Transcript
- 0:15We are recording now. We are off the cuff, we are off
- 0:19the chain. We are ready to go.
- 0:23Welcome back everybody. My name is Nick and this is
- 0:25Brody. We're your host this week on
- 0:27WASD and beyond. I almost said it came from
- 0:30screen box because this may as well have been and it came from
- 0:33screen box episode. But this week we got Peter Bude
- 0:36and Sean King. Guys, I'm gonna skip all of our
- 0:40other shit that we usually do on the show, and I want you guys to
- 0:42just take the floor, take over and tell everybody exactly who
- 0:45you guys are and what you guys do.
- 0:47Cool. I'm Sean King.
- 0:49I was born. In Hey Sean, I'm a huge fan,
- 0:51man. New York, It's.
- 0:52Happy to be here, Pete. Go first.
- 0:56You're the returning guest, so you go first.
- 0:58Yeah, what's up Nick and Brody? I was here a few months ago
- 1:03promoting Death Chasm, the Death Chasm comic book graphic novel
- 1:07Death Chasm 1.5. We had a good time hanging out.
- 1:10Refer back to that episode for my credentials.
- 1:15Or if you're just like discovering it now.
- 1:18Yeah, I'm like a micro budget filmmaker from Long Island, New
- 1:21York. Now I'm a comic book writer and
- 1:27Deathgasm is coming out soon to with the movie Deathgasm 2
- 1:33coming in. Did I say coming out?
- 1:35Enough coming out you did. One more time, though, was it
- 1:38coming out? Yeah, coming in a.
- 1:39Clean read, Let's. Go Pete had a busy year last
- 1:42year, last couple of years, writing The Scream, the Scream
- 1:47again. The deaf guy, I wrote Scream 7.
- 1:51We're not supposed to talk about Scream 7 yet.
- 1:54No, But, he wrote. I did.
- 1:55Not that's a lie. He was steeped in the deaf chasm
- 1:58thing, but he also helped create scream walkers, so which which
- 2:03was a. I was the guy just rubbing his
- 2:06shoulders. Rubbing the street walkers.
- 2:11I was rubbing Sean's shoulders. You were giving him the massage
- 2:13and the massage chair. Yeah, Sean would be like massage
- 2:16boy. Yes, Sir.
- 2:19Right here, right here, right? Here, Sean Sean's sitting in the
- 2:21director's chair with the mask on.
- 2:23Just pee in the back just massaging the and.
- 2:26We were shooting that day. It was just, you know.
- 2:29Put. The camera up there, you were
- 2:30like shooting selfie style. I thought we were it was well it
- 2:33was it was like 8 days of that before Pete realized there was
- 2:35no one else there. So we weren't actually rolling.
- 2:39I haven't actually watched the movie yet.
- 2:41So Sean says I was great. Well, I, I wrote and directed
- 2:46Scream walkers, you know, along with a bunch of other great
- 2:48people in New York. But Pete and I go way back, way
- 2:55back, creating things from high school, just after high school.
- 2:59Pete, let's like do a quick history.
- 3:01Yeah, this is like a Kim's Video T-shirt from the 90s.
- 3:04And that's how far Sean and I go back.
- 3:06This is a New York, NY, New York City video store.
- 3:12That's how far Sean and I have been, how long we've been
- 3:16working together since like the late 90s.
- 3:19It's it's got to be 30 years. No, no, it was, it was.
- 3:22Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. 28 years, almost 28 years, 28 years
- 3:27later, it was, it was, it was 1997.
- 3:30Well, Pete, since like we both used the, the TV production
- 3:35class in our high school, even after we graduated, they still
- 3:38let us come back. It was really strange and it's
- 3:40completely illegal now, but they let us come back.
- 3:43You know, we were 20 years old. There's a Pete worked there.
- 3:45So it was fine. But I would, I would shoot
- 3:48movies on VHS tape, videotape on the weekends or whatever.
- 3:51And then we'd I'd come in and Monday and Tuesday and I'd edit,
- 3:55edit the movies together. But this was like VHS deck to
- 3:59deck like with the wheels and the punching of the thing.
- 4:01I. Don't know if you guys are old
- 4:03enough to remember. Remember those days?
- 4:06VHS. Yeah, yeah, deck to deck.
- 4:08Like I never shot. Anything on VHS?
- 4:10Reel to reel editing, they were like cutting like we shot it on
- 4:14Vista, Vista Vision. Vista Vision and then dumped it
- 4:16down to VHS and then reel to reel kind of VCR VCR.
- 4:22But I was there watching Pete's things that he was editing while
- 4:26he was working. Really he wasn't really working.
- 4:28He was editing his own things. Porn very good Pete but and then
- 4:34I was editing the movies that I was shooting and then we were
- 4:37all just you know, we'd look over it, you know, each each
- 4:39editing Bay and be like, oh, that's hilarious.
- 4:41Hey, cool man. And I, I became a big fan of
- 4:43Pete's. Pete was a great editor and
- 4:47writer. No, no, he, he made a lot of
- 4:49short films, you know, comedies and things.
- 4:51And I was doing like fun. I was doing horror comedy or
- 4:54something like comedies with some other people in the
- 4:57neighborhood and then. People were telling us to team
- 5:02up and then we. Did they were.
- 5:03Yeah. They were like, why don't you?
- 5:04Yeah. And then there was an
- 5:05opportunity for me to come and help you in 1997 on your comedy
- 5:10show called Slacker TV. And you guys probably went
- 5:13through this whole history on the other show with.
- 5:15No, we didn't go that far back. Yeah, we didn't go that.
- 5:17Far back, didn't we, I? Don't know how much of this is
- 5:19necessary, but let's just go for it.
- 5:20Kind of. I mean, we have to fill, we have
- 5:22to fill like 50 minutes, right? So.
- 5:24That's, yeah, about 5055, yeah. All right, so, so I jumped on
- 5:29his thing and then he helped me with my things.
- 5:32And then he's being humble, man. He's being humble.
- 5:34Like Sean was a legend. I was like a sketch comedy guy
- 5:38and he was like a he was making movies.
- 5:40He was making film on film. Got.
- 5:42It not Vista Vision, but he was shooting, he was shooting on 8mm
- 5:45sixteen. Yeah, we, yeah, we were shooting
- 5:46at his own camera. Yeah.
- 5:48And, and then we would transfer them to to tape and then I would
- 5:50come in and, and that's when he would be on tape.
- 5:53Yeah, and I would be the guy working there.
- 5:54Like dude, whoa, you're shooting on like 16.
- 5:57Like where did? You find that?
- 5:58He said. I found it in a garage sale, you
- 6:00know, like, like that. Yeah.
- 6:03And then I was shooting sketches on VHS.
- 6:06Yeah, but I wanted to do more comedy with you.
- 6:09And then that's when there was an opening on your on your
- 6:11sketch show. And the game wasn't the other
- 6:14name. We did one show and then and
- 6:16then the one of the guys left and then Sean worked with us for
- 6:20the next 30 years. So that's.
- 6:23But it was sort of like it was, it was like a Mad TV type of
- 6:26thing. It was a sketch show, but we
- 6:28could also be versions of ourselves on this show.
- 6:31So we created kind of these like hyper ridiculous versions of
- 6:35ourselves and then and we were doing sketches, but then people
- 6:40were creating. Movies we, we were creating
- 6:42yeah, yeah, just like mad magazines, yeah, just.
- 6:44Yeah, Mad magazine would spoof like a movie in in the pages, we
- 6:47would do the same thing. We would do like, yeah, my
- 6:50favorite was like, we still. We did.
- 6:51We did a whole Boogie Nights episode, but it was like, yeah.
- 6:54That's right. Yeah.
- 6:54Instead, instead of porn, it was like cookies, cookie, cookie
- 6:57baking cookies in the neighborhood and like selling
- 6:59cookies or something. It was like a syndicate.
- 7:04Yeah. And then it gets real dark in
- 7:07the end, you know, it gets real freaking dark.
- 7:08Like PT Anderson dark. Yeah.
- 7:12But. But we, we'd love to tell the
- 7:14stories because Pete was, Pete was a writer.
- 7:16And I was trying to write. I'm not a writer, but I always
- 7:19tried to. But we, we'd love to tell the
- 7:21story. So then we started to create
- 7:25like a three act thing in this sketch show, also putting
- 7:28sketches in between like the the three act breaks and then we
- 7:32call it, but I called it a skitcom, you know, and then
- 7:35somebody else called it A at the sketch, which is terrible.
- 7:39You said, you said actually at one point, because like it's
- 7:43always sunny in Philadelphia. If if you guys can't, yeah,
- 7:46yeah, you can't. If you guys can't envision what
- 7:49we were doing, we were doing Sean, Sean, like he was saying
- 7:53like, oh, these guys like we're, we're like it's always sunny in
- 7:56Philadelphia, but at Long Island and we were doing that.
- 7:59I remember I made you watch that.
- 8:00Like, yeah, we were doing that seven years before that that,
- 8:02yeah, before that first season. So we were kind of creating that
- 8:05with the four guys. But we hope we build a whole,
- 8:08you know, we started to build a whole community of not only
- 8:11local actors, local comedians, but local musicians, local
- 8:14skateboarders, local bands would be on the show.
- 8:17It'd be like the young ones. I don't know if you guys.
- 8:19Yeah, absolutely. Yeah.
- 8:21Figuring like the young ones, it was pretty much the young ones,
- 8:23yeah, with a couple of sketches in there.
- 8:25And Long Island was like, there was something happening with
- 8:27like the music, like punk music and like you.
- 8:30Know hardcore and all that. Yeah, in like the, you know, the
- 8:32two like 2000 era, like the Millennium era, there was like a
- 8:35lot of great bands coming out, Taking Back Sunday and bands
- 8:38like that. So we would go to those punk
- 8:40shows and we would shoot like our hosted segments from there.
- 8:44Oh, that's cool. And then we would air these
- 8:45things on public access, and I'm not going to.
- 8:48Expect it wasn't. Yeah, there wasn't.
- 8:50Much Wayne's World and you'll know what the fuck public.
- 8:51Access It wasn't TikTok back then so.
- 8:53No, no, it wasn't YouTube. No, you were doing youtuby
- 8:56things before YouTube. Like we ended the like a year
- 8:59before YouTube came out, right? Yeah, we ended in 2004.
- 9:02YouTube came out 2005. Like on public access, right?
- 9:06Yeah, yeah, yeah. We would have to like go to the
- 9:08stations all over the place and mail in tapes and get there
- 9:11early in the morning because it was like first come first serve
- 9:14time slots. And we wanted like the 11:00 PM
- 9:17like like Thursday night Stoner, you know, like, Oh yeah.
- 9:21So we would have to hold like that and we would get emails and
- 9:24people would see us and tell you.
- 9:25Slacker, Slacker Slack. So we knew what times like we
- 9:29knew what worked as far as like the feedback, like who was
- 9:33watching the what time the most, so.
- 9:35Oh dude, I remember public access, man.
- 9:38I think last time Pete was on the show we were talking about
- 9:41the jerk beast. Remember that that.
- 9:42Like, Oh yeah, yeah, I looked that up.
- 9:44Yeah, dude, that shit was wild. I remember seeing that one time
- 9:48in Michigan, I went, you can do that on TV and like my cousin
- 9:51was like, yes, no. You can do anything on TV.
- 9:55Yeah, that's. Well, we got censored too.
- 9:57And it's like public access there is there for the public.
- 10:01Yes. Like, like your cable station is
- 10:03not supposed to censor it now. It was, but it's crazy.
- 10:06Yeah. Yeah.
- 10:06It's it's weird because I grew up in a few years.
- 10:09I lived in Manhattan and the Manhattan cable access was
- 10:13bonkers. Like, I don't know if it was
- 10:17like, it was like porn comedy shows, like hardcore porn comedy
- 10:20on there and stuff. And if you went from like
- 10:23Channel 2 to 4, like you went from like freaking CBS to NBC or
- 10:27something, like you're watching Cheers.
- 10:29Then you switched to like, Cosby.
- 10:31Channel 3 was like, you know, it was like the Robin Byrd Show was
- 10:34like this hardcore. Yeah, at mix actually crazy at
- 10:3811:00 or midnight it would switch.
- 10:40To just switch, that's fucking crazy.
- 10:42Yeah, there would be ads. There would be like infomercials
- 10:45for like like sex stuff. Anything.
- 10:48Anything. It's crazy there, Yeah.
- 10:51That's New York City. That's Long Island.
- 10:52Like I, I think, I think people like our age, maybe maybe like a
- 10:55little younger have their kind of, you know, their cable access
- 10:58stories, you know, they. We have the fuzzies, yeah.
- 11:01OK, yeah, so I was gonna say and there was.
- 11:04This mainly fuzzy. There was a couple of there was
- 11:07a couple of shows from New York that got like on MTV, like
- 11:11Squirt TV. Pete, what was it?
- 11:13Yeah, Jake Vogel Nest. Yeah.
- 11:16And Andy Milonakis was another one.
- 11:17I think. Like they they kind of came.
- 11:20They started in cable access, and then the right person at the
- 11:23right time saw it and then brought them in.
- 11:25But that never happened to us. But we did try to like, shop it
- 11:27around. Like we just knocked on doors.
- 11:29And we like, you know, we kind of just made cold calls all the
- 11:32time. We had a bunch of awkward
- 11:33meetings and they were like, what do you want to do?
- 11:35And we were like, we want to do this.
- 11:37And it was like our horrible sketches on VHS tape, you know?
- 11:41You tried to get on MTV so, so hard, Yeah.
- 11:44It was like these times, if it wasn't that time, like it, like,
- 11:49you know, if it didn't happen, then it was not going to happen.
- 11:51So we just continued to do it until 2004.
- 11:55And then we started another thing that was similar to that,
- 11:58similar in format, but we were monsters.
- 12:00We were, we wanted to do, we wanted to do like a more of a
- 12:04traditional sitcom thing, the stuff that we grew up with from
- 12:08like the 60s and the 70s, like the reruns that we grew up
- 12:11watching. It was even.
- 12:12Though we were dressed up as monsters, we were the guligans.
- 12:16It was like a refined version of our of our public access show.
- 12:19Yeah, it was essentially the same thing.
- 12:21It was the Guligans. It wasn't Slack Pack, it was the
- 12:24Guligans. Slack pack was really punk rock.
- 12:27It was like whatever whatever we felt like putting on, we put on.
- 12:31Whereas like Mike Kostic, who is our partner in the Guligans and
- 12:34he Co created the Guligans with Sean, he kind of like made it or
- 12:38when he wrote he wrote it. So he made it really
- 12:40regimentedly formatted, kind of like inspired by like our best
- 12:45episodes of the Slack Pack. Yeah, if it if it became kind of
- 12:48tidy and kind of, you know, uniformed, it's because of Mike,
- 12:53you know, if if it if it, it felt like we were going to work.
- 12:57You have to get on your costume. You had to put on.
- 12:59We made it a job for like 10 years.
- 13:00It was like a process. Yeah.
- 13:01The other like the show before that, it was like, you know, we
- 13:04all had shitty jobs and stuff and we were just like, hey,
- 13:07tomorrow, what do you know, tomorrow you want to like come
- 13:08over, we're going to shoot a sketch.
- 13:09Cool. Like, you know, like dream about
- 13:12shit like that. But you know, like, but then the
- 13:14Guligans was like, all right, people started to get having
- 13:17careers. That was it was growing.
- 13:18Up it was growing up a little bit it it totally like that's a
- 13:21good, good comparison. Cause like slack pack slacker TV
- 13:23stuff was like being in a band, but we didn't play.
- 13:27None of us played music. We were just like, you know,
- 13:30Sean was Sean was the bass player, Mike was the lead
- 13:33singer. Like I was the drummer and Hertz
- 13:35was like, you know, the keyboardist.
- 13:37But like, we all had our roles, but it's just kind of like we
- 13:41would we got on stage and this we just did whatever.
- 13:44Wait, I'm the bass player? Yeah, you're like, you're Paul
- 13:47McCartney. Paul McCartney.
- 13:49Feel like you did that on purpose.
- 13:51Yeah, you're the drummer, but I'm the bassist.
- 13:54We're the rhythm. Who's the first one you
- 13:56replaced? We're the rhythm.
- 13:58We're the We're the rhythm section, baby.
- 14:02Very nice beat. But the Guligans was like the
- 14:05dream come true for so much so many of us.
- 14:08Mike Kasich, our our other partner, Yeah, he, he was, you
- 14:11know, a big time fan of like Dick Van Dyke show and the
- 14:15monsters and the monkeys. Like we all love that stuff.
- 14:17The stuff that we would watch on Nick at night.
- 14:19I don't know if anybody remembers that.
- 14:21Just reruns and stuff, reruns from like the shit our parents
- 14:24would watch. And so it was like, we can do
- 14:27that. We can make our own like cheesy
- 14:29monster show, like we can make our own monsters or Pee Wee's
- 14:33Playhouse. I mean, it's going to look
- 14:35horrible. Like we're going to be sweating
- 14:37and the makeup's going to be coming off and, you know, it's
- 14:40and the sounds going to be bad. But but then we were like, well,
- 14:43that's kind of like maybe that's the identity of the show is
- 14:47that. Yeah, yeah.
- 14:48Like anytime you can see the seams or, or the flaws or
- 14:52something like we're like, we don't have enough to control all
- 14:55of that. So let's kind of make it appear
- 14:58like we are like 4 kind of depressed guys sweating their
- 15:02asses off struggling to to deliver this show.
- 15:06And then maybe that'll be kind of like enough, you know, enough
- 15:09give us enough grace to kind of like, you know, get away with
- 15:12this. So, so like, like the savvy
- 15:14viewers got that. And then others were just like,
- 15:17what the hell is this low budget shit?
- 15:19Like the make up school, like Mike would just sweat
- 15:21constantly. You'd see just green.
- 15:23Paint. Yeah, you have to find mine.
- 15:25So if you so if you watch Gulagans, go go watch the
- 15:27Gulagans all on YouTube. It's.
- 15:28Spooky's season. That's it's perfect for how it
- 15:31was like. It was like the monster mash,
- 15:33the TV show. It's perfect for Halloween and
- 15:36and Mike would just sweat. So like, like we just stopped
- 15:39applying the green makeup because it just kind of it
- 15:42dripped off his face constantly. And it's like on your shirt ruin
- 15:47the cops. But it was just like, we got to
- 15:49go. We got to keep doing this.
- 15:50It was 100 and you know, 18° in the studio and.
- 15:54But it was awesome, man. It was, it was so much fun.
- 15:57For like 10 years I felt like I was in KISS, I was the drummer,
- 16:00I was Peter. Chris, I was the drummer again.
- 16:03Yeah, the No, you're the bassist.
- 16:04And Sean was the bassist. You were oh, you're, you're
- 16:08what's his name? You were the demon, so.
- 16:11Gene Simmons. Gene Simmons, thank you.
- 16:13There you go. See.
- 16:15Yeah, but we have the time of our live.
- 16:17We have the time of our lives doing that show and then we did
- 16:21that for 10 years. We did right.
- 16:23We did that for 10 years, 10 years.
- 16:25We did the first one for seven years.
- 16:26We did that for 10 years. And then like we toured all over
- 16:29the place. We did horror conventions.
- 16:31We did live live events and screenings and things.
- 16:34We tried to do the live act a few times, but again it was.
- 16:39High as we went, as high as Canada, as low as Texas,
- 16:43Florida. Yeah.
- 16:44Florida is far West is Burbank, Yeah, and as Far East as Boston,
- 16:49so. Yeah, yeah, for, for like
- 16:51everywhere. Yeah.
- 16:52For at least nine of those years, we were just bouncing
- 16:54around all over the place. Just.
- 16:55Popping in the van with your friends.
- 16:56Yeah. That's the best places where the
- 16:58Midwest. Yeah.
- 16:59Oh yeah, right. They were hounded and.
- 17:02Treated us. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 17:03Oh my God. Cincinnati, Indianapolis treated
- 17:06us great. That's right.
- 17:07Yeah. No, we had a, we had a great.
- 17:09Time was left out. Back then, nobody was treated
- 17:15nice in Detroit. Are you kidding me?
- 17:17That's very true. We're very different now.
- 17:20Maybe we avoided it, I don't know.
- 17:21Damn. Yeah, but but like we really
- 17:27learned what it takes to make something, making the guligans
- 17:31like we, we, we went through like the best of it and the
- 17:34absolute worst of it, just with our personal stuff to, you know,
- 17:37kind of just like we could have stopped so many times and we
- 17:41just kept going for 10 years. Oh yeah, there was like
- 17:43divorces. There was.
- 17:45There was horrible shit going on, Yeah.
- 17:46Like, and like there was like times where, yeah, somebody had
- 17:50to come in that morning and they're like, well, I'm getting
- 17:52a divorce, all right, where's the glue?
- 17:55And, you know, just, you know, like it was literally like that,
- 17:58like. We could laugh like cuz like
- 18:00this was, this was like 2013. So yeah, like, well, you know.
- 18:03There's like, wipe that from your mind and you're you're,
- 18:05you're a Frankenstein today. So you're.
- 18:06Gonna be a Frankenstein for the night.
- 18:08Frankenstein's not getting. A divorce tomorrow, Today.
- 18:10You're Frankenstein. Yeah.
- 18:12So it was a lot of that and shit.
- 18:14And and then we were like, well, 10 years, I kind of called it
- 18:18quits because it was just, I felt like we reached we, we
- 18:21completely stretched our resources so thin and I was
- 18:24exhausted. And, and it was kind of the same
- 18:27reason we can, we maybe Pete, did I stop doing the the Slack
- 18:30pack show too? And I did, yeah, it was me.
- 18:32All right. We could still be doing it if I
- 18:36didn't stop it though, So thank. We aren't.
- 18:38And then, so he had to get away from us.
- 18:40He moved to Minnesota. He's like, yeah, all right, you.
- 18:43You definitely can't work with me anymore.
- 18:46But it took a while. Like we did the podcast a few
- 18:48years later, the Pitch Movie podcast, which was great.
- 18:51And we, yeah, we met so many cool people doing the Guligans
- 18:54and then the podcast. Fenguli, you guys know Svenguli?
- 18:57Yes, I know Svenguli. Was on We had Svenguli on our
- 19:00podcast. That's fucking nuts.
- 19:02Dude that's like the peak. It is and actually peaks.
- 19:06Met Jason Lee Haddon doing the podcast.
- 19:08That's right. Exactly that.
- 19:09That's the first time you met him, right?
- 19:10Yeah. And awesome.
- 19:11That's. The first time, yeah, he was
- 19:12promoting guns at Kimbo. And then we, you know, we, we,
- 19:15we kept in touch from that. And then, yeah, got the Death
- 19:18Chasm gig from that meeting, so. Life is cool with all.
- 19:22Like you start like cool projects for yourself.
- 19:25Really. That's like why we started the
- 19:26podcast. That's what, when I started the
- 19:28band, I was like, I just want to write cool music back in the
- 19:31day. I want to do this for me.
- 19:32Like if people listen cool, like that's the idea.
- 19:34But at the end of the day, it's the shit I want to do.
- 19:37So like the podcast in what you guys do the same thing.
- 19:40It's like you, you, you throw the hook out and you're just
- 19:42hoping that like people get it and that the people who get it
- 19:47will become your friends too. And it's just like reeling
- 19:50people and slowly and slowly, dude, it's, it's cool, man.
- 19:53I, I love, I love this shit. The the what you just said, the
- 19:56people that get it. Yeah.
- 19:58Yeah, yeah, they become your lifelong friends because you're
- 20:01like, you understand what I'm doing if you see it.
- 20:04If you see it. But you know what that's like,
- 20:06Pete, you said it was like, it was like the band thing.
- 20:08It was like, it's like that. That's the punk attitude.
- 20:11Like nobody's going to give you an opportunity.
- 20:13You make it right. And then if you're a weirdo and
- 20:16like you only have a few friends that you bullshit about with
- 20:19music or movies, like like you, you always feel isolated.
- 20:23But then you then you're able to make a podcast or YouTube or
- 20:26whatever and or TikTok now and then boom, there are all the
- 20:30people are there. Like now you've met your people.
- 20:33Like before it was so hard to do it.
- 20:34We had to put it on cable access to find those people, you know?
- 20:38Yeah, Nick and I, I mean, this isn't my first podcast, right?
- 20:41I was on a different podcast and that's How I Met Nick and now
- 20:44I'm here. So it's.
- 20:46It is very funny how all of that that works out and you meet, I
- 20:50mean, we have a discord that we hang out in all the time and
- 20:52talk with people that are are similar and have similar
- 20:55interests. But it it yeah, that that kind
- 20:58of stuff is what makes it all worth it, right?
- 21:00Yeah. That's the hard work and the the
- 21:02days you're like, man, I don't want to do it.
- 21:05We're all from different locations right now.
- 21:07You know, I'm being held, held captive in a bunker.
- 21:11Sean. Sean survived a tornado.
- 21:14Look at his. Background so.
- 21:16We told you not to mention the bunker.
- 21:17We'll let you out when we're done.
- 21:19Yeah. Thank you.
- 21:20It's. Right downstairs, actually, in
- 21:22Minnesota. But no, that's actually, I'm
- 21:26actually behind Sean. It's right behind the same
- 21:30colored wall. Yeah, but.
- 21:32But that's how you find your people.
- 21:34And, and in high school, we were lucky, Pete and I were lucky
- 21:36enough to find each other in the, in the in the editing room
- 21:40of the one that we went back to and back and forth, back and
- 21:44back and back. It's.
- 21:45Funny, we didn't know each other all through high school.
- 21:47We didn't know each other all four years and.
- 21:48I knew who you were. But yeah, I mean, it was like
- 21:50the year that I graduated. It was the year at because my
- 21:53girlfriend knew you and Mike, I think my girlfriend back then.
- 21:58Yeah, I was scared of him because he had long red hair.
- 22:04Walking. Around he looked like a
- 22:05character. But I was racist, that's what.
- 22:07Jazz and confused he did. He's like walking all the days
- 22:10like his character from days and confused.
- 22:12He's like, no, I actually knew Sean because he would draw these
- 22:15elaborate monsters on the desk. That's cool on this.
- 22:19So I'd be like, Oh my God, he's like he's, he's drawing Satan on
- 22:23my desk. Like.
- 22:24Sean King, man, Don't mess with him.
- 22:28Put a weirdness on you, yeah. I kind of like Satan.
- 22:30It's like we're meant to be friends.
- 22:32Yeah, exactly. And then, and then, you know,
- 22:35years later, you're writing about Satan, Pete.
- 22:36So you're welcome. That's a good that's a good
- 22:40transition because Sean did Sean was so doing slacker TV was my
- 22:45our film school, but Sean was kind of like the professor and
- 22:48he was he's the one to introduce me to Evil dead.
- 22:50He's the one to introduce me to like Peter Jackson movies to
- 22:54like Argento, everything he'd be like, can we?
- 22:57I remember like in 99, he had me this dirty VHS tape.
- 23:00He's like, shut up, take this and watch it.
- 23:02And it was the Blair Witch Project before it came out.
- 23:05It was like because it was going around after like it it did the
- 23:08what it did. Sundance, it was.
- 23:10It was the Sunday. It was before anybody knew, like
- 23:13anybody who hadn't seen it didn't know about it at
- 23:15Sundance. That's awesome.
- 23:16It was like, that's your. Hand on that.
- 23:18Well, you mentioned like, you know, I was in high school, I
- 23:21was the guy who, you know, I didn't just introduce you to
- 23:24those movies, but I would I would bootleg movies like out of
- 23:29print, like hard to find, like John movies back then and like,
- 23:33you know, Dead Alive or whatever, like Army of Darkness,
- 23:35I remember. How did you go to this place?
- 23:36Do you find? Did you find all that stuff at
- 23:38this place? No, no, they were like no, back
- 23:40then. It was like the back of like
- 23:43Fangoria or film threat. There was tape trading.
- 23:47That's awesome like systems, right And you would like you
- 23:51would you would get an address and you'd send in like 1520
- 23:55bucks and you'd get a tape and then you would trade that with
- 23:58somebody else. You'd make a duplicate duplicate
- 24:00of it. But I I duped those movies and
- 24:03then sold them for like 10 bucks in hop hog and I.
- 24:07Was really sick. So so yeah, I just, we just had
- 24:09a bunch of friends who would trade these like Lucho Folchi
- 24:14movies and stuff, things that this is before DVD, things that
- 24:17didn't have a release really. And Blair Witch.
- 24:20Yeah, My friend Maris, he just gave me this blank.
- 24:22It was like, it was like the ring or something.
- 24:24It was a blank VHS tape. He's like, there was like a.
- 24:26Band-Aid on it. There's a Band-Aid on the label.
- 24:28It was. Was it?
- 24:29I just remember it being a black smile.
- 24:31It looked like he's. Like just A and he's just like,
- 24:34watch this. I'm like, what is it?
- 24:35He's like, I'm not going to tell you just like it.
- 24:38Did to me and then I got scared. I got scared.
- 24:42Watch, I was very scared. Like leaving my house the next
- 24:45morning in the dark. Like yeah, going to work.
- 24:47That's before. It's how the last.
- 24:49Girl comes out, Yeah. Yeah, exactly.
- 24:51It was. It was like when I saw the ring,
- 24:52I'm like, I know that feeling like shit.
- 24:55I've been here. Well, like, that's why I gave it
- 24:57to Pete immediately. I was like, watch this tape man.
- 24:59I didn't even watch it yet. Blair Witch did the same thing
- 25:03that like Cannibal Holocaust did where people thought the actual
- 25:05actors were like, thoughts, right?
- 25:08Yeah, exactly where Cannibal Holocaust though.
- 25:10Bit rougher production for the certain things involved, right?
- 25:14But my first like blank movie I got was sallow.
- 25:18Oh. Wow.
- 25:20My buddy was like yeah dude, check this out took.
- 25:22Uninitiated, just going in blind.
- 25:24Yeah, I didn't know. He was just like, yeah, it's
- 25:25really cool, dude. Cool 'cause I I was a little
- 25:28good. Movie of the year, man.
- 25:29I, I'd already seen like Gummo and like Evil Dead and Army
- 25:33Darkness and I was like, OK, yeah.
- 25:35Then I turned Sallow on and I was like, dude, what is your
- 25:37fucking issue with me? Like what?
- 25:40Like, like what did I do to you? Now I can watch it and go I I
- 25:46get it. But back then it's like 1213
- 25:50years old. You're like, yeah.
- 25:52If if you like dig deep, like there's always that dare movie,
- 25:54you know, and and I think for like for for us, for me, it was
- 25:58it was cannibal Holocaust or. And then he would put that on at
- 26:02parties. I did that with American Guinea
- 26:04pig. Yes.
- 26:06I, I didn't want people at my party.
- 26:08Once we had a big Halloween party and like this band came in
- 26:11and I hated these kids. I don't know why they got
- 26:13invited. And I was like, I want them out
- 26:15of my apartment. And I was like, I have fucked up
- 26:18horror movies upstairs. I can put it into the Xbox.
- 26:21So I grabbed a copy of American Guinea Pig from Unearthed Films,
- 26:25threw it in the they and I told him I was like, this is real.
- 26:28And they just pat and we're like, this is snuff.
- 26:30I'm like, yeah, it's snuff. And they all just one by one,
- 26:33we're just leaving. And then my buddy's like snuff.
- 26:35I'm like, no, it's not fucking snuff.
- 26:37You can't just get snuff. You jerk off like it.
- 26:40Works for Charlie Sheen. It was good enough for him.
- 26:42So he called the FBI. Yes, right.
- 26:46Remember that story? Yeah.
- 26:48He got a copy of that movie and. And like somebody gave it to
- 26:51him. I forgot somebody, a film threat
- 26:52I think, gave him a copy and he called the FBI and there was
- 26:54like an investigation. Of of Guinea pig, Yeah.
- 26:59Guinea pig, yeah. Was that the Japanese?
- 27:01Version was that Japanese 1I? OK, I think that one's way more
- 27:05fucked up. Yeah, they're pretty much the
- 27:07man. Yeah.
- 27:08And I worked at a crazy video store on Long Island in, in like
- 27:111997 and they had like, this place was awesome. 112 video
- 27:15one, 12112 Video World. Yeah, it was kind of a Joe
- 27:17Lynch. I don't know, right?
- 27:18Yeah. Joe Lynch.
- 27:19Yeah. Yeah.
- 27:22But yeah, there was like a special section with all that
- 27:24stuff. There was like the traces of
- 27:25death things and. Oh, that's gnarly.
- 27:27And like the the bud, what with the bud guy literally shot
- 27:30himself and you know, those things like those, it was, it
- 27:34wasn't snuff, but it was like, you know.
- 27:36They saw faces of death at Walmart now.
- 27:39Yeah, I know. I I like the big box that I was
- 27:41walking through the aisle and it's just faces of death.
- 27:43And I went, I was like, Perry, do you?
- 27:45My wife, I was like, do you see that?
- 27:46She goes, so it's not cool anymore.
- 27:48I'm like, no, I guess not, yeah. It's like the mystique is gone,
- 27:53man. At Walmart.
- 27:54Yeah, but doesn't Walmart like, censor like like.
- 27:57CDs and shit. Yeah, what the hell man?
- 28:00They didn't release like Taylor Swift's like, you know, its
- 28:04first version of her like. Come on, Faces of Death,
- 28:06Taylor's version. Give it time, I'm sure it'll
- 28:10happen. They're remaking it, so they are
- 28:13remaking it. Which is odd to me, but to
- 28:17continue the story that leads into screen walkers, I'm this
- 28:20this this story is so fucking awesome.
- 28:22So that's why I don't. I hate interrupting this.
- 28:24This is so good. No, Yeah, yeah, it actually like
- 28:26it. It kind of all of our work kind
- 28:29of led to Sean creating this. Yeah, if you've been paying
- 28:32attention, there was some Nuggets, there was some bread
- 28:34crumbs. Dropped there is a through line
- 28:37there's. A there is a little bit yeah,
- 28:38yeah. So over the years, like Pete got
- 28:41involved in, in, in bigger things and writing.
- 28:44And then I got involved. Like I, I, my job was making
- 28:48like corporate and commercial films and stuff.
- 28:51Just an extension. Like I, if I couldn't make
- 28:53movies all the time, I'm like, I can, you know, I can still be a
- 28:55film maker, but make a living doing commercials or
- 28:59documentaries or whatever the hell.
- 29:01And, you know, once in a while I got the opportunity to make a
- 29:05short film or something. And it was, it was, it was
- 29:08always kind of a pursuit of like, all right, I'm, I'm going
- 29:12to put 10 or 15 grand into a short film and, and I have to
- 29:15make it look good. It's going to be a calling card.
- 29:17It's going to be a Vimeo staff pick.
- 29:19It's, it's got to look great. The actors have to be perfect.
- 29:23You know, we're going to shoot it in 4K and rent anamorphic
- 29:26lenses and stuff. And I started treating those
- 29:28movies like the corporate films and they got kind of sterilized
- 29:32and, and kind of not nearly as fun as the fun we were having
- 29:36Pete and I were having when we were just doing the Guligans or
- 29:40the Slack pack and our stupid movies that we made, you know,
- 29:4415 years ago. So it was, it was a discovery
- 29:51that was kind of made when I started learning about the the
- 29:56shot on video movies of the 80s, nineties, 2000s.
- 30:00There was this era. This is going to be a brief
- 30:02explanation of shot on videos. For those who don't know, after
- 30:07the drive in era, dot was dying down and video stores were
- 30:12popping up all over the place and they were in, you know,
- 30:14pretty much every small town all over the place, all over the
- 30:17world. Really independent film makers
- 30:21and entrepreneurial producers realized that, you know, they,
- 30:26if they don't have $1,000,000 to make a movie, but they have
- 30:29$100,000 to make a movie or 50,000, they couldn't afford big
- 30:34film cameras and film processing and big lights.
- 30:38But oh, there's a new camcorder at Sears that only costs $500 or
- 30:431000 bucks and it looks pretty good.
- 30:46Or they know somebody at, you know, a, a, a news station and
- 30:50they can borrow the camera or college and they could borrow
- 30:52this, you know, this, this camera, this video camera, home
- 30:56video kind of, or professional video for the time.
- 30:59And they were able to make a movie that sat on the shelf next
- 31:05to like, you know, body heat or the thing or whatever, whatever
- 31:09movie was popular there. But it was shot on this video
- 31:13format. And, but if it had a cool enough
- 31:15cover and box and artwork on the cover, you know, those, those,
- 31:19those big boxes, those big ones were big on purpose because they
- 31:23had to be bigger than the, you know, the little slip cover
- 31:25from, you know, Halloween or whatever.
- 31:28It had to be bigger and, and bolder and shit.
- 31:31So they, they realized that they could probably get, you know, as
- 31:34many rentals for a little while as like Halloween too or
- 31:38something like that. And it worked for a while.
- 31:40And they and they, these producers just went out and they
- 31:42made these micro budget, low budget movies on home video,
- 31:47Super 8 film, whatever, whatever small gauge camera they had.
- 31:53And the few notable ones, the first few ones were boarding
- 31:58house in 1982. Boarding house.
- 32:00It's a wild one. It's on Blu-ray.
- 32:03On Blu-ray. Ron put it out.
- 32:06Sean put it out. Yeah, yeah, I, I, yeah.
- 32:08I loved it so much. My friend Frank Zabatel and I,
- 32:10we got the rights to it and we put it out.
- 32:12That's like the first shot on shot on the video movie.
- 32:16That's sweet. It's wild.
- 32:17It's crazy. Boarding house.
- 32:19Check that out. And then?
- 32:20It was. Side side note, it was Joey
- 32:21Ramon's favorite. Movie.
- 32:23It was Joey Ramon's favorite movie.
- 32:24That's right. Didn't he make Vincent Gallo
- 32:26watch it? Was that?
- 32:26Was that the story? He did, he did.
- 32:29We're we're friends with the the the the daughter of the film
- 32:33makers, so. Which is weird because yeah, I
- 32:35saw the movie and then and then I learned that Shanti was
- 32:38Shanti. Wintergate was it's like, Oh my
- 32:41God, her parents made that, our friend Shanti.
- 32:42And then there was a movie called Sledgehammer and then
- 32:47movie called Blood Cult from 1985.
- 32:49So it was 1980280385. And then there was Black Devil
- 32:53Doll from Hell, which is great. So these producers, they just
- 32:56made these things. They got them distributed into
- 32:58the video store, which back then was just as good as get to get
- 33:01into a drive in. And a whole subculture grew out
- 33:05of that. And thousands and thousands of
- 33:08these things lasted until about, you know, the early 2000s when
- 33:12the digital age, digital video came in.
- 33:14And and then they could sort of compete with like, you know, the
- 33:19network TV or low budget, low budget movies shot on film and
- 33:25video technology got better and better and then, you know,
- 33:28that's why everything sucks now, so.
- 33:31It's funny because like when you're a kid you like me.
- 33:33Personally I like. I would avoid cheesy like low
- 33:37budget shitty looking movies. As as a normal person would.
- 33:40As a kid, as a kid, you're like, no, I don't want to watch this,
- 33:43this looks horrible. But then as you get older and
- 33:46you, you kind of seen your, your share of horrible movies and bad
- 33:50movies, you appreciate the charm shot.
- 33:54So what happened was shot like Sean got involved with boarding
- 33:57house and releasing boarding house.
- 33:58So he had this whole era of shot on video like obsession.
- 34:03And he started hosting movie parties at his house where he
- 34:06would it would, we would spend 8 hours at least in the whole day
- 34:11and he would just show like there's like what, 10 of us
- 34:13there seeing who had survived watching these horrible movies.
- 34:17And that's awesome. Usually it was it was me and
- 34:19Jerry Horace and Bobby Heckman. You were a warrior, yeah.
- 34:23We were like there leaving at midnight or.
- 34:25Three in the. Morning.
- 34:26Yeah, we were survivors, but you would host these?
- 34:28You watched the whole things, Didn't you watch things all the
- 34:31way through? Did you watch things?
- 34:32I maybe, OK, you would remember if you watched things, yeah.
- 34:36And there was a bunch of stuff. There Yeah, yeah, so, so.
- 34:40And also, like you said, Pete, it's like, how many, how many,
- 34:42Like how many times are you gonna be ripped off by these
- 34:45like studio movies that just suck?
- 34:47But but but they have like, you know, a star in it and you're
- 34:49like, oh, this can't be bad. And it's fucking horrible.
- 34:52Like, it's like, I don't want to mention like as many superhero
- 34:56movies as I want to, but like, how many times you going to
- 34:59watch the same shit and then just want something different,
- 35:02you know? And there's thousands and
- 35:05thousands of these things. They're not all good.
- 35:07But the fact that somebody could make this and make it adequate
- 35:11enough that it gets on a video shelf, it gets on a video store,
- 35:16it gets in a video store or it gets on streaming now.
- 35:19And and they just there, it's a whole movie.
- 35:21It's a whole movie. And now it's like, yeah, you go
- 35:24to 2B or, or Fossum or something, or, and it's just
- 35:27like, Oh my God, I can't even, I, I'd never heard of any of
- 35:30these. And you're scrolling through
- 35:32the, the trash section or the horror section and it's like,
- 35:35forget it. And then you just wind up
- 35:36watching Friends again, you know?
- 35:38When you're when you're watching these movies, you can't help but
- 35:41thinking about the people that make the movies, especially if
- 35:44you have a film making background, you can't just help
- 35:47but think about. Oh, I could totally relate.
- 35:50I've been there. Or like which which, which one
- 35:53of these guys is me? You know, like which one, Which
- 35:56one of these guys is that version of me?
- 35:58And so I found it interesting because when movies like Troll
- 36:02two or The room, these horrible movies just become cult cults
- 36:07favorites. And they become cult favorites
- 36:09because the story behind making the movie is better than the
- 36:11actual movie. No one, no one actually likes
- 36:14these movies. They love the people that made
- 36:16them. That's true.
- 36:17And and this is a fairly new concept too.
- 36:20This is like, you know, 2000s, twenty 10s where the cult thing
- 36:24became, it's not just the, it's not the movie, it's the whole
- 36:28lore of the movie. It's people sharing clips of it
- 36:31online. You know, it's, it's a viral
- 36:34thing or whatever. But yeah, Troll 2 sat there for
- 36:37for, you know, 20 years and it was just, you know, collecting,
- 36:41you know, rightfully so. It's terrible.
- 36:43And then they and then they made a documentary about.
- 36:45It right, but but given a new context it like the room.
- 36:48It's like, wow, this is. This is pure.
- 36:50And then they made a Hollywood movie about it.
- 36:52Yeah, Yeah. So.
- 36:54It's, you know, it, it's weird and, and usually like for
- 36:58somebody to it takes a special type of person to pick that
- 37:01camera up, gather a bunch of people together and make
- 37:04something, you know, Yeah. And, and, and to stand out, like
- 37:07I said from before, like to make it stand out and make it
- 37:10memorable. Like they, they, they, they like
- 37:12went there, they, they went to weird places with these things
- 37:16just to kind of make a statement.
- 37:18And then they kind of rise above like the studio stuff, you know?
- 37:21And that's what makes them so fun, because they're daring,
- 37:24they're transgressive. They're they're, they're just,
- 37:27they're doing things that no other movie would dare do
- 37:29because there are no rules. When you're doing an indie micro
- 37:32budget movie with, with such low stakes, there are 0 rules.
- 37:37You don't. Have that back to being punk
- 37:39though. That goes back.
- 37:40To being hardcore and punk. You just fuck you.
- 37:43I'm going to do it my way. Yeah.
- 37:45If you don't like it, somebody will.
- 37:46I don't care. Yeah, there's these, there's
- 37:48these guys, the Polonia brothers, one of them still
- 37:52making, one of them passed away years ago.
- 37:53But they're so prolific. They've made hundreds of these
- 37:56things. And if you look at them, they're
- 37:58just, they, they look like Ned Flanders, you know?
- 38:00Then they're, they're just like I met.
- 38:02They're so like John Paloney is so nice and Pennsylvania, I
- 38:09think Mark Paloney is alive. Yeah.
- 38:12But like that they are, they are truly punk, you know, but they
- 38:17don't have the costume. They don't have tattoos and you
- 38:19know the but but they are as punk as it gets.
- 38:23You know, there is renegade as it gets.
- 38:24There is DIY as it gets. And and like that's what that's
- 38:29what the real attitude is. It's not, it's not anything
- 38:32about a statement. It's it's just about the
- 38:34attitude of being able to just say I'm gonna go do this.
- 38:38Yeah, that's it. Yeah, usually, usually it takes
- 38:411 motivated person, you know, like Shawna was that guy who was
- 38:46like, this is what I'm into now let's do this.
- 38:49It's he's kind of like, he was like, it's like the bow finger.
- 38:52Like we always use bow finger as a reference.
- 38:54Like you just need that one guy. You just need that one bow
- 38:57finger to say like. You need the blind leader, yeah.
- 39:00To just like, OK, I'm going to assemble this ragtag crew,
- 39:04right? And then we're going to go all
- 39:06the way. And even if it's even if this
- 39:09ragtag crew is the only one ones that love this movie, We we made
- 39:13a thing. Yeah, we just always like we
- 39:15made a thing. We made a thing and and and at
- 39:17the very least, you can get together once a year and watch
- 39:20it and laugh your asses off and, you know, talk about the stories
- 39:23making it. Yeah.
- 39:24And and talk about another punk, Will Pentarich, a good friend of
- 39:28ours and our partner on Scream Walkers.
- 39:32Just and our our our pitch movie.
- 39:34Podcast, sorry, our other third pitch movie podcast host, that's
- 39:39right, Will did these fantastic theatrical, horror theatrical
- 39:47experiences. What are they called, Pete?
- 39:49I don't know what he called it, but they were haunted houses.
- 39:51Yeah, just haunted houses, whatever it was, if it was a.
- 39:54Haunted train you'd always it was a it was Peter.
- 39:56It's a haunted attraction Peter, it's a haunted experience.
- 39:59It's always he's, he comes from marketing, so it's always
- 40:03remarketed into. Oh, it's an activation.
- 40:05Yeah, they call them activations.
- 40:07So they were calling him in in San Diego and like, well, this
- 40:10is the alien activation. I went.
- 40:12It's like the walkthrough. I don't know what this.
- 40:14Is Yeah, I haven't heard that one.
- 40:15Yeah. I I think you have to tell Will.
- 40:17At some point he was doing these like these kind of extreme
- 40:21interactive experiences, but he's like, come on down, like
- 40:25check out my haunted house when we get there.
- 40:27And it's like. I don't want to be touched.
- 40:28He's like when they would, like, slap you.
- 40:31Oh, we got in there. Yeah.
- 40:32Some guy lifted me up and slammed me against the wall.
- 40:34You heard of you and hurt my friend.
- 40:35He twisted my finger back. But I know Will was like, hey,
- 40:39don't you like, you know, go hard on these guys?
- 40:41They were shoving like tampons in our mash.
- 40:43Living like fake tampons. In our it was like this kind of
- 40:46post apocalyptic thing. So Will was always really doing
- 40:49these daring kind of like hardcore haunted, haunted
- 40:53attractions or whatever. I wanted you to feel like you're
- 40:56in a horror movie. Right.
- 40:57Yeah. Like he'd like, yeah, he would
- 40:59like, do fake kidnappings and stuff and, you know.
- 41:01Put people. I did that.
- 41:03I did that. It was horrible.
- 41:04I did that in the city. Like one time he took like he
- 41:06took these contestants to contestants, these participants
- 41:09or whatever. He would pay like 200 bucks,
- 41:11like, for, for a whole night like thing, you know, and he
- 41:14would take them to a hotel room and he would tie them up and put
- 41:16like octopuses on their faces and shit.
- 41:19So. But also, but like, but also.
- 41:23I love it, Yeah. $200 is cheap for that kind of experience.
- 41:26Come on. Yeah, just come to my house on a
- 41:30Saturday night. Yeah, but, but no, but, but and
- 41:33he he developed like fans like, you know, doing this.
- 41:36So he he could develop the following and fans and stuff,
- 41:39but he would also do kind of like more family oriented things
- 41:43like trails and stuff that were cute and the one he did in
- 41:4720/21/2021 2020 20 I don't know what you know, it was all just
- 41:53the like a lump of whatever 2020 and 2021 like.
- 41:57The pandemic era. Yeah, whichever one it was,
- 42:00whether it must have been 2020. One, it's all one year.
- 42:02The last five years is all. Yeah, yeah.
- 42:06It's a, it's a lump of clay that we haven't figured out what to
- 42:09do with yet. So, yeah, yeah.
- 42:13So. So this one he did was called
- 42:15Dark Knight Halloween World, and he wanted to have these
- 42:18characters. He wanted to inhabit it with
- 42:20characters that were familiar horror characters, but not
- 42:24exactly kind of Jason or Freddy or Pinhead or something, you
- 42:28know? Some like alt world like alt
- 42:31dimension. Where Yeah, yeah, his his kind
- 42:34of concept was like, this is this is like, I don't know if
- 42:37anybody's watching Peacemaker now, but it's kind of like,
- 42:39yeah, it's the same world, but things are different.
- 42:42Like, you know, like things are just called like something
- 42:45slightly different. They're spelled differently.
- 42:47So one of the characters he made, he didn't want to use
- 42:50Ghostface was from Scream, so he created the copycat killer,
- 42:54right. He called the copycat killer and
- 42:57this character in his in his haunted attraction was from a
- 43:00movie called Scream Walkers. And so this is the second
- 43:06version of the mask. The the first version was the
- 43:08one he used, but then he created this one for like the next year,
- 43:112022, I think. And yeah, I mean, clearly it's
- 43:16inspired by duh. I'm not going to say it.
- 43:19I don't think I'm allowed to say it.
- 43:21Actually, Freddy Krueger, yeah. Yeah, that guy.
- 43:24So, but, but I just saw this mask and I was like, that's
- 43:29really cool and kind of scary. If you see this in like if
- 43:33you're looking into the darkness and you just see this, that
- 43:35could be kind of scary, you know?
- 43:36Yeah, that would piss me off. I don't know why you want to.
- 43:39Punch it. You want to punch this?
- 43:40Like I would be more. Mad.
- 43:42He's one of those like, you know, like.
- 43:44Scared. Scared.
- 43:45I'm mad, yeah. Yeah, so, so like, so I was
- 43:51like, let's do like a like a cool shot on video kind of promo
- 43:55for the for the haunted for haunted trail.
- 43:58And we're like, this will be like the the antagonist in in
- 44:01the commercial, you know, like this will be chasing somebody in
- 44:03the darkness and that's cool. And then I I think they didn't
- 44:08do it for the next year after that, but I was like, well,
- 44:11let's, you know, let's not do the do the the promo.
- 44:15Let's just make a movie with it, you know, and I I don't know the
- 44:20the relationship that the other producer of the haunted trail
- 44:24with Will, his partner, Marty Araminsky.
- 44:27He had a relationship with somebody at fun world, a company
- 44:31called fun world. And fun world is the company
- 44:34that makes and owns the the Ghostface mask from screen.
- 44:39OK, and that and that company is on Long Island, not far from
- 44:43where Will and I lived. So it was always like, man, are
- 44:48they gonna come at us? If they see us doing this, like
- 44:52Marty, are they gonna be cool with this?
- 44:54Marty's like, I'll make a call. I don't know.
- 44:56He didn't make the call or anything.
- 44:58So we were like, you know what, What if we just made this thing
- 45:01and if they come at us, like maybe we could turn it into a
- 45:04news thing or something, you know, maybe we can, you know,
- 45:07marketing. Yeah, exactly.
- 45:09So. So.
- 45:09It's how we'll think. That's how we'll think.
- 45:10It's guerrilla marketing. It was like, let's get into some
- 45:13like, you know, trouble and, and do this thing.
- 45:15And if it does, like if it does get noticed by them, cool.
- 45:18And if it doesn't, we'll just continue on doing it.
- 45:23So the next year, 2023, we we made the movie in the fall of
- 45:292023 and it was a great experience.
- 45:33Pete came along for a bunch of the days.
- 45:35He was an executive producer. He was boom operator, background
- 45:39actor. I was in the suit going move
- 45:42that, take that, pick that up. Did you have somebody rubbing
- 45:47your shoulders for this? So yeah, I mean, it was.
- 45:50It was. Just I was an executive.
- 45:52But but, but yeah, he was an executive.
- 45:55But the decision, the decision like the the one way that I
- 45:59wanted to make it was not doing it the corporate commercial way,
- 46:04the way I was doing those short films where it was, Oh no, this
- 46:07has to get on, you know, shutter or this has to get on, you know,
- 46:10screen box. It has to go.
- 46:12But you know, this is, this is not a theatrical movie and we
- 46:16have like 12,000 bucks to make it.
- 46:20So let's just have fun. I'm not going to bring the, the
- 46:23red camera out for this. We're not going to bring the,
- 46:25the cinema lenses. There's not going to be like
- 46:29grip electric because there are no people to use this stuff.
- 46:33Like I'm not going to have anybody to change a lens or
- 46:35download a card or, you know, do any of that stuff or focus and
- 46:39you know, dial in the color balance.
- 46:40Like there's no people to do this.
- 46:42So let's just do what we did back in the, you know, the 90s.
- 46:45Let's pick up a camcorder and shoot it on a camcorder and
- 46:48that'll be. Pointed somewhere and then.
- 46:50Shoot, Yeah, yeah. Just just it's it's like a
- 46:52smart, dumb thing where it just focuses itself.
- 46:55It colors itself. And it's just like, it doesn't
- 46:57really focus very well. Some scenes you can see just go
- 46:59out of focus and, you know, but it was, again, it was like that
- 47:02Guligan's thing. It was like this, this is what
- 47:05it is. If people don't get it, it's not
- 47:07for them. Like, like, you know, no big
- 47:10deal. Like go, go watch, you know, go
- 47:12watch a Marvel movie. This is, this is a different
- 47:15thing. And if you like, if you get it,
- 47:18that's awesome. It's the punk thing.
- 47:19It's, you know, it's like, like, like, like, like Nicholas was
- 47:23saying, it's, it's, it's the thing that you get it or you
- 47:26don't. And, and it worked.
- 47:28I mean, the, the, the shoot went great.
- 47:31And we were having so much fun doing it the way we used to do
- 47:34it that, yeah. Sean did at one point.
- 47:37At one point, we're on, you know, we're in his house, we're
- 47:41shooting in his living room. He hired these young actors and
- 47:47they're saying his words. And he turns to me and he's
- 47:50like, it's like old times, right?
- 47:52That's right, Right. He looks at me and I'm like,
- 47:56what? He's like, man, it's like it's
- 48:00like back in the day feel it like he was like really excited.
- 48:02Like, and I've seen Sean with like that kind of dead look in
- 48:06his eyes when he's like, I don't want to be here anymore.
- 48:09But when we was doing scream walkers, he was like, it was
- 48:11like he was 19 again, you know, getting out of the bagel store
- 48:16that he worked for like 20 hours and then like just getting
- 48:19behind the camera and throwing himself off a car and being
- 48:22like, let's do it again. Let's do another take.
- 48:24So he was just like that. But like, he got to like, direct
- 48:27these young actors and be like, let's do it again.
- 48:29Who wants to do it again? You know, who's having?
- 48:31What did you say you were like you'd do the Tarantino thing?
- 48:33Like, do we love? Like, what do we love?
- 48:35What are we doing? Yeah, we love it's.
- 48:36Another one, because why? Because we love movies.
- 48:38Because we love film like he would.
- 48:40He would say that that's so sweet.
- 48:42We love. Camcorders, you know.
- 48:43Yeah, and he had. It was funny because I got used
- 48:48to seeing Sean behind like a big rig and then he was back to like
- 48:52a little tiny tripod. Skinny tripod with a little tiny
- 48:55camcorder. But it kept us moving so fast,
- 48:58like we would shoot 10 hour days and we would get so much and it
- 49:01was just like 2 panel. Lights.
- 49:03How many days? 12 days was the whole shoot it.
- 49:05Was about, yeah, 13 days or something like that, 13 days.
- 49:08Just 13 days straight. Yeah, it's.
- 49:09Crazy, yeah. With that camcorder though, what
- 49:11were the challenges of filming this movie with that?
- 49:15Cuz this is like it was an authentic 1994 like camcorder
- 49:19right? Yeah, it was.
- 49:20Yeah, it was a home video. You found it.
- 49:22You found it like in a garage sale or a thrift store?
- 49:24Or it was on Facebook Marketplace.
- 49:25I went through a couple of them, but that was wrong.
- 49:27That was the one that had executive didn't.
- 49:31That was the one that didn't break all the way, but the tape
- 49:34mechanism broke like the day before.
- 49:36And I tested both of these cameras.
- 49:38The first one crapped out completely.
- 49:40And then I picked this one up like a week before shooting and
- 49:43I tested it at the guy's house. I put a tape in, I rolled,
- 49:45played it back. Great.
- 49:46Awesome. And even shot like a little kind
- 49:48of like a demo scene with this thing.
- 49:53And after that, the tape mechanism broke and it didn't
- 49:56record the tape anymore. But I was always thinking, I'm
- 49:58like, I don't trust the tape. Like the tape's gonna fuck up.
- 50:03And then like you can only take this thing, so you can only take
- 50:05this aesthetic so far and it's got to sound good.
- 50:08So we recorded sound separately, but we just wound up going kind
- 50:13of like video cable, AV cable audio video into like a HD
- 50:18converter and then that converted it into HD video onto
- 50:23like a monitor that recorded HD video also.
- 50:27So it was like a monitor recorder.
- 50:30So we were able to record it in like HD, good HD video out of a
- 50:35really horrible 1994 camcorder. So it was like a clean signal
- 50:41that went from the like the camera was basically just a lens
- 50:44and the monitor was like the recording unit, you know, and
- 50:49like the challenge was like, the challenge was like just let it
- 50:53go. Like, you know, just don't.
- 50:56The instinct is to oh man, like like this, this color is weird,
- 51:00like her, like her face looks blue and it should be, you know,
- 51:03it should it should look like a skin zone.
- 51:05Ah, fuck it. Like what are we?
- 51:06I was, I was, I was focused on other things, like making it
- 51:09scary or funny or something. You know, it was just, but it
- 51:12but the, but the freedom it allowed was like, Oh my God,
- 51:15like, like I, I can't go back to like shooting on a cinema
- 51:19camera, like, you know, do not want to do that ever again.
- 51:23So you're not going to shoot video and film side by side like
- 51:27like Tommy? Why so like Tommy?
- 51:29Why so man? He was an innovator, man.
- 51:31He was shooting, you know, he was shooting HD video back.
- 51:34What did they say his bank account was?
- 51:36It was just, it's just a a black hole up with no end to it.
- 51:41Yeah, yeah. It's like no one knows why he
- 51:42has this money. It was so weird.
- 51:45I was, I was doing like a corporate film in San Francisco
- 51:49and it was like Fisherman's Wharf.
- 51:51Like our hotel was like ran a Fisherman's Wharf in San
- 51:53Francisco. And I got there late at night
- 51:56and my, but my partner, you know, partners with in the film
- 51:59business, but also he's in the movie, he's in Scream Walk.
- 52:03We wake up and we wake up and we get out of the hotel and we,
- 52:06we're going for a coffee. And I look just to my left,
- 52:08right outside the hotel door and it's Tommy Wiseau's pants like
- 52:13clothing store. It's his.
- 52:15It's his. Yeah.
- 52:16And it's got a huge poster of the room, his face.
- 52:19He owns this like this like humongous apparel store in San
- 52:22Francisco. Like a three level fucking like
- 52:25it's huge. It's like a warehouse.
- 52:27Yeah. I was like, wow, holy.
- 52:29I didn't even know he he like owned a like an apparel store,
- 52:32but it's huge in San Francisco. So he yeah, what the fuck?
- 52:35Yeah. I was like Dino, look, he's
- 52:39like, I don't know that guy. I'm like, you don't know Tommy.
- 52:41Wise. Everyone knows Tommy wise
- 52:42though. Yeah, so.
- 52:45But I mean, hell, he's an innovator.
- 52:47Look what he did, you know, And he's able to ride that thing for
- 52:51like 20 years. Look at him.
- 52:53There's no end. Yeah, yeah, so, so, so, yeah.
- 52:57So we finished Scream Walkers. We had it out like nine months
- 52:59later. It, it won an award in Long
- 53:01Island at the Long Island International Film Expo and won
- 53:04the the, the audience award. And then it was just, it was
- 53:09like, OK, we made the movie. Now we got to, you know, people
- 53:12have to see it. So how do we get it out there?
- 53:14And then it was kind of trying to get it on streaming and I got
- 53:19it on streaming and it's on, it's on DVD through a company
- 53:23called Alpha Video. You can get that on Amazon and
- 53:25walmart.com. You can get the Blu-ray on eBay
- 53:29from me directly. I'll send you a sticker and I'll
- 53:32kiss it so you get the Blu-ray from me.
- 53:37It's on eBay. Also.
- 53:39There's a DVD on eBay and then you could find it on YouTube
- 53:42also. It just went like Pete said
- 53:43earlier. It's it's it's on it's free on
- 53:46YouTube for a limited time. And thank you to Alex D
- 53:50Vincenzo, this Brokaw fan for tweeting about it and put it on
- 53:55Bloody disgusting. The guy's he's an Angel on our
- 53:58show on the scream Walker's shoulders for getting the word
- 54:01out there. So.
- 54:02I thought it was interesting that you, you're like, you put
- 54:05it on eBay as a way to. Yeah.
- 54:07It's cool. Buy it from you.
- 54:09Yeah, because I've really seen that as a distro.
- 54:11It doesn't, I mean, nobody knows.
- 54:13It's all like you don't go there for movies.
- 54:14You just like new movies and you know, maybe some people do, but
- 54:17it doesn't have like a like there's no barcode on it.
- 54:19So you can't put it on. You know you can't put it on.
- 54:23Just slang in it bro. We did.
- 54:25We did find, we did find an autographed Guligans for $200.
- 54:31That's right. Yeah, Sweet.
- 54:34Dude, yeah. And it's authentic.
- 54:36And our old DVDs are on there too, like old Google Against.
- 54:38DVDs yeah, Sean and I used to like write.
- 54:41We wouldn't write the same thing on maybe we had like 5 phrases
- 54:45we would write on the things. So I, I knew, I knew cuz that
- 54:49we, we found someone was selling one for like $100 and then
- 54:53someone was selling it for $200 cuz Sean's like that's the same
- 54:56one. I'm like, no, it says.
- 54:57Two different, it's different signatures, yeah.
- 54:59Inscriptions. It has two different
- 55:00inscriptions on it, so people are trying to get rid of this
- 55:03stuff. Another.
- 55:04Really. Important part that I that I
- 55:05skipped over the fun world, taking it back to the the
- 55:08company fun world. So we finished the movie, right?
- 55:14And I had this mask and I had a copy of the movie.
- 55:23And Will suggested that we just reach out to Fun World and say,
- 55:26hey, we did this thing right? We made this movie, we made this
- 55:30mask. Are you OK with this?
- 55:34Like, what do you think? And Will got in touch with Will
- 55:38got in touch with a fellow named RJ Torbert at at Fun World.
- 55:41And RJ Torbert is, he's basically Ghostface's dad.
- 55:45He's the one who called it Ghostface.
- 55:47He's the one who named it Ghostface.
- 55:50He, he quoted it as the icon of Halloween.
- 55:54So, so he's the guy kind of at an office finding all of the
- 55:59Ghostface bootlegs and stuff and sending them C and DS and.
- 56:03Oh shit, OK. But but also right now he's he's
- 56:06probably on like he probably just wrapped Scream 7.
- 56:09He's the guy on set making sure they use it properly.
- 56:13And now he's probably on the scary movie 6.
- 56:17What is scary, scary movies like 6 or 7, whatever.
- 56:20He's. So he's probably there now
- 56:21making sure they use that, that scary movie mask, right.
- 56:26So we went, yeah, Will couldn't make the meeting.
- 56:29So I go there. I'm like, I'm like, you're not.
- 56:30You're gonna make me go up there alone and talk to the like, the
- 56:33guy who owns Ghostface? Like, what the fuck, man?
- 56:36So but we sent him the movie like a week before.
- 56:38So he was he like he knew what? I guess he knew what he.
- 56:41Was Please tell me he was dressed as ghosts yeah, he
- 56:44showed up at the office he. Was wearing the he was wearing
- 56:48the Scary movie when he was like.
- 56:50What's your favorite scary movie?
- 56:54That was his first question when I this was first question when I
- 56:56sat down. He's like, what's your favorite
- 56:58scary? Yeah, I hope you said scream.
- 57:00I said scream, walkers. I said scream.
- 57:02Yeah, Hell yeah. Get out of my.
- 57:06Office but but look like like wrong bitch.
- 57:08I thought I was just going to like drop the mask off because
- 57:11like we did say like like is there a possible collaboration
- 57:15on this? Like what like is there a is
- 57:19there like a cease and desist in our future?
- 57:21Like what is like, what is or what are we going to talk about?
- 57:25And I get there. I got there with this and like
- 57:27the, the, the this character in screen walkers, the copycat
- 57:30killer has this kind of like claw blade, this steel pat
- 57:34claws, right, Which is clearly what I wanted to RIP off from.
- 57:38Like I tried to RIP off as many Wes Craven movies as I could, as
- 57:41Wes Craven is a God to me. So that was our Freddy glove
- 57:45kind of weapon and stuff. So I brought that along and I
- 57:50get up there and and he's just like, I'm like, well, what do
- 57:53you think? Like what, what, like what
- 57:55should our next steps be? Are you interested in kind of
- 57:58working with us or shutting us down?
- 58:00Like what is it? And he goes, he goes, no, I'm,
- 58:05I'm OK with it. And not only I'm OK with it, but
- 58:08I want to help. I want to, I want the mask and I
- 58:11want to put it out in as a ghost face mask or as, as a kind of,
- 58:14you know, a sort of ghost face mask in the fancy.
- 58:18Yeah, he said. We're kind of working on a
- 58:20feline, a cat themed ghost face anyway, which came out in the
- 58:25dead by daylight game is a skin on on.
- 58:28If anybody plays dead by Daylight, there's a skin shit
- 58:30with a, with a, with a ghost face with cat ears, these exact
- 58:35ears right here. So he was like, we're already
- 58:37kind of dabbling in that. And and so let's let's work
- 58:43together. We're going to own the copyright
- 58:45to the mask. We were like, yeah, sure.
- 58:47And they were like, and he's just like one question about the
- 58:50movie. He's like, he's like, how did
- 58:52you make that for 12,000 bucks? Like how did you get the actors
- 58:56and all the other? He, he just wanted to know how
- 58:58we made the movie for like that cheap, you know, and I just told
- 59:02him like we cast, you know, cast on Facebook, you know, we
- 59:05crowdsourced, we crowdfunded, you know, most of the budget,
- 59:08$8000 of it. And we just, you know, we had No
- 59:11Fear and we just went and made it.
- 59:13We didn't ask you, you know, first.
- 59:15We just went and did it. I think he appreciated, he
- 59:17really appreciated like us being like, Full disclosure,
- 59:21forthcoming with all of the stuff, like, because he's used
- 59:24to chasing down people and, you know, everywhere across the
- 59:27world for bootlegging, you know, the, you know, the Ghostface
- 59:31everything. Yeah.
- 59:33So, so he never gets the even like fan films.
- 59:35He shuts them down. Like he takes them off of
- 59:37YouTube and stuff because he's working directly with Paramount
- 59:41like a spyglass now or whatever company.
- 59:43Like ever since this meeting in 2023, like everything is kind of
- 59:47like, you know, there's big news about spyglass and Paramount
- 59:50and, and, and the scream movies themselves.
- 59:54You know, who's coming back? Who said this online?
- 59:56Who's you know, who's unhireable?
- 59:58Like, you know, Schumacher coming back.
- 1:00:01Like there's so there's a crazy scream fan base that you know,
- 1:00:05we're we're not desperate to tap into, but it would be awesome.
- 1:00:10We're really interested in seeing what they have to say
- 1:00:12about, you know, a, a, a screamish thing.
- 1:00:16But now that fun world owns the mask.
- 1:00:18And it's like that is the that's where the mask belong, always
- 1:00:22belonged. We just kind of, you know, made
- 1:00:24it and kind of ushered it to them.
- 1:00:27So we were just like and especially will, my partner
- 1:00:29will, he was just like, this is the dream come true.
- 1:00:32He always wanted this to happen. Kind of us either be sued by by
- 1:00:36fun world or like or for them to be like awesome mask.
- 1:00:40We'll take in that, you know, thanks.
- 1:00:42And, and even that is just like, wow, awesome.
- 1:00:45Like totally awesome. Sweet.
- 1:00:46Yeah, it's better than getting sued for sure.
- 1:00:49It it could have gone either way.
- 1:00:50And you know, he had every right to be like, you know, I'm taking
- 1:00:53this and I'm, I'm, you know, I'm, I'm kind of catching and
- 1:00:57killing this thing or put it out.
- 1:00:59So it was supposed to come out this year, but because of the
- 1:01:03trade stuff that's happening with China, it's been delayed a
- 1:01:08year. So I think this month it's going
- 1:01:12to be going out to their big retailers for like next year.
- 1:01:17I mean, dude, I mean. Awesome.
- 1:01:18Yeah, the minute people see that mask on shelves that like, you
- 1:01:22know, like what you like your spirit, Halloween and all that
- 1:01:24type of stuff you're doing and like online retailers, like
- 1:01:27people are gonna be like, oh, where the fuck is that?
- 1:01:29What's? That from right?
- 1:01:30Yeah, yeah, yeah. And it's.
- 1:01:31Gonna be that. That's good.
- 1:01:33That's gonna be. And, and we have yet to, to see
- 1:01:35if they're actually going to mention the movie on it.
- 1:01:38I, I think that they asked for like the, the promotional, you
- 1:01:42know, pictures and logos from the movie.
- 1:01:43So hopefully, you know, it does say what it's from because there
- 1:01:47are other like Ghostface variants out there.
- 1:01:49There's the smile or the gesture and then there's like the bling
- 1:01:52one like like they have every every fucking type of Ghostface
- 1:01:56mask out there. Like with the you know, a devil
- 1:01:58horned 1. So and they don't have stories,
- 1:02:01but the copycat killer has a whole damn movie.
- 1:02:05So, so we're always like, if we make a OK movie and, and have a
- 1:02:09mask out there, like, oh man, like, and, and we did this for
- 1:02:12like, you know, gum and, and, and duct tape and, and just
- 1:02:17like, you know, like sleep, couple of sleepless nights.
- 1:02:20Like if we, if we do this, you know, the humble beginnings and
- 1:02:23then this thing gets out in stores as as like a legit mask
- 1:02:26like that would be amazing. And that happened.
- 1:02:28So yeah, this thing worked out like like a dream.
- 1:02:32Like really, truly like a dream. Does that does them owning the
- 1:02:36mask affect your aspirations of a franchise?
- 1:02:42No, no, I, I mentioned that and it was, it would just be like a
- 1:02:45conversation type of thing and and depending on the, the terms
- 1:02:49of another production would determine kind of, you know, the
- 1:02:56a deal. What that looks like for you
- 1:02:58guys and the Copycat killer. Kind of thing.
- 1:03:00Yeah. But as of now, it's like they
- 1:03:02own it. But you know, we have this, you
- 1:03:04know, we have it in our contract where we can use this to sell
- 1:03:06the movie and and all that. That's awesome.
- 1:03:08We can't sell the mask. That's their mask.
- 1:03:11Yeah. But you know, we can have the,
- 1:03:12we can put this on a an actor and have them run around at a
- 1:03:15screening or something like that or, you know.
- 1:03:18And we have. We have, yeah.
- 1:03:20That's right. Will Will.
- 1:03:21I, I I will. If it ever screams in Michigan,
- 1:03:25I'll be the chubby scream. Walker Oh, we have.
- 1:03:28Scream. We have scream walkers copying
- 1:03:30our killers at all of all shapes, sizes and colors.
- 1:03:32Please. We, you know, don't
- 1:03:34discriminate. Hell yeah.
- 1:03:36I eat my tubby ass fat. You know, I fit into it for a
- 1:03:39scene or two, you know, and I think they also license the the
- 1:03:43club blade. So it might come out as like a
- 1:03:45costume that is like the way they make like the Scream
- 1:03:48costume with the mask, the knife and then the robe.
- 1:03:52So we're hoping like, the whole thing, you know, comes out.
- 1:03:54Next year, dude, I can't wait to be taken my son out to the
- 1:03:57Halloween shop and I'm like, I know them, I know.
- 1:04:00Them, God willing. Oh, my God, Please.
- 1:04:04Like, yeah. I mean, look, anything can
- 1:04:06happen to this crazy world right now, but like, you know, and
- 1:04:11it's weird, like it's, it's a cool example.
- 1:04:12Sorry, Pete, it's a cool example that like a bunch of nobodies
- 1:04:16from Long Island could, could make this thing and get it out
- 1:04:19there like that. But but it all just it, it's all
- 1:04:21just like it shows you that like just ask that question.
- 1:04:26Go see that person, talk to that person like we were talking
- 1:04:29about before, like reach out to that person, you you feel like
- 1:04:31you might have a connection with or whatever, or ask the damn
- 1:04:35question. Introduce yourself, say hey, I
- 1:04:38did this thing, are you interested?
- 1:04:39It doesn't matter if they never reply, like that's what's going
- 1:04:42to happen 99, nine, .99% of the time.
- 1:04:45But at least they know you, you're there.
- 1:04:49You know, at the very least they might remember you down the line
- 1:04:51in a conversation or something like that.
- 1:04:53And in the case of fun world, like they might just be like,
- 1:04:55yeah, let's, let's work together.
- 1:04:57You know, you never know if you don't ask.
- 1:05:00That's so awesome. And just to bring up this,
- 1:05:03Bowfinger has ideas for further movies.
- 1:05:09You do, you do. Yeah, yeah, yeah, there's always
- 1:05:14ideas for more. Yeah, actually, I don't know.
- 1:05:16I don't know if if he's actually locked in on one, but it's funny
- 1:05:20because like. Don't say anything.
- 1:05:22Don't say anything. No, no, he's still, he's still
- 1:05:24like. Got a big mouth man.
- 1:05:26We still hang out with the crew and stuff and they're always
- 1:05:29pitching ideas to him. Yes, yeah, that's right.
- 1:05:31There's no shortage of ideas out there and.
- 1:05:34Some are great, some are actually great, some are awesome
- 1:05:37like but some are impossible. Our cast was like time traveling
- 1:05:41copycat like. All right, you set it up.
- 1:05:43You set it up. Wait, you want to do that?
- 1:05:45I don't know. Real.
- 1:05:49I don't know. I don't know.
- 1:05:50But, but, but everybody was just so damn enthusiastic about it
- 1:05:53and everybody, like everybody came for the cause, which was
- 1:05:55great. You know, like some people came
- 1:05:57for like, oh, it's, you know, it's an early acting gig and I
- 1:05:59make 100 bucks a day or whatever.
- 1:06:02But then other people were like, no, no, I get it.
- 1:06:04I get it. Like, put me in all of them.
- 1:06:08Even if I die, write me back in somehow.
- 1:06:12That's awesome. But yeah, they're all just like
- 1:06:14for another one. You can have me do this.
- 1:06:16And isn't it after a while, Like, yeah, please, we got to
- 1:06:20sell this one. Nobody knows this one exists,
- 1:06:22you know. Yeah, let's get through this
- 1:06:23first, then we'll talk. Yeah, because like when you're
- 1:06:25done with the movie, like that's when the real work starts.
- 1:06:28Like nobody realizes it. Like making a movie is hard
- 1:06:30enough, even a small 1 like this, but that's your work
- 1:06:35didn't even start yet, you know, like getting it out there, like
- 1:06:38putting it online, but, you know, just buying ads.
- 1:06:41Like, like if, if we didn't have great people like like Bloody
- 1:06:45Disgusting or Film Threat, like reviewing this thing, like,
- 1:06:48like, you know, they must go through a million movies a
- 1:06:51month. Like I'm like, I got AI got a
- 1:06:53review this scream fan film. Oh my God, you know, but but
- 1:06:56they get it and they and they, you know, they, they write a
- 1:06:59review and they post about it. So that's amazing.
- 1:07:02And like we could not be luckier so far, but you know, still like
- 1:07:05to to even consider more like it.
- 1:07:08It has to be out there more. So thank you guys for even
- 1:07:11letting us talk about it. This is, you know, this is one
- 1:07:13of those things, you know, we need this.
- 1:07:16No, you know, people need to know it's out there.
- 1:07:18And thank you. We were beyond stoked when Peter
- 1:07:22hit us up. Was like, hey, like, remember
- 1:07:24that thing we talked about? And I was like, yeah.
- 1:07:26And then like the week started getting fucked up for both Brody
- 1:07:29and I, and I was like, we're good.
- 1:07:31Yeah, hop on, we're good. I was like, oh, shit.
- 1:07:34And then, you know, the day, the day comes, we're stoked.
- 1:07:38And then you hop on. And it's.
- 1:07:39It's awesome to, like hear these stories because like so often
- 1:07:43you hear about only, like the good luck that people have to
- 1:07:46say about the shit they do. And it's like, no, no, no, no,
- 1:07:49no. Let's hear about it.
- 1:07:50All right. And like, yeah, absolutely.
- 1:07:52It's cool to see like this come from years of friendship to
- 1:07:55like, hey, I'm going to. I'm doing it again.
- 1:07:57Like, are you, are you with me? Yeah, you're around.
- 1:08:00Tomorrow, let's hear the movie. Yeah, like, that's kind of what
- 1:08:02it was. It was like it it.
- 1:08:03That's just awesome. Yeah, it was back to basics and
- 1:08:06it was like, it was like it was so therapeutical and it was like
- 1:08:10spiritual is. That the word therapeutical.
- 1:08:12It is now Pete. OK, I got a thesaurus.
- 1:08:17No, but it was it was like it was like that.
- 1:08:19It was, it was like just just tearing it back all down and and
- 1:08:23starting like from your basic instincts was like, oh man, that
- 1:08:27was that was so great. Seeing it projected on a big
- 1:08:30screen, though, that was scary. Yeah.
- 1:08:32It would be at the film festivals.
- 1:08:34And we saw it. And you said that some people
- 1:08:36are like, is this on purpose? Yeah.
- 1:08:38Yeah, Yeah, yeah, yeah. People thought like yeah, the
- 1:08:41the projector was fucked up or something or like.
- 1:08:43Like, because it would be, it would be like paired with like
- 1:08:47you would have 10 shorts that are shot pristinely.
- 1:08:49Yeah. And then screen walkers would be
- 1:08:51the feature at these film festivals.
- 1:08:53And so you'd do, you'd see these beautifully shot shorts, 2
- 1:08:56minute shorts and all of a sudden it's like this shitty
- 1:08:58looking shot on video movie. A few other film makers were
- 1:09:03like, at first I was like, oh, this is a really cool, like,
- 1:09:05like, like VHS filter you put on this thing or whatever.
- 1:09:09And then it kept going. And then I was like, Oh my God,
- 1:09:12this thing is shot on video. Shot on thing.
- 1:09:14Yeah. These are film makers who like,
- 1:09:16you know, spent fifty, $100,000 on their five minute, you know,
- 1:09:20movie shot on an ARY with, you know, with a crew of 30 people
- 1:09:24and stuff. And then then we come in with
- 1:09:26this. You know, ragtag crew,
- 1:09:29everybody. Would show up there.
- 1:09:30There's so many. There's the supporters of like
- 1:09:32like the, the, the crew and the actors.
- 1:09:35They're like so behind. This movie, yeah.
- 1:09:36Yeah, I know. That's what I was saying before.
- 1:09:38I'm like, they were so in. It like especially like the lead
- 1:09:40actor Glenn. Oh man, he's still he's a he's a
- 1:09:43working actor and he is constantly pushing this movie.
- 1:09:47He like love like Oh, Sean. Tell him about what he said
- 1:09:50about being a lead. Oh yeah, well, yeah, he he like
- 1:09:55like like everybody. He kind of grew up like, like us
- 1:09:58probably just obsessed with action movies or horror movies
- 1:10:01and stuff and renting tapes at, you know, the video store.
- 1:10:05And his dream, nobody ever gave him like an action lead in a
- 1:10:09movie And and nobody ever put him on Avhs tape cover, you
- 1:10:12know, and we had Avhs release through retro release video,
- 1:10:16which it's that's on VHS as well, right.
- 1:10:18It's on every format possible. I think I think that's the best
- 1:10:21way to get these are just. Coming soon, yeah, yeah, so.
- 1:10:23But Glenn was just like he just. He got a little emotional.
- 1:10:27He's like, I just want to thank you for making me the action
- 1:10:30hero. And yeah, he never got roles
- 1:10:33like that. And he's like, thank you for
- 1:10:34putting me on the putting me on the videotape art with a gun
- 1:10:38like this. You know, he's like, that was
- 1:10:39his dream come true. So it was like, oh man, this is
- 1:10:43this is what it's all about. Like, just like putting these,
- 1:10:45you know, like, but only giving these, you know, awesome actors
- 1:10:49and. Maybe Sean doesn't want to say
- 1:10:50it, but he he said the black guy that lives at the end of the.
- 1:10:54Movie. Oh, that's right.
- 1:10:54Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. He was like, I was worried.
- 1:10:57He's like Sean. He's a yeah.
- 1:10:58You. He's a black fellow.
- 1:11:00Yeah. My dream come true.
- 1:11:01Yeah. And he was reading the script
- 1:11:02and he's like, he's like, I'm waiting for the page where I
- 1:11:05die, you know? I'm like, oh, this person dies
- 1:11:07before me. He's like, he's like, I was
- 1:11:09like, I always thought I was going to be the, the black dude
- 1:11:11that dies 1st. And he's like, I kept reading
- 1:11:12and reading and reading. He's like, I live to the end.
- 1:11:15I'm like, I live to the end. Yeah.
- 1:11:18And you're coming back if we make another one, you know?
- 1:11:20Yeah, movie 2. You die first in that one
- 1:11:22though. Sorry, bad roll of the dice,
- 1:11:26Bob. Fuck.
- 1:11:29So, yeah, so he was like super grateful for that.
- 1:11:32And and you know, all the other actors, like I said, and it
- 1:11:34wasn't like a gimmick like like there's like gimmick Movies Now
- 1:11:38and I'm not sliding them. I I love some of them.
- 1:11:40Like WNUF Halloween special is fantastic.
- 1:11:43That's great. There's there's, there's like a
- 1:11:45modern SOV movement that's happening and some of them are
- 1:11:48so cool. And then there's movies that are
- 1:11:52shot on, you know, regular HD video or 4K that are converted
- 1:11:56to a video look, and that's cool too.
- 1:11:58But this was not like this wasn't kind of a gag.
- 1:12:01This was just like, I mean, it was like, let's make it look
- 1:12:05gnarly and cool. Like I think it'll kind of stand
- 1:12:07out a little bit, but it'll also be it, it just fits the
- 1:12:10production style. Like there's there's me.
- 1:12:13And if I was lucky, I had peed on a boom or somebody, you know,
- 1:12:17one other person doing, you know, some lighting or something
- 1:12:21like that. But most of the time, sometimes
- 1:12:22it was just me doing the sound, camera, lighting and then there
- 1:12:25was like 2 actors and. Stuff there's a there's a skill
- 1:12:27that you you build making micro budget films where you use both
- 1:12:32hands to carry a boom and also to move a light and then
- 1:12:36sometimes. And then drive you get the
- 1:12:37pizzas. And, and then while you're doing
- 1:12:40that, you, you flip the camera around and you deliver your line
- 1:12:42while you're, you're pointing the mic at yourself.
- 1:12:45We've done all. This while holding the lights.
- 1:12:48That's awesome, So I know how to do that stuff.
- 1:12:52That's why Pete's so humble. Yeah.
- 1:12:54That's that's why he's so humble.
- 1:12:57Yeah, but but it wasn't, Yeah, it wasn't.
- 1:12:59It wasn't like a marketing thing.
- 1:13:01Oh, it's a new shot, even though we did say it was a new shot on
- 1:13:03video movie. It was like, yeah, but.
- 1:13:05It's like, it's like what we could do at that time for those
- 1:13:07two weeks, like exactly what are you doing for 12 days?
- 1:13:10This is what we're doing so. This is it, right?
- 1:13:12Here, but a lot of the reviews, like one of the reviews I read,
- 1:13:14I think it was the film threat one was even though it was shot
- 1:13:18on video and and it was made cheaply, it was the directing
- 1:13:23that made it special. Like they were saying that like,
- 1:13:26OK, it looks, it's shot on video.
- 1:13:28It looks the way it looks, but there's definitely some
- 1:13:32technique behind it. There's definitely some there is
- 1:13:35a there is some directing behind it.
- 1:13:37And they talk about like the suspense that you build.
- 1:13:41It's like, especially like the you going back to like,
- 1:13:44Hitchcock stuff, like the tea kettle scene, you know, like,
- 1:13:47yeah, if you know, yeah. The sound, you're the sound
- 1:13:50design. It's like, like you if you speak
- 1:13:53film, if you speak cinema language, Sean put that in
- 1:13:56there. It's not just like a couple of
- 1:13:58dudes running around with a, you know, a camera they found in the
- 1:14:01garage sale. Like there is technique.
- 1:14:03There is, you know. Well, the Sean King's touches is
- 1:14:06definitely on it. Yeah, but that's, that was only
- 1:14:09possible because it was a camcorder and I wasn't bogged
- 1:14:12down with like the, you know, the the freaking lights or like,
- 1:14:18you know, oh, I can't get the color right.
- 1:14:20You know, it's like all this, like you're able to just focus
- 1:14:23on creative stuff. When the camera's doing all the
- 1:14:25work and you don't care about really the making it perfectly
- 1:14:28visual, you can get creative. Like you could have a dummy
- 1:14:32going down the stage. You could throw the dummy
- 1:14:33downstairs. You could put the camera on a
- 1:14:35like a pole and smash it through something like Sam Raimi used to
- 1:14:37do or something. You know, like there was kooky
- 1:14:40things you can do when you're, when you're nimble like that and
- 1:14:42you're moving fast and you're not worried about like all of
- 1:14:47these T stops and shit like that.
- 1:14:50Just ruins like the like no storyboards.
- 1:14:53We didn't make storyboards, no shot lists.
- 1:14:55We just shot from the script every day.
- 1:14:57Like how do we break the scene now?
- 1:14:58Just give me two. Minutes.
- 1:14:59You could tell. You could tell Sean has some
- 1:15:01PTSD from his corporate movie. I'm not.
- 1:15:06I'm not. Fucking going back.
- 1:15:08I ain't going. Back I I go back Friday, but but
- 1:15:12no, if we, if we did another, if we did another one, you know, we
- 1:15:16might try to kind of not do it, not do it analog, depending on
- 1:15:22where the story, the direction of the story and stuff.
- 1:15:25But you know, it, it's kind of like some some people, some
- 1:15:28reviews were like, I could I would like this better if it was
- 1:15:31shot on, you know, like an 824 movie or something like that.
- 1:15:34And I just think I think most like movies look like dog shit
- 1:15:37now. They're so like soft and murky
- 1:15:40and like ungraded and and flat. I'm like, I'm like, what the why
- 1:15:44does shit look like? Why is this a trend?
- 1:15:46Like where's your colorist? Like, yeah, just the contrast
- 1:15:51saturation, that's all you like do give me that at least.
- 1:15:54Like, and these are great movies.
- 1:15:56Like they're gorgeous movies, but it's like, yeah, it's like
- 1:15:59they just skip the whole post process and like color grade and
- 1:16:03just put it out. I'm like, this is gonna look
- 1:16:05fucking cooler than that, I think, you know, So it's or
- 1:16:09different at least, like like, yeah.
- 1:16:11You know, it separates itself, Yeah, from a lot of the other
- 1:16:13horror movies out right now anyways, like you got your like
- 1:16:16VHS, right, Right. Yeah.
- 1:16:17Whereas this, a lot of it is this like pseudo foe filmed on
- 1:16:23camcorder or, you know, whatever it was what it meant to look
- 1:16:26like the anthology series. But this has that obviously
- 1:16:30authentic look because it's fucking filmed authentically.
- 1:16:33Yeah, yeah, yeah. And and like, love those VHS
- 1:16:36things. Like some of them are yeah, too.
- 1:16:38But I'm like, I'm like like the, the, the what it cost you to
- 1:16:42convert this to like Avhs? Look, we shot a whole movie on
- 1:16:48on tape. Yeah, 12,000 like your post
- 1:16:52process cost as much as the whole damn movie that we did.
- 1:16:55Why not shoot it on like I understand like you have name
- 1:16:58actors and they don't want to look all out of focus and you
- 1:17:01know, lean and shit, you know, so it's like, I understand why,
- 1:17:05but it's like somebody just take a damn chance.
- 1:17:07There's movies out there that do it now.
- 1:17:09Receivers. A friend of mine, he makes a lot
- 1:17:11of SOV movies. Bruce Longo There's a movie
- 1:17:15called Pizza Party Massacre that's shot on shot on like
- 1:17:19actual like camcorders and stuff, but it's like if you're
- 1:17:22shooting them, your movie's called VHS.
- 1:17:24Shoot on a fucking VHS. Just one of.
- 1:17:26Them. Yeah, dude, you can up it
- 1:17:28somehow along the way, man. Yeah.
- 1:17:31And, and, and seriously, it just really releases you from like
- 1:17:34the, like the like the, the shackles of like the production
- 1:17:39bullshit, all the lights moving the lights.
- 1:17:41The setup's going to take an hour and a half.
- 1:17:43Our setups took 2 minutes. Especially if you have three
- 1:17:46lights. No Kick the lights out.
- 1:17:49Yeah, that's it. It was to put a battery on this
- 1:17:50thing. Get 3.
- 1:17:51Use them. Put them, use.
- 1:17:52A chair as a sandbag. Yeah, sandbag.
- 1:17:55Just put that one green, make this one blue, and you got like,
- 1:17:57let's go, come on. Someone's little brothers in
- 1:18:00front of the tripods. It doesn't fall over you.
- 1:18:02Don't move. Yeah, if you're a background
- 1:18:05actor, you're a tripod. Suddenly you're like, you're
- 1:18:09three different characters. You put 3 masks on in the
- 1:18:11background, you're a different character.
- 1:18:13You put a wig on. Man if you watch the party scene
- 1:18:16I'm like in the background of the same.
- 1:18:19That's right. Yeah, a background actor on the
- 1:18:22scene. Yeah, if you put this mask on
- 1:18:24and go back there and. Actually, I just, I just watched
- 1:18:26it on YouTube. I'm like, you didn't even I
- 1:18:29don't have a mask on. I'm like.
- 1:18:30You're like the. Reverse I'm in the background of
- 1:18:32the reverse shot of the same. Team And it's funny, there's a
- 1:18:36character in there who plays our lead actor.
- 1:18:39Lead character's dead boyfriend and the boyfriend's been dead
- 1:18:44through a whole movie. And then we reveal him getting
- 1:18:46killed like later in the in the in the story, but the actor
- 1:18:50showed up to be background or to help and we just put him in the
- 1:18:53background. He's like that she was dead.
- 1:18:56That's what what it's like. I already get there.
- 1:18:59Like, that's something you notice like the second time you
- 1:19:01watch it because you don't know who he is yet.
- 1:19:03But you're like, yeah, yeah. Like the dead boyfriend's a
- 1:19:05background actor. What the fuck?
- 1:19:07You could use that for this. You could use that for the
- 1:19:09sequel movies. He's actually like you.
- 1:19:12Could use that flashback from like.
- 1:19:14I love it when they use like see it from the first movie and then
- 1:19:16they put it and it's like zoom in and you've been alive the
- 1:19:19whole time. It's usually like take that
- 1:19:23enhanced. Intentional.
- 1:19:25Right it. Was real?
- 1:19:26Wait, that flashback wasn't real?
- 1:19:30Oh man. SQL.
- 1:19:31Ideas they're awesome you already they were doing it.
- 1:19:34We're doing it. Can I have AI know we're like
- 1:19:37we're like reaching the end of this conversation, but can I
- 1:19:40have a request? Can this be released with avhs
- 1:19:43filter on it? I could try to figure that out,
- 1:19:47yeah. Or just Sean's window.
- 1:19:49Figure it out. Yeah, just put Sean's window.
- 1:19:50Sean's just Sean's window with a VHS filter.
- 1:19:54On it. I'm OK.
- 1:19:54We'll try to. Yeah, I'll figure it out.
- 1:19:57That's awesome. Keep going.
- 1:19:58To figure out a way to do a webcam like a VHS.
- 1:20:00Webcam or like, yeah, if you do more, there's got to be filters.
- 1:20:03You should do that. That'd be sick.
- 1:20:04It's got to be legit. It's got to be a VHS, it's got
- 1:20:06to be a camcorder. We can't.
- 1:20:07On the other show, we are going to be reviewing Screenwalkers,
- 1:20:10so two of the other guys. So Brody and I do this show and
- 1:20:14then Noah and Alex and myself do the horror movie show.
- 1:20:18Yeah, it came. OK.
- 1:20:19So just defend, defend us in that.
- 1:20:24They have. They're not, or not you.
- 1:20:28Can you can they're they're they're they're horror boys.
- 1:20:31They they love it. They they for us.
- 1:20:34Like, biggest thing is, can you see, can you see that the when
- 1:20:38the the movie was made lovingly and that the people on set are
- 1:20:42having as good of a time as the director was?
- 1:20:45And you can see it on film. You can see when it's just a job
- 1:20:48or you can see when like, hey, they wanted to get this thing
- 1:20:50out the fucking door and make this thing.
- 1:20:52Yeah. And you can see that.
- 1:20:54And that's what makes these movies worth it to me to watch.
- 1:20:56100% yeah, yeah. It, it feels like if you ever
- 1:21:00messed around doing, you know, YouTube videos or, or camcorder
- 1:21:03movies back in the day or whatever, like, and, and most
- 1:21:06people, you know, a lot of people do that now, obviously,
- 1:21:09but it kind of like we, Pete and I learned this a long time ago,
- 1:21:13like when we were doing our, our cable access shows and our, you
- 1:21:16know, gooligans and stuff. People are like, oh, it's just
- 1:21:20like the sketches we used to make, man.
- 1:21:21Like me and my friends, we were kids.
- 1:21:23We would get the camcorder or we would do you know, we'd do these
- 1:21:26like magic shows with our iPhones or little horror movies
- 1:21:28like, yeah, everybody who's dabbled into this could relate
- 1:21:32and and like, and then see if the people are actually enjoying
- 1:21:36themselves. And that's the compliments that
- 1:21:38we've always gotten. Pete is like, oh, you guys, it's
- 1:21:41fun to watch. You guys have fun because it's
- 1:21:43clearly like you're having fun. And and but that's like, that's
- 1:21:46the atmosphere that we always want to have.
- 1:21:50Like a working atmosphere is like, look, like if we're not
- 1:21:54having fun, we're going to stop doing this is bullshit.
- 1:21:57Like, if this isn't fun, nobody wants to be here, you know?
- 1:22:01The actors are not gonna bring it.
- 1:22:03And it's just gonna, yeah, it's gonna die, man.
- 1:22:06What's the point at that point? Yeah.
- 1:22:07You know, it's like, OK, so we pushed it out, but at what cost?
- 1:22:10No, nobody's making money here. Like we're just, we're, but it
- 1:22:13also, it's like we wanna, we always kind of created the like
- 1:22:18the atmosphere of like, we're gonna write this thing for you
- 1:22:23and we're gonna give you the costume, but everything else is
- 1:22:26like, this is your job. So the actors were like, you
- 1:22:29know, I told the actors, I'm like, I'm going to give you a
- 1:22:31few notes, but like, this is your character.
- 1:22:34Like you're going to live with this character for like a month
- 1:22:36or whatever. And then so you have to create
- 1:22:38that character. And then some actors are cool
- 1:22:40with that. Some actors are like, Oh, I love
- 1:22:42that. That's great.
- 1:22:42And you know, just give me a little back story or something.
- 1:22:44I'm like, cool. And then other actors are like,
- 1:22:46no, I, I kind of need you to tell me, you know, how I'm
- 1:22:50feeling right now or whatever. I'm like, well, how would you
- 1:22:53feel like, you know, like put yourself in the scenario and
- 1:22:58then yeah, yeah, but, but, but it was also, it's also like if,
- 1:23:02if they're not collaborating, if they're not feeling creative
- 1:23:04and, and like they're doing something, then like why the
- 1:23:07hell would like put yourself in that spot?
- 1:23:09Why the hell would you want to be there if you're not making
- 1:23:10any money and it's not a great opportunity.
- 1:23:12It's like, no, they, they, they're creative people.
- 1:23:15They're hired to be creative. So be fucking creative.
- 1:23:18It's your job. Like, let's go.
- 1:23:20You know, they appreciate that. Yeah.
- 1:23:24Oh yeah. I love, I love, I love doing
- 1:23:26this episode. I'm so glad.
- 1:23:28Me too. I know.
- 1:23:29I I hope you really I hope you guys did, man.
- 1:23:32Like we love this is some of the better episodes.
- 1:23:35Like the best episodes Brody and I do is when we actually get to
- 1:23:38talk to people who are creating cool shit.
- 1:23:41Like Brody and I think we create cool shit, but we're just two
- 1:23:43assholes in front of microphones on the Internet like you guys
- 1:23:46are actually creating. We're just two assholes in front
- 1:23:48of a camera, behind a camera, you know, like that's the same
- 1:23:51damn thing. Holy shit, the duality.
- 1:23:53Creators, different medium, it's the same kind of, it's the same
- 1:23:57passion, it's the same basic, you know, collaboration, you
- 1:24:00know. It takes a village at the end of
- 1:24:03the day, it does, and it's awesome to meet people who gone
- 1:24:07that route of saying fuck it, we'll do it ourselves.
- 1:24:09I know what I want to make. I know what the people who think
- 1:24:14like me would want to see right? Like I know what I want to see
- 1:24:16in a movie. I know what I want to hear in a
- 1:24:18podcast. So it's like cool.
- 1:24:20No, thank you guys for hopping on everybody who listened to
- 1:24:23this show immediately after listening to this.
- 1:24:25You should definitely go check out scream walkers.
- 1:24:27It is right down below in the. It'll be in the links down
- 1:24:33below. The YouTube link, yeah, it's
- 1:24:35YouTube links. I don't know, I'm like pointing
- 1:24:38at myself inappropriately. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:24:41YouTube's a great way to watch it.
- 1:24:42It's also on Fossum. It's streaming on Fossum TV,
- 1:24:45Sling and on all kinds of discs and tapes and all kinds of
- 1:24:49stuff. Yeah, leave it on eBay.
- 1:24:52Yeah, eBay. That's right.
- 1:24:53Yeah, yeah. Get the VHS.
- 1:24:56That's right, it looks awesome. VHS is like.
- 1:24:58I the best way to do want the VHS.
- 1:25:00Yeah, I do kind of want to get VHS because that would just look
- 1:25:02sick. It's pretty bad.
- 1:25:03I collect all the old medium stuff as well.
- 1:25:06Big box PC shit right there. I'm weird and old.
- 1:25:10Awesome. No yeah, go go check it out.
- 1:25:12Links down below. Did you guys want to plug
- 1:25:15guligans too? Just for people to go check that
- 1:25:17out. Yeah, it's all, it's all on
- 1:25:19YouTube. We actually we released it on
- 1:25:22VHS form, so we really got into like, well we were making scream
- 1:25:25walkers. Yeah, that's right.
- 1:25:27We really got into the whole VHS look.
- 1:25:29So it got re released on YouTube.
- 1:25:33It's called the Rescue dot and VHS version, I think.
- 1:25:35Yeah, something like that. It's that or Taylor's version, I
- 1:25:38can't remember, but it's just whatever.
- 1:25:42But it's yeah, watch it all. All the episodes are there on
- 1:25:45VHS version. Rescue Shawn.
- 1:25:47VHS. Yeah.
- 1:25:48Yeah, and Shawn actually like he dumped it onto VHS and then he
- 1:25:53actually went through the process.
- 1:25:54It's not VHS. Look, he actually took the
- 1:25:57videos, put it on VHS and re dumped it back to video and then
- 1:26:02that's awesome. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:26:03No, it's it's actually. He doesn't believe in filtered
- 1:26:06looks. No, we went from digital to tape
- 1:26:08and then tape to digital and then on.
- 1:26:10He and he, like he took the tape out and just ripped it.
- 1:26:13And there was a few parts. I would say stop the tape at the
- 1:26:16right time and just take it to get a little.
- 1:26:19That's a little annoying. You see Like you see.
- 1:26:21Like cigarette cigarette blurbs and.
- 1:26:22All that, huh? There's parts.
- 1:26:24There's parts that are kind of jittery.
- 1:26:26Well, that's that's like, yeah, that's the bad digital transfer.
- 1:26:29But I think it's the best way to to watch the Gouligans because
- 1:26:32it hides. Yeah, you can't.
- 1:26:34Yeah, it hides the scenes and the and the sweat and like Mic
- 1:26:38powering through the sweat. It's like, it's like, it's like
- 1:26:4180's porn. It's like it just looks like
- 1:26:42it's, yeah, it just looks like he's acting 70s. 80's porn, you
- 1:26:45don't want like 4K on that shit, you know, So it's like, you
- 1:26:48know, let's like 16mm in VHS is like good for vintage porn and
- 1:26:52it's good for the. Put it on.
- 1:26:54Put it on in the background of your Halloween part.
- 1:26:56You want to see those shave bumps all like in in 4K or 8K
- 1:26:59and stuff and it's like and it's.
- 1:27:02Like what the fuck is that even? It's it's so angry, but.
- 1:27:08Yeah, Halloween. Watch Scream Walkers and then
- 1:27:11watch the Gilligan. Yeah, it's it's all great spooky
- 1:27:13time fun programming. If you're, if you're watching
- 1:27:16this in New York, if you're watching this in New York City
- 1:27:19and Long Island on Halloween night, I'm putting on slacker
- 1:27:22TV, the Halloween special on on air, on public access.
- 1:27:27So oh. Yeah, Oh my God.
- 1:27:28Really. On Halloween night?
- 1:27:30Halloween. Halloween sucks.
- 1:27:31The Slacker TV special is gonna be airing on Long Island and New
- 1:27:35York City. Wait, Pete, is there a way to
- 1:27:37get that? Online or no?
- 1:27:38What's that you can watch? Yeah, you can.
- 1:27:40Actually. It's only on Vimeo because
- 1:27:42there's so much copy written like we, we.
- 1:27:45Yeah, Sean put in all like the. Halloween misfits and stuff and.
- 1:27:49Hell yeah. Yeah.
- 1:27:50So, so YouTube, like YouTube was like, so it's really hard to
- 1:27:55find. I think it's on Vimeo.
- 1:27:57Maybe Vimeo took it down. I don't know.
- 1:27:59Cool. Have we ever not been on public
- 1:28:02access, Pete? Has there ever?
- 1:28:04Been. No, we've always been.
- 1:28:06Even after we left we. From 1997 till now, you've kept
- 1:28:11you've kept us on cable access. Yep, look for it, actually.
- 1:28:17There's people there's like there's a guy, there's a guy
- 1:28:19who's in the, he's from Baltimore, he's in the oh, he's
- 1:28:21in the band with the guy from WNUF.
- 1:28:24Oh, Brian, right. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:28:26He said he went, he went to a wedding in Long Island.
- 1:28:28That's right. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:28:29And he's like, whenever I, whenever I go on tour, I always
- 1:28:32try to find the local TV. And I discovered the Gulagans
- 1:28:35when I went to a wedding in Long Island.
- 1:28:37And now he's he follows us. He's the drummer.
- 1:28:39It's funny because Chris knew about it like 10 years ago
- 1:28:41because I sent him DVDs. So Chris Lambertina, they'll be
- 1:28:44a new F guy. It was like his bandmate didn't
- 1:28:47even know about it until the cable access.
- 1:28:48That's amazing. See, like that's like when we
- 1:28:51like, yeah, that's the lofi mentality though, you know, it's
- 1:28:54like let's. Keep it on, who knows who's
- 1:28:56watching? Exactly that, yeah.
- 1:28:57Exactly. Yeah.
