[SPEAKER_01]: Hey everybody, welcome back to the Grey Mulk and Lane Paytri on channel, where we get to talk about oft overlooked characters that definitely deserve a little more attention.
• 0:07
[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes, I do not enjoy the journey, but these character stories take me on, but it's always a wild experience to read a character front to back.
• 0:13
[SPEAKER_01]: Today we're going to be talking about Trevor Hawkins, or I boy, who's kind of an odd favorite, I think largely because of League of Williams's ex-factor a couple of years ago, but this is a character that you will always notice because
• 0:25
[SPEAKER_01]: They're covered in eyeballs, so wherever they're standing on the page, they don't even need to have a line of dialogue.
• 0:30
[SPEAKER_01]: And frankly, that's a lot of this character's appearances.
• 0:32
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's put them in the back.
• 0:33
[SPEAKER_01]: We draw a bunch of eyeballs on them, and then we know that one of the students was there.
• 0:36
[SPEAKER_01]: We're like other characters are distinguished by like they have a ponytail on the left or like a barrette on the right side of their hair.
• 0:42
[SPEAKER_00]: I boy, it's just covered in eyes.
• 0:44
[SPEAKER_01]: This is eyeball horror month on the show.
• 0:45
[SPEAKER_01]: We had to do eye-boy on this channel and he is a beloved favorite of mine after doing these appearances reading them all at a row.
• 0:53
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm very excited to welcome two incredible friends to the show that I've been meeting at const for years.
• 0:57
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, but this is our first time hanging out more than just like a quick hug in passing.
• 1:01
[SPEAKER_01]: The incredible ex-sugreen and the incredible Josh at Katana are here with me today.
• 1:05
[SPEAKER_01]: Let me have you both introduce yourselves with your name and friends.
• 1:07
  [SPEAKER_01]: pronouns.
• 1:07
[SPEAKER_01]: Tell us a little bit about you and for your initial thoughts on on I boy when I invited you to the show.
• 1:13
[SPEAKER_01]: Where did you begin this journey?
• 1:14
[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, thanks for having us on the show.
• 1:16
  [SPEAKER_00]: This is really great.
• 1:17
[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm Excel, pronouns are he-they, I'll answer to anything respectful though.
• 1:21
[SPEAKER_00]: And some things that are my history with the X-Men is getting into them from a very young age like around like five or something started with
• 1:28
[SPEAKER_00]: Action figures and then transition to or just added like the comics and the 90s cartoon and the trading cards and I just like dove in really hard on that I boy was He like I always love like kind of the underdog characters so I've always kind of had a little bit of love for I boy and there's really not there's very few excellent characters that I can think of that I wouldn't enjoy doing a deep dive into, but I boy seemed like a really fun, fun pick and I'm really glad that we did this because it's my first time
• 1:57
[SPEAKER_00]: reading a character's appearances all the way just taking a character and reading all their appearances all the way through.
• 2:02
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a really really great way to explore comics and experience comics and I highly recommend it.
• 2:06
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, not even just reading their appearances but reading from their perspective when you're looking through a particular a particular character's thousand eyes.
• 2:16
[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think is this character?
• 2:18
  [SPEAKER_01]: 57.
• 2:19
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's what the comic say.
• 2:21
[SPEAKER_01]: Let me also welcome Josh Kitton to the show.
• 2:23
  [SPEAKER_01]: Hi, Joshua.
• 2:24
  [SPEAKER_02]: Hey, Chad.
• 2:24
[SPEAKER_02]: It's so good to see you.
• 2:25
[SPEAKER_02]: Like you said, we've been passing each other in cons for years now.
• 2:29
[SPEAKER_02]: So it's nice to get some time, too.
• 2:32
[SPEAKER_02]: to talk and deep dive.
• 2:33
[SPEAKER_02]: As for the X-Men, I was always a big reader.
• 2:37
[SPEAKER_02]: I would read anything I could get my hands on, but what I really loved was mythology and comic books and fairy tales, Bible stories, that kind of stuff occupies all the same space in my brain.
• 2:49
[SPEAKER_02]: We could talk about my undergrad thesis after if you're so inclined.
• 2:54
[SPEAKER_02]: But as a kid I love Spider-Man as all kids do I like I like Superman I remember buying that that 91 relaunch off the new stands and man that that issue is just gorgeous I mean, it's just perfect.
• 3:08
[SPEAKER_02]: So I was off for the races then and then when that 92 cartoon hit It was like a bomb went off like my life was X-Men, you know for the next well what like 33 years because I'm here today talking I boy with you guys so let's
• 3:21
[SPEAKER_02]: As for I boy, I really fell in love with him during Lee as around that X factor run is so good.
• 3:26
[SPEAKER_02]: It's one of my favorite.
• 3:27
[SPEAKER_02]: I think of all time actually revisiting it for the show.
• 3:30
[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, wow, this is even better than I remember and I loved it then.
• 3:33
  [SPEAKER_02]: He's just such a good boy.
• 3:35
  [SPEAKER_02]: He's just such a nice guy.
• 3:37
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's sometimes hard to find in comic books with like the edge loody characters and like the grim dark stuff like he's just a nice boy.
• 3:45
[SPEAKER_01]: So Lee Williams, during Cricula, wrote the incredible book, X-Bacter, which was a largely queer superhero detective team.
• 3:52
[SPEAKER_01]: My friends with Lee, I had big plans for this book.
• 3:54
[SPEAKER_01]: I was going to go on for 100 issues.
• 3:56
[SPEAKER_01]: So I, boy, I think is one of the characters and Lee has run that got kind of set into the background a little bit thinking I can play these stories up long term.
• 4:04
[SPEAKER_01]: But then the book got canceled and some stories kind of got rushed a little bit.
• 4:08
[SPEAKER_01]: But still, when Lee writes a character, you remember that character
• 4:14
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to jump back to the beginning here.
• 4:16
[SPEAKER_01]: I boy is a new ensemble cast member in the already very crowded book, Wolverine in the X-Men.
• 4:22
[SPEAKER_01]: This is afterskism, so the X-Men have had the decimation, the Messiah complex, no new mutants are being born for a long time.
• 4:30
[SPEAKER_01]: And then help in the five lights, like trigger, right?
• 4:32
[SPEAKER_01]: Like the Phoenix comes back and suddenly there are more mutant powers manifesting in people being born.
• 4:36
[SPEAKER_01]: So now there's new students in rolling.
• 4:38
[SPEAKER_01]: Wolverine in the X-Men is a little bit of a comedic book.
• 4:40
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's a heavy cast.
• 4:41
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's by Jason Aaron.
• 4:42
[SPEAKER_01]: It ran in a 2000 kind of 10 forward.
• 4:45
[SPEAKER_01]: I really like this book.
• 4:46
[SPEAKER_01]: I know it's a little bit polarized for people.
• 4:48
[SPEAKER_01]: There's some infamous stories like, you know, toad dating husk during this era.
• 4:53
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of new characters that are really fun.
• 4:55
[SPEAKER_01]: But I boys shows up in 2012 in an issue called more pencils, more books, more teachers, dirty looks.
• 5:02
[SPEAKER_01]: And there's a couple of new students joining at the same time.
• 5:05
[SPEAKER_01]: One of them is the Aegean or Sprite.
• 5:08
  [SPEAKER_01]: I boys the other.
• 5:09
[SPEAKER_01]: This is right around the time that Shark Girl first appears.
• 5:11
[SPEAKER_01]: And again, it's already a robust cast.
• 5:13
[SPEAKER_01]: So to create characters that stand out in an ensemble, like this is pretty special.
• 5:18
[SPEAKER_01]: Where were you both in 2012?
• 5:19
[SPEAKER_01]: And were you Wolverine in the X-Men fans?
• 5:22
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god, where was I in 2012?
• 5:23
  [SPEAKER_02]: So, 2012, I think I was out of the X-Men.
• 5:27
[SPEAKER_02]: I during, this was well after college, but during college, I kind of dropped off because it's hard to buy comics as a college student.
• 5:33
[SPEAKER_02]: But I had always kind of checked back in.
• 5:34
[SPEAKER_02]: This was one of the errors where I jumped back in, but I was much more into, this was like revolutionary cyclops.
• 5:40
[SPEAKER_02]: This was the O5 coming back.
• 5:43
[SPEAKER_02]: I was very into those storylines, not so much this, although I do remember reading it.
• 5:47
[SPEAKER_02]: So I knew these characters, I knew GROB, I knew I boy, but this was not my bread and butter at this time.
• 5:53
[SPEAKER_01]: The X-Men as a school is like a theme that always comes back and back and back.
• 5:57
[SPEAKER_01]: And when you have the same students enrolled in school since 1982, that's the obvious one.
• 6:03
[SPEAKER_00]: The 2012 I was working at Groupon, I was like in the middle of like a collector phase.
• 6:07
[SPEAKER_00]: Like I'll go through like phases where I collect a whole lot and then I'll back off of it and stuff.
• 6:11
[SPEAKER_00]: So I remember going to C2E2 a lot and buying a lot of just a ton of comic data bunch of disposable income at the time.
• 6:17
[SPEAKER_00]: I was also like Josh very much into like revolution Cyclops things going on at that time Wolverine the Xman wasn't really a book that hit for me very much I have found a lot more to like about it reading it this time and I'm really appreciative of going back and getting that chance to kind of revisit it Not my favorite Wolverine unfortunately.
• 6:36
[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of like sad dad Wolverine a little bit and a lot of it
• 6:39
[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's very much like I kind of preferred him without his memories because there's like points where he's like sitting down next to Evan and saying like hey have I told you about my dad It's like I don't I don't want this from you.
• 6:50
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so one of the things and listeners one of the things we're going to avoid doing today is every time we bring up its student that is not Trevor We're not going to give you the five minute.
• 6:59
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, here's who this character is because otherwise we will be lost that it will be 17 hours long
• 7:04
[SPEAKER_01]: I do think there's a part of this that's valuable in I boy represents I think kind of a hopeful character he is he's a happy kind of simple well meaning kind of earnest try hard but also a little bit of a wallflower right and then there's these moments where they're like really anthem up for a minute which means he's sometimes the character who's the focus of like extreme violence which I never love when it's a vulnerable character
• 7:29
[SPEAKER_01]: But this is a teenage character who has just kind of an interesting journey.
• 7:33
[SPEAKER_01]: In 2012, I had just come out of the closet about a year before, which is right around the time I left the handbooks.
• 7:39
[SPEAKER_01]: So I was working on the Marvel Handbooks right up until just before I came out.
• 7:43
[SPEAKER_01]: That was kind of why I left because my life kind of flipped on its head for a while.
• 7:46
[SPEAKER_01]: But I was reading all of the Marvel stuff.
• 7:48
[SPEAKER_01]: I was reading all of the scripts in advance.
• 7:51
[SPEAKER_01]: I was like integrated well into like the Marvel machine at that time.
• 7:54
[SPEAKER_01]: So Wolverine in the X-Men is a book I found pretty special.
• 7:57
[SPEAKER_00]: I got to read all of Jason's scripts before the issues come out, right?
• 8:00
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, so we're going to open with kind of the comedic nature of it.
• 8:02
[SPEAKER_01]: And we're going to just kind of hop around the appearances.
• 8:05
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to focus initially on Wolverine in the X-Men.
• 8:07
[SPEAKER_01]: And then I boy, despite the fact that he's a new-ish character, has a pretty extensive kind of character arc through a lot of things, as he passes through hands from writer to writer.
• 8:16
[SPEAKER_01]: Now the theme on this month is eyeball horror.
• 8:18
[SPEAKER_01]: Let me ask the two of you, how do you do when it comes to eyes in like a horror sense?
• 8:24
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not a question you expect, but when you start thinking about it, you're like, oh, like I have feelings about this.
• 8:31
[SPEAKER_00]: I always get a little squeamish win because they always set it up in a movie that you know it's about to happen.
• 8:36
[SPEAKER_00]: They're gonna go for the eye.
• 8:37
[SPEAKER_00]: Like you see the needle approaching or there's a close-up or something like that.
• 8:41
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm always the needle to the eye is everyone's first thought.
• 8:44
  [SPEAKER_00]: It's interesting for sure.
• 8:44
[SPEAKER_00]: Because I mean, that's the trope, right?
• 8:47
[SPEAKER_00]: That is the thing that they kind of trot out to make people like squirm.
• 8:50
[SPEAKER_00]: And so I get equal parts like squeamish and then also being a horror fan kind of equal parts like seeing
• 8:57
[SPEAKER_00]: if they're going to do something different or how they're doing it or going like oh how do they get that shot or what was the actor going through or things like that.
• 9:04
[SPEAKER_00]: So a little bit of like you that's gross and also can't look away like fascinated by it.
• 9:09
[SPEAKER_02]: I am not a body or guy period like I don't like any of it so eyes don't occupy a special space in that world like I'm just not the thing anyway.
• 9:19
[SPEAKER_02]: So it's kind of cute like I boys always sort of represented is like kind of cute right so and kind of it's it puts the trope itself on its head that he's this horrific thing, but he's such a cute nice guy, you know, so I think it's always one of those things where like if you don't don't look too hard and don't think too hard about it and it's and it's just fine.
• 9:37
[SPEAKER_01]: So whenever I'm getting to know a new character, I'll kind of play two games in my head with them right away.
• 9:42
[SPEAKER_01]: One of them is the Ryan North trope.
• 9:43
[SPEAKER_01]: If you've ever read Squirrel Girl, he'll always be like, Squirrel Girl, powers of both Squirrel and Girl.
• 9:48
[SPEAKER_01]: When it comes to I, I boy, it's, you know, I boy, powers of both I and boy, which is already kind of like, okay.
• 9:56
[SPEAKER_01]: And then I always have like Peter David writing X-Factor where it'd be like, you know, they'd be describing Quicksilver like Pietro, you can run, but you can't outrun yourself.
• 10:04
  [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
• 10:04
[SPEAKER_01]: So like, I always want to be like, so you know, Trevor, you can see, but you can you see yourself.
• 10:09
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that's the journey I want to take for almost every character.
• 10:12
[SPEAKER_01]: like, the eyeball horror with this character, there's a lot of things.
• 10:16
[SPEAKER_01]: The idea of being watched, unseen thing in the corner, so Trevor can see through the walls or like, read your thoughts or understand your language.
• 10:24
[SPEAKER_01]: He fulfills the purpose of like, cipher a little bit in that way, Doug Ramsey, and that he can read your body language and kind of interpret things.
• 10:31
[SPEAKER_01]: But his eyes seem to work on kind of different spectrums, which could easily be like a very horror tropey thing.
• 10:37
[SPEAKER_00]: If we started using it that way in comics,
• 10:39
[SPEAKER_01]: X-ray vision, seeing magical energy, seeing astral energy, seeing truth, or like the path that truth takes.
• 10:47
[SPEAKER_01]: But the real horror of this character is he has eyeballs everywhere.
• 10:50
  [SPEAKER_01]: He's covering eyeballs.
• 10:51
[SPEAKER_01]: Where is the worst place for Trevor to have an eyeball?
• 10:55
[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's got one on the palm of his hand and that one really has to suck.
• 10:58
[SPEAKER_00]: Like the other places that would be really gross or uncomfortable, whatever, you're always using your hands.
• 11:03
[SPEAKER_00]: Having one on your fingertip or the palm of your hand would suck.
• 11:05
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I was going to go right there too.
• 11:06
[SPEAKER_02]: There's there's not a ton of consistency as to where he like how many and where his eyes are he's always got like the two two on each side of his face under his regular eye a third eye sometimes on the on the very top of his head, but there are a couple panels where he has one on the tips of each of his fingers that I'm like man that's got to suck.
• 11:28
[SPEAKER_01]: I almost wonder if like the eyes grow and recede certain points.
• 11:31
[SPEAKER_01]: We have to, I mean, we don't even need to talk about this.
• 11:35
[SPEAKER_01]: But does he have one on his penis?
• 11:36
[SPEAKER_01]: Is there one back there when he needs to go to the bathroom?
• 11:41
  [SPEAKER_01]: That sounds very unpleasant.
• 11:42
[SPEAKER_01]: And if so, how fast does Pink Eye spread?
• 11:45
  [SPEAKER_01]: Is he immune?
• 11:46
  [SPEAKER_01]: Cause I hope so.
• 11:47
[SPEAKER_00]: and does he have tear duct for each of the eye?
• 11:49
[SPEAKER_00]: Can he cry from all of them?
• 11:51
[SPEAKER_01]: So he seems to use his two main eyes as kind of his dominant eyes, but the eyes are also also painted often with different colors.
• 11:59
[SPEAKER_01]: There'd be like red, green, blue, brown, you know, like as you go down.
• 12:03
[SPEAKER_01]: So there's a lot of close-ups of this kid's face, and there's a lot of far away marks where it's just like little lines drawn into the flesh to indicate the idea of eyes.
• 12:11
[SPEAKER_01]: He has kind of the long blonde hair.
• 12:13
  [SPEAKER_01]: He's often wearing a suit.
• 12:14
[SPEAKER_02]: I think it lends to his sort of like his innocence and his youth that he kind of is for for most of the run of his character.
• 12:22
[SPEAKER_02]: Like I said, I think it's one of those things where, you know, you just can't think about it too hard like where where the eyes are and what they're doing and can they be covered with like his outfit and what can he still see through it and it's one of those things where it's one of those wonderful xman things where you just sort of have to like take it as a given and just roll with it, which I.
• 12:39
[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, visually I think he's a great character and like you said before he's he's really visually distinctive even with the long blonde hair anywhere he is he shows up in group shots he shows up in ensembles and it's always like oh my god, it's eyeball he's a character that doesn't really want to be a superhero in my vibe, but there's a couple of appearances.
• 12:56
[SPEAKER_01]: But really, I think he just kind of wants to be on the team, learning, contributing, helping behind the scenes.
• 13:02
[SPEAKER_01]: We could do get some stories where he gets a little bit more amplified and takes up a little bit more space.
• 13:07
[SPEAKER_01]: But then he seems more of a detective.
• 13:08
[SPEAKER_01]: He's been a reporter and a detective and other things.
• 13:11
[SPEAKER_01]: And then there's been a bend toward super heroism.
• 13:14
[SPEAKER_01]: But he's that character on, you know, when the bad guy attacks the mansion or craving the Hunter, sneaks on to Krico and starts murdering kids.
• 13:21
[SPEAKER_01]: He's the one I'm worried about, right?
• 13:22
[SPEAKER_01]: Like he can't quite defend himself.
• 13:26
[SPEAKER_00]: For me, there's like three things going on.
• 13:29
[SPEAKER_00]: He's like such a good boy, like what Jeff said earlier, like he's like the best boy.
• 13:34
[SPEAKER_00]: He's got a really good, like just a sensitivity.
• 13:37
  [SPEAKER_00]: He's got a really good.
• 13:38
[SPEAKER_00]: He's probably has the best moral compass out of like any of the students that have been to the school.
• 13:41
[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that those are a couple things going on, but also he desperately wants to be cool.
• 13:46
[SPEAKER_00]: and not in a way that he's going to compromise his morals, but like he wants to be cool so bad.
• 13:51
[SPEAKER_00]: And every chance he gets to imagine himself in the future, he looks like cable, he's got guns, he's like he just wants to be his version of cool.
• 13:58
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that drives him a lot.
• 14:00
[SPEAKER_00]: I find that very, very endearing about the character.
• 14:03
[SPEAKER_01]: He is a nerd for sure, which I love, but also just kind of his own person, right?
• 14:08
[SPEAKER_01]: And we always land on the mutant theme of like what can people become if they're just allowed to be themselves.
• 14:15
[SPEAKER_01]: We do not know this character's sexuality in any way, right?
• 14:18
  [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think we do.
• 14:19
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it was kind of flirty with nature girl.
• 14:22
[SPEAKER_02]: He's made several references to, you know, trying to make a move, but he never really does.
• 14:27
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, he never really gets there and he never seems honestly all that interesting.
• 14:31
[SPEAKER_01]: And then he also doesn't seem to have a lot of like really key relationships, like personal friendships that are just his.
• 14:37
[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of interactions with other characters, but you know, like rock slide and an oligo together, like for example, I believe seems to lack that character a little bit to I see him is straight and I like there's very like for X men with me, you are gay or queer until proven straight like that is just the general rule for me.
• 14:54
[SPEAKER_00]: And I boy, just, he just seems straight to me, but in it, of very, just like a very chill, when you, when you, when you see him interact with other queer people, or when you see him, like, I feel like there was a lot of opportunities for him to express certain like inclinations or whatever, and he just doesn't seem to kind of, I don't know, now that I'm talking more about it, maybe he's just like, a sexual, because he just doesn't seem to be alive, and any time that he is trying to make
• 15:22
[SPEAKER_00]: anything happened with anybody else.
• 15:24
[SPEAKER_00]: It seems like nice and like maybe a little bit perform it.
• 15:27
[SPEAKER_01]: I've done a bunch of these episodes now and every time I feel a certain way about the character at the start but by the end of the episode I feel completely differently so you're going to go on a journey together today.
• 15:35
[SPEAKER_01]: Josh, did you have thoughts on his relationships or sexuality?
• 15:37
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I just want to say so I think I pair him up most with nature girl just because that's where he lands and a lot of these runs.
• 15:45
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I see him as really just wanting to be involved, wanting to be included, wanting to have friendships and that's kind of what I see as his sort of main his main motivation rather than anything romantic.
• 15:56
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm finding myself a little bit sentimental about this character because I think he reminds me a little of my oldest kid who is 17 and is like very sensitive and like a really great student But just very conscientious, very thoughtful, very careful, like always saying sorry for something that wasn't wrong, you know, I boy gives me a lot of that energy
• 16:12
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, we're going to take turns going through kind of I boys key moments in history.
• 16:16
[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't have a long long history, you know, it's not a main X-Men character.
• 16:19
[SPEAKER_01]: Occasionally he'll get like one big moment.
• 16:21
[SPEAKER_01]: And then we have like two or three stories where he's the protagonist, where the story is told from his perspective.
• 16:27
[SPEAKER_01]: And then we also have stories where he's brought in just to be the victim of some kind of violence.
• 16:31
[SPEAKER_01]: uh... iceman we always have ice puns and with i-boy we will all have ipons there's a lot of dad jokes to follow none of them written by me i considered people listen to my show now i am not afraid of a dad joke i consider doing like a really funny paragraph opening that was just all the ipons together but we have enough in this episode you didn't need that for me to be good
• 16:50
  [SPEAKER_01]: Wolverine in the X-Men 19.
• 16:52
[SPEAKER_01]: The Gingray Academy has a new enrollee.
• 16:54
[SPEAKER_01]: It's Trevor Hawkins, his name is Iboy, and I'm gonna give him like very earnest Boy Scout voice.
• 16:59
[SPEAKER_01]: Name's Trevor, but you can call me Iboy.
• 17:01
[SPEAKER_01]: I know everyone will, anyways.
• 17:04
[SPEAKER_01]: In issue 21, he sees the X-Men get mentally controlled in the murder circus.
• 17:09
[SPEAKER_01]: We're not gonna take time to explore, but in issue 2.
• 17:11
[SPEAKER_01]: When he too, he ends up at the murder circus.
• 17:14
  [SPEAKER_01]: There's some mind-control shit going on.
• 17:16
[SPEAKER_01]: And he walks into, it's very like evil county fair.
• 17:19
[SPEAKER_01]: Right, like everything's on to, basically.
• 17:21
[SPEAKER_01]: He walks into the house of the bizarre.
• 17:23
  [SPEAKER_01]: He put together Trevor.
• 17:24
[SPEAKER_01]: Why did I ever leave public school being beaten up by Jax was way better than this?
• 17:29
  [SPEAKER_01]: Hello?
• 17:30
[SPEAKER_01]: Anybody here besides us, cowards?
• 17:32
  [SPEAKER_01]: Man, this is pathetic.
• 17:34
[SPEAKER_01]: I left all my new classmates with evil clowns and brainwashed X-Men, so I could hide and talk to myself, not the way to make friends Trevor, just got to think, got to use my powers, I have powers, right?
• 17:45
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I can see things no one else can see, just got to look for a way out of this.
• 17:50
[SPEAKER_01]: The room contains specimens in bottles, the private journals of noble cane, who's a ghost writer, are the map of the Isla des Demons, which is,
• 18:01
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a body of an old world work too dude named Iron Mask here.
• 18:05
  [SPEAKER_01]: There's a bronze wore wolf.
• 18:06
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a preserved vamp marked Hellbeast, which is state tuned by the way, everyone in January.
• 18:12
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm doing one of these episodes on the BAMPS.
• 18:15
  [SPEAKER_01]: And it's, you're not ready.
• 18:16
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll just say that much, because those are wild.
• 18:19
[SPEAKER_01]: Whoa, what's that snakes in the air made of smoke and weird symbols?
• 18:24
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, man, that's magic I can see magic.
• 18:27
[SPEAKER_01]: That's how they're controlling the X-Men and if I just follow these snakes I can figure out where they're doing it and and what?
• 18:34
[SPEAKER_01]: Stair them into submission dozens of eyes and not one of them shoots laser beams or anything
• 18:39
  [SPEAKER_01]: useful.
• 18:40
[SPEAKER_01]: Hey kids, me, I boy, the lamest mutant ever.
• 18:43
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, he's so tough on himself.
• 18:45
[SPEAKER_01]: And then Shadow Cat attacks again, mind control.
• 18:47
[SPEAKER_01]: She throws Trevor through a window.
• 18:49
[SPEAKER_01]: There's some clowns outside who are evil who start kicking him.
• 18:53
[SPEAKER_02]: Ah, not in the face.
• 18:54
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, not the stomach either.
• 18:56
[SPEAKER_01]: But soon he helps Wolverine wake up because Wolverine has been brainwashed into being Rivalto the clown.
• 19:03
[SPEAKER_01]: In the next issue, I would get to punch a clown.
• 19:05
[SPEAKER_02]: This is for the two dozen black eyes you creeps gave me, which is just sad.
• 19:10
  [SPEAKER_02]: It's so many budgets.
• 19:12
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about Ibois' introduction here.
• 19:15
[SPEAKER_01]: What have we learned about his personality just from these cute little inner monologues?
• 19:19
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, Jason Aaron, as much as you may not love Wolverine in the X-Men, he can run an ensemble book
• 19:25
[SPEAKER_02]: again he's just trying so hard like he's the kid with eyeballs right on this team of X men with like all these different powers running around with blood Wolverine and storm is in this bizarre thing and shadow cat all these alisters right and he's just got a bunch of eyeballs and he doesn't even really know what they do at this point.
• 19:42
[SPEAKER_01]: And we don't know much about his home life.
• 19:44
[SPEAKER_01]: He was bullied in public school and then got sent to the mutant school.
• 19:47
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's kind of, that's kind of what we get with background here.
• 19:50
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think it kind of like sets up two things right from the beginning with him.
• 19:53
[SPEAKER_00]: I think one is like him trying to do the right thing.
• 19:56
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, like, just just said he just has a bunch of biases going up against these like alisters that are brainwashed.
• 20:00
[SPEAKER_00]: Like he's going to have against storm and Wolverine and kitty and ice man.
• 20:03
  [SPEAKER_00]: And the correct
• 20:04
[SPEAKER_00]: thing for him to do in that situation is to hide until it's all over like that's the safest thing he can do instead he chooses to help and figure out what he can do and that also sets up we're going to see a theme of him finding out he has new powers when he's under distress.
• 20:18
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah and so it's established from the beginning and I kind of love that.
• 20:22
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he kind of sees like capable of nothing and turns out he's quite powerful, actually.
• 20:26
[SPEAKER_01]: In 25, we learn he's learning poker from Wolverine on the plane.
• 20:30
[SPEAKER_01]: He's going on a field trip to the Savage Land with his cohort.
• 20:33
[SPEAKER_01]: Remember that for the Spider-Man in the X-Men series later.
• 20:36
[SPEAKER_00]: We're all gonna die and I never even got to kiss a girl.
• 20:39
[SPEAKER_01]: And if that's the basis you're using to think he's straight.
• 20:42
[SPEAKER_01]: I just want to remind you all I kissed girls before.
• 20:47
[SPEAKER_01]: Later, Glob Herman is grossing him out and he throws up, which, you know, Glob's a sweetie, but until you get to know him, you know, you can see what food he's digesting.
• 20:56
[SPEAKER_01]: You can likely see, like the contents of his body in a way that may feel uncomfortable.
• 21:02
[SPEAKER_01]: And Trevor has additional eyes on top of that, right?
• 21:05
  [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for this.
• 21:05
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, he gets grossed out, he vomits and he goes, oh God, I just throw up in my eyes.
• 21:10
[SPEAKER_01]: And here's our first or second horror moment.
• 21:13
[SPEAKER_01]: Second, first, first horror moment is getting black eyes, which I hate terrible.
• 21:18
[SPEAKER_00]: Second one is the idea of vomit in my eyes, uh, so gross out factor twice now.
• 21:23
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
• 21:24
[SPEAKER_01]: In issue 27, there's some time-travel shenanigans, old man, dog, Logan, has some time diamonds.
• 21:30
[SPEAKER_01]: We're just not worried about it.
• 21:32
[SPEAKER_01]: Get into it, but I have a little gold, like old West Energy.
• 21:36
  [SPEAKER_01]: He likes shooting handguns.
• 21:37
[SPEAKER_01]: In 28, he gets his first kind of big warm moment for me.
• 21:41
[SPEAKER_01]: He's able to read all of the body language of his teammates and put them all together while also using two handguns to hit robots in their weakest spots.
• 21:48
[SPEAKER_01]: So like when he's very focused, all his eyes can move different directions, and he's like an excellent multitasker, which he seems overwhelmed by what he does.
• 21:55
[SPEAKER_01]: And he calls himself a badass, which I love a good character fat on the back moment.
• 22:00
[SPEAKER_01]: And then in 29, and we'll pause after this, we get a glimpse into a possible future where I boy is living on space station X, and he's monitoring all of the events on Earth.
• 22:11
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's very cipher energy again here for me.
• 22:13
[SPEAKER_01]: He's shirtless, he's covered in eyes, and he's kind of hot in a weird, like, eyeball kind of way, I suppose.
• 22:18
  [SPEAKER_01]: He's a good guy.
• 22:19
[SPEAKER_01]: He's very high-mdoll, aerial traffic camera, outside Wakanda Sky City, five, just captured an image of what appears to be a derigible, made of human remains.
• 22:27
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm guessing Frankenstein Inc. is back to business.
• 22:30
[SPEAKER_01]: Have Thunderbird and Phoenix intercept.
• 22:32
[SPEAKER_01]: Molloyed Message Board chatter seems to indicate rising political unease in the sub-training settlements.
• 22:38
[SPEAKER_01]: Ask Captain China, and any available members of the Krakawa Corps to be ready to intervene.
• 22:43
[SPEAKER_01]: Energy readings in the Latvian fallout zones suggest a church of Cedarac is conducting necromatic rituals again, alert shark woman's X4 squad, genetic profiling and Arizona Bay, Hellfire unlimited attempting to purchase the moons of Jupiter, still no signs of the hidden aquabocity, candidates for interstellar committee on religious fanaticism.
• 23:04
[SPEAKER_00]: Majestrics of Adara of the Shiar.
• 23:07
[SPEAKER_01]: So this character is doing this sage thing where he's like running all the computers at the same time.
• 23:11
[SPEAKER_01]: Also, he wants you to call him I, man, now.
• 23:15
  [SPEAKER_01]: And he gets blasters.
• 23:16
[SPEAKER_01]: And he and old man Logan kills some archangel robots, dad.
• 23:20
[SPEAKER_01]: And then Logan sends a warning to the past about events in the past.
• 23:24
[SPEAKER_01]: The Hellfire Academy in that damn siege, as Azul and his pirates, the Black Order, that butcher is Mando, a savor to secret plans, the new brotherhood, the Apocalypse Crusade, Jean is one of those like they're telling you what's coming up in the book over the next year.
• 23:37
[SPEAKER_01]: So let's check in on these appearances really quickly.
• 23:40
[SPEAKER_01]: First of all, Josh thoughts on Trevor vomiting in his own eyes.
• 23:45
[SPEAKER_02]: So he vomits in his own eyes because glob so they're in the savage land and glob is just eating things, right?
• 23:50
[SPEAKER_02]: And he comments before he's like, oh, this, you know, this tastes fine if you take the maggots out and then later on he says actually it's not too bad with the maggots in and that's my boy vomit on himself, which, you know, is pretty fair because like you said you also get to see it going down when when glob is eating.
• 24:07
  [SPEAKER_02]: I love this moment.
• 24:08
[SPEAKER_02]: He does have like a like a, hey, everybody, let's pull it together moment where he calls out all of his teammates weaknesses that he can see with his eyes right before taking to to hand guns and just blowing these robots to shit, it's a real big moment for him where he finally sort of grows a pair and it's really cute and and I love how excited he gets when he like has he's got a gun in each hand and there's several panels afterwards where he's just like locked and loaded with these guns and it's and it's great.
• 24:35
[SPEAKER_02]: He's really excited about it.
• 24:37
[SPEAKER_01]: So what would you do with a derigible made of human remains?
• 24:40
  [SPEAKER_01]: With a derision?
• 24:43
  [SPEAKER_00]: I really can't say.
• 24:44
[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't really given that much thought.
• 24:46
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm feeling woefully under prepare to answer that question.
• 24:50
[SPEAKER_00]: Possibly get away from it.
• 24:52
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 24:52
  [UNKNOWN]: What are you doing?
• 24:53
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 24:53
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 24:54
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 24:55
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 24:55
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 24:56
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 24:58
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 24:58
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 24:59
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 25:00
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 25:00
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 25:01
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 25:01
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 25:02
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 25:02
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 25:03
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 25:04
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 25:05
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 25:05
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 25:06
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 25:06
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 25:07
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 25:08
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 25:08
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 25:09
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 25:10
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 25:10
  [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
• 25:11
[SPEAKER_00]: So he gets to the or even like Martian man hunter and the um and like the justus leagues I'm pretty in the name of it but he's kind of getting to orchestrate which he's really good at he can see all that stuff but he also gets his gun to get this blaster moment and he gets to be the voice of morality and reason
• 25:28
[SPEAKER_00]: and for Wolverine when he tries to go in and like, but what's with the timeline?
• 25:32
[SPEAKER_00]: So I thought it was a really good take on the character and it was, I was really, really into that flash for it.
• 25:38
[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was super fun.
• 25:39
[SPEAKER_00]: Except the scene where Bobby and Kitty have obviously had a kid together, which is weird.
• 25:44
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
• 25:45
[SPEAKER_00]: It's showing the future of the academy and this is when Bobby and Kitty are dating.
• 25:49
[SPEAKER_01]: But you know what, again, I know some gay men that got married and had kids before coming out.
• 25:58
[SPEAKER_01]: The part about him in the future Wolverine really respects him like he sees him as an equal and you kind of Notice that with the teammates at his school, right?
• 26:06
[SPEAKER_01]: Like no one's picking on him.
• 26:07
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he's not a character He is a character that could be teased, but like his fellow students for the most part seem to really respect him I just did you have thoughts on I man.
• 26:15
[SPEAKER_01]: He's kind of hot, right?
• 26:16
  [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's a great look.
• 26:18
[SPEAKER_02]: He's got these high-waisted, tight, black shorts, and that's kind of it.
• 26:22
[SPEAKER_02]: But it's also, at some point, it's almost like a symbiote, like when he goes out into outer space, it like sucks around him.
• 26:29
  [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's a really good look.
• 26:30
  [SPEAKER_02]: He's got a great haircut.
• 26:31
[SPEAKER_01]: Are we, am I hearing future cosplay, Josh?
• 26:34
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I don't know, it could be.
• 26:36
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm, like, full on eye boy right now.
• 26:38
[SPEAKER_01]: Are we like painting eyes on?
• 26:40
[SPEAKER_01]: Or is it just googly eyes all over your body?
• 26:43
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, googly eyes are going to be much more fun, right?
• 26:46
[SPEAKER_00]: I think he looks like Sam Guthrie in this future version.
• 26:49
  [SPEAKER_02]: He does.
• 26:49
[SPEAKER_02]: He kind of still has that like long face.
• 26:52
  [SPEAKER_02]: It's a really good frame.
• 26:53
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a really good, like this could be the future of Trevor whether it's this particular future or something similar.
• 26:59
[SPEAKER_01]: Like a smart handsome, like hardworking, intelligent, like mama's boy, like, my god, that's big.
• 27:06
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna get it for me every time.
• 27:09
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like a crush, my crush characters.
• 27:13
[SPEAKER_02]: in the guy in the chair, right?
• 27:14
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yep, yep.
• 27:15
[SPEAKER_01]: So we're going to jump to A plus X.
• 27:17
[SPEAKER_01]: It's Avengers versus X men that never ending event.
• 27:20
[SPEAKER_00]: Trevor's in a whole bunch of like little background panels through this, because all the students are going back and forth and everybody's fighting.
• 27:26
  [SPEAKER_00]: And it's fine.
• 27:27
[SPEAKER_01]: But there's a series that ran for like a year called A plus X where it's just different creative teams telling short stories where two characters get to team up basically.
• 27:35
[SPEAKER_01]: Usually one from the X men and one from the Avengers.
• 27:38
[SPEAKER_01]: So David Lay from gives us a story in a plus X number nine that features an eye boy with Quinton choir and Pixie.
• 27:45
[SPEAKER_01]: And the three kids in a weird kind of thing, I feel like Quinton just bullied him into this.
• 27:50
[SPEAKER_01]: They break into the sanctum, sanctum, Trevor is there to be a judge in a weird competition.
• 27:57
[SPEAKER_01]: They end up saving Dr.
• 27:58
[SPEAKER_01]: Strange from the demon, Despair, who's one of my all-time favorite Marvel villains.
• 28:02
[SPEAKER_01]: I love Despair, that's how you must say it every time.
• 28:05
[SPEAKER_01]: Strange rewards I boy with a little telescope that enhances his ability to see magic and then he uses it to look through pixie's clothes and a really terrible gag I just think he was kidding Uh, yeah, it gets his first and only logo.
• 28:20
[SPEAKER_01]: It's got a little eyeball in the middle of the Oh, which is perfect.
• 28:24
[SPEAKER_00]: I definitely, I mean, it was fun, it was cute, it's fun to see a little rom between those characters.
• 28:30
[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't care for the implication that I boy was using the new telescope thing that Dr.
• 28:36
[SPEAKER_00]: Strange gave him to see through Pixie's clothes because that doesn't drive with the character for me.
• 28:40
[SPEAKER_00]: So I do, my head can, is that he was kidding, I think there's like established
• 28:45
[SPEAKER_00]: context for that, like you can see in a panel in an earlier issue of Wolverine X men where he's using like an eye to spy on Sprite and it's the way it's drawn.
• 28:54
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like a very joking like, yeah, you know what I'm doing kind of thing like we're just kind of like ribbing each other.
• 29:00
[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't buy that he actually looked through her clothes because I think that's a terrible joke anyways.
• 29:05
[SPEAKER_02]: It's cute to see Trevor as a third wheel.
• 29:08
[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's a cute little conceit for him.
• 29:10
[SPEAKER_02]: Quinn acquires wearing a bonnet throughout this entire adventure.
• 29:13
[SPEAKER_02]: And so the the the the details that are given is that pixie and and Quinn have a bet going that is now double or nothing.
• 29:20
[SPEAKER_02]: So he lost the first bet which is why he's wearing the bonnet.
• 29:23
[SPEAKER_02]: And so Trevor seems to be there to make sure that nobody's cheating, whatever this deal is, if Quentin loses that he has to wear also a diaper for like the next week at school.
• 29:33
[SPEAKER_02]: So there's some high stakes here, but I like Trevor's a third wheel.
• 29:37
[SPEAKER_02]: It's like a good, it's like a good little niche for him.
• 29:40
  [SPEAKER_02]: It's a cute little character moment.
• 29:41
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's a cute story.
• 29:42
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
• 29:43
  [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, Wolverine in the X-Men 38.
• 29:45
[SPEAKER_01]: Trevor is now a reporter for the school's newspaper, which is called The Gray School Gazette.
• 29:51
[SPEAKER_01]: He wants to interview new students, Joseph, and Josephine Bricklemore, but kid gladiator interrupt.
• 29:57
[SPEAKER_01]: So, Bricklemore kids are like, fake like shield agent characters pretending to be mutants to infiltrate the school and they get exposed.
• 30:06
[SPEAKER_01]: But they're drawn like really odd little, kind of quirky characters.
• 30:09
[SPEAKER_01]: This is a fun kind of two-part or with
• 30:12
[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you, our infiltrating our friends.
• 30:14
[SPEAKER_01]: So, kid gladiator shows up.
• 30:16
[SPEAKER_02]: You, boy of eyes, would not know a story of one crawled in your ear and laid eggs.
• 30:21
  [SPEAKER_01]: Great, this again.
• 30:24
[SPEAKER_02]: I gave you the biggest story this school will see for a thousand years.
• 30:28
[SPEAKER_02]: Grand Hero of the Cosmos, Kid Gladiator, Prince of the Shear, returns to this Backwoods barbarian planet to single-handedly save the hapless earthlings from the clutches of Thanos.
• 30:38
  [SPEAKER_01]: What can I say?
• 30:39
[SPEAKER_01]: It was a busy newsweek.
• 30:41
[SPEAKER_01]: What with those whole Hellfire Academy ordeal and brew coming back to his senses and then all those X-Men from the future?
• 30:48
[SPEAKER_02]: Drivel, you people have done absolutely nothing of interest since I left.
• 30:51
[SPEAKER_02]: My story would have sold millions of copies of your ridiculous little newspaper.
• 30:56
  [SPEAKER_02]: The paper's free.
• 30:57
  [SPEAKER_02]: Millions then.
• 30:59
[SPEAKER_01]: I love that this is a recurring gag.
• 31:00
[SPEAKER_01]: They get just that keeps happening.
• 31:02
[SPEAKER_01]: And then he flies Trevor up in the air, like trying to pressure him into featuring him and on entire issue of the newspaper.
• 31:09
  [SPEAKER_01]: Love this whole interchange.
• 31:10
  [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's adorable.
• 31:12
[SPEAKER_01]: In 39, we learned that Iboy has been training in the danger room at night with guns, so he's an excellent marksman, and then in 42, Iboy graduates with the rest of the kid and his mom and dad show up, and they both wear glasses and they both appear to love him very much.
• 31:27
[SPEAKER_01]: Apparently there's a very happy relationship at home that we've never seen it really explored.
• 31:31
[SPEAKER_00]: And he felt on the conclusion of Volume 1 of Wolverine and the X-Men.
• 31:36
[SPEAKER_00]: We see something a little bit earlier that we're going to see again and again is I boy being the one to welcome somebody new to the group or to the school or something like that.
• 31:44
[SPEAKER_00]: He's always in that position and he does a really good job at it.
• 31:47
[SPEAKER_00]: I think the issue where he has that argument with kid gladiator.
• 31:51
[SPEAKER_00]: He is like the one time that I was like,
• 31:54
[SPEAKER_00]: I break it because it seemed like he was flirting with a new arrival.
• 31:58
[SPEAKER_00]: It turns out it was probably just an act because he could already tell that something was off with them and they weren't there for the right reasons.
• 32:05
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a good ending to that book and a good establishment of Hood Trevor's as a character.
• 32:11
[SPEAKER_00]: I read a lot of the other stuff that comes after this before going back and re-reading the Wolverine and the X-Men
• 32:17
[SPEAKER_00]: stuff and I was surprised to see how many of the things that I love about the character that other writers built off of later on were established in this first run, but I just think that's really neat.
• 32:27
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, I'm way in the next volume of Wolverine in the X-Men.
• 32:30
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a brief volume two that runs for 10 issues.
• 32:32
[SPEAKER_01]: I boys still the editor of the school paper.
• 32:34
[SPEAKER_01]: He introduces himself to nature girl and he carries around and I fucking love this brandy.
• 32:39
[SPEAKER_01]: He has just up, it's a, it's a pad of paper, but he has written on it that it's his iPad, E-Y-E space, E-A-D.
• 32:47
[SPEAKER_00]: This is my favorite iPod in the whole episode, and it's really cute.
• 32:51
[SPEAKER_01]: He imagines himself as a muscular, far future freedom fighter with guns, in like a, like he's doing like a little fan art stuff.
• 33:00
[SPEAKER_01]: He calls himself broodshot, the man with destructive eyes.
• 33:03
[SPEAKER_01]: and good Lord may apocalyptic never get a hold of this character because I do not need blue shot to be canon, although maybe that would be fun.
• 33:11
[SPEAKER_01]: He also gets dialogue here like, I got you and I am the worst and they're all spelled EYE.
• 33:19
[SPEAKER_01]: Issue 3 fucking dog Logan is back and Trevor focuses his vision zooming in while saying enhanced enhanced like it's a little camera scope of some kind.
• 33:30
[SPEAKER_02]: is the the bloodshot is that where he has really it's just like a cable outfit.
• 33:35
[SPEAKER_02]: He's got that big brown shoulder pads.
• 33:38
[SPEAKER_02]: And there's there's instances in later appearances too where his costumes always tend to pull from like these really A-listers, right?
• 33:46
[SPEAKER_02]: Like Cyclops or a cable, like you can see that he's trying really hard.
• 33:50
[SPEAKER_02]: And these are the people he idolizes and kind of
• 33:53
[SPEAKER_01]: So now I'm going to turn it over to Josh Gauton to talk about a few different books.
• 33:58
  [SPEAKER_01]: We're going to jump to Spider-Man in the X-Men 1-3-6.
• 34:01
[SPEAKER_01]: This is my Elliot Kaylin.
• 34:02
[SPEAKER_01]: I had Elliot on the show to talk about this book.
• 34:04
  [SPEAKER_01]: I love this book.
• 34:06
  [SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
• 34:07
[SPEAKER_01]: It's one of my favorite little X-Men, like focused, little arcs of all time.
• 34:12
[SPEAKER_01]: I love it so much.
• 34:13
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, this is a really, really fun read.
• 34:15
[SPEAKER_02]: This is Spider-Man at his quickest, which I know isn't for everybody, but I really love.
• 34:20
  [SPEAKER_02]: It's a big cast.
• 34:22
[SPEAKER_02]: It's one of the few sort of ensemble books that I've read recently, where everybody really does get page time, a character art.
• 34:28
[SPEAKER_02]: Like you said, I've always tends to be a wallflower, and he can fade into the background of a big cast, especially with a big cast with some heavy hitters.
• 34:35
[SPEAKER_02]: But he gets a lot of page time here, everybody does.
• 34:38
[SPEAKER_02]: The conceit is that Wolverine is dead and his dying wish was for Spider-Man to come to the gene grade school and teach essentially another special class in order to find a mole who is among the class and working for some villain.
• 34:53
[SPEAKER_02]: But the special classes is Ernst, it's no girl,
• 35:00
[SPEAKER_01]: I love this group so much.
• 35:01
  [SPEAKER_02]: It's a great group.
• 35:02
  [SPEAKER_02]: It's a great group.
• 35:03
[SPEAKER_02]: And the whole sort of setup of the book itself is that it's spider ran villains teamed up with X men villains oops this this special class just keeps finding themselves in trouble with them.
• 35:14
  [SPEAKER_02]: So it's a really fun book.
• 35:15
[SPEAKER_02]: You can really tell to that that Elliot is having a really good time writing it.
• 35:19
  [SPEAKER_02]: It's it's really fun.
• 35:21
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's start with issue one and talk about it because I've always in the feature here and it's playing off of the grant for some special class from early 2000s for those of you that know that particular story I got to go look it up.
• 35:32
[SPEAKER_02]: So one and two we meet the class storm is escort spider-man to the to the campus and is not happy about this entire situation.
• 35:41
  [SPEAKER_01]: Spider-man's teaching ethics.
• 35:44
[SPEAKER_02]: I forgot that was the actual glass.
• 35:46
[SPEAKER_02]: So he's using the kids, the kids don't have any respect for him.
• 35:49
[SPEAKER_02]: He takes them to a field trip to the natural history museum.
• 35:52
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so he first meets the kids, and he's calling role, and he says Trevor Hawkins, and I boy says, present, I mean, that's I boy, deal with it, loser.
• 36:02
  [SPEAKER_01]: Did that sound convincing?
• 36:04
[SPEAKER_01]: Should I have asked for an interview for the school paper before I brazenly challenged his authority?
• 36:08
[SPEAKER_01]: So this is the characterization we get a microwave in this series.
• 36:11
[SPEAKER_01]: He's this kind of anxious wants to be cool kid,
• 36:14
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, still working for the school paper.
• 36:17
[SPEAKER_02]: He takes the kids to the natural history museum.
• 36:20
[SPEAKER_02]: Glob is there out in his globiest, but no girl has a little baseball hat on which I really like, as if that's going to like cover her for the for being in public.
• 36:29
  [SPEAKER_02]: Stegron attacks.
• 36:30
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know really much about Stegron.
• 36:32
  [SPEAKER_02]: It's a it's a Spider-Man villain.
• 36:34
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so I believe when they are in the the attack with the robots, I believe like falls to the ground and covers his head and is like tell me when this is over Yeah, it's a little bit scared.
• 36:43
[SPEAKER_01]: We have to note the moment in the classroom where a man teleports Peter Parker shirt off, so Spider-Man ends up Sure listen to part of the teens and everyone notices It's also the moment storm like opens the door to check on them and it's like, why don't you have a shirt off?
• 36:58
[SPEAKER_01]: when they get to the museum, I boy goes, wow, I love this place, and unless that would be lame.
• 37:03
[SPEAKER_01]: So again, we're trying hard to fit in.
• 37:06
[SPEAKER_01]: Stegron is a dinosaur man, it's soren.
• 37:10
[SPEAKER_01]: He's last, the character's real, his name is Vincent Stegron, and he got mutated into a stegosaurus man, and that's all you need.
• 37:18
  [SPEAKER_01]: He's a delicious character.
• 37:20
  [SPEAKER_01]: I love his visual, he's fantastic.
• 37:22
  [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
• 37:22
  [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
• 37:23
  [SPEAKER_02]: He's great.
• 37:23
  [SPEAKER_02]: He shows up.
• 37:24
[SPEAKER_02]: And of course, he is paired up with Sauron who we should note shows up later in a loincloth and purse where his stegron is completely naked.
• 37:33
[SPEAKER_02]: So the effect is somehow Sauron looks more naked, closed than stegron.
• 37:39
  [SPEAKER_02]: So Sauron.
• 37:40
[SPEAKER_01]: So my all-time favorite marble.
• 37:42
[SPEAKER_01]: He's my number one writer die love him.
• 37:46
[SPEAKER_01]: One of the first action figures I ever got.
• 37:48
  [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
• 37:49
[SPEAKER_02]: He also somehow has given and will come back to this.
• 37:52
[SPEAKER_02]: He's given Stegron, his power draining powers.
• 37:55
[SPEAKER_02]: So a fight in Sue's and Soron tries to hypnotize Iboy and he says, so unfair, I have too many eyes.
• 38:02
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I can't get away from you, exactly.
• 38:04
[SPEAKER_01]: Earlier in the battle too, while everyone's fighting, he kind of runs off to the side and wants to take pictures of the fight for the paper, which I'm kind of wondering if Peter Parker's noticing this kid, right?
• 38:13
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that was literally his stick for 30 years.
• 38:15
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, there's definitely a couple of moments where they connect on like on working for the daily buger being a reporter or things like that.
• 38:22
[SPEAKER_02]: Stagger on so on naturally have to monologue and their goal is to colonize Staten Island and turn everybody into dinosaurs.
• 38:29
[SPEAKER_02]: And this is also where we get that iconic panel of soar on saying, but I don't want to cure cancer.
• 38:34
[SPEAKER_02]: I want to turn people into dinosaurs.
• 38:36
[SPEAKER_01]: I talked to Elliot Kaylin about this, this panel went viral and it like became the only thing this very talented writer was known for for like a really long time, but it's such a good fan of.
• 38:48
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, Shark Girl infiltrates the bad guys as also a prehistoric animal and and pits the two against each other because Suran has a crush on Shark Girl.
• 38:56
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's just, this is just like nonsense the whole time and it's like
• 39:00
  [SPEAKER_01]: teenager, by the way.
• 39:01
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
• 39:01
  [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
• 39:02
[SPEAKER_02]: I also love so Soron implies that he can give his power draining powers to shark girl if he just kisses her, which implies that that's how he give them to stagger on to, which I really like.
• 39:15
[SPEAKER_01]: Can Soron with the kissy lips?
• 39:16
  [SPEAKER_01]: Can he get it?
• 39:17
[SPEAKER_02]: With the kissy, yeah, there's a panel of him like with like little kissy lips, which is
• 39:24
[SPEAKER_00]: Every time Soran shows up he has a brand new power that everybody refuses to explain and it's the best the best thing about him You know there in there in prison I boy also takes on a little bit of the leadership role again.
• 39:35
[SPEAKER_01]: He's the one that like strategizes how they can break out when they're all having their powers block So like again, I think there's like an effective leader Ben for this character pretty consistently
• 39:46
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so there's there's sort of nonsense that ensues that a running sort of gag in this in this series is that the bad guys tie up all the good guys, but like they're super heroes so like they've actually just bust out of the ropes, but also block it's turned into a wax stare stegosaurus a wax see through stegosaurus.
• 40:06
[SPEAKER_02]: Right, so in the dinosaur machine, they turn glove into a dinosaur and everybody's like, oh, he's real cute though.
• 40:16
[SPEAKER_02]: So there's a little hesitation to turn him back.
• 40:18
[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, so they beat the bad guys.
• 40:21
[SPEAKER_02]: They get on a plane.
• 40:22
[SPEAKER_02]: They start to head home to realize that in in issue three, oops, the planes been hijacked and now there's another team up of the Spider-Man
• 40:33
[SPEAKER_01]: At the end of two very quickly, I boy takes a picture of Spider-Man and Sam Wilson Captain America and is like, I'm going to put this on the front page, just another, I love these little cute moments they give him.
• 40:43
[SPEAKER_00]: There's like a running gag that I don't know if the writers are doing this intentionally, but it happens here and it happens a little bit before it definitely happens in Generation X later, where I've always just paying attention.
• 40:53
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not part of his powers.
• 40:55
  [SPEAKER_00]: It's not anything else.
• 40:56
[SPEAKER_00]: He's just noticing that things are different when everybody else is not paying attention.
• 41:03
[SPEAKER_01]: What role does I boy take in the mojo verse, Joshua?
• 41:06
[SPEAKER_02]: It's mojo and chameleon again.
• 41:08
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know too much about chameleon.
• 41:09
[SPEAKER_02]: He's a shapeshifter, but it's a really funny moment because everybody gets sucked into this, you know, the TV production of it all.
• 41:16
[SPEAKER_02]: Except I boy is locked in a room, Clockwork Orange style.
• 41:19
[SPEAKER_02]: So again with the body who are he's got his eyes pride open by mojo and he's watching
• 41:25
[SPEAKER_02]: of Mojo vision in front of him.
• 41:26
[SPEAKER_02]: And so again, to go back to like he's overloaded, he's he's in some sort of distress.
• 41:31
[SPEAKER_02]: And so he's got he's got a new power that kicks on suddenly he can see through illusions, right?
• 41:36
[SPEAKER_02]: So he gets busted out by the X babies, rare X baby appearance, and he rushes into save the day as everybody is sort of breaking out of Mojo's clutches.
• 41:45
[SPEAKER_02]: Camilleen has glob with a with a gun to his head and then multiplies himself through some sort of TV magic.
• 41:51
[SPEAKER_02]: and I boys able to see which one is the real one so they can save glob.
• 41:55
[SPEAKER_01]: We also get chameleon posting his I boy for a little while, which is just a funny choice.
• 42:00
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, I boy when he's looking at all the screens and everything's pinned open.
• 42:02
[SPEAKER_00]: He goes, please turn it off.
• 42:04
[SPEAKER_00]: I can't take any more horrible TV, which is...
• 42:07
[SPEAKER_00]: If we understand, buddy, we really do.
• 42:10
[SPEAKER_00]: He also bust through a wall, which it, like, perfectly sets him up for being on X-Factor later, because I feel like that's a prerequisite to being on X-Factor as busting through walls.
• 42:19
[SPEAKER_00]: So, Camelion and I would get a confrontation.
• 42:21
[SPEAKER_02]: You strap me into a hell chair and took my place.
• 42:24
  [SPEAKER_02]: Why me?
• 42:25
[SPEAKER_01]: At Camelion's Russian, the coward with the real powers, why not use that was very British?
• 42:29
  [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what happened.
• 42:31
[SPEAKER_02]: I do have powers, and I'm not afraid anymore.
• 42:34
[SPEAKER_01]: So he gets to stand up.
• 42:36
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he says I can see electronic transmissions now.
• 42:39
[SPEAKER_01]: I can see through false images.
• 42:40
[SPEAKER_01]: I can see emotional connections.
• 42:42
[SPEAKER_01]: So the theme you guys mentioned earlier where in moments of dress, like his powers kind of activate into new ways, right?
• 42:48
[SPEAKER_01]: We have that moment with the six gun shooters.
• 42:50
[SPEAKER_01]: We have this moment here.
• 42:52
[SPEAKER_02]: So issue four, they finally get back to the school and the the concede of the next two issues is Spider-Man versus Beast at the science fair.
• 43:00
[SPEAKER_02]: So Beast has a team, Spider-Man has his team and they've been challenged to beat each other at the science fair.
• 43:07
[SPEAKER_02]: Spider-Man's team decides to recreate the dinosaur machine from that sort of an Instagram we're going to use to colonize
• 43:15
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and as they're rebuilding the machine, I boys working on the computer code, and he says, you know, it's just like any other language, again, very slifer, saying, you know, you just have to kind of recognize the patterns and go from there.
• 43:25
[SPEAKER_02]: So now he codes and can see code, I guess.
• 43:29
  [SPEAKER_02]: Love that for him.
• 43:30
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, my notes is him doing the Dougie, um, or because he was being cyber.
• 43:34
  [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
• 43:34
  [SPEAKER_02]: definitely doing the Ducky.
• 43:36
[SPEAKER_02]: And I think it's also funny to know just a random thing in this is that Storm is perpetually sort of frustrated by Spider-Man for keeping the kids out too late or they got kidnapped twice.
• 43:45
[SPEAKER_02]: They've been gone for three days.
• 43:46
[SPEAKER_02]: Spider-Man's not answering his email.
• 43:48
[SPEAKER_02]: Rachel like once this twink obliterated.
• 43:50
[SPEAKER_02]: Like she is gunning for Spider-Man.
• 43:53
[SPEAKER_02]: At one point she pulls up his secret identity because his defenses are slightly down.
• 43:59
[SPEAKER_02]: And she has just like not, he's got a secret.
• 44:02
[SPEAKER_02]: There is something going on.
• 44:03
[SPEAKER_02]: She is just not having it.
• 44:04
[SPEAKER_02]: So they're competing in the science fair.
• 44:06
  [SPEAKER_02]: Things go horribly wrong.
• 44:08
[SPEAKER_02]: Beast is building a some sort of teleportation thing based on the BAMPS, I think.
• 44:12
[SPEAKER_02]: We can introduce to our next team up, which is deathbird in the brood with symbiots.
• 44:17
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's wild, guys.
• 44:19
  [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's wild.
• 44:20
[SPEAKER_02]: So we moved to the symbiots.
• 44:21
[SPEAKER_02]: Again, I don't know if five-way has any real big moments in that battle.
• 44:25
[SPEAKER_01]: He slept the symbiote brood like in the face.
• 44:29
[SPEAKER_01]: It like bites his aunt.
• 44:29
[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, get it off, get it off.
• 44:31
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he does lap, he does lap a symbiote.
• 44:33
[SPEAKER_01]: You glob gets to like serve as the focal point for like a planetary reentry, which is crazy.
• 44:39
[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, there's then we learn that Ernst is secretly a trader working for Mr. Sinister this whole time, which is where the series wraps up.
• 44:47
  [SPEAKER_01]: Tell us about it.
• 44:48
[SPEAKER_02]: So Ernst is the mole.
• 44:49
[SPEAKER_02]: She's working with Mr. Sinister in exchange for a body for no girl.
• 44:52
[SPEAKER_02]: So Ernst and no girl are kind of paired up.
• 44:55
[SPEAKER_02]: Ernst is always seen walking around with a no girl basically on a leash.
• 44:59
[SPEAKER_01]: Ernst is an old lady in a kid body.
• 45:01
[SPEAKER_01]: And she was supposed to be Cassandra Nova de Aged, but they just made her a different character at a certain point.
• 45:07
[SPEAKER_01]: I want to point out on the cover of Issue 6 in the group shot.
• 45:10
[SPEAKER_01]: I boy has drawn with no eyes on his face, but like four eyes on his forehead.
• 45:14
[SPEAKER_01]: And I really hated this look.
• 45:18
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like I said, there's not a lot of consistency in the eyeballs.
• 45:22
[SPEAKER_02]: Sinister, oops, wasn't good for his word, puts no girl in a storm-clone body.
• 45:27
[SPEAKER_02]: And then we get sort of bad X-Men clones that, again, the special class needs to fight.
• 45:33
[SPEAKER_02]: When I don't know if I, I don't know if I, I boy has any real, real battle moments.
• 45:37
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he gets to see some stuff and like, so lead them to a destination.
• 45:42
  [SPEAKER_01]: That's kind of, yeah.
• 45:43
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we find out he's got, he can see light spectrum.
• 45:46
[SPEAKER_02]: He can see heat signatures.
• 45:47
[SPEAKER_02]: He can see through illusions.
• 45:48
[SPEAKER_02]: So his powers are kind of stacking up as writers get a hold of him of what he can actually see.
• 45:54
[SPEAKER_02]: I think at the end of this, he asks out Martha Johansson.
• 45:57
[SPEAKER_01]: Glob falls on him once and he goes, I'm going to have so many black eyes.
• 46:01
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
• 46:02
[SPEAKER_02]: he asks out no girl at the end of this and that's never really followed up on thank god I don't need to see that but yeah I think throughout this he's giving he's giving like big Doug Ramsay energy he's kind of always in the background seeing things saying what's happened what's gonna happen next he's kind of helping out in battle without ever actually being in battle himself the end is very cute you know storm brings all of the the people back to basically rat on all the things spider-man did wrong and they all just say
• 46:32
[SPEAKER_01]: We have to comment, and this character is either giving queer or ace vibes to me.
• 46:36
[SPEAKER_01]: There's the moment when he's flirting with no girl, but Spider-Man is saying this part out loud.
• 46:42
[SPEAKER_01]: He says, I boy asked you out, said if he squints hard enough, he can see you smile.
• 46:47
[SPEAKER_01]: Kids smoother than I thought.
• 46:49
[SPEAKER_01]: I have a nephew who later came out as gay, who at 12 had a girlfriend in school and would like walk her to class and leave her love poems in her locker.
• 46:57
[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, this is not a thing that straight boys do.
• 47:01
[SPEAKER_01]: I was giving very that energy.
• 47:04
  [SPEAKER_01]: So that's Spider-Man in the X-Men.
• 47:05
  [SPEAKER_01]: An excellent journey.
• 47:07
  [SPEAKER_01]: Keep us going.
• 47:08
[SPEAKER_01]: We jump through X-Men gold and then I would get featured again in Generation X volume two.
• 47:13
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so we get X-Men gold seven.
• 47:14
[SPEAKER_02]: This is the infamous issue where Kurt and Rachel Kiss.
• 47:18
[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks for making a chat.
• 47:22
[SPEAKER_02]: always have to revisit that moment again.
• 47:26
[SPEAKER_01]: Really it's for the trial of that crawler in January on Grimmolk and Lee.
• 47:30
[SPEAKER_02]: There's the story here is that there's a secret empire tie in.
• 47:34
[SPEAKER_02]: There's a dark forest dimension in Manhattan and there's a mutant serial killer on the on the list.
• 47:39
[SPEAKER_02]: A serial killer of mutants, not a mutant serial killer.
• 47:42
[SPEAKER_02]: He breaks into the mansion.
• 47:43
  [SPEAKER_02]: He finds I boy.
• 47:45
[SPEAKER_02]: He attacks him pretty violently.
• 47:47
[SPEAKER_02]: It looks like he might even have gouged one of his
• 47:50
  [SPEAKER_02]: face.
• 47:50
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a, there's an eye are knife pulled out and like the clear indication that he has used it to pluck one of the eyeball eyeballs out of I boys body.
• 47:59
  [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's pretty gross.
• 48:00
  [SPEAKER_02]: It's pretty gross.
• 48:01
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's really that's really the whole thing.
• 48:02
[SPEAKER_01]: And the character's like another panel.
• 48:04
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's it's a rough.
• 48:05
  [SPEAKER_01]: I don't like it.
• 48:06
  [SPEAKER_02]: It's pretty rough.
• 48:06
  [SPEAKER_02]: It's pretty rough.
• 48:07
[SPEAKER_02]: But skipping ahead to volume two generation X.
• 48:10
[SPEAKER_02]: This is this is a great book.
• 48:12
[SPEAKER_02]: And I love I love when people discover it.
• 48:15
[SPEAKER_02]: Excel attacks me when he was reading it.
• 48:17
[SPEAKER_02]: And it was like, this is a great run.
• 48:18
[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm like, this is a great run.
• 48:20
[SPEAKER_02]: This is a great book.
• 48:21
[SPEAKER_02]: So this is the Christina strain X generation X. I'm not sure why it's not usually talked about as a genuine volume two to generation X because it really is.
• 48:31
[SPEAKER_02]: There's kind of two parallel stories happening here.
• 48:33
[SPEAKER_02]: One is the reuniting of Jubilee, Chamber, Husk, and Monet, who is possessed by M Plate and is kind of the big bad of the story.
• 48:42
[SPEAKER_02]: And then the second storyline is Jubilee being tasked with basically another special class by Kitty.
• 48:48
[SPEAKER_02]: These are kids that are not going to be X-Men.
• 48:50
[SPEAKER_02]: We get I-Boy and Nature Girl, again, so there's some friendship happening there.
• 48:54
[SPEAKER_02]: Bling, kid omega, Benjamin Deeds more, and a new character hindsight as sort of the POV character.
• 49:00
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a really big cast, including the old Gen X kids, too.
• 49:04
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's a pretty queer book.
• 49:05
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
• 49:06
[SPEAKER_01]: And I boy has those eyes by the back by the way.
• 49:08
[SPEAKER_01]: So he saw a healer or he has some sort of... Yeah, he's got no trauma.
• 49:12
  [SPEAKER_02]: No trauma.
• 49:13
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, on a team with Quentin Choir who just sort of his meat and power is just like suck the panels, remember, everybody around him, bling who is a really good solid character arc in this run.
• 49:23
[SPEAKER_02]: I boy and nature girl kind of pair up and then fade to the background.
• 49:27
[SPEAKER_02]: So they are, I think background characters in this run, but he does get he does get a feature issue in this that's really all about him.
• 49:33
[SPEAKER_02]: So he spends most of the run really babysitting show go, which is really sweet, but he does get a feature issue.
• 49:38
[SPEAKER_00]: He gets to see Chambers Venus in it, which, you know, yes, not terrible.
• 49:43
[SPEAKER_02]: And it's also the only time we ever see anybody actually like training I boy.
• 49:49
[SPEAKER_02]: Jubilee has to again in front of in front of all the security cameras for the mansion and he's tracking six coins and and he only tracks five of them and she says you know concentrate harder I guess is the the trading that he gets and so he does and his eyes go bloodshot and he gets new powers right he suddenly can realize he can see more things
• 50:08
[SPEAKER_02]: It's also the first time to get confirmation that he has 57 eyes.
• 50:11
[SPEAKER_02]: That's that's tan and it is, it is a number.
• 50:14
[SPEAKER_02]: And he says, if my 55 57 eyes can't keep track of six measly chips, how am I ever going to prove Jubilee and everyone else that I deserve to be here?
• 50:21
[SPEAKER_02]: That I'm useful, that I can be more than just some upscale mall security guard.
• 50:25
[SPEAKER_02]: He concentrates very hard while looking at the screens and can suddenly see through close.
• 50:29
[SPEAKER_02]: And so he finds the sixth coin in a very naked chambers pocket and immediately sort of covers his eyes.
• 50:38
[SPEAKER_01]: And we also get the single best I boy image ever, maybe, where it's the cover of Gen X Volume 2 No.
• 50:44
[SPEAKER_01]: 5, it's I boy covering his eyes with his hands, but his hands also have eyes on them.
• 50:49
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's delicious.
• 50:51
[SPEAKER_01]: It might end up being the cover card of this episode, actually.
• 50:53
  [SPEAKER_01]: I like it a lot.
• 50:54
  [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, it's like it's a great cover.
• 50:56
[SPEAKER_02]: So he's immediately freaked out by seeing through his professors close and then he goes to the cafeteria and meets everybody for lunch and things to last thing I need or what is for my eyes to make me even more of it.
• 51:07
  [SPEAKER_02]: I'm not just weird.
• 51:08
[SPEAKER_02]: And so the storyline, this is issue five where he gets he's really the featured character in this.
• 51:14
[SPEAKER_02]: Bling mentions there's a ring missing suddenly there's there's things going missing in the issue and there's a great page Viboy just suddenly seeing seeing nervous systems seeing feelings seeing seeing through walls Everything except nature girl they get a moment on a bench earlier in issue five where he's sitting next to nature girl And he's just opening up to her she says why are you telling me all this because for some reason Lynn you're the only one who looks normal to me
• 51:41
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how to explain this to Jubilee without telling her that I've seen things and know things that I shouldn't.
• 51:46
[SPEAKER_01]: Things like, Johnnell's got Smith-Slerics tattooed on his hip.
• 51:50
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, way down his hip.
• 51:52
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I now know the cut of his jib down.
• 51:55
[SPEAKER_00]: Or uncut of his jib, he is British.
• 51:58
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's in cut of his job.
• 51:59
[SPEAKER_01]: And I know everyone already thinks I'm weird and kind of useless, Linn, and that's fine, I'm used to it.
• 52:06
[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't want anyone to see me as the creepy kid with a million eyes who can't control whether or not he sees through their clothes.
• 52:13
  [SPEAKER_01]: Because I'm not a perve.
• 52:14
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to have to look at people's toes for the rest of my life.
• 52:18
[SPEAKER_02]: So these powers are really leveling up and on the fritz and nature girl Lin is the one he sort of confides in.
• 52:24
[SPEAKER_02]: And at this moment too, when they're sitting on the bench, he suddenly sees a raccoon, steel rock slides wallet.
• 52:29
[SPEAKER_02]: He and Lin give chase and catch him.
• 52:32
[SPEAKER_02]: They find out the raccoon is being hypnotized and to paying his dues to the raccoon, who is the animal Don of Central Park, we're told.
• 52:40
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's a nature girl villain, right?
• 52:42
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
• 52:42
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's a silly side character.
• 52:44
[SPEAKER_02]: Trevor and Lynn kind of have a team up solo adventure.
• 52:46
[SPEAKER_02]: They go down to the source.
• 52:47
[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of Gen X volume two happens in the source.
• 52:50
[SPEAKER_02]: They're down there a lot in this series.
• 52:52
[SPEAKER_02]: Trevor decides they've got to do something about this rat king who's stealing everybody's things or animals that are stealing everybody's things to pay the rat king.
• 53:01
[SPEAKER_01]: And he gets a brave heart moment.
• 53:03
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he does this giant brave heart speech and all the animals come out to see it.
• 53:08
[SPEAKER_02]: And so you don't really know whether he's actually commanding that attention or maybe nature grows like assisting a little bit.
• 53:14
[SPEAKER_02]: That all the like the rats and birds and things come to hear him give this big speech, but it's very cute.
• 53:19
[SPEAKER_02]: So they go down to the stores and the rat king uses nature girls fluency and animal speak to also hypnotize her just as he did the other animals and and she then attacks Trevor and he's kind of on his own fighting the rat king takes a deep breath and sort of dials in and he could suddenly see the whole picture like like Jubilee said just sort of concentrate harder see the whole picture and he sees through the rat king's power and he's just like some weird dude with a flute and a plastic crown who turns out to be the papers
• 53:47
[SPEAKER_02]: Sun who I looked up has a whopping six appearances.
• 53:50
  [SPEAKER_02]: He's a he's a morlock.
• 53:51
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, there's two pipers.
• 53:52
[SPEAKER_01]: One of the savages when mutates as well.
• 53:54
[SPEAKER_01]: Trevor breaks this guy's flute.
• 53:56
[SPEAKER_01]: I think I was like, do you know who my dad is?
• 53:58
[SPEAKER_01]: My dad's the piper and he's like, do I look like I care about who your dad is?
• 54:03
[SPEAKER_01]: No one wants to hear your stupid, de-list villain backstory, which is
• 54:07
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's a great moment for him.
• 54:08
  [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's cute, it's cute.
• 54:10
[SPEAKER_02]: And so they beat the bad guy.
• 54:12
[SPEAKER_02]: He and nature girl go back top side and they're talking, and he's really excited.
• 54:15
  [SPEAKER_02]: He had this adventure.
• 54:16
[SPEAKER_02]: He beat the bad guy.
• 54:17
[SPEAKER_02]: He was like the main guy, you know?
• 54:19
[SPEAKER_02]: And so he's telling Lynn, and he's excited to tell everybody else, but she's embarrassed that she got hypnotized and punched him in the face.
• 54:26
[SPEAKER_02]: And so he agrees to not tell everybody the story of what happened, and it's kind of their little secret of what happens.
• 54:32
[SPEAKER_02]: So it's a really low stakes adventure that's really sweet, but it's also, I think,
• 54:35
[SPEAKER_02]: I think really the only, the only issue that is, it's really his.
• 54:40
[SPEAKER_01]: Lynn tells him, if you don't tell anyone about the rat king, I won't tell anyone you saw Chambers wedding bells.
• 54:45
[SPEAKER_01]: And he goes, oh yeah, I almost forgot about that.
• 54:51
[SPEAKER_02]: He ends a babysitting show go for for most of the rest of the run and it's cute.
• 54:55
[SPEAKER_02]: He and nature girl are really teamed up.
• 54:57
[SPEAKER_02]: And so occasionally they have to pass the baby off to a possum who's also raising babies and and so there's they just sort of passed this baby around for the rest of the issue.
• 55:06
[SPEAKER_01]: I boy, if you don't love him already, I've already, I don't know, if you're listening everyone, notice that you've got a big smile on your face at this point, right?
• 55:14
[SPEAKER_01]: Like this character is very charming.
• 55:16
[SPEAKER_01]: Then we go weird because we have to jump to Venomized.
• 55:19
[SPEAKER_01]: This is when someone gets a symbiote, there is an alternate race called the Venoms that
• 55:25
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so like Joshua, if you had a symbiotic over your form and then a poison hit you, the poison would then like feed on the symbiot and then take over you and you've lost your like your dead, but you're also a poison.
• 55:38
[SPEAKER_01]: This is a weird X-Men book that results in the death of Jean Grey at the end of it again, like people don't remember this, but I boy get some weird moments in the venomized series.
• 55:49
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I just have, he got, he gets shot with the symbiote in issue one and then we get a brief glint in him later in issue four.
• 55:58
[SPEAKER_02]: And to be honest, there's a lot of the minimize designs are kind of cool.
• 56:02
[SPEAKER_02]: They're very like anime Gundam kind of things.
• 56:04
[SPEAKER_02]: And I always just sort of all black with like these blue slits.
• 56:08
[SPEAKER_02]: Like it's not even really a fun venomized eyeball egg.
• 56:11
[SPEAKER_01]: But remember that time, I boy got a symbiote everybody because that's a
• 56:17
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, man, Logan Vore, it's Ed Bryson.
• 56:18
[SPEAKER_02]: Glob kind of gets catfished on a date and comes back with like a suicide bomb and blows up the mansion.
• 56:25
  [SPEAKER_02]: It's the purifiers.
• 56:26
[SPEAKER_02]: It's kind of always the purifiers, right?
• 56:28
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, to be clear, Glob did not commit suicide.
• 56:30
[SPEAKER_01]: He was turned into a human bomb by the purifiers.
• 56:33
  [SPEAKER_02]: Correct.
• 56:33
  [SPEAKER_02]: Correct.
• 56:34
[SPEAKER_02]: He was baited to this date, then they kidnapped the date, made him go back to the mansion with this bomb.
• 56:39
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the first recounting was kind of like golf got stood up on a date, so he blew up the mansion.
• 56:44
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
• 56:44
[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe not the full story.
• 56:45
[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe not the full story.
• 56:46
[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe not the full story.
• 56:48
[SPEAKER_02]: So he, so it's the purifiers, but it's, it's, you get back to the mansion.
• 56:52
  [SPEAKER_02]: It's I boy.
• 56:53
[SPEAKER_02]: It's nature girl point in earth.
• 56:55
  [SPEAKER_02]: It's no girl.
• 56:56
[SPEAKER_02]: So it's the special class group that just seems to flow through a bunch of these books as a class.
• 57:02
[SPEAKER_02]: They get locked in the danger room while all this happening because the purifiers are there, the big guns are out taking care of it.
• 57:08
[SPEAKER_02]: Nature girl and I boy break out of the danger room to get it in on the action and are just immediately grabbed by purifiers and held hostage.
• 57:15
[SPEAKER_02]: Luckily they're saved by glob, but the good guys win and everybody pitches and clean up the mansion.
• 57:20
[SPEAKER_01]: And then we'll wrap up your section with Domino annual one.
• 57:23
[SPEAKER_01]: This is a Leo Williams story.
• 57:25
  [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
• 57:26
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so this is fun.
• 57:27
[SPEAKER_02]: This is a this is an anthology issue of Domino moments.
• 57:31
[SPEAKER_02]: There is a Leo Williams joint where it's basically a support group for non-passing mutants.
• 57:37
[SPEAKER_02]: Nightcrawler is leading a mindfulness for mutant appearances and there's some really great appearances.
• 57:42
[SPEAKER_02]: It's it's iboy, dupe, maggot, marrow, beak is there.
• 57:46
  [SPEAKER_02]: Bling, toad is it
• 57:55
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there's some deep cuts.
• 57:56
[SPEAKER_02]: And so it's sort of alcohol, it's an anonymous style.
• 57:59
[SPEAKER_02]: They're all in folding chairs in a circle.
• 58:01
[SPEAKER_02]: And night-collar asks everybody to share an experience they had with being a non-passing mutant.
• 58:07
[SPEAKER_02]: And I boy just says it was basically a pelvic floor exam, which I don't even know what that means.
• 58:14
[SPEAKER_02]: What if I miss it?
• 58:15
[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe he's still thinking about Chambers penis.
• 58:19
  [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, maybe that's it.
• 58:20
[SPEAKER_02]: I bet that is it, honestly.
• 58:22
[SPEAKER_00]: In that issue, everybody gets like one panel and they're saying something in the middle of their story and you just have to get it from context foods.
• 58:28
[SPEAKER_01]: And then, okay, there's something people love about this character because here he is in another featured role.
• 58:33
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a thousand units to choose from and this is a character that keeps getting picked.
• 58:37
[SPEAKER_01]: X-Man has created the age of X-Man where sex is not allowed and like everybody is like a mutant who
• 58:44
[SPEAKER_01]: is living in a weird kind of 1984 society.
• 58:48
[SPEAKER_00]: It's an odd little series and we get a five-issue limited called apocalypse in the extracts.
• 58:54
[SPEAKER_01]: Now I'll give a little context here because the things get complicated quickly.
• 58:57
[SPEAKER_01]: There is a clone of apocalypse.
• 58:59
[SPEAKER_01]: who was a child, and his name is Evan, but he goes by Genesis.
• 59:03
  [SPEAKER_01]: And there's a lot of clues.
• 59:04
[SPEAKER_01]: He's like a kid on the team.
• 59:05
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like a apocalypse junior, like as of one of the X-Men for a long time, like he's a sustained character through a lot of this, uh, the same history like with Iboy and just giving you a little context because we're going to talk about apocalypse over in this weird world.
• 59:18
  [SPEAKER_01]: And, uh, it's a strange one.
• 59:20
[SPEAKER_01]: Excel tell us about apocalypse in the extracts.
• 59:23
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh boy, I didn't really care for it when I first read it.
• 59:25
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think Age of Expen is a particularly beloved event, but there are some really fun things to find in it and some things that to like, I really enjoyed the series, particularly after the reveal.
• 59:39
[SPEAKER_00]: in kind of in hindsight, the first couple of issues didn't really have me, but there's a significant amount of buy-in for the event and for the premise of the series.
• 59:47
[SPEAKER_00]: But if you buy-in to it, it makes the maybe more confusing or kind of like off-putting parts of the beginning feel but better in my opinion.
• 59:54
[SPEAKER_00]: This is in the age of X-man.
• 59:56
[SPEAKER_01]: Hang on, I just remembered this is the issue where I will kiss his kitty pride.
• 1:00:00
  [SPEAKER_00]: It is.
• 1:00:01
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh no, I forgot about this.
• 1:00:03
  [SPEAKER_00]: I hate it.
• 1:00:03
  [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, go ahead.
• 1:00:04
  [SPEAKER_00]: I hate it too, and it's like a, it's a thing.
• 1:00:06
[SPEAKER_00]: So like the premise of Apocalypse and the X-Rex like team is they are like the antithesis of everything that X-Man is, is trying to do like their like X-Man is no love, no intimacy, no affection or whatever.
• 1:00:19
[SPEAKER_00]: Apocalypse is essentially leading a group of like free love hippies.
• 1:00:22
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is a Tim Seely book.
• 1:00:24
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's fun.
• 1:00:24
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's it's really fun read.
• 1:00:26
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's it's a wild premise.
• 1:00:28
[SPEAKER_00]: I boy and Kitty Prider out on a adventure or mission.
• 1:00:33
[SPEAKER_00]: Kitty Pride finds a menorah and she doesn't know what a menorah is because like all of like the religion has been erased and and all that and then at one point I boy plants one on her.
• 1:00:42
[SPEAKER_00]: She's basically like, uh, no, like I get that we're all like free love, but I really want this to be special and he's like, oh, sorry.
• 1:00:51
  [SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's going on.
• 1:00:52
  [SPEAKER_01]: He's looking this world.
• 1:00:53
  [SPEAKER_01]: There's just like a black suit.
• 1:00:54
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like very men in black, but he wears sunglasses over his two main eyes and then all the other eyes on his face are still out.
• 1:01:00
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad they didn't give him like five pairs of sunglasses on his face.
• 1:01:03
[SPEAKER_00]: I suppose I boy wearing a single pair of regular sunglasses over where his two that where your eyes usually are super weird.
• 1:01:13
[SPEAKER_00]: They get the weird joy and I think I like him with long hair or the crop tear that we see it of his like future eye man self.
• 1:01:18
[SPEAKER_00]: This like weird in between part like kind of where my hair is right now is not really working for me.
• 1:01:23
[SPEAKER_01]: And the shock to the limit this series is a mega red.
• 1:01:26
[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, in order to further our goals, we need to go capture a mega red or like make friends with the mega red.
• 1:01:32
  [SPEAKER_00]: It's really strange.
• 1:01:33
[SPEAKER_00]: So he sends you them out.
• 1:01:35
[SPEAKER_00]: So there on this team is like a
• 1:01:39
[SPEAKER_00]: And like talks like it too and then there's I'm forgetting her name now But she's a new character.
• 1:01:44
[SPEAKER_00]: She can turn into like this like colorful mist unveil is her name And she can kind of like reveal like you know memories or emotions or whatever to people if you like breathe her in and then Five-boy kitty and then Evan Zabinore and Evan is trying to prove himself to basically what's drawn is like Twink-bodied fuckboy Xavier in a apocalypse drag.
• 1:02:03
  [SPEAKER_01]: That's actually a really apt description
• 1:02:06
[SPEAKER_00]: I would get to six shooters back here again too.
• 1:02:10
  [SPEAKER_00]: He does.
• 1:02:11
[SPEAKER_00]: Again, I read this before I went and revisited Wolverine X-Men and I thought it was a really really weird choice in this book to give him guns, but I see where it's coming from now and it makes a little bit more sense.
• 1:02:21
[SPEAKER_00]: I think this book makes more sense if you kind of skip to the end and then go backwards a little bit.
• 1:02:27
[SPEAKER_00]: Apocalypse was chosen by X-Men to be the villain in this
• 1:02:31
[SPEAKER_00]: pocket reality that he created.
• 1:02:33
[SPEAKER_00]: And then apocalypse is kind of like lying to these this group that he has assembled.
• 1:02:38
[SPEAKER_00]: He calls him his light writers instead of this like dark writers or or anything like that.
• 1:02:43
[SPEAKER_00]: He's kind of lying to them, but it's because he is either has seen the past versions like the six one six versions of himself or he still remembers it and then through.
• 1:02:54
[SPEAKER_00]: has found what it means to love and doesn't want to go back.
• 1:02:58
[SPEAKER_00]: So you want to like stay in this world.
• 1:03:00
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a weird thing to have apocalypse do.
• 1:03:03
[SPEAKER_00]: If you buy into it, it makes the whole story make a whole lot more sense though.
• 1:03:07
[SPEAKER_00]: Trevor does get one key moment where he does.
• 1:03:09
[SPEAKER_01]: got all these eyes, right?
• 1:03:10
[SPEAKER_01]: And they help me see better than everyone else.
• 1:03:13
[SPEAKER_01]: I can see microwaves and dustmights and the twitch of someone's face before they're going to throw a punch.
• 1:03:19
[SPEAKER_01]: And when he talks about seeing the clarity of the truth of reality, he says, when I finally saw the truth and everything, it hurt like looking at the sun after spending years in the dark.
• 1:03:27
[SPEAKER_01]: Yet hurt so much I almost died.
• 1:03:29
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I think that's a big, a big character moment for Trevor, because I wasn't on board until that moment, because Trevor's just kind of like being a dick to Evan for no reason, apparently.
• 1:03:38
[SPEAKER_00]: And then, you know, trust the writer, they'll get you there, you read this point.
• 1:03:42
[SPEAKER_00]: And what he's saying there is that his whole thing is eyes and being able to see everything and the X men, like kind of pull the wool over
• 1:03:49
[SPEAKER_00]: all of the size and then they also made him compromise himself morally.
• 1:03:53
[SPEAKER_00]: And so that's what that was the big issue and his issue with Evan was that he had to go through all of that and Evan didn't have to go through any of that.
• 1:04:01
[SPEAKER_00]: He just kind of like got plucked from an incubator and like turned into baby apocalypse.
• 1:04:05
[SPEAKER_00]: And they have some conversation around that.
• 1:04:06
[SPEAKER_00]: So it gives more context to it.
• 1:04:08
[SPEAKER_01]: So then we have Krakowa happen and we have teams divided up and Leo Williams gets him an X-factor.
• 1:04:13
[SPEAKER_01]: We first see him though in giant size X-men night crawler, which is the fun appearance for him.
• 1:04:17
[SPEAKER_01]: Then we lead into X-factor and then trial of Magneto.
• 1:04:20
[SPEAKER_01]: So like so keep taking us on his modern journey.
• 1:04:22
[SPEAKER_00]: Something going out with the mansion, they've kind of vexed the band and the mansion for Krakowa at this point.
• 1:04:27
[SPEAKER_00]: Ellen Davis art with modern coloring, which is never my favorite pairing.
• 1:04:31
[SPEAKER_00]: I really like Ellen Davis art.
• 1:04:32
[SPEAKER_00]: I like it with like some flatter colors, but other than that, I think it's a fun showing for I-Boy.
• 1:04:38
[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody has I-Boy jokes in this issue.
• 1:04:40
[SPEAKER_00]: You get a whole lot of that.
• 1:04:41
[SPEAKER_00]: I believe this is written by Hickman, right?
• 1:04:43
[SPEAKER_00]: It turns out the mansion is overrun by, uh, trying to think of the name of it.
• 1:04:47
[SPEAKER_00]: My brain is going to be weird.
• 1:04:48
  [SPEAKER_00]: This is a dream.
• 1:04:49
  [SPEAKER_00]: This is a dream.
• 1:04:50
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I have a sugary episode out there with Jeff Christians that you can go listen to.
• 1:04:54
[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, so yeah, the the mansion is overrun by them.
• 1:04:56
[SPEAKER_00]: A bunch of weird nightmare type shenanigans happen, and then they leave the mansion to the sugary.
• 1:05:01
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I boy gets to use his powers there.
• 1:05:03
[SPEAKER_00]: And then, not only think that like really pushes the character forward, but it does kind of like establish him a bit on cracoa, um, as a very useful person to have around before we get into
• 1:05:18
[SPEAKER_00]: I, in my opinion, series that came out of Fukawa, it fires on all cylinders, the writing and the artwork so well together.
• 1:05:25
  [SPEAKER_00]: It's echo queer.
• 1:05:26
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the premise here is there are now resurrection protocols.
• 1:05:29
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a new government and North Star has been tasked to put together a team.
• 1:05:33
[SPEAKER_01]: So like when someone needs to be resurrected, they need confirmation of death.
• 1:05:36
[SPEAKER_01]: Or they need to look up what happened to a person rather than just bringing them back to life.
• 1:05:40
[SPEAKER_01]: They may not remember what happened at the end of their life.
• 1:05:43
[SPEAKER_01]: So this is the investigation team for the resurrection protocols.
• 1:05:46
[SPEAKER_00]: And it comes about in issue one because Aurora Northstar's sister, twin sister, has died.
• 1:05:53
[SPEAKER_00]: And he can tell that she's died, but he doesn't have proof of that.
• 1:05:55
[SPEAKER_00]: So he's running around, trying to convince everybody that can help on the island to do something about it.
• 1:06:01
[SPEAKER_00]: And when they all, like in his world, in his words, fail him.
• 1:06:04
[SPEAKER_00]: He ends up at the bar talking to blob and then hilarious is there.
• 1:06:08
[SPEAKER_00]: And she's just like, hey, you're going about this all wrong.
• 1:06:11
[SPEAKER_00]: And they team up to basically handle the situation themselves and get anybody that can help.
• 1:06:16
[SPEAKER_00]: And there's a wonderful panel of them.
• 1:06:18
[SPEAKER_00]: They name a bunch of like a few people that they think and help.
• 1:06:20
[SPEAKER_00]: And then they're like, can we think of anything out?
• 1:06:22
[SPEAKER_00]: Anybody else, they go to this other panel.
• 1:06:24
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just eyed boys sitting there looking so pleased with himself putting Google eyes on his crock.
• 1:06:29
[SPEAKER_00]: And they're like, yeah, I can't think of anybody.
• 1:06:31
[SPEAKER_00]: And then they put out a flyer to see if anybody can help and then he ends up showing up at like the last moment when they're leaving for co-author for co-engate and like bumps into them Doc ends a bit mean to them for a little bit and players defense him and which I think starts one of my favorites aspects is like Rachel and Polaris are like so protective of this they like they love they love Trevor they're like they kind of take him under their wing a little bit Which I think is very very cute
• 1:06:57
[SPEAKER_01]: So Trevor has a specific journey.
• 1:06:58
  [SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of plotlines happening.
• 1:07:00
[SPEAKER_00]: This is the start of him doing what I would call like benevolent manipulation.
• 1:07:05
[SPEAKER_00]: He and which I actually think we see early on and we'll bring the Xman when he like calls out all the tiny things that he's seeing and everybody's movement and then like immediately backtracks and says, like, oh, I just thought it would be something cool to say.
• 1:07:17
[SPEAKER_00]: We see this when Doc and his hit about to like hit on Aurora.
• 1:07:21
[SPEAKER_00]: He puts himself in between them and introduces him to Aurora and just goes, hi, I'm I boy.
• 1:07:26
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's super, super cute.
• 1:07:27
[SPEAKER_00]: And you can write it off as something that is like him just being like innocent.
• 1:07:31
[SPEAKER_00]: But then you find out later that he really kind of like sometimes puts on this act, not in any way that he's being disingenuous, but that he's kind of like, he can see when somebody's gonna cross a boundary.
• 1:07:42
[SPEAKER_00]: You can see when someone's gonna cross a line.
• 1:07:43
[SPEAKER_00]: And he's kind of being a bit protective of that
• 1:07:47
[SPEAKER_00]: which I think is a really fun use for it.
• 1:07:50
[SPEAKER_01]: His vibe in this book is, I mean, they're living on an island.
• 1:07:53
[SPEAKER_01]: So like cover of two shows him with like a bandana and like a floral shirt, like a jacket and his hair is long.
• 1:07:59
[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of giving California hippie in some of his appearances.
• 1:08:02
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Leo often points up at the paints him as kind of he's like Vapid he's skit, skit weren't around the background.
• 1:08:08
[SPEAKER_01]: People think he's nice and not paying attention, but really he's watching everything.
• 1:08:12
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, yeah, and he's just happy to be there too.
• 1:08:14
[SPEAKER_00]: Like he's just he's so happy to be there and it's very silly.
• 1:08:18
[SPEAKER_00]: He's he's continues his being the person to invest in somebody new and invite him in like when is it appropriate to call him wrong slide?
• 1:08:26
[SPEAKER_00]: That was like his name in the books that felt like kind of like okay.
• 1:08:30
[SPEAKER_00]: wrong slide go y'all let you look up wrong slide on your own when wrong slide comes in like he kind of he just like the friends in and he like shows him around and he's like oh my god he's like a week old like that's like make sure he's okay which is just like he said best boy yeah he says as soon as they find out he's a week old he says happy birthday we already love you so much
• 1:08:54
  [SPEAKER_00]: So good.
• 1:08:54
[SPEAKER_00]: He also he can see everything he until when somebody's lying, but he also gives people a little bit of runway to kind of like see what you're going to do like when Polaris is lying when prodigy is lying If for like or whatever reasons they are he's like he clocks it and then he goes I'm going to wait a minute and see what they do and then if it looks like they're like going to do something that's actually harmful.
• 1:09:14
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll call it up and stop it, but he gives people to privacy and I think that's a really important aspect of him.
• 1:09:19
[SPEAKER_01]: He's been to the Savage Land multiple times.
• 1:09:21
[SPEAKER_01]: He goes to the Mojoverse another time in this issue where the Mojoverse here has been like Twitterized, which is a brilliant and almost painful story to read by Leo Williams and this, but Trevor sees a comment online where someone's like, there's a whole mutant just made out of eyes, which made me smile for him as well.
• 1:09:39
[SPEAKER_02]: as they turn into like basically a CSI team, right?
• 1:09:43
[SPEAKER_02]: When they investigating these deaths, sometimes at the scene of the crime, he starts to call the things that he can see his tiny secrets, which I thought was really nice.
• 1:09:52
[SPEAKER_02]: So all the things he can see about the changes in heat signatures or trace elements of this or that, he starts to call this tiny secrets.
• 1:09:59
[SPEAKER_02]: And he and prodigy kind of go back and forth on that.
• 1:10:02
  [SPEAKER_02]: which is pretty cute.
• 1:10:04
[SPEAKER_02]: He also an issue six after they are the team interrogates Siren to try to find out why she keeps dying.
• 1:10:11
[SPEAKER_02]: And she's thrown out of the interrogation and everybody kind of realizes she's lying because the whole team is based around CSI stuff.
• 1:10:18
[SPEAKER_02]: It's also the first time on panel we get like an on panel explanation of what his powers are as it breaks down for for Rachel and Doc and in prodigy too, but it says nearly limitless varieties of spectral visions, including a powerful natural ability to read people be a micro expressions body language and nonverbal cues no matter how subtle living lie detector profound psychological intuition and an expert profiler as a result.
• 1:10:43
[SPEAKER_02]: So I thought that was kind of interesting that it's the first time we actually get that sort of clear montian blur of what their powers are.
• 1:10:49
[SPEAKER_01]: He gets some good one-lighters through this as well.
• 1:10:51
[SPEAKER_01]: And then we have to talk about the craziest thing that's ever happened to this character.
• 1:10:55
[SPEAKER_01]: Like so, what are your thoughts on Iowa's Hellfire Gala look?
• 1:10:59
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god, it's such a good look at this like low cut.
• 1:11:02
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like a kind of skirt kind of dress like I don't know how much above of the waist you have to have something b before you can call it a dress But like we'll call it a gown it this golden almost like woven type of like rope with a bunch of eyes on it He's basically bare-chested has his eyes out all the time and he looks gorgeous and somehow It's ready in like five minutes because he's just skateboarding around the whole time and then they're like travel
• 1:11:26
[SPEAKER_00]: or you have to get ready.
• 1:11:28
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm expecting this cosplay from you.
• 1:11:30
[SPEAKER_01]: You guys can do Ibuay double features.
• 1:11:33
[SPEAKER_02]: I want to give a shout out to Sam Canyon, who did this cosplay at Flame Con last year and it was incredible.
• 1:11:40
  [SPEAKER_02]: It was so good.
• 1:11:41
  [SPEAKER_01]: I missed it.
• 1:11:42
  [SPEAKER_01]: That sounds amazing.
• 1:11:43
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to look for it like it.
• 1:11:44
[SPEAKER_01]: I boy gets a giant head in the back of X-Factor or will you number seven here?
• 1:11:49
[SPEAKER_01]: And his eyes are drawn so big that this image of him makes me uncomfortable.
• 1:11:54
[SPEAKER_01]: like when they draw his there's one appearance where they like draw the eye on his forehead really giant but all the rest of his eyes are like a normal size.
• 1:12:01
[SPEAKER_02]: In next factor this is the first time we get a visual representation of I boys power he starts to get these like these bubbles these connecting bubbles around when he's thinking about something so we know Leo Williams is killing it on this the David Baldyin who's the artist is amazing but really like Israel Silva
• 1:12:21
[SPEAKER_02]: crushing it like it's magic.
• 1:12:23
[SPEAKER_02]: So he starts to get all of these like purple connecting, you know, like the like the whiteboard in the back with with everything tied together.
• 1:12:30
[SPEAKER_02]: It's kind of referential of that.
• 1:12:31
[SPEAKER_02]: But it's the first time we get a visual representation of his powers, which is really cool.
• 1:12:35
[SPEAKER_01]: We, there's a, there's a full page image of him like in the, in like a swirling, like section of, it's almost like he's standing in a waterfall, like it, it's, it's, it's a really beautiful imagery of him.
• 1:12:45
[SPEAKER_00]: It takes your breath away, and in one moment that I really love that we get this data page basically of Xavier sending, like a nice, gentle, well-meaning message to North Star's saying like, oh, you're doing so well with your team, and I hear like, I boy has some upgrades, and I'd love to know more about it and North Star just sends back, no.
• 1:13:05
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, he's not gonna give him any information and I haven't my notes that I was like, North Star said, suck it, you bubble headed,
• 1:13:16
[SPEAKER_00]: like he has no time for him and I love it.
• 1:13:18
[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody go look up Trevor in his Hellfire Gala look.
• 1:13:22
[SPEAKER_01]: There's one one page where he's standing next to prodigy who's also in that gorgeous like low cut.
• 1:13:28
[SPEAKER_01]: Trevor's looking toned and sexy here and he's got his hair up and it's fantastic.
• 1:13:33
[SPEAKER_01]: This is the image I would date him in.
• 1:13:36
[SPEAKER_01]: Like where this all the time please.
• 1:13:39
[SPEAKER_01]: So then they had a big story plan for trial of Magneto and Marvel liked it so much that canceled her book so that they could launch it into a new limited series boo.
• 1:13:50
  [SPEAKER_00]: It's good, it's good, it's really interesting.
• 1:13:52
[SPEAKER_00]: It does have like a feel of like there's some parts of it that just like feel like meddling, like Marvel was meddling in her story a bit and I don't know what parts of that's a general feel of it like if you're comparing it to X-Factor.
• 1:14:05
[SPEAKER_00]: I boys is like in the background for most of it.
• 1:14:09
[SPEAKER_01]: We just remembered at the end of X-Factor, I boy, did magic.
• 1:14:13
[SPEAKER_01]: Do you guys remember that?
• 1:14:13
[SPEAKER_01]: So right at the end of the run, if he's showing prodigy, he's learned how to move his hands in different shapes.
• 1:14:20
[SPEAKER_01]: And he had to like a wall of those purple eyes out in like a big power move.
• 1:14:24
  [SPEAKER_00]: I almost forgot.
• 1:14:25
[SPEAKER_01]: That would have been terrible to forget.
• 1:14:27
[SPEAKER_00]: And he's like a laser eye moment.
• 1:14:28
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he in prodigy.
• 1:14:29
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's not laser eye.
• 1:14:30
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's a magic eye.
• 1:14:31
[SPEAKER_00]: But it looks like, yeah, but it shoots basically shoots like a magic laser.
• 1:14:36
[SPEAKER_00]: It's what it looks like.
• 1:14:37
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a big amp up for him, and we've never seen it again.
• 1:14:40
  [SPEAKER_00]: We haven't.
• 1:14:41
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we haven't seen him again since except for the Hellfire vigil.
• 1:14:44
[SPEAKER_00]: We haven't seen him again after Africa, which is a shame.
• 1:14:47
[SPEAKER_00]: I hope he pops up an age of revelation in some interesting, fun way.
• 1:14:52
[SPEAKER_01]: And we do get some really cute moments with him in prodigy.
• 1:14:55
[SPEAKER_01]: I mentioned earlier, he doesn't have a lot of key relationships, but prodigy, that friendship with prodigy is pretty solid, I think.
• 1:15:00
[SPEAKER_00]: You get to see that when they're just like kind of like, just in coming in from off panel in their mid-conversation, you can tell they're just like having a great time, or I boy asks prodigy to read to him.
• 1:15:11
  [SPEAKER_00]: Um, I forget what he's reading.
• 1:15:12
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like a book about trees or something.
• 1:15:14
[SPEAKER_00]: And he's like, no, just like, can you just read to me?
• 1:15:16
[SPEAKER_00]: Because your voice is great and simply does.
• 1:15:18
[SPEAKER_00]: And I boy's just sitting there like, uh, like,
• 1:15:22
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's cute.
• 1:15:23
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's really cute.
• 1:15:24
  [SPEAKER_01]: I like you.
• 1:15:24
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's okay.
• 1:15:24
[SPEAKER_01]: Back to trial in Magneto.
• 1:15:26
[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, looking at my notes for, like, he forever moments or trial with my needle.
• 1:15:30
  [SPEAKER_00]: And I don't, I don't have a law.
• 1:15:32
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's the X-back of the rap part of the song.
• 1:15:35
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
• 1:15:35
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
• 1:15:36
[SPEAKER_00]: It's an interesting book because it does introduce the, I'm blanking now in what it's called, basically, Scarlett, which creates like a waiting room, all the mutants that didn't get a backup.
• 1:15:44
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's how we get access to like John Proud star and stuff like that.
• 1:15:47
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's a really interesting book from that perspective.
• 1:15:50
  [SPEAKER_00]: Just,
• 1:15:50
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I've always just kind of, they are most of the time.
• 1:15:52
  [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
• 1:15:53
[SPEAKER_01]: Now remember his old friend, Nature Girl.
• 1:15:55
[SPEAKER_01]: She gets a crazy arc.
• 1:15:56
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, this is a girl who has antlers and like, is kind of portrayed as like quite neurodivergent artistic almost, but also, uh, like talks to animals and it's just kind of odd.
• 1:16:07
[SPEAKER_01]: She gets, she goes dark.
• 1:16:09
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, she gets like cursed and goes like on a murder spree against like people who, it's, it's nuts.
• 1:16:14
[SPEAKER_00]: So at this particular point, this next story, she's had her antlers shaved off, she's gone like golf, golf got goat legs at this point pretty much.
• 1:16:22
[SPEAKER_00]: She's an eco terrorist now.
• 1:16:24
[SPEAKER_00]: She was kind of cursed by cursed, who has, isn't a child mutant with a cursed power.
• 1:16:29
[SPEAKER_00]: That's about as well as I can explain it to beyond.
• 1:16:31
  [SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
• 1:16:34
[SPEAKER_00]: And so he he knows everybody's looking for her.
• 1:16:37
[SPEAKER_00]: He keeps them off her back and shows up to kind of try to reason with her like saying like hey like we go way back.
• 1:16:43
[SPEAKER_00]: I know you this isn't you like you need to like see like take a step back and see that like
• 1:16:56
  [SPEAKER_00]: It's brutal.
• 1:16:57
[SPEAKER_00]: It really is like he goes in like and she has no remorse and there's no follow-up But no, there's like one panel of her looking a little guilty and then she right like the stony face goes right back up So we don't we legit don't know like if he got resurrected again before Krakowah If I see him or if he's still armless Well, we see him in the Hellfire vigil and he's like he's just in the background with like a candle or something like that So we do know he's there.
• 1:17:20
  [SPEAKER_00]: He's around.
• 1:17:20
  [SPEAKER_02]: He's got it.
• 1:17:21
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, if he has both arms
• 1:17:23
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, like he doesn't appear to have both arms in it.
• 1:17:26
  [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
• 1:17:26
  [SPEAKER_01]: All right.
• 1:17:27
[SPEAKER_01]: So we're fond of this character.
• 1:17:28
[SPEAKER_00]: I can tell I'm going to kind of give us three final sections to talk about here and then we'll ask for any tangents.
• 1:17:33
[SPEAKER_01]: So number one, let's focus on eyeball for for just a moment focusing on what has happened to this character.
• 1:17:39
[SPEAKER_01]: Excel, would you rather get a black eye or get vomit in your eye?
• 1:17:43
[SPEAKER_00]: A black eye looks way cooler.
• 1:17:45
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, Joshua, would you rather be unable to look away from something very unpleasant?
• 1:17:51
[SPEAKER_01]: We want to assume it's like parents having sex kind of energy.
• 1:17:54
  [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, okay.
• 1:17:55
[SPEAKER_01]: Or have all of your eyes pinned open and be made to watch the real housewives of the Potomac for an entire season.
• 1:18:03
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, a whole season, huh?
• 1:18:05
[SPEAKER_02]: Compared to one bad moment.
• 1:18:06
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, however long that sex takes.
• 1:18:10
[SPEAKER_02]: and that stuff sticks with you forever, right?
• 1:18:12
[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm going to go, I'm going to go with eyes, eyes wide open on a real house.
• 1:18:16
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, Excel, would you rather have a very bloodshot eyes or get raw sewage in your eye?
• 1:18:22
  [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, bloodshot.
• 1:18:23
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, and then Joshua, this is the last one.
• 1:18:25
  [SPEAKER_01]: This is a three-parter.
• 1:18:27
[SPEAKER_01]: Would you like to have one eye gouged out?
• 1:18:29
[SPEAKER_01]: One arm ripped off or to watch Nightcrawler and Rachel Summers kiss again.
• 1:18:34
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, man, you know, I'm gonna go arm ripped off if I'm in this universe.
• 1:18:39
[SPEAKER_02]: There's a good chance I'm gonna get an upgrade to that arm.
• 1:18:42
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, you're gonna get a cable arm totally.
• 1:18:44
  [SPEAKER_01]: I'm in.
• 1:18:45
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
• 1:18:46
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, okay So there's a thousand thousand mutants to choose from a lot of our favorites don't get chosen because they don't match the templates that are already met by other people
• 1:18:54
[SPEAKER_00]: Nightcrollers are already a playful character.
• 1:18:56
  [SPEAKER_01]: Everyone's gonna get a Wolverine.
• 1:18:57
[SPEAKER_01]: Colossus is already the super strong guy, right?
• 1:19:00
[SPEAKER_01]: There's something about I boy though, where people keep picking him.
• 1:19:03
[SPEAKER_01]: He keeps getting chosen for these kind of odd, like short exploratory ensembles.
• 1:19:08
[SPEAKER_01]: What is it about this character that makes him stand out from all of the other characters that are options?
• 1:19:13
[SPEAKER_00]: I think I definitely visually, he's fun to draw, he looks great in a lineup.
• 1:19:19
  [SPEAKER_00]: You can like,
• 1:19:20
[SPEAKER_00]: people know him, pick him out, he's a visual mutant.
• 1:19:22
[SPEAKER_00]: So I think just from an aesthetic standpoint, he's a great character to bring in.
• 1:19:26
[SPEAKER_00]: And then other than that, I think you, I think it's nice having a like nonoffensive character, like offensive powers, not like offensive, like he's the best boy.
• 1:19:35
  [SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't offend anybody.
• 1:19:36
[SPEAKER_00]: But like not having anybody that has like powers that, you know, you can like fight, but you can have somebody like a guy in a chair or a tactics type guy, type guy.
• 1:19:43
[SPEAKER_00]: And like I said, he's just he's the goodest voice.
• 1:19:46
  [SPEAKER_00]: I think there's there's definitely
• 1:19:49
  [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I agree.
• 1:19:50
[SPEAKER_02]: I think there's a certain draw to a character who is earnest and nice and good.
• 1:19:57
[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's a more difficult character to probably bring in and write.
• 1:20:00
[SPEAKER_02]: I think also there's probably something about his power set that it's still so vague.
• 1:20:05
[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes as characters go on, their power sets get really mailed down and really specific.
• 1:20:10
[SPEAKER_02]: So he has a lot of potential in terms of what power role he can play on a team, but yeah, like Excel said,
• 1:20:19
  [SPEAKER_02]: And there's just a charm.
• 1:20:20
[SPEAKER_02]: I think in a world of, in a world of Quentin Quires, it's lovely to be a Trevor Hawkins.
• 1:20:25
  [SPEAKER_02]: See, it's never Hawkins.
• 1:20:27
[SPEAKER_02]: It's just lovely to have just like a nice guy on the team who wants to be there.
• 1:20:31
[SPEAKER_01]: But I do not mind about a bad thing happening to a character, but I hate when they throw a vulnerable character in that gets hit.
• 1:20:38
[SPEAKER_01]: Trimed that's never a journey that I really like very much just like I hate in the 80s when all like the female characters I'll have to like defeat a group of people trying to rape them.
• 1:20:46
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like a story that every time I see it I'm like, oh, I don't like this this trophy.
• 1:20:50
[SPEAKER_00]: Is there a term for that?
• 1:20:51
[SPEAKER_00]: I know when somebody when you like take down like the Wolverine It's called somebody getting worse
• 1:20:55
[SPEAKER_00]: by like taking a breakdown from like generation.
• 1:20:59
[SPEAKER_00]: But like it seems like the opposite of that, it's like when you want to prove that somebody is like callous and like full of hate, you're going to pick on the most weak and vulnerable person.
• 1:21:09
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, both of you, both of you, getting your ass kicked
• 1:21:11
[SPEAKER_01]: one thing, but like the bad guy that goes after Willow, like that's who, right?
• 1:21:15
[SPEAKER_01]: Like it hits a little bit differently.
• 1:21:16
[SPEAKER_01]: So if it's a good, if it's a good story in character mode, and I like it, but that story where his eye gets couched out is my least favorite thing for this character ever, even him getting his arm ripped off was better than that, and that story sounds too.
• 1:21:27
[SPEAKER_01]: I love you, Stu, Orlando, but I did not like that, I'm having to make my character
• 1:21:31
  [SPEAKER_01]: Um, there's also, I don't know, he's shy.
• 1:21:33
  [SPEAKER_01]: He's awkward.
• 1:21:34
[SPEAKER_01]: He has kind of an earnestness about him.
• 1:21:37
[SPEAKER_01]: He's never really the main character, right?
• 1:21:39
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, the issues where he takes the focus are often very passive.
• 1:21:42
[SPEAKER_01]: They're about kind of looking from the outside in, but he has some potential, which is my next question.
• 1:21:47
[SPEAKER_01]: What are the stories you want to see about him?
• 1:21:49
  [SPEAKER_01]: We've got six shooter.
• 1:21:50
  [SPEAKER_01]: I boy.
• 1:21:51
  [SPEAKER_01]: We've got magic.
• 1:21:53
  [SPEAKER_01]: I boy.
• 1:21:53
[SPEAKER_01]: We've got guy behind the screen.
• 1:21:55
  [SPEAKER_01]: I boy.
• 1:21:55
  [SPEAKER_01]: We've got blue shot.
• 1:21:56
  [SPEAKER_01]: The cable.
• 1:21:57
  [SPEAKER_01]: I boy.
• 1:21:58
[SPEAKER_01]: And we've got like, I'm in the far future who could come back.
• 1:22:02
[SPEAKER_02]: I think the investigative route that Lea took an X-Factor is a really nice sweet spot for him.
• 1:22:07
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, the guns are fun.
• 1:22:08
[SPEAKER_02]: I think there's there's an interesting story beat to be had there of like this earnest good boy who's also just a great shot.
• 1:22:15
[SPEAKER_02]: I think is is kind of fun if you want to get him on the battlefield.
• 1:22:19
[SPEAKER_02]: But I do like it.
• 1:22:20
[SPEAKER_02]: I think there's nothing wrong with being a support character.
• 1:22:23
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't mind him as the kind of guy I'm keeping my eye for, I out for, in the book.
• 1:22:31
[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I would love to see him.
• 1:22:33
[SPEAKER_02]: I think he only works in a fun ensemble cast as a guy running support.
• 1:22:38
[SPEAKER_02]: I think like we said before, he really feels like a Doug Ramsey role.
• 1:22:42
[SPEAKER_01]: He's, um, I was just thinking about like the walking dead.
• 1:22:46
[SPEAKER_01]: He's the Glenn character in a lot of ways.
• 1:22:48
  [SPEAKER_02]: 100%.
• 1:22:48
  [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
• 1:22:49
  [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
• 1:22:49
[SPEAKER_02]: He's got heart, you know, he's there to help.
• 1:22:52
[SPEAKER_02]: I think he should kind of stay in those roles.
• 1:22:54
  [SPEAKER_02]: I don't mind that.
• 1:22:55
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that's necessarily limiting for a character in a book with three million characters to choose from.
• 1:23:00
  [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
• 1:23:01
[SPEAKER_01]: I would I would I would enjoy him having a little bit of character beat.
• 1:23:05
[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of the stories are about him trying to find his power or like be the support guy right like but let's give him some relationships with some stakes like let's make him make some decisions that like shape who this character is I'd also love to see more about his background.
• 1:23:19
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, the way his brain works like Leah gave us that like startling visual of the circles and like the magic wall like there's some, there's some real power upgrades for this guy who has some significant potential that's kind of always been there and always been seen.
• 1:23:32
[SPEAKER_00]: I, I would, I would love to see him.
• 1:23:34
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and now all at once like I don't want like a mini series where we see him like super leveled up super fast.
• 1:23:40
[SPEAKER_00]: I like having the smaller level ups over time.
• 1:23:44
[SPEAKER_00]: So, I would love to see him do like training like being a book where he's being trained by Dr.
• 1:23:49
[SPEAKER_00]: Strange and then being a book where he's being trained by cable and like all these people he looks up to where he gets like a moment where he's leveling up his powers a little bit more a little bit more.
• 1:23:57
[SPEAKER_00]: I would also love to see him because he is such a good boy and like has such like a good moral compass.
• 1:24:03
[SPEAKER_00]: I would like to see him in in some impossible situations where his morals are compromised.
• 1:24:07
[SPEAKER_00]: Like where he is forced to make some like difficult decisions there.
• 1:24:10
[SPEAKER_00]: I think those would be good.
• 1:24:10
[SPEAKER_00]: like story beats for him and challenge the character with some growth.
• 1:24:15
[SPEAKER_01]: I think he has real leader potential as well.
• 1:24:17
[SPEAKER_01]: I think a team lead and like kicking ass is super hero.
• 1:24:20
[SPEAKER_01]: There's also an arc for this and let me hear your thoughts on this Joshua.
• 1:24:23
[SPEAKER_01]: What's the story that turns I boy evil?
• 1:24:25
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh the story that turns I boy evil.
• 1:24:27
[SPEAKER_01]: I see when he comes, when he becomes black, I boy.
• 1:24:30
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I see a world where he has seen too much, right?
• 1:24:35
[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's the story B is that he has seen so much that he becomes cynical.
• 1:24:39
[SPEAKER_02]: That he can see how people, how much people are lying, how much their body language betrays what they actually believe or do or whatever.
• 1:24:47
[SPEAKER_02]: And then he just gets so cynical and over the whole thing that he turns manipulative.
• 1:24:52
[SPEAKER_01]: or, you know, he has a power, like, mystique or Xavier that I kind of call, like, super villain powers, right?
• 1:25:00
[SPEAKER_01]: I want to assume I'm a really good person, but if I could see through everybody's clothing, I mean, I wouldn't, I, I want to think I'd be ethical, but tell me you wouldn't be looking, you know, like, if you could make people's minds, tell me you wouldn't, like, pick their secrets out, right?
• 1:25:13
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I boy has that villain power, kind of,
• 1:25:15
[SPEAKER_01]: Right, I think he would make an interesting kind of king pin like right hand man, right?
• 1:25:21
[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's a very different version of this character, but he goes dark ed.
• 1:25:25
  [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, there's some interesting potential.
• 1:25:27
[SPEAKER_01]: I think there that's fascinating to me.
• 1:25:29
  [SPEAKER_00]: I'd like maybe John's a blind becomes a conjunctivitis.
• 1:25:33
[SPEAKER_00]: And he gets into a bad way.
• 1:25:36
[SPEAKER_00]: You guys picked all the good answers.
• 1:25:39
[SPEAKER_01]: There's more eyeball horror in the diseases of the eye.
• 1:25:42
[SPEAKER_01]: Go see the aura seronate.
• 1:25:45
[SPEAKER_00]: Also, when I'm trying to concentrate on something and I get something in my eye, I'm a monster.
• 1:25:49
[SPEAKER_00]: So I can't imagine having that many eyes and at any given point, Trevor has an eyelash in an eye.
• 1:25:56
  [SPEAKER_00]: Or something.
• 1:25:58
[SPEAKER_01]: The worst thought for me with this character is like, you know how like what you get like crusty's in your eye, he has like 37 eyes.
• 1:26:05
  [SPEAKER_00]: And he's a mortal routine.
• 1:26:06
[SPEAKER_01]: And he only has two hands.
• 1:26:08
  [SPEAKER_01]: Like, that's a terrible job.
• 1:26:15
[SPEAKER_01]: It just don't on me, I think I'm pretty sure in one of the sins of sinister issues.
• 1:26:20
[SPEAKER_01]: Sinister creates like mutant kimaras and there's like a kimara that's like an I boy cyclops hybrid.
• 1:26:25
[SPEAKER_01]: So there's like a bunch of optic blast firing eyes, but it's like a sinister experiment.
• 1:26:30
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that happens too, yeah.
• 1:26:31
[SPEAKER_01]: This is a longer episode than I normally do for these.
• 1:26:34
[SPEAKER_01]: But this character, this character is really fun and it was worth taking our time with him.
• 1:26:38
[SPEAKER_01]: Some characters you can go with thematic, but this was worth the longer conversation.
• 1:26:41
[SPEAKER_01]: Whenever I talk about these, I leave with a particular feeling, it makes me want to go write the character, but I will forever associate him with the two of you in this conversation.
• 1:26:48
[SPEAKER_01]: So I hope you're all with huge smiles tonight because these are really fun to make.
• 1:26:52
[SPEAKER_02]: And he's in good books, you know?
• 1:26:55
[SPEAKER_02]: He's generally in a pretty solid books.
• 1:26:58
[SPEAKER_02]: So they're fun to read and he's a great character and it's a great ride.
• 1:27:00
[SPEAKER_01]: Or maybe he just gets a symbiote.
• 1:27:02
[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe he would poison I boy.
• 1:27:04
  [SPEAKER_00]: We'd poison I boy.
• 1:27:08
  [SPEAKER_01]: All right, everybody.
• 1:27:09
  [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you as always.
• 1:27:10
  [SPEAKER_01]: I adore making these.
• 1:27:11
[SPEAKER_01]: It just brings so much joy to my life.
• 1:27:13
[SPEAKER_01]: So thanks for the connection here and thanks everybody for the ongoing support.

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not a professional anything, but I'm always happy to meet new ex-nords.
• 1:27:35
[SPEAKER_02]: I've made quite a, I have connected with a lot of X-Men fans through cons and the X-Men podcast world, and it's just been an incredible few years of building out a little X-Men community.
• 1:27:50
  [SPEAKER_01]: I'm legit.
• 1:27:51
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm legit in Toronto as we are recording this and I've had like six different meals like lined up with different friends that are all in like the X-Men sub community like it's it's the Jason low and Anthony Oliver like there's just these lovely nerdy smart people here and it's all this community that makes me so happy every time so I totally I understand those vibes very much.
• 1:28:12
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I am not currently on a lot of social media to a big break early on in this year so.
• 1:28:18
[SPEAKER_00]: So my advice has been if you wanted to follow me on social media, please don't.
• 1:28:22
[SPEAKER_00]: For a little bit, I may be getting back on just like for the reasons that you were just talking about.
• 1:28:28
[SPEAKER_00]: It has been so great to connect with so many people at cons, whether it's like the uncanny experience or flamethrower or C2E2 here in Chicago.
• 1:28:36
[SPEAKER_00]: And just the community is so good and it's easier to keep up with folks.
• 1:28:40
[SPEAKER_00]: through something like Instagram or something like that.
• 1:28:42
[SPEAKER_00]: So, there's a chance I might be back on, but yeah, I'm just so happy that we got to do this.
• 1:28:47
[SPEAKER_00]: This is really, really wonderful to be able to come on and just like geek out about I-Boy for however long we've been doing this, time isn't real.
• 1:28:54
[SPEAKER_01]: These are the kinds of treats you missed out on earlier.
• 1:28:56
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll give you one sentence from the preamble I started earlier.
• 1:28:59
[SPEAKER_01]: When I boy was a student, technically he was a pupil, but keep a lid on that.
• 1:29:04
[SPEAKER_01]: It was good every tear of life.
• 1:29:10
[SPEAKER_00]: All right everybody 20 lashes for them.
• 1:29:12
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, there's a lashes and there's somewhere as well All right, everybody.
• 1:29:16
  [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
• 1:29:16
[SPEAKER_01]: I hope we made you smile today Go read some eyed boys stories Keep yourself safe out there and thank you Joshua and Excel for hanging with me today We'll see you both back here soon.
• 1:29:25
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll see you guys back here next week on the gremolking late show
