- 0:00Speaker 1: God, I love this station.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Program loaded and ready.
- 0:05Speaker 3: Hi, I'm Pete Cunningham from Lancashire's Lighthouse Radio Ministries, and
- 0:10Speaker 3: you're listening to the Ron Edwards American Experience.
- 0:14Speaker 4: On with the show, this is it.
- 0:20Speaker 5: Prepare for launch in three, two, one.
- 0:24Speaker 2: And away we go.
- 0:26Speaker 6: Ladies and gentlemen, it's the Ron Edwards American Experience Talk Show.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Where our unalienable rights are celebrated. And now, your radio refreshment,
- 0:59Speaker 3: Ron Edwards.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Welcome, my friends. This is the Ron Edwards American Experience
- 1:31Speaker 2: Fake Day Edition. I'm Ron Edwards, and yeah, I am
- 1:35Speaker 2: your radio refreshment, and we've got a great show lined
- 1:38Speaker 2: up for you today. We're going to take a different
- 1:40Speaker 2: approach than we normally do. Today's focus is the light
- 1:47Speaker 2: of Jesus extinguishing the darkness of the mob. In 1968,
- 1:55Speaker 2: there was a band formed called.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Rush.
- 2:01Speaker 2: And it's considered one of the many, one of the
- 2:06Speaker 2: greatest bands of all time, in fact. And the band
- 2:09Speaker 2: was known for its highly skilled musicianship and complex and
- 2:13Speaker 2: eclectic compositions, which drew primarily on science fiction, fantasy, and philosophy.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Rush helped to popularize the idea of concept albums and
- 2:25Speaker 2: long-form storytelling in rock music with albums such as 2012,
- 2:30Speaker 2: which came out in 1976, Hemispheres in 1978, and Moving
- 2:37Speaker 2: Pictures in 1981. Geddy Lee, the lead vocalist, bassist, and
- 2:43Speaker 2: keyboardist for Rush, was born Gary Lee Weinrib on July
- 2:49Speaker 2: 29th of 1953 in Toronto, Ontario, to Moshe Mir Wanrai
- 2:56Speaker 2: and Malka Now, both were from Poland. His parents, that is,
- 3:04Speaker 2: were Jewish Holocaust survivors who survived the ghetto in Stachowicz,
- 3:12Speaker 2: where they had met, and the imprisonment at the Auschwitz,
- 3:18Speaker 2: at Dachau, and Bergen also. And they were separated. And
- 3:26Speaker 2: after four years, during the Allied they were reunited and
- 3:33Speaker 2: they were married. And eventually they migrated to Canada. And
- 3:40Speaker 2: so Geddy Lee's family history may have played a role
- 3:46Speaker 2: in the composition of one of Russia's hit songs, Witch Hunt,
- 3:51Speaker 2: which debuted on their Moving Pictures 1981 album and for
- 3:56Speaker 2: many years has often been part of their song lineups
- 4:00Speaker 2: when they go to concert tours all over the world. Now,
- 4:03Speaker 2: the song begins with the sounds of a gathering mob
- 4:07Speaker 2: being whipped up into a furious state by semi-distinct ominous
- 4:14Speaker 2: voices calling on them to seek out the objects of
- 4:19Speaker 2: their anger and to kill them. And so, when you
- 4:22Speaker 2: think about that, it kind of looks like today sometimes,
- 4:25Speaker 2: doesn't it? While Hunt is also reminiscent of the infamous
- 4:29Speaker 2: Salem witch trials that took place between February 1692 and
- 4:34Speaker 2: May of 1693, where a group of young girls in Salem, Massachusetts,
- 4:41Speaker 2: claiming to be attacked by the devil, accused several local
- 4:45Speaker 2: women of witchcraft. A wave of hysterical accusations spread throughout
- 4:50Speaker 2: the town, and many of the charges of witchcraft were
- 4:54Speaker 2: leveled by envious, poorer residents. against more prosperous ones, by
- 5:00Speaker 2: those who were prejudiced against certain families over property lines
- 5:05Speaker 2: and grazing rights, and by those who had disputes with
- 5:09Speaker 2: them and their neighbors over church practices and certain privileges.
- 5:14Speaker 2: By the end of the Salem witch trials, more than
- 5:16Speaker 2: 200 people were accused of witchcraft. Mobs would form at times. And,
- 5:22Speaker 2: you know, to make a long story short, A few
- 5:26Speaker 2: years after the trials, several of the young girls who
- 5:29Speaker 2: initiated the accusations of witchcraft admitted that they had fabricated
- 5:34Speaker 2: the whole thing. Of course, about 19 people were hanged.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Five of them died in a jail that was filled
- 5:43Speaker 2: with disease. One was burned. And it was just a
- 5:47Speaker 2: horrible situation. Now, the Code Witch Hunt provides a grim
- 5:54Speaker 2: warning of how human nature can be twisted by false narratives,
- 5:59Speaker 2: generating fear, envy, and hatred against groups or individuals that
- 6:04Speaker 2: can be left unbattled or unabated and lead to atrocities
- 6:11Speaker 2: such as the Salem Witch Trials or the Holocaust or
- 6:15Speaker 2: even the October 7th attack on Israel. You know, it's, again,
- 6:23Speaker 2: kind of like today's Reminds me of a story that
- 6:26Speaker 2: I talked about earlier this week in which a store
- 6:33Speaker 2: owner in Brooklyn, New York, is still to this very
- 6:38Speaker 2: second being attacked by leftist-leaning individuals who are fans of
- 6:46Speaker 2: Kelly Clarkson. And remember I told you about how she
- 6:49Speaker 2: went into the store and She was going to buy
- 6:52Speaker 2: several items. And then there was one particular item she
- 6:54Speaker 2: wanted to buy. And the store said, this is not
- 6:56Speaker 2: for sale because they would not sell it to her.
- 6:59Speaker 2: She went to Nutsville and said that she was treated
- 7:01Speaker 2: like a nobody. Okay. In other words, they didn't kiss
- 7:05Speaker 2: her backside. So she went out, went on X and
- 7:11Speaker 2: told her followers, which are many, that she was treated cruelly.
- 7:15Speaker 2: And she doxed the store. And the store has been under,
- 7:18Speaker 2: the store owner and the staff have been under death threats.
- 7:22Speaker 2: They've been getting horrible reviews, etc., etc., etc. This is
- 7:26Speaker 2: a story that up to that moment had been very popular,
- 7:30Speaker 2: very well liked in the neighborhood where they are in Brooklyn, etc., etc.
- 7:34Speaker 1: etc.
- 7:36Speaker 2: And this is kind of reminiscent of the kind of
- 7:39Speaker 2: situation that we've had in our society today, where when
- 7:43Speaker 2: people decide someone is guilty when they know they're not,
- 7:48Speaker 2: like the seventh male college students from Cornell. They're being told,
- 7:54Speaker 2: everyone is being told that they are automatically guilty without
- 7:57Speaker 2: any evidence. Prosecutors, a couple of years ago when all
- 8:01Speaker 2: this transpired, they said, well, there's no evidence of them
- 8:07Speaker 2: forcing themselves upon that young lady. But now all of
- 8:12Speaker 2: a sudden, because they've decided, well, we want to get
- 8:14Speaker 2: these guys anyway, no matter what, The protruding face female,
- 8:20Speaker 2: Leticia James, has been sicked upon them. And so she
- 8:24Speaker 2: wants to throw them in jail as a prosecutor. Now,
- 8:27Speaker 2: how can she oversee a trial, by the way, when
- 8:34Speaker 2: she's already said they're guilty? But it's a mob mentality.
- 8:38Speaker 2: A couple of them, they've been thrown out of school.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Their names are out all over the place. But of course,
- 8:44Speaker 2: the female that accused them now Before she didn't say
- 8:50Speaker 2: that they raped her. She said, oh, it was all,
- 8:54Speaker 2: you know, consent. She did everything she wanted to do
- 8:57Speaker 2: and they wanted to do, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Turns out she wasn't intoxicated when she said she was.
- 9:05Speaker 2: But yet they want to leave her name in secret.
- 9:10Speaker 2: And this is the kind of leftist activity that is,
- 9:13Speaker 2: you know, prevalent today. And I can see how this
- 9:16Speaker 2: can be used against the church on a larger scale
- 9:19Speaker 2: if the church doesn't hurry up and wake up. Anyway,
- 9:23Speaker 2: we've got a very exciting rest of the show for
- 9:27Speaker 2: you today. We've got a very great guest. He's going
- 9:29Speaker 2: to be showing up on the other side of the break.
- 9:32Speaker 2: We shall introduce him then. I'm Ron Edwards, and this

- 13:16Speaker 2: it down with her hands.
- 13:25Speaker 1: This is Pastor Emil Grettersen of Open Arms Ministries, and
- 13:28Speaker 1: you are listening to the Ron Edwards American Experience.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Jesus, come quickly.
- 13:59Speaker 9: I need you.
- 14:00Speaker 4: For my surprise.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Welcome back, my friends. And you are listening to the
- 14:06Speaker 2: Landover-Termegren Experience on your radio refreshment. You know, woe to
- 14:10Speaker 2: those who call evil good and good evil. Who substitute
- 14:15Speaker 2: darkness for light and light for darkness. Who substitute bitter
- 14:19Speaker 2: for sweet and sweet for bitter. From the book of Isaiah,
- 14:23Speaker 2: chapter 5, verse 20. Our society is on a path
- 14:27Speaker 2: of destruction when it reaches the point of where those
- 14:31Speaker 2: who perpetrate or condone evil acts, and they in fact
- 14:38Speaker 2: turn around and defend them, justify them, reward them. And
- 14:44Speaker 2: evildoers are not held accountable and being responsible or responsible
- 14:49Speaker 2: for their wickedness. And those who standing up for what
- 14:53Speaker 2: is good and righteousness are vilified, harassed, and threatened with destruction. Yep,
- 15:00Speaker 2: that's America and the world. Not just America, but the world. Well, anyway,
- 15:07Speaker 2: we have a great guest today, and we welcome him.
- 15:11Speaker 2: His name is, as we bring it up here, he's
- 15:15Speaker 2: Minister of Open Arms Ministries, and we welcome him. His
- 15:21Speaker 2: name is, boy, did I lose his name off the screen?
- 15:24Speaker 2: You've got to be kidding me. Here we go. This
- 15:30Speaker 2: is most embarrassing. Anyway, let's welcome our guest today with
- 15:34Speaker 2: Open Arms Ministries. Hello, sir, and welcome to the Ron
- 15:37Speaker 2: Edwards American Experience.
- 15:41Speaker 3: How are you doing, Ron? Emil Gretterson here.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Yes, thank you so much. We know you've been pretty busy.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Anyway.
- 15:51Speaker 2: We do thank you for taking time out of your
- 15:53Speaker 2: busy schedule to be with us today. And I don't
- 15:57Speaker 2: know if you heard my monologue, but the main focus
- 16:02Speaker 2: is that it amazes me how today there seems to
- 16:06Speaker 2: be a mob mentality, not only in the political realm
- 16:10Speaker 2: and even sometimes in the church realm, where those who
- 16:14Speaker 2: should be uplifted for doing what is right, for standing
- 16:18Speaker 2: up for what is right, And people that are doing
- 16:20Speaker 2: the right thing seem to be most under attack today.
- 16:24Speaker 2: And it's in the political realm, the church realm, and
- 16:27Speaker 2: just about anywhere you go today. To the point where,
- 16:34Speaker 2: for example, what happened on that fateful October 7th day
- 16:38Speaker 2: when Israel was attacked. And the people just went to
- 16:41Speaker 2: Nutsville and they've turned it around. And 90% of the
- 16:45Speaker 2: people are blaming Israel for that attack and acting as
- 16:48Speaker 2: if Israel has been the perpetrator of all the evil
- 16:51Speaker 2: since day one. What say you?
- 16:53Speaker 1: Well, I think you're hitting on something that's really at
- 16:58Speaker 1: the heart of most of our current turmoil in American
- 17:02Speaker 1: culture and around the world.
- 17:05Speaker 3: We are just.
- 17:09Speaker 1: I think we underestimate just how often we should expect
- 17:14Speaker 1: to be punished for doing the right thing.
- 17:17Speaker 3: I think, I don't know what it is, I know.
- 17:19Speaker 1: I struggle with this, like, oh, if I do the
- 17:21Speaker 1: right thing, I'll be rewarded for it. And certainly there's
- 17:25Speaker 1: biblical passages that talk about that, but there's also plenty
- 17:29Speaker 1: of biblical evidence that says when you do the right thing,
- 17:33Speaker 1: no good deed goes unpunished. I mean, you've got Jeremiah saying,
- 17:36Speaker 1: lamenting this, doing the right thing and being attacked mercilessly
- 17:42Speaker 1: by his own people. And then, of course, we see
- 17:47Speaker 1: this culminating Jesus, who is really the only person in
- 17:53Speaker 1: history that has ever done everything right.
- 17:58Speaker 3: And what did it get him?
- 18:00Speaker 1: It got him abandonment and betrayal and so much worse.
- 18:07Speaker 1: He suffered on the cross, bearing the weight of the
- 18:09Speaker 1: world's sins. He was laid in a tomb, you know,
- 18:13Speaker 1: just mocked. And I think we forget that part and
- 18:18Speaker 1: we want to jump to the resurrection, right? So Jesus is,
- 18:22Speaker 1: in fact, rewarded for his good behavior, but it's in
- 18:26Speaker 1: God's time and it's in God's way and it's not
- 18:29Speaker 1: apart from the cross. And so I think we need
- 18:34Speaker 1: to I think that's ultimately what keeps people from doing good,
- 18:40Speaker 1: is we don't really want to do good if it
- 18:44Speaker 1: means we're going to have to suffer for it. We
- 18:46Speaker 1: want to do good if it gets us something in
- 18:50Speaker 1: the present. And this is the reason why we need Jesus.
- 18:53Speaker 3: This is why Jesus went after.
- 18:56Speaker 1: The self-righteous, the Pharisees, the religious leaders, the people that
- 19:00Speaker 1: put him on the cross, because they were fine doing
- 19:04Speaker 1: good as long as it got them something, but when
- 19:07Speaker 1: it came down to it, when everything was on the line,
- 19:11Speaker 1: they would much rather look good than be good. And
- 19:16Speaker 1: so our battle is really, it's not against flesh and blood.
- 19:21Speaker 3: As the Bible tells us, right? It's a spiritual battle.
- 19:24Speaker 1: It's the lies of Satan that what we have in
- 19:28Speaker 1: this life is far more important than the right thing.
- 19:32Speaker 1: What we have in this life and protecting our life
- 19:35Speaker 1: and protecting the blessings we have is far more important
- 19:38Speaker 1: than standing up for truth. But we're neglecting what Jesus
- 19:44Speaker 1: himself has.
- 19:45Speaker 3: Told us, right?
- 19:46Speaker 1: You shall know the truth and the truth. shall set
- 19:51Speaker 1: you free. Not keeping everything you have, not avoiding painful,
- 19:55Speaker 1: difficult circumstances as a result of following Jesus. No, the
- 20:00Speaker 1: truth will set you free. So there are a lot
- 20:06Speaker 1: of things I was thinking as you were going through
- 20:08Speaker 1: your monologues. One story that came to mind was the story.
- 20:13Speaker 3: Of John Adams.
- 20:14Speaker 1: I don't know how familiar you are with John Adams,
- 20:16Speaker 1: our U.S.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Second president.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, very.
- 20:19Speaker 3: The Boston Massacre. Okay, good, good.
- 20:22Speaker 1: So maybe this will be right up your alley. John
- 20:24Speaker 1: Adams in 1770, there was a Boston Massacre. And one
- 20:30Speaker 1: of the things I found fascinating about this, there was
- 20:33Speaker 1: an HBO miniseries about the life of John Adams probably
- 20:36Speaker 1: about 20, 25 years ago. I think you can still
- 20:39Speaker 1: find it out there. But one of the things that
- 20:42Speaker 1: just really impressed me about John Adams and what I
- 20:45Speaker 1: think is really the secret to what made America successful,
- 20:51Speaker 1: but also what is lacking in the moment. And it
- 20:56Speaker 1: goes right to what you're talking about. OK, John Adams,
- 20:58Speaker 1: this Boston massacre, colonists and redcoats getting into this scuffle,
- 21:04Speaker 1: a bunch of colonists dying, getting shot at by these.
- 21:07Speaker 1: this mob around them, right? And no one wanted to
- 21:12Speaker 1: defend them. No one. No one wanted to take the
- 21:17Speaker 1: case to give them a fair trial. And finally, John
- 21:23Speaker 1: Adams stepped up, and he was willing to do it,
- 21:26Speaker 1: even though he did not really want to help that team, right?
- 21:31Speaker 1: He didn't want to help the Redcoats. He didn't want
- 21:34Speaker 1: to give them a win. And yet what he couldn't
- 21:38Speaker 1: get past was the truth, the need for the truth.
- 21:42Speaker 1: There's a quote I pulled up. Facts are stubborn things,
- 21:46Speaker 1: and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the
- 21:49Speaker 1: dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of
- 21:53Speaker 1: facts and evidence. That's credited to John Adams in his
- 21:57Speaker 1: closing arguments on December 4, 1770. So I think if
- 21:59Speaker 1: we were... more willing to call out the things that
- 22:10Speaker 1: we may be most reluctant to, rather than the things
- 22:15Speaker 1: we find great joy in pointing out. I think John
- 22:21Speaker 1: Adams gives us this example of being absolutely, just relentlessly
- 22:30Speaker 1: in pursuit of truth wherever it leads us. And sometimes
- 22:37Speaker 1: the thing that we are most unwilling to do is
- 22:42Speaker 1: to point the lens of truth at ourselves. There's a
- 22:48Speaker 1: popular Bible verse that gets thrown around a lot when
- 22:51Speaker 1: people are talking about revival and all this other stuff.
- 22:54Speaker 1: If my people who are called by my name humble
- 22:57Speaker 1: themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from
- 23:00Speaker 1: their wicked ways, Then I will hear from heaven.
- 23:04Speaker 3: I will forgive their sin and heal their land.
- 23:06Speaker 1: That's 2 Chronicles 7.14. And I think, you know, people
- 23:10Speaker 1: read that in a way that I don't think really gets.
- 23:14Speaker 3: At the point of the passage.
- 23:18Speaker 1: The point of the passage is, if my people who
- 23:22Speaker 1: are called by my name humble themselves and pray and
- 23:25Speaker 1: seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then
- 23:29Speaker 1: I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin
- 23:32Speaker 1: and heal their land. I think you kind of were
- 23:35Speaker 1: close to this. I think you may have said something
- 23:37Speaker 1: along those lines about things kind of inside the church.
- 23:41Speaker 5: Yes.
- 23:41Speaker 2: We're going to have to hold it right there. Folks,
- 23:46Speaker 2: our guest today on the Right Over It's American Experience
- 23:49Speaker 2: is Emil Grettersen. And he's with us today. And we'll
- 23:56Speaker 2: be right back on the Ron Edwards American Experience, Faith
- 23:59Speaker 2: Day Edition, after these important messages.
- 24:04Speaker 5: Hello out there.
- 24:05Speaker 13: This is Pastor Junior from Hawaii, from Hearts of Worship, LOC,
- 24:09Speaker 13: Lighthouse Outreach Center.
- 24:11Speaker 1: And you're listening to the Ron Edwards American Experience.
- 24:14Speaker 13: Amen.
- 24:18Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 24:41Speaker 2: The founder of the world-renowned Hilton Hotel chain, Conrad Hilton,
- 24:45Speaker 2: who lived from 1887 till 1979, published a heartfelt prayer
- 24:51Speaker 2: on full-page magazine ads in 1952. Hello, I'm Ron Edwards.
- 24:57Speaker 2: On today's page from the Edwards Notebook, Mr. Hilton's prayer
- 25:01Speaker 2: goes as follows. Quote, Our Father in Heaven, we pray
- 25:04Speaker 2: you save us from ourselves. the world that you made
- 25:07Speaker 2: for us to live in peace, we have made into
- 25:10Speaker 2: an armed camp. We live in fear of war to come.
- 25:13Speaker 2: We are afraid of the terror that flies by night
- 25:16Speaker 2: and the arrow that flies by day, the pestilence that
- 25:19Speaker 2: walks in darkness. and the destruction that wastes at noonday.
- 25:23Speaker 2: We have turned from you to go our selfish way.
- 25:26Speaker 2: We have broken your commandments and denied your truth. We
- 25:29Speaker 2: have left your altars to serve false gods of money, pleasure,
- 25:33Speaker 2: and power. Forgive us and help us. Now darkness gathers
- 25:37Speaker 2: around us and we are confused in all our counsels.
- 25:40Speaker 2: Losing faith in you, we lose faith in ourselves. Be
- 25:44Speaker 2: swift to save us, dear God, before darkness falls. Let
- 25:49Speaker 2: us today seek forgiveness for allowing the leftist darkness now
- 25:53Speaker 2: permeating our entire republic, and may we, the people, quickly
- 25:56Speaker 2: regain the will to defeat the darkness so that America
- 26:00Speaker 2: will be great again. I'm Ron Edwards.

- 28:35Speaker 15: You'll never fail me.
- 28:37Speaker 2: This I know. Yep, this I know. Yeah, this is
- 28:40Speaker 2: the Ron Edwards American Experience. Welcome back, my friends. I'm
- 28:44Speaker 2: Ron Edwards and this is the Faith Day edition. And
- 28:47Speaker 2: our guest today is Emil Grettersen. And he heads up
- 28:52Speaker 2: a wonderful ministry called Open Arms Church. And yeah, we're
- 28:57Speaker 2: going to talk a little bit about that. But we
- 29:00Speaker 2: should never forget that Jesus Christ was perfect. And despite
- 29:07Speaker 2: being perfect, he was wrongly treated. He was persecuted. accused, maligned, despised, beaten, tortured,
- 29:19Speaker 2: and murdered. And we find that today, as in many
- 29:25Speaker 2: ages throughout human history, those who seek to do the
- 29:29Speaker 2: righteous thing have been the most persecuted amongst us, usually.
- 29:36Speaker 2: And yet, at the same time, we are commanded to
- 29:40Speaker 2: go about doing the right thing and to seek to
- 29:42Speaker 2: do justice, to seek to uphold a righteous standard in
- 29:47Speaker 2: our nation, in our republic. And it seems that, and
- 29:53Speaker 2: I want to talk to our guest today about this
- 29:56Speaker 2: thin line that I think that we need to walk.
- 30:00Speaker 2: and learn how to navigate between the fact that, yes,
- 30:03Speaker 2: we are commanded to do such things, but yet at
- 30:06Speaker 2: the same time as frail human beings, we are more tempted,
- 30:11Speaker 2: not all of us, but some of us are tempted
- 30:12Speaker 2: to say, you know what, forget that. I'm going to
- 30:17Speaker 2: avoid all that. I'm not going to make the devil
- 30:20Speaker 2: angry at me and try to live a smooth life.
- 30:24Speaker 2: That's even amongst Christians. But I have a sneaking suspicion
- 30:30Speaker 2: that my guest today doesn't agree with that. What say you, sir?
- 30:36Speaker 3: I don't agree with what specifically?
- 30:39Speaker 1: What are you worried?
- 30:40Speaker 2: Oh, with the fact that there are some within the
- 30:46Speaker 2: Christian realm who say, you know what? We're not going
- 30:49Speaker 2: to anger the devil. We're going to just keep it
- 30:52Speaker 2: real quiet. We're just going to keep a low profile. Yes,
- 30:56Speaker 2: we believe in Jesus, but But we're not going to
- 30:58Speaker 2: get out there and get involved in these issues of
- 31:00Speaker 2: the day. We're not getting involved in all that. We're
- 31:01Speaker 2: just going to keep our little quiet existence and go
- 31:05Speaker 2: about our lives until the end and stay out of
- 31:09Speaker 2: the fray. We're not called to do that as Christians.
- 31:13Speaker 2: What say you?
- 31:14Speaker 1: Well, yeah, I think we are definitely plagued by exactly
- 31:21Speaker 1: what you're talking about. But I think it's even... deeper
- 31:27Speaker 1: than just the big issues. I think it's the, the
- 31:32Speaker 1: day to day issues, the tough things in our own
- 31:36Speaker 1: lives and in our own families that our own household that,
- 31:41Speaker 1: that we don't want to address. And so we end
- 31:44Speaker 1: up with, if when we do step out and we
- 31:49Speaker 1: do start entering into the fray, which I don't think
- 31:52Speaker 1: that we should not, uh, But when we go out
- 31:56Speaker 1: into the fray and we've got all these, you know,
- 32:00Speaker 1: we've got the big giant log in our eye, how
- 32:03Speaker 1: can we see the speck in our neighbor's eye kind
- 32:05Speaker 1: of thing, that doesn't mean you don't ever call out
- 32:09Speaker 1: things that are wrong. The trouble I think the church
- 32:12Speaker 1: is having is that the church, like you said, righteousness
- 32:15Speaker 1: exalts the nation.
- 32:16Speaker 3: I don't know if that was you or.
- 32:18Speaker 1: One of the recordings in between during the break here,
- 32:21Speaker 1: but I think that is what we're lacking. We're not
- 32:26Speaker 1: holding ourselves to the same standard that we need to.
- 32:30Speaker 1: We're much more interested in calling out the things that
- 32:36Speaker 1: make us feel good and rally our team. But again,
- 32:40Speaker 1: 2 Chronicles 7.14 says, if my people will, right, if
- 32:48Speaker 1: they will turn from their wicked ways, and there's so
- 32:51Speaker 1: much stuff I've been in a church in some way, shape,
- 32:56Speaker 1: or form close to 20 years now.
- 32:59Speaker 3: And, man, there is just.
- 33:00Speaker 1: So much just inside the church and amongst Christians. And
- 33:06Speaker 1: I think our inability or our unwillingness to address that
- 33:13Speaker 1: is hampering our ability to do the things out in
- 33:18Speaker 1: the world, right? You know, for example, abortion, right? That's
- 33:22Speaker 1: a big thing. I do think God is pro-life. He
- 33:26Speaker 1: is the author of life, and life begins at conception.
- 33:30Speaker 1: I looked at this a few years ago now. I
- 33:33Speaker 1: don't know what the actual statistics are currently, but I
- 33:36Speaker 1: would not be surprised if they are the same. But
- 33:40Speaker 1: something like 70% of abortions were abortions had by Christians.
- 33:47Speaker 3: And to me.
- 33:50Speaker 1: You know, we want to fight this battle, but really
- 33:52Speaker 1: the battle is in our congregation. The battle is there.
- 33:55Speaker 1: That's the first line, right?
- 33:59Speaker 2: Right.
- 34:00Speaker 3: And, you know, why is that? Why are they doing that?
- 34:03Speaker 1: Well, on the one hand, like you're saying, it's not
- 34:07Speaker 1: being talked about. But then on the other hand, it's, oops,
- 34:12Speaker 1: you know, here I am now. I have this unplanned
- 34:15Speaker 1: pregnancy thing. is my congregation going to receive me and
- 34:20Speaker 1: support me? Or are they going to, is it going
- 34:24Speaker 1: to be like the Salem witch trial? I mean, is
- 34:28Speaker 1: it going to turn into that? Am I going to
- 34:29Speaker 1: be chastised and become an outcast or thrown into a
- 34:33Speaker 1: pond to see if I float or something? You know,
- 34:35Speaker 1: like I think that's, there is the same thing that
- 34:41Speaker 1: you're describing about what's going on out in the culture,
- 34:45Speaker 1: which is terrible. I mean, like, You mentioned the business
- 34:48Speaker 1: in Brooklyn and there's plenty of other situations like this.
- 34:53Speaker 1: That's happening in our churches too. And we have to
- 34:58Speaker 1: address that. We have to deal with that. We have
- 35:01Speaker 1: to truly love one another, our brothers and sisters in Christ.
- 35:06Speaker 1: We have to be willing to hear the truth, the
- 35:09Speaker 1: uncomfortable truth that we don't want to hear so that
- 35:12Speaker 1: we can be set free by the gospel of Jesus
- 35:17Speaker 1: Christ And then actually have something to offer the world.
- 35:25Speaker 1: Because the world, I think, is going to be the world.
- 35:29Speaker 1: The devil is going to use all the people that
- 35:32Speaker 1: he can use that are like, hey, yeah, use me.
- 35:36Speaker 1: I mean, there's plenty of them out there, right? But
- 35:40Speaker 1: if you bring the gospel to someone... They confess faith
- 35:45Speaker 1: in Jesus Christ. They are filled with the Holy Spirit then. Well,
- 35:50Speaker 1: now we've got something to work with. John Adams again, right?
- 35:54Speaker 1: One of the other things he said, you know, this
- 35:56Speaker 1: government is basically only fit for, you probably know, what
- 36:00Speaker 1: is it? A virtuous people.
- 36:03Speaker 3: Correct.
- 36:05Speaker 1: And we are not a virtuous people. The standards from
- 36:10Speaker 1: just 20 years ago, 30 years ago, let alone 100,
- 36:14Speaker 1: 250 years ago, have just really dropped off. And I
- 36:19Speaker 1: think that has a lot to do with us Christians
- 36:22Speaker 1: not practicing our faith, getting complacent, having it easy for
- 36:26Speaker 1: a long time, doing the right thing was rewarded.
- 36:28Speaker 2: Let me ask you this. Let me ask you this
- 36:32Speaker 2: real quick. By the way, folks, our guest today is
- 36:36Speaker 2: Emil Grettersen. and he's with Open Arms Ministries. Before we
- 36:41Speaker 2: get further into the discussion, why don't you tell folks
- 36:44Speaker 2: about your ministry, and what is the focus?
- 36:51Speaker 3: Well, we are a.
- 36:54Speaker 1: Church that branched off into a couple of different ministries.
- 36:58Speaker 1: We've got our church, of course. We've got a child
- 37:02Speaker 1: development center, which is birth to five. So, Parents that
- 37:07Speaker 1: want a good, solid place where kids are going to
- 37:11Speaker 1: hear about Jesus and come to know Jesus. We've got
- 37:17Speaker 1: about 100 kids in there. And then we have what
- 37:20Speaker 1: we call the Open Arms Community Center, which is a
- 37:24Speaker 1: big gym and several classrooms and all kinds of fun
- 37:29Speaker 1: stuff going on there. We have before and after care.
- 37:32Speaker 1: So before school, parents start work a little earlier than
- 37:35Speaker 1: the school is ready for the kids. So we bring
- 37:38Speaker 1: them into school. They drop them off here. We bring
- 37:40Speaker 1: them to school, and then we go pick them up
- 37:42Speaker 1: after school, and they stick around with us until school
- 37:46Speaker 1: is done and parents are done with work. And we've
- 37:50Speaker 1: got camps. So whenever school is out, Thanksgiving camps, Christmas camp,
- 37:56Speaker 1: New Year's camp, Easter camp, all kinds of different camps.
- 37:59Speaker 1: times of the year when school's out, we've got a
- 38:02Speaker 1: place for kids that's kindergarten through eighth grade about. But
- 38:09Speaker 1: that's kind of what we do. But we open up
- 38:12Speaker 1: our facility for a variety of groups as well. We
- 38:15Speaker 1: have the Slidell Ministers Association meets in our building. We
- 38:20Speaker 1: have Narcotics Anonymous has a group that meets in our
- 38:25Speaker 1: building just about every night. We are trying to help
- 38:30Speaker 1: change lives, trying to help people encounter the love of Jesus.
- 38:35Speaker 1: Our mission statement is loving generously. We connect all to Jesus.
- 38:40Speaker 1: That's our goal, at least. Sometimes you do it better
- 38:43Speaker 1: than others. But really, it's been a great place, a
- 38:47Speaker 1: very welcoming place. And certainly we have our challenges, but
- 38:52Speaker 1: it's been good to be here. I've been here almost
- 38:55Speaker 1: seven years here.
- 38:57Speaker 2: Excellent. Well, we're going to have to hold it right there. Folks,
- 39:00Speaker 2: you're listening to the Roundover It's American Experience, Faith Day
- 39:03Speaker 2: Edition with our guest today, Emil Gretterson. And we'll be
- 39:06Speaker 2: right back after these important messages.
- 39:18Speaker 1: Greetings from the pastoral splendors of the Northwest Arkansas Ozarks.
- 39:23Speaker 1: I'm Lois Christie and you're listening to the Ron Edwards
- 39:26Speaker 1: American Experience.
- 39:29Speaker 16: I know that God is in the midst of his city.
- 39:40Speaker 16: And with God, no one can fresh do to me.
- 39:46Speaker 4: Oh, It is God in whom I trust. It is
- 39:53Speaker 4: God whose word I praise.
- 40:12Speaker 11: Is your portfolio up over 1,000% since the year 2000?
- 40:17Speaker 11: Let me ask you that again because it sounds a
- 40:19Speaker 11: little shocking. Is your investment portfolio up 1,000% in the
- 40:23Speaker 11: last 25 years? If you would have bought $ 10, 000 in
- 40:27Speaker 11: physical gold in the year 2000 and left it in
- 40:30Speaker 11: your retirement account, today that same $ 10, 000 would be worth $ 125, 000.
- 40:33Speaker 2: Gold is more stable.
- 40:40Speaker 11: Than stocks and bonds. It's never been worth zero. It

- 42:37Speaker 2: discretion is not easily angered. He gains respect by overlooking
- 42:42Speaker 2: an offense. It doesn't matter if it's North America. Latin America,
- 42:50Speaker 2: or South America, it's the Ron Edwards American Experience emanating
- 42:55Speaker 2: from the United States of America and throughout the world. Yep,
- 43:13Speaker 2: folks are tuning in from throughout the world, listening to
- 43:16Speaker 2: the Ron Edwards American Experience Friday edition. folks in Russia,
- 43:20Speaker 2: South Korea, Japan, even China, believe it or not. China,
- 43:27Speaker 2: of all places. It's funny, though, that no more listeners
- 43:32Speaker 2: in Canada ever since the little dust-up between President Trump
- 43:36Speaker 2: and Carney, the carnival barker of Canada. Our Canadian friends
- 43:43Speaker 2: have said, bye now, but that's okay. We've got the
- 43:46Speaker 2: rest of the planet and things are continuing to grow.
- 43:48Speaker 2: And one of the reasons why our show grows is
- 43:51Speaker 2: because of great guests like today, Emil Grettersen, and he's
- 43:57Speaker 2: with the Open Arms Ministry. And Emil, I would like
- 44:01Speaker 2: to share with you the fact that because Jesus Christ
- 44:05Speaker 2: did rise from the dead after the third day, after
- 44:10Speaker 2: his crucifixion, his righteousness was The righteous, you know, the
- 44:14Speaker 2: righteous need to stand before God in peace is credited
- 44:20Speaker 2: to anyone who presents, you know, repents of their sins
- 44:24Speaker 2: and believes in him. For he was delivered up for
- 44:28Speaker 2: our trespasses and raised for our justification. Romans 4 verse 25. Now, Pastor,
- 44:37Speaker 2: it seems that today that is not taught in our churches. Now,
- 44:41Speaker 2: I know that my experience is only anecdotal, but all
- 44:45Speaker 2: with the exception of maybe two churches, and those were
- 44:49Speaker 2: in my childhood. Not one church that I have visited
- 44:56Speaker 2: in more recent years teaches the Ten Commandments. And that
- 45:00Speaker 2: basic element is left out of church teaching, and then
- 45:04Speaker 2: we wonder why there's no standards, just the same way
- 45:07Speaker 2: as the first Ten Amendments were. are no longer taught
- 45:11Speaker 2: in our government schools. And so those two elements, which,
- 45:15Speaker 2: by the way, are elementally tied together by the founding
- 45:21Speaker 2: fathers when they wrote them. They were inspired by the
- 45:24Speaker 2: Ten Commandments when they wrote our first Ten Amendments. So
- 45:28Speaker 2: without those standards being a regular part of the message,
- 45:33Speaker 2: the gospel message that's preached every Sunday, is it any
- 45:37Speaker 2: wonder then that that people are not strong in those,
- 45:41Speaker 2: you know, standing up for what's right and seeking to
- 45:43Speaker 2: do what's right. And in many cases being afraid to
- 45:47Speaker 2: stand up for what's right because of what might happen.
- 45:49Speaker 2: What say you?
- 45:52Speaker 1: Oh, absolutely. I think we have softened the, the impact
- 46:00Speaker 1: of God's word to, you know, because it, It's weird.
- 46:05Speaker 1: I've wrestled with this a lot as a pastor because
- 46:07Speaker 1: I know it's at work, but I have this unfortunate
- 46:13Speaker 1: character trait that forces me to say what's true, even
- 46:17Speaker 1: if it is not in my best interest. But when
- 46:20Speaker 1: you're a pastor and your salary is tied to basically
- 46:26Speaker 1: whether the people that gather there continue to gather there
- 46:28Speaker 1: and give, it puts you in this awkward spot. And
- 46:33Speaker 1: I have seen time and time again where guys, they
- 46:39Speaker 1: just don't give the full weight of God's word, the
- 46:43Speaker 1: full weight of the law. And I know I've been
- 46:45Speaker 1: tempted also to do it in a way that isn't
- 46:50Speaker 1: what God actually says. But if we actually take the
- 46:54Speaker 1: Bible seriously, there is no one There is, you know,
- 46:59Speaker 1: you mentioned Romans 4. Romans 3 says, no one is righteous.
- 47:04Speaker 3: No, not one.
- 47:05Speaker 1: And he's quoting the Old Testament there. And then you
- 47:08Speaker 1: get Romans 3.23, for all have sinned and fall short
- 47:13Speaker 1: of the.
- 47:13Speaker 3: Glory of God.
- 47:14Speaker 1: And then 1 John 1, it says, if we say
- 47:17Speaker 1: we are without sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth
- 47:22Speaker 1: is not in us. But that word is not if, like, well,
- 47:25Speaker 1: maybe one time I may sin. It No, whenever we
- 47:30Speaker 1: say we are without sin, we deceive ourselves.
- 47:34Speaker 3: And the truth is not in us.
- 47:35Speaker 1: And so the law has a function for us as Christians,
- 47:41Speaker 1: and we dare not soften it. I am actually, you
- 47:46Speaker 1: wouldn't know this from the name of our church, but
- 47:50Speaker 1: I was trained at a Lutheran seminary, and our church
- 47:53Speaker 1: is affiliated with the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, And I
- 47:57Speaker 1: just want to point out one thing. I listened to
- 47:59Speaker 1: one of your programs, and you were knocking the Lutherans
- 48:01Speaker 1: for not believing in the divinity of Jesus. And I
- 48:04Speaker 1: just want to say, I'm a Lutheran, and I know
- 48:06Speaker 1: about a million at least that believe in the divinity
- 48:08Speaker 1: of Jesus. So, you know, go Lutherans. But one of
- 48:12Speaker 1: the things that Luther.
- 48:14Speaker 2: Can I jump in here real quick? The Lutherans I'm
- 48:17Speaker 2: talking about are very liberal.
- 48:20Speaker 1: I know who you're talking about.
- 48:23Speaker 2: I've been to their church. I've seen them in action.
- 48:26Speaker 2: I've read about them and they're very liberal and they
- 48:28Speaker 2: call themselves Lutherans and they're there.
- 48:31Speaker 1: I know. I just wanted to point out that we're
- 48:35Speaker 1: not all off.
- 48:36Speaker 3: The deep end.
- 48:37Speaker 1: We do believe that Jesus was divine and that he
- 48:41Speaker 1: rose again, literally rose from the dead. It's not just
- 48:46Speaker 1: a memorial or a symbolic or a metaphorical thing. He
- 48:51Speaker 1: is alive currently in a glorified body and he's coming again. So,
- 48:56Speaker 1: Just want to throw that in there.
- 48:58Speaker 2: Okay.
- 48:59Speaker 3: Appreciate that.
- 49:00Speaker 1: Hey, yeah, great. One of the other things that Lutherans bring, though,
- 49:05Speaker 1: that Lutheran teaching is the law has these three functions
- 49:10Speaker 1: as a curb, a mirror, and a guide. And the
- 49:15Speaker 1: curb is basically, hey, people are pretty terrible. and if
- 49:20Speaker 1: we don't have some laws, the whole world is going
- 49:23Speaker 1: to descend into chaos, right? Order is better than anarchy,
- 49:26Speaker 1: just generally, right? And so that's one purpose of the law,
- 49:31Speaker 1: that if you're fearful that you'll be punished if you
- 49:34Speaker 1: break any of these laws, then you're less likely to
- 49:38Speaker 1: do it. It doesn't mean you won't. It doesn't mean
- 49:40Speaker 1: you won't break it for the right reason either, but
- 49:43Speaker 1: at least you won't and it protects people. The second
- 49:46Speaker 1: one is the mirror, and that just is used to
- 49:50Speaker 1: show us that we are who Paul is talking about
- 49:53Speaker 1: in Romans 3. We are not righteous in and of ourselves. None,
- 49:59Speaker 1: you know, all sin and fall short of the glory
- 50:01Speaker 1: of God, right? So that shows us our need and
- 50:05Speaker 1: pushes us To Jesus, where we hear the good news that, hey, yeah,
- 50:10Speaker 1: you're a sinner. Jesus died for you, and now he
- 50:13Speaker 1: calls you to follow him. And that's where the guide
- 50:16Speaker 1: part comes in. And I think a lot of churches
- 50:20Speaker 1: struggle with that part where, okay, well, you're forgiven in Jesus.
- 50:25Speaker 1: And they just kind of leave it there like, okay,
- 50:27Speaker 1: so I'm forgiven, so I don't really have to try anything.
- 50:31Speaker 1: But follow Jesus. I don't have to actually do what
- 50:34Speaker 1: he says to do. And no one's going to do
- 50:37Speaker 1: it perfectly. But it should be like, you know, when
- 50:41Speaker 1: you turn 25 and you go, oh, my gosh, you know,
- 50:46Speaker 1: all the adults in my life, my parents, my grandparents,
- 50:50Speaker 1: they were all right.
- 50:52Speaker 2: You know, we're going to have to hold it right here.
- 50:56Speaker 2: Our guest today is Emil Grettersen. And Pastor Gretterson, we
- 51:02Speaker 2: have a tradition here on the Fifth Day Edition of
- 51:05Speaker 2: the Rhyme of Rich American Experience, and we ask our
- 51:07Speaker 2: guests to offer a prayer. We have about, what is it,
- 51:12Speaker 2: two minutes, Doug? If you would be so inclined to
- 51:16Speaker 2: offer a prayer for our nation, or as God leads you,
- 51:20Speaker 2: if you're willing to do that.
- 51:25Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 51:26Speaker 3: Let's pray.
- 51:28Speaker 1: Heavenly Father, we thank you so much for just your
- 51:32Speaker 1: incredible blessings. We thank you for the gift of your son, Jesus,
- 51:36Speaker 1: who shows us your incredible love for us, even though
- 51:40Speaker 1: we were sinners. While we were still sinners, you demonstrated
- 51:44Speaker 1: your love for us in this, that Christ died for us,
- 51:48Speaker 1: the ungodly. And in so doing, transformed us into something new,
- 51:54Speaker 1: a new creation, Lord. And We just ask that you
- 51:57Speaker 1: would be with each and every one of us, that
- 51:59Speaker 1: you would be with our leaders in America, in each
- 52:03Speaker 1: of the 50 states and around the world, Lord, that
- 52:07Speaker 1: you would be with all leaders, that you would work
- 52:09Speaker 1: mightily in and through them for truth and for all
- 52:14Speaker 1: the blessings that you want to bestow on us, that
- 52:17Speaker 1: you would work to bring things together to be in
- 52:21Speaker 1: accord with your will, that we might be blessed living
- 52:26Speaker 1: in accord with your will, that the people in darkness
- 52:30Speaker 1: might be led to the light that comes in and
- 52:32Speaker 1: through the light of the world, your Son, our Savior,
- 52:35Speaker 1: Jesus Christ, and that you might be glorified.
- 52:38Speaker 3: In all that we do.
- 52:41Speaker 1: And that all would rejoice in the wonderful blessings that
- 52:44Speaker 1: you have in store, not just in this life, but
- 52:46Speaker 1: in the life to come, where all of these terrible
- 52:50Speaker 1: things that we have to talk about and discuss and address,
- 52:54Speaker 1: that one day all of those struggles will be gone,
- 52:58Speaker 1: the weight will be lifted, and we will rejoice in
- 53:02Speaker 1: your presence forever. Give us a foretaste of that, Lord, today.
- 53:08Speaker 3: And every day, use us, lead us, guide us for.
- 53:12Speaker 1: Your purposes and your glory. In the mighty name of
- 53:17Speaker 1: our risen Lord Jesus Christ, we pray.
- 53:19Speaker 2: Amen. Amen. Thank you so much. And we do thank
- 53:24Speaker 2: you for joining us today. Our guest, special guest today,
- 53:27Speaker 2: Emil Grettersen. And I pray that I pronounce your name correctly,
- 53:31Speaker 2: that I didn't beat it up too badly.
- 53:33Speaker 11: But.
- 53:34Speaker 2: We do thank you again for being with us, and
- 53:36Speaker 2: we do invite you to come back because you have
- 53:39Speaker 2: a lot of wisdom, and I can tell. And so
- 53:42Speaker 2: it's been a great time as far as I'm concerned,
- 53:45Speaker 2: and I know my audience really appreciates your wisdom. And again,
- 53:50Speaker 2: now that I see that my time is up, folks,
- 53:52Speaker 2: I thank you for joining us here on today's edition
- 53:56Speaker 2: of the Ron Edwards American Experience. That's all, folks.
- 54:01Speaker 9: Tags that stage right.
- 54:05Speaker 2: And as I always say at this time, thanking you
- 54:08Speaker 2: again now that I see that my time is up.
- 54:10Speaker 2: Thank you so much for your time. And I urge
- 54:12Speaker 2: you all to please pray for your nation, pray for
- 54:15Speaker 2: your family, your friends, and even your enemies that they
- 54:17Speaker 2: get it right before it's too late. Yep, because we
- 54:20Speaker 2: all face judgment eventually. Don't forget to treat others the
- 54:24Speaker 2: same way you want to be treated. Until next time,
- 54:27Speaker 2: I'm Ron Edwards. Be blessed. And this is the Ron
- 54:32Speaker 2: Edwards American Experience. Thanks, Doug, for all you do as well.
- 54:39Speaker 16: There's just one problem with Swan Quarter, North Carolina.
- 55:08Speaker 10: It was a lowland town. Naturally, the choicest real estate
- 55:12Speaker 10: was on the highest ground. In the event of heavy rain,
- 55:15Speaker 10: the closer you were to sea level, the harder you
- 55:18Speaker 10: got hit. A little more than 100 years ago, the
- 55:20Speaker 10: Methodists of Swan Quarter had no church. The only lot
- 55:24Speaker 10: available on which to build one was a plot of
- 55:26Speaker 10: low-lying property on Oyster Creek Road. It was far from
- 55:31Speaker 10: an ideal location.
- 55:33Speaker 1: But they.
- 55:34Speaker 10: had acquired the land and construction began. The church was
- 55:39Speaker 10: to be white frame, small but sturdy, propped up on
- 55:42Speaker 10: brick pilings. In 1876, the building was completed, and on Sunday,
- 55:49Speaker 10: September 16, a joyous dedication ceremony was celebrated. Now, that
- 55:56Speaker 10: was Sunday, September 16. Three days later, this was on
- 56:01Speaker 10: a Wednesday, A terrible storm lashed Swan Quarter. All day
- 56:07Speaker 10: the wind howled and the rain came down, and it
- 56:10Speaker 10: was a gray wall of water. By nightfall, devastation. Much
- 56:17Speaker 10: of the town was flooded. Many roofs were ripped from
- 56:20Speaker 10: homes by cyclonic turbulence. The storm raged on all through
- 56:23Speaker 10: the night and into the bleak morning. By Thursday afternoon,
- 56:27Speaker 10: the wind subsided. The rain had all but stopped. For
- 56:30Speaker 10: the first time, In more than a day, there was
- 56:33Speaker 10: an almost eerie calm, and one by one the citizens
- 56:36Speaker 10: of Swan Quarter threw back the shutters and peered out
- 56:41Speaker 10: from what was left of their homes, and most saw
- 56:45Speaker 10: only a desolate waterscape, a community ravaged by nature, but
- 56:49Speaker 10: those within sight of Oyster Creek Road beheld the most
- 56:53Speaker 10: incredible sight that they had ever seen, the church, the
- 56:57Speaker 10: Swan Quarter Methodist Church. The whole building, intact, was floating
- 57:03Speaker 10: down the street. I mean, the floodwaters had gently lifted
- 57:07Speaker 10: the entire structure from its brick pilings on which it
- 57:10Speaker 10: had rested and had sent it off slowly, silently, down
- 57:15Speaker 10: Oyster Creek Road. Well, within minutes, several concerned townspeople were
- 57:23Speaker 10: sloshing about in the street, waist-deep, fighting the rushing current,
- 57:27Speaker 10: trying desperately to reach the still moving church so that
- 57:31Speaker 10: they could more it with lengths of rope. And the
- 57:34Speaker 10: ropes were fastened, but the effort was in vain. There
- 57:38Speaker 10: was no stable structure secure enough to restrain the floating chapel.
- 57:44Speaker 10: And as the building passed by, more attention was attracted,
- 57:48Speaker 10: so more aid was enlisted, but again, to no avail,
- 57:52Speaker 10: the church moved on. By now, The building had made
- 57:56Speaker 10: it to the center of town. It's still on Oyster
- 57:58Speaker 10: Creek Road. Then as dozens of amazed and helpless people watched,
- 58:06Speaker 10: the Swan Quarter Methodist Church, it's still floating, made a sharp,
- 58:11Speaker 10: inexplicable right turn, continued down that road as though the
- 58:16Speaker 10: chapel were alive, as though it had a mind of
- 58:18Speaker 10: its own. For two more blocks, the townspeople fought the
- 58:22Speaker 10: ropes to hold it back, but unsuccessfully, and then in
- 58:26Speaker 10: the same decisive manner with which it had moved in
- 58:28Speaker 10: the first place, the church veered off the road and
- 58:31Speaker 10: headed for the center of a vacant lot, and there
- 58:36Speaker 10: it stopped. While the floodwaters receded, the church remained, and
- 58:43Speaker 10: it is there to this day. Well, over a hundred
- 58:49Speaker 10: Septembers have passed since the little white-framed Methodist church removed
- 58:53Speaker 10: itself to the most desirable property in Swan Quarter. And
- 59:00Speaker 10: in the process of making up your own mind as
- 59:03Speaker 10: to why and how what happened happened, you need to
- 59:07Speaker 10: know this much more. The choice highland lot where the
- 59:12Speaker 10: chapel finally settled, that had been the first choice of
- 59:15Speaker 10: the town Methodists. They had wanted that as the site
- 59:18Speaker 10: for their church. But the shrewd, prosperous landowner whose property
- 59:25Speaker 10: it was.
- 59:27Speaker 2: Had turned them down. And yet the next morning.
- 59:31Speaker 10: After the flood, after discovering the church in the middle
- 59:35Speaker 10: of his lot, that same landowner went to the Methodist
- 59:38Speaker 10: minister and with trembling hands presented him with the deed.
- 59:44Speaker 2: And now you know the rest of the story.
