- 3:01serving his community on July twenty third, nineteen fifty three.
- 3:06On the night of his death, he was engaged in
- 3:08the pursuit of an escaped convict Navarre James Arthur Pittman.
- 3:13Holbrook located Pittman in a stolen nineteen forty seven Chevrolet
- 3:16tu door sedan at the Camp Christie section of strong
- 3:19fork as he approached the vehicle. A violent confrontation ensued,
- 3:24resulting in Holbrook being shot once in the chest with

- 3:30managed to return fire, killing Pittman before succumbing to his
- 3:34wounds shortly thereafter at the age of forty seven, leaving
- 3:37behind a wife and seven children. In honor of Holbrook's
- 3:42dedication and ultimate sacrifice, Breathett County Circuit Clerk James Elliott
- 3:46Turner proposed the designation of a portion of the highway
- 3:49as the J. C. Holbrook Memorial Highway. This initiative was
- 3:53successfully sponsored by Representative Chris Fugut and subsequently passed by
- 3:58the Kentucky General Assembly. A dedication ceremony took place at

- 6:44Councillor's Desk by Randy Cloth. Changing the conversation within Part
- 6:49two as presented last week, let's continue to look more
- 6:53closely at one important part of emotional self care, the
- 6:57conversation we have within ourselves. When talking to people in
- 7:01my office dealing with tremendous problems, distress and difficult situations,
- 7:06I have encouraged them to think about what they can
- 7:08do to deal more effectively with these things. It seems
- 7:11that people can talk more readily about what they can do,
- 7:14but struggle to come up with help helpful, constructive thoughts.
- 7:18Taking steps to deal with one's troubles is important, indeed,
- 7:22but we also need to work on our thought patterns.
- 7:24Our self talk and our thoughts should not be neglected,
- 7:28but need to be developed and enhanced in ways that
- 7:30are more helpful and healthy. The mind is powerful, and
- 7:34how we think about things can be helpful or harmful harmful.
- 7:38In this fallen, messed up world, we face obstacles. Some
- 7:41very serious relationship problems. Financial hardships, physical health issues, the
- 7:46loss of loved ones, even a spiritual crisis are often
- 7:50very distressing. It is not unusual to deal with several
- 7:53of these at one time, which only compounds the stress level.
- 7:57People often talk about overthinking, and it's not always a
- 8:00good thing. It is natural to worry and even be
- 8:03fearful at times, but the thing to do is to
- 8:06strive not to overdo it. Produce a plan to deal
- 8:09with problems and consider more helpful thoughts. For instance, if
- 8:13you're dealing with serious or chronic health problems, think of
- 8:16positive healthy thoughts. Some examples, if I seek the best
- 8:20medical care available and follow their treatment recommendations, I will improve.
- 8:26Or if I keep eating healthy, staying active and exercise
- 8:30as I'm able, that will be helpful too. Once I
- 8:33was terribly ill for a period, with an illness that
- 8:36made functioning and enjoying life difficult. My daughter's mother in law, Betty,
- 8:40was dealing with chronic, life threatening illness. I remember thinking,
- 8:44at least I'm not dealing with something life threatening. It
- 8:47was not that I was uncaring. Indeed, at those times
- 8:50I would breathe a prayer for her. Sadly, she has
- 8:53passed away since that time. She was a wonderful person,
- 8:56a long time elementary school teacher. She was a godly woman,
- 9:00faithful despite her illness, strong, and she dearly loved and
- 9:04cared for her family. There are always others in worse condition. Faith, hope, grit,
- 9:10and a dose of optimism will go a long way
- 9:12toward healing. Try not to focus excessively on your pain, dizziness, fear,
- 9:17and weariness. Distraction can be helpful concerning all this more
- 9:22about that next week. No matter what challenges you may
- 9:25be facing, keep hoping, praying, believing and trusting, and never
- 9:30give up. If you or someone you know as experiencing
- 9:34severe emotional distress or suicidal thoughts, professional help is available.
- 9:39Call the crisis line at one eight hundred two six
- 9:42two seven four nine one or just nine eight eight,
- 9:46go to the emergency room, or contact a qualified counselor.
- 9:50For appointments with professional counselors, call eight hundred five seven

- 9:59health guidance at his same not a substitute for professional advice.
- 10:02Always consult a mental health provider or a physician with
- 10:05specific concerns. Seeking help is an important step in caring
- 10:10for mental health. Life on the Old Dirt Road by
- 10:13Bobby Thorpe A trip to Jackson. In Jackson, a trip
- 10:18to play video games was a tradition to remember. I
- 10:21can remember on Friday evenings I would get to go
- 10:24to Maloney's and while the family shopped, I visited the
- 10:27arcades located in the store. In the game room there
- 10:30was Donkey Kong, Pac Manned, Galaxian Phoenix, and several other
- 10:34games could be played for a quarter a game. Another
- 10:38fun place to play games was on Court Street at
- 10:40the Hub Arcade. Unique games could be found at the Hub,
- 10:44and a trip there was always fun. The building that
- 10:47housed the Hub is no longer in Jackson due to
- 10:49its demolition to construct the Judicial Center. Just down the
- 10:53street on College Avenue was Bow and Scotty's Game Room.
- 10:56At this location, many arcade games, along with pool tables
- 10:59and pita ball machines could be found. There was also
- 11:02a food bar and one could get a cold soda,
- 11:05burger and fries. After many began buying home video game systems,
- 11:10the arcade game slowly faded away. Replicas of the old
- 11:13arcade classics have recently went on sale once again at
- 11:17the local Walmart. My first home video game system was
- 11:20an Atari. I currently own this system and several games,
- 11:24along with my favorite games, Pitfall and Defender. Of course,
- 11:28for those who didn't play video games. Several basketball and
- 11:31baseball leagues were formed across the country. Different communities around
- 11:35the area would form the teams and take on other communities.
- 11:38One of the teams that comes to mind is the
- 11:40Shucky Bean All Stars. Our family would gather at our
- 11:43grandfather's house on the weekends and play a day long
- 11:46game of softball where we always had fun. Trips to
- 11:50town to play video games and hands on sports always
- 11:53bring back great memories of my childhood on the old
- 11:56dirt road. So be it by Pastor Naomi How to
- 12:01prosper Part two. When PS One says blessed is the man,
- 12:05it means happy, It means blessable. Blessed is the man.
- 12:10The Hebrew word a share is here translated blessed, which
- 12:13has the idea of happiness or contentment. A share is
- 12:16a form of the Hebrew word ashar, which in its
- 12:19root means to be straight or to be right. Blessed
- 12:23is the man speaks of the happiness, the blessedness, the
- 12:26contentment in the life of the man or woman who
- 12:29is right or straight with God. The righteous man will
- 12:32be a blessed man, a happy man, blessed is the
- 12:35man that walketh not in the council of the ungodly,
- 12:38nor stands in the way of the sinners, nor sits
- 12:41in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is
- 12:44in the law of the law of the Lord. And
- 12:46in his law does meditate day and night. And he
- 12:50shall be like a tree planted by rivers of water,
- 12:53that bringeth forth his fruit in his season. His lief
- 12:57also shall not wither. Whatsoever he does shall prosper. The
- 13:01first thing it says to do is this, nor standeth
- 13:04in the way of sinners. Look at how the people
- 13:07behave around you that you are associating with. When you
- 13:10got saved, you became God's ambassador. An ambassador has one job,
- 13:15and that's to make the person you represent look good.
- 13:18We have one job, and that is to make Jesus
- 13:20look good. Did we make Jesus look good? On the job?
- 13:24On the road? At the store? The phone has lots
- 13:27of counsel. The second thing it says to do is this,
- 13:31nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful the corner.
- 13:34The scorner is a griper, It is a complainer, It
- 13:37is an unhappy camper, It is an egregious sin against God.
- 13:41To gripe, not to gripe too much, but to gripe
- 13:43at all. God killed thousands of the children of Israel
- 13:47because they griped. Well. You may say I don't gripe
- 13:50like the world, et cetera. The Bible says, neither murmur. Ye,
- 13:55it is a sin to gripe. Let your speech always
- 13:58be seasoned with grace. Let not corrupt communication come out
- 14:01of your mouth. The Bible says, let the words of
- 14:04my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable
- 14:07in your sight. We are the people with joy, joy unspeakable.
- 14:13Griping is a sin. If we don't bridle the tongue,
- 14:15our religion is worthless. It is vain. The word gripe
- 14:19and scorn have something in common that they both express
- 14:23negative feelings, specifically showing displeasure and dissatisfaction with something or someone.
- 14:29Both share negative feelings and have a venting attitude. We
- 14:33need these promises activated in our life. I'm not going
- 14:36to let my eyes and my ears be where the
- 14:40not God Way stuff is invading. I got one job
- 14:43in my life. I'm going to make Jesus look good.
- 14:46I'm absolutely done griping or being scornful about anything. We
- 14:50all have issues going on in life. As a child
- 14:53of God. If we are to prosper, then we are
- 14:55to live in alignment with His word every day, striving
- 14:58to be more christ Like. Have a blessed week, Amen,
- 15:02so be it. I will now read the breath At
