- 1:23Speaker 4: closer to the weekend, Sonny and seventy five here in
- 1:26Speaker 4: the Capital City. I'm sticking with that until it actually
- 1:29Speaker 4: is actually a little less than that, and we got
- 1:33Speaker 4: more snow as you just heard Jeff Jenkins talking about
- 1:35Speaker 4: on the way for tomorrow. But it's gonna get better
- 1:38Speaker 4: as we head toward next week, way better. In fact,
- 1:40Speaker 4: we're going to talk about that coming up a little

- 2:00Speaker 4: want to miss, mainly because it has the words beach
- 2:03Speaker 4: in the title. It's their annual beach party and Embassy
- 2:06Speaker 4: Suites and Charleston, February twenty eighth, here to talk about
- 2:08Speaker 4: the Quarterback Club of Charleston. President Robert stone Street, Good morning, sir,
- 2:12Speaker 4: and welcome to the show.
- 2:13Speaker 5: Good morning, Dave. Thanks for having me.
- 2:15Speaker 4: You had me at beach, my friend, Yeah, you had
- 2:17Speaker 4: me at beach. Do you know actually if you look
- 2:21Speaker 4: at the and this is what happens when they put
- 2:22Speaker 4: meteorologist Brian Hughes's office or his desk too close to mind.
- 2:26Speaker 4: We talk about the weather a lot this We've actually
- 2:29Speaker 4: had less snow than what we normally have. We're actually
- 2:32Speaker 4: below average for the month of January. It's just the
- 2:35Speaker 4: snow that we've had has stuck around forever. So while
- 2:39Speaker 4: this seems like it's been an incredibly harsh winter based
- 2:43Speaker 4: on the numbers, it's actually been a little bit less
- 2:46Speaker 4: than what we've had.
- 2:48Speaker 5: So that is hard to believe.
- 2:49Speaker 4: You can go with that if you want to, you
- 2:51Speaker 4: can go with that, all right. This is a big
- 2:55Speaker 4: beach party is happening twenty eighth at the Embassy Suites
- 2:57Speaker 4: here and Charleston always always a great time and no
- 3:00Speaker 4: matter what kind of winter we've had, it always puts
- 3:02Speaker 4: people in a good mood in February when they can
- 3:04Speaker 4: talk about, you know, things related to beach and have
- 3:08Speaker 4: on loud Hawaiian shirts looking at you, Steve Animal and
- 3:12Speaker 4: we have a lot of fun with it. But you
- 3:13Speaker 4: know it is a fundraiser for marsh University through the
- 3:16Speaker 4: Quarterback Club at Charleston. Tell us about the Marsh University
- 3:19Speaker 4: Quarterback Club.
- 3:20Speaker 6: Well, the Quarterback Club's a booster club for the Big
- 3:23Speaker 6: Green and our primary goal is to raise money for
- 3:26Speaker 6: the football program, but we raised money for the Big
- 3:29Speaker 6: Green Scholarship Foundation in general. We have two events a year,
- 3:32Speaker 6: Paint the Capitol Green in August, which is up at
- 3:34Speaker 6: the bill Noo Flight School at the airport, and then
- 3:37Speaker 6: now we're having our winter event. Used to be a
- 3:40Speaker 6: Valentine's theme. We changed it up last year to go
- 3:43Speaker 6: with beach theme and seemed to be a hit. The
- 3:46Speaker 6: attire used to be formal, now it's beach attire, whatever
- 3:49Speaker 6: that means to you. Yes, and we've got live auction
- 3:53Speaker 6: this year. We're going to have a Jimmy Buffett tribute
- 3:56Speaker 6: artist Jim Snyder is going to be there strumming the
- 3:59Speaker 6: guitar awesome, having some margueritaville and boat drinks fun and
- 4:05Speaker 6: then we've always I have great silent auction items, tropical
- 4:09Speaker 6: theme dinner, great drinks and just a great time.
- 4:14Speaker 5: Head coach Tony Gibson is going to be there.
- 4:17Speaker 6: Give a shout out to Astorgato, who's our title sponsor,
- 4:20Speaker 6: longtime supporter of this event.
- 4:22Speaker 5: Very much appreciate them.
- 4:24Speaker 6: But it's a wonderful event and I would encourage uh
- 4:28Speaker 6: Marshall fans and non Marshall fans and come on down.
- 4:31Speaker 4: It's a great, big old party, that's what it is.
- 4:33Speaker 4: And I have said this before. You and I are
- 4:34Speaker 4: both Marshall guys, but I have attended over the years
- 4:38Speaker 4: even when I didn't have to be there, covering a
- 4:39Speaker 4: lot of WVU events as well. You can't. We would
- 4:42Speaker 4: like to have a little fun between the two universities,
- 4:44Speaker 4: but you can support both. And I know there's a
- 4:47Speaker 4: lot of people that in the past have been at
- 4:49Speaker 4: the Painted Capital City Green event or at this event,
- 4:52Speaker 4: your beach party at Embassy Suites. A lot of same
- 4:55Speaker 4: people come down when we do things for the Mountaineers,
- 4:57Speaker 4: you know, inside the huddle. Obviously, we were just joking
- 4:59Speaker 4: with our good friend Tom Peyton out in the hall
- 5:01Speaker 4: just now, who is rocking the WVU hoodie, And I
- 5:04Speaker 4: told him, I said, we're gonna have to change that
- 5:06Speaker 4: and get you a Marshall And I got Marshall stuff too.
- 5:08Speaker 4: My point is is you can support both.
- 5:11Speaker 6: You can, and I am a proud graduate of both
- 5:13Speaker 6: schools okatain Marshall as an undergrad and went to grad
- 5:17Speaker 6: school in Morgantown.
- 5:18Speaker 4: I want to talk about the auction items. We don't
- 5:21Speaker 4: need to necessarily get specific unless you have a specific list,
- 5:24Speaker 4: because I know they're still being gathered. But what give
- 5:26Speaker 4: us an example over of some of the things that
- 5:28Speaker 4: maybe even you've had in the past that you might have.
- 5:30Speaker 6: Sure one of the more popular things we've had on
- 5:32Speaker 6: the silent auction side has been coach's sideline gear, so
- 5:36Speaker 6: you can you can bid on the attire that the
- 5:40Speaker 6: coaches wear on the sideline. We often will have memorabilia
- 5:45Speaker 6: from different events, signed photographs, signed jerseys from popular players,
- 5:52Speaker 6: and then we have a live auction and there's usually
- 5:54Speaker 6: some really great trips with the team that go there.
- 5:59Speaker 6: Opportunities spend time with the coaches. I mean, I know
- 6:01Speaker 6: we have a trip to Penn State scheduled in the
- 6:05Speaker 6: fall here and then in a couple of years we're
- 6:08Speaker 6: going down to Tuscaloosa for a game. And I don't
- 6:11Speaker 6: have any specific items that might be available, but those
- 6:14Speaker 6: are the types of events.
- 6:16Speaker 4: Just a general idea and all in all. Robert again,
- 6:18Speaker 4: we're talking with Robert stone Street from marsh University Quarterback
- 6:21Speaker 4: Club at Charleston.
- 6:22Speaker 2: It is.
- 6:23Speaker 4: It's just a big fun party. I mean, as you said,
- 6:25Speaker 4: we got Jimmy Buffett style music. We always have great food.
- 6:28Speaker 4: The folks at Embassy just knock it out of the
- 6:30Speaker 4: park with beach related foods and your boat drinks and
- 6:35Speaker 4: things of that nature. It's just all in all, it's
- 6:37Speaker 4: just a good time in the middle of winter.
- 6:40Speaker 6: It is tropical themed, great decoration. Our committee does a
- 6:44Speaker 6: great job decorating the ballroom there and it is just
- 6:49Speaker 6: a really good evening, good people and good time.
- 6:52Speaker 4: Oh yeah, absolutely. Talking to Robert stone Street again from
- 6:54Speaker 4: the Marshall University Quarterback Club about the beach event happening
- 6:57Speaker 4: the Big Beach Parties the twenty eighth of this month
- 6:59Speaker 4: at Embassy Suite and Charleston Dave Island Show in five

- 7:25Speaker 4: you get the You get the pleasure of knowing that
- 7:28Speaker 4: your entertainment for the evening, in addition to the buffet
- 7:31Speaker 4: tribute is me and Steve Animal. What more could you want?
- 7:35Speaker 7: Right?
- 7:36Speaker 5: That's right?
- 7:39Speaker 4: That'll bring them through the door.
- 7:40Speaker 5: Sure that that's a great draw, dam Sure it is,
- 7:44Speaker 5: Sure it is.
- 7:45Speaker 4: But if people want to get individual tickets or they
- 7:49Speaker 4: want to talk about sponsorship. You mentioned folks at Astorgato
- 7:52Speaker 4: who just go above and beyond for this, But there's
- 7:54Speaker 4: still other sponsorship of opportunities available. You got people can
- 7:59Speaker 4: buy takes, they can buy individual tickets. What's what's a
- 8:02Speaker 4: table cost? If somebody want to buy a table.
- 8:04Speaker 5: There's two tables.
- 8:05Speaker 6: There's a white table which is two thousand dollars, and
- 8:08Speaker 6: then there's a Green table which is thirty five hundred.
- 8:10Speaker 6: Each of them have ten seats each come with complimentary beer, wine,
- 8:14Speaker 6: soft drinks, boat drinks. There is an additional benefit to
- 8:18Speaker 6: the Green sponsors. They get a couple of premium tickets
- 8:21Speaker 6: to a football game in the fall, and the individual
- 8:23Speaker 6: tickets are one hundred and seventy five dollars.
- 8:25Speaker 4: Okay, And so we throw that out there right now,
- 8:27Speaker 4: because you business folks right now that are listening, you
- 8:30Speaker 4: talk about a great way to impress some clients. You
- 8:32Speaker 4: buy a table, and then you know telling you how
- 8:34Speaker 4: to do your job. Here you pick up the phone,
- 8:36Speaker 4: you call and say, hey, we just happen to have
- 8:37Speaker 4: these tickets. Would you like to Can we see that
- 8:39Speaker 4: happen a lot?
- 8:40Speaker 6: We do, and this event typically sells out. There are
- 8:44Speaker 6: tickets and tables available now, but as we get closer,
- 8:47Speaker 6: we do typically sell out the ballroom. So if you're interested,
- 8:52Speaker 6: you can go to herd zone dot com under tickets
- 8:55Speaker 6: and there you'll see big Green events and there's a
- 8:58Speaker 6: there's a link for the Beach part and you can
- 9:00Speaker 6: buy your buy everything online, or if you're not a
- 9:03Speaker 6: fan of that, you can email the Big Green at
- 9:05Speaker 6: Big Green at Marshall dot edu.
- 9:08Speaker 4: Okay, and again, get your tickets now because this event,
- 9:10Speaker 4: just like the Paint the Capital City Green event that
- 9:12Speaker 4: happens every August, this event typically does sell out. And
- 9:15Speaker 4: again it's just a good time. And if you saw
- 9:21Speaker 4: the weather of the last couple of weeks, even going
- 9:22Speaker 4: down to the beach, you know, going down to Myrtle
- 9:24Speaker 4: Beach or whatever. I mean, one of my favorite places
- 9:27Speaker 4: to go in the world is Saint Simon's Island in Georgia,
- 9:30Speaker 4: and Saint Simon's had snow, So the beach is not
- 9:33Speaker 4: always the ultimate getaway. But we can bring some of
- 9:35Speaker 4: the beach to you here in Charleston. And again it's
- 9:37Speaker 4: not a formal event by any stretch of the imagination.
- 9:40Speaker 4: We want you to come with here Hawaiian shirts on,
- 9:43Speaker 4: or if you just want to wear your Marshall gear
- 9:44Speaker 4: that's fine too, absolutely, yes, all right, Robert. The event
- 9:48Speaker 4: is February the twenty eighth at Embassy Suites in Charleston.
- 9:52Speaker 4: A big shout out to Astorgatto again for being the
- 9:54Speaker 4: presiding sponsor events. It's the annual Marshall University Quarterback Club
- 9:59Speaker 4: of Charleston's Beach Party February twenty eighth, Embassy Suites in Charleston.
- 10:03Speaker 4: Give us the contact information again for business owners if
- 10:06Speaker 4: they'd like to sponsor a table or ticket sales, give

- 10:26Speaker 4: All right, And if people want to get involved with
- 10:28Speaker 4: the organization the marsh University Quarterback Club at Charleston. I
- 10:30Speaker 4: probably need to mention that you talked about some of
- 10:32Speaker 4: the things that you do. You're always having alumni events
- 10:34Speaker 4: and things of that and the people or you know,
- 10:36Speaker 4: events just for people that are fans of the Marshall
- 10:38Speaker 4: Thunder and heard give us a little bit on the
- 10:40Speaker 4: I know there's a Facebook page for the for the
- 10:42Speaker 4: marsh University Quarterback Club at Charleston.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Talk.
- 10:44Speaker 5: We do have a Facebook page.
- 10:45Speaker 6: You can reach out to us there or if you

- 10:50Speaker 6: Edu and just tell them you're interested in the Quarterback Club.
- 10:53Speaker 5: I'd be happy to reach out to you.
- 10:54Speaker 6: We would welcome folks helping us out and getting involved
- 10:59Speaker 6: to help support the university and the football team.
- 11:02Speaker 4: And then I mentioned that Steve Animal myself are going
- 11:04Speaker 4: to be the MC's.
- 11:05Speaker 5: And I'm so excited and a little nervous.
- 11:07Speaker 4: And a little well, we've done it in the past,
- 11:10Speaker 4: you have, I mean, have we ever?
- 11:11Speaker 5: Have we ever let you? You have never let us down?
- 11:14Speaker 4: Okay, that's that's a relative term though.
- 11:15Speaker 5: Well you got where you set the bar.

- 16:13Speaker 12: like the community here in Charleston. The people here are
- 16:16Speaker 12: so warm, they're welcoming, and you know, in times of
- 16:21Speaker 12: trouble and adversity, I've never seen a community come together
- 16:25Speaker 12: like the community here in Charleston. And I think it
- 16:29Speaker 12: has a lot to do with the values that were
- 16:31Speaker 12: brought up with here in Charleston, and those values are
- 16:34Speaker 12: what I bring I think I bring to my campaign
- 16:38Speaker 12: for city council.
- 16:39Speaker 4: Now, as you said, you are a native Charlestonian, so
- 16:42Speaker 4: you've been around here, you've gone to other places, and
- 16:45Speaker 4: you've come back. How do we get more people to
- 16:49Speaker 4: want to do what you did? Maybe go away, travel
- 16:51Speaker 4: a little bit and then come back, or how do
- 16:53Speaker 4: we attract people to Charleston I'm talking about in the
- 16:57Speaker 4: to to want to live within the city of Charleston.
- 16:59Speaker 4: What do we to do to attract them? To attract business?
- 17:02Speaker 12: What's your plan that's a wonderful question. So actually my
- 17:06Speaker 12: campaign platform directly addresses this. So I feel that there
- 17:10Speaker 12: are three strategies that we can take to keep people
- 17:15Speaker 12: here and to attract people. One is diversifying our economy
- 17:19Speaker 12: here in Charleston. I think the mayor has done an
- 17:22Speaker 12: amazing job of expanding our tourism industry. I think we
- 17:25Speaker 12: could expand it even further. Same with arts and culture.
- 17:29Speaker 12: Here we have in Charleston these amazing artists and artisans.
- 17:34Speaker 12: We could build an economy just from that. And so
- 17:38Speaker 12: that's one strategy. The other strategy is education. I'm a teacher, obviously,
- 17:44Speaker 12: so this is a big one for me. Strengthening our
- 17:47Speaker 12: schools is very important, but I think also providing adult
- 17:51Speaker 12: education programming that's accessible, that makes sense with people's schedules,
- 17:56Speaker 12: and that can teach them skills in case they want
- 17:59Speaker 12: to change a career. For example, are senior folks that
- 18:03Speaker 12: live here in Charleston. A lot of them are working
- 18:06Speaker 12: well into their seventies and eighties. My dad, he's seventy six.
- 18:09Speaker 12: He's still working, right, But we need to give them
- 18:13Speaker 12: the skills in education that they need to get the
- 18:16Speaker 12: jobs that are available. And then the third thing I
- 18:19Speaker 12: think that could attract and keep people here is quality
- 18:24Speaker 12: of life. And that can look like a lot of
- 18:26Speaker 12: different things. But the issue that I think is most
- 18:30Speaker 12: important to quality of life, an issue that is very
- 18:33Speaker 12: important to me is childcare. Finding a way to build
- 18:37Speaker 12: that into our infrastructure so that more people can go
- 18:41Speaker 12: to work, so that children are getting their early education
- 18:45Speaker 12: development needs met, and yeah, just to give parents out
- 18:52Speaker 12: there more support in these kind of chaotic at times times.
- 18:58Speaker 4: You mentioned that you were and again we're talking and
- 19:00Speaker 4: Kitty Lindsay, who's a candidate for Charleston City Council at
- 19:02Speaker 4: large seat. You mentioned you were a teacher or a teacher.
- 19:05Speaker 4: What do you think that you learned as a teacher
- 19:07Speaker 4: that you think will translate into a role in city government,
- 19:11Speaker 4: specifically city council.
- 19:13Speaker 12: So there are a couple of things. One is patience.
- 19:17Speaker 4: That's a given if you're a teacher.
- 19:19Speaker 12: I think it's a given if you're a lawmaker as well,
- 19:22Speaker 12: no matter what level that you're on. So patience is
- 19:25Speaker 12: a big one. And I think as well, you know,
- 19:30Speaker 12: sometimes when we know concepts so well, we can talk
- 19:34Speaker 12: about them in ways that aren't helpful to people who
- 19:38Speaker 12: aren't familiar with the concepts. So as a teacher, you
- 19:43Speaker 12: learn how important it is to break concepts down into
- 19:48Speaker 12: easily digestible, understandable parts, and then over time you build
- 19:53Speaker 12: on that. And so I would really love I try
- 19:58Speaker 12: in all of my inter actions with people to meet
- 20:02Speaker 12: them where they are.
- 20:04Speaker 13: You know what I mean.
- 20:04Speaker 12: You can't just jump into big topic if the person
- 20:09Speaker 12: has no previous experience in that topic. So really talking
- 20:14Speaker 12: to people, meeting them where they are, asking them also
- 20:18Speaker 12: what their needs are, and then over time, building building
- 20:23Speaker 12: building on top of that, so that eventually this is
- 20:27Speaker 12: where the patience comes in. Eventually we can meet our goals.
- 20:31Speaker 4: With everything that you have done in your life, Why
- 20:35Speaker 4: what went into your decision to want to be on
- 20:37Speaker 4: city council? Because I mean, obviously you've did this is
- 20:41Speaker 4: and when you're a city council person in the largest
- 20:43Speaker 4: city in West Virginia, the capital city, a lot of
- 20:45Speaker 4: demands will be on your time and so on and
- 20:47Speaker 4: so forth. What was it that led to your decision
- 20:50Speaker 4: to run for city council?
- 20:51Speaker 12: Yes, great question. So I think most people are familiar
- 20:57Speaker 12: with my family. If there was one word that I
- 21:01Speaker 12: could use to kind of sum up what my family
- 21:05Speaker 12: is about I would say it's service right from my parents,
- 21:09Speaker 12: who have worked in the community in a countless different
- 21:14Speaker 12: ways as attorneys, of course, but also one time they
- 21:17Speaker 12: were talk show hosts that educated the public on certain issues.
- 21:21Speaker 12: They also have a nonprofit that provides shoes for needy
- 21:25Speaker 12: school children. So I was raised in that environment. And
- 21:30Speaker 12: then now my brothers, they're all lawyers. My eldest brother
- 21:34Speaker 12: he works in the US Attorney's office here in West Virginia.
- 21:38Speaker 12: And then you know, my brother Rich obviously served in
- 21:43Speaker 12: the legislature and he's.
- 21:44Speaker 5: Now a judge.
- 21:45Speaker 12: So this is kind of in our DNA, right. We
- 21:48Speaker 12: just have this. We're just compelled to serve the public.
- 21:53Speaker 12: And that is very much the place that I come from,
- 21:57Speaker 12: and so that's what I see as the job of
- 22:03Speaker 12: a city council person. We are there to serve the
- 22:06Speaker 12: people of Charleston. And my hope is that this people
- 22:10Speaker 12: of Charleston give me the opportunity to do that because
- 22:14Speaker 12: I love them so much, and I love this city
- 22:16Speaker 12: so much, and I see we've already done great things.
- 22:21Speaker 12: We can do even greater things.
- 22:24Speaker 4: Current you were talking with Kitty Lindsay, who is a
- 22:26Speaker 4: Council of Candidate at Large bid here in the City
- 22:29Speaker 4: of Charleston. Give it up on nine to thirty of
- 22:30Speaker 4: The Dave Allen Show and five eighty live broad to
- 22:32Speaker 4: You amparted by a Bridge Valley Community and Technical College.
- 22:35Speaker 4: Visit Bridge Valley dot edu Bridge Valley Community Technical College.
- 22:38Speaker 4: Your career starts here. You talked about some of the
- 22:39Speaker 4: things Charleston has going forward. Of course you mentioned the people,
- 22:42Speaker 4: but also the other things like, you know, Regatta's back
- 22:45Speaker 4: now we have the bike event that brings people from
- 22:49Speaker 4: all over the world. And you think about some of
- 22:51Speaker 4: the other highlights of Charleston, things like Capital Market and
- 22:54Speaker 4: the baseball team and just and the you know, downtown,
- 22:58Speaker 4: the businesses and so on. So a great things going on.
- 23:00Speaker 4: But one of the things that's been on a lot
- 23:02Speaker 4: of people's mind over the last couple of years is
- 23:04Speaker 4: the Charlestontown Center Mall. Now, you being a native Charlestonian,
- 23:09Speaker 4: you can remember. I'm not a native Charlestonian, but I
- 23:11Speaker 4: can remember coming to the Town Center of the nineteen
- 23:13Speaker 4: eighties and nineties and when it was at its heyday
- 23:15Speaker 4: with all the stores and so on and so forth.
- 23:18Speaker 4: The group that owns it now, not casting shade on them,
- 23:23Speaker 4: but they've got a different model, okay, and it doesn't
- 23:25Speaker 4: appear to be doing a whole lot with the Town Center.
- 23:27Speaker 4: The City of Charleston Mayor Goodwin on the show and
- 23:30Speaker 4: others have said, look, we want to have we want
- 23:32Speaker 4: to enter into negotiations to possibly look at at least
- 23:35Speaker 4: taking over the Town Center if that were to happen.
- 23:39Speaker 4: You and I know you're one of several people on
- 23:41Speaker 4: city Council if you're elected, But if that were to happen,
- 23:43Speaker 4: what do you think should happen with the Town Center Mall?
- 23:45Speaker 12: Yes, this is something that is on every Charlestonian's.
- 23:50Speaker 4: Mind and that people outside Charlestown.
- 23:52Speaker 12: Yes, absolutely, And I just want to say there was
- 23:56Speaker 12: nothing like the Charlestontown Center Mall back in the day.
- 23:59Speaker 12: It was incredible. The food court I live, it's amazing.
- 24:04Speaker 13: But now, so I.
- 24:06Speaker 12: Talked about childcare. This is an important issue for me
- 24:10Speaker 12: because when I was growing up, both my parents worked
- 24:13Speaker 12: and that was made possible by my grandmother. My grandmother,
- 24:18Speaker 12: she was always at our house when we got home
- 24:21Speaker 12: from school. She made dinner, she made sure that our
- 24:26Speaker 12: clothes were clean. All of these things while my parents worked,
- 24:29Speaker 12: I'm very privileged. Most people they don't have that person
- 24:33Speaker 12: in their life right, and they may not be able
- 24:36Speaker 12: to afford to hire somebody to do those things. So
- 24:40Speaker 12: for me, this issue is personal because I've benefited so
- 24:43Speaker 12: much from that experience. I know that everybody is deserving
- 24:47Speaker 12: of that experience of having that part of their lives
- 24:52Speaker 12: taken care of.
- 24:53Speaker 1: And so.
- 24:55Speaker 12: My idea about child care is to make it kind
- 24:59Speaker 12: of position it as a public good, kind of like
- 25:01Speaker 12: the library. Right have affordable childcare that's accessible to everybody.
- 25:06Speaker 12: And one thing that I've been kind of kicking around
- 25:09Speaker 12: in my brain is using part of the Town Center
- 25:12Speaker 12: Mall as a childcare center. And one reason why I
- 25:17Speaker 12: think this would be ideal is because it's located right
- 25:21Speaker 12: in downtown. So everybody that works downtown. You have hospitals downtown,
- 25:26Speaker 12: you have retail, you have everything. It would be so
- 25:30Speaker 12: easy for them to just be able to drop their
- 25:32Speaker 12: children off in the morning, pick them up at whatever
- 25:35Speaker 12: time is convenient for them. I'm not saying the whole
- 25:39Speaker 12: mall has to be this, but definitely a dedicated space
- 25:43Speaker 12: for a childcare center I think would be amazing. And
- 25:46Speaker 12: then all of the other spaces in the mall would
- 25:52Speaker 12: support kind of those same ideas of community and mutual
- 25:57Speaker 12: aid and care.
- 25:59Speaker 4: Don with Kitty Lindsay again, who's a candidate for Charleston
- 26:01Speaker 4: City Council. So, how do you plan on campaigning? I mean,
- 26:05Speaker 4: you're on this show, but I mean I know you're
- 26:06Speaker 4: going to be doing other things. Are you going door
- 26:08Speaker 4: to door? You're going to meet you know what? What's
- 26:10Speaker 4: your plan?
- 26:11Speaker 12: I am going door to door. I haven't started.
- 26:14Speaker 4: There's a lot of doors in the city of Charleston,
- 26:16Speaker 4: hit so many doors.
- 26:17Speaker 12: But you know what, I take this after my brother.
- 26:20Speaker 12: I think my brother Rich. We love people. We love people,
- 26:26Speaker 12: we love talking to people, we love listening to their stories.
- 26:29Speaker 12: And so for me, going door to door is a
- 26:32Speaker 12: really exciting thing because I get to, you know, meet
- 26:35Speaker 12: these people face to face and talk about issues that
- 26:39Speaker 12: they care about. And you know, as far as the
- 26:43Speaker 12: rest of my campaign, I'm really just trying to show
- 26:48Speaker 12: up as Charlestonians do for issues that I care about,
- 26:52Speaker 12: particularly around issues impacting women, to community events, community meetings groups,
- 26:58Speaker 12: and I find that I meet so many people that way.
- 27:02Speaker 12: It helps that we have interests in common. And yeah,
- 27:10Speaker 12: that's that's really what I'm trying to do. And oh
- 27:14Speaker 12: as well cultural events, arts and culture. So I don't
- 27:17Speaker 12: know if you know this, Dave, but I come from
- 27:19Speaker 12: a theater background and I've actually done a lot of
- 27:22Speaker 12: work with Charleston Light Opera GILD, and I'm a big
- 27:25Speaker 12: believer in if you love the arts, supporting local artists
- 27:31Speaker 12: and local companies that are creating art and Charleson Light
- 27:35Speaker 12: Opera GILD obviously like the Charleston Light Opera GILD. So
- 27:40Speaker 12: also going to these events and supporting local artists. Uh,
- 27:44Speaker 12: that's another I consider it a campaign perk because these
- 27:48Speaker 12: things are things that I would be doing anyway at it,
- 27:52Speaker 12: but it's just helpful to talk to some of the
- 27:56Speaker 12: patrons of these arts as well.
- 27:58Speaker 4: Where can people learn more about your campaign? You have
- 28:00Speaker 4: a social media website? Anything you want to throw out there.
- 28:03Speaker 12: Yes, I have a website. The website is Kitty for
- 28:07Speaker 12: Citycouncil dot com. I also have a Facebook page Kitty
- 28:12Speaker 12: Lindsay for City Council. I want to mention too, Dave,
- 28:16Speaker 12: that I have a Meet and Greek, My first Meet
- 28:18Speaker 12: and Greek coming up on February nineteenth at my favorite
- 28:22Speaker 12: place in Charleston Taylor Books in the art gallery. It's free,
- 28:26Speaker 12: there's food. I'd love for people to come so that
- 28:29Speaker 12: we can meet and Canny.
- 28:30Speaker 4: What time is that going to be?
- 28:32Speaker 12: Five thirty to seven.
- 28:33Speaker 4: Thirty thirty seven thirty A Taylor Books Downtown Charleston on
- 28:36Speaker 4: February the eighteenth, nineteen nineteenth. I'm sorry, nineteenth. That's important, Dave.
- 28:41Speaker 4: They get the date right, February nineth Debruary eighteenth. You
- 28:44Speaker 4: can show up Taylor Books, would like it, but you
- 28:45Speaker 4: won't be there February the nineteenth. So, Katy's been a
- 28:50Speaker 4: pleasure to get you to know you on the show today.
- 28:51Speaker 4: I'll give you the final thirty, as I do with
- 28:53Speaker 4: every canaida I have. On final thirty? Why should someone
- 28:56Speaker 4: vote for Kitty Lindsay for Charleston City Council?
- 28:58Speaker 12: Great? So my campaign slogan is Charleston Values Leadership for Today,
- 29:05Speaker 12: and I chose this slogan. I wrote it myself because
- 29:09Speaker 12: I feel that I bring a fresh perspective that is
- 29:12Speaker 12: much needed here in Charleston. As I said, I've traveled
- 29:16Speaker 12: a lot. I've seen what is possible in cities all
- 29:22Speaker 12: over the world, about what is possible on the municipal
- 29:24Speaker 12: level as far as what kind of change we can make,
- 29:27Speaker 12: and so I bring that experience and that insight. But
- 29:31Speaker 12: everything that I'm doing, as I said at the top
- 29:34Speaker 12: of our talk, everything I'm doing is rooted in Charleston
- 29:38Speaker 12: values of community service and helping your neighbor. So I
- 29:43Speaker 12: hope Charlestonians will give me an opportunity to serve them
- 29:47Speaker 12: as Charleston City Council at Large member.
- 29:51Speaker 4: Kitty Lindsey, candidate for Charleston City Council at Large. Bit,

- 34:15Speaker 4: the story that on Sunday was dropped off to the
- 34:18Speaker 4: Canal tarust Numane Association and the dog had apparently been
- 34:23Speaker 4: shot at least twice, possibly run over with a car.
- 34:27Speaker 4: The dog. Somebody brought the dog in to the shelter,
- 34:31Speaker 4: just dropped it off, did not stick around. The person
- 34:34Speaker 4: did not to stick around for a name or anything
- 34:37Speaker 4: like that. The dog was about to go was in
- 34:40Speaker 4: the process of undergoing some medical procedures and unfortunately he
- 34:45Speaker 4: had a medical emergency and there was no his in
- 34:48Speaker 4: words of Aangie, his his body basically gave out on
- 34:51Speaker 4: him and there was nothing that they could do. So
- 34:54Speaker 4: they were forced to euthanize the dog. And so the
- 34:57Speaker 4: investigation into what happened to that dog continue news and
- 35:01Speaker 4: so we are going to talk to Angie about that
- 35:03Speaker 4: coming up on the show tomorrow. Also, Rick Cabinet from
- 35:05Speaker 4: Charleston Urban Works will stop by, and Taylor Gow from
- 35:08Speaker 4: the Clay Center is on the show tomorrow as well.
- 35:11Speaker 4: Later Today, Metro News Midday presented by Selang Golau. No
- 35:14Speaker 4: Amanda baron today or tomorrow. She's off a couple of days.
- 35:18Speaker 4: Amanda will return on Monday. On the show today, Jeff Jenkins,
- 35:21Speaker 4: we'll get it's caught up on the news. We're gonna
- 35:23Speaker 4: get a visit from Dave Weekly. Dave's got a commentary
- 35:27Speaker 4: as it pertains to the super Bowl, and not only
- 35:31Speaker 4: just the Super Bowl, but also West Virginia ties to
- 35:34Speaker 4: the Super Bowl. And I will say this, I will
- 35:36Speaker 4: go on record as saying that when mister Weekly came
- 35:41Speaker 4: in just before Hotline yesterday and he and I were
- 35:43Speaker 4: talking off the air and I asked him to come
- 35:46Speaker 4: on the show today to talk about its commentary, which
- 35:47Speaker 4: I didn't know what the commentary was at the time.
- 35:50Speaker 4: He asked me a question, and you can ask mister Weekly.
- 35:54Speaker 4: I hope you mentioned on there. I got it right,
- 35:57Speaker 4: and I don't want to spoil it, but it had
- 35:59Speaker 4: it pertained to a player from WVU or Marshall that
- 36:04Speaker 4: has appeared in the most Super Bowls.
- 36:06Speaker 5: I got it.
- 36:08Speaker 4: Straight out the gate, just saying, just saying, I get there.
- 36:11Speaker 4: We'll talk to Weekly about that coming up on the
- 36:13Speaker 4: show today. Oh look here, Dave Wilson is going to
- 36:17Speaker 4: be on the show today. It's always fun when Northern
- 36:20Speaker 4: Dave and Southern Dave get together to continue our ongoing rivalry.
- 36:24Speaker 4: Wilson is of course. He and Meadows are up at
- 36:26Speaker 4: the Capitol and they'll have talk line coming up live
- 36:29Speaker 4: at ten oh six. But afterwards they're coming by here
- 36:33Speaker 4: and I figured when they said they were coming by
- 36:35Speaker 4: there had to be food here, and there is, so
- 36:38Speaker 4: Wilson and I are going to go at it today.
- 36:40Speaker 4: I've blocked off two segments Ryan for the battle between
- 36:43Speaker 4: the two Daves today, just so you know. Wilson Meadows
- 36:46Speaker 4: North versus South. Slaw on hot dogs versus No slaw
- 36:50Speaker 4: on hot dogs. You know that whole thing. So Wilson's
- 36:52Speaker 4: going to be on the show today. That should be fun.
- 36:54Speaker 4: Michael Bayless, you may have heard this on our news
- 36:57Speaker 4: this one of your right it on the webs that
- 36:58Speaker 4: Michael bayliss Us Marshall for the Southern District, frequent guests
- 37:01Speaker 4: to our shows, he is retiring. He's going to join
- 37:04Speaker 4: us on the show today. Also, Lori Cursey from West
- 37:06Speaker 4: Virginia watch will stop by. And there have been lots
- 37:09Speaker 4: of changes in the world of media. You don't need
- 37:11Speaker 4: me to tell you that over the last ten years,
- 37:13Speaker 4: but even over the last six months to a year,
- 37:14Speaker 4: a lot of changes. You may have heard this. The
- 37:17Speaker 4: Washington Post newspaper has massive layoffs going on. I mean,
- 37:22Speaker 4: they're pretty much decimating their sports department at the Post.
- 37:26Speaker 4: And if you know anything, if you follow sports pages,
- 37:28Speaker 4: I'm kind of a geek about those sorts of things,
- 37:30Speaker 4: follows sports pages. Washington Post sports page at one time
- 37:35Speaker 4: was second to none. Well it's no more. So we
- 37:38Speaker 4: are going to kind of get a little take on
- 37:41Speaker 4: the ever changing world of media and the landscape of media.
- 37:46Speaker 4: Burke Allen good friend Alan Media Strategies, which by the
- 37:49Speaker 4: way is based in DC, is going to join us
- 37:51Speaker 4: on the showday and of course Open Line West Virginia
- 37:53Speaker 4: Metric News Midday brought to you by Solango Law again
- 37:55Speaker 4: to Amanda bearon today or tomorrow, just me finding soda
- 37:58Speaker 4: for the next couple of days. Ab will be back
- 37:59Speaker 4: on Monday. As I mentioned, Wilson Meadows are alive at
- 38:02Speaker 4: the Capitol coming up at ten oh six this morning.
- 38:04Speaker 4: We'll check in with them a little bit later on
- 38:05Speaker 4: in the show. Also on Talkline, I will go ahead
- 38:08Speaker 4: and mentioned this. Senator Shelley Moore Capito is going to
- 38:11Speaker 4: be on the show today and a big announcement from
- 38:13Speaker 4: the folks at AARP. They got a press event going
- 38:16Speaker 4: on at the Capitol a little bit later on, So
- 38:18Speaker 4: Wilson Meadows are going to talk to those folks coming
- 38:20Speaker 4: up at ten six. Text says Dave. If you haven't
- 38:28Speaker 4: read anything or know anything about any issue, then you
- 38:30Speaker 4: cannot refer to what you were told via hear says facts. Well,
- 38:35Speaker 4: I guess that was in reference to the number of
- 38:38Speaker 4: times that the Texter said that that Donald Trump was
- 38:42Speaker 4: mentioned in the Epstein file more that says the texture
- 38:45Speaker 4: than Harry Potter is mentioned. Harry Potter. Again, I don't
- 38:47Speaker 4: know that for a fact. I'm just stating what the
- 38:50Speaker 4: texter said. That's kind of.
- 38:54Speaker 11: What we do.
- 38:56Speaker 4: Speaking of a talk line, boys today, one of the
- 38:59Speaker 4: things are going to talk about on the top of
- 39:01Speaker 4: the show, and this was very interesting to me, is
- 39:04Speaker 4: a Senate resolution from Senator Rupee Phillips, Republican from the
- 39:11Speaker 4: seventh District. And this one could ruffle a few feathers.
- 39:16Speaker 4: Let's face him, he's just doing this to take a
- 39:22Speaker 4: shot or to look to chiy the governor a little bit.
- 39:25Speaker 4: This is a joint resolution that would add a single
- 39:28Speaker 4: line of texts to the state constitution that says, quote,
- 39:34Speaker 4: no person may be elected as or serve as governor
- 39:39Speaker 4: unless that person was born in West Virginia. Now, the
- 39:44Speaker 4: current requirements include being thirty years of age, have resided
- 39:49Speaker 4: in the state for five years, and a citizen that
- 39:54Speaker 4: is eligible to votes. Oh, Rupee, no, I'm a fan
- 40:00Speaker 4: of the governor and Republican. By the way, Rupy Phillips
- 40:03Speaker 4: is a Republican and he's one of the ones under
- 40:08Speaker 4: the dome that frequently refers to the Governor as the
- 40:11Speaker 4: gentleman from New Jersey. Rupee is never at a loss
- 40:15Speaker 4: for words, and I call him that, I probably should
- 40:17Speaker 4: call him Senator Phillips. But I've literally known Senator Rupy
- 40:20Speaker 4: Phillips since we were kids. We grew up together, so
- 40:22Speaker 4: I literally have known him since we were children's But
- 40:27Speaker 4: he's going to join Meadows and Wilson at the top
- 40:30Speaker 4: of the hour ten o six and talk. Looking forward
- 40:32Speaker 4: to hearing what that discussion is going to be like,
- 40:34Speaker 4: and what's behind this resolution, and the fact that it's
- 40:36Speaker 4: being brought by a Republican as Rupy Phillips is chicking
- 40:41Speaker 4: little shots here and Governor Morrissey or as he refers
- 40:44Speaker 4: to him, and some other folks do as well as
- 40:46Speaker 4: gentleman from New Jersey. Twelve minutes away from Tama, Dave

- 47:06Speaker 4: Derrek evans now You Remember Derek evans, January Six, derek
- 47:10Speaker 4: evans who's run for office a couple of. Different, Occasions
- 47:13Speaker 4: look i've had him on the show a couple, of
- 47:15Speaker 4: times but since, that time he seems to be more
- 47:19Speaker 4: interested in doing things or posting things for. Shock value
- 47:22Speaker 4: and the only REASON that i am even bringing this
- 47:27Speaker 4: up is something that was posted by HIM on x
- 47:35Speaker 4: and it seems like the whole social media universe Here
- 47:41Speaker 4: In west virginia is losing their mind over what. He said.
- 47:46Speaker 4: He said AND again i Don't Follow derek EVANS, on
- 47:51Speaker 4: X so I mean i saw it shared by a number.
- 47:54Speaker 4: Of people but if he and did indeed did, say
- 47:57Speaker 4: this he Said that america and this was A quoteote,
- 48:00Speaker 4: he says the best way To save america is the
- 48:02Speaker 4: repeal of The nineteenth amendment quote and that's the amendment
- 48:06Speaker 4: that allowed women to right.
- 48:07Speaker 12: To.
- 48:07Speaker 4: Vote quote women have proven that overall they are too
- 48:11Speaker 4: emotional to make rational. Voting decisions. End, quote now moving
- 48:17Speaker 4: on from the extreme lunacy of, that statement let me
- 48:28Speaker 4: just give you a little bit of. Advice, here okay
- 48:29Speaker 4: this is from your old Buddy. Uncle dave, all right
- 48:33Speaker 4: if you partake in sharing that information as many of
- 48:39Speaker 4: my friends THAT people, i FOLLOW people i, know personally
- 48:42Speaker 4: MANY people i don't on, social media if you, do
- 48:45Speaker 4: that if you continue to oh, my god look what this,
- 48:49Speaker 4: idiot said and that's not me saying that that was
- 48:51Speaker 4: what one quote said from someone on, social media then in,
- 48:58Speaker 4: my opinion what you were doing is you are just
- 49:01Speaker 4: giving in to what, he wants which, is relevancy which
- 49:09Speaker 4: if You Know, derrick evans And again i've interviewed him on.
- 49:11Speaker 4: THE show i interviewed Him after, january SIXTH because i
- 49:14Speaker 4: have a POLICY here i will interview just, about ANYBODY
- 49:17Speaker 4: whether i agree, with HIM whether i, like him don't, like,
- 49:19Speaker 4: him whatever they care enough to. Reach out i'll care
- 49:21Speaker 4: enough to put him on. The air but when you
- 49:24Speaker 4: share these things and it just kicks into gear, everyone's
- 49:30Speaker 4: emotions which, it should it's an. IDIOTIC statement, i mean totally,
- 49:34Speaker 4: idiotic statement an. Offensive statement but he's entitled. To that
- 49:38Speaker 4: I'm A first. Amendment absolutist he's entitled. To that but
- 49:43Speaker 4: when you share it and, you say look at, this
- 49:45Speaker 4: guy you're doing exactly what said, guy want which is look.
- 49:50Speaker 2: At me.
- 49:52Speaker 4: And so my advice to be to you, would, be
- 49:56Speaker 4: again you, didn't Ask but i'm giving you. My advice
- 49:58Speaker 4: my advice to be, would be if you see something
- 50:01Speaker 4: that is, that stupid, that, ludicrous whatever then just let
- 50:06Speaker 4: it go because you are giving in and you're giving
- 50:09Speaker 4: relevancy to something that doesn't deserve relevance in. My opinion
- 50:15Speaker 4: somebody sent me a text here of an ARTICLE From.
- 50:18Speaker 4: Usa today. APPRECIATE that i will try to Read. That
