- 0:09Speaker 2: Ham'sday. Hester and Hester got it.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Your lucks in to Off the Bench Control the Live
- 0:20Speaker 1: from the Mercedes Benz of Baton Rouge Studio. Here's Jacob
- 0:23Speaker 1: Hester and Matt Flynn.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Yo, and welcome in to OTV one oh four five
- 0:33Speaker 2: ESPN Baton.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Rouge Day number three of SEC Media Days live here
- 0:38Speaker 3: from Atlanta, Georgia. And we are not going to waste
- 0:42Speaker 3: any time. We are going to be joined to open
- 0:44Speaker 3: the show by Blake Shape and Mississippi State quarterback and
- 0:48Speaker 3: now Flynn not one, but two three fourd evangel Eagles buddy.
- 0:52Speaker 4: Out numbered by evangel people. What are we doing today?
- 0:56Speaker 4: That's all right, that's all right. So Flynn Blake, thanks
- 0:59Speaker 4: for coming on the show. Glad to have you back on.
- 1:02Speaker 3: He played in Tyler, Texas and at Tyler Lee and
- 1:05Speaker 3: we used to play every team in their district, long
- 1:08Speaker 3: View and Marshall and Lufkin. They were the only team
- 1:11Speaker 3: scared to play the evangel.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, serious, Look.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Let's not get into our beef in front of play.
- 1:17Speaker 3: Let's talk about what he's doing.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Well.
- 1:19Speaker 3: So just quick story. They were scared to play us
- 1:22Speaker 3: because we cut block. They didn't they didn't want to
- 1:24Speaker 3: come to Texas and faces because they knew.
- 1:26Speaker 2: It would Yeah. I think I think Blake knows really
- 1:27Speaker 2: what happened. Really, we had a.
- 1:30Speaker 5: Few of those teams that I played too.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Yes, right, Hey, so man, I'm glad that you're back here.
- 1:35Speaker 3: And we were talking a little bit beforehand. You had
- 1:38Speaker 3: an injury last year, and I think you handled it perfectly,
- 1:42Speaker 3: Like there's a lot of ways you can handle an injury,
- 1:44Speaker 3: and it's it's your.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Way from the game. It's like, okay, what do I do?
- 1:47Speaker 3: You were integrated in the team and you never went
- 1:50Speaker 3: away from the team, and you helped Van Buren and
- 1:53Speaker 3: whatever he needed, you were there.
- 1:54Speaker 2: And I heard, you know, all the coaches talk about that.
- 1:56Speaker 2: What was that process like? Though? For you, man, it
- 1:59Speaker 2: was tough.
- 2:00Speaker 6: So obviously I had missed over eight games in my
- 2:02Speaker 6: career and so sitting out, not being kind of the
- 2:05Speaker 6: center of attention for the first time and not being
- 2:08Speaker 6: the quarterback of the team, it was definitely different. But
- 2:10Speaker 6: the only option I had was to help Mike out,
- 2:13Speaker 6: to be that resource for him. Obviously he was a
- 2:15Speaker 6: young freshman that needed some help. So for me just
- 2:18Speaker 6: to give him my knowledge, be able to be right
- 2:21Speaker 6: behind him.
- 2:21Speaker 5: In every scenario.
- 2:22Speaker 6: Obviously, played a lot of tough games, went to Tennessee,
- 2:25Speaker 6: went to Georgia, played some tough environments.
- 2:28Speaker 5: So obviously he needed.
- 2:30Speaker 6: Some help, and the only option I had was just
- 2:32Speaker 6: to be right behind him.
- 2:34Speaker 3: So I want to kind of let's take a step
- 2:36Speaker 3: back in and just kind of.
- 2:38Speaker 4: Talk about your career a little bit. So you went
- 2:39Speaker 4: to True Burger, you signed with Baylor, right, Yeah, So
- 2:42Speaker 4: I grew up real quickly. I grew up a huge
- 2:44Speaker 4: Baylor fan.
- 2:44Speaker 3: My dad played there in the sixties, so like I was, like,
- 2:47Speaker 3: my heart is like with Baylor.
- 2:48Speaker 2: When it's not with SEC people. So that's all.
- 2:51Speaker 4: And I'm trying to read Am I reading this correctly?
- 2:53Speaker 4: That in the Pig twelve Championshippie through for five and
- 2:56Speaker 4: ninety six?
- 2:56Speaker 2: Is that right? Or is no? Come on no no
- 2:59Speaker 2: check GPT?
- 3:00Speaker 6: So actually the Big twelve Championship, I think I went
- 3:03Speaker 6: seventeen to seventeen or something like that.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Okay, we're going to start the game.
- 3:06Speaker 3: The yards might not be there, but a former quarterback,
- 3:10Speaker 3: I think you appreciate the seventeen of seventeen.
- 3:12Speaker 2: That's more impressive than that, dude.
- 3:14Speaker 4: So you go over and then tell me about that
- 3:16Speaker 4: transition from the transferring going from Baylor to one type
- 3:21Speaker 4: of offense and to what I'm assuming is a kind
- 3:23Speaker 4: of a completely different like mindset reset of offensive philosophy.
- 3:27Speaker 4: But what was that transition like from when you went
- 3:28Speaker 4: from Baylor to Mississipi State.
- 3:30Speaker 5: Yeah, it was a lot different.
- 3:31Speaker 6: I mean, I was in a pro style offense at
- 3:33Speaker 6: Baylor under Jeff Grimes and we're under center probably fifty
- 3:36Speaker 6: percent of the time. To go into coach Levy's offense,
- 3:39Speaker 6: we're we're in a shotgun every time, going full speed,
- 3:42Speaker 6: fast tempo, getting the ball out quick, throwing the ball
- 3:45Speaker 6: down the field. So it was literally polar opposite offense.
- 3:48Speaker 6: But I learned a lot through being at Baylor under
- 3:52Speaker 6: that offense and then going in Missippi State, I learned
- 3:54Speaker 6: a lot under coach Levy.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Yeah, Coach Levey.
- 3:57Speaker 3: One of the things I think that's a little bit
- 3:58Speaker 3: of a misconception about offense because like he wants to
- 4:01Speaker 3: go fast, but he wants to run the football as well,
- 4:04Speaker 3: Like it's still a physical offense, even though like I
- 4:06Speaker 3: think people allow the tempo to just assume, oh, it's
- 4:09Speaker 3: throwing the ball fifty times a game. I mean, it's
- 4:11Speaker 3: still a very balanced attack. And I would even maybe
- 4:13Speaker 3: say run first, like run heavy.
- 4:15Speaker 5: For sure, no doubt.
- 4:16Speaker 6: And for our offense to go, we got to be
- 4:18Speaker 6: able to run the football, just like in any offense.
- 4:20Speaker 6: But like going into this year, we want to be
- 4:22Speaker 6: able to run the football.
- 4:23Speaker 2: That's the goal.
- 4:24Speaker 6: And and I like you said, when you're in a
- 4:26Speaker 6: fast tempo offense, you're throwing the ball down the field.
- 4:29Speaker 2: You're throwing the ball a lot.
- 4:30Speaker 6: You look at the numbers after the game, it's a
- 4:32Speaker 6: lot of pass attempts. But we want to run the football.
- 4:34Speaker 6: That's the goal for sure.
- 4:36Speaker 4: Yeah, And when you go when the offense works with pace,
- 4:39Speaker 4: you certainly simplify and you take at least half the
- 4:43Speaker 4: playbook out of the defense's hands, right, So they can't
- 4:45Speaker 4: line up in a lot of exotics if you'll go
- 4:47Speaker 4: with fast pace. So is that kind of the goal
- 4:49Speaker 4: like get up, gets set, and then what is your
- 4:52Speaker 4: mechanics like when you get to the line of scrimmage?
- 4:54Speaker 4: Are you calling out protections or are you declaring Mike's
- 4:57Speaker 4: or do you have freedom to either kind of change plays,
- 5:00Speaker 4: change protections based on what you're seeing.
- 5:02Speaker 6: We don't declare the mic, but if there is protection
- 5:05Speaker 6: issues or things like that, I fix them or I
- 5:07Speaker 6: can flip the protection. That's all my hands. Like the
- 5:10Speaker 6: line doesn't handle that, I handle that. But like you said,
- 5:13Speaker 6: with the defense not getting lined up, that's that's the
- 5:15Speaker 6: biggest thing for us. It's like we're playing fast so
- 5:17Speaker 6: that they can't disguise what they're they're doing. They're going
- 5:20Speaker 6: to show us what they they're giving us, and we
- 5:22Speaker 6: know exactly what we're getting every play. That's why we
- 5:24Speaker 6: move with so much tempo. Also, so their cleats aren't
- 5:27Speaker 6: in the ground either, so you can get the playoffs.
- 5:29Speaker 6: So but we don't idea the mic, but I flip
- 5:32Speaker 6: protections and things like that, and I handle all that.
- 5:34Speaker 3: I think you really wanted to ask you, do you
- 5:36Speaker 3: go with the clap or do you have a cadence
- 5:38Speaker 3: that is that's been it's been this big thing.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Look, you know we're old hands.
- 5:42Speaker 3: We both turned forty this year, and so is it
- 5:44Speaker 3: only as a clop?
- 5:45Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just a clop.
- 5:48Speaker 3: To have somebody at some point off air like break
- 5:50Speaker 3: it down to me the benefits.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Of the clop. So no dou oh man.
- 5:55Speaker 3: All right, So what are some of the goals for
- 5:57Speaker 3: the team this year? Like in the off season, what
- 5:59Speaker 3: is like the narrative, because every team's going to create
- 6:02Speaker 3: one of those, right, it's like, hey.
- 6:03Speaker 2: We got to do this, we got to do a
- 6:05Speaker 2: B and C. When you're talking with your team, when
- 6:07Speaker 2: coach Levy's out in front of the team, what's the message,
- 6:10Speaker 2: you know?
- 6:10Speaker 6: I think for us is like it's going one to oh,
- 6:12Speaker 6: Like you're we're focused on each week at a time.
- 6:15Speaker 6: Obviously in this conference, you're playing a tough schedule. We
- 6:17Speaker 6: got a really hard schedule. So the more you look forward,
- 6:20Speaker 6: the less focus you are on the game you're playing.
- 6:24Speaker 6: And so I feel like for us, just being one
- 6:26Speaker 6: to know each week not thinking too much down the road.
- 6:28Speaker 6: It's easy to do that, especially when we've got tough
- 6:30Speaker 6: teams that you're gonna face down the road, but just
- 6:33Speaker 6: focusing each week on each opponent.
- 6:38Speaker 3: When you look back when when this season, when the
- 6:40Speaker 3: dust subtles of this season, you look back on it,
- 6:42Speaker 3: what's going to be like something like, man, we did
- 6:45Speaker 3: this in two thousand and five, and that made it
- 6:47Speaker 3: a successful season with twenty five you said two thousand
- 6:51Speaker 3: and five, I'm showing our age.
- 6:53Speaker 2: But it's early.
- 6:55Speaker 7: You know.
- 6:57Speaker 4: I'm looking at Blake here. I know I'm thinking about
- 7:00Speaker 4: like the whirlwind that he's about to go through and
- 7:02Speaker 4: trying to like, you know, make this easy on him
- 7:04Speaker 4: a little bit, but like what I want to like
- 7:06Speaker 4: when you look back on, like the dust settles on
- 7:08Speaker 4: the season and you look back on it and be like,
- 7:09Speaker 4: what's the one thing that's gonna be Like that was
- 7:11Speaker 4: a successful season for us.
- 7:13Speaker 6: I think for us overcoming at versity, like we're gonna
- 7:16Speaker 6: face at versity this year no matter what, and we
- 7:19Speaker 6: gotta we gotta know that and whenever it comes, we
- 7:23Speaker 6: got to be able to overcome it and be able
- 7:25Speaker 6: to bounce back each week whatever it may look like,
- 7:27Speaker 6: whether we're winning, put that in the past, move forward,
- 7:29Speaker 6: go win another game. If you lose, we got to
- 7:32Speaker 6: bounce back the next week. I feel like last year
- 7:34Speaker 6: we struggled at that, like we we took a loss
- 7:36Speaker 6: and we would gain another loss just because we couldn't
- 7:38Speaker 6: get our eyes off the last one, and so I
- 7:40Speaker 6: feel like moving forward, that's our goal is to be
- 7:43Speaker 6: able to overcome whatever whatever we face.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Oh, where's the three one eight shoes?
- 7:48Speaker 3: I just looked down ye playing last year he had
- 7:51Speaker 3: these incredible custom three one eight shoes.
- 7:54Speaker 5: I would on it.
- 7:56Speaker 2: They were three to one great approved. Did we retire those?
- 7:59Speaker 7: Like?
- 7:59Speaker 2: Do we haven't framed?
- 8:00Speaker 6: Yeah, they're in a frame actually yeah yeah they're customers yeah,
- 8:03Speaker 6: hell yeah, No. It was exotic for sure this year.
- 8:07Speaker 6: This year, I was like, I'm coming very clean. I'm
- 8:09Speaker 6: I'm not Yeah, I'm.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Not a look. I liked them. I thought they were nice.
- 8:14Speaker 5: Fun.
- 8:15Speaker 4: It's your experience here though, So you're getting ready for this,
- 8:18Speaker 4: like I mean I would. I can imagine a first
- 8:20Speaker 4: time coming in here. It's like, man, there's these are
- 8:22Speaker 4: these are tight tables in here.
- 8:23Speaker 3: There's a lot of like I got to answer the
- 8:25Speaker 3: same question over and over, no doubt ready.
- 8:27Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean this is my third media day.
- 8:28Speaker 2: So oh wow, I think as you had gone to
- 8:31Speaker 2: two other you went last year.
- 8:32Speaker 5: I went Big twelve and then SEC last year.
- 8:35Speaker 2: What's the difference between Big twelve but SEC media Day?
- 8:38Speaker 6: Man, a lot more interviews I feel like here, Yeah,
- 8:42Speaker 6: here for sure, compared.
- 8:43Speaker 5: To the Big twelve.
- 8:43Speaker 6: Big twelve is more like scattered out and you kind
- 8:45Speaker 6: of got time to sit in between interviews. This one
- 8:48Speaker 6: you're bouncing from interviewed interview.
- 8:49Speaker 5: It's quick, all.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Right, give me your favorite evangel Christian moment that do
- 8:55Speaker 3: you have?
- 8:55Speaker 2: Like one game.
- 8:57Speaker 6: Man probably winning the state championship, my Rushman year. Okay,
- 9:01Speaker 6: who was that Scotlandville in the dome? Yeah, it's pretty special.
- 9:05Speaker 6: They had a actually I don't know if you remember,
- 9:07Speaker 6: Levi Lewis was their quarterback, went to Yeah, yeah, they
- 9:10Speaker 6: had a bunch of studs, but that was probably my
- 9:12Speaker 6: favorite moment, went in the dom.
- 9:13Speaker 4: Yeah, all right, Blake, we're gonna see if you can
- 9:17Speaker 4: save a little.
- 9:20Speaker 3: I got faith, I got faith, and I got players,
- 9:23Speaker 3: the crop of this SEC players.
- 9:24Speaker 2: That's at media Day.
- 9:25Speaker 3: There are so many people that have disappointed us, and
- 9:27Speaker 3: we're hope you're not one of them.
- 9:29Speaker 2: So real quick though, Like we we picked three people
- 9:32Speaker 2: from the entire list to be able to get this
- 9:35Speaker 2: question right, and you were on the list.
- 9:38Speaker 5: It was some pressure on me.
- 9:40Speaker 3: It was you, and it was nuss Meyer and it
- 9:42Speaker 3: was with Weeks also arch manding. We had like some
- 9:46Speaker 3: faith in him. But you were number three on the list.
- 9:48Speaker 3: All right, all right, there we go.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Okay, do you know who Jonathan Moxon?
- 9:55Speaker 5: Oh gosh, I do not.
- 9:58Speaker 2: It plays for the West Canaan. I do not. Have
- 10:00Speaker 2: you seen Varsity Blues? Yes, but a long time Okay,
- 10:04Speaker 2: but you have seen that, but we've seen it. Yeah,
- 10:06Speaker 2: that's the quarterback. That's like the backup quarterback that comes
- 10:09Speaker 2: into the movie. He's the star. Okay, that is that
- 10:11Speaker 2: will take that answer, take one under take that Varsity Blues.
- 10:15Speaker 2: But I don't know that. Okay, he's the only ones
- 10:18Speaker 2: ever known Varsity Blues, like he put it up. So
- 10:19Speaker 2: we we no, no, no. The street for guy came through.
- 10:23Speaker 4: I just wanted to tell him, like we asked Fire
- 10:25Speaker 4: the other day that question and he said, that's not
- 10:27Speaker 4: my generation.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Oh hell, we're old. Hey, Blake, I know you got
- 10:33Speaker 2: to go. We really appreciate it.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Like I said, man, I love how you know, adversity
- 10:36Speaker 3: hit last year.
- 10:37Speaker 2: You didn't allow to de find.
- 10:38Speaker 3: You stayed around the team and you worked your butt
- 10:40Speaker 3: off and now you're back here like you're supposed to
- 10:42Speaker 3: and best of luck this stuff coming.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Appreciate it. Thank you. Appreciate anything.
- 10:46Speaker 5: Thank you appreciure it.
- 10:47Speaker 3: There he is Mississippi state quarterback Blake shape and good
- 10:49Speaker 3: enough to join us here on OTB. We'll be back

- 12:31Speaker 2: one of four five ESPN Batndaruge now going to be
- 12:33Speaker 2: joined by Mississippi State head coach Jeff Levy. Coach. Always
- 12:37Speaker 2: a pleasure to see you. Hope you're doing well.
- 12:39Speaker 7: Yeah, doing good, appreciate it and excited about the day.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I know, I look, I know. This is kind
- 12:45Speaker 2: of like for every coach it's like, Okay, once we
- 12:47Speaker 2: get through media days and we talk about our team
- 12:49Speaker 2: and celebrate our team, then it's on. That's right, Right.
- 12:52Speaker 3: We can have maybe a couple of days here and there,
- 12:54Speaker 3: but like, you're getting so close, and I can tell
- 12:56Speaker 3: just talking to you're ready to get to fall camp.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Yeah, there's no doubt. Man.
- 12:59Speaker 7: We are fifteen days away from reporting and incredibly excited
- 13:03Speaker 7: about getting back on the grass with our guys, the
- 13:06Speaker 7: football team that we've been able to put together, the
- 13:09Speaker 7: roster that we flipped again, really really excited about where
- 13:14Speaker 7: we're at, but where we're going.
- 13:16Speaker 3: So many things when you're coming in and year number one,
- 13:19Speaker 3: and there's so many things in college football now that
- 13:21Speaker 3: you have to worry about. But does it feel different
- 13:24Speaker 3: year number two? Just knowing everything the landscape and the
- 13:27Speaker 3: building and the team and the players, Like, does it
- 13:29Speaker 3: feel different this year at this point than it did
- 13:31Speaker 3: a year ago?
- 13:32Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 13:32Speaker 7: Programmatically it absolutely does. Because you've got your processes in place.
- 13:36Speaker 7: Everybody understands what camp's going to look like. There's some
- 13:39Speaker 7: day to day tweaks. You're always trying to find ways
- 13:42Speaker 7: to get better and maximize the day. But at the
- 13:45Speaker 7: end of the day, with the roster, and I think
- 13:47Speaker 7: the thing that's crazy is that, you know.
- 13:48Speaker 2: We add sixty guys. We add five.
- 13:51Speaker 7: Offensive linemen in the spring portal, we add tight ends
- 13:54Speaker 7: to d linemen, so we've added guys that have not
- 13:56Speaker 7: practiced this a snap with us. Yeah, and Sommat absolutely,
- 14:01Speaker 7: But man, the urgency you have to operate with to
- 14:03Speaker 7: get these guys ready for August thirtieth is incredibly real,
- 14:06Speaker 7: and that's the only way we get done. What we
- 14:08Speaker 7: want to get done is is treating every single day
- 14:11Speaker 7: like man. It's it's game day. You got to find
- 14:14Speaker 7: a way to get better and maximize it.
- 14:17Speaker 4: Yeah, coach, I know, this is kind of like the
- 14:19Speaker 4: last hurdle of the summer. And then after this, after
- 14:22Speaker 4: media dates, it's like, man, let's focus on where we're
- 14:25Speaker 4: close to getting those pads on it. But let's talk
- 14:27Speaker 4: about like today, let's talk about the guys that you
- 14:29Speaker 4: decided to bring to represent your program, represent your school.
- 14:32Speaker 4: Let's talk We just had the privilege of talking to
- 14:34Speaker 4: Blake Shape and your quarterback, but talk about your guys.
- 14:36Speaker 2: What are they bringing through this year? Man? Why did
- 14:39Speaker 2: you choose them to come represent? Yeah, all three of
- 14:41Speaker 2: these guys.
- 14:42Speaker 7: There was great intent on bringing these three guys, and
- 14:45Speaker 7: so for us eighty percent of our rosters in year
- 14:48Speaker 7: one or year two of the program.
- 14:51Speaker 2: You look at Blake Shape and he's.
- 14:52Speaker 7: In year two, Brendan Thompson's in year one, and Isaac
- 14:55Speaker 7: was a high school signing he's in year three obviously
- 14:58Speaker 7: just two years with me.
- 15:00Speaker 2: So all these.
- 15:01Speaker 7: Guys come from these different backgrounds, and I think the
- 15:03Speaker 7: thing that I love is that they have created this
- 15:05Speaker 7: urgency inside the locker room of understanding what it needs
- 15:10Speaker 7: to look like every single day. There's been incredible accountability
- 15:13Speaker 7: with themselves first and then with their teammates.
- 15:16Speaker 2: They're set up to go.
- 15:17Speaker 7: Have great years, and these three guys we need to
- 15:19Speaker 7: go have great years, go do what we want to do.
- 15:21Speaker 7: But man, their leadership, who they are every single day,
- 15:24Speaker 7: and then their opportunity to go produce at a really,
- 15:27Speaker 7: really high level is why they're here.
- 15:29Speaker 3: The way Blake handled last year and getting injured and
- 15:32Speaker 3: then being a mentor to Van Buren like on the field,
- 15:35Speaker 3: actually reached out to him.
- 15:36Speaker 2: I was like, hey, you're doing that the right way.
- 15:37Speaker 3: A lot of people, a lot of college age kids,
- 15:39Speaker 3: they're not doing that right.
- 15:40Speaker 2: They're going away.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Maybe you don't see him again, but like to see
- 15:43Speaker 3: him be interactive and to help out the team, even
- 15:46Speaker 3: though he couldn't help him on the field, I felt
- 15:48Speaker 3: like he was helping on the sideline there.
- 15:50Speaker 2: That just kind of speaks I think to who he is. Yeah,
- 15:52Speaker 2: it absolutely does.
- 15:53Speaker 7: And he's a guy that is a great teammate and
- 15:57Speaker 7: is what it's supposed to look like. And when things
- 15:59Speaker 7: didn't go his way, he found ways to get better,
- 16:01Speaker 7: he found ways to create value, and it's going to
- 16:04Speaker 7: help him today. You know, and it's going to help
- 16:06Speaker 7: him when we get in the middle of September. And
- 16:08Speaker 7: so those are the things again that I'm excited about
- 16:10Speaker 7: for him. It was really hard to go through obviously
- 16:14Speaker 7: for him, for me as we lost him for the year.
- 16:17Speaker 7: But man, year two for quarterback inside the system and
- 16:20Speaker 7: getting coach the way he's getting coached every single day,
- 16:23Speaker 7: he's going to make a great jump and fired up
- 16:25Speaker 7: about it.
- 16:26Speaker 4: Yeah, coach, what's the what's the message to your team
- 16:29Speaker 4: leading into this season, like the what is the picture
- 16:32Speaker 4: you're painting for him? The goal and the expectations that
- 16:34Speaker 4: you're setting for them.
- 16:35Speaker 7: Yeah, well, we'll talk about our goals inside the program,
- 16:38Speaker 7: you know, behind those walls.
- 16:39Speaker 2: But for us, as the leader I do.
- 16:42Speaker 7: I think it's important that people understand, man, we're fighting
- 16:45Speaker 7: like heck to get back to the postseason and then
- 16:47Speaker 7: finding a way to get in a bowl game and
- 16:49Speaker 7: be able to finish the season the right way and
- 16:51Speaker 7: go win a bowl game. And so that will be
- 16:53Speaker 7: a big piece of it. Also while understanding we are
- 16:56Speaker 7: year two, it's eighty percent of the roster, like I've
- 16:59Speaker 7: already mentioned, but our guys there's man, there is there's
- 17:02Speaker 7: great belief. There's great hope, there's trust, and there's great
- 17:05Speaker 7: encouragement that that's happening inside the building to be able
- 17:08Speaker 7: to go do what we need to do, all right.
- 17:10Speaker 3: I love the fact that we got a former offensive
- 17:13Speaker 3: line and like fullback I was basically like an extension
- 17:16Speaker 3: of the offensive line. So I'm always curious, like during practice,
- 17:19Speaker 3: like how you go about it, because I know you
- 17:21Speaker 3: work with the quarterbacks a time, but I know you've
- 17:23Speaker 3: got to go down there with the big nasties just
- 17:25Speaker 3: a little bit, like watch them an individual and coaching
- 17:27Speaker 3: them up.
- 17:27Speaker 7: Yeah. No, I'll take a peek down there. If I'm
- 17:29Speaker 7: not with the quarterbacks, you're gonna find me with the
- 17:31Speaker 7: old line.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:32Speaker 7: And that's that's just kind of how it trends for
- 17:35Speaker 7: me and always has so again, man, as we're on
- 17:39Speaker 7: the grass and try to be incredibly present with as
- 17:42Speaker 7: many of the guys as I possibly can because I
- 17:45Speaker 7: am calling it every single snap and so finding ways
- 17:47Speaker 7: to touch those defensive guys.
- 17:49Speaker 2: I was about to say, like you got to go
- 17:50Speaker 2: over there a.
- 17:50Speaker 7: Little bit because you're the head coach absolutely and being
- 17:53Speaker 7: involved with with what goes on on that side of
- 17:56Speaker 7: the field. Yeah, I think is important, you know, so
- 17:59Speaker 7: they see me and feel me from uh, from from
- 18:02Speaker 7: the leadership standpoint, but uh, I'm I'm gonna find a
- 18:05Speaker 7: way to watch some old line.
- 18:07Speaker 4: Yeah cause, like most offensive line head coaches I ever had,
- 18:10Speaker 4: wanted to line up with two tight ends and a
- 18:13Speaker 4: full back and run it, run and run it. And
- 18:15Speaker 4: I'm getting ganged up here, probably by some running game gurus.
- 18:18Speaker 2: But hey, tell me how your philosophy. He's gonna run,
- 18:21Speaker 2: but he's.
- 18:21Speaker 4: Gonna run because running game is like the best friend
- 18:24Speaker 4: of a quarterback obviously, But how did your offensive philosophy
- 18:29Speaker 4: kind of developed?
- 18:29Speaker 3: I know you're at Oklahoma, but like, how did that
- 18:31Speaker 3: kind of get to where it is?
- 18:32Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 18:32Speaker 7: I mean it was the beginning of the college career
- 18:34Speaker 7: for me, being with coach Brawls and and you know,
- 18:37Speaker 7: as we started to spread the field the way we
- 18:39Speaker 7: did and for those years in Waco and then just
- 18:42Speaker 7: taking that and growing it into into what we are
- 18:45Speaker 7: you know today. But that's from a philosophical standpoint. Aggression mentality, personality,
- 18:52Speaker 7: that's that's where I get a ton of it.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't really ever know, and I talk about
- 18:55Speaker 2: all the time. I don't know like where that misconception
- 18:57Speaker 2: about like.
- 18:58Speaker 3: Up tempo offenses came from. It's like they're a tip
- 19:00Speaker 3: of they throw it fifty five times a game. It's like, no,
- 19:02Speaker 3: like everything starts with this offense through the running game,
- 19:06Speaker 3: and you got to establish who you are through the
- 19:08Speaker 3: running game.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Always has yeah, and and always will.
- 19:11Speaker 7: But I love the fact that people think it's just
- 19:13Speaker 7: to throw it a round deal.
- 19:15Speaker 2: Hopefully they'll continue to Yeah, just put an extra dB
- 19:18Speaker 2: in there when y'all play. Yeah, we're going to throw
- 19:20Speaker 2: a lot of promise, no doubt. Yeah it's gonna be okay,
- 19:22Speaker 2: no doubt. What are some of the coach where are
- 19:25Speaker 2: some like the off season messages?
- 19:26Speaker 3: And look, all three of us are for more players.
- 19:28Speaker 3: We've been through off seasons. We know it's like hey,
- 19:30Speaker 3: and it changes every off season. I say, I want
- 19:32Speaker 3: to get this done this off season. So when you
- 19:34Speaker 3: get in front of the team, what's kind of been
- 19:35Speaker 3: the main point of focus?
- 19:37Speaker 7: Yeah, I think making sure our guys understand this is
- 19:40Speaker 7: a profession in the game of earning it and it's
- 19:42Speaker 7: it's literally every single day, right, you know, you want
- 19:45Speaker 7: to change the result in the fall, And what are
- 19:47Speaker 7: we doing on on that Tuesday in June to change
- 19:50Speaker 7: the result because that ultimately is gonna matter, and it's
- 19:54Speaker 7: gonna matter in a huge way. And so that's been
- 19:57Speaker 7: something we've stressed. We've talked about NonStop as we get
- 20:01Speaker 7: into the season, into fall camp man, the way we practice,
- 20:05Speaker 7: creating that sense of desperation every day, of finding a
- 20:09Speaker 7: way to maximize every practice, every rep and coaching them
- 20:13Speaker 7: that way to try to figure out exactly what we
- 20:16Speaker 7: had before we go to Hattie's births.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:17Speaker 4: Yeah, and we've we've kind of talked a little bit
- 20:19Speaker 4: a lot about the offense. Now let's let's flip it
- 20:21Speaker 4: to the other side of the ball.
- 20:21Speaker 2: I know you got Isaac Smith here.
- 20:23Speaker 4: Safety gonna talk and represent his defense, But give us
- 20:27Speaker 4: your review of the defense. How the year two, your leadership,
- 20:31Speaker 4: your your playmakers.
- 20:32Speaker 7: Yeah, I think that the first thing that comes to
- 20:36Speaker 7: mind is what we've been able to do from a
- 20:37Speaker 7: staffing standpoint, you know, adding Paul Rhodes, Mike McIntyre, Vincent
- 20:41Speaker 7: Dancy to that room. All three former head coaches, two
- 20:44Speaker 7: of them at the Power four level. Obviously with Mac
- 20:48Speaker 7: and Paul, both those guys have been coordinators inside our
- 20:51Speaker 7: conference and had great success. So we had great additions
- 20:55Speaker 7: to that side of the ball from a staffing standpoint,
- 20:57Speaker 7: which I'm excited about, and we did. We signed ten
- 21:01Speaker 7: new defensive linemen, we signed ten new backers.
- 21:05Speaker 2: So the look of that side of.
- 21:07Speaker 7: The ball in the first two levels of the defense
- 21:09Speaker 7: will look completely different. So again, we're nowhere close to
- 21:13Speaker 7: where we need to be, but we're gonna have the
- 21:16Speaker 7: ability to have some depth and to create some negatives
- 21:20Speaker 7: and that's gonna be a huge part of who we
- 21:23Speaker 7: want to be. Isaac and there's not a better spokesperson
- 21:27Speaker 7: for our football team or our defense than Isaac Smith.
- 21:30Speaker 2: And like he's.
- 21:31Speaker 7: Everything the game's supposed to be about. That's who he is.
- 21:34Speaker 7: He's ate up with it. Toughness wins at the end
- 21:37Speaker 7: of the day. And this kid loves football. He loves
- 21:40Speaker 7: Mississippi State. I love coaching him and incredibly proud of him.
- 21:44Speaker 7: He's gonna go have a big year for us.
- 21:46Speaker 3: So you mentioned Hattie's bird there you get a chance
- 21:48Speaker 3: to that's where you open it up against Southern miss
- 21:51Speaker 3: That opportunity. It's like some people would ask, Okay, well
- 21:53Speaker 3: why is Missippi State playing there? It's an opportunity to
- 21:56Speaker 3: go to a portion of Mississippi that feels like it's
- 21:58Speaker 3: you know, it's crucial for what you do in high
- 22:01Speaker 3: school recruiting, and then they get a chance to say, hey,
- 22:03Speaker 3: we got to see Mississippi State in our hometown or
- 22:05Speaker 3: at least in our area of Mississippi.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I do.
- 22:08Speaker 7: I think being able to open down there being an
- 22:10Speaker 7: end state opponent, I think it creates excitement and I
- 22:13Speaker 7: think it creates the ability for our guys to have
- 22:16Speaker 7: a great attention to who we're going to play. There's
- 22:19Speaker 7: a ton of familiarity with both rosters. I think that's
- 22:22Speaker 7: great for us. And again being an in state game.
- 22:25Speaker 7: From a recruiting standpoint, being in Hattiesburg, we recruit down
- 22:29Speaker 7: there a ton in south of there obviously, so that
- 22:32Speaker 7: that will that'll be a big one for us.
- 22:34Speaker 3: All right, coach, Hey, we're gonna keep all moving along.
- 22:37Speaker 3: We know you got to move along. We appreciate your time. Hey,
- 22:40Speaker 3: he gave Mellon a shout out because look, you know
- 22:42Speaker 3: we might have some some situation alarn On here. Yeah,
- 22:46Speaker 3: so I can appreciate that as well as enjoy today.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Always a pleasure, appreciate it.

- 25:11Speaker 3: O GB one, O four five ESPN Baton Rouge. I
- 25:15Speaker 3: know that we kind of got into the show full
- 25:18Speaker 3: throttle there head first.
- 25:19Speaker 2: We had a couple of guests.
- 25:20Speaker 3: We didn't really have any yesterday, so you know, well, no,
- 25:23Speaker 3: that's that's that part of was fine. It's just you know,
- 25:26Speaker 3: we opened up with three one greater, so we just
- 25:29Speaker 3: really full throttled this thing.
- 25:30Speaker 4: Yeah, y'all really blindsided me with that whole Report Evangels situation.
- 25:36Speaker 2: But yeah, I was fired up to see him.
- 25:38Speaker 7: He.
- 25:38Speaker 4: I thought he had a really cool mindset. Impressed with him.
- 25:42Speaker 4: I impressed that he I was kind of fired up
- 25:45Speaker 4: that he was a Baylor guy too. I know, I
- 25:47Speaker 4: don't even know why, Like I kind of I kind
- 25:50Speaker 4: of always forget right your Baylor connection, Like when we're
- 25:53Speaker 4: in the moment because of course, you know you've told
- 25:55Speaker 4: it on air. Your father played quarterback there, so it's
- 25:57Speaker 4: it's your second team. So I didn't and I didn't
- 25:59Speaker 4: realize like the old like Art Brills offensive connection with
- 26:05Speaker 4: Jeff Leby and his philosophy, and that's crazy, right, like
- 26:08Speaker 4: an offensive lineman head coach, because yeah, I got wouldn't
- 26:11Speaker 4: lie like Les Miles wanted to sit there and run
- 26:14Speaker 4: power nine toss.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Right. Yeah. My high school head.
- 26:16Speaker 4: Coach was an off X offensive lineman at two lane
- 26:20Speaker 4: and he was like, I mean, I was lucky to
- 26:22Speaker 4: get seven eight passes offensive game in high school.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Right.
- 26:25Speaker 4: So you go and you see an X offensive lineman
- 26:28Speaker 4: who's a head coach, and his offensive philosophy is we're
- 26:30Speaker 4: gonna go fast, we're gonna spread it out, now, we're
- 26:32Speaker 4: gonna run it. I'm not taking that we're gonna we're
- 26:34Speaker 4: gonna run because it is helpful to the quarterback. But
- 26:38Speaker 4: I mean it's just kind of like one of those
- 26:40Speaker 4: those crazy coaching conundrums there that.
- 26:43Speaker 2: It's like he's actually different.
- 26:45Speaker 3: And I know, look, we always joke about Jeff Leby
- 26:47Speaker 3: because the first day you named the coaches, that was
- 26:49Speaker 3: the one you got there eventually, but.
- 26:51Speaker 2: We're there, like I'll never forget it. No, well, no
- 26:53Speaker 2: you won't. He we're like buds, like he's got a
- 26:56Speaker 2: cool story. So and I say cool, Like it's unfortunate
- 26:59Speaker 2: how it's started, but it ended up being cool. Like
- 27:02Speaker 2: he went to Oklahoma as a player, like off in
- 27:04Speaker 2: the lineman, signed with Oklahoma and he had an injury
- 27:07Speaker 2: and he couldn't plain anymore. It's like, well, I want
- 27:10Speaker 2: to be around Oklahoma. I want to be around football.
- 27:12Speaker 2: What do I do? Like do you want a student coach?
- 27:14Speaker 3: So yeah, Like so he like was a student coach
- 27:17Speaker 3: for multiple years at Oklahoma.
- 27:19Speaker 2: It's like that's what he did. And then so that
- 27:21Speaker 2: started his coaching career and like you're like, he just
- 27:24Speaker 2: he kind of grinds and goes to different jobs and
- 27:27Speaker 2: then you know, finds his way back as the offensive
- 27:29Speaker 2: coordinator there at Oklahoma, and then he gets an opportunity
- 27:32Speaker 2: to be the head coach at Mississippi State.
- 27:34Speaker 3: So it's a really cool story of not allowing that
- 27:37Speaker 3: injury to kind of change what he wanted to do.
- 27:39Speaker 3: It just it got started sooner, but it got to
- 27:41Speaker 3: the finish line where he wanted to finish, which is
- 27:43Speaker 3: an SEC head coach.
- 27:45Speaker 4: Yeah, and you know what, just talking to both of them,
- 27:48Speaker 4: what I was kind of impressed with was the self
- 27:51Speaker 4: awareness that they had for their program and the goals
- 27:55Speaker 4: and expectations they set, because like, it's easy to sit
- 27:57Speaker 4: there as the head coach or the court and like,
- 28:00Speaker 4: we ask a big picture goal, what's your goal for
- 28:02Speaker 4: the season? What does success look like in the season,
- 28:05Speaker 4: And it's easy for them to say, well, we want
- 28:06Speaker 4: to win a championship, we want to win the SEC championship,
- 28:09Speaker 4: we want to be the playoffs, blah blah blah.
- 28:11Speaker 2: That's easy to.
- 28:12Speaker 4: Like fall back on and that would be kind of
- 28:14Speaker 4: like some false confidence. But what they what Blake told me,
- 28:17Speaker 4: what Blake Shape in the quarterback said was we want
- 28:20Speaker 4: to overcome adversity because last year we didn't. We let
- 28:24Speaker 4: adversity overcome us, and we let a bad play turn
- 28:28Speaker 4: a bad play, a bad drive turn into another one,
- 28:30Speaker 4: a bad quarter into it.
- 28:31Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
- 28:31Speaker 4: Yeah, So having that awareness, the you know, the the
- 28:35Speaker 4: maturity to say, look, it's probably not going to be perfect, but.
- 28:39Speaker 2: We cannot let we want to overcome.
- 28:41Speaker 3: We're going to I want to be proud of this team,
- 28:42Speaker 3: it's a successful season if we can over because things
- 28:45Speaker 3: aren't going to be perfect. And then of course, uh,
- 28:49Speaker 3: Jeff Lobby, the head coach, his mantra was, we want
- 28:53Speaker 3: to compete for the postseason.
- 28:55Speaker 4: Didn't necessarily say a championship or playoffs right now. He
- 28:58Speaker 4: understand and he said it.
- 28:59Speaker 3: He said, it's year two, this is year two four us,
- 29:01Speaker 3: so we want to win a bowl game.
- 29:04Speaker 2: We want to.
- 29:05Speaker 4: So like the self awareness that they have I think
- 29:08Speaker 4: is a really cool mindset because it's I mean, it
- 29:11Speaker 4: didn't look.
- 29:12Speaker 3: Great last year, yeah, but they are building something. It
- 29:15Speaker 3: was year one last year. So I just thought that
- 29:16Speaker 3: self awareness was cool to hear from them from their
- 29:19Speaker 3: head coach and their starting quarterback. Yeah, like Rome wasn't
- 29:21Speaker 3: built in today kind of mentality, Like were like, do
- 29:24Speaker 3: we want to get there?
- 29:25Speaker 2: Yeah, but we have a lot of new from a
- 29:27Speaker 2: year ago. And he said, we had a lot of
- 29:29Speaker 2: new coming back this year through the portal and I'm.
- 29:32Speaker 4: Like ten defensive linemen or something like something crazy.
- 29:36Speaker 2: They said like eighty percent of the roster is going
- 29:38Speaker 2: to be different. Yep.
- 29:39Speaker 4: Like that that's expect for us to know their names
- 29:41Speaker 4: if you know they're just they're all brand new.
- 29:43Speaker 2: Well, look, I just painted the question. It's like, tell
- 29:46Speaker 2: me about your defense.
- 29:47Speaker 3: Hey, that was I know. And then you looked at
- 29:49Speaker 3: the you know, the person that was going to be
- 29:50Speaker 3: here Smith and they rolled off the tongue. I'm like,
- 29:53Speaker 3: that's a pro move, pro move. It might be a
- 29:56Speaker 3: rookie player, but it's a pro move.
- 29:58Speaker 2: So Blake was here.
- 29:59Speaker 4: I asked that question cause I I'm starting to not
- 30:01Speaker 4: trust chat Gpt because Chad Gpt literally said he came
- 30:05Speaker 4: in and three for five hundred and ninety six yards,
- 30:06Speaker 4: and I'm like, that's a lot, Like that's gonna be cuzy.
- 30:09Speaker 2: I knew he had I knew he had a big game.
- 30:10Speaker 2: I knew something happened. I was like, I don't know.
- 30:12Speaker 4: I was like, five ninety six doesn't sound right, but
- 30:14Speaker 4: I know Baylor has thrown for like ridiculous yardage and
- 30:17Speaker 4: it's happened before. So I said that, So of course
- 30:21Speaker 4: he sees like my question, like, tell me about Blake
- 30:24Speaker 4: shaping all this stuff. You had the screen up still,
- 30:30Speaker 4: I had the screens. I was reading like the yardage
- 30:31Speaker 4: and I saw him. He was sitting here and he
- 30:33Speaker 4: was like started peeking at it. And I was like,
- 30:36Speaker 4: that's right, chat gptg.
- 30:37Speaker 3: Bro although it failed you, but but he's still like
- 30:42Speaker 3: he had a great game, being seventeen seventycent decent, like
- 30:47Speaker 3: as a quarterback.
- 30:48Speaker 2: I mean, that's harder to do than throw for five hund.
- 30:50Speaker 4: So like artificial intelligence not that intelligent. I felt like
- 30:56Speaker 4: it just was a bold face lie. Yeah, where are
- 30:58Speaker 4: you pulling that info from?
- 30:59Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 31:00Speaker 3: I don't know because it doesn't it say searching the web.
- 31:02Speaker 3: Whenever you hit enter what web? Did it search the
- 31:05Speaker 3: wrong one?
- 31:07Speaker 2: What?
- 31:07Speaker 3: What's the guy that Jimbo the Jimbo Fisher went back
- 31:11Speaker 3: and forth like in a press conference slice bread or
- 31:14Speaker 3: something like there was like a blog like slice bread
- 31:16Speaker 3: or something bread do you know, I'm talking about Bible
- 31:21Speaker 3: pro Bible And it was like through bro Bible maybe
- 31:25Speaker 3: and it was like a user name of something bread
- 31:28Speaker 3: or something. And Jimbo, I don't know where he gets
- 31:31Speaker 3: all this from. No, no, y'all listen to their sliced
- 31:33Speaker 3: bread and a bro Bible. Don't know bro Bible.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe that's what chat GPT is getting it as well.
- 31:41Speaker 2: I think it's you think the web. But then they
- 31:45Speaker 2: like finds stuff like that.
- 31:46Speaker 4: Well, intelligence is dumb. Let's just taken. Let's just keep
- 31:52Speaker 4: you on Google, my guy. No, no, no cha, I'm
- 31:55Speaker 4: gonna trust it from here on now. It can only
- 31:56Speaker 4: be one right wrong once a day, I think figure
- 32:00Speaker 4: it out.
- 32:01Speaker 2: So I'll just I'll definitely type.
- 32:03Speaker 3: In like what to ask Greg Sankie and see what
- 32:05Speaker 3: kind of stats pulls up for that. Listen, So we're
- 32:08Speaker 3: gonna have Commissioner sank you on. In like an hour
- 32:10Speaker 3: and a half, Matt had him on and I'm sure
- 32:14Speaker 3: they talked the state of college football.
- 32:16Speaker 2: I'm sure they talked about court cases. I'm sure they
- 32:19Speaker 2: talked about a lot of things like that, and I'm
- 32:20Speaker 2: sure it was great. I bet it was.
- 32:23Speaker 3: When Commissioner Sankie sits down with us, it's not gonna
- 32:25Speaker 3: be that conversation, y'all know, a little different. OTV is
- 32:29Speaker 3: gonna let him breathe, They're gonna let him like kick back.
- 32:32Speaker 2: Hey, maybe he'll maybe, maybe he'll loosen his tie a
- 32:35Speaker 2: little bit. All right.
- 32:36Speaker 3: So I'm just letting y'all know, like we're gonna talk
- 32:37Speaker 3: about a lot of stuff that's not like the state
- 32:40Speaker 3: of college football.
- 32:42Speaker 2: Uh I see, Golfer, I wonder what his golf handicap is.
- 32:44Speaker 2: I think he is.
- 32:45Speaker 3: Okay, he's a big reader, big reader. Okay, I'm out,
- 32:51Speaker 3: not a lot in common then, Okay, I thought maybe.
- 32:53Speaker 2: I thought maybe maybe you maybe had a chance with you.
- 32:56Speaker 3: I listened to listen to some books on tape. I'm
- 32:58Speaker 3: on the sixth book of the Terminal List series. I
- 33:03Speaker 3: watched the show good Show, very good show. It's coming
- 33:05Speaker 3: out with another one, right is it?
- 33:06Speaker 2: Yeah? He has a prequel. Okay, there is slice Bread.
- 33:17Speaker 3: Oh that's a new drops Bread.
- 33:22Speaker 4: I don't even know where we were going, but I
- 33:23Speaker 4: just found out Terminalist the Terminalist here at me Today's
- 33:28Speaker 4: College Football Hall of Fame talking Terminal List prequels.
- 33:32Speaker 2: So I got to got to radio Road today.
- 33:37Speaker 3: And noticed something when I sat down that I got
- 33:40Speaker 3: a huge gash in my pants.
- 33:43Speaker 2: When he says gash, like, I can see this man's hamstring.
- 33:45Speaker 4: This is like upper like hamstring, hamstring, but it goes
- 33:49Speaker 4: to the upper inner groin as well. And I'm pretty
- 33:53Speaker 4: sure I'd have to confirm with my wife.
- 33:55Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure that this hole was here like.
- 34:00Speaker 4: A couple of weeks ago that we noticed, and I
- 34:02Speaker 4: meant to throw these away, so it was fair and
- 34:05Speaker 4: I just packed them. But these are like a good
- 34:07Speaker 4: pair of jeans, Like I wore these yesterday too and
- 34:10Speaker 4: didn't really.
- 34:11Speaker 2: Notice, so I don't think I saw the hole and
- 34:16Speaker 2: I was just walking and standing around a lot yesterday.
- 34:19Speaker 3: Yeah you were, so now it's one of those things
- 34:22Speaker 3: I got noticed, so I can't stop thinking about it
- 34:24Speaker 3: a little bit.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought you were going up to the room
- 34:26Speaker 2: to change. Well, I was, but I was.
- 34:29Speaker 3: On the Atlanta radio show next to us for a
- 34:31Speaker 3: little while, and then I got done with them at
- 34:33Speaker 3: seven forty two Eastern time, Eastern Standard time, and I
- 34:37Speaker 3: started going back to the hotel and I was like, man,
- 34:39Speaker 3: I'm not gonna make it. That elevator takes forever, especially
- 34:43Speaker 3: in the morning with everybody coming down to get coffee.
- 34:45Speaker 3: Sometimes you're waiting, like for minutes for it. But hey,
- 34:48Speaker 3: so appreciate you. I'm sacrificing taking one for the team.
- 34:51Speaker 4: I got my upper hamstring thigh stuck to these leather
- 34:55Speaker 4: seats right now. But we're here, We're gonna grind, We're
- 34:59Speaker 4: gonna overcome adversity.
- 35:01Speaker 2: What are you gonna do? I mean, like you, you've
- 35:02Speaker 2: got the bladder of an eighty two year old man
- 35:04Speaker 2: named Larry. What are you? What are you gonna do
- 35:07Speaker 2: when you gotta get up use the restaurant? If it
- 35:09Speaker 2: mine's eighty two, what is yours? Ninety two year old?
- 35:11Speaker 2: Now mine's like seventy eight. I'm a little bit behind you. No, yeah,
- 35:15Speaker 2: I'm a little bit behind you. Brother. Did you know
- 35:18Speaker 2: did you see yourself in the airport the other day?
- 35:21Speaker 2: Like you?
- 35:22Speaker 3: I think you knocked an old lady over trying to
- 35:24Speaker 3: get to the bathroom. She was in your way, a
- 35:26Speaker 3: little gritty.
- 35:27Speaker 2: I n't. I didn't say mine was perfect.
- 35:30Speaker 3: My whole point was just you got you got to
- 35:32Speaker 3: get up to go use the restaurroom. I know you,
- 35:34Speaker 3: and you're gonna have half your glute out I do.
- 35:38Speaker 2: That'sbra ham shram.
- 35:40Speaker 3: I gotta keep my I'm gonna be like a lady
- 35:43Speaker 3: wearing a skirt today. I gotta keep my knees tucked
- 35:45Speaker 3: a little bit. Yeah, because I got some growing action
- 35:48Speaker 3: happened right here.
- 35:51Speaker 2: So I think Blake shape it.
- 35:53Speaker 3: I think Blake shape and got the Varsity Blues is
- 35:55Speaker 3: as as well as it's going to get answered here
- 35:58Speaker 3: today or for the rest of the week.
- 35:59Speaker 4: I've seen it, But it's been a long time. I
- 36:02Speaker 4: wonder how long because that's not like a child's movie.
- 36:06Speaker 4: He's only what twenty two, So how long ago?
- 36:09Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 36:10Speaker 3: I mean I probably I was fourteen when I saw it. Okay,
- 36:14Speaker 3: it came out in ninety nine, right, Yeah, I was
- 36:16Speaker 3: born eighty five. You were born in the theaters. I
- 36:18Speaker 3: didn't see it in theaters. I saw it, like I
- 36:20Speaker 3: think I did. All right, So I had an older
- 36:23Speaker 3: brother who was probably seventeen at the time.
- 36:25Speaker 2: Okay, got who went with him? Yeah? With him? Oh yeah, mom,
- 36:28Speaker 2: Dad see football movie.
- 36:29Speaker 3: Yeah, as far as he blues, it's about uh jazz blues.
- 36:34Speaker 2: Yeah, the varsity band.
- 36:39Speaker 3: Then you know you can see miss Davis yeah, all
- 36:42Speaker 3: that good stuff.
- 36:42Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 36:45Speaker 4: I wonder how young he was though. And then follow
- 36:49Speaker 4: up question that should have been, so you didn't like it.
- 36:52Speaker 4: You hadn't seen it since, like you didn't watch it
- 36:54Speaker 4: every other day like we did.
- 36:56Speaker 2: Yeah, didn't impact him like he did us didn't.
- 36:59Speaker 3: It didn't have that impact, which is shocking because there's
- 37:02Speaker 3: not that many football.
- 37:04Speaker 2: Movies that were released within these kids' lifetime.
- 37:07Speaker 4: Yeah, think about like, which which ones did which what
- 37:11Speaker 4: football movies or quality football movies have been released in
- 37:16Speaker 4: these kids' lifetime.
- 37:17Speaker 2: No, I mean the Replacements is close.
- 37:20Speaker 3: Yeah, it's probably right there on the edge, depending on
- 37:22Speaker 3: what they're remember the Titans close by that stuff like
- 37:25Speaker 3: O two ish? Probably so I mean we're getting I mean,
- 37:30Speaker 3: I don't know what. Ask your friend chet GPT.
- 37:34Speaker 2: Uh. Later on, I did hear rumors.
- 37:36Speaker 4: We'll have to confirm this, not with cheat GPT because
- 37:38Speaker 4: it's a liar. I heard that there might be some
- 37:43Speaker 4: sort of a reboot of the program coming.
- 37:47Speaker 3: Now, don't tempt me with a good time. Is this
- 37:49Speaker 3: something you actually heard? This is what I heard from
- 37:51Speaker 3: a very reliable source. A lot of people dropping rumors
- 37:53Speaker 3: this week about reliable from reliable sources.
- 37:56Speaker 2: I heard quick trivia.
- 38:00Speaker 3: What stadium was it filmed in the original program?
- 38:04Speaker 2: What was there? Two? It was either South Carolina Mississippi State. Well,
- 38:09Speaker 2: I think South Carolina? South Carolina? Okay, good like a

- 38:14Speaker 2: Willy b all right, WILLIAMS. Brice is the name of
- 38:19Speaker 2: the stadium. You knew that, ud go South?
- 38:24Speaker 3: Two forty year old men talking about who has to
- 38:26Speaker 3: piss more often? It is fascinating sports radioed.
- 38:31Speaker 2: You're competitive. What are sports? They're competitive.
- 38:34Speaker 3: It's an occupational hazard of being the most hydrated dude around.
- 38:37Speaker 2: You can't be the king of hydration and not have
- 38:39Speaker 2: to go use the restroom.
- 38:40Speaker 3: Yeah, gotta flush, you gotta flush at people, got to
- 38:42Speaker 3: flush the body. Uh yeah, all right. On that note,
- 38:45Speaker 3: we will take a break again. We've got Commissioner Sankey
- 38:48Speaker 3: coming later up. We'll have guests throughout the show. We'll
- 38:51Speaker 3: kind of break down what we saw, what we heard yesterday.
- 38:55Speaker 3: Obviously it was a heavy hitter day with Auburn, Georgia,
- 38:57Speaker 3: Tennessee and Texas. And hey, look, we'll truly get this
- 39:00Speaker 3: thing started when we come.
- 39:02Speaker 2: Back on OTB off the bench.

- 41:58Speaker 3: this as we recap what have been in day two.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Of sec media days.
- 42:02Speaker 3: But look, it was Texas, and Texas brought three stars.
- 42:06Speaker 3: They brought Anthony Hill Junior All American. They brought Michael
- 42:09Speaker 3: taff All American. They also brought Arch Maning. Some call
- 42:12Speaker 3: him arc, but they brought Arch Maning. He's not an
- 42:15Speaker 3: All American. A lot of people hoping that he is
- 42:17Speaker 3: an All American. A lot of people are assuming he
- 42:18Speaker 3: will be an All American.
- 42:20Speaker 2: Can I tell you something about arch real quick? Yep.
- 42:23Speaker 2: So the lots happened in Atlanta this weekend.
- 42:27Speaker 4: There's been wrestling events, all star weekends, Beyonce concerts, and
- 42:32Speaker 4: can I tell you from the hierarchy of star power
- 42:36Speaker 4: in the city, it seems like it was Arch Manning
- 42:39Speaker 4: here and Beyonce just like right under him as far
- 42:42Speaker 4: as like star power, because.
- 42:43Speaker 2: That man brought the heat.
- 42:46Speaker 3: The people were very, very pleased to see in person
- 42:51Speaker 3: in the flesh Arch Manning.
- 42:53Speaker 2: He did have. It was wild. Yeah, he didn't have
- 42:57Speaker 2: like just a massive falling and.
- 42:59Speaker 4: He makes me want to say like poor kid like
- 43:01Speaker 4: but then it's but it could be so good for him.
- 43:03Speaker 2: He's a Manning. He handled it all perfectly.
- 43:06Speaker 3: I had a chance to interview him down the series
- 43:09Speaker 3: XM room and he crushed it like you know what
- 43:11Speaker 3: I'm saying, like like shit, now I will say this though,
- 43:15Speaker 3: all the people that Texas brought, like Anthony Hill Junior star,
- 43:20Speaker 3: like yeah, yeah, He's gonna do whatever he wants when
- 43:22Speaker 3: he is done playing for Michael Taff Star.
- 43:25Speaker 2: How cool was.
- 43:26Speaker 3: That that he went out on his own and obviously
- 43:29Speaker 3: tragic events in Texas and all like the flood victims
- 43:33Speaker 3: were on his tie like he went, he got that.
- 43:36Speaker 3: He he wanted to, you know, show respect and represent
- 43:40Speaker 3: them and remember them, like he went and got a
- 43:42Speaker 3: tie and had like all their initials sown into the tie.
- 43:45Speaker 3: He blew me like I could have talked to him
- 43:48Speaker 3: for three hours yesterday, Like he was highly highly impressive.
- 43:51Speaker 3: And we talked about with Jeff Levy a little bit
- 43:54Speaker 3: like the path to get here. This man Michael Taff
- 43:57Speaker 3: from Austin Westlake, huge, massive high school. Right he had
- 44:01Speaker 3: chances to go play in the IVY League and get
- 44:03Speaker 3: IVY League like scholarships through sports and academics. And said,
- 44:07Speaker 3: now I'm going to go better myself because I'm playing
- 44:09Speaker 3: in Texas.
- 44:11Speaker 2: And he said, was it easy? No, But That's what
- 44:13Speaker 2: I wanted to do. That's who I was, and he
- 44:15Speaker 2: went not only does he get it done, but now
- 44:17Speaker 2: he's coming back. He was All Conference last year. This
- 44:19Speaker 2: year he's a preseason All American. Yeah.
- 44:20Speaker 4: And I heard, you know on Radio row down at
- 44:25Speaker 4: the present on their I mean, there's a lot of
- 44:27Speaker 4: people that have been doing this a long time, doing
- 44:29Speaker 4: this job interview and listening to kids speak, and I
- 44:32Speaker 4: heard from multiple just kind of eavesdropping on different conversations
- 44:35Speaker 4: throughout the day and talking with people as well.
- 44:38Speaker 2: They're saying Texas.
- 44:40Speaker 4: And LSU have by far had the best representation of
- 44:43Speaker 4: their school in program. By the way the kids got
- 44:47Speaker 4: up there answered a question where at the same gene
- 44:50Speaker 4: we're confident. So Texas and LSU is kind of a
- 44:54Speaker 4: consensus like those were the two most impressive teams here
- 44:57Speaker 4: at media.
- 44:58Speaker 3: And that's not just look, we're not just like pumping
- 45:00Speaker 3: on Shohn for LSU here.
- 45:01Speaker 2: That is like, that is real thought. They did a
- 45:03Speaker 2: great job.
