- 1:12Speaker 1: Hour of hell.
- 1:32Speaker 8: What's up? Welcome to Movie Meltdown's Attack of the Killers soundtrack.
- 1:36Speaker 8: I'm Brian, and I'm coming to you live via digital
- 1:38Speaker 8: recording from the outskirts of Lebowski Fest. In fact, you
- 1:42Speaker 8: may be able to hear some of the music going
- 1:44Speaker 8: on at the festival right now. So anyway, as some
- 1:50Speaker 8: of you may already know, if you've been listening for
- 1:53Speaker 8: a while, we've already done an episode from Lebowski Fest
- 1:56Speaker 8: in the previous year, so I felt like we'd already
- 1:58Speaker 8: kind of covered a regular, basic version. And as it
- 2:01Speaker 8: was coming around again, I didn't want to do anything
- 2:03Speaker 8: too similar. But now that we also have this new spin-off,
- 2:07Speaker 8: music-themed show, well, it gives us a whole new way
- 2:10Speaker 8: to address the festivities, and especially if we can work
- 2:14Speaker 8: in a guest. But we'll get to him in a minute.
- 2:17Speaker 8: But first up, Now, if you listen to that episode
- 2:19Speaker 8: from a few years back, it's one of those I
- 2:22Speaker 8: don't normally like to hit the nail squarely on the head.
- 2:26Speaker 8: I like to do things a little different, as we
- 2:29Speaker 8: did last time at Lebowski Fest, talking about something entirely different.
- 2:33Speaker 8: So normally I wouldn't come to something like Lebowski Fest
- 2:37Speaker 8: and then play a song from The Big Lebowski. But
- 2:41Speaker 8: in this circumstance, I'm going to make an exception because,
- 2:44Speaker 8: number one, I do have to admit, The Big Lebowski
- 2:47Speaker 8: has an awesome soundtrack. And number two, I love this song.
- 2:54Speaker 8: Is there any other option? I mean, there's many great
- 2:56Speaker 8: songs on there, but it's all about just dropped in
- 3:00Speaker 8: to see what condition my condition was in.
- 3:03Speaker 3: You're doing all right.
- 3:04Speaker 8: This song is definitely the first time I came in
- 3:08Speaker 8: contact with it, and really the first time I was
- 3:10Speaker 8: exposed to the first edition of Obviously knew of Kenny
- 3:14Speaker 8: Rogers in the past, but didn't even know he'd previously
- 3:17Speaker 8: been in a band. It's one of those things, even
- 3:19Speaker 8: when I was a kid, I was never really into
- 3:21Speaker 8: country music. I mean, since then, I've come to respect
- 3:24Speaker 8: some of the really older stuff. But just, you know,
- 3:28Speaker 8: modern country now, definitely not. And even country when I
- 3:31Speaker 8: was a kid just wasn't really what I was into.
- 3:33Speaker 8: But it was funny. Over at my grandmother's house, there
- 3:36Speaker 8: was this big double album. Yes, vinyl. and it was
- 3:40Speaker 8: like a greatest hits of Kenny Rogers kind of thing,
- 3:44Speaker 8: and I remember always going over there and going through
- 3:46Speaker 8: their record albums, and I would always be fascinated with
- 3:50Speaker 8: that one, and just this guy with the big beard
- 3:53Speaker 8: and the white suit, and I don't know, there was
- 3:56Speaker 8: something about him that seemed kind of cool, and I
- 3:58Speaker 8: do remember listening to it. I remember playing those records
- 4:02Speaker 8: a good amount, probably more than some of the other,
- 4:04Speaker 8: God knows what else they had over there, but I
- 4:06Speaker 8: specifically remember that one. And it was one of those, like,
- 4:10Speaker 8: I think I pieced together why that was so different than,
- 4:13Speaker 8: you know, stuff that would have been lumped in with
- 4:15Speaker 8: that style of music at the time. I think, as
- 4:20Speaker 8: my dad would later refer to it, I liked story songs.
- 4:24Speaker 8: And maybe it's just being a kid, you know, you
- 4:26Speaker 8: like when people tell you stories, or you like reading
- 4:29Speaker 8: storybooks and things like that. So it's like, maybe that's
- 4:32Speaker 8: what appealed to me so much as a kid, because
- 4:35Speaker 8: I think back and like the ones that I remember
- 4:37Speaker 8: so well were stuff like Coward of the County or
- 4:40Speaker 8: Long Arm of the Law. And they were like very
- 4:42Speaker 8: specific stories that he's telling. And, you know, he works
- 4:46Speaker 8: in a musical theme and, you know, it's got, you know,
- 4:50Speaker 8: a chorus along the way. But for the most part,
- 4:52Speaker 8: he's telling a story more than anything else with a
- 4:56Speaker 8: lot of those songs of that era. So I really
- 4:59Speaker 8: do think that's kind of what I was into at
- 5:01Speaker 8: that point. You know, that's what drew me to him. Well,
- 5:05Speaker 8: that and the beard and the awesome suit. So it's
- 5:08Speaker 8: one of those things, even though I wasn't into that
- 5:11Speaker 8: type of music, he was an interesting character and still
- 5:14Speaker 8: continues to be. I've certainly come to disagree with some
- 5:19Speaker 8: of his surgical decisions in more recent years, but aside
- 5:24Speaker 8: from that, musically, he's still pretty entertaining. So with that,
- 5:27Speaker 8: I say we just go ahead and get into the song.
- 5:29Speaker 8: Once again, hopefully you're familiar with it. If not, welcome
- 5:33Speaker 8: to it. Just dropped in to see what condition my
- 5:37Speaker 8: condition was in by the first edition.
- 5:47Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, oh yeah, what condition my condition was in.
- 5:55Speaker 7: I woke up this morning with the sun down, shining in.
- 6:03Speaker 7: I found my mind in a brown paper bag.
- 6:07Speaker 8: But then.
- 6:12Speaker 7: I tripped on a cloud and fell.
- 6:14Speaker 11: Eight miles high.
- 6:16Speaker 7: I tore my mind on a jagged sky. I just
- 6:21Speaker 7: dropped in to see what condition my condition was in.
- 6:26Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, oh yeah, what condition my condition was in.
- 6:39Speaker 7: I pushed my soul in a deep, dark hole and
- 6:42Speaker 7: then I followed it in. I watched myself crawling out
- 6:50Speaker 7: as I was crawling in. I got up so tight
- 6:57Speaker 7: I couldn't unwind. I saw so much I broke my mind.
- 7:03Speaker 7: I just dropped in to see what condition my condition
- 7:08Speaker 7: was in.
- 7:17Speaker 12: Yeah, yeah, oh.
- 7:36Speaker 4: Yeah, what condition my condition was in.
- 7:47Speaker 7: Someone painted April Fools in pink black letters on a
- 7:52Speaker 7: dead end sign.
- 7:53Speaker 12: I had my.
- 7:56Speaker 7: Foot on the gas as I left the road and
- 8:00Speaker 7: blew out my mind.
- 8:04Speaker 10: Eight miles out of Memphis and I got nowhere.
- 8:08Speaker 7: Eight miles straight up downtown somewhere. I just dropped in
- 8:14Speaker 7: to see what condition my condition was in. I said
- 8:21Speaker 7: I just dropped in to see what condition my condition
- 8:26Speaker 7: was in.
- 8:29Speaker 9: Yeah!
- 8:30Speaker 11: Yeah!
- 8:31Speaker 4: Oh yeah!
- 8:52Speaker 8: Oddly enough that song was originally recorded in 1967 by
- 8:56Speaker 8: jerry lee lewis who is another now that one is
- 8:58Speaker 8: one i am into like you know old school rock
- 9:01Speaker 8: and roll i got into and and specifically jerry lee Again,
- 9:04Speaker 8: another movie tie-in, Great Balls of Fire. But after that,
- 9:08Speaker 8: I really sort of got into his whole catalog and
- 9:11Speaker 8: was going back, you know, listening to a lot of
- 9:13Speaker 8: his old stuff. It's funny, I don't remember running across
- 9:16Speaker 8: that one until recently. And it was actually geared specifically
- 9:20Speaker 8: for him originally. And he did record a version of it,
- 9:23Speaker 8: but he rejected it. And it somehow got kicked over
- 9:26Speaker 8: to the first edition. And it actually ended up being
- 9:29Speaker 8: a big hit for them in 1968. And it's still
- 9:32Speaker 8: probably the main thing they're known for. There are very
- 9:35Speaker 8: weird lyrics in there, I'm sure you noticed, and it's
- 9:38Speaker 8: funny to find out that it was meant to reflect
- 9:41Speaker 8: the LSD experience and was intended to be a warning
- 9:45Speaker 8: against the dangers of using LSD. So keep that in mind, kids.
- 9:51Speaker 8: Don't let that happen to you. Certainly it's used very
- 9:55Speaker 8: appropriately in The Big Lebowski, in that very special dream
- 9:59Speaker 8: sequence that Jeff Bridges has.
- 10:00Speaker 7: Was it a dream where you see yourself standing in
- 10:03Speaker 7: sort of sun god robes on a pyramid with a
- 10:06Speaker 7: thousand naked women screaming.
- 10:08Speaker 13: And throwing little pickles at you?
- 10:10Speaker 14: No.
- 10:11Speaker 13: Why am I the only person that has that dream?
- 10:13Speaker 8: Alright, so moving on to the big event for me.
- 10:17Speaker 8: the guest of the episode, and the reason I really
- 10:20Speaker 8: wanted to put this together, once they started putting the
- 10:24Speaker 8: line up, I saw that they were bringing in the
- 10:26Speaker 8: Kyle Gass band, KGB, and he's, I mean, Kyle, you
- 10:33Speaker 8: gotta love Kyle, right? I mean, even if you don't
- 10:35Speaker 8: know that much about him, and the one I thought about,
- 10:38Speaker 8: I was like, well, that would be somebody I would
- 10:39Speaker 8: like to sit down and talk to, because I know
- 10:41Speaker 8: he's He's been acting for years in smaller roles and
- 10:45Speaker 8: like find out how that started. Plus all, you know,
- 10:49Speaker 8: the music career in several bands now and obviously the
- 10:52Speaker 8: big Jack Black tie in. So, yeah, I was definitely
- 10:55Speaker 8: like that's somebody I'd like to sit down and talk to.
- 10:57Speaker 8: And then I was like, well, with him having such
- 11:00Speaker 8: a heavy music influence, it would be really interesting to
- 11:03Speaker 8: have him sit in and give us his killer five.
- 11:06Speaker 8: So we're going to head in now and talk to Kyle,
- 11:08Speaker 8: and we're going to get a little backstory on him
- 11:10Speaker 8: as to how he got into music and movies, and
- 11:13Speaker 8: then we will invite him to give us his killer five.
- 11:29Speaker 11: Oh, yeah.
- 11:29Speaker 2: I like it better.
- 11:30Speaker 9: Much better. Oh, yeah.
- 11:32Speaker 2: I can get more sweaty balls going.
- 11:35Speaker 12: Mm-hmm.
- 11:36Speaker 9: All right.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Are we rolling? Are we ready?
- 11:38Speaker 8: We are functional.
- 11:40Speaker 15: Wow.
- 11:40Speaker 2: So this interview's actually started.
- 11:42Speaker 8: It's ready to go if you are.
- 11:43Speaker 2: And I didn't even realize it. That's fantastic, Bri.
- 11:47Speaker 8: We are here with KG himself.
- 11:50Speaker 2: What?
- 11:51Speaker 8: That's one of the first ones I wanted to ask.
- 11:52Speaker 8: How long have you been KG? I mean, not that
- 11:54Speaker 8: it doesn't, you know, apply, but like, It's weird when
- 11:57Speaker 8: you get those kind of nicknames. I've been B in
- 12:00Speaker 8: certain circles my whole damn life. Since I was a
- 12:02Speaker 8: little kid. B. But only certain people call me that.
- 12:06Speaker 8: So I was like, how long and in what circumstances
- 12:09Speaker 8: have you been KG?
- 12:10Speaker 2: I think it's a tenacious D thing. I think Jack
- 12:15Speaker 2: started calling me that early. But it becomes so familiar
- 12:17Speaker 2: that if someone calls me KG, then I realize that
- 12:20Speaker 2: they're actually not that close. It's like when someone says
- 12:23Speaker 2: your name. That's right, Brian. That has a weird air
- 12:27Speaker 2: of formality to it. So when someone says KG, I'm like, oh,
- 12:29Speaker 2: that's probably a fan or something.
- 12:31Speaker 8: You don't know me. Leave me alone.
- 12:33Speaker 9: Yeah. Kind of.
- 12:35Speaker 8: Well, I guess to get into the music end of it,
- 12:39Speaker 8: how early on did you get into the guitar scene?
- 12:43Speaker 2: Well, there was a guitar laying around the house that
- 12:47Speaker 2: I think everyone sort of took a crack at. And
- 12:50Speaker 2: I started playing flute early and then picked up the
- 12:54Speaker 2: guitar around 11 or 12 and enjoyed.
- 12:59Speaker 8: Was it something that was still just for fun? Or
- 13:02Speaker 8: was it serious enough that you thought, I'm going to
- 13:05Speaker 8: turn this into a career?
- 13:07Speaker 2: Well, yeah. You know, that definitely, I mean, definitely for
- 13:11Speaker 2: fun when you're 12 years old. It's just like you
- 13:14Speaker 2: want to figure out. And then I actually got into
- 13:18Speaker 2: kind of classical guitar and then started getting into jazz. And, yeah,
- 13:23Speaker 2: just playing for fun. But then at some point I
- 13:25Speaker 2: had kind of a career strategy where I really, I just,
- 13:31Speaker 2: I never wanted to work in an office or kind
- 13:33Speaker 2: of have a straight job. And it just almost terrified
- 13:36Speaker 2: me to the point it was a good kind of motivator.
- 13:40Speaker 2: So I thought, well, I knew I wanted to be
- 13:41Speaker 2: an actor. And then the music was kind of my
- 13:44Speaker 2: plan B. Like, well, if I get good enough, I
- 13:47Speaker 2: could play like bar bands or something and just eke
- 13:50Speaker 2: out a living. But anything would be better. It's kind
- 13:52Speaker 2: of like Kinko's. Working at Kinko's is kind of the
- 13:54Speaker 2: nightmare scenario. Anything I could do to avoid that.
- 13:58Speaker 8: But eventually they'll make you a manager.
- 14:00Speaker 2: You get keys and everything.
- 14:02Speaker 8: Keys. But I don't know. It's one of those, you
- 14:07Speaker 8: can never tell when, you know, some people use that
- 14:10Speaker 8: as their plan for life. You mentioned acting. I mean,
- 14:14Speaker 8: what led you to acting, and then how did you
- 14:17Speaker 8: end up?
- 14:17Speaker 2: I know exactly what happened to acting was first grade,
- 14:22Speaker 2: we did a play called Stuck in the Chimney, and
- 14:25Speaker 2: I played the lead role of Santa. Santa gets stuck
- 14:29Speaker 2: in the chimney because he had too many cookies. Lead
- 14:32Speaker 2: role already. Yeah, no, I know. And I remember getting
- 14:36Speaker 2: the part and being excited. And then, of course, performing.
- 14:39Speaker 2: I got some laughs. And then I was really hooked.
- 14:42Speaker 2: I thought, I think this is my destiny. I have to.
- 14:45Speaker 2: And then I thought, yeah, this is going to work.
- 14:47Speaker 2: And then all through school, I would just do the acting.
- 14:50Speaker 2: And then, yeah, it was a music and acting kind of.
- 14:57Speaker 2: emphasis and also my i have two older brothers and
- 14:59Speaker 2: they were more kind of math science guys yeah and
- 15:02Speaker 2: so i think it was also a way to kind
- 15:03Speaker 2: of break away from that and i didn't have any
- 15:05Speaker 2: aptitude anyway so i was like i was always i
- 15:08Speaker 2: always thought it's it was easier for me because there
- 15:11Speaker 2: really isn't a backup plan after the arts it's just
- 15:15Speaker 2: like it's always a good fall i have to do
- 15:17Speaker 2: it and a great quote that always kind of motivated
- 15:20Speaker 2: me was um george burns the uh the iconic comedian
- 15:27Speaker 2: said I would rather fail at show business than any
- 15:30Speaker 2: other business. I thought, yeah, I'll fail at this. It's
- 15:33Speaker 2: a great way to go out.
- 15:35Speaker 8: If you're going to fail, show business, that's the way.
- 15:38Speaker 2: And then, of course, as things work out, too, it
- 15:40Speaker 2: was like acting, you know, sporadic, but definitely hard to
- 15:43Speaker 2: make a living. And then, of course, once the music
- 15:46Speaker 2: started hitting a little bit, then the acting got better.
- 15:49Speaker 2: It's like, wait, but why are you hiring me now
- 15:51Speaker 2: because I'm doing music? It didn't make any sense to me,
- 15:53Speaker 2: but now it kind of does.
- 15:54Speaker 8: It all kind of hits that groove and then everything
- 15:57Speaker 8: starts working.
- 15:57Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 15:58Speaker 8: Well, I was going to do early, like as far
- 16:00Speaker 8: as acting, what did you fall in with that group
- 16:04Speaker 8: of actors? I've seen it kind of listed and one
- 16:06Speaker 8: of which being Tim Robbins. Is that something that actually happened?
- 16:10Speaker 2: Well, yeah, we went to, um, uh, we all went
- 16:13Speaker 2: to UCLA in the early eighties. Oh my God, I'm old. And, um, 90s, 2000s.
- 16:18Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 16:19Speaker 2: We'll, we'll go 90s. Yeah.
- 16:20Speaker 11: 90s.
- 16:20Speaker 1: There you go.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Uh, But yeah, I went to school at the same
- 16:24Speaker 2: time in the theater department and it was very much, well,
- 16:28Speaker 2: we're going to be theater artists and change the world
- 16:31Speaker 2: with our political theater, I guess. So we started a
- 16:34Speaker 2: group called the Actors Gang and worked in that for
- 16:39Speaker 2: like 10 years after college. And yeah, it was great.
- 16:45Speaker 2: And then met Jack through the Actors Gang. There was
- 16:48Speaker 2: kind of a UCLA pipeline to the Actors Gang and
- 16:52Speaker 2: so Jack came in kind of second generation and then
- 16:54Speaker 2: we met up.
- 16:55Speaker 8: And you're like oh this guy.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Uh yeah he was you know everyone kind of could
- 17:02Speaker 2: tell like oh that that kid's really he's crazy and
- 17:05Speaker 2: talented you know and it wasn't and he had a
- 17:07Speaker 2: great voice and I was like and I had sort
- 17:09Speaker 2: of thought about um I'd played in two-man groups I
- 17:12Speaker 2: kind of like the Everly Brothers Simon and Garfunkel uh
- 17:16Speaker 2: model and so I was kind of looking and I
- 17:19Speaker 2: didn't I knew I wasn't like a singer-songwriter um guy
- 17:23Speaker 2: and i was also kind of more of a comedic
- 17:25Speaker 2: actor and so i knew there was an angle there
- 17:28Speaker 2: and and also the movie spinal tap it was very
- 17:31Speaker 2: inspirational where it was like oh i get it that's
- 17:36Speaker 2: you know you take the genre and and so yeah
- 17:39Speaker 2: it all kind of mixed in a stew and then
- 17:41Speaker 2: uh yeah the d came out.
- 17:43Speaker 8: Was jack just like that, that early? Because even his
- 17:46Speaker 8: early performances, you can kind of see he's already found
- 17:48Speaker 8: that groove. I mean, as early as when you met him,
- 17:51Speaker 8: was he already sort of in that mode?
- 17:52Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a force of nature. He's just a highly
- 17:56Speaker 2: creative and very funny. I mean, obviously, you know, I
- 18:00Speaker 2: say Jack's very funny, but I mean, just hanging with Jack,
- 18:04Speaker 2: he just has a great sense of humor and, you know,
- 18:07Speaker 2: we go on tour and he's just, A magnetic, expansive,
- 18:14Speaker 2: highly creative, comedic genius, really. I mean, I'm still laughing
- 18:19Speaker 2: at him, you know, like 30 years later. It's amazing.
- 18:22Speaker 8: Do you balance him out? Are you the ying to
- 18:25Speaker 8: the yang?
- 18:26Speaker 2: Well, you know, I think there is a tendency to
- 18:28Speaker 2: kind of analyze it when something's working like that. I
- 18:31Speaker 2: guess there is something to it. It seems weird to
- 18:33Speaker 2: me that I would be the straight man. But, I mean,
- 18:38Speaker 2: the emphasis was just I want the act to work.
- 18:41Speaker 2: I want it to work. So it's like, okay, Jack
- 18:43Speaker 2: does that. You play to your strengths. Like, okay, I'm
- 18:45Speaker 2: good at guitar and kind of maybe underplaying things. And
- 18:48Speaker 2: Jack is a very, you know, huge, huge personality. And
- 18:52Speaker 2: so he's, he's kind of the front guy. And, and
- 18:55Speaker 2: so it just sort of evolves. I mean, you don't
- 18:57Speaker 2: really like, okay, I'm going to be the strength man.
- 18:59Speaker 8: Map it out.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Map it out. It's very kind of, you know, we're,
- 19:02Speaker 2: I think even more organic than most, we kind of
- 19:05Speaker 2: just use what, what's happening and, and kind of bring
- 19:08Speaker 2: it on stage and kind of find the truth and,
- 19:11Speaker 2: And then, yeah, go from there.
- 19:14Speaker 8: I did want to hit a couple of the early, like, movies.
- 19:17Speaker 8: I mean, I guess knowing Tim, is that what led
- 19:19Speaker 8: to Jacob's Ladder? That seemed like an odd choice to
- 19:22Speaker 8: get thrown into in the middle of, you know, just
- 19:25Speaker 8: getting into acting.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Yeah, that was, we were actually, we were actually doing
- 19:31Speaker 2: a play with the actress gang at the Public Theater
- 19:33Speaker 2: in New York, and that's where they were shooting. And
- 19:36Speaker 2: Tim got us all auditions, and I just kind of
- 19:39Speaker 2: snagged a little part. In Jacob's Ladder.
- 19:41Speaker 8: It's the Adrian line, too. What was he, as far
- 19:44Speaker 8: as that set?
- 19:46Speaker 2: Oh, Adrian. Well, he was very much against any sort of... acting.
- 19:50Speaker 2: I remember I think he gave me some notes like,
- 19:52Speaker 2: stop acting. What are you doing? And I was like, oh,
- 19:55Speaker 2: my God, I'm sorry. Don't do anything. But he did Flashdance,
- 20:01Speaker 2: I think, didn't he?
- 20:02Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Everything kind of looked like a commercial thing. Yeah. Back then.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Fatal attraction. Every scene had like a lot of fog
- 20:12Speaker 2: in it.
- 20:12Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 20:13Speaker 2: It had that kind of like Top Gun look to it.
- 20:16Speaker 8: He's very visual. Sometimes it's a little overdone, but I.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Yeah, it definitely... Now it looks kind of dated, I think.
- 20:23Speaker 2: You can go, oh.
- 20:24Speaker 8: Probably that. But I still feel like that movie was
- 20:27Speaker 8: very like.
- 20:29Speaker 8: It was sort of groundbreaking at the time. A lot
- 20:31Speaker 8: of the weird visual tricks that he was doing like
- 20:34Speaker 8: during those weird kind of... trippy sequences as we find
- 20:38Speaker 8: out as the movie goes along like i think they
- 20:40Speaker 8: started copying them in so many horror movies it wasn't
- 20:43Speaker 8: even like straight horror but like it seems like all
- 20:45Speaker 8: of the bad horror movies that came out in the
- 20:48Speaker 8: next you know 15 years after that were kind of
- 20:50Speaker 8: stealing shots from him from.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Yeah no doubt yeah he was quite a stylist for sure.
- 20:54Speaker 8: Definitely uh and then brain dead what.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Brain dead was actually i believe my first movie yeah
- 21:02Speaker 2: i think that was the first time it was uh
- 21:04Speaker 2: It was a Roger Corman, and once again, a writer,
- 21:09Speaker 2: I forget his name now. Oh, God, what is his
- 21:12Speaker 2: name now? That's so funny. But he wrote Carnage, which
- 21:16Speaker 2: was the play that we did at the Public Theater,
- 21:18Speaker 2: and he did Braindead, and, you know, he used us all. And, yeah,
- 21:25Speaker 2: it was kind of a great way to break in.
- 21:26Speaker 2: You know, it's sort of a famous, you know, the
- 21:29Speaker 2: Roger Corman B-movie thing was very kind of time-honored in Hollywood,
- 21:33Speaker 2: and I think a lot of people started out there.
- 21:35Speaker 8: Roger's a genius. We've had him on the show. He's amazing.
- 21:40Speaker 8: And he's so calm about everything.
- 21:44Speaker 2: He cracked his own code. He's like, I'll just make
- 21:46Speaker 2: these movies for as little as I can. That's the thing.
- 21:50Speaker 2: If you can make a movie for cheap enough, it
- 21:52Speaker 2: will make money. Yeah.
- 21:54Speaker 8: I mean, he was always a good businessman, but he
- 21:56Speaker 8: still had some pretty good visual style in the stuff
- 21:59Speaker 8: that he directed. By the time he became a producer,
- 22:01Speaker 8: he was just business. But his 60s stuff were visually
- 22:04Speaker 8: pretty interesting.
- 22:05Speaker 2: What do you recommend? What's his best movie?
- 22:08Speaker 8: He did a lot of those Poe ones with, like,
- 22:10Speaker 8: Vincent Price. He did some of those.
- 22:11Speaker 11: Oh, did he?
- 22:12Speaker 8: Those were, yeah. And he would get into, like, working in,
- 22:16Speaker 8: especially once he hit and crossed over into the color,
- 22:18Speaker 8: he started doing the crazy, like, color schemes. But, like,
- 22:21Speaker 8: even his, like, older, like, early 60s stuff. There's like
- 22:25Speaker 8: The Wasp Woman, which sounds really schlocky. Actually, if you
- 22:29Speaker 8: get into it, she's like a really smart businesswoman to
- 22:32Speaker 8: be that early to have a female lead and have
- 22:35Speaker 8: her be kind of empowered. It's pretty progressive for him.
- 22:38Speaker 8: He had some good stuff. He's an interesting director.
- 22:54Speaker 9: It's time for the Kill of Five.
- 23:02Speaker 8: Well, to cross over into the music, this is one
- 23:04Speaker 8: of the big music episodes here. And we do our segment,
- 23:07Speaker 8: so I just have people pick five songs that have
- 23:11Speaker 8: been featured in movies or really kind of heavily influenced
- 23:15Speaker 8: the movie that they're in. So I guess just wanted
- 23:18Speaker 8: to have you pick some of your favorites or stuff
- 23:19Speaker 8: that you thought was sort of influential or however you
- 23:23Speaker 8: want to go about it.
- 23:24Speaker 2: I loved, I think there was definitely just a great
- 23:29Speaker 2: period in motion pictures, the early 70s, I think was
- 23:33Speaker 2: really a great time. And I was thinking of Harold
- 23:37Speaker 2: and Maude when Cat Stevens did the whole soundtrack. And
- 23:41Speaker 2: it's so effective when they did that, you know, just
- 23:45Speaker 2: to have, it was kind of a, I don't know,
- 23:47Speaker 2: it just became like a character in the movie.
- 23:49Speaker 6: Well, if you want to sing out, sing out. And
- 23:53Speaker 6: if you want to be free, be free. There's a
- 23:57Speaker 6: million things to be. You know that there are. And
- 24:04Speaker 6: if you want to live high, live high. And if
- 24:08Speaker 6: you want to live low, live low.
- 24:11Speaker 15: There's a million ways to go.
- 24:14Speaker 6: You know that there are. You can do what you want.
- 24:23Speaker 15: The opportunity's on And if you find a new way.
- 24:30Speaker 13: You can do it today.
- 24:34Speaker 6: You can make it all true And you can make
- 24:38Speaker 6: it undue You see Ah, it's easy Ah, you only
- 24:49Speaker 6: need to know Well if you want to say yes,
- 24:55Speaker 6: say yes And if you want to say no, say
- 24:59Speaker 6: no Cause there's a million ways to go You know
- 25:04Speaker 6: that there are And if you want to be me,
- 25:09Speaker 6: be me And if you want to be you, be.
- 25:13Speaker 15: You Cause there's a million things to do You know
- 25:18Speaker 15: that there are You can do what you want The
- 25:27Speaker 15: opportunity's on And if you find a new way You
- 25:34Speaker 15: can do it today You can make it all true.
- 25:41Speaker 8: And you can make it undue You see.
- 25:46Speaker 6: Ah, it's easy Ah, you own me me to know
- 25:56Speaker 6: well if you want to sing out sing out and
- 26:00Speaker 6: if you want to be free be free cause there's
- 26:04Speaker 6: a million things to be you know that there are
- 26:08Speaker 6: you know that there are you know that there are
- 26:10Speaker 6: you know that there are you know that there are.
- 26:22Speaker 2: I loved all those songs, and I loved The Graduate,
- 26:27Speaker 2: Simon and Garfunkel. Once again, they pretty much did the
- 26:30Speaker 2: soundtrack for the movie and Mrs. Robinson, and they just
- 26:35Speaker 2: worked together just famously.
- 26:37Speaker 4: ¶ ¶ ¶ ¶ And it's to you, Mrs.
- 27:10Speaker 13: Robinson Jesus loves you.
- 27:12Speaker 11: More than you.
- 27:14Speaker 4: Will know Whoa.
- 27:16Speaker 11: Whoa, whoa.
- 27:20Speaker 13: God bless you, please, Mrs.
- 27:22Speaker 11: Robinson.
- 27:24Speaker 4: Heaven holds a place for.
- 27:28Speaker 11: Those who pray. Hey, hey, hey. Hey, hey, hey.
- 27:36Speaker 16: We'd like to know a little bit about you for
- 27:41Speaker 16: our lives. We'd like to help you learn to help yourself.
- 27:48Speaker 16: Look around you, all you see are sympathetic eyes. Stroll
- 27:55Speaker 16: around the grounds until you feel at home.
- 27:59Speaker 13: And here's to you, Mrs. Robinson.
- 28:02Speaker 16: Jesus loves you more than you will know.
- 28:05Speaker 12: Whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 28:09Speaker 1: God bless you, please, Mrs.
- 28:11Speaker 4: Robinson Heaven holds a place for those who pray Hey.
- 28:17Speaker 11: Hey, hey Hey, hey, hey.
- 28:22Speaker 4: Hide it in a hiding place where no one.
- 28:26Speaker 13: Ever goes Put it.
- 28:28Speaker 4: In your pantry with your cupcakes.
- 28:38Speaker 13: It's a little secret, just the Robinson's.
- 28:41Speaker 11: Are there Most of.
- 28:45Speaker 16: All, you've got to hide it from the kids Cuckoo, ca-choo, Mrs.
- 28:50Speaker 13: Robinson Jesus loves.
- 28:53Speaker 4: You more than you will know Whoa, whoa, whoa God
- 28:59Speaker 4: bless you, please, Mrs. Robinson Cap'n holds the place for
- 29:04Speaker 4: those who pray.
- 29:07Speaker 11: Hey, hey, hey. Hey, hey, hey.
- 29:14Speaker 4: Sitting on a sofa on a Sunday afternoon.
- 29:21Speaker 16: Going to a candidate's debate. Laugh about it, shout about
- 29:30Speaker 16: it when you've got to choose.
- 29:34Speaker 13: Every way you look at the shoes.
- 29:38Speaker 11: Where have you gone?
- 29:40Speaker 13: Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio?
- 29:43Speaker 4: Our nation turns its lonely eyes to you.
- 29:49Speaker 13: What's that you say, Mrs.
- 29:51Speaker 11: Robinson?
- 29:52Speaker 4: Joe DiMaggio has nothing on the way.
- 29:57Speaker 11: Hey, hey, hey Plastics.
- 30:25Speaker 8: It's interesting when artists do that. You only see that
- 30:28Speaker 8: every once in a while when the director will pair
- 30:31Speaker 8: themselves with a musical artist and have them do the
- 30:34Speaker 8: entire soundtrack. Sometimes they'll compose the score or sometimes they'll
- 30:38Speaker 8: just do singer-songwriter stuff.
- 30:42Speaker 2: I was thinking more of the singer-songwriter and that brought
- 30:44Speaker 2: to mind Eddie Vedder's Into the Wild, which I thought
- 30:49Speaker 2: once again was really effective. Just to have one visionary
- 30:53Speaker 2: guy I'm into the songs.
- 30:56Speaker 8: A fan of him on both ends in his band
- 30:58Speaker 8: and in that solo. He's very different in his solos.
- 31:01Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. I actually prefer, I think, the solo stuff.
- 31:04Speaker 8: The ukulele stuff?
- 31:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I like it. I like when he goes small.
- 31:09Speaker 2: I like when he goes small.
- 31:10Speaker 9: That's cool.
- 31:11Speaker 2: Really, really great guy, too. I've had a chance to
- 31:14Speaker 2: hang with Eddie a few times, and he's quite a
- 31:17Speaker 2: magnanimous individual.
- 31:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 31:28Speaker 17: When I walk beside her I am the better man.
- 31:35Speaker 18: When I look to leave her I always stagger back again.
- 31:42Speaker 17: Once I built an ivory tower So I could worship from.
- 31:46Speaker 18: Above When I climbed down to be set free She
- 31:52Speaker 18: took me in again.
- 31:53Speaker 13: There's a beat A big hot sun beating.
- 32:01Speaker 4: On the big people in a big hot world.
- 32:08Speaker 18: When she comes to greet me, she is mercy at
- 32:13Speaker 18: my feet.
- 32:15Speaker 17: When I see her pin her charm, she just throws
- 32:19Speaker 17: it back at me.
- 32:22Speaker 18: Once I dug in her grave to find a better land.
- 32:29Speaker 17: She just smiled and laughed at me and took her
- 32:32Speaker 17: bruise back again.
- 32:33Speaker 19: There's a big, a big hard sun beating on the
- 32:41Speaker 19: big people in the big hard world.
- 32:48Speaker 11: Oh, there's a big, When.
- 33:06Speaker 17: I go to cross that river, she is comfort by
- 33:13Speaker 17: my side.
- 33:15Speaker 1: When I try to.
- 33:16Speaker 17: Understand, she just opens up her hands.
- 33:24Speaker 4: .
- 33:25Speaker 11: .
- 33:27Speaker 13: Once I stood to lose.
- 33:55Speaker 4: Her When I saw what I had.
- 34:00Speaker 18: Done Bound down and flew away The hours of her
- 34:19Speaker 18: garden and her sun So I tried to warn her
- 34:25Speaker 18: I turned to see her weep Forty days and forty
- 34:31Speaker 18: nights And it's still coming down, babe There's a big,
- 34:37Speaker 18: a big hard sun Beating on the big people In the.
- 34:45Speaker 4: Big hard world Hard as a pig A big.
- 34:52Speaker 10: Hard son Beating on the big people.

- 37:05Speaker 3: incomparable Boris Karloff.

- 37:09Speaker 3: In the role he was born to play, The Terror,

- 39:37Speaker 20: you're on ten on your guitar.
- 39:39Speaker 9: Where can you go from there?
- 39:40Speaker 20: Well, I don't know where exactly what we.
- 39:43Speaker 13: Do is if we need that extra Push over the cliff.
- 39:47Speaker 12: You know what we do?
- 39:48Speaker 9: Put it up to 11. Exactly.
- 39:50Speaker 2: One louder. Why don't you just make 10 louder and
- 39:52Speaker 2: make 10 be the top number and make that a
- 39:55Speaker 2: little louder?
- 39:59Speaker 9: These go to 11.
- 40:00Speaker 2: I don't know what counts, but the spinal tap for
- 40:02Speaker 2: me was huge.
- 40:04Speaker 8: Any specific?
- 40:05Speaker 2: Well, Hell Hole was a big one.
- 40:28Speaker 21: I ain't got no future I ain't got no past
- 40:36Speaker 21: And I don't think I ever.
- 40:40Speaker 11: Can The floor.
- 40:44Speaker 21: Is filthy The walls are thin The wind is howling
- 40:49Speaker 21: in my face The lights are beating I'm.
- 40:55Speaker 14: Losing ground Can't see the jargon.
- 41:01Speaker 11: Yeah!
- 41:30Speaker 21: I roll the jet stream I hit the top.
- 41:34Speaker 11: I hear it's taking lots of tails.
- 41:38Speaker 14: The sun is dropping The food's too hot The kitchen's
- 41:43Speaker 14: stinking full of snails The tax is gone The butler
- 41:49Speaker 14: quit The.
- 41:51Speaker 13: Same way to be a man.
- 41:55Speaker 11: I'm going back Yeah. Yeah.
- 43:13Speaker 8: So that, I guess, is about four. Oh, that's about four.
- 43:17Speaker 8: Do we got one more to round this out?
- 43:18Speaker 2: Well, I just want to send, I guess, tonight I'm
- 43:21Speaker 2: going to rock you.
- 43:43Speaker 3: Girl, it's a great big world, but there's only one
- 43:45Speaker 3: of me.
- 43:45Speaker 5: You can't touch me cause I cost too much.
- 43:47Speaker 11: Tonight I'm gonna rock you.
- 43:48Speaker 8: Tonight I'm gonna rock you.
- 43:51Speaker 4: Tonight I'm gonna rock you.
- 43:53Speaker 11: Tonight I'm gonna rock you.
- 43:55Speaker 4: Tonight. You're sweet, but you're.
- 44:06Speaker 14: Just four feet and you still got your baby teeth.
- 44:12Speaker 11: We'll be right back.
- 45:12Speaker 21: Take off, we've got another drop of seed in the.
- 45:17Speaker 1: House Next day we'll be on our way But tonight
- 45:19Speaker 1: we're gonna rock it.
- 45:20Speaker 3: Tonight we're gonna rock it Tonight we're gonna rock it
- 45:22Speaker 3: Tonight we're gonna rock it.
- 45:23Speaker 2: Tonight It was just hugely influential for me. I mean,
- 45:58Speaker 2: I can remember wanting to see it, going to the
- 46:00Speaker 2: theater and just sort of like, oh my God, these
- 46:03Speaker 2: guys have done what you wished you could do. It's like, wow.
- 46:06Speaker 2: I mean, that's, it almost kind of ruined me in
- 46:08Speaker 2: a way because like, oh my God, how you can't
- 46:11Speaker 2: do it any better.
- 46:11Speaker 8: Well, and I mean, as far as again, back to groundbreaking, like,
- 46:15Speaker 8: I mean, that was mockumentary when nobody knew what that was. Like,
- 46:18Speaker 8: so many decades before people started doing that regularly.
- 46:22Speaker 2: Yeah, 84, I believe.
- 46:23Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, Rob Reiner, now, nobody really pays much
- 46:26Speaker 8: attention to him, but at the time, I mean, that
- 46:28Speaker 8: was amazing. And I think probably on both ends, you know, he...
- 46:33Speaker 8: probably made a lot of people want to join bands,
- 46:35Speaker 8: and at the same time made people kind of want
- 46:37Speaker 8: to be filmmakers.
- 46:37Speaker 2: I never thought of that. Was that the first sort
- 46:40Speaker 2: of mockumentary?
- 46:41Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 46:42Speaker 8: I mean, it kind of. I mean, there was probably something.
- 46:44Speaker 2: We're so used to the form now.
- 46:45Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 46:46Speaker 2: Now I think about it. But yeah, it definitely just hit.
- 46:49Speaker 2: It was just perfect. It was just perfect. And it's,
- 46:53Speaker 2: once again, time is the true test, and it really
- 46:56Speaker 2: is timeless. I mean, you watch it today, and it
- 46:58Speaker 2: holds up perfectly.
- 47:00Speaker 9: Definitely.
- 47:01Speaker 12: Well.
- 47:03Speaker 8: The only other just while we're on the music one
- 47:05Speaker 8: thing I had to ask because I have I've seen
- 47:08Speaker 8: you guys before and it was it was one of
- 47:10Speaker 8: those actually a whole group of us got together and
- 47:12Speaker 8: we went and we got our tickets we had to
- 47:14Speaker 8: buy them for the real band you guys were opening
- 47:18Speaker 8: for unfortunately so people are always questioned when I tell
- 47:21Speaker 8: them I've been to a Kid Rock show yeah what
- 47:23Speaker 8: was it like touring with Kid Rock well I.
- 47:27Speaker 2: Mean this was before I knew he was a grody
- 47:30Speaker 2: republican yeah I.
- 47:32Speaker 8: Don't think he told anybody at that point.
- 47:34Speaker 13: No.
- 47:34Speaker 8: He was busy being a fake redneck.
- 47:36Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 47:37Speaker 2: Is he a fake redneck?
- 47:39Speaker 8: I think he came from money, and it's funny. All
- 47:41Speaker 8: of his songs are straight out the trailer park.
- 47:43Speaker 2: He's a trustafarian as well. But you know what? Bobby
- 47:48Speaker 2: is his real name, and couldn't have been a nicer dude. Yeah.
- 47:52Speaker 2: Couldn't have been a nicer dude.
- 47:53Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 47:53Speaker 2: I mean, you don't really... And I don't think anyone
- 47:55Speaker 2: stands up and talks about they're a big fan of
- 47:58Speaker 2: Kid Rock, but... But yeah, he was a great guy.
- 48:02Speaker 8: It was an interesting dynamic, too, because he, I mean,
- 48:05Speaker 8: he was, that was kind of the height of his,
- 48:08Speaker 8: you know, he was probably hitting downhill after that album.
- 48:10Speaker 8: So he was, that was sort of the height of
- 48:12Speaker 8: his career.
- 48:13Speaker 2: Yeah, he was huge.
- 48:14Speaker 8: He was, yeah. And, like, seeing him, he had a
- 48:16Speaker 8: massive set. It was, again, a trailer park he built
- 48:20Speaker 8: on stage.
- 48:20Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 48:21Speaker 8: And it was just, like, huge and had the pyrotechnics
- 48:24Speaker 8: and had, like, all kinds of stuff going on.
- 48:26Speaker 2: And, like, a Bud Light sign, too.
- 48:28Speaker 8: Oh, yeah, of course. Got to work that in there.
- 48:30Speaker 2: Well, it's not really of course. You have to take
- 48:33Speaker 2: the money and basically sell beer.
- 48:35Speaker 8: I'm sure he would have gladly taken a Bud Light.
- 48:37Speaker 8: Early enough, he probably would have taken one as a trade,
- 48:39Speaker 8: you know. That's my payment. I get this neon sign
- 48:42Speaker 8: that says Bud on it.
- 48:43Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 48:45Speaker 8: And then to juxtapose that with you guys, as you
- 48:48Speaker 8: walk out, it was just you and the guitar and
- 48:50Speaker 8: Jack and a mic. You had no set with you.
- 48:54Speaker 8: You brought no other.
- 48:56Speaker 2: Well, when you're opening, you don't really bring a set
- 48:58Speaker 2: with you.
- 48:58Speaker 8: I've still seen people that do a little something extra
- 49:02Speaker 8: or even bring other members into the band. It was
- 49:06Speaker 8: just you guys, and you walked out.
- 49:07Speaker 2: Well, it's definitely been part of our... Sort of our.
- 49:13Speaker 2: Our shtick, what have you. It's just two guys, two acoustics,
- 49:17Speaker 2: and then, you know, we bring in.
- 49:21Speaker 8: I'd say so, because that's the thing. We went to
- 49:23Speaker 8: see you guys, and that's where the money was spent,
- 49:25Speaker 8: as far as I'm concerned. We sort of hung around
- 49:28Speaker 8: and watched Kid Rock, but it was paled in comparison.
- 49:31Speaker 9: It was kind of sad.
- 49:31Speaker 2: Well, thank you, Brian. That's awfully nice of you to say.
- 49:35Speaker 1: Oh, man.
- 49:35Speaker 8: Do you have any new projects you want to tell
- 49:38Speaker 8: people about, as far as on any front, I guess?
- 49:40Speaker 8: You've got a lot of different stuff.
- 49:41Speaker 2: Well, the KGB, of course, is what we're doing right now.
- 49:46Speaker 2: We just came out with our debut album, Go to
- 49:48Speaker 2: Kyle Gass Band. uh.com somewhere or facebook or something and
- 49:53Speaker 2: look us up and also the big thing we got
- 49:55Speaker 2: in the d world is we're doing a comedy festival
- 49:58Speaker 2: at the santa monica pier october 19th and uh we've
- 50:04Speaker 2: been trying to get this together for a couple years
- 50:05Speaker 2: now and it's finally it's finally happening and uh We're
- 50:10Speaker 2: just super excited about it. We have an amazing lineup.
- 50:14Speaker 2: It's us and Mr. Show and Tim and Eric. And
- 50:20Speaker 2: we've got the Mighty Boosh.
- 50:21Speaker 4: Oh, man.
- 50:22Speaker 2: Yeah. And Adam Sandler, Sarah Silverman, Zach Galifianakis, just to
- 50:27Speaker 2: name a few. And it's just kind of an epic,
- 50:31Speaker 2: epic lineup. And I think it's really, really going to
- 50:34Speaker 2: be a special day.
- 50:35Speaker 8: That's an impressive lineup. And when is that?
- 50:37Speaker 2: October 19th. Santa Monica Pier.
- 50:40Speaker 9: Cool.
- 50:40Speaker 2: Festival Supreme.
- 50:42Speaker 8: Is there anywhere online to tell people to go?
- 50:44Speaker 2: Go to festivalsupreme.com.
- 50:47Speaker 8: And your website? You want to plug that too?
- 50:49Speaker 2: Kyle Gas Band.
- 50:51Speaker 8: All right.
- 50:52Speaker 2: Everything's available on Googles. Barney Googles.
- 50:56Speaker 8: Finds everything.
- 50:57Speaker 2: Yes, it does. What did we do before that?
- 50:59Speaker 8: I don't know. I kind of think sometimes. I'm like,
- 51:02Speaker 8: I don't think we could run the world without the
- 51:04Speaker 8: internet now.
- 51:05Speaker 2: But we could. Well, we couldn't now.
- 51:07Speaker 8: Not anymore, yeah.
- 51:08Speaker 2: No, not anymore. People would freak out.
- 51:11Speaker 8: Like, what?
- 51:12Speaker 2: It's funny.
- 51:13Speaker 8: Somebody posted recently, they were talking about writers, and they
- 51:15Speaker 8: were like, oh, writers probably got so much more work
- 51:18Speaker 8: done before there was an internet to also be connected
- 51:21Speaker 8: to when you're supposed.
- 51:22Speaker 1: To be writing.
- 51:23Speaker 2: I think writers always wait until the last minute.
- 51:26Speaker 8: Yeah. Probably all artists.
- 51:28Speaker 2: How's this going?
- 51:30Speaker 8: Pretty good. We've, we've had an amazing lineup of guests
- 51:34Speaker 8: over the years and we've, we've, yeah, we've, we're, we're still,
- 51:37Speaker 8: it's so hard finding the audience for that same reason though.
- 51:40Speaker 8: It's like, we've got, you know, the hardcore people that
- 51:41Speaker 8: have always been there, but like finding new people is like,
- 51:45Speaker 8: it's just, there's so much out there now.
- 51:47Speaker 11: Right.
- 51:47Speaker 8: You're fighting to get, which, you know, it's true in
- 51:50Speaker 8: every part of the arts.
- 51:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:52Speaker 8: Every band. There's a million other bands. Every movie. There's
- 51:55Speaker 8: 40 other people making a movie kind of like yours.
- 51:57Speaker 2: There's just too many people. And it's time to really
- 51:59Speaker 2: thin the herd.
- 51:59Speaker 8: We need a war. Isn't that what they say? You
- 52:02Speaker 8: need a good war to thin out the herd.
- 52:04Speaker 15: Maybe a plague.
- 52:05Speaker 8: Oh, zombies.
- 52:05Speaker 2: There you go. Zombie plague. Well, dude, thanks so much
- 52:09Speaker 2: for having me.
- 52:10Speaker 8: Thank you for sitting in with us. Yeah, it's been
- 52:12Speaker 8: a lot of fun.
- 52:12Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
- 52:28Speaker 8: Alright, we are back. And once again, I would like
- 52:30Speaker 8: to say thank you to Kyle for sitting in as
- 52:32Speaker 8: our special guest this week. Really interesting picks, too, as
- 52:35Speaker 8: far as songs. I mean, you kind of saw those
- 52:37Speaker 8: last ones coming, but the earlier ones, yeah, I didn't
- 52:41Speaker 8: really know where he would go. So that's kind of
- 52:43Speaker 8: why I like doing these things that are a little off.
- 52:45Speaker 8: You know, just having movie discussions with people or having
- 52:48Speaker 8: them pick songs. You sort of get a little insight
- 52:51Speaker 8: that maybe you wouldn't get just your standard interview. I
- 52:54Speaker 8: think you get something extra in something like that where
- 52:57Speaker 8: you actually just have a normal conversation and talk about
- 53:00Speaker 8: what movies you like or what music you listen to.
- 53:03Speaker 8: So that was definitely true with Kyle and I wanted
- 53:05Speaker 8: to thank him once again for sitting in. The stuff
- 53:07Speaker 8: he's got in the works, go to festivalsupreme.com and check
- 53:11Speaker 8: that out in October. And just in general, go to thekylegasband.com
- 53:16Speaker 8: to see what he's got in the works as far
- 53:18Speaker 8: as where he'll be playing next. And once again, we
- 53:21Speaker 8: would like to say thanks to Lebowski Fest for letting
- 53:23Speaker 8: me hang around and talk to Kyle and just loiter
- 53:26Speaker 8: around here on the outskirts of the festival. So they
- 53:29Speaker 8: are at lebowskifest.com, and definitely you don't have to be
- 53:34Speaker 8: here to experience it. They have branched out. It is
- 53:38Speaker 8: amazing what this thing has grown into. You could never
- 53:42Speaker 8: imagine just pitching the idea of what this festival is
- 53:46Speaker 8: and then watching how it's grown over the years. I
- 53:50Speaker 8: did a basic count, and they have gone to 22
- 53:53Speaker 8: different cities.
- 53:55Speaker 8: To do this festival that that I mean it's it's
- 53:58Speaker 8: amazing how much it has grown and how many different
- 54:01Speaker 8: people they've involved over the years and just it's it's
- 54:04Speaker 8: an impressive feat to have put this together from nothing
- 54:07Speaker 8: from just an idea that they had and decided to
- 54:10Speaker 8: throw together with their friends and now so many years
- 54:12Speaker 8: later it's just gotten bigger and bigger and the following
- 54:14Speaker 8: continues to grow so if you're one of those people
- 54:18Speaker 8: or interested in becoming one of those people it is LebowskiFest.com
- 54:22Speaker 8: and go see what they've got in the works.
- 54:24Speaker 4: Are you done?
- 54:25Speaker 8: All right, so I think that will wrap up this episode.
- 54:28Speaker 8: But we will go out once again. I mean, we
- 54:31Speaker 8: have to pay tribute to the man who sat in
- 54:33Speaker 8: with us this episode. And of course, with a song
- 54:35Speaker 8: from their movie. I mean, when you're a band and
- 54:38Speaker 8: they give you your own movie, you got to make
- 54:40Speaker 8: that happen. So yeah, we are going to play one
- 54:42Speaker 8: from Pick of Destiny. And we'll just go out with
- 54:45Speaker 8: the title track. I think that seems to represent it
- 54:47Speaker 8: just fine. So thanks once again to Kyle. And with that,
- 54:50Speaker 8: I will remind you once again, get a life. We'll
- 54:53Speaker 8: provide the soundtrack.
- 54:54Speaker 2: Because it's a play.
- 54:56Speaker 9: A distance.
- 55:07Speaker 13: In Venice Beach, there was a man named Cage.
- 55:13Speaker 9: When he was busking, he was.
- 55:15Speaker 11: Out of the rage.
- 55:17Speaker 9: He met the tables and it taught him well.
- 55:21Speaker 3: All the techniques that were developed in hell.
- 55:25Speaker 6: Cocked push-ups and the power slide.
- 55:27Speaker 3: Stick simulation, now there's nowhere to hide.
- 55:31Speaker 13: They formed a band, they named Tenacious Tenacious. And then
- 55:36Speaker 13: they got to pick a destiny.
- 55:38Speaker 11: Cause it's the best.
- 55:41Speaker 13: A destiny child.
- 55:42Speaker 11: You know it will be rocking.
- 55:44Speaker 15: Cause it's fucking insane.
- 55:46Speaker 11: Cause it's the best.
- 55:48Speaker 13: A destiny child.
- 55:50Speaker 6: Artistic grooves are better than a chicken chow mein.
- 55:53Speaker 13: Cause he who is sleazy is easy to please. And
- 55:57Speaker 13: she who is juicy must be loosey goosey. And he
- 56:01Speaker 13: who is groovy The wizard and the demon had a
- 56:10Speaker 13: battle royale.
- 56:12Speaker 2: The demon almost killed him with an evil kapow.
- 56:15Speaker 13: But then he broke.
- 56:17Speaker 8: His tooth and thus the demon set out.
- 56:19Speaker 11: It's a play.
- 56:21Speaker 13: A destiny child. You know it will be right. You
- 56:31Speaker 13: know our movie's better than a citizen came.
- 56:34Speaker 9: Cause he who's a geezer must live.
- 56:36Speaker 11: In my freezer.
- 56:38Speaker 13: And she who is stocky is full of malarkey.
- 56:41Speaker 11: And he who is.
- 56:42Speaker 13: Goofy must be in my movie.
- 56:44Speaker 11: So count on me.
- 57:00Speaker 7: Your hygiene's fairly good, right?
- 57:04Speaker 11: I try to control.
- 57:05Speaker 13: Myself a little bit.
- 57:25Speaker 4: This episode is a production of Movie Meltdown.
