- 0:56let's dive into today's topic. This topic came to me while I
- 1:01was reading and listening to other online law firm marketers
- 1:05and coaches discuss how goal setting is rather passe that
- 1:10instead you should simply change your mindset and good things
- 1:13will come to you no need for goals. So I chuckled to myself,
- 1:18because I know for a fact that those very same markers and
- 1:20coaches not only set goals, but they hire coaches and they
- 1:24invest 1000s of dollars and hours. In working to achieve
- 1:29those goals. It's just what ambitious driven people do. We
- 1:34like to compete, especially against ourselves. So yeah, most
- 1:38of us are goal setters. But it got me thinking about whether or
- 1:42not setting goals can feel off putting to some people, maybe
- 1:47because they have set them in the past and they felt let down
- 1:51when they didn't achieve them. Maybe you can relate to that. Or
- 1:55maybe because it feels like so much pressure to set goals.
- 1:59Perhaps it's because they believe something is wrong with
- 2:03them, if they change their minds about what they want. But
- 2:06they're stuck because they made some public declar declaration
- 2:10about a goal they set back in New Years. Right. So can you
- 2:14relate to any of that?
- 2:15I know, I've certainly been in those different situations. Have
- 2:19you seen that meme going around that says something like change
- 2:23your plan, but NEVER BE Goal guides. So if we set a goal to
- 2:28lose 40 pounds in 2022, but after we lose 30 We find we feel
- 2:33pretty good that way and losing any more would make us look
- 2:37emaciated. What we can't change our goal to lose 40 pounds. I
- 2:42mean, that's silly. I mean, of course you can change your
- 2:45goals. I say they're your goals, and you don't need anyone's
- 2:48permission to change them. Nor do you owe anybody an
- 2:52explanation. Many times we think what we think we want is not
- 2:58what we want at all. But only setting goals and taking action
- 3:03to achieve them provides that clarity for us. So I've worked
- 3:08with many women, law firm owners who who start out thinking that
- 3:13their goals are XYZ. And then as time goes along, and they do the
- 3:18work and they get into their business, they begin to realize
- 3:23that maybe their goals weren't lofty enough, or maybe that's
- 3:27not really what they wanted those goals that they set. So
- 3:31certainly you're free to change your goals. Good goals are
- 3:34really just about your vision for the future. They are an
- 3:38articulation of what you want for yourself. And when we create
- 3:43them, when we write them down, we say them aloud. They are very
- 3:48powerful tools in helping us live the life we imagine we want
- 3:53to live. Recently though, I was in conversation with someone who
- 3:58suggested that instead of thinking in terms of goals,
- 4:01which can feel really bloated for some people, we might want
- 4:04to shift to fantasizing. fantasizing sounds way more fun
- 4:09and sexy than goals doesn't. In our fantasies, everything we
- 4:13desire, we can have instantaneously. So no hard work
- 4:18is required. No buy in from others, no money is required.
- 4:22You don't need permission from anybody, you can just go to that
- 4:24happy place in your head. So it was quite an interesting idea to
- 4:29me because my philosophy has been a bit different throughout
- 4:32my entire life. I never wanted my life to live only in danger.
- 4:39I remember being a young woman and reading romance novels, or
- 4:42having if you've ever read Harlequin romance novels or any
- 4:46of those historical romance novels, maybe some of you still
- 4:49do. But I decided I can either read about love or I can go out
- 4:54and I can find it. I get livid. I didn't want to read fantasies
- 4:59I wanted To lift them up. So for me, that's what goals are really
- 5:04about. It's about taking that fantasy that life been dreaming
- 5:08about, and taking action to make it a reality. What do you what
- 5:13do I want grasping? What do I want? What is step one to
- 5:17achieving it, what is step two, and so on and so forth. Weirdly,
- 5:21though, it's both worked for me and not worked. And I suspect
- 5:25that's just the human condition, everyone is going to experience
- 5:27hills and valleys in their life, regardless of how much goal
- 5:31setting you do, and how many goals you achieve, right. As I
- 5:35got older, though, I realized that fantasies play a much more
- 5:39important role than I realized, when I was younger. How
- 5:44fantasies allow us to a way to get into the emotional state of
- 5:50having what we believe it is we must have to be happy, content
- 5:54or satisfied. So you see, I never considered how important
- 5:58it is to be in the right emotional state, before taking
- 6:02action on my goals. That is until I tried to bulldoze my way
- 6:07through life toward my goals, and wound up burnout and deeply
- 6:11unsatisfied. Having a strong vision, or a fantasy, about what
- 6:17life will be like when we achieve our goals actually helps
- 6:21us to achieve those goals in a much faster, much easier way.
- 6:27Why? Because we are in the emotional state experiencing all
- 6:32the feelings of already having everything we desire. And when
- 6:37we do so we are vibrating on a higher frequency where those
- 6:42things we desire likely live, whether that's a loving
- 6:46relationship or prosperity, or traveling the world, whatever
- 6:54that fantasy is for you. As Abraham Hicks says, for those of
- 6:59you know, know that I love law of attraction, Abraham Hicks and
- 7:02study that Abraham Hicks says it's like tuning your radio into
- 7:07the frequency so you can clearly hear your favorite show. So if
- 7:10you're just a few notches over on the dial, everything sounds,
- 7:15staticky, the more dialed in you are the better everything
- 7:19sounds. So the way to dial in to what you most desire is to
- 7:26fantasize to elevate your frequency to already get in that
- 7:30happy place in your mind.
- 7:33Where you already have everything you already want. And
- 7:36then pay attention to what those fantasies reveal to you about
- 7:41you. Then when you're feeling all the joy of already having
- 7:45everything you desire, you're in the perfect place to begin to
- 7:48take not just action, but inspire action. Perhaps by
- 7:53setting and baby stepping your way through your goals. Now
- 7:56you're coming from a place of inspiration, not a place of half
- 8:01to the minute your goals begin to feel like pressure or
- 8:05drudgery. It is time to go back to your happy place in your mind
- 8:08and fantasize a little bit more. And feel the satisfaction of
- 8:12knowing that at any time, you can feel the joy of having
- 8:16everything your heart desires. Truth be told that and not goal
- 8:21setting is your real superpower. It's my real superpower, all of
- 8:26our all human being superpower. What would happen in your life
- 8:31in your business today, if you started activating this
- 8:34superpower more often. So that's a wrap for this episode of
