- 0:02Comments have been coming in since last
- 0:04night saying,
- 0:05I may have been a bit harsh saying
- 0:07that MFC is at risk of becoming
- 0:10irrelevant.
- 0:12I don't think they're the only ones at
- 0:14risk.
- 0:15Let's talk about it next.
- 0:28I love the chase and the hunt and
- 0:29I set the pace when I'm running.
- 0:31I always take what I want and I
- 0:33always give it one hundred.
- 0:34Don't need a bank, no I'm funded.
- 0:36Play the game like it's nothing.
- 0:37I'm always thankful for something.
- 0:38Don't take for granted, stay humble.
- 0:40Now wake up!
- 0:41It's time to look at the enemy.
- 0:44Look in the mirror if he is no
- 0:46friend to me.
- 0:58Could you guys hear the music on the
- 1:00theme song?
- 1:00Because I don't think I could.
- 1:11So anyway, what's going on?
- 1:15You guys having a good day?
- 1:25It is.
- 1:26Everything looks good on your end.
- 1:27Okay.
- 1:28So sorry, I just had to block Frank.
- 1:31I'm just tired of the comments.
- 1:33He's been coming at me for a week
- 1:35nonstop.
- 1:36We're just going to put an end to
- 1:37that.
- 1:41This theme song is banging.
- 1:42I'm glad I found it.
- 1:44It is so good.
- 1:46All right,
- 1:47so before we get into too much stuff,
- 1:51I'm still lamenting over the Penn State
- 1:54stuff and still shocked that they paid
- 1:59fifty million dollars to tell a guy,
- 2:01see ya.
- 2:04And then I'm watching some other stuff and
- 2:09They're going to have to pay more to
- 2:11probably buy the coach they want out of
- 2:15their current contract just to get him to
- 2:18come and not even start paying him the
- 2:22salary they want him to pay.
- 2:24They want to pay him.
- 2:26So,
- 2:26fifty million to tell Franklin to go away.
- 2:29If you're going to go after like Kurt
- 2:31Cignetti or Matt Rule,
- 2:33they're in a current contract.
- 2:34You're going to have to buy that one
- 2:36out.
- 2:37And that's probably, I don't know, twenty,
- 2:40thirty more million.
- 2:41So now eighty million and you don't you
- 2:43haven't even started paying.
- 2:48You haven't even started paying the coach
- 2:51again.
- 2:52It's just crazy.
- 2:55It's just crazy.
- 2:58See him at Texas A&M knows this all
- 2:59too well.
- 3:00Still paying Jimbo.
- 3:01Yeah,
- 3:01I think Jimbo was eighty million like
- 3:04eight.
- 3:04And I was looking at the buyouts of
- 3:06big-time college coaches.
- 3:08James Franklin was ninth on the list on
- 3:10the buyout.
- 3:11There are eight coaches ahead of him that
- 3:14would cost more to buy them out.
- 3:17It is literally insane.
- 3:23Leave Matt Rule alone.
- 3:25That's the name I'm hearing, Travis.
- 3:27I'm sorry.
- 3:28He was a Penn State grad.
- 3:30He is tight with the AD at Penn
- 3:33State.
- 3:33That's what they're saying.
- 3:34I don't know.
- 3:38Really,
- 3:39the coach at Texas A&M I'm hearing on
- 3:41the list, too.
- 3:44But who knows?
- 3:44It's early.
- 3:46We don't know what the season's going to
- 3:47entail.
- 3:52LSU has entered the chat.
- 3:53We are still paying Les Miles,
- 3:55and he was three coaches ago.
- 3:57That's insane.
- 3:59Insane.
- 4:00Can you imagine, though,
- 4:01getting paid fifty million dollars to do
- 4:03nothing?
- 4:05Like we want you to go away.
- 4:06You don't have to do anything.
- 4:11That's crazy.
- 4:16Rules record against ranked teams ain't
- 4:17great.
- 4:18He hasn't really had a great team to
- 4:20do that with.
- 4:22he kind of went to the NFL for
- 4:24a brief time before he could even show
- 4:27what he could do.
- 4:28You're not going to win against ranked
- 4:29teams with Temple.
- 4:32So with the direction Nebraska is going,
- 4:38I wouldn't be surprised if they gave him
- 4:39a new contract to keep him.
- 4:41Probably not.
- 4:43I was listening to an IU grad this
- 4:45morning talking about Cignetti at Indiana.
- 4:50Is that already making more than Franklin
- 4:52was at Penn state at Indiana because
- 4:54they've been trying to keep him.
- 4:56And now if Penn state comes after him,
- 4:58they're probably going to give him another
- 5:00raise just to keep him.
- 5:02It is the amount of money that is
- 5:04floating around college sports right now
- 5:06is insane.
- 5:07insane it is getting crazier than the nfl
- 5:11at least there they are pro athletes it
- 5:14is a these are billionaires playing
- 5:17against billionaires now you're talking
- 5:19about the educational system throwing away
- 5:23tens of millions of dollars every year it
- 5:26is it is pure insanity pure insanity
- 5:34Coach O gets O-drawn.
- 5:37Had the best response to a seventeen
- 5:38million dollar buyout.
- 5:40When do you want me to leave and
- 5:41which door do you want me to use?
- 5:43There you go.
- 5:48All the candidates are going to use Penn
- 5:50State to get a raise where they are.
- 5:52You are correct.
- 5:54I know that's happening.
- 5:57And I was watching Get Up this morning.
- 5:59Heather Dinich,
- 6:00their college football expert,
- 6:01was saying that Penn State has basically
- 6:03said money is no object when it comes
- 6:05to getting a coach.
- 6:07They are willing to spend.
- 6:09They have so much coming in from donors
- 6:12that they don't even care.
- 6:14And that just boggles my mind.
- 6:19It's actually making me not enjoy college
- 6:23football as much.
- 6:24I feel like it's losing...
- 6:27Losing some of the beauty of like kids
- 6:30just going out there for the love of
- 6:32the game.
- 6:33I know there was a lot of backdoor
- 6:34stuff, but man, it just,
- 6:38and the kids are getting paid.
- 6:39The coaches are getting wealthy.
- 6:45Man, I don't know.
- 6:49It has my head spinning.
- 6:50But the fall from grace that Penn State
- 6:52has had less than a year ago,
- 6:54in January of this year,
- 6:56they were playing in the Final Four for
- 6:59a chance at the national title.
- 7:02They lost in a close game to Notre
- 7:04Dame,
- 7:05or they would have been in the national
- 7:06championship game.
- 7:08Now we haven't even made it six games
- 7:11into the season and they fired their coach
- 7:14who's been there for twelve seasons.
- 7:16That's how much pressure is on all this.
- 7:19Like literally this year they were in
- 7:22contention for the national championship
- 7:25and six games into the next season gone
- 7:28and pay him fifty million to go.
- 7:35A&M has one Chevron oil exec that
- 7:37basically donates to dictate our football.
- 7:40Yeah, that oil money down there is nasty.
- 7:48It is totally,
- 7:49what have you done for me lately,
- 7:50Aaron Frazier?
- 7:51Totally.
- 7:53NIL is destroying college ball.
- 7:56I agree.
- 7:57I do believe the players,
- 7:59like what was infuriating for years is...
- 8:03You would take a popular player,
- 8:06you would put his number on a jersey,
- 8:08and you would sell them like crazy in
- 8:10the gift shop,
- 8:11and that player got zero dollars for that.
- 8:14And they are using what he is doing
- 8:15on the field to make a profit.
- 8:18I believe the player should have received
- 8:20something for that,
- 8:22but we have opened up the floodgates into
- 8:24an area that is way beyond what I
- 8:26think is reasonable at this point.
- 8:29And if they don't get a handle on
- 8:30this...
- 8:33there's going to be so much, I mean,
- 8:36there's already the transfer portal is
- 8:39almost becoming more important than
- 8:40recruiting.
- 8:41If you can get people in the transfer
- 8:43portal,
- 8:44you can build your team quickly and you
- 8:47don't even need to recruit that well
- 8:49anymore.
- 8:50And if you have the money to do
- 8:51that, it's,
- 8:53that's the way it's going to go.
- 8:55That is so much pro sports with unlimited
- 8:58free agency, right?
- 9:00Because you can't sign these kids to
- 9:01long-term deals.
- 9:03You only can give them something for a
- 9:05year.
- 9:06So next year,
- 9:08we move to another place to get more
- 9:09money.
- 9:15When the coach gets fired,
- 9:16the players all enter the portal.
- 9:17So the school has to get started on
- 9:19rebuilding the roster immediately.
- 9:21Yeah.
- 9:22Every, like, I would say, I would say,
- 9:25I would say, I would say,
- 9:34Nothing to stop a twenty one year old
- 9:35from declaring for the NFL draft.
- 9:37If anything, lower the age to declare it.
- 9:39Eighteen.
- 9:42I know what this was actually proposed for
- 9:44you,
- 9:45and they actually showed research that the
- 9:48body of an eighteen year old.
- 9:50Couldn't handle.
- 9:53The collisions and the impact of the NFL,
- 9:57and they were actually just protecting the
- 9:58kids from that.
- 10:00That was their that was their story then.
- 10:04I don't know if it was a story
- 10:05or just trying to have more control over
- 10:08the wild,
- 10:09wild west that is college football and the
- 10:11NFL.
- 10:14But crazy.
- 10:17Travis, I don't mind NIL,
- 10:19but a large percentage of should be
- 10:21withheld until after they leave school.
- 10:25That's an idea.
- 10:28I think there should be a cap.
- 10:30I mean, there's a cap in the NFL.
- 10:33Why do we have no cap in college
- 10:35football?
- 10:40Most college players are going to make
- 10:41more money in college than as pros.
- 10:43You are correct.
- 10:46I mean, and you look in women's sports,
- 10:48like Caitlin Clark was making like eight
- 10:53million dollars her senior year,
- 10:55and she actually took a major pay cut
- 10:57to go pro.
- 11:02Fergie,
- 11:02but eighteen year old bodies can handle
- 11:04combat and war.
- 11:09I,
- 11:10I see what I see the point you're
- 11:11making.
- 11:12I see the point you're making,
- 11:14but there's not a lot of hand to
- 11:16hand combat in war.
- 11:24uh, Megan, I'm so behind.
- 11:26When did they start playing,
- 11:27paying college players?
- 11:29Uh,
- 11:29they've probably been paying them for
- 11:31decades,
- 11:32but legally it happened a few years ago.
- 11:34There was a lawsuit that players filed
- 11:39that they should be compensated.
- 11:41If the college or university uses their
- 11:43name,
- 11:44their image or their likeness to make a
- 11:47profit.
- 11:50And, um,
- 11:53And so they won that lawsuit.
- 11:55And because of that,
- 11:56it has opened up the wild, wild west.
- 12:06Train olives.
- 12:07Caitlin Clark took a pay cut in salary,
- 12:09not endorsements.
- 12:10Correct.
- 12:11Correct.
- 12:15The LSU gymnast that was the highest paid
- 12:17athlete at one time.
- 12:18And that was Livvy Dunn.
- 12:20And she's still modeling for the same
- 12:21companies she was getting paid for in
- 12:24college.
- 12:25And she was never like an Olympic gymnast.
- 12:29She was never going to go to the
- 12:30Olympics or take gymnastics to a pro
- 12:33level.
- 12:33And she was making, I think, ten million.
- 12:38Ten million in college.
- 12:40Ten million.
- 12:41That's...
- 12:43Gosh,
- 12:44I was digging through couch cushions to
- 12:46buy pizza.
- 12:48These people were getting millions of
- 12:49dollars,
- 12:50but I couldn't do a back triple with
- 12:54a twist.
- 13:01A University of Miami alumni have been
- 13:03paying athletes since nineteen eighty
- 13:04three.
- 13:06That is very accurate for you.
- 13:11I mean,
- 13:11Brian Bosworth was driving a brand new
- 13:13Corvette and had all the fancy stuff when
- 13:18he was in college at Oklahoma.
- 13:20Yeah.
- 13:26Corey Leonard,
- 13:27Livvy Dunn is married to Paul Skeens,
- 13:29who is the Pirates ace and maybe Cy
- 13:32Young award winner this year.
- 13:34They're probably not clipping coupons out
- 13:35of the Sunday paper.
- 13:37That is an accurate description for sure.
- 13:42So, enough about college sports.
- 13:48Last night,
- 13:49I made the comment as I was kind
- 13:52of researching the Masters Fitness
- 13:53Championships that happened this weekend,
- 13:56and I said that they are on the
- 13:57verge of becoming irrelevant.
- 13:59And I actually got comments saying that
- 14:01that might have been a little bit too
- 14:05harsh.
- 14:08And here's what I'll say.
- 14:10I think that there's an economic
- 14:12realization that events are going to face
- 14:15soon if they don't figure out how to
- 14:18streamline what they are and get more
- 14:21people to attend or more people to watch
- 14:25and get viewership up in some sort of
- 14:30way.
- 14:32The reason it came to light with the
- 14:33Masters Fitness Championship
- 14:36is they have so many different categories.
- 14:39They have individual elite.
- 14:41They have individual RX.
- 14:43They have teams.
- 14:45And with all of that going on in
- 14:47one space,
- 14:48the Masters community already has a
- 14:50problem where you have so many divisions.
- 14:55And at MFC,
- 14:56you have thirty to thirty four all the
- 14:59way to sixty five plus.
- 15:02And every five years,
- 15:03there's another division.
- 15:05So what's that?
- 15:06Ballpark seven or eight divisions on each
- 15:08side, men and women.
- 15:10Now you have sixteen divisions.
- 15:14Now you add an RX.
- 15:18For all of those as well,
- 15:19now you're up to thirty two divisions and
- 15:21now you add a team in and I
- 15:24don't think they did as many for the
- 15:27team.
- 15:27So maybe four more divisions each side.
- 15:30That's eight more.
- 15:31So you're talking forty divisions of
- 15:34things to watch in an event.
- 15:37And what happens is then the break between
- 15:41events gets to be so long.
- 15:43So family members have to sit around for
- 15:45eight hours waiting for their next event
- 15:49to watch a family member.
- 15:51Who wants to do that?
- 15:55You have long days for volunteers.
- 15:58You have long days for athletes.
- 16:00You have long days for spectators.
- 16:02Who wants to sit around all day like
- 16:04that?
- 16:06And it's all over the map.
- 16:08So what do you watch?
- 16:09What are you highlighting?
- 16:11And what happened at MFC is more of
- 16:13the bigger named athletes or noteworthy
- 16:16athletes did the team division this year.
- 16:20But they spotlighted the individuals on
- 16:22the stream.
- 16:23So when you're doing that,
- 16:25you're watching people that you probably
- 16:27don't know the names of.
- 16:29And I think that's where they're losing
- 16:32relevance.
- 16:33However,
- 16:34it is a good competition to go to
- 16:36if you want experience,
- 16:38if you want to get some confidence,
- 16:40if you want to go with all of
- 16:44those things.
- 16:44But I do think that events are going
- 16:46to have to start streamlining and knowing
- 16:48who they are.
- 16:50We've been saying this about CrossFit,
- 16:52the greater CrossFit for a while.
- 16:54You need a mission.
- 16:55You need to know what you're fighting for.
- 16:57You need to have everybody aligned and
- 16:59fighting in the same direction.
- 17:02I think events are going to have to
- 17:03do the same thing.
- 17:04Who are you as an event?
- 17:07And with that,
- 17:10how are you going to spotlight what you
- 17:13are?
- 17:15Let's take an example of a positive event
- 17:19and that is, um,
- 17:22Crash.
- 17:23Crash is happening this week.
- 17:25Crash knows who they are.
- 17:27Crash knows that they are an elite just
- 17:31under the cusp of like a semifinal.
- 17:34They have games athletes,
- 17:35they have semifinal athletes,
- 17:37and it's great competition experience to
- 17:40get you ready to fight for a games
- 17:42position.
- 17:43That is who they are.
- 17:45They program to that.
- 17:46They bring in the athletes for that.
- 17:49It's streamlined.
- 17:50You know who's going to be there.
- 17:51They whittle down the heat to just enough
- 17:55that make it watchable on a weekend.
- 17:59I think that is where they're going to
- 18:02have to go.
- 18:06Crash does it well.
- 18:07Crash gets people to come and stream
- 18:10because it's such a big event.
- 18:12It does well for those streaming,
- 18:14and it does well for Crash to have
- 18:16it streamed.
- 18:17You can partner with people that way.
- 18:19MFC is all over the map.
- 18:22It's a lot different than that.
- 18:30Sorry,
- 18:30but it's no different than if there's an
- 18:32old person football league.
- 18:33No one is going to watch.
- 18:35But if they come up with a good
- 18:38idea and a good concept,
- 18:40there are people that would watch.
- 18:42Is it going to be at the level
- 18:43of the CrossFit elites?
- 18:44Probably not.
- 18:45But it could be at a level that
- 18:48is sustainable.
- 18:56there is no master masters groups
- 18:59inherently have a problem of too many
- 19:01heats doing the same at workout too many
- 19:05times a day.
- 19:07Trying to figure that out puts these
- 19:10masters events in between a rock and a
- 19:12hard place.
- 19:14So why would you then add more and
- 19:16more and more divisions to make that
- 19:19inherent problem even worse?
- 19:26I know I'm a CrossFit geek.
- 19:28I really enjoy the CrossFit Games age
- 19:30group divisions.
- 19:35I think that it is fun to watch.
- 19:37I think the competitions are tight.
- 19:40I think they are competitive.
- 19:42It's a different vibe than the elite
- 19:45divisions, and I really enjoy it for one.
- 19:48But it's never been highlighted in a way
- 19:50for people to understand that.
- 19:59This year,
- 20:00the three-day pass was only thirty bucks.
- 20:02Wow.
- 20:03Last year,
- 20:03I went and had to pay one day
- 20:06alone was eighty bucks.
- 20:10So at least they've reduced that down to
- 20:12where it's affordable.
- 20:20So I wasn't trying to pick on MFC
- 20:22per se.
- 20:23They just were an example for what is
- 20:25going wrong with events, period.
- 20:30another example in a bad way is,
- 20:33and I love these guys.
- 20:34They've been on the show a couple of
- 20:35times, fight for the fittest.
- 20:37It's up in long Island.
- 20:39Um, they've been a very,
- 20:40very successful team competition for many
- 20:42years.
- 20:43Now they're going to add individuals to
- 20:45that.
- 20:47And so the question is,
- 20:48are you spreading yourself too thin in a
- 20:50direction that is not, um,
- 20:55is not in line with what you have
- 20:57been for years?
- 20:58Um,
- 20:59Can you sustain the additional heats and
- 21:02the additional length to your day when you
- 21:04have been dominating this team event for
- 21:07years locally?
- 21:14Just questions.
- 21:15Questions I think about.
- 21:20One other piece of news I wanted to
- 21:21talk about,
- 21:23and that is the Barbell Spin reported that
- 21:29the WFP in their trials, um,
- 21:36that they have no leaderboards.
- 21:38There's no report of how many people can
- 21:40qualify for their, um,
- 21:43their competition in Copenhagen.
- 21:46And my question to them is this every
- 21:49time things don't go the way you would
- 21:51plan them to go, you go dark, right?
- 21:55you hide it all like let's hide it
- 21:57under the carpet and hope nobody lifts it
- 21:59up.
- 22:00And here we are again with the world
- 22:02fitness project,
- 22:04having an event that they had planned
- 22:06these trials where people could qualify
- 22:08for a community event in Copenhagen and
- 22:12then go do that at the championships.
- 22:15I think it's become abundantly clear after
- 22:17the first two tours stops that at least
- 22:19in the U S the community event was
- 22:22dying, if not dead.
- 22:26Now you have these trials to go to
- 22:29Copenhagen for a community event where now
- 22:32the leaderboard has gone dark.
- 22:34You don't know how many people get a
- 22:35spot there.
- 22:37And everybody is questioning what's going
- 22:40on.
- 22:42I think that that is a terrible way
- 22:47to deal with the PR of that.
- 22:51If you are making the decision or it's
- 22:53become abundantly clear it can't be
- 22:55supported,
- 22:56then just cancel it and become an
- 22:58elite-only competition.
- 23:00Don't just hide it under the rug and
- 23:03hope nobody looks.
- 23:10Back to the Masters a little bit here,
- 23:12Shanna.
- 23:13Someone said once that MFC was becoming a
- 23:15team competition exclusively.
- 23:17I thought it weird, but if they did,
- 23:19it would have fewer teams per division,
- 23:22but lots of athletes.
- 23:26I did hear that as well, Shanna,
- 23:28and apparently they got endorsement from
- 23:30CrossFit to be able to call these teams
- 23:33CrossFit Games champions, right?
- 23:38it would be a brand new category for
- 23:40that.
- 23:41It all kind of seemed weird anyway.
- 23:44But I think you made a good point
- 23:46on the show last week that the older
- 23:49athletes are actually,
- 23:50they enjoy the team concept more because
- 23:53it's less beating on their bodies.
- 23:56And I really liked what you had said
- 23:59there.
- 24:00And I think that maybe if they decided
- 24:02to just do Masters teams,
- 24:05like two-person women, two-person men,
- 24:08and move forward with that,
- 24:09I think they could make that successful.
- 24:12That way you reduce the number of heats,
- 24:14but keep the same number of athletes,
- 24:16and you can kind of get through everything
- 24:18faster.
- 24:19um and i think it makes sense from
- 24:21a viewing standpoint as well as um just
- 24:25a logistics and helping the athletes out a
- 24:30little bit uh fergie i would enjoy
- 24:38watching masters athletes demo events
- 24:40between heats kevin coaster rope climbs
- 24:42hip and steel ring muscle ups jason grubb
- 24:44on a chipper would all be entertaining
- 24:48It truly is entertaining if you go live.
- 24:50And I don't know if you've ever been
- 24:52to an event live like this.
- 24:55I don't think people have given it the
- 24:56fair shake because they assume that it's
- 24:59going to be less fun to watch.
- 25:04But let me put it to you this
- 25:06way.
- 25:07Major League Baseball are the best
- 25:08baseball players in the world.
- 25:10But I still enjoy watching college
- 25:12baseball.
- 25:13I still enjoy watching Little League
- 25:15Baseball when ESPN airs that to see these
- 25:18kids fight for a championship.
- 25:22We do that with college sports and pro
- 25:24sports all the time.
- 25:28I think it can be successful if you
- 25:30give it a chance.
- 25:32But they do have an inherent problem with
- 25:35too many heats of the same thing all
- 25:38day long.
- 25:43And I don't know how you fix that.
- 25:51because it is not fun watching the same
- 25:55workout for forty heats during the day
- 25:59forty divisions and and in some cases
- 26:02they're they're more than one heat for
- 26:04that division i loved watching the live
- 26:17stream in indiana it was covering
- 26:19to see some of the competition that I
- 26:21could relate to, not crazy fire breathers.
- 26:25Exactly.
- 26:26I'm fifty five years old.
- 26:27I can't I can't do any of the
- 26:29things that the elite athletes do,
- 26:32but I can look out on the on
- 26:33the floor and see inspiration in those
- 26:36people in the age group games.
- 26:46Their attempt to fix that seems to be
- 26:47less than the number of athletes.
- 26:49At least that's what the games is doing.
- 26:53It's still in all fairness, Corey,
- 26:57when CrossFit was running the age groups,
- 27:00only ten athletes got in in all divisions.
- 27:04When legends took it over,
- 27:06at least you're getting thirty or twenty.
- 27:08That's way more than used to be there.
- 27:10Yeah.
- 27:17Freda,
- 27:17what if they did a longer qualifier and
- 27:19take less heats in finals?
- 27:29I am not a fan of online competition.
- 27:31I don't think it fairly assesses the true
- 27:34capacity because there aren't enough
- 27:38checks and balances with it in the Masters
- 27:41division.
- 27:42And I would contend...
- 27:44that you see big swings of even more
- 27:49in the masters division than the elite
- 27:51division of people who appeared on the
- 27:54online leaderboard to have the capacity
- 27:57and when they got there in person did
- 27:59not have it so that's that's the biggest
- 28:02problem with the smallest number of like
- 28:04ten
- 28:06A lot of times you are missing out
- 28:08on actually having the true athletes.
- 28:10They have the capacity at the games
- 28:14themselves or at the event itself.
- 28:19I'll use Jamie as an example.
- 28:22When she was thirty-nine,
- 28:24every event she went to in person,
- 28:26she podiumed and won a couple of them.
- 28:32Online, she finished twenty-seventh.
- 28:36and didn't even get to go to the
- 28:37games to compete live against anybody.
- 28:41So it's really, really hard.
- 28:46It's really hard to expand the online and
- 28:49think you're going to get the right
- 28:50people.
- 28:57Fergie, it's called pencil whipping.
- 28:58Guys do it in golf all the time.
- 29:01I do not disagree with you.
- 29:03I think that there's probably more
- 29:04corruption in online leaderboards in the
- 29:07Masters division than any other division
- 29:10in CrossFit.
- 29:14And that is another inherent problem.
- 29:16Now you're not even getting the best of
- 29:18the best to the games to see what
- 29:21people can truly do.
- 29:23Now you have people that are just so
- 29:25good they're going to make it regardless,
- 29:27just like in the elite division.
- 29:28Jason Grubb's going to get through the
- 29:30online qualifier.
- 29:32Rudy Berger's going to get through the
- 29:33online qualifier.
- 29:34They just are.
- 29:35But it's such a risk for those people
- 29:38that
- 29:41that have the skills that don't always get
- 29:43tested online.
- 29:50Corey,
- 29:51online qualifiers are not the best way to
- 29:52get people to comps.
- 29:54I realize they're necessary right now as
- 29:57we don't have enough in-person
- 29:58Masters-only comps,
- 30:00but you end up with not the actual
- 30:02top people.
- 30:04Amen.
- 30:06That is a problem.
- 30:06Then you get all these heaps of people
- 30:09that aren't even the right people to get
- 30:11there, and then...
- 30:13And then you get a mess.
- 30:16You get people standing around looking at
- 30:18apparatus that cannot even do them because
- 30:21they pencil whip their way into the games.
- 30:31It's fun that we started focus on online
- 30:34aspect you can use in person.
- 30:39Uh, I don't understand Frida.
- 30:41I know this year they're going to try
- 30:42to do some in-person stuff for semifinals
- 30:46with the age groups.
- 30:46Uh,
- 30:47but I don't think it's going to be
- 30:49a universal way to get in.
- 30:51Um,
- 30:52the only way to the CrossFit games is
- 30:54pretty much online semifinals and it's
- 30:57going to be a handful of people who
- 30:59can get in otherwise.
- 31:12That's harsh pencil whipped.
- 31:14Maybe Jay Birch,
- 31:14but I do think it's true.
- 31:16And not necessarily that they get one
- 31:19score and write down another like a true
- 31:22pencil whip.
- 31:23But I do think that there's some
- 31:25manipulation to the workouts and the true
- 31:30capacity of the athletes.
- 31:42Plus I would argue there's more PED usage
- 31:45in the masters divisions in the,
- 31:47in any other division as well.
- 31:53But that's just speculation.
- 31:56Cause I'm by no means an expert.
- 32:04So there's that.
- 32:09Um,
- 32:12I had a question last night that I
- 32:13said I would answer today.
- 32:20Uh, yeah, go for in-person qualifier,
- 32:22switch it up.
- 32:23Even if it might be more expensive to
- 32:25compete.
- 32:28Yeah.
- 32:28I think they're trying that out this year.
- 32:30We'll see.
- 32:39Um,
- 32:41How my training is going.
- 32:43I was asked about how my training was
- 32:44going.
- 32:46Right now,
- 32:46my training is a lot of yard work.
- 32:50It's just practical.
- 32:51It's what I need to get done right
- 32:53now.
- 32:54I'm trying to fix up my backyard.
- 32:57So I'm doing a ton of landscaping and
- 33:00digging and moving dirt.
- 33:03That has been my training for the last
- 33:05week.
- 33:08Training for me has been frustrating.
- 33:12I feel like I'm heading in a right
- 33:15direction health-wise and medical-wise.
- 33:19I just have to get through the process.
- 33:24I'm going through steps of figuring out my
- 33:27sinuses and my throat issues and lung
- 33:30issues.
- 33:31So I've taken pulmonary tests.
- 33:34I see a pulmonologist at the end of
- 33:36the month.
- 33:38I have
- 33:40been to an ear, nose, and throat doctor.
- 33:43I've discovered that I have an infection
- 33:45in one sinus.
- 33:46I have polyps in the other sinus.
- 33:49And I also have acid reflux.
- 33:51And together,
- 33:52those are creating a phlegm issue in my
- 33:54throat that I have to get corrected.
- 33:57But they need to know more,
- 33:58so I have to get a CT scan
- 34:01so they can see into what is going
- 34:04on in there.
- 34:05The CT scan is the twentieth...
- 34:10twenty first of this month.
- 34:15So I go to that on the twenty
- 34:16first to get the CT scan.
- 34:18Once I get the CT scan,
- 34:20then they'll be able to see how serious
- 34:22it is.
- 34:26And then I can start moving in a
- 34:30direction of getting healthier.
- 34:34This has been going on for me for
- 34:35four years.
- 34:36It is a growing frustration.
- 34:39And when I'm not doing yard work,
- 34:41I am doing sentinel training in my garage.
- 34:43And I do it in my garage because
- 34:45when I work out,
- 34:46a lot of phlegm builds up.
- 34:48It creates mucus and stuff,
- 34:50makes it hard to breathe.
- 34:52And I have to run outside frequently
- 34:54during my workouts.
- 34:55So it gets interrupted more than I would
- 34:58like.
- 34:59That's just where I am.
- 35:01I just have to fight through it right
- 35:02now.
- 35:03And I'm trying to get through all of
- 35:06this to get healthier on the other side.
- 35:09But it is very demoralizing at times.
- 35:14But that's what I'm working through.
- 35:19And I know I've been invited to the
- 35:21five AM squat club.
- 35:24It's,
- 35:26It's just not feasible for me at five
- 35:28a.m.
- 35:29at this point.
- 35:32My mornings are the worst part of the
- 35:34day for me with everything going on in
- 35:36my sinuses.
- 35:41That's just where I am.
- 35:42And I may join you guys once I
- 35:43get this remedied.
- 35:45But right now, I just can't.
- 35:48It just would not work for me.
- 35:58So my goal every day is to move.
- 36:02If that means out in the yard for
- 36:04ninety minutes doing yard work,
- 36:06then I'm good with that.
- 36:11And then if I don't do yard work
- 36:13or something like that,
- 36:14I go out to the garage.
- 36:16I get on the bike.
- 36:17I have sandbags.
- 36:19I do little workouts.
- 36:20I do sentinel if it fits what I'm
- 36:23doing.
- 36:24And...
- 36:26And I just,
- 36:27my goal right now is to move every
- 36:29single day.
- 36:30And that's what I'm doing.
- 36:36So, um, it's not glamorous.
- 36:39It's not something that like is games
- 36:43worthy or whatever.
- 36:46I just move every single day.
- 36:50Um,
- 36:54I take walks, Seema.
- 36:55I take my dog for walks every day.
- 37:00I do at least two dog walks a
- 37:01day.
- 37:04Probably a little over a mile each day.
- 37:15Jay Birch says,
- 37:16I'm not getting up at five a.m.
- 37:20And then Fergie says, wait a few years,
- 37:21Papa Birch.
- 37:22You won't have a choice.
- 37:26I don't have the choice now.
- 37:30I never understood why people got up to
- 37:32pee in the middle of the night forever.
- 37:34And then I turned fifty and that's just
- 37:37the way it is now.
- 37:41Hell getting old.
- 37:44Hell getting old.
- 37:54And I'm really with Megan on this.
- 37:56That's what I love about CrossFit.
- 37:58I can do it anywhere and adapt the
- 38:00workouts as needed.
- 38:01Just keep moving forward however I can.
- 38:04Yeah.
- 38:05When I put too much pressure on myself
- 38:07is when I get into trouble.
- 38:09And so my goal right now until all
- 38:11of this health stuff is fixed is keep
- 38:14moving every single day.
- 38:16Keep moving.
- 38:21Train all of I get up to work
- 38:23at three forty five.
- 38:26Wow.
- 38:33I wish I could sleep past six a.m.,
- 38:35but it doesn't happen.
- 38:37Yeah.
- 38:41And you're not even fifty yet, Corey.
- 38:49nine days out of ten it's five a.m
- 38:52yeah i used to coach i used to
- 38:53coach the five a.m so that was like
- 38:56a four a.m wake-up call um i used
- 39:01to do that a couple times a week
- 39:04i love those guys man i that's one
- 39:06thing i do miss about coaching is just
- 39:08those guys man it was so much fun
- 39:23Vicki says, what's this sleep thing?
- 39:25People are always talking about days.
- 39:35I coach here to classes.
- 39:36It's three fifty five.
- 39:39Yeah, I when I did five a.m.,
- 39:41it was it was a four a.m.
- 39:42wake up call.
- 39:44Oh.
- 39:56i love the five a.m class but i
- 39:58keep swearing throughout the day by nine
- 40:10a.m i have done a million things uh
- 40:14same jody
- 40:21Yeah, I'm into bed at ten p.m.
- 40:24That's where I'm comfortable.
- 40:25That's where I feel the best is when
- 40:27I go to bed at ten.
- 40:41Jay Birch does not like the morning,
- 40:43apparently.
- 40:48Jay Birch,
- 40:49has your schedule changed since you
- 40:50retired?
- 40:54And by how much, so
- 41:08I got the Bears game tonight.
- 41:09I'm getting pumped for since all my other
- 41:12teams suck.
- 41:13I'm hoping we're two and two heading into
- 41:16tonight.
- 41:17I'm hoping that this year does not end
- 41:19up like last year where we went into
- 41:21Washington, lost on a Hail Mary,
- 41:24and then all hell broke loose going back
- 41:27to the site of the crime.
- 41:29And hopefully pulling out a win tonight on
- 41:31Monday Night Football.
- 41:33That's what I'll be doing tonight.
- 41:35Tomorrow's show,
- 41:37I'm doing another Friends episode where I
- 41:41have someone on and we just chat and
- 41:42we let you all in the chat join
- 41:44us in our conversation.
- 41:46But I'll have Tristan Patrick on.
- 41:49We're going to talk whatever is on your
- 41:52mind, whatever is on our mind.
- 41:54But we've got to talk about...
- 41:57Hattie Cano and her trying a new coach.
- 42:01We'll talk about that tomorrow.
- 42:03I'm sure.
- 42:05Plus a million other things with Tristan
- 42:07as he keeps his ear to the trends
- 42:12that are going on in the CrossFit space.
- 42:15I'm sure we'll talk about a lot of
- 42:16things going on, but yeah,
- 42:21And then I believe next week I'll have
- 42:23Caroline Klutz on.
- 42:26She is competing at Crash this weekend in
- 42:28the Masters division.
- 42:29She won the thirty five to thirty nine
- 42:31year old Masters CrossFit Games.
- 42:34So we're going to talk to her.
- 42:35But she is a registered dietitian.
- 42:38So we're going to talk about diet and
- 42:39nutrition with her next week on that
- 42:41friends type episode.
- 42:43If you weren't with me last week with
- 42:45Josh Hicks,
- 42:46that's kind of the format we're going
- 42:48with.
- 42:49just kind of hanging out as friends,
- 42:50having conversations,
- 42:51and letting you guys join in and ask
- 42:53questions as well.
- 42:55So tomorrow, Tristan Patrick,
- 42:59and next week, Caroline Klutz,
- 43:02and I can't wait to see you all
- 43:05then.
- 43:08It's been great.
- 43:09Love you all.
- 43:10Get back to work, and we'll talk soon.
- 43:12Bye, guys.
