- 0:27Mazel tov cocktail. Yeah.
- 0:31Oof, that's how. Is that how we're?
- 0:32Starting this, maybe not Golly, clip that.
- 0:40Oh, it's, it's been, it's been flipped.
- 0:42Oh my God. My my lips are mazel tov
- 0:46cocktail fire red right now from the wind hitting them.
- 0:49Bit dry, bit dry out there. Oh, is it cold?
- 0:53Yeah, dude, is it cold? I'm What do you mean?
- 0:56You go outside. I got home at like 4 and haven't
- 1:02been outside. It's 47.
- 1:03That's not that cold. It's.
- 1:06Pretty cold. It's pretty cold, especially
- 1:07because it came out of nowhere. Yeah, ain't that great either,
- 1:11buddy. It's the end of October.
- 1:15Listen, Connor, you know I'm. Sorry, I'm sorry, I'm making too
- 1:18much sense. All of this better not rain on
- 1:21Halloween. No matter how many frigid cold
- 1:24Midwestern winters we endure, it always is like a surprise when
- 1:28it comes around. Gotcha.
- 1:30I'm always going to be, no matter how long I live here, I'm

- 2:42row. I think I've nailed it.
- 2:44Hell, I think you've nailed it too.
- 2:46There you go, Noah's. Put some structure on you, boy.
- 2:49Are you, are you reading the thing that I wrote?
- 2:52I've read it like 1000 times while.
- 2:55Well, I can work. Well, like in between shit, I'm
- 3:00like, all right, all right, I get it, I get it.
- 3:02I Oh wow, dude. You're really, you know, it's
- 3:03just a baseline. You don't have to read it
- 3:05verbatim, but it's a no, you know, I get structure.
- 3:09Just trying to get your get a little bit of a little bit of
- 3:12structure going here. We got we got to get to the meat
- 3:14of the show, you know, I mean, but like, we're playing with
- 3:17fire when I'm just sitting there stumbling through shit.
- 3:20Yeah. We're going to do it.
- 3:21We're going to do it. No more stumbling, no more
- 3:23bumbling. Let's get right into it, boys.
- 3:25Halloween is when this episode drops.
- 3:27So I figured let's talk about some spooky scary games for the
- 3:30next half hour. You guys game for that.
- 3:33Cool. Sick.
- 3:35I want, I just want to kind of like pick your brains because
- 3:37Conrad, I know we've had you on the show, what, once or twice?
- 3:40I think so, yeah. Once or twice.
- 3:42Noah's now pretty much a fucking regular because he hosts the
- 3:45other show. But last year it was just me and
- 3:48Evan. The year prior was me and Brody,
- 3:50and the year before that I think was me and Alex.
- 3:52So we're kind of starting to like do like a bit of a rotating
- 3:54Halloween thing. So with that being said, I
- 3:57really want to start with Connor because Connor doesn't really
- 4:00happen on the show as much. For gaming in general, what
- 4:05makes a game scary for you in my like, in your opinion?
- 4:09Like what makes it scary? The interaction with the player
- 4:14and then also the the audio. I'm a big audio guy, so the
- 4:21directional audio, little sounds that everybody may not be able
- 4:26to pick up. But those who are looking for
- 4:28those sounds, if they hear it, they get excited.
- 4:31But also like what's about to happen.
- 4:35There's stuff that really tricks or plays around with the player.
- 4:39Yeah, there is one game that comes to mind with that.
- 4:43It's Vigil. That was so it was a like a 30
- 4:48minute demo that was on Steam and it had pretty good
- 4:55directional audio, but it was the one where the game could see
- 5:01through the camera whenever you blinked.
- 5:04Oh, I worked this one. I forgot.
- 5:06I totally forgot what it was called.
- 5:08Oh, it was great. It was.
- 5:11That is hands down the most unique aspect that I've ever
- 5:16heard of in a game. Yeah, and the the monster, it
- 5:20would only move whenever, like you wouldn't be looking at it or
- 5:23if you blinked, kind of like the Weeping Angels from Doctor Who.
- 5:28It it was real cool. It was really cool.
- 5:33I want more games to do stuff like that where it's more like
- 5:36physically interactive. Well, not physically
- 5:39interactive, but you know. Game punches you in the fucking.
- 5:43Face, right, Right. You have to have like a haptic
- 5:46face mask and just walk into work with a black guy.
- 5:49What happened? I got me you 2.
- 5:53Or we can get a chair that automatically sends chills down
- 5:56your back. That would be interesting.
- 5:58I would hate that. I would throw that shit out the
- 6:00window the first time that happens.
- 6:02A haptic vest that has like the motors and their shoulders so
- 6:06you can feel somebody tap your shoulder.
- 6:08No, no, again, that's going out the window.
- 6:11I would throw that shit out the window.
- 6:12That would be. Amazing, that would be I.
- 6:14Guarantee that cost about a grand.
- 6:17Oh easily, easily, they could. Do it.
- 6:19They could easily do that. We're getting there.
- 6:22That's like Ready Player one level stuff, yeah.
- 6:26People wouldn't do that for bad though.
- 6:28Yeah, people would definitely use that for I'll.
- 6:31I I, I know a few guys probably in the spawn camp would be like
- 6:34you only want to know what I, Matt Grant, what I did with
- 6:41that. But yes, not to derail.
- 6:43Let's get back. Yeah, but audio and the the use
- 6:48of the player is with the game that would that that's what kind
- 6:52of gets me. I feel like Outlast is always
- 6:55done like the, the, the 1st 2 Outlasts in my opinion.
- 6:58I like Trials is cool, but like the first two Outlast games
- 7:02where it's just you alone on the map and the game really torments
- 7:06you. I, I really thought those games
- 7:07did a very good job of like the cat and mouse feel where it's
- 7:11like, yeah, you, you don't really have an attack.
- 7:14You can kind of escape and use the environment to your
- 7:18advantage, but it's a lot of the game tricking you into going in
- 7:21certain directions and like, you know, what you think is in front
- 7:25of you isn't in front of you. That has always terrified me.
- 7:28Oh yeah, you know, that was one of the games on my list is
- 7:31Outlast. My too, that was that was like a
- 7:35challenge game when it first dropped like like can you play
- 7:38the Outlast trials? Not because your computer can't
- 7:40run it or it, you know, whatever, but like because like
- 7:43can you make it through? Are you like strong willed
- 7:46enough, I guess, to play this terrifying terrible game?
- 7:49And it's like, yeah, it is fucked up.
- 7:52Shoot, whenever it first came out, man that was a scary
- 7:56fucking game. Oh yeah, play a game with the
- 7:59lights off, dude, I hated it. I don't know like and I don't.
- 8:01Scare you? I couldn't.
- 8:02Something about that fucking game, dude, Because it's so
- 8:05aggressive too. It's like that is aggressive
- 8:07horror. It's in your face, it's
- 8:09something is screaming at you and not like a jump scare.
- 8:12It's just angry with you. And it starts out so unassuming,
- 8:17but it just dumps you right in. You like you show up and then
- 8:20then like the first scary thing happens the minute you open the
- 8:23door. Yeah.
- 8:25And it's just like city population.
- 8:27You. Yeah, it sucks, but cool.
- 8:32Very good answer, Connor. Noah, it is your turn.
- 8:36My turn the bit I have played, well, I was making my list and
- 8:42I've played more horror games than I thought I had.
- 8:45I think what what makes it is maybe this goes along with what
- 8:49Connor was saying, but it's in in a horror movie, you know the
- 8:55characters, you're not in control.
- 8:57They're going to go into the basement whether or not you want
- 9:00them to. But in a game, it makes you do
- 9:03it. It says you the only the only
- 9:05way out is through. You have to keep going.
- 9:07And it's that like, you know, it's kind of like, you know that
- 9:12it's a trap, but you have to progress into it and you don't
- 9:15exactly know what's going to happen when you do.
- 9:19The other thing for me is like atmosphere, obviously sound
- 9:22design and more of just like the concept of the thing kind of
- 9:28makes it scary. I have on my list, I have Scorn,
- 9:34which is not necessarily a horror game, but the the horror
- 9:40aspect comes from the bleakness of the world and like the
- 9:44greater implications of of the things that you're doing.
- 9:47Also, if if the game has something other to do than to
- 9:52make me just walk down the hallway and jump scare me, I
- 9:55really appreciate that. Like if it's a puzzle horror
- 9:57game, that's a big thing or if there's like a compelling
- 10:00narrative, that's another big thing or some kind of impressive
- 10:04gameplay element. Or if it's like, you know, scary
- 10:07game to play with friends or even just a scary moment of a
- 10:13non horror game. Stuff like that really makes the
- 10:20experience. Yeah, And I feel like with
- 10:23Scorn, what Scorn did so well or squelch the game, what it did so
- 10:29well was make you feel like you were inside this living world.
- 10:34Everything in the world, from the floor to the ceiling to like
- 10:39the dust in the air felt alive. And there was a level of guilt
- 10:45in Scorn that I felt when I was doing shit around the world.
- 10:49And I was like damn dude, like whatever I just did hurt this
- 10:53thing that is controlling the wall to then control the door.
- 10:59The key is alive. Everything feels connected.
- 11:03It's it's, it's like everything's a living Organism.
- 11:06It's fucked. Like every bit of that game is
- 11:09about pain did. You play that game, Connor.
- 11:11You play score. No, I didn't end up playing that
- 11:13one, Yeah. It's a, it's, it's a good one.
- 11:16It's it's a good short game too. Scorn 2 game.
- 11:19Pass Yeah. Scorn 2 please.
- 11:22You could finally get out of the mouth of whatever that thing is.
- 11:26Yeah, and it leaves you off on a cliffhanger at the end of it.
- 11:29Yeah, to give you an idea, Connor, the entire world looks
- 11:33like the inside of a mouth. Yeah.
- 11:37There's just like, it's just like fleshy walls and like
- 11:42exposed bone and all kinds of like gross out like body horror
- 11:48stuff. It's very H It is HR Giger
- 11:51expired inspired HR. It would certainly smell like
- 11:57expired something in there. Influenced is the word I'm
- 12:00looking for, and it works like that world works because of
- 12:04that, and given any other type of environmental world, this
- 12:09game doesn't work. But because it's that it works
- 12:13and it's just masterfully done. But it's terrifying and it's the
- 12:17body horror element of that that is terrifying to me.
- 12:19And I'm like, oh, dude, I hate it.
- 12:21The keys are alive. Yeah, like your, your weapon is
- 12:25alive. It's like your weapon.
- 12:27Is a parasitic Organism. You got to try.
- 12:31But it's it all like that game especially does a lot of the
- 12:35like you have to do this like are you willing to put yourself
- 12:39through it to get to the other side?
- 12:42And that one has a lot of like, you know, to save a checkpoint,
- 12:46you have to put your hand in a machine that stabs it a bunch of
- 12:49times. Yeah.
- 12:50And that stuff can kind of get like, fantastical.
- 12:52Like, after a certain point, how many times am I going to care
- 12:56about getting a six inch spike driven into my hand?
- 12:59Right, Right. You know.
- 13:03But that's yeah, yeah. What about you, Nick?
- 13:07It's definitely the environment a game sound is incredibly
- 13:12important too. Sound is important, like the
- 13:14depth of sound and what they're able to do with the sound to
- 13:19make the player feel a like you're in that environment in
- 13:22that world. That's important.
- 13:24You have Resident Evil wouldn't be the same.
- 13:27It wouldn't have lasted it had it not in the 90s caught that
- 13:31like attention of the people where it's like, dude, this
- 13:33feels yes, it looks like a bunch of pixels, but it I feel like
- 13:37I'm here because the sound sound is incredibly important.
- 13:40But on top of that is the atmosphere.
- 13:44It is the atmosphere of the game.
- 13:46It is forcing players. As Noah said, in a movie, you
- 13:50have no control in a game you have controllable.
- 13:52It's that control is taken away and you are forced and in
- 13:56situations you don't want to be in and you know it's going to
- 14:01leave you for worse. That is the beauty of a great
- 14:04horror game. I mean, there's the triumph at
- 14:07the end sometimes and even when there's not.
- 14:09And the player, ultimately your character ultimately loses at
- 14:13the end of a game like Resident Evil or you know, you win, but
- 14:17you also lose something along the way.
- 14:20I that's what I love. It's, it's that, it's that sense
- 14:22of atmosphere and loss on top of great sound design and just the
- 14:27ability that just 'cause I'm a player doesn't mean I have full
- 14:31control. The game is still controlling,
- 14:34even if it's letting me think I have control.
- 14:37I love that. I fucking love that like element
- 14:41of games that are that are in the genre.
- 14:43It's that like kind of knowing that you're sort of just along
- 14:46for the ride, Like you might feel like you're in control, but
- 14:50you're really not. Almost makes you feel like
- 14:52you're just moving chess pieces and that, yeah, that's it's a
- 14:55game that you're not going to win regardless.
- 14:58And I, and I, and I appreciate that about games like that.
- 15:01I think one of the games I, I bring it up every year, but it,
- 15:04it's true. Like it's the level in half Life
- 15:072 is called Ravenhole. And that still of this day will
- 15:10send chills up my spine because that.
- 15:14And there's one more scene in Half Life 2.
- 15:15It's when you're finally getting into City 17 and you walk past a
- 15:21playground and you go past a slide in a swing set, and in the
- 15:26distance you can hear faint laughter of children.
- 15:29But there haven't been children. Yeah.
- 15:32It's very Chernobyl. Yes, there hasn't been children
- 15:36in this universe in XY and Z amount of years since the Seven
- 15:40Hour War pretty much kicked off. And it's it's it's terrifying
- 15:44'cause they're you're just walking through this area.
- 15:46But Ravenholm is scary because it's like, this was like a nice
- 15:49little city and now it's infested with zombies.
- 15:52And there's a prepper priest that's literally guiding you
- 15:56through this hellhole city that he uses as a playground that's
- 16:00just filled with saw blades. And the zombies, every time they
- 16:03scream, you can hear them screaming help me, help me.
- 16:06And they're gurgling. And it's like this thing, dude,
- 16:10where it all? It got me when I was a kid
- 16:12because the game isn't scary up until then.
- 16:14You're just like, oh, it's just a cool run gun.
- 16:16Yeah, there's zombies, but not in this type of environment.
- 16:18It's dark, it's misty, it's got fire everywhere.
- 16:23There's awesome puzzles involving zombies being
- 16:26electrocuted, stuck to poles. And it's like, wow, this is
- 16:29fucked up. Dorilla, A shift in the tone,
- 16:32especially in that game. Everything sort of happens with
- 16:35daylight except for that. Yeah, yeah.
- 16:39And you know, it's moments like that in games like that.
- 16:41Again, it's that it's that whole atmosphere.
- 16:45And what they did there was they took the air out of the room
- 16:49literally because you're trapped in there.
- 16:51So it's like, all right, cool, boom.
- 16:53And it's like, God damn, that's that's the atmosphere.
- 16:56I love when you're able to do that to me in a game.
- 17:00That's what will make it scary for me and they.
- 17:02Did I feel like sometimes, honestly even more so than like
- 17:06full on horror games, a level in a game that's not usually scary,
- 17:12one level being scary is like way more effective than an
- 17:18entire game like I had. I agree.
- 17:20An honorable mention would have been the subway level in Half
- 17:25Life. Alex, for one, because.
- 17:27Oh God. Yeah, because you're up until
- 17:30that point, you're kind of just like walking around this cool VR
- 17:34world. At that point, it's probably the
- 17:36best VR environment you've ever seen.
- 17:40So then like after a certain point, you kind of like you go
- 17:44down to the subway and all the lights turn off and it's just
- 17:48you and your flashlight and you're looking around.
- 17:50You see like the head crab on the ground.
- 17:52That's the scariest thing you've ever seen.
- 17:53That's. It's actually in VR.
- 17:56Yeah, it's. Big.
- 17:58It's bigger than you think. It's it's that that is like
- 18:02super effective. I had to stop playing it at
- 18:05that. Point.
- 18:06I know I turned it off. I was like, I don't know about
- 18:08this. No, I.
- 18:09Had to work up the courage to go back and walk past the zombie on
- 18:14the ground because I didn't know what was going to happen.
- 18:16It's like, you know it, it's cartoony, but in VR it's like
- 18:21that's there that yeah, it's real.
- 18:23It's right next to you. It may be cartoony, but it's
- 18:25pretty fucking big. It also.
- 18:28It doesn't look like it would be great if that thing stood up and
- 18:31attacked you. Well, in Alex they are.
- 18:34You could see like the veins and the hairs and like they're
- 18:37chunky and then like you can pick them up and see the beaks
- 18:40and how sharp they are and it's like, God damn dude, this thing
- 18:44just literally grabs you and eats through your face and it
- 18:48just controls you. It's fucking wild.
- 18:50The potential of VR horror games is like, it's huge and I would
- 18:59say you need to look no further than Phasmophobia in VR.
- 19:04Yes. Yeah.
- 19:06Have you guys ever tried it? I I have I haven't wasted.
- 19:09My balls to it it is. Actually, the scariest thing
- 19:14I've ever experienced 'cause they have that game has such
- 19:19good sound. Yeah, like you were talking
- 19:22about Connor. That's all it takes.
- 19:23And then for the simple fact that like you hear the sound and
- 19:27you like turn around as if you're going to look behind you,
- 19:30but you're in the house, there's nowhere to go.
- 19:33It's with you somewhere. And you can't like you can't
- 19:35just like look away from it. I remember we, we were trying to
- 19:39play that. It was, it was Julian and I, we
- 19:41were both in VR and I think we had another person who was just
- 19:46regular playing it regular. And we went, we went inside the
- 19:50cabin. We took a step inside the cabin.
- 19:52The cabin. Noise happened.
- 19:54I looked at Julian and I said this is too scary, I'm not doing
- 19:57this. No, good dude.
- 20:02I I love fast. I think even for like a party
- 20:05game, fast does a really good job at like unfortunately you
- 20:10get people like me in the party who at first I'm just like, hey,
- 20:13you stupid fucking ghost. And it's like really trying to
- 20:16piss the AI off the AI off in my own head.
- 20:19And then shit happens. I'm like, all right, all right,
- 20:22how do we fix this? This sucks.
- 20:25How do we fix what I did? Yeah, dude, it does a great job
- 20:29at that. Me saying ah get out of here you
- 20:32stupid ghost. That's just a coping mechanism
- 20:35for being scared for me. I'm laughing through the tears.
- 20:39Here exactly. I walk through a haunted house
- 20:42and I'm just narrating everything, annoying everybody
- 20:46around me, but I feel fine because I can narrate it.
- 20:51Connor's like I feel better. I I feel.
- 20:53Better to talk through this or it's not getting done.
- 20:56Exactly. Exactly.
- 20:58Then Mickey Mouse comes out and it's just, yeah.
- 21:01Yeah, you do do the Mickey Mouse thing a lot during films.
- 21:05Yeah, you do do that during FAZ. You.
- 21:07Silly. Well, FAZ has the the unique,
- 21:11the unique feature where the the ghost can hear you.
- 21:16Yeah, you know, so that's a part of it.
- 21:18And you sometimes you have to be quiet because they can hear you.
- 21:21And escape the backrooms. They actually with the the
- 21:29proximity chat, they can they have a short bit of like a short
- 21:36memory in there where if it is a mimic, it can actually mimic a
- 21:43line. One of your party members says
- 21:46that's crazy. Oh, it's great because you think
- 21:49it's them and then it kills you. But being having the game
- 21:55actually sound like your buddies, it's fucked up, but
- 22:01it's. Awesome, what was that game we
- 22:04were playing? Oh my God, which one was it?
- 22:07It It's basically repo, but the first repo.
- 22:11Oh. Lethal.
- 22:14Lethal company, dude, when that shit was popping off and we were
- 22:17just like chilling there and we didn't know that that update hit
- 22:21and all I heard was hey Nick. And I was like, who the fuck is
- 22:24talk? Like, why are you talking like
- 22:25that? Because like somebody's like
- 22:27saying like hey Nick, hey Nick. And all I heard was hey Nick.
- 22:30And I went what the fuck? And I went holy fuck.
- 22:34And I tried hoofing it and just grabbed me, dude.
- 22:36I was like what? I love interactions like that
- 22:41all. Those those party games, your
- 22:43your repo and your lethal company have the the proximity
- 22:47voice chat is like an aspect of the horror where you could just
- 22:52like you can hear in the next room, like I could hear people
- 22:55screaming. And then all of a sudden it goes
- 22:56quiet and you have like a radio and you can call on the radio
- 23:00and then nobody answers. And then you might like find all
- 23:03their bodies. Yeah, you might find what killed
- 23:05them. Yeah.
- 23:08It's just good, man. It's just good fucking times.
- 23:11And I, I really do like that a lot of like the horror elements
- 23:17are coming to the forefront in this.
- 23:19I, I, I hate to use the term friend slop for some of these
- 23:22games, but like friend slop is like the newest trend in like
- 23:25indie, like it's just being churned out like.
- 23:28Game of the Week is what we call them.
- 23:31Yeah, in our server we call them game of the week.
- 23:33But like I do like that a lot of them are really gearing in
- 23:37towards a little bit of the scary because even repo at times
- 23:39you're like, Oh my God, like how in the fuck dude?
- 23:43Like this is crazy. Whenever you see the floating
- 23:46heads, everybody just disperses. Dude, yeah, a lot.
- 23:51A lot of lethal company is like funny silly times, but then it
- 23:56turns into like a slasher for a second where they'll be like the
- 24:00clown chasing you around. Yeah, and you're like, how the
- 24:04fuck, dude? You know what I mean?
- 24:07But then I mean you, you, you get games like your Alien
- 24:09Isolation where it's like that game is like still to me the
- 24:16scariest game that's come out in the last, I don't know how long.
- 24:19Because Resident Evil games, they don't scare me anymore,
- 24:22right? Like a lot of it's just like,
- 24:24we'll see what the next Resident Evil game.
- 24:27But a lot of them don't really do it for me because it's so
- 24:30actiony and it's a bit goofy at times.
- 24:33And not saying it's bad. Like the, you know, the last one
- 24:36had the baby scene where I was like, Oh my God, that's fucked
- 24:39because Landon was just born so that it struck a it struck A
- 24:43chord with me. I was like, Oh my fucking God,
- 24:44dude, that's terrifying. But like Alien Isolation is
- 24:50definitely the last game that really got me.
- 24:52Just that that that feeling of just being alone on your own and
- 24:56there's just this one thing that you cannot shake off of you.
- 25:00And it knows where you are, it can hear you, it's listening,
- 25:03it's toying with you. And as the player, you can't
- 25:06defend yourself. So it's I need to get my wits
- 25:09about me and go. But then you're faced with this
- 25:11corridor and the one light starts blinking and then a
- 25:15shadow appears. And then the light stops
- 25:17blinking and the shadow is gone. And you're sitting there as a
- 25:21player going. There's no way that's my only
- 25:23option. But that's that thing again
- 25:26where it's like that is your only option and you'll take it.
- 25:30Yeah, unless you want to return the game.
- 25:34Unless you're done playing, you're.
- 25:35Yeah. You got to get in there.
- 25:38Oh yeah, that, that's just what I love to really, to really cap
- 25:43this episode off. I want to know from you guys
- 25:45though, what were the scariest games that you have played or
- 25:50your scariest games or list of games you wanted to really
- 25:53mention or talk about before we put the nightcap on this episode
- 25:57and go trick or treating. Like our favorite horror game?
- 26:01Like our top or just. If you were if you were going to
- 26:03recommend a horror game to someone who hadn't played one,
- 26:06which one would you recommend? Me personally.
- 26:11Yeah. Oh, it's Alien Isolation all
- 26:13day. Like that game is First off, who
- 26:17doesn't love a good Alien story? Like who doesn't love that?
- 26:21See that franchise in that world?
- 26:23Maybe it's. Canon isn't.
- 26:25It it's all it's Canon. It's Ripley's daughter.
- 26:27I mean, so it, it's terrifying for all the reasons I said prior
- 26:33to this conversation right here, but also because of how pretty
- 26:36the game is and how much details around the ship and around the
- 26:41world that you're in. And the alien itself is just so
- 26:45menacing and you're so small compared to this thing.
- 26:49It's it's just, it's, it's a reverse power trip.
- 26:53And I, you love to see it. I fucking love being in this.
- 26:56I love it. Love Alien Isolation.
- 26:58But. It was such a great, great.
- 27:01Oh dude. Horror creature.
- 27:03It is because it's the it's an unstoppable killing machine for
- 27:06the most part. If I had to recommend a game to
- 27:11play that's not like that, I would.
- 27:14I would honestly recommend either Fear.
- 27:18For a really good scare I would recommend Fear or I'd recommend
- 27:21The Suffering 1. The Suffering is a very old game
- 27:25but being trapped in a prison because of your actions and then
- 27:31demons taking control of the prison and you trying to figure
- 27:36out like the paths to take to get a good ending, bad ending
- 27:40right? Like you're presented with
- 27:41choices throughout the game and dependent upon your choices is
- 27:45the outcome of the game for you. But throughout this whole thing,
- 27:49there's like this like messed up sense of like almost like a bit
- 27:53of Hellraiser meets Resident Evil reads, reads, meets like
- 27:59fucking Evil Dead a little bit, you know, but it's, it's
- 28:02bombastic, but it's scary at the same time.
- 28:05So yeah, Alien Isolation, fear and the suffering.
- 28:08Nice. Bye you, Connor.
- 28:14So one that I didn't mention earlier, it was Silent Hill
- 28:18Downpour on the yeah, on the PS3.
- 28:23I, that one, that one got me. I whenever you started talking
- 28:31about in the prison and like the demon takes control of the
- 28:33prison, that the prison in Silent Hill Downpour, that was,
- 28:37it was scary. There was no way in or out of
- 28:41that anymore. Once you got in, it was, that's
- 28:44it. But yeah, Silent Hill, Downpour
- 28:49and then there's one that I remember that was really good.
- 28:53But there was also when I was younger, so I'm not sure.
- 28:56Condemned 2 Bloodshot. Oh dude, the condemned series
- 28:59Fucking. Rips.
- 29:01Yeah, OK. Yeah, dude, abso fucking lutely.
- 29:05I would say those. Serial killer horror.
- 29:07Yeah, yeah, dude. Yeah.
- 29:10I would say those two are probably going to be the ones
- 29:13that I would recommend. And you said Vigil right
- 29:15earlier. Yeah, Vigil, because it was.
- 29:18So it was a demo. I don't know when the full game
- 29:24comes out. Let me actually take a look,
- 29:26Vigil. Is a little bit more
- 29:28psychological. Right, This isn't a fucking Five
- 29:31Nights at Freddy's game, is it? No.
- 29:36Oh, it's just like a little robot guy.
- 29:37I I see Vigil's a short narrative or Oh, I I added that.
- 29:42Add that to my library. It's just right on Steam.
- 29:47I didn't know that. Yeah.
- 29:49Blinking detection via webcam? Oh, if you're soft you can use
- 29:55the alternative keyboard based blink.
- 29:58That's the honor system though, and I feel like you could just
- 30:01cheat. Oh, I'm not doing that.
- 30:03I will actually play this with my blinks.
- 30:06Terrifying. Maybe Angels, but OK.
- 30:09Yeah, I'm here for that. Vigil looks sick and play after
- 30:12we finished recording. Yeah, it was fun.
- 30:14Sick, Mr. Noah. I would.
- 30:20I'm going to go with the The Blair Witch.
- 30:23Oh hell yeah. Credible, incredible game from
- 30:27incredible IP that I feel has had a bit of a rough go in its
- 30:33time. You know, the original movie was
- 30:36revolutionary for horror movies and found footage and the game
- 30:42is really good. It's got really good horror
- 30:44aspects. It's a really good narrative.
- 30:47The mechanics are really good. I'm not going to even spoil what
- 30:52they are. I it's pretty short.
- 30:54I think you could beat it in like 5 hours or something.
- 30:57Really compelling, really good stuff like start to finish.
- 31:00It's a perfect in my opinion, it's the perfect horror game.
- 31:05Huh. I love Blair Witch game.
- 31:07I remember when I told you. Did Silent Hill 2.
- 31:11Oh no. Oh, it is, isn't it?
- 31:13Yeah, they also did Layers of Fear.
- 31:18Layers Fear is cool. Have you guys ever played like
- 31:20Penumbra or anything like that? I played Penumbra.
- 31:24Yeah, Penumbra is terrifying. I I didn't get very far because
- 31:29of that, but Blair Witch, awesome, awesome game.
- 31:32Really, really awesome. No, I think I told you
- 31:34yesterday, me and Kyle around, like when we lived in Dearborn,
- 31:38we had a projector and we had the I, I hooked up the Xbox to
- 31:41it out in the backyard on Halloween and we had the Blair
- 31:44Witch game on the garage door and I set up speakers in the
- 31:49backyard like it was computer speaker.
- 31:53I forgot how we rigged this up, dude, but there was 2 in the
- 31:56front and two in the back. And it worked.
- 31:58And Kyle was amazed. Yeah, dude, it was like
- 32:01Bluetooth connected speakers. And then I hooked one into.
- 32:05So the output of the, of the projector, the projector, and
- 32:11then it just like it, it, it worked.
- 32:14And I remember just being able to hear shit all around.
- 32:18And I was playing that game and he was incredibly high.
- 32:21And he was just like just standing there like, dude, this
- 32:24fucking sucks, man. This fucking sucks man and I
- 32:28felt so bad I was I was drunk when I was like really good.
- 32:32This is fucking crazy dude. I just have one more thought,
- 32:36just one more thought. What is the first horror game
- 32:40you guys ever played and how? How old were you?
- 32:45I first played, so I did. My first actual like like memory
- 32:52of playing a horror game was Resident Evil on my Uncle
- 32:55Keith's PlayStation. I was not old.
- 33:00I I was a kid, six or seven maybe.
- 33:04I remember the dogs in Resident Evil fucked me up incredibly
- 33:08bad. But I remember like my like my
- 33:11uncle laughing and like he, I, I remember playing a little bit,
- 33:15but really watching him. The actual like first scary game
- 33:18though, that I played by myself. Fuck man, probably FEAR.
- 33:28Like no Doom 3. Doom 3.
- 33:31The actual first game that scared the shit out of me that I
- 33:35can remember vividly playing that is a horror game is Doom 3.
- 33:40That game scared me terribly when I was like a young teen.
- 33:44I was like maybe 11 years old playing that game.
- 33:47Fear of a half life mod. No it's not a half life mod.
- 33:50I believe it's based on it's it's made in the source engine
- 33:53though if I had I don't recall but or the yeah, I think it's
- 33:59source engine. Yeah, mine.
- 34:02Mine was Slenderman. This the pages.
- 34:07Yep, Slenderman pages. You downloaded it in a little
- 34:11zip file. You just play it right off your
- 34:14desktop. It was the first first scary
- 34:17game I played and the last for a while.
- 34:21I didn't play it for a while after that one.
- 34:23So correction, fear was on the havoc and lift tech engines.
- 34:29So gotcha, I'm correct. But yeah, no Slender Man that I
- 34:32remember, that game came out. Classic.
- 34:35Everybody, I was on a certain forum website, then they were
- 34:39all talking about it on that. And then I was like, I have to
- 34:43get it. And then I downloaded it,
- 34:46unpacked it, whatever. And I remember playing it for
- 34:49like an hour ago and I, I can't, I don't know how to do this.
- 34:53And then I just like got into it and I was like, oh, shit, OK.
- 34:56And then just scared the fuck out of me.
- 34:57I was like, this sucks. No, Mr. Connor.
- 35:04The first horror game I played I remember the I remember us
- 35:13having the box for it. It was Resident Evil Outbreak
- 35:17for the PS2. Yeah.
- 35:21My dad probably handed me the controller once, so I'll just
- 35:24say that that was the first one I played.
- 35:28But the first one that I actually got into was Also it
- 35:33was slender, the 8 pages. That's wild.
- 35:36That's one that some people might.
- 35:38It's so like such a classic. I almost forgot like to mention
- 35:43it at all, because that's almost.
- 35:45Your guys's age range though. Yeah, I was probably like 14
- 35:48when I played it the first time. Shoot, I was able to play it on
- 35:52a iPod touch 3rd Gen. on the bus on the way to school.
- 35:58How did that work? How did I don't understand?
- 36:01So about I would want to say shoot like 4 to 6 months after
- 36:07like it got really like overhyped.
- 36:10A bunch of app developers just ported it over to a playable
- 36:17game on the App Store. That's crazy.
- 36:20And it was all just types. It was great in the App Store.
- 36:24Slender, you might be able to get it.
- 36:25Yeah. Or they get a news article about
- 36:28that girl who like stabbed her friend or whatever.
- 36:30Yeah, yeah, yeah. No one went.
- 36:34Coming wait on the App Store, why would you get a news
- 36:36article? There's someone made a game
- 36:38about it at one point. Oh, Yep.
- 36:41Slender Man's Forest. Is that the game on the App
- 36:45Store? Just right there, isn't it?
- 36:48And I think there were three maps you could play on it.
- 36:54Was that one the one with the red background?
- 36:57Yep, that one right there. It kind of sucks at like slender
- 37:03is a slender man is AI think is a cool creepypasta.
- 37:07Not as cool as this Kanjili man, but like he's still cool.
- 37:11Kanjili man is an SCP. That is true.
- 37:15Wait is that I thought he was a what?
- 37:17He's SCP now he. Well, he's, you know, he's kind
- 37:21of like an SCP, but he's kind of like a slender man.
- 37:24I could talk. We could talk forever.
- 37:25We we can talk Scanjilly all day, but we won't.
- 37:29But no slender is cool though, because like that was your
- 37:31guys's like definite age, you know, group playing that because
- 37:35I was like 1718 when I think that came out.
- 37:40So that's dope. Hell yes, everybody.
- 37:45Well, I. Think that about does it?
- 37:47That caps off our Halloween special this year.
