- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, Faith for listeners, good morning, and welcome to the
- 0:02Speaker 1: Bible Explain podcast. On this absolutely lovely, lovely morning, we've
- 0:07Speaker 1: been having just some of the best weather you can
- 0:09Speaker 1: have in my location, so I'm very thankful for the weather.
- 0:13Speaker 1: But today we're going to be talking about first chronicles
- 0:15Speaker 1: twenty eight and part of twenty nine as well, and
- 0:19Speaker 1: today's topic is did God want this temple built or not?
- 0:23Speaker 1: We'll talk about that today. Stay tuned. So, as you
- 0:33Speaker 1: guys saw the past couple days my podcast episodes, we're
- 0:38Speaker 1: kind of messed up. Well, it's because on my podcast
- 0:40Speaker 1: hosting platform, you know where I put all my episodes
- 0:43Speaker 1: so they get pushed out to the various podcast platforms,
- 0:47Speaker 1: it was down and my RSS feed was not being generated,
- 0:50Speaker 1: so it looked like all my episodes were just like deleted,
- 0:54Speaker 1: and as of right now, I don't believe they fixed
- 0:56Speaker 1: it yet. So unfortunately, you're only going to see my
- 1:00Speaker 1: past one hundred episodes that I've done, like my one
- 1:02Speaker 1: hundred newest episodes. Anything before that is like nonexistent. So yesterday,
- 1:07Speaker 1: when this problem was first brought up to me, I
- 1:11Speaker 1: was freaked out because I went to Apple Podcasts and
- 1:15Speaker 1: none of my seasons were there. I'm like, where are
- 1:17Speaker 1: all my episodes? Like ninety percent of my podcast is
- 1:20Speaker 1: just gone? But then I troubleshop for a little while
- 1:23Speaker 1: and figured out that it was my podcast hosting platform.
- 1:27Speaker 1: They were having some issues, some bugs that they were
- 1:29Speaker 1: trying to work out, and I really hope they fix
- 1:32Speaker 1: it soon so that all of you guys can find
- 1:35Speaker 1: the old episodes again. But in the meantime, if you're
- 1:38Speaker 1: here wondering why you're not seeing the old episodes, go
- 1:42Speaker 1: over to YouTube. I put all of those episodes up,
- 1:45Speaker 1: or rather my mom did manually, so every single podcast
- 1:49Speaker 1: episode that I have done for the Bible Explained is
- 1:52Speaker 1: on YouTube. My podcast episodes will always always be on
- 1:57Speaker 1: YouTube and also on Rumble because my mom also handles
- 2:01Speaker 1: my Rumble channel as well, which is absolutely fantastic. And
- 2:05Speaker 1: thank you mom for doing all of that. I greatly
- 2:07Speaker 1: appreciate you, because it's times like this when it's really
- 2:10Speaker 1: useful to have the episodes up on YouTube and Rumble.
- 2:14Speaker 1: So YouTube and Rumble are linked in the description of
- 2:17Speaker 1: this episode, so go over there if you are looking
- 2:19Speaker 1: for the podcast while everything is hopefully being fixed. But
- 2:23Speaker 1: for right now, let's go ahead and read First Chronicles
- 2:25Speaker 1: twenty eight eight through twenty one, and also First Chronicles
- 2:29Speaker 1: twenty nine one through nine. And I'm just gonna read
- 2:32Speaker 1: these these two chapters straight. I'm not going to take
- 2:35Speaker 1: a pause after First Chronicles twenty eight, and we'll talk
- 2:38Speaker 1: about everything going on in these two chapters. So grab
- 2:42Speaker 1: your Bible and your cup of coffee or your cup
- 2:44Speaker 1: of tea this morning, and let's give reverence to God's
- 2:46Speaker 1: word as we read First Chronicles twenty eight, starting on
- 2:49Speaker 1: verse eight. Now, therefore, in the sight of all Israel,
- 2:54Speaker 1: you always assembly and in the audience of our God,
- 2:57Speaker 1: observe and seek out all the commandments of Yahweh, your
- 2:59Speaker 1: God God, that you may possess this good land and
- 3:02Speaker 1: leave it for an inheritance to your children after you
- 3:05Speaker 1: forever you, Solomon my son, know the God of your Father,
- 3:09Speaker 1: and serve him with a perfect heart and a willing mind.
- 3:12Speaker 1: For Yahweh searches all hearts and understands all the imaginations
- 3:16Speaker 1: of thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found
- 3:19Speaker 1: by you. But if you forsake him, he will cast
- 3:21Speaker 1: you off forever. Take heed now, for Yahweh has chosen
- 3:25Speaker 1: you to build a house for the sanctuary be strong
- 3:28Speaker 1: and do it. Then David gave to Solomon, his son,
- 3:31Speaker 1: the plans for the poor, to the temple, for its houses,
- 3:34Speaker 1: for its treasuries, for its upper rooms, for its inner rooms,
- 3:37Speaker 1: for the place of the mercy seat, and the plans
- 3:39Speaker 1: of all that he had by the spirit, for the
- 3:41Speaker 1: courts of Yahway's House, for the surrounding rooms, for the
- 3:44Speaker 1: treasuries of God's House, and for the treasuries of the
- 3:47Speaker 1: dedicated things. Also for the divisions of the priests and
- 3:50Speaker 1: the levites, for all the work of the service of
- 3:52Speaker 1: Yahway's House, and for all the vessels of service in
- 3:55Speaker 1: Yahway's House. Of gold by weight, for the gold for
- 3:58Speaker 1: all the vessels of every kind of service, for all
- 4:00Speaker 1: the vessels of silver by weight, for all the vessels
- 4:03Speaker 1: of every kind of service by weight. Also for the
- 4:05Speaker 1: lamp stands of gold and for its lamps. Of gold
- 4:08Speaker 1: by weight for every lamp stand and for its lamps,
- 4:11Speaker 1: And for the lamp stands of silver by weight for
- 4:13Speaker 1: every lamp stand and for its lamps according to the
- 4:16Speaker 1: use of every lamp stand. And the gold by weight
- 4:18Speaker 1: for the tables of showbread for every table, and the
- 4:21Speaker 1: silver for the tables of silver, and the forks, the basins,
- 4:24Speaker 1: and the cups of pure gold. And for the golden
- 4:26Speaker 1: bowls by weight for every bowl, and for the silver
- 4:28Speaker 1: bowls by weight for every bowl, and for the altar
- 4:31Speaker 1: of incense refined gold by weight, and gold for the
- 4:34Speaker 1: plans for the chariot and the cherubim that spread out
- 4:37Speaker 1: and cover the arc of Yahway's covenant. All this, David said,
- 4:41Speaker 1: I have been made to understand in writing from Yahwai's hand,
- 4:44Speaker 1: even all the works of this pattern. David said to
- 4:47Speaker 1: Solomon his son, be strong and courageous and do it.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Don't be afraid nor be dismayed. For Yahweh God, even
- 4:54Speaker 1: my God is with you. He will not fail you
- 4:56Speaker 1: nor forsake you until all the work for the service
- 4:59Speaker 1: of yaways house is finished. Behold, there are divisions of
- 5:02Speaker 1: the priests and the levites for all the service of
- 5:04Speaker 1: God's house. Every willing man who has skill for any
- 5:07Speaker 1: kind of service shall be with you in all kinds
- 5:09Speaker 1: of work. Also the captains and all the people will
- 5:12Speaker 1: be entirely at your command. David the King said to
- 5:15Speaker 1: all the assembly, Solomon, my son, whom alone God has chosen,
- 5:20Speaker 1: is yet young and tender, and the work is great.
- 5:22Speaker 1: For the palace is not for man, but for Yahweh God.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Now I have prepared with all my might for the
- 5:27Speaker 1: House of my God, the gold for the things of gold,
- 5:30Speaker 1: the silver for the things of silver, the bronze for
- 5:33Speaker 1: the things of bronze, iron for the things of iron,
- 5:35Speaker 1: and wood for the things of wood. Also onyx stones,
- 5:38Speaker 1: stones to be set, stones for inlaid work of various colors,
- 5:42Speaker 1: all kinds of precious stones and marble stones in abundance.
- 5:46Speaker 1: In addition, because I have set my affection on the
- 5:48Speaker 1: House of my God, since I have a treasure of
- 5:50Speaker 1: my own of gold and silver, I give it to
- 5:52Speaker 1: the House of my God. Over and above all that
- 5:54Speaker 1: I have prepared for the Holy House, even three thousand
- 5:57Speaker 1: talents of gold, the gold of o fear, and seven
- 6:00Speaker 1: thousand talents of refined silver, with which to overlay the
- 6:04Speaker 1: walls of the houses. Of gold for the things of gold,
- 6:06Speaker 1: and of silver, for the things of silver, and for
- 6:09Speaker 1: all kinds of work to be made by the hands
- 6:11Speaker 1: of the artisans. Who then offers willingly to consecrate himself
- 6:14Speaker 1: today to Yahweh. Then the princes of the Father's household
- 6:18Speaker 1: and the princes of the tribes of Israel, and the
- 6:20Speaker 1: captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the rulers over
- 6:23Speaker 1: the King's work, offered willingly, and they gave for the
- 6:25Speaker 1: service of God's House of gold five thousand talents and
- 6:29Speaker 1: ten thousand derricks, of silver ten thousand talents, of bronze
- 6:33Speaker 1: eighteen thousand talents, and of iron one hundred thousand talents.
- 6:37Speaker 1: People with whom precious stones were found gave them to
- 6:40Speaker 1: the treasury of Yahweh's house under the hand of Jehiel
- 6:43Speaker 1: the Gershanite. Then the people rejoiced because they offered willingly,
- 6:47Speaker 1: because with a perfect heart, they offered willingly to Yahweh.
- 6:51Speaker 1: And David the King also rejoiced with great joy. So
- 7:03Speaker 1: where we left off on Monday, David was getting old.
- 7:06Speaker 1: He was towards the end of his life, but the
- 7:09Speaker 1: one thing that he really wanted to make sure that
- 7:12Speaker 1: was accomplished was the building of Yahweh's house. This was
- 7:15Speaker 1: something that David was kind of obsessed over, actually, throughout
- 7:18Speaker 1: most of his life. He really really wanted to build
- 7:21Speaker 1: this temple, but God basically told him thanks, but no thanks,
- 7:27Speaker 1: You're not going to build a house for me, David. Instead, David,
- 7:29Speaker 1: I'm going to build a house for you. And then
- 7:33Speaker 1: God goes on to give some prophecy to David where
- 7:35Speaker 1: he says, someday a son is going to be born
- 7:39Speaker 1: to you, who will build me a house. Now, of
- 7:42Speaker 1: course God could have been referring to Solomon, but more
- 7:44Speaker 1: broadly speaking, we definitely know that God was referring to
- 7:48Speaker 1: Jesus because we know that Jesus was of the line
- 7:52Speaker 1: and lineage of David. In fact, when Jesus was on earth,
- 7:55Speaker 1: many people called him the son of David. So Jesus
- 7:59Speaker 1: was the one who was going to build Yahweh's house.
- 8:03Speaker 1: In fact, yesterday on the podcast in the New Testament
- 8:06Speaker 1: side of stuff, we read a verse about how Jesus
- 8:09Speaker 1: laid the foundation of the New Temple. The new Temple
- 8:12Speaker 1: is not one that has physical walls like the old Temple.
- 8:16Speaker 1: The New Temple is made up of each individual member
- 8:19Speaker 1: of the church. You know, the Holy Spirit comes and
- 8:21Speaker 1: lives in each Christian who accepts him, and that is
- 8:25Speaker 1: considered to be the new Temple. So Jesus most definitely
- 8:29Speaker 1: built a house for God, but it's certainly a different
- 8:32Speaker 1: house than what David was expecting David was thinking of
- 8:35Speaker 1: a physical building, and so he believed in his heart
- 8:40Speaker 1: that God was talking about his son Solomon, that Solomon
- 8:44Speaker 1: was going to be the one to build this temple
- 8:46Speaker 1: to him, and very likely God could have also been
- 8:50Speaker 1: referring to Solomon. A lot of times when we see
- 8:52Speaker 1: prophecies in scripture, they have something called double fulfillments. So
- 8:57Speaker 1: in the case of this prophecy, you know, God said
- 8:59Speaker 1: that David would have a son that would build him
- 9:02Speaker 1: a house. That's a prophecy that very likely refers to
- 9:07Speaker 1: both Solomon and also more broadly to Jesus. That's what's
- 9:13Speaker 1: called a double fulfillment, and we see that happening quite
- 9:16Speaker 1: a lot in scripture. Actually. But regardless, David has his
- 9:20Speaker 1: heart set on this temple being built. He gets almost
- 9:24Speaker 1: obsessed about it, to the point where at the end
- 9:27Speaker 1: of his life, he is gathering all the equipment for
- 9:30Speaker 1: the building of the temple. He is laying out all
- 9:32Speaker 1: of the plans for this temple, and he purchased the
- 9:35Speaker 1: spot where the temple is going to be built. Then
- 9:37Speaker 1: also organized the levites and the priests for specific duties
- 9:41Speaker 1: in the temple once it has been built. So David
- 9:46Speaker 1: went through all of the preparations for the temple to
- 9:49Speaker 1: the point where Solomon had to do almost nothing. And actually,
- 9:53Speaker 1: in today's portion we see how far David went with
- 9:57Speaker 1: all of this. David even went so f with all
- 10:01Speaker 1: of these plans that he had everything measured out by weight.
- 10:06Speaker 1: He says that the bulls and the lamp stands and
- 10:09Speaker 1: everything inside the temple actually had a specific weight to
- 10:13Speaker 1: them that they were supposed to be. So let's get
- 10:16Speaker 1: into today's portion. Now this is David's speaking. He's giving
- 10:20Speaker 1: a grand speech to all the leaders of the Israelites
- 10:23Speaker 1: and to all the chief priests as to what needs
- 10:27Speaker 1: to happen when he dies, because his death is imminent,
- 10:31Speaker 1: and so he says in verse eight, Therefore, in the
- 10:34Speaker 1: sight of all israel yaways assembly, and in the audience
- 10:37Speaker 1: of our God, observe and seek out all the commandments
- 10:40Speaker 1: of Yahweh or God, that you may possess this good
- 10:43Speaker 1: land and leave it for an inheritance to your children
- 10:46Speaker 1: after you forever. So this is obviously a very good speech.
- 10:49Speaker 1: David is encouraging everybody to seek the laws of God,
- 10:53Speaker 1: to seek after God's heart, so that the Israelites would
- 10:57Speaker 1: be blessed forever, because that is something that God said.
- 11:00Speaker 1: What happen to the Israelites If they actually followed the
- 11:02Speaker 1: commandments the way they were supposed to, they would live
- 11:05Speaker 1: in the land forever and God would bless them abundantly.
- 11:08Speaker 1: So David encourages them in that path. And then in
- 11:10Speaker 1: verse nine, David encourages Solomon to do the same thing.
- 11:13Speaker 1: He says, you, Solomon, my son, know the God of
- 11:17Speaker 1: your father. In other words, know my God and serve
- 11:22Speaker 1: him with a perfect heart, with a willing mind. For
- 11:25Speaker 1: Yahweh searches all hearts and understands all the imaginations of
- 11:29Speaker 1: the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found
- 11:32Speaker 1: by you. But if you forsake him, he will cast
- 11:35Speaker 1: you off forever. So take heed now, for Yahweh has
- 11:38Speaker 1: chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary. Be
- 11:41Speaker 1: strong and do it. So David, before he tells Solomon
- 11:45Speaker 1: to build the house, he says, make sure your heart
- 11:47Speaker 1: is right with God. That is the most important thing.
- 11:50Speaker 1: In fact, he tells Solomon to have a perfect heart
- 11:54Speaker 1: toward God. We've talked about that phrase before. A perfect
- 11:56Speaker 1: heart with God. That does not mean that you are sinless,
- 12:00Speaker 1: but it means that you seek God with your entire heart.
- 12:05Speaker 1: David would have been a man that had a perfect
- 12:07Speaker 1: heart toward God. There's actually only a few kings talked
- 12:11Speaker 1: about that had a perfect heart towards God. I believe
- 12:15Speaker 1: they were David, King Asa, Hezekiah if I'm remembering correctly,
- 12:20Speaker 1: and Josiah. I think there was only four kings out
- 12:24Speaker 1: of Israel's history that scripture said had a perfect heart
- 12:29Speaker 1: with God, meaning that they were pursuing God their entire lives.
- 12:33Speaker 1: So they didn't start worshiping other gods. They didn't encourage
- 12:37Speaker 1: other people to worship these foreign gods. They constantly pursued
- 12:41Speaker 1: God and encouraged other people to pursue God. That's what
- 12:44Speaker 1: it means to have a perfect heart with God, to
- 12:47Speaker 1: not have any other idols in your life. And so
- 12:49Speaker 1: David was a man that had a perfect heart with God.
- 12:52Speaker 1: But unfortunately, spoiler alert, Solomon did not have that perfect heart,
- 12:58Speaker 1: as we do find out later on. So after David
- 13:03Speaker 1: admonishes Solomon, he now gives all of the plans for
- 13:08Speaker 1: the temple to Solomon. And this is crazy. Everything that
- 13:12Speaker 1: David did here. This is talked about in verses eleven
- 13:16Speaker 1: through nineteen, it says that he gave the plans of
- 13:20Speaker 1: all that he had by the spirit, for the courts
- 13:22Speaker 1: of Yahway's house, for the surrounding rooms, for the treasuries
- 13:26Speaker 1: of God's House, and for the treasuries of the dedicated things,
- 13:29Speaker 1: for the divisions of the priests and levites, for all
- 13:32Speaker 1: the work of the service of Yahway's house, for the
- 13:34Speaker 1: vessels in Yahway's house. And then it goes into each
- 13:38Speaker 1: individual bowl and fork and spoon and lamp stand and
- 13:44Speaker 1: lamp and table, and pretty much everything else that was
- 13:49Speaker 1: inside the temple. They had a specific weight exactly how
- 13:54Speaker 1: much gold and silver and bronze were to be used
- 13:57Speaker 1: for each individual piece of furniture or implement in the temple.
- 14:02Speaker 1: It's pretty amazing like the amount of detail David had
- 14:06Speaker 1: in planning out this temple. But notice something here in
- 14:09Speaker 1: verse twelve and also in verse nineteen, it mentions two
- 14:13Speaker 1: times in this paragraph that David was led by God
- 14:17Speaker 1: or by the Spirit to write these things down. And
- 14:21Speaker 1: so that begs the question did God want this temple
- 14:24Speaker 1: or not? You know, because on Monday I gave a
- 14:27Speaker 1: whole argument as to why God might not have actually
- 14:31Speaker 1: wanted the temple. But now, in verses eleven and nineteen,
- 14:35Speaker 1: it kind of seems like God did want the temple,
- 14:37Speaker 1: because he was clearly guiding David's hands when writing all
- 14:42Speaker 1: of these things down. Here's what David says in verse nineteen.
- 14:45Speaker 1: All this, David said, I have been made to understand
- 14:49Speaker 1: in writing from Yahweh's hand, even all the works of
- 14:52Speaker 1: this pattern. Now that brings me to Exodus chapter twenty five,
- 14:58Speaker 1: where God himself actually he gave the plans of the
- 15:02Speaker 1: tent of meeting to Moses in the wilderness. Exodus twenty five,
- 15:06Speaker 1: verse nine. According to all that I show you, this
- 15:09Speaker 1: is God speaking the pattern of the tabernacle and the
- 15:12Speaker 1: pattern of all of its furniture. Even so you shall
- 15:15Speaker 1: make it. And then Hebrews eight confirms this in verses
- 15:18Speaker 1: five through six. The priests serve a copy in a
- 15:22Speaker 1: shadow of the heavenly things. Even as Moses was warned
- 15:25Speaker 1: by God when he was about to make the tabernacle,
- 15:28Speaker 1: for he said, see, you shall make everything according to
- 15:31Speaker 1: the pattern that was shown to you on the mountain.
- 15:33Speaker 1: But now He or Jesus, has obtained a more excellent
- 15:37Speaker 1: ministry by as much as he is also the mediator
- 15:39Speaker 1: of a better covenant, which on better promises has been
- 15:43Speaker 1: given as law. So both the accounts of Hebrews and
- 15:47Speaker 1: Exodus says that God himself gave the plans to Moses
- 15:52Speaker 1: in the wilderness. So it's definitely not unheard of that
- 15:55Speaker 1: God would have given plans to David to build this
- 15:58Speaker 1: temple in juri Us. But does that mean that God
- 16:02Speaker 1: wanted this temple built well, First and foremost, scripture does
- 16:07Speaker 1: not give a definite answer as to whether or not
- 16:10Speaker 1: God wanted the temple built. On Monday, I made my
- 16:14Speaker 1: own personal argument as to why I think God did
- 16:17Speaker 1: not want the temple built, and I did qualify it
- 16:20Speaker 1: at the end to say I'm not really sure, though
- 16:23Speaker 1: it doesn't specifically say in scripture. But now today reading
- 16:27Speaker 1: through this, God did give the plans for the building
- 16:31Speaker 1: of the temple to David and Solomon, So it could
- 16:35Speaker 1: be that God did want this temple built, and there
- 16:37Speaker 1: are certainly a lot of verses that could support that claim.
- 16:41Speaker 1: For example, in Second Chronicles seven, right after Solomon finishes
- 16:48Speaker 1: building the temple, here's what it says in verses one
- 16:51Speaker 1: through four. When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from
- 16:56Speaker 1: heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and
- 17:00Speaker 1: Yahwai's glory filled the house. The priests could not enter
- 17:03Speaker 1: into Yawai's house because Yahwai's glory filled Yahwai's house. All
- 17:07Speaker 1: the children of Israel looked on. When the fire came
- 17:10Speaker 1: down and Yahwai's glory was on the house. They bowed
- 17:13Speaker 1: themselves with their faces to the ground on the pavement,
- 17:16Speaker 1: worshiped and gave thanks to Yahweh, saying for he is good,
- 17:20Speaker 1: for his loving kindness endures forever. Then the king and
- 17:23Speaker 1: all the people offered sacrifices before Yahweh. So that right
- 17:27Speaker 1: there is showing that right after the temple was built,
- 17:30Speaker 1: God accepted it. His spirit came down and he lived
- 17:34Speaker 1: inside of that temple. And in fact, his presence in
- 17:37Speaker 1: the temple was so strong that the priests, though they
- 17:40Speaker 1: were a holy could not even enter inside the temple
- 17:44Speaker 1: because of how powerful God's presence really was. So that
- 17:48Speaker 1: shows that God did accept the temple, and those verses
- 17:52Speaker 1: could certainly be evidence as to God actually wanting the
- 17:56Speaker 1: temple to be built, because he accepted it once it
- 17:59Speaker 1: was built. However, there is a third option The third
- 18:03Speaker 1: option is that God didn't really want the temple to
- 18:06Speaker 1: be built, but he allowed it under his permissive will.
- 18:13Speaker 1: That brings me to the theory of permissive will versus
- 18:17Speaker 1: perfect will. When something is in God's perfect will, that
- 18:22Speaker 1: means that that is the best possible outcome, That is
- 18:26Speaker 1: something that God wants for humanity and eventually will be achieved.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Regardless of what we do. God's perfect will is always
- 18:34Speaker 1: going to be done. The best example of God's perfect
- 18:37Speaker 1: will was when he made humanity, and he made them
- 18:41Speaker 1: to be perfect and to live with him forever. But
- 18:44Speaker 1: of course God also gave humans free will right, meaning
- 18:49Speaker 1: we have the choice to do things that may be
- 18:52Speaker 1: against God's perfect will. So that was when humans came
- 18:56Speaker 1: in and kind of messed everything up, destroyed the perfection
- 19:00Speaker 1: that God initially made. But even though human beings destroyed it,
- 19:06Speaker 1: God's perfect will is still going to be accomplished because
- 19:10Speaker 1: at the end of everything, it says in the Book
- 19:12Speaker 1: of Revelation, God is eventually going to live among his people.
- 19:18Speaker 1: And last night I was reading Isaiah chapter sixty when
- 19:22Speaker 1: it talks about Jesus coming again and what the earth
- 19:24Speaker 1: is going to look like once Jesus finally reigns the
- 19:28Speaker 1: way he should, everything is going to be perfect. There's
- 19:32Speaker 1: going to be this big, beautiful city where everything is
- 19:37Speaker 1: just complete perfection. It is Paradise, and there's going to
- 19:41Speaker 1: be nothing violent that is allowed to enter that city.
- 19:43Speaker 1: No death, no destruction, no misery, nothing, It's just going
- 19:48Speaker 1: to be complete and total purity and holiness. That is
- 19:53Speaker 1: God's perfect will, and it is going to be accomplished.
- 19:56Speaker 1: But in the meantime, because we have free will, God
- 20:00Speaker 1: uses something called permissive will, meaning he permits something that
- 20:05Speaker 1: isn't the ideal because human beings are sinful and we
- 20:10Speaker 1: do sinful things, and sometimes God just allows those things
- 20:14Speaker 1: to happen because God eventually is going to work every
- 20:17Speaker 1: single thing out for our good. And a good example
- 20:21Speaker 1: of God's permissive will that we've seen over the course
- 20:25Speaker 1: of First and Second Kings and also First and Second
- 20:28Speaker 1: Chronicles is Kings themselves. You know, in god Institute of
- 20:32Speaker 1: the Judges, he showed people what the ideal was supposed
- 20:36Speaker 1: to look like, but then of course people just did
- 20:39Speaker 1: it wrong. Sin came in and the people were like,
- 20:42Speaker 1: we don't want these stupid judges, We don't want God
- 20:45Speaker 1: to be our king. We want a human king that
- 20:48Speaker 1: will tell us what to do. We don't want God.
- 20:51Speaker 1: And so God allowed it in his permissive will, and
- 20:53Speaker 1: he told the people, all right, you've rejected me. If
- 20:57Speaker 1: you don't want me as your king, I'm going to
- 20:58Speaker 1: pick the king. And so that was when, of course
- 21:01Speaker 1: God picked Saul. Saul abandoned God. So God rejected Saul
- 21:06Speaker 1: and then picked David. So God is always working in
- 21:09Speaker 1: permissive will. But eventually, of course, like I said, everything
- 21:13Speaker 1: is going to turn out for good. God's perfect will
- 21:17Speaker 1: that was established in the beginning is going to win.
- 21:20Speaker 1: But in the meantime, God often works in permissive will.
- 21:25Speaker 1: So it could be in the case of the Temple
- 21:28Speaker 1: that this was in God's permissive will, not necessarily his
- 21:31Speaker 1: perfect will. Because God had already given the ideal of
- 21:36Speaker 1: what the worship should look like for the Israelites way
- 21:39Speaker 1: back in the wilderness, and that ideal was the Tent
- 21:42Speaker 1: of Meeting, you know, the tent that actually traveled around
- 21:45Speaker 1: with the Israelites, that went from place to place, the
- 21:49Speaker 1: same with the Ark of the Covenant. It was supposed
- 21:51Speaker 1: to be moved around the entire point of it was
- 21:54Speaker 1: to be carried by the levitical priests that was the ideal,
- 21:59Speaker 1: but God saw that people were desiring something other than
- 22:03Speaker 1: the tent of meeting. And once again, like I said
- 22:05Speaker 1: on Monday, I don't necessarily think that David's heart was
- 22:09Speaker 1: wrong when he desired a temple, because the initial reason
- 22:13Speaker 1: David wanted to build a temple to God was because
- 22:16Speaker 1: he felt kind of bad that God's presence was living
- 22:20Speaker 1: inside of a tent. When David himself had this beautiful palace,
- 22:24Speaker 1: He's like, doesn't God deserve something better than just a tent?
- 22:28Speaker 1: So that was David's original thought with everything, due to
- 22:31Speaker 1: his love of God, he wanted God to live in
- 22:34Speaker 1: a beautiful house just like he did. So I don't
- 22:37Speaker 1: necessarily think that David's heart was wrong, but I do
- 22:40Speaker 1: kind of think it was going against the plans that
- 22:43Speaker 1: God had for worship. And all that being said, God
- 22:46Speaker 1: allowed the temple to be built in his permissive will.
- 22:50Speaker 1: So you might be like, well, Jen, how do you
- 22:51Speaker 1: rectify that with the fact that the Holy Spirit himself
- 22:56Speaker 1: was actually helping David write the plans for the temple. Well,
- 23:00Speaker 1: I rectify that by saying that God often leads people
- 23:05Speaker 1: through his permissive will. For example, going back to the
- 23:08Speaker 1: whole thing with the king. You know how the people
- 23:11Speaker 1: rejected God as their king or we're like, no, we
- 23:12Speaker 1: want a human king, though that was outside of God's
- 23:16Speaker 1: perfect will. You know, obviously God being the king of
- 23:19Speaker 1: Israel was the ideal for Israel. But even though the
- 23:24Speaker 1: people rejected God, God still gave them guidance and knowledge
- 23:30Speaker 1: as to how to live with a human king. God's spirit,
- 23:35Speaker 1: the Holy Spirit, it says, actually rested on Saul, so
- 23:39Speaker 1: that Saul was able to become the next king that
- 23:43Speaker 1: was not in God's perfect will, but the Holy Spirit
- 23:46Speaker 1: was still guiding and directing Saul as to how to
- 23:50Speaker 1: become the next king for the people. So it could
- 23:53Speaker 1: be a very similar circumstance here with the building of
- 23:56Speaker 1: the Temple, that though God didn't really want the Temple
- 24:00Speaker 1: to be built for him, he still sent the Holy
- 24:03Speaker 1: Spirit to direct David as to how this could happen
- 24:08Speaker 1: the best possible way. David says, all this I have
- 24:13Speaker 1: been made to understand in writing from Yahwah's hand, even
- 24:16Speaker 1: all the works of this pattern. So yes, I do
- 24:19Speaker 1: believe that God can guide somebody through something that is
- 24:24Speaker 1: not the ideal, something that is in his permissive will,
- 24:29Speaker 1: but not in his perfect will, if that makes sense.
- 24:33Speaker 1: But moving forward in all this, in verse twenty, David
- 24:36Speaker 1: said to Solomon, his son, be strong and courageous and
- 24:39Speaker 1: do it. Don't be afraid nor be dismayed, for Yahweh God,
- 24:43Speaker 1: even my God is with you. He will not fail
- 24:46Speaker 1: you or forsake you until all the work for the
- 24:49Speaker 1: service of Yaway's house is finished. And man, is that
- 24:53Speaker 1: not a true statement because God didn't reject Solomon. He
- 24:58Speaker 1: never rejected Solomon until well into Solomon's life, when Solomon
- 25:04Speaker 1: started just completely disobeying God and worshiping all of these
- 25:08Speaker 1: other idols, even building altars to other idols. That was
- 25:12Speaker 1: when God said to Solomon, all right, enough is enough
- 25:15Speaker 1: with this. So David really truly was a prophet for sure.
- 25:20Speaker 1: And then to end this chapter, David tells Solomon that
- 25:24Speaker 1: he's not going to be alone, even though David is
- 25:26Speaker 1: about to die, He's not going to be alone because
- 25:28Speaker 1: all of these priests and artisans and very intelligent people
- 25:34Speaker 1: are there to help Solomon through this entire building process.
- 25:38Speaker 1: And now moving into First Chronicles twenty nine, Verses one
- 25:42Speaker 1: through nine, David addresses all of the people. It says
- 25:46Speaker 1: David the King said to the assembly, Solomon, my son,
- 25:49Speaker 1: whom alone God has chosen, is yet young and tender,
- 25:53Speaker 1: in other words, young and inexperienced. And the work is
- 25:57Speaker 1: great for the palace is not for man, but for
- 26:00Speaker 1: Yahweh God. Now I have prepared with all my might
- 26:03Speaker 1: for the house of my God, the gold for the
- 26:05Speaker 1: things of gold, the silver for the things of silver,
- 26:07Speaker 1: the bronze for the things of bronze, the iron for
- 26:09Speaker 1: the things of iron, wood for wood, onyx stones, stones
- 26:12Speaker 1: to be set, stones for inlaid work, all kinds of
- 26:15Speaker 1: precious stones and marble stones in abundance. And then in
- 26:18Speaker 1: verses three through five, David gives of his own personal
- 26:23Speaker 1: money to the temple as well. Even though David had tons,
- 26:28Speaker 1: like literal tons of gold and silver set aside for
- 26:32Speaker 1: the building of this temple, David is like, you know
- 26:35Speaker 1: what God's house needs even more, I'm going to give
- 26:38Speaker 1: of my personal stash, my personal gold and silver. And
- 26:43Speaker 1: so David gives of his own personal cash three thousand
- 26:46Speaker 1: talents of gold the gold of oh Fear, and seven
- 26:49Speaker 1: thousand talents of refined silver. So that is tons of
- 26:54Speaker 1: gold and silver like literal tons of gold and silver,
- 26:59Speaker 1: and David dedicated all of this to God's Temple, which
- 27:03Speaker 1: is pretty amazing. So then in verses six through nine,
- 27:07Speaker 1: when the leaders of Israel and the chief priests and
- 27:10Speaker 1: everybody sees how much David is giving to the temple,
- 27:16Speaker 1: they feel compelled themselves to also give. It says between
- 27:20Speaker 1: all the princes of the tribes of Israel, and the
- 27:22Speaker 1: captains of the thousands of hundreds, and the rulers over
- 27:25Speaker 1: the King's work, they offered willingly. It says they gave
- 27:29Speaker 1: for the service of God's House of gold five thousand
- 27:31Speaker 1: talents and ten thousand derrecks, of silver ten thousand talents,
- 27:36Speaker 1: of bronze eighteen thousand talents, and of iron one hundred
- 27:40Speaker 1: thousand talents. So more tons of gold, silver, and bronze
- 27:46Speaker 1: were given for the building of the temple. So now
- 27:50Speaker 1: the temple, I don't even know how many tons of silver, gold,
- 27:54Speaker 1: bronze and iron have been set aside for the building
- 27:57Speaker 1: of this building. Also says that they gave precious stones
- 28:02Speaker 1: as well, so it wasn't just gold, silver, and bronze,
- 28:06Speaker 1: but precious stones for the beautification of the temple. And
- 28:10Speaker 1: then in verse nine. It makes it very clear that
- 28:13Speaker 1: the people did this willingly, that they weren't forced or
- 28:16Speaker 1: compelled to give any of this stuff. But it says
- 28:19Speaker 1: that the people all rejoiced because they offered willingly, because
- 28:23Speaker 1: with a perfect heart, they offered willingly to Yahweh and
- 28:26Speaker 1: David the king also rejoiced with great joy. That probably
- 28:31Speaker 1: means that everybody had a feast. Everybody was just happy.
- 28:35Speaker 1: It was like a big celebration. After all the temple
- 28:39Speaker 1: plans were finished, after all the building supplies were acquired.
- 28:44Speaker 1: Everybody was just so excited to finally have a temple
- 28:48Speaker 1: where they could go and worship God, even though it
- 28:51Speaker 1: wasn't built yet. They were excited for the future and
- 28:55Speaker 1: excited for Solomon to become their next king. So I
- 29:00Speaker 1: hope I didn't confuse you guys too much with the
- 29:02Speaker 1: permissive will and the perfect will of God. I know
- 29:06Speaker 1: it does get kind of confusing when you start getting
- 29:08Speaker 1: into the details of all that stuff, especially when you
- 29:11Speaker 1: throw free will into the mix. Everything gets very, very complicated.
- 29:16Speaker 1: But the most important thing is to know that God
- 29:20Speaker 1: is all powerful and what he wants done is eventually
- 29:23Speaker 1: going to be accomplished, even though he unfortunately has to
- 29:27Speaker 1: work with people who constantly reject him all the time
- 29:31Speaker 1: and try to screw up as much as they possibly can.
- 29:34Speaker 1: But God is always working through that because He is
- 29:37Speaker 1: so powerful and so knowledgeable that even our worst screw
- 29:40Speaker 1: ups aren't going to affect his will in the end,
- 29:44Speaker 1: and that is something I guess we can be really
- 29:46Speaker 1: encouraged about actually, But faithful listeners, I really hope you
- 29:49Speaker 1: guys enjoyed this episode. And like I said at the beginning,
