- 0:00Welcome back to Fostering Faith. We are so glad
- 0:02that you guys tuned in this week. And if you
- 0:05are new to Fostering Faith, welcome to Fostering
- 0:07Faith. We are here as a podcast that does not
- 0:10have it all figured out, but we are fostering
- 0:13our faith and we are walking through this in
- 0:15the community. And if you are a return listener
- 0:17with the Back home this week, and we are going
- 0:19to close out January today. And so our closing
- 0:22series and our final episode for January is,
- 0:26might be the most defining one of the month.
- 0:28We are going to be talking. We have talked about
- 0:30holy habits, we have talked about discipline,
- 0:33we have talked about praying bold prayers, but
- 0:35today we're going to be stepping into something
- 0:37that pulls it all together. Today we're going
- 0:40to be talking about the faith to go where God
- 0:44sends. Because here's reality, we can build a
- 0:47habit and you can grow discipline and you can
- 0:50pray bold prayers, but at some point God is going
- 0:54to ask you to go, to step out, to move, to obey.
- 0:58Just trust Him beyond what you can see. And there's
- 1:03always a moment where your faith will require
- 1:07your feet to move. And I want to start this with
- 1:09this episode with one of the most familiar stories
- 1:12in Scripture, Abraham. In Genesis 12, God tells
- 1:16Abraham to leave his country, leave his family,
- 1:20go to the land that God would show him. Not a
- 1:23land Abraham had already toured, not a No map
- 1:27laid out with directions, not a five -year plan.
- 1:31God just said, go, and I will show you on the
- 1:35way. Can you imagine God telling you, let's say,
- 1:41let you live in Washington, and you feel that
- 1:46God has called you to move to Florida. He did
- 1:48not tell you where. He said, pack up your family
- 1:50and go. And with biblical counsel, you guys have
- 1:53agreed that this is in alignment of what God
- 1:55says to do. And so you just pack up your family,
- 1:59you tell your wife, you tell your husband, hey,
- 2:01I don't know where we're going. I just know that
- 2:02we're supposed to go to Florida. And we're going
- 2:05to trust God along the way. Would that not be
- 2:08a wild ride? But we have people that have done
- 2:13it in scripture and it worked out. And so we
- 2:16have Abraham who obeyed. And this is what the
- 2:18faith looks like. Faith is not the absence of
- 2:21fear. Faith is the obedience in the presence
- 2:24of uncertainty. Faith does not mean that you
- 2:27have to have all the details. Faith means that
- 2:29you trust the one who does. If you want God to
- 2:32use you this year, if you want God to stretch
- 2:35you, to grow you, to strengthen you, to move
- 2:37you into the territory, if you're going to require
- 2:40a willingness to grow, even whenever you don't
- 2:43know the outcome, some of the greatest things
- 2:46God will do in your life will begin with a simple
- 2:48yes. Now, let me tell you something that we do
- 2:53not hear, I don't think, often enough. God does
- 2:56not obligate to bless the places he did not send
- 3:00you. And so many times I love listening to Joyce
- 3:04Meyers and she tells a story about how she was
- 3:07trying to be like her neighbor and her neighbor
- 3:09was like growing these tomatoes and so late she
- 3:12tried everything that her neighbor didn't have
- 3:13to sew and she did not do well with sewing. She
- 3:16wanted to be a gardener, she was trying to be
- 3:17a housewife, trying to be like this all these
- 3:19things and she just was not cut out to be. And
- 3:22so her neighbor was growing these tomatoes. And,
- 3:25like, her tomatoes were, like, flourishing. They
- 3:27were just, like, delicious. They were huge. They
- 3:29were red. They were, like, all the things. And
- 3:32her tomatoes, like, were horrible. Like, they
- 3:34sucked. They had bugs. They had the worms. Like,
- 3:36and she was just like, God, I'm trying to be
- 3:38a better housewife. He's like, I didn't call
- 3:39you to do that. So I don't have to bless what
- 3:42I didn't tell you that you were doing on your
- 3:44own. So he, and so I just always find that I
- 3:47always, she's just taught me a lot. I just, I
- 3:50really feel like that. And then if you've ever
- 3:51listened to her, And then you listen to the sermon
- 3:53on about me being a shopping cart, wooden saw
- 3:56in the cart. Like you can't walk by it now. Like
- 3:58you just can't walk by a cart and it not be in
- 4:00its like right place. And so that has always
- 4:03stuck with me. So obedience and just those little
- 4:06things. My daughter and I, my daughter, I was
- 4:08doing something the other day and I was, I walked
- 4:11intentionally past the cart. And because she
- 4:14has seen me stop so many times, she was like,
- 4:16Mom, you don't have to stop and get that cart.
- 4:18I was like, no, I'm just going to call it. I
- 4:19was just waiting to see how long it took you
- 4:21to. see that I walked past and she was like so
- 4:24she sees she knows and that's the thing too is
- 4:26that like people you think that they're not paying
- 4:28attention to you but they really are they're
- 4:31paying attention to your words they're paying
- 4:32attention to how you act they're paying attention
- 4:35to how you respond they're paying attention to
- 4:37things that you don't do what you do like all
- 4:40these things people really do pay attention and
- 4:43it's just It's great to see people from afar
- 4:47that you've counseled and they actually listen.
- 4:49And then it's like you can see people not listen
- 4:51and do what they want and that's up to them.
- 4:55So anyway, sidetrack. So now let me tell you
- 4:57something that I think is so purposeful. And
- 5:01so if God does not have to bless you where he
- 5:05did not send you, he will bless obedience. God
- 5:07blesses alignment. God blesses surrender. The
- 5:10safest place you will ever be is in God's will.
- 5:13But sometimes the safest place that you feel
- 5:15is like in the scariest place because God will
- 5:18often call you out of your comfort into purpose.
- 5:22Comfort never produces calling. Calling grows
- 5:26in the unknown. So today I want you to give you
- 5:29three things that happen whenever you have faith
- 5:32to go where God sends you. Number one. When you
- 5:36go, God reveals. We want God to reveal before
- 5:40we go. We want confirmation, clarity, timelines,
- 5:43took lists, reassurance, and detailed directions.
- 5:48But scripture shows us something very different.
- 5:51God reveals in motion. When the priest stepped
- 5:54into the Jordan, the water parted. When Peter
- 5:57stepped out of the boat, he walked on water.
- 6:00And when Abraham stepped out of his land, God
- 6:03revealed the next step. When Philip ran up this
- 6:08chariot, The Ethiopian was ready to hear the
- 6:10gospel. When Moses reined the staff, the Red
- 6:15Sea opened. Notice the pattern. God moves whenever
- 6:22we move. Obedience opens clarity. You might be
- 6:26waiting for God to speak, but God is wanting
- 6:30and waiting for you to take the first step. Number
- 6:33two, when you go, faith grows. Faith is like
- 6:39a muscle. It only grows whenever you use it.
- 6:44Some of you have been asking God to grow stronger
- 6:46in your faith, but you keep avoiding situations
- 6:49that require faith. You cannot grow in faith
- 6:52while living in a total comfort. And so if you're
- 6:56at the gym and you start with one -pound weights
- 6:58and do one -pound weights for a year, are you
- 7:02gonna see growth initially? Yeah. What happens
- 7:04if you would go to the five pound to the seven
- 7:06and a half to the ten to the 15 to the 20? Progressive
- 7:09load. So over time as you get more comfortable
- 7:12walking with God what you started off praying
- 7:14before as a newly born Christian and as you have
- 7:19been walking with God for 20 years you have a
- 7:21track record you know his obedience you know
- 7:23his faithfulness you know that he's never left
- 7:24you you know that he's never abandoned you you
- 7:26know that he's not gonna put desires on your
- 7:28heart that is not good for you And so you get
- 7:31stronger and you get stronger and your prayers
- 7:33get bolder and your prayers get bolder. And so
- 7:35whenever you go, your faith grows. And just like
- 7:38that muscle, like you're tearing in the gym.
- 7:40Faith is like a muscle. It grows whenever you
- 7:42use it. Some of us, you never step out until
- 7:46God will strengthen what you're willing to stretch.
- 7:49And so every step of obedience builds confidence.
- 7:52Every moment of surrender builds trust. Every
- 7:55place God leads you becomes And another testimony
- 7:59that God says, you were faithful, and he is still
- 8:03faithful here. If you want to go deeper in faith
- 8:06this year, follow God into the unfamiliar places.
- 8:09Your faith will grow in places where your control
- 8:12ends. Let him lead. And we were studying in scripture
- 8:18this week, and that's just even just in Matthew
- 8:2016, you know, him talking about how you have
- 8:24to die to yourself. You can't be in control.
- 8:26He has to lead. He has to lead us. And so three,
- 8:31when you go, God goes with you. And this is the
- 8:35part that should encourage us. You never obey
- 8:40alone. You never step out alone. You never walk
- 8:42onto the unknown. God does not send you where
- 8:45he will not sustain you. Joshua, excuse me. One
- 8:51nine. God says, be strong and courageous. Do
- 8:55not fear. Do not be discouraged. For the Lord
- 8:58your God is with you wherever you go. Not sometimes,
- 9:02not occasionally, wherever. God's presence is
- 9:07not tied to your comfort. It is tied to your
- 9:17obedience. If he sends you, he will strengthen
- 9:19you. If he calls you, He will equip you. If He
- 9:23leads you, He will cover you. If He directs you,
- 9:27He will provide for you. Now, let me talk directly
- 9:31to your heart for a moment. There is something
- 9:34God is calling you to this year. You already
- 9:37may know what it is. It may be something exciting.
- 9:41It may be something scary. It may be something
- 9:43that's uncertain. But you feel it in your spirit.
- 9:47You feel like you know what it is. And you sense
- 9:50a tug. You sense a pull. You sense that God is
- 9:53preparing you for something new. Maybe He is
- 9:57calling you to leave. Maybe He's calling you
- 10:00to step away from something that is draining
- 10:01you. Maybe He's calling you to heal, to serve,
- 10:09to surrender a habit of pattern. Maybe He's calling
- 10:12you to speak up. Maybe He's calling you to forgive.
- 10:17Maybe he's calling you to trust him in the area
- 10:20that you have held on tightly for years. Whatever
- 10:24it is, I want you to hear this clearly. Your
- 10:28I, your yes, is going to unlock something in
- 10:31your life. Your obedience will not be wasted.
- 10:36And your surrender will not be ignored. God honors
- 10:40obedience every single time. And so here's your
- 10:45final January challenge. this week. Ask God one
- 10:50question with certainty. God, where are you sending
- 10:54me this year? Then listen. Write it down. Pray
- 11:00over it. And when the moment comes, say yes.
- 11:05Because the greatest faith decision in your life
- 11:07will be made in comfort. It will always be made
- 11:12in the trust. Your year will look completely
- 11:16different if you choose obedience over convenience.
- 11:21Emma, let me close with this. January was our
- 11:23foundation month. This entire month, God has
- 11:26been preparing you and me not just for to feel
- 11:30spiritual, but to live spiritual, to live disciplined,
- 11:34to live prayerfully, to live obedient, to live
- 11:37bold, to live surrendered. You are not just building
- 11:41holy habits. You're building a holy And I believe
- 11:45this year is going to be marked by boldness,
- 11:48clarity, courage, because you are choosing to
- 11:52go where God sends you. And we would love to
- 11:55pray for you this week. Dear Heavenly Father,
- 11:57thank you so much for these listeners. Thank
- 11:58you so much for allowing us this time as we have
- 12:01built you as a foundation as the months go on
- 12:04this year. Thank you so much that whenever we
- 12:06go that you reveal. Thank you so much that whenever
- 12:08we go, our faith grows. Thank you so much that
- 12:10whenever... We go, we know that you are with
- 12:12us. Thank you that you've never left us. Thank
- 12:14you that you've never forsaken us. Thank you

- 12:23done. In Jesus name I pray. Amen. We hope this
- 12:27message encouraged you, blessed you, and we believe
- 12:30that this year is going to be a great year. If
- 12:34this message inspired you, if this message encouraged
- 12:36you, Go back and do it with a friend. Do the
- 12:39challenges with somebody else because it's accountability
- 12:41partners and allowing yourself to be vulnerable
- 12:43with the people that are in your community. Thank
- 12:46you for finishing January with me. Next month,
- 12:48we are going to step into February and we're
- 12:50going to be talking about relationships and friendships
- 12:52and kingdom love is what is going to be so good
- 12:57about February because it is the love month.
