- 0:19Speaker 1: What we were seeking to do in pro free agency
- 0:22Speaker 1: was to raise the four this football team, and every
- 0:26Speaker 1: player that we pursued and that we've now acquired is
- 0:30Speaker 1: meeting that standard and by being nothing more than who
- 0:33Speaker 1: they are and who we know them to be, both
- 0:35Speaker 1: on and off the field, they're gonna do exactly what
- 0:38Speaker 1: we would hope they do, and that's level up this ecosystem.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Welcome to Dad, Jam, I'm kind Annie Stephens, Brian Sexton,
- 0:47Speaker 2: John Osier with me today as we're gonna go over
- 0:49Speaker 2: appropriate agency that went official last week, and we're gonna
- 0:52Speaker 2: do a sneak peak of the draft coming up as well.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Let's go through our big things today. For you. First
- 0:57Speaker 2: big thing, it's gonna be intangibly rich. That's something we've
- 0:59Speaker 2: heard from general manager James Gladstone throughout this process. Brian,
- 1:03Speaker 2: there's ninety players coming into town. Not all of them
- 1:06Speaker 2: are huge names, but a lot of this is about
- 1:08Speaker 2: getting in guys here that they know they can work
- 1:11Speaker 2: with or they've worked with before and kind of set
- 1:13Speaker 2: the standards for things.
- 1:14Speaker 3: You know, Ky, that was my favorite phrase from Gladstone's
- 1:17Speaker 3: introductory press conference, and he used another one there ecosystem,
- 1:22Speaker 3: which is another word for culture, and he was looking
- 1:25Speaker 3: to bring in guys who would change the tenor of
- 1:28Speaker 3: the building in subtle ways just by the way they
- 1:31Speaker 3: go about their business. And obviously he and Liam Cohen
- 1:35Speaker 3: both had some ties to these guys, some of the
- 1:37Speaker 3: other coaches on the staff did. And I love the
- 1:39Speaker 3: fact that he said it, and he made the promise
- 1:42Speaker 3: that was what they were going to do, and he
- 1:44Speaker 3: delivered in free agency. And John, I know you think
- 1:47Speaker 3: about this because you've been hammering this team for years
- 1:50Speaker 3: about what they do in free agency, about spending, and
- 1:53Speaker 3: they went a completely different way.
- 1:56Speaker 4: They spent moderate spending on the guys who are gonna
- 2:00Speaker 4: be starters, the two offensive linemen, Jommy Brown, a receiver,
- 2:06Speaker 4: Jordan Lewis, guys like that. Beyond that, they went after
- 2:10Speaker 4: what Gladstone thinks of as these intangibly rich guys. I
- 2:14Speaker 4: don't you know, ecosystem is culture, intangibly rich. I'm still
- 2:19Speaker 4: getting my arms around exact what that means. But I
- 2:22Speaker 4: think here's the thing, h James Gladstone knows what it means.
- 2:26Speaker 4: He knows what he's looking for. He has the ability
- 2:29Speaker 4: to enunciate that to everybody else, to make sure that
- 2:35Speaker 4: they know what he's looking for. He's always thinking about it.
- 2:39Speaker 4: He's always bringing in that type of guy. And I
- 2:42Speaker 4: think it is significant that a lot of these guys
- 2:44Speaker 4: are with the Vikings, with the Buccaneers, with the Rams,
- 2:46Speaker 4: places where Liam Cohane and James Gladstone, I mean, James
- 2:51Speaker 4: Gladstone and Grant Yudinsky have been before.
- 2:55Speaker 3: There's a familiarity there.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Absolutely. Our second big thing today is gonna be open spots. Now.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Certain were targeted and free agency. We saw a lot
- 3:02Speaker 2: of offensive lines some players coming in there, but not
- 3:05Speaker 2: so much on the other side of football in terms
- 3:07Speaker 2: of the edge or pass rushers there. But James Gladstone
- 3:09Speaker 2: address up.
- 3:12Speaker 5: Yeah, we got ten picks in this year's draft. We're
- 3:15Speaker 5: gonna have to have some spots that are actually open
- 3:17Speaker 5: for them to insert. So, you know, if you add
- 3:20Speaker 5: a veteran at this point could be just.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Standing in the way. We're gonna allow these rookies to,
- 3:25Speaker 1: you know, get a chance to get out on the
- 3:26Speaker 1: field and help us this coming fall, perhaps stoking the.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Fire a little bit there. Obviously, John, we don't know
- 3:32Speaker 2: exactly what they're gonna do with the draft, but we
- 3:34Speaker 2: know any successful team is built through the draft, So
- 3:36Speaker 2: talking a little bit about drafting and having them play
- 3:39Speaker 2: right away, that's clearly gonna be a focus for this team.
- 3:41Speaker 4: Yeah, and I think the places that were left during
- 3:46Speaker 4: the you know, left of field or in the draft,
- 3:49Speaker 4: third edge rusher. I'll talk about it later, but I
- 3:52Speaker 4: think they still need a receiver in that front group. Secondary.
- 3:57Speaker 4: They're all places, Brian, where they have their starters, their
- 4:02Speaker 4: rotational positions. There are places where guys play a lot.
- 4:06Speaker 4: That next nickelback, the next receiver in the rotation, the
- 4:10Speaker 4: next edge rusher, you can go get them. If the
- 4:12Speaker 4: draft falls your way, you might see the first edge
- 4:16Speaker 4: you know, the third edge rusher be the five overall pick.
- 4:19Speaker 4: If it doesn't go that way, edge rusher, guess what,
- 4:22Speaker 4: that's usually a guy that you can pick up a
- 4:25Speaker 4: veteran in June. There's some guys that you can pick
- 4:28Speaker 4: up after the draft in those spots and rotate. So
- 4:31Speaker 4: I think that's sort of the spirit of this. You
- 4:34Speaker 4: don't want to fill spots where you bring in a
- 4:36Speaker 4: guy who you draft and you can't play, but you
- 4:38Speaker 4: want to make sure that guy has an opportunity to
- 4:41Speaker 4: develop at the right pace.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Our habit in the media is to focus on the
- 4:46Speaker 3: first round pick right at number five, And at number five,
- 4:50Speaker 3: the Jaguars could go any number of directions. There will
- 4:52Speaker 3: be a top cornerback available, there will be a top
- 4:55Speaker 3: defensive tackle available. The pass rusher from Georgia behind a
- 4:59Speaker 3: dual carter from p State is likely to be sitting
- 5:01Speaker 3: there available, and any number of offensive linemen, whether the
- 5:05Speaker 3: Campbell kid from LSU or the Membu from a Missouri
- 5:09Speaker 3: young man. There's a lot of opportunities at five. But
- 5:12Speaker 3: what about where you're picking in the second round and
- 5:14Speaker 3: the third round, where you have two picks, you can
- 5:17Speaker 3: find really good offensive lineman. You can find really good
- 5:21Speaker 3: football players across the spectrum sitting on Day two, Night two,
- 5:26Speaker 3: in round two and three, and I'd love it if
- 5:30Speaker 3: we could focus some there. It's harder to project because
- 5:33Speaker 3: you don't know exactly as you start getting into one
- 5:35Speaker 3: hundred players where everybody fits in, what teams think about them.
- 5:39Speaker 3: But when you look at where the Jaguars are picking
- 5:41Speaker 3: in round two, in round three, Ky, they're going to
- 5:44Speaker 3: have the chance to fill a number of spots.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Absolutely, They're gonna have a ton of flexibility there, which
- 5:48Speaker 2: will be good to see. Our final big thing today
- 5:50Speaker 2: is going to be forward focus. We talked a lot
- 5:52Speaker 2: in the off season about what a rebuilt here is
- 5:54Speaker 2: going to look like, whether it be a quick or
- 5:57Speaker 2: more longer term thing. As we're seeing the lay of
- 5:59Speaker 2: the ground work now, Brian, does it feel like it's
- 6:02Speaker 2: not necessarily as much a focus as doing this in
- 6:05Speaker 2: a year as doing it the correct way.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Well, here's the beautiful part about it. They are focused
- 6:10Speaker 3: on doing it the right way, and in doing it
- 6:12Speaker 3: the right way with the players that are here, there's
- 6:15Speaker 3: a chance for them to get right back into that
- 6:17Speaker 3: eight to nine win category, which in the AFC South
- 6:20Speaker 3: I believe would put them in the running for the
- 6:22Speaker 3: division title. Are they going to do that this year?
- 6:24Speaker 3: I don't know, But there's the short term ability if
- 6:28Speaker 3: the quarterback raises his level of play for them to
- 6:32Speaker 3: be able to capitalize in the first year of a
- 6:35Speaker 3: long term vision. If you go and talk to Liam
- 6:38Speaker 3: or James or Tony, they're gonna tell you we want
- 6:40Speaker 3: to win this year, but they're also going to say,
- 6:43Speaker 3: but our focus is on a three to five year plan,
- 6:46Speaker 3: so that when the stadium is up and running, we've
- 6:48Speaker 3: got a long term, sustainable, winning football team to fill
- 6:53Speaker 3: this building and to build pro football. I think you
- 6:55Speaker 3: can do both.
- 6:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I think clearly that's what free agency is about.
- 7:00Speaker 4: Le Get guys in who will. As James Glaston said,
- 7:05Speaker 4: raise the floor gets you better at some spots where
- 7:08Speaker 4: you felt like you were weak. I'm not gonna lean
- 7:11Speaker 4: too much of this offseason. In fact, they lost so
- 7:13Speaker 4: many close games last year, but there is a thought, hey,
- 7:16Speaker 4: get that floor up. Win a few of those close games.
- 7:19Speaker 4: All of a sudden, you're back to five hundred. If
- 7:21Speaker 4: the quarterback improves, if he develops, which is, you know,
- 7:24Speaker 4: at its core, the whole thing. If he doesn't, then
- 7:27Speaker 4: not a lot of his other stuff matters for next year.
- 7:29Speaker 4: If he does, then you're in good shape. But I
- 7:31Speaker 4: think the moves they've made can get you back to
- 7:34Speaker 4: what Brian talked about, that nine win playing in December
- 7:38Speaker 4: for something, and maybe you get a lot better than
- 7:40Speaker 4: you thought you were going to be.
- 7:41Speaker 3: But it's about.
- 7:42Speaker 4: Sustainable, you know, three to five years. Yes, they believe
- 7:46Speaker 4: this is supposed to be about sustainable for the long
- 7:49Speaker 4: term future.
- 7:50Speaker 2: All right, stay with us here on Jack's Samill hear
- 7:52Speaker 2: from some of those new free agents and why they
- 7:53Speaker 2: chose to come to Jacks.
- 8:04Speaker 3: I think there's a lot of new potential and opportunities here,
- 8:09Speaker 3: you know.
- 8:09Speaker 6: I think looking at the roster, looking at the coaches,
- 8:11Speaker 6: hearing what they're trying to do here, that's something I
- 8:15Speaker 6: wanted to be a part of a change, you know,
- 8:17Speaker 6: and I hope I could do my part.
- 8:18Speaker 3: I want to do my part.
- 8:19Speaker 7: I want to win football games and.
- 8:22Speaker 5: Get that done.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Nine new players, McCary coming from the Ravens. He's played
- 8:28Speaker 2: all five offensive line positions, and we talk a lot
- 8:30Speaker 2: about culture, changing, the ecosystem, whatever you want to call it.
- 8:33Speaker 2: I'm excited. I'm most excited to see what the offensive
- 8:35Speaker 2: line room kind of turns into. Obviously when you get
- 8:38Speaker 2: a good turnover of players there. There were some great
- 8:40Speaker 2: players there before Mitch Morse retiring. Of course, Brandon Sheriff
- 8:44Speaker 2: becoming a free agent this year, so I think things
- 8:47Speaker 2: will be different this year, and we want to start there.
- 8:49Speaker 2: We've talked about the trenches for months and months and months,
- 8:51Speaker 2: so to kind of set the tone there and be
- 8:54Speaker 2: able to kind of redo that room. Excited to see it.
- 8:56Speaker 3: You know, you're taking a player out of the ecosystem,
- 8:59Speaker 3: he's in, but they bring with them part of the Ravens.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Back in the day, Tom Coffin liked to sign Steelers
- 9:06Speaker 3: right because he liked the mentality. Leon Searusly brought a lot.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Dion Figures, the cornerback, brought a lot to that side
- 9:12Speaker 3: of the ball. I'm excited for McCary. It was an
- 9:15Speaker 3: undrafted rookie who started all along the line and earned
- 9:19Speaker 3: this big contract. But because the Ravens have a sustained
- 9:24Speaker 3: culture of winning, you know, you don't always think about them.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Although in recent years with Lamar Jackson, you know, they've
- 9:30Speaker 3: been deep into the playoffs. But if you go back
- 9:33Speaker 3: to nineteen ninety seven, their first year in Baltimore, since then,
- 9:37Speaker 3: there were some rocky years early, they've been one of
- 9:39Speaker 3: the winning his franchises in football. They're just quietly consistent,
- 9:44Speaker 3: and this guy looks like one of those players that
- 9:47Speaker 3: goes about his business in the right way, in that
- 9:50Speaker 3: Raven way. Is something you'd like to see of here
- 9:52Speaker 3: in Jacksonville.
- 9:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know that in terms of, you know,
- 9:58Speaker 4: the sacred pff raids that this line is going to
- 10:04Speaker 4: be that much, you know, better individually than the line before.
- 10:09Speaker 4: But I think it's going to have a different feel
- 10:12Speaker 4: and a different mentality. It clearly the idea, get this
- 10:18Speaker 4: team to be able to run on third and short. Better,
- 10:20Speaker 4: get this team to run when it matters better, and
- 10:23Speaker 4: then if you do that, it sets up so much
- 10:25Speaker 4: in the passing game, all the football one on one stuff.
- 10:28Speaker 4: I think that is what you're you're looking for out
- 10:31Speaker 4: of Hainsey and McCary. Can they bring you a little
- 10:35Speaker 4: bit more of an edge where you feel more confident
- 10:37Speaker 4: in that must run and Kay, you and I watched
- 10:40Speaker 4: games in the press box for the last two years.
- 10:42Speaker 4: How many times have I looked at you and said, boy,
- 10:44Speaker 4: third and one seems like a long way. They need
- 10:47Speaker 4: to have that feel shorter.
- 10:49Speaker 3: That's this offensive line's job.
- 10:50Speaker 2: And I think that we talk about that feeling a lot.
- 10:52Speaker 2: You want to be able to be confident in that.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Right we're upstairs thinking that, I don't think they're going
- 10:56Speaker 2: to get it.
- 10:57Speaker 4: Well. Defensive coordinators pick up on that, and so you
- 11:00Speaker 4: change your defense when you know the other team doesn't
- 11:02Speaker 4: feel confident running and you can stop that.
- 11:06Speaker 3: When you can't do that.
- 11:07Speaker 4: It limits your play calling so much offensively if they're
- 11:10Speaker 4: better there.
- 11:11Speaker 3: Brian they're better everywhere. Listen, I know the quarterback is
- 11:13Speaker 3: the number one story, but one b is the offensive
- 11:17Speaker 3: line giving him a running game that to me is
- 11:20Speaker 3: as important. In fact, that may be the reason that
- 11:23Speaker 3: he develops this year, is if they've got the ability
- 11:26Speaker 3: to convert on third and short or just to be
- 11:29Speaker 3: able to run the ball consistently. If you go back
- 11:31Speaker 3: and look at what Liam Cohen did last year. In
- 11:33Speaker 3: his year with the Buccaneers, they were a bottom five
- 11:36Speaker 3: running game. In twenty twenty three, they were a top
- 11:38Speaker 3: five running game in twenty twenty four. They did get
- 11:40Speaker 3: the rookie running back who came in and contributed in
- 11:42Speaker 3: a big way, but they also had the same offensive line.
- 11:46Speaker 3: I guess a rookie center step didn't played pretty well too.
- 11:48Speaker 3: You can make some changes, you can massage things, and
- 11:51Speaker 3: if you could get these guys from bottom of the
- 11:52Speaker 3: league on third down and short to somewhere in the
- 11:55Speaker 3: middle of the pack, that would be a huge jump on.
- 11:59Speaker 2: The opposite side of the fall. One of the bigger
- 12:01Speaker 2: signings Jordan Lewis coming from the Cowboys as a cornerback.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Just the tone he's going to set as a trash
- 12:07Speaker 2: talker of course, but also just in general with the defense.
- 12:10Speaker 2: He talked a little bit about why ch was Jacksonville.
- 12:13Speaker 7: We were talking about, you know, just building the culture,
- 12:16Speaker 7: you know, and being a a a cornerstone of that
- 12:19Speaker 7: that that rebuilding. I've always wanted to be a guy
- 12:22Speaker 7: to you know, be known for that, you know, be
- 12:25Speaker 7: known for a culture, and be known to you know,
- 12:28Speaker 7: change culture. So I I I love a a good
- 12:31Speaker 7: competition and I love a good challenge. So I feel
- 12:34Speaker 7: like this was the perfect place for me to go
- 12:36Speaker 7: out there and show that I belong in the NFL
- 12:40Speaker 7: and belonged and to be as one, you know, known
- 12:42Speaker 7: as one of the guys that you know, changed the culture.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Johnny think it always can be a little bit telling
- 12:47Speaker 2: when you see what the former fan base has to
- 12:49Speaker 2: say about him. And I think just the general vibe
- 12:53Speaker 2: that I'm getting, at least from what Cowboys fans are
- 12:55Speaker 2: saying and in media that cover him, is you know,
- 12:57Speaker 2: he's worked for and earned every little bit, and that
- 13:00Speaker 2: his role in the defense in Dallas was really underrated
- 13:03Speaker 2: in the way that he kind of held everything together there.
- 13:06Speaker 4: Yeah, he's a good player and he makes plays on
- 13:08Speaker 4: the ball, and I think more than anything. Lewis and
- 13:13Speaker 4: Murray they needed guys they trusted back there. They're clearly
- 13:18Speaker 4: not going to be here in twenty twenty eight, right
- 13:21Speaker 4: they're older players. Maybe they will be, but the odds
- 13:24Speaker 4: are there not. So they are guys who you feel
- 13:28Speaker 4: better about lining up with immediately. There are a lot
- 13:32Speaker 4: of misassignments last year in the secondary, some scheme stuff whatever.
- 13:37Speaker 4: They felt like they needed to get more solid back
- 13:40Speaker 4: there and have more guys they could trust.
- 13:42Speaker 3: Jordan Lewis's I even trust. If you want an indication
- 13:45Speaker 3: of his ability to change the culture, he just showed you.
- 13:48Speaker 3: He just said it to you. He's a guy who
- 13:51Speaker 3: wants to prove that he belongs in the NFL. He's
- 13:53Speaker 3: been in the NFL for eight years, right, He played
- 13:57Speaker 3: at Michigan and for the Dallas Boys the last twelve years.
- 14:02Speaker 3: This is a guy or eleven years. This is a
- 14:04Speaker 3: guy who has belonged on the biggest stage for a
- 14:07Speaker 3: very long time, and yet he still feels the need
- 14:09Speaker 3: to remind you that he wants to prove himself.
- 14:12Speaker 2: I like that.
- 14:12Speaker 3: I like that kind of guy on the back end,
- 14:14Speaker 3: because you've got to do that every single play, regardless
- 14:17Speaker 3: of what happened to play before, but they need an
- 14:20Speaker 3: injection and infusion of that in this locker room.
- 14:24Speaker 2: As we talk about the scene, we always say it
- 14:26Speaker 2: will go as Trevor goes. So focus on the quarterback
- 14:29Speaker 2: is going to be huge this year. Of course, Swilliam
- 14:31Speaker 2: Cohen was brought in, but Micmullins also coming in quarterback,
- 14:34Speaker 2: having worked with Grant Yedinsky in Minnesota before, so it
- 14:37Speaker 2: kind of knows the system. Excited to get to work
- 14:39Speaker 2: with Trevor.
- 14:41Speaker 8: He's done a lot of really successful things. He shot
- 14:44Speaker 8: every tool in the bag that you need to be successful.
- 14:48Speaker 8: So I told him, like, I'm here to help you
- 14:49Speaker 8: as much as as much as you like. I like
- 14:52Speaker 8: to think that my familiarity with the system and concepts
- 14:55Speaker 8: that we're going to run and the way to operate.
- 14:57Speaker 8: I feel like that's going to be beneficial or Trevor
- 15:00Speaker 8: in the whole room and I can't wait to get started.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Ryan has backup quarterback. But having some people around you
- 15:08Speaker 2: familiar with everything so then when you're learning something new,
- 15:10Speaker 2: that's another new system for Trevor Lawrence to be learning
- 15:12Speaker 2: on offense. But having all those pieces in place has
- 15:15Speaker 2: to be helpful.
- 15:15Speaker 3: And this is a system guy. I mean he worked
- 15:18Speaker 3: with Kevin O'Connell in Minnesota, who comes from that tree
- 15:21Speaker 3: out of Los Angeles. He has been a part of it.
- 15:28Speaker 3: Good move. I don't know what else to say.
- 15:29Speaker 4: Yeah, and I thought you did a nice job in
- 15:32Speaker 4: his availability. Let's hope that was two availabilities, his first
- 15:35Speaker 4: and his last. Yes, if you're going to change systems
- 15:41Speaker 4: and culture at some point, you have to change people
- 15:45Speaker 4: within it. It's really hard to change quarterbacks. I mean
- 15:49Speaker 4: it's really hard to change systems for a quarterback if
- 15:53Speaker 4: the quarterback at the existing spot is still around everybody
- 15:57Speaker 4: who's talking old verbage mullin the first meeting, we'll be
- 16:02Speaker 4: talking the verbage of the new system. And that gets
- 16:05Speaker 4: you know, when you're trying to learn Spanish, you go
- 16:07Speaker 4: to Spanish speaking country. So I think that's a lot
- 16:10Speaker 4: of it is he knows the system, he knows the verbage.
- 16:13Speaker 4: And if they're sitting around and there's no coach in
- 16:16Speaker 4: the meeting and Trevor goes, hey, why'd they do this well,
- 16:19Speaker 4: and you can give them the quick answer and you
- 16:21Speaker 4: move on.
- 16:22Speaker 3: So it's a teaching position as well.
- 16:25Speaker 2: I think it's the little things important to remember that
- 16:27Speaker 2: things are going to be in place for Trevor to
- 16:29Speaker 2: kind of get acclimated as quickly as possible. Stay with us.
- 16:32Speaker 2: We're gonna do some hot takes after the break for

- 16:49Speaker 2: We haven't done some hot takes in a while, so
- 16:51Speaker 2: now we're going to do a couple of hot takes,
- 16:53Speaker 2: very preliminary draft, hot takes post free agency, giving us
- 16:56Speaker 2: a little bit more of a focus, not really we
- 16:58Speaker 2: don't know exactly what they're gonna do, but where we
- 17:00Speaker 2: would want them to go with the draft. So, Brian,
- 17:02Speaker 2: when you're looking at your hot take, fair preliminary draft,
- 17:05Speaker 2: or at your focusign.
- 17:06Speaker 3: So give me an offensive lineman at number five. There
- 17:09Speaker 3: are some good ones that will be available, whether it's
- 17:12Speaker 3: Campbell from LSU or armand Membu from Missouri. Hope, I'm
- 17:16Speaker 3: pronouncing that right. You know, both are guys that can
- 17:19Speaker 3: play outside. Some are projecting both of them to be
- 17:22Speaker 3: able to play inside, maybe be better inside. I just
- 17:26Speaker 3: don't think you can go wrong with jamming that offensive
- 17:30Speaker 3: line room, which has underperformed in recent years. We just
- 17:33Speaker 3: got done talking about third down and short. With as
- 17:36Speaker 3: many really good players as you can, it's a good
- 17:38Speaker 3: draft for defensive tackles. You could get one of those
- 17:41Speaker 3: in the second round. There are opportunities for corner and
- 17:44Speaker 3: wide receiver into the third round. So give me the
- 17:47Speaker 3: big guy in the first round.
- 17:49Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 17:49Speaker 4: I don't think that's the way they're going to go,
- 17:52Speaker 4: but I would not rule it out because I think
- 17:55Speaker 4: this offensive line, I don't necessarily think outside of Anton
- 18:02Speaker 4: Harrison that anybody like has a job locked up. The
- 18:06Speaker 4: logical guys to start are the ones that are in
- 18:08Speaker 4: the spots right now. But if you brought in number
- 18:12Speaker 4: five and one of those guys had to sit, there's
- 18:16Speaker 4: gonna be competition, and there's going to be an attitude
- 18:19Speaker 4: of we have seven or eight starters on the offensive line,
- 18:22Speaker 4: So I wouldn't rule that out. My hot take is
- 18:24Speaker 4: that there's still a big need a wide receiver, and
- 18:28Speaker 4: they have Brian Thomas Jr. And they have Brown, so
- 18:31Speaker 4: they're okay. Parker Washington, I think ideally is probably the
- 18:35Speaker 4: fourth guy rather than the third, So I want what
- 18:41Speaker 4: you want, which is which is rare. But I want
- 18:45Speaker 4: offensive line or I want defensive line early. I would
- 18:48Speaker 4: not rule out receiver early. And I think the first
- 18:50Speaker 4: four picks or receiver, edge rusher, somewhere offensive line and
- 18:57Speaker 4: somewhere in the corner. So that's my thought on that,
- 19:00Speaker 4: and then the fourth round pick is whatever I left out.
- 19:03Speaker 3: We got two of them, so you can take both, right,
- 19:05Speaker 3: I mean, you can find players or trade up.
- 19:07Speaker 4: Maybe it's trade er, Jim.
- 19:09Speaker 2: That's my Hustbay. I want some calls to be made because,
- 19:13Speaker 2: as we mentioned trade of Christian Kirk, there's now twenty
- 19:16Speaker 2: one draft picks in the next two years. That's a
- 19:18Speaker 2: lot of capital. If you watch any of the behind
- 19:20Speaker 2: the scenes stuff with the Rams, they love to trade around,
- 19:22Speaker 2: they love to make moves. I don't know how splash
- 19:24Speaker 2: it needs to be, but if you can get rid
- 19:26Speaker 2: of some of those picks, move up, get some people
- 19:28Speaker 2: that you're targeting. If there's a couple more quality players
- 19:31Speaker 2: and a couple less players coming in, I'm fine with that.
- 19:34Speaker 2: I don't need another draft class of you know, fourteen people.
- 19:37Speaker 2: If we can get some people that are filling those
- 19:38Speaker 2: key positions. As John laid out. I'm good with that.
- 19:41Speaker 2: I hope they get on the phones and kind of
- 19:42Speaker 2: figure that out.
- 19:43Speaker 3: How many days until the draft?
- 19:45Speaker 2: Oh goodness, is it less than a month?
- 19:47Speaker 4: No? Month?
- 19:49Speaker 3: About five voice?
- 19:51Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, there's plenty of times I get on
- 19:53Speaker 2: the phone.
- 19:54Speaker 3: Sure, we'll figure it out. Yeah, soe playing.
- 19:58Speaker 2: I'll tell you what's coming up the rest of the week. Actually,
- 20:06Speaker 2: I'm brought to you by Fresh from Florida. It's always
- 20:08Speaker 2: in season.
- 20:15Speaker 6: I hope what they see is someone who cares. I
- 20:18Speaker 6: hope that shows in my play. I think it does
- 20:19Speaker 6: because I do. I care a lot, care about my teammates,
- 20:22Speaker 6: I care about the team. Those are the things that
- 20:25Speaker 6: I want to be evident in my play. They want
- 20:27Speaker 6: to see a guy finishing all the way of the whistle,
- 20:30Speaker 6: picking up his teammates first one there to give them.
- 20:33Speaker 6: If I'm not doing that, text me, shoot me, tweet me,
- 20:37Speaker 6: tell me I'm not doing it, because that stuff's important
- 20:39Speaker 6: to me.
- 20:41Speaker 2: It's Robert Hainsey, my one on one last week. He says,
- 20:44Speaker 2: if he's not doing what he needs to do out there,
- 20:47Speaker 2: text him, tweet him. I don't think Jaguars Twitter needed
- 20:49Speaker 2: that motivation, but they will find him if he's not
- 20:52Speaker 2: doing what he needs to be doing. But that's what
- 20:53Speaker 2: you want to hear, right, You want to hear someone
- 20:55Speaker 2: that's accountable, knows what needs to be done, and wants
- 20:57Speaker 2: to be held accountable by other people.
- 20:59Speaker 3: The magic words I care about that stuff. Great. Again,
- 21:02Speaker 3: that's what they were looking for with this free agent
- 21:04Speaker 3: classic group that would come in. They're going to get
- 21:06Speaker 3: paid obviously, and they're going to have to play, but
- 21:09Speaker 3: you want that what's the right word, ecosphere, ecosystem, Yeah, John.
- 21:15Speaker 2: With the next coming days, we talked about the draft,
- 21:17Speaker 2: how far out it is, they do some visits with players,
- 21:20Speaker 2: what's kind of coming up for the front office as.
- 21:22Speaker 3: They look for to the draft.
- 21:24Speaker 4: Your next big step is the thirty players come in,
- 21:26Speaker 4: and that's often an indication, not necessarily a first round,
- 21:30Speaker 4: but as you go through the draft, it's an indication
- 21:32Speaker 4: of guys they like and guys who are on their
- 21:34Speaker 4: short list that you're trying.
- 21:35Speaker 3: To find more about.
- 21:38Speaker 4: Never believe what you read about the draft coming in,
- 21:42Speaker 4: but that top thirty visit, Brian, it has in recent
- 21:45Speaker 4: years sort of giving you an indication of at least
- 21:48Speaker 4: the kind of guy teams like.
- 21:49Speaker 3: Yeah, there'll be players on there that people's name, you know,
- 21:52Speaker 3: they won't be household names. So Seth Payne walked through
- 21:55Speaker 3: the door in nineteen ninety seven. He was a defensive
- 21:56Speaker 3: tackle from Cornell. Why are you bringing this guy in?
- 21:59Speaker 3: Because they like it and they took him. So there
- 22:00Speaker 3: are players every year that will filter through that thirty
- 22:05Speaker 3: and because they're going to be their fourth round pick.
- 22:07Speaker 4: Yeah, we leave Andrew ingerd I think came in for
- 22:09Speaker 4: a thirty visit and he was a free agent. So
- 22:12Speaker 4: it's not necessarily about getting thirty guys in the first round.
- 22:15Speaker 4: It's about making sure you have a good feel for
- 22:18Speaker 4: guys you like. It's a final look very good.
- 22:20Speaker 2: Keep an eye on that the coming weeks, and we'll
- 22:22Speaker 2: be back with you next week here on Jack's Am.
