- 0:00Speaker 1: Isn't this door Look how cute that is? Starm slash line.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Ben Lee, the donut critic, is here, but I don't
- 0:10Speaker 2: see any donuts. What we've got here is some drinks.
- 0:13Speaker 3: Yeah, so I'm definitely making sure you guys are hydrated
- 0:17Speaker 3: for the holidays, you know, before you start really dipping
- 0:21Speaker 3: into the eggnog and whatnot.
- 0:22Speaker 1: I mean, this isn't so much hydrated it this is
- 0:25Speaker 1: more of a treat, it is true.
- 0:28Speaker 3: So what I've brought in for you are some specialty drinks,
- 0:31Speaker 3: some Boba drinks. And I'm surprised continually how many people
- 0:35Speaker 3: have not tried Boba milk teas and some of these
- 0:38Speaker 3: other specialty drinks.
- 0:40Speaker 4: This is from a place called Sonny Honey.
- 0:43Speaker 5: Yep.
- 0:43Speaker 3: So Sunny Honey is near downtown. And that's one of
- 0:46Speaker 3: the big things I want to talk about, is so
- 0:48Speaker 3: many people are coming downtown for lights, for shopping, just concerts,
- 0:54Speaker 3: spending time with family, and you need to come get
- 0:57Speaker 3: some of these drinks.
- 0:58Speaker 1: I have a door drink here, and you told me
- 1:01Speaker 1: that there's a specific thing I have to do before
- 1:03Speaker 1: I drink it.
- 1:04Speaker 5: What do I have to Yeah?
- 1:05Speaker 3: And I so not only have people not tried boba
- 1:08Speaker 3: and some of these specialty drinks, they do it wrong.
- 1:10Speaker 3: So you have to shake it and you've got to
- 1:13Speaker 3: do it for like fifteen potentially twenty seconds, because that's
- 1:16Speaker 3: the thing if you take a sip of all of
- 1:19Speaker 3: that goodness at the very bottom, like yeah, and I
- 1:22Speaker 3: can see why people.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Because e's done at the bottom.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Yeah okay, so yeah, so you secure lid, turn it
- 1:27Speaker 3: upside down.
- 1:29Speaker 4: It's the secure lid that I'm.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Nervous carries around equipment over there.
- 1:34Speaker 3: But these drinks from Sunny Honey, they have the formidable
- 1:36Speaker 3: lids and so yeah, they're just not like the sealed
- 1:40Speaker 3: ones like some of the shops out there. And the
- 1:43Speaker 3: flavors are amazing. And that's the thing that I love
- 1:45Speaker 3: about Boba and these shops as well, is the variety
- 1:49Speaker 3: and the customization. And I think that's the sad thing
- 1:52Speaker 3: when people don't even give them a chance. You know,
- 1:54Speaker 3: they go to their swigs, they go to their soda shops,
- 1:57Speaker 3: and they don't give some of these shops a really
- 2:00Speaker 3: good chance.
- 2:01Speaker 1: So tell So this one is tai tea? What is
- 2:04Speaker 1: tai tea?
- 2:05Speaker 5: Yeah, so I brought in a Tai tea.
- 2:06Speaker 3: So it's it's a cold brew tea, so it's actually
- 2:09Speaker 3: usually a black tea, but it has some ty spices
- 2:12Speaker 3: and that's what makes it a little bit of a
- 2:14Speaker 3: different color, like more of like an orange color.
- 2:17Speaker 5: Bill. You're drinking a Vietnamese cold coffee.
- 2:21Speaker 4: It's really good. Yeah, that creamy and sweet and delicious.
- 2:26Speaker 5: And then carry you're you're drinking the mango. This is
- 2:30Speaker 5: a signature.
- 2:30Speaker 4: Mango is the signature.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Yeah, so's it's creamy, it's got mango chunks in it.
- 2:36Speaker 3: And then I also have Oscar here in the and
- 2:38Speaker 3: he's done the strawberry milk.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Oscar come over here where Ben is, and so they
- 2:43Speaker 2: can see on camera and can see.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Your and apparently Oscar already knew all about Sunny Honey.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Yeah, he's he's a current fan. He lives by Sunny Honey. Yeah,
- 2:53Speaker 3: and he's got the the bear up a little bit. Yeah,
- 2:57Speaker 3: if you could see, this has a scarf on it.
- 2:59Speaker 3: So has a hat and a scarf, and you get
- 3:02Speaker 3: to keep the bear and you get to keep the.
- 3:03Speaker 5: Bear, you get to keep the scarf, and you get
- 3:05Speaker 5: to keep the hat.
- 3:06Speaker 2: So now now can you take it back in and
- 3:08Speaker 2: get it refilled, because I don't want to.
- 3:10Speaker 4: I don't want to have a bear every time.
- 3:13Speaker 5: No, you you get a new one.
- 3:14Speaker 3: I mean, they're just like the thinner plastic but they
- 3:17Speaker 3: are so fun and honestly, it's been one of those
- 3:19Speaker 3: things my kids ask.
- 3:20Speaker 5: For every year.
- 3:21Speaker 3: These are some viral type of drinks that have really
- 3:26Speaker 3: taken the Internet by storm.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Now it says here there is they have something called
- 3:32Speaker 2: cheese what is what is that?
- 3:35Speaker 3: So it's it's like a it's kind of a savory
- 3:38Speaker 3: cheese foam. So it's it's like cream cheese that's sweetened
- 3:42Speaker 3: and then it has a little bit of sea salt
- 3:44Speaker 3: and it's just you know, foamed up on top of it.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Just really makes for a really good balanced So you
- 3:51Speaker 3: get like a really good sweet fruity drink and then
- 3:54Speaker 3: put that on top and it's kind of that cheesy
- 3:57Speaker 3: fruity noss too.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Apparently, Sonny Honey also coffees. I'm thinking that means they
- 4:02Speaker 2: have hot cough.
- 4:03Speaker 5: They have hot as well.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Yes, so she brought in just cold ones today, but
- 4:07Speaker 3: you can get hot ones. You're obviously not going to
- 4:09Speaker 3: get a hot one in one of those clear teddy bears.
- 4:12Speaker 3: We don't need Teddy Bear burns on your hands.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Tell us a little bit about the owner.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Yeah, so, Cassie, it's a really cool story. I mean
- 4:19Speaker 3: it's the American dream story. She came from Vietnam six
- 4:23Speaker 3: years ago. She worked in the food industry for three
- 4:25Speaker 3: years and decided, hey, it's my time for an American
- 4:28Speaker 3: dream and she started her own shop. And the reason
- 4:31Speaker 3: for Sunny Honey is she wanted it to be a sunny,
- 4:36Speaker 3: like warm, positive type of fill and vibe. And then
- 4:40Speaker 3: the honey portion is the like the Deseret you know,
- 4:44Speaker 3: we're the beehive State.
- 4:45Speaker 4: It's a nod to Yeah.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Yeah, so you know she came over here and that's
- 4:50Speaker 3: kind of like been that combination and so Sunny Honey
- 4:52Speaker 3: and I think it's pretty catchy.
- 4:54Speaker 4: I like the name. Well, this mango is uh, it's
- 4:59Speaker 4: like meal. All those a lot of mango and don't
- 5:04Speaker 4: use syrup.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Everything is made with real fruit and housemade toppings. It
- 5:09Speaker 2: takes longer, but you can taste the difference.
- 5:12Speaker 5: And that's one of the big differences.
- 5:14Speaker 3: I wanted to bring this in and you know, make
- 5:16Speaker 3: sure we're supporting this small business.
- 5:18Speaker 5: Because she really does do it right.
- 5:20Speaker 3: She does fresh fruits, and she does the slow cooking
- 5:24Speaker 3: portion of it, you know, and most of these chains
- 5:26Speaker 3: that are coming in, they use the syrups. Everything is
- 5:29Speaker 3: just stamp and repeat, and you know, this just feels
- 5:33Speaker 3: good to support a small business.
- 5:35Speaker 2: This is really excellent, now, Sonny, honey. It's just just
- 5:38Speaker 2: down the street here.
- 5:40Speaker 4: Yep. So it's west and north on third West.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Yeah, so if you're coming down to Christmas Lights, it's
- 5:46Speaker 3: really right off the six hundred North exit, and you
- 5:49Speaker 3: can just take a quick stop there. There's a brunch
- 5:53Speaker 3: place too, so if you're around the Marmalade area, you know,
- 5:57Speaker 3: you can go and just grab a drink to It's simple.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Now, when you said boba, I was expecting there to
- 6:02Speaker 2: be those little little gobs in there.
- 6:05Speaker 5: They do have boba.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Like these drinks are more of their milk teas and
- 6:09Speaker 3: their their mixed drinks. But yes, they have the typical
- 6:12Speaker 3: tapioca boba as well, and so you can go in
- 6:15Speaker 3: and you know, again, like I think sometimes people get
- 6:18Speaker 3: a little nervous because they have like little black beads.
- 6:21Speaker 3: I remember the first time I had it. It was
- 6:23Speaker 3: in San Francisco about twenty years ago. That actually makes
- 6:26Speaker 3: me sound pretty old, but it was one of those
- 6:29Speaker 3: like eye opening things, and it's just made me really
- 6:32Speaker 3: focus on trying other drinks instead of just soda, instead
- 6:35Speaker 3: of just the hot chocolates.
- 6:37Speaker 2: That says it says here in your notes they have Krawfelds.
- 6:41Speaker 2: What I so, I get I'm kind of guessing what
- 6:43Speaker 2: that is, but explain it.
- 6:45Speaker 3: So that's a croissant waffle, So I'll tell you it
- 6:48Speaker 3: croissant do and then.
- 6:52Speaker 4: It could it could be that because Krawfel sounds better.
- 6:57Speaker 3: Kraffel does sound a little bit better than that. But
- 7:00Speaker 3: they also have other desserts. They have cake pops, they
- 7:02Speaker 3: have macarons and other things. I think they have some
- 7:05Speaker 3: seasonal stuff. So it's just a really fun vibe place,
- 7:09Speaker 3: and yeah, it's nice. One of the things I do suggest,
- 7:13Speaker 3: if you haven't done boba and haven't really got into
- 7:15Speaker 3: all of this, go with a couple of people and
- 7:18Speaker 3: everybody gets something different and then you're able to try
- 7:20Speaker 3: it because like that will make you feel a little
- 7:24Speaker 3: bit more comfortable with the menu and it will expand
- 7:26Speaker 3: what you're able to try next time.
- 7:29Speaker 4: Do they have sit down Yeah, okay.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Yep, so they do have some seating and when it's
- 7:34Speaker 3: the summer. I think they have some outdoor seating, but
- 7:36Speaker 3: you know, it is something that you can just run
- 7:39Speaker 3: in grab and it's super simple.
- 7:41Speaker 5: They have a drive through as well, so I mean
- 7:43Speaker 5: there's a lot of mango in this.
- 7:44Speaker 4: It's not too sweet creamyat's delicious.
- 7:47Speaker 3: And that's one thing actually we didn't talk about too,
- 7:49Speaker 3: is the customization is you can make it as sweet
- 7:52Speaker 3: or as straightforward.
- 7:54Speaker 5: Is they have different levels of sweetness?
- 7:57Speaker 3: Yeah, ice levels, sweetness levels, and that is one of
- 8:01Speaker 3: the things I really like about it too, is you
- 8:02Speaker 3: can just make it your own on it.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Now, this is our last visit with you before the holidays.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Is there any other last minute suggestions for getting treats
- 8:11Speaker 1: for parties and things over the holidays?
- 8:14Speaker 3: Obviously, I would say donut shops. I mean, this is
- 8:16Speaker 3: a very busy time for them. But I think it's
- 8:19Speaker 3: those simple easy pickups. A lot of these donut shops,
- 8:23Speaker 3: you know are you know they're preparing these dozens for
- 8:25Speaker 3: people to come and just pick up easily.
- 8:28Speaker 5: It's huge for class parties as well.
- 8:30Speaker 3: It's super simple, like we're preparing donuts and things like
- 8:34Speaker 3: that for even my kids class parties because It is
- 8:36Speaker 3: just so easy. You know, you feed thirty kids easily
- 8:39Speaker 3: for two and a half dozen.
- 8:40Speaker 4: Yeh's what, I just buy a dozen and then cut
- 8:43Speaker 4: them up. It's true.
- 8:46Speaker 1: You would deny people a hole doughnut.
- 8:49Speaker 4: Yeah, kids, they don't. They're just a bunch of kids.
- 8:52Speaker 3: But yeah, there's still pieser are still really popular.
- 8:56Speaker 5: And I think in general cupcakes.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Yeah, And honestly, a lot of these shops, these bakeries
- 9:03Speaker 3: do meal deals and so if you don't want to
- 9:05Speaker 3: be cooking on Christmas Eve, oh yeah, you know, like
- 9:07Speaker 3: I know, Gormandy does a meal deal that you can
- 9:10Speaker 3: just have, have them prepare. There's a lot of other shops,
- 9:14Speaker 3: you know, but you need to do it now. If
- 9:16Speaker 3: you're going to set that up, you need to do
- 9:18Speaker 3: it now. You don't need to do it next Monday
- 9:20Speaker 3: when everyone's closing.
- 9:23Speaker 5: Yes, exactly, exactly, So think through that.
- 9:25Speaker 2: So this is Sunny Honey. It is a utah boba
- 9:29Speaker 2: and desserts. Sunny Honey owned by Cassie is it vu?
- 9:33Speaker 4: Yeah? You Cassiev Cassie Vu.
- 9:35Speaker 2: And you can find them at let's see five point
- 9:38Speaker 2: thirty five north on third West. Sonny Honey and Oscar
- 9:44Speaker 2: says he goes there all the time.
- 9:45Speaker 3: Yeah, and if you go on my Instagram right now,
- 9:48Speaker 3: on my stories, I have full videos of what you
- 9:51Speaker 3: can get, so you know, you can get your kids
- 9:53Speaker 3: really excited about going to a drink shop before lights
- 9:56Speaker 3: or shopping or whatnot.
- 9:58Speaker 4: So yeah, you go to Instagram, look for the donut.
- 10:00Speaker 5: Critic d O n U T C R I T
- 10:03Speaker 5: I C.
- 10:04Speaker 4: All right, Ben, thank you, have a happy holiday.
- 10:06Speaker 5: Hey, thank you.
- 10:06Speaker 4: All right,
