Transcript
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: As we talked about yesterday, you need to have a system where you can plant or store all the thoughts, information, and ideas that you're going to use as raw material for your writing.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: And while that is an important start, you've got to water those tiny seeds so they can grow into something useful.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: There's all kinds of ways to explore your curiosity and seek knowledge, but none of those compare to reading in terms of the value of watering your ideas.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: We have a plethora of ways to gain knowledge every day, including podcasts, ebooks, audiobooks, video courses, and so much more.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: But again, none of these compare to reading.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: None of these learning sources compared to a good old-fashioned book can really get the trick done.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: Whenever you engage with a great book, you enter into a sustained dialogue with the author.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: You take a journey that you can't take any other way.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: So make reading books a habit.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: The mode of books doesn't really matter as much as the fact that you're reading them.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: So whether it's ebooks, print books, audiobooks, it doesn't really make any difference.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Do whatever you love and don't pay any attention to the people who say that you've got to read in a certain format or that audiobooks are better or print books or ebooks are better.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: It doesn't really make any difference.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: What matters is that you're engaging in the books because at the end of the day, they all lead to the same result, which is learning and growth and exploring your curiosity.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Reading helps you connect the dots.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: It helps you to spur new ideas in your mind.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Reading helps fill in the gaps of your knowledge and it inspires you to keep on writing.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: And aside from consistently writing, consistently reading is the habit that will nourish and expand your seeds of ideas into a bountiful harvest later on.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: So pick up a book today, get to reading.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: I promise it'll do you good.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: If you've been listening to this show for any length of time, you know that one of the four practices of a great writer is creativity.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: And in order to stay creative, you've got to have great input.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: And that's where writing prompts come in.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: A writing prompt is a sentence or two that helps you break through creative blocks, brainstorm new ideas, and get back into a state of flow.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: Writing prompts are an awesome creative tool for journaling, storytelling, creative writing, stress relief, social media posts, and so much more.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: But the great news is that you don't have to create these yourself.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: We've put together an amazing package of 365 daily writing prompts.
