- 2:28and also we'll be joined by some folks from Astrogatto to talk about that.
- 2:32All right, So now that we set the stage for you, this one
- 2:35to welcome into the show Jessica Hall. She's the director of communications for Hospice
- 2:38Care in the area. Their fortieth annual Love Light Tree season is here.
- 2:43Jessa, Good, good morning, and welcome to the show. Thank you,
- 2:46Dave, good morning, Thank you for being here tell us about this
- 2:49program. Yeah, so, Hospice Here's biggest fundraiser is our Love Light season.
- 2:53People love it because we hang ornaments in honor and memory of loved ones,
- 2:58usually patients that we've had, but it can be an honor and memory
- 3:01of anyone. And we're celebrating forty years this year with a fortieth anniversary tree
- 3:07at Holly Jolly Brawley. And we also have our usual standing trees at Capital
- 3:13Market, at the United Bank and the Main Lobby and at the Hubbard House,
- 3:16so people can just purchase a decorative item for the tree or how does
- 3:22it work. We actually have our own ornaments that will put okay, loving
- 3:25memory of your loved one's name on there. And we have paper ornaments at
- 3:32the Market and at the United Bank, and we have a QR code ornament
- 3:38that's hanging on our Holly Jolly Brawley tree, So you can go right up
- 3:40to it, scan one of those ornaments and make your donation right there and
- 3:44we will go and hang your ornaments on our tree. I mean, you
- 3:46can't beat that. I mean, who need work for And for forty years
- 3:52this has been going on. Now obviously you haven't been a part of over
- 3:53forty years. But I mean, do you know anything about the beginnings of
- 3:58this, about how it all started. People who patients that we've served in
- 4:02their families, they were looking for a way to honor their loved ones,
- 4:06especially around this season career. Christmas sometimes can be a hard time if you've
- 4:12recently lost a loved one. Even if you haven't recently lost one, that
- 4:15reflection of the whole that they have left when you're celebrating with family can be
- 4:20hard. So the Love Light Season is a way to just bring a little
- 4:25light and honor and remember and share stories about a loved one. Talk about
- 4:31again, we're talking with Jessica Hall, who's the director of communications for Hospice
- 4:34carry in the area. Talk about the overall work of hospice care. So,
- 4:39hospice is such a wonderful service. We are truly there to hold the
- 4:45family's hand, the patient's hand, to make sure that everyone has dignity and
- 4:50peace and comfort in their final times. That's not just again for the patient,
- 4:56it's for the families as well. You and I were talking about this
- 4:59before the show. The fami emilies sometimes are in need of the collective hospice
- 5:04care work. Even more than the patients are, absolutely and we are happy
- 5:09to provide it. We have counselors, volunteers, social workers, CNAs,
- 5:15nurses, physicians and all of that is there to support the patient and the
- 5:18family. And in fact, our bereavement services for the family start before the
- 5:24death of a loved one and go full on throughout the year after the growth
- 5:30one has passed. I'm very interested in that talk about how that works.
- 5:34Okay, somebody has been deemed you know, they always say hospice has been
- 5:38called in or however you want to do the wording on that kind of what
- 5:42is said during those services and as far as the preparation goes trying to prepare
- 5:47the family for the loss of mom or dad or grandma or whoever. Absolutely,
- 5:51So, you know, when we talk about death, we often talk
- 5:55about the fact that people aren't necessarily afraid of dying, but they're afraid of
- 6:00dying process. There's a lot of things that change in the dying process mentally,
- 6:06physically, and it can be very difficult for a family to witness those
- 6:11changes in their loved one. So when hospice is called in, and hopefully
- 6:15sooner rather than later, because the sooner that we can get in there the
- 6:20longer. We have that support for your page, for your loved one and
- 6:25for the family, and we come in and we make sure that all the
- 6:29medical equipment that you have you have access to it all. We help with
- 6:33prescriptions, running errands, we help monitor comfort, and we help. We
- 6:42are our social workers that can help with legal matters and helping with finding appropriate
- 6:47home care, help if you need twenty four hour care. Our counselors are
- 6:54in there to help families talk through grief. We have and in fact,
- 6:58our Walls Center we offer bereavement and counseling services to the entire community. Talking
- 7:04about the Wallace Center, Yeah, so the Wallace Center Wallas Grief and Education
- 7:10Center is actually connected to our administration office now on the West Side, and
- 7:15we host therapy and counseling groups throughout the week, multiples throughout the week,
- 7:21and some of them are with families of patients who have passed. But they
- 7:27are open to the community and in fact, we're often called in if there
- 7:31is a need at a school or a business, we'll be called in to
- 7:39help facilitate counseling there. Talking again with Jessica Hall, the director of Communications
- 7:43for hospice care in the area. The Dave Allan Show and five eighty Live

- 8:01Love Light Program. This thing has just gotten so huge, Jessica, over
- 8:05the years, it's kind of become a part of the of the Christmas season
- 8:09with Holly Jolly, brawling, with everything else going on. Charleston. Absolutely,
- 8:13Like I said, it's this time of year is one of It can
- 8:16be a hard time for people who have lost a loved one, but we
- 8:20have been able just like we try and flip the idea of how you think
- 8:22about hospice. Hospice is about living to the max for whatever time you have
- 8:28left. It's about dignity and love and peace and comfort and celebrating life and
- 8:33affirming life. And we like to do our Lovelight Tree season to help people
- 8:39find that hope and that love once again when they're remembering a loved one.

- 9:03right there. That again, when you bring the family out to Holly Jolly
- 9:07Braley, you got the QR code. You just take your phone out and
- 9:09you got auto mact with make a donation and they know that the donation is
- 9:13going. We don't turn anyone away who acquires our service. Most no one
- 9:18pays out of pocket. Most hospices covered by Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance.
- 9:22If there are expenses, they're all covered through our donations and our fundraisers.

- 13:03and astorg Otto of Charleston's Toy Drive. Rob King of astorg Otto and LIEUTENA.
- 13:07David Paine from the Charleston Police Department are here. Gentlemen, Good morning,
- 13:09how are you? Good morning morning, and thank you for being here.
- 13:13Guys. I appreciate you being here one day away from the start of
- 13:16this thing, and you can jump in at any time I get anything wrong.
- 13:20Here Day one, day two, of course, both days at the
- 13:22Bennichuetan parking lot of one hundred Corriier Street in Charleston. Lieutenant Paine, let's
- 13:26start with you, why exactly is the Charleston Police Department involved in this Well,
- 13:31it started really four years ago. We usually do shop with the COP
- 13:35and during COVID, basically we didn't have any The FOP didn't have the fund
- 13:41to provide for that shop with the COP that year. So I basically went
- 13:46to the chief and said, hey, listen, I'd like to have a
- 13:46toy drive because I never wanted to go a year without providing toys for the
- 13:52kids. And basically I said, hey, I would like to have a
- 13:54toy drive. I like to put our truck out and basically just collect toys.
- 13:58I was just thinking for just a few kids, you know. He
- 14:01said, let's roll with it, and uh, Basically, one thing led
- 14:03to another. Contacted some friends at Low's. During the Cassie Johnson funeral,
- 14:09we were sitting. I was sitting at the window of the Minnie Keaton parking
- 14:13lot and all our blue lights were on. So reminded me of Christmas,
- 14:16and I say this, this will be a perfect place basically to have our
- 14:18toy drive because it just lit up so well. So I contacted Low's some
- 14:24friends at Low's and they provided some bouncy houses and some lights. At that
- 14:28time, Rob King had called me and they said they had some money they'd
- 14:31like to donate. This is Astorgatto correct, and that provided us the money
- 14:37the first year really to really kick this thing off. How many years ago
- 14:41was this again, it was basically four years ago. Yeah, this is
- 14:45our fourth annual CPD Wonderland Toy Drive and this has just expanded then. This
- 14:48last year we were able to provide toys for seven hundred and fifty children and
- 14:52this year we'd like to break that and hopefully provide a thousand, a round
- 14:58number a thous right, right, So it's it's really grown and it's really
- 15:03our way of giving back to the community. That's why we provide the Wonderland
- 15:05for the kids to come. Everything is free there. We'll have bouncy houses
- 15:09provided by Quantum Sports, We'll have cocoa intreats for the kids Santah, We'll
- 15:15have a little present for the kids that that come. And also Chick fil
- 15:22A has provided us with one hundred and fifty be our guest cards for the
- 15:26first one hundred and fifty people that drop off a new toy. Yeah,
- 15:30that's good stuff. I mean, when you rob bu king again from Astorgatto,
- 15:33why why is asstor Gatto involved in this rub? Basically when we have
- 15:37you come a little bit closer to my troll officer, Cassie Johnson, was
- 15:43there a tragedy. Our owner came downstairs and he was like, I want
- 15:46to do something to get back to the police officers that are really hurting right
- 15:48now. So I got in contact with David Pain and that's kind of grown
- 15:54from there. One of my good friends, Scott ellis wins al Co Mechanical.
- 15:58He also always matted just whatever astorg Atto does. Okay, he kind
- 16:02of silently does an awful lot of stuff in the community, but he wanted
- 16:06to also provide. So each year we have that to start with, and
- 16:10then different people in clients all donate stuff throughout the process. And you mentioned
- 16:15this, and I know I've known Lieutenant Paine for some time, but I
- 16:18know he's kind of a shy and humble guy when it comes to this kind
- 16:22of stuff. But you said to me Rob before we went on the gear,
- 16:26that this was a vision that others had, including Sergeant Paint and you
- 16:30guys with Astoor Gear kind of just to condo it, to help out with
- 16:33a little bit, but this is kind of his vision that you folks have
- 16:37gotten involved with and have grown it even bigger and better. Oh, it's
- 16:40been fun to watch. I mean, it's from what we had at the
- 16:44beginning to each year, how many people he touches throughout the whole Christmas season
- 16:49to kind of bring joy and Charleston. I mean watching the police of the
- 16:55truck they drove around and took toys to people that were just walking down the
- 16:59street. One of those things that really still in my mind it was like
- 17:03that was fun to watch. I mean, it was a neat, neat
- 17:06event. Yeah. And did you ever think, though, Payne, when
- 17:11you started this thing, or when you know, you guys got involved in
- 17:14this, you think, man, it's just I mean, you're talking about
- 17:15a thousand that's your goal this year. I mean the heck, let's do
- 17:18you know fifteen hundred to two thousand next year. To ever think it would
- 17:22get this big, I didn't. I really didn't. Like I said,
- 17:23my goal was really to provide kids toys for more than five kids basically,
- 17:29and I never really imagined they would get to this big. And it's just
- 17:32a generosity of the people in our communities that's really made this really grow.
- 17:37Everybody comes out and supports the event and we're just really thankful. Is West
- 17:41Virginia not the most giving place all in the world. It really is everything
- 17:45that we do, people really come out and support it, and we really
- 17:47appreciate that. And I want to give a big shot. I'm going to
- 17:48kind of break away from this for a moment. I'm want to give a
- 17:51big shot out to you guys because this past weekend, I know it's an
- 17:52event that you do, the Tarlet's Police Department and others get involved with every
- 17:56year for the kids that are at Women's and Children's Hospital. I saw that
- 18:00video. I think I saw it for the first time Sunday morning. Steve
- 18:03Bishop from our sister station V one hundred's involved in that. For the kids
- 18:07that are hospitalized on Women's and Children's. You basically light up the night for
- 18:12them. Talk about that. Oh yeah, Like like Steve says, it's
- 18:15magical. You know. We have we have officers from all over the county
- 18:18basically come together and we put on what I call the Lights of Love,
- 18:22and we basically and that This all started also during COVID where we couldn't go
- 18:26into the hospitals, but we still wanted to show the kids that we that
- 18:30we appreciate them and really was rooting for them. So I decided to bring
- 18:33all the officers together. We did a lighted vehicle parade over the bridge at
- 18:38the same time. The Stern Wheels Association provided the boat parade in the rear
- 18:41of the hospital so the kids in the back of the hospital could see.
- 18:45We dropped them off reindeer headgear lights that shine back at us, and some
- 18:49coloring books and they look forward to it every year. Uh. And Sanna
- 18:53really has the best position. He says that you wouldn't believe the responses that
- 18:57he sees through through those windows. Yeah, it's really good. It was
- 19:00amazing. And I've got that video posted because I think you guys had done
- 19:04it on the Charleston Police Department social media and I shared it on Dave Island
- 19:08Radio, And so if you get a chance, go back. I think
- 19:11I posted it Sunday, I think is when I posted it. Go back
- 19:14and take a look at that video, and you just see the entire Charleston
- 19:17area just lit up with these blue lights. You mentioned the boats that were
- 19:18out on the on the river, and these are This was designed for these
- 19:23kids that were hospitalized the Women's and Children's correct correct some some can get out
- 19:27and this is their only chance sometimes to see Santa up and close and yeah,
- 19:33I mean, because you don't you literally lift Santa up. Oh we
- 19:34do. We hoist Sand up in the fire truck and he's able to wave
- 19:37at every kid in the windows and some kids can't make it to the window
- 19:41and so and it really brightens their day. The parents really appreciate this,
- 19:45staff really appreciates it. They look forward to this event every year. I
- 19:49wanted to give you a chance to talk about that again. We're talking with
- 19:53Rob King of Astorgato and LIEUTENO David Baine from the Pain from the Charleston Police
- 19:56Department again. This toy drive though, getting back to that, it's tomorrow
- 20:00Thursday at the Benny Keatam Shrine on on Coreyer next to the College Team Convention
- 20:03Center. And also want to give a big shout out to the folks at
- 20:07the Shrine Club. I know I have Chris Witthrow had him on the show
- 20:10last week. They're just good, good folks there that are always constantly giving
- 20:12back to the community on things like this. They are they anytime we've asked
- 20:17them to to use their lot, they've they've been very obligate, you know.
- 20:22They they've every they've they've they've helped us out every year. Uh.
- 20:26And they also had their I believe Santa's coming to their lot. I believe
- 20:30on Saturday. I believe to be busy in Charleston. Yeah. Yeah,
- 20:34so, and I think I mentioned you said this last time that I mean
- 20:38this toy drive just expands sometimes beyond Charleston. I mean, it just goes
- 20:41everywhere, right, Oh, it does. We've seen we we actually put
- 20:45the application up on Sunday. I had to pull it within two hours because
- 20:49it reached our point where we had to stall it until we actually saw how
- 20:53many toys we were going to actually receive. So, but people come as
- 20:57far as fair Mind I saw in this apple. So we go outside of
- 21:02really the county, you know, we will. If they'll come and get
- 21:04it, we'll provide toys for kids all over the state. Yeah, I
- 21:07mean it's uh, it is Unbelievablegain Lieutenant David Paine is here, Rob king
- 21:11Alsto from Astorgado. So, uh, people are listening right now, guys,
- 21:15and they say, look, I want to get involved. I'm listening
- 21:18at where we have so many people that listen to the station while they're working
- 21:22or they're doing whatever. My business, my family, my church, my
- 21:25civic group, would like to get involved in help out of this. What
- 21:27can they do well, if they want to donate a toy, of course,
- 21:30just drive by Benny Ketom through the lot. They can drop it off.
- 21:33They don't even have to get out of their car. Wednesday and Thursday.
- 21:36Wednesday and thirty is Thursday, correct, between eleven and seven also in
- 21:40those days. Just let me get back up just a little bit of Tomorrow.

- 29:34about this Charleston Police Department toy drive. I'll have some of the others from
- 29:38ass Torogato and also possibly from the Charleston Police Department in on the show,
- 29:42Mark, I just totally believe in this program. I don't normally give devote
- 29:47something for two straight days, but I'm going to tomorrow, all right,
- 29:49so because I just I just think it's a wonderful program the Charleston Police Department
- 29:53puts on. So I want to talk about that coming up on the show
- 29:56tomorrow later on in the week. Let me see on Friday. Now,
- 30:00I do a thing on Friday called Friday Funhouse where I'm bringing a different guest
- 30:03host this time around. I'm looking forward because I've known this guy for a
- 30:07long long time, probably twenty twenty five thirty years, but I've never actually
- 30:11interviewed him on the air, and he's certainly never done anything like this.
- 30:15Filmmaker Danny Boyd is going to be my Friday guest host. And I've known
- 30:19Danny for various things. He's an interesting guy, wonderful guy, travels all
- 30:25over the world, does films, but he's based here in the kanav Valley
- 30:29and he is going to join us coming up on the show on Friday.
- 30:37Text to get to get those here into capital moments, So mind hims from
- 30:40the news. I get text to the show frequently from people asking me if
- 30:45there's been any update as it pertains to the Kannan Canty Commissioner Kent Carper situation.
- 30:51Now you will recall that the Kanana County Commissioned President, mister Carper is
- 30:56accused, accused being the keyword, of exposing himself in public. Now,
- 31:03it all happened last May Daniel boot Park, a lady there had complained that
- 31:07a gentleman exposed himself while sitting in a van. Now it's alledged that it
- 31:14was Ken Carper, and it was alleged that Commissioner Carper later sent an email
- 31:18to the girlfriend of the police officer who was investigating the incident and offered her
- 31:23a job. And that's been well documented. You know everybody's seeing that email
- 31:29by now that again we're talking about his situation that happened in May. Keep
- 31:33in mind, everyone is innocent until proven guilty. But if it did happen
- 31:38that particular way, that just hours after this incident, that an email was
- 31:44sent in effect offering her a job, and it was transmitted electronically, there
- 31:49is the key thing there, and you don't have to be CSI to figure
- 31:52that out. It's how they get a lot of people on things. Is
- 31:56when they put information on an email, and that's how it went out.
- 32:00Now others have said whether it wasn't even an opening, and of course the
- 32:04family of KNT Carper has talked about his health issues. No health issues,
- 32:07by the way, have been well documented and and he's even talked about it,
- 32:12and there was families said there was some confusion and things of that nature.
- 32:15So but anyway, still it's the story is still out there, and
- 32:20as I said, I frequently get text of the show when people ask there
- 32:22has been an update. Now, there are some in the in the media.
- 32:27Mark Curtis, our friend from w w K TV thirteen, was one
- 32:30of the first ones that reported that there are some Grandeury testimonies either going on
- 32:37now or have already and are expected over the next couple of days. Now,
- 32:44I was told by a fairly reliable source that Commissioner Lance Wheeler is expected
- 32:50to testify, and I also heard from a very very reliable source that there
- 32:57could be some news breaking on the story perhaps tomorrow. Now, as I
- 33:00sit here at nine point forty on a Tuesday morning, as soon as I
- 33:04say that that ten thirty, something will come out. But as of right
- 33:07now, I'm saying that I have been told that there's going to be some
- 33:10news breaking on the situation coming up tomorrow. I can tell you that I
- 33:15have Canaw County Commissioner Ben Selango's schedule to be on the show on Thursday.
- 33:21Now this was totally this Actually, this interview was set up a long time
- 33:24ago about something totally different. But just so happens that Ben Selango is going
- 33:30to be an on the show on Thursday. So if anything happens as it
- 33:32is associated with the story, I will be asking Commissioner Selango about it,
- 33:38and Jeff and Brad of course the entire news team here monitoring the situation will
- 33:43have more on the air and of course online if anything breaks. So that
- 33:47is the update there. But Dave Island showing five any Live is brought to

- 34:21paid for working three hundred and sixty five days a year. Also, any
- 34:24updates on the senior Charleston police officers racking up excessive overtime pay. No,
- 34:29I have not heard any updates on those stories, but if I do,
- 34:32I will be sure to pass them along to you. The fallout continues over
- 34:40the comments made by Secretary of States and gubernatorial candidate Mac Warner during last week's
- 34:47gubernatorial debate with Hobby in Morgantown. Secretary Warner reiterated his claims that not only
- 34:55was the twenty twenty presidential elections stolen, but it was, according to Mac
- 35:01Warner, by the CIA. Now, as you may imagine, this story
- 35:09has now taken on a life of its own and has literally gone national.
- 35:15The Drudge Report actually picked up Brad's story Brad mclahenney's story about this, and
- 35:22I was told yesterday that Sean Hannity of Fox News was also very interested in
- 35:30Secretary Warner's story could possibly reach out to him about being on the show.
- 35:35I don't know that was the possibility, is to some information I got last
- 35:38night. Now, Secretary Warner is standing by his claims. In fact,
- 35:45he will discuss that with Dave Wilson next hour on talk Line. Dave,
- 35:51of course is it's in for Hoppy this week and Secretary Warner will be on
- 35:55this show tomorrow. So he's not backing down from the statement as a matter
- 36:00of fact of anything. He's going on the offense on these statements. As
- 36:04I said, Nationally, the story has been picked up chief elections official of
- 36:08a state saying that the twenty twenty election was stolen by the CIA, And
- 36:15yeah, he's got a story to tell about this, and he kind of
- 36:17dropped that on the on the show on the debate with Hopey last week.
- 36:22So again he's going to be on I think Top of the Show with Dave
- 36:24Wilson at ten o six and then his folks reached out to me about coming
- 36:29on this show tomorrow. So you get it with two days from the price
- 36:32of one, Dave Wilson Attendo six for Hoppy and then tomorrow around nine forty
- 36:37I think is when I've got him scheduled to be on this show to talk
- 36:39about it tomorrow. Attorney General Patrick Morrissey, of course, who did not
- 36:45participate in the debate last week in Morgantown, is leading in the polls and
- 36:52and and quite frankly, seems to be getting the bulk of the attention in
- 37:00this in this race, of course, because he's a front runer. I
- 37:06mean, he's the one that's raising the most money at this point. So
- 37:13you know, I don't want to try to I have been involved with campaigns
- 37:16in the past. Never been involved with the mc warner campaign, but I
- 37:19have been involved in campaigns in the past, and you're always looking for something
- 37:24in a campaign that will make you stick out, especially when you have a
- 37:29crowded field like we have of Republicans, which would have been unheard of,
- 37:35you know this time twenty years ago. It would have been Democrats this time
- 37:37twenty years ago that want to be the next governor of the say to West
- 37:40Virginia. And you're looking for something that is going to make you stick out.
- 37:44Well, I think mac Warner found it with this, I really do.
- 37:49And he's going to ride that pony and he's going to continue to ride
- 37:52it. So again he's kind of making the rounds statewide and nationally to tell
- 38:00his story on that. Now, Chris Miller, the auto magnate, he
- 38:04of the Dutch Miller family of businesses, I'm told is about to unleash a
- 38:08bunch of money for advertising after the first of your editor's note, we'll gladly
- 38:16take some of that here at WDRC Media, Charleston on the Metro News Radio
- 38:20Networks, mister Miller, somebody told me one time, they said talking about
- 38:24name recognition and matter of fact, Howard Monroe, who does a show very
- 38:30similar to mine up in Wheeling, Watchdog. Howard Monroe was on the post
- 38:36gubernatorial debate coverage that was on the network last week and on the website,
- 38:42and Howard Monroe said, well, I've been Wheeling. Not a lot of
- 38:45people know who Chris Miller is. Well, when you got that kind of
- 38:49money, they'll get to know you real quick. So that's it's gonna be
- 38:54an interesting It's going to be interesting to see what happens after the first of
- 39:00the year. But again, getting back to mcwarner again, he'll be on
- 39:01with Dave Wilson next hour to discuss what has become this huge national story and
- 39:07has claimed that the presidential election will stole them by the CIA. Macwarner on
- 39:12with Dave Wilson coming up next hour as Dave substitute or Hobby this week and
- 39:15Macwarner will be on this show tomorrow. You know, Special Olympics embodies the

- 45:44I'm no expert, but it is a far raage to presume that a
- 45:46one hundred and six year old steel pipe buried in the ground may have become
- 45:51corroded enough to get penetrated by a burst water main. And again this has
- 45:55to do with the situation on the West Side. Now yesterday, ms,
- 46:00of course, are continuing today at the Capitol in Charleston. Now yesterday.
- 46:02Among the highlights, and probably one of the most anticipated events, was when
- 46:07they had the presidents of West Virginia, American Water and Mountaineer Gas respectively,
- 46:13speaking in front of a committee of legislators. They both, the presidents neither
- 46:22indicated that they had any idea that anything bad was about the happens with the
- 46:28situation, no warnings, of course, and neither had any idea that the
- 46:32water main break or the gas leak was as bad as it was later found
- 46:37out to be. Now Brad mclahenny has an in depth story about it at
- 46:42wv metronews dot com, and one of those asking the most questions was delegate
- 46:47and State Democratic Party chair Mike Pushkin, who himself lives on the West Side,
- 46:52and he was one of those and he's talked about He's been on a
- 46:54couple times since the since the gas situation happened on the West Side, he's
- 46:59been on. The matter of fact, he's actually going to be on the
- 47:00show this Thursday to talk about it again. He was one of those that
- 47:05was impacted by the outage. The respective company presidents Robert Burton from Westerrginian American
- 47:15and David Lockin from Mountaineer Gas. Burton said that the exact line that malfunction
- 47:24was examined just hours before the break, which happened back on November tenth.
- 47:34Now, this whole thing was caused by an eight inch water main that was
- 47:44installed back in nineteen eighty nine. And if you know anything at all about
- 47:50this sort of thing, and admittedly I don't, but I've been learning.
- 47:52I've learned more about water mains and gas since November tenth, and I've ever
- 47:59ever knew previous to that. It was installed in nineteen eighty nine and that
- 48:04is relatively young by water main standards. Now, the normal life expectancy normal
- 48:10life is somewhere between eighty and one hundred years, and this one was installed
- 48:15in eighty nine. Now, we got some information yesterday and constaut including a
- 48:22Brad story at wv metronews dot com, that the first call to the water
- 48:25company that was recorded was around one point fifty in the afternoon of the tenth,
- 48:31and the crews from West Ridge and the American Water were on the scene
- 48:35making repairs by five point thirty. Now, the repairs to the water system
- 48:43of West Virgin American Water were completed by the early morning hours of the eleventh,
- 48:50and then when the gas company moved in the president of Mountaineer Gas said
- 48:55that the gas company started receiving no gas calls, you know, people calling
- 49:00complaining that they had no gas and had no heat the evening of the tenth,
- 49:06which was the evening of the break, with the first call coming from
- 49:09the Papa John's location on Patrick Street. As he said, and and you
- 49:16know, we've we've talked about this on the show in the past. Mountaineer
- 49:21Gas doesn't have an emergency alert system like some other utilities do. He and
- 49:30of course, we've had mos of Scaff on the show in the past two
- 49:35who's one of the higher ups there, and mister Scaff has been very very
- 49:37forthcoming with the media, not only on this show, but other media outlets,
- 49:40television, newspaper, and also on with What Hoppy and the crew on
- 49:45talk line. He said that their alert system is going door to door.
- 49:52Well, that seems efficient. Both the presidents yesterday said they will be working
- 50:01and cooperating with the State Public Service Commission on its general investigation. Now.
- 50:09President Burton said that the finger pointing needs to stop. Well, with all
- 50:17due respect to mister Burton, good luck with that, because that's part of
- 50:22it that's gonna happen. People go to people and people going to talk.
- 50:28Now, mister Burton said as of now, more than two hundred customers have
- 50:35looked into the company's offer to pay up two thousand dollars in damages, and
- 50:40he said so far that twenty six checks have been written for an average of
- 50:46sixteen hundred dollars. Now, the president of Mountaineer Gas said fifteen hundred of
- 50:53the company's twenty one hundred customers on the West Side were impacted. The company
- 50:59is offered a seventy five dollars credit on its latest bill for customers in the
- 51:02impacted area, and as of now, there are two class action lawsuits that
- 51:09have been filed. I mean, you know, and I've said this before,
- 51:15and I'm trying not to be critical of these utility companies, but these
- 51:20companies have to have simply put, as people across the board have said,
- 51:24whether they're elected officials or whether they're just you know, the everyday customer,
- 51:29they've got to have some kind of better alert systems, especially more than going
- 51:32door to door. I mean my hometown, my little old hometown in southern
- 51:37West Virginia, the utility companies offer a texting service, and they have since
- 51:45I worked at the radio station there, and folks, I've been gone from
- 51:49that radio station for ten years. This February, our little smaller utility systems
- 51:55in Logan County, West Virginia offered a texting service. As of about as
- 52:00I said, I've been gone ten years. They started offering this probably two
- 52:04thousand and ten, two thousand and eleven, a direct texting service. When
- 52:06these things happen, it isn't hard do better, do better? Text,
- 52:13says Chris Miller. Will he be doing his own ads like he does for
- 52:15his car dealership. You know that would be hilarious. I don't know.
- 52:17I don't know. We'll talk to Chris Miller about that on the show.
- 52:21To Hey, Dale Miller, thank you so much, Dale, Dale Cooper
- 52:23is wrong. Dale There, Neil Cooper's my producer day. Thank you so
- 52:27much. Dave Wilson. It for Hoppy coming up. I will see you

- 52:58He has arrived. That's a sound of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky being bombarded with
- 53:04questions from reporters as he begins his day of pressing congressional leaders for more funding
- 53:07to fight the war against Russia. He will argue this is life or death
- 53:12for his country, but Republicans have shown no intention of backing off their demands.
- 53:15They are adamant they will not pass any additional funding for the fight in
- 53:20Ukraine without major changes to US immigration policy. Some Republicans even opposed to any
