- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Her approach is deeply informed by her own journey navigating and healing from chronic mystery illness, which ultimately led her to pursue extensive training in functional medicine, energy healing, breath work, and somatic modalities.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Through Metamorphosis Creative, she supports wellness and purpose-led brands in reaching the people they are meant to serve through thoughtful branding, graphic design, marketing, social media strategy.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Her work blends strategy with soul, creating brands that not only look beautiful, but feel deeply aligned.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: Sam is especially passionate about the intersection of detoxification, nervous system healing, and creative identity expression.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: She believes the goal of healing is not perfection or becoming the most healed, in quotations, but cultivating the energy, vitality, and self-trust needed to fully live, create, connect, and enjoy this one precious life.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: Welcome, Sam.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Hi, I'm so happy to be here.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: We are so happy to have you.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Sam's also a friend of mine.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Um, so we're really excited to have her on the podcast.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: We've been on a journey the past little bit together.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: The journey of life, you know?
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: The journey of life.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: But we're really excited to have her here.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: Also, Sam just recently quit her full-time job.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: I guess it's not that recent anymore, but she I was just thinking that.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm like, it's actually been a minute, but she quit her full-time job and is doing holistic health and um the metamorphosis studio, both on the creative and health side of things, full-time now, which is incredible.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: Everyone knows what that leap is like.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: It is crazy.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it has been such a journey.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: And yeah, it's been almost six months, which I'm like, I'm sorry.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: What do you mean?
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, yeah, but it's also been while such a like it was something I wanted for so long that like when it came time, it was kind of like, well, of course, you know.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: It is weird, you just like get to a point and then you do the leap.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Like, and before that, I feel like there's so much like negotiation internally that goes on, and and like logically and emotionally, and you're just like putting everything on at least for me.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: I'm like writing pros and cons lists, like looking at budgets and all of that.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: And then one day you're just like the only thing that makes sense is dropping this and going fully in on my dreams.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: I totally agree.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: I was just talking about that with a friend this morning, actually, of like that there is actually just never a right time, you know.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: I even like delayed it.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: I like pushed my two-week notice like back two weeks or something.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: I was like, oh, that'll be better, you know.
- 3:31SPEAKER_01: And I was like, there's just never gonna be this perfect time for anything, you know, whether it's quitting your job or prioritizing your health or whatever it is.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: Like, there's no such thing as like the right time.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: No, and it just like it is uncomfortable.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: It just is uncomfortable, and I think that's actually like something.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: This is a side note before we get into everything, but I feel like discomfort is something that like we have been taught to avoid so like just so strongly with even just to the point of like taking ibuprofen for a little bit of pain, right?
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: Like it's we are we avoid discomfort at all costs, but actually, like the discomfort is the portal to living like your fullest, best, most passionate, wonderful life, and it's not uncomfortable forever, it's just little parts.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: Absolutely, it's just information, you know.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: And if you don't actually sit with it and look at it and ask why and get curious about it, then you're either avoiding the information and the keys that are directly in you to the thing that you actually want, or you go down this like shame spiral that actually doesn't help you either.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: No, it's so true.
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I feel like I see that so often with health, especially of like people get like mad at their bodies and like, oh, why am I having like such awful PMS?
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: Like my body is against me, you know, or like they just pop mit all every month and think that that's normal, you know, rather than getting curious.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: Like, hey, my body actually cannot like send me a quick text message and say, like, hey girly, we're like struggling with X, Y, and Z.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: It can only communicate with you through symptoms, like that's your body trying to tell you something's up.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, you know what?
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: I've never really like that.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: Makes so much sense, what you just said, but I've never really thought of it like that.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: Like, I think we can hate the symptoms so much, right?
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: You're just like you hate them and you want it to go away.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: So, whatever you might do, quick fixes or whatever, but uh ultimately like the symptoms are like not you don't need to hate them, it's just information.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: It's just information in the only language that your body has to talk to you.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: Crazy.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: Wow, how's that for truth bomb?
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: Literally, right?
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: Starting off strong.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: Um, okay.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: So I would love to know a little bit about like how your own healing journey shaped how you work today.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: So, what happened before Metamorphosis Studio that brought you here?
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, my journey has been one of twists and turns.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: Um, but every piece of it has completely informed the way that I work now.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: Um, so basically, we'll go back to like 16-year-old Sam, who was very type A, but also very creative.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: And I knew that I wanted to go into graphic design.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: Like from an early age, I was the girl with the like decorating the poster boards with all of the like glitter pens and the PowerPoints and like the word art.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: So I knew that that was what I wanted.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: Um, but along that path, I actually developed really severe eating disorder, and so that ensued years of really fighting with my body and struggling.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm very fortunate and grateful to say that I recovered fully from that while in college, um, thanks to the help of therapists, my own internal work, my mom.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: But in that journey, I started developing a lot of gut issues and hormone issues.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: And the thing was, anytime I tried to go to a traditional doctor for help because it said anorexia in my chart, nobody wanted to listen to me.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: And they thought I was just looking for another way to restrict.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, guys, I quite literally looked nine months pregnant from bloating.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: This is not about trying to restrict.
- 7:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: And that's actually, yeah, that's how I ended up in functional health because they were the only ones who would listen to me when I was like, something is wrong.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: Well, that is so interesting.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: And so obviously at the time I was like so disheartened and heartbroken, even, you know.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: But now I can look back and be like, oh my god, thank God.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: Because that's how I ended up falling in love with functional health.
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: And I spent the next almost decade just falling deeper and deeper in love with this industry while also pursuing a career in graphic design.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: So I like to say that graphic design was my first love and wellness as my soulmate.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: So metamorphosis is the marriage of the two.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: Um, but uh basically while in functional health world, I started doing all the protocols and they would help.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: They would get me like a step further in the right direction, you know, addressing gut health, addressing hormone health.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: I was living in mold.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: I was having issues with my thyroid, like you name it, I was dealing with it.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: And while functional health helped, it didn't get me all the way there.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: And time and time again, the issue I was trying to fix would end up being solved by something else.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: So I spent years trying to get my period back, for example.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: And the traditional um recommendation is to eat more and exercise less.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: And I was doing that.
- 8:31SPEAKER_01: I was taking the herbs, I was doing all of the things for years.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: It wasn't until I started getting into meditation and breath work and actually finding safety in my body that literally two weeks later my period came back.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: Yep, yep.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: And so it was like, oh, I'm starting to just understand that whole mind-body connection thing that people are always talking about and I'm always brushing off.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: Isn't it funny though?
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't think it's just so interesting.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: Like, you can hear the things all the time, but until you're ready to listen, you won't listen.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: Like, and there's nothing really like it's not that there's something wrong with you for not listening or not understanding sooner, it's just kind of like a path that we're all on.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: But like I heard about breath work for years and years before I actually decided to like invest in a mentorship and do it.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: That did change my life.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: And it's like, wow, I could have been doing this so much sooner, but like I just thought it was all jargon or whatever.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: Like, you just you listen and you don't you read it and you don't listen, basically.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think about that a lot with like advice in general.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: Of sometimes when advice just like, especially when you see things on Instagram and you're just like that, just like doesn't land for me.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: And almost having till then almost sometimes I'll think of things that I saw a year ago, and I'm like, oh, oh now I get it.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: Now it resonates.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: And I think it really is just like what stage of life you are and whether like that specific advice or that modality actually like clicks in your consciousness in that moment.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's funny.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: I feel like I do it all the time with like really cliche-like quotes.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: And then I'll be like, now I get that one.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: Like now I guess now I get that one.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: Like, oh, it's not just like a cheesy, cute Hallmark card.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: I actually feel it in my body now, and you don't get how deep it is.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: So relatable.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: Um, okay, so then through that, through that journey is how Metamorphosis Studio is existing.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it kind of continued for many more years of realizing the like, okay, so uh my uh physical symptoms are really influenced by the mental, emotional side of things and you know, getting my period back through breath work and meditation.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: But the thing was it also worked the other way.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: All the breath work and meditation in the world were not helping with my anxiety when it was actually being caused by parasites and birth control and mold toxicity.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: So the fact that it really worked both ways.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: And then a few years ago, the like additional layer that I added on was energy healing and Reiki.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: And I truly had never felt such a like my body has fluctuated a lot in terms of weight, but this was like an energetic weight where I did my first session and truly felt like you know, those weighted vests that people walk in, like that was lifted off of me.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: And I had no idea that I was carrying it and wearing that.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: Like it was like I lost 20 pounds in one session from just how much energetic crap I was carrying.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: And that also that then became another piece into it.
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: And for a while I just felt like I was collecting the like infinity stones of wellness and was all over the place and doing creative stuff.
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: And wait, I like design and I like energy healing and I like breath work but functional health, and felt really just spread thin until really the past two years that I had the clarity around what's underneath all of those things is actually the same through line of supporting transformation.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: I just I love helping people access what's already within them to pursue the life that they really want to.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: So whether that's getting clear on the creative vision for the business of your dream or building the energy and vitality so that you can travel the world or build that business and have the ability to do that and really just supporting your metamorphosis.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: So that was the birthday.
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: Ah, I love that so much.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: Um, okay, let's look, let's talk a little bit about like the health side of things, and then maybe if we have time, we'll touch into the creative side of things.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: Um, but first I want to talk about kind of what you mentioned right at the beginning, but you talk about looking beyond symptoms and exploring the connection between physical, emotional, mental, and energetic bodies.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: For somebody is that's new to that idea.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: What does that mean?
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: It's a good question.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I think the four bodies is really the center of my work.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: We're not just gonna be like, okay, so here's what your labs say, take these supplements and make these diet changes, like peace out, best of luck.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: You know, like we're also gonna look at how your nervous system is doing, how your energy hygiene is, specifically for exactly what I went through in my own journey of you can do all the supplements, all the protocols.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: But if what's really going on is your nervous system feeling unsafe or a limiting belief of I don't deserve to be healthy, or I don't know who I am if I'm not sick, no one comes out and says those things because of course you want to be healthy, of course you want to feel better.
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: Like, how dare you say that?
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: My symptoms are so extreme.
- 13:50SPEAKER_01: But that can be under there, you know, and working until we look at those things, all of the supplements in the world aren't going to address it, just like the other way it works too of you know, all of the inner work in the world isn't gonna help when there's like a physical stressor of living in mold or dealing with Lyme or a parasite.
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's such an important distinction.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: Like it's all the things together, which can sometimes feel overwhelming.
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: It's like, okay, so like I have to like meditate, eat good, make sure my house doesn't have mold.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: Like, how many things can we add to this list?
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: But I think like the important part is taking it like one piece at a time, like one logical next step at a time, instead of trying to be like I fix all of it at once.
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: Totally.
- 14:42SPEAKER_01: And that's you know, I think any protocol would feel really incomplete to me without addressing all of them.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: But the overall mission for me always is to empower people.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: There's so much disempowerment, especially in the online space when it comes to helping wellness, that then it becomes this whole like, you know what, I'm so overwhelmed, f this, I'm not doing any of it.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: Rather than this, like, actually, I'm in the driver's seat, I have the tools, I trust my body to tell me when something's up and my ability to look at it, and that I have a support system and people in my corner who can help me see that and address it.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like taking that ownership and just like honestly, a little bit of control over your whole system is really what it is.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: Um, okay, one thing that you mentioned, and we do a little pre-podcast question to everybody.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: But one thing that you said um was that the wellness industry sometimes is like losing the plot.
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: What do you mean by that?
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: Ugh, this is like my number one soapbox right now.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: So I just feel like wellness has so deeply lost the plot of the reason why we're pursuing wellness in the first place.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: You know, does anyone really want to live to be 200 years old and do absolutely nothing with their life?
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: Like that I don't know about you, but that sounds miserable to me to never be able to do anything.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: Like, why are you pursuing this?
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: I guarantee it's not to just be like, look at this.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: I had the most perfect morning routine ever and checked off every box on my list.
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: Like, no, you're pursuing wellness so that you can actually have the energy and vitality to go after the one life that you really want.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: So if your wellness is actually getting in the way of that rather than supporting it, then we have a problem.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: Wow, that's such a good point.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: I feel like I was just talking to Reg about this because there's that one guy who I can't remember his name, which says a lot about me, um, who was like the he had spent like millions and millions of dollars on biohacking.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: And then like it turns out he has like this GI situation that like can't be healed or whatever.
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: And I Reg and I were just talking about how like it's so important to not like stop living your life, like it's never been about optimizing everything to the point where you don't live your life.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: Like, I and I've always been naturally like kind of adverse to that.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: I don't know, maybe it's because I'm an earth sign or whatever, but I've always been like, no, like I'm still gonna have my glass of wine.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: Like, I I can do the balance of like yes, get my morning workout in and do my breath work, and also have go to Disneyland and like have the tarot or whatever.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: Like, you know what I mean?
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: Like, I think it's just so important that you don't like try to optimize your life so much that you don't live your human experience because ultimately it is a human experience that you're having.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: I completely agree and like all of the things, yes, you know, of like the point of that, like the breath work practice, the like eating healthy foods throughout the day is so that you can actually enjoy being in Disney World and eating the churro and having just wind, you know, because I guarantee if you stayed up all night the night before and then ate junk food all day long, you would actually be having a miserable time in Disney World without glass wine.
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: You wouldn't be enjoying it at all, you know.
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: Like, are we supporting those things?
- 18:35SPEAKER_01: You know, and I completely understand.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: Like, I see those people on Instagram all the time of like, okay, like why?
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: Why are we doing this?
- 18:42SPEAKER_01: And it's so easy to get really tunnel visioned on it.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: And I actually think that ends up being one of the biggest blocks for healing.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: And trust me, I was in that too, where like healing became my full-time job, and you're just so focused on it.
- 18:57SPEAKER_01: And that's where I actually I think some of the biggest pieces that I found were missing in the healing space in general that are a lot of the crossovers between my world, yeah, are purpose and play.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: If you don't have a sense of purpose and an opportunity for play in your life and in your protocol, I guarantee you're never actually gonna feel fully well.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: That is uh that's T mic drop.
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: It was also just making me think about like in business, like we do the same thing in business that we do in health sometimes, where it's like we've over-optimized and then we've lost the plot.
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: It's like, was the was the goal always to just do the least amount of work you could possibly do, or was the goal to do work that feels fulfilling?
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: Because I think sometimes we it and in life, I just think you're gonna have the pendulum.
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: Like obviously, your experience where maybe you got tunnel vision in the wellness industry, it's not it's not like that was a bad thing, and it taught you a lot and it gave you perspective to be like, okay, where's the balance though?
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: Totally.
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: And I think that's kind of been my journey in general of everything that I've gone through that has been hard.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: I am a believer in like everything happens for a reason.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: Of like, I don't know that you always know the reason, but that eventually you can find a reason in it, you know.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: Like I wouldn't wish the eating disorder that I went through on anyone, but that makes me a far better practitioner because then I'm not contributing to turning people into these like crazy almond-obsessed moms, you know.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: And I can be more mindful of that.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: And same thing, I can also spot when people are getting too tunnel-visioned on health and being like, okay, like I cocked that because I've been there.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: Let's rein it in.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: That's why I intentionally bring in play and purpose.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: You know, I think everything that I've gone through has then become something that I can pay forward to my clients.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I feel like that kind of answers the question I had for you around.
- 20:58SPEAKER_00: Um, like you you say, like the goal isn't to be like the most healed.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: Is there anything you feel like you would add to that?
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: Like, what is the goal?
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think we kind of answered it of like maintaining that goal at the end of the day of like what are we working towards?
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: You know, like when you do have that energy and the vitality and you aren't struggling with symptoms, you're not dealing with um PMS or debilitating gut issues or brain fog, what is it that you actually want to do with your life?
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: And that's a lot of where my like crossover work comes in.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: Of I do breath work sessions that I call visionary sessions, specifically around what vision you're bringing to life and what gives you purpose and what your next step is.
- 21:43SPEAKER_01: And that's not always like my path of the like quit your nine to five and start your own purpose driven business.
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: Don't get me wrong.
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: I'm the first person to encourage you to do that.
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: But for some people, like one of my best friends, her purpose is outside of her job and she lets.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Loves it, but it gives her such fulfillment.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: And I think everyone needs one of those things in their lives.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: And that should be the end goal so that you can actually do those things and enjoy it and find you know going to Disney World and actually be able to have a good time while you're there, you know?
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: Can you feel joy in your body?
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: Oh, I love that.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: Um, you work with a lot of clients who deal with chronic symptoms, okay?
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: So, how often do you find that there's a nervous system component to that?
- 22:33SPEAKER_00: And what kind of role is that playing in their healing?
- 22:38SPEAKER_01: Literally always, always, every single one.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: I have not found a single person who didn't have a role and a piece being the nervous system.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: So that's I think really important for people to hear.
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: Um, and I think the understanding I'm someone who really needs like, I almost need my brain to get on board with the science so that then my like woo-woo side can open up and be like, okay, like tell me more.
- 23:04SPEAKER_01: Valid.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: And so I think that the nervous system is basically the gateway of like whether things are allowed in or not.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: It's called heal, like your healing state, rest and digest, is called rest and digest for a reason.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: You're not going to be able to rest or digest or be in this healing state where your body can actually accept the hundreds of dollars of supplements that you might be consuming, um, or the hard work that you're putting in, if your body is in a fight or flight state, it's just not going to accept any of those things because it's not the priority.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: It thinks that you're running from a tiger, you know.
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: In which case, in a lot of cases, all you're doing is making very expensive pee.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: Ah, unfortunately.
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: Um, and then even on the other side, like the nervous system plays a role in a lot of the symptoms coming in in the first place, and not just your ability to heal them, but things like MCAS or POTS or any sort of like dysautonomia, your cells will literally go into what's called cell danger response, where it's basically like no nutrients are coming in, no toxins are coming out, the doors are locked, and we are reacting to everything because clearly everything is unsafe.
- 24:24SPEAKER_01: And that's a really difficult place to be in to then heal from, because you're not actually able to move any of the things that need to be moved, and that's where a lot of the nervous system regulation comes in, so that we can kind of soften that response and allow your body to receive the good that it needs to and release the not so good.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: That makes so much sense.
- 24:49SPEAKER_00: I wish more people knew this.
- 24:51SPEAKER_00: I feel like I feel like healing your nervous system is almost like a buzz term now.
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: And like I feel like even my experience with working with the nervous system and stuff, like I've had to almost disconnect the word healing from it, and rather be like learning, I'm learning about my nervous system because I don't think that there's ever a point in time in which you're like, my nervous system is healed.
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: Like you, like I mentioned before, like you're a human having a human experience.
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: Like you could be traumatized at any time.
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: There's always gonna be like a new thing that your nervous system is trying to learn.
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: And I feel like when I was focused too much on like, is it healing?
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: Is it healed?
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: Am I healed?
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: Like, am I healed now?
- 25:45SPEAKER_00: I was like, yeah, spiraling because I'm like, well, why don't I feel healed?
- 25:49SPEAKER_00: Or like this came back up.
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: I thought I healed from this.
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: And rather like having the perspective of like understanding my nervous system to be like, okay, I can see exactly where.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: And then like my preferred method of like working with my nervous system is through breath work, but then I can take that into breath work and work on letting it process through the body in a way that it needs to be processed rather than just being like, Am I healed yet?
- 26:19SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh.
- 26:20SPEAKER_01: I can I be so, so, so related.
- 26:22SPEAKER_01: Yes, and that is such a like, I guess like two parts, but the like healed as a destination is so tempting, but so dangerous.
- 26:32SPEAKER_01: Cause I did that for so long.
- 26:34SPEAKER_01: And then it's almost like always delaying it for yourself and wondering this like, well, am I healed?
- 26:39SPEAKER_01: Am I there?
- 26:39SPEAKER_01: Am I there yet?
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: And that will just lead you into this endless trap of like never quite being there yet.
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: Or if you think you are there, and then like you said, something happens, then your whole structure is just like the castle tumbles, you know, and realizing it's not it's tricky because of the word healing, I think, because the way that like we experience healing as humans is like, okay, you cut your arm, then you get a scab, and then the scab heals, and then you're healed, right?
- 27:08SPEAKER_00: It's like it's not like it's not just gonna open back up again.
- 27:11SPEAKER_00: You're not just gonna get a new cut without, you know, like it's just that's not how it works.
- 27:17SPEAKER_00: So I think um it does because of that, healing does feel like a destination, or like there's gonna be a point in which it's complete.
- 27:27SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, rather for me, for me, it feels better to be like, do I understand it?
- 27:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, I think that that like kind of mirrors a lot of what we're seeing with our medical system and healthcare system in general, of functional health exists as kind of a response to the more traditional medical system.
- 27:47SPEAKER_01: But the thing is, there's nothing wrong with our medical system because it was built for those acute moments.
- 27:55SPEAKER_01: You know, if I'm in a car accident and my insides are on the side of the road, please do not offer me a Reiki healing session.
- 28:01SPEAKER_01: And I say that as a Reiki healer.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: You know, our medical system is amazing for acute illness.
- 28:09SPEAKER_01: If you break a bone, like phenomenal, that's what it's built for.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: It's not built for long-term situations, for lifelong health and wellness support, for chronic conditions, but also just for optimization and feeling genuinely good in your body in general.
- 28:26SPEAKER_01: And that's where we're now almost trying to like build a new system for that, because that's more of what most people are looking for today.
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: We have a lot less issues with the acute because we have this system that supports it well.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: But that system was never built to support long-term wellness.
- 28:42SPEAKER_01: And so now functional health, breath work, nervous system regulation, all of these things are coming together, but we almost have the mindset of like, okay, well, now it's fixed and I'm good, right?
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: When really it has to be this like toolbox that we're building for when shit inevitably hits the fan that you can actually hold it and move through it.
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: And even like nervous system regulation in general, I feel like it's gotten so trendy and almost watered down because of that.
- 29:07SPEAKER_01: And even the term I now kind of have issues with, because you're not just trying to like regulate your nervous system and, like you said, just like stay regulated and that is it.
- 29:16SPEAKER_01: Things are gonna dysregulate you.
- 29:18SPEAKER_01: The whole point of this practice should be that you can then bring yourself back and you're building resilience.
- 29:24SPEAKER_01: You know, you can't always decrease the amount of stress in your life.
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: Obviously, we want to, and like we'll work towards that.
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: But the bigger thing to me is can you build the resilience to recover from the stressful things?
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: Can you build the capacity to hold the things?
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: Because reality is, at least the women in my life, they want really big lives, and that requires really big capacity.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: So, can we build that so that you can actually respond to it?
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: And it's not just, oh, well, now I have to give up everything that I like to keep my nervous system, quote unquote, regulated or keep my body healed.
- 29:55SPEAKER_00: Like, oh, I can't do anything because I get unregulated.
- 29:59SPEAKER_00: It's like that's not the point.
- 30:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: Okay, that's so major.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: Um, this is gonna feel like a crazy segue, but these are the things that you have connected with in your life and your business.
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: So maybe it's not as crazy, but you have a unique approach to brand strategy.
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: You mentioned it's often more personal development than marketing.
- 30:26SPEAKER_00: What do you mean?
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:28SPEAKER_01: I realized that branding was really the part of graphic design that I was most passionate about.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: And I realized that that also mirrors the fact that I'm passionate about the same thing in breath work and personal development in general.
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: And the brands that I attend to work with are purpose-led brands.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: You know, we're not just talking about like, oh, okay, like here's a toothbrush or here's a bag of chips, you know, this is people's like lives work, you know, and so that becomes really a journey of like what is it that you're trying to build and bring to life.
- 31:01SPEAKER_01: And my role, I like to joke that I'm like WALLI.
- 31:04SPEAKER_01: Have you seen the Disney movie Wally?
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: Yes, you know, we use this like cute little trash compactor, and he takes like all of these different pieces that are like important, and he like brings them all together and gives you this cute little cube.
- 31:17SPEAKER_01: That's kind of what I feel like I do with my branding work, is like, okay, let's talk about all the things that are important to you and create this like concise package of all of those things.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: And so it ends up being this like reflection of like who you are.
- 31:33SPEAKER_01: And I think business in general is a lot like that, especially like for entrepreneurs.
- 31:37SPEAKER_01: It just is an ever-evolving cycle of like personal development and seeing what where your weaknesses are, where your triggers are, what you're excited about, what you want to lean into, what your strengths are, and that all gets really translated into like what makes your brand unique and fully you, as opposed to someone else doing maybe something similar.
- 31:58SPEAKER_00: Yes, I love that so much.
- 32:00SPEAKER_00: And building a business and marketing and building a business is one thing, marketing is another thing.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: They both are just massive personal development projects, like they will trigger you in ways you never could have imagined.
- 32:14SPEAKER_00: And like, I feel like even what you were what you were talking about made me think of this, but like my business is not my life's purpose.
- 32:23SPEAKER_00: Like, and I think that is often one of the personal development things that comes up in the journey where you're like, you either start a business because you're passionate about it, or you're like, maybe you're more like me, and you're like, I love what I do, but it's not my life's purpose.
- 32:40SPEAKER_00: Um, and navigating that and figuring out like what is it, what role does it play in my life, and what role does it not?
- 32:47SPEAKER_00: And how does that reflect in how I show up and build and grow my business?
- 32:53SPEAKER_00: Like, I love what I do.
- 32:54SPEAKER_00: I I am passionate about serving women.
- 32:57SPEAKER_00: I want all the women to succeed.
- 32:59SPEAKER_00: I'm passionate about paying my employees, but like all of those things, but it's not like you know, I'm not doing what you're doing.
- 33:05SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm not doing somatics or breath work or something that feels like it could be a life's purpose.
- 33:11SPEAKER_00: I'm doing social media.
- 33:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, totally.
- 33:16SPEAKER_01: I think that like that and of itself is really important and that like that shaped your messaging as a brand too.
- 33:22SPEAKER_01: You know, the way that you speak from this brand is really different from someone who's like, This is my life's purpose, you know, and that also then builds a brand that can grow and like live and coexist well with you.
- 33:35SPEAKER_01: Because if your business was like built on the foundation of being your life's purpose and that doesn't actually resonate with you, you're gonna get burnt out.
- 33:44SPEAKER_01: You're not gonna actually resonate with your own business, you know.
- 33:48SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 33:49SPEAKER_00: That's that's such a good point, too.
- 33:52SPEAKER_00: I think, yeah, like it's just such a massive personal development, and it does impact everything that you do.
- 33:58SPEAKER_00: Like it, my marketing is not coming from the perspective of like this is life, this is a life-changing thing, where like other people that is your marketing, that is your message, is that you do change people's lives, even yours, Sam.
- 34:12SPEAKER_00: Like that is your message.
- 34:15SPEAKER_00: Um, and it just impacts every aspect of how your business operates.
- 34:22SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 34:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, it's so true.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: Of like, I was listening to a podcast this morning, and it was kind of like, no, like you don't have to overhaul your life, you know?
- 34:31SPEAKER_01: And I think there is absolutely like an importance of that of like not getting overwhelmed.
- 34:36SPEAKER_01: But my passion and the way that I communicate is like, no, we are going to overhaul like in the best way possible.
- 34:44SPEAKER_01: But like, we want this to bleed out into all areas of your life, and like again, that like metamorphosis of like up-leveling and stepping into what feels so like deeply light your soul on fire in all areas of your life, and I don't see them as separate, yeah.
- 35:02SPEAKER_00: And that like, I mean, I'm probably so annoying, but like that's part of personal development too, is learning that discernment of cons what you're consuming.
- 35:11SPEAKER_00: Like, you obviously consumed that podcast, and we're like, I don't subscribe to what you're saying, and like I think that is so important because like you aren't going to always agree with the things that you learn about business or marketing or wellness or healing, and you have to be able to like build that discernment in yourself to be like, this is something that I agree with and believe in, and this is not, and there's nothing wrong with either version of that.
- 35:42SPEAKER_00: You can be successful either way.
- 35:44SPEAKER_00: I think that is one of the biggest and hardest things to understand in business is like totally there's not a right, there's not one right way, and in wellness and healing, it's like there's not one right way.
- 35:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, uh, I feel like that is still a lesson that I am learning in general.
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: And I just, yeah, it's in all areas of life, you know.
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: Even what we were saying before, where like you might read a quote and it seems cliche, but to someone else, it's like life-giving, it's everything and they so deeply like resonate with it, you know.
- 36:16SPEAKER_00: Like live, laugh, love.
- 36:17SPEAKER_00: I've never connected so deeply, like yeah, but that is my life's no exactly, exactly.
- 36:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I remember actually when we were at the immersion last summer, I had this moment of like, oh, I can actually like, and I still use this analogy in like all areas of life of like almost like trying on clothing, the way that you can try on a piece of clothes and be like, oh, this shirt looks great on me, or like, actually, it doesn't look that great on me, it doesn't resonate, you know.
- 36:50SPEAKER_01: And that's like so much of the like, oh, but like I have to take this advice or I have to take this whatever of like try it on, see if it works for you.
- 36:59SPEAKER_01: And if it doesn't, that's also totally okay.
- 37:01SPEAKER_01: You know, like I I think that's one of the biggest things I'm learning right now, even in business, is like my message won't be for everyone, you know.
- 37:09SPEAKER_01: Like there are people who don't want to overhaul their life and aren't gonna resonate with my message, and that's okay.
- 37:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, major, dude.
- 37:18SPEAKER_00: That actually kind of leads me to another question that I had for you, which is how do you know when someone like needs a marketing strategy versus needs to go on like a journey of self-discovery?
- 37:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's a really good question.
- 37:34SPEAKER_01: I think the biggest like cue to me is when we're talking about um like an agreed upon direction, say for marketing strategy, for the visuals, um, for the logo, whatever it is, and they keep changing their mind.
- 37:50SPEAKER_01: Like if they send me four different inspirations throughout the day that are like different brands, they really want to do this or really like that, and they're all completely different.
- 37:59SPEAKER_01: That's where I'm kind of like, okay, let's like take a step back.
- 38:03SPEAKER_01: Let's maybe do a breath work session, let's reconnect to your truth so that we're not trying to like just grasp for straws on other people's things.
- 38:12SPEAKER_00: Wow, that's such a clear distinction.
- 38:16SPEAKER_00: Like, yeah, absolutely.
- 38:19SPEAKER_00: And like I've definitely had clients come to me before that are like, I want to do this content and that content, and they're quite literally like there's not a through line.
- 38:26SPEAKER_00: It's like, yes, those are opposites.
- 38:29SPEAKER_00: Uh, and there's nothing wrong, obviously, with like trying both things or whatever and seeing how it fits, like the clothing analogy you had.
- 38:37SPEAKER_00: Um, but ultimately I do feel like when you truly know yourself and you know, like this is for me, this is not for me, or like this is my essence, this is not my essence, like it's just so much easier to build a business, serve yourself well, serve your clients well, market yourself, all these different things.
- 38:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 38:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, absolutely.
- 39:00SPEAKER_01: It's that ability to like try the shirt on and that moment where you're like, oh, this feels like me, or this doesn't feel like me.
- 39:06SPEAKER_01: That's like the skill that I think we're all really working on cultivating.
- 39:11SPEAKER_00: It's tricky when you're online so much.
- 39:14SPEAKER_00: Like it's tricky in every aspect of your life.
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: Like you're gonna be fed a ton of different wellness information, you're gonna be fed a bunch of businesses that are in your market but completely different.
- 39:28SPEAKER_00: And it's so tempting to be like, I should try this or I should do that.
- 39:33SPEAKER_00: I like I literally felt it yesterday where I was like, oh my gosh, like I need to do more talking head videos, even though they're just like not as natural for me.
- 39:42SPEAKER_00: Uh and then I was just like, why would I I don't need to do that?
- 39:47SPEAKER_00: Like I don't need to do that.
- 39:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it takes a while to be able to be like, that's for me, that's not for me, um, and not get just like lost in the sauce of advice and competition and comparison and all the things.
- 40:02SPEAKER_00: I totally agree, totally agree.
- 40:06SPEAKER_00: Okay, you built a business that blends creativity, wellness, and healing industries that really I mean, on the outside you'd be like, those are not connected.
- 40:17SPEAKER_00: Did you ever feel pressure to choose just one, or did you always know that there was a way you could do all of it?
- 40:24SPEAKER_00: Oh, a hundred percent.
- 40:25SPEAKER_01: One hundred percent felt the pressure to choose one.
- 40:27SPEAKER_01: I think we just generally live in such a like niche down, like find your one specific thing world.
- 40:34SPEAKER_01: Um, that I definitely felt that pressure.
- 40:38SPEAKER_01: And I think I spent a lot of time almost shaming myself for not being able to just pick one.
- 40:44SPEAKER_01: Um, and even like getting myself stories of like, oh, but if you're spreading your energy across these things, then you're not really like committed to anyone in particular, and I think it took a while to really realize it.
- 41:00SPEAKER_01: No, actually, we are multidimensional people, and so it makes total sense that one niche would not serve you and this like creation that you want to bring to life, and even the fact that I feel so deeply in my bones that a protocol in any one of those places, or just a process, even on the creative side, would be incomplete tells me that that wouldn't be my path.
- 41:27SPEAKER_01: And actually, that my niche, quote unquote, is the fact that I weave in all of these things and that they overlap and that I incorporate each of them.
- 41:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, niching is one of those things, like it's one of those things that it really had like an arrow on the internet, especially like in the online building an online business like bubble of 2021, 2020 or whatever.
- 41:52SPEAKER_00: Um, but I'm completely with you.
- 41:54SPEAKER_00: I don't think people need to niche like they think that they do.
- 42:00SPEAKER_00: I think that there's obviously there's benefits to that if your goal is to grow super fast in one regard, like okay, you might need to niche, but um for the most part, we are we're changing the structure of how businesses are and how they operate.
- 42:17SPEAKER_00: We're not following like the masculine template of being super niches into just one thing.
- 42:24SPEAKER_00: Uh, and I love that actually.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know me too.
- 42:28SPEAKER_01: I feel like I'm seeing more of a movement towards that right now, especially even the like identity pieces on social media right now doing so well of like just about who you are.
- 42:38SPEAKER_01: And I think people are so hungry for just like personality and the like we have so much information and education and AI and all of the things that now we're just like tell me who you are as a human, tell me your like depth, tell me your like unhinged takes, tell me your weird snacks, tell me like that you are a breath work instructor and you also love to rave, you know.
- 43:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 43:04SPEAKER_00: Like the depth is I we're definitely headed there, I think, for sure.
- 43:09SPEAKER_00: Like people want more of that for sure.
- 43:14SPEAKER_00: I've even seen it like play out where uh a lot of businesses are starting other businesses.
- 43:20SPEAKER_00: They're like, okay, well, now I'm gonna like launch a product line or like launch a physical thing or uh start this other business that has nothing to do with anything that I was doing before, and I think that's because like the pressure to niche has worn off, and people feel like they want to be able to do more than just one thing.
- 43:43SPEAKER_01: I totally agree, and I see that same parallel happening with like wanting to just be more human of I'm loving the series on Instagram where they're like, Yeah, I'm gonna start this other business or this other other endeavor.
- 43:54SPEAKER_01: Come along with me.
- 43:55SPEAKER_01: I have no idea how this is.
- 43:57SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't know what I'm doing.
- 43:58SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 43:59SPEAKER_01: I love.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: Kind of that's just like I actually don't know what I'm doing, but I'm gonna figure it out on the way, you know.
- 44:04SPEAKER_01: And I think that yeah, I'm loving that right now.
- 44:07SPEAKER_01: And I think so many people are just like hungry for humanness, you know, and I think yeah, reminding going back to the question because I'm the queen of side tangents.
- 44:16SPEAKER_01: Um I think that's also been kind of something that I'm now working through in the like niching down or merging worlds conversation is almost allowing myself spaciousness for the bigness of the vision, you know, of yeah, these are like many different worlds that in and of themselves individually could be whole careers or whole businesses.
- 44:43SPEAKER_01: And I want all of them and I want them to all be a part of this like metamorphosis ecosystem that I'm creating and allowing myself to like almost accept the bigness of the vision and give myself time and space to continue to grow into that and to let it evolve.
- 45:02SPEAKER_01: Which as I say that I'm like the irony of having to like remind myself to allow my metamorphosis business to have a metamorphosis.
- 45:13SPEAKER_00: At least we know that she's you're living it.
- 45:15SPEAKER_00: You're living it.
- 45:16SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 45:17SPEAKER_01: I am an embodiment of the work.
- 45:19SPEAKER_00: Yes, you are.
- 45:21SPEAKER_00: I love that so much, and it's so true.
- 45:24SPEAKER_00: Um okay, I have a couple rapid fires for you.
- 45:27SPEAKER_00: Are you ready?
- 45:29SPEAKER_01: I am, except as we can probably tell, I am a yapper, so I'm not very good at rapid fire, but I will try.
- 45:35SPEAKER_00: It's okay.
- 45:36SPEAKER_00: Um, okay, what's one wellness trend you wish would disappear?
- 45:41SPEAKER_01: Ooh, okay.
- 45:42SPEAKER_00: I have multiple.
- 45:43SPEAKER_01: Not surprisingly.
- 45:45SPEAKER_01: Um, the biggest one I really have is fear mongering, fear mongering in general.
- 45:50SPEAKER_01: Um, I think it makes wellness really inaccessible and just like has that moment of like we were talking about before where it's just so overwhelming and just like F this.
- 45:58SPEAKER_01: If I'm gonna like mess it up no matter what, then I'm not doing it, you know, and this like pendulum swing energy to it.
- 46:05SPEAKER_01: Um, that would be my number one.
- 46:06SPEAKER_01: And it just I think is turning so many people away from an industry that originally was supposed to help people.
- 46:12SPEAKER_01: Um, which I guess brings me to my second one.
- 46:15SPEAKER_01: I'm really over the like over-supplementation in the industry of you know, the originally like one of my complaints was with the medical world of like there was a pill for every ill, you know, and we're not asking those deeper root cause questions of like why is this happening?
- 46:34SPEAKER_01: But now I'm seeing the same thing happen in the wellness industry where there's a supplement for every symptom.
- 46:39SPEAKER_01: And we're again not doing that like deeper layering of like, okay, why are those things happening?
- 46:44SPEAKER_00: And sure, you're gonna probably need some supplements for a while, but you shouldn't need them for the rest of your life or 50 of them, but you know, but yeah, I agree with both of those.
- 46:58SPEAKER_00: Um, okay, what's one thing you've completely changed your mind about?
- 47:03SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 47:04SPEAKER_01: This is one of those like pieces of advice that I didn't resonate with me until it did.
- 47:12SPEAKER_01: Um the idea that it's all in your head or like it's just stress, being like deeply offensive and really like really invalidating.
- 47:23SPEAKER_01: Uh, when you're like, F you, my symptoms are real.
- 47:26SPEAKER_01: They're not just stress, they're not in my head.
- 47:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:30SPEAKER_01: And now, like many years into my own journey with this work, I can absolutely see how, like, oh, there were in fact symptoms that were caused by stress or were related to these thoughts and like in my head.
- 47:44SPEAKER_01: Quite literally.
- 47:45SPEAKER_00: Quite literally.
- 47:47SPEAKER_01: It was in my head.
- 47:49SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 47:50SPEAKER_01: You know, and that doesn't mean that they're not real.
- 47:53SPEAKER_01: You know, I want to be super clear that that's not an invalidating thing.
- 47:57SPEAKER_01: You know, like your symptoms are genuine and real.
- 48:00SPEAKER_00: It's the fact that there's almost like thank God it was in my head.
- 48:04SPEAKER_00: It's almost like true.
- 48:06SPEAKER_00: Well, good.
- 48:07SPEAKER_00: Like, uh I'm glad that I can change my thoughts and I can change like my reaction to this, and that actually will change the outcome.
- 48:16SPEAKER_00: Like, it's actually kind of a little bit uno-reverse, empowering, because it's like I have way more control over this than I thought I did.
- 48:24SPEAKER_01: Wow, wait, I love that.
- 48:26SPEAKER_01: I never really thought about it that way.
- 48:27SPEAKER_01: Like, it is, it's like genuinely empowering because I think it so easily then becomes this like people think of it as their like fault if it's in their head or if it's stress.
- 48:37SPEAKER_01: When really, if you take those layers of like shame and blame off of it, now you have the information of like, oh wait, that means it's within my like control and my ability to address this.
- 48:49SPEAKER_01: Like, hell yeah, that's so empowering.
- 48:52SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 48:54SPEAKER_00: We're just figuring things out.
- 48:55SPEAKER_00: It's incredible.
- 48:56SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 48:57SPEAKER_01: Give us a few more hours and we will solve all of the world's problems.
- 49:00SPEAKER_00: For real.
- 49:02SPEAKER_00: Uh okay, what's something people think is healthy but actually isn't?
- 49:08SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 49:12SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna say labels are like one of the most common ones I see of like, oh, it says high protein, or it says gluten-free, or it says sugar-free.
- 49:22SPEAKER_01: Therefore, it must be healthy just based off whatever thing is currently trending.
- 49:26SPEAKER_01: And as someone who has worked in the crossover of marketing and wellness forever, that is a marketing scheme.
- 49:33SPEAKER_01: And it is not true.
- 49:35SPEAKER_01: That is like you have to still look deeper and look at the ingredients.
- 49:41SPEAKER_01: And it's also okay if it's not healthy, not everything has to like try to have the label of being healthy, you know.
- 49:48SPEAKER_01: Like a Diet Coke isn't a health food.
- 49:52SPEAKER_01: That doesn't make you a bad person for enjoying a Diet Coke at a concert.
- 49:56SPEAKER_01: And I think that's where we risk this like health becoming a like reflection of your like goodness as a person or your worth, you know, of like just let it be unhealthy.
- 50:08SPEAKER_01: Like, don't you know?
- 50:11SPEAKER_00: Like it's it's not healthy and it's okay.
- 50:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and same thing with self-self-care, even, you know, of I think it's really easy to fall into the trap of just like abandoning taking care of yourself in general and calling it self-care, you know.
- 50:25SPEAKER_01: Of yeah, sometimes like vegging on the couch and watching a movie is absolutely self-care.
- 50:31SPEAKER_01: Binging an entire Netflix show all day and not getting up to brush your teeth or see the sun or eat food and calling it self-care, maybe not.
- 50:40SPEAKER_01: Maybe the self-care would have actually been like gentle parenting yourself to take a shower and have a glass of water and then going.
- 50:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like discernment.
- 50:50SPEAKER_00: I feel like it all just comes back to that.
- 50:52SPEAKER_00: But like you have to be able to know when, yeah, when when is it really what you need versus when are you avoiding what you actually need?
- 51:03SPEAKER_00: And then being like, it's self-care.
- 51:06SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 51:07SPEAKER_01: And just like, oh, it's self-care, oh, it's healthy.
- 51:10SPEAKER_01: Like, let's just be honest with ourselves, and then we can like sit with the facts and like make an educated and empowered decision.
- 51:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 51:16SPEAKER_00: And sometimes you're gonna be like, This isn't healthy, and I don't care.
- 51:20SPEAKER_00: I'm doing it anyways.
- 51:21SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 51:22SPEAKER_00: And like and it's okay.
- 51:24SPEAKER_01: And it's okay.
- 51:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 51:26SPEAKER_00: Oh, I love that.
- 51:27SPEAKER_00: Okay, two more questions for you.
- 51:29SPEAKER_00: Um, second to last one.
- 51:31SPEAKER_00: What's one daily practice you couldn't live without?
- 51:35SPEAKER_01: It's cliche given that I teach meditation and breath work and energy healing, all the things, but my morning practice, I genuinely feel like I walk around all day.
- 51:45SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, when you haven't showered and you're just like, I feel icky.
- 51:50SPEAKER_01: And like, yeah, I feel like that is the same thing to me of like sometimes you have a shower and you're like, that was life-giving.
- 51:56SPEAKER_01: I am so like that was everything to me.
- 51:58SPEAKER_01: And sometimes you're just like, yeah, that was a shower, and like nothing revolutionary happened, but I'm clean now.
- 52:04SPEAKER_01: That's how I feel about my morning practice.
- 52:06SPEAKER_01: And if I go too many days without it, then I feel like I haven't showered in days.
- 52:12SPEAKER_00: That is real.
- 52:13SPEAKER_00: I can relate to that too.
- 52:14SPEAKER_00: I know you can.
- 52:17SPEAKER_00: And we won't get into it, but like then you can be like, wow, I feel so much shame.
- 52:22SPEAKER_00: Why would I treat myself like that?
- 52:24SPEAKER_00: And then you're like, okay, that's not helping.
- 52:27SPEAKER_00: Just do the practice, move on with your life.
- 52:29SPEAKER_00: It's okay.
- 52:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I have been loving that shower analogy so much, especially for those moments, because it's so easy to then just like go down this spiral around yourself where you wouldn't do that with a shower.
- 52:40SPEAKER_00: You would just No, you just go get in the shower.
- 52:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's such a good point.
- 52:45SPEAKER_00: Oh, I love that.
- 52:47SPEAKER_00: Okay, and my last question for you is what is one piece of advice you wish you could give your younger self?
- 52:53SPEAKER_00: I love that question.
- 52:56SPEAKER_01: I feel like there are so many things.
- 52:59SPEAKER_01: Um But I think the biggest one would be don't be so busy living in your head or trying to figure out the next thing or the next chapter that you uh miss experiencing the moment that's in front of you right now.
- 53:16SPEAKER_00: I love that so much, just being present.
- 53:20SPEAKER_00: It's hard sometimes to be present, but it is like that's your life.
- 53:25SPEAKER_01: It is literally like that's that is literally.
- 53:28SPEAKER_01: I had such a like meta moment the other day of that of like you actually will never experience the past or the future, you will only ever experience the present.
- 53:38SPEAKER_00: Yes, I love it.
- 53:41SPEAKER_00: This was such a good conversation.
- 53:42SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much for coming on the podcast today.
- 53:44SPEAKER_00: I feel like everyone's gonna love this episode.
- 53:47SPEAKER_00: Thank you for having me.
- 53:48SPEAKER_00: I'm so glad we did this.
- 53:50SPEAKER_00: Me too.
- 53:51SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 53:52SPEAKER_00: Bye bye.
- 53:54SPEAKER_00: Bye.
