- 0:00Speaker 1: Toby and Chili mornings on demand on 97.1 Wash FM.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Thursday morning, 97.1 Wash FM. Welcome to Toby and Chili
- 0:11Speaker 2: in the morning on this brand new day as we
- 0:13Speaker 2: close in on the end of the week. You good
- 0:16Speaker 2: this morning? Why are you feeling good? Let us know because, look,
- 0:20Speaker 2: it's the first thing in the morning. It's a brand
- 0:21Speaker 2: new day. How can you not feel good about getting up?
- 0:24Speaker 2: and taking on a brand new day in whatever it
- 0:27Speaker 2: might have in store for you. So give us a
- 0:29Speaker 2: call and share what it is that is making you
- 0:31Speaker 2: feel good this morning. Chili, why are you feeling great today?
- 0:34Speaker 3: The final thing on the to-do list for my son's
- 0:37Speaker 3: birthday party this weekend is done.
- 0:40Speaker 4: The cake is ordered. The cake will be picked up
- 0:42Speaker 4: and all is well.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Then that means everything's perfect because what's a birthday without
- 0:47Speaker 2: a cake? Does your son have a certain cake that
- 0:50Speaker 2: he likes more than others?
- 0:52Speaker 5: No.
- 0:52Speaker 3: I mean, I'm just doing it like a pull apart cake,
- 0:55Speaker 3: you know, the cupcakes that look like a big cake.
- 0:57Speaker 3: It's just easier that way.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Kyla loved ice cream cakes. If, uh, if we were
- 1:02Speaker 2: having a birthday party for Kyla, it was not complete
- 1:05Speaker 2: unless my daughter had a ice cream cake of some sort.
- 1:10Speaker 2: And it didn't matter where it came from. Could have
- 1:12Speaker 2: been the grocery store. Could have been Baskin Robbins. Um,
- 1:16Speaker 2: memories enjoy this time this weekend. I'm feeling good because
- 1:20Speaker 2: unexpectedly yesterday, uh, I got a check for a significant
- 1:25Speaker 2: amount of money from the insurance company, from our health insurance.
- 1:30Speaker 2: I did not realize this, but they're like, apparently you,
- 1:34Speaker 2: I overpaid for certain services.
- 1:37Speaker 4: So it's your own money coming back.
- 1:38Speaker 2: So it's, yeah. So it's like they're reimbursing you, but
- 1:41Speaker 2: you know, you didn't really count on it, you know?
- 1:44Speaker 2: And it was money that, you know, I thought you
- 1:45Speaker 2: paid in bills and then boom, I open up the
- 1:47Speaker 2: letter and I'm like, Oh, this is not a bill.
- 1:50Speaker 2: And then I, I'm like, well, I guess I need
- 1:53Speaker 2: to go and deposit this online or something. So check
- 1:57Speaker 2: the snail mail every so often. Good things come in
- 2:00Speaker 2: the snail mail that aren't necessarily bills or, you know,
- 2:05Speaker 2: the circulars, which end up getting recycled. You know what
- 2:07Speaker 2: I mean? So expect something great today. Why not? Because
- 2:12Speaker 2: something great will come your way if you expect it. Now,
- 2:15Speaker 2: can the same be said about the news? Top stories
- 2:17Speaker 2: at the top of the hour coming up around five,
- 2:19Speaker 2: 10 ish.
- 2:19Speaker 6: Not sure.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Tilly, what can we expect?
- 2:23Speaker 3: The commanders have made some changes to their coaching staff
- 2:26Speaker 3: in an effort to fix their defense.
- 2:29Speaker 4: I've got all the details coming up.
- 2:34Speaker 5: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Iran says indirect talks with the U.S. are underway through
- 2:40Speaker 3: mediators as part of a proposed seven-day ceasefire.
- 2:43Speaker 4: Tehran wants the U.S.
- 2:45Speaker 3: To lift its naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz
- 2:47Speaker 3: and also release frozen Iranian assets. A Loudoun County judge
- 2:52Speaker 3: says that Bradford can represent himself against murder charges in
- 2:55Speaker 3: the September shooting death of his wife Lisa at their
- 2:58Speaker 3: Aldi home. Bradford is due back in court December 7th
- 3:02Speaker 3: for a preliminary hearing. University of Maryland has fired their
- 3:05Speaker 3: football coach Michael Loxley after five straight losses. He went
- 3:11Speaker 3: 38-49 in nearly eight seasons. Defensive coordinator Azhar Abdul-Rahim will
- 3:15Speaker 3: be serving as interim coach. Meanwhile, the Commanders have hired
- 3:20Speaker 3: former NFL head coach Steve Wilkes as a part-time defensive
- 3:25Speaker 3: assistant to help game plan as Washington looks to fix
- 3:28Speaker 3: a defense that's ranked 26th in the league. He's not
- 3:32Speaker 3: going to be on the sidelines, though, on game day.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Loudoun County has reached a deal with Amazon to replace
- 3:38Speaker 3: plans for four Ashburn data centers with a community art
- 3:42Speaker 3: center and indoor sports facility. Amazon's going to be donating
- 3:46Speaker 3: 25 acres worth $ 65 million and contribute $ 5 million to
- 3:51Speaker 3: the county's housing fund. And finally, according to a recent report,
- 3:56Speaker 3: Americans spent an average of $ 323 on lottery tickets back
- 4:01Speaker 3: in 2024. Massachusetts topped the nation with residents spending an
- 4:05Speaker 3: average of $ 904 each. But get this, Virginia had the
- 4:10Speaker 3: second highest spending on lottery tickets at $ 630 per person.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Forecast today, beautiful sunny skies, highs around 70, right now
- 4:20Speaker 3: 41 in Potomac.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Remember, you get the news. Top stories at the top
- 4:24Speaker 2: of the hour, right around 10 past each hour when
- 4:27Speaker 2: you get up with us. Toby and Tilly in the morning,
- 4:29Speaker 2: 97.1 Wash FM. Next look at news, right around 610
- 4:33Speaker 2: this morning. Give or take a couple of minutes. And
- 4:36Speaker 2: if you need some inspiration this morning as we get
- 4:38Speaker 2: into Thursday, your Thursday morning mindset. Words that hopefully will
- 4:43Speaker 2: help you as you get ready to take on this
- 4:45Speaker 2: new day, or if you're already into it, well, maybe
- 4:47Speaker 2: it'll help give you a little pick-me-up that you might need.
- 4:50Speaker 2: We'll get to that in a few. Good morning. Toby
- 4:54Speaker 2: and Chili in the morning on 97.1 Wash FM, and
- 4:57Speaker 2: it's time for us to pause on this Thursday morning.
- 4:59Speaker 2: to give you hopefully a little bit of inspiration to
- 5:02Speaker 2: take on a brand new day.
- 5:03Speaker 3: It's called Our Morning Mindset. We find a quote and
- 5:06Speaker 3: share it with you to think about as you take
- 5:08Speaker 3: on the rest of the day.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Annie Dillard says, Today, how we spend our days is,
- 5:13Speaker 2: of course, how we spend our lives. How we spend
- 5:17Speaker 2: our days, of course, is how we spend our lives.
- 5:20Speaker 2: So why does this quote from Annie Dillard matter this morning?
- 5:24Speaker 2: Because sometimes we're so busy trying to get through the
- 5:28Speaker 2: day that we forget that the day itself is a
- 5:31Speaker 2: part of life. Waiting on Friday, waiting on vacation, waiting
- 5:36Speaker 2: for things to slow down, waiting for a moment where
- 5:39Speaker 2: we can enjoy ourselves. But you know, here's the thing.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Our lives are not just those big moments we look
- 5:45Speaker 2: forward to. They're the little moments happening right now. So
- 5:48Speaker 2: enjoy your coffee. Enjoy talking with colleagues, friends. Enjoy the
- 5:53Speaker 2: little ones getting ready for school right now. That's really
- 5:56Speaker 2: what it's all about. Today is a day of your
- 5:59Speaker 2: life that you won't get back. Keep that in mind.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Annie Dillard. How we spend our days is, of course,
- 6:05Speaker 2: how we spend our lives. It's your morning mindset. If
- 6:07Speaker 2: you need it, get it again on demand. Toby and
- 6:09Speaker 2: Chili page. WatchFM.com. Check us out socially, too. You'll find
- 6:13Speaker 2: it right there. And stay close because coming up as
- 6:17Speaker 2: Toby and Chili in the morning continues.
- 6:19Speaker 3: At the beginning of the show, Toby and I talk
- 6:21Speaker 3: about why we're feeling good at the start of the day.
- 6:23Speaker 3: And we ask you to do the same. And it
- 6:25Speaker 3: looks like some of you have answered the call. So
- 6:28Speaker 3: to speak and we'll get to your feel good reasons
- 6:32Speaker 3: next week.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Till we get chilly in the morning, remember the number
- 6:35Speaker 2: is 866-927-4361. It's contagious, this thing called joy. So why
- 6:42Speaker 2: are you feeling good this morning? Here at 97.1 Wash FM,
- 6:47Speaker 2: we want to hear from you.
- 6:49Speaker 4: Now, at the beginning of the.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Show, Toby and I always talk about why we're feeling good.
- 6:53Speaker 3: Positivity is a good thing. And as Toby said, it's contagious.
- 6:57Speaker 3: And when you answer the call, so to speak, we
- 6:59Speaker 3: love it. It looks like a couple of you do
- 7:01Speaker 3: want to share what's bringing a smile to your face.
- 7:04Speaker 5: Good morning.
- 7:05Speaker 2: And Tyson's Leandra. So your neighbor is the reason you
- 7:09Speaker 2: feel really great this morning. What's going on?
- 7:11Speaker 7: My next-door neighbor is an amazing seamstress, and I have
- 7:16Speaker 7: been holding on to my grandmother's wedding dress for a
- 7:20Speaker 7: very long time. And my neighbor and I have designed
- 7:23Speaker 7: and planned a way to turn the wedding dress into
- 7:26Speaker 7: a bassinet cover for my baby who's on the way.
- 7:29Speaker 2: First things first, Leander, congratulations on the soon-to-be new addition
- 7:35Speaker 2: to your family.
- 7:36Speaker 3: And I love how you're taking something sentimental and having
- 7:39Speaker 3: future use for it.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:41Speaker 7: The dress was too small for me to wear for
- 7:42Speaker 7: my wedding. So I'm going to try to make it
- 7:44Speaker 7: work to pass it on somehow to the next generation.
- 7:47Speaker 4: Now, is grandma still with us?
- 7:49Speaker 7: She is in heaven and in our heart.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Now speak her name.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Her name was Eleanor.
- 7:54Speaker 2: I'm sure that somewhere across time, she would be very,
- 7:57Speaker 2: very proud to know that that dress is moving forward.
- 8:01Speaker 2: And your family.
- 8:02Speaker 7: I appreciate that.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Thank you. And now let's go over to Largo. Anthony,
- 8:07Speaker 2: good morning.
- 8:08Speaker 4: You're a proud parent.
- 8:10Speaker 5: Tell us why.
- 8:10Speaker 8: My son just got accepted to Johnson and Wales.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Where is that? Like Frederick?
- 8:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:15Speaker 5: Why have I heard of that?
- 8:17Speaker 8: It's a culinary school.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Oh, I just had to Google. It's in Rhode Island
- 8:21Speaker 2: and it's very prestigious.
- 8:23Speaker 5: Very, very proud of him. Does he want to open
- 8:25Speaker 5: up a restaurant?
- 8:26Speaker 8: I tell you what, he wants to have his own
- 8:28Speaker 8: place someday.
- 8:29Speaker 5: You know, Gordon Ramsay.
- 8:30Speaker 8: Better watch out.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Or those Vitaglio brothers. What's his name so we can
- 8:34Speaker 2: look out for him?
- 8:35Speaker 5: His name is James.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Listen, if James ever wants to bring by some food here,
- 8:39Speaker 3: we're happy to test it for him.
- 8:42Speaker 8: Absolutely.
- 8:43Speaker 3: Thanks, guys.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Thank you, Anthony, for letting us know about your son
- 8:46Speaker 2: and why you're feeling good this morning. And by the way,
- 8:49Speaker 2: you can tap the talkback microphone if you want and
- 8:51Speaker 2: tell us why you're having a great morning or why
- 8:54Speaker 2: you're feeling good today as we get it started. Toby
- 8:57Speaker 2: and Tilly in the morning, top stories at the top
- 8:59Speaker 2: of the hour on the way. What are you working on?
- 9:01Speaker 3: Do you all remember that show Glee? It was a
- 9:04Speaker 3: huge hit. And get this, there is a reboot in
- 9:08Speaker 3: the works. And I'll tell you more about it coming
- 9:10Speaker 3: up in just a few.
- 9:11Speaker 2: You're a huge fan of Dancing with the Stars. You
- 9:14Speaker 2: watch it on Disney +. I know we're all with
- 9:18Speaker 2: you and they're coming to town. So how would you
- 9:20Speaker 2: like to see them live? Toby and Chili in the morning.
- 9:23Speaker 2: It's 97.1 Wash FM.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Your chance coming up right after Toby and Chili's top
- 9:28Speaker 3: stories right around 610. We're going to ask for caller 10.

- 9:54Speaker 3: that story and others on the way.

- 10:00Speaker 4: Houthi rebels.
- 10:15Speaker 3: Two five-year-old girls in Prince George's County were found wandering
- 10:19Speaker 3: alone Tuesday after a school bus dropped them off in
- 10:22Speaker 3: the wrong neighborhood instead of their daycare. The school district
- 10:26Speaker 3: says it's investigating. Four people were detained after a shooting
- 10:30Speaker 3: near Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda yesterday. The school
- 10:33Speaker 3: briefly went into secure status, which was lifted about 45
- 10:36Speaker 3: minutes later. Maryland early voting begins today ahead of the
- 10:41Speaker 3: November 3rd election. Montgomery County voters can cast ballots at
- 10:45Speaker 3: any of the county's 14 early voting centers. Voting is
- 10:49Speaker 3: already underway in Virginia, while D.C. early voting will start Monday.

- 11:49Speaker 2: look at the news right around 710 this morning. If
- 11:53Speaker 2: you want to go to Dancing with the Stars, grab

- 12:08Speaker 2: Caller 10.
- 12:10Speaker 3: 866-927-4361.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Call now. Your microphone is always on. With Toby and
- 12:17Speaker 2: Chili in the morning here at 97.1 Wash FM. It's
- 12:20Speaker 2: the Talkback microphone. You'll see it if you're listening to
- 12:22Speaker 2: us on your iHeart app. You leave us a message,
- 12:25Speaker 2: we listen to them, and sometimes we talk about them.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Like a message from Carla in Vienna. If you have
- 12:30Speaker 2: a pet in your life, as Halloween closes in, you're
- 12:33Speaker 2: going to want to hear what she left us. Might
- 12:36Speaker 2: spark a conversation coming up in minutes. Now we told
- 12:40Speaker 2: you here at 97.1 Wash FM with Toby and Chili
- 12:43Speaker 2: in the morning that you can leave us your thoughts
- 12:47Speaker 2: anytime you want to via talkback. You can use it
- 12:49Speaker 2: if you're signed in listening to us on your iHeart app.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Whether we're here or we're not here, we'll end up
- 12:54Speaker 2: getting your voice notes and we'll listen to them much
- 12:57Speaker 2: like we're doing right now.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Carla in Vienna left us this message and she's got
- 13:01Speaker 3: a question for all of us regarding Halloween.
- 13:04Speaker 9: I have a little debate for you guys this morning.
- 13:07Speaker 9: I have mixed feelings about this. Personally, it's almost Halloween.
- 13:10Speaker 9: I know a lot of people are excited to dress
- 13:12Speaker 9: their pets up in costumes, but honestly, it gives them
- 13:15Speaker 9: such bad anxiety. It could have such bad ramifications on
- 13:20Speaker 9: their health or mental.
- 13:21Speaker 5: Health or physical health, everything.
- 13:22Speaker 9: So do you think it's a good idea or a
- 13:24Speaker 9: bad idea to dress your pets up in costumes for
- 13:28Speaker 9: Halloween or otherwise?
- 13:29Speaker 7: Or are you anti like me?
- 13:31Speaker 2: Well, we're both pet owners, specifically dog owners. Chilly, you
- 13:34Speaker 2: want to take that?
- 13:35Speaker 4: Look, if my dog Bella is uncomfortable, I will know.
- 13:38Speaker 3: She'll either freeze and not want to move when I
- 13:41Speaker 3: put something on her or she'll claw at it to
- 13:44Speaker 3: get rid of it. If she's behaving that way, I'm
- 13:46Speaker 3: not going to put a costume on her. But if
- 13:48Speaker 3: she doesn't mind, I do think it is cute to
- 13:51Speaker 3: dress your pets up.
- 13:51Speaker 5: What about you?
- 13:52Speaker 2: I concur. My significant other who watches both our golden
- 13:56Speaker 2: Kona and little Nova Luna. She has not met a
- 13:59Speaker 2: costume or an outfit for those dogs that she does
- 14:02Speaker 2: not like. And I don't know what she has planned
- 14:03Speaker 2: for Halloween, but I'm sure both Kona and Nova Luna
- 14:07Speaker 2: are going to love whatever costume mom gets them because, well,
- 14:11Speaker 2: they love everything mom typically does.
- 14:13Speaker 3: All right, if you're a pet parent, we want to
- 14:14Speaker 3: know what you think. Do you typically like to dress
- 14:18Speaker 3: your pet up for Halloween? Yes or no? We'd love
- 14:21Speaker 3: to hear your thoughts right now at 866-927-4361.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Or you can remember that TalkBack microphone's wide open if
- 14:29Speaker 2: it's easier for you to leave us a quick voice
- 14:30Speaker 2: note and you're listening on your iHeart app. We're talking
- 14:33Speaker 2: about it this morning. Carla, thank you for the message
- 14:35Speaker 2: that has sparked the conversation. And the debate continues.
- 14:39Speaker 10: Yeah!
- 14:40Speaker 2: A little bit ago, we played Carla's talkback message for you.
- 14:43Speaker 2: She's not feeling pet Halloween costumes at all. 97.1 Watch FM.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Toby and Chili in the morning at 866-927-4361.
- 14:53Speaker 3: Yeah, Carla's saying, why would you dress your pets up
- 14:56Speaker 3: in a costume if it's going to stress them out?
- 14:58Speaker 4: So she's not a fan.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Nope, but what about you in Ellicott City? Good morning, Katrina.
- 15:03Speaker 5: Okay, dress your pet. Okay, they get stressed out, so
- 15:06Speaker 5: do we.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Oh, somebody's triggered.
- 15:08Speaker 5: Wait, wait, how is it stressful for us?
- 15:10Speaker 1: We have to spend weeks, months sometimes figuring out our
- 15:13Speaker 1: outfits and the outfits for our pets.
- 15:15Speaker 5: They can handle a little bit of stress well.
- 15:18Speaker 4: You can get insta-fabulous photos.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Who cares about your pet's stress?
- 15:24Speaker 4: It's totally worth it.
- 15:25Speaker 5: Follow for more.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Don't forget to click that notification bell and like and subscribe.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Now to Woodbridge. Kiara, good morning.
- 15:32Speaker 4: How do you feel about dressing pets for Halloween?
- 15:35Speaker 7: I am for it, as long as the pet isn't, like, struggling.
- 15:40Speaker 5: Struggling how?
- 15:41Speaker 7: If they're constantly trying to rip it off, please be
- 15:43Speaker 7: nice to your pet. But if your pet is just
- 15:45Speaker 7: shocked and stunned, by all means, let them be cute
- 15:47Speaker 7: in their costumes.
- 15:48Speaker 3: So you're asking for permission before you put them through
- 15:51Speaker 3: the torture.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Yeah, it's consent.
- 15:53Speaker 5: Consent-based.
- 15:54Speaker 2: And consent is caring. Thank you, Kiara. Have a great
- 15:57Speaker 2: day in Woodbridge. Now to Capitol Hill. Good morning, Becca.
- 16:00Speaker 4: I say for sure you dress up your pet for Halloween.
- 16:03Speaker 8: He's an extension of you.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Mmm.
- 16:06Speaker 4: What do you mean by that?
- 16:07Speaker 8: It's like you're a couple and you have your whole
- 16:10Speaker 8: costume theme. I do it every year.
- 16:12Speaker 6: You have to.

- 16:59Speaker 2: Right around 7.10, top stories at the top of the hour,
- 17:03Speaker 2: and then your nearly impossible question. It's on 97.1 Wash FM.

- 18:13Speaker 3: facing a review of his behavior after a traffic stop

- 20:06Speaker 2: Win those Matchbox 20 tickets at 866-927-4361.
- 20:12Speaker 5: Toby and Chili's Nearly Impossible Question.
- 20:15Speaker 2: On this Thursday morning, lay that question on us one
- 20:17Speaker 2: more time.
- 20:18Speaker 3: 65% of people say this is the worst thing you
- 20:21Speaker 3: can discover in your hotel room.
- 20:23Speaker 2: What is it?
- 20:27Speaker 10: 866-927-4361.
- 20:27Speaker 2: The number you're playing for tickets to Matchbox 20, Marrow
- 20:30Speaker 2: of the Post Pavilion. Thanks, Live Nation. They're in town
- 20:33Speaker 2: this coming summer. She's coming straight out of Odenton. She's
- 20:37Speaker 2: lived there for years. Her name is Kimberly.
- 20:39Speaker 5: Welcome.
- 20:40Speaker 2: How are you?
- 20:41Speaker 8: I'm doing great this morning.
- 20:43Speaker 5: How are you?
- 20:44Speaker 2: I'm great. Chili's great, too. We're glad we're talking to
- 20:49Speaker 2: you because we want you to see Matchbox 20 at
- 20:51Speaker 2: Merriweather Post Pavilion in July. Thanks to Live Nation. We
- 20:54Speaker 2: just need you to tell us the answer to that question.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Chili dropped on us a minute ago.
- 20:58Speaker 7: Hair.
- 21:01Speaker 9: Okay.
- 21:01Speaker 3: Have you ever seen evidence of someone else's hair in
- 21:05Speaker 3: a hotel room?
- 21:07Speaker 8: Yes, last weekend on the sink at the hotel at
- 21:11Speaker 8: my son's lacrosse tournament.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Well, don't say the name of the hotel because we
- 21:20Speaker 2: don't want to get in trouble with whoever the company was.
- 21:22Speaker 3: But were you compensated or did somebody clean it?
- 21:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you must have been a little shocked
- 21:30Speaker 2: and surprised is an understatement.
- 21:32Speaker 8: I was shocked, but I just cleaned it up myself. Kimberly,
- 21:35Speaker 8: in that case, I'm very happy to tell you that 65%
- 21:37Speaker 8: of people say the worst thing they can discover is
- 21:39Speaker 8: someone else's hair in the hotel room. So that means
- 21:41Speaker 8: you win.
- 21:41Speaker 10: Yes! Woo!
- 21:53Speaker 8: I'm so excited.
- 21:55Speaker 2: 30 years of Matchbox 20. They're going to celebrate it

- 22:19Speaker 2: love you, love you in a non-threatening, non-HR sort of way.
- 22:23Speaker 8: I love you also. You guys are the best, and
- 22:25Speaker 8: you're very kind and great to the community. So thank
- 22:28Speaker 8: you for what you do.
- 22:30Speaker 2: You're good for the soul.
- 22:31Speaker 8: That's what teachers do. We make it better.
- 22:34Speaker 10: Amen.
- 22:35Speaker 2: And you have fun at Matchbox 20. Have a great
- 22:38Speaker 2: day today.
- 22:38Speaker 1: All right?
- 22:39Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 22:39Speaker 8: You too.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Wow, I'm moved. Sorry, I'm going to need a minute.
- 22:43Speaker 2: We got more tickets, Matchbox 20, Merriweather Post Pavilion tomorrow morning.
- 22:47Speaker 2: After Toby and Tilly's top stories at the top of
- 22:49Speaker 2: the hour, around 7, 10 with another round of your
- 22:52Speaker 2: nearly impossible question here at 97.1. Watch FM and stay
- 22:55Speaker 2: with us because in just a bit.
- 22:57Speaker 3: In case you missed it, Selena Gomez recently told us
- 23:00Speaker 3: that she quit vaping because the nicotine really changed her voice.
- 23:04Speaker 3: So we're going to talk about what it is that
- 23:06Speaker 3: made you quit smoking. And we'd love for you to
- 23:09Speaker 3: join the conversation if you want at 866-927-4361.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Did you used to smoke? Why did you quit? Let's
- 23:17Speaker 2: talk about it. Toby and Chili in the morning. 866-927-4361
- 23:20Speaker 2: is the number here at 97.1 Wash FM. You know,
- 23:25Speaker 2: Selena Gomez says that vaping nicotine literally changed her voice.
- 23:31Speaker 3: She actually put out a video earlier this week saying,
- 23:33Speaker 3: you know, it's OK if you hate my voice.
- 23:35Speaker 4: That's fine.
- 23:36Speaker 3: You don't have to listen to it. And she blamed
- 23:38Speaker 3: it on her vaping addiction. And she says that she
- 23:42Speaker 3: stopped and it's really hard to quit. But she's trying
- 23:45Speaker 3: to do it. I know that you I never smoked,
- 23:48Speaker 3: but I know you used to be a smoker.
- 23:50Speaker 10: I did.
- 23:50Speaker 2: And I'm glad that I quit.
- 23:52Speaker 4: How long did you smoke?
- 23:53Speaker 2: Into my mid-30s. I started when I was 21 because
- 23:56Speaker 2: I got stressed out at a job. And the night
- 23:58Speaker 2: guy at the radio station I worked at at the
- 24:00Speaker 2: time goes, here, try one of these. It'll calm you down. Yeah,
- 24:03Speaker 2: it didn't just calm me down. It hooked me.
- 24:04Speaker 4: Okay. And why did you quit when you quit?
- 24:07Speaker 2: Well, because I was seeing somebody who said, quote, I
- 24:10Speaker 2: don't date smokers. So you have a choice to make.
- 24:14Speaker 4: So you quit because a woman you were dating gave
- 24:17Speaker 4: you an ultimatum.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Yes.
- 24:18Speaker 2: And when you look like me, when somebody gives you
- 24:20Speaker 2: an ultimatum and they're way out of your league, you
- 24:22Speaker 2: do what they say. That's right. At least that's what
- 24:25Speaker 2: worked for me.
- 24:26Speaker 3: Interesting how certain ultimatums don't work like getting married.
- 24:30Speaker 2: I know where you're going with this, and you're going
- 24:32Speaker 2: to make me want to go smoke a cigarette again. No,
- 24:34Speaker 2: I'm just kidding. I'm not ever going back to that.
- 24:36Speaker 2: But if you smoked, what was it that convinced you
- 24:39Speaker 2: to quit? Did you have a Selena Gomez moment? What
- 24:42Speaker 2: was that moment for you? Did somebody challenge you to quit,
- 24:45Speaker 2: give you an ultimatum? 866-927-4361 is the number. Let's talk
- 24:52Speaker 2: about it. And again, we know that it's tough to
- 24:54Speaker 2: kick the habit, but let's talk about it anyway. Give
- 24:57Speaker 2: us a call. Tell us your story. We'll get back
- 24:59Speaker 2: into it in a few, but we've got to get
- 25:01Speaker 2: you the news first. Top stories at the top of
- 25:03Speaker 2: the hour around 810. Chili, what's up?
- 25:06Speaker 3: Looks like Airbnb guests are getting a break from doing
- 25:09Speaker 3: all those checkout chores. I've got the latest on a
- 25:13Speaker 3: new podcast. Coming up in just a few minutes.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Believe the hype, because here at 97.1 Wash FM with
- 25:19Speaker 2: Toby and Chili in the morning, we've got a Thursday
- 25:22Speaker 2: ticket takeover for you before 830.
- 25:25Speaker 3: This morning, we've got tickets to Stevie Wonder's sold out
- 25:30Speaker 3: 50th anniversary tour.
- 25:33Speaker 4: Your first shot coming up soon.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Don't go anywhere. It's 97.1 Wash FM TLC. 97.1 WASH-FM, Washington.
- 25:45Speaker 5: An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on Top Stories, top of
- 25:49Speaker 5: the hour.
- 25:49Speaker 3: The State Department is ordering non-emergency U.S. personnel and their
- 25:53Speaker 3: families to leave Saudi Arabia. We've got the latest on
- 25:57Speaker 3: that story and others on the way.
- 25:59Speaker 4: With Toby and Chili in the morning on 97.1 WASH-FM.
- 26:06Speaker 5: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 26:08Speaker 3: The State Department is ordering non-emergency U.S. personnel and their
- 26:13Speaker 3: families to leave Saudi Arabia amid escalating attacks by Houthi rebels.
- 26:18Speaker 4: Five people are charged.
- 26:19Speaker 3: In an alleged gun trafficking ring that brought firearms from
- 26:22Speaker 3: North Carolina into D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, as well as
- 26:25Speaker 3: other East Coast areas. Two suspects were licensed D.C. special
- 26:31Speaker 3: police officers. Two five-year-old girls in Prince George's County were
- 26:35Speaker 3: found wandering alone Tuesday after a school bus dropped them
- 26:39Speaker 3: off in the wrong neighborhood instead of their daycare.
- 26:41Speaker 4: The school district is investigating.
- 26:44Speaker 3: Four people were detained after a shooting that happened near
- 26:47Speaker 3: Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda yesterday. The school briefly
- 26:52Speaker 3: went into secure status. Maryland early voting starts today ahead
- 26:56Speaker 3: of the November 3rd election. Now voting is already underway
- 27:00Speaker 3: in Virginia, while D.C. 's early voting starts Monday. Lime
- 27:04Speaker 3: says they're investing $ 17 million to improve scooter and e-bike
- 27:09Speaker 3: safety in D.C. The company has already banned nearly 1,000
- 27:11Speaker 3: accounts in the past four weeks, and they're using technology
- 27:15Speaker 3: to detect underage riders, sidewalk riding, and other unsafe behavior.
- 27:21Speaker 3: The Washington Commanders have hired former NFL head coach Steve Wilkes'
- 27:26Speaker 3: part-time defensive assistant to help game plan as the team
- 27:30Speaker 3: looks to fix a defense that is ranked 26th in
- 27:34Speaker 3: the league. And beginning November 20th, Airbnb hosts can no
- 27:39Speaker 3: longer require guests to wash dishes, strip beds, or even
- 27:43Speaker 3: start laundry before checking out. However, they can still ask
- 27:47Speaker 3: guests to gather their towels and sort the trash and recycling.
- 27:52Speaker 3: Forecast for today, lots of sunny skies, highs around 70.
- 27:56Speaker 3: Right now, 44 in Tysons.
- 27:59Speaker 2: And that is the news. Remember, Toby and Chili in
- 28:02Speaker 2: the morning. Top stories at the top of the hour,
- 28:04Speaker 2: right around 10 past every hour. When you wake up
- 28:06Speaker 2: with 97.1 and watch FM. 866-927-4361. Call us now. Join
- 28:13Speaker 2: the conversation, especially if you were a smoker or if
- 28:17Speaker 2: maybe you knew somebody who was a smoker and you
- 28:19Speaker 2: helped influence them to quit. And if you were that smoker,
- 28:23Speaker 2: tell us what made you decide to quit. We're talking
- 28:26Speaker 2: about it this morning and we'll get back to that
- 28:27Speaker 2: conversation in just a minute. We want to know what
- 28:31Speaker 2: it is that convinced you to finally quit smoking. How'd
- 28:34Speaker 2: you kick the habit? Toby and Chili in the morning.
- 28:36Speaker 2: It is 97.1 Watch FM. And we're talking about it
- 28:40Speaker 2: this morning because Selena Gomez shared some stuff this week.
- 28:43Speaker 3: She did a video where she talked about how vaping
- 28:45Speaker 3: nicotine has changed her voice. And she really wants to
- 28:50Speaker 3: and is trying to quit the vaping.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Why did you quit? 866-927-4361. Good morning in Herndon. Paul.
- 29:00Speaker 6: My son asked me why I always had to go
- 29:02Speaker 6: outside after dinner, and I realized how much of my
- 29:05Speaker 6: day revolved around smoking.
- 29:07Speaker 5: So your son's question was the wake-up call?
- 29:10Speaker 6: I'd been wanting to quit for years, but that conversation
- 29:13Speaker 6: finally got me to do something about it.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Remember, it doesn't matter how your journey to quit started.
- 29:19Speaker 2: You quit. And that's the point. Thank you for sharing
- 29:22Speaker 2: that this morning, Pauline Herndon. Let's go over to Janine.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Good morning and Laurel.
- 29:27Speaker 4: What finally convinced you to stop smoking?
- 29:30Speaker 5: I was getting ready for a date. I sprayed perfume.
- 29:32Speaker 5: I chewed some gum.
- 29:33Speaker 4: I washed my hands.
- 29:35Speaker 10: I did everything to cover up the cigarette smell. The
- 29:38Speaker 10: guy still asked if I had just... smoked the second
- 29:41Speaker 10: I sat down in his car.
- 29:42Speaker 4: And why was that your aha moment?
- 29:44Speaker 10: I realized I was spending so much time trying to
- 29:46Speaker 10: hide a habit that everyone could smell anyway, and that
- 29:50Speaker 10: was my wake-up call.
- 29:51Speaker 4: Put that cigarette out.
- 29:52Speaker 5: You know I don't allow no smoking in here.
- 29:59Speaker 2: In case you missed it, it's a Thursday ticket takeover
