Latest / Kenny Wallace Media / Chaim Bloom Will Take Over Cardinals Baseball Operations in 2026
Transcript
- 0:00The big news is so Heim Bloom will succeed John Mosaic as
- 0:05President of Baseball Operations starting in 2026 and will sign a
- 0:11five year contract. So that's 20262728 to 9:30,
- 0:16right, 678930 So five year contract for Heim Bloom.
- 0:22And I think we also knew going in that John Mosaic would not be
- 0:26stepping down from his role for 2025 as president of baseball
- 0:31operations. We got some people jumping in.
- 0:33By the way, let me know if you can hear me.
- 0:36Well, I know you can see me. Well, I got the glasses on.
- 0:38So this press conference, four people up there, Ali Marmol not
- 0:45on the dais, as we like to say. So it's Bill DeWitt, the third
- 0:49Cardinals team president, Bill DeWitt junior Cardinals chairman
- 0:53and CEO owner, John Mosaic, of course, Cardinals president of
- 0:59baseball operations and Heim Bloom, who I don't know exactly
- 1:03what his title is going to be for 2025.
- 1:05But basically the big news was he will oversee, they called it
- 1:10a reset, an overhaul, whatever you want to call it, of the
- 1:14Cardinals player development for 2025.
- 1:17And then if you're just joining us, Heimbloom taking over as
- 1:20president of baseball operations, succeeding John
- 1:23Mosaic in 2026 on A5 year contract.
- 1:29Some other news, Michael Gersh will now be the VP of special
- 1:34projects. So remember before that he was
- 1:37the general manager. Now, I don't think I missed
- 1:40this, but I don't think they named who would be the other
- 1:45general manager. I'm not sure that even matters
- 1:48right now. And the press conference just
- 1:50ended. So basically MO staying.
- 1:55Part of the reason MO is staying on and look, clearly he also
- 2:00wants to stay on, but that allows Heim bloom.
- 2:02This is the Cardinals, by the way, this is the Cardinal saying
- 2:05this. So I'll give my opinion on it in
- 2:06a bit. But MO staying on so that Heim
- 2:09can really oversee that reset and overhaul in 2025 and really
- 2:15focus on that and then he'll be the chief decision maker in
- 2:192026. So couple other highlights here
- 2:22before I give my opinion. John Mosaic did say he'd
- 2:27anticipate payroll going down for 2025 as they reallocate a
- 2:34lot of these resources from the Major League payroll to
- 2:39investing in the overhaul of the minor league system.
- 2:44Bill DeWitt, the third team present also just 'cause we're
- 2:47having fun. Beautiful head of hair now.
- 2:50Bill DeWitt the 3rd, right? Beautiful head of hair.
- 2:53I did notice that BW3 also said that the the local media
- 2:59landscape is a new challenge for them.
- 3:02So everybody knows what's going on with, with Bally's and moving
- 3:07forward with the Cardinals. Will they control all of that
- 3:10television distribution themselves?
- 3:12We'll see about that. So there's another thing in
- 3:15terms of you're used to getting the checks coming in from
- 3:17valleys for the last several years.
- 3:20And I, I do think long term, it's better for the Cardinals if
- 3:23they're going to own their own deal in terms of streaming and
- 3:26television. But for a couple years, you got
- 3:28to think that's a pretty heavy investment monetarily.
- 3:33BW3 also mentioned he's hoping, as I am as well, that sports
- 3:37gambling passes and that could be another positive revenue
- 3:41stream for for all the sports franchises in the state,
- 3:46including your Saint Louis Cardinals.
- 3:49Bill DeWitt Junior, the owner was asked about.
- 3:54Basically, this was Derek Gould saying, you know, what kind of
- 3:57message was sent by the Cardinals fans not showing up. 3
- 4:02million. And it was what it was.
- 4:04It was 2.85 million. But there were a lot of no shows
- 4:07in there too. Whatever the sold tickets was.
- 4:10I mean, there were there were games where only half the people
- 4:12actually showed up. And so they'll do it.
- 4:15Junior said if he was a fan, he'd actually be excited about
- 4:18the future. And sometimes change is good
- 4:21little spin cycle there, but I get it.
- 4:26And then MO was talking about the fact that they need an
- 4:30overhaul in their minor league development.
- 4:33And these aren't direct quotes, but I just made some notes here.
- 4:36And he said something along the lines of it's not that they
- 4:39weren't doing it right from a development standpoint, but just
- 4:43that things change. Well, in my opinion, if things
- 4:47change, you have to change with them or you have to be ahead of
- 4:51the curve. So clearly the Cardinals weren't
- 4:53doing things right. If you have to have a major
- 4:56overhaul of the entire minor league system here coming up for
- 5:002025 and you're you're admitting that you're going to decrease
- 5:04your Major League payroll, which I'm sure fans don't like hearing
- 5:07at all. But I want to hear from you guys
- 5:09too, because I do think they're finally taking the steps to
- 5:13change this. I'm sure, I'm sure the headline
- 5:16for fans is, well, why is John Mosaic staying around?
- 5:20And I think that's very fair. Why are you allowing the guy who
- 5:26who basically is responsible for what happened to the franchise
- 5:30the last several years, Why are you letting him stay on to, to
- 5:35oversee even for a year this, this big change?
- 5:39And look, if they're, if they're decreasing payroll at the Major
- 5:42League level, don't you think we've already, we've already
- 5:45heard the Katie Wu report that the Cardinals are not expected
- 5:50to resign. Paul Goldschman, don't you think
- 5:52there's going to be some trades coming?
- 5:54I don't know who, but if you're talking about decreasing
- 5:57payroll, if you're talking about starting to really build and
- 6:00develop around your young core, look, you got option guys like
- 6:05Lance Lynn, Kyle Gibson probably not coming back.
- 6:10You got to think Eric Fetty's pretty cheap.
- 6:13Sonny Gray makes a lot of money, but he's pretty damn good.
- 6:15But look at the Nolan Arenado's of the world, $35 million.
- 6:19And let's be real, too, when you make a signal to the fan base
- 6:24and to the clubhouse that you're really not going to try to win
- 6:30all out 2025. And by the way, I don't think
- 6:32the Cardinals will be bad in 2025.
- 6:34But no one, Arenado is not young.
- 6:36So I thought even before this news, Nolan Arenado would
- 6:40probably floated out there to his agent that a, it's time to
- 6:44maybe move on. And so I wouldn't be shocked at
- 6:47all if Nolan Arenado's traded this offseason.
- 6:50Now, he's also not super productive.
- 6:54He's not bad, don't get me wrong.
- 6:55But we're talking about a $35 million contract.
- 6:57So I would think the Cardinals would have to eat some salary if
- 7:00that's the case. But there's some there's some
- 7:02big name, big money guys who probably don't want to be around
- 7:07for a rebuild. I'm just speculating here, but I
- 7:09would think Arenado, Sonny Gray, we shall see Wilson Contreras,
- 7:14we shall see. These guys are all in their 30s,
- 7:18mid 30s. Do they want to be around for a
- 7:20rebuild? Which by the way, I don't think
- 7:22it's going to take that long. I'm I'm excited about the
- 7:25Cardinals young position players.
- 7:28If you look at 2026, you'd think that's the year that the Quinn
- 7:32Matthews, the Tink henses of the world are really ready to
- 7:35contribute at the the big league level.
- 7:38So all right, I've talked for about 8 minutes here.
- 7:41I want to hear from you guys as well.
- 7:43But I think the very fair criticism is, well, why is MO
- 7:48allowed to stay on and oversee this?
- 7:53And, and here's the deal. I've said this a million times.
- 7:55I think I'm very fair. I think John Mosaic was very
- 7:58good for this organization the 1st 10 years or so.
- 8:01The last five to seven years clearly has not been as good.
- 8:05There's been a real fall off record wise the last couple
- 8:08years and in terms of a real chance of, of making the
- 8:11playoffs. And look, if you're basically
- 8:15saying here that at the end of John Mosaic's tenure, his his
- 8:21final season, essentially that you need to reset, overhaul,
- 8:25whatever the word is, your entire minor league development
- 8:30situation. Look, John Mosaic is the
- 8:33president of baseball operations.
- 8:35That right there is a huge indictment of what's been going
- 8:39on in the baseball OPS department for the last several
- 8:42years. If in this man's final offseason
- 8:47and then final season 2025, you have to take monies away from
- 8:52the big league payroll and totally, completely overhaul
- 8:56your minor league development, I don't know what else you can say
- 8:59in terms of how things are going right.
- 9:01And that's where, look, I like MO.
- 9:04He's been good to me personally. I try to be very fair when he
- 9:07says it's not that we weren't doing it right from a
- 9:11development standpoint. Well, no, you weren't.
- 9:13You weren't doing it right, and that's pretty clear.
- 9:15You didn't have the resources allocated you.
- 9:19You fell off from that drafting and developing machine that the
- 9:23Cardinals were for the 1st 10 years or so.
- 9:27And look, Jeff Luno gets a lot of credit, but also John Mosaic
- 9:29gets credit. Bill do it.
- 9:31Junior gets credit. I gave everybody credit back
- 9:33then when the Cardinals were doing really, really well and
- 9:35they were churning out Major League players just year after
- 9:40year, pitchers, especially starters, relievers.
- 9:43That has not been the case the last couple years.
- 9:46And then also just in terms of evaluating talent, clearly the
- 9:49Cardinals have lost their fastball, pun intended, in terms
- 9:53of who to keep, who to trade away.
- 9:55When the trade guys, how many? Seems like 8 different
- 9:59outfielders have been traded away and then they're good
- 10:03somewhere else. And the guys the Cardinals often
- 10:05keep, they keep them so long they no longer have any value.
- 10:09And you're essentially trading these guys for a bucket of for a
- 10:11bucket of baseballs, whether it's Tyler O'Neill, Dylan
- 10:14Carlson, whatever it is. I also thought it was
- 10:16interesting that Alimar Mole was not there on the dais.
- 10:20This was more of a of an ownership front office type
- 10:24press conference. I also, I just wonder, I want to
- 10:27hear from you fans, is this enough?
- 10:29Is this enough substantive change?
- 10:31I know you guys are pissed off and you're rightfully so pissed
- 10:34off. Is this enough substantive
- 10:36change for you to be OK with the direction of the Cardinals with
- 10:39MO coming back, even though it's one year they've announced
- 10:42Heinbloom. I think Heinbloom being
- 10:44announced as the pobo for five years in 2026, I think is
- 10:48fantastic news. Coaching staff changes.
- 10:53Looks like we're not going to have any, which I think you I
- 10:56think you have to basically switch out the the offensive
- 11:00coaching staff. Sure seems like Alimar Mole is
- 11:02going to be back. I'm not as as mad about that one
- 11:06probably as a lot of you guys are.
- 11:07Because look, if if you're overhauling the minors in 2025
- 11:12and you're not necessarily really going for it from a Major
- 11:15League standpoint, does it really matter who your manager
- 11:19is, right? I don't think Alimar Mole is
- 11:21great. I don't think he's terrible.
- 11:23But if you're if you're already setting this whole deal in
- 11:26motion for a, for a huge reset really in 2026, the reset is
- 11:31starting now at the minor league level, but the reset is really
- 11:35starting 2026. That is when Hein Bloom will be
- 11:39the chief decision maker. And so then that also gives him
- 11:43another year to evaluate Ali, to evaluate the coaching staff.
- 11:47Although I just wanted to say I think you should, I think you
- 11:49should change out the offensive coaching staff right now
- 11:52especially. But Turner Ward was Paul
- 11:55Goldsmith's guy and whatever they were doing offensively, not
- 11:59working, not working at all. I don't think anybody would
- 12:03disagree with that one right there.
- 12:05But so I, I don't think it's that big of a deal that Alimar
- 12:09Mole is coming back. Now if, if in 2026 Heimbloom
- 12:15takes over, he might say, look, I want to start with my own guy.
- 12:19And and also look, maybe the Cardinals make some positive
- 12:22steps in 2025. Maybe this young core
- 12:26offensively starts to blossom. Who knows, with a Mcgreevy, with
- 12:32a Graceffo, whoever, whatever happens with a Zach Thompson,
- 12:37Andre Polante, you know, maybe, maybe this team isn't that bad
- 12:41next year. I don't think the the team is
- 12:42going to be that bad, but but could they then get a bigger
- 12:46name manager if the team looks like they're potentially in the
- 12:50direction to winning in 2026 and you got some guys like Tink
- 12:55Hence and Quinn Matthews ready to contribute, You got to think
- 13:00those guys are going to contribute a little bit next
- 13:02year in 2025. S Look, I've said this a million
- 13:05times. I thought I, I didn't think John
- 13:09Mosaic necessarily had to step down, but I think announcing
- 13:13Heinbloom was great. I would have, I would have
- 13:16basically to, to quell fan disappointment, I would have
- 13:21said it kind of like, hey, this is going to be a timeshare of
- 13:24brain trust between Heimbloom and John Mosaic for 2025.
- 13:29I would have said something like that.
- 13:31I think that makes the fans a little happier.
- 13:33I know you fans want John Mosaic gone all together, most of you,
- 13:37a huge percentage. I put it out there on a Twitter
- 13:39poll and I know Twitter is not a scientific poll and but look,
- 13:43that that's a fairpoint to make if you're going to trade a bunch
- 13:47of players, right? Why are you letting John Mosaic
- 13:51oversee those trades if he's not going to be there in 2026 if
- 13:56Hein Bloom is taking over? And oh, by the way, you don't,
- 13:59you don't trust John Mosaic anymore to make those big
- 14:02trades. Remember, they already did the
- 14:03big the big sell off last year at the trade deadline.
- 14:07So these are all really good points questions which I'm
- 14:09guessing you're going to have. So I've run my mouth for 15
- 14:13minutes. I have about till three O 5.
- 14:18So I will go to your guys questions now.
- 14:20Here we go. Let's see my guy chiefs 15.
- 14:25At least we know the end is near.
- 14:27Well, we knew that with MO. I think the most important
- 14:30thing, the most important thing is that they announced Heimbloom
- 14:33is taking over for five years starting in 2026 and I think
- 14:37that's a big positive. This is one of the smartest guys
- 14:39in baseball. He was a huge part of the Tampa
- 14:42Bay Rays winning at a high level without a lot of resources and
- 14:46he basically fell right into your lap right in the middle of
- 14:49the succession plan. So I don't I don't know how you
- 14:52could be disappointed about that if you're a Cardinals fan.
- 14:55Let's see. So heartbeat productions man
- 15:00took his notes. That's right, baby, look at
- 15:01this. Look at my notes.
- 15:04Been looking forward to this five years of Heim where the
- 15:07first year he isn't pobo. No, the way I heard it was Heinz
- 15:11going to sign a five year contract when he's pobo.
- 15:15That's the way I heard it. So that would be 2627282930.
- 15:19I'm pretty sure HB cards tone deaf.
- 15:24Yeah, I get it. So a lot of you guys think that
- 15:26by keeping Mosaic lock, by letting him run the show for one
- 15:29more year, it's tone deaf to allow him to oversee this this
- 15:34overhaul for the last year. I get it.
- 15:36I totally get it. I put this on Twitter earlier.
- 15:40HB cards. Good luck selling tickets.
- 15:43Yeah, BW3 didn't say they're going to try to spruce things up
- 15:47for the the ballpark entertainment aspect of being
- 15:51there. I don't know, you guys.
- 15:52Tell me, what do you think? I mean, I understand how you
- 15:57maybe aren't super happy with 2025.
- 15:59Are you not going to come to the ballpark?
- 16:02Are you more likely not to come to the ballpark after today's
- 16:05news? Right.
- 16:07And remember going in, it was essentially reported that John
- 16:10Mosaic was not going to lose his job.
- 16:12So you tell me. I think at least they're they're
- 16:16starting this big overhaul. They're getting the ball
- 16:19rolling. I think John Mosaic should have
- 16:21either stepped down or taken a different role or also maybe
- 16:26just couched couched this situation differently or
- 16:30discussed it differently in terms of hey, this is going to
- 16:32be a a timeshare between myself and hime for the next year.
- 16:37I understand why fans are not happy with John Mosaic being
- 16:40around for 2025. I totally get it.
- 16:44Let's see Don Farris terrible for the short bus kids.
- 16:49They were saying full scale rebuild.
- 16:54OK, we don't have to say short bus.
- 16:56Come on now, Brett. I'm preparing myself emotionally
- 17:00to not getting to see Arenado, Gray, Contreras or even Helsley
- 17:04in a Cardinals jersey again. Yeah, I think makes a ton of
- 17:07sense to move Ryan Helsley. The reliever market.
- 17:11Super volatile guys can be great.
- 17:14Guys get injured. He's going to make a ton of
- 17:17money next year in arbitration. You're already saying you're
- 17:19going to decrease payroll. Why do you need a big name
- 17:22closer if you're not going to be all in to win, especially if you
- 17:26can get a huge haul for Ryan Helsley?
- 17:29I would say it makes total sense, total sense to trade Ryan
- 17:33Helsley. I'm still in the camp that it
- 17:35didn't make sense for the Cardinals to to sell off at this
- 17:38year's trade deadline. You were too close.
- 17:40You you had a shot. You have to go for it.
- 17:42I understand if you disagree with me.
- 17:44I understand you could have got a huge haul for Ryan Helsley a
- 17:47couple months ago. But I think after last year it
- 17:49still made sense. And look, it was weird because
- 17:52the Cardinals played like crap in August.
- 17:56They also had a really tough schedule.
- 17:58Then they go off in September, they went off in September, beat
- 18:01a bunch of good teams. I was there at the end winning
- 18:03series against the Guardians. So it wasn't like this team
- 18:06didn't have a chance to grab a wild card spot.
- 18:09They just look, you had that couple good games, there's some
- 18:13some vibes, Eric Fetty, Tommy Pham and then you played a bunch
- 18:16of good teams in August, couldn't beat them.
- 18:18But then you go on a nice run in September and you finish your
- 18:22pretty strong at 83 wins. I'm not saying that's OK, but I
- 18:27get why the Cardinals tried to go for a wild card spot at the
- 18:31trade deadline and I still think that was the right move.
- 18:34Let's see Prezzo, Carter, Much Ado about nothing smoke screens
- 18:38all over, let's see Tyler Jarabek.
- 18:43Unpopular opinion, but I think letting Bloom focus on resetting
- 18:46the development program while MO focuses on building the Major
- 18:49League roster is the correct move.
- 18:50Yeah, I get that. I understand that.
- 18:53I don't. I don't think that's the worst
- 18:54thing in the world. Let Heim for one full year
- 18:56totally focus on the complete overhaul of the minor leagues.
- 19:02But again, if if you're if you're not loving John Mosaic's
- 19:06decision making for the last five years or so, what if they
- 19:09do trade Gray? What if they trade Helsley?
- 19:12What if they trade Arnotto Contreras or a couple of those
- 19:16guys, Probably not all, but a couple of those guys.
- 19:19Do you want MO making those trades?
- 19:21I got to think Heimbloom is going to have a big, a big
- 19:24impact in that in that room as well.
- 19:27But I get it. I, I said a million times I
- 19:30thought John Mosaic should have stepped down.
- 19:33I also don't hate this strategy, though.
- 19:35I, I think it was a big move. It was a big move announcing
- 19:38Heimbloom for me. I'm pretty rational.
- 19:41I'm pretty reasonable. I'm OK with it, even though I'll
- 19:44say for the 5000 TH time, I thought MO should step down or
- 19:48or take a different role. Here we go.
- 19:51Tyler Jarabek again. The payroll announcement is a
- 19:53bit alarming, probably puts everyone from Gray Arenado
- 19:56Contreras to Michaelis and Matt's on the block.
- 19:59Yeah, I mean Michaelis and Matt's though, I mean, you have
- 20:02to basically you have to eat a lot of salary to move those
- 20:05guys. But look, if you want to give
- 20:07opportunities, who do you want to see in the rotation next
- 20:11year? Let's say you move all the big
- 20:13contracts. So let's say you keep Fetty
- 20:16around, Fetty's making 7 1/2, although maybe Fetty is a better
- 20:20guy to move because the contract is so manageable, you can get
- 20:23more prospects in return, right? So next year you want to see
- 20:28Palante, Obviously, you want to see Mcgreevy get a look.
- 20:32I think it's too early for 10 Kent and Quinn Matthews, but we
- 20:35shall see. Then some of these other guys
- 20:37that we always hear about, Graceffo, Zach Thompson,
- 20:41Libator. Do you want to see Libator get a
- 20:42shot in the rotation? Has that ship sailed?
- 20:46I guess for next year. Nothing is sailed for next year.
- 20:49If you're essentially saying you're not really trying to win,
- 20:52then I'm OK if you move some of those big names.
- 20:55I'm OK with giving Libator one last shot at the rotation and
- 20:59then that's it. And if he doesn't blossom as a
- 21:01starter, then just permanently move him to the bullpen.
- 21:03If if 2025 doesn't really really matter, let's see, here we go.
- 21:10Jeffrey Sawzek. I'm saying under 2.5 million
- 21:14tickets sold next year. Yeah, that's definitely a
- 21:16possibility. Mt 2330, lol.
- 21:21They literally never can admit any mistakes, like ever.
- 21:23It's crazy. Yeah, I agree with that.
- 21:25I mean, come on, MO MO, when you say it's not that we weren't
- 21:28doing it right from a development standpoint, well,
- 21:30that's exactly what it was. And you were doing it right back
- 21:33in the day. So what?
- 21:35You can't have it both ways. You were not doing it right from
- 21:38a player development standpoint. That's why you have to totally
- 21:41overhaul and reset your entire operations here.
- 21:44Come on now. I agree.
- 21:45There's one thing to to, you know, be your promo marketing
- 21:50department, but also at this point, I, I think we can shoot
- 21:52straight with the Cardinals fans, especially after the last
- 21:54couple years this week in Missouri politics.
- 21:59That's my guy, Scott Fawn. The day they extended Marmol
- 22:03last spring, the 24 season was over.
- 22:05It was a complete embrace of failure.
- 22:07Today, the 25 season is over again, a complete embrace of
- 22:11failure. Yeah, I said the whole time.
- 22:15I didn't say last year necessarily you had to fire
- 22:17Ollie. I was not for the extension.
- 22:19And if they move on from Ollie, here's another thing.
- 22:23Would Skip Schumacher want this job right now when you're
- 22:26starting a full on minor league rebuild?
- 22:29We know Skip Schumacher, who loves Saint Louis, but a lot of
- 22:33good teams are going to want that guy.
- 22:34He's going to be the the hottest free agent manager out there,
- 22:38even though he loves Saint Louis, which we know, but he's
- 22:40also a California dude, right? And probably the biggest teams
- 22:44with the biggest payrolls are going to want this guy.
- 22:47We'll see what happens with the playoffs.
- 22:50That's the thing. If you could get Skip, would you
- 22:52move Ollie to Skip? Want to come here for a rebuild?
- 22:56I don't know. We shall see, folks.
- 23:00Here we go. Mike at Tyler, who would
- 23:02possibly take Matt's or Michaelis.
- 23:04They're still arms. I mean, look, people need
- 23:07pitching, but they're not going to take that salary.
- 23:09You're going to eat a ton of the salary.
- 23:11What's Michaelis making 18 1/2? Matt's is AAV is 11.
- 23:15I don't know exactly what it is for for next year, but it's
- 23:17something. It's something in that realm.
- 23:21Let's see Mike at Nathan Rector in that case, it won't help
- 23:24decrease payroll much. I think that'll be fascinating
- 23:29of who they move again. Maybe Sonny Gray wants to stick
- 23:33around for this rebuild. I don't know.
- 23:38Michaelis Matts, those guys, they're, they're not good enough
- 23:41to really kind of control their destiny right now.
- 23:44And it would be nice to open up some spots for some, for some
- 23:47young, some younger pitchers. Wilson Contreras, I don't have a
- 23:51good vibe on him. And you got no trade clauses for
- 23:54some of these guys. I got to think, and I said this
- 23:57even before I got to think, Nolan Arenado wants out.
- 24:01I think Nolan Arenado right now is kicking himself that he
- 24:05didn't opt out couple years ago or at least get more money from
- 24:10the Cardinals. I can't believe he didn't opt
- 24:13out. And I'm sorry that dude already.
- 24:15He worked his way out of Colorado when they were losing.
- 24:19You essentially have all of ownership and the front office
- 24:21saying right now we're not really trying to win in 2025.
- 24:25Again, they won't tank, but Nolan Aronado is how?
- 24:27How old is he? Is he 3334?
- 24:29Whatever he is, there's no way in hell Nolan Aronado wants to
- 24:33stick around. I'm just saying that right now,
- 24:35there's no way in hell. I don't care what he says
- 24:37publicly. There's no way in hell he he has
- 24:40maybe what, 2-3 years left? How old is Nolan Aronado?
- 24:43I should know this. Is he like 33?
- 24:45I know he's paid for a a few more years here, but I'm sorry,
- 24:49there's no way no one Arenado wants to stick around for what's
- 24:53going on with the Cardinals. But again, so he's 33, he'll be
- 24:5834 next April. His contract is he here for four
- 25:04more years? Let me check it here.
- 25:08Let me check it peoples. Trying to get you information,
- 25:11right, trying to get you some information up-to-the-minute
- 25:16salaries, no one Arnato. OK, so three more years.
- 25:22So Arnato made 35,000,000 this year.
- 25:25He'll make OK. So look, it's not it's not as
- 25:32big of money as you thought. 32,000,000 for 202527 million
- 25:39for 2020, six, $15 million for 2027.
- 25:44So if I add that up, that's 5969, that's 74 million owed
- 25:48Nolan Arenado for the next three seasons.
- 25:52That's that's less than $25 million AAV.
- 25:56And also the Rockies are paying 5 million of that in 25 and 26.
- 26:02So look, I was thinking he's making 35,000,000 a year, which
- 26:06he was up until this year. So, so look, he's not a $35
- 26:11million player anymore, but that's a little more manageable
- 26:14in terms of moving, moving that contract.
- 26:16So I would think Nolan Arnato is gone.
- 26:19If I had to bet money, and I like to bet Nolan Arnato is not
- 26:22a Saint Louis Cardinal for 2025. There ain't no way he wants to
- 26:26stick around. Here we go.
- 26:29Rob Sheehan play the young guys. Gone is Contreras, Goldie, Sonny
- 26:33and Nolan. Dump Miles.
- 26:35His stuff doesn't play. His ERA is so bad, Tyler, again,
- 26:40Michaelis and Matt's aren't going to moves that get us
- 26:43anything to help us win immediately or probably even
- 26:45down the road. Literally just a salary dump to
- 26:47get dead weight off the roster. Yeah, and also give younger guys
- 26:50an opportunity. I know you didn't get a huge
- 26:52opportunity, but don't you want to at least see?
- 26:55Don't you want to see Mcgreevy get an opportunity to start?
- 26:57See what you have? Whatever the hell happens with
- 27:01Graceffo, I'll repeat myself. I'm OK with Liberatore getting
- 27:04one last shot if next year doesn't really matter.
- 27:08So space magic Storm. Disappointed in this presser.
- 27:12Like glad they're working on the farm system, but disappointing
- 27:15nonetheless. My guy.
- 27:18Scott, is it just me or did DeWitt seem like a guy in
- 27:21another universe? It was just bizarre to see him
- 27:23rambling on about how great things are when this team and
- 27:27organization is awful. Yeah, I hear you for forgetting
- 27:33or or not admitting any type of mistakes.
- 27:37And yeah, it did seem like they were really kind of stuck in the
- 27:40past, like, hey, this isn't this isn't that big of a deal.
- 27:44We weren't doing anything wrong. And they were even asked about
- 27:47that. I can't remember who asked them
- 27:49about, you know, when did you start to see that you had fallen
- 27:52behind, you know, years ago. And and I think it was Bill
- 27:55DeWitt, Junior said, well, I wouldn't say it was as many
- 27:57years ago as more recent, but look, just go back to some of
- 28:01the trades. Ozuna trade, Rosa Raina trade
- 28:05and also just all the outfielders not developing all
- 28:09these guys, these these top picks in terms of outfielders
- 28:14and look, give him credit for Mason Wynn and Alec Burleson and
- 28:17large Nuke bar and Brendan Donovan.
- 28:19There's a lot of there's a lot of good ones, but again arose
- 28:23Arena and I know Dolis Garcia, but Tyler O'Neill and Dylan
- 28:28Carlson having to trade those guys with with no value when
- 28:32years ago you could have got a haul for those guys.
- 28:35Not being able to figure out who's good, who isn't.
- 28:37That's what MO used to do really well early on.
- 28:40Early on he made no bad trades. Remember even flipping Brett
- 28:43Wallace, flipping Brett Wallace essentially for Matt Holiday and
- 28:47that was a great move. Brett Wallace didn't turn into
- 28:49much, all due respect, but look at what would have happened now.
- 28:52Brett Wallace would have been another name thrown in the
- 28:55bucket If, if Brett Wallace was a pick three years ago, he would
- 28:58have been like the sixth guy that they didn't trade when they
- 29:02should have. That stayed forever and then you
- 29:04had to trade him for a bucket of balls.
- 29:06That would have happened if Brett Wallace was a pick five
- 29:08years ago. That's what never happened to
- 29:10Mosaic and the Cardinals. What, 15 years ago, 12 years
- 29:14ago, 10 years ago, whenever it was Teresa Campbell.
- 29:19I've never seen the Cards in a slump like this.
- 29:23My guy Gino MO's legacy will be the fact he trashed maybe the
- 29:27best player development minor league system under George
- 29:29Kissel and brought the team to a point where the major and minor
- 29:32leagues are garbage. Yeah, yeah, look again.
- 29:39If you need a major overhaul of your entire minor league
- 29:42organization in your final year, in your final offseason as
- 29:46president of baseball operations, that is a huge
- 29:49indictment. There is no other way around
- 29:52that. There's really no other way to
- 29:53say that. So here we go.
- 29:57Prezzo Carter already floating the trade of Walker.
- 30:00What? Just a bunch of idiotic behavior
- 30:02in this organization. Who's floating that?
- 30:04There ain't no way they're trading Jordan Walker.
- 30:07Then again, what if Jordan Walker's another one of the
- 30:09outfielders that stays too long and never actually turns out?
- 30:13I hope to God that's not the case.
- 30:15I'm a big Jordan Walker fan. Also, first base Goldie's not
- 30:19coming back. Burleson first, Walker.
- 30:22Is he an outfielder? Is he a first baseman?
- 30:24Long term? Big boy, big dude. 6667 going to
- 30:29be about two 65270. I don't know, Mike.
- 30:33I don't generally have a big problem with Bill Junior, but I
- 30:36disagree with most of what he said today.
- 30:37Then again, he's the billionaire, not me.
- 30:40Hey, just because he's a billionaire doesn't mean that
- 30:43he's always right. And again, like there was a lot
- 30:45of marketing up there. Let's be real about that.
- 30:48There was a lot of marketing. There's a lot of promotions.
- 30:50There was a lot of PR is the word I'm looking for.
- 30:53There's a lot of public relations going on.
- 30:55I agree with the earlier commenter who said this team
- 30:59just refuses to admit mistakes. Even with this whole press
- 31:02conference and Heimbloom and everything is a huge admission
- 31:07of the mistakes you made for the past 5-7 years that really came
- 31:12out at the big league level the last couple years.
- 31:14But yes. And they were, they weren't even
- 31:16really admitting that, right? They were tap dancing around
- 31:20that. And oh, you know, it's not that
- 31:21we didn't do things right. And oh, it's only been a couple
- 31:23years. No, it's it's been a, it's been
- 31:25a downward trend for several years, for several years.
- 31:29But the Cardinals were also so good years ago.
- 31:33I'm talking that 11 to 15 run even when a lot of these other
- 31:36guys left, you know, however much you want to allocate what
- 31:40Luno was responsible for and he was really good, let's be real.
- 31:43But the My Link system was so good that they were good for
- 31:46another five years, whatever it was, because so many guys were
- 31:50in place. And you had Yachty staying here
- 31:51for 20 years. You had Adam Wainwright staying
- 31:54here for for 20 years. You had Matt Carpenter for a
- 31:57long time. You had a lot of guys that that
- 31:59stuck around for a long, long time.
- 32:03Let's see. Tyler Jarabek Gersh is VP of
- 32:06Halfway Out the Door. Yeah, that that sounded like it
- 32:10sounded like a demotion. Gersh, VP of special projects.
- 32:14So we'll see if they name a general manager this year.
- 32:17I don't know if it really matters.
- 32:18You know, back in the day, the general manager was the chief
- 32:20decision maker. Now it's the president of
- 32:22baseball operations. I didn't hear anything about
- 32:25Randy Flores, so we'll see what happens there.
- 32:30Josh Humphreys. It was all Jeff Luno.
- 32:32And I'd rather have Goldie back than MO and Ollie.
- 32:35Yeah, look, Jeff Luno was huge. I still give, I give MO a lot of
- 32:38credit. You gotta give everybody a lot
- 32:40of credit back in the day. But Jeff Luno surely gets a lot
- 32:42of it. But I'm not this person that's
- 32:45now doing revisionist history and saying MO wasn't good for a
- 32:47long time. And I think MO was good for a
- 32:50long time. And even if he had good
- 32:51lieutenants underneath them, right?
- 32:53I mean, give credit to him and the Cardinals and the Dewitt's
- 32:56and Jacketies for having all those people in place and
- 32:59listening to them. Also, Brendan Fauci, I don't
- 33:04understand why both Ollie and Moore are sticking around.
- 33:06It's almost like they hate this city and don't listen to 90% of
- 33:09their customers, The fans. Again, I'm not, I'm not real
- 33:13mad. I'm not mad at all about the
- 33:15Ollie thing, just because I think if you want to move on
- 33:19from the manager, you do it in 2026, right?
- 33:22I mean, who are you going to get?
- 33:23Who are you going to get to sign up for this rebuild?
- 33:26Unless it's Skip. I would I would move on for Skip
- 33:30if I'm skip, I don't want to be a part of this rebuild if I have
- 33:33big, big winning franchises, big payrolls, big contenders, teams
- 33:38that are much closer to contention in the Cardinals to
- 33:41win a World Series or run deep. I got Gino again.
- 33:46Shield was the last Kissel disciple and tried to save this
- 33:48organization, but MO clearly can't see the forest for the
- 33:51trees. Is it for the trees or through
- 33:53the trees? I never know that one.
- 33:55And fired him because he wasn't a yes man.
- 33:57Yeah, I think there's some truth to that as well.
- 34:01Look, I I think Schilt, you know, you heard some reports of
- 34:04some treatment of staff, but also I think I think Schilt was
- 34:08always seen as the low level guy.
- 34:11You know, I've heard other people talk about this some
- 34:13sometimes they say you never want to, you never want to stay
- 34:16with the company you were an intern with because people will
- 34:19always look at you as the intern, right?
- 34:21Schulte was always the minor league guy, lucky, happy to be
- 34:25there, never played in the bigs, not a lot of experience.
- 34:27Then he started to win and then he gets to the major leagues,
- 34:29just happy to be the manager. Then he wins, gets some
- 34:32playoffs, Manager of the year, NLCS.
- 34:35He thought he had some juice in the organization.
- 34:37He didn't because it was MO's way or the highway.
- 34:41And look, there's more to that story, but how does it look now?
- 34:45It looks like Schulte's in a better spot for sure, as the
- 34:48Padres go to the playoffs in the Cardinals.
- 34:51Do not for the second straight year.
- 34:54I asked this earlier, Is this enough?
- 34:56Not at all. Yeah, I get that.
- 34:58I get that. It's just enough for me.
- 35:01I'm not going to go crazy. But I I'll say for the eight
- 35:03thousandth time, I think John Mosaic should have stepped
- 35:07aside. But I don't hate what they're
- 35:10doing. The Heimbloom succession plan I
- 35:13love. If you're going to have to
- 35:15overhaul the miners, let Heim do it.
- 35:18But also, if you don't trust John Mosaic to make these big
- 35:21trades and big decisions in the last year, let's let Heim bloom
- 35:24and let's let the brain trust all jump in there and have it be
- 35:27a collective. OK, here we go, Tyler.
- 35:32Again, another unpopular opinion, but I don't think Ali
- 35:35was the problem this year. The offense completely
- 35:37underperformed and I know the record of the last two years
- 35:39falls on him, but his game management wasn't bad.
- 35:42Yeah, he was not the main issue. That's why I would I would get
- 35:46rid of the offensive coaching staff over Ollie.
- 35:49I would say, look, let's let's see if some new voices, some new
- 35:53eyes offensively. What were they there?
- 35:56OPS was like, we looked this up there today.
- 35:59Was it like 20th or 22nd or 23rd, something like that,
- 36:02Whatever it was, So bottom quartile or bottom third.
- 36:05But runners in scoring position, they were just atrocious,
- 36:08absolutely atrocious. And they started the year so
- 36:10bad. They dug themselves such a hole.
- 36:13That was the big part of this year.
- 36:14The offense sucked so bad in the first month and it was like the
- 36:18whole team was in a slump and nobody could get could get out
- 36:21of it right. Where's the coaching staff to
- 36:23help get these guys out of it? That did not take place.
- 36:26And that's one of the the big reasons you were basically
- 36:28trying to claw your way back for the whole season.
- 36:31You had the good month or so, what good two 2 1/2 weeks in
- 36:34May. Then you had this nice stretch
- 36:36at the end of the season in September when it really didn't
- 36:38matter, let's be real. But the rest of the season
- 36:41pretty mediocre or or bad, as we discussed the early part of the
- 36:45season, how can you not fire Turner Ward from Josh Humphries?
- 36:50I agree with that one, especially since he was Goldie's
- 36:52guy and Goldie's not coming back.
- 36:55But again, I guess, I guess if we're being fair, I don't want
- 37:00to say does it really matter? But if 2026 is the year that
- 37:04Heim Bloom really takes over, then he'll want to bring in
- 37:08potentially his own manager or or keep these guys, bring in a
- 37:12new manager with a new coaching staff.
- 37:15So do you bring in a whole new coaching staff for Ali and then
- 37:18you get rid of those guys If Heim Bloom wants to make a
- 37:20change, This is baseball, it's the big leagues.
- 37:23It could happen, but I don't know, I, I would have moved on
- 37:28from the offensive staff. I would have had John Mosaic
- 37:32step aside and say it's going to be a, it's going to be a brain
- 37:36trust between between him and Hein Bloom.
- 37:39Ollie, I'm OK with, I get it that you guys aren't.
- 37:42But again, I, I think, I think the big change maybe comes the
- 37:46big change on the field management.
- 37:49I'm talking about the field manager coaching staff that may
- 37:53likely happen in 2026 or before 2026 if Heimbloom is not love in
- 37:58the direction of of that staff and Ollie so on and so forth.
- 38:03Here we go. Mike.
- 38:04I'm not even a little surprised that nothing will change to fix
- 38:072025. Yeah, I get that the Cardinals,
- 38:09the Cardinals are always slow. This this ownership group
- 38:12Mosaic, they're they're very slow to change.
- 38:15And even here, even when it's so obvious that you're making a
- 38:19huge change for 2026, they still essentially are slow playing it
- 38:24this offseason in 2025. By by allowing John Mosaic to
- 38:29stick around. The guy who oversaw the fact
- 38:32that you got into this situation in the 1st place where you feel
- 38:35the need to reset the entire minor league organization and
- 38:38you're letting him stick around for one more year to make top
- 38:42level decisions. That does not make a lot of
- 38:45sense. Brendan Fosche, Why do they do
- 38:49the same things that don't work and expect a different result?
- 38:53I have to go because I have to pick my kids up.
- 38:55Thank you for watching. We had like 300 of you
- 38:58concurrently watching. Let me see, I, I bet you we had
- 39:02over. Could it be over 1000 or is that
- 39:05too many? What do you think?
- 39:06We had 300 people watching at once.
- 39:09Let's see what we had here. Let's see what we had here.
- 39:13We had 14120 people, 14120 views the last 60 minutes.
- 39:20That's pretty good. So thank you guys.
- 39:22I would stay longer, but I got to pick my kids up.

- 40:30Oh, I got to put this up. Look at this guy.
- 40:32He gave me a super thanks, 5 bucks.
- 40:34Thank you, Sam. I am.
- 40:36Thanks for all the measured takes.
- 40:37Most people are just extreme doom and gloom and others are
- 40:39just tools. You are in the middle, which is
- 40:41good in my opinion. Thank you so much.
- 40:43I mean, there's dozens of you guys that I did not get to.
- 40:48Here we go, Brian, Charlie, keep the birds feet to the fire.
