Transcript
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for writing success.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Even though this podcast is called the Daily Rider, the reality is that many people don't write every single day.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: They might set aside time every couple of days or once a week to work on their writing.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: Now I want you to know that this is a totally legitimate approach to writing.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: You shouldn't take the concept of the daily writer too literally.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: The main point is to write regularly, whatever that looks like for your schedule.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: The more you write on a regular basis, the better you'll be, so try and make sure that you're writing at least once a week, hopefully more than once a week, but I think once a week is like the absolute minimum that you can write and really maintain your skills.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Now, there are some writing that I don't do on a daily basis, but I do it weekly.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: For example, I write material for this podcast once every week or two.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: I write a bunch of episodes worth of content at the same time because I'm in that mental mode, I'm in that mental space, and it goes a lot quicker than if I were to try and set aside 10 or 15 minutes every day to write and record a single episode.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: This is called batching your work, and it's a really great productivity principle.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: Do similar kinds of work or write similar kinds of content at the same time because you're in that mental space already.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: And you can do this with email, book content, podcasts, blogs, or anything else.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: So give this a try and see how it will improve your writing output.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Here's your daily question: How can you consolidate your writing into batches during the week to help you be more productive?
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: If you've been listening to this show for any length of time, you know that one of the four practices of a great writer is creativity.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: And in order to stay creative, you've got to have great input.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: And that's where writing prompts come in.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: A writing prompt is a sentence or two that helps you break through creative blocks, brainstorm new ideas, and get back into a state of flow.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: Writing prompts are an awesome creative tool for journaling, storytelling, creative writing, stress relief, social media posts, and so much more.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: But the great news is that you don't have to create these yourself.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: We've put together an amazing package of 365 daily writing prompts.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: So every day for the next year, you can have a shot of inspiration delivered straight to your inbox.
