- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning. So today is a follow up from
- 0:32yesterday. My son went yesterday.
- 0:35If you haven't listened to that podcast yet, my son was going in
- 0:40to do his driver's education day and get his permit.
- 0:45And it was a day that was filled with all the emotions as we
- 0:48talked about. So you know, it was a a long day
- 0:52because you're obviously not hearing from him.
- 0:54He's not texting, there's no communication and and he
- 0:58messages me at one point and says, you know, I don't actually
- 1:01leave with the permit, so don't bring my truck.
- 1:06And I was like, OK, OK. But in any event, I was like, I
- 1:09wonder what's happening now. Of course, you know, kids,
- 1:12interpretations of information, all these things always
- 1:15different. So I go and I pick him up and he
- 1:20I go inside and he actually got his permit.
- 1:24They just don't give him the physical permit until he goes to
- 1:27the DMV to actually be in there and have his eye test and do all
- 1:31this. But he got his permit.
- 1:32There's a sealed envelope. I take it I go and he was in a
- 1:37class with like 25 other kids and it wasn't anybody that he
- 1:41knew. He, his friends, his two friends
- 1:43here already have their permits. So he didn't know anybody and he
- 1:48had known that they had taken the test and they failed it the
- 1:51first time. Actually one of them failed it 2
- 1:53times and then they had to go back again.
- 1:56But we decided to go to the driver's education route because
- 1:59it's me and I'm certainty driven and I want him to see all the
- 2:02things he needs to know. This is like an 8 hour class.
- 2:05So as I come in the door and I see him standing there, he's got
- 2:10this grin on his face. And I said everything good.
- 2:13And he's and he's like one of the last three kids getting
- 2:16picked up, which is odd because they told me to pick him up at
- 2:184:00. I was there at 3:45 and he was,
- 2:22everybody else was already gone. So I said everything OK, And
- 2:25he's like, yeah. And the guy said, I just want
- 2:29you to know that he is an excellent student.
- 2:32And I said, oh, that's awesome. He said he only missed one
- 2:35question. And he said, I didn't miss it.
- 2:38I knew the answer when he asked it to me.
- 2:40I just put the wrong one down. And I said, well, you missed it.
- 2:44And he goes, yes, well, technically I wrote the wrong
- 2:46thing down, but I knew the answer.
- 2:48And I was like, OK, that's I'm glad you know the answer because
- 2:51that's all that's really important.
- 2:53And the man said to me, you know, he, he was incredible all
- 2:58day. And I said, OK, and now I, I
- 3:01knew when I dropped him off, he went in and he sat front row
- 3:05center like he didn't go to the back.
- 3:08So we get out in the truck coming home, congratulations.
- 3:12We're making our plan for when I can take him.
- 3:14And he's I said, so tell me the particulars what happened.
- 3:18And he said, MO, it's like, you know, it was an unbelievable
- 3:23crazy observation day. I think that was the way he put
- 3:27it was an he said the word. He was observing everybody as as
- 3:30he was taking the class too. And I said, what do you mean?
- 3:32He goes, well, most of the people didn't want to sit up
- 3:35front. Everybody sat in the back.
- 3:37And I said, oh, that's well, I said, I think a lot of people do
- 3:41that. And he's like, yeah, I don't
- 3:42know why. And I was like, OK.
- 3:45And then he said the man was having trouble with the
- 3:48projector and getting stuff going for us and everybody was
- 3:53laughing at him and he was asking them to be quiet and, and
- 3:58they wouldn't be. And they were so rude.
- 4:01And he's like, and I just, and I couldn't believe they were
- 4:04laughing at him. I mean, he was trying to do a
- 4:05good thing for us and they were laughing at him.
- 4:08And in this moment, I felt like my heart was just growing
- 4:12exponentially because I can see that that is something I would
- 4:17want him to feel. I would want him to feel that
- 4:20way when other people were being hurt that he would not be
- 4:23participating in that. And I, I knowing him, I said,
- 4:27did you say something? And he's like, of course.
- 4:30And I said, what did you say? And he goes, I just turned
- 4:33around and said, give him a break.
- 4:35And, you know, I said, what did they say?
- 4:37And he goes, well, they laughed and I don't really care.
- 4:39He's like, these are not people I want in my life.
- 4:42And I thought, Oh my God, how awesome is that?
- 4:46That he did not even care. I said, did it bother you to
- 4:48stay in there though after that? And he's like, no, why?
- 4:51I said what I had to say. And I was like, I don't know.
- 4:53I was just curious. And it's so awesome to me that
- 4:57he has that outlook. Like it didn't even bother him.
- 5:00It didn't even bother him. And he looked around and he's,
- 5:04but my husband and I and he both went, he just looked at us and
- 5:07he was like, you can't believe it.
- 5:09He's like, they come in, they're not dressed properly.
- 5:12He's like, there's a girl who's got a skirt and it's up to her
- 5:15hip. And I'm like, what are you
- 5:17trying to prove here? And he's like, and, and people
- 5:20are just, you know, being mean and, and they're picking at each
- 5:24other and they're not paying attention.
- 5:26And when it was time for the lunch order, he's like, they
- 5:29just ate way more than they needed to.
- 5:33And it was, it was just gross. And I just sat there and I was
- 5:36like, wow. He's like, they did nothing to
- 5:40be nice to the man. And I, I, I just was in awe of
- 5:45the fact that he had such observations at 16 years old and
- 5:51they didn't affect him. He didn't let it get to him.
- 5:54He had a great day. He walked out with a sealed
- 5:57envelope. And apparently that's the thing
- 5:58you want to do, walk out with a sealed envelope and that's your
- 6:00goal. And he was so adamant that, you
- 6:04know, we get to the DMV right away on Monday.
- 6:06And I was like, absolutely, we'll figure it out, you know?
- 6:09And it was just a joy. So I wanted to say and bring
- 6:13this to you today because here's the thing, he's 16 and he got it
- 6:17figured out. You don't need to worry about
- 6:18what other people are saying or doing.
- 6:21You focus on you. You focus on you.
- 6:24And I've told him that forever. And he was like, I focused on
- 6:27myself. And I was like, wow, that is so
- 6:31awesome. He said what he had to say.
- 6:32He felt bad for the man. He did it the right way.
- 6:35And I'm having a proud mom moment, but I'm also in awe to
- 6:39him because I know there have been times when I've said things
- 6:42and people have laughed and I've let it get to me and I shouldn't
- 6:46have. So granted, it was a very long
- 6:49time ago, but still, I'm in awe of that.
- 6:52So maybe we can all take that into our day today.
- 6:55All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I'll
- 6:57see you tomorrow. Bye.
