Latest / Rusty's Garage / The Motorsport Brief | 3rd generation racer Ryder Quinn
Transcript
- 0:02A listener production.
- 0:04Recently on the short cast, we've had Tabitha Ambrose, AFL legend Brad Johnson about his son Jack's pursuit of motorsport.
- 0:11Today, it's a third generation racer with a really cool story too.
- 0:17Hi everyone, Rusty here at Queensland Raceway with another of the family stories that you find so many of in the paddock.
- 0:24Shortly, to Ryder Quinn.
- 0:26First, a little mention of our most recent feature episode with Michael Dowson, the Australian motorcycle racing legend of the 80s and early 90s.
- 0:34A little thank you to Paul Stubber too, who commented on our Facebook promo for this ep about how the Geograph Motor Museum in Bunbury in Western Australia
- 0:43has lots of dows and memorabilia, so you can check that out if ever you're over that way.
- 0:48Our podcast is a two-parter with him, two hours of conversation.
- 0:52We cover so many aspects of his career, from his brilliance at Bathurst, wheeling down Conrod, and that is before they built the chase, to helping open doors for Mick Doohan and two-wheeling a Corolla through Hell Corner,
- 1:05After taking part in a Toyota Star Search competition, the picture of that moment became the centrepiece of a major marketing campaign.
- 1:14Whether you're a two- or four-wheel fan, you will really enjoy that episode.
- 1:18My guest today I've had a bit to do with in recent years when he contested the Toyota Racing Series, as we affectionately call it in New Zealand, as a...
- 1:26then 17-year-old.
- 1:28Since, he's raced in Porsche Carrera Cup.
- 1:30He's a winner now in the ultra-competitive GT4 class as a part of the Shannon Speed Series.
- 1:36He also turned heads at Bathurst at the beginning of the year as part of a history-making family entry at the 12-hour.
- 1:43with a lap time in final practice that made all the big names sit up and take note.
- 1:48A two-minute 2.577.
- 1:51Absolutely brilliant.
- 1:52That whole story, incidentally, is part of three generations tackling the mountain together, the Quinns, and that is going to be in a forthcoming documentary that I'll tell you more about in the months ahead.
- 2:03Now in his early 20s, Ryder has been signed to the BMW M Racing Academy and has just returned, in fact, from a special trip to Europe.
- 2:11He literally landed on Friday morning at the race meeting where we recorded this Queensland Raceway, owned by his grandfather, Popeye, as he calls him, Tony Quinn, who's been a regular on our pod.
- 2:23Thank you to Alistair, Alyssa and all of the team at Wade Group for allowing us to use their beautifully appointed motorsport transporter to record this one too.
- 2:33Hope you enjoy getting to know Ryder Quinn a little more.
- 2:38Hello, Ryder Quinn.
- 2:39Hello, sir.
- 2:40They're doing the podium literally outside here at Queensland Raceway.
- 2:43We can see outside the beautiful Wade Motorsport.
- 2:47This is amazing, this motorhome that we're in.
- 2:49You are literally often in here, aren't you?
- 2:51It really, really is nice.
- 2:52And Elisa and Paul and Emma, my partner, us at Thunder Buddies, we've been super fortunate that they've sort of given us the keys in some sort of way and said, oh, if you ever want to, you know, come in for a beverage or just chill out, yeah.
- 3:06you can use the space and trust me, it's definitely a very nice space.
- 3:10Ordinarily, you'd love to be out there, mate, with a little bit of champagne.
- 3:13What's the weekend been like here?
- 3:14This is home turf for you, for Thunder Buttocks Racing.
- 3:17Tell me about the weekend here and what's the report card on it generally?
- 3:21Yeah, I mean, definitely you can't win them all.
- 3:24I think this is the first weekend of GT4 racing that we haven't been able to achieve a podium, which is a record.
- 3:32It's not a very good one to get.
- 3:33But no, I think for us, you know,
- 3:37We may not have won on track, but definitely off track.
- 3:39We definitely had a big, big, big turnout of supporters.
- 3:42I mean, we had all our friends and family here.
- 3:45And definitely that means more to us than any sort of trophy or win that we can get on track.
- 3:50So definitely when we looked around the paddock, we definitely saw the most Thunder Buddies t-shirts on and around, and that was super special for us.
- 4:00Where the heck does that come from, Thunder Buddies?
- 4:02What is that?
- 4:02Is there a story behind that?
- 4:03Yeah, and probably I can't say too much.
- 4:06Yeah, but no, long story short, Steve, Zarko and I, we used to be scared of thunder.
- 4:12Well, Zarko and I, so my brother and I.
- 4:14Yes.
- 4:15And basically we used to all sort of camp out when there was some lightning and some thunder and eventually we cut our sort of thunder buddies off of that, I don't even know how to describe that show.
- 4:26And then basically at the start of the year, we're like, oh, you know, let's run with Thunder Buddies because Steve and I have always been quite close.
- 4:32And, yeah, I mean, we've been running it from there on in.
- 4:35We're going to get some little teddies done, but I don't know if that's really appropriate yet.
- 4:40For the people that are just joining the pod that may not know, you are a third generation racer.
- 4:47Your grandfather, who I have a lot to deal with in different capacities, Tony Quinn.
- 4:52Firstly, he got a bit of silverware here this weekend.
- 4:55Oh, my goodness.
- 4:55Pop-Eye, you call him.
- 4:56So good.
- 4:57So good.
- 4:58Like, he gets out of the car and he's like, oh, I'm so slow.
- 5:01Mate, you are not slow.
- 5:02Like, he's going on 70.
- 5:04He was good.
- 5:05in the dark I think too last night.
- 5:06Incredible.
- 5:08He's like, you know, we were going through some data and some vision with Steve and Popeye gets out and he's like, oh, I was just feeling it.
- 5:13I was just feeling where to go and how to push.
- 5:16Like that is a pure driver, you know.
- 5:19Like he has so much experience and, you know, he definitely doesn't give himself enough credit for that.
- 5:25Seriously how good he is.
- 5:27It's really cool.
- 5:28I mean I used to drive with him quite a lot and still do with the six-hour and 12-hour this year.
- 5:34But, I mean, definitely being competitors, it's really cool.
- 5:36You know, it's super nice.
- 5:37I always go up when we're on the dummy grid and whatnot and say, have a chat and whatnot.
- 5:42He's my grandfather.
- 5:43So it's super cool.
- 5:45I can still share the track with him.
- 5:46I've done a couple of episodes of the Shortcast now, which I kind of think of as these family or generational stories, right?
- 5:53Yeah.
- 5:54people that have come through the motorsport, not a pathway, but have clearly been influenced by what's happened in a family sense.
- 6:00I'm not going to spoil all of it because we have this wonderful documentary coming up with Tony, with your dad, with your uncle, and what you did at the Bathurst 12-hour this year, which I think is mighty.
- 6:11But the fact that you were around it since you were a little boy, there are really cool photos of you with them at, I don't know, events internationally and so on.
- 6:21I mean, you fell in love with it from the get-go, mate, didn't you?
- 6:24Yeah.
- 6:25I mean, and my sort of – personally, my career to date has been a little bit different compared to some other drivers.
- 6:31Most drivers start off in karting very young.
- 6:34I didn't do really too much of that.
- 6:36Um, I really started racing at 16, went straight into former Ford.
- 6:39And then my, you know, my rate of the progression of learning, like my learning curve, this has to be super, super sharp, um, because of, you know, I've just been thrown in, we're thrown into cup car, thrown into TRS, well, CT frock, um, previously, um, TRS.
- 6:53So, you know, that, that's been that whole sort of, uh, career to date.
- 6:56And, uh,
- 6:57You know, it's been an amazing journey.
- 6:59And like you just touched on with the international events that my father and grandfather and, you know, the team, Donnie, Harry, have all done together.
- 7:07You know, this is going back 20 years.
- 7:09You know, absolutely incredible.
- 7:10I was just sat in Aberdeen 24 hour and I went back through and found the photos of me being two years old and being there with Popeye's helmet on next to dad.
- 7:18Like absolutely incredible, you know, and going back there was almost like a full circle moment.
- 7:23I wasn't driving, but still super special.
- 7:27Still super special to, you know, it's so awesome that my family has done so much and, you know, we can all share this sport and love for the sport together.
- 7:37It's really cool.
- 7:38Just quickly share for me, I don't know if I've heard that story before.
- 7:41When you got to whatever it was, 15 or 16 there, and you decided to have a crack at it, how did that conversation go?
- 7:47Was that you to your dad?
- 7:48Was it to Popeye?
- 7:48Was it like, I want to have a... What happened there?
- 7:50Yeah, so...
- 7:52I played football soccer.
- 7:53Are you watching the World Cup and stuff at the moment?
- 7:55No, no, no.
- 7:56I've been – I need some sleep now.
- 7:58Okay.
- 8:00No, but so I played soccer for 10 years and then we sort of had a few test days in an Aussie car with Popeye.
- 8:07We're like, oh, you know what?
- 8:08Maybe this would actually be kind of cool.
- 8:09I've always sort of wanted to but – and then I got injured and whatever.
- 8:14That all happened.
- 8:15So –
- 8:16And then we were like, okay, let's go do Aussie car.
- 8:18And then my dad actually, we had like this little education fund, he called it, which if we wanted to learn about something or do any courses or anything for our development, we could go to him and say, hey, let's go do this.
- 8:33And basically we sort of stretched the lines a little bit and a part of that education fund, we could do a test.
- 8:40So Brett Francis has always been within the family in family motorsport.
- 8:44So we had a test with Brett in a Formula Ford.
- 8:47And, you know, that was a really, really good thing.
- 8:50And then that's what kicked off the Formula Ford side.
- 8:52And, you know, if I didn't do Formula Ford with Brett Francis, I don't think that my progression would have been as it has.
- 9:00Because you learned so much?
- 9:01Yes, learned so much, especially compared to what we most likely would have done, which would have been more so a hobby side.
- 9:08You know, Brett definitely helped a lot.
- 9:11And, you know, another companion, family companion that he's in the same paddock, he's next door.
- 9:16Excellent.
- 9:16It's just super special.
- 9:17So, yeah, that's how I sort of got into motorsport properly.
- 9:20And then, yeah, former Ford State Series National and then went TRS and Cup Car.
- 9:26Did you feel pressure?
- 9:27Because, you know, your granddad had done some incredibly successful things in business.
- 9:31And then his own motorsport CV, he downplays it a little bit.
- 9:34But from Targas to you name it, I mean –
- 9:38And then your dad was reminded this year at the Bathurst 12 Hour how damn handy he is as a steerer and was when you were growing up and stuff as well.
- 9:48So, I mean, did you feel that?
- 9:49Or was it just you always got this beautiful smile, mate?
- 9:52Were you just able to just enjoy it and get into it?
- 9:54Yeah, that was the biggest thing.
- 9:55I mean, to be honest, if I'm being honest, I didn't fully appreciate until I've gotten a little bit older how much...
- 10:04my family is actually done.
- 10:05Done, yeah.
- 10:06And it's super, super special that I now can sort of step back and realize that because it's really, really cool what they've been able to do and achieve.
- 10:16And, you know, Dad, he was a, what, three-time AGT champion.
- 10:20And that's back in the day when AGT was big and, you know, there was European guys coming over, Chris Mee's, like the Audis, the Mercedes.
- 10:28Quality, quality.
- 10:29It was just absolutely incredible.
- 10:31Yeah.
- 10:32He was beating those guys.
- 10:33He went to Portionata Champions.
- 10:36Amazing.
- 10:37Like that's incredible.
- 10:39Yeah.
- 10:39And it's super special.
- 10:41I mean especially living it now or living it to a certain degree makes me appreciate that so much more because I know how challenging it is to get invited to a night like that.
- 10:54Exactly.
- 10:55I think they're closing the tailgate here, but it's only because they're wrapping things up at Queensland Raceway.
- 10:59Your dad has this beautiful nature about him, but I feel like he puts a lot of expectation or something.
- 11:06He wants to deliver when he's in a race car, even though he's off doing business and other things.
- 11:10When he gets in and he gets the chance to enjoy that, is that something you share with him or are you different in nature?
- 11:15No, I definitely – so we're going back to the Winton test before 12 hours.
- 11:20This is December last year.
- 11:21Yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 11:23That was really one of the first times that we've properly worked together.
- 11:26That's amazing.
- 11:27That's the first time we've ever shared a car, ever shared a car.
- 11:30Did you pause and –
- 11:31Appreciate that.
- 11:31That's pretty special.
- 11:32Yeah, that was awesome.
- 11:33And, you know, it was funny because I went to Popeye and said it was the first time that we've ever worked together.
- 11:38Dad went to Popeye and said it was the first time we've ever worked together.
- 11:41We both did the exact same thing, which is really, really cool.
- 11:45Super cool.
- 11:45And, yeah, I mean, seeing how analytical he is, it shows –
- 11:51how he can be so successful in business, even from a motorsport standpoint, just so, you know, how analytical and how he can process things.
- 12:01That was really, really awesome to see.
- 12:03And that was really, really, you know, it was something that I took away and yeah, really appreciated.
- 12:08So no, it was super cool.
- 12:10And, you know, dad's turned a big page from, you know, who he was and what he was 10 years ago when he was back in a car.
- 12:16Definitely the last few years has really been loving life, which is really awesome.
- 12:20Super cool.
- 12:22and yeah, I'm super happy for that.
- 12:23Yeah.
- 12:24The family, mate, whether I look at your uncle and what he's done, certainly Popeye, your grandfather, Tony Quinn, your dad, and I think this has come quite naturally probably towards you as well.
- 12:36You all have work ethic, right?
- 12:37So I feel like...
- 12:39You, which we'll get to in a moment, you have the chance now to work with a big name German manufacturer.
- 12:43You have a great opportunity there potentially and so on.
- 12:47But there has been a want and probably even an expectation to still work that, mate, hasn't there?
- 12:53Tell me about that.
- 12:54Yeah, I mean, I've never done...
- 12:56Motorsport is a full-time thing.
- 12:58I've always been working straight out of school.
- 13:01I've been in family businesses and doing that.
- 13:04And I flew in on Friday from Europe with BMW.
- 13:09And then Monday, tomorrow, I'm straight up back at work.
- 13:12I'll be at the workshop at 5.30 in the morning.
- 13:14You are jet lag.
- 13:15You're tired now.
- 13:15I'm so tired.
- 13:16I'm like, shut up, Russell.
- 13:17Let's finish this.
- 13:17Sure.
- 13:19No, I don't know.
- 13:19But, you know, it just shows.
- 13:21It's sort of in our blood, the motorsports in our blood, but also, you know, working hard.
- 13:26Yeah, I really try to work hard because if you don't work hard, you know, off track, then all this on track stuff doesn't really happen.
- 13:34So, you know, that's how I've sort of grown up.
- 13:37And it gives me a bit of an edge, you know, I find anyway.
- 13:41I don't know if it's just because I tell myself this or not, but –
- 13:45When we go away for fitness camps and we have to push ourselves to the absolute max, being in a gym isn't as bad as waking up at 4.30, 1am, going to site, lifting stuff and digging holes.
- 13:59It's going to a gym.
- 14:00So, you know, these guys are struggling and for me, I get to be in my element.
- 14:05I get to really push and love it.
- 14:08I really enjoy it because I don't get to do it.
- 14:10You know, I get to live that dream because I don't live it every day.
- 14:14So, you know, I have a big appreciation for being at a racetrack and, you know, really pushing myself around motorsport because, yeah, you know, I really enjoy it when I get to do that.
- 14:23You have this nature, mate, that just oozes positivity.
- 14:26I very rarely see you without a massive smile on your face.
- 14:30I know you've done some international travel to some parts of it that you may have, if memory serves, I went with my wife to Nepal many, many years ago now, pre-kids.
- 14:40I think you might have done a little bit of that.
- 14:41You enjoy that stuff too, don't you?
- 14:43Yeah, it's good.
- 14:44I mean, and actually a big realization that I've had this year and I've gone away and done a few trips by myself to Europe and whatnot, but it's just how much I value having my family and friends with me.
- 14:58I don't want to go away and travel by myself.
- 15:01I want to be able to share that experience with other people and people that I love, which is a realization that I've only had recently.
- 15:07Excellent.
- 15:08Which I quite like and I'm glad that...
- 15:12I don't want to go spend X amount of time by myself.
- 15:16I want to be able to share with family and friends.
- 15:19I'm very family orientated.
- 15:21I love everyone a bit, so it's super awesome.
- 15:24Stay with us.
- 15:25More from Ryder Quinn right after this here on Rusty's Garage.
- 15:31This is our Motorsport Brief, another next-gen episode with a racer on their own journey, but from a family who aren't all pro racers, but rather successful business people that have made quite a mark in our sport.
- 15:44And Ryder Quinn picked up the generational love for it at a very young age, but he didn't get behind the wheel until his teens.
- 15:52Let's get back to the chat now.
- 15:55Some motor racing things to finish this, this short cast, mate.
- 15:58And I've only done a short cast with you only because I feel like you have so many more chapters yet to write in your career.
- 16:03Firstly, Josie Spillane spoke to me in the lead up to this and she reminded me about a helmet that you presented or, or had painted and it left Popeye pretty speechless, mate, didn't it?
- 16:14Tell me, was that TRS?
- 16:15Was that, was that CT Front?
- 16:16Where was that?
- 16:17And, and tell me about it, what the paint scheme was and his reaction when you, when you did that.
- 16:22Yeah, so this was for the Bathurst 12 Hour.
- 16:25Oh, fantastic.
- 16:26Sorry.
- 16:26Yeah, yeah, no, no, of course.
- 16:27So I sort of had the idea that, you know, let's all go and get our helmets purple.
- 16:33You know, the car's going to be purple, Popeye's favourite colour, you know, and also there was a little message on there, you know, he loves Buzz Lightyear.
- 16:42So I went and I got dad's helmet done, Kent got his helmet done, I got my helmet done, and I got Popeye's helmet done.
- 16:48Excellent.
- 16:48And without anyone knowing, without Popeye knowing, and I presented it to him at the TRS round.
- 16:53So that's where the TRS bit came in.
- 16:56And yeah, I had a little message on there.
- 16:57It was to infinity and beyond, you know, because of the Buzz Lightyear theme.
- 17:03Yeah, I think that that quote, that saying exemplifies Popeye.
- 17:09Totally.
- 17:10Like I don't think you can sum it up any better than To Infinity and beyond.
- 17:14I think that's super special.
- 17:15And yeah, he was definitely, you know.
- 17:18Speechless.
- 17:19He was very speechless, which is nice because, you know, you don't really see that from him, which is, yeah, it's super special to be able to see that side of him.
- 17:29Last September, I think it was around the Father's Day weekend, you and I are at the Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia.
- 17:35You, the Thunder Buddies team, you were just talking about at the top of the podcast and stuff, you have this unbelievable weekend there, mate, and I feel like it was a bit of an arrival moment in some respects.
- 17:46Take me back there.
- 17:47Was the stuff that you are now doing with BMW, was that already in the works or did that help seal that?
- 17:54That weekend was really significant for you, mate, I feel.
- 17:57Yeah.
- 17:57Yeah, I mean, definitely, firstly, that was the weekend where Popeye said, you know, let's give us a go for 12 hours.
- 18:0312 hours, yeah.
- 18:03So that's already a massive tick.
- 18:06So I don't get whatever else anybody else thinks that was, you know, that came from that weekend.
- 18:11But no, I mean, personally, as a race weekend for me, Father's Day to share the car with Steve, that was pretty special.
- 18:18And yeah, I mean, we came from 24th to winning outright.
- 18:21Wow.
- 18:23I felt super comfortable.
- 18:24You know, this car is so good.
- 18:26The BMW M4 GT4 is so, so good.
- 18:28It gives me so much confidence.
- 18:31And, yeah, I mean, I was sort of – we're in our element there.
- 18:35And, yeah, we took out the overall win.
- 18:37And then basically we had that – the application period came up about the BMW M Racing Academy.
- 18:45And we applied, we got shortlisted, then we went over to Munich, done the assessment centre through there, so physical training.
- 18:51We went through all the facilities, the BMW facilities, which was super awesome.
- 18:56And there, you know, I got a call from Bjorn.
- 18:59One night, I saw a plus 49 number.
- 19:02Who's this?
- 19:02I'm like, this might be good.
- 19:03This might be good.
- 19:04You know, it was like nine o'clock or something.
- 19:07Emma and I were making dinner and, yeah, he told us the news and that was super special.
- 19:11And that's been the start of what an incredible journey and an opportunity it has been being able to work with BMW Motorsport and work so closely with the drivers, the teams,
- 19:23The personnel, it's a big family in that manufacturer.
- 19:27It's super, super cool.
- 19:29I really enjoy it.
- 19:30So, yeah, no, look, that's a super, super big opportunity that I'm, you know, I'm really, really, really trying to maximize, you know, across the N24, Newburgh and 24-hour weekend.
- 19:42I had an hour and a half sleep in the engineering room.
- 19:45So it was pretty cool.
- 19:47So, no, it was awesome.
- 19:49Two to complete this.
- 19:49Thank you, mate.
- 19:50I know you're tired.
- 19:51Firstly...
- 19:52We saw some BMW executives at the Bathurst 12-hour.
- 19:55They're really good to let you go and do this family thing, which is so important with all four, you know, your dad, your uncle, your grandfather, and you all running this Audi.
- 20:05with Melbourne Performance Centre at the 12-hour.
- 20:08In practice, mate, you do this time that lights up the monitor.
- 20:13Grandad ends up in tears.
- 20:16There are some seriously good Australian and European operators that are at this race, and everyone goes, whew.
- 20:24Tell me about that lap and how that felt.
- 20:26That was damn cool.
- 20:28I actually have chills now right now.
- 20:30Thinking about it.
- 20:30Is that what you were doing?
- 20:31Yeah, yeah.
- 20:31Because, you know, that was cool.
- 20:34Yeah.
- 20:35I know it was Popeye's dream and the family's dream, and I definitely appreciated everyone being there.
- 20:40What was the number?
- 20:41Tell me.
- 20:41Can you remember the number?
- 20:42Oh, I can't remember.
- 20:43I can't remember.
- 20:44But –
- 20:46For me personally, as an Aussie, my goal in motorsport is to become a GT3 factory driver.
- 20:52Okay.
- 20:52So to be at Australia's, almost Australia's biggest event.
- 20:56Yes.
- 20:57And it's so widely internationally known that that event is there.
- 21:02And for me, that was so awesome.
- 21:05And I enjoyed that lap and the qualifying lap so much.
- 21:10And, yeah, getting out of the car, I saw Popeye crying.
- 21:13I'm like, holy moly, everyone's giving claps.
- 21:15And that was, again, chills.
- 21:18Chills.
- 21:18I love it.
- 21:19So, so cool and something that I'll definitely hold on to forever.
- 21:24You know, that was such a cool moment.
- 21:25To finish, and you've half taken me there, mate.
- 21:27How old are you now?
- 21:28And are we talking Nürburgring 24 hours and spa and whatever else?
- 21:33Is that the thing?
- 21:34Or would you still maybe like to maybe one day do a Bathurst 1000?
- 21:38Like what's the dream in that sense for you?
- 21:40Yeah, GT stuff.
- 21:41GT stuff.
- 21:42GT racing.
- 21:42GT racing.
- 21:44It's never really been a goal or a dream of mine to race supercars.
- 21:49I mean, obviously the 1000 is super awesome.
- 21:51And actually I drove the Red Bull, the Ampol Red Bull V8 the other day at Highlands.
- 21:58Highlands.
- 21:58Shane Van Gisbergen's Bathurst winning car.
- 22:00Yeah, the Camaro.
- 22:02And that was extremely fun.
- 22:04That was really, really cool.
- 22:06But no, it's always been GT racing for me.
- 22:10And, you know, absolutely.
- 22:11I guess it stems from what my family's done.
- 22:14And, you know, I would love nothing more than to be able to go to Nürburgring 24 Hour and compete in that and, you know, Dubai 24 where they won it, you know.
- 22:24And to be able to do that, whether we – whatever capacity that looks like, whether it's another, you know, Q family event or something like that, that would be pretty special.
- 22:33But, no, you know, that's always been a dream for me and that's definitely the goal going forward.
- 22:38And, I mean, who knows if –
- 22:41BMW works out, then that would be pretty awesome.
- 22:43And I'd love to share that goal of mine and dream of mine with the BMW family because they've definitely looked after me.
- 22:49Very cool.
- 22:50It's been nice to shoot the breeze with you about this.
- 22:51I feel like you have some great stuff in the pipeline, mate.
- 22:54I love the positivity.
- 22:55It is always a joy to catch up with you.
- 22:58Keep being you, mate, and enjoy.
- 23:00Thanks for chatting with us today.
- 23:01Thanks very much.
- 23:01Thank you.
- 23:03He is fantastic, isn't he?
- 23:04That smile, that wide smile of his literally goes right down the microphone and it's infectious.
- 23:10We will try while we're on the subject of these generational sports people to track down Ace Buckley too.
- 23:16He's Nathan Buckley's son, but he's gone the motor racing path rather than AFL like his legendary dad.
- 23:22Ace is now part of the Walkinshaw TWG Junior Programme.
- 23:27Keep an eye out for our next feature episode too that I'm actually recording later today with Bathurst winner and former Super 2 champion, Todd Hazelwood.
- 23:35That will be a beauty.
- 23:36We'll catch you next time.
- 23:37Bye for now.
