- 2:07Speaker 1: In yeah, now, before we get into our enlightened recap,
- 2:14Speaker 1: welcome to platfil b. Just I do have to ask you.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Did you have any takeaways?
- 2:19Speaker 2: Yeah? Uh Lydia and Zach suck donkey ball like period
- 2:24Speaker 2: suck at the end of story, so self righteous, haughty. Yeah,
- 2:30Speaker 2: I'm like, fuck y'all.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Yeah, unless we're being fed a line, unless production is
- 2:37Speaker 1: just trying to frame it a certain way, I don't
- 2:40Speaker 1: know either. We'll talk about it when we get there.
- 2:42Speaker 1: My takeaway is like I'm just gonna warn you, especially
- 2:47Speaker 1: all of you who are like hyper triggered by anything
- 2:51Speaker 1: plathfll like myself, but I had so much sympathy for
- 2:57Speaker 1: Kim Plath me too in this episode and realize that
- 3:01Speaker 1: she's kind of been behind the scenes and like figuring
- 3:05Speaker 1: out storylines and making sure the family talks about specific things.
- 3:09Speaker 1: It's interesting to me, Beatrice that she is deciding to
- 3:13Speaker 1: have this be one of her storylines. Yeah, it's either
- 3:16Speaker 1: because she's trying to create riveting television for the rest
- 3:20Speaker 1: of us, and or like she feels it in her
- 3:24Speaker 1: soul that it's time to put this out there because
- 3:28Speaker 1: it has been discussed before, Joshua, what has happened everything
- 3:31Speaker 1: in the family, it's been discussed before. She's been very
- 3:34Speaker 1: tight lipped, but maybe now she's feeling ready to articulate
- 3:39Speaker 1: a little bit of Yeah, she's feeling around it, and
- 3:42Speaker 1: just as she did, I felt her me too, as
- 3:44Speaker 1: a human, as a mom. I didn't think that it
- 3:47Speaker 1: was fake. And so I just want to warn you,
- 3:49Speaker 1: I'm going to have some compassion and sympathy for Complath
- 3:52Speaker 1: in this episode. I mean, I've still got eyes though
- 3:55Speaker 1: I understand a lot of it is dysfunctional. But that's
- 3:58Speaker 1: what I'm going to be bringing to this rec.
- 4:00Speaker 2: App fair, Okay, I agree.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Well, without further a Joe, let's get into the recap
- 4:06Speaker 1: of Welcome to Plathfell Season eight, eight, episode ten in tutututute.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Where the rubber meets the road. Okay, don't know what
- 4:15Speaker 2: that means?
- 4:16Speaker 1: Well, whatever, I think it's time to get serious.
- 4:18Speaker 2: I guess.
- 4:18Speaker 1: I think that's what that means. I guess.
- 4:21Speaker 2: So we start the episode at Barry's house because he's
- 4:24Speaker 2: getting ready to go on a blind date. Yeah, and
- 4:27Speaker 2: it's kind of funny. He's kind of a total goofball
- 4:30Speaker 2: and he is talking about how he's a little bit
- 4:33Speaker 2: nervous because he hasn't been dating in over twenty seven years.
- 4:37Speaker 2: The last time he did was Kim Blath, so it's
- 4:40Speaker 2: kind of a big deal. And he's talking about like
- 4:43Speaker 2: what he looks for in a woman. He loves a
- 4:46Speaker 2: biblical mystery, whatever that means. And he's like, you know
- 4:50Speaker 2: how many women have read the Book of Enoch? Probably zero?
- 4:54Speaker 2: You're Barry Plath's.
- 4:56Speaker 1: The Book of Enoch in this bookshelf right over here.
- 5:00Speaker 2: That's so funny.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Yeah, and I just ordered a t shirt stop with
- 5:08Speaker 1: Sasquatch playing praying the Rosary.
- 5:11Speaker 2: That's awesome.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I love it. So I'm a believer.
- 5:15Speaker 2: You're totally yeah, Barry Plath Stream Girl. And then Barry
- 5:20Speaker 2: has this like little dorky segment where the producers are
- 5:23Speaker 2: asking him what his best pickup lines are, and you
- 5:26Speaker 2: can tell Barry has been laughing so hard that he's
- 5:29Speaker 2: got tears in his eyes, and so he's giving these
- 5:31Speaker 2: dumb ass pickup lines like oh, your hair's flowing, and
- 5:35Speaker 2: then he does his daffy duck impression and I don't know,
- 5:38Speaker 2: I know you probably were cringing, but I was laughing.
- 5:40Speaker 2: I thought it was adorable. I think he's such a goofball.
- 5:44Speaker 2: I know some people are really weirded out by him,
- 5:46Speaker 2: but I'm just like, he's just a bald c three
- 5:49Speaker 2: po like it's fine humor. And then Barry also talks
- 5:53Speaker 2: about like what he would do in terms of physical
- 5:57Speaker 2: intimacy now that he's a bachelor, and he says that
- 6:01Speaker 2: him and Kim actually didn't kiss until they were married,
- 6:04Speaker 2: but now you know, he's loosened up the rules and
- 6:07Speaker 2: he doesn't matter a little smooch in. But he's not
- 6:10Speaker 2: gonna smooch on the first date. That's his hard line,
- 6:13Speaker 2: I guess. And he's also knuck of fuck until he
- 6:16Speaker 2: gets married again.
- 6:17Speaker 1: That's just a wowser to me.
- 6:19Speaker 2: That's crazy, especially at his big age.
- 6:21Speaker 1: I'm like, why, you're fifty seven years old, and I
- 6:24Speaker 1: understand honoring the sanctity of marriage, and I also understand
- 6:27Speaker 1: that you weren't the one to totally detonate your relationship.
- 6:31Speaker 1: That was kim Plath, and in your own way, you
- 6:33Speaker 1: were honoring your partnership with her. But like, Yollo, don't
- 6:38Speaker 1: you want to sample the wearers, sample the goods before
- 6:43Speaker 1: you lock it down again? No?
- 6:44Speaker 2: For real? And like, I don't know, you're older. It's like,
- 6:48Speaker 2: wouldn't you want to make sure it works well?
- 6:51Speaker 1: Make hay while the sun is shining or whatever that's saying, Yes,
- 6:54Speaker 1: I do it while you can because you're quickly approaching
- 6:59Speaker 1: the event of complete and total impotence. So like, get
- 7:05Speaker 1: out there and get it, hud.
- 7:06Speaker 2: No for real, Yola, It's fine. Yeah, I'm sure God's
- 7:09Speaker 2: gonna understand.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Yet God don't care at all.
- 7:13Speaker 2: So anyway, he's picking out his outfit. He's gonna go
- 7:16Speaker 2: with a T shirt that shows off his big old muscles.
- 7:18Speaker 1: He looked kind of good.
- 7:20Speaker 2: I know, he's got like a nice build on my okay,
- 7:24Speaker 2: mister plaith Daddy. And so then we shift gears and
- 7:28Speaker 2: we go back to the car ride home from Wisconsin.
- 7:32Speaker 2: We have Kim and Lydia still in the car and
- 7:35Speaker 2: we're continuing their discussion from last week, where Kim tells
- 7:39Speaker 2: Lydia that she heard her and Zach are telling people
- 7:44Speaker 2: how to live their lives and what music to listen
- 7:47Speaker 2: to and not to drink alcohol, and what games to
- 7:51Speaker 2: play and what TV shows to watch that will honor God.
- 7:55Speaker 2: And Kim is just, you know, kind of lightly confronting
- 7:59Speaker 2: Lydia about this. She does tell Lydia like, you know,
- 8:01Speaker 2: I'm not trying to start anything. People are calling me
- 8:05Speaker 2: up and telling me about this, so I'm just going
- 8:07Speaker 2: to address it with you. And in the car, Lydia
- 8:10Speaker 2: totally tries to deny this and be like, no, wasn't
- 8:15Speaker 2: like that. But then on the couch, like when she's
- 8:18Speaker 2: talking to the camera, she does admit to how when
- 8:22Speaker 2: they were in Montana, Mariah had a bunch of alcohol
- 8:26Speaker 2: in front of Amber, who is a minor and that's inappropriate.
- 8:30Speaker 2: And then they were playing a card game that was
- 8:32Speaker 2: inappropriate that Lydia would never be comfortable playing, and when
- 8:37Speaker 2: they were watching TV, there was an episode of something
- 8:40Speaker 2: that had more f bombs in it than Lydia hears
- 8:42Speaker 2: at work every day, and she just felt very like
- 8:46Speaker 2: offended and uncomfortable by that because she didn't feel like
- 8:49Speaker 2: they considered her feelings or Zach's feelings, and that was
- 8:54Speaker 2: why she felt justified to confront them about that.
- 8:58Speaker 1: But it wasn't her that fronted it was Zach.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Yep.
- 9:02Speaker 1: It's one thing. If my brother tells me I'm acting
- 9:05Speaker 1: a fool, sure maybe I should do something a little
- 9:08Speaker 1: bit differently because I grew up with that dude. But
- 9:11Speaker 1: to have your freshly wed husband of six months sit
- 9:15Speaker 1: down your sisters and start lecturing them about what they
- 9:19Speaker 1: should watch and consume, et cetera, is wild. And at
- 9:25Speaker 1: the same time, Kim, this is the child that you raised,
- 9:29Speaker 1: and she's parroting the system that you indoctrinated her into.
- 9:35Speaker 1: The decisions and the choices and the moral superiority she's
- 9:39Speaker 1: now demonstrating come entirely from you and from Barry. And
- 9:44Speaker 1: while yes, Kim, you've obviously changed the way that you
- 9:48Speaker 1: live your life like you've got a different perspective. You're
- 9:51Speaker 1: now a drunken adulteresss living with a one eyed racist
- 9:54Speaker 1: in your farmhouse. Like, yes, that's all true, But at
- 9:57Speaker 1: the same time, like, you can't judge Lydia for judging
- 10:00Speaker 1: others when you raised her to judge.
- 10:02Speaker 2: People, right, Yeah, And I will say I did love that.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Kim actually expressed this, like later in the episode, she
- 10:10Speaker 2: made a comment about how she sees so much of herself,
- 10:14Speaker 2: her younger self in Lydia because she was definitely like
- 10:17Speaker 2: this and she was judging other people and she was
- 10:20Speaker 2: very like heavy in their religion. And now it's you know,
- 10:24Speaker 2: she talks to God as a friend, and now she's
- 10:27Speaker 2: just like it's fine, I've mellowed out, I've aged a
- 10:30Speaker 2: little bit, like I've chilled you know. So I think
- 10:34Speaker 2: Kim is in a weird spot because she did raise
- 10:37Speaker 2: Lydia to be this way and then she blew the
- 10:40Speaker 2: family up, and she's definitely learned her lessons and some
- 10:45Speaker 2: of her lessons and she's chilled out with age in
- 10:48Speaker 2: terms of like the religious structure and stuff like that.
- 10:50Speaker 2: But like, how do you confront that with your kid
- 10:54Speaker 2: who's now married to an ultra religious judgmental now with
- 11:01Speaker 2: a baby doll mouth, Like, how do you confront that?
- 11:04Speaker 2: You know, you can't really she doesn't really have a
- 11:07Speaker 2: place to say to day now at this point, and
- 11:09Speaker 2: so I think Kim is kind of in a weird spot,
- 11:12Speaker 2: you know. I think, like I understand the family judging
- 11:17Speaker 2: Lydia harshly for this, because it's like, why are you
- 11:19Speaker 2: letting your husband lecture everybody else in the family, like
- 11:23Speaker 2: the audacity. It's not like Zach has been married in
- 11:26Speaker 2: this family for ten years and like has more of
- 11:29Speaker 2: a place in the family as a as an established member.
- 11:33Speaker 2: He's literally been there for like five days, right, Like
- 11:35Speaker 2: what the hell?
- 11:36Speaker 1: Honestly, I think the only person who could check Lydia
- 11:40Speaker 1: in this moment because she does need to be checked. Yes,
- 11:43Speaker 1: Like that attitude is wrong. It's also anti Christ, no
- 11:47Speaker 1: matter what you have to say, especially those people out there,
- 11:49Speaker 1: was like, well, where's supposed to judge the character? Okay,
- 11:52Speaker 1: it's Antichrist though Christ said it, and Isaac actually quotes
- 11:55Speaker 1: the scripture that I love to quote as well. But like,
- 11:58Speaker 1: the person who could check Lydia is Barry. Yeah, because
- 12:01Speaker 1: Lydia has a lot of love and affection and respect
- 12:04Speaker 1: for her father, who I also think she feels Kim
- 12:10Speaker 1: unfairly destroyed. I agree, So she loves Barry and Barry
- 12:13Speaker 1: is also a Christian and he holds his values firm.
- 12:16Speaker 1: But if Barry was the one who said, you know what, Liddy,
- 12:18Speaker 1: you shouldn't be doing this. You shouldn't be saying this
- 12:21Speaker 1: to your sister, you shouldn't allow your husband to be
- 12:24Speaker 1: saying these things to your family. I think that would
- 12:27Speaker 1: go a long way with her totally. But I don't
- 12:29Speaker 1: think Barry's going to because later in this episode, when
- 12:31Speaker 1: they're talking about Ethan Kim and Barry, Barry's like, yeah,
- 12:34Speaker 1: I really don't know how to help him or what
- 12:36Speaker 1: to do.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Then find the resources, Barry, No, yeah, somebody go to
- 12:40Speaker 3: therapy yourself, Like what can you do to be proactive
- 12:43Speaker 3: to help your tomato faced son and your dysfunctional children.
- 12:47Speaker 3: It's like he's just given up.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Honestly, Barry would have so much power over the kids, Yes,
- 12:53Speaker 2: if he actually established himself as the patriarch, as the father,
- 12:56Speaker 2: because I do think that the kids were raised to
- 13:00Speaker 2: respect that. But Barry really is and I've said this before.
- 13:03Speaker 2: He's such a fucking passive parent, Like he literally just
- 13:06Speaker 2: takes a backseat to fucking everything. He would rather be
- 13:10Speaker 2: the kind, loving parent, the Disney dad, the Disney dad
- 13:14Speaker 2: in the background, never punishing them, never giving them any
- 13:18Speaker 2: kind of criticism, and just being there. Then actually being
- 13:23Speaker 2: a role model and a parental figure and a figure
- 13:27Speaker 2: that can guide them in a good, healthy direction. Like
- 13:30Speaker 2: he's just sitting there back.
- 13:31Speaker 1: There working and he's letting Kim take the majority of
- 13:36Speaker 1: the heat for all the mistakes that they both made, right.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Which is messed up, it is, honestly. So we end
- 13:42Speaker 2: this segment with Kim and Lydia where Lydia says to
- 13:45Speaker 2: the camera, you know, she just feels really misunderstood and
- 13:49Speaker 2: she doesn't feel like her family considers her, you know.
- 13:52Speaker 2: And that's why she brought up the things in Montana
- 13:54Speaker 2: that bothered her, and that's why Zach talked about it,
- 13:57Speaker 2: because you know, they just don't feel missed, they just
- 13:58Speaker 2: don't feel understood. And I'm just like, girl, get out
- 14:02Speaker 2: of here. I have so much shit to say it
- 14:04Speaker 2: about that, But we'll get to it when we get
- 14:05Speaker 2: to the conversation with Isaac and Ethan and Kim. Later
- 14:09Speaker 2: in the episode, we go back over to Florida with
- 14:13Speaker 2: Barry going on as blind date. He meets up with
- 14:16Speaker 2: this petite blonde woman who's kidny and she's forty six?
- 14:23Speaker 1: Is she?
- 14:23Speaker 2: She says, she's forty six. I think she's I thought
- 14:26Speaker 2: she looked fine. Oh I'm not gonna.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Be not a question about whether she looks fine or not.
- 14:33Speaker 1: She looks great, but forty six.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Are we age shaming? Now?
- 14:38Speaker 1: We are because all of Reddit is doing it as well.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Nobody believes her. But I just feel like, just own
- 14:44Speaker 1: your age. Honey. You're definitely in your fifties. But like,
- 14:46Speaker 1: who am I to talk? Yeah, but like when I
- 14:49Speaker 1: was at age, I was hot. Oh I was really,
- 14:52Speaker 1: I really was so hot. I'm just like, honey, it's
- 14:54Speaker 1: okay to be in your fifties.
- 14:55Speaker 2: I thought she looked pretty, Okay, all right, I thought
- 14:58Speaker 2: she looked pretty.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I'm just saying she didn't look forty six because I
- 15:01Speaker 1: remember forty six and all that I had going on
- 15:04Speaker 1: to Nah, God, I do like it was your look.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Everybody ages stifferently, and it's all stopped from everyone's beautiful.
- 15:11Speaker 1: This is the way they are.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Okay, So anyway, she's forty six, she says, and she's blonde, petit,
- 15:19Speaker 2: and Barry says she's a nice or says she's a
- 15:23Speaker 2: pretty little thing, something like that, something like that. Barry
- 15:26Speaker 2: is obviously physically attracted to her, and he's excited about
- 15:30Speaker 2: this state, and it seems like this chick, her name's Jonah,
- 15:34Speaker 2: is also attracted to Barry shockingly, which I kind of
- 15:38Speaker 2: loved it. I was like, oh, that's kind of cute.
- 15:40Speaker 2: They're totally awkward. Barry is such an awkward goober. I mean,
- 15:44Speaker 2: he's such a goober. And I didn't realize he was
- 15:47Speaker 2: fifty seven.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought he.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Was younger for some reason. So I'm like, hey, okay,
- 15:51Speaker 2: he's my age.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Yeah I'm fifty eight and I just turned fifty eight,
- 15:58Speaker 1: but like he's literally my age. Yeah, well thank you.
- 16:00Speaker 1: But I mean, yeah, he's actually like Cody Brown. Yeah,
- 16:03Speaker 1: he's actually working out and he's trying to be physically fit,
- 16:06Speaker 1: and I think it shows.
- 16:07Speaker 2: It looks good on him totally, and Jonah seems totally
- 16:11Speaker 2: into him. They're maintaining eye contact the whole time, and
- 16:15Speaker 2: she's given him a little bedroom.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Mind little gaga.
- 16:18Speaker 2: She's like I like, your daddy muscles. Do you lift?
- 16:21Speaker 2: Do you work out? And Barry's like, yeah, I do.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Do you work out? I go to the gym five
- 16:26Speaker 2: times a week And Barry's instantly hard and he's like,
- 16:28Speaker 2: oh my god, it's.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Got that kind of time to go five times a
- 16:31Speaker 1: week with a job. I know it.
- 16:34Speaker 2: She's a realtor, she's a mom of four kids. Yeah,
- 16:37Speaker 2: I'm like, okay. Barry's totally into her, and they have
- 16:40Speaker 2: like a nice conversation or whatever. They seem to hit
- 16:43Speaker 2: it off. You know, he talks about his kids because
- 16:47Speaker 2: Jonah did her research before coming on the date, so
- 16:50Speaker 2: she knows about them stuff. And she's like, how many
- 16:52Speaker 2: kids do you have? As if I don't know, and
- 16:55Speaker 2: Barry says something weird. He's like, well, I have a
- 16:57Speaker 2: lot of kids, but it's not in the double digits,
- 17:00Speaker 2: but it's right there before double digits. So I've got
- 17:03Speaker 2: nine kids.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Okay. That disturbed me, right, because Joshua was and is
- 17:10Speaker 1: your child exactly, So why wouldn't you say I have
- 17:13Speaker 1: ten kids? One of them passed away, but ten kids.
- 17:17Speaker 2: I don't know. I was trying to give him the
- 17:18Speaker 2: benefit of the doubt here because I'm like, maybe this
- 17:20Speaker 2: is just something that they've all just rehearsed throughout the
- 17:25Speaker 2: years of maybe this is how Kim wanted to cope.
- 17:29Speaker 1: With everything, which it is not to have to talk
- 17:31Speaker 1: about it.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Exactly, to just be like, we have nine kids and
- 17:35Speaker 2: that's shitty obviously, but like you know, given the tragic
- 17:39Speaker 2: circumstances and stuff. I was just thinking like maybe that's
- 17:41Speaker 2: how they maybe that's how they kind of address it
- 17:44Speaker 2: talk about it. But anyway, So Jonah, she's in a
- 17:48Speaker 2: Barry Berry's into Jonah. She he says that she's her type,
- 17:52Speaker 2: and she asks him, you know, what are you looking
- 17:54Speaker 2: for in a woman? He's like someone adventurous and someone
- 17:57Speaker 2: who likes to travel and who's fun and outgoing. And
- 18:01Speaker 2: she's like, oh, like me eh and he's like yeah.
- 18:05Speaker 2: And then he asks her out on another date, and
- 18:08Speaker 2: she's hoping that he'll kiss her. He doesn't. He gives
- 18:11Speaker 2: her a nice long hug. He knows that she would
- 18:14Speaker 2: be into making out with him, but he's like, I
- 18:16Speaker 2: gotta save myself, stop it. The next date, he's like,
- 18:19Speaker 2: I want the producers to leave so that way I
- 18:21Speaker 2: can take her out to dinner and make out. With
- 18:24Speaker 2: her or something, and so it looks like they're gonna
- 18:26Speaker 2: have another date.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll see how far this goes.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Yes, I would love for Barry to have a new girlfriend,
- 18:36Speaker 2: and I would love for Kim to be jealous about it.
- 18:38Speaker 1: I would love it if she's a hot, little chippy,
- 18:40Speaker 1: athletic and fun.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Totally and look like we're gonna give Kim a lot
- 18:44Speaker 2: of grace in this episode. But I was watching this
- 18:47Speaker 2: date with Barry thinking Kim's gonna be so mad. It's
- 18:52Speaker 2: gonna be so mad watching this bad.
- 18:53Speaker 1: I think she cares, yeah Barry and who he's dating,
- 18:57Speaker 1: If she's so over him.
- 18:59Speaker 2: I don't think so. I think there's somewhere deep down
- 19:01Speaker 2: where she's gonna be bitter because he keeps talking about
- 19:05Speaker 2: wanting petite.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Yes fit that I think is gonna pay her off.
- 19:09Speaker 1: But I don't think she's like coming from a jealous
- 19:11Speaker 1: place or like not wanting him to be with somebody else.
- 19:14Speaker 1: I don't think she necessarily cares about that.
- 19:17Speaker 2: I wonder if she's gonna be bitter though, if he
- 19:19Speaker 2: ends up with somebody attractive and young, because she's gonna
- 19:23Speaker 2: be like, what the fuck I left you? Though? You
- 19:26Speaker 2: know what I mean. It's kind of like that idea
- 19:28Speaker 2: of like, I left you, so you're supposed to be unhappy.
- 19:31Speaker 1: And then what if Ken actually leave? Oh my god,
- 19:34Speaker 1: because she doesn't lose one hundred pounds or whatever he
- 19:36Speaker 1: wants her to do, takes his jukebox and he goes
- 19:40Speaker 1: and lives somewhere else, and then Kim, what are you
- 19:43Speaker 1: gonna do?
- 19:44Speaker 2: Ken goes and takes his juke bus to the assisted
- 19:47Speaker 2: living facility. It's eighties rock night, guys, let's party, Let's
- 19:54Speaker 2: play shuffleboard and be racist together. God, oh my god,
- 20:01Speaker 2: be terrible. So anyway, after the date, then we have
- 20:05Speaker 2: Barry going over to the farmhouse to talk with Kim,
- 20:10Speaker 2: and he's also bringing back the juicer, okay, which is
- 20:14Speaker 2: so stupid, and they kind of laugh about it, almost
- 20:17Speaker 2: like this was a dumb storyline, like why were we
- 20:20Speaker 2: even talking about the juicer?
- 20:22Speaker 1: Right?
- 20:22Speaker 2: But he goes over there to talk with Kim about
- 20:25Speaker 2: her trip to Wisconsin, like that's pretty much the purpose
- 20:28Speaker 2: of it. And he gets there and her house is
- 20:30Speaker 2: a fucking mess.
- 20:32Speaker 1: It really was, Beatrice. I was kind of shocked, Yeah,
- 20:36Speaker 1: what's going on? And this I think is further evidence
- 20:40Speaker 1: that Kim at this time in her life might actually
- 20:43Speaker 1: be falling apart a little bit. Yeah, but because she
- 20:46Speaker 1: ran like a much tighter ship before in the farmhouse,
- 20:51Speaker 1: and so it's either her falling apart or this is
- 20:53Speaker 1: how Ken lives and like this is just what they do.
- 20:55Speaker 1: But like, clean your shit up. You've got three little
- 20:58Speaker 1: girls that live there.
- 20:59Speaker 2: I know.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Oh, I was alarmed.
- 21:01Speaker 2: It was a mess, and I don't know, people have
- 21:03Speaker 2: made some inappropriate comments on Reddit about Kim and her
- 21:07Speaker 2: drinking habits and stuff, and I was just like looking
- 21:09Speaker 2: at all this and I'm like, this is kind of
- 21:11Speaker 2: screaming a little bit, like you're an alcoholic and like
- 21:13Speaker 2: you're just like lazy and just drinking all day. And
- 21:16Speaker 2: again that is further evidence of her life falling apart
- 21:19Speaker 2: and her breaking a bit, because you know, you can
- 21:23Speaker 2: only bottle up all of that trauma and all of
- 21:26Speaker 2: that bullshit for so long. Yeah.
- 21:27Speaker 1: But if I know a camera crew is going to
- 21:31Speaker 1: be inside of my house when I tell you, I'm
- 21:33Speaker 1: going to be furiously cleaning for an entire week before
- 21:37Speaker 1: they get their deep cleaning, Everything's going to be exactly
- 21:40Speaker 1: where it's supposed to be. Like, I can't fathom a
- 21:42Speaker 1: world where I would let a camera crew pick up
- 21:46Speaker 1: such a mess. It's not horder levels, but it's definitely
- 21:49Speaker 1: like I don't give a shit level totally friendliness.
- 21:53Speaker 2: And I'm wondering if it is Ken influenced. Yeah, because
- 21:56Speaker 2: Kim wasn't a dirty little grub even when she divorced
- 22:01Speaker 2: Barry and was in her ballet studio, like, it was
- 22:03Speaker 2: nice and it was clean. Yeah, but maybe it's all
- 22:06Speaker 2: Ken's bullshit because he's an old Yeah.
- 22:08Speaker 1: But when we went to his house in the last
- 22:11Speaker 1: season when she had her boat and she'd go over
- 22:13Speaker 1: to his house to get drunken fuck like, it seemed
- 22:16Speaker 1: to be clean and fairly minimal in terms of decoration.
- 22:21Speaker 1: So like, I just don't know where this is coming from,
- 22:23Speaker 1: but it looked abysmal.
- 22:25Speaker 2: It's pretty concerning, and honestly, like, I wonder what Barry
- 22:27Speaker 2: thinks about all of it. But maybe he's just like.
- 22:30Speaker 1: I dodged a bullet glad to be.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Rid of her. You know, he's just got back from
- 22:34Speaker 2: his date with Jonah, so he's just like whatever, I
- 22:38Speaker 2: don't care, here's your juicer back. But when they sit
- 22:41Speaker 2: down to talk, Kim tells him about her trip to Wisconsin.
- 22:46Speaker 2: She talks about Ethan first, and you know, she asks Perry, like,
- 22:50Speaker 2: do you know how Ethan and Teagan broke up? And
- 22:52Speaker 2: of course Barry's like no, because I'm an absent father,
- 22:55Speaker 2: and she tells him what happened. We all know Tea
- 23:00Speaker 2: went to surprise Eathan for his birthday, drove five hours
- 23:03Speaker 2: or whatever to Minnesota. She shows up. Something happened where
- 23:09Speaker 2: Ethan got triggered and saw Olivia and Teagan, and then
- 23:13Speaker 2: he sped off in his old man car, turned off
- 23:15Speaker 2: his phone, and we hear from Kim he was gone
- 23:18Speaker 2: for twelve hours, twelve hour, twelve hours with no ability
- 23:23Speaker 2: to contact him. Phone off, phone off, and apparently Teagan
- 23:27Speaker 2: was driving around looking for him and couldn't find him. Yeah,
- 23:31Speaker 2: and she spent several hours trying to find him, and
- 23:33Speaker 2: then ultimately was like, Okay, I guess I'm gonna go
- 23:36Speaker 2: back to Wisconsin. So she drove all the way back
- 23:39Speaker 2: and then called him the next day to break up
- 23:40Speaker 2: with him. That was crazy, insane.
- 23:44Speaker 1: I thought I was just picturing Ethan maybe driving off
- 23:47Speaker 1: for a couple of hours. Yeah, which is already kind
- 23:50Speaker 1: of awkward because Teagan doesn't necessarily know your grandparents, so
- 23:53Speaker 1: she's at your grandparents' farm and what she's supposed to do.
- 23:56Speaker 1: But twelve hours, that's great, Like did she have to
- 23:59Speaker 1: have dinner with that? And then did she sleep there
- 24:01Speaker 1: that night? Just trying to text you and follow your
- 24:04Speaker 1: location or whatever, Like that's just insanity to me, Ethan,
- 24:09Speaker 1: you deserve everything that you get. Yeah, when Teagan ultimately
- 24:13Speaker 1: dumps your ass, which we all know that she does,
- 24:15Speaker 1: I think because she's already with somebody else. Yeah, according
- 24:18Speaker 1: to Instagram, and you deserve it. You're a bad, bad partner.
- 24:21Speaker 2: Yeah, totally, Like what the fuck is wrong with you? Like,
- 24:23Speaker 2: and it's one thing to be triggered, and you know,
- 24:26Speaker 2: nobody knows how to handle their triggers perfectly. Like obviously
- 24:31Speaker 2: it takes a long time to be able to recognize
- 24:33Speaker 2: your triggers and learn how to react to them properly
- 24:36Speaker 2: where you're not being a toxic asshole. But like this
- 24:40Speaker 2: is so extreme to me for him to be so
- 24:43Speaker 2: triggered that he drives off, Yeah for twelve hours, Like
- 24:47Speaker 2: what the fuck did Tea can do to make you sew?
- 24:50Speaker 1: Nothing triggered? Nothing, just a little bit of accountability, Like
- 24:54Speaker 1: could you please just tell me what's going on. That's
- 24:57Speaker 1: all she did was just ask him what is when
- 25:00Speaker 1: her world was doing in the moment, and that was
- 25:02Speaker 1: so triggering he left for twelve hours. Crazy.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Yeah, And so when Kim's telling Barry this story, Barry's
- 25:09Speaker 2: obviously shocked and he's like, wow, Ethan's got some shit
- 25:12Speaker 2: that he's got to deal with. Still, he needs to heal.
- 25:15Speaker 2: And then Kim is like, yeah, he also needs to
- 25:18Speaker 2: learn basic communications bills, like what the fuck is wrong
- 25:21Speaker 2: with me?
- 25:21Speaker 3: Right?
- 25:22Speaker 2: And then this kind of leads into a conversation with
- 25:24Speaker 2: Kim and Barry where she says, you know, you and
- 25:27Speaker 2: I were not the best communicators and we kind of
- 25:30Speaker 2: taught our kids this. But ultimately Kim says, I'm the
- 25:33Speaker 2: one that gets blamed for it.
- 25:34Speaker 1: All.
- 25:35Speaker 2: You don't get blame for it, but like I'm taking
- 25:37Speaker 2: the brunt of it. And Barry of course is like, yeah, well.
- 25:42Speaker 1: He does get on camera though, doesn't he and he
- 25:45Speaker 1: does defend her a little bit. Was it during that
- 25:47Speaker 1: or was it.
- 25:48Speaker 2: It was about Joshua Joshua?
- 25:49Speaker 1: Okay?
- 25:50Speaker 2: Yeah, So after this, then Kim tells Barry about her
- 25:54Speaker 2: trip back home with Lydia and Barry asks her, you know,
- 25:58Speaker 2: were you guys able to talk about things like and
- 26:00Speaker 2: because he's aware of the fact that Lydia and Kim
- 26:02Speaker 2: have a dysfunctional relationship right now, and Kim says, yeah,
- 26:07Speaker 2: you know, I did talk to her about going on
- 26:10Speaker 2: those podcasts where she discussed Joshua and how she blamed me,
- 26:15Speaker 2: mainly for not equipping her with the tools to handle
- 26:20Speaker 2: Joshua's death. And then this is where Barry does defend Kim,
- 26:24Speaker 2: and he says something like, she was in a storm
- 26:27Speaker 2: that she couldn't get out of and she didn't know
- 26:29Speaker 2: how to deal with it, right, I mean, it's a
- 26:32Speaker 2: really difficult thing. And then Barry also says something like,
- 26:35Speaker 2: you know, Lydia was only four years old, so like,
- 26:38Speaker 2: how much can you really talk to a four year
- 26:41Speaker 2: old about a concept as big as death, Like you
- 26:45Speaker 2: can really only have so much to talk about it
- 26:47Speaker 2: with them. And you know, I've seen some people be
- 26:50Speaker 2: critical of Barry saying this because four year olds can
- 26:54Speaker 2: still experience extreme trauma, But at the same time, it's
- 26:58Speaker 2: like from a parent, yeah, you can't really have like
- 27:02Speaker 2: an in depth conversation with a four year old about
- 27:06Speaker 2: a traumatic death.
- 27:07Speaker 1: Like this right, And also you kind of want to
- 27:11Speaker 1: be careful. So if you are talking about it, and
- 27:14Speaker 1: I think they probably tried to, like you, you've got
- 27:17Speaker 1: to frame it in a certain way that doesn't further
- 27:19Speaker 1: traumatize a child who actually witnessed what happened. So it's
- 27:24Speaker 1: a fine line that anybody would have to walk, but
- 27:28Speaker 1: especially a couple of sort of emotionally stunted individuals who
- 27:33Speaker 1: are just overly relying on religion to get them through whatever.
- 27:36Speaker 1: Like they're not going to know what to say. They're
- 27:38Speaker 1: just going to be like, well, let's pray, yeah, exactly,
- 27:41Speaker 1: and hopefully there's going to be some sort of a
- 27:43Speaker 1: breakthrough that they can't facilitate because they don't know how.
- 27:46Speaker 1: And Kim was it sounds like kind of catatonic, Yeah,
- 27:51Speaker 1: just not present at all, dissociating, totally, did not know
- 27:55Speaker 1: how to deal with it. And I can absolutely imagine
- 27:58Speaker 1: how terrible it was for her, So like, yeah, she
- 28:00Speaker 1: would have a difficult time sitting down with her littles
- 28:03Speaker 1: and being like, well, this is what happened, this is
- 28:05Speaker 1: how you should feel about it. Let me help you
- 28:07Speaker 1: with She couldn't even talk. She still can't talk. She
- 28:10Speaker 1: still can't verbalize what she saw that day exactly, and
- 28:14Speaker 1: all these years later.
- 28:15Speaker 2: She said that multiple times in this episode. She's like,
- 28:17Speaker 2: I have this play by play of that day that's PTSD,
- 28:22Speaker 2: and she says it replays in her mind all the time,
- 28:26Speaker 2: but she can't verbalize it. She can't talk about it
- 28:28Speaker 2: still to this day. It's been seventeen years, Like she
- 28:32Speaker 2: still cannot talk about that. And that's valid, dude, sure,
- 28:36Speaker 2: Like that's totally valid.
- 28:37Speaker 1: And it doesn't negate that she shouldn't try to of course,
- 28:41Speaker 1: that there's something that's inside of her that she needs
- 28:44Speaker 1: to work through, like, of course, but you also have
- 28:47Speaker 1: to be ready for that, And that's what I was
- 28:50Speaker 1: trying to get at with my takeaway. It feels like
- 28:52Speaker 1: maybe she's ready to do that right now because she's
- 28:55Speaker 1: orchestrating this entire storyline a little bit.
- 28:58Speaker 2: That's kind of what it felt like.
- 28:59Speaker 1: Maybe she wants to talk about it finally.
- 29:01Speaker 2: Yeah, Like maybe Lydia was the catalyst for her to
- 29:03Speaker 2: finally be able to deal with it, because she has
- 29:06Speaker 2: been totally coasting like this entire time, just not dealing
- 29:10Speaker 2: with it, not handling it, just bottling it up, masking
- 29:13Speaker 2: and masking, and I kind of felt like, in this
- 29:17Speaker 2: conversation with Kim and Barry, Kim is low key resentful
- 29:23Speaker 2: of Barry for not being a good communicator along with her,
- 29:28Speaker 2: because she mentioned something about how Barry couldn't even give
- 29:32Speaker 2: Ethan the sex head talk, like she had to be
- 29:35Speaker 2: the one to talk to Ethan about sex before he
- 29:38Speaker 2: got married to Olivia. And we have that little flashback
- 29:41Speaker 2: from like the earlier seasons or whatever with little blonde,
- 29:45Speaker 2: blonde hair, beardless.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Johnny apples so optimistic Ethan.
- 29:50Speaker 2: And he's smiling. I'm like, I haven't seen you smile forever, dude,
- 29:53Speaker 2: You're so depressing and angry now. But yeah, So, like
- 29:57Speaker 2: I think Kim kind of resents Barry for just like
- 30:00Speaker 2: not really being a good communicator, and she gets the
- 30:04Speaker 2: brunt of it from all of her kids and even
- 30:07Speaker 2: from people online, Like, she gets the brunt of a
- 30:09Speaker 2: lot of the blame and stuff, and we've blamed her
- 30:13Speaker 2: for things on this podcast, and I don't know, after
- 30:15Speaker 2: this episode, I was kind of feeling bad too about
- 30:17Speaker 2: some of the things I've said about.
- 30:18Speaker 1: Her because I like repeatedly call out that she was
- 30:21Speaker 1: the one, you know, responsible essentially for this and yeah,
- 30:27Speaker 1: so she's beating herself up more than anybody else could
- 30:30Speaker 1: ever beat her up.
- 30:32Speaker 2: Yep.
- 30:32Speaker 1: And it really hit home with me that for that
- 30:36Speaker 1: year or year and a half, that she was catatonic,
- 30:38Speaker 1: unable to just cope in the most basic of ways.
- 30:42Speaker 1: It was Barrie's duty to stand in the gap for
- 30:45Speaker 1: her and the family. And maybe he did. We don't know,
- 30:49Speaker 1: we weren't watching the show back then. Maybe he did
- 30:51Speaker 1: the very best that he could, but that is what
- 30:53Speaker 1: she needed from him. But my sense is that he
- 30:57Speaker 1: just kept going to work. She had to just click
- 31:00Speaker 1: right back into her pregnancy with Amber. She gives birth
- 31:03Speaker 1: to Amber, Like nobody's really taking care of Kim.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Yeah, my sense is like Barry probably stood up in
- 31:13Speaker 2: a little bit of ways, Like he probably was still
- 31:15Speaker 2: the provider, so he probably was gone at work for
- 31:17Speaker 2: a lot of the time, and Kim was stuck having
- 31:19Speaker 2: to mother all of the kids and stuff, and like
- 31:22Speaker 2: maybe he tried to talk to some of his kids
- 31:24Speaker 2: maybe a little bit, but like he didn't. I don't
- 31:26Speaker 2: strike him as somebody who was nurturing of Kim's feelings
- 31:31Speaker 2: at all. He probably gave her time, tried.
- 31:33Speaker 1: Yeah, he's a robot.
- 31:34Speaker 2: He's a total robot.
- 31:35Speaker 1: He should have gotten her into therapy immediately. When you're
- 31:39Speaker 1: in a cult like that, therapy is going to talk
- 31:42Speaker 1: to the pastor having some misogynistic patriarchal asshole tell you
- 31:46Speaker 1: how to feel.
- 31:47Speaker 2: So and that, like, they were also homeschooling all of
- 31:49Speaker 2: their kids, so Barry probably was like, well, all right,
- 31:52Speaker 2: you're gonna have to still do this, you know what
- 31:54Speaker 2: I mean. So it's just like it's a really terrible situation.
- 31:58Speaker 2: And so then their conversation concludes with Kim bringing up
- 32:02Speaker 2: child support.
- 32:03Speaker 1: I was so surprised and taken aback. I was that
- 32:07Speaker 1: Barry Plath is not paying his child support. He's paying
- 32:10Speaker 1: fifty percent of whatever he's supposed to be paying monthly
- 32:15Speaker 1: for the three girls, and he's not doing it, and
- 32:18Speaker 1: he says, I don't have it, And I guess the
- 32:20Speaker 1: agreement was that he would make up for any arrears
- 32:25Speaker 1: child support and start to make his one hundred percent
- 32:27Speaker 1: payments when he sold his house, which I just saw
- 32:31Speaker 1: like a few weeks ago, that that fucker is still
- 32:35Speaker 1: on the MLS. I think he's asking six hundred some
- 32:38Speaker 1: one thousand dollars for it or whatever.
- 32:41Speaker 3: Whack.
- 32:41Speaker 1: It is kind of whack because it's very dated.
- 32:43Speaker 2: Yeah, but I mean so in the middle of nowhere.
- 32:45Speaker 1: Yeah, but it's a beautiful property as well. But like, yeah,
- 32:47Speaker 1: so he's waiting to sell his house before he pays
- 32:50Speaker 1: her child support, which is weird.
- 32:52Speaker 2: And I'm just wondering how much child support is she
- 32:55Speaker 2: actually wanting. Does he not have the kids for fifty
- 32:58Speaker 2: to fifty also gets the kid's fifty to fifty, so
- 33:01Speaker 2: though he does. I think that's part of their agreement.
- 33:04Speaker 2: And people were on Reddit, We're saying that too. People
- 33:06Speaker 2: were saying that actually is a justification for why he's
- 33:09Speaker 2: only paying half of the child support because he does
- 33:11Speaker 2: have fifty percent custody.
- 33:14Speaker 1: If he's got fifty percent custody, then he really shouldn't
- 33:17Speaker 1: be paying any child support or it would just be
- 33:19Speaker 1: the difference between what she makes and he makes. I think.
- 33:22Speaker 1: So that's curious to me. I would love to know
- 33:26Speaker 1: the specifics of whatever agreement they hammered out.
- 33:29Speaker 2: Me too, me too? And is she getting calimony too?
- 33:33Speaker 2: Like how much is she actually getting from him? Yeah,
- 33:36Speaker 2: that's what I want to know. And is she being
- 33:38Speaker 2: greedy or is she like actually advocating for her full amount.
- 33:44Speaker 2: I don't know, because it's Kim Plath too, Like we
- 33:46Speaker 2: have to keep that in mind a little bit with her.
- 33:48Speaker 2: I'm like, and also, why are you bringing it up
- 33:50Speaker 2: on camera on TV?
- 33:51Speaker 1: She did that last season? She did go when she
- 33:53Speaker 1: wanted that divorce to get finalized and for them to
- 33:56Speaker 1: strike some kind of an agreement.
- 33:57Speaker 2: Right, So it was just interesting she brought that up.
- 34:00Speaker 2: And then when she brings it up, Berry's like, yeah,
- 34:02Speaker 2: I don't have it, and then he just gets up
- 34:03Speaker 2: and leaves.
- 34:04Speaker 1: How does he not have it? Though? Yeah, because he's
- 34:07Speaker 1: i think full time employed at a somewhat lucrative job
- 34:12Speaker 1: that used to support him, her, their children, and all
- 34:15Speaker 1: of their multiple properties. Yes, the mortgage is on all
- 34:18Speaker 1: of the properties. So like, he used to be able
- 34:20Speaker 1: to afford all of that. How come you can't plus
- 34:22Speaker 1: whatever you're making for plaith Bill, Yeah, you should be
- 34:25Speaker 1: able to pay your child support, you.
- 34:27Speaker 2: Think, unless it's a crazy amount. But I'm just like,
- 34:31Speaker 2: that's weird. And he straight up said he couldn't afford it.
- 34:34Speaker 2: So I'm like, are you broke? Like you can't be
- 34:36Speaker 2: broker than Kim who doesn't have a job and she's
- 34:39Speaker 2: married to a retire right is getting social security? Like,
- 34:44Speaker 2: you can't be that bink. So yeah, so I don't know.
- 34:47Speaker 2: It was interesting and so then we flash forward two
- 34:51Speaker 2: weeks later and this is where we get to the
- 34:53Speaker 2: conversation between Kim, Isaac and Ethan.
- 34:58Speaker 1: This was juicy.
- 35:00Speaker 2: So Isaac is at the Cairo property. He's building a
- 35:04Speaker 2: bench or something or a bench. Yeah, he's such a
- 35:06Speaker 2: mean he's so handsome.
- 35:09Speaker 1: He builds, he.
- 35:11Speaker 2: Works with his hands, he does. And then we have Ethan,
- 35:14Speaker 2: who flew down from Wisconsin and they're there because this
- 35:18Speaker 2: is the one year anniversary of Zach and Lydia's weddings.
- 35:20Speaker 2: I guess they're going to be doing some celebration or
- 35:23Speaker 2: whatever as a family.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Why.
- 35:25Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Cringe, feels like they hate Zach and Lydia, but okay.
- 35:28Speaker 2: Yeah, and they're there because they're going to have a
- 35:31Speaker 2: little conversation with Kim before like this celebration or whatever.
- 35:36Speaker 2: So we check him with Ethan. Ethan apparently found a
- 35:41Speaker 2: therapist in Wisconsin, which I was shocked by me as well,
- 35:46Speaker 2: and I'm actually very very happy me too. I really
- 35:50Speaker 2: hope that he sticks with this therapy.
- 35:51Speaker 1: I doubt he will I don't know.
- 35:53Speaker 2: He says he thinks he likes the therapist and it's
- 35:55Speaker 2: good to talk about things and get out of your head.
- 35:58Speaker 1: And I'm like, please just keep going, yes, please.
- 36:01Speaker 2: Just keep going. It'll help you not be an angry
- 36:03Speaker 2: piece of shit. Maybe you can grow from it, because
- 36:06Speaker 2: I do think he's got potential to grow.
- 36:08Speaker 1: Everybody does.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Everybody does, so I'm very encouraged that he's got a therapist. Now.
- 36:13Speaker 2: He says he's still glad that he moved up to Wisconsin,
- 36:16Speaker 2: even though him and Teagan are not dating and they're
- 36:18Speaker 2: never going to date again.
- 36:20Speaker 1: No, she's seen him a couple of times at this point.
- 36:23Speaker 2: Yep.
- 36:24Speaker 1: He's been there for a few months.
- 36:25Speaker 2: Yep. So they're friends, I guess according to Ethan. But
- 36:29Speaker 2: he's he's in therapy and that's all that matters. And
- 36:32Speaker 2: Kim arrives, and then this is where Isaac brings up
- 36:36Speaker 2: the road trip that Kim had back with Lydia and
- 36:40Speaker 2: the Montana trip that Lydia and Zach went on off camera.
- 36:45Speaker 2: So Kim says that she heard Zach was on Mariah's
- 36:53Speaker 2: ass for drinking a bunch of alcohol and said that
- 36:56Speaker 2: that's not godly.
- 36:57Speaker 1: Having alcohol in her home, not necessarily even drinking it.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Yeah right, Because Kim says, I drink alcohol in front
- 37:04Speaker 2: of him all the time.
- 37:05Speaker 1: And I wish he would let him try to tell
- 37:10Speaker 1: me about it.
- 37:11Speaker 2: And it's interesting that he doesn't lecture her about it,
- 37:14Speaker 2: but he's quick to lecture Mariah, right, And I'm like,
- 37:16Speaker 2: Mariah's older than you also, so fuck off, dude. But whatever.
- 37:21Speaker 2: So this is how the conversation starts. Kim says, Zach
- 37:24Speaker 2: is lecturing Mariah about alcohol, and then Isaac says, when
- 37:28Speaker 2: they were in Montana because I guess Isaac and Caylen
- 37:31Speaker 2: went back to Montana, yes, after the trip with Ethan
- 37:35Speaker 2: and Tagan, and this is where they hung out with
- 37:38Speaker 2: Zach and Lydia on that trip. Zach only talked to
- 37:41Speaker 2: the girls when Isaac wasn't around. Fucked up, And didn't
- 37:46Speaker 2: you say last week it was because Isaac would have
- 37:48Speaker 2: checked his ass.
- 37:49Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, he would have checked Zach for going after Mariah.
- 37:55Speaker 1: He would have checked Zach for doing it in front
- 37:57Speaker 1: of Kaylin, his girlfriend. He absolutely what have yep.
- 38:01Speaker 2: And Isaac is frustrated by this because he thinks it's disrespectful.
- 38:07Speaker 2: For one, because Mariah let Zach and Lydia stay at
- 38:11Speaker 2: her house and use her car while they were staying
- 38:14Speaker 2: in Montana. So like, you are being welcomed into this
- 38:17Speaker 2: woman's home and then you have the audacity to lecture
- 38:22Speaker 2: and judge her about not just the alcohol, but the
- 38:26Speaker 2: car games that they're playing, the TV shows that they're watching,
- 38:28Speaker 2: the music she's listening to, everything that she's doing in
- 38:31Speaker 2: her life. Fuck you, that is not honoring God. And
- 38:36Speaker 2: Isaac says something like, you know, normal people know their place, Like,
- 38:40Speaker 2: if you're being welcomed into someone's home, it's not your place,
- 38:44Speaker 2: or you're right to make any comments or judgments about
- 38:47Speaker 2: how they live their lives. You might personally disagree with
- 38:50Speaker 2: some of the things that they're doing, but you're being
- 38:53Speaker 2: welcomed into their home. It's none of your fucking business.
- 38:56Speaker 2: And then he quotes the log in your eye or
- 38:59Speaker 2: the speck in your eye scripture.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Well, don't pick out this speck in your brother's eye
- 39:03Speaker 1: when you're walking around just redwood logging it, Yeah, in
- 39:07Speaker 1: your own eye.
- 39:08Speaker 2: And didn't you say that last week too? I think
- 39:10Speaker 2: I did, base yes, And this gets into a conversation
- 39:14Speaker 2: about religion, which I actually really appreciated in this episode
- 39:17Speaker 2: because we hear from all three of them, Isaac, Kim,
- 39:20Speaker 2: and Ethan about how it's mainly Isaac and Ethan talking
- 39:23Speaker 2: about Christianity, how these are the kinds of Christians that
- 39:26Speaker 2: they hate because it's not godly to sit there and
- 39:29Speaker 2: judge everybody else. It's actually pretty fucked up. And Ethan
- 39:34Speaker 2: in particular gets really mad about it. And I thought
- 39:37Speaker 2: this was really great because we know online people are
- 39:41Speaker 2: always shitting on Ethan in particular for being a Christian
- 39:45Speaker 2: nationalist or whatever and being a bigot and stuff, and
- 39:48Speaker 2: I'm just like, here you are. We have Ethan saying
- 39:50Speaker 2: like we shouldn't be judging people like this is not
- 39:53Speaker 2: what real Christianity is.
- 39:56Speaker 1: Thank you, loved. And I know I've been soapboxing up
- 40:00Speaker 1: about this, least do it more multiple episodes, but this
- 40:04Speaker 1: is the kind of Christian that I feel like we
- 40:08Speaker 1: need to call out, or really the type of Christianity
- 40:11Speaker 1: that other Christians need to call out. And there's always
- 40:15Speaker 1: this and I think, I yeah, in the preview, doesn't
- 40:18Speaker 1: Lydia say something like, well, but God says righteous anger,
- 40:21Speaker 1: yes is okay? Or whatever? Like all of these Christians
- 40:27Speaker 1: who cherry pick scriptures that don't actually originate from the
- 40:33Speaker 1: words of Jesus, which should supersede if you're a Christian,
- 40:36Speaker 1: should supersede any other scripture in the Bible, the Red
- 40:39Speaker 1: Letters in the Bible, should supersede anything that Paul said,
- 40:43Speaker 1: anything that John said, any other book. And yet they
- 40:48Speaker 1: rely on cherry picking in order to continue to judge people.
- 40:53Speaker 1: And this is what I think Zach and Lydia are
- 40:56Speaker 1: doing now. I find that to be odious, yep and repel.
- 41:00Speaker 1: But at the same time, when I was their age,
- 41:02Speaker 1: and I was sold out in radical for Jesus, and
- 41:04Speaker 1: I was literally a missionary to all of these South
- 41:07Speaker 1: Pacific islands. Missionary work in and of itself is arrogant,
- 41:12Speaker 1: and proselytization trying to convert somebody to your religion is arrogant.
- 41:17Speaker 1: But like when I was young, I was doing it too,
- 41:19Speaker 1: because when you're young, you're idealistic, and in Christianity, you're
- 41:24Speaker 1: a young person who loves Jesus and you want everybody
- 41:27Speaker 1: to know. And also you've had the fear of religion
- 41:29Speaker 1: instilled in you. So like, if I don't help my
- 41:32Speaker 1: sister be saved, she's going to a literal hell. So
- 41:36Speaker 1: I feel like I've got to do something. So like,
- 41:37Speaker 1: there's so much fucked up messaging within these systems of
- 41:41Speaker 1: religious groupthink, and you really see Lydia and Zach as
- 41:45Speaker 1: a product of that. Totally. So having the counterpoint of
- 41:49Speaker 1: a young man like Isaac younger than Lydia yep, right, Yes,
- 41:54Speaker 1: being able to quote a scripture and call out his
- 41:58Speaker 1: sister for being is se antichrist yeah, and Unchristian. I
- 42:03Speaker 1: think is so good for somebody like me to see
- 42:06Speaker 1: because I relate to Kim when she's like, I've mullowed out,
- 42:10Speaker 1: I've chilled out. I'm not so much the letter of
- 42:13Speaker 1: the law or pharasitical, if you will. I'm more the
- 42:16Speaker 1: spirit of the law and the love. And that's God
- 42:20Speaker 1: is my friend. Yes, like that's I relate to that,
- 42:24Speaker 1: and I think a lot of us really relate to that,
- 42:26Speaker 1: and much less with this organized religious mouthpiece bullshit. I
- 42:32Speaker 1: have hope for Lydia, yeah, because she seems like an
- 42:34Speaker 1: intelligent girl with a big heart. I have hope for
- 42:38Speaker 1: her that she will come out of this at some
- 42:40Speaker 1: point just as I did, and she will have a
- 42:43Speaker 1: more full and compassionate spiritual experience. But as long as
- 42:50Speaker 1: she's yoked to a guy like Zach, yeah, I worry
- 42:54Speaker 1: a little bit about that.
- 42:56Speaker 2: I really do think Zach is the negative influence here,
- 43:00Speaker 2: because I think Zach is the one that is making
- 43:02Speaker 2: these judgments and like influencing Lydia to be like this.
- 43:07Speaker 2: And I think Lydia, you know, isn't there like some
- 43:10Speaker 2: scripture or whatever that's like honor your husband or something
- 43:12Speaker 2: like that. Maybe she's trying to be this like good Christian.
- 43:16Speaker 1: But also husbands you have to serve your wives, right,
- 43:19Speaker 1: It's a mutual.
- 43:19Speaker 2: Thing for sure. But I think that Lydia is probably
- 43:23Speaker 2: acting as like I've got to be this dutiful wife
- 43:25Speaker 2: and like if this, if my husband says this, then
- 43:27Speaker 2: he's right because God and blah blah blah. Like so
- 43:30Speaker 2: she's just like following suit with this, and I really
- 43:34Speaker 2: hate it. I hate it for her, I hate it
- 43:36Speaker 2: for the family. And I do appreciate that the Plaths
- 43:39Speaker 2: are calling it out and they're they're being pretty articulate
- 43:43Speaker 2: with it and articulate about their faith and everything of
- 43:45Speaker 2: like this is not what Christ preached at all, Like
- 43:49Speaker 2: what are we doing here? And I was watching this
- 43:51Speaker 2: with your daughter, who straight up said like, these are
- 43:54Speaker 2: the types of Christians that turn people away from Christ. Yes,
- 43:58Speaker 2: because people get icked out by this type of Christianity
- 44:02Speaker 2: where you're so fucking judgmental that you're telling people how
- 44:05Speaker 2: to live their lives.
- 44:06Speaker 1: You're not God, No, you are not. You know what
- 44:08Speaker 1: I was thinking as I was watching this, like maybe
- 44:13Speaker 1: Kim's terrible behavior, having an adulterous affair, allegedly drinking and
- 44:20Speaker 1: partying and doing all the things she's been doing, Maybe
- 44:22Speaker 1: that's actually the pivot that all of the children needed
- 44:28Speaker 1: to extricate themselves from this cult, to cut the cord,
- 44:33Speaker 1: give them permission if you will, not to have to
- 44:36Speaker 1: continue in this system. Like her doing that saved and
- 44:40Speaker 1: even freed these kids. And it's like Hosanna, I think
- 44:43Speaker 1: is still super turbo evangelical, you've got Lydia, but I
- 44:47Speaker 1: think the rest of them have moved away from this
- 44:53Speaker 1: religion for the most part. Like, for example, she seems
- 44:56Speaker 1: like a free thinker, she seems like a truth teller. Yeah,
- 44:59Speaker 1: And I think Cassia and also Mercy are very similar
- 45:02Speaker 1: in that way. So kind of thank God that Kim
- 45:05Speaker 1: made these terrible decisions so her children could be liberated
- 45:08Speaker 1: from her fucked up religion, but you still have you
- 45:11Speaker 1: still have Lydia who's now married to the Kim and
- 45:14Speaker 1: Barry replacement, which is.
- 45:16Speaker 2: Zach one hundred percent. And actually, when Lydia went on
- 45:20Speaker 2: I think the Matt and Abbey podcast, she talked about
- 45:22Speaker 2: this a little bit about when her parents split up,
- 45:25Speaker 2: like it was kind of like her whole world turned
- 45:28Speaker 2: upside down, and like she did kind of verbalize a
- 45:32Speaker 2: little bit about how it like it just made her
- 45:37Speaker 2: question a lot of things. Of course, I questioned the
- 45:39Speaker 2: way that they grew up and all this stuff. But
- 45:41Speaker 2: then she said that she leaned in harder to her
- 45:44Speaker 2: religious structure and stuff just to have some kind of
- 45:48Speaker 2: foundation because everything changed, of course, And look like I
- 45:51Speaker 2: can have sympathy for that, Like this is a really
- 45:53Speaker 2: big change in their family and their life, and especially
- 45:57Speaker 2: with Lydia being the parentified middle child old, you know,
- 46:01Speaker 2: like this would have been really shocking and detrimentaled her.
- 46:05Speaker 2: So I can't blame her for turning to religion for
- 46:08Speaker 2: the structure. It's just unfortunate that she had to marry an.
- 46:11Speaker 1: Allegedly gay guy. Got stop saying, well, but he sucks dude, absolutely.
- 46:19Speaker 2: I like that. No, no, no, no, no. Obviously I'm gay.
- 46:22Speaker 2: I don't think gay people suck. But it's just like
- 46:24Speaker 2: I think, Zach, like, how dare you be so judgmental
- 46:29Speaker 2: of everybody else, like when you don't want people to
- 46:31Speaker 2: judge you?
- 46:32Speaker 1: Yeah, And how dare you both tell your family that
- 46:35Speaker 1: you don't want them to be talking about you and
- 46:38Speaker 1: spreading rumors and then here you are talking about all
- 46:42Speaker 1: of these other people in your family. You fucking hypocrites.
- 46:45Speaker 2: And Isaac called that out this l which was so
- 46:49Speaker 2: all loved it. And this was in the context, of course,
- 46:52Speaker 2: of Joshua, because Kim brings us up to Ethan and
- 46:55Speaker 2: Isaac about how Lydia went on these podcasts and talked
- 46:58Speaker 2: about Joshua's death in depth and said some things that
- 47:03Speaker 2: Kim felt were inappropriate and too sensitive to the subject matter. Apparently,
- 47:09Speaker 2: according to Kim, Lydia went into extreme detail about like
- 47:14Speaker 2: the events of Joshua's death on that day, and Lydia
- 47:18Speaker 2: also speculated that Joshua's death led to Kim and Barry's divorce,
- 47:24Speaker 2: And Kim does say on camera and to Ethan and
- 47:26Speaker 2: Isaac that that was not the reason why they split up,
- 47:30Speaker 2: and this opens up a conversation about whether or not
- 47:36Speaker 2: Lydia was in the right to say these things publicly,
- 47:39Speaker 2: and according to Kim and Ethan and Isaac, Lydia should
- 47:44Speaker 2: not have gone out publicly talking about such a sensitive,
- 47:49Speaker 2: traumatic subject. And Isaac and Ethan are both under this understanding,
- 47:56Speaker 2: this mutual understanding of like, this was a really traumatic event,
- 48:01Speaker 2: Kim was the one obviously at the hands of it,
- 48:04Speaker 2: and if she doesn't want to talk about it, and
- 48:06Speaker 2: if she doesn't really want to address it in the family,
- 48:08Speaker 2: like that's cool with them. And Ethan even says that
- 48:11Speaker 2: to Kim, says, hey, Mom, if you never want to
- 48:14Speaker 2: talk about Joshua with me ever again, like I'm cool
- 48:17Speaker 2: with that. I'm gonna be okay with it. And then
- 48:19Speaker 2: Isaac says something really nice to Kim, like, Mom, like
- 48:22Speaker 2: you did such a great job raising all nine of
- 48:25Speaker 2: us while going through that, Like I don't fault you
- 48:27Speaker 2: for anything, like I forgive you, I love you, and
- 48:30Speaker 2: you did a great job given the circumstances. And Kim's
- 48:33Speaker 2: really appreciative to hear about that. And obviously Kim says
- 48:37Speaker 2: to the camera, which I think is valid. She says,
- 48:41Speaker 2: you know, I cannot deal with the pain of losing Joshua,
- 48:47Speaker 2: but I can't deal with the pain even more of
- 48:49Speaker 2: losing of hurting all of my children at the same time,
- 48:53Speaker 2: and like not being there for them, Like the guilt,
- 48:55Speaker 2: the overwhelming guilt and shame that I feel is just
- 48:58Speaker 2: too much to bear. And so Lydia or sorry. When
- 49:02Speaker 2: Kim says that Lydia went on these podcasts and talked
- 49:05Speaker 2: about it, it just opened up this wound all over
- 49:09Speaker 2: again for her.
- 49:12Speaker 1: And I think that that's valid, yep, And I understand that,
- 49:16Speaker 1: But I maintain that Lydia had every right to say
- 49:20Speaker 1: whatever she thought and whatever she felt, because I think,
- 49:23Speaker 1: as I said last week, it's not just your story, Kim,
- 49:27Speaker 1: especially when you had multiple children, if not all of
- 49:32Speaker 1: the children that were also present at the time, some
- 49:35Speaker 1: of whom can remember what actually happened. That's their story too. Yes,
- 49:40Speaker 1: that's their perspective of what happened, and they are entitled
- 49:44Speaker 1: to be able to talk about that, use that as
- 49:47Speaker 1: a demonstration of how to overcome stuff. Also lament that
- 49:51Speaker 1: they were never given their resources to fully process and
- 49:56Speaker 1: heal from that, and like all of that is entirely fair,
- 50:01Speaker 1: but at the same time, two things are true at
- 50:03Speaker 1: the same time, that also would hurt Kim. Yes, and
- 50:05Speaker 1: that to somebody who's been masking for seventeen years, for
- 50:08Speaker 1: somebody who's just been tamping trauma, the worst trauma as
- 50:13Speaker 1: a mom, a parent, I could ever imagine just stuffing
- 50:16Speaker 1: it down like that would be absolutely triggering to somebody
- 50:22Speaker 1: like Kim. Both ladies are entitled to their perspective, and
- 50:27Speaker 1: I think deep down Kim understands this.
- 50:30Speaker 2: I agree, and I.
- 50:31Speaker 1: Think Kim knows that Lydia needs to talk about it.
- 50:36Speaker 1: And the reason we have her going to therapy in
- 50:39Speaker 1: the next scene is because she's doing it for Lydia.
- 50:42Speaker 1: She says that, like, I want to be a parent
- 50:45Speaker 1: who can help Lydia through this process because it's obviously
- 50:48Speaker 1: still harmful to her. It's still hurting her, it's still
- 50:51Speaker 1: hurting me. I want to be able to collaborate and
- 50:54Speaker 1: connect with her around that. Yes, So, like all of
- 50:57Speaker 1: it's sad, all of it is traumatic. I understand that
- 51:03Speaker 1: Kim has legitimate PTSD and maybe so does Lydia for sure,
- 51:08Speaker 1: So like, this family needs a lot of help.
- 51:13Speaker 2: And I went looking on the into whips and the
- 51:16Speaker 2: reddits and the YouTube's to try and find what clips
- 51:20Speaker 2: like Kim was referencing, because Kim talks about this in
- 51:24Speaker 2: these episodes, saying Lydia went into extreme detail and she
- 51:28Speaker 2: was sharing things that were really sensitive that you know,
- 51:32Speaker 2: the family didn't feel was appropriate to be sharing on
- 51:36Speaker 2: such a public platform. And I was like looking online
- 51:39Speaker 2: and I'm like trying to find what Lydia said that
- 51:43Speaker 2: was so harmful, And the clips on Matt Nabby's podcast
- 51:47Speaker 2: and the Jill Duggars podcasts are actually pretty innocuous, Like
- 51:50Speaker 2: they're pretty like Lydia was very i think gracious, where
- 51:55Speaker 2: she was just talking about how this was a really
- 51:57Speaker 2: traumatic thing. It was in the hands of Kim, nobody
- 52:00Speaker 2: could talk about it. That was really hard for her,
- 52:03Speaker 2: you know, But she can't necessarily blame her parents for
- 52:06Speaker 2: that because obviously it was traumatizing. Like, Lydia has a
- 52:09Speaker 2: right to say these things. But I did find a
- 52:14Speaker 2: old Reddit post from like four months ago or whatever
- 52:17Speaker 2: that had a screenshot of the Matt Nabby's podcast where
- 52:20Speaker 2: it had a thumbnail that was Lydia saying, I watched
- 52:24Speaker 2: my brother die and this was the podcast that everybody
- 52:29Speaker 2: was referencing, and I go and look at it, and
- 52:32Speaker 2: they recently changed the thumbnail. Now the thumbnail says like
- 52:36Speaker 2: my family was torn apart or something. So my theory
- 52:41Speaker 2: is that maybe Lydia did actually go into extreme detail
- 52:45Speaker 2: and maybe it upset Kim so much and then they
- 52:48Speaker 2: edited it out and like changed the thumbnail, because that
- 52:51Speaker 2: thumbnail is pretty crazy to say, like I watched my
- 52:54Speaker 2: brother die, Like that's.
- 52:55Speaker 1: That's pretty graphicative.
- 52:58Speaker 2: Yes, So I'm kind of one wondering maybe Lydia did
- 53:01Speaker 2: go into too much detail and maybe Kim was uncomfortable
- 53:05Speaker 2: about some of the things that she had said. And
- 53:07Speaker 2: if that's the case, I can understand that. You know,
- 53:12Speaker 2: Kim says in this episode this week that Lydia went
- 53:16Speaker 2: into detail about it and she can't listen to that,
- 53:19Speaker 2: like it's too traumatizing, because Kim obviously already has her
- 53:23Speaker 2: own play by pay moments where she's repeating it in
- 53:26Speaker 2: her mind every single fucking day of her life and
- 53:28Speaker 2: it's too painful for her. So like, I can understand that.
- 53:33Speaker 2: I do think you're right. There's two things here that
- 53:36Speaker 2: are true. Lydia has a right to talk about her
- 53:38Speaker 2: experience because Lydia has said on these podcasts that she
- 53:43Speaker 2: was only four, but she remembers everything. She remembers the
- 53:46Speaker 2: details she remembers seeing Joshua's body. And I saw some
- 53:50Speaker 2: people on Reddit say that Lydia did go into a
- 53:53Speaker 2: lot of detail about it, But I can't find the
- 53:55Speaker 2: clips where Lydia went into detail, so I'm thinking it
- 53:58Speaker 2: got edited. I don't know if somebody has like a
- 54:01Speaker 2: saved clip that you can send us so we can
- 54:03Speaker 2: watch it, because I'm really curious what Kim was so
- 54:06Speaker 2: upset about. My vibe is Kim was triggered. I think
- 54:11Speaker 2: Kim was triggered to have Lydia express her emotions about it.
- 54:16Speaker 2: I think Kim is triggered because, like she says in
- 54:20Speaker 2: this episode, she can't bear the fact that she hurt
- 54:23Speaker 2: all of her children.
- 54:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 54:24Speaker 2: Also, like it's just the whole thing is terrible. It's
- 54:28Speaker 2: already terrible to lose a child in this way, but
- 54:31Speaker 2: it's terrible even more to know that you weren't being
- 54:36Speaker 2: a good parent because you were traumatized, and you couldn't
- 54:40Speaker 2: be there for your other kids because you were grieving
- 54:43Speaker 2: the worst loss a parent can have.
- 54:46Speaker 1: Well, what was really poignant to me was during therapy,
- 54:49Speaker 1: and I know we're about to get there.
- 54:50Speaker 2: Oh, we'll get there right now. Okay, yeah, all right, well, yeah,
- 54:53Speaker 2: Kim goes to therapy.
- 54:54Speaker 1: Kim goes to therapy with the therapists that tried to
- 54:56Speaker 1: therapize Veronica, Peters and Micah, which not successful. But wow,
- 55:02Speaker 1: Kim is there. What she says is and I thought
- 55:04Speaker 1: this was so so again poignant, She says, I know
- 55:09Speaker 1: what I went through when this happened, and the hell
- 55:14Speaker 1: that I was in and the months and months that
- 55:18Speaker 1: I had to walk through where I was completely emotionally
- 55:21Speaker 1: and physically debilitated. To think that my kids went through
- 55:26Speaker 1: that too and I wasn't able to help them shatters me. Yeah,
- 55:32Speaker 1: it never maybe occurred to her that her kids were
- 55:36Speaker 1: having the same experience on the same level as her,
- 55:40Speaker 1: because she was so myopic in her trauma response. Ye,
- 55:45Speaker 1: she didn't have the bandwidth to pick up on what
- 55:48Speaker 1: was going on with the kids and certainly not to
- 55:51Speaker 1: help them. So here she is, at fifty six or
- 55:53Speaker 1: whatever however old, she is realizing, Oh my god, the
- 55:56Speaker 1: worst thing that ever happened to me that broke me
- 55:59Speaker 1: as a p also happened to my kids, and it
- 56:02Speaker 1: was because of me, because I was the one behind
- 56:06Speaker 1: the wheel. That is what she's dealing with. Yes, because
- 56:10Speaker 1: she knows she's a broken person. Of course she's acknowledging
- 56:13Speaker 1: in these episodes. We don't know how to talk. There's
- 56:16Speaker 1: something wrong with us fundamentally, and then to make the
- 56:20Speaker 1: connection that, oh, I'm the one who made my kids
- 56:23Speaker 1: this way, and what if they are to this day
- 56:26Speaker 1: still struggling with this, like Lydia is because she's not
- 56:28Speaker 1: on podcasts, yeah, talking about her pain around it and
- 56:32Speaker 1: that pain touches my pain, yes, activates my pain. Now
- 56:36Speaker 1: it's alive again, and I don't know what to fucking
- 56:38Speaker 1: do with it exactly.
- 56:40Speaker 2: And like Kim said last week, what really hurt her
- 56:43Speaker 2: the most was that Lydia felt more comfortable going on
- 56:46Speaker 2: these public platforms talking about such a painful, traumatic thing
- 56:50Speaker 2: instead of talking to Kim.
- 56:52Speaker 1: Well, Kim would not have been able to hear it
- 56:54Speaker 1: the course, and Lydia knows that.
- 56:56Speaker 2: And I think Kim knows that too, Like she knows
- 56:59Speaker 2: she hasn't been able to talk about this for seventeen years,
- 57:02Speaker 2: and so like the whole thing is just painful, and
- 57:06Speaker 2: like I'm of two minds here, Like, again, Lydia is
- 57:10Speaker 2: allowed to talk about her experience, but Kim. You know,
- 57:14Speaker 2: it's it's unfair for Kim to have put maybe a
- 57:20Speaker 2: spoken or unspoken expectation on all of her kids to
- 57:23Speaker 2: just not talk about this because it was too painful.
- 57:25Speaker 2: Because Lydia says on these podcasts that nobody was allowed
- 57:29Speaker 2: to talk about it in front of Kim that if
- 57:31Speaker 2: they ever talked about it and Kim like entered the
- 57:34Speaker 2: room or whatever, everybody had to kind of stop talking
- 57:36Speaker 2: about it. And I don't even think that that was
- 57:38Speaker 2: like a malicious thing or like that Kim got mad
- 57:41Speaker 2: at them for it. It was just so painful that
- 57:44Speaker 2: the family had this understanding and this expectation to just
- 57:47Speaker 2: not bring it up in front of Kim because she
- 57:49Speaker 2: would be devastated or she would have a tromper response
- 57:53Speaker 2: or whatever. So like it's unfair that that was put
- 57:56Speaker 2: on the kids. Yes, that they couldn't express their feelings
- 58:01Speaker 2: around this death because everybody experienced the death. It's unfair
- 58:05Speaker 2: about that, But I don't even think it was put
- 58:08Speaker 2: on them in a way that was like like mean
- 58:11Speaker 2: or malicious or whatever. I think Kim was just deeply traumatized.
- 58:15Speaker 2: And I think the other thing is that the older
- 58:18Speaker 2: kids understand that at a better level than Lydia still does.
- 58:24Speaker 2: I don't think Lydia could have understood it at four
- 58:26Speaker 2: years old. I don't think she really understands it now
- 58:28Speaker 2: as an adult. The older kids get it, and I
- 58:31Speaker 2: think they've always got it of like mom did this
- 58:36Speaker 2: and it was an accident, and she feels so much
- 58:38Speaker 2: guilt and shame, like we're just gonna deal with it individually,
- 58:42Speaker 2: and like that works for some people, Like I get
- 58:45Speaker 2: that as an older sibling, Like there are some things
- 58:47Speaker 2: that I just like don't bring up to my parents
- 58:49Speaker 2: because I know it would be hurtful for them. And
- 58:52Speaker 2: I'm not saying that in like a bad way. I'm like,
- 58:54Speaker 2: I'll just deal with it on my own because I
- 58:57Speaker 2: know it would hurt them, and I have that understanding.
- 59:00Speaker 2: I think Lydia doesn't really get that. And I think
- 59:03Speaker 2: maybe that's like the root of this is that like
- 59:06Speaker 2: Lydia went and talked about it on a public on
- 59:08Speaker 2: two public podcasts, and so then you have like all
- 59:10Speaker 2: these clips like circling around, and so of course, like
- 59:13Speaker 2: Kim is going to see that and it is going
- 59:15Speaker 2: to be hurt by that. And I'm like, did you
- 59:17Speaker 2: call your mom and tell her that you're going to
- 59:19Speaker 2: talk about this?
- 59:20Speaker 1: She might have. Maybe that's how Kim knows that the
- 59:22Speaker 1: podcast happened. Maybe, But also I have respect for Lydia
- 59:26Speaker 1: for being the disruptor, sure, and then going like, I'm
- 59:29Speaker 1: going to talk about it, right, y'all can stay in
- 59:31Speaker 1: your secret places and do your dysfunctional, tomato faced things,
- 59:36Speaker 1: but I'm going to actually talk about it, and maybe
- 59:39Speaker 1: through my talking about it, I will help somebody else
- 59:41Speaker 1: get through it or try to find a way to
- 59:44Speaker 1: process this kind of thing in a more healthy and
- 59:46Speaker 1: productive way.
- 59:47Speaker 2: And that's the thing too.
- 59:48Speaker 1: Yeah, so like you need a Lydia, Like because Lydia
- 59:51Speaker 1: said it, Kim reacted to it. Now, Kim's at therapy.
- 59:54Speaker 1: Now we're going to have a conversation about it, and
- 59:56Speaker 1: then the family needs to have this conversation. So at
- 59:59Speaker 1: the the end of the day, it is actually a
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: good thing that Lydia did it.
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: And I agree with that, and I think it was
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: actually really cool that we ended the episode with Kim
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: going to therapy for that reason, and she tells a
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: therapist that, like I want to be able to talk
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: about this. I can't verbalize it right now, and I'm
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: having a hard time. And the therapist was pretty cool
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: because she does confront Kim about it, like being like, well,
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: Lydia's putting you on blast because she's basically saying like,
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: she needs this from you, and has she asked you
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: or told you what she needs from you? And Kim's
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: like no, And the therapist is like, well, have you asked
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: her what she needs? And Kim's like no. And so
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: obviously that's the other issue here is that you know,
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: Kim couldn't have even been like, hey, hmm, do you
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: need to talk about this? Like Kim was just busy
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: dealing with it on her own. And I get that.
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: I understand why she was dealing with Beatrice.
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: It's all fucked up, and that's all it is.
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: It's so fucked up.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: It's all fucked up. Everybody fucked up.
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: And she talks about being pregnant with Amber.
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: Oh.
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: Yeah, and I didn't know that she was pregnant at
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: the time of Joshua's death, which is fucking insane. And
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: so then Joshua dies and then she has to give
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: birth to Amber a couple months later, and she says
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: that she thought it would get better after the birth
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: of Amber, but like she was so heavy in her
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: grief that she couldn't even like bond with Amber. She
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: couldn't sing to her, she couldn't even look her in
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: the eye. I was so sad to hear that.
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: I had a tearball when she said I couldn't sing
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: to her.
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: I was so sad, and like dealing with postpartum on
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: top of that, Like, it's just Kim's a traumatized person.
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: And I know a lot of people and like, we
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: have been hard on Kim, but I know a lot
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: of people on Reddit are even worse about their opinions
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: about Kim heartless, but there are some people that are
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: being like, you know what, even though I don't like her,
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: I can still give her grace with this and I
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: would never judge her for her reaction to something as
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: horrific as this. And it's awful. So anyway, Kim's hurting,
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: she's in therapy. Everybody's sad. And so we have the
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: preview for next week. We have Kim telling Lydia that
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: now she's finally ready to talk about Joshua, which is
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: really cool. We have Ethan arriving with Teagan.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: Why Teagan, you don't like this boy, you don't want
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: this boy, you don't end up with this boy? Why
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: are you still on camera here? Goblin ded Yes, okay.
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: And she's always she's like wearing this like shirt with
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: her titties out and stuff, and I'm just like, what
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: are you doing if you're not willing to get back
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: with Ethan. But they arrive at the family farm because
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: they're gonna sit down and talk to Zach and Lydia.
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: I'm like, why does Teagan gotta be there for that?
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: Because I think Zach said some things about Teagan. Oh
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: my god, are we gonna bring it up? I believe
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: we are.
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: And so when everybody sits down to confront Zach and Lydia, Mariah.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: Gets up and I'll be in the kitchen.
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: I think that's kind of funny. I don't want the confrontation.
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: She's like, peace out. And this is where Ethan tells
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: Zach that he is overstepping, and Zach, of course, has
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: been the victim, and he's like, I guess like everybody
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: hates me in the family.
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: Right, I hate you, dude? Yeah, I don't like him
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: at all. I'm over it me too, And it kind
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: of gave me the vibration of I'm just like Olivia,
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: like they've always got to have a villain in this family, yep,
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: and so that's me now, I guess I'm like, no, actually,
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: you suck though, and what you did with Mariah was
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: bad and judgmental, and you're on then ice anyway, and
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: these people don't know you.
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: So slow your role, dude, slow your role. And I
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: don't know why everybody's got to compare themselves to Olivia
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: being like, but I'm not the villain. I plus family
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: just needs a villain. Veronica says this too.
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: Veronica was a villain, a bona fide villain.
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: And now Zack, Yeah.
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: Well, I mean Zach has aspects that I mean, he's
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: a young kid. Same with Olivia, Like, there's a lot
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: of things you're doing wrong, but you can you can
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: still do back, Veronica Peters, I don't believe it could
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: do better. Yeah, No, demons need to be exercised out
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: of people sometimes. Well, this was a good episode. It's
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: something West are coming to the surface. The sunlight is
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: disinfecting stuff, and I'm here for it. We do now,
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: is there anything else that we need to say to
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: these beautiful raccoons before we get up on at a
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: here Beatrice.
