- 0:00Speaker 1: This is South Carolina's morning news on one oh three
- 0:03Speaker 1: five FM and five sixty a.m.
- 0:05Speaker 2: W.V.O.C. Columbia and ninety four three W.S.C. Charleston. All right.
- 0:11Speaker 3: Oh, let me push that button. I get so many buttons.
- 0:13Speaker 3: I got to push over here, Christopher. Welcome back to it.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Let's get after it. South Carolina. It's going to be
- 0:20Speaker 3: a great day. Donald Trump in South Carolina a little
- 0:23Speaker 3: bit later on today. Christopher, I just literally got off
- 0:28Speaker 3: the phone about 60 seconds ago with one congressman from
- 0:33Speaker 3: South Carolina who people seem to have a lot of
- 0:36Speaker 3: interest in what his thoughts are. His name is Ralph Norman.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Yes.
- 0:40Speaker 3: And so we will be playing parts of that back
- 0:43Speaker 3: on the show here throughout the morning. But I also
- 0:46Speaker 3: want you to know I am posting it as we speak.
- 0:48Speaker 3: It's actually being processed and going up. As a podcast,
- 0:52Speaker 3: if you want to get the entire 15 minutes or
- 0:55Speaker 3: so with Congressman Norman, he really does kind of put
- 1:01Speaker 3: a point on his clarification about his position on Darlene Graham,
- 1:05Speaker 3: his position on the GOP in general, his thoughts on
- 1:08Speaker 3: Donald Trump. We've got all of that on the national briefing,
- 1:12Speaker 3: and that is spelt like my name, N-A-S-H-I-O-N-A-L. The national briefing,
- 1:17Speaker 3: it's exclusively, I believe it's exclusively on the iHeartRadio app,
- 1:21Speaker 3: although I have heard some other people say that it
- 1:24Speaker 3: might be up on other formats. I don't know how
- 1:27Speaker 3: that would happen. I only upload it to iHeartRadio, but
- 1:32Speaker 3: maybe somebody is stealing my content.
- 1:35Speaker 4: All right, well, I'm curious to see what the congressman
- 1:38Speaker 4: had to say.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll get to that coming up. And I'm wondering
- 1:43Speaker 3: how people are feeling this morning. Are there people who
- 1:46Speaker 3: are planning to go up to the event tonight? It's
- 1:49Speaker 3: in Pendleton, right? It's not actually in Clemson. It's in Pendleton.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Correct. Which is close.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Yeah, it's close. But it's also in a basically a
- 1:59Speaker 3: livestock arena, which is not the typical setting of a
- 2:03Speaker 3: Trump rally.
- 2:04Speaker 4: Right.
- 2:06Speaker 3: I also, I put up yesterday, I thought this was
- 2:10Speaker 3: a great story that I saw. Amanda Hollinsby, I think
- 2:16Speaker 3: is how you say her name. She's an upstate South
- 2:19Speaker 3: Carolina mom. Her daughter is named Braylon. And Braylon got
- 2:24Speaker 3: invited by the Graham campaign to meet the president. They're
- 2:30Speaker 3: going to be in a VIP section tonight, and they're
- 2:32Speaker 3: going to meet the president. Now, as she points out
- 2:35Speaker 3: in her post, it's probably going to be just a
- 2:37Speaker 3: few seconds, but she's bringing information with her to give
- 2:41Speaker 3: to the staff about her daughter. It says DCVax-L and
- 2:47Speaker 3: the barriers American patients face trying to access promising treatments
- 2:51Speaker 3: that are being developed in the United States. This is
- 2:54Speaker 3: an extraordinary opportunity. We're Braylon was given months to live
- 3:04Speaker 3: three years ago. She got an opportunity to take this
- 3:09Speaker 3: medication that is, what is it, the right to try?
- 3:12Speaker 3: They used that in order to use this medication that's
- 3:16Speaker 3: being developed in America. And she says, here we are.
- 3:19Speaker 3: She's now 19, attending college, and her latest MRI shows
- 3:23Speaker 3: no evidence of the disease.
- 3:25Speaker 4: Fantastic.
- 3:26Speaker 3: So I think she had a brain tumor or something
- 3:29Speaker 3: like that. Um, but yeah, I mean, I, I'm very
- 3:34Speaker 3: happy that the mom has her daughter. I'm very happy
- 3:37Speaker 3: that they get a chance to meet the president. I'm
- 3:39Speaker 3: very happy, hopeful that, uh, you know, as we get
- 3:42Speaker 3: these more and more medical breakthroughs that we will start,
- 3:46Speaker 3: I mean, you go back to the name of it, right?
- 3:49Speaker 3: DC vax dash L. Um, Whenever we hear vaccines, we
- 3:55Speaker 3: remember Operation Warp Speed and how quickly they got that out.
- 4:00Speaker 3: She took it three years ago, and we can't get
- 4:03Speaker 3: it to market.
- 4:05Speaker 4: Something's wrong there, but she'll get a chance to maybe
- 4:08Speaker 4: bend the presidency or even if it's for a few
- 4:10Speaker 4: seconds tonight.
- 4:11Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, I mean, I think the standard vax or
- 4:14Speaker 3: any of those types of medications typically take a 10-year
- 4:18Speaker 3: trial period before they could make sure that they know
- 4:21Speaker 3: all the side effects that are possible. You need control
- 4:24Speaker 3: groups and all that sort of stuff. By the way,
- 4:25Speaker 3: for those of you who took the VACs, you're in
- 4:28Speaker 3: the control group.
- 4:29Speaker 4: There you go.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Well, thank you for your service to the study.
- 4:32Speaker 4: We were all in the control group.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly. That was one of those things where if
- 4:36Speaker 3: you want to go visit your parents or take an airplane,
- 4:39Speaker 3: you got to get yourself into the study. So a
- 4:41Speaker 3: lot of us still with some upset feelings about that.
- 4:45Speaker 3: But yeah, I'm excited to get to the Ralph Normans thing.
- 4:48Speaker 3: What other things are we going to be talking about
- 4:50Speaker 3: this morning, Christopher? I saw that in... First off, in
- 4:54Speaker 3: Charleston County, you led South Carolina with the most first-day voters.
- 4:59Speaker 3: That just came out. About 10% of all first-day voting
- 5:03Speaker 3: happened in Charleston County. Is that amazing news for Annie Andrews?
- 5:07Speaker 4: I would think so, yeah. I mean, turnout has been
- 5:10Speaker 4: huge so far, doubling with the numbers we had the
- 5:13Speaker 4: last midterm election. So this has been big. But yeah,
- 5:17Speaker 4: if Charleston County is turning out like that, you would
- 5:20Speaker 4: think there are a large number of Annie Andrews supporters
- 5:22Speaker 4: down there.
- 5:23Speaker 3: Is this leading to a potential big win for the Democrats?
- 5:27Speaker 3: Are we looking at maybe a Nancy LaCour upset of
- 5:30Speaker 3: Jenny Honeycutt?
- 5:32Speaker 4: Yeah, it's hard to predict at this point, but I mean,
- 5:37Speaker 4: we saw in the runoff, early numbers don't necessarily tell
- 5:42Speaker 4: the entire story. So we'll have to see. But I
- 5:45Speaker 4: noticed the Cook Political Report, for example, has now changed
- 5:48Speaker 4: strongly strongly republican as far as the the graham andrews
- 5:52Speaker 4: race to now lean republican so they've downgraded it a
- 5:56Speaker 4: bit and that with the kahali numbers show that this
- 5:59Speaker 4: race is going to be close.
- 6:01Speaker 3: The um lacore team apparently yesterday also put out a
- 6:06Speaker 3: new is it being described as a tv ad it's
- 6:09Speaker 3: just a video, I guess. I don't know if it's
- 6:11Speaker 3: going to go on TV or if it's just going
- 6:13Speaker 3: to be like on, what do they call it? Digital,
- 6:15Speaker 3: like those pre-rolls. If you're on a YouTube videos or whatever,
- 6:18Speaker 3: those types of things, I'm not sure exactly where it's
- 6:20Speaker 3: going to air, but the ad basically from my understanding
- 6:25Speaker 3: of it is saying that she is coming out and saying,
- 6:30Speaker 3: I will protect women's sports, no trans in women's sports.
- 6:35Speaker 5: Hmm.
- 6:36Speaker 3: So that, would be more of that centrist ground that
- 6:40Speaker 3: most Americans agree in that the Democrat party, for whatever reason,
- 6:44Speaker 3: can't get on board with. I, you know, I, I
- 6:47Speaker 3: get it because it's become an issue here in South
- 6:49Speaker 3: Carolina because of the Annie Andrews previous comments.
- 6:53Speaker 4: At the same time, I don't think that's a big
- 6:56Speaker 4: drawing point. You know, nobody's talking about that right now
- 7:01Speaker 4: with the exception of the Andrews Graham campaign. So I
- 7:04Speaker 4: don't know. I'm not sure if you're, liqueur why you
- 7:08Speaker 4: drag that into your campaign. That's not an issue as
- 7:11Speaker 4: to why people are voting or not voting for you.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Well, I mean, we saw the pushback that Andrews got
- 7:19Speaker 3: when she made the same ad. Was it last week?
- 7:22Speaker 3: That came out. And universally condemned by the Democrat Party.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Funding started getting pulled off of her campaign. They are
- 7:29Speaker 3: very upset. The trans LGBTQ community says that she has
- 7:34Speaker 3: abandoned them and that we need trans athletes in women's sports.
- 7:38Speaker 3: That is a human dignity issue.
- 7:41Speaker 4: So why would you wade into that if you're LaCour
- 7:43Speaker 4: unless you think you've got some ground to gain, I guess,
- 7:49Speaker 4: with the middle part of the state? But otherwise, I
- 7:53Speaker 4: wouldn't have waded into it in the first place. It's
- 7:55Speaker 4: kind of like James Tallarico's pastor said. We have to
- 7:59Speaker 4: lie in order to get them to believe that that
- 8:01Speaker 4: is not our issue when it is, in fact, Our number.
- 8:05Speaker 3: One issue for James Tallarico. That is the number one issue.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Trans kids competing in sports, transing the children. That's his
- 8:13Speaker 3: number one issue, according to his pastor. And as soon
- 8:16Speaker 3: as this election is over, as she said, he will
- 8:18Speaker 3: come home. But right now he's saying what he has
- 8:21Speaker 3: to say to win elections. It would seem like a
- 8:23Speaker 3: lot of Democrats are doing the same thing. We'll take
- 8:24Speaker 3: a break. Maybe you've got some thoughts on our early
- 8:27Speaker 3: chats here this morning. If you're up early, boy, thank you.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Thank you for starting your day with us. We could
- 8:32Speaker 3: probably get you on the air right now if you
- 8:34Speaker 3: want to use the talkback feature. That's the big, juicy
- 8:36Speaker 3: red microphone button on the iHeartRadio app. We'll be back
- 8:40Speaker 3: in just a moment.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Live from the state capitol, this is South Carolina's Morning News.
- 8:46Speaker 3: And if you missed it, we announced that Ralph Norman
- 8:49Speaker 3: called in very early this morning, before the show started,
- 8:53Speaker 3: so I have it up as a full podcast. But first,
- 8:56Speaker 3: a little clip from the interview with Ralph Norman. about
- 9:01Speaker 3: this idea of a write-in Ralph campaign. He does not
- 9:04Speaker 3: support it. But what if, what if it was to
- 9:11Speaker 3: peel off enough would-be Darlene Graham supporters and lead to
- 9:17Speaker 3: the election of Democrat Annie Andrews?
- 9:21Speaker 6: Well, yeah, that's on the GOP. And, you know, the
- 9:24Speaker 6: fact is people are frustrated. Um, Kelly, they just are
- 9:29Speaker 6: because they sent something that's just wrong. Uh, Darlene knows it.
- 9:34Speaker 6: I mean, you know, I was going to cut off
- 9:36Speaker 6: the money supply, the no bid contracts, the, you know,
- 9:41Speaker 6: voting with Democrats. I was going to cut that off
- 9:43Speaker 6: and I was going to question everything as I'm supposed
- 9:46Speaker 6: to do. That's my record of eight years in Congress.
- 9:50Speaker 3: But, um, My.
- 9:53Speaker 6: Response is let people decide on their own in both
- 9:57Speaker 6: their conscience. I'm also very honest with them. What's the
- 10:04Speaker 6: likelihood of those who've asked me of being successful in
- 10:08Speaker 6: a right hand? And you have to say it's not
- 10:10Speaker 6: very– the odds are not very high. But I would
- 10:13Speaker 6: be guilty of what Donald Trump's doing is forcing, you know,
- 10:16Speaker 6: using my whatever influence I've got to say vote this
- 10:20Speaker 6: way or that way.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Christopher, thoughts on that?
- 10:24Speaker 4: Well, he says he's not in favor of it. And
- 10:29Speaker 4: then he says he understands the movement. It's almost as
- 10:33Speaker 4: if he's giving credence to those who want to write
- 10:36Speaker 4: his name in, although he points out the odds are
- 10:38Speaker 4: slim that it would make any difference other than throwing
- 10:41Speaker 4: the race away. Andrew's way, but he also... And this
- 10:45Speaker 4: is the first time I've heard him mention the fact
- 10:47Speaker 4: that his challenge of no-bid contracts is what led to
- 10:52Speaker 4: his possibly being taken out by his fellow Republicans.
- 10:57Speaker 3: There is a lot of things that he is very
- 11:01Speaker 3: upset about, and that's at the beginning of the interview.
- 11:04Speaker 3: He goes through a long list of grievances about who
- 11:08Speaker 3: did what to him and when, and he also... points
- 11:12Speaker 3: out near the end of the interview that you're not
- 11:16Speaker 3: going to see a write-in Ralph campaign at all in
- 11:19Speaker 3: the governor's race. Because as he pointed out, Alan Wilson
- 11:23Speaker 3: beat me fairly squarely. There was no shenanigans in that race.
- 11:27Speaker 3: He feels an apparent, you know, and again, the write-in
- 11:31Speaker 3: Ralph crew feels as if there were shenanigans.
- 11:35Speaker 4: Shenanigans beyond the president himself injecting himself into the race?
- 11:39Speaker 3: Yes.
- 11:40Speaker 7: Wow.
- 11:40Speaker 3: Okay. Yes.
- 11:41Speaker 4: Does he go into detail about what?
- 11:43Speaker 8: Yes.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Oh, ooh, okay.
- 11:45Speaker 9: Yes.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Names are named.
- 11:47Speaker 4: All right, Kelly, can I step away from the broadcast
- 11:50Speaker 4: for a few minutes and listen to your podcast?
- 11:53Speaker 3: Maybe we'll play more clips of that coming up. We're
- 11:56Speaker 3: trying to make this show as juicy as possible. Look,
- 12:00Speaker 3: Christopher and I are in the ratings business, so we've
- 12:02Speaker 3: got to give you little teases to keep you through
- 12:04Speaker 3: commercial breaks and then try to get you to come
- 12:06Speaker 3: back and listen to more. And so that's what we're
- 12:08Speaker 3: doing here today. Now, if you want to participate, we'd
- 12:11Speaker 3: love it when you talk back. Are you upset that
- 12:13Speaker 3: Ralph is... not coming out and full-throated endorsing darling Graham.
- 12:18Speaker 3: Are you upset that he said, but his position also being,
- 12:21Speaker 3: then I would be guilty of doing what the president did.
- 12:24Speaker 3: And that's what a lot of Republicans were upset about
- 12:26Speaker 3: was that the president interjected and used his influence to
- 12:31Speaker 3: swing the race one way or another. But the difference
- 12:37Speaker 3: also is that that's a primary. So you're talking about
- 12:40Speaker 3: two Republicans or numerous Republicans running and as opposed to
- 12:44Speaker 3: a Republican versus a Democrat. Team GOP is supposed to
- 12:47Speaker 3: be Team GOP. So, thoughts on that. Use the iHeartRadio app.
- 12:52Speaker 3: And we've got a lot to get to this morning.
- 12:54Speaker 3: We really do. And we certainly appreciate you starting your
- 12:56Speaker 3: day with South Carolina's Morning News.
- 12:58Speaker 2: This is South Carolina's Morning News.
- 13:02Speaker 3: With Kelly Nash and Christopher Thompson, good morning. The early
- 13:06Speaker 3: voting doubled the previous morning. first day voting. My gosh,
- 13:13Speaker 3: you people couldn't wait to get out and vote, apparently. Well,
- 13:16Speaker 3: maybe not everybody. I'm looking at these numbers and I'm saying, uh-oh,
- 13:22Speaker 3: it looks as if the fears are correct. The Democrats
- 13:26Speaker 3: are very energized. The number one county was Charleston County,
- 13:30Speaker 3: had 9,398 voters. That's 10% of the total vote came
- 13:35Speaker 3: out of Charleston County, which tends to lean a little
- 13:38Speaker 3: bit to the left. Also, if you were to look
- 13:42Speaker 3: at the number two county, that's Greenville. But the difference
- 13:47Speaker 3: is Greenville has almost 600,000 residents as opposed to Charleston
- 13:53Speaker 3: County at 439,000 residents. So significantly fewer people living in
- 14:00Speaker 3: Charleston County than Greenville County. And yet Charleston had more
- 14:03Speaker 3: people out than Richland County, which is about the same
- 14:06Speaker 3: size as Charleston County and also leans left. came in third.
- 14:12Speaker 3: If you're looking in the Midlands, Lexington had about half
- 14:15Speaker 3: the voters that Richland did. In other words, if you're
- 14:19Speaker 3: interpreting first-day voting as enthusiasm, the left has the enthusiasm
- 14:24Speaker 3: in South Carolina.
- 14:25Speaker 4: But we saw the left have that enthusiasm after the
- 14:28Speaker 4: failed attempt at redistricting, and they went to the polls saying,
- 14:32Speaker 4: oh yeah, we're going to ride this wave of momentum,
- 14:35Speaker 4: and I'm I'm not sure that's going to carry over
- 14:39Speaker 4: to election day. Republicans as a whole haven't embraced early
- 14:44Speaker 4: voting like Democrats have. I think there are still traditional
- 14:47Speaker 4: Republicans out there who say, yeah, I vote on election day.
- 14:50Speaker 4: That's when I vote. So I would take these numbers
- 14:54Speaker 4: with a grain of salt, although it is. It is
- 14:57Speaker 4: discouraging that that many, as you point out, left leaning
- 15:01Speaker 4: strongholds are so far going, you know, big numbers.
- 15:05Speaker 3: They really think they have a shot. I think they
- 15:07Speaker 3: believe they have a shot at the House seat. They
- 15:10Speaker 3: have a shot at the Senate. And that has got
- 15:13Speaker 3: them all fired up. So let that serve as a
- 15:16Speaker 3: warning to you if you're a Republican and you're thinking about, well,
- 15:20Speaker 3: maybe this is the year I don't need to get
- 15:22Speaker 3: up and get after it. Does my vote even matter? Well,
- 15:25Speaker 3: they always say that you actually made your decision in
- 15:27Speaker 3: the primary. And after that, it's just an afterthought in
- 15:29Speaker 3: South Carolina. Not so much this year. We'll take a
- 15:33Speaker 3: break for the news. Be back with more in just
- 15:35Speaker 3: a moment.
- 15:36Speaker 2: You're listening to South Carolina's Morning News.
- 15:39Speaker 3: And the South Carolina State Fair has been, I think,
- 15:45Speaker 3: doing fantastic. I've loved going with my son. Went to
- 15:49Speaker 3: the boiled peanut eating competition, obviously, last week. Weather has
- 15:53Speaker 3: been fantastic for the most part, a little bit chillier
- 15:56Speaker 3: than I would like, but it's been a great time,
- 15:59Speaker 3: and people are flocking from all across the Palmetto State
- 16:02Speaker 3: to Columbia and the state fairgrounds and having a big time,
- 16:06Speaker 3: but that is not the story that is getting a
- 16:08Speaker 3: lot of people's attention. If you were to go to
- 16:11Speaker 3: the Post and Courier, they have a headline, South Carolina
- 16:16Speaker 3: State Fair Visitors Are Frustrated. with the adult chaperone policy
- 16:22Speaker 3: allege discrimination. And this is a salacious headline, Christopher. They're
- 16:28Speaker 3: saying that if you show up with a biracial family,
- 16:32Speaker 3: that's just automatically you are rejected at the gate. Nobody's
- 16:37Speaker 3: getting in. Look, if the kids don't look like you,
- 16:41Speaker 3: you're not their parent, you're not getting in. Beat it,
- 16:44Speaker 3: kick rocks.
- 16:44Speaker 4: Well, that goes back to security policies that were put
- 16:47Speaker 4: in place couple of years ago because there was so
- 16:50Speaker 4: much mischief going on and it led to actual violence
- 16:53Speaker 4: at the state fair, which no one wants. So they
- 16:57Speaker 4: eventually came up with rules. You had to be of
- 16:59Speaker 4: a certain age to be at the fair at dark.
- 17:02Speaker 4: And then they refined those rules a couple of years
- 17:04Speaker 4: ago saying, all right, it's going to have to be
- 17:06Speaker 4: with a parent. You're going to have to have parental
- 17:08Speaker 4: supervision to be here at certain times of the day.
- 17:11Speaker 4: You can't just as a As an adult, you can't
- 17:15Speaker 4: just drop the kids off at the gate and say,
- 17:17Speaker 4: I'll pick you up in six hours and leave the
- 17:19Speaker 4: kids to their own devices. So it's got to be
- 17:21Speaker 4: an actual parent, not just a parent supervising a bunch
- 17:25Speaker 4: of kids. It's got to be, you've got to have
- 17:27Speaker 4: your parent being your kid, bringing them in.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Well, what about if I adopted them? Okay.
- 17:35Speaker 4: There, it seems like there are, if you ask for
- 17:38Speaker 4: a supervisor, which I guess some people are not doing,
- 17:41Speaker 4: some people are just, you know, raising cane. The minute
- 17:43Speaker 4: they get up there and say, well, now, wait a minute,
- 17:45Speaker 4: you're not the, are you the parent of this child
- 17:47Speaker 4: or not? If you ask for a supervisor, apparently there
- 17:50Speaker 4: are provisions in place where you can explain, okay, I
- 17:53Speaker 4: am the parent of this kid, may not look like me,
- 17:55Speaker 4: but here I am.
- 17:58Speaker 3: There is roughly 400,000 people who go to the state
- 18:03Speaker 3: fair annually. We're halfway through it right now, more than
- 18:08Speaker 3: halfway through it. It wraps up Sunday.
- 18:10Speaker 8: Okay.
- 18:11Speaker 3: So probably 250,000 people have been, and in grand total,
- 18:17Speaker 3: they've received three complaints. Three complaints.
- 18:21Speaker 4: So is this a big issue or just a big
- 18:23Speaker 4: issue for the newspaper?
- 18:24Speaker 3: Exactly. But it's also a big issue for Tamika Isaac-Devine.
- 18:29Speaker 3: State Senator Tamika Isaac-Devine has got a lot of hay
- 18:34Speaker 3: has been made. She's posted on her Facebook, I want
- 18:38Speaker 3: to know about it. I want to know about it.
- 18:40Speaker 3: I'm going to fight with the fairgrounds for your benefit.
- 18:44Speaker 3: So far, over 300 comments on that post, basically encouraging her,
- 18:48Speaker 3: nobody really pointing out to any specific issues. And as
- 18:54Speaker 3: you pointed out, Christopher, if you are going to the
- 18:56Speaker 3: state fair, you do, if you have a minor with you,
- 18:59Speaker 3: You're going to need to, you know, that is my child. Now,
- 19:03Speaker 3: most of us are going to not get a second look.
- 19:09Speaker 3: If I was, like, so for those of you who
- 19:13Speaker 3: don't know, I'm married to a black woman. We don't
- 19:16Speaker 3: have any children together, but we do have some nephews
- 19:19Speaker 3: and nieces. My niece is biracial. If my niece was
- 19:23Speaker 3: to come with us, I highly doubt that there would
- 19:27Speaker 3: be a lot of scrutiny because we look like responsible adults.
- 19:31Speaker 3: If it's me and her or just me and my
- 19:35Speaker 3: niece walking in together, somebody might say, you in charge
- 19:39Speaker 3: of her? Yeah, she's my kid. She's coming with me.
- 19:42Speaker 3: They're going to just let us through. It's the parents
- 19:45Speaker 3: that are 26 with a 18-year-old. That's the ones that
- 19:49Speaker 3: are getting this. scrutiny. Now, there is one that's got
- 19:54Speaker 3: a lot of, I guess, discussion. We don't know. All
- 20:01Speaker 3: we know is what she said was that she drove
- 20:03Speaker 3: up from, I think, Charleston. And she was turned away
- 20:08Speaker 3: even though, because two of the kids didn't look like
- 20:11Speaker 3: her because they're her adopted kids. And she said, we
- 20:15Speaker 3: had to go home. Maybe, maybe not.
- 20:17Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 20:19Speaker 3: That's her story. But Mike LaShuma, the fair safety director
- 20:22Speaker 3: says it's totally being mischaracterized. Like you said, we have
- 20:27Speaker 3: a team that this is their job is to confirm
- 20:30Speaker 3: that if there's a child that they're with a parent, um, and, um,
- 20:36Speaker 3: We have supervisors on duty at every gate who can
- 20:38Speaker 3: make exceptions to the policy based on the situations of
- 20:41Speaker 3: an individual, family, or group. So even if it's not
- 20:44Speaker 3: the parent, it's just a responsible adult you're going to
- 20:48Speaker 3: get in. But he says we're not perfect. If there's
- 20:50Speaker 3: a complaint, let us know about it. And like we said,
- 20:54Speaker 3: of the 250,000 or so who've shown up, we've had
- 20:56Speaker 3: three complaints.
- 20:58Speaker 4: And no major violence reported at the fair either. It's
- 21:02Speaker 4: a shame we have to have this policy in place
- 21:04Speaker 4: in the first place. I mean, it used to be
- 21:05Speaker 4: a rite of passage if you were, you know, a teenager.
- 21:08Speaker 4: You know, sometimes mom and dad would drop you off
- 21:10Speaker 4: and say, okay, have fun. You know, here's a little
- 21:12Speaker 4: bit of money. Be careful and come back and report
- 21:15Speaker 4: to the car at this time.
- 21:16Speaker 3: We raised kids differently then.
- 21:18Speaker 4: Yeah, you can't do that anymore.
- 21:19Speaker 3: Yeah, the kids that are being raised today, not everybody,
- 21:22Speaker 3: but a lot of the parents don't raise their children
- 21:25Speaker 3: that way. And so who are we going to hold
- 21:27Speaker 3: accountable when your kid's sitting on the, what is that
- 21:30Speaker 3: thing that goes over the entire fair and they're just
- 21:32Speaker 3: spitting on people?
- 21:33Speaker 5: Mm-hmm.
- 21:34Speaker 3: That was a big thing when I got here in 05,
- 21:36Speaker 3: that the kids would just be laying loogies out on everybody.
- 21:40Speaker 3: And so you were told, don't go near it because
- 21:43Speaker 3: they're aiming for you. And well, what are they going
- 21:46Speaker 3: to do about it? Well, there's nothing we can do.
- 21:47Speaker 3: Their parents aren't here. There's so many of them. It's
- 21:51Speaker 3: hard to find out which one did it. We're going
- 21:53Speaker 3: to have to throw them all out. And eventually that's
- 21:55Speaker 3: what they did. We're throwing everybody under the age of
- 21:57Speaker 3: 18 out. Nobody's allowed unless you come in with some
- 22:01Speaker 3: sort of parent or a guardian. And like you said,
- 22:05Speaker 3: the violence fell off a cliff. We have now restored
- 22:09Speaker 3: law and order to the South Carolina State Fair, and
- 22:12Speaker 3: it's about time. I celebrate it. Do you have thoughts
- 22:15Speaker 3: on the state fair? Have you gone? Did you get
- 22:16Speaker 3: a turkey leg? What do you enjoy about the state fair?
- 22:19Speaker 3: Let us know on the Talk Back feature. This is
- 22:22Speaker 3: Kelly Nash with Christopher Thompson. Back in a moment.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Your news, traffic, weather, and information stations. This is South
- 22:29Speaker 1: Carolina's morning news on 103.5 FM, 560 AM WVOC, and 94.3 WSC.
- 22:38Speaker 3: Kelly Nash, Christopher Thompson, and I am a resident of
- 22:42Speaker 3: Richland County, which continues to just shoot itself in the foot.
- 22:47Speaker 3: And they did it again last night at the Richland
- 22:50Speaker 3: County Council meeting. So, again, tongues are wagging at the
- 22:54Speaker 3: Westinghouse Electric Company and this idea that the Westinghouse Nuclear
- 22:59Speaker 3: Fuel Manufacturing Facility in Hopkins, what are we going to do?
- 23:03Speaker 3: How are we going to get it? How are we
- 23:04Speaker 3: going to make sure that we get it? Well... We
- 23:08Speaker 3: got it because Richland County Council has decided to lower
- 23:15Speaker 3: the taxable assessment ratio for that facility from 10.5% down
- 23:20Speaker 3: to 4%. And then they're going to freeze the property
- 23:23Speaker 3: tax rate for 40 years. And they're also going to
- 23:26Speaker 3: give them another extra 10% off for the first four
- 23:30Speaker 3: years that they're there. So when you think about giving
- 23:34Speaker 3: tax breaks, who is giving the tax break? Is it
- 23:38Speaker 3: the county council? In essence, sort of, yeah, but it's
- 23:43Speaker 3: actually the people who live in Richland County because the
- 23:47Speaker 3: schools are funded 100% by the taxes that are collected
- 23:53Speaker 3: by business owners. And so when you just dramatically cut that,
- 23:58Speaker 3: and yet understanding that those businesses are expanding and bringing
- 24:01Speaker 3: in new students, who's paying for these people? There's going
- 24:05Speaker 3: to have to be a millage rate or something like
- 24:08Speaker 3: that to try to figure out a way to get
- 24:10Speaker 3: the people who live in Richland County to pick up
- 24:13Speaker 3: the slack that Westinghouse is not going to pay for it. Christopher,
- 24:18Speaker 3: any thoughts?
- 24:21Speaker 4: I mean, we see this all the time. It's not
- 24:24Speaker 4: just about the tax breaks, too. It's about picking winners
- 24:27Speaker 4: and losers. Not that there was anybody in competition to
- 24:30Speaker 4: do what Westinghouse is doing necessarily, but What happens when
- 24:33Speaker 4: the next business comes in? Do you give them the
- 24:35Speaker 4: same tax break?
- 24:37Speaker 3: And I'm wondering, who are we in competition with for
- 24:40Speaker 3: the Westinghouse Nuclear Fuel Manufacturing Facility?
- 24:43Speaker 10: Right.
- 24:44Speaker 3: Is this like a five-star recruit that everybody's trying to get?
- 24:49Speaker 3: I don't know. You tell me. If you have thoughts
- 24:51Speaker 3: on that, use the talkback feature. We'll take a break.
- 24:53Speaker 1: From the Midlands to the Lowcountry, this is South Carolina's
- 24:57Speaker 1: Morning News.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Yes, this is Stephen from Reesville.
- 25:01Speaker 5: On the Westinghouse thing, you also have to look at
- 25:04Speaker 5: what the town and city and state is getting as
- 25:08Speaker 5: far as impact fees on what they're going to have
- 25:12Speaker 5: to do for infrastructure when they build the facility.
- 25:18Speaker 3: Good point, Stephen. Thank you for listening. And where did
- 25:21Speaker 3: he say he was from again, Christopher?
- 25:22Speaker 4: Reesville, I think is what he said.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Reesville. Where is that? Is that in the Midlands? I
- 25:27Speaker 3: don't even know. Is it Leesville or Reesville?
- 25:30Speaker 4: I think he said Reevesville.
- 25:33Speaker 3: I'm not familiar with Reevesville. I have to take a
- 25:35Speaker 3: trip out there and visit it and say, maybe I'll
- 25:38Speaker 3: meet Stephen when I'm out there and say, thank you
- 25:40Speaker 3: for listening, Stephen, in Reevesville. But yes, we were just
- 25:44Speaker 3: talking about how Westinghouse got a deal last night with
- 25:46Speaker 3: Richland County for a facility in Hopkins, which is going
- 25:50Speaker 3: to lower dramatically more than half of their... tax liability
- 25:55Speaker 3: goes from 10.5% down to 4%, and then they get
- 25:57Speaker 3: an extra 10% off their taxes the first four years
- 26:01Speaker 3: that they're there, and how that severely impacts the school
- 26:06Speaker 3: districts because that's where they get their funding from. We
- 26:10Speaker 3: had a bill passed here in South Carolina a number
- 26:12Speaker 3: of years ago where your income tax, excuse me, your
- 26:16Speaker 3: property tax does not pay into the school districts. So
- 26:19Speaker 3: it's really about the businesses. And of course, there's some
- 26:22Speaker 3: other ways for funding as well. But it's very frustrating
- 26:29Speaker 3: to see us continue to cut deals in order to
- 26:32Speaker 3: try to lure companies here, when in reality, we're the
- 26:35Speaker 3: five-star recruit. South Carolina is the five-star recruit. You should
- 26:40Speaker 3: be begging us to get in here, not the other
- 26:42Speaker 3: way around. We devalue what we're offering as a state
- 26:46Speaker 3: in order to lure companies here.
- 26:47Speaker 4: And Westinghouse is already here. They're just expanding. So I'm
- 26:51Speaker 4: not you know, it probably would have cost them a
- 26:53Speaker 4: lot more to go someplace else and build a facility
- 26:56Speaker 4: from scratch than expanding what they have currently in Hopkins.
- 26:59Speaker 3: Yet another brilliant point made by Christopher Thompson. All right,
- 27:02Speaker 3: we'll take a break. When we come back, more of
- 27:04Speaker 3: the Ralph Norman interview from this morning. Who's he upset with?
- 27:09Speaker 3: Who's he supporting? All that and more. I can't wait.
- 27:13Speaker 3: Thanks for starting your day with South Carolina's Morning News.
- 27:16Speaker 1: This is South Carolina's Morning News on 103.5 FM and
- 27:20Speaker 1: 560 AM, WVOC, Columbia, and 94.3 WSC, Charleston.
- 27:27Speaker 2: Good morning.
- 27:28Speaker 3: Kelly Nash here, Christopher Thompson there. And I should mention,
- 27:33Speaker 3: Christopher does a great job behind the scenes. I think
- 27:35Speaker 3: I mentioned it when he wasn't here, how... Much I
- 27:39Speaker 3: missed him being here. But one of the other things
- 27:41Speaker 3: that Christopher does that I'm not able to do, or
- 27:45Speaker 3: maybe I could have.
- 27:46Speaker 4: You could do it. I just haven't tasked you with
- 27:49Speaker 4: it yet.
- 27:50Speaker 3: Yeah, is produce the podcast. And so, you know, I
- 27:54Speaker 3: was looking at that yesterday, and Christopher is absolutely right.
- 27:56Speaker 3: There's hundreds and thousands of people who are downloading our podcast,
- 28:00Speaker 3: the SC Morning News podcast.
- 28:03Speaker 2: All over the world.
- 28:04Speaker 3: It's amazing to me how many people in like Japan
- 28:07Speaker 3: and places are listening to us. So thank you.
- 28:09Speaker 4: You're huge in Singapore.
- 28:12Speaker 3: I am like the, what was that guy's name? Michael. Oh,
- 28:14Speaker 3: I'm trying to think. The guy who is the Knight Rider.
- 28:17Speaker 4: David Hasselhoff.
- 28:19Speaker 3: I'm the Hasselhoff of where again in Singapore? Man, they
- 28:22Speaker 3: can't get enough of me in Singapore. But we also,
- 28:25Speaker 3: for those of you interested, if you're looking for other
- 28:28Speaker 3: ways of listening, we do live stream the show on Xbox. Facebook,
- 28:34Speaker 3: and YouTube. So, at Kelly Nash Radio, you can live
- 28:37Speaker 3: stream the show there. All right. This morning, Ralph Norman
- 28:41Speaker 3: called in. Probably went about 15 minutes with him. I
- 28:45Speaker 3: mentioned to him that he is supporting, by the way,
- 28:49Speaker 3: Darlene Graham. Now, what does that support look like? I
- 28:53Speaker 3: was rebuffed when I brought up the idea of appearing
- 28:57Speaker 3: with Ms. Graham. That did not.
- 29:02Speaker 3: That was not something that he was up for. Period
- 29:05Speaker 3: or just tonight with Donald Trump? No, period, full stop. Okay.
- 29:09Speaker 3: Never going to do it. Okay. He then, I brought
- 29:12Speaker 3: up the point that, look, if Annie Andrews wins, and
- 29:17Speaker 3: if that's the one vote that sends the Senate to
- 29:20Speaker 3: the Democrats, that's a bad prescription for America.
- 29:23Speaker 11: It is.
- 29:25Speaker 6: It's a bad prescription that you've got Republicans on. who
- 29:28Speaker 6: are only running on the Republican ticket just to get elected.
- 29:32Speaker 6: This is more than about an election. I mean, I
- 29:34Speaker 6: don't want what happened to me to happen to other
- 29:37Speaker 6: candidates in South Carolina. I love this state. That's why
- 29:41Speaker 6: I've given a lot of time and effort into trying
- 29:45Speaker 6: to make it better and trying to represent the people
- 29:48Speaker 6: of South Carolina. We're a conservative state, but we, the establishment,
- 29:52Speaker 6: what they did with teaming up with Democrats to— we shouldn't
- 29:57Speaker 6: even be in this situation. We're electing somebody for six years,
- 30:02Speaker 6: and we should not even have to face this. But
- 30:04Speaker 6: that's where we are. That question should have been asked,
- 30:08Speaker 6: quite frankly, by the Republican Party in South Carolina of
- 30:11Speaker 6: who is the most conservative, best candidate to run. And
- 30:15Speaker 6: take my name out of the picture. What candidate is
- 30:19Speaker 6: that a year ago? But the way they blitzed me
- 30:22Speaker 6: and just misrepresented it, I see the frustration. And I'll
- 30:27Speaker 6: also say this, Kelly, you don't see a right end
- 30:29Speaker 6: with Governor. Alan Wilson beat me fair and square, and
- 30:34Speaker 6: he was truthful on what he said. You know, the
- 30:37Speaker 6: issues disagree with me on issues or votes all day long,
- 30:41Speaker 6: not on the smear campaign that has hit a new
- 30:45Speaker 6: low with Darling Graham and with President Trump, with the
- 30:49Speaker 6: whole establishment, which I just reject. And again, it's more
- 30:55Speaker 6: than about Ralph Norman. It's about the future of the
- 30:59Speaker 6: state and how candidates, if you flood it with money,
- 31:02Speaker 6: you can put anybody in. And that's what's happened with
- 31:05Speaker 6: Dolly Graham, in my opinion.
- 31:09Speaker 3: Not a happy camper.
- 31:10Speaker 4: Establishment is just shy of Rhino as a word. You
- 31:14Speaker 4: do not want to hear if you're a Republican being
- 31:17Speaker 4: called establishment. I mean, you might as well say it,
- 31:20Speaker 4: even if it's not in Washington, DC, you're talking about
- 31:23Speaker 4: the swamp.
- 31:24Speaker 3: That is the swamp. That is the swamp. And that's
- 31:27Speaker 3: what Ralph is saying happened at the, uh, campaign was
- 31:32Speaker 3: flooded with swamp money and mischaracterizations of his voting records,
- 31:38Speaker 3: mischaracterizations of his personal records. I mean, he feels as if,
- 31:44Speaker 3: and he's again, he's saying the Republicans did this. This is,
- 31:48Speaker 3: he's not saying the Democrats did it. He's saying that
- 31:51Speaker 3: Republicans lied about him because they wanted to protect their
- 31:56Speaker 3: interests in DC. And he's very upset. Now he, again,
- 32:01Speaker 3: I said, I thought you were going to support the nominee.
- 32:05Speaker 3: He said, I will be voting for her. I will.
- 32:08Speaker 3: That's my support. And that's where it ends. What do
- 32:10Speaker 3: you think of that, South Carolinians? Are you happy to
- 32:14Speaker 3: hear Ralph is supporting Darlene Graham with his vote? Are
- 32:18Speaker 3: you concerned that there's a right in Ralph campaign that
- 32:22Speaker 3: he says he mentioned it earlier? We talked about that.
- 32:26Speaker 3: He's not associated with it. He doesn't expect it will
- 32:30Speaker 3: amount to much. but he's not going to deter it
- 32:34Speaker 3: because he says, I don't want to be guilty of
- 32:35Speaker 3: what I'm accusing the president of, which is using his
- 32:38Speaker 3: influence to try to tell people how to vote.
- 32:42Speaker 4: I would think if you're a write-in guy or gal,
- 32:45Speaker 4: you're probably more encouraged. You're probably more upset at the
- 32:49Speaker 4: system and probably even more ready to write in Ralph's
- 32:52Speaker 4: name after hearing what Ralph Norman had to say.
- 32:54Speaker 3: To me, there's a world of difference between between an
- 33:00Speaker 3: endorsement and trying to get people to vote for your
- 33:04Speaker 3: candidate in the primary, as opposed to trying to get
- 33:08Speaker 3: them to vote in the general election. Team Republic, in
- 33:11Speaker 3: my estimation, this is where Ralph and I are separate.
- 33:15Speaker 3: I love Ralph Norman. I think he's a great American.
- 33:18Speaker 3: I think he's wrong on this issue. I think that
- 33:19Speaker 3: he should be full-throated endorsement of Darlene Graham because the
- 33:23Speaker 3: option should concern all freedom-loving people. And by the way,
- 33:29Speaker 3: speaking of that, we're going to talk with Mr. James
- 33:33Speaker 3: Carville about how James Carville has come over to Team Nash.
- 33:39Speaker 3: James Carville and I are seeing eye-to-eye on an issue.
- 33:42Speaker 3: We're going to get into that next. And of course,
- 33:43Speaker 3: your talkbacks as well, if you'd like to talk about
- 33:46Speaker 3: This issue with Ralph Norman or anything else that's going
- 33:49Speaker 3: on in South Carolina or anything in the world of
- 33:51Speaker 3: news or politics, please let us know on the iHeartRadio app.
- 33:55Speaker 1: Live from the state capitol, this is South Carolina's Morning News.
- 34:03Speaker 12: Problem with Darlene Graham is that she's just another rubber
- 34:08Speaker 12: stamp for the Trump agenda. You know, this woman has
- 34:13Speaker 12: never worked in politics. And because she's Lindsey's sister, she
- 34:20Speaker 12: is somehow a good candidate.
- 34:23Speaker 13: If Ralph cares like he says he cares, he would
- 34:26Speaker 13: back Graham 100%. I think he's just being a sore
- 34:30Speaker 13: loser here. It's just politics, buddy. Put your big boy
- 34:36Speaker 13: pants back on and get back in the game.
- 34:39Speaker 3: Hey guys, Carl from Charleston.
- 34:42Speaker 5: How long has Ralph Norman been in politics?
- 34:45Speaker 2: And what does he think that the Democrats.
- 34:47Speaker 6: Were going to do to him?
- 34:50Speaker 3: All valid talkbacks. The ones that are saying Ralph should
- 34:56Speaker 3: understand that this is the way politics has always been played.
- 34:59Speaker 3: And the other one who says, you know, Darlene is
- 35:01Speaker 3: not a qualified candidate. I completely understand where you're coming from.
- 35:04Speaker 3: She has no political experience, but she would point out
- 35:07Speaker 3: I've been a public servant for many years. And then
- 35:11Speaker 3: there'd be other people who would say, You know, Trump
- 35:14Speaker 3: had no political experience as well.
- 35:16Speaker 6: And I.
- 35:18Speaker 3: Mean, it's this is just one of those very passionate
- 35:22Speaker 3: issues in South Carolina politics right now, Christopher. I don't
- 35:28Speaker 3: think we're going to get it resolved. Whoever wins this
- 35:30Speaker 3: upcoming midterm, whether it is Darlene or Annie, I think
- 35:35Speaker 3: we're going to just be dealing with this for years
- 35:37Speaker 3: to come.
- 35:38Speaker 4: Agreed. And the talkbacks continue to flow in if you
- 35:40Speaker 4: want more.
- 35:41Speaker 3: Uh, we, you know what, we'll have to take a
- 35:43Speaker 3: break here and we will come back with more. If
- 35:45Speaker 3: you look at, we just played part of the interview
- 35:47Speaker 3: with Ralph Norman that we had early this morning. Thank
- 35:50Speaker 3: you to the Congressman for waking up early to do
- 35:52Speaker 3: that with me. Uh, so we could get it up
- 35:55Speaker 3: as a podcast. Now, if you want to hear the
- 35:56Speaker 3: entire like 12, 15 minutes, whatever it is, That is
- 36:00Speaker 3: on the National Briefing Podcast on the iHeartRadio app. We
- 36:04Speaker 3: were talking earlier about the SC Morning News podcast, also
- 36:08Speaker 3: on the iHeartRadio app. That way you can hear the
- 36:10Speaker 3: entire show when it's done. It's about 90 minutes, if
- 36:14Speaker 3: I remember right, the entire show. The three hours that
- 36:18Speaker 3: we do here turns into about 90 minutes after you
- 36:20Speaker 3: take out the weathers and traffics and all those types
- 36:22Speaker 3: of things. But the National Briefing Podcast is about a
- 36:26Speaker 3: 10 to 15-minute daily podcast that I usually get up
- 36:30Speaker 3: before 6 a.m. trying to talk about some sort of
- 36:33Speaker 3: issue of the day. And I will talk eventually about
- 36:36Speaker 3: the other issue that I was talking about, how me
- 36:38Speaker 3: and James Carville see eye to eye. And I'm going
- 36:40Speaker 3: to argue against, I'm going to take on Matthew McConaughey
- 36:43Speaker 3: at some point in this show.
- 36:45Speaker 2: All right, all right, all right. All right.
- 36:46Speaker 3: We got a lot going on today. But again, more
- 36:49Speaker 3: of your talkbacks. Christopher says they're lining up now. Please
- 36:51Speaker 3: get yours in as well on that iHeartRadio app.
- 36:54Speaker 2: This is South Carolina's Morning News.
- 36:58Speaker 3: Oh, I'm looking at Christopher. He's looking at me. All right,
- 37:00Speaker 3: I thought we were going to go to a talkback there,
- 37:01Speaker 3: but that's okay. We don't need to get to the
- 37:03Speaker 3: talkbacks just yet, unless you have them lined up.
- 37:06Speaker 4: I thought we were doing Jim Carville here. Sorry, my bad.
- 37:09Speaker 3: That's okay.
- 37:09Speaker 4: That's on me. I fumbled.
- 37:12Speaker 3: It's all good. You want me to go to James Carville?
- 37:14Speaker 4: I'm ready now.
- 37:15Speaker 3: Because I was going to say, Carville's going to make
- 37:16Speaker 3: the same point I think a lot of these people
- 37:18Speaker 3: are going to make. I'm ready.
- 37:19Speaker 4: I've got a couple of talkbacks here again on Darlene
- 37:21Speaker 4: Graham and Ralph Norman.
- 37:22Speaker 14: I don't care about Darlene Graham's experience. What experience does
- 37:27Speaker 14: Danny Andrews have? That's a really poor excuse to not
- 37:30Speaker 14: vote for Darlene Graham. I'm voting for her to not
- 37:34Speaker 14: vote for the Democrats because the socialists will get in
- 37:37Speaker 14: leadership roles.
- 37:39Speaker 8: Can't have that.
- 37:41Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 37:41Speaker 9: Ladies and gentlemen, this is Mark in Charleston, South Carolina.
- 37:46Speaker 9: After listening to Ralph's interview this morning, I can tell
- 37:52Speaker 9: you I did vote for him in the primary. but
- 37:56Speaker 9: I am so disappointed in his sour grapes attitude and
- 38:00Speaker 9: his lack of support for the party. I regret that
- 38:04Speaker 9: vote for him now, and he would never get a
- 38:06Speaker 9: vote from me again.
- 38:07Speaker 3: Oh, that's painful. Mark down in Charleston. Thank you. I'm
- 38:11Speaker 3: not sure who the young lady was, but I think
- 38:13Speaker 3: she's a WSC listener as well. And certainly appreciate you
- 38:17Speaker 3: listening on the I heart radio app and letting your
- 38:19Speaker 3: voice be heard. I think that, a lot of us
- 38:23Speaker 3: are seeing this situation the same way, although not all
- 38:26Speaker 3: of us, obviously the right in Ralph campaign has some momentum.
- 38:30Speaker 3: They've got their own website. They've got, you know, the
- 38:33Speaker 3: hashtag is flowing on social media. Anytime we post anything
- 38:37Speaker 3: about Darlene Graham or Annie Andrews, or even when I
- 38:41Speaker 3: posted my interview with Casey Whitener, the libertarian, uh, some
- 38:46Speaker 3: social media pages were filled up with right in Ralph. Um,
- 38:51Speaker 3: I was hopeful that Ralph would— I knew he wasn't supporting
- 38:55Speaker 3: the Right in Ralph campaign. I was hopeful he would say, listen,
- 38:58Speaker 3: we've got to make sure— even if you hate Darlene, you've
- 39:03Speaker 3: got to make sure that the Democrats don't get power.
- 39:06Speaker 3: This is not an election where you can— you don't have
- 39:09Speaker 3: the luxury of a protest vote. You know, oftentimes we hear, well,
- 39:14Speaker 3: the Republican Party would learn something if we let a
- 39:18Speaker 3: Democrat win today. But it's not letting a Democrat win.
- 39:22Speaker 3: In this instance, you're letting the party win. And I
- 39:26Speaker 3: think it was the young lady who said that the socialists.
- 39:29Speaker 3: take over. They are taking over the party. They're in
- 39:32Speaker 3: the middle of that takeover as we speak. So the
- 39:36Speaker 3: lesson that we learn, we would be paying for that
- 39:40Speaker 3: lesson the rest of our lives, I believe.
- 39:42Speaker 4: Well, and this is bigger than a congressional race in that,
- 39:45Speaker 4: you know, you've got two years to teach your lesson
- 39:48Speaker 4: and then Turn the seat back over. This is a
- 39:51Speaker 4: six-year term that you would be potentially giving a Democrat.
- 39:55Speaker 3: That's a long lesson. It's a long lesson. Probably a
- 39:58Speaker 3: painful one. We'll see what people have to say about that.
- 40:01Speaker 3: If you have more talkbacks, please use the iHeartRadio app
- 40:04Speaker 3: and get in touch with us. And perhaps we'll get
- 40:07Speaker 3: to Matthew McConaughey and James Carville. and the lessons that
- 40:11Speaker 3: they want to teach us, I'm going to argue against McConaughey,
- 40:14Speaker 3: and I'm going to agree with James Carville. This is
- 40:16Speaker 3: one of the rarest days ever that I'm agreeing with
- 40:19Speaker 3: James Carville. Yes, you'll hear what he has to say
- 40:21Speaker 3: coming up on South Carolina's Morning News.
- 40:24Speaker 2: You're listening to South Carolina's Morning News.
- 40:27Speaker 3: Kelly Nash here, Christopher Thompson there, and the mayor of
- 40:32Speaker 3: Mount Pleasant, Will Haney, in a new TV ad. For
- 40:37Speaker 3: Nancy LaCour, here's a clip of that.
- 40:39Speaker 6: And us.
- 40:40Speaker 15: She'll be a watchdog for our tax dollars and stand
- 40:43Speaker 15: up to both parties to lower costs, secure our border,
- 40:47Speaker 15: and protect girls' sports. Nancy knows what makes the Lowcountry special.
- 40:52Speaker 3: I'm Nancy LaCour. I'm proud to have Mayor Haney's support,
- 40:54Speaker 3: and I approve this message. There you go. Nancy is
- 40:58Speaker 3: in the center. And again, earlier, Christopher and I were
- 41:02Speaker 3: talking about that ad before we'd seen it. And it
- 41:04Speaker 3: was the thing that's getting the attention is protect women's sports,
- 41:09Speaker 3: because that is I'm already seeing some LGBTQ people push
- 41:13Speaker 3: back on Nancy about that. We heard about that with
- 41:15Speaker 3: Annie Andrews. But the trans issue is something that a
- 41:19Speaker 3: lot of people are concerned about. But if you're going
- 41:22Speaker 3: to win this election, you're going to have to run
- 41:25Speaker 3: as a centrist. And maybe you are a centrist. Maybe,
- 41:30Speaker 3: in fact, you are a Democrat centrist. But with that
- 41:34Speaker 3: in mind, let me bring over here to this pot,
- 41:37Speaker 3: never friend of the show, James Carville and his thoughts
- 41:41Speaker 3: on the midterms.
- 41:42Speaker 6: I would rather the Republicans keep the House by five
- 41:46Speaker 6: than the Democrats win by five.
- 41:48Speaker 4: Because if that happens, they're hostage to the DSA.
- 41:52Speaker 3: Hakeem cannot move. There's no place for him to go.
- 41:55Speaker 2: It's a nightmare, 225.
- 41:56Speaker 4: There you go.
- 41:58Speaker 3: James Carville says vote Republican.
- 42:02Speaker 4: There's your headline right there.
- 42:04Speaker 3: James Carville says vote Republican. Bad news, Nancy LaCour. James
- 42:10Speaker 3: Carville says if you win, it doesn't matter who you are.
- 42:14Speaker 3: It doesn't matter that Hakeem Jeffries wants to be a moderate.
- 42:18Speaker 3: It doesn't matter that the majority of Americans hate the
- 42:21Speaker 3: Democrat socialists. The only thing that matters is the Democrat
- 42:25Speaker 3: Party has been infiltrated with a cancer. It is a cancer.
- 42:30Speaker 3: It's an anti-American virus that is hell-bent on killing the
- 42:35Speaker 3: American dream and just destroying the Constitution. And you have
- 42:39Speaker 3: that in the Democrat Party now. And the only way
- 42:43Speaker 3: To kill it is like you kill any other cancer.
- 42:45Speaker 3: You've got to starve it. You've got to get a big,
- 42:48Speaker 3: fat dose of chemotherapy. For any of you who've ever
- 42:51Speaker 3: been through chemotherapy, I've had many family members go through it.
- 42:54Speaker 3: It is a brutal experience for them because you're taking
- 42:58Speaker 3: them as close to death as possible in order to
- 43:02Speaker 3: stop the cancer from spreading. The Democrat Party now has
- 43:06Speaker 3: to go through a process where one of two things
- 43:09Speaker 3: is going to happen. They are either going to bring
- 43:11Speaker 3: themselves to the verge of death in order to get
- 43:14Speaker 3: rid of the socialists, or the socialism will rise just
- 43:19Speaker 3: like James Carville says it will. If we get power,
- 43:22Speaker 3: the socialists will be emboldened. They will hold the party hostage.
- 43:25Speaker 3: And they will continue to overthrow it. And it's not
- 43:28Speaker 3: a new thing. Bernie Sanders, you should have stopped Bernie
- 43:31Speaker 3: Sanders more than a decade ago. He ran as a
- 43:35Speaker 3: socialist on the Democrat ticket. That was a horrific idea.
- 43:40Speaker 3: And you allowed it. I think he originally ran in
- 43:43Speaker 3: like 08. You should have never allowed him to run
- 43:46Speaker 3: as a Democrat. If you're not a Democrat, you're not
- 43:48Speaker 3: allowed to run as a Democrat. If you don't swear
- 43:50Speaker 3: allegiance to the Republican Party, you can run as an independent.
- 43:54Speaker 3: but you cannot run as a Republican. You got to
- 43:57Speaker 3: make sure that you keep these people out. We see
- 43:59Speaker 3: fringes getting in, trying to get into the Republican party
- 44:02Speaker 3: and they are rebuffed. I'm thinking of a, what's that
- 44:05Speaker 3: guy's name? Fuentes, Nick Fuentes, trying to get into the
- 44:09Speaker 3: Republican party and he's been thoroughly rebuffed. You've got a
- 44:14Speaker 3: fringe podcasters and people, and then people who go off the,
- 44:19Speaker 3: off the plant. You know what, what happened to Tucker Carlson?
- 44:22Speaker 3: He went crazy. Tucker Carlson went nuts, and he has been,
- 44:26Speaker 3: for the most part, I know J.D. Vance is still
- 44:29Speaker 3: friends with him, but J.D. Vance would tell you Tucker
- 44:31Speaker 3: Carlson is pretty much 100% wrong 100% of the time
- 44:35Speaker 3: right now. Something's happened in Tucker Carlson's brain. He's a
- 44:39Speaker 3: nut job. And he does not represent the Republican Party anymore.
- 44:43Speaker 3: He's a pro-Hamas, pro-Russia, pro-anything that's anti-American. That's not a Republican.
- 44:51Speaker 3: Republicans love Americans. By the way, so do the Democrats.
- 44:54Speaker 3: The Democrats love America. They want a more robust, we'll say,
- 44:59Speaker 3: welfare state. They want more social programs. We can battle
- 45:04Speaker 3: between those two all day long. That's a fair argument.
- 45:10Speaker 3: The idea of destroying the Constitution, opening up the prisons,
- 45:14Speaker 3: all of this stuff that they're introducing, that is what
- 45:17Speaker 3: you're seeing in Europe. And again, James Carville, guy's got
- 45:21Speaker 3: to be, what, 75 years old? Probably been a Democrat
- 45:24Speaker 3: since the day he could speak. That guy says vote Republican.
- 45:28Speaker 4: We saw shades of this in 2020 when. Biden and
- 45:31Speaker 4: Harris got elected immediately. Leadership, Democrat leadership started being attacked.
- 45:37Speaker 4: AOC was in Pelosi's ear constantly. Chuck Schumer was being
- 45:40Speaker 4: driven down. The administration was being asked, all right, wait
- 45:44Speaker 4: a minute. We got you elected. Where are all the
- 45:46Speaker 4: green new ideas that we got you elected on? Where,
- 45:50Speaker 4: how come they're not getting done faster? And you'll see
- 45:52Speaker 4: the same thing. You may have Democrat leadership, moderate Democrat
- 45:57Speaker 4: leadership assume leadership. you know, bigger positions, but they will be,
- 46:01Speaker 4: even if the DSA doesn't control the majority, they will
- 46:04Speaker 4: drag the Democrats into their position.
- 46:07Speaker 3: And that's the cancer. That's the cancer. It may look okay.
- 46:11Speaker 3: You might know people who have cancer and they look fine.
- 46:15Speaker 3: They don't look like they're suffering, but they are. They're
- 46:19Speaker 3: battling for their lives. The Democrat party is battling for
- 46:23Speaker 3: its life right now. We should all pray for the Democrats.
- 46:26Speaker 3: You should, you know, pray that the Democrats can rebuff
- 46:30Speaker 3: this socialism. And they can't do it if you elect
- 46:33Speaker 3: people like Nancy LaCour, who is running as a moderate
- 46:37Speaker 3: and may be a moderate, or Annie Andrews, who may
- 46:39Speaker 3: in fact be a moderate, although I have my doubts.
- 46:43Speaker 3: That doesn't matter. It just feeds the cancer, which is
- 46:47Speaker 3: the Democrat socialists. And I'm going to stop calling them
- 46:49Speaker 3: the Democrat socialists. They are the socialists. They're the Marxists.
- 46:53Speaker 3: They're the communists. These are the people that hate America,
- 46:57Speaker 3: and you see it playing out across Europe already. They
- 47:00Speaker 3: want to destroy everything in order to get us all
- 47:03Speaker 3: back to a base level. They hate Western culture. They
- 47:06Speaker 3: hate civilization in general, and they don't want it. They
- 47:10Speaker 3: reject it. That's why you see them targeting things of
- 47:13Speaker 3: art and statues, these types of things, because that's a
- 47:18Speaker 3: remembrance of a great time And like France's history or
- 47:22Speaker 3: Italy's history or the United States history or whatever, they
- 47:26Speaker 3: want all that crap erased. We're going to bring it
- 47:28Speaker 3: back to the ground level and we'll rebuild it in
- 47:31Speaker 3: the image of Stalin. Golly. All right. Do you agree
- 47:35Speaker 3: with that opinion? That's a nuanced opinion there, isn't it?
- 47:40Speaker 3: What do you think of that idea? Vote Republican, even
- 47:43Speaker 3: if you're a Democrat, in order to save the Democrat Party.
- 47:46Speaker 3: We've got that up for— and then we're going to go
- 47:49Speaker 3: kind of in the same idea Matthew McConaughey's chiming into politics.
- 47:53Speaker 3: We'll talk about his position. and get more of your
- 47:56Speaker 3: talkbacks off the iHeartRadio app. It's South Carolina's Morning News.
- 47:59Speaker 2: Your news, traffic, weather, and information stations.
- 48:03Speaker 1: This is South Carolina's Morning News on 103.5 FM, 560
- 48:09Speaker 1: AM WVOC, and 94.3 WSC.
- 48:14Speaker 15: So you're telling me that James Carville is more of
- 48:18Speaker 15: a Republican than... These Ralph Norman supporters that are all
- 48:22Speaker 15: up in their emotions like Democrats.
- 48:25Speaker 2: Good morning, gentlemen.
- 48:26Speaker 8: This is Chris from Lexington. Whatever happened to it being
- 48:30Speaker 8: the best person for the job in politics? Not saying
- 48:35Speaker 8: that Annie Andrews is the best person, but it never
- 48:38Speaker 8: was about just a complete party and voting down party lines.
- 48:43Speaker 8: If there's one that's better for the job and it
- 48:45Speaker 8: just happens to be on the other side, then so
- 48:48Speaker 8: be it.
- 48:48Speaker 12: I'm just curious where you guys get your talking points
- 48:52Speaker 12: from because I'm absolutely shocked with your take on Tucker.
- 48:58Speaker 12: That's just like insanity. If you listen to more than
- 49:02Speaker 12: one episode or listen to more than what all these
- 49:06Speaker 12: idiots online are blabbing about, you would know that that
- 49:10Speaker 12: is the furthest thing from Tucker's position.
- 49:13Speaker 10: Hey, this is Elder from Charleston. I'm going to have
- 49:16Speaker 10: to disagree with you on that. Tucker Carlson and Candace...
- 49:20Speaker 10: Owens are both 100% correct in trying to vilify them
- 49:24Speaker 10: as just propaganda from the enemy.
- 49:27Speaker 3: Wow. Okay, so Candace Owens, that's a new one to us.
- 49:31Speaker 3: Candace Owens is the one who says that Charlie Kirk
- 49:34Speaker 3: was assassinated by Israel, and they did it with a
- 49:37Speaker 3: microphone gun. that it was his microphone that shot him
- 49:41Speaker 3: through the neck. That is one of the most disgusting
- 49:44Speaker 3: allegations of all time. I'm not going to get into
- 49:46Speaker 3: the whole thing about calling the president of France's wife
- 49:50Speaker 3: a man. She'll be, I guess, appearing in court on
- 49:53Speaker 3: that one coming up. But back to Tucker Carlson. Tucker Carlson, quote,
- 49:58Speaker 3: I'm definitely more sympathetic to Putin than to the Ukrainian president,
- 50:03Speaker 3: and I think that the United States should end all
- 50:05Speaker 3: financial and military support for the Ukraines. And I don't
- 50:09Speaker 3: consider myself to be pro-Russian, just pro-American. And Americans have
- 50:14Speaker 3: been misled for decades about the actual goals of Russia.
- 50:19Speaker 3: That is a nut job.
- 50:21Speaker 4: Pretty clear.
- 50:22Speaker 3: Yeah, he is a nut job. Tucker Carlson is off that.
- 50:25Speaker 3: By the way, here's another one. Many times I've said
- 50:27Speaker 3: on television the problem is radical Islam. The problem is
- 50:30Speaker 3: Muslims who get radicalized, that they want to kill us,
- 50:33Speaker 3: that they're all crazy, that they're all on this lunatic
- 50:35Speaker 3: suicide cult created by Muhammad in the 7th century, and
- 50:39Speaker 3: I actually believed it. But now I know that that
- 50:41Speaker 3: is not, in fact, the case. It's not radical Muslims.
- 50:45Speaker 3: It's not radical Islam, according to Tucker Carlson. You're not
- 50:47Speaker 3: seeing any radical Islamic activity in the world today. They're
- 50:51Speaker 3: that's not the terrorist groups. These are not the terrorists
- 50:54Speaker 3: you're looking for. Look, Tucker Carlson bought a home in Qatar.
- 50:57Speaker 3: Did he buy it? Was it given to him? It
- 51:00Speaker 3: kind of feels like it was given to him. Kind
- 51:02Speaker 3: of feels like he's on the Qatari payroll these days.
- 51:05Speaker 3: And I don't think that that's insane to feel that way,
- 51:08Speaker 3: to look at Tucker Carlson's sudden shift away from America,
- 51:13Speaker 3: moving to Qatar and then taking these pro Russia, pro
- 51:18Speaker 3: Muslim positions and saying that he feels more welcome inside
- 51:22Speaker 3: a Muslim mosque than he does in most churches. That's
- 51:26Speaker 3: a stupid, insane thing to say as well. But anyway,
- 51:30Speaker 3: if you love Tucker Carlson, love Tucker Carlson. I'm like
- 51:33Speaker 3: Ralph Norman. I'm not telling you who to vote for.
- 51:35Speaker 3: If you like Tucker and you like your Candace Owens,
- 51:37Speaker 3: go ahead. They are providing a source of entertainment, and
- 51:40Speaker 3: that's all it is. It's entertainment. They're not providing any
- 51:45Speaker 3: actual news. They're commenting on the news kind of like
- 51:48Speaker 3: what we do here we comment on the news um
- 51:51Speaker 3: but getting back to what was the first one about
- 51:53Speaker 3: christopher although we're upset that the ralph norman supporters yeah not.
- 51:57Speaker 4: Carvel's more of a republican than ralph norman supporters.
- 52:01Speaker 3: Look i'm a ralph norman supporter i voted for ralph
- 52:05Speaker 3: um and unlike that first talk back that we had
- 52:07Speaker 3: this morning i do not regret my vote for ralph
- 52:10Speaker 3: i thought he was a great candidate however that being
- 52:12Speaker 3: said I understand that politics is a team sport and
- 52:16Speaker 3: I'm team GOP more so than ever because I'm anti-socialist.
- 52:22Speaker 3: I'm anti-communist. And that is where the Democrat Party is
- 52:25Speaker 3: going to. All right, we are running late and definitely
- 52:27Speaker 3: need to take a break. Back with more in just
- 52:29Speaker 3: a moment.
- 52:30Speaker 1: From the Midlands to the Lowcountry, this is South Carolina's
- 52:34Speaker 1: Morning News.
- 52:35Speaker 7: The problem isn't how great your show is and what
- 52:39Speaker 7: you're telling the people. The problem is The ones that
- 52:45Speaker 7: need to hear it aren't listening to you. They're listening
- 52:51Speaker 7: to the person that's offering them everything for free. When
- 52:58Speaker 7: they realize that the free ain't free, then it's too late.
- 53:04Speaker 3: All right. Thank you for using the talkback feature. I
- 53:07Speaker 3: wish I knew who she was. You're right. Look, news
- 53:11Speaker 3: talk radio can probably between the podcasts that, you know,
- 53:17Speaker 3: are out there, whether you're talking about Tucker Carlson or
- 53:21Speaker 3: Ben Shapiro, or, you know, the biggest names in the
- 53:25Speaker 3: podcasting world, or you're just talking about actual news talk
- 53:29Speaker 3: radio with Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity and whatever. Around
- 53:33Speaker 3: the country, it's probably 10%, maybe 12% of Americans consume
- 53:36Speaker 3: that kind of content. It's it's a very small group
- 53:43Speaker 3: of people in the bigger scheme of things. I mean,
- 53:46Speaker 3: it's millions and millions of Americans, don't get me wrong,
- 53:48Speaker 3: but there's 330 million Americans, roughly 170 million are going
- 53:53Speaker 3: to be involved in some degree with political campaigns and
- 53:58Speaker 3: voting and that sort of stuff. So, you know, if
- 54:00Speaker 3: you've got 30 million listening, the vast majority are not.
- 54:06Speaker 3: And the reason that people are listening to conservative stuff
- 54:10Speaker 3: is because they tend to lean that way or they
- 54:12Speaker 3: hate it. I love the fact that I have so
- 54:14Speaker 3: many people who hate my guts chiming in. I just said,
- 54:18Speaker 3: I just told one guy, appreciate you big guy. He's
- 54:20Speaker 3: just commented on some of the stuff. Um, and maybe
- 54:23Speaker 3: you do the same thing. Maybe you go and watch
- 54:25Speaker 3: like mainstream media outlets and just scream at the television.
- 54:28Speaker 3: These people are lying. The lies, the lies. Anyway, we'll
- 54:33Speaker 3: take a break for the news. We'll be back with
- 54:35Speaker 3: more and some of your talkbacks as well off the
- 54:37Speaker 3: iHeartRadio app.
- 54:38Speaker 1: This is South Carolina's morning news on 103.5 FM and
- 54:42Speaker 1: 560 AM, WVOC, Columbia, and 94.3 WSC, Charleston.
- 54:49Speaker 3: I was just looking around Columbia, things to do tonight.
- 54:53Speaker 3: Boo at the Zoo is back. That goes through Friday
- 54:56Speaker 3: the 30th, the Riverbank Zoo. That's always a good time. $ 19,
- 55:00Speaker 3: it looks like, to get in. But also tonight, Christopher,
- 55:04Speaker 3: are you going to the Garnet and Black Madness with
- 55:07Speaker 3: Soulja Boy?
- 55:08Speaker 4: I'm going to have to sit that one out.
- 55:10Speaker 3: This is the unofficial kickoff to basketball and Soulja Boy.
- 55:15Speaker 3: He's the guy who sang that song that Shane Beamer
- 55:19Speaker 3: came out to. It was like four years ago. Put
- 55:22Speaker 3: the sunglasses on. Yeah, put my swag on. Anyway, he'll
- 55:29Speaker 3: be at the Colonial Life Arena, I guess, tonight. And
- 55:32Speaker 3: that's only six hours if you want to go cheer
- 55:34Speaker 3: the men's and women's on as they get ready to
- 55:36Speaker 3: take on the 2026 season. I think it was yesterday.
- 55:41Speaker 3: Maybe it was a day previous. Matthew McConaughey announced that
- 55:44Speaker 3: he is partnering with Joe Manchin. And they are trying
- 55:48Speaker 3: to drive America back to the middle.
- 55:51Speaker 16: The number one political identity in America today is not Republican.
- 55:56Speaker 3: It is not Democrat.
- 55:57Speaker 4: It is independent, more of us than either party.
- 56:01Speaker 11: So independents belong in the fight, not as a protest,
- 56:06Speaker 11: not as a spoiler, but as a real and potential
- 56:09Speaker 11: winner on the ballot and considered seriously by us.
- 56:15Speaker 16: This Congress is one of the narrowest in modern history.
- 56:19Speaker 16: In a Congress as close as this one, three to
- 56:21Speaker 16: five true independents, ones who don't caucus with either side, well, they're.
- 56:26Speaker 3: Not a minority.
- 56:28Speaker 4: They're the majority maker.
- 56:31Speaker 11: Nothing passes without them.
- 56:33Speaker 16: Every bill has to come through the middle, which means
- 56:36Speaker 16: both parties would finally have to compete for the middle.
- 56:40Speaker 3: Most of us.
- 56:41Speaker 16: Independents don't just have leverage.
- 56:44Speaker 4: They actually are the leverage.
- 56:46Speaker 3: Deep thoughts. Matthew McConaughey. And it's, look, Matthew's a great
- 56:51Speaker 3: actor and seems like a very likable person. And I
- 56:55Speaker 3: don't even think that he's wrong on a lot of
- 56:58Speaker 3: what he's saying there. Of course, if you had an independent,
- 57:03Speaker 3: numerous independents, like he said, five of them or so,
- 57:06Speaker 3: five people who did not caucus with either party, they
- 57:12Speaker 3: would be difference makers. The reality, though, is those people
- 57:17Speaker 3: don't exist. You have two independents currently serving, Angus King
- 57:23Speaker 3: and Bernie Sanders. They caucus with the Democrats. They also
- 57:27Speaker 3: basically run as Democrats. They've had the Democrat machine behind
- 57:31Speaker 3: them for years. Some would say Susan Collins and Lisa
- 57:36Speaker 3: Murkowski are independent, but they are Republicans. It's it's. I
- 57:41Speaker 3: don't want to say it's impossible to run as an independent,
- 57:44Speaker 3: but I will point out that Donald Trump basically tried
- 57:47Speaker 3: it as a third-party candidate years ago, and it was
- 57:51Speaker 3: an unmitigated disaster because you don't have the infrastructure. Donald
- 57:57Speaker 3: Trump came to the realization that if you want to
- 57:59Speaker 3: change the Republican Party, and I know some of you
- 58:02Speaker 3: don't want to hear this, Donald Trump changed the Republican Party,
- 58:06Speaker 3: and he made it more centrist. Yes, I said centrist.
- 58:10Speaker 3: Donald Trump expanded the size of government. He expanded the
- 58:15Speaker 3: amount of spending in government. These are Democrat policies. Donald
- 58:19Speaker 3: Trump agrees with a lot of the Democrat positions. He
- 58:23Speaker 3: also did some great things for the right. But if
- 58:27Speaker 3: you were just talking about a traditional Republican, Donald Trump
- 58:32Speaker 3: does not align with a traditional Republican.
- 58:34Speaker 4: No, nobody would ever call Donald Trump a quote-unquote conservative.
- 58:39Speaker 3: He needed to get into a party to change the party.
- 58:42Speaker 3: It's the same thing that you see the DSA doing.
- 58:45Speaker 3: You've got to get into the party and then change
- 58:48Speaker 3: the party from within. There is no independent unless they
- 58:52Speaker 3: are independently wealthy and can throw hundreds of millions of
- 58:57Speaker 3: dollars into a race and probably already have some name
- 59:01Speaker 3: recognition in Maybe from the world of business, but most
- 59:06Speaker 3: likely probably from the world of politics, meaning that at
- 59:09Speaker 3: some point. they were already affiliated with the Republican and
- 59:13Speaker 3: the Democrat party. And they just found one of the,
- 59:15Speaker 3: you know, they don't like the positions. They have a
- 59:18Speaker 3: centrist position that perhaps like Trump, they wanted to grow
- 59:23Speaker 3: some certain parts of the government, which again, conservatives would
- 59:27Speaker 3: be against all of that. We don't want to grow
- 59:29Speaker 3: any part of government. And at this point, I think
- 59:32Speaker 3: most Republicans would say we are willing to take a
- 59:38Speaker 3: second and harder look at the Pentagon budget, not looking
- 59:42Speaker 3: for base closures, not looking to cut the size of
- 59:45Speaker 3: the military, looking to cut the size of the money
- 59:48Speaker 3: that we spend on the military. It seems to be
- 59:51Speaker 3: too much. We should be able to dial that back
- 59:54Speaker 3: as well as dialing back a bunch of other programs
- 59:56Speaker 3: that we have in this country. And like the U.S. aid,
- 59:59Speaker 3: that was a fantastic cut. There's many more, though, that
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: could still be made. You cannot run a deficit when
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: you're $ 40 trillion in debt already. That is a massive
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: problem for conservatives, not for Democrats. And for Democrats, you
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: can't have people in your party pushing for the ending
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: of the Constitution, for God's sakes. That is lunacy. you
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: have lunacy on the left, you've got a problem on
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: the right. And that's why I think when you look
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: at politics or excuse me, when you look at polls
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: right now, it seems as if most Americans are not
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: happy with either party, Christopher.
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: That's yeah. That's, that's why you've got this huge, I
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: don't know if, I don't know how big it is,
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: but you know, McConaughey makes a great point. There are
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: people who consider themselves, you know, independent of either party.
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: If it was a big enough faction, you know, what
- 1:00:49Speaker 4: would they do? They would form their own party. So
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: essentially they're going to, like you said, essentially they're going
- 1:00:54Speaker 4: to have to join the party, join the system in
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: order to make a big impact.
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: And that's what the Donald Trump vote was originally was
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: we wanted to blow up DC, drain the swamp. And
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: it was a uniparty is what a lot of Americans
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: were saying back in 2016. I think some of them
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: are still saying it, that the Democrats and the Republicans,
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: it's like pro wrestling that they, actually work together to
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: fund each other's projects. That's how a lot of Americans
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: felt about it. But if you want a legit third party,
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: now you're talking hundreds of billions of dollars needed. Or
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: are you just saying you want an independent to run
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: good luck without the infrastructure? Because again, Republicans and when
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: you look at this upcoming midterm, it's all about getting
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: voters who are part of the base to come out.
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: We're looking at 40 to 45 percent of eligible voters voting.
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: The majority of eligible voters, people who are registered to vote,
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: are not even going to come out to this election
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: because they're turned off.
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: Yeah, turnout is going to be, that's going to be
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: the winner. Whoever can drive the biggest turnout. That's why
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: you see, and I mean, we're seeing it in neighborhoods
- 1:02:02Speaker 4: all over South Carolina. These parties are going door to
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: door right now. It's not about digital. It's not about
- 1:02:07Speaker 4: what they hear on the radio or on TV. It's
- 1:02:10Speaker 4: about making money. a physical contact with somebody and saying,
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: let's get you to the polls on election day.
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: Could I drive you there now? Anyway, so I look,
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: Matthew McConaughey taking the very popular position. That's the most
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: popular position in America and probably setting himself up for
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: a run for Texas governor. And he'll give you the
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: horns up before he does it. And I don't know.
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: Good luck, Matthew McConaughey. But no, his position of getting
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: independents elected to Congress in this election cycle is amazing.
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: disingenuous at best. Uh, you need to vote for one
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: of the two parties. And again, I'm voting Republican with
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: James Carville. Uh, if you want to give us some
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: thoughts back on that, if you missed the James Carville
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: or whatever, Christopher, we'll have that up as part of
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: our SC morning news podcast. Shortly after the show ends today,
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: you get that off the I heart radio app.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: Live from the state Capitol. This is South Carolina's morning news.
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: With Kelly Nash and Christopher Thompson. The, uh, Senate races
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: all across the country. We're in some weird waters right
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: now as the Cook Political Report has now moved. The
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: state of Minnesota is now leaning over. slightly left, although
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: the polls that have come out today show Michelle Tafoya
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: has taken the lead.
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: To the state earlier this year.
- 1:03:31Speaker 17: While she was second in command of this state, Minnesota
- 1:03:35Speaker 17: saw billions and billions and billions of fraud dollars walk
- 1:03:41Speaker 17: out the door to fraudsters while Medicaid was gutted.
- 1:03:44Speaker 18: The governor's been very clear that the buck stops with him.
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: That was the worst... When they raided that debate, which
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: happened Friday night, that's what did her in.
- 1:03:55Speaker 6: Wow.
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: The Minnesotans are like, what are you talking about? So
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: at this point, although the Cook political report shifts it
- 1:04:04Speaker 3: to leaning— let me get back to what they said about that.
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: Republicans have been bullish on Minnesota for months, given the
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: state's welfare fraud scandal, and that hope continues with new polling.
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: The Democrat Senate nominee, Lieutenant Governor Penny Flanagan— recent polling
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: shows her continuing to trend down. Yeah, so if you
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: look at Minnesota, it looks like the Republicans are going
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: to pick that state up. However, I think that the
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: big headline for us here in South Carolina, and they've
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: really captured the essence of it, I think, with their headline,
- 1:04:39Speaker 3: the Cook Political Report, candidate quality shifts the Senate map.
- 1:04:45Speaker 3: South Carolina and Mississippi are moving towards Democrats, Minnesota now
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: moving towards the GOP. The shift in states like South Carolina,
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: which had started as solid Republican to likely Republican to
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: now leaning Republican, further evidence, blah, blah, blah. Both races
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: feature unique factors that making each more competitive than they
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: actually should be. And I, you know, if you look
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: at the governor's race in South Carolina and Another poll
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: comes out, double-digit lead for the Republican, Alan Wilson, but
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: not so in the Senate race. And we were talking
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: with Ralph Norman. If you missed that earlier, maybe we'll
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: play some more of it a little later on here
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: in the show. But the entire podcast is up on
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: the National Briefing podcast if you want to hear the
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: Ralph Norman interview.
- 1:05:37Speaker 4: I've got to think, as successful a campaign as Alan
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: Wilson has run, and he's at this point pulling double
- 1:05:44Speaker 4: digits ahead of his competitor, Jermaine Johnson. I've got to
- 1:05:48Speaker 4: think there are going to be some coattails there that
- 1:05:52Speaker 4: Darlene Graham is going to get the advantage of tugging onto.
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: Is it enough?
- 1:05:58Speaker 4: Well, that's a big question.
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: I mean, a lot of the same people are answering
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: the polls and saying, I'm voting for Allen, but I'm
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: voting for Casey Whitener. Or I'm voting, I'm still undecided.
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: Or I'm imagining a few of them are saying, I'm
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: going to vote for Annie Andrews.
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: Maybe so.
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: I just....
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: Again, as strong a campaign as Wilson has run and
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: as many people as– they might say one thing, but
- 1:06:23Speaker 4: they go to the polls and they're like, all right, well,
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: I've stood in line for two hours. By the time
- 1:06:28Speaker 4: I finally get into the booth, I'm just going to
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: select all Republican, and that's going to be my ticket.
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: Is that a prayer or is that?
- 1:06:38Speaker 4: That's my thought that it might happen.
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: It might go that way. We hope that it goes
- 1:06:42Speaker 3: that way. And tonight will be a big night. We're
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: going to I'm sure tomorrow we'll be talking a lot
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: about what goes down tonight in Pendleton. Donald Trump is
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: in South Carolina with Darlene Graham. It said to help
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: candidates like Darlene Graham. I think it's pretty safe to
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: say it is to help Darlene Graham. If it was
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: about the first district and what's happening in Charleston, I
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: don't think Trump shows up. I don't think he cares
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: about the House races as much. He's here for Darlene Graham.
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: And it's in the upstate where Ralph Norman dominated.
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: Yes. And again, you and I just talked about this.
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: It's about getting the base out. The base of the
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: South Carolina Republican Party lives in the upstate. They don't
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: live in the low country. They don't live in the PD.
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: They don't live in the Midlands, although we have plenty
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: of them here. It is not the base. The base
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: is the upstate, which is usually like a plus 20,
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: plus 25 for the Republicans, depending on which races you're
- 1:07:43Speaker 3: looking at. They dominate up there. And right now, those
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: people are sitting on their hands saying, I don't want
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: to vote. Can Trump get them back to the polls? Now, again,
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: a lot of them are already angry at Trump. They
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: don't like the fact that Trump took away, in their estimation,
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: their candidate, Ralph Norman. And so I don't know, does
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: Trump help himself or hurt himself by showing up tonight?
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: That's a great question. And I don't know what he
- 1:08:08Speaker 4: could say. I mean, I know, you know, he's made
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: promises at these various campaign stops he's done talking about,
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: you know, on I'll give you this or, you know,
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: I make a pledge to do this. If you elect
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: Republicans in the midterms, I don't know that there's anything
- 1:08:23Speaker 4: he can say to placate those who didn't like him
- 1:08:26Speaker 4: injecting himself into the race the first time around.
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: Well, we'll see what kind of dance he brings out.
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: The Dog and Pony Show comes to town tonight. Pendleton,
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: get ready for it. We'll be talking about it tomorrow morning.
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: If you've got some early thoughts on that or the
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: surprise in Minnesota or any of the other races that
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: we're following, let us know about it on the Talk
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: Back feature.
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: This is South Carolina's Morning News.
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: With Kelly Nash and Christopher Thompson last night, I went
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: down to the Steel Hands Brewery in Casey for the
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: Congressman Joe Wilson bus tour. It was good to see him.
- 1:09:00Speaker 3: put out a photo, kind of in defiance of his wife, Roxanne,
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: who hates the thumbs-up videos. Put the thumbs-up in the picture.
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: She hates that. Of course, she wasn't there yet, so
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: we posed for pictures like that. But he just texted me, Christopher.
- 1:09:14Speaker 3: He says, you are a wise man. He believes... like
- 1:09:18Speaker 3: you believe. And that's all I'm going to say about that.
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: But he says, Christopher's correct as always. Oh, okay.
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: I thought he was talking about you.
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: No, Christopher Thompson is correct. The congressman wants you to
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: know that.
- 1:09:29Speaker 4: Very kind of him to say.
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: And I think he's got his bus tour this morning.
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: I think he'll be in Columbia on Two Notch Road
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: at U.S. Brick at about 10.05, according to the press
- 1:09:40Speaker 3: releases that I see going out. So I hope the
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: congressman enjoys the bus tour. Not a lot of discussion
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: in District 2. We're having a lot in District 1
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: down in Charleston. We'll be Maybe getting back into that
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: and other things. And of course, your talk backs off
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: the I Heart Radio app in just a moment.
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: You're listening to South Carolina's Morning News.
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: All right. Hope you're having a great start to your morning.
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: Kelly Nash, Christopher Thompson, early this morning before we kicked
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: off the show at 6 a.m. Before that happened, I
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: spoke with Ralph Norman on the phone, getting his thoughts
- 1:10:15Speaker 3: on the Trump rally coming up tonight. His thoughts on
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: Darlene Graham. Is he supporting her? And here's a little
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: excerpt of that discussion with the congressman.
- 1:10:27Speaker 6: I will tell you this. For me to, in spite
- 1:10:29Speaker 6: of the $ 10 million that was spent against me, I
- 1:10:32Speaker 6: came close to getting 48% of the vote, which was
- 1:10:36Speaker 6: a miracle, to be honest with you. But 175,000 people
- 1:10:38Speaker 6: came out to support me. All that to say is
- 1:10:40Speaker 6: I'm going to do what I said personally. My family
- 1:10:49Speaker 6: is not going to vote for Darlene Cram. They're just not. Now,
- 1:10:53Speaker 6: they're grown and with their own children can do what
- 1:10:56Speaker 6: they want. But I will because I promised to do that.
- 1:11:02Speaker 6: But that's about as clear as I can make it.
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: So we're talking with Congressman Ralph Norman. In this endeavor
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: to support the GOP candidate, would you be willing to.
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: Do anything with Senator Graham campaign-wise? If they asked you
- 1:11:22Speaker 3: to appear with her at an event or something like that,
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: would you be open to that?
- 1:11:28Speaker 6: And they have already made that call. Not to me,
- 1:11:32Speaker 6: but they made it to our chief of staff. And
- 1:11:35Speaker 6: I just can't take part in something that, again, I'm
- 1:11:39Speaker 6: going to back what I said about me personally supporting,
- 1:11:43Speaker 6: but the way this played out and, you know, her
- 1:11:50Speaker 6: ducking debates. And the South Carolina Republican Party has got
- 1:11:55Speaker 6: some blame on their hands, along with President Trump, who
- 1:11:58Speaker 6: just did the wrong thing. And the other kind of,
- 1:12:01Speaker 6: I mean, Tim Scott, Senator Scott, I like. But to
- 1:12:05Speaker 6: put the senatorial money against me, I had some of
- 1:12:09Speaker 6: the most conservative members of the Senate And Rick Scott
- 1:12:15Speaker 6: and Mike Lee support me. Who did Darlene have? Murkowski
- 1:12:19Speaker 6: and others. But, no, I would not do an event
- 1:12:22Speaker 6: with her, and I made that pretty clear. When I
- 1:12:26Speaker 6: conceded the race, I called her and congratulated her. But
- 1:12:30Speaker 6: that's the only time I've spoken with her.
- 1:12:32Speaker 8: All right.
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: You can hear all of the interview with Ralph Norman.
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: It's about 12 to 15 minutes, if I remember right.
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: We got that up on the National Briefing podcast. Christopher,
- 1:12:42Speaker 3: that's the first time you've heard that clip. Any fresh
- 1:12:46Speaker 3: new thoughts on that?
- 1:12:48Speaker 4: I understand he's bitter about the process. Correct. He's not
- 1:12:52Speaker 4: necessarily bitter about Darlene Graham. He's bitter about the way
- 1:12:56Speaker 4: people around her attacked him, the way people supporting her
- 1:13:01Speaker 4: attacked him. And again, this is playing one set of
- 1:13:04Speaker 4: Republicans against another, which— it's always bruising, it's always bloody
- 1:13:10Speaker 4: during a primary battle, but this just felt different.
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: I was surprised that he called out Tim Scott. He
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: does name the South Carolina GOP, and of course he
- 1:13:20Speaker 3: mentions Trump.
- 1:13:21Speaker 8: Sure.
- 1:13:22Speaker 3: But he is also now blaming Tim Scott for putting
- 1:13:26Speaker 3: his hands on the scale, so to speak. If you
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: guys have any feedback on this, again, we are Less
- 1:13:32Speaker 3: than two weeks away from Election Day, and it's already
- 1:13:35Speaker 3: begun the biggest first-day voting totals ever. People are getting
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: out to the polls, letting their voices be heard. If
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: you want to get yours on the radio, use the
- 1:13:45Speaker 3: TalkBack feature. We love it when you go to the
- 1:13:47Speaker 3: iHeartRadio app, which you haven't downloaded yet. What is wrong
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: with it? It's free. Just go ahead and look for
- 1:13:52Speaker 3: wherever you get apps. Look for iHeartRadio. Download that and
- 1:13:56Speaker 3: then look for this radio station. Are you listening to
- 1:13:58Speaker 3: WVOC in Columbia? Are you listening to WSC in Charleston?
- 1:14:02Speaker 3: Download either one of the, or excuse me, put those
- 1:14:04Speaker 3: as one of your favorite stations and you can just
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: stream the show live there. And then when you are listening,
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: you push the little red microphone button and you get
- 1:14:11Speaker 3: to put a message right through to Christopher Thompson and myself.
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: We'll be back in just a moment.
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: Your news, traffic, weather, and information stations.
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: This is South Carolina's morning news on 103.5 FM, 560 AM, WVOC,
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: and 94.3 WSC. Poor Ralph.
- 1:14:31Speaker 3: All I got to say is it's just sour grapes.
- 1:14:34Speaker 7: He's being a crybaby, and he could cost us this
- 1:14:37Speaker 7: election if he doesn't straighten up.
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: That seems to be a general consensus amongst a lot
- 1:14:45Speaker 3: of the talkbacks, but not all of them. We've certainly
- 1:14:48Speaker 3: heard from other people who absolutely agree with Ralph Norman
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: that what happened here is a travesty and that Donald
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: Trump kind of threw the election to what some are
- 1:14:59Speaker 3: saying is the wrong candidate. Christopher, any thoughts on what
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: we heard earlier from Ralph Norman?
- 1:15:06Speaker 4: Well, we've got a few more talkbacks coming in.
- 1:15:08Speaker 17: Okay.
- 1:15:08Speaker 4: If you'll give me just a second.
- 1:15:13Speaker 19: Norman sounds like a butthurt sore loser who lost two
- 1:15:16Speaker 19: statewide primaries that the voters decide. So he's mad at
- 1:15:22Speaker 19: the voters more than anybody. He just can't say that.
- 1:15:25Speaker 3: I appreciate that one's coming in from the low country.
- 1:15:28Speaker 3: I wish I knew who that was, but a great
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: butthurt sore loser.
- 1:15:34Speaker 4: One more from the low country as well as we
- 1:15:37Speaker 4: dial it up here. And we're doing this in real time.
- 1:15:40Speaker 3: Real time. Mega, mega Mike from Goose Creek.
- 1:15:46Speaker 18: And I am really disappointed in Ralph Norman. I supported
- 1:15:50Speaker 18: him and voted for him every time he was on
- 1:15:54Speaker 18: the ballot. And my mind is completely changed now. I
- 1:16:00Speaker 18: would never vote for Ralph Norman.
- 1:16:02Speaker 3: Mega, mega Mike. I like it.
- 1:16:06Speaker 4: From Goose Creek.
- 1:16:07Speaker 3: I think we've heard from Mega Mega Mike before. I
- 1:16:09Speaker 3: think so. I remember that nickname. It's a very powerful nickname. Mike,
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: congratulations on coining that. You know, I think that just
- 1:16:18Speaker 3: being honest, you're probably not going to have another opportunity
- 1:16:21Speaker 3: to vote for Ralph Norman, I would think. I mean, maybe. He's,
- 1:16:25Speaker 3: what is he, like 74 right now, something like that?
- 1:16:28Speaker 3: It doesn't seem likely that he would. I mean, he's
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: obviously not running for his house seat again. Not that
- 1:16:33Speaker 3: you would be able to vote for that in Goose Creek.
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: So it would have to be a statewide office. And,
- 1:16:37Speaker 3: you know, Tim Scott's seat will be up. Is it
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: in two years that Tim Scott's seat is up? I
- 1:16:43Speaker 3: can't remember.
- 1:16:44Speaker 4: I think so.
- 1:16:45Speaker 3: And then obviously the next governor's race is not for
- 1:16:47Speaker 3: four more years. So it's doubtful that he'll be on
- 1:16:52Speaker 3: the ballot. By the way, I did speak to him
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: about his future and where he sees that going. And
- 1:16:58Speaker 3: he's got some plans. He's got some thoughts and ideas.
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: You can hear about that on the National Briefing Podcast.
- 1:17:05Speaker 3: That's on the iHeartRadio app, as is South Carolina's Morning
- 1:17:09Speaker 3: News Podcast, where we recapture all of the show content
- 1:17:14Speaker 3: and put it together for you for about a 90-minute podcast.
- 1:17:16Speaker 3: That'll be uploaded about 30 minutes after the show ends.
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: And that includes the talkbacks. You'll get to hear yourself
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: forever and ever on a podcast if you use the
- 1:17:25Speaker 3: talkback feature and By the way, one of our friends, Gruff,
- 1:17:29Speaker 3: was commenting on my ex post. And he said, what
- 1:17:33Speaker 3: did he say again? Dang it, I just lost it.
- 1:17:36Speaker 3: But it was basically, he was messing around with us
- 1:17:39Speaker 3: and saying, you know, mama told him never use the
- 1:17:43Speaker 3: talkback feature. Just kidding. Go ahead and use the talkback feature, folks.
- 1:17:48Speaker 3: But yeah, if you have access to an app, Please
- 1:17:51Speaker 3: download the iHeartRadio app and listen to South Carolina's morning
- 1:17:53Speaker 3: news there. And that way you can engage with us
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: on the talkback feature. We certainly do appreciate that. Time
- 1:17:59Speaker 3: for one more segment, I think, coming up in just
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: a moment.
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: From the Midlands to the Lowcountry, this is South Carolina's
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: morning news.
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: This is John in Lexington.
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: Just want to check in about Mr.
- 1:18:10Speaker 8: Norman.
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: Voted for him and really want him to win. But
- 1:18:15Speaker 3: at the end of the day, that's done.
- 1:18:16Speaker 15: We've got to get behind Darlene and get it done
- 1:18:18Speaker 15: for our state and for our country.
- 1:18:20Speaker 3: I appreciate what you guys do. Well, thank you, John,
- 1:18:24Speaker 3: from Lexington for using the Talkback feature and plugging in.
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: I also got an email from John. I don't know,
- 1:18:31Speaker 3: probably not the same John. He commented, I listened to you.
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: So he's actually commenting on the entire interview. He listened
- 1:18:37Speaker 3: to the National Briefing podcast this morning because this email,
- 1:18:41Speaker 3: I'm just seeing it now. It came in very early
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: this morning and we posted that about 6 a.m. I
- 1:18:46Speaker 3: just listened to your interview with Ralph this morning and
- 1:18:48Speaker 3: his attitude towards this situation and me. As I needed
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: to recenter my day, I have turned to my Jesus-calling devotional.
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: So we've got people praying. That's good. Kevin has chimed
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: in and says, Good morning, gentlemen. This is Kevin from
- 1:19:04Speaker 3: Mount Pleasant. Yesterday, the Mount Pleasant mayor, Will Haley— Republican
- 1:19:09Speaker 3: was in a TV commercial endorsing Nancy LaCour. I voted
- 1:19:13Speaker 3: for him twice and I will never do it again.
- 1:19:15Speaker 3: He's a traitor. Kevin, I agree. If you run as
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: a Republican, you should be team Republican. If you want
- 1:19:24Speaker 3: to be an independent, be an independent. And if you
- 1:19:26Speaker 3: want to be a Democrat, be a Democrat. And I
- 1:19:28Speaker 3: also think it's important that we protect the parties. The
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: Democrats have not done a good job of protecting the parties.
- 1:19:36Speaker 3: You're seeing lots of What we would call traditional Democrats
- 1:19:41Speaker 3: now making their way to the microphone to condemn the
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: socialists that have infiltrated their party. That would have been
- 1:19:49Speaker 3: useful before it happened. Too little, too late. You should
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: have stopped AOC. You should have stopped Bernie Sanders. You
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: should have you should be why a lot of them
- 1:19:58Speaker 3: are full throated against James Tallarico. and they're against El-Sayed,
- 1:20:02Speaker 3: and they're against a bunch of them, but it's too
- 1:20:04Speaker 3: little too late. They're winning. They just won in New York, what,
- 1:20:09Speaker 3: three seats? I mean, basically they won. They won their primaries,
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: which means they're going to win because it's a, you know,
- 1:20:15Speaker 3: 70-30 type of district, so they're going to win, and
- 1:20:20Speaker 3: they're going to have more House members, and it's just
- 1:20:21Speaker 3: going to continue to get worse and worse, and that's
- 1:20:25Speaker 3: why James Carville, if you missed that point earlier, said,
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: I'm I don't want the Democrats to win the House
- 1:20:33Speaker 3: if it's only going to be by five seats, because
- 1:20:35Speaker 3: if they're going to win by five seats, that means
- 1:20:37Speaker 3: that they're going to have to give in to the socialists. Now,
- 1:20:40Speaker 3: if they had a 20-seat margin, he thinks, Carville, that
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: they would bring it back to the center and they
- 1:20:44Speaker 3: would start eliminating the socialists. I'm not so sure. I'd
- 1:20:49Speaker 3: look at this type of a problem like we talked
- 1:20:51Speaker 3: about earlier with chemotherapy. You've got to take the the body,
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: in this instance, the Democrat body, as close to death
- 1:20:59Speaker 3: as possible in order to starve the socialists, make them
- 1:21:03Speaker 3: go start their own party. And they had their own party,
- 1:21:06Speaker 3: and then they just kind of wormed their way in
- 1:21:08Speaker 3: like a cancer into the Democrats, and now they're killing
- 1:21:12Speaker 3: the Democrat party. The same thing is true for us
- 1:21:15Speaker 3: on the Republican side. We have to be vigilant against
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: extremists Like Nick Fuentes and others who want to infiltrate
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: the party and take us down a path that most
- 1:21:26Speaker 3: of us don't agree with. And so, thankfully, we've done
- 1:21:31Speaker 3: a pretty good job of it.
- 1:21:32Speaker 4: Interesting to note, Kelly, of all the talkbacks we received today,
- 1:21:36Speaker 4: the write-in Ralph campaign folks, the supporters, have been very
- 1:21:40Speaker 4: quiet this morning.
- 1:21:43Speaker 3: Okay. You know what? That is a challenge for you
- 1:21:47Speaker 3: right in, Ralphers. Will you get on the Talkback feature
- 1:21:50Speaker 3: tomorrow or text that, tweet us, email us, whatever? Again,
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: you can listen to the entire show today and confirm
- 1:21:57Speaker 3: what Christopher said by listening to all the Talkbacks on
- 1:22:00Speaker 3: the SC Morning News podcast up on the iHeartRadio app.
- 1:22:03Speaker 3: Have a great day. Can't wait to see what Trump
- 1:22:06Speaker 3: says tonight in Pendleton.
