- 0:10What does the nanny do? OK, so we're done.
- 0:13Goodbye. You.
- 0:16Shut it off. Do not twist my words.
- 0:19Do not make me a victim. Sweetie, Just look at the
- 0:22mountain. That's what you.
- 0:23Saw that day just the knife in
- 0:29and the sacrifices that I made
- 0:48Buckle your seatbelts everybody.
- 0:49We are going on an adventure like you haven't seen or heard
- 0:57Score in several years ago on the dysentery.
- 1:01Trail. Yeah, it is almost like we're
- 1:03going back in time. I mean.
- 1:05And it's just as made-up as that computer game.
- 1:08Yeah, it's a journey and it is definitely made-up.
- 1:11Come with us now as we take a journey into Season 5, Episode 7
- 1:28We'll see how long that lasts. We opened this wonderful episode
- 1:36opening at Janelle's house because we actually see Logan
- 1:39and Christine in the opening shot.
- 1:41So I was like, what's going on here?
- 1:42I was a little confused. But Logan is eating mock tapioca
- 1:55What are these and? Christine's making this for
- 2:01Logan's birthday, says You know this is your birthday gift.
- 2:04OK, whatever. Another birthday about to be
- 2:07overshadowed by big announcements.
- 2:08Of course, of course. We don't talk about the recaps
- 2:24Kody's couch conversation about the baby decision again.
- 2:27And when she says I don't think you do in response to him saying
- 2:38face that looks like he is just so fucking over it and he
- 2:43looks disgusted and the look is hateful.
- 2:46Yeah, when you see the footage
- 2:50episode or whatever episode it
- 2:55different, the shot was different and I didn't catch it.
- 2:58They didn't show his facial reaction to her quote there.
- 3:03Yeah, what did she say again? Well, he says first.
- 3:06I know this is a tough decision.
- 3:09And then she says, I don't think you do.
- 3:13That's right in his face. Doesn't he like shoot his head
- 3:18Believe he puts his head up and he does this thing where he kind
- 3:25his eyes are buggin and he has this hateful look in his eyes.
- 3:35need to know about where their relationship is truly at.
- 3:38And you know, Chris and I, we each watched the episode solo
- 3:44and then kind of chit chatted before watching it together.
- 3:48And I was like, did you? And I didn't even have to say
- 3:52what I was going to say. And you were like, yes.
- 3:55It was intense and it stood out as a moment where we even talked
- 4:04some of the nonverbals and their reactions to each other.
- 4:08Because it looks like he is like shut the fuck up, I don't want
- 4:14I can't believe I'm doing this captured in a second.
- 4:17It's everything that you need to know about where the
- 4:20relationship was truly at during that interview around season 5,
- 4:26episode 5 to 7, you know, or after when they recorded the
- 4:33couch conversations. But I was telling Chris, I'm
- 4:36like, This is why doing the rewatch is so interesting,
- 4:39because I don't think when I was hearing about this or when
- 4:43people were watching it in real time that they maybe caught
- 4:46these little tells. And now rewatching it, it's just
- 4:58Absolutely. Honestly, I don't.
- 5:01If I ever saw my husband look at me like that or do a look like
- 5:10Right. Yeah, I would know.
- 5:12Our marriage was in a horrible. Spot hate filled disgust, blah
- 5:18It was not cute. It.
- 5:20Was not cute and he was not keeping sweet.
- 5:23He was not keeping sweet, that is for sure.
- 5:26Oh, do you bastard. And thank you for bringing that
- 5:29up because it is totally worth mentioning.
- 5:31It was a high impact moment that was in a previously on SO.
- 5:36Yeah, recaps are usually like we gloss over, we don't notice
- 5:39much, but you guys are going to hear us talk about this episode.
- 5:45mentions here and there about how Meri, if she had a baby,
- 5:49then this, but nothing that warranted that in the recap.
- 5:54Right. Other than maybe if the
- 5:57producers were being smart trying to show something
- 6:01sinister. Or maybe just to keep viewers
- 6:05remembering, like remember that this is a thing and you know,
- 6:10and it's one of those things, it's like we cannot forget.
- 6:13We literally you will not allow us to.
- 6:15Forget beat us with it. Seriously.
- 6:18Oh my gosh. So when we're coming back to the
- 6:21start of the episode, Kody says that he has an announcement.
- 6:24So like you said, another birthday that gets overshadowed
- 6:27by an announcement, which is so ridiculous.
- 6:30They're all like gathered for Logan's birthday AKA an
- 6:34announcement where everyone's gathered in the living room and
- 6:37sitting around anxiously waiting
- 6:40he says how would everyone like to take a vacation to Nauvoo
- 6:45IL in? Two RV's.
- 6:48Oh my God, the younger kids are excited.
- 6:52They all have the like young kid enthusiasm gay.
- 6:54We're going to go on a trip and. We're in an.
- 6:58RV spinning around in circles and spreading our germs
- 7:01everywhere and it's like, cool. But our favorite child, Mckelty.
- 7:08Yeah, the older kids are not excited and they do a close up
- 7:11of Mckelty, OH. My God, she does the gun to head
- 7:16and pulling the trigger gesture.
- 7:18That was huge back then. I'm sure I did it many a time at
- 7:30Right, yeah, Kody does in some of the details says, you know,
- 7:38blah, blah, blah. I think, Mckelty says it's
- 7:42boring. We get to learn about our
- 7:45culture in Illinois. Illinois.
- 7:48It's so annoying. I love.
- 7:51It it's so totally teenage vibes.
- 7:53Like, yeah, who would want to be with their family in an RV for
- 8:00Which it turns out, they actually do need to learn some
- 8:06Yeah, Yeah, they do. Which is funny.
- 8:08It's like an unintended part of the episode.
- 8:10I feel like by the end you were making comments about how, wow,
- 8:14they're really learning a lot about what they're so
- 8:16passionate. What they should already fucking
- 8:20Oh yeah. Then Kody says it's got a lot of
- 8:27just tripped me up. It's really like going to
- 8:32Jerusalem. Right.
- 8:33Well, Christine says it's a family vacation, but some of the
- 8:41And it's like, yes, OK, you're stressed.
- 8:43And that's when Kody says it's like a pilgrimage.
- 8:46Polygamy didn't start there, but it's significant in LDS culture.
- 8:53Yeah, Joseph Smith introduced the idea of polygamy in Nauvoo,
- 8:58IL. Yes, ultimately leading to his
- 9:02death. Yeah, we're going to be talking
- 9:04a lot about Nauvoo, which is an interesting word.
- 9:09It reminds me of the planet of
- 9:15And once again, it's all made-up.
- 9:18It is. It is just like Star Wars and
- 9:22Kody even mentions at one point that this history dates back to
- 9:27100 or so years ago and he doesn't even know exactly when
- 9:34while making that comment. And I'm like, if you can trace
- 9:38your religion to 100 or so years
- 9:43call. Right right right.
- 9:46The LDS church has struggled for
- 9:51itself from polygamy. Therefore Kody and his family
- 9:55are like outsiders. They're like a problem to the
- 9:58LDS church, which interesting to
- 10:05established religion that your
- 10:09that broke away. So it makes sense.
- 10:13But it's also like, yeah, you're
- 10:16and not really catching the irony in that.
- 10:19Problem to society, problem to
- 10:23But I digress. Just a problem.
- 10:25A problem to our eyes and ears
- 10:29So then we get a shot of the adults sitting around a table
- 10:32doing their planning for this trip.
- 10:34And OK, so Janelle, you know, sometimes we get reminded of why
- 10:39Janelle's our queen and why we
- 10:42And she says it'll be nice to get away from the chaos of
- 10:45building the houses for a week.
- 10:47She's also looking forward to not thinking about anything for
- 10:50a week. And I'm like not thinking about
- 10:52anything. While you white knuckle the
- 10:54steering wheel of an RV for days on end.
- 10:58OK, Janelle. This theme keeps coming up for
- 11:03sidetracked right now, but I kind of scratched my head and my
- 11:10the time? These people make it sound like,
- 11:13OK, Yeah. You know, planning the build of
- 11:16a home is somewhat stressful, but my God, Janelle, stop going
- 11:19to the gym at the ass crack of dawn and, you know, ignoring
- 11:23your children all day. I guess I I don't really know.
- 11:29kind of chaos for another. Yeah, well.
- 11:31Yeah, well, yeah, the Brown family chaos.
- 11:33Meri says that this is giving me stress.
- 11:37Yeah. And it's all over her face.
- 11:41Well, we find out that it's going to be a 1600 mile
- 11:46pilgrimage from Vegas to Nauvoo and it's going to take 3 days of
- 11:54Three days to get there and three days to get back.
- 11:57Seven days total they said the trip.
- 11:59So one day in Nauvoo, after all this mess express of planning
- 12:04and I want to know what the fuck is the hurry?
- 12:10What is the rush? Why I don't, I don't know.
- 12:15And in classic television storytelling, do we get any
- 12:19footage of them coming back home?
- 12:21No. So I wonder if they really took
- 12:24the RV back home or not. Maybe they just were like, we've
- 12:31that they didn't want to torture us.
- 12:33I don't know. Yeah, I, I just, I I just
- 12:36questioned whether they took the
- 12:38But. Well, maybe they got dysentery
- 12:41on the way home and they couldn't.
- 12:42Show us they couldn't. Maybe they had somewhere loose
- 12:45rolls and loose stools on the way home, you know, and.
- 12:49Maddie rolling up loose stools
- 12:52Rolling up their loose stools and inside the camper.
- 12:56In the RV, hitting the bumps and
- 13:00loose rolls. No.
- 13:02Oh man, You know, once a chef, I
- 13:08about if something fun comes up, how could they fit it into
- 13:11their trip? And I love it, Meri says.
- 13:14If it's not in the plan, it's not happening.
- 13:17And she has these wide, aggressive eyes.
- 13:20Like don't you even test me or
- 13:24Do not fuck with a planner when it comes to a road trip where
- 13:27you have no time for silly business.
- 13:29Nope, no time whatsoever. We've just constructed this
- 13:32timeline of our own volition. That literally doesn't matter,
- 13:36right? OK, because they're all getting
- 13:38back to their busy lives. Of what?
- 13:40Which nobody knows, Christine says.
- 13:43The more we talk about it, the
- 13:46I'm just saying forget about me because this sounds like a lot
- 13:50of stress. Yeah, just have fun without me.
- 13:53This sounds like a lot of stress.
- 13:55And then she makes a face. She made a lot of faces in this
- 13:58episode. It's very expressive.
- 14:00Christine, This entire episode
- 14:06to come out and say it again. I've said it the last few
- 14:08episodes. I love Christine now.
- 14:11I love her. I am a stand for Christine.
- 14:15Christine. I'm just I'm wondering if you're
- 14:18running a fever. No, she is just being so fucking
- 14:22honest and it's so refreshing and she's the only one that's
- 14:26like calling out the shit and just being blatantly honest and
- 14:29she's making her faces and she's
- 14:34being silly. And maybe it's the cider flowing
- 14:37through veins. Maybe it's the potential.
- 14:42I I'm not going to say it, but
- 14:47she mentions she perhaps was on something that she decided not
- 14:50to take any more after taking it
- 14:53But she is hilarious this entire
- 14:57speaking truths. She was definitely the comedic
- 15:00relief in this episode. I did chuckle more than I've
- 15:03ever laughed with Christine collectively over the entire
- 15:06series at this point, so that's a good thing.
- 15:09When she was kind of like sidebar the last few episodes
- 15:13quiet here and there other than her huge exam that she took the
- 15:21last episode and. Talking about how their families
- 15:23breaking up and disintegrating.
- 15:24Yeah. And that nothing works and
- 15:27nothing makes sense. Yeah.
- 15:28This episode, she was definitely slapstick, which is, Yeah.
- 15:30It was fun. It's like the last episode she
- 15:40I am who I am. I do suspect she's on drugs.
- 15:42I'm just. Saying she's You mean like
- 15:46Maddie? She's definitely roll.
- 15:47She's on a different drug than Maddie.
- 15:50That's. Allegedly.
- 15:51Allegedly. Allegedly.
- 15:52Maddie that episode was like, I'm chill, I'm cool.
- 15:56She's also like that in this episode.
- 15:59I'll get, I'll get through a sentence eventually and
- 16:01Christine's like, I'm going to tell you what's going on.
- 16:04Oh my God. We get to Meri's and she's
- 16:08packing the camper and cleaning her house and she's acting like
- 16:12it's so early in the morning and they show her clock on her
- 16:21Shut up. I know well you're a mom with
- 16:24young kids, but to the average person?
- 16:26To someone. Now she's been up for five hours
- 16:33Yeah. I mean, to be up at 728 packing
- 16:37up the RV, frantically cleaning, you know, it's is what
- 16:41it is. She's trying to get ready to go
- 16:43and she says that she can't stand leaving her house a mess,
- 16:47so she's going nuts. And I identify with that there.
- 16:51You know, I don't like leaving a
- 16:55that when you get home you're not like, Oh my God, this is
- 16:57what I got home to. I agree, I don't like leaving
- 17:00the place in a state of despair because I don't want to come
- 17:04back and feel that despair again
- 17:09Are you the type of person that when you get back from a trip
- 17:12you unpack the first day? Or do you slowly unpack
- 17:15overtime? Oh, good question.
- 17:17I usually, oh gosh, it's, it kind of depends on when you get
- 17:21in, you know, but usually I because I try to leave things in
- 17:26a state of I don't have to do anything.
- 17:29I might throw all my laundry into the wash and then sit on
- 17:33the couch for the rest of the day.
- 17:35I try not to have any activities
- 17:38I usually don't have to do a lot
- 17:41know, putting my carry on into the washing machine.
- 17:45I like to unpack right when I get home if possible, depending
- 17:49on the circumstances, and then I
- 17:53sitting out for public view for days on end for my husband to
- 17:57take back downstairs. That's what I was assuming was
- 18:00for the hubby to put it away. Yes, if I just leave this object
- 18:03here for long enough, surely it will be put away.
- 18:06Surely it will disappear magically.
- 18:09That's amazing. This is followed by a mini
- 18:11collage of them putting their things into the RV's getting
- 18:14settled. You know that this is an early
- 18:17morning mild version of Brown family chaos.
- 18:19Just guess what? We're getting ready to go,
- 18:21everybody. We find out who's coming and who
- 18:23is not coming. We find out that Robyn's sister
- 18:26Tara is coming along. Yes, remember her from a
- 18:30previous episode? We couldn't remember her name.
- 18:32I wrote it down. This time it's Tara.
- 18:35We have 21 people total coming
- 18:39Hunter is staying back for football camp and Logan is
- 18:42staying back for I don't remember why.
- 18:46Prior obligations. Prior obligations.
- 18:49Getting ready for college, let's
- 18:51Maddie is jealous of the boys that get to stay behind.
- 18:54Of course she is. Luckily, unlike her sister, she
- 18:56didn't make any. I'm killing myself with a gun.
- 18:59Oh. Gestures, Yeah.
- 19:01She did have a bun on the top of
- 19:04cotton candy, like fuzz, like she has literally bleached the
- 19:09absolute living tar out of that hair.
- 19:11And there's just a lot of cotton candy now that's leftover.
- 19:14I thought it was beautiful. Maddie does predict that things
- 19:18will be calm for the first day of their travels.
- 19:21And then she says, quote, things are going to get bad.
- 19:24And I was like, yes, things are going to get bad.
- 19:27They totally are. They have to drive through 7
- 19:31states. They let us know that Robyn and
- 19:33Christine are going to stay in hotels and that Meri and Janelle
- 19:41the RV's and Robyn and Christine staying in hotels?
- 19:44Well. Do they tell us?
- 19:47There's a joke made about how having babies is driving this
- 19:52decision and I don't remember what the back and forth is right
- 20:00Princess which. You know, Christine, she might
- 20:09Come on.
- 20:10She's a plague Princess. Polygamist royalty, yes.
- 20:13And that's when Kody cracks a joke to Meri that if she had a
- 20:16baby, she wouldn't have to stay in the RV.
- 20:20Meri says she was easygoing with
- 20:23She didn't really care whether
- 20:27And I don't really know. Was there details about this
- 20:29baby thing that stood out to you?
- 20:32I mean. They just call attention to the
- 20:34fact that the two with the youngest children are the ones
- 20:36that are staying in a hotel and that they use their babies as
- 20:39an excuse for being the ones that need to stay in the
- 20:43hotel. And it doesn't really track
- 20:46because honestly if I had a baby I'd probably prefer being in the
- 20:57But packing up all of your like baby stuff every morning from a
- 21:01hotel room to get back to the family seems like more work than
- 21:08spot. But I'm also curious how the
- 21:10kids get divvied up right? Because just because Robyn and
- 21:14Christine are staying in hotel
- 21:16their own hotel room? Because if your if your baby's
- 21:18young enough to wake up and be
- 21:20RV would be a better place to stay.
- 21:22You're at least by yourself and not waking up the children, but
- 21:26maybe the kids are staying in the RV's.
- 21:28They don't really give us these details.
- 21:29They don't explain Kody calls it
- 21:32makes me wonder if they actually set up tents for some of the
- 21:36kids. They probably did.
- 21:37So if they actually did that, then maybe it does make more
- 21:42sense for the babies and the moms to be at the hotel.
- 21:45So they're not helping with all of that because the babies have
- 21:48an actual bedtime. But either way, they don't.
- 21:50Make any night anyway so. No, either way it's just weird.
- 21:54I'm not I.
- 21:55It's messy and it's just another
- 21:58to the fact that Meri doesn't have a baby.
- 22:01And it's like, my God, just stop.
- 22:03Of course, yeah. I think another thing that makes
- 22:06sense to me is that Meri talks
- 22:09either way. And I think it's funny because
- 22:11Meri is particular about certain
- 22:14makes sure to point out when she's like, I'm cool with it,
- 22:17I'm flexible. And sometimes I feel like
- 22:18there's an element of people not
- 22:21looking at it going, why wouldn't you just believe her?
- 22:23In this instance? Meri's literally like I can
- 22:25sleep in in the RV, it's cool.
- 22:27don't care. And I feel like there's a vibe
- 22:29of well, really Mare and it's like, I don't know, it seems
- 22:33like she would be fine with it.
- 22:35And Janelle tried to live in a teepee and she didn't make it
- 22:38overnight. She likes camping.
- 22:40She like. Literally tried to live in a
- 22:42teepee. Of course she's going to pick
- 22:43the RV because she's like, I want to stay in an RV.
- 22:46Like that's her vibe. Also though, this entire episode
- 22:57We definitely see that as a pattern.
- 22:59Our first stop on this family voyage, this pilgrimage, excuse
- 23:03me, it's not a voyage, it's a pilgrimage, Is St.
- 23:06George, UT to visit their friend Chris who owns family Pond.
- 23:11Now luckily Chris say luckily Chris does come up as a
- 23:16reoccurring character in the show.
- 23:17We get to interact with him in future episodes.
- 23:20So we're just getting a little taste of Chris, which is what I
- 23:23like to call going on a first date with Chris, a little taste
- 23:27of Chris. Chris also owns the home in
- 23:29Nauvoo that the family will be staying in the Hiram Smith farm,
- 23:39detail to get out of nowhere. And then you're wondering, why
- 23:43finding out things about their past.
- 23:45Well, not their past, their fake religions past which includes
- 23:50Joseph Smith and his brother Hiram Smith blah blah blah yadda
- 23:57shit in the store that's like a picture of Joseph Smith, Brigham
- 24:03out and I trauma blocked because I'm like I don't know
- 24:06what to even say or care about.
- 24:09They are looking at a photo and a letter, and the letter is
- 24:13important. It adds value and it's a Brigham
- 24:16Young and it is worth about $6000 in this Utah pawn shop.
- 24:21Oh yes. 6K6. K.
- 24:26And if it was outside of Utah or
- 24:31worth 6K? Probably not.
- 24:33You'd be in a dumpster. Yeah, they joke that Kody looks
- 24:37like him, that Kody looks like
- 24:43that Brigham Young is handsome, so she doesn't mind the
- 24:46comparison. And it's like you fucking kiss
- 24:50ass. They also called Brigham Young
- 24:52Uncle Brigham Young, which I thought was creepy.
- 24:55I'm like, is this some sort of, you know, like, familiar term
- 24:59for the religious fanatics? And I puked a little in my
- 25:02mouth, and I swallowed it, and
- 25:04But the photo of him, like, he's
- 25:08cleft beard or I don't know what
- 25:11It's not attractive. And then, of course, when
- 25:13they're drawing this comparison,
- 25:15turn his head and try to do whatever.
- 25:17And it's like, you know, you guys are just putting out how
- 25:20you all look the same because you're all inbred.
- 25:22Like it's so weird. They also call Brigham Young the
- 25:33Illinois. Right, right.
- 25:35Modern Moses. He didn't part any seas, but he
- 25:39didn't help the criminals and freaks get over some hills.
- 25:43Well, I would like to dispute that because he parted a lot of
- 25:47red seas. Oh my God, Oh my God.
- 25:51In fact, Brigham Young had two dozen wives at least, so there
- 25:59I cannot believe you just did that.
- 26:01I cannot believe it. I mean, it's a beautiful thing.
- 26:06A goal for their first day of
- 26:08travel leaving Vegas is to get
- 26:13on the West side of the state.
- 26:15which is 525 miles now, if you're from the West or you've
- 26:19driven through the West, it's funny because I was like, Grand
- 26:22Junction Co has been a destination for me.
- 26:24Like when you're going that way,
- 26:27Coast or anywhere over there, Grand Junction is such a staple
- 26:32to stop in because you're like, we're getting across the
- 26:34border, We're getting to a place.
- 26:35Like it just is so funny to see. And I'm like, how many people
- 26:38have been like, we just have to get to Grand Junction, Co.
- 26:41Meri is doing a lot of Rd. math. Oh yes, she is.
- 26:47She's got the hours down and when she said something like,
- 26:49oh, I think it's going to take 8 hours or 12 hours, I don't
- 26:52remember what she said. 8 or 9 hours for 500 miles.
- 26:55Right. She said 8 or 9 hours and I'm
- 26:58going For me as a single man doing the trip by myself, I
- 27:02would plan for 10 hours. And that's to like stop to get
- 27:10like a mile a minute. Yeah, 525 miles divided by 60 is
- 27:19Put 16 hours of driving each day, but that they could do 8 or
- 27:27this Mile Rd. math for you. Yeah, no, she did not do well at
- 27:34miles, I'm like that's mile a minute I think, right.
- 27:38Well, yes, 525 miles divided by 60, which is how many minutes
- 27:42are in an hour, is 8.75. So even if you didn't stop and
- 27:48If you plan on a mile a minute like you're talking about,
- 27:50that's 8.75 hours, which is why I would think it would take 10
- 27:56they're never going to stop. They're just going to float
- 27:59through everything like it's weird math.
- 28:01Well, they're in RV's. They shouldn't have to stop.
- 28:04They should have potty time in their RV's, but then they've got
- 28:12I don't know how many vans. I didn't even note that there
- 28:15was a van, so I don't know. I guess if they could all fit in
- 28:22Well, they show the van being driven by Christine at one
- 28:26point, or by Robyn, so. They do have to stop.
- 28:30Yeah, they do have to stop, and they tell us that their potty
- 28:33stops take about an hour each. Oh yeah, they can't just do a
- 28:37tinkle. It's got to be an hour ordeal,
- 28:43There would be whippersnap you've got.
- 28:45Hell no. You've got 2 minutes to pee and
- 28:47then I'm leaving you in this state we don't live in.
- 28:49The women you don't get a toilet.
- 28:51We stop on the side of the road and you use one of those little
- 28:55Dingle hoppers that you put up to the.
- 28:57Oh God. You know what I'm talking about?
- 29:01for women to stand and pee. Pee.
- 29:03Yes, and you got to sanitize your own dinglehopper.
- 29:08Sanitize. Who said anything about that
- 29:10happening? You just throw it in the back.
- 29:13Well, of course, because Meri sucks at math.
- 29:15I was going to, I was going to
- 29:17And then I realized, Chris, that's sexist.
- 29:20Quit talking about girl math, Girl math about food.
- 29:24I want to be respectful. So because she did women math,
- 29:27it took them 16 hours to get word.
- 29:30Should have taken them ten. OK, you know it is what it is.
- 29:34Meri never told us she was a mathematician.
- 29:37Me girl math about food, that's in my mind when I'm doing like
- 29:41this thing's this many calories and this and this, and it's
- 29:44like girl math girl fun time. I just heard about it on the
- 29:49Internet. I don't, I don't know anything.
- 29:50Well, that's probably not even
- 29:53situation, but that's just, you know, my own.
- 29:57No one said you were normal, honey.
- 29:59Now they acknowledge they're slow travelers and that their
- 30:01potty breaks take an hour. Like you said.
- 30:04They arrive at the campsite after dark, which is such great
- 30:07footage. They're rolling into the
- 30:08campsite and Kody says they can't arrive at their evening
- 30:12destinations 4 hours late every night when you didn't even
- 30:16double check your wife's terrible math.
- 30:19There you go. I mean, it's like leaving
- 30:20Janelle in charge of the finances.
- 30:22We left Meri in charge of the road math.
- 30:24I don't know what you expected, Lee.
- 30:28It's all, it's all women math to
- 30:32It's late and Kody still wants
- 30:36And she rolls her eyes in this
- 30:40And it was funny. So we had to have a family
- 30:42meeting at 11:00. 11:00 PM to talk about the schedule in about
- 30:47the 7:00 AM call time. He calls it a call time.
- 30:51Call time, Meri, Meri, Meri. Quite contrary, she says.
- 30:56We left at 8:00 this morning and
- 30:59We have a schedule and Christine
- 31:02doing the teacher voice. Charlie Brown, The Peanuts.
- 31:09She's like the all I'm hearing
- 31:13too at that time after hearing
- 31:17ride for over 8 hours and Janelle is playing with her hair
- 31:24and staring off and she looks exactly like Maddie.
- 31:28Maddie does this exact same thing and Oh my gosh they look
- 31:35like twins. When I saw that I was like, Oh
- 31:38no, this is crazy. I pointed out at this point that
- 31:44for the first time I've noticed Kody's ring and there is some
- 31:47lore around Kody's ring and going from the Clada to perhaps
- 31:55a ring that Christine picked out
- 31:58approved that he wouldn't wear.
- 31:59Then he goes to like this big signet weird ring from the
- 32:03collection that Robyn designs and this is the first time that
- 32:08I've noticed his rings. I do believe that it has a
- 32:12changed and that's all I can say about it 'cause we couldn't
- 32:16really tell. There was 1 clear shot of it and
- 32:21around the time that he changed his ring Season 5 Episode 7,
- 32:26it's noticeable. And it parallels with Christine
- 32:29talking about how it's great that there's a schedule, but
- 32:32that she's probably going to be cranky every night.
- 32:34Maybe she noticed that ring. It was like glistening in the
- 32:38light. And she was like, oh, that
- 32:39bastard. Bastard, I didn't know men could
- 32:48Oh my God. Well, luckily the Browns did get
- 32:58now we're at day 2. Woo Hoo.
- 33:01We've got Meri standing outside of her RV saying I'm hoping
- 33:04we'll stay more on top of our schedule today.
- 33:06It was really late when we got in last night.
- 33:09It was kind of stressful and I was L0L 0L ING.
- 33:14I was like, yes, Meri, Meri, Meri.
- 33:17I hate to say it, but I'm totally Meri on a road trip.
- 33:21I'm like, if you want to get somewhere by a certain time,
- 33:23then you got to get there. Like I don't know what you want.
- 33:28on Day 2, and Meri is a hoping
- 33:32schedule. Yes, they've got to get through
- 33:38Colorado and get to Goodland, KS
- 33:43miles away. So they hit the road, Jack.
- 33:47And they are driving campers called Freedom Elite.
- 33:52Oh, Freedom Elite. Yeah, how very exclusive.
- 33:55This is a joke between my husband and I when we're on a
- 33:58road trip. I, I did this to him one time,
- 34:01like inadvertently we were driving and it was quiet and we
- 34:05were not speaking and I saw a camper pass us and I just like
- 34:10screamed out of nowhere the name
- 34:12Cougar. And Dave like jumped out of his
- 34:15skin and he was like, what the fuck was that?
- 34:17And I was like the name of the camper that just drove by
- 34:20Cougar. And I said it again.
- 34:22So now it's a joke. Whenever we're on a road trip
- 34:25together, we will just randomly yell out the name of like the
- 34:29campers that drive by. And so as soon as I saw the
- 34:33name, I'm like the Freedom Elite, Elite fleet, we got the 2
- 34:41I was a little surprised also to not see them like tape over that
- 34:47Yeah, they had the name of the rental company across the top of
- 34:57Promotional. Nowadays camper company.
- 34:58Shows they're like, block out every word.
- 35:01Yeah. But you know, there's this
- 35:03footage of them in the RV while they're driving of the older
- 35:07kids snacking around a table. And I was thinking, it looks
- 35:11kind of fun. Like I was like, oh, I'd love to
- 35:15let's talk about whatever. And then I was like, well, maybe
- 35:24about how it's chaotic and loud and they don't like it and I can
- 35:29about the lack of space and how loud it is.
- 35:31And then they show a clip of Saul passed out in his car seat
- 35:35while the kids sitting next to him are like all screaming and
- 35:40And there's another shot of a kid like knocking into Aspen and
- 35:46And I'm like, Oh my gosh. So because I never did go on
- 35:50road trips in an RVI think, you know, I know I've been in one
- 35:53while I was driving, but not like across States and stuff.
- 35:57So when I see that, I'm like, oh, I could totally do that, but
- 36:06I cannot even imagine 21 people on a road trip. 21 people.
- 36:12And yet it's like, OK, seven days, 21 people, seven days.
- 36:18Why? Why?
- 36:20They've got all these important my sister wife's closet meetings
- 36:25Apparently. They arrive in Goodland, KS in
- 36:29the late PM and Kody talks about
- 36:33his wives while traveling while they're on the couch having a
- 36:36little spotlight moment and Robyn says that she hates the
- 36:41word rotate. I hate that word I.
- 36:43Hate that word. And then he's like, what word?
- 36:45What? Because what was the other word
- 36:46that he said it was like? Schedule.
- 36:48Schedule. That's right.
- 36:49I schedule rotations with my wives during travel and he's
- 36:54like. Yeah, and she goes, I hate that
- 36:55word. And he goes, what schedule?
- 36:57Like, Oh yeah, no, she hates the
- 37:00So obviously it's rotate. And then they're all, you know,
- 37:02being like, yes, we hate rotate.
- 37:04We hate rotate. Janelle's like Kody gets grumpy
- 37:06when we travel and she just looks so resigned to life like.
- 37:12He gets overwhelmed and he often
- 37:16grumpy and Christine says sometimes she just succumbs to
- 37:23it, like Kody's grumpiness, and other times she tries to turn
- 37:26that attitude around. Honestly, it's like, OK, let's
- 37:30all make excuses for this man's shitty behavior when he
- 37:34travels. Like I don't get it.
- 37:36It's bizarre, bizarro. Yeah, I feel like it seems
- 37:39magnetized because of the number of wives and the women.
- 37:42I mean, I think we've all been on road trips where you can tell
- 37:49there for a little while, hoping that the next time you
- 37:52talk it's a different tone and a different thing.
- 37:55And it would be weird because I do get a sense that Kody feels I
- 38:02later that he feels obligated to have to like, succumb to all
- 38:07these women's things. And it's like, oh, my God, needs
- 38:17I'm, I'm not trying to make excuses for him.
- 38:19I'm just saying everyone gets like that, like on a road trip
- 38:26can I just get a fucking corner by myself for a few minutes?
- 38:30Well, and men are just like a little clueless sometimes as to
- 38:33like the needs of like others around them, especially in
- 38:36situations like that, because if they're the ones driving,
- 38:39they're stressed and they don't understand that other people
- 38:41might be stressed even though they're not driving.
- 38:44I like the first time that we ever took a road trip with a
- 38:50baby, Dave like didn't understand why we couldn't take
- 38:54the baby out to feed him like while driving.
- 38:57And I had to be like, well, that's just never going to
- 39:03happen. And this is like literally
- 39:05illegal. And then when I said it, he's
- 39:07like, oh, well, duh. Like, duh.
- 39:08Why did I think that we could do that?
- 39:11But it's just like sometimes I think men in particular when it
- 39:16comes to travelling, they just get in this other mode.
- 39:20Like I don't even know how to explain it.
- 39:22Like the women that are listening will get it.
- 39:24Like if men, I get it, get in this mode when they're
- 39:27travelling and I'm more like, what's the hurry?
- 39:31Like let's chill out. Let's if people need to stop and
- 39:41would be like pulling the van over and trying to make me like
- 39:44hang my ass over outside of the sliding van door and pee.
- 39:47And I had pee fright. And then it would be like I'm
- 39:51hanging my ass out of the siding door for 30 minutes instead of
- 39:57Like what the fuck? Like, let's just chill out, you
- 40:00know, like why are we rushing this road trip into seven days?
- 40:04I don't know.
- 40:05These people drive me fucking insane.
- 40:08One thing the editors do in this
- 40:11like, that's the end of the day,
- 40:12So now it's day three. It's like, OK, sounds good.
- 40:15We know there was more to that
- 40:18episode and we've got to get through it.
- 40:19So just like this episode is based like their trip, it's like
- 40:23for some reason we have to only show half of it.
- 40:27God. Instead of doing these weird Q
- 40:30and as that they've done before,
- 40:33split some of these episodes? Up right, like a two-part travel
- 40:38episode. But I don't know that they drove
- 40:41back. Just well.
- 40:42I don't know that they drove back.
- 40:43You think they flew back? I find it a little hard to
- 40:46believe that they paid for everyone to fly back.
- 40:48So I could see why they would drive back, but I also don't get
- 40:51why you wouldn't have. Maybe they didn't want
- 40:53production to go back. Maybe it was a cost saver.
- 40:56Like you get back however you get back, you know what I mean?
- 40:59Like we don't want to have the
- 41:01time. That might make sense now for
- 41:04day three. Their goal is to get to
- 41:06Maysville, MO. Maysville, MO.
- 41:10Maysville, MO. 470 miles to go
- 41:16Most of which is Kansas. And that makes me go yawn,
- 41:20boring OMG. Because if you've driven West to
- 41:25east or east to West through Kansas, Oklahoma, the Dakotas,
- 41:29Nebraska, it's just, you know,
- 41:32these states. Not trying to put you down if
- 41:33you live there. You know, please don't leave us
- 41:35a negative review about how I'm talking about driving through
- 41:38the state, but there's a lot of nothing.
- 41:40Rolling grasslands it's. Literally, like I remember one
- 41:43time driving through Nebraska and there was road construction
- 41:45and I was so glad because it made you have to pay attention
- 41:48to like switching left to right and stuff.
- 41:50It was like at least something
- 41:52And so, you know, those, those, those stretches tend to be a
- 41:55bit long. Robyn, Robyn, our hero, she
- 42:00says. Originally we talked about
- 42:01making the trip to Nabu in three
- 42:04Here we are on our third day and
- 42:07There's no way. It's like, yes girl, way to
- 42:13state the obvious. Kody shares his concern about
- 42:17their lack of sleep every evening and the wind.
- 42:21We're in a wind, so we're. The wind is our new character in
- 42:24this episode. So it happens when there's no
- 42:26landscaping. Rolling hills and lots of wind.
- 42:30And Kody, they show a clip of him running from RV to RV as
- 42:34they're hitting the road. Getting started and I was lol
- 42:37ING because as he's running the hair is like blowing in the
- 42:40wind. He looks like a soccer mom
- 42:43running to like their child on
- 42:46Gatorade bottle or something. It was quite the sight.
- 42:50It was really something as they're describing this kind of
- 42:54wind happening. They show footage of the RV's
- 42:57being blown while driving down
- 43:00RV's are being pulled out by the
- 43:04to pull over to figure out what to do.
- 43:06They're catching like sails in
- 43:09Like Christopher crost on OH. Boy, and then we find out about
- 43:14Kody's lack of sleep and that he's only been getting 4 hours
- 43:18of sleep each night so far. And I've been fighting the wind
- 43:22all day. Yep.
- 43:24And I'm just done. It's like, OK, now this is one
- 43:29of my favorite scenes of this episode.
- 43:30Kody goes into the RV to talk to
- 43:34Kody says, can we take a break
- 43:37Now mind you this also, I have
- 43:39really give us enough context clues to how long this has been
- 43:42or anything. Like they hit the road, it's
- 43:43windy, they pulled over. I don't know how long it's been
- 43:46on this day, but Kody says, can we take a break now?
- 43:50And Meri says, no, I'm fine. Kody goes so you just want to
- 43:57constantly drive and Meri said I
- 44:02and I was like Oh my God, Oh my God, I'm so deep.
- 44:05Meri right now Kody's like I have 4 hours of sleep. 4 hours
- 44:10of sleep is not enough. I stopped because I was falling
- 44:13asleep and Meri's like, I'm fine, Kody says.
- 44:20We just have to get a rotation
- 44:23same page at all. And he uses the word rotation
- 44:26again. Rotation and it's funny because
- 44:28he's really just trying to tell her like I'm falling asleep
- 44:32I've been driving too much blah blah blah and she's like I'm
- 44:36cool I'm fine I'm Meri they call me mayor.
- 44:39I'm cool to keep driving forever
- 44:43totally be Meri in this situation.
- 44:45And I'm just like, listen baby boy, have someone else drive,
- 44:48take a catnap, close your eyes, sit in the passenger seat.
- 44:50Like do you have to drive? Well Robyn's dumbass is sitting
- 44:53there like she is a 15 year old without a license like looking
- 45:00over for you Kody. Yeah.
- 45:02No, no, that's not going to. Happen.
- 45:03That's not going to happen, yeah.
- 45:05So Meri wraps up their exchange for the moment by saying So
- 45:08whenever you say the word, I'm good to go.
- 45:11And Kody is so pissed because he's there to say I don't want
- 45:17She is not having any of it. She's just like, whenever you
- 45:20say the word, I'm good to go. And I'm like, Oh my God.
- 45:23So now we get a little couch break from the scene where we're
- 45:30I was too exhausted to delegate. I just wanted to bark orders and
- 45:40And the way he says it is so aggressive and Christine says
- 45:45that's offensive. The word obey and saying that we
- 45:50It's like. She says it's in fact a four
- 45:53letter word, which it actually
- 45:56Obey. So good on her.
- 45:58Pretty clever for Christine. I feel her so hard in this
- 46:03moment and I can't believe she's
- 46:05here, or at least the only one that they show speaking up.
- 46:08And This is why I'm standing her
- 46:12because she is like, that's offensive, OK?
- 46:16Robyn said offensive about rotate.
- 46:19Like, OK, but basically, yeah.
- 46:22He is rotating waves, him telling his wives to obey.
- 46:27It's literally like keep sweet
- 46:30That's like part of what they say all the time.
- 46:33And this is his true colors coming out.
- 46:35This is his true colors. And her saying, I think in her
- 46:40family, like we don't use things
- 46:42We don't say things like that.
- 46:45And the other women are just like keeping quiet.
- 46:48There's also an element to this is what I struggle with with
- 46:50Kody. One of the things I struggle
- 46:52with with Kody is that we're having a couch moment.
- 46:55This is post filming all of this.
- 46:57He once again opens his big fucking stupid mouth and says
- 47:00something like my wife should obey me.
- 47:02It's like, why are you even doing this?
- 47:04And he's getting heated again,
- 47:06Right. It's like, you know, you could
- 47:08explain why you were frustrated in a way that doesn't use
- 47:11language that obviously is going
- 47:14you going this is offensive in a
- 47:17It's literally rude. Well linked to the culture and
- 47:19linked to the religion in an offensive way as well.
- 47:22Like This is why people have a
- 47:28with the sect that you belong to
- 47:32that when it comes to women. And it is offensive.
- 47:35And it's like marriage vows. I'm so happy that women have
- 47:41started saying like, oh, or we're not going to say this,
- 47:44that and the other thing in our marriage vows, like obey, to
- 47:47have and hold whatever. It's like these things that
- 47:52women have been taught for so long and specifically in
- 47:55religion like this. It is fucking offensive and you
- 47:58wonder why people fight back against your beliefs in your
- 48:02religion. Right, right.
- 48:04Kody continues to pontificate or
- 48:08about when he gets grumpy. It's hard for him to be patient
- 48:12and to speak to everyone in a delicate manner.
- 48:17Now we got back to the RV to one
- 48:20And Kody leaves the RV by slamming the door shut.
- 48:23And what does Robyn say, honey?
- 48:26What's wrong and? Meri says I have no idea.
- 48:30And Robyn goes. I'm confused.
- 48:34And I'm going no, you're not. She's just pretending to not
- 48:41know, right? She's pretending to not know so
- 48:44that she's not the one that gets in trouble.
- 48:46And Meri's taking the heat. Yet again, Meri takes the heat
- 48:52At least three times he blows up and blames Meri.
- 48:56And it's mostly he's trying to say it's because she planned the
- 49:07do this. And now he's just blaming her
- 49:09every chance that he gets. And it makes me wonder what's
- 49:12going on behind the scenes and if this is the timing, like
- 49:15where he found out some nefarious things that she was
- 49:19supposedly doing online. I don't know the timeline of
- 49:23that, but he is taking his anger out on her specifically.
- 49:27And then Robyn's just pretending to be all innocent and so
- 49:31confused and. There's totally some connect,
- 49:34not to restate what you said, but with her to be like by not
- 49:44doesn't even know, it's like she doesn't have to hold Kody.
- 49:49She doesn't have to hold Kody accountable.
- 49:53I don't know why that sentence was so hard for me.
- 49:56And even really, like she doesn't have to say to Meri like
- 50:08sorry he spoke to you like that, Meri, or I'm going to go
- 50:12talk to him, or maybe I should go and drive for him.
- 50:16She offers no solutions. She just plays dumb.
- 50:19Yeah, she's doesn't even have to play it most of the time.
- 50:22If I may point out is what Kody does too.
- 50:24Like with the dog situation, he was going to just play dumb and
- 50:29pretend that the dog disappeared and then Meri would
- 50:31have taken the fucking blame for that.
- 50:33We all know that because it's her dog in quotations and if it
- 50:37disappeared it would have been
- 50:40He won't take accountability for
- 50:43the good guy. Robyn won't take accountability
- 50:47for things because she'd rather play stupid and keep sweet and
- 50:50be The Good Wife. There are two peas in a dirty
- 50:55Peapod. Yes, and that was a really good
- 50:57parallel right there. Like putting those out because
- 51:00it's very true. It's yucky.
- 51:02Meri wonders. What's he mad about?
- 51:05Is he mad that I can drive? I'm not tired, I can drive, It's
- 51:09not a big deal. But don't you know, Meri, that
- 51:12women can't drive? Like, come on, of course he's
- 51:16angry. So Kody returns to the RV and
- 51:20says, OK, we're leaving right now.
- 51:23And Meri's like, OK. And I just love it because Meri
- 51:26is not, she's not giving him an inch with this.
- 51:30She is just like, OK, sounds good.
- 51:32Thanks sweetie. All right, PT fucking keen,
- 51:35please choke on a jawbreaker. So good, so good.
- 51:39I was so team married during this whole exchange.
- 51:42I was just like, don't let him
- 51:45let him run everything with his anger.
- 51:48I was just over it. But you've also got your like,
- 51:50best little bitch Robyn sitting next to you, sitting bitch and
- 51:54pretending that she's kind of on
- 51:57Yeah, there was just something
- 52:00way that she was sitting and the
- 52:03like, meet him in the level that
- 52:06The way her wrinkles were like
- 52:10taking any of it. Not a wrinkle.
- 52:15It's the spray tan. The spray tan has set into those
- 52:18little wrinkly rings. Continues to do that.
- 52:21So now we're going to be approaching Topeka, KS.
- 52:24Darling, this is going to be so exciting.
- 52:27Topeka just outside of Topeka,
- 52:30Oh, but you just glossed over this whole thing like they did.
- 52:34They go back to the couch and Kody just reiterates that he was
- 52:39just so exhausted. So let's stop talking about my
- 52:43lack of brain function. And then it's like a bad sitcom
- 52:51where they hit the little tit,
- 52:55You're right, I didn't do that.
- 52:56You just glossed over it like they did.
- 52:58They just literally were like, that's the end of that fight,
- 53:02right? Totally.
- 53:02Like Kody just looked like a crazy person who's insane and
- 53:06bad. And it's like, chalk it up to
- 53:08Kody, me and Kody. Yeah, it's totally even like
- 53:12cartoons and sitcoms, right? Like the absent husband, absent
- 53:15minded husband, the idiot. Yeah, wife eats the shit pie and
- 53:22Typical man for me to just skip over that God.
- 53:24Damn it, Christopher. Please forgive me I had some
- 53:28women math with that Meri found a place when going online to
- 53:32research their trip called Truck Henge Truck.
- 53:35Henge like Stonehenge but better one might say.
- 53:39Far more inspiring, Truck Henge is basically a bunch of trucks
- 53:47Now to give you an idea of the setting before we're introduced
- 53:51to the person who owns and runs Truck Henge, which I'm really
- 53:56struggling with saying, they show us a few shots of these
- 54:01trucks and other vehicles vertical into the ground,
- 54:06surrounded by fields and trees and dumpy looking property.
- 54:12Not manicured, not anything, just kind of like rural vibes
- 54:19with. You mean like rural Topeka, KS?
- 54:23With vehicles sticking out of
- 54:25the ground vertically. It's almost like a tornado went
- 54:29through there and a bunch of vehicles landed in vertical
- 54:33positions, but we meet a national treasure.
- 54:39Yes, we do. One Ron Lessman looking like
- 54:43he's been kicked in a tooth or
- 54:46Kicked in a tooth or two. Ron is wearing AT shirt that
- 54:51says you say psycho like it's a bad thing, written in a fun
- 54:56font. And I was like, oh, Ron, you're
- 54:59just, you're right. He's a treasure.
- 55:01He really is. He tells the story about how
- 55:05Truck Henge came to be and essentially what it boils down
- 55:10to is that the county was sick
- 55:13trash and they told him that he needed to pick up the trucks.
- 55:19Well, the county came with a search warrant and told him he
- 55:23had to pick up his trucks. Now, honey, before we get into
- 55:26some of his storytelling with this incident, how do we
- 55:30describe Ron? Like he's got a crazy beard.
- 55:35Like he looks like the like a a mountain man, but there's no
- 55:38mountains. Like a mountain man slash
- 55:40hippie. Yes, yes.
- 55:42He's a degenerate. He's a degenerate.
- 55:47I know right, like fresh forward
- 55:49That's what a little bit to when
- 55:51like he doesn't trust the government and he's a weirdo and
- 55:54just all of those kind of stereotypes put onto a person.
- 55:57Like he has been kicked to the
- 55:59He's got this crazy mangy beard thing going on.
- 56:03He's wearing this insane shirt
- 56:05it's a bad thing and he looks like he hasn't talked to another
- 56:08human in like 5 years. He looks like a conspiracy
- 56:12theorist. Like he perhaps has a tinfoil or
- 56:15two that fit him very well. Yes, and maybe him or his
- 56:19sister. Wife or his sister.
- 56:21Wife, His sister you wish. Wife he.
- 56:23Fucking wishes he even says so
- 56:26Makes meth in their bathroom or something like it's, it's a
- 56:29look, it's a whole thing. So he tells us the county came
- 56:32with a search warrant and told
- 56:35trucks. Pick them up.
- 56:38So he says. So I picked him up.
- 56:42When he does this, he gestures.
- 56:44How do we describe this honey? He flips the bird with both
- 56:48hands and as he's telling the story about what he does and
- 56:52that he did what the county said and he put them up and he flips
- 56:57off everybody, all of the children, the adults.
- 57:00When he's describing this, like picking them up or putting them
- 57:04up, putting up the trucks, he does that gesture that you do
- 57:07when you're flicking someone off.
- 57:09More than just putting up like flipping the bird, he's like
- 57:12taking his hand and putting it into his elbow and shoving his
- 57:18I'm pretty sure that's like a British thing like that.
- 57:21Super offensive like over in the UK.
- 57:24Too If it's British but it's like a it's more than just
- 57:28flipping the bird with your hand.
- 57:30It's like middle finger up in the air, hand in elbow, blah
- 57:34blah blah. It's this big dramatic gesture.
- 57:37Hand in your ditch.
- 57:38Hand in the ditch. Of your elbow, that's what they
- 57:41call it when you get tattooed there.
- 57:43The ditch. The ditch, the ditch, and then
- 57:46there's the truck in the ditch
- 57:48And they blur out his middle finger in his hand because of
- 57:52course it's obscene. And so he does this gesture when
- 57:55telling this story to the whole family.
- 57:57Like it's a little out of nowhere.
- 58:00It's unexpected, and it looks crazy.
- 58:02It looks insane. But the children don't react as
- 58:05horribly as I would have expected because they they go on
- 58:09and on about Logan swearing in
- 58:14you've got this guy like flipping the bird, but not even
- 58:17just like flipping the bird. He's doing like the arm and hand
- 58:20movement with it. That's like super meant to be
- 58:23more aggressive and more offensive than just solo birds
- 58:28and the children have a little
- 58:31Yeah, it's like they're just telling the story.
- 58:34Of course, TLC, what they're blurring does make it even more
- 58:37dramatic, I think. But, you know, Ron continues
- 58:41with his story. They tried to bring public
- 58:43nuisance charges in court and I said, your honor, they told me
- 58:48to put him up, so I picked him
- 58:50So I put him up. It's like, oh God.
- 58:55And then he does the arm gestures again as if he was in
- 58:58court, giving the middle finger and gesturing to the judge.
- 59:02Literally every time that he says put him up, he flips the
- 59:05bird and flips off the children and the dogs and the parents
- 59:10and every other bug and bird and
- 59:16It's like, Oh no, so offensive, as Christine points out.
- 59:21Yes, very offensive. So then there's a photo
- 59:24opportunity for Aspen to stand
- 59:28other side is Maddie and Tara,
- 59:32They're standing in a row and they're all flipping off the
- 59:35camera, laughing. And Christine goes, are darling
- 59:39teenagers. Darling teenagers.
- 59:43Kody takes this moment to look
- 59:46idea I was raising a bunch of hippies while giving a peace
- 59:50sign. And it's like, yeah, that's.
- 59:53What the hippies do. I guess the hippies just flip
- 59:56off cameras. I don't know, just Kody.
- 1:00:00He's just an idiot. The best part of this scene for
- 1:00:04me is that Truly on like the side of the camera, like on the
- 1:00:10left side is like chasing the dog and trying to grab the dog's
- 1:00:15tail repeatedly. And you got like bald truly and
- 1:00:18she's tall at this point. Like you got tall little bald
- 1:00:21truly and she's like trying to
- 1:00:26And it's one of the cutest, like
- 1:00:29And I just couldn't not look at it.
- 1:00:32It was fucking adorable but also
- 1:00:35That is funny. She's just so cute.
- 1:00:38And so we go back to the couch
- 1:00:44and he found him super entertaining and he just loves
- 1:00:48farmer style hoarding. And Christine is offended,
- 1:00:56Offended she didn't like him. She's like, is this real?
- 1:01:00Really? No, no, no.
- 1:01:03Yeah, Well, this is going on. The families, like, exploring
- 1:01:05the truck are like, they're going around and taking photos
- 1:01:08in front of the, like, various
- 1:01:10of the ground and kind of like
- 1:01:14pit stop, blah, blah, blah. And Christine is talking about
- 1:01:16how he lives in the middle of nowhere and he hates the
- 1:01:20government. Kody just thinks that this is so
- 1:01:22funny. And Kody goes, well, they told
- 1:01:25him to put him up. So he put him up.
- 1:01:27And then Kody flips the camera
- 1:01:30Christine goes, Oh my God, you
- 1:01:34You just flipped people off. Yes, yes.
- 1:01:36So. Funny, she's like offended on
- 1:01:39the behalf of the audience of all the TLC fans that are
- 1:01:42watching. Like you flipped them off.
- 1:01:45And it's like we're on a soundstage.
- 1:01:47Oh no. Yeah, and we get some more, you
- 1:01:50know, details about Ron's feelings and Ron's beliefs.
- 1:01:54And he says something along the lines, if you want to have five
- 1:01:57wives, it's the American way. Like OK, do what you.
- 1:02:04Want. Nobody should care.
- 1:02:05You should be able to do what you want.
- 1:02:07That's the American way. That's the American way.
- 1:02:10It's like, all right. But he is telling the kids this,
- 1:02:12like as he's saying this in the clip that they show, he's kind
- 1:02:15of walking with a few of the boys, like not the young, young
- 1:02:19boys, but like the medium age boys.
- 1:02:23And he's like telling them, I just think that you should be
- 1:02:26able to do what you want. That's America.
- 1:02:28And so in a way, I do think that
- 1:02:33the family. Like, yes, he's doing this crazy
- 1:02:36thing and Christine's like, is
- 1:02:39He's really acting this way with
- 1:02:42and the that. But it's like you are too, lady.
- 1:02:45Like you are flipping off the government in your own way
- 1:02:48because they don't believe that plural marriage is recognized
- 1:02:52in the law of the United States.
- 1:02:54So like you're giving a bird. This guy's giving a bird kind of
- 1:03:01I do. The thing that stood out to me
- 1:03:03about his example is like, if you want to have five wives,
- 1:03:05it's the American way. And it's like Kody has four
- 1:03:08wives. Yeah, like this guy is like high
- 1:03:11off the grass growing underneath
- 1:03:13Seriously, he's his message. Yes, the root of it might be
- 1:03:17good, but Oh my gosh, it's a little Cray Cray.
- 1:03:20Yeah, he is smoking. What is growing inside of the
- 1:03:25perfect, perfect greenhouse, which is one of those trucks
- 1:03:28swooped upside down, the devil's
- 1:03:31Oh God, under one of those trucks and just this man, I I'm
- 1:03:35just, he's probably in heaven out in truck hedge.
- 1:03:39And yes, his triage, yes, Kody
- 1:03:44entertained like you're saying, and he was entertained and it
- 1:03:48sounds like a much needed breather from the driving.
- 1:03:50Yeah, and then they cut out to
- 1:03:54on one of the trucks, like he's allowing them to all graffiti
- 1:03:58the trucks before they leave. It's art, honey.
- 1:04:00It's art to him. It sure is.
- 1:04:03Then the Browns hit the road again.
- 1:04:05And then they get into the Pony Express RV Park.
- 1:04:08Very late Pony Express Shout out
- 1:04:13Are they still open? Let us know.
- 1:04:16Yeah. Are you around?
- 1:04:17Can we stop in with? The brown curse after we hitting
- 1:04:21the Pony Express RV park. Yes, Kody looks absolutely
- 1:04:26exhausted. Robyn tells us that the hotel is
- 1:04:2912 miles away. And then Kody's upset because he
- 1:04:32didn't know this. We didn't know that he would
- 1:04:34have to like drop everyone off
- 1:04:37go to the hotel that's 12 miles away.
- 1:04:40It seems like not a big deal, but also I guess after the end
- 1:04:42of a long day you don't want to drive 12 miles and then
- 1:04:44probably drive back so. Well, it looks like he's being
- 1:04:47made to set up some stuff with
- 1:04:50he's probably on the rotation to
- 1:04:55So he's like pissed because he's
- 1:04:58campsite and then he goes, I'll be going to bed at one or two.
- 1:05:01AM again tonight or Kody? And so Kody approaches the RV
- 1:05:06with Meri in the passenger seat and opens the door.
- 1:05:11And Kody says, I don't plan on
- 1:05:14because I'm done. And Meri goes, I don't think you
- 1:05:17need to be barking at me about
- 1:05:21You're going at it again. So bad, I'm ready to stop
- 1:05:27camping. And we haven't even gotten there
- 1:05:29yet. It's like, yeah, OK, You're
- 1:05:31referring to it as camping again, which I guess maybe some
- 1:05:34people are camping, but everyone's tired and frustrated.
- 1:05:37Yeah, like they're all tired and
- 1:05:39They're all on the same journey.
- 1:05:40Well, Christine even says like Kody, you're the only one
- 1:05:44complaining. They have to have another adult
- 1:05:46meeting, of course, where Kody says he needs more sleep at
- 1:05:50night and Christine goes, good call, we need to fix it from
- 1:05:53here on out. And Meri says, we say that every
- 1:05:59And I'm like, yes, Meri, I am So
- 1:06:04everyone wants to talk about things being different.
- 1:06:06No one wants to talk about how
- 1:06:08Like fucking shut up. Like if I was Meri, I'd be like,
- 1:06:11Yep, everyone says that every night and nothing ever changes.
- 1:06:15So true, Meri. And then Kody suggests that they
- 1:06:19have planned too much. Oh boy.
- 1:06:22And. Christine responds by saying
- 1:06:23they've basically planned to do nothing but drive.
- 1:06:27Which is totally true. They went to Truck Henge and
- 1:06:31they have been driving non-stop and they're pony.
- 1:06:35Stop. Pony.
- 1:06:35Express pawn shop. Pawn shop in Utah, The Pony
- 1:06:39Express. They're going pee every now and
- 1:06:42then for an hour at a time. They literally have planned
- 1:06:45very, very little and Kody is suggesting they plan too much.
- 1:06:50What a shock. And Kody says, well, I can't go
- 1:06:53every single night with four hours of sleep.
- 1:06:56And Christine's like, well, Kody, you're the only one
- 1:06:58complaining. We're all trying to make it
- 1:07:00work. And I'm just like, what's the
- 1:07:02fucking rush? Why is this the way that it is?
- 1:07:06You know, unless it's for like
- 1:07:10is like no budget to do this longer.
- 1:07:13If this is summer break, which
- 1:07:17does this have to be a seven day
- 1:07:19Why is there three days of travel one way, one day at your
- 1:07:24destination, which is, Oh my God, we're going back to our
- 1:07:28homeland? Our Jerusalem.
- 1:07:31Our Jerusalem. And you're planning it and like
- 1:07:36making this trip so quick and now you're all arguing and
- 1:07:38you're fighting. Like what is the rush?
- 1:07:41What's the rush? I don't get it.
- 1:07:43This is where Kody gathers everyone for a prayer.
- 1:07:46Darling, speak to God. Kody.
- 1:07:49Kody. Kody calls a prayer circle.
- 1:07:53Kody And he points out to us that when he's getting close to
- 1:07:57losing his temper, it's a good
- 1:08:01don't hurt other people's feelings calling on God.
- 1:08:05He's calling on God to help him maintain his peaceful
- 1:08:09disposition. Yes, yeah, because Kody has such
- 1:08:14a peaceful disposition and he gives us some more, you know,
- 1:08:17therapy speak, but whatever. It's like in a family like ours,
- 1:08:22it's important to keep things emotionally safe.
- 1:08:25And I'm far from good at this,
- 1:08:30And Meri is on the couch tearing
- 1:08:33Odd. She's like trying not to cry.
- 1:08:36Is it, do you think, because she's like aware that everyone
- 1:08:41was frustrated and it was terrible, or is she moved that
- 1:08:43he's like talking about calling on God?
- 1:08:46I think that this is one of those moments where there's more
- 1:08:50going on behind the scenes than we know about.
- 1:08:52And who knows when they're recording the actual couch
- 1:08:56interviews and the fact that he's talking about calling on
- 1:09:00God. I don't know what she's
- 1:09:02thinking, but she is tearing up.
- 1:09:04And they show it probably on purpose to be like, oh, he's
- 1:09:08such a good family man. He's calling on God.
- 1:09:10He's calling his family around to pray right now to make it
- 1:09:12through this. Like, oh God, I just want to
- 1:09:18talk about how ridiculous that is.
- 1:09:21First of all, we're calling on the Lord baby Jesus to get us
- 1:09:24through this road trip that we planned that we're rushing
- 1:09:28through. But also like his wife is
- 1:09:31tearing up about it. I just, I can't with these
- 1:09:35people. I just can't.
- 1:09:36It's a little bizarre. I remember noting it or noticing
- 1:09:42Because I don't think that there is really technically a reason
- 1:09:54Well, he definitely is special, but not for reasons that they
- 1:09:59might be trying to make us think.
- 1:10:01So, darling, I feel like this is a good time to take a break to
- 1:10:07Maybe we could go call on God and ask Him for some favors and
- 1:10:12some direction so we can recalibrate and come back next
- 1:10:17We're going to start on Day 4 of this road trip.
- 1:10:20Remember, they were going to be there in three days.
- 1:10:23Tomorrow we're starting Day 4 for Part 2, 2 of this episode.
- 1:10:34about to open. Yes.
- 1:10:35I'll say a little prayer for you.
- 1:10:38See you next week.
