Latest / Podcast - Big 98.7 / Busting Love Myths
Transcript
- 0:00I have a few myths I want to bust like that MythBuster show when it
- 0:04comes to love. Okay, for example, and I know you're one,
- 0:07you've always talked about love languages marriage. That was like our pre marriage counseling
- 0:12was words of affirmation. It's like, okay, well this love expert has
- 0:16thrown that out the windows, saying basically the love language, saying while everybody
- 0:20thinks they identify with like one or two of the love languages, yeah,
- 0:23because you get an actual score and you do research shows though that we like
- 0:26them all. You know what I mean? Words of affirmation, yeah,
- 0:29sure, great, quality time, I guess, so, receiving gifts,
- 0:33love gifts, acts of service heck yet? And then don't even get me
- 0:37started on physical touch. You know, so do we really all have one
- 0:42love language or we just those all the lean into other things? So I
- 0:46can see how it works for some marriages or relationships. Which one was your
- 0:50least favorite physical touch? For sure? Okay? Okay, perfect. Another
- 0:56love myth I like to debunk happy wife, happy life, not no mo.
- 1:02Well, they say that the phrase we should be focusing on is happy
- 1:06spouse, happy house. Oh my gosh, I love that yes, I
- 1:10mean in twenty twenty four, where we're focused on equality. I think that's
- 1:12great because what a silly, outdated thing to say happy wife, happy life,
- 1:17Like, who cares how happy you are? You piece of garbage?
- 1:19Did you ever go as long as your wife's happy? It's great to a
- 1:23wedding where they have you feel out like, hey, some advice for the
- 1:26couple. Almost ninety percent of them are happy wife, happy life. Remember
- 1:30that nick owenky face. Yeah, I got you one more myth if you
- 1:34don't mind. Yeah, come on, foster. Unplanned intimacy is better.
- 1:41It's always better and more fun to be spontaneous. This love expert says,
- 1:45no, while it might sound more exciting, the research they've done is that
- 1:49basically, whether it was totally spontaneous or you had it scheduled on your calendar
- 1:53for six months, generally it ends up going about the same. Pretty exciting,
- 1:57I mean honestly, right you think about it, yes, yeah,
- 2:00like it's fun to like out of nowhere, Oh I didn't see this coming.
- 2:02Here we go, right, But then when it's all said and done,
- 2:06it's like, well that was much like the last time and the time
- 2:07before that, so oh no, oh stop it. You know what I
- 2:10mean. I'm saying, if you scheduled it, you're still gonna enjoy it.
- 2:14You know, you don't schedule you know, move by move like blow
- 2:17by blow. You don't have a plan of attack by any means. I'm
- 2:22just I'm saying, you don't even have a guy. A man is trying.
- 2:25It's like the old TV guy you used to get in the mail and
- 2:28you get super excited about it and be like, Okay at five pm,
- 2:31this is what's going on. All right, here's what I'm thinking. I'll
- 2:38do this. You ever just start laughing? Though? Sometimes did you ever
- 2:42get into a place and it's like do you just call it off? You're
- 2:44like, okay, this isn't Workay, listen, I've never called it off.
- 2:47We're going to see it through. But I'll be giggling the whole way
- 2:52like an in the morning, Big nutty eight point seven. I was a
- 2:54little offended the other day. A man and I were talking and I mentioned
- 2:57how my wife Lauren and I we share We are each other's locations on our
- 3:01phones, which is an option so that way I can look at my phone
- 3:05right now and it will show me a map and exactly where my wife currently
- 3:09is and vice versa, and you were just disgusted. I wasn't disgusted.
- 3:15I was just like, oh, wow, I we don't share our locations.
- 3:17I was just thought, you know, when we have kids, of
- 3:20course, I'm going to want to know where their location is at some point
- 3:23when we cross that phone bridge, which I hope that's a long way's way.
- 3:27But and I'm not trying to hide anything. It's just weird. But
- 3:30even now in your marriage, you don't think it would be not only not
- 3:32weird, but like beneficial to know your husband's locations at all time. He
- 3:38literally yesterday eta question Mark, he said, four thirty seven, I'll be
- 3:42rolling back in from wherever he was traveling to for work. I don't got
- 3:46to send that text because I know, obviously it could be something you're doing
- 3:49because you're insecure and you're suspicious. But if it's not the case, then
- 3:53it's just great. It's glorious. Not only do I share my location with
- 3:55my wife, but like my band, we all have each other's locations.
- 3:59Okay, stop it. Like my wife has my sister's location, so it's
- 4:01never a matter of oh, are they on their way? Are they coming
- 4:04is isn't there really see? I like this interpersonal communication where I can like
- 4:08call and you know, hey, how's the road tripped on? Yeah?
- 4:12You know that kind of thing. I'm a little suspicious why you won't share
- 4:15your location? That's where I'm at. But we were talking to somebody,
- 4:18And the reason this got brought up is because somebody we know who's like just
- 4:21dating somebody after what two dates? I think it was one date they were
- 4:27still talking and had done the like, hey location share and thought it was
- 4:30being cute. Nikes. No, I mean if somebody's asking that after one
- 4:34or two or three or even ten dates and then also no kind of like
- 4:39gaslighting this person to a why do you think this is so weird? Like
- 4:42why wouldn't you want to know where I'm at? But I just met you
- 4:45five seconds ago. This is why I feel like it's a little uh what's
- 4:48seven oh one two eight zho one ninety eight seven? What do you think?
- 4:50Good morning? Who's this? My name's Jessica. What's up, Jessica?
- 4:55Yeah, I think it's a good idea. Honestly, personally, are
- 4:57you in a relationship? No, at the moment, I'm not. I
- 5:00do have it on my child though, But even in a relationship, I
- 5:02think like for safety measures, like if something happened to say they were on
- 5:08a road trip, they amana, Susan wasn't a road trip and like he
- 5:11wasn't communicating, he wasn't responding, Boom, you got his location, Like
- 5:15something happened. Totally it's brilliant. But now I will say it from my
- 5:18experience. For example, if my wife's like traveling coming from Duluth or something,
- 5:23I'll just look at my phone and see where she's at, and it
- 5:25sometimes it glitches, and if it shows me that she's like stopped on a
- 5:28road like then I start to panic, like, oh my god, is
- 5:30she get in a car accident? You know she okay, yeah, no,
- 5:32I get that for sure. On your kids, I am not against
- 5:35that at all. In fact, if I could microship my kids right now,
- 5:39I would do hare tag them. The new relationship thing is the one
- 5:44that really got me uncomfortable. How soon into a relationship do you feel like
- 5:47you would be willing to share your location for me personally, probably like six
- 5:51months to a year, like, but anything before three months now that's weird.
- 5:57It would have be a red flag for you. If you did ask
- 5:58somebody and they refute to share their location, I mean, if they were
- 6:01like, oh, I'm just a private person, then yeah, you gotta
- 6:03go. That's a red PLA. Yeah. I just got a text message
- 6:06here with somebody who does their husband, their kids. But also they're close
- 6:10co workers. So, Pike, should we be sharing locations with each other?
- 6:13I already have yours. I did one of the you know, like
- 6:15in the movies you see them like sneak a little thing underneath the car when
- 6:20yeah, I have those on all my coworkers. Oh god, thank you
- 6:24so much. Like, yes, have a good day. I think you
- 6:28guys ought to do it. Amanda, I think you and your husband should
- 6:30share each other's locations. What do you think? We asked Nick? Sure,
- 6:32okay, because funny enough, I have him on the phone right now.
- 6:35Nick, are you there? Oh here? Yeah, Nick, we're
- 6:38throwing around the idea of Amanda and you sharing each other's locations on your phone.
- 6:42What do you think of that. The day that happens, I'll get
- 6:45a flip phone. Oh come on, what are you trying to hide there?
- 6:48Sir? Get Amanda in the morning. No, Amanda stills let's see,
- 6:57Let's see brought to buy Valley Service Mechanical. Katy released her track list
- 7:01for her upcoming album, The Tortured Poets Department yesterday, sixteen songs in total,
- 7:05plus a little bonus track called Manuscript. I think if you get the
- 7:09vinyl. But she's got some collaborations, interesting post Malone being one of them,
- 7:13and Florence in the Machine. The one song title that got me was
- 7:16Floriad with three exclamation points. I'm like, is this just like a Florida
- 7:21girl's anthem? Like they went down and partied. I just have so many
- 7:26questions. I can't wait to hear it. You know the last song that
- 7:28was about a weekend partying in Florida. What Vanilla ICE's renowned track Ice Ice
- 7:33Baby that was in Florida? Yeah, a one a beat front avenue.
- 7:40Oh my bad, you know a little. I talked to him one time,
- 7:45you know, did you Vanilla? And I was on stage with you
- 7:47them one time and didn't know until I saw the pictures. I was like,
- 7:50oh that was a fun night, Amanda. Oh good embarrassing. You
- 7:54had a little loosey goosey, didn't you? You were there? Yeah?
- 7:57I know. Well, anyway, I'm talking to Vanilla as I call him.
- 8:00I was like, hey, dude, what was that song about?
- 8:03And it was a dumb question, probably, but you say I explained it
- 8:05was about one wild weekend in Miami. Really, yeah, I gotta go
- 8:09back and hear the lyrics because I'm thinking, like, Ice, Ice baby,
- 8:13what does that have anything to do with having a good time. It's
- 8:16deeper than that. I know. It's not underestimate his songwriting. Now,
- 8:20Okay, you said he was featured on the new album Taylor sw I don't
- 8:22even know why we started talking about Vanilla Ice. Well you brought it up,
- 8:26Oh Florida. Yeah, okay, Oh so post Malone on the track.
- 8:31Though, that sounds like a guaranteed hit, I would think, Yeah,
- 8:33No, I'm super excited. Demi Moore, she was with Drew Berrymore
- 8:37yesterday talking about a lot of different things, but she ended up dishing that
- 8:41she still has some of the pots in her home that she created with Patrick
- 8:46Swayzey from that infamous scene in Ghost. She said that the saddest looking things,
- 8:50but I still kept up. I'm like, that's awesome. I've never
- 8:54seen that film. No way, you've never seen Ghost. No, it
- 8:58sounds interesting. There was a famous pottery scene. Is that right? Get
- 9:03out of here? Is that like the whole plot of the movie your girl
- 9:07Whoopye is in this? Yeah? I know, does Whoopee have any nude
- 9:11scenes? I need to shut this program down, Drake. Yesterday there was
- 9:18a video that was released of him laying in bed and he was just there
- 9:20by himself, let's just say, hanging around. It was very uncomfortable.
- 9:26He is not ashamed of it at all. Oh, we don't know that
- 9:28for sure. Well, he was sending his buddy laughing emojis when the guy
- 9:31called him out, saying like, well, way to go, bud.
- 9:35He might be ashamed because it might be so excessive that it'd be like almost
- 9:39embarrassing. You know. Oh come on, I mean there's a point,
- 9:43right, Isn't there a line where it's like, okay, a little there's
- 9:46a little much. Don't you think it was a little much? Well,
- 9:50if there's a line, he found it Amanda in the morning on Big seven.
- 9:56Does money buy happiness? I mean you hear that all the time.
- 10:00Have money? Now you hear money? What do you hear all the time?
- 10:01Is money doesn't buy happiness? And it's just the easiest thing to be
- 10:05like, yeah, right, that's just what they tell us. But really
- 10:09they put it to the study A manded. They did this whole study across
- 10:11the globe where basically they went into these little like villages and communities where people
- 10:16like really have no income in all. Yeah, absolutely, and you know
- 10:18what they found. They found they indeed were happy. And so the conclusion
- 10:22was that money does not buy happiness. I like this. I think of
- 10:26some of like the happiest moments that I have, and it's typically like the
- 10:31smallest things, if that makes sense. Like for me, it's like the
- 10:33nostalgia of going back to where I grew up at the lake and being there,
- 10:37like that's my quote happy place, you know what I mean. But
- 10:39you also got to have a lake place. So that's where I grew up.
- 10:41But a lot of people, like for my husband that he enjoys it
- 10:45now, but his happy place is just being back in Iowa with the corn
- 10:48No, I'm just kidding whatever, you know what I mean, wherever that
- 10:50nest a lake house, he had a corn house. He had a cornhouse.
- 10:54Yeah, big cornhouse, guy. Uh, But you know what I
- 10:56mean. I feel like that's what truly makes you have is when you're in
- 11:01those moments or those places. Well, it's one thing when you're a kid,
- 11:03because obviously you don't even have a context so what money even is.
- 11:07And you can have just as much fun with a rubber tire as you can
- 11:09with the most expensive you know, gaming or play devices, totally, but
- 11:13obviously as an adult there is something to the fact that, like, if
- 11:16you're financially just crippled, you know, you're drowning in debt, you can't
- 11:20make ends meet financially, that's the struggle that is adding some negativity to your
- 11:26life. Whereas if you had a bunch of money and none of those things
- 11:28existed, yeah, that would help a lot. But rich people still find
- 11:31problems, of course, sometimes even more so. I think we adjust to
- 11:35whatever your situation is. Whether you were a caveman who had no money and
- 11:39you just had like some rocks, you think they found some happiness. I
- 11:43bet they did, especially if they found a heart rock or something like,
- 11:46Hey, they don't even the modern day heart shape wasn't invented until the late
- 11:52eighteenth century. Are you crazy? You think? Are you think you think
- 11:56a homo erectus was finding a hard shape a drop and going and then going
- 12:01over to somebody else and going I don't know how they talked. How did
- 12:05they talk? You know how it came man like going up, Oh yeah,
- 12:09like kind of the tarzan ish like going up to say it's Jane and
- 12:13you found the heart. It's like she's because they're super and she goes no,
- 12:18I'm thinking more like if they managed to take down a t rex,
- 12:22imagine the happiness there. Probably chances aren't good. No way way are you
- 12:28taking down You're telling me Homo erectus couldn't take down a t rex. Have
- 12:33you seen dinosaurs skin? As a matter of fact, man that I haven't
- 12:39trending. Now here's what you need to know. Well, in case you
- 12:43missed it, Yesterday was Red Tuesday and it's a holiday that kind of continues
- 12:48up until Valentine's Day. If you're in a relationship that you're like, what
- 12:50does Red Tuesday? I know, But as far as the breakup, I'm
- 12:56getting there. Hang on, so this I think it's only a one day
- 12:58thing. Red Tuesday was yesterday and it is all the lead up to Valentine's
- 13:03Day. If you're with somebody that you may be you know it's not going
- 13:07to work out. You have since yesterday all the way up until Valentine's Day
- 13:11to cut it off, and Pizza Hut wants to help. They've launched Day
- 13:13Goodbye Pies. It is a limited edition hot Honey Goodbye Pie that they'll deliver
- 13:20the spicy news in a sweet way for free the custom piece of pizza box.
- 13:24You can like write their name, like, hey, whoever it is,
- 13:28you're out of here. Still, let me give me a sure getting
- 13:31this right. Red Tuesday goes for about a week. That's one of the
- 13:35longest Tuesdays I've ever heard. But hey, if you know they're not the
- 13:41one, definitely break up with them before Valentine's Day. That was the thing.
- 13:46I think Red Tuesday's like the kickoff of it, Like, hey,
- 13:48like Fat Tuesday. Yes, exactly, there we go. Sorry, thank
- 13:52you for clarifying that. Of course, everybody else who was super confused.
- 13:56What Super Bowl commercials? I cannot believe seven million dollars a pop for a
- 14:01thirty second ad is really they could charge whatever they wanted. It's the single
- 14:07greatest piece of advertising real estate that exists. Yeah, the most people,
- 14:11it's the most watched television event every year by far. Some of these people
- 14:16are doing a great job about teasing. Like I just was on Instagram and
- 14:20I saw a it looks like Frank's Red Hot Sauce. Ye and Jason Kelsey
- 14:24are teaming up for something, but they've just done like this ridiculous, like
- 14:28fifteen second clip of him shaking a bottle of Frank Sauce and it says like,
- 14:33look forward to the actual ad. I appreciate that kind of marketing because
- 14:37some of these others they're not even spoilers, or they're spoilers because they're just
- 14:41showing you the entire commercial already. Who cares they're commercials. I don't know
- 14:46they're advertisements. I missed the good old days. Call me a boomer.
- 14:50I used to love watching the Super Bowl for the commercials like Jennifer Anison,
- 14:54David Swimmer, Jelly Roll, the Beckhams, and Usher. They're starting to
- 14:58start in a commercial for Uber Eats. Arnold Twartzenegger is going to be teaming
- 15:03up with Jake from State Farm, Aubrey Plaza, Nick Offerman from Parks and
- 15:07rec. They're going to have reunion for Mountain Dew, and then there's going
- 15:09to be a bud Light New super Bowl Genie that is going to be granting
- 15:13wishes with Peyton Manning and post Malone, Okay and more. We've already seen
- 15:16the one where they're trying to get a bunch of people, actors, musicians
- 15:20are trying to get over this mountain and seeing this this is how it goes.
- 15:24I couldn't even tell you what the product was. I've seen the commercial.
- 15:26They've already say then that's probably Go Daddy, because isn't that their stick?
- 15:31Like you watch an entire commercial and you have no idea what it's about,
- 15:33and then it's Go Daddy does. For years, I didn't know what
- 15:35Go Daddy was. Danica Patrick was just being all sexy in the commercial and
- 15:39I just remember that. But then you know, eventually I would need to
- 15:41create a website and I was like, oh, okay, that's what Go
- 15:45Daddy does. I know. I'm trying to think. There was a couple
- 15:46over the last years where you have no idea and then they have you like
- 15:50either scan the QR code or they'd have like a follow up and you're like,
- 15:54oh my gosh, that's what about. See those are the commercials that
- 15:56I think were if I was a marketing expert, and you are. I
- 16:00am, all right. ESPN, Fox, and Warner Brothers Discovery announced they
- 16:04have a plan to launch a brand new streaming platform. They're all coming together
- 16:08and at least fifteen different networks and all four major professional sports leagues are teaming
- 16:14up for this app. We don't know how much it's going to be supposed
- 16:17to launch in the fall. I'm guessing this one isn't going to be your
- 16:19nine to ninety nine, fifteen ninety nine. They were thinking more, and
- 16:22we were reading this expert saying that if they come in right under what you
- 16:26would pay for normal like TV service, so like seventy to one hundred dollars,
- 16:30maybe under that just a bit, But then it's just what are you
- 16:33getting. It's not going to be an app that has every game of all
- 16:36of those four major sports, right. It's not going to show you every
- 16:38NFL game, because that already on its own is one hundreds of dollars subscription
- 16:44a year with the NFL Ticket Sunday NFL Ticket. So there's no way that's
- 16:48just football. Yeah, but football is so much bigger than any of those
- 16:52other sports. I don't know, I just I saw this, I'm like,
- 16:53yes, this is exciting. I bet my husband is jacked about this.
- 16:56But it's like, okay, so now we're adding another one because we
- 16:59already have ESPN Plus, but that's with Hulu and Disney. So the expert
- 17:03also did say when they were talking about this, you can just go ahead
- 17:06and add that into the bundle. I don't think, honestly, for anybody.
- 17:08This is just for like if you're living alone and you're just a sports
- 17:11guy or girl. But if you want to watch any other TV at all,
- 17:15you're better off just getting a normal TV, Hulu, Live, YouTube
- 17:18TV, a cable search. We have mid co. Sure yeah, sure,
- 17:22Like we're old school. We like it like the normal, the normal
- 17:26television. Well, yeah, that's fine. Is that nice? I don't
- 17:29know how much do you pay? I'll tell you how nice. It is
- 17:32very cost effective. Like in a minute in the morning on Big Nuddy Points,
- 17:38I've asked this question a million times, never had an actual good answer
- 17:42for it. But are you a sparkling water gal, I'll drink it.
- 17:45I actually am just kind of like a regular water and lemon girls, Well,
- 17:49then choose the side. Because for those of us that are sparkling water
- 17:55people, it's a lifestyle. But the question has always been is it just
- 17:57as healthy as regular Does it hydrate you just like water? Is it good
- 18:02for you? And I've got the answers, okay, okay, So one,
- 18:04the question of whether or not it hydrates you like your normal regular flat
- 18:08water. Experts say the effects of the carbonation on the hydration negligible, as
- 18:15in not really making a difference. So yes, it hydrates you just as
- 18:18much. Okay, good to know, because my kids love sparkling waters.
- 18:22Sparkling water, it's just something about it. It's just a little bit of
- 18:26a treat. Obviously, it's not like the greatest tasting thing in the world.
- 18:29At the end of the day, it's still more exciting than drink and
- 18:32regular water. It feels like a bit of a Treatyah. Well, then
- 18:34also the question of is it just as healthy as regular water, and they
- 18:38say that yes it is, although the only downside is that it can trigger
- 18:41acid reflux, gassiness and or bloating. Well, then the other downside of
- 18:47this, of course, they say, it does hurt your teeth. The
- 18:49old sparkling they say, when you drink it, there's a chemical reaction in
- 18:53your mouth that turns carbon dioxide into an acid and then erodes the enamel on
- 18:59your teeth. Ye, there's some given here. Yeah, everything is in
- 19:03moderation. And also just like financially, just stick with the regular H two
- 19:07l beg of lemons is usually a lot cheaper than do you ever just do
- 19:11water with lemon? No mint, you number, no nothing. Sometimes I'll
- 19:15put a pickle in there, do you big pickle water guy? Pickle pw
- 19:19is I called. We're not talking beer like we're we're talking H two oh.
- 19:26Anything to spice it up a little
