- 0:32Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Richard Sherman Podcast. And you know
- 0:35Speaker 1: what time it is. It's the off season, which means
- 0:37Speaker 1: we can get into pointless debates about which defense is better.
- 0:41Speaker 1: The twenty fifteen Denver Broncos no Flies on are the
- 0:44Speaker 1: twenty thirteen Seattle Seahawks legion of boom And in my personal,
- 0:49Speaker 1: biased opinion, it's the legion of boom and it's not
- 0:51Speaker 1: even close. But I will make that point in a
- 0:54Speaker 1: lot of ways, in a surgical way throughout this show,
- 0:58Speaker 1: and you'll see what I'm talking about.
- 0:59Speaker 2: But first off, we'll start.
- 1:00Speaker 1: I got a ton of respect for the twenty fifteen
- 1:02Speaker 1: Denver Broncos. Von Miller, DeMarcus whare Key, Chris Harris Junior,
- 1:07Speaker 1: some of my favorite corners, some of my favorite guys
- 1:09Speaker 1: to watch on tape. Some of the best corners of
- 1:12Speaker 1: the National Football League during the decade that we played
- 1:15Speaker 1: very effective. Like my guy TJ wore big time hitter,
- 1:18Speaker 1: a guy who played the game at a high level,
- 1:20Speaker 1: played it the right way. Darien Stewart was a ball
- 1:23Speaker 1: hawlk in that secondary, also laid the hammer. Had a
- 1:27Speaker 1: lot lot of respect for those guys Bruton who played
- 1:30Speaker 1: a really good, really good at that season. But I
- 1:36Speaker 1: just don't see it. I don't I don't see it
- 1:37Speaker 1: being close. You talk about our defense, is two Defensive
- 1:42Speaker 1: Player of the Year candidates that year who came in
- 1:44Speaker 1: top five in voting, third and five respectively. Two first
- 1:49Speaker 1: team All pros. Cam got a second team All Pro.
- 1:53Speaker 1: We got two All Decade members. Chris Harris junior may
- 1:56Speaker 1: the All Decades team, so got to give him respect there.
- 1:59Speaker 1: But that season are I mean it really it really
- 2:04Speaker 1: if you really looked at the paper, it's not even
- 2:07Speaker 1: a debate. It's not even debatable. It's not if you
- 2:10Speaker 1: go back and look at it, it's not even debatable.
- 2:14Speaker 1: If you look at the opponents we played in the
- 2:18Speaker 1: Super Bowl in the offensive efficiency and effectiveness of those teams.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Is it debatable it's really not MVP Cam.
- 2:26Speaker 1: No question about a great year, great season, that season,
- 2:29Speaker 1: you gotta shut him down in the Super Bowl. But
- 2:35Speaker 1: was that season better than than Peyton Manning's twenty thirteen
- 2:37Speaker 1: where he threw fifty five touchdowns and five thousand some yards.
- 2:42Speaker 2: No, I'll tell you that's written. No, it wasn't.
- 2:47Speaker 1: All MVP seasons aren't created equal, and one Peyton had
- 2:52Speaker 1: is in the history books for a reason. And we
- 2:55Speaker 1: shut it down and we made it look easy because
- 2:59Speaker 1: of the deep team had and because of the defense
- 3:01Speaker 1: we had, because of the players we had.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Now, let me explain, because.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Your general manager, John wil Lway, at the time he
- 3:09Speaker 1: said it best. He watched our secondary and said, hey,
- 3:13Speaker 1: we need to recreate that to get back here.
- 3:16Speaker 2: And we appreciate that.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, and we're flattered.
- 3:25Speaker 1: You built the defense based off the legion of boom
- 3:28Speaker 1: and they got to the Super Bowl in dominant fashion
- 3:31Speaker 1: and got the job done.
- 3:34Speaker 2: That's something to be said.
- 3:36Speaker 1: I can respect that, But to then go back and
- 3:39Speaker 1: say we were better, I'm gonna need you to prove
- 3:44Speaker 1: that point. I'm gonna need to see the numbers because
- 3:47Speaker 1: the numbers they not numbering. Today's show is brought to
- 3:59Speaker 1: you by our presenting sponsor, hard Rock Bet, Florida's sportsbook.

- 5:20Speaker 1: because I want to make sure you guys understand this fully.
- 5:25Speaker 1: The no fly zones defense as a whole, including everybody,
- 5:30Speaker 1: had fourteen interceptions.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Fourteen. That's not a ton. That's not a ton. That's
- 5:36Speaker 2: not a lot of interceptions in general.
- 5:39Speaker 1: I had eight alone and twenty thirteen if you just
- 5:44Speaker 1: look at the starting secondary. If you look at Chris
- 5:47Speaker 1: Harris Junior had two, A Keep had three. I think
- 5:53Speaker 1: Darien Stewart had one. Ward had zero. I'll see who
- 5:58Speaker 1: else had had a couple in this in this year
- 6:02Speaker 1: that played.
- 6:02Speaker 2: A ton Bruton. Bruton had two.
- 6:07Speaker 1: So basically, if you take their whole second, starting secondary
- 6:10Speaker 1: and even the safeties that were rotated in, there's about
- 6:13Speaker 1: nine interceptions in there. If you look at our secondary,
- 6:16Speaker 1: just the starters, cam Earl, Thomas, Byron Maxwell, myself, that's
- 6:22Speaker 1: twenty interceptions. Like what are we really talking about here?
- 6:26Speaker 1: What are we really what are we really discussing? If
- 6:29Speaker 1: you go through passing yards per game. The Legion of
- 6:33Speaker 1: Boom gave up one hundred and seventy two passing yards
- 6:35Speaker 1: a game Number one in the league, No Flys one
- 6:39Speaker 1: gave up one ninety nine. That's a that's a twenty
- 6:45Speaker 1: seven yard difference per game. Okay, if you look at
- 6:51Speaker 1: passing tds per game in the Legion of Boom, what
- 6:55Speaker 1: they give up passing touchdowns a game. That's twenty fifteen.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Got my stats right here, Thanks, and gentlemen, I'm not
- 7:06Speaker 1: playing today. Legion of Boom gave up sixteen passing touchdowns
- 7:12Speaker 1: that season. In twenty fifteen, the Denver Broncos defense gave
- 7:17Speaker 1: up nineteen passing touchdowns. Again, how is it a debate?
- 7:22Speaker 1: Gave up more yards, gave up more touchdowns. Now I
- 7:25Speaker 1: hear the debate. Oh, they carried this offense and this
- 7:28Speaker 1: Peyton Manning, you know, was throwing ducks.
- 7:31Speaker 2: And doing all this.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Their offense held the ball for thirty minutes in the game.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Peyton Manning had about the same amount of passing yards
- 7:40Speaker 1: through the playoffs as Russell Wilson.
- 7:42Speaker 2: They ran the ball for about the same amount of
- 7:44Speaker 2: yards as we ran.
- 7:46Speaker 1: The difference between the Legion of Boom and the no
- 7:49Speaker 1: fly zone is your offense would have preferred us. And
- 7:53Speaker 1: Keith said something crazy. He said, we played the sexier
- 7:56Speaker 1: branded defense and y'all would have yall people loved watching us.
- 8:00Speaker 2: That's more.
- 8:01Speaker 1: You know, how many kids have come up to me
- 8:03Speaker 1: and said, man, you made playing dB fun. Again, Man,
- 8:06Speaker 1: you made playing dB cool. We would have given your
- 8:09Speaker 1: offense fourteen more possessions than you guys gave them, and
- 8:14Speaker 1: that's not including the picks that went for touchdowns. So
- 8:18Speaker 1: when you complained about the offense, but you have half
- 8:22Speaker 1: as many interceptions as our defense provided, I don't understand
- 8:26Speaker 1: how the conversation is there. So the offense stopped them
- 8:30Speaker 1: from creating turnovers?
- 8:32Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 8:33Speaker 1: We doubled jump on interceptions. You had fourteen, We had
- 8:36Speaker 1: twenty eight. As a team. We had eight. We had
- 8:40Speaker 1: eight turnovers in the playoffs alone. In three playoff games,
- 8:43Speaker 1: we had eight at three in a Super Bowl. We
- 8:47Speaker 1: had three in the fourth quarter of the NFC Championship alone.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Every time the San Francisco forty nine ers offense lined
- 8:55Speaker 1: up with the ball, the possession ended with us taking
- 8:58Speaker 1: it from them. What are we really talking about? And
- 9:02Speaker 1: then the people saying Oh well, y'all didn't play anybody
- 9:06Speaker 1: in those playoffs. What what what are we talking? We
- 9:11Speaker 1: played Drew Brees in the Divisional He had fifty one
- 9:15Speaker 1: hundred yards, thirty nine passing touchdowns to twelve interceptions. That
- 9:20Speaker 1: would be an MVP season in most seasons. That would
- 9:23Speaker 1: have probably want him the MVP in this day and age.
- 9:28Speaker 1: But Peyton had more. Peyton had the most passing touchdowns,
- 9:32Speaker 1: most passing yards in the history of National Football League.
- 9:37Speaker 1: And we held him to eight points. And we didn't
- 9:39Speaker 1: make it look that hard. We didn't make it look
- 9:42Speaker 1: that hard. Y'all played Cam and A and a bunch
- 9:46Speaker 1: of guys, that receiver that likely wouldn't have been number
- 9:49Speaker 1: one receivers anywhere in the National Football League. Congratulations he
- 9:52Speaker 1: was MVP. Cam had a heck of a year. The
- 9:54Speaker 1: Carolina Panthers had a heck of a year. But it's
- 9:58Speaker 1: not a comparison, guys, it's not. There's no number, stat
- 10:05Speaker 1: or or anything you can put out there that would
- 10:08Speaker 1: prove that point outside of suggest subjective opinions about, oh, well,
- 10:13Speaker 1: you know, I thought they were better than you, guys.
- 10:16Speaker 1: We played man coverage on third down. Anybody out there
- 10:19Speaker 1: please somebody pull up the numbers, pull up the tape,
- 10:22Speaker 1: because watch third down. Nobody's playing one hundred percent man
- 10:25Speaker 1: a man coverage, So don't get that confused. I hate
- 10:29Speaker 1: when people say we played man, they play zone. No
- 10:31Speaker 1: you didn't. You played zone and we played some man.
- 10:34Speaker 1: You played some zone, We played some man. We played
- 10:36Speaker 1: some man. Y'all played some zone. Like that's how football works.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Because but the difference is we didn't play zone because
- 10:46Speaker 1: we had to. We didn't play zone because we were
- 10:48Speaker 1: incapable of playing man. We could have played man. We
- 10:50Speaker 1: did play man when push came and shove. You can
- 10:53Speaker 1: watch the tape and somebody can pull up the percentages.
- 10:56Speaker 1: I know somebody out there has has gone down and
- 10:59Speaker 1: combed through our and can show you we probably played
- 11:02Speaker 1: I don't know, eighteen percent man and man coverage was
- 11:05Speaker 1: probably right around the league average. We played it on
- 11:07Speaker 1: third down because you got to play it on third down,
- 11:09Speaker 1: and played it on second down sometimes when the situation
- 11:12Speaker 1: called for, it played on first down. Sometimes when when
- 11:14Speaker 1: the run game and the situation called for. There's a
- 11:16Speaker 1: lot of factors that go into playing man and man
- 11:18Speaker 1: coverage versus own. But when you have players as smart
- 11:23Speaker 1: as the players we had. You have some of the
- 11:25Speaker 1: highest IQ players in the National Football League on your defense.
- 11:28Speaker 1: kJ Wright one of the smartest players in the National
- 11:31Speaker 1: Football League, Cam Chancer one of the smartest players in
- 11:33Speaker 1: the National Football League myself, Earl Thomas. Then it's a
- 11:38Speaker 1: waste of resources to say, hey, we're gonna put you
- 11:40Speaker 1: on this guy and you stop him, because that might
- 11:42Speaker 1: not even be the guy that beats you. That might
- 11:46Speaker 1: not be Jackson Smith and Jig But was the offensive
- 11:49Speaker 1: player of the Year this season, honestly the best receiver
- 11:52Speaker 1: in the National Football League. He went out of the
- 11:54Speaker 1: Super Bowl very early. What did man coverage matter? At
- 11:59Speaker 1: the point? What matters is taking a football away. And
- 12:04Speaker 1: that's why most teams play zone. Now, most teams play
- 12:06Speaker 1: predominantly zone, and you're not seeing a lot of teams
- 12:09Speaker 1: that play predominantly man make.
- 12:10Speaker 2: The Super Bowl because it's easily beaten.
- 12:12Speaker 1: It's not easily beaten because you just don't have the personnel,
- 12:15Speaker 1: but schematically it's easily beaten.
- 12:18Speaker 2: You can you canna have.
- 12:19Speaker 1: The best goringner in the league in the scheme, they
- 12:20Speaker 1: can run a play where people getting his way and
- 12:23Speaker 1: the receiver just weaves his way through all the way
- 12:25Speaker 1: across the field and is now open, like there's nothing
- 12:29Speaker 1: protecting the dB from just getting picked off during the
- 12:32Speaker 1: play by bodies. So you lead a lot of things
- 12:36Speaker 1: up to chance, up to the referees calling a penalty.
- 12:39Speaker 1: So our defense was, Hey, really, smart players, we're gonna
- 12:44Speaker 1: we're gonna run. We're gonna run the same defense as
- 12:46Speaker 1: often as we can, and when we gotta run man
- 12:48Speaker 1: and keep things tight, we will. But we're gonna allow
- 12:51Speaker 1: our intelligence to benefit us in the maximum way. And
- 12:55Speaker 1: that's what we did. That's why we had so many turnovers.
- 12:58Speaker 1: That's why we had twenty eight interceptions by the starting secondary,
- 13:01Speaker 1: because smart players were putting themselves in position to be successful. Like,
- 13:07Speaker 1: when you run the same defense, it's nothing special, they're
- 13:10Speaker 1: not the coaches were putting a ton of seasoning on
- 13:12Speaker 1: these plays they run. It's not some exotic blitz package
- 13:15Speaker 1: where we're depending on the coordinator to put us in
- 13:17Speaker 1: position to be successful. No, it's really smart players saying, hey,
- 13:20Speaker 1: this is what we're running, this is the formation they're
- 13:22Speaker 1: giving us, These are their tendencies in the formation, communicating thoroughly,
- 13:26Speaker 1: Hey you got this, Hey we're gonna bastardize this this way,
- 13:30Speaker 1: to give them a too high look, or to give
- 13:32Speaker 1: them this look, and then we're gonna run the route
- 13:34Speaker 1: for them and we're gonna take the football from them.
- 13:37Speaker 1: They gave us opportunities to see the formation, to see
- 13:40Speaker 1: the ball. That's why we ran the defense we ran
- 13:43Speaker 1: because we were really smart and it what made us
- 13:46Speaker 1: really really effective. And that's why we led the league
- 13:49Speaker 1: in turnovers, we led the league in passing yards, we
- 13:51Speaker 1: led the league, and we let the league in scoring
- 13:53Speaker 1: for four years straight. You know why we do that
- 13:57Speaker 1: because we are coaches on the field. We're understanding what
- 14:02Speaker 1: we're dealing with, We're understanding the personnel we're dealing with,
- 14:04Speaker 1: and then we're just damn good players. And we'll go
- 14:08Speaker 1: back to Leeds commentary about if you put the two
- 14:13Speaker 1: secondaries against each other, I'm picking me all day. First off,
- 14:17Speaker 1: and Lee, there's not a corner in this world that's
- 14:19Speaker 1: gonna say anything other than what Leave said. I'm sure
- 14:21Speaker 1: if you ask Chris Harris Junior, he's saying the same thing.
- 14:23Speaker 1: You ask Bayern Maxwell, he's saying saying, that's how we built,
- 14:25Speaker 1: that's how corners talk.
- 14:27Speaker 2: I'm picking.
- 14:28Speaker 1: I'm not picking nobody over myself at any time any place.
- 14:30Speaker 1: I'm sorry, especially guys that played in the same time
- 14:33Speaker 1: as I played. So I respect that. I ain't got
- 14:37Speaker 1: no problem with that, But that's not saying that the
- 14:40Speaker 1: necessary truth if you took there are guys on our
- 14:44Speaker 1: secondary that if you took from our secondary in twenty
- 14:48Speaker 1: thirteen and put them on the Denver Broncos secondary, they'd
- 14:51Speaker 1: be the best guys in that secondary. As that debatable point,
- 14:54Speaker 1: is that something that we're debating. I had eight interceptions
- 14:57Speaker 1: in the season that season, the seasons we're comparing to
- 15:01Speaker 1: twenty thirteen versus twenty fifteen, that would have objectively been
- 15:07Speaker 1: a better season than anybody on that secondary. Earl Thomas
- 15:11Speaker 1: had five interceptions that season, first team All Pro, third Defensive.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Player of the Year voting.
- 15:16Speaker 1: That would have objectively been better than any season anybody
- 15:19Speaker 1: on Denver Broncos secondary. Had Cam Chancer, second team All Pro,
- 15:23Speaker 1: with a ton of devastating hits, a ton of really
- 15:26Speaker 1: incredible moments that you weren't seeing. I mean, some of
- 15:28Speaker 1: the greatest plays in Super Bowl history that you're really
- 15:31Speaker 1: not appreciating, and I wish I could break him down
- 15:33Speaker 1: for you. He was getting a scene where falls off
- 15:36Speaker 1: the scene to cover the over route that should have
- 15:38Speaker 1: been wide open. Peyton Manning was pulling his hair out
- 15:41Speaker 1: about it because they thought that was a gimme, and
- 15:44Speaker 1: it should have been. But if not for cam Chancer's
- 15:46Speaker 1: incredible play. But I say all this to say, the
- 15:51Speaker 1: gap between the twenty thirteen Legion of Boom and the
- 15:53Speaker 1: twenty fifteen No Flies On isn't even a closable gap.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Now, let's step back.
- 15:59Speaker 1: If you compared the twenty fifteen Denver Broncos to the
- 16:01Speaker 1: twenty fifteen Seattle Seahawks, then you got a better argument.
- 16:05Speaker 1: You got something to say. Damn you got you got
- 16:07Speaker 1: a point to make. That was a down year for us,
- 16:11Speaker 1: but we still led the league in points. We still
- 16:14Speaker 1: were better than the twenty fifteen Denver Broncos in point
- 16:17Speaker 1: We were second in yards. We gave up less passing touchdowns,
- 16:21Speaker 1: had the same amount of interceptions. Like, again, you're you're
- 16:26Speaker 1: not even gonna be able to find a great gap
- 16:28Speaker 1: there they had. They gave up to one and ninety
- 16:32Speaker 1: nine passing yards a game. I think we gave up
- 16:34Speaker 1: to ten. Like people were like y'all lost to the
- 16:38Speaker 1: Panthers that year and they beat the Panthers. We gave
- 16:43Speaker 1: up one hundred and sixty one yards in one touchdown
- 16:46Speaker 1: to Cam Newton. I think y'all gave up two forty
- 16:48Speaker 1: five in the Super Bowl. Like it just doesn't always
- 16:52Speaker 1: work out perfectly in these games. Yead Jonathan Stewart had
- 16:55Speaker 1: had a great run in the game. There was a
- 16:57Speaker 1: there were some some plays that that are offense would
- 17:00Speaker 1: have wanted it back. Some plays we would have won
- 17:02Speaker 1: it back. Shoot, it wasn't our best work were that
- 17:05Speaker 1: was our off year. We did not play as well
- 17:07Speaker 1: as we should have been that game, and they played
- 17:09Speaker 1: the better game than they won.
- 17:10Speaker 2: That's why they want but to act like.
- 17:14Speaker 1: This was some crazy deal and to actually ignore the
- 17:18Speaker 1: offense that we faced in the Super Bowl, which is
- 17:21Speaker 1: one of the statistically greatest of all time, and we
- 17:24Speaker 1: made them look like they were a JV team that
- 17:27Speaker 1: got to play on the same field as us. They
- 17:29Speaker 1: got the garbage time touchdown that we were pretty upset about.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Demarius had a bunch of catches and garbage time. But
- 17:35Speaker 1: for the most part, we just dominated them from start
- 17:37Speaker 1: to finish.
- 17:38Speaker 2: They ran that hurry up stuff. We were better. We
- 17:40Speaker 2: were more prepared.
- 17:41Speaker 1: We were ready for all of it, all the smoke
- 17:44Speaker 1: we scored, even if you take away the pat our
- 17:47Speaker 1: defense scored eight points in that game. Our special team
- 17:50Speaker 1: scored six, so that would have been fourteen. That would
- 17:52Speaker 1: have been enough to win without our offense stepping on
- 17:54Speaker 1: the field with the kind of game we played. And
- 17:58Speaker 1: again I keep hearing this, like, oh man, they drugged
- 18:02Speaker 1: this offense. I would imagine we would have drug them
- 18:07Speaker 1: there too, and would have made it look easy. Wou'd
- 18:08Speaker 1: have made it easier with more turnovers.
- 18:10Speaker 2: We ticked the ball.
- 18:11Speaker 1: We took pride in coming over, getting on the field
- 18:13Speaker 1: and saying, hey, we about to take the football again.
- 18:17Speaker 2: And in this day and age, it's hard to do.
- 18:19Speaker 1: So I say all that to say, if you guys,
- 18:23Speaker 1: if somebody can show me a stat or a number
- 18:26Speaker 1: that makes their point, I'm all ears, But there aren't many.
- 18:32Speaker 1: There aren't many. And the man versus his own stuff
- 18:35Speaker 1: isn't isn't what y'all making it out to be. Right
- 18:38Speaker 1: now in this day and age, nobody's playing more than
- 18:41Speaker 1: I think Denver played thirty thirty two percent. Cleveland played
- 18:44Speaker 1: a really crazy amount. I think they might have played forty,
- 18:47Speaker 1: which is outrageous for this time. I don't think before
- 18:51Speaker 1: them that the league average is like thirty four thirty
- 18:55Speaker 1: five at its highest in twenty nineteen. It's at about
- 18:59Speaker 1: twenty two now the league average man coverage percentage of
- 19:02Speaker 1: man coverage playing. Most people only play it on third down.
- 19:05Speaker 1: It doesn't make a ton of sense to play in
- 19:06Speaker 1: the red zone because teams are getting too creative. And again,
- 19:11Speaker 1: it just feels like lazy coordinating to put your defense
- 19:13Speaker 1: in those positions where hey, it doesn't matter what you do.
- 19:16Speaker 1: They can pick you off, they can run away from you,
- 19:19Speaker 1: they can motion back and forth, get lost at the
- 19:21Speaker 1: snap and then run the opposite way and you beat like.
- 19:26Speaker 1: It really puts a lot of weight on the secondary
- 19:29Speaker 1: and on the player to get things right. And even
- 19:32Speaker 1: when you get things right, it might be in an
- 19:33Speaker 1: incredible catch like That's why the Super Bowl winning teams
- 19:39Speaker 1: over the last couple of years have not played a
- 19:40Speaker 1: ton of man coverage. A lot of them are six
- 19:43Speaker 1: big vangil six this, two highbrid cover three three fire zones.
- 19:51Speaker 1: A lot of coverages like that. That's what the league
- 19:53Speaker 1: has moved to. And again, if you really look at
- 19:57Speaker 1: a lot of teams still play Cover three because it's
- 19:59Speaker 1: still great against the it still does the job that
- 20:01Speaker 1: it needs to do in sacking eight in the box
- 20:03Speaker 1: and getting guys gap sound. Seattle Seayawk still played in
- 20:06Speaker 1: a lot of Cover three this year. They played too high,
- 20:09Speaker 1: they played six, they played four, they played two man,
- 20:13Speaker 1: they played regular man, but they played a lot of
- 20:15Speaker 1: three as well.
- 20:15Speaker 2: So I just don't get it. I don't get it.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Y'all could tell me I'm wrong, but the numbers support
- 20:22Speaker 1: what I'm saying, and I don't see what the numbers
- 20:25Speaker 1: how you can beat those numbers. If the numbers were
- 20:27Speaker 1: the opposite way, I wouldn't have an argument to make.
- 20:30Speaker 1: If you said the Denver Broncos had had a better
- 20:35Speaker 1: points per game than us. We had fourteen, they had eighteen,
- 20:40Speaker 1: then I wouldn't.
- 20:41Speaker 2: I wouldn't. I wouldn't be able to make that argument.
- 20:43Speaker 1: If they had given up less passing yards per game
- 20:46Speaker 1: than US, I wouldn't be able to make this argument.
- 20:48Speaker 1: If they had double our interceptions, I wouldn't be able
- 20:51Speaker 1: to make this argument. And the opposite would be true
- 20:53Speaker 1: and it would be factual if they could make the claim, hey,
- 20:56Speaker 1: we had double y'all interceptions like, what are we talking about?
- 21:00Speaker 1: How would that be an argument? How would it be
- 21:03Speaker 1: an argument if you said, hey, we had we had
- 21:06Speaker 1: thirteen more turnovers than y'all as a defense, how would
- 21:09Speaker 1: it be an argument. The part of the argument that
- 21:14Speaker 1: changes it is the two Hall of Fame pass rushers
- 21:18Speaker 1: they had. Von Miller was the best player on that defense.
- 21:21Speaker 1: I think if you ask anybody who the best player
- 21:25Speaker 1: on our defense that season was, it would start with
- 21:27Speaker 1: the secondary, regardless of who you pick. Now, Bobby Wagner is,
- 21:32Speaker 1: in my opinion, the best middle linebacker they ever played
- 21:35Speaker 1: in the National Football League, and his numbers and accolades
- 21:37Speaker 1: support that. I think Cliff Aver and Mike Bennett are
- 21:41Speaker 1: two of the best pass rushers. They're going to be
- 21:43Speaker 1: underrated for most of their career, but in twenty thirteen
- 21:46Speaker 1: they were. They weren't even the starters that year. It
- 21:48Speaker 1: was Chris Clemens and Red Bryan Steele, and they would
- 21:52Speaker 1: and people don't even realize that. That's what made us
- 21:54Speaker 1: so great is how deep we were. Bruce was coming
- 21:57Speaker 1: off the bench. It was a lot of guys, great guys,
- 22:00Speaker 1: truck drivers coming off the bench. Brian Brandon mee bang
- 22:03Speaker 1: was starting shit, kJ and Malcolm were rotating at times.
- 22:09Speaker 1: kJ and Mulckham were rotating to the point where Malcolm
- 22:12Speaker 1: ends up getting Super Bowl MVP.
- 22:15Speaker 2: It's crazy.
- 22:15Speaker 1: And then we're not even talking about Walter Thurman, the
- 22:18Speaker 1: third who would have been a starter on every team
- 22:20Speaker 1: in the National Football League that season and he got
- 22:22Speaker 1: a little banged up and things didn't work out like
- 22:24Speaker 1: it should. But one of the best Nickels in the
- 22:25Speaker 1: National Football League that season as well, and Byron Maxwell
- 22:29Speaker 1: would have led for the twenty thirteen season, would have
- 22:32Speaker 1: led to Denver Broncos in interceptions, Like.
- 22:36Speaker 2: If it was the other way, would it be an argument.
- 22:39Speaker 2: It wouldn't. It wouldn't.
- 22:40Speaker 1: So that's why I don't understand where the ankst and
- 22:43Speaker 1: this conversation has gotten and how it's gotten out of control.
- 22:48Speaker 2: It's like not supported by anything. And if it was,
- 22:51Speaker 2: I would respect it.
- 22:52Speaker 1: I would respect if Leeb had eight interceptions first team
- 22:56Speaker 1: All Pro, fifth and Defensive Player of the Year voting,
- 23:00Speaker 1: and I had three interceptions and we won the Super
- 23:02Speaker 1: Bowl and we were playing a lot of man, I'd say, Lee,
- 23:06Speaker 1: you had a better season that year, Like I think
- 23:09Speaker 1: I'm better and I think you know, I still got
- 23:11Speaker 1: my numbers and I still do my thing. But if
- 23:13Speaker 1: we're comparing him to seasons, he got that one. That's
- 23:17Speaker 1: all I'm saying. That's all I'm saying. Guys got a
- 23:19Speaker 1: lot of respect for what they did, uh that season
- 23:22Speaker 1: they dominated, But what we did is better, and that's
- 23:30Speaker 1: the easy way to put it. Appreciate y'all joining me
- 23:32Speaker 1: as always. You could be anywhere in the world, but
- 23:34Speaker 1: you're here with me, and I surely do appreciate it.
- 23:37Speaker 2: We'll see you next time.
