- Greg: What's up guys, welcome to the Thursday, April 2nd edition of Beliefs, Ballots and Bets, where we're going to talk a little bit of everything from scripture and faith, current events and politics, friends and family and relationships. And yeah, we're going to get into some sports and some betting. We got a few plays we're going to share at end of the show today. So stay tuned. Now as you guys know, we try to base everything we do and everything we say on the scripture, the word of God, the holy Bible. It's what I try to base every decision in my life on and it's what I try to make everything that I do revolve around. It's not always easy, but it's a goal. The theme of the day is the power of the tongue, the power of our words, and I think sometimes we all lose sight of just how important and powerful In wrapping up, we're going to get to the sports segment. We're going to get to our three plays of the day. Guys, I'm not going to sugar coat it. It has been a miserable couple of days run. I believe in the process. I believe in what we're doing. I have done this a long time. I have been through the highs and lows. I'm not going to change anything about what I do. I'm going to run the numbers every day. I'm going to look at angles. I'm going to look at spots. And if I see something on the board that I believe we have value on, I'm going to ask you guys to fire on it. I understand if you tread a little bit lightly these days. So in closing, let's remember the power of our words. Let's remember how much those words can have an impact on the people that matter to us from an emotional level. Let's think about possibly investing positively into the people around us and let's just see what that produces. And then let's think about not just from an energy standpoint but an accuracy standpoint. Let's just all focus on trying to be more cognizant of fact checking ourselves. Another thing, if you guys have been paying attention here lately, one of the kind of running themes we've talked a lot about is, man, just how hard it is these days to know what's true. We are bombarded with and overwhelmed with the abundance of more information than any human being ever thought we'd have at our fingertips, but we don't know if any of it's any good or not. Before we put something out there that might cause another person to respond or react, let's make sure it's true. It's a very biblical sentence. Thou shalt not lie. Thou shalt not bear false witness. We know these things. We all need to do better. Get in your Bibles, say your prayers, trust the Lord with everything because right now that is the only thing you can trust. Love you guys. God bless. We know how much stuff out there, especially online, is being shaped by a particular narrative of one way or the other. And we all know that as AI continues to develop, this is only going to become harder. It's going to come down to us. The whole AI revolution and all of these things we're dealing with is never going to be fixed by Congress. This is never going to be something politicians get involved with. They're the most corrupt people on the planet. the things we say to other people are. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 18, 21, death and life are in the power of the tongue. I don't think that's hyperbolic in any way. I think we have all lost sight of just how vindictive and hateful some of the things we say to people are. I know speaking from personal experience, I happen to be somebody who... If I was following me, I'd probably be treading a little bit lightly too. Three plays for the day, we're gonna get into the college basketball first. We're gonna go with Rutgers and Creighton. We're gonna go under the total of 151 and a half. I've run this every different way possible. I like this number, I think we come in under here. And then we're gonna move into the NBA for the next two plays. We got two plays in the NBA tonight. We're go the LA Lakers at the Oklahoma City Thunder. You know my fans on LeBron if you've heard any of the podcasts or anything I've ever put out into this universe. I am not a LeBron guy. I'm not a Lakers guy. I love Luca Donchets, but this Oklahoma City team is just hell on wheels. And if they get moving, I think they pull away late. Give me Oklahoma City to cover the nine and a half. And then the last play, we're to go with the home Golden State Warriors plus 10 and a half Cleveland rolls into town. This is, this is just a matchup spot. like Golden State at home. I know they're still dealing with a bunch of injuries, but more often than not tends to shape myself into what other people make me believe I am. I am one of those odd people, I guess, that if you make me feel good about myself, if you speak good things into existence for me, I am more likely to give you what you're looking for out of me. I don't respond well to criticism. Negative energy consumes me. And I don't think I'm alone. I think people try to put on a brave face. People try to act like things don't bother them. People try to just put their head down and go through things. The only thing that can save us right now, I believe, is us. I think at some point, this is all gonna just break down to individual by individual making the decision that I will no longer willingly or intentionally put something out into this universe that I do not know to be true. And that sounds so simplistic. But think about it, and I'm as guilty as anybody of finding a story online and immediately reposting it or sharing it without verifying anything. Give me a double digit dog at home. Give me Golden State plus 10 and a half. Three plays. We got Rutgers Creighton under 151 and a half. We got Oklahoma City Thunder minus nine and a half. And then we've got the Golden State Warriors plus 10 and a half. Again, I know it's been a tough run. I apologize. We're gonna do better. Hopefully today's that three and a day that turns everything around and we get back on track. So those are the three plays. Put them in. We'll get back to you tomorrow. But the truth is a lot of the things we're absorbing, a lot of the words people are saying to us, a lot of the things we're seeing online, these are leaving an indelible mark. These are having long-term impacts. I'm a grown man and I think about how hard it is for me to get through the day just with the things I hear and see. I can't imagine for the younger generation, the things our kids are exposed to. I've got two wonderful teenage daughters, 14 and 17. They're growing up in a completely different world than I did. or the worst things you see out there now all the time is attention grabbing headline that then three sentences into the article you realize the headline is a complete lie. But they're just doing it to get clicks. So much out there is just to get attention, just to get engagement. And look, I'm a podcast host. We do this stuff too. I engage with as much as I can online trying to get people to follow us and hear my opinions. I'm not trying to be a hypocrite. I'm just saying that we all need to do a little bit better if we want to have any sort of positive movement in this world. And let's be real, America first is all that I'm worried about. As Americans, let's remember what built this country. Let's find some semblance of unity. And I think the one thing that can unify all of us is to get back to telling the truth. If we can focus on telling the truth, then we can all make better decisions. And as a father, that is absolutely terrifying. The things they're exposed to, I can only imagine the long-term impacts that's gonna have. And none of us even know yet, because all of this is so new to us. But to get back to the point, guys, as you speak to people, and I'm not just talking about direct one-on-one conversations with people that matter to you, I'm saying let's take this bigger picture. Let's really all try to focus on and be more aware of the... Because right now we're all trying to make decisions on things that we don't know to be factual or not. And that's scary, but it's real and we all have to be aware of it. So we're going to wrap this segment up. We talked about it from a scripture standpoint, the power of the tongue. So that's not just as much about the negative energy or positive energy as in the way you speak to people, but also in what you say, what you put out there. And let's all just try to do a little bit better of saying, Hey, the energy we put out there, the words and the things we choose to say. It is an old adage of, before you say something, you should ask yourself, you know, is it necessary? Is it true? I think we should all do those things. And if something is unpolite and gonna hurt someone's feelings, unless it's necessary, keep it to yourself. We live in such a world where people are so quick to hate on each other and come back at each other and everything online is an argument just waiting to happen. If I don't know something is true, maybe I don't need to say it. We're looking for it. We have become so consumed with negative energy that people can't even listen to each other anymore. They are just looking for an opportunity to interject and argue and cut somebody down. Our words are powerful, friends. Let's use them for something good. Give it a try. See what happens. Talk to your spouse in such a way that it blows their mind. Make your spouse feel like they are the person you wish they were. and just maybe they'll start getting there.
