Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: All right.
- 0:00Speaker 2: President Trump is about to cap off another busy day
- 0:03Speaker 2: at the G seven summit with a dinner between world leaders,
- 0:06Speaker 2: and at the center of his conversations is, of course,
- 0:09Speaker 2: the US deal with Iran, set to be formally signed
- 0:12Speaker 2: on Friday. Our senior White House correspondent Peter Ducey's reporting
- 0:15Speaker 2: live in Geneva, Switzerland, on all of that for US, Hello, Peter.
- 0:20Speaker 3: And Sandra. As we look ahead to that signing ceremony
- 0:23Speaker 3: at a resort in Luzerne, Switzerland on Friday, we should
- 0:27Speaker 3: not expect to see Jade Vance handing a big check
- 0:30Speaker 3: over to his Iranian counterparts. President Trump is explaining here
- 0:34Speaker 3: on the sidelines of the G seven that there is
- 0:37Speaker 3: a difference between giving Iran three hundred billion dollars and
- 0:41Speaker 3: letting them have access to a three hundred billion dollar
- 0:45Speaker 3: reconstruction fund.
- 0:48Speaker 4: Allowed to go and invest if we wanted to some
- 0:50Speaker 4: date in the future. We have no obligation whatsoever. It
- 0:54Speaker 4: could be that Iran will turn out to be successful
- 0:57Speaker 4: on theb oil. But have we left a week ago,
- 1:05Speaker 4: just left before the last two attacks, it would have
- 1:08Speaker 4: taken him twenty years to rebuild her at So but
- 1:11Speaker 4: I'll go over the document with the media in a
- 1:15Speaker 4: couple of days.
- 1:19Speaker 3: And this is what the president is getting at. The
- 1:20Speaker 3: Wall Street Journal has an item that just crossed a
- 1:22Speaker 3: few minutes ago. The US will allow Iran to immediately
- 1:25Speaker 3: begin selling oil and fuel under the deal to end
- 1:28Speaker 3: the war, offering Tehran an early financial incentive to wind
- 1:32Speaker 3: down the conflict. People familiar with the agreement said the
- 1:35Speaker 3: provision for waivers on sanctions on oil sales takes effect
- 1:39Speaker 3: immediately upon signing the agreement this week, and that fits
- 1:43Speaker 3: with the two step process the Vice President's been talking about.
- 1:46Speaker 3: Step one, Iran stops pursuing a nuke. Step two, Iran
- 1:49Speaker 3: gets to rejoin the global economy. Something that President Trump needs, though,
- 1:54Speaker 3: is the elimination of enriched uranium. He told us a
- 1:57Speaker 3: few weeks ago. He has decided against a mission go
- 2:00Speaker 3: and take the so called nuclear dust out, but he
- 2:03Speaker 3: does want it done away with in place.
- 2:07Speaker 4: We have the equipment. We're in no rush, but we
- 2:10Speaker 4: get it, and when we get it, we'll destroy it.
- 2:13Speaker 4: Is that part we're not looking to take you, We're
- 2:15Speaker 4: looking to destroy it. We have plenty of it, and.
- 2:20Speaker 3: It seems like one possibility for the complete lack of
- 2:23Speaker 3: specific details surrounding this memorandum of understanding so far is
- 2:28Speaker 3: that the details don't exist. We're hearing from the President,
- 2:31Speaker 3: We're hearing from JD. Vance that it is a very
- 2:33Speaker 3: general document. So it's possible that we don't have details
- 2:37Speaker 3: because nobody.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Does, Sandra, and that could be a problem. We'll be
- 2:41Speaker 2: watching for more of those details. Peter Deucy, thank you, John.
- 2:45Speaker 5: Sata, let's break it form A Secretary of State and
- 2:46Speaker 5: Foxty's contributed. Mike POMPEII, mister secretary, good to be with
- 2:49Speaker 5: you to day afternoon. In terms of the details, we
- 2:53Speaker 5: kind of know a broad framework of this memorandum of understanding.
- 2:56Speaker 5: The President and other administration officials have said it will
- 3:00Speaker 5: be coming out. In fact, this morning in Geneva, the
- 3:03Speaker 5: President said this about it wasn't here.
- 3:06Speaker 6: I will actually I'll not only release it, I'll probably
- 3:09Speaker 6: have a press conference and read it to use word
- 3:12Speaker 6: by words. Unlike Obama, who could have destroyed the Middle
- 3:16Speaker 6: East with a horrible jc POA, it is the worst agreement.
- 3:22Speaker 6: That was a road to a nuclear weapon.
- 3:24Speaker 4: Mine is a wall against a nuclear weapon. I mean,
- 3:28Speaker 4: I see these people say, but we already had one.
- 3:31Speaker 6: He paid a fortune for it.
- 3:32Speaker 5: We paid nothing, so we don't know if we can
- 3:34Speaker 5: compare it to the jcp away, but certainly a lot
- 3:37Speaker 5: of people are rushing to do so. Should they just
- 3:39Speaker 5: hold their fire until we know what's in it?
- 3:42Speaker 7: Well, John's great to be with you. Yeah, we should
- 3:44Speaker 7: all just hold our fire. We should get a chance
- 3:47Speaker 7: to see this document just as soon as possible. Everybody's
- 3:49Speaker 7: out telling stories. The Raetians are out telling stories. Israelis
- 3:52Speaker 7: are out telling stories. Though you know there's reporters who
- 3:55Speaker 7: think they've got the latest scoops. Let's see what the
- 3:57Speaker 7: document actually says. President Trump can't go back to the
- 4:00Speaker 7: JCPO because he's already done far more than Barack Obama
- 4:03Speaker 7: ever did. Right, The Iranians are far far far away
- 4:06Speaker 7: from a nuclear weapon compared to where they were when
- 4:10Speaker 7: President Obama and Secretary Kerry and Robert Malley and Wendy
- 4:14Speaker 7: Sherman signed a horrible deal that put the whole world
- 4:16Speaker 7: at risk. And so we're already in a better place.
- 4:18Speaker 7: What I hope is is that the stories that there's
- 4:21Speaker 7: going to be a lot of money transferred to their
- 4:23Speaker 7: regime because we think they're going to become a normal nation.
- 4:25Speaker 7: And they're going to give up their desire for a
- 4:28Speaker 7: nuclear weapon. John I just I must say my interactions
- 4:31Speaker 7: with the Iranians, my observations are that that is not happening.
- 4:34Speaker 1: They do not want to be a normal nation.
- 4:36Speaker 7: They're not sorry for what they've done for the last
- 4:38Speaker 7: forty seven years. They are theocrats still intent on the
- 4:41Speaker 7: destruction of Israel and the United States of America, and
- 4:43Speaker 7: so we need to take down their capabilities.
- 4:46Speaker 1: That means no money, That means an.
- 4:48Speaker 7: Effort to make sure that it's very difficult or the
- 4:50Speaker 7: regime to continue to kill its own people. If the
- 4:53Speaker 7: deal can achieve that, it will have been a successful
- 4:55Speaker 7: income and a worthy campaign by President Trump and our military.
- 4:59Speaker 5: Go point there about the money and whether or not
- 5:01Speaker 5: Iran should receive any. We hear that somewhere built into
- 5:04Speaker 5: this deal, there's this idea of an up to three
- 5:07Speaker 5: hundred billion dollar fund that would be fronted by golf
- 5:10Speaker 5: nations to help Iran rebuild infrastructure, oil infrastructure, electricity infrastructure.
- 5:17Speaker 5: If they play ball and they fundamentally change as a nation.
- 5:20Speaker 5: Here's what the Vice President said about.
- 5:21Speaker 1: That this morning.
- 5:23Speaker 8: You see the propagandists are saying, here are all the
- 5:26Speaker 8: things that ran gets and the fine print whi's actually
- 5:29Speaker 8: the big print and the actual agreement is they don't
- 5:31Speaker 8: get any of that stuff unless they totally transform themselves
- 5:34Speaker 8: at the country, and if they do, that's a huge
- 5:37Speaker 8: win for everybody, for the region.
- 5:39Speaker 1: If they don't no skin all far back.
- 5:41Speaker 5: I mean, obviously it would be a huge win for
- 5:43Speaker 5: the region if Iran were to fundamentally give up its
- 5:45Speaker 5: terrorist ideologies and it's death to America and Israel mantra
- 5:49Speaker 5: and become a functional member of the Community of Nations.
- 5:53Speaker 5: But as you point out, there's very little chance of
- 5:55Speaker 5: them doing that, which would mean I guess that there's
- 5:58Speaker 5: very little chance of them getting any acts to this.
- 6:00Speaker 7: Fund Yes, if the Vice presuals statement is accurate and
- 6:05Speaker 7: the Iranians importantly and the Iranians understand it that way,
- 6:08Speaker 7: which has yet to be seen. By the way, not
- 6:11Speaker 7: just the Ranians. The people who matter, not the guy
- 6:13Speaker 7: who's going to sign the agreement, the IRGC who's firmly
- 6:16Speaker 7: in control, and the Ayahtola. If those folks decide they
- 6:20Speaker 7: want to become a normal nation, sign me up for
- 6:23Speaker 7: folks going in there and investing. But John, I have
- 6:25Speaker 7: to tell you, it seems like the probability that is
- 6:27Speaker 7: very low to me, So fair enough, they won't get
- 6:30Speaker 7: any money. What I hope does not happen is that
- 6:33Speaker 7: we take our foot off their neck while we have
- 6:36Speaker 7: the chance to achieve an outcome that is extraordinary for
- 6:39Speaker 7: the United States of American. President Trump set the conditions
- 6:41Speaker 7: for that by giving them money, whether that's through a
- 6:44Speaker 7: direct transfer or transfer from a third party, or even
- 6:47Speaker 7: releasing things that they say, quote, is the Iranians own money.
- 6:51Speaker 7: That would be a mistake, because John, you've seen this before,
- 6:53Speaker 7: We've seen this bad movie. That money is not going
- 6:55Speaker 7: to provide healthcare, medicine.
- 6:57Speaker 1: And food for the Iranian people.
- 6:59Speaker 7: It is going to go to rebuild their missile program,
- 7:01Speaker 7: rebuild the IRGC, buy more weapons systems from Russia and
- 7:05Speaker 7: from China. That money that goes to the Ranian regime
- 7:07Speaker 7: will be used for a bad purpose. If I'm wrong
- 7:10Speaker 7: and the Ranians have turned over a new leaf, there'd
- 7:13Speaker 7: be no one who would be happier than me.
- 7:15Speaker 5: You know, I haven't seen many leopards actually change their spot,
- 7:17Speaker 5: so I'm kind of with you on that. I wanted
- 7:20Speaker 5: to ask you about this because this plot against the
- 7:22Speaker 5: UFC Freedom two fifty event on Sunday night really seems
- 7:25Speaker 5: to be frightened because there were forty three hundred and
- 7:27Speaker 5: ten d's on the south lawn to the White House,
- 7:29Speaker 5: twelve hundred those were active duty service members, and then
- 7:33Speaker 5: just south of the south lawn on the ellipse, there
- 7:36Speaker 5: were eighty five thousand people at a viewing party. If
- 7:40Speaker 5: it had not been for this mother in Ohio who
- 7:42Speaker 5: noticed suspicious activity by her son, firearm purchases, talking nefarious people,
- 7:48Speaker 5: not being able to tell her what was going on,
- 7:50Speaker 5: God knows what could have happen.
- 7:54Speaker 7: John, this is absolutely frightening. I'll bless that mother for
- 7:56Speaker 7: doing the right thing. If that's in fact, how this
- 7:58Speaker 7: all unfolded. Good work by the FBI. It reminds me, John,
- 8:03Speaker 7: when I was a CI director, how many times I
- 8:05Speaker 7: saw amazing work by law enforcement, the FBI, by our
- 8:09Speaker 7: intelligence partners around the world. The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act
- 8:12Speaker 7: that's now lapsed was often part of that may not
- 8:15Speaker 7: have been here.
- 8:16Speaker 1: We need to be ever vigilant.
- 8:18Speaker 7: A terrorists now can have very cheap, very capable weapons systems.
- 8:22Speaker 1: We've seen that in the Middle East and in Ukraine.
- 8:24Speaker 7: We are in a very dangerous place with respect to
- 8:26Speaker 7: this technology, and our law enforcement needs to be unleashed
- 8:30Speaker 7: to make sure that we can continue to protect the
- 8:32Speaker 7: American people from precisely the kind of threats that these
- 8:35Speaker 7: people were trying to plot against the UFC that night.
- 8:37Speaker 5: Yeah, there really is frightening with this plot, allegedly head planned,
- 8:42Speaker 5: mister Secretary. Always good to catch up with you, Thanks
- 8:44Speaker 5: for spending time today.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Thank you, John.
