- 0:49Speaker 2: Hey, Greg, I love your breakdown of the defense. I
- 0:53was kind of wondering with your hot tampbell kind of
- 0:57the range and instincts that he showed you. You see
- 1:00like them doing something differently to kind of make up
- 1:03for some of the deficiencies on the back end as
- 1:05far as like still not knowing and the number two
- 1:07is with the Dory kind of struggling, like when they
- 1:10have two ranging linebackers, what can they do to cover
- 1:13some of that up.
- 1:13Speaker 3: If those guys can handle more, well, you can't really
- 1:16make up for corners who outside the numbers. So you
- 1:19know that I mean, if you're talking about stuff inside,
- 1:22possibly so yeah, and we'll see it's game one, you know.
- 1:27I think I think they knew when they brought in
- 1:30Bennett that they probably were a little uncertain about a
- 1:34Dori Jackson, because I think it's been pretty clear that
- 1:36they don't believe that Kailee Ringo is good enough to
- 1:39be the starter or he'd be the Starughter at this point.
- 1:42We'll see how it continues. But you can't really in
- 1:46the context of a defense. You can't really make up
- 1:49for your corners with your linebackers. That's just not really possible.
- 1:53Speaker 4: My question for you is, and again we didn't get
- 1:55to hear the offensive side, so I want to ask
- 1:57you about the offensive line. I thought Lane or Lane,
- 2:01I thought Jordan my Latte and Landon Dickerson from the
- 2:04naked eye, looked like they kind of struggled, and I
- 2:06wanted to get your thoughts on how, especially the left
- 2:09side of the offensive line played it.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Well.
- 2:11Speaker 3: It's funny you say that, Frank, because I actually thought
- 2:13that Cam Jurgens was the guy who struggled the most.
- 2:16I even thought Lane Johnson had some tough snaps and
- 2:18pass protection, which is very rare to see. It was
- 2:21not the best performance by the offensive line. You know,
- 2:24it's week one. They won the game. If you could
- 2:28argue that this game was very similar to the way
- 2:30they played a year ago, so in many ways offensively,
- 2:34even though the old line did not have a great game, overall,
- 2:38it was kind of the way the Eagles play. I
- 2:40mean they you know, they rarely throw for a ton
- 2:43of yards.
- 2:44Speaker 5: So what do you what do you think about our
- 2:47other rookie at safety? How do you think he played
- 2:50the Sunday excuse me Thursday?
- 2:54Speaker 3: Yes, I thought maccoba played well. You know. The one
- 2:59thing about McCook and do you notice this in college
- 3:02and this translates, is he just sees the game fast.
- 3:06He's really good playing downhill. He's got an incredibly quick trigger,
- 3:10he understands route concepts. He's just one of those guys,
- 3:13that's who he is. But he's a good player.
- 3:16Speaker 5: Did you see the blown coverage that Vick was talking
- 3:20about this morning? He was saying that he had a
- 3:23couple of blown coverages.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Did you see that. I'd have to know the play
- 3:27only because he could be talking about blown coverages on
- 3:30plays where you know you and how coaches are it
- 3:33could be on plays where nothing nothing happened, and you know,
- 3:37so I don't know those plays. And if nothing happened
- 3:41on the play that was a big play, so to speak,
- 3:44you know, I might not know it was a blown coverage.
- 3:47Speaker 5: Okay, Okay, you're saying, so it could have been where
- 3:51he wanted him to be and he wasn't there, no
- 3:53matter if the ball was thrown to him or not correct.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Correct, Okay, thank you. I'm concerned about A. J. Brown's
- 3:59health like Glenn him South with his knees. Have you
- 4:02seen anything in the tape to say maybe he's losing
- 4:04a step or we should be concerned. So I don't
- 4:06know the answer to that, Dan, to be honest with you,
- 4:08I mean, I don't know. You know, guys want to play,
- 4:11so you know, I don't you know, there have been
- 4:13games in his career here where AJ Brown has not
- 4:16been targeted, and then he usually lets someone know about
- 4:18it and then he gets targeted. So one game, I'm
- 4:21not willing to say that there's something wrong, you know,
- 4:24the way this game kind of played out, But I
- 4:27can't imagine that AJ Brown is going to have one
- 4:29target against the Chiefs on Sunday.
- 4:32Speaker 5: So I wanted to ask you, you know, we're looking
- 4:35at the tape, did you see anything good, bad, and different.
- 4:39Speaker 3: From cal Katara and Grandson. Well, I would say this,
- 4:42and they'll know this, and it'll be interesting to see
- 4:44what they do going forward. Is Calcatara, they played a
- 4:47lot of twelve personnel and they asked him to block
- 4:49as an attached tight end, and he was not very
- 4:51good at it. In fact, he had three or four
- 4:53plays where he was bad at it. So Grandson will
- 4:56not be asked to be an inline blocker. He's never
- 4:59been that guy. Not big enough. They had twenty one
- 5:01plays in twelve personnel and thirty plays and eleven personnel.
- 5:05Now that when it's week one, you never know if
- 5:08that's specific to an opponent. You never know if that's
- 5:11the way they want to play. You don't know that
- 5:13until they get further into this season. But you know,
- 5:17they could look at Calcutar and say he just had
- 5:19a bad game, or they could look at Calcuatar and say,
- 5:22you know what, he's not really the guy we want
- 5:24blocking defensive ends in the run game. And we will
- 5:27know the answer to that mark until you know, we
- 5:29get to you know, next game, because you know what
- 5:31he's going to be playing against guys like Carloftis, you
- 5:34know on Sunday, and Carloftis is a very good player
- 5:38and a very physical player. You know, even Mark Dana
- 5:41is a very physical player. Even though he's not super big,
- 5:44he's very physical. So we'll get an idea of how
- 5:47they see that. On Sunday he had a Hunt on
- 5:51Smith pulled up as starters for the first time, kind
- 5:54of full time starters that they look like the g
- 5:56Handla Load or they look like they were rough states
- 5:58that we kind of I think they're counting on Smith
- 6:02because he came on last year. There'll be games where
- 6:05he's not a big factor just because he's smaller, and
- 6:08there'll be games where just the physicality could eat him
- 6:10up a little bit. He did have some good pass
- 6:13rushes on Steel in this game. You know, I think
- 6:17they've told you that Jaylex Hunt is not quite ready
- 6:20to be that guy because they played josh Usha twenty
- 6:23snaps and he flashed throughout the game, and they signed
- 6:26this week Zadarius Smith. So I think they're telling you
- 6:29that they believe that that Hunt's not quite ready to
- 6:33be that guy. On the edge, and don't forget Carter
- 6:35wasn't in there, so they played with three defensive tackles.
- 6:39Jomo did not have a really good game. I know
- 6:42he had a really good camp, and I don't think
- 6:43this will mean that they're not going to play in
- 6:45meaningful snaps, but he did not have a really good game.
- 6:49So and I think the other d tackles they probably
- 6:51don't really feel are ready to play meaningful snaps. You know,
- 6:56It'll be interesting to see what happens with Jordan Davis
- 6:59because with Carter back, Davis played fifty three snaps, which
- 7:03was the second most snaps he's ever played in the NFL.
- 7:06And my guess is they did not anticipate him doing
- 7:09that if Carter was playing. But Davis played at such
- 7:12a high level and even showed some good pass rush,
- 7:15they may feel that, hey, we can play him forty
- 7:18forty five snaps and we can use him on third down.
- 7:20You know, I guess we'll see how that goes. But
- 7:24I think they're telling you. Teams sort of tell you
- 7:26how they feel about players in what they do and
- 7:29how they use their players. So the fact that they
- 7:31signed two things, the fact that US played so many
- 7:34snaps and the fact that they signed to Darius Smith,
- 7:37I think tells you that they're a little uncertain about
- 7:39Jay Alex Hunt right now as a pass rusher.
- 7:42Speaker 6: You know, I've heard a lot about Adora Jackson getting cooked.
- 7:46Speaker 3: I mean, see it or was that the worst of it?
- 7:48Speaker 6: Because I'm thinking, you know, Kansas City probably doesn't have
- 7:53I know, they don't have somebody as good as Ceedee Lamb.
- 7:55You know, is a Doory going to be serviceable if
- 7:57he's going against somebody or you know, is this gonna
- 8:01be Are we gonna be seeing that, you know, more
- 8:04of this every game until we find our of replacement
- 8:07for him.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Well, the way I'd answer that is this, first of all,
- 8:09I do watch every play, and you have to understand
- 8:12that obviously not on every play to corners, even if
- 8:15they're struggling at times when they get beat on every play,
- 8:17that just doesn't happen. Just like an offensive lineman if
- 8:21he struggling and he doesn't get beat on sixty five plays.
- 8:24But I won't think Kansas City. You know, in this
- 8:27game against the Cowboys, the Eagles clearly made a decision
- 8:30that they were going to have Mitchell for the most
- 8:32part travel with George Pickens. Now, I'm obviously not in
- 8:37the meeting rooms with Vic Fangio, but my guess is
- 8:39there's not likely a Chiefs wide out that they would
- 8:43think that Mitchell has to travel. Now, again, I don't
- 8:45know that, but that would be my guess. So the
- 8:49Cowboys had two really tough wide receivers. Pickens is, you know,
- 8:54let's put aside what we've read about his character and
- 8:57all that. I don't care about that. I'm not talking
- 8:59about that in terms of pure physical traits, is probably
- 9:03a top seven to eight receiver in the league. And
- 9:05then you got Ceedee Lamb, who may well be a
- 9:07top five receiver. So with Dori Jackson often had to
- 9:11match up, not all the time because Lamb does line
- 9:13up in the slot, but when Lamb did line up
- 9:15outside in specific situations, Dori Jackson had to match up
- 9:19to him. That's not a great matchup for a dory.
- 9:23Is he going to get beat every single time? No,
- 9:25but it's not a really good matchup. And there were
- 9:27certain plays that the Cowboys handled really well, like that
- 9:30third and one where the thirty four yard are down
- 9:33inside the red zone. It was third and one. They
- 9:36shifted or motioned lamb tighter to the formation. They gave
- 9:39him a two way go a Dori Jackson was kind
- 9:42of stuck. That's a tough cover right there. So you know,
- 9:46is he going to get beat by everybody all the time. No,
- 9:49of course not. They'll decide how they feel about his
- 9:53overall play. You know, unless Jeff, you have other information.
- 9:56It's only Twesday, obviously, you know, I assume he'll still
- 10:00be the starter on Sunday. We don't know that, but
- 10:02that would be my guess. All right, guys, thanks so much.
- 10:05We'll do to it next week. Appreciate it. Greg, thank you,
- 10:08thanks for appreciate it.
