NASCAR is big time oval racing with a long history and big appeal to a lot of automotive enthusiasts across the country. With TV showing the big races at the big race tracks, not a lot of people are exposed to where all this came from. There are actually smaller oval asphalt tracks across the country where racers enjoy the same type of sport at different levels, with some actually working their way up to the big time. There are even dirt tracks still operating that make it possible for almost anyone to try their hand at racing.
