- 0:17Speaker 1: When you're a guest to my home, you gotta come
- 0:22Speaker 1: to me empty. And I said, no, guest, you're o
- 0:28Speaker 1: presences presence enough. I already had too much stuff, So.
- 0:35Speaker 2: How do you dare to surbey me?
- 0:49Speaker 3: Listener? Before the show begins, just letting you know that
- 0:53Speaker 3: we are doing a live show at Dynasty Typewriter here

- 1:04Speaker 3: you know the drill. It's going to be a fantastic time.
- 1:07Speaker 3: All kinds of exciting things will be happening. Maybe I'll
- 1:09Speaker 3: debut a new outfit. It's hard to say. You never
- 1:11Speaker 3: know what I'm going to be wearing and what's going
- 1:14Speaker 3: to be happening. But go to dynastytypewriter dot com to
- 1:18Speaker 3: get tickets. There's also going to be a live stream,
- 1:21Speaker 3: which you can also get at Dynasty typewriter dot com.
- 1:24Speaker 3: I expect everyone to be there or to be there
- 1:28Speaker 3: on the internet, whichever you prefer. It's going to be
- 1:31Speaker 3: the time of our lives. I'll see you August twenty second,
- 1:36Speaker 3: welcome to I said, no gifts. I'm Bridger Winegger. We
- 1:41Speaker 3: are here in the studio. I made it here safely
- 1:44Speaker 3: without for the first time, without using the map. I
- 1:48Speaker 3: did it all through muscle memory. Didn't think of whatever happened.
- 1:52Speaker 3: But I got here, and I know the two freeways
- 1:55Speaker 3: and how to get onto the second freeway. Hopefully I'm
- 1:58Speaker 3: not jinxing myself now. But that was a big accomplishment
- 2:02Speaker 3: for me this morning. What else is going on? Let's see,
- 2:07Speaker 3: I was alerted this morning by my fridge that I
- 2:09Speaker 3: need to order a new water filter. Everybody wants something
- 2:13Speaker 3: from me, but I we'll see how long it takes
- 2:16Speaker 3: me to actually order it. I'll probably go six weeks
- 2:19Speaker 3: with the water not being filtered. Who's going to be
- 2:22Speaker 3: hurt by that? My body can handle a little few
- 2:25Speaker 3: extra minerals. Other than that, I think that's about it.
- 2:29Speaker 3: I have a very busy day, so let's don't get
- 2:32Speaker 3: in my way. I'm doing this. I'm getting a haircut.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Next time you see the show, i'll have a different hairstyle.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Well it'll be the same one but shorter, So look
- 2:41Speaker 3: forward to that. I want to get into the show.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Today's guest is absolutely fantastic. It's Kimia Bapornia. Kimia, welcome
- 2:49Speaker 3: to I said no gifts.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Oh thank you so much.
- 2:51Speaker 3: How are you?
- 2:52Speaker 2: I'm pretty good? You know. I was wondering about your
- 2:56Speaker 2: haircut because you're here pretty short.
- 3:01Speaker 3: This is a new thing where I've like, I think
- 3:03Speaker 3: i've my barber. Then I love him. Caesar gives me
- 3:07Speaker 3: a great haircut. I finally found someone I can count
- 3:09Speaker 3: on in Los Angeles for not too much money. Sure
- 3:13Speaker 3: close to my house. Oh yeah, but he's The haircuts
- 3:16Speaker 3: he's are giving me now are slightly shorter than I
- 3:18Speaker 3: used to get. Okay, So when it gets to what
- 3:21Speaker 3: is typically what would be a normal short haircut for me,
- 3:24Speaker 3: I think, now it's too long.
- 3:26Speaker 2: M Now, I don't follow that, but I hear you.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Good for you let me.
- 3:31Speaker 3: He does a fade starting with a point five, and
- 3:35Speaker 3: so right now I think I'm probably at a one. Okay,
- 3:38Speaker 3: And so we got to get.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Back to how I found okay cool, how.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Often should I be getting a haircut?
- 3:44Speaker 2: I don't know, boy, hair's crazy, right, You got to
- 3:47Speaker 2: like really keep it going.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Girl, You can, like you can go a couple extra weeks.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I do like a year. Oh yeah, I.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Mean I could get to that point have like shoulder
- 3:59Speaker 3: length cool. I think frightening.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Really, you're not down.
- 4:04Speaker 3: I don't think it would curl. It gets really wavy.
- 4:07Speaker 2: That's what I'm imagining for you, And I think awesome.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Honestly, I wonder. Yeah, I feel like you, like men
- 4:13Speaker 3: are allowed to kind of experiment with their hair from
- 4:15Speaker 3: age like thirteen to twenty two.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Oh that's a big window.
- 4:19Speaker 3: But after that it's like you you pick the haircut,
- 4:22Speaker 3: you're going to have poor the rest of your life.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Otherwise it's like a giant change. We're like. Women can
- 4:26Speaker 3: get like, oh I've got I'm trying a new thing.
- 4:28Speaker 3: People are like, yeah, of course you're trying a new thing.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Men when they're trying a new thing, I don't know,
- 4:33Speaker 3: it's like a little bit shakier. Maybe it's because of
- 4:36Speaker 3: the shortness of it. It's hard to like you.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Really have to go through a lot of time to
- 4:42Speaker 2: get it long, right, Yeah, and it looks very much different.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Oh yeah, and everybody has the stage of between short
- 4:49Speaker 3: and long.
- 4:50Speaker 2: That's the bad one.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Yeah, they just have to lock themselves.
- 4:52Speaker 2: For fabio hair stage.
- 4:55Speaker 3: I wouldn't mind, just like disappearing for six months and
- 4:57Speaker 3: reappearing with a new hair stuff.
- 4:59Speaker 2: That's kind of fun.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Maybe that's what I do. Yeah, people are like, oh,
- 5:02Speaker 3: so that's what you were working on. Yeah, just changing
- 5:04Speaker 3: your look.
- 5:05Speaker 2: That's that's huge these days.
- 5:08Speaker 3: You're getting your haircut twice a year. But the thing
- 5:10Speaker 3: is a lot. That's the thing. That's a big secret.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Men pay think they're paying less once a month, but
- 5:17Speaker 3: evens out. Yeah, I'm paying I guess I could say this.
- 5:21Speaker 3: I think it's as cheap at that you can get
- 5:23Speaker 3: in Los Angeles without really being cheap. Forty five dollars,
- 5:26Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Yeah that's great. I pay like two hundred something my
- 5:30Speaker 2: two times. I go. Yeah.
- 5:32Speaker 3: But see now we're thinking about me doing it twelve
- 5:34Speaker 3: times a year. Okay, I'm paying about five hundred dollars
- 5:38Speaker 3: a year in haircuts. We're even, we're even. It all
- 5:41Speaker 3: evens out, it all comes out in the wash.
- 5:43Speaker 2: And that's in quality.
- 5:46Speaker 3: That's true.
- 5:46Speaker 2: That's quality. We're not talking about that.
- 5:48Speaker 3: But we're not talking about Well, I'm an electric car,
- 5:51Speaker 3: but I still have to pay for the electricity, the gas, money.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Of it all. Oh yeah, use paying more, but my
- 5:58Speaker 2: haircuts farther.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Oh interest, Yeah, see I'm on.
- 6:01Speaker 2: The east side and I'm driving down to Beverly Hills.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Okay, so again, men and women are even. No one
- 6:05Speaker 3: has anything to complain about. Everything is totally equal in and.
- 6:09Speaker 2: That's what I came here to speak on.
- 6:12Speaker 3: Did you have you been with your hair person for
- 6:14Speaker 3: a long time?
- 6:15Speaker 2: I have, actually our our mutual friend Patrick also goes
- 6:20Speaker 2: to this hair person and any curly hair person I
- 6:22Speaker 2: run into. That's like I'm looking for someone. I go,
- 6:24Speaker 2: you go find Maria she.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Rocks carea Rea. Maybe I should see I have a
- 6:29Speaker 3: weird thing where my hair is not straight or curly,
- 6:32Speaker 3: and when wet it's straighter. And so like barbers, I
- 6:35Speaker 3: think frequently overestimate how short they should cut my hair
- 6:38Speaker 3: because when it curls, it gets shorter.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Oh okay, yeah, that's that's how it goes.
- 6:45Speaker 3: So sometimes if they're not aware, they'll go too short,
- 6:47Speaker 3: and then when it dries out, when it's completely dry,
- 6:50Speaker 3: now it's a disaster. But you can't how do you
- 6:54Speaker 3: communicate that to them?
- 6:56Speaker 2: You know, you should know hair is their job.
- 6:57Speaker 3: Hair is their They should kind of know that that, yes,
- 7:00Speaker 3: Like how to get to that point?
- 7:02Speaker 2: Yeah, you just got less because when it dries, it
- 7:05Speaker 2: shrinks up.
- 7:06Speaker 3: And I think I've gotten to that place with my guy,
- 7:09Speaker 3: but finding him was a huge challenge. Oh yeah, I
- 7:12Speaker 3: bet yes. And you know the challenge. You're going to
- 7:14Speaker 3: a place that cut your hair bad. Yeah, and then
- 7:17Speaker 3: you go to another place to cut your hairbad, and
- 7:18Speaker 3: then you go to a place where the guy has
- 7:19Speaker 3: political opinions where you're not entirely sure it stands. I mean,
- 7:25Speaker 3: it's a whole experience that stuff. My guy doesn't really.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Talk to me, okay, and we like that.
- 7:31Speaker 3: I well, see, I do like that, but my boyfriend
- 7:33Speaker 3: has started going to him, and I found out that
- 7:35Speaker 3: he talks to my boyfriend. So I'm like, uh, is
- 7:37Speaker 3: my personally so off putting? What about me is putting off?
- 7:43Speaker 3: Don't talk? Well, I mean I'm getting what I want,
- 7:46Speaker 3: you prefer, but now of course i want something.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Else because you heard that.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Mister popular. Okay, yeah, but of course if he started
- 7:55Speaker 3: talking to me, I'm.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Sure I'd be like, please listen, let's not know.
- 8:00Speaker 3: So there's no winning for this poor barber.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know. Just talk like I just talk
- 8:06Speaker 2: like twice maybe in.
- 8:07Speaker 3: This what are you talking about during a haircut.
- 8:09Speaker 1: You know.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Sometimes she'll initiate and be like, so, what's going on you?
- 8:14Speaker 3: Sure?
- 8:14Speaker 2: Yeah, very open, and then I'll kind of just tell
- 8:17Speaker 2: her two things I'm up to, right, and she doesn't respond.
- 8:22Speaker 3: She doesn't divulge anything.
- 8:23Speaker 2: No. I mean, then I'll ask her like going on
- 8:25Speaker 2: any vacation soon, and she'll tell me in one sentence
- 8:31Speaker 2: she's not very chatty.
- 8:33Speaker 3: I think that's kind of the place you need to be.
- 8:35Speaker 3: I want them focusing on my hair.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know.
- 8:38Speaker 3: My personal life is extremely boring. I don't need to
- 8:41Speaker 3: be dull, you know, putting them to sleep while they're snipping, and.
- 8:44Speaker 2: I don't not boring, by the way.
- 8:46Speaker 3: Well apparently Caesar thinks so.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Well, no, Caesar's just feeling that you don't want to chat.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe go in there today, chat it up, ruin
- 8:55Speaker 3: the whole thing.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, be so chatty today.
- 8:59Speaker 3: My other is when you get to an area of
- 9:02Speaker 3: taste where it's like, oh, what TV are you watching?
- 9:04Speaker 3: What movies? And then they start telling you things that
- 9:07Speaker 3: and then you have to agree with whatever they're saying.
- 9:10Speaker 2: You don't have to.
- 9:11Speaker 3: I feel like I've got If there's anyone in the
- 9:13Speaker 3: world that I need to just be on a level.
- 9:15Speaker 3: I don't want to be debating. It's the person that's fair.
- 9:20Speaker 3: That's fair because when I I unfortunately am nothing makes
- 9:26Speaker 3: me happy in the world of entertainment, and so I
- 9:29Speaker 3: don't know how to have a normal conversation with a
- 9:31Speaker 3: person without stepping on toes sure, without being like, well
- 9:35Speaker 3: you have been like.
- 9:35Speaker 2: That sucks, and that sucks. Okay, but it's kind of
- 9:38Speaker 2: nice because like, to be fair, they said they liked
- 9:41Speaker 2: anything you would have said it sucks, so true, that's
- 9:43Speaker 2: kind of comforting.
- 9:44Speaker 3: This is what I end up saying, is I just
- 9:46Speaker 3: lie about especially I say I've never seen anything. Oh
- 9:49Speaker 3: I haven't seen that.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Oh that's good, I haven't seen that covers your basis.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll have to see that. I'll have to see that.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Oh I do that a lot. I go, oh, I'll
- 9:57Speaker 2: check that out, never never gonna.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Or I've already checked it out and think it's despicable,
- 10:02Speaker 3: and just I'm like, well, I can't break.
- 10:05Speaker 2: It to you that yeah you're wrong, Yeah.
- 10:08Speaker 3: Well so you've I'm hoping that I get to I'm
- 10:10Speaker 3: hoping this is the barber for the rest of my life.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Yeah, so we'll keep them silent, kill them tat today.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Sorry I pushed you that way, you know, don't don't
- 10:18Speaker 2: mess up a good thing.
- 10:19Speaker 3: But then there's always this temptation for me of do
- 10:22Speaker 3: I want to go to just once, go to a
- 10:25Speaker 3: really expensive place and have them be like you've been
- 10:27Speaker 3: doing it wrong all along.
- 10:29Speaker 2: No, they can't. I don't think. Click. Maybe I'm just
- 10:31Speaker 2: being dumb, but I don't think with short hair, boy hair,
- 10:33Speaker 2: there can be much that you've biffed.
- 10:36Speaker 3: You know, Okay, they can't be like this is what
- 10:38Speaker 3: you should be doing.
- 10:38Speaker 2: I don't know. Your hair looks great like I think
- 10:41Speaker 2: you're do.
- 10:41Speaker 3: You know I'm not fishing for complimentation.
- 10:43Speaker 2: You got them and it worked, it's looking good. Don't
- 10:48Speaker 2: cut it? Actually canceled today?
- 10:50Speaker 3: What do you do? They have a policy, they've got
- 10:52Speaker 3: a twelve hour policy.
- 10:54Speaker 2: You're twenty dollars.
- 10:57Speaker 3: That would ruin the weekend.
- 10:58Speaker 2: I'll get your twenty dollars for you to care. So
- 11:01Speaker 2: make it long.
- 11:02Speaker 3: I've got headphones on right now. I take them off,
- 11:04Speaker 3: my hair could be a disaster. Then you've committed twenty dollars.
- 11:06Speaker 2: That's fine. I'll take that gamble. Twenty bucks. I'm actually
- 11:09Speaker 2: hoping you take the headphones off and like luscious.
- 11:11Speaker 3: Oh my god, it just rolls to my ankles. Oh,
- 11:14Speaker 3: that would be my dream.
- 11:16Speaker 2: That would rock.
- 11:16Speaker 3: I wish I could get to that length of hair
- 11:18Speaker 3: in a month, just to dry it out. Yeah, I
- 11:21Speaker 3: guess I could buy a wig. But that would be
- 11:23Speaker 3: an expensive wig.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Yeah, that's too much.
- 11:25Speaker 3: Do they make wigs that long?
- 11:27Speaker 2: Yeah, of course they make wigs.
- 11:28Speaker 3: They make all length wigs.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Yeah. Man, that you can get a kind of wig
- 11:32Speaker 2: you like.
- 11:32Speaker 3: That would be as much as a car the cost Yeah, probably,
- 11:36Speaker 3: you think. Yeah, I mean if you were getting a
- 11:38Speaker 3: good one, a good one, that would I imagine that
- 11:41Speaker 3: would probably be fifteen thousand dollars.
- 11:43Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 11:44Speaker 3: And I don't know anything about wig costs.
- 11:47Speaker 2: You're just kind of saying, and I'm like, yeah, that
- 11:50Speaker 2: sounds right.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Well, if we think about we go to a let's say,
- 11:52Speaker 3: a spirit Halloween a party city to buy a wig,
- 11:55Speaker 3: that's where you're going. But like one of those is probably.
- 11:57Speaker 2: One hundred dollars for a long wig there.
- 11:59Speaker 3: Yeah, they're one hundred dollars because a short one is
- 12:02Speaker 3: probably fifteen to thirty. Sure, So then if we're talking
- 12:05Speaker 3: about real human hair. Then ankle length, that has to
- 12:09Speaker 3: be fifteen thousand.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Yeah, what if it's like horsetail hair?
- 12:13Speaker 3: Oh? Is that more or less expensive than human hair?
- 12:15Speaker 3: Gotta be less, right, No, it's a novelty.
- 12:19Speaker 2: No no, no, it's god. Yeah, but it's got to
- 12:20Speaker 2: be less because it'll look not like human hair.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Yeah, it'll look unbelievably gorgeous. It'll look so conditioned.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Not horse head hair, horsetail hair.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Of course, the.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Main, No, the back, mane, the butt, main.
- 12:36Speaker 3: That's the technical term. But I can tell you're a cowgirl.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Yeah. Actually horse is my least favorite animal.
- 12:42Speaker 3: So is that true?
- 12:43Speaker 2: Yeah? Why, I don't know. I think it's like wrapped
- 12:45Speaker 2: up in horse girl stuff. Oh where I was like
- 12:48Speaker 2: growing up and that was like the thing to be
- 12:50Speaker 2: if you were like cool and in the binary you
- 12:54Speaker 2: were like horse girl cool. And I was sitting there
- 12:57Speaker 2: in my tech deck T shirt.
- 12:58Speaker 3: And then what was your animal?
- 13:00Speaker 1: Uh?
- 13:01Speaker 2: What was my Oh? I like giraffes. Okay, monkeys, those
- 13:05Speaker 2: were my childhood favorite.
- 13:07Speaker 3: Those are good animals, fun to draw, Yeah, and to
- 13:11Speaker 3: see it certainly more fun to see at the zoo
- 13:13Speaker 3: than a horse.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:14Speaker 3: If you see a horse at the zoo. You're like,
- 13:16Speaker 3: I have been ripped off. I could see this a
- 13:18Speaker 3: meally in other places. I might be able to see
- 13:20Speaker 3: it on the street. Yeah, don't put that in a zoo.
- 13:23Speaker 2: You're so right, and I don't think that they do.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Well.
- 13:26Speaker 3: If I do, I'm gonna that zoo will be hearing
- 13:28Speaker 3: from me. You help review online campaign change dot org.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Petition get the horses out of the Zoo No close.
- 13:36Speaker 3: The zoo down. Yes, I mean horses are not my favorite,
- 13:42Speaker 3: but there those and dogs, to me are kind of like, well,
- 13:45Speaker 3: they've just been with human beings for such a long time. Sure,
- 13:47Speaker 3: they're not even you know, they're almost a different category.
- 13:50Speaker 2: It's not really an animal.
- 13:51Speaker 3: They're a friend. They're a companion or a partner team
- 13:55Speaker 3: m Yes, whereas a monkey or a giraffe, they've had
- 13:59Speaker 3: a longer way to go to being. You know, we
- 14:00Speaker 3: can count on them.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think he can count on those guys.
- 14:04Speaker 3: I mean, especially monkeys. I think actually we have to
- 14:07Speaker 3: be aware that they could eventually turn on us. Yes,
- 14:10Speaker 3: Planet of the Apes, Planet of the Apes or chimp crazy?
- 14:13Speaker 2: Oh I didn't see either of those.
- 14:15Speaker 3: Okay, which one should you? See first.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Yeah, you tell me.
- 14:18Speaker 3: I think if you see Chimp Crazy first, the fear
- 14:21Speaker 3: of Planet of the Apes will become even more horror
- 14:24Speaker 3: because you'll say, you'll see, oh, this is what they're
- 14:26Speaker 3: capable of. Oh, okay, the chimp you know, the apes
- 14:29Speaker 3: might rip every person's face off.
- 14:32Speaker 2: And uh, that's what happens in that.
- 14:34Speaker 3: That's part of us. It's just a small part of
- 14:36Speaker 3: Chimp Crazy.
- 14:37Speaker 2: That's just a small part. That's not the whole.
- 14:39Speaker 3: That's a small part of the freaking.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Way, that's what. That's a small part.
- 14:43Speaker 3: I mean, that's how familiar are you with that show?
- 14:49Speaker 2: People were like talking about it being crazy. I know
- 14:51Speaker 2: about the face ripping off thing. I thought that was
- 14:54Speaker 2: all of it. Though, that's no small.
- 14:55Speaker 3: Lady's like friend or something. I mean, that's the only
- 14:59Speaker 3: I think that's kind of well, there might be other
- 15:01Speaker 3: faces or people who get hurt. Yeah, but that's probably
- 15:04Speaker 3: the most brutal of all of them. Oh man, it's
- 15:07Speaker 3: a tough I don't I don't know if it's good
- 15:11Speaker 3: that we're watching this thing.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Or probably not, but I got to see it, and
- 15:15Speaker 2: I'm not just saying that, like how I tell Maria,
- 15:16Speaker 2: I'm gonna watch this. Yeah, I know this one.
- 15:19Speaker 3: I'm gonna you'll get in there, and it's impossible not
- 15:21Speaker 3: to finish it. It's it's like no moment of it
- 15:24Speaker 3: is normal, okay, And that lady is I won't give anything.
- 15:28Speaker 2: We don't tell me anything.
- 15:29Speaker 3: But there's some good things that happen in some horrible
- 15:32Speaker 3: things that happen, and just a woman who needed to
- 15:38Speaker 3: find another path in life. A lot of people who
- 15:41Speaker 3: needed to find another path in life, and unfortunately they
- 15:43Speaker 3: found a legal exotic animal.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Shoot, yeah, that's tough.
- 15:51Speaker 3: Do you have a pet?
- 15:52Speaker 2: I do I have a dog? Oh? He's got one
- 15:54Speaker 2: eye and he said mix. So he's a nightmare. It's
- 15:58Speaker 2: really it's really bad because she already awful anxious dogs.
- 16:01Speaker 3: They are so anxious.
- 16:03Speaker 2: This one has one eye. Somebody wronged him and we
- 16:05Speaker 2: don't even know who, what happened to him, We don't
- 16:06Speaker 2: know how he lost his eyes. So he's just very
- 16:08Speaker 2: like screams at all strangers, stranger, danger, all over the place.
- 16:12Speaker 3: How old was he when you got him?
- 16:13Speaker 2: He was two and that's also when he lost his eyes,
- 16:16Speaker 2: So he's like spent two years of life with two hours.
- 16:19Speaker 3: So he knows the difference. He knows, he knows that
- 16:22Speaker 3: he is. Something happened, something happened to him, all the
- 16:24Speaker 3: poor little things.
- 16:26Speaker 2: His name is chef.
- 16:27Speaker 3: Oh that's a good, sweet little And how old does
- 16:29Speaker 3: he know?
- 16:30Speaker 2: He's? Oh my god. Okay, so we got him in
- 16:32Speaker 2: the end of twenty nineteen and he was two. Then okay,
- 16:35Speaker 2: so math it up? Yeah, off masks you on this
- 16:40Speaker 2: podcast and you did you did our haircut math, you
- 16:43Speaker 2: did my dog age math.
- 16:44Speaker 3: I'm gunning for the world of style and math, and
- 16:48Speaker 3: I think I've nailed it so far. In this episode.
- 16:50Speaker 2: It's working.
- 16:51Speaker 3: Haircutters reach out, Mathematicians reach out. I haven't done a
- 16:55Speaker 3: times table in a long time. Times table.
- 16:58Speaker 2: I'm a big math kid, are you actually? I love math.
- 17:01Speaker 2: I'm letting you do the math here today.
- 17:03Speaker 3: You could have shown math. How were you into like
- 17:06Speaker 3: the mathletes and all of this.
- 17:08Speaker 2: We didn't have math.
- 17:09Speaker 3: That feels more like a TV thing, right.
- 17:12Speaker 2: But I was in the math robotics academy at my
- 17:15Speaker 2: middle school.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Yeah, we programmed Lego robots.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Wow, that's incredible.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Yeah, we made them do little missions and what were
- 17:22Speaker 2: they doing? And so okay, so Lego like the company
- 17:27Speaker 2: puts on this robotics competition for middle school high schoolers.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Every year has a different theme. One of the years,
- 17:35Speaker 2: I remember, the theme was like Mars Exploration or something,
- 17:39Speaker 2: and every school or every classroom that's participating gets the
- 17:42Speaker 2: same like big map that your tiny lego robot has
- 17:46Speaker 2: to navigate and do missions on. And so it's just
- 17:50Speaker 2: about building and programming the most efficient robot. And then
- 17:53Speaker 2: you go to competitions and you like run the wow
- 17:57Speaker 2: like programs that you build in. So I was doing
- 18:02Speaker 2: the creative part.
- 18:04Speaker 3: Okay, I was doing.
- 18:05Speaker 2: The creative part, even though I was good at maths.
- 18:08Speaker 2: I was I was like, okay, let somebody else do
- 18:10Speaker 2: the programming. But there was a second part where it
- 18:12Speaker 2: was like, uh, you also are solving some sort of
- 18:17Speaker 2: social issue with.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Robotics through it going on a map.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Yeah, well that's just the robot part. Then there's like
- 18:24Speaker 2: a because the theme was Mars, I forget like what
- 18:26Speaker 2: we were trying to better with robots in space travel.
- 18:30Speaker 3: So whatever the issue was did not mean anything.
- 18:33Speaker 2: No, I did not pierce my brain. I did write
- 18:35Speaker 2: a sketch where we were like do we were like
- 18:37Speaker 2: news anchors on Mars, Like Mars Weather, Mars Sports like
- 18:44Speaker 2: just like Mars News. So that's what I did for
- 18:46Speaker 2: like a competition, and we won second place because we
- 18:49Speaker 2: were so charming, but truly did not give any information
- 18:53Speaker 2: I was supposed to be sent. So it was very
- 18:55Speaker 2: much a personality, very the robots. Yeah, yeah, I thought
- 19:00Speaker 2: we should get first, but I mean we certainly didn't
- 19:02Speaker 2: do the assignment. We were just goofing with the sketch.
- 19:04Speaker 3: I wrote, what was the last time, What was the
- 19:06Speaker 3: last time you did something robotic?
- 19:08Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, middle school, you gave it up. I
- 19:12Speaker 2: mean then I joined theater.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Oh god, the arts have ruined you.
- 19:16Speaker 2: I dare I know. I could have cured something.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Take your pick. There's so many things secure.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Yeah, this is actually what my mom said when I
- 19:24Speaker 2: was like, I'm going to be an actress. She's like,
- 19:25Speaker 2: you're too smart, though.
- 19:27Speaker 3: Do you have siblings?
- 19:28Speaker 2: That's just me?
- 19:29Speaker 3: Oh so they can't even carry on the importance.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Also, I think she was wrong. I'm not that smart
- 19:35Speaker 2: because I can work out some numbers. I'm pretty stupid.
- 19:38Speaker 3: You could have probably been like mid level at a company.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Yeah, and that sounds sad, kind of that.
- 19:43Speaker 3: Way, completely unsatisfying life where you thought, oh I could
- 19:46Speaker 3: have done I could have been one of those people
- 19:47Speaker 3: on TV.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Yeah, but I'm sitting at a desk doing someone's taxes
- 19:51Speaker 2: or something.
- 19:52Speaker 3: Right, Well, do you think if somebody like put these
- 19:55Speaker 3: pieces in front of you now, you'd be able to
- 19:57Speaker 3: program something?
- 19:58Speaker 2: No? Nothing, definitely not.
- 20:00Speaker 3: I mean women in stem fuck off shoot.
- 20:03Speaker 2: I'm a bad example. Well, it's just because the tech
- 20:06Speaker 2: has changed and I haven't looked at it since middle school.
- 20:08Speaker 2: I'm not gonna know about the flow charts and the
- 20:10Speaker 2: way Lego is programming the r c X and all
- 20:12Speaker 2: this stuff.
- 20:13Speaker 3: Now, wow, it's very impressive. That's very impressive. This is
- 20:18Speaker 3: the sort of situation where you do end up shipwrecked
- 20:20Speaker 3: and you're still the most qualified person on the island,
- 20:22Speaker 3: and you're like, well, I'm using the middle school Lego things.
- 20:27Speaker 3: There's probably enough things, not enough things on the island
- 20:29Speaker 3: to program.
- 20:29Speaker 2: So you can say, nah, I can do puzzles, like
- 20:31Speaker 2: I could help logic us off the ieor.
- 20:34Speaker 3: Do you find like a tomb hidden behind puzzles?
- 20:37Speaker 2: If it was Survivor, we'd be okay, do you think.
- 20:40Speaker 3: You would do Survivor? I can't, I can't, I don't
- 20:43Speaker 3: think even banned from CBS.
- 20:45Speaker 2: I sort of. I always say my wife won't let me.
- 20:48Speaker 2: That's and then she goes, I didn't say anything, but
- 20:54Speaker 2: I go, no, she wouldn't let me. She wouldn't let me.
- 20:56Speaker 3: What is it about survivor that scares you?
- 20:59Speaker 2: I don't know. Oh, I guess the bugs.
- 21:03Speaker 3: That to me, the bugs, the general like fear of sunburn.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Yeah, you would burn.
- 21:09Speaker 3: I would die. Although I don't want to do it,
- 21:12Speaker 3: but I looked into it just in case I accidentally
- 21:14Speaker 3: did it, I guess. And they do have to supply something.
- 21:16Speaker 2: They give you.
- 21:17Speaker 3: You don't see a lot of that on screen. I
- 21:19Speaker 3: guess you go out in the woods and put on
- 21:21Speaker 3: your sunscreen before you get on camera. Yeah, otherwise I
- 21:24Speaker 3: would be a disaster. I would be a hospital case,
- 21:26Speaker 3: you know, like they would have to fly me off
- 21:28Speaker 3: the island. Yeah, they won't.
- 21:30Speaker 2: I also don't want to poop in the ocean.
- 21:33Speaker 3: Do they? Is that really part of it? They don't
- 21:35Speaker 3: have toilets for you.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Yeah, they poop in the ocean.
- 21:38Speaker 3: That feels irresponsible on their part. Yeah, it feels like
- 21:40Speaker 3: we're putting I mean, I guess other animals poop in
- 21:43Speaker 3: the ocean. Yeah, but we don't need human sewage flowing
- 21:46Speaker 3: through the ocean.
- 21:47Speaker 2: Because of there's like a section of the island that's
- 21:49Speaker 2: like where they poop.
- 21:50Speaker 3: Oh interesting, net it off.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Where I looked at. Yeah, somebody can fact check.
- 21:56Speaker 3: Oh that's terrible. So it's everyone has to kind of
- 21:58Speaker 3: walk into a big toilet kind of.
- 22:01Speaker 2: It sort of like flows away.
- 22:04Speaker 3: But also flows, I mean as the ocean does. Yeah,
- 22:07Speaker 3: that's unpleasant, terrible.
- 22:10Speaker 2: That's all I can think of when they do the
- 22:12Speaker 2: reward challenges, or like when they go on reward and
- 22:15Speaker 2: they get to eat like Applebee's and then I'm like, shoot,
- 22:17Speaker 2: now they all have to go poop in the ocean.
- 22:20Speaker 2: I can't enjoy it.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Apple Is Applebee still sponsoring Survivor?
- 22:24Speaker 2: I think so.
- 22:25Speaker 3: I feel like maybe out Back Steakhouse is probably occasionally
- 22:28Speaker 3: getting in there. Who else? Those are probably the two remaining.
- 22:31Speaker 3: I don't think tgif TGF Fridays exists.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Anymore, just generally they're gone.
- 22:38Speaker 3: I think did the whole company go under?
- 22:40Speaker 2: I hope not. I had a surprise birthday there once.
- 22:43Speaker 3: Yes, on the LEASTGI Friday still exist, please hell.
- 22:48Speaker 2: I think it does. One second, let me just confirm Okay, I'm.
- 22:51Speaker 3: Going to get confirmation. We need to get confirmation on Fridays.
- 22:54Speaker 2: I need all the places I've had birthdays to still exist.
- 22:56Speaker 2: Oh yeah, they're they're open.
- 22:57Speaker 3: They're still open. My apologies to Fridays. Yea. I feel
- 23:01Speaker 3: like maybe the ones in the greater LA area are gone.
- 23:04Speaker 3: So are the chilis. You know you can't get to
- 23:06Speaker 3: a Chili's within fifty miles of LA. I'm pretty sure
- 23:10Speaker 3: it's hard to get to a Chili's here. I would
- 23:13Speaker 3: go to a Chili's if there was one in Silver.
- 23:15Speaker 2: Like, Yeah, definitely that's the market. Yeah, everyone in Silver
- 23:18Speaker 2: Like wants to head to a Chili's.
- 23:21Speaker 3: The Echo Park chilis. I think that it would actually
- 23:24Speaker 3: do Bonker's business. I think the Like people would be like,
- 23:28Speaker 3: I can't believe this is ironic, and then they'd say, oh,
- 23:32Speaker 3: Chili's is great.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Yeah, they would get it on the bottomless chips.
- 23:36Speaker 3: I think all the chilies, even in my hometown are closed.
- 23:39Speaker 3: What I think they turned the one that was there
- 23:42Speaker 3: into like.
- 23:42Speaker 2: A spirit Halloween.
- 23:46Speaker 3: Spirit Halloween to go. Oh yeah, it's like a furniture
- 23:50Speaker 3: store or something. Now, so that's a shame. Where else
- 23:53Speaker 3: have you had birthdays.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Let's see Trucky Cheese, which I guess still around.
- 23:58Speaker 3: Yeah, there's still I mean, the fact that they were
- 24:00Speaker 3: hanging in there continues to be absolutely baffling, especially considering
- 24:04Speaker 3: the fact that they got rid of the robots.
- 24:06Speaker 2: I can't believe it.
- 24:07Speaker 3: Why do they exist? Do they have holograms?
- 24:10Speaker 2: They probably did projections or something.
- 24:12Speaker 3: Right, then it's just bad pizza and dirty carpeting.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Yeah, well there's games.
- 24:20Speaker 3: There's games.
- 24:21Speaker 2: Games they used. I used to go to Chucky Cheese
- 24:23Speaker 2: because they had this thing where if you got straight
- 24:24Speaker 2: a's that you get free tokens. Oh every report card
- 24:28Speaker 2: to try.
- 24:29Speaker 3: Of course, how many tokens would they give you?
- 24:31Speaker 2: I don't remember.
- 24:33Speaker 3: That is such a trick to I mean, parents hate that.
- 24:35Speaker 3: They're like, and I know this is gonna end up costing.
- 24:39Speaker 2: Thought about that.
- 24:40Speaker 3: That's predatory, predatory practice. They are going to elementary schools,
- 24:46Speaker 3: tricking children into dragging their parents to their horrible rest.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Well then I got good grades, that's true, but I
- 24:52Speaker 2: was gonna anyways, you know.
- 24:54Speaker 3: You're headed towards robotics me. Yeah, but maybe not. Maybe
- 24:58Speaker 3: you were saved by chuck E Cheese.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Maybe that's what got education, cheese that and Pizza Hut
- 25:03Speaker 2: and they're reading Challenge.
- 25:05Speaker 3: Oh yeah, oh yeah, book it, yes, book book it.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Of course I did have book It and my mom.
- 25:13Speaker 3: I guess I take after my mom because she wouldn't
- 25:14Speaker 3: buy anything out. You know, we would go and get
- 25:16Speaker 3: the free little pizza. That's all we got out of
- 25:18Speaker 3: the restaurant and left.
- 25:20Speaker 2: That's good.
- 25:20Speaker 3: Took advantage of Pizza Hut. They weren't getting any more
- 25:23Speaker 3: of the family money.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Yeah, family, the family money, the family fortune.
- 25:28Speaker 3: Of course.
- 25:29Speaker 2: You know you can. You can get Costco if you
- 25:32Speaker 2: just go in there and then buy a chicken and
- 25:34Speaker 2: walk out Rochestere chicken. They like lose money on that,
- 25:38Speaker 2: banking on you going in and get you of shit Costco.
- 25:41Speaker 3: I mean, I shouldn't say publicly that I'm doing this
- 25:43Speaker 3: because they'll kick me out of the club, let's hear it.
- 25:45Speaker 3: But you know, I am Costco's worst nightmare. I go
- 25:49Speaker 3: in and get the chicken and maybe two other items,
- 25:52Speaker 3: sometimes just the chicken.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Which is then you're doing it. The chicken.
- 25:57Speaker 3: It's five dollars. That doesn't make any at this point,
- 26:01Speaker 3: but for me it makes sense. Wallet sense, yes, make sense.
- 26:05Speaker 2: Okay, keep that family money. That makes sense. Yeah, to
- 26:08Speaker 2: save you have to.
- 26:11Speaker 3: But now I'm probably gonna be barred from Costco. I
- 26:14Speaker 3: don't know. No, Okay, let me have the chicken. Yeah,
- 26:18Speaker 3: you know you they want me to. They're they're putting
- 26:21Speaker 3: it there.
- 26:22Speaker 2: Yeah, you pay annual or something.
- 26:24Speaker 3: I fight with all the other ladies in line. We
- 26:26Speaker 3: all descend on the chickens. It's like me and seven
- 26:30Speaker 3: grandmothers are all.
- 26:31Speaker 2: There's enough? Are you really just like elbowing grabs out
- 26:34Speaker 2: the way.
- 26:34Speaker 3: You go there? And there's like I think there are
- 26:36Speaker 3: people who really know about the chickens. They like they
- 26:38Speaker 3: know what time to be there and like which ones
- 26:40Speaker 3: are best, and so if you get there when they're
- 26:43Speaker 3: kind of crowding around, yeah, if you're like you'll we'll
- 26:46Speaker 3: see a chicken, you're like, why, we'll just take that one.
- 26:48Speaker 3: But then you're like, oh did I take the wrong chicken?
- 26:51Speaker 2: Oh my god, you're really thinking so hard. I guess
- 26:53Speaker 2: you're paying Emotionally, you're getting a five dollars. You're sitting
- 26:57Speaker 2: there like, why do they know more than me? Why
- 27:01Speaker 2: should I know more about this?
- 27:03Speaker 3: Costco has absolutely devastated me emotionally. Dang, But the mental
- 27:08Speaker 3: toll is worth it. I have chicken for a week
- 27:10Speaker 3: five bucks.
- 27:11Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 27:12Speaker 3: We could ask for more. Are you a costco shopper?
- 27:15Speaker 2: I go not so often, but we are members. Our
- 27:20Speaker 2: household goes for you know, paper towels, pilet paper, spin drift.
- 27:24Speaker 3: Best dealin oh, I should get spin drift.
- 27:26Speaker 2: There you only get grapefruit, lime and lemon. But like
- 27:32Speaker 2: you're crazy.
- 27:33Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, no crazy, What are you talking
- 27:36Speaker 3: about it?
- 27:36Speaker 2: It's juicy, too much juice in that.
- 27:41Speaker 3: Oh. I love the grapefruit, okay, for so many reasons.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Wow, you should come to our house. We just drink
- 27:48Speaker 2: the other two and have all the grapefruit.
- 27:49Speaker 3: I'll stop by and skim off the top. I'll take
- 27:52Speaker 3: all the grapefruits from you. The grapefruit is the one
- 27:54Speaker 3: that you could have with breakfast. I would say if.
- 27:57Speaker 2: People used to have half a grapefruit with breakfast, be
- 28:00Speaker 2: having a half.
- 28:00Speaker 3: A grapefruit every morning. The work that you would have
- 28:03Speaker 3: to put in.
- 28:03Speaker 2: To do that.
- 28:04Speaker 3: Yeah, you have to have a butler to have a
- 28:07Speaker 3: half a grapefruit every morning. Who else has the time? Yeah,
- 28:12Speaker 3: or the energy to be like the cutting all of
- 28:15Speaker 3: that nonsense. And I love a gpruit. Yeah, but they
- 28:19Speaker 3: interact with my medication, with my well butrin, so I
- 28:22Speaker 3: can't have them too often.
- 28:23Speaker 2: You can't have a grapefruit spin drift, or you can.
- 28:26Speaker 3: I can? I think who cares? Interact? All you want
- 28:29Speaker 3: get in there and mix up with it. I can't
- 28:32Speaker 3: remember if it makes it worse or like amplifies it
- 28:36Speaker 3: or deadens it. Oh no, but you know, the occasional
- 28:39Speaker 3: grapefruit can't be that harmful.
- 28:42Speaker 2: I can't believe, like modern medicine is so intense and
- 28:46Speaker 2: so like progressive, but it can be taken down by
- 28:49Speaker 2: a great grapefruit.
- 28:51Speaker 3: A mere citrus. What grapefruit is a very strong flavor.
- 28:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:55Speaker 3: So I guess there's something happening in there that's doing
- 28:58Speaker 3: all kinds of things in your body. I guess. But
- 29:01Speaker 3: I feel like the spin drift it's only ten percent.
- 29:04Speaker 2: Uh, the grapefruit one is mostly juice?
- 29:10Speaker 3: Is that true?
- 29:11Speaker 2: No? No, no, okay, it's it's less than ten though. Actually,
- 29:13Speaker 2: so you're fine.
- 29:14Speaker 3: They should make extra pulp spin drift.
- 29:16Speaker 2: No, what are you doing?
- 29:19Speaker 3: Can you imagine?
- 29:20Speaker 2: Oh, someone's going to hear this and go that's a
- 29:22Speaker 2: good idea.
- 29:25Speaker 3: Now, with more poles spin.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Drift now with more pulp. Yeah, there was zero and
- 29:29Speaker 2: now there is and now with pulp.
- 29:32Speaker 3: It feels like something dyed in the can.
- 29:35Speaker 2: Yuck. No, I don't want spin Drift to reach out,
- 29:40Speaker 2: dunde it.
- 29:42Speaker 3: What's your favorite spin Drift flavor? M If you don't,
- 29:46Speaker 3: if you're not going to Costco.
- 29:47Speaker 2: You just get to pick any of mojito no hito.
- 29:50Speaker 3: Oh it's called no hito. Yeah, yeah, it's just call
- 29:53Speaker 3: it mohito.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Hey, but there's no uh rum. There's no rum in it,
- 29:58Speaker 2: you know.
- 29:58Speaker 3: I like the mohito flavor. Do like that flavor? No heato?
- 30:02Speaker 3: Is there a raspberry flavor?
- 30:04Speaker 2: Probably? But I'm not into that.
- 30:05Speaker 3: Okay, I think I like that one too. Okay, there's
- 30:08Speaker 3: like a berry ish. I know we'll have to do
- 30:11Speaker 3: like spin Drift exchanges.
- 30:12Speaker 2: Yeah, that would be nice.
- 30:13Speaker 3: Oh I've got this crappy flavor, come take it. I
- 30:16Speaker 3: like the lemon tea flavor.
- 30:17Speaker 2: Oh, I like that one too.
- 30:18Speaker 3: That's a good one.
- 30:19Speaker 2: The half and half.
- 30:19Speaker 3: It feels like the like single parent flavor. Oh, I
- 30:24Speaker 3: don't know. Like if I'm a single dad, I want
- 30:26Speaker 3: the tea and lemonade. The kids won't drink it. It's
- 30:29Speaker 3: my little spin little thing. The kids don't like it.
- 30:32Speaker 3: When I have the kids for the weekend, I'm drinking
- 30:33Speaker 3: my lemon tea spin.
- 30:36Speaker 2: Keeping you happy that weekend. You're like, oh, the kids
- 30:39Speaker 2: are here, Thank God, I've got my half and half tea.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Spin Drift absolutely, spinder free trout, We've got an ad free.
- 30:46Speaker 3: We have a so long about your drink. If we
- 30:48Speaker 3: don't each get a palette of our favorite flavor, please, Also,
- 30:52Speaker 3: we should get to consult on the next flavor. I'm
- 30:53Speaker 3: talking to you spin Drift. Oh yeah, I feel like
- 30:57Speaker 3: there should be we should be behind the next flavor
- 31:00Speaker 3: of spin Drift.
- 31:01Speaker 2: Call us.
- 31:02Speaker 3: I have ideas. I'm not going to say them on
- 31:03Speaker 3: air because then I'll just steal my ideas.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Reach out and we'll tell you what we're thinking.
- 31:07Speaker 3: Take us to spin Drift Labs wherever the hell those are.
- 31:09Speaker 2: You know, I'll say one idea on air so they
- 31:12Speaker 2: can have a bad okay, little bubblegum gross. And that's
- 31:16Speaker 2: the type of ideas you want receive.
- 31:18Speaker 3: If you call us, you're going to get the opposite
- 31:20Speaker 3: good one perfect ideas. There's something else we have to
- 31:24Speaker 3: talk about. Now that we've each received our fifty thousand
- 31:27Speaker 3: dollars payment from spin Drift, which we were promised at
- 31:30Speaker 3: the beginning of the episode. I have to talk to
- 31:33Speaker 3: you about something else, which I don't want to. I
- 31:35Speaker 3: don't want to approach this in any way, but unfortunately,
- 31:38Speaker 3: how could I not. I was excited to have you
- 31:41Speaker 3: here today. I was thinking, we'll have a nice conversation,
- 31:45Speaker 3: nothing could possibly go wrong, and then we'll move on
- 31:48Speaker 3: with our days. I'll get my haircut and be on
- 31:52Speaker 3: Cloud nine. It's Cloud nine. It's just for general happiness,
- 31:56Speaker 3: right when you get a good haircut. Little surprise the
- 32:00Speaker 3: podcast is called I said no gifts, and you came
- 32:05Speaker 3: walking in holding what I would describe as something that
- 32:09Speaker 3: looks like a gift. Yeah, it's as neatly wrapped. Oh,
- 32:13Speaker 3: actually pretty heavy.
- 32:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:15Speaker 3: I'm lifting it for the first time on the episode
- 32:18Speaker 3: in kind of a long rectangle gift. Yes, is this
- 32:23Speaker 3: for me?
- 32:24Speaker 2: I I'm so sorry. I thought you were being coy.
- 32:29Speaker 2: I said no gifts, and I said, oh, come on,
- 32:32Speaker 2: my mom raised me better than that, right, I can't
- 32:34Speaker 2: throw up to a new place I've never been. You know,
- 32:37Speaker 2: it's kind of like a housewarming. This is your house,
- 32:39Speaker 2: you live here.
- 32:40Speaker 3: This is my home you live. It's leaving bag in
- 32:42Speaker 3: the corner.
- 32:42Speaker 2: I see it. I'm looking at it smells terrible. No, no,
- 32:46Speaker 2: you're okay. And so yeah, unfortunately I did bring a gift.
- 32:52Speaker 2: I allow that.
- 32:54Speaker 3: We'll show I opening hair on the podcast.
- 32:56Speaker 2: Ye please, all right.
- 33:00Speaker 3: It's wrapped in the La Times newspaper, which I support.
- 33:04Speaker 3: I support wrapping in the La Times. Politically, the La
- 33:07Speaker 3: Times is in a difficult place.
- 33:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:10Speaker 3: Their food section is good. I follow their food editor.
- 33:14Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I checked that on that.
- 33:15Speaker 3: I can't remember her name, but she's always posting good things. Uh.
- 33:18Speaker 3: And you got the sports section. I should probably check
- 33:21Speaker 3: in with my boys.
- 33:22Speaker 2: You check them out like sports, not at all.
- 33:27Speaker 3: But it's all sports.
- 33:28Speaker 2: Great, it's and entertainment, entertainment.
- 33:31Speaker 3: Uh okay, so open it right now? Yeah, okay. We
- 33:35Speaker 3: rarely get to rip a newspaper.
- 33:37Speaker 2: Look at that.
- 33:38Speaker 3: Oh queer.
- 33:40Speaker 2: For you.
- 33:44Speaker 3: There you go, that's me. Check that out, okay, ripping Chris.
- 33:49Speaker 3: Oh and I just yelled the word queer. If someone's
- 33:51Speaker 3: not watching the episode.
- 33:54Speaker 2: Just driving in their cars, yell queer. It's part of
- 33:58Speaker 2: the wrapping paper.
- 33:59Speaker 3: Everyone, it's part of the newspaper. It's the queer lens,
- 34:03Speaker 3: a history of photography and add for that.
- 34:05Speaker 2: It's oh my god, what's happening? What do you think
- 34:12Speaker 2: it is? You probably still don't know, or do you?
- 34:14Speaker 3: Okay, so so far, it's a little briefcase, silish briefcase
- 34:18Speaker 3: that almost looks like it's from the set of a
- 34:20Speaker 3: Wes Anderson film or something. It's navy blue with red trim. Yes, gorgeous.
- 34:25Speaker 2: Check that out. And we're opening careful with the insides.
- 34:28Speaker 3: Okay, gonna be very it's it full of marbles maybe
- 34:31Speaker 3: kind of Oh huh, I just like that opening.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Yeah, sounds it's a good sound.
- 34:36Speaker 3: Hopefully the listener likes that. Oh, it's almost like a
- 34:42Speaker 3: bubbly Okay, we're opening. Opening is a gorgeous is a Backgammon.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Kit to travel Backgammon set set?
- 34:52Speaker 3: Just the kit? This is beautiful. Wow. Have I've never
- 35:01Speaker 3: played Backgammon? And even like saying I was hoping hopefully
- 35:05Speaker 3: this is what it is? It is, I was correct.
- 35:08Speaker 3: I'm a gamer gamer at heart. Let's see. Let me
- 35:13Speaker 3: spread this. I'll close my laptop for a minute.
- 35:15Speaker 2: Play that use. I actually haven't seen the inside.
- 35:18Speaker 3: Oh it's pretty good, so beautiful.
- 35:21Speaker 2: I'm glad. It's from the seventies, so it's actually just
- 35:23Speaker 2: like a vintage backmage.
- 35:24Speaker 3: Where did this come from?
- 35:26Speaker 2: I found it on I think on Ittsy because there's
- 35:30Speaker 2: so many like new factory made backgam in sets. But
- 35:34Speaker 2: part of I think the specialness of a backgammon board
- 35:39Speaker 2: is that it is of old times. It's such an
- 35:41Speaker 2: old game that I wanted to bring you like a
- 35:43Speaker 2: cool old set.
- 35:45Speaker 3: This is Do you know how to play backgammon? Yes?
- 35:47Speaker 2: So backgammon is like kind of huge. I'm Persian and
- 35:51Speaker 2: I'm not sure if we invented this game. I certainly
- 35:54Speaker 2: do not check me how we invented it any ron.
- 35:58Speaker 3: It came from us ancient nobody look into it.
- 36:01Speaker 2: Nobody check that that could be correct. It's part of
- 36:04Speaker 2: the culture though, Like my parents play, my grandparents play.
- 36:08Speaker 2: When like you go to a Persian party, sort of
- 36:11Speaker 2: toward the end of the night, everyone's sitting around drinking
- 36:14Speaker 2: black tea and just kind of like playing some backgammon.
- 36:17Speaker 2: My grandpa taught me how to play and just brings
- 36:19Speaker 2: me peace and reminds me of my family, and I
- 36:22Speaker 2: wanted to share that with that.
- 36:23Speaker 3: It's so sweet. Where where does the word backgammon come from.
- 36:28Speaker 2: Don't ask me questions like this come on.
- 36:31Speaker 3: At least help help educate. This is a utility podcast. Ultimately,
- 36:34Speaker 3: when people learn this is this is the one show
- 36:37Speaker 3: people come to to learn. So if we can find
- 36:39Speaker 3: out where the words backgammon.
- 36:40Speaker 2: Is from, yeah, and we just want to know that,
- 36:41Speaker 2: and don't tell me who made this game.
- 36:43Speaker 3: And avoid any other fact about the game. It's I
- 36:48Speaker 3: wonder what, like the first games of backgammon even looked
- 36:51Speaker 3: like yeah, because this is obviously an evolved version. Although
- 36:55Speaker 3: I love the idea of this, like this is an
- 36:57Speaker 3: ancient Persian design. Yeah, brief case seventies coloring, it's.
- 37:03Speaker 4: From the Middle English forms of game and back, so
- 37:07Speaker 4: it's back and like gommon basically gommona game.
- 37:11Speaker 2: I didn't learn anything from that. I don't know.
- 37:13Speaker 3: That's a bad name for a game that tells you
- 37:15Speaker 3: nothing about Yeah, it sounds good, but it's like, well,
- 37:18Speaker 3: what game are we playing here? Yeah?
- 37:20Speaker 2: Let me try to think of it has anything to
- 37:21Speaker 2: do with the gameplay, back, end game, no.
- 37:24Speaker 3: Bactly game? So how do you play this? Let's do
- 37:28Speaker 3: a quick tutorial.
- 37:29Speaker 2: Oh boy, this is such a visual look at it.
- 37:33Speaker 3: I'll commentate on you. Let's let's you put these dice.
- 37:38Speaker 3: There are two dice, three.
- 37:39Speaker 2: There's three dice. Well, I don't start in my family.
- 37:42Speaker 2: I don't use the third one. That's just sort of
- 37:44Speaker 2: like if you want to double your wins.
- 37:46Speaker 3: Or you can chew on it.
- 37:48Speaker 2: Yeah, you can chew on it. That's this is your board.
- 37:51Speaker 2: You do you chew on that if you like.
- 37:52Speaker 3: It has multipliers of two.
- 37:55Speaker 2: I guess you can multiply. If you're like certain you're
- 37:57Speaker 2: going to win, you can roll the multiplier. Okay, because
- 38:00Speaker 2: when you play back game and you play like a
- 38:02Speaker 2: best of five for a best of three, if you
- 38:04Speaker 2: want a shorter game. Uh, but yeah, you set up
- 38:07Speaker 2: the board in a specific way. You can google the picture.
- 38:12Speaker 2: I'm not going to see five go three.
- 38:15Speaker 3: Go here?
- 38:15Speaker 2: Right and then so basically your side you have a
- 38:19Speaker 2: home and on my side, I have a home, and
- 38:21Speaker 2: we're just trying to get all of our colored pieces
- 38:24Speaker 2: all the way into our home and then remove them
- 38:26Speaker 2: all and put them back into the safe.
- 38:29Speaker 3: Looks.
- 38:29Speaker 2: See, I don't even know what these words the words
- 38:32Speaker 2: for the game are.
- 38:33Speaker 3: So it's a little checkersy kind of.
- 38:35Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a little bit like sorry too, because you're
- 38:37Speaker 2: trying to get pieces back into your home.
- 38:39Speaker 3: I think i've ever played Sorry.
- 38:40Speaker 2: Okay, well sorry, I brought it up par cheesy then never.
- 38:43Speaker 3: I've certainly never played.
- 38:44Speaker 2: Party just sorry, but a different name, unbranded? Yeah, well
- 38:48Speaker 2: par cheesy? Branded?
- 38:49Speaker 3: Is parteesy? A brand name?
- 38:51Speaker 2: Is it?
- 38:51Speaker 3: Par cheesy? Seems to me like the real name of Sorry. Then,
- 38:54Speaker 3: like Milton Bradley Hopkins and picked it out. Let's put
- 38:57Speaker 3: some branding on this. Yeah, yeah, yeah, make people apologize
- 38:59Speaker 3: to each other.
- 39:00Speaker 2: Yes, I like this game. It's pretty peaceful. It's like
- 39:04Speaker 2: a logic counting game. It like speaks to my math
- 39:06Speaker 2: brain and my grandpa. Okay, so you make bets? Okay, damn.
- 39:12Speaker 2: So it's kind of fun that way. Like anytime I
- 39:14Speaker 2: played with my mom, We're like, okay, so what are
- 39:15Speaker 2: we betting on?
- 39:16Speaker 3: And how much are you betting?
- 39:17Speaker 2: Usually just like a round of coffee or who buys
- 39:19Speaker 2: ice cream? Now, oh that's a good bets, like Cudi stack.
- 39:21Speaker 3: Okay, that's the sort of thing I could get into
- 39:23Speaker 3: where I'm not stressing out about losing money.
- 39:25Speaker 2: Yes, But when I was like I think I was
- 39:28Speaker 2: like nine, and I was playing with my grandpa who's
- 39:30Speaker 2: like a master. And I was like so confident. I said,
- 39:33Speaker 2: I bet you twenty dollars, which I had from my allowance,
- 39:37Speaker 2: right that I'll beat you. And this man was like, okay,
- 39:41Speaker 2: he fully beat me. He took my twenty oh, and
- 39:44Speaker 2: he would yeah, well, And I respect the hell out
- 39:47Speaker 2: of this because he was like, you learn now, learn now,
- 39:49Speaker 2: you learned.
- 39:50Speaker 3: I had an opposite thing that happened to me as
- 39:53Speaker 3: a kid is our parents were trying to teach us
- 39:55Speaker 3: that you shouldn't gamble. And I think we like played
- 39:57Speaker 3: a game of poker or whatever and something much easier
- 40:01Speaker 3: for children, and I won big and not my parents
- 40:04Speaker 3: thinking oh, they'll all lose and they'll lose their money,
- 40:06Speaker 3: and they refuse to give me the money. So I
- 40:09Speaker 3: guess that is also a game about gambling. You know,
- 40:12Speaker 3: the casino people, the mobsters charge about the money. You're
- 40:16Speaker 3: not going to give you all the money.
- 40:17Speaker 2: Hey, if you actually want to know that, you'd get
- 40:19Speaker 2: the money.
- 40:20Speaker 3: But when you start winning too much, then Robert de
- 40:22Speaker 3: Niro shows off and curbs you or whatever.
- 40:24Speaker 2: That's true.
- 40:25Speaker 3: So you've got to be careful with gambling. Yeah, So
- 40:28Speaker 3: but to start, you just kind of I want to.
- 40:31Speaker 2: Yeah, you can use those. We just use our hands
- 40:34Speaker 2: in my family. But they give you a little roller.
- 40:36Speaker 3: There is more hygienic. You don't have to wash your
- 40:39Speaker 3: hands after totally listen to that.
- 40:42Speaker 2: You roll it.
- 40:43Speaker 3: I can just do that for twenty minutes for the listener.
- 40:45Speaker 2: That's truly quiet.
- 40:47Speaker 3: And so you do this, and then I roll them
- 40:49Speaker 3: into my thing.
- 40:49Speaker 2: You roll them into any spot. You can roll them
- 40:51Speaker 2: anywhere wherever you like, as long as it's on the board,
- 40:54Speaker 2: off or you reroll. So you got a five and
- 40:58Speaker 2: a two, so you can either move one piece seven
- 41:01Speaker 2: or one piece five and one piece two.
- 41:04Speaker 3: So and listener, I know you're so engaged with this,
- 41:06Speaker 3: but I do want to do this, and you have
- 41:08Speaker 3: that patience. This is what a podcast is. It's listening
- 41:10Speaker 3: to a man learn how to play a complicated How.
- 41:13Speaker 2: Dare I do this? I should have foreseen that you
- 41:16Speaker 2: were just going to be like, now, how do you
- 41:17Speaker 2: play this game?
- 41:18Speaker 3: No? I want to just so you say I can roll,
- 41:21Speaker 3: I can move two or five.
- 41:22Speaker 2: Yes, but we haven't set up the board, so you
- 41:24Speaker 2: can't do anything.
- 41:24Speaker 3: Oh, so how do you set up the Are you serious?
- 41:27Speaker 3: I just want to see how it.
- 41:28Speaker 2: I'll do it.
- 41:28Speaker 3: Really, the listener has to be patient. This is how
- 41:31Speaker 3: the gate I mean, last episode they listened to me
- 41:34Speaker 3: open like maybe one or two episodes ago, open like
- 41:36Speaker 3: nineteen layers of a gift. So I think that two minutes.
- 41:40Speaker 2: Of set it up.
- 41:43Speaker 3: She's taking out the blue pieces, the kind of uh
- 41:46Speaker 3: they're probably the size of like a thin mint, and
- 41:50Speaker 3: they do look like something I would want to know
- 41:52Speaker 3: on their dark I don't want to eat all game
- 41:55Speaker 3: that has hard plastic like this makes me hungry. It
- 41:57Speaker 3: looks like a satisfying snap.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Okay, that's not that's up here.
- 42:02Speaker 3: Okay, so she's put the blue ones in on different things,
- 42:05Speaker 3: but she left one blue one in the little holder.
- 42:08Speaker 2: I don't know what's an extra one. That's it's just
- 42:10Speaker 2: an extra piece.
- 42:11Speaker 3: So I'm spoiled.
- 42:12Speaker 2: It's just for you.
- 42:13Speaker 3: You can on that one deep in backgammon coins? Is
- 42:17Speaker 3: that what they're called.
- 42:18Speaker 2: I actually don't know what the pieces are called. Look
- 42:19Speaker 2: at you asking me all this stuff.
- 42:21Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 42:22Speaker 2: I'm like, I just play with my grandpa. Reminds you
- 42:24Speaker 2: of my family, and I love you, Ron.
- 42:25Speaker 3: And now it's been set up, and.
- 42:27Speaker 2: Okay, so this is my home. This is your home.
- 42:31Speaker 3: Okay.
- 42:31Speaker 2: So you're you're you are white, I'm white, and I'm blue, okay,
- 42:37Speaker 2: and so you would be trying to take your white
- 42:39Speaker 2: pieces and put them all in here, all right.
- 42:41Speaker 3: But this is my home. Oh and I'm on this,
- 42:44Speaker 3: So you move.
- 42:45Speaker 2: Like if you wanted to. Yeah, you're going this way
- 42:48Speaker 2: and I'm going this way into my home.
- 42:51Speaker 3: Okay. So now considering my two and five right now,
- 42:55Speaker 3: I do want to at least move one piece. Where
- 42:58Speaker 3: what can I do?
- 42:59Speaker 2: So a good move for five. Here's the other thing.
- 43:02Speaker 2: You never want to leave one of your little puck
- 43:04Speaker 2: pieces alone because then if I roll something, I could
- 43:07Speaker 2: crush you and then you're killed.
- 43:09Speaker 3: Ultimately, it's a game about community, ultimately, community and home.
- 43:13Speaker 2: Hey, for me, that's what it is. But we're really
- 43:16Speaker 2: getting that's kind of what you want to know about.
- 43:19Speaker 2: Someone's hairs are in this vintage board.
- 43:22Speaker 3: That's probably a dead person.
- 43:23Speaker 2: And I'm so sorry.
- 43:26Speaker 3: This could be a haunted Uh.
- 43:28Speaker 2: You'd be so lucky to be haunted by someone backgammon.
- 43:33Speaker 2: It actually would be a nice experience. The ghost makes
- 43:35Speaker 2: you tea every day.
- 43:36Speaker 3: Yeah, you just hear diet there in the background and
- 43:38Speaker 3: the satisfying little thing rolling around.
- 43:40Speaker 2: Yeah, you smoke cucka with a ghost.
- 43:41Speaker 3: Oh that sounds great, not bad. Okay, So now there's
- 43:45Speaker 3: a piece in the middle of the board.
- 43:46Speaker 2: That's what I'm showing you. If you got killed, this
- 43:48Speaker 2: is where there's a little bit of violence, and then
- 43:52Speaker 2: to get this piece back in play, you would roll
- 43:56Speaker 2: and then you have to sit it back in your home.
- 43:59Speaker 3: Okay.
- 44:00Speaker 2: So like if you roll the two, you could sit
- 44:01Speaker 2: it in the two spot.
- 44:03Speaker 3: So that's why I wouldn't want to take a two.
- 44:05Speaker 2: Right now, That's why you wouldn't want to leave them
- 44:07Speaker 2: by themselves.
- 44:07Speaker 3: I want to. I would want to take a five.
- 44:09Speaker 2: You could do five. Five is good because it friends
- 44:12Speaker 2: with other friends, and then you could actually take the
- 44:15Speaker 2: two play the same thing too.
- 44:17Speaker 3: That far already you're.
- 44:18Speaker 2: A little bit safe. Yeah you got one guy back home.
- 44:21Speaker 3: I love this. I feel like I can really get
- 44:24Speaker 3: to This is a game that I It's in the
- 44:26Speaker 3: same category as badminton, sure, where it's pleasant listening, no
- 44:31Speaker 3: one gets hurt. Gay, that is what I'm saying. This
- 44:35Speaker 3: feels a gay friendly. Oh yeah, it's stylish, it's got
- 44:39Speaker 3: everything you need. And I could play this while eating
- 44:42Speaker 3: a grapefruit and you do from my butler.
- 44:45Speaker 2: You just yes, your butler comes over. You snack, yes,
- 44:49Speaker 2: eat sweets, you drink tea. There's actually a Silver Lake
- 44:52Speaker 2: backgam and club of it. I've been to. I've been twice.
- 44:57Speaker 2: I'm banned and actually, let's let's not talk about it.
- 45:03Speaker 2: They have very inconsistent events. You just kind of like
- 45:06Speaker 2: have to check the Instagram to see, uh, right, when
- 45:09Speaker 2: they're when they're playing. But it's really nice. It's just
- 45:12Speaker 2: a bunch of people playing back agad.
- 45:14Speaker 3: I need to join a club. I should I should
- 45:17Speaker 3: join a club. Okay, are you part of any clubs? No?
- 45:23Speaker 2: No, No, I think we have enough community where we
- 45:26Speaker 2: don't need to like join clubs.
- 45:27Speaker 3: Right, there's just so much within comedy that we're all
- 45:30Speaker 3: just trapped with each other. None. No, maybe there's no
- 45:33Speaker 3: out of this community.
- 45:35Speaker 2: Essentially, what like, it's a cult, that's what you're saying.
- 45:38Speaker 3: Basically a very unhealthy cult.
- 45:41Speaker 2: Hey, but all my friends are in this club.
- 45:45Speaker 3: Wait, how often that's been.
- 45:47Speaker 2: Said about colts generally?
- 45:49Speaker 3: How could it possibly be a cult? I love all
- 45:51Speaker 3: of these people.
- 45:53Speaker 2: Well, no one's harming me.
- 45:54Speaker 3: They're all so nice to me.
- 45:55Speaker 2: Look I write you a game.
- 45:57Speaker 3: They want to be around me all the time. Yeah,
- 45:59Speaker 3: they won't let me go. Oh these people care about me.
- 46:01Speaker 2: Okay, shoot, I can't think about that too hard.
- 46:05Speaker 3: Not thanks, Okay, Well, I'm excited to actually learn how
- 46:09Speaker 3: to play this.
- 46:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I could teach you more in depth.
- 46:11Speaker 2: I just sort of like, this is not the place
- 46:13Speaker 2: for me to.
- 46:14Speaker 3: Give you the yeah, to be like mildly conscious of
- 46:16Speaker 3: a listener falling asleep at the wheel. They're clear, I
- 46:20Speaker 3: welcome up now they're over correcting the cars rolling across
- 46:28Speaker 3: the freeway, whipple ash event. Okay, I'm very excited about this.
- 46:34Speaker 3: Are there any other games like this you play like this?
- 46:37Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, I'm not too into board games, but
- 46:41Speaker 2: if anyone's got a board game night going on, I'm
- 46:43Speaker 2: happy to join. I'm very competitive, so it's kind of
- 46:45Speaker 2: bad you kind of don't want me there if you're
- 46:48Speaker 2: just trying. I can okay, but I'm like pretty harmless,
- 46:53Speaker 2: and uh, when I get angry, people usually laugh at me,
- 46:58Speaker 2: so it's kind of fun. Actually scared of me. I'm
- 47:01Speaker 2: just started sitting there going like the roses, that's so
- 47:06Speaker 2: non threatening.
- 47:07Speaker 3: That's the person you want someone who's competitive but not
- 47:11Speaker 3: an asshole.
- 47:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm sort of like a jigglypuff when when she
- 47:15Speaker 2: gets mad when everyone falls asleep at her singing that's
- 47:19Speaker 2: intended to make people fall asleep, and then she's.
- 47:21Speaker 3: Like, poor character, that poor character has been cursed. All
- 47:26Speaker 3: she can do is kind of is puff she. I
- 47:29Speaker 3: would say they they probably ultimately we've talked about Kirby
- 47:34Speaker 3: on this podcast before and kind of I think we decided.
- 47:38Speaker 2: They they them for Kirby.
- 47:40Speaker 3: But uh, Yeahglypuff I think is a she? They yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 47:43Speaker 3: And her life is a living hell.
- 47:46Speaker 2: I can't believe it. Poor.
- 47:47Speaker 3: All she wants to do is be a star. It's
- 47:50Speaker 3: very Greek, very Greek tragedy, like yeah, like the gods
- 47:55Speaker 3: say you can, you'll be able to sing, but it'll
- 47:57Speaker 3: put everyone to sleep.
- 47:58Speaker 2: Yeah, and they'll never know, they'll never know how good you.
- 48:01Speaker 3: Are, the poor little thing. And she's gorgeous she is,
- 48:04Speaker 3: but they are, they are. Yes, she's such a fun
- 48:10Speaker 3: character and Smash Brothers almost worthless, but she gets to
- 48:13Speaker 3: float around and put everyone to sleep or what have you?
- 48:17Speaker 3: These pink Nintendo characters everybody loves someone.
- 48:20Speaker 2: I know, they're the best ones.
- 48:21Speaker 3: They look like Marshmallows. Yeah, and Kirby's a little more powerful.
- 48:26Speaker 3: I will say.
- 48:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I play Kirby for Super Smash.
- 48:28Speaker 3: Right, and I make everyone mad because I just do
- 48:31Speaker 3: the slam.
- 48:32Speaker 2: That's the only move I do. We're the same, I'm
- 48:34Speaker 2: just slamming from this guy, right.
- 48:36Speaker 3: Yeah. Anyone that's actually good at the game is mad
- 48:38Speaker 3: at me. They're saying you're cheating, and I'm saying, well,
- 48:40Speaker 3: then they shouldn't have put the move in.
- 48:41Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not cheating.
- 48:43Speaker 3: I'm using the power of the character.
- 48:45Speaker 2: Right.
- 48:45Speaker 3: I'm sorry that I know how to play the game
- 48:48Speaker 3: and you're being fancy.
- 48:50Speaker 2: You're vindicated.
- 48:51Speaker 3: It's a game of brute force, and ultimately Kirby can
- 48:54Speaker 3: become an anvil or a rock a rock. They should
- 48:58Speaker 3: do a heavy backgammon piece, that'll be.
- 49:00Speaker 2: That's sure, they should. Why not?
- 49:02Speaker 3: They should be a little more creative.
- 49:04Speaker 2: Things they could do, for like a piano, grand piano.
- 49:07Speaker 3: Yeah, grand piano is a great idea.
- 49:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I think heavy backgam in board.
- 49:11Speaker 3: Would require a lot of explaining. There would have to
- 49:13Speaker 3: be like a notification that popped up on the screen.
- 49:16Speaker 2: That's a bad idea for you, Nintendo. But if you
- 49:18Speaker 2: want good ones again.
- 49:19Speaker 3: We can come by. We can come by after our
- 49:22Speaker 3: stopped spin Drift. It'll be a busy day for us
- 49:24Speaker 3: pitching idea.
- 49:25Speaker 2: Yeah, but we're happy to.
- 49:27Speaker 3: We're ultimately drinkers and gamers, and so these companies reach out. Please.
- 49:35Speaker 3: Is there any I feel like Smash Brothers got all
- 49:37Speaker 3: the characters they need. I'm wondering if there's any other
- 49:39Speaker 3: character I would like them to put in the game.
- 49:41Speaker 2: It'd be fun if you could put yourself sort of
- 49:43Speaker 2: in the game.
- 49:44Speaker 3: I don't like when people put that, like the me character.
- 49:46Speaker 2: Character an Ai scam copy of Just You Bridgery.
- 49:51Speaker 3: In the game fully motion captured. It might be be
- 49:55Speaker 3: on board for that.
- 49:55Speaker 2: Yeah, you're like power you grow hair and then it
- 49:58Speaker 2: chokes the other character long wavy locks.
- 50:01Speaker 3: Oh that's great. Have you ever played the game Bayonetta.
- 50:04Speaker 3: There's a video game called Bayonetta where the woman's like
- 50:06Speaker 3: a witch kind of looks like Sarah Palin and her
- 50:09Speaker 3: hair like strangles people and it's incredible, And she's a
- 50:12Speaker 3: character in Smash Brothers.
- 50:13Speaker 2: Oh, okay, so I believe somebody already.
- 50:15Speaker 3: Has are they're ahead of us of those stuff things?
- 50:18Speaker 3: Get back to me. Yeah, I wonder what my Smash
- 50:21Speaker 3: Brothers has. Those gloves, you know, the white gloves, and
- 50:23Speaker 3: this podcast has a very glove forward theme. I do
- 50:27Speaker 3: a lot, or I used to do a lot more
- 50:29Speaker 3: of these, but I would do demos with the gifts
- 50:32Speaker 3: and I would be wearing a pair of opera gloves
- 50:34Speaker 3: now pepper.
- 50:35Speaker 2: Gloves for my viage seventies.
- 50:38Speaker 3: I think that they're probably going to come into play.
- 50:40Speaker 3: I will have to do a video with these. They
- 50:42Speaker 3: show up at the live shows more often, which I
- 50:45Speaker 3: think is becoming continually confusing for listeners who hadn't seen
- 50:49Speaker 3: those videos, and they're like, why is he wearing these
- 50:50Speaker 3: filthy opera gloves?
- 50:51Speaker 2: That makes sense, I'd be confused.
- 50:53Speaker 3: But then you say, well, look, I'll just go along
- 50:55Speaker 3: with it because I'm a good sport. I'm a good
- 50:57Speaker 3: audience member.
- 50:58Speaker 2: Of course, and we trust you.
- 51:00Speaker 3: Everyone trusts me inherently for some reason. After listening to
- 51:05Speaker 3: this show, Well, is there anything left you you'd like
- 51:07Speaker 3: to say about Backgaming?
- 51:10Speaker 2: I don't know. I think I've said it all. It's
- 51:13Speaker 2: just pretty special. I grew up with this game, and
- 51:17Speaker 2: it took a weird time with Iran right now, So
- 51:21Speaker 2: I was really thinking about my fan.
- 51:23Speaker 3: All the wonderful things that Iran has done.
- 51:25Speaker 2: Yes, it's actually got like a cool, extremely beautiful, artistic culture,
- 51:29Speaker 2: and I was reflecting on all that, and I wanted
- 51:31Speaker 2: to bring you back.
- 51:32Speaker 3: I think that's so lovely. I think that's really wonderful.
- 51:35Speaker 3: Not to mention all of the wonderful food that's coming
- 51:37Speaker 3: out of it.
- 51:37Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I mean, come.
- 51:38Speaker 3: On, there's just so much people need to be talking.
- 51:41Speaker 3: I think more about the good things coming out of Iran.
- 51:43Speaker 2: Yeah, we do a lot of sweet savory in the food, oh,
- 51:46Speaker 2: which I love. I sneak in something sweet in kind
- 51:49Speaker 2: of every day sweet delicious. Yeah.
- 51:54Speaker 3: Well, I think we should now play another game, okay,
- 51:57Speaker 3: game of my own design. We're gonna play a game
- 52:02Speaker 3: called Gift mess sure, okay, and maybe we should. I'm
- 52:05Speaker 3: gonna just kind of cough. I usually ask for the
- 52:08Speaker 3: guests to pick a number, but I want you to
- 52:10Speaker 3: roll a number. Why not?
- 52:14Speaker 2: I have rolled a three?
- 52:15Speaker 3: Three? Okay. I hope that nice satisfying dice got roll
- 52:19Speaker 3: got on mic guys from today. I know this is
- 52:22Speaker 3: maybe our best episode. Those are the coins or the
- 52:28Speaker 3: backgammon cookies following on each other. Can I just bite one.
- 52:34Speaker 2: Go for it now. That sound was good, but I
- 52:38Speaker 2: bet not great in your mouth right?
- 52:41Speaker 3: Terrible? Okay, at least my teeth didn't dissolve, would crumb? Okay?
- 52:49Speaker 3: You roll a three? Yep? Okay. I have to do
- 52:51Speaker 3: some like calculating to get our game pieces, so math
- 52:53Speaker 3: for you. I mean, that's what the show is that today,
- 52:56Speaker 3: Ridgerd the math whiz reach out for me to calculate
- 53:00Speaker 3: anything right now, you can do some promotion, recommendation, whatever
- 53:05Speaker 3: you want to do with the mikeel be right back.
- 53:06Speaker 2: Oh okay, promotion, I guess I'll self promo me if
- 53:11Speaker 2: you want to follow me at child Clown on Instagram.
- 53:14Speaker 2: That's just kind of a name I chose years ago
- 53:16Speaker 2: and I'm freaking sticking to it, you know, yeah, if
- 53:20Speaker 2: you just follow me all I'm doing shows around La
- 53:22Speaker 2: all the time, improv sketch and oh. We do this
- 53:26Speaker 2: show called Mama Mia but different. It's pretty good. We
- 53:29Speaker 2: do a different jukebox musical with eight abba songs. The
- 53:32Speaker 2: story is different every time though, So that's a really
- 53:35Speaker 2: fun show to check out if you want. We've done
- 53:36Speaker 2: one where it's taken place in the nick you It
- 53:39Speaker 2: was formula babies verus breastfeeding babies. We'd done one in
- 53:42Speaker 2: like old timey renaissance town about a love triangle with
- 53:45Speaker 2: a baker and two ladies from the woods. Anyway, it
- 53:49Speaker 2: gets weird. So that's a good show. Just follow me.
- 53:51Speaker 2: You can see shows like that. That's my promo.
- 53:53Speaker 3: Excellent promo. Thank you Mama and Mia, but different. It
- 53:56Speaker 3: seems so wild every single time, and it sure is.
- 53:59Speaker 3: And it's our and Patrick McDonald one of the busiest
- 54:02Speaker 3: man's in the city, he demands, one of the busiest men.
- 54:06Speaker 2: The busiest man's I ever met. He does it all.
- 54:11Speaker 2: Love that guy.
- 54:14Speaker 3: This is how we play gift Master. I'm going to
- 54:15Speaker 3: name three things, three items gifts that you can give away.
- 54:19Speaker 3: I'm name three celebrities and you can tell me which
- 54:21Speaker 3: celebrity you would give which gift and why.
- 54:23Speaker 2: Oh shoot, okay, oh shoot, oh shoot. I'm just like
- 54:27Speaker 2: I hope I know these celebrities.
- 54:28Speaker 3: We'll all the celebrities hopefully, Okay, we'll see Okay. The
- 54:32Speaker 3: gifts you'll be giving today are number one, a trip
- 54:35Speaker 3: to the hospital, Number two of Vegas residency, and number
- 54:39Speaker 3: three inescapable debt. Now, the celebrities you'll be giving them too.
- 54:44Speaker 3: Are number one Tim Allen rough Rough I don't know
- 54:49Speaker 3: how to make the actual noise he makes, but who cares.
- 54:52Speaker 3: Number two is Et the Extra Terrestrial love Et. That's
- 54:58Speaker 3: some pitch from our producer on.
- 55:00Speaker 2: At least that's perfect.
- 55:01Speaker 3: And number three is Javier Bardam Oh okay, handsome as ever.
- 55:05Speaker 2: Yeah, great guy. Lovely Bond villain.
- 55:08Speaker 3: Oh yeah, very scary Bond villain. He's willing to look
- 55:10Speaker 3: scary despite being very good looking.
- 55:12Speaker 2: Right.
- 55:13Speaker 3: You think about No Country for Old Men, one of
- 55:15Speaker 3: the weirdest looking people in movies. Yeah, then you see
- 55:18Speaker 3: him outside of it and you think, wow, what a transform.
- 55:20Speaker 3: That's a transformation.
- 55:21Speaker 2: That's right.
- 55:22Speaker 3: You put a bad haircut on a good looking man,
- 55:24Speaker 3: it'll ruin.
- 55:24Speaker 2: That's kind of it.
- 55:27Speaker 3: Okay, so I've named everything.
- 55:29Speaker 2: I guess, Okay, great, Shoot, this is tough because I'm
- 55:34Speaker 2: trying to Like, I had an instinct to give somebody
- 55:37Speaker 2: a certain gift, and then I was like, well that
- 55:39Speaker 2: falls poorly on my The other guys, right, I really
- 55:42Speaker 2: figure this out.
- 55:43Speaker 3: It's amaze.
- 55:45Speaker 2: I guess if I give Tim Allen inescapable debt, I
- 55:49Speaker 2: feel like he can outrun that.
- 55:52Speaker 3: Well, here's what I'm going to say, and don't let
- 55:54Speaker 3: this sway you. That's just going to give him more
- 55:57Speaker 3: of a reason to work, Yeah, and make more.
- 56:00Speaker 2: To really look at him a lot longer.
- 56:02Speaker 1: Right.
- 56:02Speaker 3: Do you see some of these ultra rich celebrities that
- 56:04Speaker 3: don't stop working, You think they must have gambling debt? Sure,
- 56:08Speaker 3: so that could be the situation where we would never
- 56:10Speaker 3: got it. Right.
- 56:11Speaker 2: Here's where I'm struggling because Et is my favorite in
- 56:14Speaker 2: those three, right, and I want to give Et kind
- 56:16Speaker 2: of the best one. But so I think Et is
- 56:19Speaker 2: getting a residency in Vegas, okay, And and we're putting
- 56:24Speaker 2: Et on a visa, so the government can't can't.
- 56:28Speaker 3: I mean, it doesn't matter rules the laws.
- 56:31Speaker 2: I could to protect Et, because if I send Et
- 56:34Speaker 2: to the hospital, the government's going to come for him.
- 56:35Speaker 2: If I send Et to inescapable debt, the government's going
- 56:38Speaker 2: to chase him even more than they already chasing him,
- 56:40Speaker 2: you know. And then if you give him a residency,
- 56:42Speaker 2: I hope he's stayed protected. I just want Et to
- 56:47Speaker 2: be okay, And my parents live in Vegas. They can
- 56:49Speaker 2: go check out show. I can stay with them and
- 56:52Speaker 2: go watch ET's show.
- 56:53Speaker 3: What do you think et would do live on drag totally. Yeah,
- 56:58Speaker 3: he's already done dress the sinking. Such danger in today's
- 57:02Speaker 3: political environment. Or a guy, God, he's an alien. He's
- 57:05Speaker 3: doing drag. The only protection is giving him Vegas connections.
- 57:10Speaker 3: That's the only thing that will protect you from Donald
- 57:11Speaker 3: Trump is somehow being attached to gambling.
- 57:14Speaker 2: Yes, so I'm putting eat there in Vegas.
- 57:16Speaker 3: It's a safe spot.
- 57:17Speaker 2: Yes, oh mm hmm. I'm giving Javier Bardem the debt
- 57:21Speaker 2: because if he keeps working, I'm happy about it. Love
- 57:23Speaker 2: to see him keep working.
- 57:24Speaker 3: That would be fantastic.
- 57:25Speaker 2: It'd be lovely.
- 57:26Speaker 3: Get this guy on a career treadmill, sure, put.
- 57:30Speaker 2: Him on Broadway, put him on a TV show.
- 57:32Speaker 3: I'll watch a multicam somebody else gam he's.
- 57:36Speaker 2: The scariest guy with a big heart in something. It's
- 57:41Speaker 2: just a guy from no country for old man. It
- 57:42Speaker 2: just like works at a convenience store. He's the same guy,
- 57:45Speaker 2: but it's a multicamp.
- 57:45Speaker 3: Now he's the new stepdad in the family. They're like,
- 57:47Speaker 3: there's something wrong with Dad's not gonna be the name
- 57:49Speaker 3: of the new Chuck Lori show. There's something wrong with Dad.
- 57:52Speaker 2: It would be Chuck lory too that you would put
- 57:54Speaker 2: the put Javier Bardem in there. Dad has a history, Yes,
- 57:59Speaker 2: and then Tim headed to the hospital. Sorry, buddy.
- 58:05Speaker 3: The only thing I will say about a trip to
- 58:07Speaker 3: the hospital, I do think ET a trip to the
- 58:10Speaker 3: hospital more as a service animal.
- 58:13Speaker 2: Mmm. So you think it is visiting the hosp.
- 58:16Speaker 3: He's visiting the hospital visiting sick children. I think that
- 58:19Speaker 3: would be very It's kind of nice thinking selfies with
- 58:22Speaker 3: sick kids.
- 58:22Speaker 2: But if you put him in the hospital, that's like
- 58:24Speaker 2: where they're gonna cut him open to see what alien
- 58:26Speaker 2: is case.
- 58:26Speaker 3: That's kind of part of ET where he goes through
- 58:28Speaker 3: the scary tunnel. Yeah, you don't want that Elliott screaming.
- 58:32Speaker 3: That was very hard for me to watch as a child.
- 58:35Speaker 3: But maybe ET needs that exposure to a good hospital setting.
- 58:38Speaker 2: So you're trying to pitch me send an ET to
- 58:40Speaker 2: the hospital.
- 58:42Speaker 3: I think ET is at home in the hospital or
- 58:45Speaker 3: on stage in Vegas.
- 58:46Speaker 2: I'm settled in Vegas, in Vegas.
- 58:48Speaker 3: ET phone hospital. Now I don't know. Well, I think
- 58:53Speaker 3: you played very well. Thank you, very thoughtful, very thoughtful. Okay,
- 58:57Speaker 3: now we on Alyse has a we're playing. We also
- 59:00Speaker 3: play a game called gift or a curse. We're doing
- 59:02Speaker 3: the mini to go version with Honalise today, So Honale
- 59:05Speaker 3: is gonna name something and we're each going to say
- 59:07Speaker 3: if it's a gift or a curse and why. Then
- 59:10Speaker 3: Analise will tell us if we're a right or wrong
- 59:12Speaker 3: because they have the correct answer. Answer, there's a right answer. Okay, Honalise,
- 59:16Speaker 3: what are we doing today?
- 59:17Speaker 4: Gift or a curse?
- 59:19Speaker 3: Group discounts, group discounts? Do you want to go or
- 59:24Speaker 3: do you want me to go?
- 59:25Speaker 2: Uh? You go ahead?
- 59:27Speaker 3: Okay. I think group discounts. Group discounts are a curse,
- 59:37Speaker 3: an absolute curse. I don't like any discount that has
- 59:40Speaker 3: a qualification. I want to be able to show up
- 59:44Speaker 3: without my family, without my friends. Maybe I'm a drifter.
- 59:48Speaker 3: We're not thinking about drifters when we're talking about group discounts.
- 59:51Speaker 3: They come in from out of town, they murder someone,
- 59:53Speaker 3: they want to go to an escape room. Sure the
- 59:58Speaker 3: group discount is not offered to them.
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: They murdered someone, they've murdered.
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: Someone, They want to have some fun, and they're like, well,
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: I don't have anybody in this town. I don't know anybody,
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: and now I don't get the discount. You have to
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: ultimately any discount. Shoot, if you're going to give a
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: percentage off, you should be able to give it to
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: a family of fifteen or someone who just pulled up
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: in a rickety old car covered in blood.
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: Do you want equality for drifters drifters?
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: Yes, ultimately for drifters. Okay, I think it's a curse.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: I was also going to say curse, but not for
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: your reason where you want murderers to have a nice
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: time at the escape room. I sort of was thinking
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: that it's it's a nice idea, but organizing a group
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: to go do something sucks. And then you have the
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: person one or two people dropping out the day of
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: and you had exactly the right number, and now you're like,
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: now we don't put the discountbard And then you have
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: to hang out in a large, large group. I don't
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: love that, right, I love smaller group hangs.
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: Oh me too.
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: So I'd pay any money to not have the emotional
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: labor of putting together a group. Are hanging out in
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: a large large group setting just for a discount.
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: All right, I agree with you. Let's see, Honalise, what
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: is the answer.
- 1:01:07Speaker 4: You both win the games. It's a curse. It's a
- 1:01:10Speaker 4: curse for all of the reasons mentioned above. It is
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: a nightmare trying to organize people. And also what, I'm single,
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: so I don't get a discount. There's already enough things
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: that are going against me in this world.
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: Like you're a drifter to.
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: Think about the murder thing.
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: We don't know where Honaly is from. They refuse to
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: give any information to us. We've never seen an ID
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: or home address. All right, cool, so we don't know. Uh,
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: we're just always on edge around onlyse no.
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: I mean I do frequent escape rooms.
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: So just saying, do not give this person a reason
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: to kill. Well, we won. We all won today. We did.
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: And now this is the final segment of the podcast.
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: It's called I Said No Emails. People are writing into
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: I Said No Gifts at gmail dot com desperate for answers.
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: They're also sending in voice notes, Onaliz, will you please
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: drag us through the voice notes qualifications so people know
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: how to do this.
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: If you'd like to send us a voice note, please
- 1:02:07Speaker 4: make sure that you record it in a quiet space,
- 1:02:10Speaker 4: have it be under sixty seconds, and you send it
- 1:02:12Speaker 4: to I Said No Gifts at.
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: Gmail dot com. Make it a question. Make it a question, yes, beautiful. Ok,
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: we're gonna read one today despite all of this talk
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: about voice notes. Cool. I'll help me answer you a question.
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: Yeah, of course.
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: Okay, this is Hello Bridger. A question for you and
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: your guest. I am a high school teacher and I'm
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: having a hard time dealing with students using AI for
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: their writing assignments. I can pick it out easily on
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: my own, as any good English teacher can, or with
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: AI detection tools if needed, but I'd like some advice
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: for the next time I find let's say, text evidence
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: in the form of a quote that isn't even in
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: our class novel parentheses. That's called an AI hallucination. I
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: know what an AI hallucination is. Sure, don't talk down
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: to me. How should I let the student know that
- 1:02:59Speaker 3: I have caught them played rising so that they understand
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: that I know this partly because they're riding is garbage,
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: But without me saying that they're riding is garbage. Any
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: advice would be helpful doing the Lord's work. And that's
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: from mad Vintage. That's a I hope that's the teacher's name,
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: mister or missus or ms or what have you mad
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: vintage cool name, cool, very cool name. Yeah, you pull
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: up on a motorcycle, kid, sir, not gonna be doing
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: any AI anymore.
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: Yeah, that's our advice. Actually, I think buy a motorcycle.
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: Become the ultimate badass. That's right, carry some sort of
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: sword or knife on your hip. Feel like a threat to.
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: The student and they will respect.
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: Yes, are you in a leather vest? That could be
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: the problem already. If you're not wearing a leather vest every.
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: Day, just kind of buy a leather vest, then you're good.
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: The students feel like they can run over you with
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: their AI tools.
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: Yeah, but not if you're in a leather vest.
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: No way. They want to be cool. They want to
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: feel like somebody else at the bar.
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: Yeah, teach with sunglasses on. There you go.
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: I think that that's a perfectly fine idea. I mean
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: there's also you know, I feel like this teacher is
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: blaming the AI here instead of blaming themselves. Maybe they're
- 1:04:09Speaker 3: a horrible teacher, and so the student doesn't know how
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: to write, So now they're turning to a robot computer
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: to spew out some slop and learning nothing. And the
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: education system is in jeopardy because of mad vintage.
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: Well, I would say, maybe they could be a good teacher,
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: and it's just that just just to play that as
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: advocating you could be a great teacher. And then still
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: kids would be like, Oh, it takes effort to do
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: good writing. I actually don't want to put in effort today.
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: I want to go to the mall. What do you
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: kids do?
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: I want to skateboard at the mall.
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: I skate at the mall. So I'm gonna let the
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: robot do the effort. I'm just hoping they're return retaining
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: information in class. Like right, I didn't love doing essays,
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: but I loved learning in class. Right, I can measure that.
- 1:05:02Speaker 3: They're very different things. They are. Yeah, some I enjoyed
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: writing an essay, but essentially can't pay attention to anything.
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: I've been diagnosed by listeners as having ADHD. Then jury
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: still out.
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: On that listeners.
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: The listeners are reaching out.
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: Don't reach out to me if you're trying to diagnose
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: me with anything. Let me just put that out there
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: right now.
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: I will say, I've been watching Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: Apparently the viewers of the show reached out last season
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: to one of the one of the cast mates and said,
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: it looks like you've got an alloyed enlarged thyroid. Check
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: it out. She had an enlarged thyroil.
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: And that's okay, and let my doctor do that. Okay.
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: I don't want to come and.
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: Swing to reach out to a stranger and like something's
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: enlarged on your body.
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: Yeah, don't tell me nothing. I know I have bad pasture.
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: Let me alone.
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: But chiropractors just won't leave you alone.
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: Now, don't you dare get in there?
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: How did we get here? Oh? Yeah, essays versus learning
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: in class, I do think that the teacher should just
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: be as brutal as possible.
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: I think, yeah, if you notice it, you don't have
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: to be gentle about it. You'd be like, guys, I
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: know you're using AI for this.
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: Right, you're bad writers?
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: Yeah, you could be good writers. Maybe that's a spin
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: you could give it. It's like, I know you're better
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: writers than what you're turning in because you're turning in AI.
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: To me, right, this is a new dangerous minds. Do
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: you remember that movie with Michelle Feiffer, Oh yes, maybe
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: we do an AI version of that where a toughest
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: nails teacher shows up to tell the students don't use
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: AI yeah, you know, in a leather vest, probably to
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: be like I've got street cred. I don't use a
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: computer to write my essays. I use the word processor,
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: but I don't use I don't go any further than that.
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: I use the spell check, but I don't go any
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: further than that.
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: Or you could assign handwritten essays.
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: They must be doing that now, right.
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: Yeah, which you could still have the effort, the effort
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: to write it all out. It's sort of just like
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: a dunk on the kid, you know. It's like, if
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: you're to do that, go ahead and do that. It
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: kind of is a little bit easier to just put
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: your thoughts down. If you make the essay shorter too,
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: I feel like it incentivizes someone to actually use their brain, right,
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: Like I can get through three pages handwritten.
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: I can write a four sentence essay that too. Yeah,
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: why not?
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: Maybe we're just building confidence. You assign a one paragraph
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: thing and build from there sure that they are writing it,
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: because like one paragraph, I could do that and still
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: go skate at them all. I could write a paragraph
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: and then you just and then they prove to themselves
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: that it's more fun and easy to write.
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: It It's like training a dog. Yeah, got a clicker,
- 1:07:41Speaker 3: spray them in the face. Hey, what was I going
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: to say? I think that. I guess that's all of
- 1:07:46Speaker 3: my thoughts on AI and I want a nightmare to
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: be a teacher.
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: Nowson was always a thing. We'd have to run our
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: essays through this program that would like check if we
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: copied either another student's essay in the database or like
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: an academic paper.
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: Yes, I what.
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: Was it called?
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: Recognized this during college? I think this was happening.
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: Yeah, it had a name.
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: But I guess that. I guess they have to have
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: something even more complicated now, Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: I heard AI uses dashes a lot, and like humans
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: don't oh interesting like the dash when.
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: I write dash A good m dash. Yeah, but I
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: almost use those more, you know, like corny ways, like
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: I think it looks funny sometimes.
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: Okay, like texting. I've seen it used. Interesting, But if
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: I was writing a paper right from like.
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: A fourteen year old's like yeah, dash is no, you
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: didn't do that. You would have used a period or
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: a comma incorrectly. Yes, wow, mad Vintage, we've saved your
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: career you're welcome, and so many students' minds. Yeah, so
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: many students' minds. Okay, well, I've got my backgammon set kit,
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: set kit. Yeah, briefcase, my backgammon briefcase, and I can't
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: wait to learn to play. I'm this is such a
- 1:09:00Speaker 3: nice thing. Yeah, what a gift. You know, occasionally there's
- 1:09:03Speaker 3: a gift on here. I'm like, wow, now that I
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: get to have that.
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I unfortunately prefer to be Ernest there.
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: Well, thank you for being here. That's such a nice time.
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: Thank you so much for having me listener. The podcast
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: is over. We'll do some clicking, some last minute Ooh
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: doesn't that sound nice? We'll send you off. I love you, goodbye.
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: I said, No Gifts is an exactly right production. Our
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: senior producer is on Alisa Nelson, and our episodes are
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: beautifully mixed by Ben Tolliday. The theme song is by
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: miracle worker Amy Mann, and we couldn't do it without
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: our booker, Patrick Cottner. You must follow the show on Instagram,
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: and I said, No Gifts, that's where you're going to
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: see pictures of all these wonderful gifts I'm getting. And
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: don't you want to see the gifts.
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: Here. I thought, I made myself perfectly clear. But you're,
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: I guess to my home. You gotta come to me empty.
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: And I said, no, guess, you're a presences presents enough
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: I already had too much stuff, So how do you
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: dare to surbey me
