: Um and it's you know i've dated other people like
59:06
Speaker 8: since i've met him you know we kind of had
59:09
Speaker 8: our first you know the first meeting in the first
59:11
Speaker 8: few months together and it was great and then you
59:15
Speaker 8: know i kind of i i saw the red flags
59:17
Speaker 8: kind of right away and was just like this isn't
59:20
Speaker 8: for me i don't again i don't have time.
59:22
Speaker 2: For this right agree with that.
59:24
Speaker 8: And then I think the, I think the thing that
59:27
Speaker 8: got me was him reaching back out.
59:29
Speaker 2: And apologizing and saying, you.
59:31
Speaker 8: Know, I know I've got these issues and I'm working
59:33
Speaker 8: on them in therapy and I want another chance. And
59:36
Speaker 8: so that was really, I think the thing that has,
59:39
Speaker 8: has hooked me back in, like, should I give this
59:43
Speaker 8: guy a chance? Like he's trying, but then.
59:45
Speaker 3: But you did, but you did give him a chance.
59:48
Speaker 2: You gave him that chance. It's a wrap.
59:50
Speaker 4: It's a wrap. That's it.
59:52
Speaker 3: That's like, you can't, yeah.
59:54
Speaker 1: You have to live your life and be, and, and
59:56
Speaker 1: be selfish and think about yourself because as a woman,
59:59
Speaker 1: like you have to think about yourself and your happiness
1:00:02
Speaker 1: and the energy you're expending.
1:00:03
Speaker 3: And your bandwidth.
1:00:04
Speaker 1: And it's like, you gave him a second chance and
1:00:06
Speaker 1: he didn't. And then he went to, you know, it
1:00:08
Speaker 1: turns out he went to a life coach that kind
1:00:10
Speaker 1: of says it all, you know?
1:00:12
Speaker 6: And also he kind of like made it, he tried
1:00:14
Speaker 6: to either said or made it seem like he was
1:00:16
Speaker 6: seeing an actual therapist. Like He probably knows the difference.
1:00:19
Speaker 3: It feels a little shifty.
1:00:21
Speaker 8: Yeah, no, he totally did.
1:00:22
Speaker 2: I think the other thing I would say, and this
1:00:24
Speaker 2: might be a little like woo-woo for this crowd, I
1:00:28
Speaker 2: don't actually know, but I'm just going to put it
1:00:29
Speaker 2: out there. Like what I believe is I kind of
1:00:31
Speaker 2: think that whether it's woo-woo or not, I think that
1:00:34
Speaker 2: like the energy of saying like, this is not something
1:00:37
Speaker 2: that I need to be tolerating right now. And like
1:00:40
Speaker 2: clearing that space invites in the right thing and like
1:00:46
Speaker 2: I do kind of I don't know I believe in
1:00:48
Speaker 2: like the the universe kind of like or the energy
1:00:51
Speaker 2: around making these kinds of decisions then like eliciting like
1:00:55
Speaker 2: new stuff coming in that feels like it's more aligned
1:00:57
Speaker 2: with what you're saying hey I I'm interested in this
1:01:01
Speaker 2: like this is actually what I know I'm interested in
1:01:03
Speaker 2: and I'm inviting that in and I'm actually going to
1:01:06
Speaker 2: like not make space for that kind of stuff right now.
1:01:09
Speaker 2: And I, whether it's energy or it's just like you
1:01:11
Speaker 2: knowing what you're not interested in anymore, I do feel
1:01:14
Speaker 2: like it invites in something that is less toxic and
1:01:20
Speaker 2: more rewarding and less time consuming and less energetically draining
1:01:24
Speaker 2: than what you're dealing with right now.
1:01:26
Speaker 7: You know?
1:01:26
Speaker 2: Agreed.
1:01:28
Speaker 4: Agreed. Yeah. Yeah.
1:01:30
Speaker 8: I've definitely been kind of holding space for him. So
1:01:34
Speaker 8: I haven't been open.
1:01:36
Speaker 4: Yeah. Oh, yeah.
1:01:38
Speaker 3: Okay.
1:01:39
Speaker 1: Well, I'm glad you called in and you got it
1:01:41
Speaker 1: from three women.
1:01:42
Speaker 3: So you, you know, what more.
1:01:45
Speaker 2: Do you need?
1:01:45
Speaker 3: Yeah.
1:01:47
Speaker 8: Nothing else.
1:01:49
Speaker 2: Right.
1:01:49
Speaker 3: So maybe a glass of wine.
1:01:51
Speaker 2: Yeah.
1:01:51
Speaker 3: Have one in your car. All right.
1:01:59
Speaker 2: Good luck, Veronica.
1:02:01
Speaker 3: Thanks for calling, Veronica.
1:02:02
Speaker 4: Thank you so much.
1:02:04
Speaker 3: And good luck with everything. And, you know, let us
1:02:06
Speaker 3: know how it goes. Thank you.
1:02:09
Speaker 2: It's exactly what I needed to hear.
1:02:10
Speaker 4: Thank you.
1:02:11
Speaker 2: Okay.
1:02:12
Speaker 3: Take care. Bye. Did you like giving therapy, Justine?
1:02:15
Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, I like it.
1:02:17
Speaker 5: Yeah.
1:02:17
Speaker 2: It's like so tricky because you forget that like, this
1:02:19
Speaker 2: is like actual, I mean, I know that it's a
1:02:21
Speaker 2: real circumstance that people are actually going through, but I'm like,
1:02:24
Speaker 2: as she was getting off, I was like, oh, this
1:02:25
Speaker 2: poor thing. Cause it's like hard. Like it's, I like it's,
1:02:27
Speaker 2: she needs to get, that needs to be over. But
1:02:29
Speaker 2: I'm like the reality of like walking through the like,
1:02:31
Speaker 2: and we're done. It's over.
1:02:33
Speaker 4: Yeah.
1:02:33
Speaker 3: Like break up.
1:02:34
Speaker 1: But I mean, it's really valuable to get information that
1:02:37
Speaker 1: from people or get feedback from people who have nothing
1:02:39
Speaker 1: to do with your life. I think it's much better
1:02:43
Speaker 1: than asking advice from people who are enmeshed with you
1:02:46
Speaker 1: because that's always shaded and it's less subjective.
1:02:49
Speaker 3: So I do find that.
1:02:51
Speaker 1: I find it like it's kind of freeing because then
1:02:54
Speaker 1: you can be a harsher critic too.
1:02:55
Speaker 3: You can be like, this is absolutely unacceptable.
1:02:58
Speaker 1: Well, Justine, thank you so.
1:02:59
Speaker 3: Much for today.
1:03:00
Speaker 2: Thank you for having me.
1:03:01
Speaker 3: So much fun talking with you. And season three, we're on, right?
1:03:05
Speaker 3: Of Nobody Wants This?
1:03:06
Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's really fun. I think it's funny.
1:03:08
Speaker 2: I think it's romantic. I think people will really like it. Yeah, yeah.
1:03:12
Speaker 2: I feel excited.
1:03:12
Speaker 3: Okay, great.
1:03:13
Speaker 1: Everybody go watch it. And thank you so much, Justine.
1:03:16
Speaker 1: I hope to bump into you somewhere around LA on
1:03:19
Speaker 1: the east side.
1:03:20
Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
1:03:20
Speaker 2: Come on over, girl. Come on.
1:03:22
Speaker 3: Okay. All right.
1:03:23
Speaker 2: Bye, guys. Have a good one.
1:03:24
Speaker 3: Bye-bye.
