- 0:51[SPEAKER_02]: Today, we're joined by America Young, creator of the Space Edit Reset.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_02]: A six-step system designed to help people understand how their physical environments shape their daily behavior, emotional regulation and leadership.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_02]: America's work challenges a common assumption.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_02]: that productivity, focus, and growth are purely mindset driven.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_02]: Instead, she reveals how our spaces quietly influence our habits, decisions, and even the way we show up for others.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_02]: Through her course and her upcoming book, she teaches practical immediate ways to reconstruct environments so they support clarity, steadiness, and intentional influence at home, and at work.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_02]: America, welcome to Daily Influence.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for having me America to start us off could you share a bit about your background and what led you to create the space edit reset system my background I come from two very different world so I have a history background in architecture a little bit in interior design and then also for a long time I worked on a private jet and on the private jet side everything had a purpose everything had a space you know in order to take off in the airplane if something wasn't put away then it became a projectile became
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: a safety hazard.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: So everything had a space and a purpose on the airplane.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_01]: And then when I was coming to work on design projects for people or even just interacting with family and friends, just realizing how much people's spaces they looked okay, but they weren't thriving in them.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: And it ended up these spaces that they were working against them, not for them.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_01]: These spaces had
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: They said that they needed to move or they needed to have a bigger home or even remodel and so when I collected those two things together, that's when I realize hey your space has to have purpose everything in it.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: Has to have purpose or your spaces are the working for you, like everything on the jet would or it's working against do like these spaces that I was finding so that's how the space that it reset came.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: First of all, it's it also started off as when I was working for clients with larger design projects.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: I would actually have them do the space edit reset before we ever met this way the room was entirely clear of what didn't belong so that we could address then.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: Then we could address things like.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: color texture layout and stuff like that.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_01]: So we need to address the real issue before we just went and put a bandaid on things and made it, you know, change the color, but we really need to change the purpose of the room.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that makes sense.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_02]: In the IN team series, we talk about individual responsibility as the foundation of responsible influence.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_02]: You describe environment as a silent leader.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_02]: How does taking ownership of our physical space reflect personal responsibility?
- 3:49[SPEAKER_02]: And how does that shape the way we lead ourselves and others?
- 3:53[SPEAKER_01]: So your space is leading you, whether you know it or not.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: The second that you walk in, your nervous system,
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: Is saying, okay, is this a great space to be in, is this space that's working against me, can I get something done in this space or do I need to adjust everything before I come in here.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: So when a room is overloaded or unclear, then your your nervous system stays activated and you think that, okay, well, I just have scattered thinking or, you know, your patience becomes less and you're not falling through consistency.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's when you need to decide, okay, what is this room really doing?
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: Is this room helping me be the leader that I, that I want to be or do I need to move all these things around before I can sit down and work on my project or influence somebody else, you know, maybe you have a regular group that comes to your home, you know, they're going to judge a room first and then link that to you and say, okay.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_01]: This room is really put together.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_01]: This person must be put together.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_01]: If I trust this room, then maybe I can trust this person a little bit more.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: So people's nervous systems, not just you words, but other people's nervous systems are walking in and seeing, okay, is this a good space or about space to be in?
- 5:10[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're talking about just leading yourself, the room is just leading you, that affects what you do on the outside.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: But if you have somebody coming in, it affects how they see you as a leader.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, one of the themes and responsible influences congruence in the alignment between who we say we are and how we show up, what role does physical space play environmental regulation, clarity, and that internal alignment that allows someone to lead consistently.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: So your space shows whether your standards are real or not.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_01]: If you say, hey, I'm very organized or, you know, I have this and this and this together in my life, somebody walks into your space.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_01]: They can tell what's truly important to you versus of what you're actually just spouting office, you know, as value.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: So they don't just hear your message.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_01]: They will experience it through, you know, how they walk through your space.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_01]: You will experience it, how you walk through your space.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_01]: So if your space is working against you, your influence will have friction.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: So this isn't just internal alignments.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's visual alignments, whether you're actually living out what you've created up.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_02]: Can you tell us about a moment or experience where you saw your work create a real shift in someone's life?
- 6:28[SPEAKER_02]: We're changing their environment led to a positive transformation in how they showed up.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: I did a project for,
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: a design studio we did the space that it resets.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: So it doesn't have to be just in your home.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: It can be in your professional environment and she had an Irish dance studio and her office area was open and exposed to everything else and it was overflowing with merchandise and paperwork and.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_01]: decorations and in dance uniforms.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it was it felt like an explosion when you walked in.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: And so, you know, they took her seriously as a dance professional, but when it came to the professional side, the money side things were very scattered and she's like, I need my business to go further, but when I come into my office area, I just, I don't know what to do.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_01]: So we found out, okay, what space, what purpose does this space need to have?
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: So then we cleared out everything that didn't belong and then we arranged everything not I think people get stuck on rearranging we need to figure out how things need to be arranged and so once we figured out how things need to be arranged to work for her and now against her then we were able to put what actually belonged back in the space and so it no longer was this mess that she'd just read it walking into but she could focus more on the dance teaching side.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_01]: And then when it came to the admin side, that made it so much easier for her to just get done what she needed to do and then get back to her students.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that really shows how some those changes can create ripple effects.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_02]: Many people want to grow an influence, but feel overwhelmed what one or two small structural changes could someone make in their home or workspace that immediately elevate focus decision making or self management.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_01]: The two most important things I would say would be to define what that space needs to be and clear everything out that does not support that function and then the second thing would be to create symmetry in that space and that's one thing that we talk about in a book so once you have that area defined.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: Then your nervous system also reacts to symmetry before it reacts to color or texture and things like that.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_01]: So if you have an office area, you know, once you clear everything out of there that does not support work, then take your desk and center it on that wall place artwork centered over the desk maybe to book shelf centered or flanked on either side.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_01]: So when you walk in your body automatically goes.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_01]: Ah, this is an amazing space to be in.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_01]: I can jump straight to work.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: Or if it's a bedroom center you're bed on the largest wall matching size nightstands on either side.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: You just want your eye to have symmetry.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_01]: So it knows that when it walks in, it doesn't have to fight anything.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_01]: Your eye doesn't have to look around and go where do I need to settle.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_01]: It can just walk in and say,
- 9:25[SPEAKER_01]: This is where I'm supposed to be.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_01]: So defining your space and clearing everything out that does not support that and creating symmetry around that.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that practical application is really what makes influence sustainable.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_02]: If you could go back and offer advice to your younger self about self leadership, environment, and influence, what would you share and how might that guidance help someone early in their journey today?
- 9:50[SPEAKER_01]: I would say being the center of gravity in your own life, I think we're taught to chase so many things, whether that's in the personal life or in business.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: What's latest trend?
- 10:00[SPEAKER_01]: What does somebody think of me?
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: What do I need to be doing?
- 10:03[SPEAKER_01]: What do you want?
- 10:05[SPEAKER_01]: You need to find the grounded purpose within your life, just like within the rooms with a space that it reset.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: You figure out what is the grounded purpose of this room.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_01]: And think about being more like a lighthouse.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_01]: A Lighthouse doesn't chase the boats.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_01]: So in life, stop chasing those things.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: Figure out what is your purpose?
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: Just like you figure out the purpose of this program, then you let everything else be attracted to you.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: And you consistently send out your message.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_01]: Instead of chasing, hey, I need to send a little bit to this message or a little bit of this message.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: On Lighthouse, it was a set of its own gravity and it sends out the same message repeatedly.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're trying to have influence
- 10:46[SPEAKER_01]: social media send out the same consistent message from your center of gravity from what you determine who you are and stop chasing whatever everybody else thinks.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_01]: Because the more your message is consistent just like if your room sends a consistent message then you're able to stay on track instead of getting distracted by what's in the room or getting distracted by what's the latest social media trend.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_02]: that's great advice.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_02]: As we close, our listeners aspire to make a positive and responsible difference in the world.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_02]: What message are words of encouragement?
- 11:20[SPEAKER_02]: Would you share with someone who wants to elevate their influence, but maybe overlooking the impact of their environment?
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: Your consistency in your message, your consistency in your home.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: So when you go to share your message, you know, you're trying to be consistent to the world out out there.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_01]: But if you
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: environment is not consistent and then you're constantly trying to rearrange something, you're constantly trying to clear out something before sending out that message.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_01]: So if you have can have consistency in your space and your message can then be consistent because then you are also consistent, your nervous system is also consistent.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're not fighting against your nervous system, if you're not fighting against your space, then everything else with your influence can remain consistent as well.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_02]: America, thank you for reminding us that influence isn't only about mindset, motivation, or even strategy, sometimes it begins with your environment, and our space is either reinforced distraction, and stress, or they reinforce clarity and intention.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_02]: And when we take responsibility for what surrounds us, we strengthen how we show up.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_02]: If our listeners want to get in touch with
- 12:37[SPEAKER_01]: thevividx.com, or my website is www.vividxhouse.com.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_02]: Great.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_02]: America, we'll put this information in this show notes.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you so much for joining us and sharing your stories and advice today.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you for your time.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_02]: And to our listeners, thank you for tuning into Daily Influence.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_02]: I hope today's conversation brought you inside an inspiration.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_02]: If it's spoke to you, share it with someone who could use a little positivity today.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_02]: Remember, influence starts with the eye, and sometimes the most powerful leadership decisions you can make is rearranging the space you operate in every single day.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_02]: Remember, small actions create big impact.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_02]: Keep showing up, leading, and growing one day to time.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_02]: Until next time, stay inspired and keep having a positive, responsible influence.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_02]: Bye-bye.
