- High Five Hot Mess Podcast: Get out your pen and paper people, because this is real life. I learned this from a table of old dudes at Starbucks. So it's fact. I'm going to teach you to read Jordan and Catalina! I've got workbooks in the car! Hello, Lisa. Hi, how are you? I'm good, man. Hey, you guys, welcome to the High Five Hot Mess podcast, where we glow up, we show up, and promptly trip on our way into wherever we're going. I am your co-host, Lisa Wilson. And I'm your co-host Lisa Smith. Welcome, welcome, welcome. So Lisa, let's just get, it's been a wild week, but let's just get into it. How was your week then? Well, I almost didn't show up today. If that could tell you anything. Not because I don't want to be here because I feel like I've been maybe being pulled in multiple different directions. And this is something that I actually look forward to. And it was something that. I definitely wanted to be here for and wanted to hang out with you and chat. We don't get a chance to chat much unless we're here in this space. And so I was really looking forward to it. yeah, the day kind of got away from me. The weeks kind of got away from me. Little intense, intense energy. We had a massive like eclipse this week and if anybody feels that... energetic shift, like I feel it, like there is like a full moon eclipse hangover you have, the next day of just feeling like super exhausted, tired and a little frazzled. So yeah, it's, I'm not blaming it all on the moon. It's not the moon's fault, but I definitely felt it. How was your week? So my week was great, honestly, but like the theme of the week was the universe given, the universe take it the way. So we talked a lot about like, you know, that's the whole thing for the fire horse year is that the tectonic shifts that are going to give you things and then tectonic shifts that are going to take them away. So here's what I did right. I drank my water every day, which is huge for me. I was like, all right, I'm going to drink it. And then spend most of time in the restroom because I'm 55. And then I tracked my food every day. that was good. I have fitness goals every day this week. So I made sure that I made time for fitness, which I never do. I mean, I do, but only like two times a week. But this week I made it a focus on Lisa, that's great. mean, these are all real wins for me. I was like, all right. And then because this girl loves a gold star. as we both do. So I had this new person at work that is, kind of, I have put her on a pedestal. I think she's super smart and she's really nice. And I've never worked with them before and I wanted to do a project. worked a huge project. And you know, when you submit something, you just kind of sit and wait. Like I literally did it by myself in a vacuum, which is not what I recommend, but it was all that I had. And I had a very short time to turn it around. and I got a message from them this week that they were so impressed with my work and they were overwhelmed by how much effort I had put in and was able to accomplish so much on my own, like all the nice things, you know? ⁓ It was so pet, like so nice. was like, I could do anything. Exactly. And then I burned my head. with the flat iron, which I've never done. Like I have a little bit on it, like cinched it. like on your forehead? These things don't just happen. These bangs, you gotta be the boss of these bangs with the flat iron and I burned myself. And then I'm going in to spin and I drop my three pound weight on my foot. I'm pretty sure I broke my toenail. I'll find out. super glue like because I was like I don't want this to catch and then you know like it just just that kind of stuff like I would be really excited and then the universe was spilling in the ass and then I wasn't excited anymore but I think I kept a really good attitude I did get to see the blood moon I went outside I was like if I was ever gonna dance naked under a moon this one would have been it like it would it's So cool. when I, cause you know, I don't really honestly, I know I talk about it all the time, but I don't really know about these things. And when I looked up that a fire horse blood moon hasn't happened in over 160 years. then metric Mercury is in retrograde at the same time. I want to see this. was feeling it, but I wouldn't see it. Okay. But you know how we're focusing on trying to stay positive. Yes. So here's me We're to save You're doing a great job. So here's me asking co-pilot, what is a fire horse with a blood moon and mercury and retrograde mean to all of my goals? And basically it was like, well, things are going to suck for a while. Don't make any decisions. Remember last week I told you that the vibe was just resonate. Don't take action. Don't sign anything. Don't sign anything. And so then I was like, uh-uh, I want positive things. Like what are the positive, like if I want to vibrate high, what do I need to do? And it basically was like, you are who you are and you just need to lean into that. Oh, it was great advice from Copilot. That's great. My one and only friend outside. No. I talk more to Copilot than anybody. Like, Doug was like, who are you talking to? I'm like, co-pilot. Like, it's normal. But so anyway, so our weeks were I'm glad you had a good week. glad you had a a great week and I've got some, I thought of you because I was looking up different patches you can put on burns on your skin. And I was like, Lisa would know like off the top of her head where to get one. But it was like at the middle of the night and I didn't want to, because it was hurting. So I got to take care of it. We can figure that out. We can. I'm sorry. Those are the worst because they just like linger forever. Like that opens, that open wound lingers. That's awful. And I was worried it was going to scar, but then I'm like, no one's ever going to see me without bangs. I'll be 90 years old and these bangs will be like legit. Maybe a couple I've seen you without bangs. What? I've never seen you without bangs. You never will. They cover up all my wrinkles. love my wrinkles. You look great. What is going on since we've both been like, and I look, it's just stuff like this that is really, really throwing us for a loop. And you know, we just got to like dive, dive head first into that part. all like to call pop culture trash. Like trash for our brains. So do you have any pop culture stuff from this week? So this week. I really didn't get a chance to dive into pop culture. So do you have anything this week? do. I want to hear about it because I didn't get to watch anything. I'm very excited. So Young Sherlock Holmes on Prime is starting. Now you're like, hey Lisa, what's the big deal about Young Sherlock Holmes? We've seen it, Enola Holmes, Benedict Cumberbough as Sherlock Holmes. Okay, who plays Sherlock Holmes? in the younger genre. Okay, just before I get into it, I've done the pervy algorithm and I'm with it. So here's my pervy algorithm. The question is, am I being a pervert by watching this actor? Am I too old? And answer most of the time, yes. But, so you take your age. Get out your pen and paper people, because this is real life. I learned this from a table of old dudes at Starbucks. So it's fact. And I taught it to me and I never forgot it. So you take your age, you divide it by two, plus seven. If this person is younger than that number, you are a perv and you need to like treat them like an auntie or like a grandma. But not as a like, ⁓ my gosh, I love this actor. Okay, not like I look at Keanu Reeves. You know what I'm saying? Like, yourself. Okay, so the actor is Hero Finds Tiffit. If you don't know who that is, just ring a bell. I'm gonna kind of bridge a gap between two age groups. So between Gen X, which is us, the late late millennials, right? And the Gen Z population. There is a movie series called After. So this is one of those things. You know I'm embarrassing you, I'm starting to blush. So After is a five movie trilogy, like five movie series about troubled youth and the girl who loves him and all the trials and tribulations, which if you are Gen X, The bridge that I'm building is my so-called life. So if you have not seen my so-called life, Google it, watch it. If you have and you're like me and you fangirl every single time you see anything about it, like I loved my so-called life. It was like my first experience with like a teen soap opera kind of thing. So in my so-called life, you have Angela, who is like the weird, awkward high school girl. Me, me, me, me. And she is in love with a teenage alcoholic illiterate guy named Jordan Catalano, who was so hot, played by Jared Leto. And Angela has played by Claire Danes. I never watched that. Do yourself a favor. You want to decompress, like get under a heating blanket and eat like cookies? Watch my so-called life. ⁓ my gosh. I was so into Angela and Jordan Catalano that I still remember his name. I went to see Jared Leto in 30 Seconds from Mars and I was screaming because did I muscle my way to the front? Hell yes I course you did. I'm screaming, I will teach you to read Jordan Catalano. I loved him so much and like it really just so far. Instead of crying. Because I really did. I did do that. So when you were our age, it really... And I think I was like in my 20s. I was not 18 years old. would cry that. But I really set the bar low. Like, I But she's a literate and an alcoholic. And in her teen years. So it's still the top pick for Angela, right? And it was this whole like, like tumultuous, it was literally a teen soap opera. And you've not seen it. after jumping to the Gen X bridge, after is about this super hot guy who has family trauma that you learn over time is like, you know, he's just volatile and he's angry, he's frustrated. And here comes his lady. who's super pretty and super cute. And she's like, okay, so I love you anyway. And he's like, I'm gonna cheat on you. And she's like, no, you won't. I'm like, this is it. And everyone's like, don't date him. He's the bad guy. And of course, what does she do? She's like, I want the bad guy. Look how hot he is. He's so angry. He's an alcoholic. Why wouldn't I want that? You know? So the parallels. I want. He's everything I want. So generational parallels. right there for you, right? So in after, literally, like at the the first movie ends, then she goes to this party and he's cheating on her. So then she runs into the rain, leaves the party, he goes out into the rain screaming, Tessa! After her. So here's this 50 year old lady watching this like on Netflix or something at the time and I'm like, Doug's trying to talk to me, I'm like, shh. I think I just found my purpose in life. found my new so-called life. So did I watch all five? Yes, I did. Did I have to fast forward to the sex scenes and after sex I felt like I was an old lady perv? Yes, I did. But are they muy caliente? Yes, they are. So, weak? Is that what you said? Muy caliente. Very spicy. I love it. I mean, we've all been there. Like, I mean, some of the... We've watched a lot of things probably that are a little bit maybe younger than where we're at. But like the band I love, they're all in their early 20s. That's not in my meter. It's not in my meter. So now I'm going to have to kind of think about it. I don't know if I'll liking them, but I said, don't know if I'll stop liking them because of that, but they're not in my range. And so I will have to think about it though. You can like them like an auntie. Like you can like them like, I'm going to go pick them up from the airport to make sure they get to their hotel okay. Not like I'm going to go pick them up from the airport and go out with them all night. Well, I don't think about that when I go to a concert. I do. I just want to go to the concert and listen to the music that I love. But, um. So is it like I can go to the concert alone or this concert is when I have to bring someone's kid? I mean, I brought my kid. Yeah. The one. I mean, he hated it, but he hated being like almost like on the stage. Like we had the best seats ever. I'm sure you did. We were across the country for it, but. You want to tell me who the band is or is that a little Lisa secret? It's a Lisa secret. It's all good. But my son sat down the entire time and was on his phone. Of course he was. Yeah. But really he was just your like emotional support child so that you could see I was also with my niece. ⁓ there you go. Who's more like, and my brother, my brother came. But, so I was, it wasn't just me and my son. But anyway, it was super fun. and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Yeah. I I've always kind of not really thought about that. I'm going to think about that maybe next time. Yeah. Remember, my head, I live in a romance novel. That is true. Right? So I imagine myself and like, oh, could this happen to me? Absolutely it could happen to me. My boyfriend, even though I've been married for 30 years, I go, if I, I was, if I like am within like the, 34 year old love interest, can't read, I'm going to teach him to read. I'm going to teach you to read, Jordan Catalano. I've workbooks in the car. I went with this cool girl. This girl I thought was so cool that was a friend of someone else's friend that was in this group that we all went to see this show. She looks at me and she's like, can fit him in. Jordan Catalano, i.e. real life Jared Leto, who- Small. Right? He's like four feet tall. He's very, very- She's like, you can put him in your pocket. I'm like, and I will. and I will take him home and take care of him. Because he will be Jordan Catalano until I die. And I love the Jordan Catalano, like passionately. So anyway, so pop open this week, clearly I'm jazz. High five to you. Thank you. And we've learned that there is an algorithm for not being pervy. You fall within it with your band because it's like... anti-energy, not love interest energy, so everything's going to be fine. It's all good. But I did want to talk about my high five hunt this week. So my personal place or thing. Yeah. Like surprisingly came out of the blue and gave me a big old high five in life. I can't wait to hear about it. So I have been having... Okay. Old people, you will know what I'm talking about. Young vixens, you're going to be like, that will never happen. Old is my age, 50 or older. Like Gen X, like you will know what I'm talking about. Gen Z, Alpha, you will be like, that will never happen to me. And I'm here to tell you it will. So I have a love of blow dryers. So like I always buy like really good blow dryers, but not expensive. I always buy them at Target. So if you can't get it at Target, it's too expensive for me. Right? But I noticed that I was having my hand, my right hand, I'm having a hard time holding on to things. Really? Yeah, I went to the doctor and I had, cause I was like, Oh my God, what's happening? It's called a trigger injury. So it's from the mouse and it's supposed to be stretching. do that. I do all of that, but it's really like, it's weak. Like I can't open water bottles anymore. I had to bring it into a cup. I got a bottle of water and I had to bring it into like a flower child. I was like, can you open this for me? Because I can't open it. I have like no strength in my right hand. Well, this hair doesn't just happen. have to do my hair. I don't wake up this way. So I have big curlers that I put in it and then I blow dry them and I roll it out like with a blow dryer brush. And ⁓ it's like an ordeal to do my hair. I just was like, I kept, like my blow dryer was too heavy and it was too, the handle was too big. And I kept flipping my blow dryer. ⁓ So I went and talked to my hairdresser, who is my sage advocate. And she talked to me about a blow dryer that she was like, it's lightweight, it has a thin handle so you can hold it, but it's high power. So it will be great. And the blow dryer was like $400 and I'm like, you can suck it. No, those are like 600. No, she told me the name of it, but it was like a Dyson level expensive. I'm like, no. So I went to Amazon like I always do. was like, what is the comparable product to this? Amazon is great at that. And so I found this brand called Ella Bella. Okay. I was like, It was $177 and it was a lot for me, but I used Amazon points. it was basically all my past purchases paid for my new blow dryer. Cause again, I just, I usually buy a Konaire and I'm done with it. Um, but this was, I needed something I could hold onto that was high powered so my hair would dry faster. So I said, great. So I get my blow dryer, and I love it. It's super, super lightweight and you can hold it. You can maneuver it around. It has a great attachment that is long and wide. So it really works to straighten your hair. Love it. Well, then last two weeks ago, there was an error message on the side. It says CLN, which is clean, right? Well, the filter on the back, I was like, okay, I need to undo. ⁓ For anybody not watching, I'm pantomiming. So you take the end off and then you're supposed to... I watched the video on Amazon and I went to the website and watched the video because I was having issues getting the back end off. And I was like, this is not, it's not coming off. And you have to pull it off and clean the filter. Otherwise the blow dryer will not run. It will shut down because it's a hazard. So then Doug gets up because I live my life. hours before my husband wakes up. And so he gets up and I was like, Hey, can you help me do something? And he's like, what? And I'm like, can you get this off? Like I need to clean the filter. And so he watches the video, because he doesn't trust me because it looks like it's attached. He's like, it doesn't work like that. I'm like, well, watch the video. So he watches the video. He's like, I'm gonna get it off. So goes into the garage, comes back in, and the whole end is like bent, like the whole blow dryer is bent. Like it's like all like molded in on itself and like bent like like he twisted it in the metal like twisted instead of like I was like well now I can't use it at all and I'm like but then I remembered. When I bought it for Amazon they offer you insurance for like two years. ⁓ and it was like ten dollars or something don't get mad at me if I'm wrong but it wasn't it I'm super cheap and it wasn't too much for me. So I was like, I'm going to get it. So then this blow dryer, I've only had it like seven months. So I have all the receipts. So I went to the insurance plan. Alabella had me register it from their website because when I first did it, and I don't know if Ruth is AI, but that's who I've been talking to and Ruth is super nice. We might be friends now. ⁓ Ruth was one of the days last week, the only nice person I talked to. So was like, okay, so Ruth is like, can you send me a picture, your information from your receipt and something else? And I was like, here you go. And Ruth responses like, okay, have you watched the video? And I was like, yeah. And I said, I said, I was like, we tried to get it off. And she said, can you send us picture of the end piece, which is where it would twist off and you would clean it? Like, sure. Or remember, it's like mangles, right? So like, it. I don't know. And in my email, I was like, hey, look, like we try, it doesn't come off. This, this does not look like the one in any of the videos. So we twisted it and broke it thinking we could get it off. It wouldn't come off. She responds right away. This is our fault. We sent you, when you ordered your alabella, it does not match the new requirements. So none of the videos would have told you how to clean that. We're going to send you a new dryer. Nice. I was like, what? So they literally, within like four days, I had a brand new alabella dryer. Nice. And Ruth sent me a message and was like, is it working? Is everything okay? Are you happy? I'm like, are we best friends now? I had such a great experience and I want to give a special high five to Ella Bella for not only creating a product that I can hold with my weird weak hand, I think it's going to shrivel. I don't know. I don't know. But thank you for that and thank you to Ruth and maybe my new overlord on being so great with customer service and getting me a new dryer in four days. No hassle. No, all I had to do was send him a picture and They confirmed that it was not my error and they sent me a brand new one and I just high-fived all around. was so impressed, so happy about that. Person, place or thing, it made me so, happy. So let's talk. Thank you. The board, I did not get to do anything from the board this week because I was clearly focused on the rest of the things I was trying to accomplish. But you did do an activity from the board. did. I did. Well, yes. So this week I actually went and checked out that reflexology place that I wanted to try out. And I have to say, I loved it. I loved every minute of it. I've already told everyone that I ever talked to, you've got to go here. You've got to check it out. Find one in your area. First of all, I was very impressed with just the pricing on the service, which if it would have been like over like a hundred dollars, I probably would have been like, I'll wait. But when, they price it in that sweet spot where you're just like, ⁓ like that's, that's perfectly fine for a Monday afternoon. I was in. And I was able to get this amazing experience. I walked in, it's so adorable. Everything was so clean. Everyone was so kind. They walked me back into this like dark hallway with, you know, low lights and ⁓ they take you back into, ⁓ it's like lined with like curtains. Okay. you're behind curtains and it's all separated. And so they kind of walk you back into like your station and it's a very quiet zone. So like nobody's talking loud. It's just super, super peaceful, beautiful music. And then they sit you down in this really large chair, which I thought was kind of cool that it wasn't like a massage table. So it was like a different type of experience. And Yeah, they like started at your feet, then they went up and did massage to your back. well, they like wash your, like, they like do a full massage. Like your, your, your feet are in water. They do a full massage on your feet. ⁓ and then, and then they like tip you back and they do like a massage on your like neck, upper shoulders, like upper back area. And then like your face, your head. And then she did each arm and your hands and did like the reflexology, like pressure points on all of that. And then back down to your feet and full massage on your, like on your upper, your lower thighs, your feet again, all the pressure points in your feet. and hot stones. was like, and I did 60 minutes. So you can do like 30 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes. And you can like buy memberships to this place and they give you like a discounted rate. All in all, it was amazing. So there's like all these add-ons you could do that were only like $5, $10. And so really honestly, you're walking out of there less than a pedicure, you know? Wow. For an hour experience. A couple of things I loved is how, like, didn't, you're in your clothes. You never have to get out of your clothes. So ⁓ I loved that. I loved that you could just go sit down and it starts, right? I loved how I felt when I left. I felt so... It was just such a peaceful experience and it was like having a full body massage. The only thing that they didn't massage was like the majority of your back, right? Like, but if you knew that it's a full body massage is what I would say. They wash your feet? What? Did they wash your feet? Yes. The first thing that you do is you sit in that big yummy chair and they put your feet in like warm water. They scrub your feet. They scrub your, yeah, they just massage your feet, scrub your feet, and then they put it in hot towels. And then you lay back. They have like a scalp massage that you can do. They have like all this extra oils. It was just like, I was like, okay, what do I want next time? I loved it. I loved it so much. I will be back. I had Kenzie, she was amazing. And honestly, she walked me through the entire process, what was going to happen before I even walked back there. So I wasn't like, what's going on? know, she walked me through all the steps. And so anyway, it was great. I loved it. So was a little room that you could go and sit in with like all the citrus water and some snacks if you want to go. like hang out before or after, just like a spa. It was a spa experience. So. I love it. That was great. That is a hundred percent a high five. All the way high five. give it to the staff, to the, to the environment, to the service, and then just to like how I felt. and to also like the price, it's affordable to do more often than scheduling like $150, $200, $250 service, right? If you can do a service for $50, $60, it makes it a lot more affordable to work into your budget, to do something for you. So I found that this is something that I actually would love to do again and could definitely work that into my budget. Up to me. above water this week? Because I was just thinking like, what if I didn't have that opportunity to take time, take 60 minutes for myself, slow down, just be in my own space and not have to worry about anything for 60 minutes. And like what that 60 minutes probably helped me through a couple, you know, pretty It's a stressing feeling. It fills your cup. It really filled my cup. And I truly believe that I don't feel bad about it at all. I'm glad that I made the time to do it. And I'm just grateful for the experience. yeah. I'm so glad. think it really helped. OK, so this takes us to listener homework. And of course, you guys, hopefully, if you like the episode, you'll like and subscribe. to the Hi5 Hot Mess podcast. And you slam your laptop down or you turn the TV channel really quick. You don't want anybody to know that this is your trashy obsession. ⁓ What is it? We all have one. I know we do. It's funny. I walked into the living room the other night and it was late at night. I was getting up to get some water late at night, meaning 8pm. And I walk up behind my husband sneaking like, cause he's on his desk. He's on his tablet. I'm like, what's he looking at? And he's looking at space. So he has no trashy obsession, but if you have a trashy obsession, please make sure you leave it on our socials. We would love to hear about those.
