- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up.
- 0:05Speaker 1: next to
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:09Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit. So, if you see
- 0:12Speaker 1: your schoolmate or office colleagues smiling very widely today, I
- 0:18Speaker 1: have one of two reasons for you on why. Find
- 0:21Speaker 1: out what this reason is in just a while here
- 0:24Speaker 1: on the show. Welcome to your Wednesday. Singapore's number one
- 0:28Speaker 1: hit music station.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Day 3 of going solo as Sonia and Jeremy are
- 0:35Speaker 1: over in the south side of France having a nice honeymoon.
- 0:38Speaker 1: And speaking of honeymoon, look, if you have a friend
- 0:43Speaker 1: in school or at the office who's smiling very widely today,
- 0:48Speaker 1: I can think of two reasons. The very first one
- 0:52Speaker 1: I'm gonna give you, and I think I'll do this
- 0:54Speaker 1: throughout the entire show, to ask.
- 0:57Speaker 1: fans, if you are tuned in here to 987, I
- 1:01Speaker 1: wanna say this, for the amount of banter, for the
- 1:05Speaker 1: amount of shtick, for the amount of other clubs teams,
- 1:08Speaker 1: including myself, making fun of you guys because we don't
- 1:11Speaker 1: want to see you win it, you guys gone and
- 1:13Speaker 1: did it. Congratulations, Premier League champions, 25, 26.
- 1:20Speaker 1: What a season it's been for you. One more trophy
- 1:23Speaker 1: to look forward to the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain. Again,
- 1:28Speaker 1: if you're an Arsenal fan, you might find this song
- 1:30Speaker 1: very familiar.
- 1:50Speaker 1: I mean, look, now that you've won the Premier League,
- 1:53Speaker 1: which club do we make fun of now, I wonder.
- 1:56Speaker 1: I guess there's only one, Tottenham Hotspur.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Tomorrow, if you are a football fan, then definitely you're
- 2:08Speaker 1: looking forward to World Cup 2026. Trust me, I am too.
- 2:11Speaker 1: The excitement is building already. Hopefully, you are subscribed to
- 2:15Speaker 1: me Watch where you can catch all 100+ games live
- 2:19Speaker 1: for $108. If I'm not wrong, that's the subscription fee now.
- 2:23Speaker 1: But tomorrow, we have the general.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Manager, Singapore, Malaysia, travel retail, APAC, the Lego Group, Ms.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Nina Patricia DeCosta. She'll be joining us in the studio. No,
- 2:36Speaker 1: she won't share those stats with you on how Lego
- 2:39Speaker 1: sales are doing. No, no, no. What she's gonna share
- 2:42Speaker 1: with you is the World Cup activation the Lego Group
- 2:46Speaker 1: will be having here in Singapore. It's gonna be amazing.
- 2:52Speaker 1: And when I got the email, I went, no, she
- 2:54Speaker 1: has to come live on our show and share with you.
- 2:57Speaker 1: So maybe families, if you wanna go put your footballing
- 3:00Speaker 1: skills to the test, or if you wanna get Lego
- 3:02Speaker 1: sets featuring the World Cup designs. We've got the World Cup,
- 3:07Speaker 1: we've got the limited, limited edition football, we've got the
- 3:10Speaker 1: Lego highlights, Kylian Mbappe, Christian.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, all of which that I just mentioned
- 3:16Speaker 1: will be up for a fantastic prize on 987 next week.
- 3:21Speaker 1: So you heard it here first on the shock circuit
- 3:24Speaker 1: tomorrow at just past 9:00 a.m. You don't want to
- 3:26Speaker 1: miss this live on air and on TikTok. And speaking
- 3:29Speaker 1: of World Cup, how about playing you something that will
- 3:32Speaker 1: be played plenty of for this year's version.
- 3:37Speaker 1: And earlier I said, if your schoolmate or colleague, if
- 3:41Speaker 1: they are smiling today, they could be an Arsenal fan.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Strap yourselves in. You, you're, you're gonna be hearing plenty
- 3:53Speaker 1: of this play today.
- 3:55Speaker 1: On our show, because look, for the amount of times
- 3:58Speaker 1: I said I don't want Arsenal to win the league, yes,
- 4:01Speaker 1: football banter and all that, they deserve it. Congratulations, Premier
- 4:05Speaker 1: League champions 25 and 26. The other reason though, maybe
- 4:10Speaker 1: that person could have been at the Leve concert last
- 4:13Speaker 1: night at the indoor stadium. What an amazing night over
- 4:16Speaker 1: there as well.
- 4:18Speaker 1: And I was able to take loads of videos. If
- 4:21Speaker 1: you wish to relive any of the moments from Lowe's concert,
- 4:25Speaker 1: you can go on to 987's Insta stories, did a
- 4:27Speaker 1: bit of a 987 Insta story hijack. So the night
- 4:30Speaker 1: started with her coming out and performing clockwork, and then
- 4:34Speaker 1: she addressed the crowd for a bit.
- 4:37Speaker 1: right
- 4:42Speaker 1: Oh my God, there are so many people here.
- 4:47Speaker 1: And one of my personal favorite moments from the concert,
- 4:51Speaker 1: aside from act two, where she turned it into a
- 4:54Speaker 1: very nice jazz club setting, was when she performed the
- 4:57Speaker 1: song Carousel.
- 5:03Speaker 1: So, she was seated on stage, but the backdrop was
- 5:07Speaker 1: a very nice carousel design.
- 5:10Speaker 1: It's beautifully haunting, I dare say, and she showed her
- 5:13Speaker 1: appreciation to all the Singapore fans.
- 5:17Speaker 1: here with me and supporting
- 5:26Speaker 1: To make
- 5:31Speaker 1: You.
- 5:35Speaker 1: I have to say the reason why I'm a huge
- 5:37Speaker 1: fan of Leve is she brings something different to the scene.
- 5:41Speaker 1: She is bringing back a sound that people would have
- 5:44Speaker 1: thought it's long gone, the sound of jazz to which
- 5:47Speaker 1: our grandparents, maybe even our parents grew up appreciating it,
- 5:51Speaker 1: and now a whole slew of people from Gen Z,
- 5:55Speaker 1: Gen Alpha, maybe even some millennials as well, they really
- 5:58Speaker 1: appreciate jazz. So I don't know whether Leve still in town,
- 6:01Speaker 1: if she still is, and if you see her.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Respectfully, just give her a wave and say hello. We
- 6:07Speaker 1: enjoyed the concert last night. I digress right now, if
- 6:10Speaker 1: you want to give your school a shout out and
- 6:13Speaker 1: take it to the moon, 669-119-87. That's the phone number
- 6:18Speaker 1: to call. Yesterday, I believe we had somebody from Red
- 6:21Speaker 1: Swastika School over in the Bed.
- 6:25Speaker 1: area. Interesting because the previous day we had Maha Bodhi
- 6:29Speaker 1: School as well. If I'm not wrong, both schools could
- 6:32Speaker 1: be in the Buddhism religion as compared to, of course,
- 6:35Speaker 1: the madrassas that we have here in Singapore and the
- 6:38Speaker 1: Christian slash Catholic schools. So, 669-11987. Let us know what
- 6:43Speaker 1: is one fantastic thing about your school and hopefully, towards
- 6:47Speaker 1: the end of the year when Sonia and I are back,
- 6:50Speaker 1: oh sorry, middle of the year, sometime in June or July.
- 6:53Speaker 1: We could start going to your schools, giving you a
- 6:55Speaker 1: 987 school assembly. We'd love to do that. So let
- 6:58Speaker 1: us know. It could be anyone. It could be a teacher, principal, headmaster,
- 7:02Speaker 1: discipline master, anything. Let us know what's fantastic about your
- 7:06Speaker 1: school and of course, we would love to play you
- 7:09Speaker 1: your favorite song, and you can dedicate it to your schoolmates,
- 7:12Speaker 1: your parents who are sending you, anyone. Call us right now.
- 7:15Speaker 1: 987, hello, what's your name? Hi, my name is Abby. Hello, Abby,
- 7:20Speaker 1: and how's your Wednesday going? It's going quite well. And
- 7:24Speaker 1: which school are you headed to today? Secondary School. Nan
- 7:28Speaker 1: Secondary School. So which level are you in? Sec 3.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Sec 3, what's your subject combo? Tell us and share
- 7:34Speaker 1: the tea. Uh, combined biochem, jobs.
- 7:39Speaker 1: And core literature. How's that going for you? Amazing. I
- 7:43Speaker 1: don't regret my choice. Alright, fantastic. You sound very confident. Uh,
- 7:47Speaker 1: any weighted assessments coming your way this week or anything? No,
- 7:50Speaker 1: I finished yesterday. Oh, congratulations. So what's happening now?
- 7:54Speaker 1: Break in school or are you still gonna learn more
- 7:56Speaker 1: things before the June holidays?
- 7:58Speaker 2: Sadly we have to learn more things.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Ah, there you go. Sec 3 is a whole different
- 8:02Speaker 1: ball game, man. What's the one thing you love about
- 8:05Speaker 1: Neon Secondary, Abby?
- 8:07Speaker 2: I would say the teachers.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Why so?
- 8:11Speaker 2: Um, OK,
- 8:12Speaker 2: most of them,
- 8:12Speaker 1: they are really caring and they're genuine in the things
- 8:16Speaker 1: they do. They check up on students and they care
- 8:19Speaker 1: really about your mental health. Any favorite teacher you want
- 8:22Speaker 1: to name right now live on air?
- 8:25Speaker 1: Uh, I really love my literature teacher, Miss Rena. Alright, Eddie,
- 8:29Speaker 1: what song can I get you, Abby? Um, can I
- 8:32Speaker 1: have the chocolate from 1975? Of course you can, and
- 8:36Speaker 1: it's going out to your schoolmates over at Nan Secondary.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Have a great day in school and thank you for
- 8:40Speaker 1: calling in, Abby. Take care.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Thank you. Have a great day too. Bye-bye. And like
- 8:44Speaker 1: I said earlier, it feels as if today's show was
- 8:46Speaker 1: brought to you by stupid behavior. Not 1, not 2,
- 8:49Speaker 1: but 3 different cases happening all over the world. Thankfully,
- 8:53Speaker 1: nothing here in Singapore as of yet. Cross my fingers
- 8:56Speaker 1: it stays that way.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Let's go to the obvious one, shall we? I'm very
- 9:00Speaker 1: sure you've seen the videos already of two Americans, at
- 9:04Speaker 1: least it only showed 11 was going into the enclosure,
- 9:07Speaker 1: one was filming the entire thing, breaking in to punch
- 9:10Speaker 1: the monkey's enclosure in the zoo in Japan. Firstly, red flags,
- 9:15Speaker 1: safety issue, and thankfully, the monkeys were not hurt. And
- 9:19Speaker 1: if you're wondering the reason on why they did it,
- 9:24Speaker 1: the reason is
- 9:26Speaker 1: The guy was wearing the costume of something. He was
- 9:30Speaker 1: promoting cryptocurrency.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Yes.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Why, why must you climb in to do that? Maybe
- 9:38Speaker 1: he wanted to get other people to record the videos
- 9:40Speaker 1: and then they posted online saying, oh, look, somebody's breaking
- 9:43Speaker 1: into the enclosure. Yeah, um, don't do that. Not with
- 9:48Speaker 1: any enclosures around the world and even here in Singapore
- 9:50Speaker 1: as well. And I think the Japan authorities.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Authorities are definitely looking into this. I wonder whether will
- 9:56Speaker 1: they be banned from Japan for the rest of their lives. To,
- 10:00Speaker 1: to use the phrase stupid behavior for this one, it's
- 10:04Speaker 1: a bit cyang because I feel as if the appli
- 10:08Speaker 1: the idea was there, the intention was there, but
- 10:11Speaker 1: Just what didn't work was the application. So hear me out. Um,
- 10:15Speaker 1: you would know the situation happening over in Gaza right now,
- 10:19Speaker 1: and there'll be loads of humanitarian aids that are trying
- 10:22Speaker 1: to sail towards Gaza to provide humanitarian aid for all
- 10:26Speaker 1: those affected, especially the children. So, I think, um, there
- 10:30Speaker 1: is a current vessel on board. I can't really recall
- 10:33Speaker 1: the flotilla's name.
- 10:35Speaker 1: But it's going towards Gaza and here we go. If
- 10:38Speaker 1: I'm not wrong, it's called the Global Summ Flotilla GSF 2.0, OK?
- 10:44Speaker 1: I'm not gonna touch into whatever's happening over there and
- 10:46Speaker 1: the political environment and the war environment as well, but
- 10:50Speaker 1: this Malaysian slash influencer activist, he filmed himself with a
- 10:56Speaker 1: bag full of chocolates, OK? Nothing wrong there, and then
- 11:00Speaker 1: he decides to throw a few bars into the sea.
- 11:06Speaker 1: And in the video, he says, I hope the chocolates
- 11:09Speaker 1: get brought to the children over in Gaza.
- 11:13Speaker 1: And then on Reddit and on social media, everyone's slamming
- 11:16Speaker 1: him saying, hey, hello, that's not how it works. You
- 11:19Speaker 1: are polluting the sea and the oceans. And he apologized,
- 11:24Speaker 1: and he apologized with the phrase saying, yes, I apologize,
- 11:26Speaker 1: but I don't know any other way to get these
- 11:29Speaker 1: chocolates to the children.
- 11:33Speaker 1: That's why I'm torn on how to feel about this. If,
- 11:36Speaker 1: for example, you're a teacher and you have a student
- 11:40Speaker 1: who does things with the right intention but the wrong application, I, I,
- 11:43Speaker 1: I think you might feel extra inclined to go, hey,
- 11:46Speaker 1: student A or student B. Good thoughts, good idea, but
- 11:50Speaker 1: let me guide you in applying the correct way to
- 11:53Speaker 1: get this idea done. That that that's how I'm feeling
- 11:55Speaker 1: towards this influencer activist, and if you're smiling widely, this
- 11:59Speaker 1: could be the reason why.
- 12:06Speaker 1: If you're an Arsenal fan.
- 12:09Speaker 1: For all the banter, for all the shtick, for all
- 12:12Speaker 1: the times people say you guys are gonna bottle it. Congratulations,
- 12:16Speaker 1: winning the Premier League 25, 26 season, and trust me,
- 12:21Speaker 1: you're gonna get plenty of that today here on the
- 12:24Speaker 1: shock circuit. I'm gonna just celebrate it with you, even
- 12:26Speaker 1: though yes, I was one of those saying, A, I
- 12:29Speaker 1: don't want Arsenal to win because which other team are
- 12:32Speaker 1: we gonna make fun of? And then you look at
- 12:34Speaker 1: Tottenham Hotspur. So yes, I think all footballing fans can agree,
- 12:37Speaker 1: Tottenham Hotspur now.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Let's see what happens on the final day. Will they
- 12:41Speaker 1: go down or will they stay in the Premier League?
- 12:44Speaker 1: That's it, just giving you a real-life update over at Ticketmaster.sg.
- 12:49Speaker 1: If you're still trying to go for the visa pre-sale
- 12:52Speaker 1: for the weekend's show in Singapore, both October 2nd and
- 12:56Speaker 1: October 3rd, both nights are actually equally popular. Limited tickets
- 13:02Speaker 1: are available at the more expensive sections.
- 13:05Speaker 1: And the standing pen. So, if you have a Visa card,
- 13:08Speaker 1: go use it and get your tickets before 12 p.m.
- 13:11Speaker 1: because that is where the visa pre-sale window closes and
- 13:14Speaker 1: they go to the live nations. OK, it's yours truly
- 13:17Speaker 1: with some man math for you right now. I wonder
- 13:20Speaker 1: whether will it rival girl math. And this involves the
- 13:24Speaker 1: Premier League for next season, but of course, before I
- 13:27Speaker 1: start on that, congratulations to all Arsenal fans.
- 13:35Speaker 1: My best friend, Iggy D Cruz just woke up. He's
- 13:39Speaker 1: a big Arsenal fan. He's really happy. 22 years. What
- 13:42Speaker 1: an achievement. Yes, and, uh, Ravi G from Oli just
- 13:47Speaker 1: walked down the hallway to stand outside my station's window
- 13:51Speaker 1: and go, yes.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Any other of my colleagues who are Arsenal fans, I think, uh,
- 13:58Speaker 1: Ed Russell, who works with Gene Danker on Class 35.
- 14:01Speaker 1: I was hearing their show yesterday and he was saying that, oh,
- 14:04Speaker 1: if Arsenal wins, he's gonna go to London and celebrate it,
- 14:06Speaker 1: so I think he might be on his way there already. So,
- 14:09Speaker 1: here we go. The Premier League direct streaming service has
- 14:13Speaker 1: finally been made available here in Singapore, and, and I'm
- 14:16Speaker 1: very happy about this one.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Because for as long, for as long as you have
- 14:21Speaker 1: to pay for football on your set-top boxes, whether is
- 14:24Speaker 1: it from SingTel or StarHub, I, I've always been saying, I,
- 14:29Speaker 1: I just want the football. I, I, I don't need
- 14:31Speaker 1: all these random Hong Kong drama channels or Sun TV
- 14:35Speaker 1: or anything, no, even though I love Sun TV, but I,
- 14:38Speaker 1: I don't need it. I just want to watch the football.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Can I just pay for the football package? They say, uh, yes,
- 14:44Speaker 1: but we're gonna bundle up.
- 14:45Speaker 1: With all these other channels and I'm like, OK, fine,
- 14:47Speaker 1: you know, beggars can't be choosers, right? So now, with
- 14:50Speaker 1: StarHub owning the rights to football, uh, I'm still on
- 14:53Speaker 1: the SingTel set top box and I'm paying what, 69.90
- 14:57Speaker 1: a month for the football subscription that comes with Premier League,
- 15:02Speaker 1: the FA Cup.
- 15:03Speaker 1: And Champions League, which um didn't need to watch the
- 15:07Speaker 1: last two years because Manny wasn't in it. But now
- 15:09Speaker 1: that Manchester United has qualified for the Champions League, before
- 15:14Speaker 1: you cancel your subscription service to StarHub or SingTel for
- 15:18Speaker 1: the football, hear me out first. The monthly pass, if
- 15:23Speaker 1: you're to get the direct streaming from Premier League Plus,
- 15:25Speaker 1: it's $44 OK?
- 15:28Speaker 1: The annual pass for 12 months, it's $399. So if
- 15:34Speaker 1: you do the math, $399 divided by 12, it's $33.25
- 15:39Speaker 1: per month. So even though the league lasts about 10 months,
- 15:44Speaker 1: you have 2 months, a bit of a loogie situation,
- 15:46Speaker 1: but yeah, it's a lot cheaper than a monthly pass
- 15:48Speaker 1: for 12 months. But if your team is playing in
- 15:52Speaker 1: the Champions League next season,
- 15:54Speaker 1: Before you cancel your football subscription to SingTel or StarHub,
- 15:59Speaker 1: you need to check everything. Do you really want to
- 16:01Speaker 1: watch Champions League? Can you wake up in time to
- 16:03Speaker 1: watch Champions League? Do you just want the Premier League
- 16:06Speaker 1: and FA Cup only? These are questions you gotta ask
- 16:10Speaker 1: yourself and then, of course, with any cancellation, there could
- 16:14Speaker 1: be a cancellation charge. So, read your TNC's and really
- 16:18Speaker 1: study the math first before you make your decision.
- 16:21Speaker 1: And whenever something closes down here in Singapore, bit heart
- 16:25Speaker 1: pain lah, to be honest with you. Whenever I read
- 16:27Speaker 1: about hawker stalls or malls or a place that you
- 16:31Speaker 1: might go to as a kid but no longer exists anymore,
- 16:34Speaker 1: it's something that we've seen.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Across all generations. And as of yesterday, the moment I
- 16:41Speaker 1: saw this, I immediately went to go search up pictures
- 16:44Speaker 1: that Sonia and I have from 2020 when we were there,
- 16:48Speaker 1: when Snow City had a bit of, you know, those
- 16:51Speaker 1: phase one, phase two COVID plans to let people come
- 16:54Speaker 1: and enjoy Snow City and all that. Yes, I posted
- 16:57Speaker 1: it on 987's Instagram. Go have a look and maybe
- 17:00Speaker 1: laugh at us six years ago. We were going down
- 17:02Speaker 1: the slide on that tube thing and Sonia was panicking
- 17:04Speaker 1: as usual.
- 17:05Speaker 1: But uh yes, after 26 years, Snow City will officially
- 17:11Speaker 1: close on September 30th, 2026. So to Snow City, thank
- 17:17Speaker 1: you for giving us 26 good years.
- 17:22Speaker 1: I mean, it's bittersweet, bittersweet clapping because Sn City, and
- 17:26Speaker 1: let's be honest, it's the closest all of us here
- 17:31Speaker 1: in Singapore will ever come to snow in our country,
- 17:33Speaker 1: unless you are able to travel overseas, good for you,
- 17:36Speaker 1: but there are many who can't, and snow city is
- 17:39Speaker 1: the next best thing for them. Now, if you're wondering
- 17:42Speaker 1: about the reason, um, it's quite vague, but it's gonna
- 17:46Speaker 1: be closing because of the Scienter.
- 17:50Speaker 1: God's plans to refresh its offering and adapt to changing
- 17:54Speaker 1: visitor interests. So, not much detail given on what's gonna
- 17:57Speaker 1: happen to the entire place yet, but they are gonna
- 18:00Speaker 1: take in consideration and hopefully attract more people in the future. And,
- 18:04Speaker 1: and I mean this with all respect. If there's any
- 18:06Speaker 1: place that needs a major revamp, maybe science center, a
- 18:09Speaker 1: little bit of the insight, but keep some of the things.
- 18:11Speaker 1: that we remember as kids and Singaporeans of all generations
- 18:15Speaker 1: can enjoy. So, if you're wondering about the staff, all
- 18:18Speaker 1: 8 full-time staff members have reportedly been offered redeployment opportunities
- 18:24Speaker 1: within the science center board or severance packages. So, there
- 18:28Speaker 1: you go. People are sharing pictures, people are sharing their
- 18:31Speaker 1: memories about Snow City, but with this closing,
- 18:35Speaker 1: It it kinda got me thinking and it could be
- 18:38Speaker 1: a hard one for you to answer. I don't know
- 18:40Speaker 1: if you can, but do share it with me because
- 18:43Speaker 1: there are places in Singapore that we really need to protect.
- 18:47Speaker 1: Whether it's a mall, whether it's a place like Snow City,
- 18:51Speaker 1: or even your favorite hawker stall. Anything. 669-119-87. Call us
- 18:59Speaker 1: or you can.
- 18:59Speaker 1: us at 90050987. The WhatsApp number is open as well,
- 19:06Speaker 1: and if you do like your answer, what's coming your way,
- 19:08Speaker 1: it's a very nice $100 dining experience, all thanks to
- 19:11Speaker 1: our friends over at Luce's Frasier House. They are a
- 19:14Speaker 1: fusion cuisine place with the signature pasta cheese wheel, handmade pasta,
- 19:19Speaker 1: and even the Luce Laksa, the Fraser Laksa as well.
- 19:22Speaker 1: You have to try it.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Once but twice last year for Media Corp's Cloud nine
- 19:27Speaker 1: and a stand-alone show on August 10th, Elijah Woods. This
- 19:31Speaker 1: one called DNA right here on 987, your number one
- 19:34Speaker 1: hit music station. Joakim Gomez here with you, a bit
- 19:37Speaker 1: of a bittersweet one where all of us found out yesterday.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Snow City, closing its doors after 26 good years on
- 19:44Speaker 1: September 30th, 2026. So again, to all the staff, current
- 19:50Speaker 1: and ex-staff of Snow City, thank you for giving us
- 19:53Speaker 1: 26 good years. Well, it's, it's sad.
- 19:57Speaker 1: But in changing times and consumer interests, yeah, sometimes.
- 20:02Speaker 1: An action like this needs to be done. It's painful
- 20:05Speaker 1: to say, but of course, there are places here in
- 20:07Speaker 1: Singapore where I'm asking you today over at 669-011-987 to
- 20:12Speaker 1: call us or you can WhatsApp us at 90050987.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Which place, hawker stall or anything you feel that cannot
- 20:21Speaker 1: for whatever reason, it cannot close? I wanna say good
- 20:26Speaker 1: morning to Way Lan on WhatsApp. Hey Joakim, it's definitely
- 20:31Speaker 1: Hopa Villa.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Those born in the 60s and 70s should remember this place.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Now that it's quite rundown, it gives me the nostalgic feel.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Not many places in Singapore can give the vibes in
- 20:43Speaker 1: this modern Singapore. I even brought my kids there when
- 20:46Speaker 1: they were younger, say 6 or 7 years back, and
- 20:48Speaker 1: they also enjoy climbing around the place and explore. Great
- 20:52Speaker 1: space for kids to run about and learn about moral values. Yes,
- 20:55Speaker 1: I agree.
- 20:57Speaker 1: But it also can be very scary. I remember Hopa
- 21:00Speaker 1: Villa being the place where all parents brought their kids
- 21:02Speaker 1: to saying, Ah, you see, you tell lies some more, ah, this,
- 21:06Speaker 1: this demon will cut your tongue out in hell. It's scary. There's,
- 21:10Speaker 1: there's this little air conditioned space where you can see
- 21:13Speaker 1: all the different courts of hell. Yeah, that one creeps
- 21:15Speaker 1: me out till this day. Wanna say hello to, I
- 21:18Speaker 1: don't really have your name. Oh, hello, Mel. We got
- 21:20Speaker 1: you on WhatsApp. Mel says, hey, Joakim, Yakun.
- 21:25Speaker 1: You close this and all your coffee loving Singaporeans will
- 21:30Speaker 1: start a riot. I, I totally feel you. I totally
- 21:33Speaker 1: feel you, but Yakun is doing well. You, you go
- 21:36Speaker 1: to any mall.
- 21:37Speaker 1: A few places in that mall will be guaranteed snaking queues.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Either Uniqlo or Yakun. I kid you not. Uh, one
- 21:44Speaker 1: more as well coming in from Sits. Sits, you say,
- 21:47Speaker 1: Joakim Swensen's do or die cannot close. It's a wonderful
- 21:52Speaker 1: place for families to have lunch and dinner and where
- 21:55Speaker 1: to get good ice cream flavors other than Swensen's. There
- 21:58Speaker 1: you go. Inspired by Snow City closing its doors officially,
- 22:02Speaker 1: September 30th, 2026. So I think from June till September
- 22:07Speaker 1: September, there's gonna be some special packages. If you want
- 22:10Speaker 1: to go there one last time, relive your childhood memories
- 22:13Speaker 1: or bring your kids to go see Snow City before
- 22:16Speaker 1: it officially closes its doors. I'm gonna go to WhatsApp
- 22:20Speaker 1: right now over at 90050987. Wanna say good morning to Pan.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Pan says, hey, Joakim, one of the places I really
- 22:30Speaker 1: hope won't close down is the Mega Zip at Siloso Beach.
- 22:34Speaker 1: I got married in 2018 and almost all the
- 22:37Speaker 1: Places, vendors related to my wedding have since closed down.
- 22:41Speaker 1: To name a few, a bridal studio didn't survive COVID,
- 22:44Speaker 1: and my wedding venue had to close due to the
- 22:46Speaker 1: redevelopment in the Keel area. So the only place that's
- 22:49Speaker 1: still left connected to my wedding is the actual megazip.
- 22:53Speaker 1: My husband proposed to me on the Megazip. Here's a
- 22:56Speaker 1: photo of the view as we slid down the megazip. Oh,
- 22:59Speaker 1: the nice heart shape with the marry me question. And yes,
- 23:02Speaker 1: thank goodness he said yes, because if he said no,
- 23:04Speaker 1: all the effort gone down the drain.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Veronica, what about you? What's a place that must never
- 23:10Speaker 1: close here in Singapore?
- 23:11Speaker 2: I think it will be the Mustafa Center. Oh yes.
- 23:16Speaker 2: I mean, it's not just a place for a particular community.
- 23:19Speaker 2: I think the entire Singapore knows about it. As a
- 23:23Speaker 2: Chinese guy I even grew up remembering like my father
- 23:27Speaker 2: would bring me there to look at old stuff, watches, radios,
- 23:32Speaker 2: and things that you might not find so easily in
- 23:34Speaker 2: Sing in the else elsewhere lah. So when my uncles
- 23:36Speaker 2: there are always so friendly, yeah.
- 23:38Speaker 1: How often do you go to Mustafa Center?
- 23:40Speaker 2: I used to go there a lot for the grilled cheese,
- 23:43Speaker 2: but
- 23:43Speaker 2: I couldn't find anymore, so left now, but I explored
- 23:46Speaker 2: the other Indian places, the food places around, so I
- 23:50Speaker 2: think at least once a month, at least, yeah.
- 23:53Speaker 1: I'm gonna go to WhatsApp first and say good morning
- 23:55Speaker 1: to Miffy. Miffy says, hey, Joe, Bollywood Farms, it's a
- 24:01Speaker 1: gem for younger Singaporeans to know what is a farm,
- 24:04Speaker 1: which is not vertical farms. All right, thank you very much.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Very much, Miffy. One coming in from username Little Monster. Hey, Joakim,
- 24:12Speaker 1: it's Haagen-Dazs. It should not be closed because it's one
- 24:15Speaker 1: of those classic premium dessert brands already tied to birthdays, dates,
- 24:20Speaker 1: and late-night cravings in Singapore, and one coming from Angeline
- 24:25Speaker 1: who gave me a recommendation that I'm now dying to try. Hey, Joakim.
- 24:31Speaker 1: Heung carrot cake in Bukit Timah Hawker Center. They sell
- 24:34Speaker 1: only white carrot cake and it's the best one ever.
- 24:37Speaker 1: It brings back so much childhood memories as I remember
- 24:40Speaker 1: eating it growing up, and they have improved on their
- 24:43Speaker 1: queue system so much across the years, and she sent
- 24:46Speaker 1: me a picture. It got me craving for white carrot
- 24:48Speaker 1: cake now because the last good one that I had
- 24:52Speaker 1: was the one over in Bishan, Joy carrot cake. The
- 24:54Speaker 1: auntie retired already. 669-11987. Nizam, what about you, buddy?
- 25:00Speaker 1: Definitely Yishun 10, yeah, because there's a, there, there, there's
- 25:06Speaker 1: a huge field behind North Point and there's a, there,
- 25:09Speaker 1: there's a temporary, um, bus interchange. They're gonna demolish the
- 25:13Speaker 1: bus interchange and then they're gonna make more residential. So
- 25:16Speaker 1: what's the point of another residential just beside North Point?
- 25:19Speaker 1: It's just a small space. The Yishun 10 is just
- 25:21Speaker 1: a small space and we're gonna lose so many, so, so,
- 25:24Speaker 1: so many iconic shops. Arnold's, Kumala Villas, and also GV
- 25:28Speaker 1: Yishun GV.
- 25:30Speaker 1: I want to ask you, what sort of memories does
- 25:33Speaker 1: Yishun 10 hold for you?
- 25:35Speaker 1: Oh, so many memories. I had, I watched, I think,
- 25:39Speaker 1: countless movies, maybe hundreds of movies at Yishun 10 at
- 25:43Speaker 1: the GV. I had lunch and dinner with my friends
- 25:46Speaker 1: and buddies at Arno. I think we also celebrated some
- 25:50Speaker 1: birthdays there, and then previously there was a larilari.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Yeah, Yishun GV closes down at Yishun 10, right? Where's
- 25:57Speaker 1: the nearest cinema for you guys? So to be honest,
- 26:00Speaker 1: now I think it's either at town or Bukit Batok maybe.
- 26:04Speaker 1: Oh wow, Bukit Batok so far.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Yeah, thanks for your call, man. You take care, Nizam.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Hopeful Yishun 10 stays alive. Yeah. It's Tyler the Creator,
- 26:13Speaker 1: Sugar on My Tongue, right here on 987, your number
- 26:15Speaker 1: one hit music station. Joakim Gomez is here with you
- 26:18Speaker 1: on the topic of a place that should never ever
- 26:21Speaker 1: close in Singapore. If you just joined us, this one
- 26:24Speaker 1: inspired by Snow City announcing yesterday that on 30th of
- 26:29Speaker 1: September 2026, it's officially.
- 26:32Speaker 1: closing here in Singapore, after 26 years. Lots of interesting
- 26:36Speaker 1: answers so far. We've received the likes of Mustafa Center,
- 26:39Speaker 1: He Chong Karakeick over at Bukit Timah Hawker Center. We
- 26:43Speaker 1: received Yishun 10, even Haagen-Dazs, Swensen's, Bollywood Farms. I want
- 26:49Speaker 1: to say hello to Shazriel. Shahriel says, hey, Joakim, what
- 26:52Speaker 1: I foresee losing its practicality and appeal are libraries.
- 26:59Speaker 1: With tech advancements and improving accessibility to alternative online options
- 27:04Speaker 1: such as e-books and the increase of people picking up AI,
- 27:07Speaker 1: I worry libraries become less appealing. They are becoming a
- 27:10Speaker 1: convenience we have to make an extra effort to appreciate.
- 27:14Speaker 1: I miss the times with friends after school at the
- 27:16Speaker 1: Jurong library and also occasional solo peaceful trips there for
- 27:20Speaker 1: comic books. Wow! I did not think of that. And
- 27:24Speaker 1: and now that Shahzriel brought it up, I wonder.
- 27:28Speaker 1: I, I wonder whether it's a conversation already happening about
- 27:31Speaker 1: the libraries here in Singapore. I Wanna say good morning
- 27:33Speaker 1: to Frederick who called us yesterday. What up, Frederick? Frederick says, hey, Joakim,
- 27:38Speaker 1: one place that should never close is the iconic wild,
- 27:42Speaker 1: wild wet. As far as it is in the east,
- 27:45Speaker 1: that place has brought many families and friends together, and
- 27:48Speaker 1: I dare say couples as well. Thank you so much
- 27:51Speaker 1: for all your calls and texts. When we come back,
- 27:53Speaker 1: let me do my best to pick one winner of today's.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Luce Frasier House dining. I did not plan this, but
- 27:59Speaker 1: this was the perfect song to play for our friends
- 28:01Speaker 1: over at Snow City. Memories by Dean Lewis. Thank you
- 28:04Speaker 1: so much for 26 good years. And for today's winner,
- 28:09Speaker 1: I want to give it to Angeline who texted us
- 28:11Speaker 1: earlier telling me about He Chong Carrot cake, that under
- 28:14Speaker 1: what circumstances it should never ever close down here in Singapore. Angeline,
- 28:19Speaker 1: the reason why is because the moment I mention your
- 28:22Speaker 1: text on air.
- 28:23Speaker 1: I received about 4 or 5 people saying, yes, I
- 28:27Speaker 1: agree with her text. It's a very good white carrot
- 28:29Speaker 1: cake to the point now you got me craving for it.
- 28:32Speaker 1: I wanna go try it. So Angeline, what's coming your way?
- 28:34Speaker 1: A very nice luche dining experience. Enjoy.
- 28:41Speaker 1: It's fusion pasta food, and of course, if you're dining
- 28:44Speaker 1: there on the weekdays, use the promo code Luche 30,
- 28:48Speaker 1: LUCE 30 for a 30% discount, and over the weekends,
- 28:52Speaker 1: Luche 25 LUCE 25 for a 25% discount. And I, I,
- 28:58Speaker 1: I don't know why. I was hoping to move away
- 29:00Speaker 1: from closures once we were done with the 8 to
- 29:04Speaker 1: 9 a.m. hour, but unfortunately, today's food news involves a closure.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Not 10, not 20, but after 100 years. Let me
- 29:17Speaker 1: sing the jingle in a very sad way. Here we go. 123.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Food news. Food news. Joking with sad food news. Usually
- 29:28Speaker 1: it's Sonia, but she's on her honeymoon.
- 29:30Speaker 1: But it's really sad. This place, after 100 years, it's
- 29:35Speaker 1: known as Wing Seong Fatti's Restaurant over at Burlington Square,
- 29:40Speaker 1: and the Cantonese restaurant is actually quite famous among the
- 29:44Speaker 1: Australian Qantas airline crew and those in the aviation sector.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Maybe they go there for a meal and word has
- 29:50Speaker 1: spread over the last 100 years. If you're asking what
- 29:53Speaker 1: are some of the popular items over there, the Marmite chicken.
- 29:57Speaker 1: The champagne pork ribs and the hot plate tofu, which
- 30:00Speaker 1: I always go for for any chita stall and the
- 30:03Speaker 1: yang chou fried rice and cereal prawns. Now, unfortunately, they
- 30:08Speaker 1: are closing after 100 years because there's, there's no one
- 30:13Speaker 1: to take over the business. Yeah, the younger generation have
- 30:17Speaker 1: gone on to do their own thing, so the current generation,
- 30:20Speaker 1: they say they're gonna close it very soon.
- 30:23Speaker 1: It's, it's very sad and online comments are saying end
- 30:26Speaker 1: of an era and people highlighting how very hard it
- 30:29Speaker 1: is to do F&B here in Singapore in this current
- 30:33Speaker 1: climate and landscape. So I think people are going down
- 30:35Speaker 1: there for one last meal. I, I'm not too sure
- 30:38Speaker 1: the exact date on when it is closing down. Oh,
- 30:42Speaker 1: hang on, we just got it.
- 30:44Speaker 1: June 28th, 2026. I repeat, June 28th, 2026. What was
- 30:51Speaker 1: started over at Albert Street in 1926 and ever since 1999,
- 30:56Speaker 1: they moved on to Burlington Square. So to Wing Seong
- 31:00Speaker 1: Fatti's Restaurant, thank you for 1 100 years of history.
- 31:05Speaker 1: It's painful to even deliver this piece of news here
- 31:07Speaker 1: on 987 and it's quite scary as well. I really
- 31:09Speaker 1: hope we protect our iconic hawker stalls, locations here in
- 31:14Speaker 1: our country better. Yes, I'm a diehard Manchester United fan,
- 31:18Speaker 1: but before anything, I'm a fan of football as well.
- 31:20Speaker 1: So putting my Manchester United hat aside to Arsenal fans, congratulations.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Again.
- 31:33Speaker 1: I, I, I'm dedicating this morning's show to you. So
- 31:37Speaker 1: I know my best friend, Iggy D Cruz, definitely going
- 31:39Speaker 1: to work with a smile today. Premier League champions after
- 31:42Speaker 1: 22 years, Ravi G of Oli 96.8, he ran down
- 31:47Speaker 1: the hallway to look at me outside the window going, yes,
- 31:50Speaker 1: we are champions! And my other colleague who's also an
- 31:53Speaker 1: Arsenal fan is Ed Russell of Class 95. But when
- 31:56Speaker 1: we come back, I'm gonna actually be cheeky.
- 31:59Speaker 1: And give Sean Chan from SGAG a call because he
- 32:03Speaker 1: is a big Arsenal fan. His videos pertaining to Arsenal
- 32:07Speaker 1: have gone viral. He has been featured on Sky Sports
- 32:10Speaker 1: to give his expert opinion as an Arsenal fan here
- 32:13Speaker 1: in Singapore. I'm gonna give him a call and ask
- 32:16Speaker 1: him how he feels and have a chat with him.
- 32:18Speaker 1: I believe he's on the bus to work right now.
- 32:19Speaker 1: But never mind, screw it. We're gonna call him and
- 32:22Speaker 1: let's get him on live. And as promised, aside from
- 32:25Speaker 1: my best friend Iggy and Ravi G from Oli, the
- 32:30Speaker 1: next big Arsenal fan that I know here in Singapore
- 32:33Speaker 1: in the media, he's with ASGK. I have you on
- 32:36Speaker 1: the line.
- 32:37Speaker 2: Hello to Sean. Sean, Sean,
- 32:39Speaker 1: are you there, my friend?
- 32:41Speaker 2: Hello,
- 32:42Speaker 2: good morning, everybody. guns out there. This is for you. We,
- 32:47Speaker 2: we finally did it.
- 32:49Speaker 2: Thanks for calling me. Hey,
- 32:50Speaker 1: Sean, before I even get to Arsenal winning the title,
- 32:54Speaker 1: how does it feel, man? You are one of the
- 32:56Speaker 1: lucky ones who had a photoshoot with them to launch
- 32:58Speaker 1: this season's jersey. Can you walk me through it, the
- 33:01Speaker 1: whole situation and the whole experience for you?
- 33:05Speaker 2: Oh my goodness, you know, I thought that was, I
- 33:08Speaker 2: thought that was gonna be the, the highest of, of,
- 33:10Speaker 2: of my life as an Arsenal fan, but who knew
- 33:14Speaker 2: one season later it would top that and, and, and
- 33:16Speaker 2: I still have the jersey time and frame and, and
- 33:20Speaker 2: that's not leaving me, that's going with me to the grave.
- 33:22Speaker 2: I cannot describe to you how this, this feels right now,
- 33:24Speaker 2: I'm
- 33:24Speaker 1: joking. So did you actually watch the game, um, Bournemouth
- 33:27Speaker 1: against Man City?
- 33:30Speaker 2: I didn't know, you know, I was, you know, the, the, the, the,
- 33:34Speaker 2: a bit pessimistic in me, right? I was assuming they
- 33:37Speaker 2: would have, um, we have gone to the final day.
- 33:40Speaker 2: Who knew CT would have bottled the league,
- 33:42Speaker 2: right? Wow! How,
- 33:44Speaker 1: how does it feel using that phrase now for other
- 33:48Speaker 1: teams but not Arsenal?
- 33:51Speaker 2: My God, you know, you know, you know, the entire,
- 33:53Speaker 2: the entire season has been so terrible. You cannot, you
- 33:56Speaker 2: cannot brag, you have to be humble, right? Stay humble, right?
- 34:00Speaker 2: But finally now we are the ones with the champagne bottles, right?
- 34:04Speaker 2: You guys cut to the Man City fans with the bottle, right? I, I,
- 34:07Speaker 2: I hope he's sleeping miserably tonight.
- 34:09Speaker 1: No, honestly, he's being memed on social media right now.
- 34:12Speaker 1: I think people like Sports Bible and 433 are using
- 34:15Speaker 1: his face to meme the whole thing. So how are
- 34:17Speaker 1: you celebrating Arsenal's Premier League win, my friend?
- 34:21Speaker 2: I am going to be as obnoxious as possible to
- 34:25Speaker 2: everyone out there for laughing at us for the past
- 34:27Speaker 2: 22 years. I'm not gonna be quiet. We are all
- 34:30Speaker 2: gonna be loud, and I'm gonna brag about this for
- 34:33Speaker 2: the months to come until World Cup Day is. Hey,
- 34:35Speaker 1: hey, you know what, you waited for 22 years, so
- 34:38Speaker 1: please go as loud as you can, and I really
- 34:39Speaker 1: hope at least for next season, my team can win
- 34:42Speaker 1: the Premier League so I can celebrate as loud as
- 34:45Speaker 1: you as well. So one last question for you, my friend.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Interestingly you brought it up. Who's gonna win the World Cup?
- 34:50Speaker 1: What do you think?
- 34:52Speaker 2: Who's going to win the World Cup? I think, I
- 34:55Speaker 2: think on paper, France has the strongest squad, but then now,
- 34:59Speaker 2: you know, as an Arsenal fan, I have to support England, right?
- 35:02Speaker 2: So my heart says England, but my brain says
- 35:06Speaker 2: France. I, I'm,
- 35:07Speaker 1: I'm glad we are agreeing on something because I'm going
- 35:09Speaker 1: with England as well to win the World Cup. It's
- 35:11Speaker 1: now or never for them. They, they have to win it.
- 35:13Speaker 1: It's been 60 years, OK? Sean, congrats. All the best
- 35:17Speaker 1: to you, and I'll see you soon. OK, buddy. Take care, man.
- 35:20Speaker 1: you. OK, so in case you missed it earlier, very
- 35:26Speaker 1: quick announcement on what's happening tomorrow at just past 9:00 a.m.
- 35:29Speaker 1: live on our show and on TikTok as well. We're
- 35:32Speaker 1: gonna have the General Manager, Singapore, Malaysia travel retail APEC
- 35:38Speaker 1: of the Lego Group, Ms. Nina Patricia DeCosta. No, she's
- 35:42Speaker 1: not gonna come.
- 35:43Speaker 1: And share about the stats and sales numbers and all that. No,
- 35:46Speaker 1: she's gonna share with us what Singapore can look forward
- 35:49Speaker 1: to when it comes to the World Cup. Yes, and
- 35:53Speaker 1: if you live around the Sengkang area, congrats. It just
- 35:57Speaker 1: could be happening at your vicinity. I'll leave it to Ms.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Nina to share with you more tomorrow and
- 36:04Speaker 1: On 987, starting next week for one entire week, we
- 36:08Speaker 1: have exclusive Lego Group World Cup sets for you. We've
- 36:12Speaker 1: got the World Cup trophy, the limited edition ball, and
- 36:15Speaker 1: we've got the LEGO highlights of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi,
- 36:19Speaker 1: and Kylian Mbappe as well. You don't want to miss it.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Full story tomorrow at just past 9:00 a.m. again live
