- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here and it is Friday.
- 0:15Well done, Happy Friday to you. It's the 7th of March and you've
- 0:19made it to the end of the week. And to celebrate the end of the
- 0:22week, not only am I going to give you 2 days off, unless of
- 0:27course you have to work on the weekend, in which case this is
- 0:29very awkward and I'm sorry, but we are also going to celebrate
- 0:33with a proverb or six or seven, as the case may be today.
- 0:38Today we're going to read the final proverbs in chapter 10.
- 0:41And then we will slowly continue to work our way through these
- 0:45treasure troves of God's wisdom captured in these pithy little
- 0:50proverbs and delivered to you and to me to make us better at
- 0:55living this thing called life. So let us dive into the Proverbs
- 1:001 by 1 and enjoy them together, friends, as we read Proverbs
- 1:04chapter 10, verses 26 to 32. Lazy people irritate their
- 1:20employers like vinegar to the teeth or smoke in the eyes.
- 1:27Fear of the Lord lengthens one's life, but the years of the
- 1:32wicked are cut short. The hopes of the godly result in
- 1:39happiness, but the expectations of the wicked come to nothing.
- 1:47The way of the Lord is a stronghold to those with
- 1:50integrity, but it destroys the wicked.
- 1:56The godly will never be disturbed, but the wicked will
- 2:00be removed from the land. The mouth of the godly person
- 2:06gives wise advice, but the tongue that deceives will be cut
- 2:11off. The lips of the godly speak
- 2:16helpful words, but the mouth of the wicked speaks perverse
- 2:21words. Oh Lord, so much wisdom in these
- 2:34proverbs. Lord, here in verse 28 you tell
- 2:39us that the hopes of the godly result in happiness, but the
- 2:44expectations of the wicked come to nothing.
- 2:48Lord help our hopes rest in you and that as we hope in you.
- 2:55Lord, we hope in something beyond ourselves.
- 2:59And if our hopes truly rest in you, then more often than not we
- 3:04hope for something beyond our own goodness, our own reward,
- 3:09our own ease of life, and that we hope for your Kingdom.
- 3:14And Lord, it's, it's in hoping in you and what you bring that
- 3:19truly happiness lies there. And that when we hear of the
- 3:25expectations of the wicked coming to nothing, Lord, these
- 3:28wicked expectations invariably like us when we plot and scheme
- 3:35for our own well being at the expense or at the exclusion of
- 3:38others. So, Lord, continue to shape our
- 3:42hearts by the persistent and good work of Your Spirit so that
- 3:47our hope can be in You and Your love, not just for us, but for
- 3:52all of us, and that we can look beyond our own hopes and dreams
- 3:57to yours. And then Jesus tells us that
- 4:01when we focus on your Kingdom, you look after our needs.
- 4:05You are a good, good God, and we place you first, and we love
- 4:09you. And we pray all of this in that
- 4:11saving name of Jesus in whom all our hope is found.
- 4:17Amen.
