- 0:00welcome to multiple nerdgasm with your hosts Matt Luke and
- 0:07Dan multiple nerdgasm your guide to All
- 0:13Things
- 0:17nerdy it's been hot where you live uh I I want to say yeah but not really not
- 0:24really cuz you're in a kind of a a temperate climate it's hot here all the
- 0:28time yeah like right but last yeah yeah that's I feel like I shouldn't complain because I
- 0:34know I'm not getting into a today and you're going to be like whatever no no
- 0:38no no no for starters I don't even know what American degrees are so you'd be
- 0:42quite all right to say that but did you know that last month was the hottest
- 0:46month on Earth ever in the history of knowing how hot it was on
- 0:52Earth I didn't know that actually it was warm here July 2019 hottest month on
- 0:58record no it's just summer mate it's not global warming did I tell you when when
- 1:03I was in the North Pole and I'm going to get [ __ ] Flack for [ __ ] humble
- 1:06bragging here but I was in the [ __ ] North Pole so shut up all right yeah I
- 1:10know you were when I was in the North Pole earlier this year um I was looking
- 1:14at this fiord which is basically like a it's like a lake that comes in off the
- 1:19the ocean and it's it was the most Lake yeah it's a fancy Lake exactly and it
- 1:23was the most spectacular body of water I've ever seen in my life and I was just
- 1:26basically I was one like one degree short of we weeping you know what I mean
- 1:31at its beauty you know what I mean like it was beautiful and I was like but your
- 1:35tears would have polluted the lake so [ __ ] hold that in all Frozen you know
- 1:39what I mean but um yeah freshw Lake but um this the the local that I was with it
- 1:45is like I said to him I said this is this is amazing it's just amazing and
- 1:50he's like no it's [ __ ] horrible and I was like what are you what are you
- 1:55talking about and he's like up until last year that was a glacier
- 2:00oh of course and I was like holy [ __ ] man it is all about perspective and yeah
- 2:05you can't argue with that can you no we are [ __ ] this planet
- 2:09up yeah yeah there a lot of uh I know we talked about that article with uh the
- 2:15Instagram influencers going on holiday and asking for freebies uh but there's
- 2:18also yeah there was another one I read the other day which apparently this is a
- 2:22really big issue uh [ __ ] Instagram people just trampling all over
- 2:28everything to get photos being like going apparently Iceland is
- 2:33sick of us because you get I bet they are for sure you you can fly from here
- 2:39you can fly to Iceland for 100 bucks and then go [ __ ] trample all over the the
- 2:43[ __ ] snow fields and ruin the ecos system what limited amount of um floor
- 2:49and fora they have there yeah just just get a photo of you lying on top of them
- 2:54yeah yeah or for example this [ __ ] Australian couple that was in barley
- 2:59last week and um this kind of hot Barby looking blond girl um washed her ass in
- 3:05some holy water in a bonese temple what cuz she thought that' be a great photo
- 3:10[ __ ] man oh look it's me I'm washing my ass people are [ __ ] weird man just
- 3:15yeah they are yeah and there was there was an article I read the other week
- 3:18about you the Lavender Fields in France um yeah yeah they go this's this
- 3:23particular area of France you mean the ones fertilized by the bodies of the
- 3:27people who died in like two world wars didn't know that but uh perhaps mhm mhm
- 3:32that's why [ __ ] goes so well there yeah right well I mean this this people's
- 3:36livelihood is growing lavender but then now you've got like they' had photos of
- 3:41it it's just fields and Fields of [ __ ] instagrammers like trampling
- 3:45ripping up like uh bits of lavender and and like destroying the place and so
- 3:50they put signs up on the in the field now saying please respect our livelihood
- 3:55to like to discourage people from taking photos yeah I love the fact that now you
- 4:00have to put a sign up if you want basic respect yeah like please don't trespass on my
- 4:06property yeah don't ruin our ecosystem yeah and then there's one in New Zealand
- 4:10too that was like there's a famous photo of a it's like a tree on an island and
- 4:15uh and then this photographer won a bunch of awards for taking a photo of
- 4:18this this is a beautiful landscape but now it's a competition like you got to
- 4:22get up in the [ __ ] tree and get a photo of yourself and like course you do
- 4:27piss off mate did we ever did we ever learn what happened to that monkey who
- 4:33sued that dude for no for claiming that that picture
- 4:39was taken by him when actually it was taken by the monkey no don't I feel that
- 4:42was something we we wanted to follow up on you know what let's look into it
- 4:46during the week and maybe when we come back after the break we can uh we can
- 4:49follow up on that oh yeah so Luke's not here obviously he's in oh yeah Luke's
- 4:53not here he's [ __ ] stoned out of his mind right now he is living it up in
- 4:58Amsterdam and just when I love it cuz we got a bunch of snaps from him and some VAR
- 5:04social media content and like he was eating a pot brownie okay that's fine
- 5:08you know it's fun it's Amsterdam but did you get that snap just now of him
- 5:13literally just [ __ ] smoking a pipe yeah I know just [ __ ] getting high
- 5:19and he was like I might just smoke a little bit just cuz I miss smoking like
- 5:21you miss smoking a pipe I don't remember you doing that every no I've never once
- 5:25seen you smoke a pipe yeah pets Luke hope we're not going to get in TR in
- 5:31trouble for talking about it he doesn't listen to the podcast his wife does so
- 5:35she might hear it but Luke won't
- 5:39yeah so he's not here and uh and we're I don't know we've been encouraged by our
- 5:44listeners to take a break and so we might just do that um is that a good
- 5:50thing when your listeners encourage you to take a break pleas please stop I
- 5:54think you should go on hiatus yeah yeah it'd be better for the world if you guys
- 5:58just pissed off for well look there's no Star Wars news in there oh no
- 6:01wait yes there is okay sorry guys uh this will just be the same as it always
- 6:06is there is Yeah couple of crazy news articles and then we'll talk about Star
- 6:11Wars yeah Matt before we even get into that I would just say that on your
- 6:15recommendation I've gone and purchased uh all three making of Star Wars books
- 6:21for the iPad the enhanced versions yes um I had the first one as a as a book as
- 6:27an actual book what do you call the book now you like know how now we have an
- 6:30email we call regular male snail mail is there like a derogatory term for an
- 6:34actual book now like hard copy so you could be like in um remember
- 6:39remember hackers the movie hackers with the the plag when he walks in and hands
- 6:43him Mr the plague yeah he hands him the paperwork and he's like GH hard copy
- 6:48that's me that's great yeah well I had a hard copy of making of Star Wars but I
- 6:54couldn't literally hear George Lucas's voice on it so has already surpassed
- 6:58that mind you I do have to look on my iPhone which is not ideal for a
- 7:02big coffee table book but you know I'm enjoying it yeah the only thing I I have
- 7:06to read them on my my iPad or my iPhone I guess but uh cuz my Kindle is like the
- 7:12newer ones have audio like Bluetooth audio and my my kle is like yours yeah
- 7:17and it's literally the first time I've ever thought maybe I need a new Kindle
- 7:20because I always the same because I have I have the paper white which I think is
- 7:24probably the one you have y and it's just good enough which is great which is
- 7:27yeah yeah yeah and it's been abely fine for everything yeah yeah I can't imagine
- 7:32what they're going to add that oh wait audio okay fine now I need it oh there
- 7:36you go yeah they figured it out because I actually I prefer to read on the
- 7:40Kindle than I do on the Kindle app on an on an iPad for example just because of
- 7:44the way the screen is orientated the lights come from the side rather than
- 7:47from the back and I know I'm aware listeners can write in podcast multip
- 7:51nasm.com I'm aware that there aren't really any studies that prove that the
- 7:54strain is less but everyone just says it like it's fact and it does feel like
- 7:57it's true so let's just go with that yeah you know what lights shining right
- 8:02at my eyes or me looking at Cross light uh even if there's no scientific study
- 8:07to say that's different it's [ __ ] different okay it is I enjoy it
- 8:12differently therefore it's different yeah that's enough and that is valid our
- 8:16feelings are valid Matt that's right FS don't care about your feelings
- 8:22Dan no they do not no I like to think Kindle cares about my feelings I like to
- 8:27think they take into consideration that giant corporate entity Amazon yeah they
- 8:32care about our feelings hey man I ordered Groceries on Amazon today and uh
- 8:37I tried to do that yeah like it's just I I order certain things on there we don't
- 8:41have grocery delivery as such yet we have a few grocery delivery
- 8:47companies in Singapore or in Southeast Asia that are pretty good but only
- 8:52Amazon guarantees same day delivery in fact you can get your groceries within 2
- 8:58hours it's pretty good so you can literally be like I feel like a beer and
- 9:02an apple pie and within 2 hours you're [ __ ] having that beer and that apple
- 9:07pie and you haven't left the house yeah right that's pretty NE those are literal
- 9:12examples of what I got with my groceries today is that Whole Foods or do you not
- 9:17have Whole Foods there or is just we don't have Whole Food yeah right okay
- 9:22yeah yeah yeah well there's there's literally no agriculture here in
- 9:26Singapore everything's imported so yeah okay yeah well do we want to get the I mean we
- 9:32could do the Star Wars news get out of the way uh not a huge amount of it um I
- 9:37think we can stretch out these couple of uh small Star Wars uh topics to last the
- 9:42whole episode yep just yeah just for those pay us money to do that that's
- 9:48that's right yeah now how much stock gets put into
- 9:52both of these I don't know yeah I'm not sure if these are legit but they are
- 9:56being reported I mean deadline did first one in quotes so yeah um yep that's
- 10:03right so variety confirmed the first one as well all right well then I mean that
- 10:09it's almost fact I guess uh you and McGregor I mean returning as Obi-Wan uh
- 10:14for a TV series on Disney plus man he must be so happy I mean this is a famous
- 10:19actor you know me this is a this is a guy who lives and works in Hollywood but
- 10:23I've never seen a man beg for something as much as you and McGregor begged for
- 10:27an Oban movie it's just so strange considering how the prequels are seen
- 10:33that I know he just doesn't care he's just like no I [ __ ] just love it
- 10:36whatever well not only does he not care I mean you wouldn't cuz he's a Star Wars
- 10:40fan same as us he's the same age as us he [ __ ] loves Star Wars yeah oh look
- 10:44if they came to me and said would would you be in this prequel spin-off I'd be
- 10:47like I hate the prequels but [ __ ] yeah I'll do it yeah they they could come
- 10:51back to you and say Matt we're going to remake The Phantom Menace shot for shot
- 10:57word for word will and and we want you to play Jar Jar Binks and we and you
- 11:02have to do it exactly asme best did I'm
- 11:06not sure that's but I will do it I will absolutely do it I will do it yeah yeah
- 11:13but Yan [ __ ] loves playing Obi-Wan and he was certainly not the worst part
- 11:18about those movies arguably he was no the best thing about he might be the
- 11:22only one who who's or him and Ian mcdad are definitely having fun look I like to
- 11:28think that Natalie port knows what it was as well yeah you know
- 11:33yeah like she'd worked with great European directors before that it wasn't
- 11:37her first trip to the rodeo sure you know she must have known when she took
- 11:40on that role that okay this is a bit [ __ ] yeah just let me look at George
- 11:45Lucas's other films and see how good the roles for women were hm okay that's
- 11:51right yeah I will canot condone any action that would lead to what yeah okay
- 11:56this is not great [ __ ] no no
- 12:00but look I think Yan Not only was a Star Wars fan but I also think he was a
- 12:05massive fan of Sir Alec Guinness oh yeah and he was honored to take on the role
- 12:08of a young anak Guinness he's now almost the age that Alec was when he played
- 12:13Obi-Wan so I think he's Keen to bridge that Gap as well for sure you know play
- 12:19play Obi-Wan with a little bit of gray in his beard yep yeah but someone was
- 12:23saying this could even be like flashbacks could be part of it or who
- 12:27knows what they do that's true like yeah could yeah that's true could be pretty
- 12:32maybe it'll just be Obi-Wan drinking green milk out of the tits of some big
- 12:36[ __ ] fish C some desert be for all we
- 12:39know stranger things have happened yeah yeah yeah I do Wonder someone uh someone
- 12:45said it could be [ __ ] mad max style on tne where him and Owen L like [ __ ]
- 12:51have an Adventures Mad Max Style with the Tusk and Raiders that be right
- 12:55absolutely yeah I also saw somebody do a mockup poster that's basically the um a
- 13:00fist full of dollars like the the old Samurai movie you know just the kind
- 13:05ofone Samurai walks into town like yeah I mean I'd watch that too well here's
- 13:11hoping it's good yeah it's good one cynical take on
- 13:17this is just that uh this is Disney's attempt to murder Netflix and then we
- 13:23just yeah they'll just cancel all of these shows with the big stars as soon
- 13:28as that happens maybe I don't know because Disney's plan
- 13:31for Disney plus which is their Ott platform is not just to rival Netflix
- 13:36but it's to rival cinemas as well like this this is the platform you can
- 13:42receive Disney content on from whenever it starts into Infinity yeah yeah this
- 13:48is the future of watching things yeah Disney from now on will be Disney plus
- 13:52and it'll be synonymous and there'll be no separation they'll lose the Plus at
- 13:57one point and it'll just be Disney it'll just be Disney yeah that's right and it will be
- 14:02everything you'll be ordering your groceries from there shortly yeah Disney
- 14:07Disney related groceries yeah after they absorb Amazon all right well I mean I'll
- 14:13I'm very interested in uh in this even if even if [ __ ] I'm interested in it so
- 14:19put it this way I'm more interested in this than of a few other Star Wars
- 14:23properties that have been thrown around sure well like what say got an example a
- 14:29like for example Ryan Johnson's Trilogy that he keeps insisting he's doing yeah
- 14:35he's talk he's had another he's brought it up against still insisting yeah of
- 14:39course he has yeah well I mean look we don't know whether it's been
- 14:45cancelled so we can assume that it hasn't and he's still talking he's
- 14:48talking about it we don't know it was officially green L yeah I got nothing
- 14:53against Ryan Johnson no think that if you and me and Luke and
- 14:59Ryan Johnson hung out one day like we would have a great time he seems like a
- 15:03fun gu and and maybe taken apart from all this [ __ ] burden that he was
- 15:10given with you know the Last Jedi maybe he'll do a good good job on on some
- 15:14separate stuff so he's hoping this will be good yep yep y a lot of pressure
- 15:18honestly we don't know I mean look he was the writer and the director and
- 15:23obviously that says a lot he's officially the author of the film but as
- 15:28we know about the Studio system in Hollywood you've got to take on any idea
- 15:32that anyone above you gives you oh absolutely you know what I mean so like
- 15:36for all we know Ryan Johnson [ __ ] hates the space iron and just can't say
- 15:41anything well look at Alien 3 David Fincher directed Alien 3 yes or did he
- 15:47yeah like [ __ ] me that's right what a
- 15:50disaster so yeah don't blame a soft spot for I've got I've still got a soft spot
- 15:57for Alien 3 and I think I always will yeah me too but
- 16:01um it's not it's not a certainly not a David finer film
- 16:05no that's got my friend Lance in it and uh and uh it certainly does yeah love l
- 16:11i mean they filmed it on the sets built for a completely different movie also
- 16:14called Alien 3 yes but but with a totally different script yeah which you
- 16:19can listen to on Audible now holy [ __ ] can you the William Gibson one what
- 16:25you're talking about oh that's yeah yeah the oh that's great I'm going to check
- 16:30that out for sure yeah R and there's a comic book uh series that they made of
- 16:35it too yeah that I did know about yeah and it was going to be an Australian
- 16:39director the director of the only thing I know him of is he made a movie called
- 16:44The Navigator did you ever see that not Flight of the Navigator no it was uh it
- 16:51was about a bunch of medieval monks that
- 16:56had the plague that went into a hole in the ground and came out in modernday New
- 17:02Zealand what have you ever heard of this movie no but it sounds great I sounds
- 17:08weird but that's fine neither has Google it just Co okay the Navigator a medieval
- 17:14Odyssey Australian New Zealand co-production directed by Vincent Ward
- 17:18so that's who it was that was going to do Alien 3 initially and even he [ __ ]
- 17:24walked off that project you know what I mean yeah yeah
- 17:29oh and he wasn't in a position to be throwing any weight around in Hollywood
- 17:33well I told you I mean I I've told you the story Lance henrion told me about
- 17:36Alien 3 right where they the studio called him and said can you come in and
- 17:41do you want to be in Alien 3 and he said no I'm good and then they said no just
- 17:44come in for a day we just want need you to show up and then he said what what
- 17:47what am I going to be doing and they're like oh we haven't figured that out yet
- 17:49just uh pop on over and have a cup of tea and we'll we'll call you in when we
- 17:53figure out what we want you to do and he was like fine and so I asked him what
- 17:58the deal was with his character yeah in that movie uh whan and he said I don't
- 18:03know so no idea sounds good yeah I I believe that yeah there's nothing about
- 18:10that story I don't believe having seen the film yep all right well it's
- 18:14speaking of Hollywood H I'm not going to say too much about this but I saw a film
- 18:20last night that I just want to mention briefly oh is it what I think it is go
- 18:24on I watched Once Upon a Time in Hollywood I want to watch that go on
- 18:28yeah you do want to watch it mhmh you do want to watch it don't read anything
- 18:31about it just go and watch it okay the anything I've read about it is I know
- 18:35people are complaining about some Bruce Le stuff that's all I know about it so
- 18:38far they definitely are complaining about Bruce Lee stuff and I understand
- 18:42why if you saw the movie and you watched all the way to the end you might not
- 18:46complain because there's a few things in this movie that are given let's say uh
- 18:52unique spin okay but there's a reason
- 18:56for that and um I I mean look I I'll see
- 19:00anything Tarantino comes out with right and um I don't love everything but I'll
- 19:06but I'll see everything it's always worth watching um but I also will watch
- 19:11any film that comes out about the family the Manson family sure and uh and you
- 19:18know last year there was a movie came out called Charlie says did you see that
- 19:22no no I didn't that was interesting and and it was focused on the
- 19:27female kind of that the aspect of what what would have to happen to a woman
- 19:31before she could be brainwashed in the way that these women were brainwashed by
- 19:34Charlie Manson um and and this is the total opposite of that you know like
- 19:39this is a very new way of even approaching the subject right of of the
- 19:45family um don't go into it
- 19:49expecting Pulp Fiction 2 it's not a whole bunch of like really cool set
- 19:54pieces with like Snappy dialogue and stuff it's a much subtler um much more
- 19:59of a think piece and um things you think are maybe going to be like big parts of
- 20:03the movie are actually just little parts and vice versa but definitely worth a
- 20:08watch and I'm hoping to go and see it again this week actually yeah for second
- 20:12view I really want to see I don't know whether I'm going to get to before we go
- 20:15away so yeah well unfortunately I went to Italy to check if there was a decent
- 20:21way of watching in Italy and it doesn't seem like there is so um you do have to
- 20:25hang out for the for the cinema if you want a proper experience I suggest you
- 20:29do all right yeah I will I uh I watched this week uh
- 20:36inspired by Luke and yourself I went back to something that I had sort gu
- 20:42sort of forgotten about uh I started to watch it uh and then got distracted I
- 20:46went back to the expanse oh yeah and I've watched uh the
- 20:51first season now just the first season okay yep y I've only watched the first
- 20:55season to so [ __ ] great man it's [ __ ] [ __ ] fantastic isn't it yeah it's
- 21:00really good I'm glad I'm glad I I I will say and look Thomas Jane gives a solid
- 21:05performance in everything he's ever done yeah I like Thomas Jane but this is his
- 21:10best role yeah oh yeah he's great there's something about the way he plays
- 21:14this character that just I mean when you're when you're
- 21:19making a fantasy movie a science fiction movie like the the Temptation is there
- 21:24that to just go really over the top but actually the way that you the way that
- 21:28you work build a really great science fiction universe is to go the opposite
- 21:32way and just play it for absolute truth and I think that's why the expanse is so
- 21:37successful for me is that this is just [ __ ] people like living their lives
- 21:44doing their [ __ ] you know there's politics there's Wars yeah and it just so happens that
- 21:51some of them are from Mars and some of them from Earth and some of them are
- 21:54from somewhere else yeah like Thomas Jane lives on a space station and has his whole life
- 21:59so like and yeah he just that's just his
- 22:03character and Y it's not over the top or anything it's just he's just a guy that
- 22:08grew up that way and there's um he uh he
- 22:12the hat that he wears I read a thing about the other day he uh they had a
- 22:17costume all picked out for him and he had it on and he was like nah I got a
- 22:22hat it's better and then they'll like oh we picked the hat and he was like no no
- 22:26no this one's not right and then he he came in with the you the little tril
- 22:29that he wears and they like yeah no he's right that's better all right yeah man
- 22:33that tril is literally his character summed up in one one article it suits
- 22:38fits perfectly uh yeah and and other characters constantly refer to it as
- 22:43being ridiculous which it is that's right yeah yeah it's
- 22:50great now good show really enjoy it look I must say there's there's been at least
- 22:54once where I've looked at his haircut and going could I pull that off yep
- 22:59I definitely couldn't because I don't have I definitely couldn't either yeah
- 23:02so yeah and you know and neither of us look like Thomas Jane let's be honest
- 23:06but uh but he's rad it's a great show and he's doing a great job of it yeah
- 23:11everybody's uh really good in it yeah yeah yeah and I uh and I have a feeling
- 23:17it's going to just keep layering and layering those because there's a lot
- 23:22going stories on yeah and uh and some of the some of the threads have woven
- 23:26together but some of them have not yet and I'm interested to see that's right
- 23:30how yeah well I assume they will be weird if they didn't cuz what the [ __ ]
- 23:35was that for yeah well that's right as far as I know as far as I know they're
- 23:40still going they haven't been canceled yet which is odd for a show that we love
- 23:44um especially science fiction right so you know cut those off real quick as far
- 23:50as I know even if they haven't wrapped up some of the story lines that they
- 23:53still plan to yep yeah well there's just a couple of sequences where I'm not I
- 23:57don't know what I don't know why I I didn't I enjoyed watching a thing happen I just don't
- 24:03know what the relevance of it was yet yeah there's a couple of things like
- 24:06that I know exactly what you mean yeah yeah I don't know why I saw that yet but
- 24:10I'm sure I will yeah and then when you look back on it I'm sure you'll it'll
- 24:15enrich itself in your memory even more exactly it'll make sense yeah great and
- 24:20beautiful just so beautifully short oh I know yeah like yeah like I I would say
- 24:25even I I I think my Pinnacle for television episodic science fiction has
- 24:31always been Battlestar Galactica because
- 24:34I feel they took Sci-Fi TV and just just
- 24:39one uped it just leveled it up in a way that was unexpected and and and
- 24:43Brilliant yeah and I feel this this Builds on that because it's reminiscent
- 24:48of battl star in many many ways but also just adds a layer of artistry to the
- 24:53photography and the set designs and everything that I just feel is just so
- 24:58so valuable you know yeah it's very convincing like yeah yeah like like it's
- 25:04you know like sometimes you watch a TV show and it looks like a TV show this
- 25:07does not look like yeah looks like TV yeah this just looks like like like a
- 25:10movie it just looks like they filming on a spaceship like yeah and not just a
- 25:14movie like there even in the pilot episode in the first episode there's
- 25:17there's some specific scenes where I'm just like [ __ ] hell man I've never
- 25:21seen a movie looked this good yeah totally you know I read uh I finished
- 25:26that [ __ ] zero gravity sex scene yes I know like and all all the Zer G stuff
- 25:31like it's it's solid yeah yeah I finished that sorry to bring it back to
- 25:36Star Wars again sorry Craig um oh please do Craig just calm it down mate calm it
- 25:42down I finished that book the one I was the the Star Wars book and uh the secret
- 25:47history no no no this was how Star Wars conquered the universe oh that's right
- 25:51yeah um and there was a section about how uh well first of all it kind of
- 25:55changed my opinion of George Lucas a bit in the late years sounds like he turned
- 25:59into a bit of a knob um oh okay well
- 26:03lost perspective sounds like a lot of projects that got canned uh one example
- 26:09was remember that 1313 game yes the the bounty hunting
- 26:14game Apparently one of the issues that they had that caused it to be canceled
- 26:18was that uh George Lucas wandered in one day like deep deep into production
- 26:24looked at it and said this game is now about Boba Fett and then like well you
- 26:29can't this too late and then he was like No And then yeah so that happened
- 26:34apparently yeah of course that that certainly does align
- 26:38with what we do know yes he he he likes to fiddle with things apparently
- 26:44certainly does any respect and he likes to bring everything back to the core
- 26:48elements yeah the Clone Wars uh series was not supposed to have any main
- 26:53characters in it the whole plan was to do a new thing and then he said and then
- 26:56and then he they pitched him and what about Obi-Wan no it needs to be about
- 27:01Obi-Wan and Anakin and then they were like all right fine that's happening
- 27:05then but so then the budget for that went through the roof and then the other
- 27:09one I was going to mention was there was uh there were plans they talked about it
- 27:12for years I'm sure you recall about Star Wars TV shows and oh yeah yeah uh you
- 27:17reminded me just them because one of the things that they were they were spending
- 27:19a lot of time doing was researching how Battlestar Galactica did what they did
- 27:24on their budget because whenever they tried to come up with like George would
- 27:29come up with [ __ ] ideas and then the budget would just go it' be like $20
- 27:33million an episode and they were like we can't do it that's right yeah couldn't
- 27:36do it yeah even if literally everyone in the world watches it we still wouldn't
- 27:39make any money exactly and so but they just couldn't make it happen because he
- 27:43wouldn't yeah yeah there was there was just no middle ground ever wouldn't turn
- 27:47it down never happened that's right that's so interesting you know I read a
- 27:51really interesting Theory the other day um spoilers if anyone hasn't watched a
- 27:57bunch of Star Wars movies but I mean that doesn't really count here so sure
- 28:01but um I read that it is no
- 28:05accident that original trilogy characters are being killed off from the
- 28:11current Disney Star Wars movies because anytime that Disney make
- 28:16a film with Han Luke or Leia in it they have to pay George
- 28:23Lucas sure I mean it's a cynical point of view
- 28:28but it it makes sense like if you can get people to love Ray and Finn and po
- 28:34just as much as they loved Luke and Han and Leia then well why are we paying
- 28:38this old man a whole shitload of money because I think what people don't
- 28:42understand too is that Disney didn't buy Star Wars lockstock and Barrel they
- 28:46bought the licensing rights to Star Wars they bought the rights to make more
- 28:50movies they bought the rights to distribute the original films in certain
- 28:54forms but not others like George Lucas still retains a lot of control sure
- 28:59especially over his own characters
- 29:04yeah well it's just business was obviously an accident but yeah was it
- 29:09was it Dan oh oh Jesus you know what we should kill off
- 29:14Carrie Fisher because uh I don't you mean to say princess ler no no I I yeah
- 29:20I think I made myself perfectly
- 29:24clear yeah yeah well from the sounds of it they tried to kill off Harrison Ford
- 29:31in uh Force awakens I mean he was certainly injured well he he's try
- 29:35character off since the beginning I know well they seem to be trying to kill off
- 29:38Daniel Craig too and I don't mean James Bond I mean they seem to be trying to
- 29:42kill Daniel Craig on bond 25 as well oh is he is he injured again yeah he's
- 29:47injured again [ __ ] he's off they've shut down production cuz he's injured oh God
- 29:53no trailer teaser trailer did you see that no it's not it's not a trailer for
- 29:59the film it's like a behind the scenes little sneak peek just basically because
- 30:04the studio were paranoid that like [ __ ] this might never get made and people
- 30:07might forget who James Bond is by the time this comes out yeah right yeah
- 30:12[ __ ] H I watched I watched something this week I know you've seen uh I
- 30:19watched the sin season 2 because it came out on I know you watched and loved the sin
- 30:24season one so I'm very interested to hear what you thought of this because it
- 30:28is quite different yeah it is actually uh and uh I really enjoyed it I enjoyed
- 30:34the first season more I'm so glad you did I really I enjoyed it and I I picked
- 30:39I I kind of picked what was what was going on early in this uh maybe because
- 30:46I'm just cynical and I was like oh it's going to this is what's going to happen
- 30:49um yeah yeah yeah but but I did really enjoy yeah and I also don't think it was
- 30:54as big a stretch as the plot in the Sin season 1 right where that really did
- 30:59blow my [ __ ] mind you know yeah because you couldn't have really guessed
- 31:03no that's right you had no idea and in fact the The Genius of The Sinner was
- 31:09that it gave you all the information you needed so you never felt it was a
- 31:15mystery sure except that you knew [ __ ] nothing right and that that's
- 31:20why it was so good because you never knew you were behind the Apple but you always were
- 31:26yeah yeah not so much but I still liked it a lot no I liked it I that kid was a
- 31:31the kid's good actor uh so that was that was good uh I'm always surprised when
- 31:36kids are good in in shows I guess it shouldn't be these days but there was a
- 31:39period whenever a kid was in something it was like oh God I agree completely
- 31:43agree you just wouldn't watch something if there was a kid in it yeah cuz it's
- 31:46just not going to be convincing yeah it seemed like in the 80s it really peaked
- 31:50things like the never- Ending Story that had fantastic kid actor performances
- 31:54yeah and then and then just awful and then The Phantom Menace came along
- 32:00yeah that's right oh my god um yeah yeah and then all the other all the other
- 32:05performances were great it's got what's his name from [ __ ] man of the High
- 32:08castles in it I think you told me that at the time but I didn't remember and
- 32:13then when he showed up I was like oh you see a photo of him first and I was like
- 32:16oh my God it's that gu yeah that's right and the mother is from the third season
- 32:22of no sorry this yeah the third season of of Fargo which you haven't you
- 32:26haven't got that far you should on were they doing here's something I finished I
- 32:32asked Jenna what she thought we weren't sure right they did a great job of
- 32:37making her look differently aged in the flashbacks yeah like was that dig or is
- 32:43she completely subtle way right like is it just just a haircut or that was very
- 32:48convincing it's literally just the way that they did her hair and makeup and
- 32:51and her clothes as well and and and I was trying to figure out is she does she
- 32:55actually in real life look like the young version or the older version cuz
- 33:00that was very convincing or halfway in between maybe yeah yeah that was that
- 33:05was really well done yeah I agree so yeah C season 2 really good
- 33:12bill Pullman's just [ __ ] great I love how magnificent his performance in it
- 33:17it's just so like it's just so real like the it's not like a TV show like when
- 33:23he's there's that he's at the party and he's having those awkward conversations
- 33:27with people cuz he's just I'm like it just fing stri a man that
- 33:32you swear that Bill Pullman doesn't like being in this show yeah you know like he
- 33:38he just seems so out doesn't seem to want to be anywhere yeah it's so
- 33:43convincing yeah he's just talking to all those guys at the party and they're all
- 33:46like yeah how's it going mate oh and then he's just like yeah I I know the SC
- 33:51you mean but also anytime he speaks because season 2 he's kind of back in
- 33:55his hometown right so it's anytime he's speaking to anyone it's like yeah this
- 34:00is the reason I left the first time around I don't really fit in here yeah
- 34:05like but just like in a really visceral way like he's just so uncomfortable but
- 34:11yeah yeah [ __ ] great hope they do more just CU I yeah and I thought it was interesting
- 34:17because obviously the C season 1 he played the detective yes that was just
- 34:23kind of a supporting character to the main narrative and then
- 35:28red herring waiting to make you think that maybe they're the killer right
- 35:32right yeah you know yeah everybody's got a TV show they can explore that
- 35:38that's right more yeah and in a show like The Killing um which I've actually
- 35:43kind of forgotten about I there's probably seasons of that I still haven't seen
- 35:47um I think I've only seen three so there's probably there probably still
- 35:51one out there I'm going to look into that but uh you know that's I mean
- 35:54that's the same for me it's just like just interesting people going about
- 36:00interesting lives and also there's been a murder yeah you can we we I'm sure we
- 36:06may have talked about this but what's his [ __ ] what's his name the guy from
- 36:08that uh who was yeah the the um he wanted to be
- 36:12RoboCop um Rober and uh uh Joel kinman yeah Joel kinman man he's [ __ ] tops
- 36:19for starters like what a great actor yeah uh but but second like what a
- 36:24transformation from like that character like physical
- 36:30transformation for starters cuz he's [ __ ] jacked these days like was he
- 36:33jacked at the time he was a [ __ ] junky no man he look like a [ __ ] drug
- 36:37addict or was that just a good physical performance like like but yeah man I
- 36:42would not have picked that guy going on to become a [ __ ] you know like studly
- 36:47[ __ ] you know sex and even in things like the the academy award-winning um
- 36:51suici Suicide Squad yes yeah yeah but also let's not forget he's English as a
- 36:57second language oh yeah he Swedish he's [ __ ] Danish Swedish or something like
- 37:00that yeah but like like all those accents are fake CU he speaks Danish
- 37:07yeah fantastic the way he speaks in the killing is completely different from you
- 37:12know he was in was aled carbon he's [ __ ] jacked in that yeah oh yeah man
- 37:17yeah yeah oh you know what I finally caught up on uh which I hadn't seen when
- 37:20we discussed it on this podcast ep's a bit gay I just
- 37:25noticed we're just talking about men we like yeah suppose it is yeah there
- 37:30[ __ ] nothing gay about thinking that Joel kenan's awesome I mean there's more
- 37:34RoboCop news coming up if we want to talk about how gay we are for Neil Blom
- 37:38Camp as well well he's he's this is sad
- 37:41news in that case I know I know he's uh he's he's dropped out he's not he's not
- 37:47doing it yeah yeah know they they he's got he's got another commitment he's
- 37:51doing a I think a horror film and the the studi said well now we're filming
- 37:55robic cop now and so yeah he's had to drop out which is so weird like I know
- 38:02so who's we don't know who's going to do it but no we we don't know
- 38:08forit no it definitely doesn't and I think that might have just been a way to
- 38:11get get him off the project I I don't know why the studio would want him off
- 38:14the project but it's you know if you want someone on your on your film you
- 38:17make it work you know yeah and films don't take that long to do so if he was
- 38:21doing a little indie horror movie right you've definitely got time just make him
- 38:25do a bit of extra homework doing a bit of pre-production and then yeah well
- 38:29unless I guess we don't know what the the business side of it is maybe they
- 38:32need to get this movie out to make their [ __ ] you know to keep their license
- 38:37or something like that yeah or to you know they've got targets if the meet for
- 38:40[ __ ] some period or some garage I don't know if RoboCop's let necessarily
- 38:46like a [ __ ] guaranteed gold M I know but we like to think I I feel like and
- 38:50again this is the cynical part of me coming up but we' like to think of films
- 38:54as kind of art almost but most of the time not it's like these Star Wars films
- 39:00like the people in charge don't give a [ __ ] about what we think about Star Wars
- 39:05from our childhood they're just looking at the bottom line no no yeah and look
- 39:09and and when the bottom line is dependent on it being a good film yeah
- 39:15then they then they do come on board like I I really do honestly believe that
- 39:19the people behind Marvel Studios know that the reason they make more money is
- 39:23because their films are better films yes so they try to make better films but at
- 39:28the end of the day it's not cuz they're a bunch of artists it's cuz they know
- 39:31that makes more money and and just to be clear I'm not talking about Neil Blom
- 39:34Camp I'm I believe that Neil Blum Camp does care about RoboCop in the way that
- 39:38we do I'm talking about the people that just fired him because he didn't have
- 39:42the time for it right now those people don't always admire about yeah for sure
- 39:48exactly and and like also you and I in
- 39:52particular and other people our age we watch
- 39:58RoboCop as a [ __ ] Masterpiece of 80s
- 40:02science fiction film making yeah there's like this we could we could do a whole
- 40:07entire podcast just on you know a thesis on RoboCop totally but for most people
- 40:13that you ask they'd probably be like do you mean that [ __ ] shitty action
- 40:17movie from the 80s about a Robocop yeah yeah exactly so you know like I
- 40:23think I think we're putting a bit more emphasis on it than like when they when they green
- 40:28it wasn't because some [ __ ] executive producer you know at Fox or wherever was
- 40:33like I just really love RoboCop it was because they were looking at a this of
- 40:36what do we own that we can can spit out to make money what yeah what's not going
- 40:40to cost us a lot and that might make a lot of return yeah what are what are
- 40:44people nostalgic about that we can [ __ ] out a sequel to yeah that's right yeah
- 40:49the people that used to get paid by their parents to go to the movies are
- 40:55now buying their own tickets what do they want to right the thing about Blom Camp though
- 41:00that I really admire is that he obviously he was the maker of
- 41:04commercials and short films he made a great short film called alive in jber
- 41:09that we all watched before it was anything more than just a short film
- 41:13that he then turned into District 9 which was [ __ ] amazing MH um chappie
- 41:17was a short too sort of there was the yeah it was it was not called that and
- 41:23it was different in story but that's right yeah it was about the yeah exactly
- 41:28and I mean he came from a background of visual effects and so he was always
- 41:32making characters I think chappie was a character he had come up with previously
- 41:36yeah um but he seems to be so Jaded by the Hollywood System that he still finds
- 41:42a way to make short films like there's always a short film Neil Blom Camp is
- 41:47working on yeah totally and like we all [ __ ] know I mean we know there's no
- 41:52money in short films unless somebody can buy a movie
- 41:56ticket to it there's no m in it well he did I remember when he just loves making
- 41:59films yeah exactly I I remember when live and Joo came out and the thing
- 42:03about it and this is probably not going to be impressive to to people these days
- 42:07cuz you can do this [ __ ] on your phone now but the special effects in it the
- 42:11way that it was handheld camera yes with visual effects done on a low budget yeah
- 42:17because it was before motion tracking was a thing yeah and it was like how the
- 42:21[ __ ] did they how how did they get that spaceship in the handheld shot yeah
- 42:27looks like a handy cam was just whipping around and yet there's a spaceship that
- 42:32couldn't possibly have been there on the day cuz you had to lock the camera off
- 42:35if you wanted to add a spaceship in back in the day CU otherwise it was going to
- 42:39wasn't going to look right yeah yeah that's right and now you can download
- 42:44the uh cine FX app and just [ __ ] do it yourself yeah do it on your phone but
- 42:49that was not possible in when the '90s I guess was yeah I remember we were
- 42:55sharing around live at Jo and just saying look [ __ ] this suck some some
- 43:00nerd in South Africa has made this radical short film and then we were just
- 43:05like [ __ ] all right this guy's destined for big things and yeah and well I think
- 43:10Peter Jackson saw that same short film and and thought the same thing and
- 43:14funded uh District 9 yeah and then he just got kind of swallowed up by the
- 43:20Hollywood system which is unfortunate what's alysium he did and then uh
- 43:25something else too uh I didn't love aium no no it's got It's got a lot of stuff I
- 43:31like in it but it's not not as good as uh not great let's be honest and then no
- 43:37and there's there's one or two things about it that I particularly dislike
- 43:41yeah right I'm uh talking about kind of writing and performance- wise I'm
- 43:47specifically talking about the [ __ ] bad guy I thought she was horribly
- 43:52written and horribly performed and kind of an insult to the intelligence
- 43:57audience yeah Jody Foster yeah okay if you want to name names sure it's
- 44:02Jody calling you out I mean not the people couldn't have found that out
- 44:07themselves subcription I just I just did not feel like I could just literally
- 44:11just if you're Foster name names patreon.com multipl
- 44:16nerdgasm you yeah uh I got a brief
- 44:22update well this this is a little a little older news now but of interest
- 44:26because we had talked about uh Movie Pass which was the service here in the
- 44:29US that I was I was a member of did you say was was the service well I I maybe
- 44:34maybe it's still going I'm not sure I canceled mine because it was too [ __ ]
- 44:38random I didn't I didn't work I have to check on a given day whether I'm
- 44:42actually allowed to see any movies or not which defeats the purpose of it um
- 44:47but one thing that they did uh it's come out now I think some documents got
- 44:51leaked uh and when so okay for listeners who don't know Movie Pass was a service
- 44:55in the US uh where you pay basically when I was a member it was 10 bucks a
- 45:00month and you could just go see a movie every day uh any movie at the time uh
- 45:06and for free not for free because you pay 10 bucks a month but yeah like
- 45:10Netflix Netflix of Cinema yeah yeah and over time they changed I sign I'd sign
- 45:15up for that in a heartbeat right well I did but then they changed it and then it
- 45:19was there were restrictions it was only certain movies and then it was only
- 45:22certain times a day and they just tried all this stuff cuz they were just
- 45:24bleeding money all over the place cuz you know it was not a working bus model yeah yeah
- 45:30and then and then I canel mine because it was just like I said I have to if I
- 45:33wanted to go see a movie I'd have to check what are the rules right now like
- 45:36can I even go and see this and then it was just stupid yeah um and it's come
- 45:42out now that something that they did when uh endgame Avengers endgame came
- 45:47out they were like okay we've got a uh there's a segment of our users who see a
- 45:53fuckload of movies and they're costing us tons and tons of money
- 45:57they're going to go see endgame every day right what can we do to to prevent
- 46:03that CU we can't afford to keep going like this so they came up with a
- 46:07brilliant idea apparently their CEO said just change their passwords on
- 46:11them then they can't log into the app and they won't be able to
- 46:15go and what so they
- 46:18did they uh what they just changed people's passwords on them and so they
- 46:25couldn't go to the movies
- 46:30what yeah I know right genius that can't
- 46:33be a thing no they did apparently they did
- 46:38wow wow so [ __ ] you movie pass yeah wow I mean
- 46:44that's that's I'm say allegedly allegedly you know don't sue me I'm just
- 46:49this is what the Verge oh nothing to do with us there's an article here this is
- 46:54It's been alleged that uh that that according to the the CEO said just
- 46:58change their passwords if they can't log into the app they can't go see the movie
- 47:02so problem solved but didn't they get bombarded
- 47:08with complaints just just ignore them Danny
- 47:12just fair yeah yeah just ignore just don't answer the phone yeah and then
- 47:16once endgame is out of Cinemas just address them say oh sorry about
- 47:21that [ __ ]
- 47:24genius so yes movie part pass not long is it still going let me check movie
- 47:31thank you for your patience uh Movie Pass has been restored
- 47:35oh you can't sign up right now okay I I you have to join the waiting list well
- 47:41it sounds like they're going great and it's now $20 a month which is twice what
- 47:46it was when I was a member true but if you and a friend go
- 47:51once a month that's still 20 bucks worth so but like my biggest concern with it is
- 47:57my experience with it sucked because well it worked really really well and I
- 48:02loved it for about six months and then at a certain point they ran out of money
- 48:06and they couldn't get any more money cuz they I guess they catched in all the
- 48:09credit that they had with the banks and whatever sure and so they just started
- 48:12changing the rules and and it was like I said every day the rules were different
- 48:17and I couldn't see a movie that I wanted to see so what's the point of it yeah
- 48:21well absolutely right and then now all the actually one positive that came out
- 48:25all of the cinemas here now have their own Subscription
- 48:28Service uh if you want they they're more expensive obviously because the price
- 48:33point was was a joke but well I mean in this day and age where most Cinemas play
- 48:38most movies that's probably viable you know back in the day you had to kind of
- 48:42you know go to a specific Cinema to see a specific film but most of the most of
- 48:47the theaters in this area uh Showcase Cinemas and showcase has a subscription
- 48:52service that I think is I think it's 20 a month off the top of my head
- 48:57uh and I I don't know what the restrictions are if there are any but uh
- 49:03you know that's that's better than they're not having anything at all so if
- 49:07it if it's 20 bucks a month with absolutely no restrictions then I think
- 49:10it's probably worth it if you absolutely if you go more than twice a many movies
- 49:13as we do yeah yeah yeah or even if you just want to go more than twice a month
- 49:19you know what I mean like maybe you wouldn't go but if you had a
- 49:21subscription you're like [ __ ] it it's the I'll go to the movies I saw films I
- 49:24wouldn't have bothered when cuz I was
- 49:27like why not like yeah well I remember when I was a kid the penth Panthers
- 49:34Leagues Club had a cinema that if you were a member tickets were free yep
- 49:39completely free and you could go to see every session of it if you wanted to and
- 49:44if someone in your family had a membership you essentially had a
- 49:46membership too so there was one summer where I just saw every movie every movie
- 49:53yeah because why not yeah it's like oh I would never go see this [ __ ] it I'll go
- 49:58and see it when you we love movies we'll see them like yeah yeah a lot of people
- 50:04have put in an effort to make this a good movie even if it wasn't something
- 50:07that was on my radar I'll you know I'll let's go and see it yeah I'll tell you a
- 50:11movie you won't be seeing unfortunately is the hunt okay are you are you familiar with the
- 50:18hunt uh I'm not familiar with the hunt so I uh I I I knew about the hunt
- 50:24because it stars Glenn Howton who who is
- 50:27uh okay one of my my favorite people uh
- 50:31in the world actors from Glen hton from Always Sunny in Philadelphia [ __ ]
- 50:37hilarious guy sure yeah and he's also in uh what's the other show he's in there
- 50:43uh AP Bio he's in oh okay anyway Fu hilarious know that is but if he's in it
- 50:49I'd consider seeing it he was in a film called The Hunt I don't think he's a
- 50:52main character but he had he had a role in it so he was sharing uh trailers and
- 50:56whatnot on his Instagram so I was aware of this film The the story of the film
- 51:00is that a bunch of uh really Lefty people are
- 51:06kidnapping uh I think you know really right- wiy people and hunting them for
- 51:11SP oh no I did see this yeah yeah yeah know I saw this I saw this trailer yeah
- 51:16uh yeah yeah well they've canel it completely because of I think
- 51:22specifically because of the recent shootings um and the and the I guess
- 51:28the it's a parody obviously of the Very extreme politics yeah in the world these
- 51:34days uh but I think because of the extreme politics they've had to cancel
- 51:38it I think that's what it BS right does that also mean I can't watch jeanclaude
- 51:43Van Dam's '90s classic nowhere to run which is basically also the same uh
- 51:48premise uh I think you could probably still get that one I mean this I think
- 51:53hopefully this will still have a release of some sort on uh you know on on
- 51:57digital or or dvd well DVD obviously but you know hopefully they'll still get
- 52:01some sort of they not going to be in theaters they've canceled it so
- 52:05yeah that's a shame at first they just canceled the ads and then they canceled
- 52:10the release like a week later it's got Hillary Swank in well
- 52:15look I mean I I guess the reason they've look people don't students don't cancel
- 52:21movies because they're going to offend people they cancel movies because it's
- 52:24going to cost them more to play it than it will make them yeah so obviously they think
- 52:29there's going to be a big enough boycott of this movie that it's just not worth
- 52:32their while right you might as well shove it and then maybe later on they
- 52:35can release it and get some money yeah yeah uh which is a shame because it
- 52:40certainly does feel like censorship doesn't it yeah I guess
- 52:46um it's just like oh this topic is taboo now therefore you can't I mean it's like
- 52:51it's like Louis CK's movie about um what is and what isn't sexual harassment that
- 52:55came out right before it came out that he was sexually harass harassing people sure
- 53:02yeah yeah I I mean I can see why you wouldn't release the film I'll be honest
- 53:06yeah so fair enough I just it's just a shame I feel I I
- 53:12know doent no no I know but but if it's if people aren't you know people are
- 53:18going to be Mass massively against it or upset by it I mean yeah you don't want
- 53:23to be on the wrong side of History Pi battles like yeah absolutely I just feel
- 53:28bad for like I said the actors and the and the it was written by Damon Lindelof
- 53:32uh oh man yeah I mean I mean he's fine he's got up yeah yeah you'll just start
- 53:37something else he's fine yeah so yeah it uh obviously it went nowhere if if he
- 53:44wrote it it was just he they just made it up oh yeah yeah would wouldn't have
- 53:47been an ending definitely wouldn't have been an ending that's a lost joke if
- 53:52listeners yeah don't know who Damon lindeloff
- 53:55is good though I like him uh yeah I like I like the way he writes I just don't
- 54:02like the way he writes endings yeah well that was lost was an
- 54:06experiment I think you I think you got to give him credit I love Mane I I give
- 54:11him all props for that I lost was amazing I'm Sor they deserve more credit
- 54:14for it than that I understand why people were pissed off about it but like if you
- 54:18knew that's what they were doing you shouldn't have been surprised like
- 54:21exactly right yeah when they wrote the pilot of that they had nobody's
- 54:26backstory written yes they had no idea where they were going like they did what
- 54:31they set out to do with lost and then if if it got to the end and you realized
- 54:35that's what they were doing and you didn't like it sorry that but that
- 54:38exactly that was the plan all along was would just throw [ __ ] at the wall and
- 54:43see what works yeah yeah it's a mystery that never stops being a mystery yeah
- 54:49that's right and in all the there's that hilarious College Humor video where it's
- 54:53like all the Loose Ends that they never followed up on yeah they know they did
- 54:57it on purpose yeah that's right yeah they were just like I'm going to put a
- 55:00polar bear in there why no reason yeah we'll figure that out later if people
- 55:05talk about it if if if no one if no one on the Internet is wondering about yeah
- 55:11we just we'll ignore it yeah yeah and if people start like we we wrote a hatch
- 55:16into one episode that we didn't think we're ever going to come back to and
- 55:18then everyone was like what's in the hatch so we were like well I don't know
- 55:21maybe we'll show you yeah season 2 is about to hatch now because you reacted
- 55:26to the hatch cuz yeah that's right cuz you going to freak the [ __ ] out about
- 55:30the hatch yeah it's pretty I mean I don't know I like it I'm into it man I
- 55:35appreciate it I'm into it and I actually thought I I didn't watch it when it
- 55:40aired uh it was just way too much hype about it and I had other things to watch
- 55:46and then when I went back and started watching season one I was like oh holy
- 55:50[ __ ] I was totally wrong and I was a snob and this is great yeah you know
- 55:54like this is just so good and then for me at least until the third season it
- 55:59got consecutively better sure and then maybe it tap it off after
- 56:05that yeah well a certain till the end they had you know and then I guess is
- 56:11the politics and and the goings on behind it I guess shouldn't matter but
- 56:15they they do matter to me and you know the stuff like Michelle Rodriguez was in
- 56:19it for a bit and then it's like her character just disappeared cuz she got
- 56:22done for DUI in Hawaii when they were filming it and so she couldn't be on the
- 56:25show anymore and like yeah I know that sucks and it
- 56:29but I feel like if you know that then I
- 56:33don't know yeah it's it's a weird
- 56:38one and the ending to be honest I mean how the [ __ ] could they have ended this
- 56:42I think they did pretty well considering exactly what would have been satisfying
- 56:46for everyone how do you end a show that you were making up as you went along
- 56:49they did all right that's right yeah yeah no they did fine it's like when you
- 56:55sit down as a not that I would know but you know you make up there story as you
- 57:00go for child kind of thing that's that's what L and you just hope they fall
- 57:03asleep before you get to the end yeah and then whatever whatever they get
- 57:06excited about exactly hopefully they W
- 57:09go yeah yeah yeah yeah oh a penguin yes this is now the story of a penguin yeah
- 57:16what happened to the princess okay we'll go back to that now oh yeah that's right
- 57:20if that's what you care about sure and then and then the next day when they ask
- 57:24about the uh the Frog you deci that wasn't important yeah that's right don't worry
- 57:30about it frog uh we've got some
- 57:36followup uh yeah on we got some fortnite
- 57:39followup oh sure uh we uh I mean I only
- 57:43just found out what fortnite was so all fortnite news is followup news to me
- 57:48yeah this article caught my eye just basically because of that because you
- 57:51and I you know were a little light on the fortnite knowledge however this guy
- 57:56in this article here uh he's a fortnite
- 57:59coach and uh I love this scroll down it's got a photo of him there uh Hugh
- 58:06take a look at this is this guy fortnite coach he's coached multi-million dollar
- 58:11professional oh [ __ ] sake he's 16y old
- 58:15uh I think oh no Hugh is not 16 he's 19 but the he's trained a bunch of 16 year
- 58:20olds who've gone on to win millions of dollars in fortnite
- 58:23tournaments yep okay uh
- 58:28little kid he's a fortnite coach uh he did not he did not get any money out of
- 58:33this uh he's just happy to do it oh what he this is not a business he runs no no
- 58:40he does he charges uh 120s for lessons he'll teach you how to
- 58:45play fortnite for £1 120 a lesson I think 120 a lesson is a [ __ ] decent
- 58:50bit of money mate M listeners if you want to [ __ ] get good at [ __ ]
- 58:56Fallout 3 you give me a call it just the my favorite thing about this article is
- 59:01Hugh Gilmore's top five fortnite tips right and then just yeah bearing in mind
- 59:06this is a video game and I know video games are different these days but I
- 59:09grew up when a video game was not a a was considered not a worthwhile Pursuit
- 59:15right so yes correct with that context in mind these are Hugh Gilmore's top five fortnite
- 59:22tips number one mhm master your early landing and Route no when fights will
- 59:26take place and how you will have an advantage in them tip number two
- 59:30practice your mechanics as a warm-up every day aiming editing and building
- 59:36drills number three wow drills have a dedicated practice schedule set amounts
- 59:41of time that you can do every day for noticeable results box fights the yep step four box
- 59:48fights the most crucial part of this game is being able to fight while box to
- 59:51box next to another player whatever the [ __ ] that means what that means practice
- 59:56these in creative mode against a friend and learn new strategies and then number five use
- 1:00:02video on demand to watch your own games back and evaluate why you died and why I
- 1:00:08know it's like a golf player now yeah especially the sequence before also very
- 1:00:12useful is watching live streams of other professionals and I know I'm being
- 1:00:17cynical because this is that's literally how it is these days but just to read a
- 1:00:20video game I know taken this seriously
- 1:00:24blows my mind practice every day man these guys are these guys are making
- 1:00:29serious money off of it in a video game aiming drills you got
- 1:00:35to practice your aiming like I practiced my aiming in Fallout in uh Far Cry 5 by
- 1:00:40playing the game yeah oh we'll get back to that in a sec but you look the fact
- 1:00:46that you can get a coach for this is is certainly a new phenomenon but I
- 1:00:48remember back in the day of the Super Nintendo if you used to read Super
- 1:00:53Nintendo magazine there was a hotline you could call if you ever got stuck in
- 1:00:57a game yes did you you remember that did you ever call the hotline no I used to
- 1:01:02get those do you remember the books you could buy that had uh there were the
- 1:01:05hint books and they had the Little Red film that you could reveal the like so
- 1:01:10it was written with a absolutely I don't know how to describe this I had
- 1:01:14Castlevania 2 Simon quest one of those so the the the the text was obscured by
- 1:01:20like a an image and to read the text in case you didn't want to spoil yourself
- 1:01:24you had to put this red cellophane over the top and it would film over it yeah
- 1:01:28so it would reveal the text so uh any listeners under the age of [ __ ] 35
- 1:01:35talking about yeah exactly but I
- 1:01:39had side of that yeah oh yeah y um we I
- 1:01:45can't remember what game it was I can't no I can't remember but we we rang once
- 1:01:50and and this is in an era too arguably where video games were less complicated
- 1:01:56than they are now like maybe a game like fortnite not that I've played it needs
- 1:02:00strategies and needs you know drills but we called up for something lord of the
- 1:02:06sword or [ __ ] aled beast or something and basically the expert on the other
- 1:02:11end of this hotline was like just keep trying until you get through like that
- 1:02:16was their advice either that or if you know in the case of a game like zorc or
- 1:02:21you know the old police Quest games it's just literally look at what verb [ __ ]
- 1:02:25noun combination do I need to progress past you already know what to do you
- 1:02:30just don't know what exact phrasing you have to use yeah exactly type make sure
- 1:02:37you pick up the pen microphone before you enter the base at the end of [ __ ]
- 1:02:42need it because you cannot go back for it that's a police Quest reference if
- 1:02:46anyone knows certainly is yeah yeah and we all know the frustration of getting
- 1:02:50into that guy [ __ ] penous and not having the pen to record him on and it
- 1:02:55just like oh you should have done that like half the [ __ ] game you [ __ ]
- 1:02:59you played so many hands of poker a game that you are too young to understand how
- 1:03:06to actually win at and you can no longer finish the game yeah bastard I uh I
- 1:03:11played through um on the scum VM the uh Indiana Jones in the Last Crusade
- 1:03:18Adventure game recently yeah um very very good game but um the ending is
- 1:03:23[ __ ] nonsensical and if anyone got it without an FAQ back in
- 1:03:29the day uh my hat is off to you because like I just like when I read what you
- 1:03:36had to do I was like oh okay that's fine cuz I would have never ever done that in
- 1:03:40a million [ __ ] years have we talked about uh I think Last Crusade might be
- 1:03:44one of the first game does it when they first started making those adventure
- 1:03:48games like Maniac mansion in particular um yeah Ron Gilbert uh who who who was
- 1:03:54the designer of of both of I um yeah he was at least the writer of of
- 1:04:00Indie I don't know if he necessarily designed it but yeah he was certainly
- 1:04:04well when they did Maniac Mansion there was situations where you could get stuck
- 1:04:09basically yeah you just couldn't finish the game yeah and so he came up with uh
- 1:04:13you can look this up on his website actually he they're called puzzle
- 1:04:16dependency charts which is this system that he developed that they he uses for
- 1:04:20every game from now on even like death spank which is a game he did more
- 1:04:22recently on Xbox uh which is more of a role playing game he uses these puzzle
- 1:04:27dependency charts which it's basically a flow chart right that yeah ensures that
- 1:04:32you can't ever get stuck because and I'm not going to go into the details of it
- 1:04:37but he's got an article on his site about how it works and it's just so
- 1:04:41simple but so like necessary and I think I think maybe Last Crusade was the first
- 1:04:47game to use them but like definitely Monkey Island those games use it and
- 1:04:50that's why in in the Lucas Arts games you never got stuck in a way that you
- 1:04:56couldn't finish the game you might get stuck at a puzzle um yeah and you might
- 1:05:01you might not get as many points for one ending as you would for another ending
- 1:05:05but right but then with the you know some of the Sierra games they they
- 1:05:10weren't doing that and so you could literally just get stuck yeah basically and the Sierra
- 1:05:16games got better as time went on too but like the original um police Quest and
- 1:05:20king's quest and space Quest like you could not know why you can't finish the
- 1:05:24game but you can't right because you don't have the piece of glass from the
- 1:05:27crash spaceship to get past the laser in space you also don't know and there's no
- 1:05:31internet to tell you this so you don't know that you're trying in vain to
- 1:05:36finish the game also I just it's I I have these [ __ ]
- 1:05:41examples in my head of of when this happened like that that's an actual
- 1:05:46example from space Quest that uh I am aware of because I got it wrong and I'm
- 1:05:51I will never forget that because I was like [ __ ] you exactly you would exactly
- 1:05:56exactly should not be impossible to go back and get that piece of glass yeah
- 1:06:02that's right no which is why they fixed it up by at a certain point even in the
- 1:06:06king's quest and the seea games like that too but Maniac Mansion is notorious
- 1:06:10for that there's several instances in the game that if you don't do something
- 1:06:14in the right order you just cannot win and you don't know that you can't so
- 1:06:19you'll just keep trying oh and Zack McCracken too I think yeah another great
- 1:06:23game mind you I look I I love retro games everyone knows this and I I play I
- 1:06:29play a lot and I I kind of troll the abandoned we sites for games that I've
- 1:06:33forgotten about or or never gotten around to playing but I'll say this
- 1:06:37there's a reason the ones we remember fondly are the ones we remember fondly
- 1:06:41and the ones that we have forgotten about have forgotten well here but
- 1:06:46before we go I want to put out a an ask to the listeners and this is a this is a
- 1:06:50obscure ask and I'm not I'm not really I don't think I'm ever going to get an
- 1:06:54answer to this cuz I've actually been looking for a game it's a game that I
- 1:06:59used to play on my Commodore 64 so that already that already a bit of a barrier
- 1:07:04because you have to have had a com 64 there is a game yeah where uh you fly a
- 1:07:11spaceship kind of like Defender left to right around the world uh and then you
- 1:07:15do fight alien ships and stuff but also part of it is you have to pick up and
- 1:07:22rescue uh people on the ground right but before you can do that you have to kill
- 1:07:26enough enemies that you can save up and buy a tractor beam to pick up the people
- 1:07:30on the ground right and rescue them and then uh and then the specifics become a
- 1:07:35bit blurry after that but at some point the game moves off into space and then
- 1:07:40you fly and you have to destroy I believe a giant laser on a planet
- 1:07:45somewhere okay and it's I mean it sounds great I don't know what the name of this
- 1:07:50game is I always thought it was called Space Ace but I cannot find a game like
- 1:07:56I can find games called space a but they're not this game right yeah so
- 1:08:01listeners if you have any [ __ ] idea what this game is I just really want to
- 1:08:06find a copy of it to play on an emulator or something and just just CU I really
- 1:08:11fun couple of listeners who who might know that so please do write in podcast
- 1:08:15at multiple.com if you just send suggestions I've got here I'm looking at
- 1:08:20it on my shelf I've got uh a number of commod 64 books that cover ranges of
- 1:08:26games uh it's not in any of them as far as I can tell I've got uh there's
- 1:08:31websites that catalog all of the games I've I've looked under space right and I
- 1:08:36can't find it so that but that doesn't mean it's not called something else I
- 1:08:40just yeah yeah just don't remember podcast at multip gm.com MGM on Twitter multip on
- 1:08:46Facebook help me you're my only hope really quickly before we go and before
- 1:08:52we get off games and we can leave the discussion till next week yeah but
- 1:08:57uh I picked up Far Cry 5 yes and I'm [ __ ] loving it yeah excellent It's
- 1:09:04good right it's all I'll say for now it's all I'll say for now um but I
- 1:09:08[ __ ] love shooting [ __ ] religious
- 1:09:12zealots it's a good game too yeah yeah that's all for this week thank you for
- 1:09:18listening and we hope you enjoyed the show if you enjoyed it then please
- 1:09:23subscribe and item to see episodes
- 1:09:27automatically we'll see you next time
