- 0:00Speaker 1: Thanks Mike Lane. Last night you pick up the point
- 0:03Speaker 1: in Jersey. But after the game your comments last night,
- 0:07Speaker 1: felt that there was a lot left on the table
- 0:08Speaker 1: for this cracking team. What did you make of last
- 0:10Speaker 1: night's performance?
- 0:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I just overall, you know, there was some good
- 0:17Speaker 2: parts of it, and you know, I just thought we
- 0:20Speaker 2: weren't as sharp as we should have been. I feel
- 0:25Speaker 2: like the game was there for the taking.
- 0:27Speaker 1: You know, we.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Almost had it, but almost doesn't cut it. And you know,
- 0:33Speaker 2: I just felt like we needed to be more focused,
- 0:37Speaker 2: more sharp in what we were doing and playing our game.
- 0:39Speaker 2: I didn't think we played fast enough.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Both you and Vince done commenting on it, You would
- 0:44Speaker 1: have liked the team to play a little bit more north,
- 0:46Speaker 1: a little bit more offensive pace last night. Outside of that,
- 0:49Speaker 1: what are some of the other areas you felt the
- 0:51Speaker 1: team could improve on and how do you make those
- 0:52Speaker 1: adjustments here for tonight?
- 0:54Speaker 2: Well, I thought we were very committed in our zone,
- 0:58Speaker 2: and we needed to be because we spend a lot
- 1:01Speaker 2: of time there, you know, spend more time there than
- 1:04Speaker 2: we have recently. So let's give our guys credit for
- 1:09Speaker 2: you know, blocking shots, protecting the inside. Our goaltender played
- 1:13Speaker 2: another great game when we needed him too, you know.
- 1:17Speaker 2: But if if you know, if there's one thing that
- 1:20Speaker 2: we need to do, we need to spend less time
- 1:21Speaker 2: in our zone, which means we need to close quicker,
- 1:24Speaker 2: we need to get bucks back quicker, and we need
- 1:26Speaker 2: to exit our zone quicker. That will help with our
- 1:28Speaker 2: offensive game because a lot of times, when you spend
- 1:30Speaker 2: too much time in your zone, you're just getting the
- 1:32Speaker 2: puck out, you're changing, and then they're coming right back
- 1:34Speaker 2: at you, and it just becomes a vicious cycle.
- 1:39Speaker 1: McCann, right and Katon have been playing some really good
- 1:41Speaker 1: hockey as of way. They've gotten some good opportunities. What
- 1:43Speaker 1: have you liked about that trio?
- 1:46Speaker 2: Well, I like their speed, I like their offensive ability.
- 1:49Speaker 2: I'm you know, I'm watching Jared mccannon play hockey here
- 1:53Speaker 2: more and more, you know, and just really growing an
- 1:57Speaker 2: appreciation for his game and the intelligen just as he
- 2:00Speaker 2: has he continues to help those guys. But those guys
- 2:05Speaker 2: are also coming along, so you know, they're creating some
- 2:09Speaker 2: opportunities that we're going to need their legs tonight.
- 2:11Speaker 1: You mentioned this morning that it sounds like Montour could
- 2:14Speaker 1: be a game time decision here tonight what have you
- 2:16Speaker 1: missed with him out of the lineup in the event
- 2:19Speaker 1: that he does go in, And what are you looking
- 2:21Speaker 1: for in terms of the energy in this part that
- 2:22Speaker 1: he can bring.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Well, I think that you know, he can bring certainly
- 2:26Speaker 2: bring an element of skating, transporting, moving pucks. Obviously he
- 2:32Speaker 2: jumps into the play. He creates another dynamic of offense
- 2:34Speaker 2: for us. You know, from a defensive standpoint, we're looking
- 2:38Speaker 2: for him to be solid defensively as well.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Last time these two teams met in Seattle, you picked
- 2:42Speaker 1: up the win over Boston in a game and saw
- 2:44Speaker 1: Berkeley cat and get his first two goals in the
- 2:46Speaker 1: NHL playing them so quickly since that last meeting, what
- 2:50Speaker 1: can you draw on from that game to help with
- 2:52Speaker 1: tonight's contest And what do you feel the Bruins provide
- 2:56Speaker 1: in terms of a challenge for Seattle.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Well, they're very good, really, they're very good defensively. You know,
- 3:02Speaker 2: we scored seven goals against him when we're capitalizing our opportunities,
- 3:05Speaker 2: and you know, I don't think that's going to be
- 3:08Speaker 2: the same thing here tonight. They've given up nine goals
- 3:11Speaker 2: in the seven games other than the one we played them,
- 3:15Speaker 2: So they're six, one and one in their last eight.
- 3:17Speaker 2: They've got two shutouts in a row. You know, they've
- 3:19Speaker 2: given up nine goals in seven games. They're playing well.
- 3:24Speaker 2: You know, we've got to prepare for a game of
- 3:27Speaker 2: patients because they're very patient through the neutral zone. They
- 3:31Speaker 2: looked at transition and attacked and they've got again, for me,
- 3:36Speaker 2: a player that is a dynamic hockey player that's one
- 3:38Speaker 2: of the best in the league.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Astronak.
- 3:41Speaker 2: He proved that in Seattle, you know, with a couple
- 3:45Speaker 2: of goals, and we've got to make sure that we
- 3:47Speaker 2: deal with him and take care of him as best
- 3:48Speaker 2: we've possibly can.
- 3:50Speaker 1: You've coached szadane O Chara, You've coached against sadane O Chara.
- 3:53Speaker 1: This morning you said he's probably one of your favorite
- 3:55Speaker 1: hockey players you've ever coached. And tonight he gets his
- 3:58Speaker 1: number retired into the rafters. The player that he is,
- 4:01Speaker 1: his career, his longevity, what has made himself special and
- 4:04Speaker 1: what about him did you like and some of those
- 4:06Speaker 1: fond memories that you had about.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Jarna, Well, he just does everything right on a daily basis,
- 4:12Speaker 2: super coachable. This guy's you know, when I had him,
- 4:15Speaker 2: I think he was thirty eight years old or whatever,
- 4:18Speaker 2: and you know, always willing to learn, you know, wanted
- 4:22Speaker 2: to get better every day. That's the way he operated.
- 4:25Speaker 2: He practiced hard, and he made players.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Around him better every day.
- 4:31Speaker 2: You know, just a true leader and probably for me,
- 4:36Speaker 2: one of the most disciplined individuals, not just hockey players,
- 4:40Speaker 2: but one of the most disciplined individuals that I've ever met.
- 4:43Speaker 2: You know, obviously he's gone from playing into marathon marathon
- 4:48Speaker 2: the guy is. He's ultra competitive, but just a terrific
- 4:52Speaker 2: human being in a terrific teammate.
- 4:54Speaker 1: It's awesome.
