- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey guys, Welcome back to Wisecracks. Bill Krachenberger over here
- 0:02Speaker 1: at the fabulous Westgates super Book. Listen. We just came
- 0:06Speaker 1: off a crazy Super Bowl weekend. I couldn't believe how
- 0:08Speaker 1: many people are online cashing tickets two and a half
- 0:10Speaker 1: hours after the game. The other day, you guys know,
- 0:14Speaker 1: sick weeks for props, I had one of my best
- 0:16Speaker 1: years ever in the history of betting sports on props.
- 0:20Speaker 1: The guys at Wager Talk that you know put on
- 0:22Speaker 1: this show. You really I gave you guys a seven
- 0:24Speaker 1: and oh package. That's impossible, like like I probably that's
- 0:27Speaker 1: I don't know, how do you go seven oh? You
- 0:29Speaker 1: got to lose something ten and three overall, But the
- 0:31Speaker 1: package was seven and oh. I've been talking about this
- 0:33Speaker 1: guy the last couple of weeks. One of the greatest
- 0:36Speaker 1: pool players to ever play the game. Undercover of the night,
- 0:39Speaker 1: kind of guy. I knew him when I was a kid.
- 0:41Speaker 1: He didn't know me, because why would he know me.
- 0:43Speaker 1: I was playing in pool halls. But he was the guy.
- 0:46Speaker 1: He's the guy that would come in and take off
- 0:47Speaker 1: a lot of the people. Rodney Morris, thanks for coming,
- 0:50Speaker 1: Thanks for being Thank you for havingreciate it. And yeah,
- 0:53Speaker 1: I met you down at the Golden Nugget actually officially
- 0:57Speaker 1: when I used to like run the joint, I had
- 0:58Speaker 1: like a combat at all times, you know. And uh, bump,
- 1:03Speaker 1: our quick mutual friend Bumper brought you over that time.
- 1:06Speaker 1: And that's what that's when I told you before off air,
- 1:09Speaker 1: I met Ginky, And Ginky was a really good pool player,
- 1:12Speaker 1: real sharp kid. I met him at west End Billiards,
- 1:15Speaker 1: but we actually met him more out here. He stayed
- 1:17Speaker 1: out here. We were out here together for like a week,
- 1:19Speaker 1: going out, hanging out. And he was a nice kid,
- 1:22Speaker 1: really really nice kid. He got to be on ESPN
- 1:24Speaker 1: and and unfortunately he was. He was He was like
- 1:28Speaker 1: walking down the street with a cab driver named Armond
- 1:31Speaker 1: that used to play and he got hit by a
- 1:34Speaker 1: chair that got thrown out a window and unfortunately that
- 1:38Speaker 1: was his downfall spiral. Poor kid hit with a chair
- 1:42Speaker 1: and then he wound up getting himself into some trouble
- 1:44Speaker 1: with with some other things. And the poor kid got
- 1:47Speaker 1: him saying he was one of the best. To a
- 1:48Speaker 1: sharp looking fast night and what a nice kid too,
- 1:52Speaker 1: like you a nice guy. Very unusual to see nice
- 1:54Speaker 1: guys in the pool world. No you uh Tony Robles
- 1:58Speaker 1: out of New York. I always thought we were great
- 2:00Speaker 1: guy in Yanky too. There were always really nice guys
- 2:03Speaker 1: in the poor world was as unusual. So but let's
- 2:07Speaker 1: go back to the beginning. When you were a kid.
- 2:09Speaker 2: You grew up in Hawaii, right, well, I was born
- 2:11Speaker 2: in California.
- 2:12Speaker 3: I was born in Orange County, Anaheim, right across from
- 2:15Speaker 3: Disneyland and nineteen seventy and my dad was military and
- 2:21Speaker 3: stationed out there. My mom's from Hawaii. My dad is
- 2:23Speaker 3: from Guam and he's a marine, still going and yeah
- 2:29Speaker 3: he's still going, but he's uh so.
- 2:31Speaker 2: And then they.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Split up when I was about a year and a
- 2:33Speaker 3: half old. So then then it was my stepdad was
- 2:37Speaker 3: you know sure, Oh I grew up with you know
- 2:39Speaker 3: who I knew.
- 2:39Speaker 2: But my dad was always around.
- 2:41Speaker 3: And so then in nineteen eighty we moved back to
- 2:45Speaker 3: or we moved to Hawaii. My mom wanted to go
- 2:48Speaker 3: back and I was ten years old, and then that's
- 2:50Speaker 3: where I grew up in Hawaii.
- 2:51Speaker 2: So I grew up on the beach.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Right, Okay, you grew up in Now, how did you
- 2:57Speaker 1: get in the pool? Were you playing pool? As a
- 2:58Speaker 1: kid in California, or when you got to Hawaii.
- 3:00Speaker 2: When I got to Hawaii.
- 3:01Speaker 3: So I was sixteen years old and I walked into
- 3:04Speaker 3: Hawaiian Brian, Hawaiian Brian's Billiards.
- 3:07Speaker 2: To play foosball. We used to play foosball again, sure,
- 3:09Speaker 2: and then we were waiting.
- 3:10Speaker 3: The line was super long, and then uh, so I
- 3:13Speaker 3: told my buddies, two of my friends, and said, let's uh.
- 3:15Speaker 2: I said, man, we.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Looked at the pool table. See you guys ever played pool?
- 3:17Speaker 3: And he says no. So we all played and about
- 3:20Speaker 3: we played you know how you played cutthroat with fifteen balls?
- 3:23Speaker 2: I heard you got to sink the other guy's balls
- 3:25Speaker 2: and whoever's balls.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Or left you know the last you know, five So
- 3:28Speaker 3: we played that for twenty five cents a man and
- 3:31Speaker 3: I and then about you know, about two hours later,
- 3:33Speaker 3: I got about like fourteen dollars worth of quarters. And
- 3:36Speaker 3: those guys never played pool again. And I never left
- 3:38Speaker 3: the pool table. Wow, So I picked it up so fast. Yeah,
- 3:41Speaker 3: the guys like, how the heck.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Did go for lessons? No one told you like, no, no, no,
- 3:45Speaker 1: I just picked it up.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Never played, never played a game of foosball since either
- 3:49Speaker 3: that was that was my my, my.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Uh.
- 3:52Speaker 2: It's one of those things, you know.
- 3:53Speaker 3: I always felt like, you know, if you could just find,
- 3:56Speaker 3: you know, something that you do really really well, like
- 3:59Speaker 3: you know, and and you know a lot of people
- 4:01Speaker 3: know they try other things that are not real good at.
- 4:03Speaker 3: I just happened to stumble onto the thing that I
- 4:05Speaker 3: was really good at, so that was cool.
- 4:07Speaker 1: So I grew up in North Jersey and Central Jersey
- 4:10Speaker 1: and around pool halls there, and I remember I was
- 4:14Speaker 1: playing somewhere. I don't know if it was somewhere in
- 4:19Speaker 1: Mammouth County. I know you were based out of You
- 4:22Speaker 1: actually wind up leaving Hawaii under Hawaiian guy on Brian's
- 4:27Speaker 1: Guys and then meeting Tony Kutucci who owned the ballroom,
- 4:30Speaker 1: and that was a Route nine in Tom's River.
- 4:33Speaker 2: I think that's right. I was based out of Toms
- 4:34Speaker 2: River and River, and.
- 4:36Speaker 1: I wound up seeing you somewhere and said, wow, this guy,
- 4:38Speaker 1: this guy is this kid. You were younger than me
- 4:40Speaker 1: a couple years. This kid's unbelievable. And now Tony knew
- 4:44Speaker 1: right away and actually took you on the road. So
- 4:46Speaker 1: you weren't playing entering tournaments where everyone would know you
- 4:50Speaker 1: you were kind of going undercover in the back rooms
- 4:52Speaker 1: or playing people for cash. Didn't really want to get
- 4:55Speaker 1: your name out there in tournaments where you may win
- 4:58Speaker 1: the first prize. At first, I'm saying you would play
- 5:01Speaker 1: cash games on the way up in my arm. But
- 5:03Speaker 1: even with the unknown guys, I would think, now you
- 5:05Speaker 1: tell me, maybe I'm wrong.
- 5:07Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I would just hang out And a lot
- 5:09Speaker 3: of times I would show up at a tournament and
- 5:11Speaker 3: lose on purpose and just kind of hang around and
- 5:13Speaker 3: look for action, you know, people, And most of the
- 5:15Speaker 3: times the tournaments, you know, if you if you could
- 5:17Speaker 3: win five thousand in a tournament or whatever, you could
- 5:20Speaker 3: play somebody.
- 5:20Speaker 2: For that for five thousand or ten thousand, no problems.
- 5:23Speaker 3: So it's like sometimes the tournaments were just kind of,
- 5:25Speaker 3: you know, a place to go look for my prey.
- 5:28Speaker 1: That's right now it is, it seems like it's the
- 5:31Speaker 1: exact opposite now by the way it seems like tournaments,
- 5:35Speaker 1: it seems like pool. Now there's not a lot of
- 5:37Speaker 1: gambling in the in the pool rooms like it was
- 5:39Speaker 1: back then. Back then, in the eighties and nineties, everyone
- 5:42Speaker 1: was gambling everyone's Now it's more of a maybe it's mainstream.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Maybe it's better actually for the game. But everyone was
- 5:49Speaker 1: gambling when I was. When I was in these pool rooms,
- 5:52Speaker 1: everyone was gambling. It just seems a little different now
- 5:54Speaker 1: I'm not really into pool no more. But it doesn't
- 5:56Speaker 1: from what I hear, From what I'm hearing, or is
- 5:59Speaker 1: it still that way? They have a billiards room here
- 6:01Speaker 1: they always go to. This is the better We're in
- 6:03Speaker 1: the building that everyone comes to pool. For pool, they
- 6:06Speaker 1: go to West Gate. This is where a lot of
- 6:07Speaker 1: the convention or tournaments are here. I see people carrying
- 6:10Speaker 1: around pool sticks all the time.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I get I leave for Hawaii tomorrow to train.
- 6:17Speaker 3: I go to Heilo, Hawaii from one of my good
- 6:19Speaker 3: friend's grandkids when they're ten, eleven, and twelve years old,
- 6:23Speaker 3: and they all they all run out and they'll be
- 6:25Speaker 3: here next week playing in the league here. It's an
- 6:28Speaker 3: amateur league, so they're all little kids. So there's a
- 6:30Speaker 3: lot of kids play. There'll be two hundred and fifty
- 6:32Speaker 3: thousand people here next week.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Got the pools. It's a big thing for the city.
- 6:37Speaker 1: It's a big thing for here. There's a lot of
- 6:38Speaker 1: people that come here. What about all those all those
- 6:42Speaker 1: nicknames you must have seen over time in the pool world.
- 6:47Speaker 1: You know, like how we let's ask you, how did
- 6:49Speaker 1: you get your nickname the Rocket? How'd you get that?
- 6:51Speaker 3: I just played super fastest and when I was young,
- 6:53Speaker 3: nobody knew my name. So they're just like, where does
- 6:55Speaker 3: that get is? He runs around the table like a rocket.
- 6:57Speaker 3: And then they are they're that rocket guy, come here.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Let's like so yeah, yeah, so so somebody actually was
- 7:03Speaker 3: a really good friend of mine that actually named me
- 7:06Speaker 3: my buddy Roy and Hawaii.
- 7:07Speaker 1: So where I grew up, Mammath County. I'll see if
- 7:09Speaker 1: you know some of these names. You have to know
- 7:11Speaker 1: some of these did you know like Neptune.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Joe or oh yeah, Joe, Freddy?
- 7:15Speaker 1: Did you know Blood out of Newark? Blood? Yeah? Oh
- 7:20Speaker 1: yeah yeah?
- 7:20Speaker 3: And Blood Gipsy, Bob you know Bob stevens Kelly, Bob out.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Of Hoboken, Yeah, everybody, everybody? Teddy? Did you know Teddy
- 7:29Speaker 1: the Greek?
- 7:29Speaker 2: Oh?
- 7:30Speaker 1: Teddy's air for what? Wow? So you know.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Tony knew him? Yeah?
- 7:36Speaker 3: So so Kid Delicious funny, he's I always joke around.
- 7:40Speaker 3: I never called it nobody delicious, right, but I usually
- 7:43Speaker 3: call him kids suspicious.
- 7:44Speaker 1: But now he is. He's uh, he was.
- 7:46Speaker 2: He was a good guy, but he was.
- 7:48Speaker 1: He was.
- 7:49Speaker 3: His dad used to come into the pool room and
- 7:51Speaker 3: Tom's river at the battleroom. They lived a couple of
- 7:52Speaker 3: miles from there, that's where That's where his house was.
- 7:54Speaker 3: But every time I would come to town, he was
- 7:56Speaker 3: on the road doing what I was doing. You know,
- 7:59Speaker 3: he was hustling pool something. You know, he's like And
- 8:01Speaker 3: most of the time when I came to town, you
- 8:02Speaker 3: would see a lot of the good players. All of
- 8:04Speaker 3: a sudden they're not around. They would make sure wherever
- 8:07Speaker 3: I'm at they go somewhere else.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Edi you know him. Yeah, a lot of the old
- 8:11Speaker 1: names I just thought about. I wrote him down just thinking.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Well one of the most famous guys was
- 8:15Speaker 3: I don't know if people know he was a pool player.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Was is John Hennighan.
- 8:19Speaker 1: I'm actually out of anybody in the pool world that
- 8:22Speaker 1: was in there. Uh, that's the person I'm closest to.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Oh yeads legend. He's a legend.
- 8:27Speaker 3: And yeah, yeah, yeah, And I remember, like it was yesterday,
- 8:31Speaker 3: it was it was him. Uh and uh was it
- 8:35Speaker 3: with the albino kid?
- 8:37Speaker 2: Was it Josh?
- 8:38Speaker 3: It was Josh, and then the Asian guy was another
- 8:40Speaker 3: Asian guy was three of them and they all started
- 8:42Speaker 3: playing poker.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Yeah, at the remember it was like.
- 8:46Speaker 3: They were playing they were playing poker, and the guys said,
- 8:48Speaker 3: oh no, he's he's there.
- 8:50Speaker 2: They don't play pool anymore. He's in. He's a big
- 8:52Speaker 2: time poker guy.
- 8:53Speaker 1: He left, he left, and he's he's one of the
- 8:55Speaker 1: greatest poker players. Yeah, plays the highest levels. One day,
- 8:59Speaker 1: me and being up walk into he said, let's go
- 9:02Speaker 1: see let's go see Flakes. I said, listen, he's up
- 9:04Speaker 1: there head to head playing Doyle and Doyle brunting. Maybe
- 9:06Speaker 1: we shouldn't do that right now. And so now we're
- 9:08Speaker 1: going right in and and and and Flakes is like
- 9:11Speaker 1: he's got like a million dollars in front of him.
- 9:13Speaker 1: He's like, hey, bump, let me, let me talk to
- 9:15Speaker 1: you after. It's a serious game we're playing here. Doyle
- 9:18Speaker 1: gave him a frown. But I wind up being friends
- 9:21Speaker 1: with Doyle too, though. But as far as Flake's Johnny
- 9:26Speaker 1: world isn't legend. Yeah, yeah, so his pool game was
- 9:29Speaker 1: back then? Was that good? I remember, you know, I
- 9:31Speaker 1: wrote down something about Flakes.
- 9:33Speaker 2: She could have been one of the best in the
- 9:34Speaker 2: world for a pool too. But there's no money in it.
- 9:36Speaker 1: There was no money in it.
- 9:37Speaker 2: That's exactly right.
- 9:37Speaker 1: I wrote something down about him. I was gonna bring
- 9:39Speaker 1: him up later. But since you brought him up, let's yeah,
- 9:43Speaker 1: strolls into the Philly pool room, pet Fusso's pool room.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Oh did you play Flakes in there? In that pool room?
- 9:48Speaker 2: I did that time.
- 9:49Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, Pete was a little better better, and so
- 9:52Speaker 3: I was. I would just go there and say no,
- 9:53Speaker 3: I can't play, I can't play you, and then and
- 9:55Speaker 3: then uh and and anyway, Flakes was the guy to
- 9:58Speaker 3: play anyway, right right, you would for you know, whatever
- 10:01Speaker 3: you wanted.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Yeah, he used to got a lot of gamble to him.
- 10:04Speaker 1: That's the reason why he's successful today. I think the
- 10:06Speaker 1: money he has today, which he has a lot of
- 10:08Speaker 1: money today, I think it's locked up now because he
- 10:11Speaker 1: would go through it doesn't matter. He wouldn't he win
- 10:13Speaker 1: millions and then blow it, you know what I mean.
- 10:15Speaker 1: He'll tell you he should be a good guy. I
- 10:16Speaker 1: should get him on a show because he'd be a
- 10:18Speaker 1: good guest talking about I've seen him at the taj
- 10:20Speaker 1: Mahall at the dice table, him and Josh. I just
- 10:26Speaker 1: can't believe he'd make all this money like on with
- 10:28Speaker 1: edges and then blow at the dice table. Yea, ta
- 10:32Speaker 1: get a worse of it, exactly right. But and you know, Fussco.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Jimmy was a really nice guy. I thought, too so wrong.
- 10:38Speaker 1: I want to put him in that that level of
- 10:40Speaker 1: nice guys. Jimmy was very I was with Grady Matthews.
- 10:44Speaker 1: He was a really nice, nice guy. Some of the
- 10:45Speaker 1: older names or the pool players were really nice for
- 10:48Speaker 1: the most part, compared to other athletes and other you know, celebrities.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Let's call him. You know, I know pool is just
- 10:55Speaker 1: doesn't get the respect at deserve. But that we're always
- 10:58Speaker 1: on ESPN, you know, I'm good almost good friends. When
- 11:00Speaker 1: Alan Hopkins, Alan Hopkins.
- 11:01Speaker 3: Was the guy that was on there International Challenging champions
- 11:05Speaker 3: he did every year, Yeah and yeah, yeah he did.
- 11:07Speaker 3: There was there was some there were some good times
- 11:09Speaker 3: that that Pool had some really good uh you know
- 11:12Speaker 3: airtime as far as yes, you know, getting on sports
- 11:15Speaker 3: so it was uh, you know, we've had some some
- 11:18Speaker 3: chances to get mainstream and to get in there. So
- 11:21Speaker 3: and I think now it's coming around again because with
- 11:24Speaker 3: the betting now, you know more so now somebody just
- 11:26Speaker 3: got to create a game.
- 11:27Speaker 2: You know, that's that's you know, conducive to the betting
- 11:30Speaker 2: world betting.
- 11:31Speaker 1: So I didn't I didn't know if you knew about
- 11:33Speaker 1: what happened out here at the Mirage. Jimmy McCarroll when
- 11:37Speaker 1: he opened up, he had the pool players coming here.
- 11:40Speaker 1: I think it was one hundred thousand dollars tournament. First
- 11:42Speaker 1: prize was fifty thousand. I could be wrong on the
- 11:44Speaker 1: prize money. It was definitely fifty thousand involved. So they
- 11:48Speaker 1: had a big tournament here and they had about sixteen
- 11:52Speaker 1: players and they had I have a video of it
- 11:54Speaker 1: of they had the odds from the board. They had
- 11:58Speaker 1: like from like five to one, eight to one, twelve
- 12:01Speaker 1: to one, all the way down to I believe it
- 12:03Speaker 1: was fifty to one on Luba Terror, I think it was.
- 12:07Speaker 1: It was a lub Baito. No, it was it was
- 12:09Speaker 1: Mike Lebron, Spanish like Lebron. Where did I get a
- 12:12Speaker 1: Terror from? He was a player to the back of
- 12:14Speaker 1: the day machine gun lou Right, how do I get that?
- 12:17Speaker 1: But Spanish MIKEA Lebron. He was the older guy probably
- 12:20Speaker 1: in the tournament two fifty to one, and the pool
- 12:24Speaker 1: players got together and said, wait a minute, what are
- 12:26Speaker 1: we doing here? We're banging out to try to get
- 12:28Speaker 1: this fifty thousand dollars. Let's let's just whack up the
- 12:31Speaker 1: money all the pool players and let's just bet on
- 12:34Speaker 1: the fifty to one Spanish mic and then he went
- 12:36Speaker 1: down to twenty to one. Bet him again, and Buddy
- 12:39Speaker 1: Hall in the finals with him the rifleman, Buddy Hall
- 12:44Speaker 1: and him in the finals. Uh the videos on YouTube,
- 12:48Speaker 1: just look for Buddy Hall verse Spanish, Mike Lebron. It's
- 12:53Speaker 1: pretty bad that last game. It's pretty bad, Buddy missus
- 12:57Speaker 1: straight ball or straight down down the table at nine?
- 13:00Speaker 1: It's uh but hey, uh, why do I root for
- 13:03Speaker 1: the bad guys and they're not even bad guys. Even
- 13:05Speaker 1: in the movies, I root for the bad guys. I'm
- 13:07Speaker 1: so happy someone took off a casino like that. I'm
- 13:10Speaker 1: here filming in a casino. I get so excited that that.
- 13:14Speaker 1: I mean, unfortunately, they would never have odds on a
- 13:16Speaker 1: pool torment again in a casino. But I've been to
- 13:19Speaker 1: so many different pool tormers. I played pool as a kid.
- 13:22Speaker 1: I had some of my best money scores. When I
- 13:25Speaker 1: was a kid who was playing pool, playing against guys
- 13:29Speaker 1: that were better than me, but me making they were
- 13:31Speaker 1: had they were such degenerate gamblers. They want to play,
- 13:34Speaker 1: they would. You would make a game that's so good
- 13:35Speaker 1: for you. You had to do that your whole life.
- 13:37Speaker 1: You're making games that you cannot lose. You actually have
- 13:40Speaker 1: to make it look good. I mean, how many times
- 13:42Speaker 1: in your life have you made your game like you said,
- 13:45Speaker 1: you used to lose on purpose? Am I right? Yeah?
- 13:47Speaker 3: Yeah, we call it matching up. You got to know
- 13:48Speaker 3: how to match up, right, You got to you match
- 13:50Speaker 3: up when you're the favorite. And people don't realize they
- 13:53Speaker 3: think pool is gambling. No, wool is a skill game.
- 13:56Speaker 3: So if we're playing, you know, most of the time
- 13:58Speaker 3: the game has already won before you even that's your start.
- 14:01Speaker 1: That's right, that's right.
- 14:02Speaker 3: You know I'm betting, you know you're betting money. But
- 14:04Speaker 3: but my skill is going to outdo your skill, right,
- 14:07Speaker 3: So that's that's the key.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Now, someone I someone I really thought and people that
- 14:12Speaker 1: are watching that are at no pool and no billiards.
- 14:16Speaker 1: I always thought Efrin Ray as not just because everyone
- 14:18Speaker 1: says it. I've watched the guy in multiple tournaments. I
- 14:22Speaker 1: probably was at ten different events watching this guy, and
- 14:25Speaker 1: I watched him his name is nickname is the magician, right, Yah,
- 14:29Speaker 1: I've watched him being a magician at that table. I
- 14:31Speaker 1: couldn't believe it. So, however, you and Fern were actually
- 14:34Speaker 1: pretty close. Yeah, and and you actually, uh, what was
- 14:38Speaker 1: the year you played him in the finals of what
- 14:42Speaker 1: it was the US Open?
- 14:43Speaker 2: Yes, that was nineteen ninety six.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Ninety six, that's my rookie year on tour. That was
- 14:48Speaker 1: your rookie year on So before that, I'm kind of
- 14:51Speaker 1: going out of order, and I apologize. Guys. Before that though,
- 14:54Speaker 1: you were what's your When was your first time going
- 14:56Speaker 1: to like Tom's River in New Jersey? Like like jd oh,
- 14:59Speaker 1: you didn't. Yeah, so I was eighty nine to going
- 15:01Speaker 1: on tour. What were you doing all those years? Was
- 15:03Speaker 1: Tony taking you on the road and hustling pool all
- 15:06Speaker 1: up and down the coast?
- 15:07Speaker 2: Yeah, not really hustling.
- 15:08Speaker 3: I remember the first time in nineteen eighty nine, we
- 15:10Speaker 3: walked into a pool room in South Carolina. Remember I
- 15:13Speaker 3: never left Hawaii to play pool at the time, So
- 15:16Speaker 3: we walked into this cool place, right, I don't know
- 15:18Speaker 3: where it was I forget maybe Jimmy Hodge's place. Okay,
- 15:21Speaker 3: a cute time. I forget what it was, and uh, Greenville,
- 15:24Speaker 3: South Carolina, and he says, just go and we hit
- 15:27Speaker 3: some balls, you know, and you know, see you know,
- 15:28Speaker 3: don't don't show too much. And then h and we're
- 15:32Speaker 3: looking for lower players to play. We're not trying to
- 15:35Speaker 3: play the best player. And I think it's the first
- 15:37Speaker 3: time that Tony saw me, and and like, you know,
- 15:40Speaker 3: try to try to like make it. I don't look
- 15:43Speaker 3: so good. And then after about ten minutes he's like,
- 15:45Speaker 3: he says, listen, kid, He said, this is no possible
- 15:48Speaker 3: way you can look bad. He said, you just look
- 15:51Speaker 3: too good at the table. He said, just ask any
- 15:53Speaker 3: of the best players if they want to play.
- 15:54Speaker 2: We'll going anywhere. Just ask who was the best player
- 15:56Speaker 2: I want to play them, because.
- 15:57Speaker 3: He said, you're not going to hustle nobody. You look
- 15:59Speaker 3: too good at the table. You couldn't even I couldn't
- 16:02Speaker 3: even look bad.
- 16:04Speaker 1: For the people listening to at home watching a home
- 16:07Speaker 1: That's what I thought when I seen you. I said,
- 16:08Speaker 1: holy shit, where did this kid come? I said, what
- 16:11Speaker 1: did this guy's unbelieving? No one ever heard of you,
- 16:13Speaker 1: like I knew all the top players. I was friends
- 16:15Speaker 1: with Steve miseraka my dad knew Steve's dad, you know,
- 16:18Speaker 1: Pert Damn. But in New Jersey, I knew Steve really well.
- 16:21Speaker 1: I knew I knew a lot of players. And I
- 16:24Speaker 1: just where did this guy come from? Why is any
- 16:26Speaker 1: playing pro? And and there was a there was a
- 16:28Speaker 1: billiard hole in Marlborough, New Jersey, I forget the name
- 16:31Speaker 1: is in Marble's right down the street on nine, about
- 16:33Speaker 1: ten miles up though, north of the ballroom. And I
- 16:40Speaker 1: hung on there. I hung out in Atlantic Coilands in
- 16:41Speaker 1: the pool room. I hung out in Keyport and a
- 16:44Speaker 1: boom Haslet.
- 16:45Speaker 2: I was all over.
- 16:46Speaker 1: But I also went on the road to those good rooms,
- 16:50Speaker 1: the chelseason, Amsterdam, or in New York pool rooms. And
- 16:54Speaker 1: I really really where I really got the pulse a
- 16:57Speaker 1: pool though, was West End Billiards and Elizabeth. That was
- 17:00Speaker 1: the place that I really got There they had a
- 17:02Speaker 1: poker game upstairs. They had their tournament once a week,
- 17:05Speaker 1: and some of the best guys in the world were
- 17:07Speaker 1: playing in that tournament at one time, you know, But
- 17:09Speaker 1: it was all the New York rounders that Tony Robles
- 17:11Speaker 1: Frankie Hernandez And did you play in that at all?
- 17:13Speaker 2: I did a lot every time I want, yeah, yeah, yeah, and.
- 17:18Speaker 1: You're playing against pros. Mister reck was in that room.
- 17:20Speaker 1: I mean, there's a lot of great players in that room.
- 17:24Speaker 1: And we used to play poker after. Uh. I worked
- 17:26Speaker 1: in a restaurant back then. I used to bring Hamburgers
- 17:29Speaker 1: for all the crow I used to bring bags at
- 17:30Speaker 1: Hamburger bags, you know the stuff, And that's why they
- 17:33Speaker 1: nicknamed me Burger Bill over there. I worked more blue
- 17:36Speaker 1: collar jobs. You guys were all hustled on the road.
- 17:38Speaker 1: But no, but it was a good time. Though. I
- 17:41Speaker 1: knew a lot about black jack card counting, someone taught me,
- 17:43Speaker 1: so it was good. It was. It was good times
- 17:45Speaker 1: before I was gambling full time. But that room, Chelsea Billiards.
- 17:49Speaker 1: I remember in walked the girl, the black widow. Oh yeah,
- 17:53Speaker 1: that Lee. And she was just like she was. First
- 17:55Speaker 1: of all, she was always dressed in black, real sexy girl.
- 17:58Speaker 1: But she would she would how you doing good to
- 18:01Speaker 1: see you? She would she would come in and she would,
- 18:04Speaker 1: uh just she was so good. But I don't think
- 18:08Speaker 1: she really had me money. She was just having guys.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Staker or put money off and they would put up
- 18:12Speaker 1: money for it because and she challenged all the guys
- 18:15Speaker 1: to play. She wanted up being I think she's one
- 18:17Speaker 1: of the best. She was one of the best female
- 18:19Speaker 1: players in the world. Am I saying it right? Yeah? Yeah?
- 18:21Speaker 2: In nineteen she she learned from a lot of us.
- 18:23Speaker 2: She used to come down to tell them. She came
- 18:24Speaker 2: to Hawaii and place.
- 18:26Speaker 3: She always she always wanted to learn from all the
- 18:28Speaker 3: best men players, right, because that's how you're gonna you know,
- 18:31Speaker 3: you know, you're gonna get better, right, So she and
- 18:34Speaker 3: then and then in nineteen ninety three, I think she
- 18:36Speaker 3: won the World Championship, unbelievable and that was kind of
- 18:38Speaker 3: catapulted her too. Yeah, you know, And it's funny because
- 18:41Speaker 3: she's every everywhere I go, you know, for decades.
- 18:45Speaker 2: A lot of people they don't even know pool, but
- 18:47Speaker 2: they said, can you beat the black widow?
- 18:48Speaker 1: Right? Right?
- 18:49Speaker 2: She was very famous in.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Front of all the pools. Is yeah, I mean there
- 18:53Speaker 1: were some great girls though. Iwa Mattia was great. Lori
- 18:57Speaker 1: John her father had a pool room in North Jersey,
- 18:59Speaker 1: Lord John Jones. But yeah, Sammy Jones was his name.
- 19:03Speaker 1: So from from that eighty nine to ninety six before
- 19:06Speaker 1: you became on the pro tour, and everyone what were
- 19:08Speaker 1: you doing those years you were down in South Carolina?
- 19:11Speaker 1: Were you going from different states looking for games? Or
- 19:14Speaker 1: he just said, you know, I forget it, just start
- 19:15Speaker 1: playing the best guys. Well, we used to.
- 19:18Speaker 3: He had a he used to have a book and
- 19:20Speaker 3: he used to have you know, every city we went to,
- 19:22Speaker 3: he knew who to play. He knew he knew who
- 19:24Speaker 3: to who, who could play for a lot of money,
- 19:27Speaker 3: and who to lose to. Let's say I went went
- 19:29Speaker 3: to someplace and I wanted to play somebody. Let's say
- 19:31Speaker 3: I was looking for you, and I know you bet big,
- 19:34Speaker 3: but there was one guy that that played just under you,
- 19:38Speaker 3: and I would go over there and I would lose
- 19:39Speaker 3: one hundred or two hundred bucks to.
- 19:40Speaker 2: That guy that's just under you while you're watching.
- 19:43Speaker 3: Sure, and then you're then you're asking me to play
- 19:45Speaker 3: now and then yeah, but you're the actual guy that I've.
- 19:48Speaker 1: Get the course.
- 19:49Speaker 3: Yeah, that's also and you know one move was a
- 19:52Speaker 3: good move that And everybody asked me all the time,
- 19:54Speaker 3: said do you ever get in trouble?
- 19:55Speaker 1: You know?
- 19:55Speaker 2: I said no, I'd tell everybody that you.
- 19:57Speaker 3: Know, I'm gonna I'm gonna win. I'm gonna you know,
- 19:59Speaker 3: I'm not trying to hustle you. I'm gonna beat you.
- 20:01Speaker 3: I won't say that you know I can't beat you.
- 20:03Speaker 3: I'm just gonna say I'll play. I'm the best player.
- 20:05Speaker 3: And then so you never get in trouble. But the
- 20:07Speaker 3: way we back then, remember no cell phones, so we
- 20:11Speaker 3: didn't take any chances. If we're in a pool room
- 20:14Speaker 3: and we went in twenty thirty thousand or whatever, yeah,
- 20:16Speaker 3: and you know we don't we're not from there. So
- 20:19Speaker 3: we call the fire department from the payphone or the
- 20:23Speaker 3: pool room phone. They just call the fire department and say, hey,
- 20:25Speaker 3: there's a fire. And when the fire department comes in
- 20:27Speaker 3: and they're like, oh, false alarmed, and we walk out
- 20:29Speaker 3: with them.
- 20:31Speaker 1: We never had a problem. What a good move.
- 20:33Speaker 3: Yeah, we never just in case you never want to
- 20:35Speaker 3: find out, you know, And most of the time, you know,
- 20:38Speaker 3: it's not the pool playing community that's going to do something.
- 20:41Speaker 3: It's people that are watching on the side that might
- 20:43Speaker 3: not be you know, real savory characters. You know, they
- 20:46Speaker 3: might be watching you with a bunch of money and.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Like, ah, let's get these guys or something.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Who knows.
- 20:50Speaker 1: You know, it's years ago. When you were you would
- 20:53Speaker 1: you would actually pray for rain up you know, when
- 20:56Speaker 1: you were all the it seems like whenever there was rain,
- 20:59Speaker 1: you get all the people, the construction workers, the painters,
- 21:02Speaker 1: the guys that come in and play. I want to
- 21:03Speaker 1: play for money, a little bit of money. When we
- 21:05Speaker 1: were kids, that's the days you want to well, you know,
- 21:07Speaker 1: so you're you're talking about these these these pool rooms
- 21:09Speaker 1: and walking out and you'd have to watch yourself. And
- 21:11Speaker 1: these construction guys were tough guys. They get mad when
- 21:14Speaker 1: their money gets ropped off them. So you would actually
- 21:17Speaker 1: say to him, hey, I'm gonna wins. You would act
- 21:21Speaker 1: that way, yeah whatever. Yeah.
- 21:22Speaker 3: The worst is when people get in trouble when they
- 21:24Speaker 3: try to play somebody and lose to them or perpose
- 21:27Speaker 3: and then get the bet jacked.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Up, and then they then they beat them. They're like,
- 21:30Speaker 2: you were hustling me.
- 21:31Speaker 3: I never had that. I'll just tell the guy, I'm
- 21:33Speaker 3: gonna beat you. You can't beat me, let me ask you.
- 21:36Speaker 1: There was one of their old time hustlers, uh top
- 21:39Speaker 1: Knox guy Jack Cooney, who actually knew Jack and played
- 21:43Speaker 1: with him very well. Yeah, yeah, he's a legendary guy.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Is he's still with us? Yeah, I think so, as
- 21:48Speaker 1: far as I know, Yeah, he was like one of
- 21:51Speaker 1: the old time. Was he from Philadelphia, I'm not.
- 21:54Speaker 3: Till today, I don't know where, but I know he
- 21:55Speaker 3: was based out of there when I was there at
- 21:56Speaker 3: that time in the nineties, and he was there all
- 21:58Speaker 3: the time.
- 21:58Speaker 2: And I saw him move on there. Like the most
- 22:01Speaker 2: incredible story a play of three months I ever seen.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Well he had well yet I remember he was. I
- 22:08Speaker 2: was watching him play three guys over this course of
- 22:11Speaker 2: like three months, and and all three of.
- 22:15Speaker 3: Those guys played the same level. So this is how
- 22:19Speaker 3: awesome he was. He would he would play let's say
- 22:21Speaker 3: the first guy. He would play the first guy first
- 22:23Speaker 3: day and he would lose five hundred to the guy
- 22:26Speaker 3: right then. Then then he would go to the next
- 22:27Speaker 3: guy and play him and he would beat him for
- 22:29Speaker 3: a thousand. Right then he would play the third guy
- 22:31Speaker 3: and lose five hundred. Then he would go back the
- 22:34Speaker 3: next time the guy that he lost five hundred too,
- 22:36Speaker 3: he would beat him for a thousand, and then the
- 22:37Speaker 3: guy that he beat him for a thousand, he would
- 22:39Speaker 3: lose back five hundred and he would always win a
- 22:41Speaker 3: thousand and five hundred yea and every.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Single and he did that. I saw him do it
- 22:46Speaker 2: for months, and I think he was there for years.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Did I never get to play him?
- 22:48Speaker 3: I never got to play him because he could have
- 22:51Speaker 3: played me at any time. He was that good of
- 22:53Speaker 3: a player, but he wouldn't because he was on a
- 22:55Speaker 3: different Yeah, you don't want.
- 22:56Speaker 1: To Oh yeah, you don't want to ruin your acts.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Let's talk about your dad. Now I heard this. I'm
- 23:03Speaker 1: a giant Elvis fan. So yeah, I'm a giant Elvis fan.
- 23:06Speaker 1: I took my parents to Graceland. I became an Elvis
- 23:09Speaker 1: fan when I when I was there. What what did
- 23:12Speaker 1: your dad do with Elvis?
- 23:14Speaker 3: So my dad might well, my stepdad, Fred Bruster, Fred Brewster,
- 23:17Speaker 3: he raised me until I was ten to go to Hawaii, right,
- 23:21Speaker 3: but then.
- 23:23Speaker 2: He was his bodyguard for Elvis.
- 23:25Speaker 3: So he was with Mike Stone and that grit that
- 23:27Speaker 3: got that got the contract and all that. So he
- 23:30Speaker 3: used to tell us, you know, and I remember one
- 23:32Speaker 3: time specifically, remember nineteen.
- 23:36Speaker 2: I think it was nineteen seventy six.
- 23:38Speaker 3: Yeah, about I was six years old and we were
- 23:40Speaker 3: living in Garden Grove, California. And then in the front
- 23:42Speaker 3: yard we had a big tree and they had those
- 23:44Speaker 3: you know, those leaves that are about this big and
- 23:46Speaker 3: covers the whole thing.
- 23:47Speaker 2: You can't it's about this all.
- 23:48Speaker 3: Yes, So my mom and and you know, and Fred
- 23:51Speaker 3: got into a big argument, right, and my and Fred
- 23:54Speaker 3: had four albums with Elvis stuff from back then, all
- 23:59Speaker 3: the Elvis four photo albums full and my mom took
- 24:02Speaker 3: it and put it in that yard like hiding it
- 24:05Speaker 3: from him. And when when he came back, she said
- 24:07Speaker 3: I burned him ome and all that. And then later
- 24:10Speaker 3: on when they made up, she you know, he said, oh,
- 24:12Speaker 3: they're just in the yard, right. We never found him.
- 24:15Speaker 3: Somebody saw the one four albums. So I always tell
- 24:17Speaker 3: my dad. I was telling him about that, remember that.
- 24:19Speaker 3: He said, yeah, your mom said she burned it, but
- 24:21Speaker 3: somebody must have saw her putting him.
- 24:22Speaker 2: And can you imagine four albums of all Elvis stuff back.
- 24:26Speaker 3: Then, somebody has somebody found it in Garden Grove, California.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Over there, I see photos with also Clint Eastwood.
- 24:36Speaker 2: He yeah, he bodyguard for Clint Eastwood.
- 24:38Speaker 3: Jerry Lewis, Yeah, he's a he's a he's a he
- 24:40Speaker 3: got inducted in the Martial.
- 24:42Speaker 2: Arts Hall of Fame.
- 24:44Speaker 3: He's Kempo Master, so he was under his first generation,
- 24:46Speaker 3: under Ed Parker. So that's all the that's when Elvis
- 24:49Speaker 3: was doing all the temple moves and all that that was.
- 24:52Speaker 3: He told me, he like, son, you know when you
- 24:55Speaker 3: know he's that funeral procession that Elvis had, he said,
- 24:59Speaker 3: Ed Parker's had more people there. Wow, that's how legendary
- 25:03Speaker 3: was Yeah, so wow, it was a great yeah. Yeah, yeah,
- 25:06Speaker 3: so he's a big Yeah. He used to tell me
- 25:07Speaker 3: all kinds of stories. Yeah, yeah, nice funny.
- 25:10Speaker 1: So now now we can go over to different and
- 25:13Speaker 1: and and you know, I'll go to this last the
- 25:17Speaker 1: photo last. But so now you play in some of
- 25:20Speaker 1: these big, big events and you're in the you're in
- 25:22Speaker 1: the US Open. Was that in Chesapeake Virginia? Chesapeake Virginia
- 25:26Speaker 1: I won a couple of times. Yeah, and you go
- 25:29Speaker 1: to the finals with yes, right.
- 25:31Speaker 3: And this is the nineteen nineteen ninety six, Yeah, September
- 25:35Speaker 3: ninety six.
- 25:36Speaker 1: I think it was wow. And that's the first time
- 25:38Speaker 1: you played with him before, because is the first time
- 25:40Speaker 1: you're playing with him, and this kind of a spotlight
- 25:42Speaker 1: where you think pressure. Would you're playing the magician, the
- 25:46Speaker 1: greatest player of all time, but you didn't let to
- 25:49Speaker 1: get to you.
- 25:49Speaker 2: You beat him.
- 25:50Speaker 3: Yeah, it was so I did something that year. That
- 25:54Speaker 3: was my first year on tour because after from nineteen
- 25:56Speaker 3: ninety five, I was in I was looking for a
- 25:59Speaker 3: game and Tulsa, Oklahoma. I never been in Oklahoma before.
- 26:03Speaker 3: And this is nineteen ninety five, in the summer of
- 26:06Speaker 3: ninety five, and I was playing, and I was making
- 26:09Speaker 3: some money and We're going to play the next day
- 26:10Speaker 3: for five thousand against a guy. And somebody came and
- 26:15Speaker 3: then they showed there was a pool and billiard magazine
- 26:18Speaker 3: and then the very very back of the magazine it
- 26:19Speaker 3: had a.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Little picture of me in it because I had played
- 26:22Speaker 2: in a tournament. So and then the guy came, no,
- 26:24Speaker 2: this is you and all that. Then never I never
- 26:26Speaker 2: got the game.
- 26:27Speaker 3: Then that's when I'm like, Okay, if i'm you know,
- 26:30Speaker 3: you know, everybody's gonna start knowing me.
- 26:32Speaker 2: So I can't really go undercover anymore. So I gotta play.
- 26:35Speaker 2: So nineteen ninety six is when I started playing. You know,
- 26:37Speaker 2: that was my rookie year on tour.
- 26:40Speaker 3: And uh, and I'm but every every tournament that we
- 26:43Speaker 3: went to, I would I would ask Effron to play
- 26:46Speaker 3: because Effron was.
- 26:47Speaker 2: The He's the reason why I wanted to play pool.
- 26:49Speaker 2: I wanted to be just like him. Oh my god,
- 26:50Speaker 2: that's my idol.
- 26:51Speaker 3: So I would play him race to seven for one
- 26:53Speaker 3: hundred bucks every before the start of every tournament that year,
- 26:57Speaker 3: and we would play five sets.
- 26:59Speaker 2: And I never want to set.
- 27:01Speaker 1: You're just basically I'm learning umber.
- 27:03Speaker 2: Losting lesson.
- 27:04Speaker 3: Yeah, basically. So I would lose five hundred to him
- 27:06Speaker 3: every every tournament. And then now fast forward, you know,
- 27:09Speaker 3: like eight months later, we're in the I'm in the
- 27:11Speaker 3: finals of the US Open with him and I'm playing him.
- 27:16Speaker 1: This guy that beat you and all these sets and stuff.
- 27:19Speaker 2: Wow.
- 27:20Speaker 3: Yeah, and the and the US Open ninth ball. That
- 27:22Speaker 3: was the biggest tournament in the world at the time.
- 27:23Speaker 3: Of course, yeah that was the biggest. It's still a
- 27:26Speaker 3: great tournament to it, but it's uh, that was everybody
- 27:29Speaker 3: wanted to win that one.
- 27:30Speaker 2: So I beat that.
- 27:30Speaker 3: Frind And I remember Franki Ernandis was in the front
- 27:33Speaker 3: and talk about gambling. There was a whole entourage right
- 27:35Speaker 3: outside before the finals, and uh, and I was with
- 27:39Speaker 3: Frankie and Tony Roblez, you know. And so Frankie's out
- 27:41Speaker 3: there and he goes out there Spanish mic is there.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Everybody's there, and.
- 27:46Speaker 3: Frankie says, anybody want to better on the frin I'll
- 27:49Speaker 3: take the kid.
- 27:50Speaker 2: Wow, And nobody said a word.
- 27:52Speaker 1: You're kidding me. Nobody said you can ask about to
- 27:54Speaker 1: be a dollars fifty over you too, I mean, yeah,
- 27:57Speaker 1: a big favorite.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Right in that situation, He's like, He's like, nobody.
- 27:59Speaker 1: Will to bet.
- 28:00Speaker 3: He said, you got the best player in the world.
- 28:01Speaker 3: I mean, you got this kid from Hawaii, you know,
- 28:04Speaker 3: you know, and nobody want to bet. He said, effort,
- 28:06Speaker 3: you gotta fire all these guys.
- 28:07Speaker 2: That's what he told them. Nobody would bet a quarter.
- 28:10Speaker 1: That's unbelievable.
- 28:11Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, frank Till today I tell frank about that story,
- 28:14Speaker 3: He's like, yeah, I can't believe nobody would bet because.
- 28:16Speaker 2: They knew, they knew they saw me.
- 28:19Speaker 1: I always thought about Frankie. He was a great local
- 28:21Speaker 1: player there, and but he was always so cocky and arrogant.
- 28:24Speaker 2: I thought, but he was great.
- 28:26Speaker 1: He was great, id right, And you just told me
- 28:28Speaker 1: though that he actually had a good job and retires
- 28:31Speaker 1: from it that's great. That's great because he's these good
- 28:34Speaker 1: guyers that made all this money and the little bit
- 28:36Speaker 1: of money in the pull in the beginning, they have
- 28:38Speaker 1: nothing in the future. I'm glad someone got out and
- 28:40Speaker 1: made some money. And Tony Robbles down in Florida. I
- 28:43Speaker 1: was teaching lessons and stuff.
- 28:44Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, he travels around. He does a lot of stuff.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Good guy, good guy, great guy.
- 28:48Speaker 1: You know, I lived for a while in North Carolina
- 28:52Speaker 1: and there was a pool tournament down there.
- 28:54Speaker 2: I knew that.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Steve told me he was going down. Steve Mizerak going
- 28:58Speaker 1: down this local pool hall in Raleigh, North Carolina.
- 29:02Speaker 2: And that's it. Yeah, that's it.
- 29:06Speaker 1: And Johnny Archer, I think he was either from there
- 29:10Speaker 1: or he was living there. He was living there, and
- 29:12Speaker 1: I thought he was one of the greatest players. And
- 29:14Speaker 1: you've had some good interaction with him over the years.
- 29:16Speaker 3: Yeah, Johnny's great. Yeah, player of the decade in the nineties.
- 29:19Speaker 3: Scoppick about that. That's how good he was, such a
- 29:22Speaker 3: good player. But I want to give you're gonna you're
- 29:24Speaker 3: gonna laugh when you hear my favorite player. He was
- 29:27Speaker 3: from He was from down the road there. He was
- 29:29Speaker 3: from down the road North Carolina. Earl Strickland.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I loved Earl and uh, I know he
- 29:37Speaker 1: was not liked by a lot of people, but I
- 29:40Speaker 1: thought Earl Strickland was great. I thought he was a
- 29:42Speaker 1: great player. I thought he used to talk during the match.
- 29:46Speaker 1: He was like, you know, maybe a little bit of
- 29:47Speaker 1: a cry baby. But I loved him. Yeah, I love
- 29:50Speaker 1: that's part of a stick, part of his act, Earl,
- 29:52Speaker 1: Earl the Pearl. You played him, I'm sure before.
- 29:55Speaker 3: Oh yeah, so the two guys, it's it's great that
- 29:58Speaker 3: you brought him up. So in nineteen you know, eighty
- 30:02Speaker 3: seven or eighty six is when the color of money
- 30:05Speaker 3: came out right and everybody wanted to play pool, right,
- 30:08Speaker 3: So that's when I started. Well then, now I started
- 30:10Speaker 3: watching pool a little bit, you know, right then, and
- 30:13Speaker 3: the two players that I wanted to be like, I
- 30:15Speaker 3: wanted to have the finesse of Efren Reyes.
- 30:18Speaker 2: And the power of Earl Strickland.
- 30:19Speaker 4: Wow.
- 30:20Speaker 3: And then if you ever, if you get a chance,
- 30:22Speaker 3: anybody can look at in the finals of the nineteen
- 30:24Speaker 3: ninety six US Open, nine ball, Steve Miserak is commentating
- 30:28Speaker 3: and we became really good friends, you know, from back
- 30:30Speaker 3: then he used to come to Hawaii all the time.
- 30:32Speaker 3: And Steve is commentating on this match, and at one
- 30:34Speaker 3: point he says in that in that match.
- 30:37Speaker 2: He says, he says, he said, this kid, he said he's.
- 30:40Speaker 3: Got the power of Earl Strickland and the finesse of
- 30:42Speaker 3: Efron rays that.
- 30:44Speaker 1: I was like, oh, dude, what do I do? After that?
- 30:46Speaker 2: I knew I was downhill after that.
- 30:49Speaker 1: Stricklan was from Greensborough, I believe.
- 30:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I think originally Goldsboro or something like that. But yeah,
- 30:54Speaker 2: right there.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Country town by Greenville actually, yeah, yeah, and he did
- 30:59Speaker 1: some I was there, I was somewhere where he ran
- 31:03Speaker 1: these racks. He won a million bucks. Yeah, you know
- 31:05Speaker 1: what that was?
- 31:06Speaker 5: That was that?
- 31:06Speaker 3: That was that same week that I went up to Tulsa, Oklahoma,
- 31:09Speaker 3: because we we were playing in the tournament in Dallas, Texas.
- 31:12Speaker 1: C J.
- 31:12Speaker 2: Wilie's place.
- 31:14Speaker 1: He did that. That was the one.
- 31:15Speaker 2: Yeah, they put on a million.
- 31:16Speaker 3: Dollar dollar challenge if anyone can run break and run
- 31:19Speaker 3: ten racks, bak and run ten racks, and of course no.
- 31:21Speaker 1: One's gonna be able to do that. That's nine ball,
- 31:23Speaker 1: pretty nine ball, right, yeah, pretty hard to run ten
- 31:26Speaker 1: racks on this special promotional time. Earl strick On ran
- 31:31Speaker 1: ten racks broke and ran ten for million, and the
- 31:35Speaker 1: company didn't want to pay him something. Yeah, I wand
- 31:37Speaker 1: up buying out for like six hundred thousand or so. Yeah,
- 31:40Speaker 1: they bought out. Whatever they we're gonna go bankrupt the
- 31:42Speaker 1: rest we can pay half the money or something like that.
- 31:45Speaker 1: But yeah, he was a great, great player. Yeah still yeah,
- 31:48Speaker 1: still a great player. Do you ever see him still?
- 31:50Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 31:51Speaker 4: I do.
- 31:51Speaker 2: I talked to him all the time. I talked to
- 31:52Speaker 2: him last week.
- 31:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I want to start a podcast on my own
- 31:56Speaker 3: little pool podcast. I hope you do it, and we're
- 31:58Speaker 3: gonna do it on there and do some instructional stuff
- 32:00Speaker 3: and all that.
- 32:00Speaker 2: He's a great he's great too.
- 32:02Speaker 1: Yeah he's up for it.
- 32:03Speaker 2: Yeah, he's up for it.
- 32:04Speaker 3: But one thing we did in two thousand and eight, Uh,
- 32:07Speaker 3: buddy of mine reached out to me and he says,
- 32:09Speaker 3: I was in Japan doing challenge matches, you know, pretty
- 32:12Speaker 3: famous in Japan, and we're going around and he says,
- 32:15Speaker 3: you know, you think he could ever bring Earle here?
- 32:18Speaker 3: And then so I went back home and then I
- 32:20Speaker 3: and I called Earl and I said, Earl, I said
- 32:22Speaker 3: I got a deal, he said, We'll go. We'll go
- 32:24Speaker 3: to Japan and do challenge matches and exhibitions, you know,
- 32:27Speaker 3: for thirty nine days in a row, different city in Japan. Wow,
- 32:31Speaker 3: and we love We did it until today, he said, Dude,
- 32:34Speaker 3: that was one of the best times I ever had,
- 32:35Speaker 3: thirty nine days.
- 32:36Speaker 2: In a row.
- 32:37Speaker 1: You I didn't really. So you've been all over the world.
- 32:39Speaker 2: I took me.
- 32:39Speaker 1: Maybe you're in England or Europe. You've been all over
- 32:41Speaker 1: Europe and in Asia. You've been all over the world.
- 32:44Speaker 2: In Taiwan, my nickname is the King of the Money Games.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Wow.
- 32:47Speaker 2: Yeah, wow.
- 32:49Speaker 1: And it seems like that over she's money. The money's
- 32:54Speaker 1: better it is overseas, Like maybe is it the billiards
- 32:56Speaker 1: guys or something, the billiard community. It just seems like
- 32:59Speaker 1: they there's more money in pool overseas.
- 33:02Speaker 3: It's a lot, a lot bigger. There's a lot more
- 33:05Speaker 3: corporate investment, you know. So and and it's, uh, it's
- 33:09Speaker 3: amazing to me that here in the United States. You know,
- 33:12Speaker 3: pool is an American pastime, right and we don't have
- 33:14Speaker 3: a professional tour. Yeah, we don't have one right now.
- 33:17Speaker 3: It's like it's you know, there's a definite need right
- 33:20Speaker 3: now for it.
- 33:21Speaker 1: So so what do you not now is a perfect opportunity.
- 33:23Speaker 1: Then what are you doing now? Uh? In the pool world?
- 33:26Speaker 1: What do you got going? What's this new thing you
- 33:28Speaker 1: start on?
- 33:29Speaker 3: So I'm starting a professional tour in the USA, So
- 33:31Speaker 3: it's uh, and that's why I wanted to come on here,
- 33:33Speaker 3: mostly because I created my own all offense game and
- 33:37Speaker 3: scoring system for pool. Okay, So so thank golf, bowling, darts,
- 33:41Speaker 3: any game where you just shoot your number. Well, what
- 33:44Speaker 3: that does is because we're able to keep accurate statistics
- 33:47Speaker 3: for first time ever in Poolkay, it's a natural fit
- 33:50Speaker 3: for the betting. So that's where you know, uh, you know,
- 33:53Speaker 3: I'd like to get you know, that that traction going
- 33:56Speaker 3: and starting, you know, get some conversations with you know,
- 33:58Speaker 3: some people in the betting world, because just off the
- 34:01Speaker 3: top of my head, I figured out that they're in
- 34:04Speaker 3: a fifteen week season, there's gonna be at least a
- 34:09Speaker 3: million possible bets.
- 34:11Speaker 2: Somebody can make.
- 34:12Speaker 1: Wow.
- 34:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm like, that's and we're creating a whole new
- 34:15Speaker 3: sport that doesn't exist, a whole new market.
- 34:18Speaker 2: So that's a conversation I like to have with the
- 34:20Speaker 2: right people and see.
- 34:22Speaker 1: You know, you maybe think about getting one of the
- 34:23Speaker 1: big books behind them, like a DraftKings or fan or.
- 34:25Speaker 2: That'd be great. That'd be great. It's a natural fit.
- 34:28Speaker 2: I mean, it's a.
- 34:29Speaker 1: Maybe Westgate here because they are so much they are
- 34:34Speaker 1: so happy to have the fool players here. Like you said,
- 34:37Speaker 1: I think it's twice a year. I see this place
- 34:40Speaker 1: sold out. You'll get a room. Everyone's carrying sticks and cue.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Oh now what you're carrying your cue? Do you just
- 34:45Speaker 1: carry a queue everywhere just in case? No.
- 34:48Speaker 3: I got a buddy of mine that wants a pool
- 34:49Speaker 3: lesson after this, so I told him I'm gonna I'm
- 34:51Speaker 3: gonna go.
- 34:51Speaker 2: I'm gonna go give.
- 34:52Speaker 3: Him a lesson. Yeah, I'm only in town for one day.
- 34:54Speaker 3: So he was like, he said, can you you know,
- 34:56Speaker 3: I need some help with my game. And I think
- 34:57Speaker 3: he's trying to get ready for that next week'.
- 35:00Speaker 1: So now I told you Greg Balabushka, his father was
- 35:03Speaker 1: the famous pool que maker Palabusha and Valabushka. That's that's
- 35:08Speaker 1: like the George George Is Georgie's is George's cues are
- 35:14Speaker 1: They still known as one of the best cues in
- 35:17Speaker 1: the game.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Oh yeah, wow.
- 35:18Speaker 3: There it's like one of those pieces of art that
- 35:22Speaker 3: just stands at test of time. Balabushka, Zambodi, all of that.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Yeah, they're all. Yeah. I have to tell Greg that.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Greg followed me on Twitter. I followed him back and
- 35:30Speaker 1: I said, this can't be the same. Balabushka. Yeah, that
- 35:32Speaker 1: was my dad. My dad. Uh and and Greg came
- 35:35Speaker 1: to Vegas. Pretty cool, but that was the most famous
- 35:38Speaker 1: pool cue. Everyone wanted to.
- 35:39Speaker 3: Vaalabushka and and you know when they're gone, that's when
- 35:42Speaker 3: all the value goes up, because anything happens to it,
- 35:44Speaker 3: you ain't never getting it again.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Yeah. So that's when he died.
- 35:47Speaker 1: I think he died in the seventies, George, So that's
- 35:50Speaker 1: why his stick was probably uh, it was probably his
- 35:53Speaker 1: sticks that he made, and he only makes so many.
- 35:56Speaker 2: So yeah, let me see if I could pull it up.
- 36:00Speaker 1: George. Yeah, George died in nineteen seventy five. So George
- 36:03Speaker 1: nineteen twelve nineteen seventy five Russian born billiard's queue maker,
- 36:08Speaker 1: arguably one of the most prominent members of that profession,
- 36:11Speaker 1: so his full name and last name stands alone referred
- 36:15Speaker 1: to a custick making acoustic making in the United the
- 36:18Speaker 1: United States, so it originally made them out.
- 36:20Speaker 2: Wow, it's so cool.
- 36:21Speaker 1: It's just great, great stories on the Ballotbushkers and his cues,
- 36:26Speaker 1: and I know there's some of them are like five figures,
- 36:29Speaker 1: like ten grand depends on the inlays.
- 36:31Speaker 3: Right, I mean, I don't think you'll find even the
- 36:34Speaker 3: most plainest one that they were selling for like one
- 36:36Speaker 3: hundred and seventy five bucks back then.
- 36:38Speaker 2: You can't get it for less than six seven thousand.
- 36:40Speaker 1: Now that's actually that's unbelievable. So when are you start
- 36:45Speaker 1: in the pool? When are you you're looking to start
- 36:47Speaker 1: this up by the summer.
- 36:49Speaker 3: Yeah, as soon as we get I'm talking with a
- 36:51Speaker 3: couple there's an energy drink energy drink sponsor that's wants
- 36:55Speaker 3: on board.
- 36:55Speaker 2: And then I got a couple of investors.
- 36:57Speaker 3: So the biggest thing is we got to get the
- 36:59Speaker 3: you know, partner with the right you know is if
- 37:01Speaker 3: it's going to be a streaming platform or a network
- 37:03Speaker 3: that wants to take it on.
- 37:04Speaker 2: But we're going to own pool, so.
- 37:06Speaker 3: There's no there is no professional USA tour, and we're
- 37:09Speaker 3: modeling it after the.
- 37:10Speaker 2: PGA tour model.
- 37:11Speaker 3: So it's going to be the exact same same kind
- 37:13Speaker 3: of a structure where you earn your tour card, you know,
- 37:16Speaker 3: you know, the television or streaming platform, and then the betting.
- 37:19Speaker 1: You know. Alan Hopkins has that big show that he
- 37:22Speaker 1: had those every year. I think it's like April and
- 37:24Speaker 1: in Pennsylvania. Right.
- 37:25Speaker 2: Do you have ever been super Billier's extras?
- 37:27Speaker 1: I'll be there there, You're gonna be there.
- 37:28Speaker 2: I go every year.
- 37:29Speaker 1: Oh do you?
- 37:29Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 37:30Speaker 1: I went. I went, like one of the first years.
- 37:32Speaker 1: I like Allan a lot. Yeah, Allan. I also can
- 37:35Speaker 1: call him a friend. I've been with him many times.
- 37:37Speaker 1: I'm gonna say, if I can get him on, he'll
- 37:38Speaker 1: come on. I'm sure to promote the show.
- 37:40Speaker 2: Yea year. He's a great guy.
- 37:41Speaker 1: You've been to that the billiards.
- 37:43Speaker 3: I won the very first nineteen ninety three when he
- 37:46Speaker 3: had it in the Metal Ends Seacaucus.
- 37:48Speaker 2: I won the very first amateur event nineteen ninety three
- 37:51Speaker 2: because I was going to play the pro event.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Sure.
- 37:53Speaker 3: And then and he goes, he says, you know, I'm
- 37:56Speaker 3: doing an amateur thing here. And then I said, really,
- 37:59Speaker 3: so yeah, you know you don't play on the pro tour,
- 38:01Speaker 3: you can play in it.
- 38:01Speaker 1: Wow?
- 38:02Speaker 3: And I said everybody's gonna get mad. And he goes, oh,
- 38:04Speaker 3: he said, you don't play, You're not professional, you know,
- 38:06Speaker 3: so you know? And then uh so then and I said, well,
- 38:09Speaker 3: where's it played on? He says, on these tables? And
- 38:11Speaker 3: he pointed to a sea of about one hundred and
- 38:13Speaker 3: twenty eight tables and there were seven foot tables. And
- 38:16Speaker 3: I've never seen a seven foot table before. Wow, so
- 38:18Speaker 3: I said, I said, I said, really, see, you ever
- 38:20Speaker 3: played on the bar tables, you know, the small tables
- 38:22Speaker 3: because we play on nine foot tables.
- 38:24Speaker 2: And then so I hit a couple of balls on it.
- 38:26Speaker 2: I said, how do you ever miss on this thing?
- 38:27Speaker 2: So I never missed the ball the whole week. Yeah,
- 38:30Speaker 2: it was no one got mad that you be.
- 38:32Speaker 1: They really didn't.
- 38:33Speaker 2: I couldn't played ever again. But that was the first one.
- 38:35Speaker 2: They were like, yeah, no pros.
- 38:36Speaker 1: And I heard you rob my man Kevin Clark over
- 38:41Speaker 1: Clarks up strant and that's funny. Well, he I like,
- 38:44Speaker 1: I like, he wants you to play. Well, he wanted
- 38:46Speaker 1: to play. He's happy to lose his money to you,
- 38:48Speaker 1: he called me. He doesn't lose much money. Cool, Yeah,
- 38:50Speaker 1: tell you that he's a great pool.
- 38:51Speaker 3: Play well, what happened was, I think he's seen me
- 38:53Speaker 3: at the Super Billier's Expo that year and I could
- 38:56Speaker 3: not make a ball. But he didn't know why. Oh,
- 38:59Speaker 3: he just saw he couldn't make a ball, and he
- 39:00Speaker 3: was telling somebody, you guys said, Roundie, don't play like
- 39:03Speaker 3: he used to. Wow, And then I was and then
- 39:05Speaker 3: I heard that, and then I so then I started
- 39:08Speaker 3: practicing a little bit, and then I and I got
- 39:10Speaker 3: a right queue. I didn't have the right queue. That
- 39:11Speaker 3: that's you know, I didn't have any que actually. And
- 39:14Speaker 3: then because I was kind of phasing, you know, kind
- 39:16Speaker 3: of just teaching. Sure, so I was like I wasn't
- 39:17Speaker 3: really focused on playing. But then and then he then
- 39:20Speaker 3: he messages me and said, hey, when you're coming up
- 39:21Speaker 3: and doing your clinic, you want to play something, I'll
- 39:23Speaker 3: play like fifteen hundred and this. And then and I'm like,
- 39:26Speaker 3: you play on in his pool, his pool, on his
- 39:28Speaker 3: home table.
- 39:28Speaker 2: Yeah, his his table. Yeah.
- 39:30Speaker 1: But it was fun. It's actually listen, I know you
- 39:35Speaker 1: were one of the best, but Kevin on his home table. Wow,
- 39:40Speaker 1: I think he's setting you up for a big one. Yeah, yeah, he's.
- 39:44Speaker 2: Yeah, hopefully he messages me again.
- 39:46Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh, he's a good guy. He is nice, such
- 39:49Speaker 1: a nice guy. I always hope he does well.
- 39:52Speaker 2: Yeah, he know, he does good over there at that point,
- 39:53Speaker 2: and he does.
- 39:54Speaker 1: You know, it's such a dying sport. You have to
- 39:56Speaker 1: try to get these leagues. You have to try to
- 39:58Speaker 1: get you know, leagues are a big thing, trying to
- 39:59Speaker 1: get people in and up there up there too. It
- 40:02Speaker 1: snow's up there a lot, so he has a lot
- 40:04Speaker 1: of people. You know, you want an indoor thing. You
- 40:06Speaker 1: really can't play golf. Yeah, it snow's three four five
- 40:09Speaker 1: months out of the year. There freezing cold there right now,
- 40:12Speaker 1: almost everywhere.
- 40:13Speaker 2: That's where I used to go.
- 40:14Speaker 3: So you know, I'm living in Hawaii, you know, so
- 40:16Speaker 3: at the time, all those years, and I wouldn't fly
- 40:19Speaker 3: out to Jersey until at least September because we want
- 40:22Speaker 3: the weather to be bad that way. Everybody's indoors, right,
- 40:25Speaker 3: So I sense to be out there in the summer.
- 40:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't be there in the summer now. And
- 40:28Speaker 1: now you're living outside of Atlanta.
- 40:30Speaker 2: Georgia, Yeah, Rome, Georgia. Yeah, what do you know?
- 40:33Speaker 1: What do you what do you do there? Do you
- 40:34Speaker 1: have a home pool hall there or you don't really play.
- 40:37Speaker 2: Too much there.
- 40:38Speaker 3: I opened the Poolroom with Johnny Archer actually, but we
- 40:40Speaker 3: closed it down.
- 40:41Speaker 2: It was it was about a year ago.
- 40:44Speaker 3: But now I'm focusing on doing the tour, the Rocket
- 40:47Speaker 3: Pool Tour, So I'm getting that and focusing all my
- 40:49Speaker 3: energy on creating tour because in twenty sixteen I got
- 40:53Speaker 3: inducted into the Hall of Fame and it was right
- 40:56Speaker 3: at that point that I decided that I want to
- 40:59Speaker 3: focus the rest of my life everything I do to
- 41:01Speaker 3: give back and help help, you know, prepare the way
- 41:04Speaker 3: for the future.
- 41:05Speaker 1: Like I said, You've always been one of the nicest
- 41:06Speaker 1: guys in this game.
- 41:07Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 41:08Speaker 1: And where where can people find you or find more
- 41:10Speaker 1: information about this tournament?
- 41:12Speaker 3: Go to the rocket Pool Tour dot com or yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 41:17Speaker 3: just spell it out the rocket Pool Tour dot com
- 41:19Speaker 3: and then uh and I got my contact information on there,
- 41:22Speaker 3: or just find me anywhere. So yeah, I'm looking to
- 41:24Speaker 3: get this started, but we got to get everything. You know,
- 41:26Speaker 3: obviously it takes money to do it right.
- 41:28Speaker 2: So yeah, you know, we need to get the right sponsors.
- 41:31Speaker 3: Nobody has figured out a way to get the corporate
- 41:35Speaker 3: guys involved right and also make it a successful business.
- 41:38Speaker 2: Model, right.
- 41:39Speaker 3: So, and it's because we haven't changed the game. It's
- 41:42Speaker 3: over one hundred years we've been playing pool the same way.
- 41:44Speaker 1: Unbelievable, over one hundred years offensive all defense store.
- 41:48Speaker 3: Yeah, so you're gonna all I did was I just
- 41:51Speaker 3: took away all the fluff. All I cut off all
- 41:53Speaker 3: the fat from pool and left all the meat that
- 41:55Speaker 3: everybody wants.
- 41:56Speaker 2: Wow, And that's it.
- 41:57Speaker 3: So when you're watching it, you're gonna see all shot
- 41:59Speaker 3: making all so. Yeah, So when you're watching TV right
- 42:01Speaker 3: now on these channels, you're gonna look, you're gonna see
- 42:03Speaker 3: stuff that you actually want to see. You're not going
- 42:05Speaker 3: to see all like defensive strategy. Nobody can sit around
- 42:08Speaker 3: for three hours and watch a chess match anymore.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Sure they want wants to watch play safe And that's.
- 42:14Speaker 2: Not what we want to see.
- 42:15Speaker 3: And I'm talking about one hundred million people that that's
- 42:16Speaker 3: going to sustain a sport.
- 42:18Speaker 1: Play safe guys, for you guys that don't know, play
- 42:20Speaker 1: safe is actually you're you're hitting a ball, so and
- 42:23Speaker 1: you're hiding your ball behind another ball. It's it's a strategy.
- 42:27Speaker 1: Defensive strategy. Yeah, yeah, So I.
- 42:29Speaker 2: Took that out.
- 42:30Speaker 3: And when you think of golf. Even golf is just
- 42:32Speaker 3: as a it's a it's a you know, similar game
- 42:35Speaker 3: to pool. Golf is all offense, right, nobody's nobody's playing
- 42:38Speaker 3: defense on each other.
- 42:39Speaker 2: They're just trying to shoot your best score. Bowling, you're
- 42:41Speaker 2: just trying to make a strike at the time. Same thing. Darts,
- 42:44Speaker 2: you're just trying to score as much as that guy.
- 42:46Speaker 2: So that's what we did.
- 42:47Speaker 3: We changed the game, change the rules, and we stumbled
- 42:49Speaker 3: onto the statistics. Like I said, now we're gonna like wow,
- 42:53Speaker 3: now we can be on that level with all the
- 42:55Speaker 3: other major major sports.
- 42:57Speaker 1: Well, Rodney Morris, thanks for coming on. Let us appreciate it,
- 42:59Speaker 1: and I appreciate you coming in just for this, and
- 43:01Speaker 1: I hope I wish you my success in this and
- 43:04Speaker 1: I hope that this takes off.
- 43:05Speaker 2: Yes, thank you very much. I appreciate it. I'll proud
- 43:07Speaker 2: all right.
- 43:08Speaker 1: Hey, guys, welcome back to Wisecracks, Bill Krackerberger, John Orlando.
- 43:12Speaker 1: This week we had, of course Rodney Morris, our pool
- 43:15Speaker 1: guest on billiards champion, some great stories by him. Uh
- 43:20Speaker 1: So we we're gonna have a little shortened version of
- 43:22Speaker 1: John and I I am in my home studio John
- 43:25Speaker 1: is over at d Rango and John super Bowl party.
- 43:28Speaker 1: How'd your super Bowl go over there?
- 43:31Speaker 5: Uh?
- 43:32Speaker 4: Well, other than it being one of the why I
- 43:34Speaker 4: got these on, well, other than it being one of
- 43:36Speaker 4: the most boring super bowls, the party was fun, having
- 43:40Speaker 4: everybody over and stuff.
- 43:42Speaker 5: But this this one put me to sleep.
- 43:44Speaker 4: Man.
- 43:44Speaker 1: You two are three quarters pretty slow. Yeah, boring, and uh.
- 43:50Speaker 4: By the time it picked up, I didn't even care,
- 43:53Speaker 4: you know, Yeah, yeah, I almost went over.
- 43:55Speaker 1: That would have been bad for the for the sportsbooks.
- 43:57Speaker 1: That last run would have been real bad for the
- 44:00Speaker 1: sports books. They called a holding call, and I had
- 44:03Speaker 1: the numbers here, the Las Vegas numbers. Even though Seattle
- 44:08Speaker 1: won and Seattle money line, Seattle covered the line sixty
- 44:13Speaker 1: percent of the betters, depending how much sportsbook most of
- 44:16Speaker 1: them are held, around fifty eight to sixty percent of
- 44:19Speaker 1: the betters were on Seattle. Despite all that, the sportsbooks
- 44:24Speaker 1: still won. They still won some good money here. So
- 44:30Speaker 1: let's see, I'm you're going to give you the number,
- 44:32Speaker 1: I'll give you the numbers over the years. So this
- 44:33Speaker 1: year's about ten million dollars was one this year between
- 44:39Speaker 1: the Nevada sportsbooks. Last year twenty two million, but if
- 44:42Speaker 1: I go back over the years, they've had years where
- 44:46Speaker 1: like twenty eighteen they only won a million bucks. Wait, yeah, wow,
- 44:53Speaker 1: who do you remember Philadelphia forty one, New England thirty three? Wow,
- 44:59Speaker 1: that's super They only won a million dollars off of
- 45:02Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty one hundred and fifty eight million
- 45:05Speaker 1: dollar handle. And then I'll go even further to say,
- 45:11Speaker 1: in twenty twenty four, one hundred and ninety million dollar handle,
- 45:14Speaker 1: one hundred and ninety million dollar handle, can't amazing won
- 45:18Speaker 1: twenty five twenty two this year the lowest handle in
- 45:21Speaker 1: ten years, one hundred and thirty three million. Like I said,
- 45:25Speaker 1: they won ten million bucks seven point four percent. You know,
- 45:30Speaker 1: I look back at they look at these numbers though,
- 45:32Speaker 1: and there there they actually surprised me. I didn't know that.
- 45:34Speaker 1: I didn't know what the numbers were going to be.
- 45:37Speaker 1: Uh for Nevada, I didn't know. I didn't know what
- 45:40Speaker 1: Seattle winning like that. I knew some of the in
- 45:43Speaker 1: most of the sportsbooks. I didn't know if they were
- 45:45Speaker 1: gonna have it. I knew they were gonna win, but
- 45:46Speaker 1: I just didn't know how much they were going to win.
- 45:49Speaker 1: And it just goes to show me how much square
- 45:51Speaker 1: money is in the marketplace that Seattle can win the game,
- 45:55Speaker 1: cover the game, but yet that that final out happens.
- 46:01Speaker 1: And it was a very good super Bowl for me.
- 46:04Speaker 1: Over at wager Talk, I said this multiple times. They
- 46:08Speaker 1: asked me for a package like ten days before the
- 46:10Speaker 1: Super Bowl. So lucky I went six and zero on
- 46:13Speaker 1: that package of props, including the second half over seven
- 46:16Speaker 1: and zero. That's impossible. I don't think I could do
- 46:18Speaker 1: that again. Ten is very overall, real good super Bowl
- 46:21Speaker 1: for me, But I just see the crowds not as
- 46:26Speaker 1: busy though, especially maybe because of the Calshi's of the world,
- 46:30Speaker 1: the different sportsbooks. You know, Calshi handled ten times more
- 46:35Speaker 1: ten x handle than Nevada handled on the Super Bowl,
- 46:39Speaker 1: so they have cut in for sure to the final
- 46:43Speaker 1: numbers here and the reason why Nevada is probably a
- 46:46Speaker 1: little bit slower for the Super Bowl. I seen rooms
- 46:49Speaker 1: were like eighty bucks, one hundred bucks. You could have
- 46:51Speaker 1: stayed many casinos for one hundred dollars Saturday and Sunday night.
- 46:56Speaker 1: I was kind of shocked by that Super Bowl typically
- 46:58Speaker 1: the busiest time of the year, so I was pretty supped.
- 47:02Speaker 5: I bail that.
- 47:03Speaker 1: Yeah, go ahead.
- 47:05Speaker 4: Uh so you said, you you they put together a
- 47:07Speaker 4: package for Super Bowl with you put six picks on it?
- 47:11Speaker 5: What and you went six? And oh yeah, what what
- 47:15Speaker 5: do you charge for that package? What did that package
- 47:18Speaker 5: cost people?
- 47:19Speaker 1: Everything? You know, I'm slowly.
- 47:21Speaker 5: I know you don't like talking about this, so I
- 47:23Speaker 5: so I like, I.
- 47:24Speaker 1: Want to transform the customers over to wag your talk
- 47:28Speaker 1: and we'll have that deal finalized in about a month.
- 47:31Speaker 1: I've never ever sold picks for that low. But they
- 47:37Speaker 1: charged like fifty bucks for the package.
- 47:39Speaker 5: So that's incredible.
- 47:40Speaker 4: That's what I was getting at is, Yeah, fifty dollars
- 47:44Speaker 4: and you handed back six winners.
- 47:48Speaker 1: That is that was sick insane they got I think
- 47:52Speaker 1: it was fifty nine dollars to get everything, but just
- 47:56Speaker 1: to have I had. I had one of the plays
- 47:58Speaker 1: that they liked to grade at five percent, which I
- 48:00Speaker 1: told them I'm not putting the five percent on anything.
- 48:03Speaker 1: I'm gonna put two and a half percent, no problems.
- 48:06Speaker 1: So when they have a five percent play, I tell
- 48:08Speaker 1: them my my percentage is going to be two and
- 48:10Speaker 1: a half percent. And that also won. That was my
- 48:13Speaker 1: bigger play there, which was the over second half, which
- 48:17Speaker 1: you could bet before the game. You could bet either
- 48:19Speaker 1: half over. You can also make a bet second half
- 48:22Speaker 1: more points than the first half. But I just didn't
- 48:23Speaker 1: like the LA dollars thirty on that. So yeah, it
- 48:27Speaker 1: was a great super Bowl for me, great super Bowl
- 48:29Speaker 1: for anyone that trust in me. Like I've said every year, listen,
- 48:32Speaker 1: I do this for a living. This is not someone
- 48:35Speaker 1: that just sells games and doesn't bet serious amounts of money.
- 48:38Speaker 1: You're welcome to ask any sportsbook manager if that's the case.
- 48:43Speaker 4: I was.
- 48:45Speaker 5: Spot on crack. I gave out. I told everyone, yeah,
- 48:51Speaker 5: well yeah, but Patriots in the over.
- 48:54Speaker 1: So you know I'm serious. Now, people the people that
- 49:00Speaker 1: do you you people that liken some gribe and comment,
- 49:04Speaker 1: you gotta know this. You can't pick on John for this.
- 49:06Speaker 1: There's nothing like, uh, you know, John doing this. There's
- 49:10Speaker 1: nothing wrong with this. You tell the shoots. You're very transparent.
- 49:13Speaker 1: And that's why I locked up that site on go
- 49:16Speaker 1: Daddy years ago back against John dot Com. I'm gonna
- 49:18Speaker 1: open at one of these days. I just haven't time
- 49:21Speaker 1: and effort into that. Yes, a wrong consistency, John, thank
- 49:24Speaker 1: you very much. But yeah, you got a nice little
- 49:27Speaker 1: nice new shirt on though you look so you look
- 49:29Speaker 1: so nice. So so something must do, something must be
- 49:33Speaker 1: going well. How about the twenty four hour show John,
- 49:36Speaker 1: that went good? I was on there. I was on
- 49:38Speaker 1: there for for for a segment. You had a lot
- 49:41Speaker 1: of people there.
- 49:42Speaker 5: My god, you had like yeah, man, you had like
- 49:45Speaker 5: that back room.
- 49:46Speaker 1: You had all those people that were waiting. You had
- 49:48Speaker 1: like a little circus performers on, Like I felt you
- 49:52Speaker 1: were like Pt. Barnum and you had like all different
- 49:56Speaker 1: kinds of people on. Like I'm not going to go
- 49:59Speaker 1: into anything, but yes, a couple couple mixtures of different
- 50:03Speaker 1: things going on there. Nice.
- 50:05Speaker 5: There was there was, there was that was very well put. Yeah,
- 50:08Speaker 5: we had we had some fun sponsors. We had Pink
- 50:11Speaker 5: Cherry as a sponsor.
- 50:12Speaker 4: And I'll let the let the our viewers can type
- 50:15Speaker 4: the name Pink Cherry in and figure out what that
- 50:17Speaker 4: is all about. Uh. And so we had we had
- 50:21Speaker 4: some fun segments with that and then built my guys
- 50:24Speaker 4: over it Built Basics where I'm rocking a full. You
- 50:27Speaker 4: mentioned the new shirt. This whole ensemble is from my
- 50:31Speaker 4: favorite clothing brand, Built. They sponsored the podcast. I changed Built, Bill,
- 50:35Speaker 4: I don't know if you know this. I changed into
- 50:37Speaker 4: a different Built outfit every hour on the hour, for
- 50:42Speaker 4: twenty four straight outfits.
- 50:44Speaker 5: That they were nice. They were nice enough to send
- 50:46Speaker 5: me twenty four different outfits.
- 50:49Speaker 1: I didn't know that.
- 50:50Speaker 4: Yeah, in all honesty, I might have only got about
- 50:52Speaker 4: twenty one outfits in That's why I'm wearing this today.
- 50:55Speaker 5: Well, I would have wear this anyway.
- 50:56Speaker 1: But it's hard.
- 50:57Speaker 5: It's harder than you think to change every hour with
- 51:00Speaker 5: the way that show unfolds.
- 51:01Speaker 4: But it was a lot of fun. It's the sixth
- 51:03Speaker 4: year we did it. I look forward to next year.
- 51:04Speaker 4: I thank you for coming by. It's always good to
- 51:07Speaker 4: have you on.
- 51:08Speaker 5: And it was fun.
- 51:10Speaker 1: Yeah, it was nice. It was nice to actually come
- 51:11Speaker 1: by and uh, spend some time with you guys, and
- 51:14Speaker 1: and your your your friends are really nice. Thanks man,
- 51:18Speaker 1: A bunch of nice guys. You have some you know,
- 51:21Speaker 1: you have a lot of civilian friends. I like them,
- 51:23Speaker 1: and then you have a crazy then you have a
- 51:25Speaker 1: lot of crazy friends that were Yeah, yes, let's get
- 51:29Speaker 1: so anyway. Yeah, So the Vegas did good for that,
- 51:32Speaker 1: but I you know, I was out last couple of nights.
- 51:35Speaker 1: The town has cleared out. Yesterday I was at the Fountain, Yeah,
- 51:38Speaker 1: and there was just nobody there yet yet. The pizza there.
- 51:41Speaker 1: I have pizza there yesterday. It was the best pizza
- 51:43Speaker 1: I've had since I've been in Vegas. Probably was that
- 51:46Speaker 1: pie that was made yesterday for me at Miami Slice.
- 51:49Speaker 1: Miami Slice a great, great, great pie yesterday, but the
- 51:55Speaker 1: whole place was totally dead. Though it's amazing. I really
- 51:59Speaker 1: think that, not only because it the Calcis of the world.
- 52:03Speaker 1: I think that people are so scared to come to
- 52:07Speaker 1: Vegas because it's not that destination where the cheap beats
- 52:12Speaker 1: the fun and it's just not anymore, especially with all
- 52:16Speaker 1: social media talking about how greedy these corporations have become,
- 52:20Speaker 1: with parking fees, with resort fees, with you know, even yesterday,
- 52:24Speaker 1: I mean that pizza was forty three dollars for a pie. Yeah,
- 52:29Speaker 1: that's a lot, but there's other places in the Town's
- 52:31Speaker 1: even more than that. Over at Caesars at sixty six.
- 52:34Speaker 1: I think it was for a pie. So we're back home.
- 52:36Speaker 1: It's what is it in New York and New Jersey?
- 52:39Speaker 1: Twenty bucks? I mean, the best pizza in the world
- 52:41Speaker 1: for twenty dollars for a pizza. Oh, I should have
- 52:45Speaker 1: brought on this. There's this new LA pizza spot. This
- 52:49Speaker 1: guy's from I think he's from the Bronx. I see
- 52:52Speaker 1: for the Bronx from Brooklyn. He's from Brooklyn. There's a
- 52:55Speaker 1: new La pizza spot I have to try. I sent
- 52:58Speaker 1: the let me see, like a find the video real quick.
- 53:01Speaker 1: I sent the video. This I'm gonna see if you've
- 53:02Speaker 1: ever heard of it. It's funny. A lot of people
- 53:04Speaker 1: were saying, Oh, did you try? What's the one that
- 53:07Speaker 1: you you?
- 53:08Speaker 4: You turned me on to La Monica's Lamonica's New York
- 53:11Speaker 4: Pizza in Westwood on Gaily best the best. No one
- 53:15Speaker 4: will ever convince me there's better pizza.
- 53:18Speaker 1: Well, this this place is I really think that you're
- 53:21Speaker 1: gonna that you're gonna like this? Really? Where is it?
- 53:25Speaker 1: It's it's on a corner. Here it is. I found it,
- 53:28Speaker 1: all right?
- 53:29Speaker 5: Why were you just in l A or something recently?
- 53:33Speaker 1: On Twitter? This place? Okay? Hold on, all right, here
- 53:38Speaker 1: it is. I'm gonna give you the name of the place.

- 53:50Speaker 1: It's on the corner. It is there. It is why
- 53:52Speaker 1: this La Pizza doesn't care about Ah, very good, very good. Okay,

- 54:06Speaker 1: love Sicilian. Look at that Sicilian pizza in Los Angeles.
- 54:10Speaker 1: Look at this place. No, wow, he's using that. He
- 54:17Speaker 1: actually said, I'm using the most expensive He said, I'm
- 54:20Speaker 1: gonna be one of the more expensive pizza because I'm
- 54:21Speaker 1: using the expensive products from back ho ho. Yeah, okay,
- 54:25Speaker 1: from back hope, from back home, and uh yeah, this
- 54:28Speaker 1: is this place. And I still don't know the name,
- 54:30Speaker 1: and I apologize, but he's using some of the some really,
- 54:34Speaker 1: I can't believe he doesn't have his name on it.
- 54:35Speaker 1: Old on Mart Mart Pizza.
- 54:40Speaker 2: Can that be the name of place?
- 54:42Speaker 1: You cut out?
- 54:42Speaker 5: Say it again?
- 54:45Speaker 1: Can the name of the place be smart Pizza? Can
- 54:47Speaker 1: that be the name of the place. Weird name? Look,
- 54:54Speaker 1: he's on a corner there, So he's on the corner there.
- 54:56Speaker 1: That's this pizza place, Johnny, look at the camera real quick. Okay,
- 55:00Speaker 1: he's from Brooklyn. I just want to I want to
- 55:03Speaker 1: let you know you got to try this place, and
- 55:05Speaker 1: I apologize for the people. We'll get the name of
- 55:07Speaker 1: this place. You know, before we go off air, John,
- 55:12Speaker 1: you know anything about about Steve Win what happened here?
- 55:15Speaker 1: This was kept this was kept out of the media. Here.
- 55:19Speaker 1: No one wants to really talk about this. This this
- 55:21Speaker 1: this place. All right. This is on the Slice app.
- 55:25Speaker 1: By the ways, I don't use the Slice app, but
- 55:28Speaker 1: it looked really good. Anyway. What's the Slice Appuh, he
- 55:32Speaker 1: says slice app. I heard of the Slice.
- 55:34Speaker 5: App where you go find pizza.
- 55:37Speaker 1: Yeah, that leads you to Pizzerias.
- 55:39Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, genius, genius giving.
- 55:43Speaker 1: I'm giving a free a free plug for the Slice app.
- 55:46Speaker 1: So Steve Wins he had this million dollar he had
- 55:50Speaker 1: this million dollar. Uh. They someone tried to shake him
- 55:54Speaker 1: down for a million bucks in Vegas and and I'm
- 55:57Speaker 1: up there we go John, Finally, finally, finally, fine, Angel
- 56:01Speaker 1: City Pizza. Angel City Pizza. I want you to try
- 56:04Speaker 1: that next time you're in La.
- 56:06Speaker 5: Okay, that's okay, look on Instagram right now.
- 56:10Speaker 1: Yeah. So Steve Win, Yeah, you know, they want to
- 56:14Speaker 1: keep these stories out out of the media. And I
- 56:17Speaker 1: get it. I get it. So this Las Vegas man
- 56:20Speaker 1: was arrested for trying to extort Steve Win out of
- 56:23Speaker 1: a million dollars. This Las Vegas resident, Michael Louisa Mawisa,
- 56:28Speaker 1: was arrested Monday for a one million dollar extortion plot
- 56:31Speaker 1: against Steve Win. Seventy nine threatening emails and packages showed
- 56:36Speaker 1: up at the Billionaires Florida Residents Is twenty twenty three. Now,
- 56:41Speaker 1: it wasn't difficult for to find this guy that was
- 56:44Speaker 1: threatening him because he used his real information, his real name,
- 56:48Speaker 1: his real phone number, his real address, and he was
- 56:52Speaker 1: arrested for I mean, there's there's his photo. I mean,
- 56:56Speaker 1: there's the guy. Yeah. Yeah, he looks like an astortionist. Yeah.
- 57:00Speaker 1: So yeah, he was saying that I'm going to reveal
- 57:04Speaker 1: some of your tax information. And it's just just amazing
- 57:09Speaker 1: that this stuff can go on, that it really is
- 57:12Speaker 1: try to shake down Steve Winn. A new coach by
- 57:19Speaker 1: the way over here in Las Vegas. Clint Kubiak, I'm
- 57:22Speaker 1: not going to put too much time on this because
- 57:24Speaker 1: I don't know. The raiders are just so bad, just
- 57:27Speaker 1: so so bad. I just don't think that nothing's going
- 57:31Speaker 1: to help them for a couple of years. And that's
- 57:33Speaker 1: a shame. I love a couple of the players on there.
- 57:35Speaker 1: Look what does it like, Max Crosby, Jesus John, I
- 57:40Speaker 1: have a couple of his subjects to go into here
- 57:44Speaker 1: or I go into them. I want to read this email.
- 57:48Speaker 1: It's about this our sponsor and the email this week.
- 57:52Speaker 1: This is interesting because I always feel if somebody has
- 57:55Speaker 1: two thousand dollars to bet on a parlay, I like
- 57:58Speaker 1: those little twenty fives to win one hundred thousand, it's
- 58:01Speaker 1: something to have fun. This guy got two thousand to
- 58:03Speaker 1: win one hundred and seventeen thousand, fifty eight to one,
- 58:07Speaker 1: and the bet is Miami. He has Miami, Florida. He
- 58:10Speaker 1: already won that plus seven and a half Michigan to
- 58:13Speaker 1: reach the final four, which they're they're headed there Detroit
- 58:17Speaker 1: Pistons to win the Eastern Conference, Tampa Bay Lightning to
- 58:21Speaker 1: also win their Eastern Conference. Now, why that the reason
- 58:26Speaker 1: why I'm gonna say I wouldn't sell this is right
- 58:29Speaker 1: now as I'm saying it's worth forty nine to seventeen
- 58:32Speaker 1: is what wager wire is saying the wager Wire app.
- 58:34Speaker 1: But you know the reason why I'm saying that I
- 58:38Speaker 1: would not sell this this ticket is because right now,
- 58:42Speaker 1: it looks like a couple of these things. Our favorites
- 58:46Speaker 1: the Pistons to win the East, Lightning to win their
- 58:49Speaker 1: East Michigan Final four. Let's I would wait until Michigan
- 58:54Speaker 1: gets to the final four here to try to think
- 58:57Speaker 1: about a buyout, which will probably go up. I'm gonna
- 59:02Speaker 1: say six, man, that's six maybe fivefold, so it's gonna
- 59:05Speaker 1: go up a lot more. You know, the Pistons are
- 59:09Speaker 1: headed to a number one seed right now. Lightning currently
- 59:11Speaker 1: have the best record in the East. I'm not selling
- 59:13Speaker 1: this ticket, but uh, this ticket for two thousand bucks.
- 59:17Speaker 1: I'm surprised someone that has two thousand dollars to throw
- 59:20Speaker 1: down on such you know, a crazy parlay, because these
- 59:22Speaker 1: parlays are crazy, you know that's what I feel. So
- 59:25Speaker 1: but so this for someone to throw throw down two
- 59:27Speaker 1: thousand bucks, I'm surprised he would even head over to
- 59:29Speaker 1: wager Wire and the wager wire app to see if
- 59:31Speaker 1: he can get a buyout. I mean, you bet two
- 59:34Speaker 1: thousand dollars, guy, your your buyo. It's only forty nine yea, yeah,
- 59:37Speaker 1: you bet that kind of money. Let's yeah go a
- 59:39Speaker 1: little further. So wagerwire dot Com, the wager wire app
- 59:44Speaker 1: for that I want to talk about. Let's go back
- 59:46Speaker 1: to my tweet. I put a tweet up. I seen
- 59:49Speaker 1: this in I think it was in China. I see
- 59:52Speaker 1: this in China. Let's see is it in China? Yeah?
- 59:55Speaker 1: I think it's in China. Yeah it is. Okay, So
- 59:59Speaker 1: these people now have options to melt their gold, so
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: they can go right to a machine and they run
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: of money. You can see they melt their gold and
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: they can get instant money from melts. Putting their money.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: Putting their gold right now. So if you go broke,
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: you can just put your diamond ring in the thing. John,
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: this will probably be good for you.
- 1:00:19Speaker 5: I was just gonna say, where is that I'm asking
- 1:00:21Speaker 5: for a friend.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, this is I'm sure they listen. They have
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: to rob you first of all. I'm gonna ring see
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: you coming to Las Vegas casinos, which it's not really
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: coming to casinos. You can't put you can't put something
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: that gets up to twenty two hundred degrees in a casino.
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: I just don't see it happening unless they really have
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: some Just think about that twenty two hundred degrees. It melts,
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: it verifies and purifies, the weight and verifies them, and
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: it actually says it verifies the purity and weight of
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: then transfers the value minus feet of course to your
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: local bank account. This will devastate local pawn shop industry.
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: I don't know that because you if you pay over
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: the price like this has got to be a giant markup.
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: It's got toolved. I would I would think.
- 1:01:16Speaker 5: I would love to know what kind of numbers that's
- 1:01:18Speaker 5: that does over like six months.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I would like to know how the numbers it does.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: You're you're absolutely right, but yeah, I put a video
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: up of the Fountain Blue last night. That pizza got
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: two hundred thousand views already, the pizza, but not only
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: the pizza. It's because the food court was so dead
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: and and the town was so dead. But that you
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: know that that happens a lot after super Power. Yeah,
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: the town dies down and that does happen a lot,
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: So I get it. Like it, Now, what do you do?
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: Do you? Are you still hanging around? And do you
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: go anywhere? Like I'm thinking of going somewhere for a
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: couple of days and uh events.
- 1:01:55Speaker 5: Where would you go?
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: Well? After march Man, where are we going? Have to
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: I have to go to Florida to cash and tickets
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: of hard rock. But it's just it's nice to slow
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: down after the super Bowl. What do you do, John,
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: do anything?
- 1:02:09Speaker 5: I just plow through. Just just another week, same same
- 1:02:12Speaker 5: thing for me.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: Me.
- 1:02:14Speaker 5: Super Bowl doesn't take what it takes out of me.
- 1:02:16Speaker 5: You know what it takes out of you, out of me.
- 1:02:18Speaker 4: It's you, that's your You're you're going so hard, Bill,
- 1:02:21Speaker 4: Like I mean when I it was almost rude of
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: me to ask you to do the twenty four hour
- 1:02:26Speaker 4: because I know during super Bowl you're you must have
- 1:02:29Speaker 4: done how many shows are you on super Bowl week?
- 1:02:31Speaker 5: You you must be on twenty different things?
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: Yeah you can. You can hear me. I had to
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: minimize the screen for a second, but you can hear me, right, Yeah,
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: I hear you. Okay. I did about fifteen shows. Yeah,
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: I did about fifteen other shows. I did a big
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: Fox show, and I kind of didn't realize. I always
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: don't realize doing Mike this guy, Mike's show nation wide, nationwide.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: It's such a big show because I have relatives and
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: people that that that that are telling me, hey, Bill,
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: we see you, you know, we see you over home
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: like they see me in Jersey and Pennsylvania. And this
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: one guy, one guy that I don't know, put me
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: put a tweet on Twitter. He took a photo of
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: me in Boston. So I think it's on. I think
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: it's on all the different networks, the Fox affiliates in
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: the big in the big areas. So I thought that
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: was kind of cool. So but yeah, that was a
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: big show. And I just and I gave out winners,
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: which I'm so happy about. You know that that's the
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: main thing.
- 1:03:29Speaker 5: Yeah, that's awesome.
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: I get I get more upset if I give out
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: losers to people then I do losing my own money.
- 1:03:39Speaker 5: No, I get it, Yeah, I get it. I get it.
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: Uh, you know, I talked to one sportsbook manager. He
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: said that they didn't get any big bets. They're used
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: to getting five, six, or even ten big bets of
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: one hundred thousand or more, and uh, that sportsbook did
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: not get any big bets. He was concerned. I think
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: that that that those bets probably went to the calcium
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: market and those big markets, I guess. Or it could
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: be like stocks were down, Bitcoin was down, so people
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: just got a little more conservative too. It mean, it
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: could be a lot of different variables. But over at Circa,
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: they got a million dollar bet Patriots money line about
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: ten days before the game, and they were rooting. It's
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: based on that bet. They were rooting for Seattle for
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: a little bit. They were for a little bit because
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: they knew they were gonna got a lot of Seattle money. Well,
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: twenty four hours before the game, someone came in one
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: point one million dollars and also bet Patriots money line,
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: so that made them really roote. I'm reading what Jeff
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: Benson said here. That made them really like. I'm gonna
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: give you Jeff Benson's quote, it was a hell of
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: a day given our future position. But also we took
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: two million dollar plus events, which worked out really well
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: for us. So Circa did really well in the Super Bowl.
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: Some of the other casinos didn't fare so well. Somebody
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: actually like broke even. But like I told you, almost
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: the ten million dollar win for the city. And you
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: know something I've seen in an article. I like this.
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: I like bet MGM's doing this. So they're now suspending
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: any customers who harass athletes if they find I love
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: that you have an account and you're harassing athletes after
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: the game. And I needed two more points for you.
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: I needed it. They're suspending their accounts, so I like
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: to hear. I love that. I wish I wish more
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: sportsbooks would take that stance if they find out about
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: them suspending, you know, about them going after athletes. Matter
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: of fact. In New Jersey, I like this. A New
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: Jersey lawmaker wants to ban text messages from the sportsbooks
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: about enticing you to gamble. So like they'll send you
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: a text. I'm gonna I'm gonna give John a clip
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: of this too, you know, bet Now, come on in now.
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: Every day you'll get hit every day from these casinos
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: and from from these I'm not gonna take casinos from
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: these sports books that are new to the country. Hey
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: you got this bonus, You got that bonus you got
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: You know, there's every day. If you don't opt out
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: or slow down those responses, you get hit up every day,
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: every week. And I like that New Jersey lawmaker. Thank
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: you you, Senator Andrew Zwicker. I never heard of him,
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: but thank you for He seeks to prohibit all licensed
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: gambling entities in the Garden State from utilizing push notifications
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: and text messages to promote their gambling companies. I am
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: really happy that that's happening, and I hope it does
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: go through. Meanwhile, I told you in person, gambling revenue
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: Atlantic City up three percent, two point nine billion online,
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: you know, just killing it. I already said these areatics.
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: I don't want to bore people. I've given these numbers already,
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: but this will at least listen, we're humans, we're humans.
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: We had Vegas Polici on when he had his hands
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: together and he was pounding the table about the executive
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: is not knowing what we go through. We go through
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: enough vice and enough peer pressure, enough company corporate pressure
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: to gamble, to be with our buddies to do this.
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: And now I don't care what as you're at. We
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: don't need to be harassed on the phone constantly and said, hey,
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: don't forget the gamble today, don't forget the gamble today.
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: I absolutely agree with this, Senator, and I hope that
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: becomes a law. But you know this, sometimes what's the
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: words too big to fail? Sometimes things are too big
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: to fail. So I hope that does become law. And yeah, John,
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: I really don't have anymore you all right? Everything else there?
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: No, I'm excited when one one good thing. When the
- 1:07:45Speaker 4: Super Bowl ends, it means football is over, which means
- 1:07:48Speaker 4: Baseball's right around the corner.
- 1:07:50Speaker 5: Bill, right around the corner.
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: You'll be looking to put people in homeless shelters real soon. Okay, great,
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: well look forward to that. I'm gonna probably get that
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: Psycho going to bet against John psychohing. I got to
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: put some money into that. But guys, thank you for
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: the whole year. Thanks for watching through super Bowl. We
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: appreciate it. We're gonna be on all year around here.
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: John and I Wisecracks. Thanks to John Hoaglan, our guy
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: that puts these together, our producer. Thanks for wager Talk
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: for giving us this space. And I appreciate the people
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: that like subscribe your comments. Try to get back to
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: all of them. Appreciate any everything you guys do, and
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: we'll see you next week on Wise Cracks.
